[DRAFT] Repeal "World Assembly Headquarters"

Yes, I can take a joke. But jokes shouldn't become part of international law.

Repeal "World Assembly Headquarters"
Category: Repeal | Resolution: GAR #8

Affirming that the World Assembly requires an official headquarters,

Stunned that GAR #8, "World Assembly Headquarters", the resolution which establishes these headquarters, appears to have been written in jest,

Concerned that part of the official mandate of the World Assembly Office of Building Management is "ignoring or delaying requests for office space for weeks on end",

Shocked that the target resolution refers to the to the World Assembly Headquarters as an "asylum",

Flabbergasted that the target resolution refers to World Assembly ambassadors as "drunks, stoners, weirdos, military fruitcakes, sex addicts, rejects [and] militant machistas", accusing them of taking part in "lengthy drinking binges...at a well-known local pub",

Appalled that this shameless mockery of this Assembly was permitted to reach quorum, much less become law,

The General Assembly,

Repeals GAR #8, "World Assembly Headquarters".

OOC: No offence, but it's a bit difficult to take seriously launching 10 different drafts at once. We all have many unfinished drafts lurking about - between QoD and DSR I have about 30, and a few that date back even to when I used Gruenberg - but the nature of the WA is that it's not that realistic to work on more than a couple at once. I recently gave a noob player grief over starting a bunch of threads at once, and it seems only fair to make the same observation to you: is it worth the investment of players commenting on these drafts? Are all of them going to be pursued, or is this flurry of activity just a flash in the pan?

((OOC: I'm not going to pursue them all at once, but I certainly intend to pursue them all eventually. I just thought it made more sense to open them up for comment instead of leaving them on my hard drive.))

OOC: Ok, fair enough. That's definitely not the way I've done things - but there's no reason to assume it wouldn't be successful for you.

On topic, don't really care either way about this one, as I honestly don't see this as making any difference, but would vote against solely based on the call for a replacement. No need.

I will probably remove the call for a replacement, as I do not believe it is particularly necessary either.

Claire stands.
"There's one problem with this resolution. We are a bunch of drunks, stoners, weirdos, military fruitcakes, sex addicts, rejects and militant machistas."
She sits down again.
"Except for him, of course!" she quips while pointing at Joshua.

Stoned, perhaps, drunk, most definitely, and weird, without question, but one thing we are not is stunned or concerned. Two things. Two things we are not are stunned and concerned. And shocked. Three things. Four... oh, fuck it. We're opposed. We like GAR #8.

Bell gestures vaguely towards the Wrapper delegation, signaling his agreement as his other hand pours a beer down a snorkel and into his mouth.

Lord Eugene put down his brandy snifter long enough to aim a raspberry at the delegate from Railana. "No Sir, we believe #8 fair accurately reflects both the needs and the people of the WA. And we're not paying to have our office suites relocated. So, No, we shall not support this misguided attempt at getting your name in the books." With that, he lifted his brandy, took a long pull, and went back to reading the afternoon edition of The Aberdeen Times on his mobile reader.

Clover chuckles, then loses composure for a brief moment, laughing at the draft. "You know" she said, regaining composure "'Asylum' may be the most accurate definition of this place i've heard yet. I would be open to a repeal, but only should a sufficient replacement be drafted along with it. Especially if the new headquarters were to come with more office space, sharing with the custodial staff is troublesome."

Sorry Auralia. Of all the reasons I could give you perhaps the most honest is, I like this resolution. It signals a time the WA took itself seriously but still knew how to have a joke. If nothing else it's a sign of when the WA was fun. I'm not in favour of killing this off.

OOC: TBH, I didn't see any need for the resolution to start with (especially bearing in mind that this organisation's precursor had managed to have a HQ building of comparable scale to the current WA HQ without ever having passed any legislation on the matter), because I'd see establishing the HQ as a matter of common sense that would probably have been handled through whatever charter the national governments ratify IC when we OOC click on the 'Join' button. That being said, I'd rather just ignore the resolution (on the grounds that, due to that superfluity, it never really existed) rather than lend it any extra dignity through the repeal process.

OOC: I'd be amicable to a repeal. I'm actually interested in an effective non joke replacement. No IC opinion, though.

"Can't see supporting a repeal of this one, Spanky.", said the good but quite unwholesome Senator Sulla. The old reprobate then placed his feet up on his desk and resumed smoking a fine Yeldan cigar(tm), sipping some Wild Turkey on the rocks, and reading the April issue of Juggs.

Didn't ambassador Friday once attempt to beat a small girl for criticizing (I'll admit, impolitely) his desire to restrict abortion? Definitely not a liberal.

As long as we're gossiping, I heard that the Ambassador from Bears Armed does something unspeakable in the woods. And the Ambassador from Gray's Harbor is a recovering Pink Bunny Cola addict.

You know, people keep asking me about this, everyone wants to know if I know what that ambassador does in the woods for some reason...
