[ABBANDONED/SCRAPPED] Right to non-government-censored media

Postby The United Peoples of Phyrexxus » Fri Oct 24, 2014 7:08 am

Right to a Non-Government-Restricted Media Source
A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights

Category: Human Rights
Strength: Significant

Description: A resolution to allow the citizens of all WA-member states access to non-restricted media

ACNOWLEDGES that there are governments out there that restrict public access to non-biased or non-restricted informational-based-media

RECOGNIZES that some governments use this to keep their citizens happy

REALIZES that other governments use this to control their population and supress their citizens

MANDATES that all governments do not restrict informational-based-media access and leave all international news sources un-censored and available to the public

I've changed it to cover the materials you have mentioned, is there anything else that I should change?

Is there any specific parts that cause that, or is it just the entire thing?

Welcome to the General Assembly. Generally it is suggested to participate in other debates prior to attempting to author your own proposal.

A quick look points out several concerns. I'm glad for your intent but there are a lot of issues that can't really but put into words. One must have a critical eye for writing that can only be honed by critically analyzing the work of others.
Just a few that I can put into words:
-"an international news source" means that only one source must be uncensored. So this single newspaper shall not have any information redacted and the single paper will be available only in the bottom of a vault in a top secret government facility. That's full compliance.
-The IFMEA is not necessary. Compliance is mandatory for all members of the General Assembly and while adding enforcement mechanisms is great, just saying "this will be enforced" does not add anything.
-Your exempts clause is unacceptable as it codifies in international law the right of governments to erase most criticism.

OOC: I'd question how necessary this is. We already have Freedom of Expression, Freedom of the Press, and Freedom to Read and Learn.

I think I have fixed some things. Is there anything else, or should I focus on closing the loopholes.

I believe you should pay attention to what Dark Star posted as you are jumping into duplicating what has already been legislated on.

Everything you know about me is wrong. Or a rumor. Something like that.

[ABANDONED] is the most common but either works
