The Starblaydi Football Association presents:

The Sixteenth Di Bradini Cup
a.k.a
The 37th Under-21 World Cup

The Starblaydi Football Association presents, for the sixteenth time, the latest edition of its own Under-21 international tournament, now generally recognised as the successor to the old Under-21 World Cup, as the regularity and prestige that has now become attached to the DBC means it has inherited the old Cup's legacy.

This tournament is named after Starblaydia's most-famous player, the first person to score for Starblaydia's own Under-21s, currently the fifth-highest goalscorer in Starblaydia's history, World Cup Winner member of the World Cup Hall of Fame and one-time President of the World Cup Committee: Simeone Di Bradini. We present, for your participation: The 16th Di Bradini Cup, a.k.a. The 37th Under-21 World Cup!

Ekarin Samika was a mild-mannered person, normally, he would never insult anyone, not even when driving (he normally took the train, just as most rejistanis would), however, today, he felt seriously peeved. He just read in two different newspapers that he supposedly was fired as U21 coach and replaced by a H3SR* coach. It was only his still-existing even though very impaired self-control that made him refrain from screaming at ASR** president Lahedile'he either via phone or in person. He instead went into his hobby room and made physical excercises to clear his mind. After a series of situps, he felt more like himself and less like a hulk anymore. He was not quite calm, but he was nearing that state. Then, the phone rang. Ekarin considered letting it ring. He still was not quite in a state where he could guarantee not explooding on anyone. On the other hand, it could be Kiras Lahedile, the person he definitely wanted to talk to.

"Su?" he spoke into the handset.

"Hejida, here's Kiras, can I speak to Ekarin Samika?"

Ekarin held the phone away from his mouth, sighed, then spoke into it again. "Here. I am fired su?"

A noise was heard in the line. "I am sorry, tahoj letva."

For many foreigners, Rejistanian looks very egalitarian, however, it is not, its distinctions of inferiority and superiority are just not as overt as in other languages. However using tahoj and the occupation showed that the ASR president was very formal and in this context very embarrassed about what happened. "I see. So the Update*** was right?"

"It was not. The Update is not better than the National just thicker and with more advertising. We have considered replacing you and Jial'he was a candidate. However, we did not plan replacing you in this tournament."

"Thank you, tahoj xesyn." Ekarin said, also in a formal tone.

"However, you are aware that this does not mean, that you are exempt from being fired after the tournament su?"

"I am. I will work for the success of the team in this competition!"

"That is what I want to hear."

The team of late teen and early twenty year olds cheered as the lifted off the ground and headed towards the Di Bradini Cup. The plane, a customized ET-255 cargo plane with an indoor soccer field, set itself on a straight course for Starblaydia. Whilst the majority of the team listened to music and slept or read, there were a few players who took advantage of the indoor field. The field, composed of turf, was the only one of it's kind in Erathore. It was suspended on a free rotating cylinder that allowed the field to freely rotate in turns but the players would never notice it. The stand out player on the field at the moment was the young goalkeeping wonder, the Captain of the team, Roberto Bennedetto. He was trying on all sorts of gloves, international and locally made. Of all of the sports positions in all of the sports, the position of goalkeeper was the most loved in Erathore. The time invested in locally made gloves was astounding. The highest quality gloves may take as long as a month to put together. He finally settled on a pair of Dizarino T-90 Deluxe gloves. Made in the center of Erathore, the T-90D gloves represented the currant pinnacle of goal gloves for Erathore. The golden gloves, named after their golden color, carried a number of beneficial features. The glove has 6mm of pure shot stopping delight on the palm. Thanks to the layered design of the latex and memory foam, it allowed for the keeper to still catch the ball and form a fist for punching. They also boasted flexible finger protection that allowed the keeper to bend their fingers back just a little more then usual to allow for better parries and catches. The gloves also had a ribbed punching area for extra traction and control on them. The latex was also all weather latex that meant they could be used in all conditions.
Roberto put on the gloves using the easy pull-lope entrance system and flexed his fingers experimentally. He called his fellow Captain and striker Marcello Tucci over to take shots on him. Half an hour later, he took the gloves off, extremely pleased by the performance of the gloves. As he walked back to his seat, he put the gloves into his bag and smiled with satisfaction.

Goalkeepers:

1- Roberto BENNEDETTO (Team: FC Mildrid) – CAPTAIN
Height: 196cm - Weight: 81kg – Age: 17 years old
Roberto Bennedetto is regarding by many to be the next great keeper in Erathore. From a very young age it was evident that he was exceptionally skilled at his position. At the age of 13 he was scouted and recruited by the FC Mildrid youth team and started in the junior squad. 3 years later he was moved up to the actual Mildrid team for the upcoming game against Manlio. It was immediately evident just how skilled he was. He didn’t make the flashiest saves and did give up a goal, but covered shooting angles on every possible shot, except the one on which he was scored upon and that was a controversial goal in which Mildrid claimed he had been obstructed. He was offered a position at Juvillian Martinax but stayed with his childhood club. He was also selected for the Erathore National team for the World Cup #54 and Baptism of Fire #40.
Rating: A - Team Relationship: A - Morale: A - Form: A

12- Bayard GREGIO (Team: Arro)
Height: 191cm – Weight: 78kg – Age: 19 years old
Bayard Gregio is the keeper for the leading Seria-B league team, and as such is a very capable keeper. He excels at jumping, diving, and challenging. He has a weak goal kick however, and this is what led him to being a substitute. He always gives his best effort, even when he cannot reach the ball.
Rating: B – Team Relationship: B – Morale: B – Form: A

Right Defenders:

2- Fredrico del NAZAZARI(Team: Jutear)
Height: 163cm – Weight: 68kg – Age: 18 years old
Nazazari originally played as a forward, but, due to the ever toughening competition he was competing with as a forward he decided to transfer to right defender. Fredrico is very talented at passing and dribbling and will not hesitate to take the ball all the way to the opposition’s corner before crossing it to a forward. His main pitfall are his challenges, he can rarely pull one of, regardless of the skill of the opposition.
Rating: A – Team Relationship: B – Morale: B – Form: A

21- SERGIO Modderna (Team: Internazcionale Elidoro)
Height: 175cm – Weight: 69kg – Age: 19 years old
Extremely fast and excellent with passes, Sergio prefers to take the ball all the way to the goal if given the chance, instead of pulling the cross from the corner like Nazazari does. He has poor heading skills, never being able to direct the ball.
Rating: B – Team Relationship: A – Morale: B – Form: C

Left Defenders:

3- Jackio DILLNORE (Team: Matazerri)
Height: 170cm – Weight: 66kg – Age: 16
Dillnore is the youngest member of the team and the smallest. Looks are deceiving however, as Jackio is very proficient at tackling and hitting the long ball. His most celebrated action during his football career was in a friendly game against Seria-A team Jutear earlier this year. Dillnore went toe to toe with Jutear’s start striker, slid in and poked the ball out, and took a shot on goal from the half-line. The ball bounced off the crossbar to go in for the game-winning goal. After the game Jutear offered him a lucrative contract and he has yet to reveal whither or not he will stay with Matazerri or move to Jutear.
Rating: A – Team Relationship: A – Morale: B – Form: A

24- WILLMIO Autitore (Team: Poweran)
Height: 176cm – Weight: 73kg – Age: 17 years old
Autitore is a player who would prefer to take the ball from the opposition, out dribble a forward or mid, then pass it to a teammate, or better yet pass it right off the bat. Whilst this leads to him gaining many an assist, it doesn’t help him with his footwork or dribbling. It is hoped that by placing him on the Di Bradini cup team, he will feel more inclined to hold onto the ball a little bit longer.
Rating: B – Team Relationship: B – Morale: A – Form: B

Central Defender:

4- Marcello BIGOTTI (Team: Dingo)
Height: 185cm - Weight: 81kg – Age: 20 years old
Bigotti is an accomplished footballer who is strong in all aspects of the game. Passing, dribbling, shooting, tackling, he has no real fault. The only complaint one may offer is that he prefers to handle the ball himself, rather then trust it with a teammate. Looking to be placed on the national team for the next World Cup team, he hopes to get over this quirk of his during the Di Bradini Cup.
Rating: A – Team Relationship: C – Morale: A – Form: A

11- Felipe MAZARI (Team: Azzuri)
Height: 169cm – Weight: 71kg – Age: 17 years old
Mazari is an aerial specialist despite his short height. He is capable of bounding several feet into the air to head the ball down, trap it, dribble past the opposition, the pass it to an Azzuri forward. He has solid passes and a good leg to tie the package together.
Rating: B – Team Relationship: A – Morale: B – Form: A

Stopper:

5- Vanni DEL NARAN (Team: Charzzan)
Height: 173cm – Weight: 73kg – Age: 20 years old
Narazn is a promising player although he only starts around half of the games for Charzzan. His main strength comes from his ability to bend the ball and his accurate passes. Together these two attributes create a deadly combo against any defender. Nazaran was also selected for the National Team. It is hoped that that by putting him in the Di Bradini and the National team will help improve his playing.
Rating: B – Team Relationship: B – Morale: B – Form: A

Defensive Midfielders:

6- Yavanni DIADORA (Team: Vargas)
Height: 171cm – Weight: 70kg – Age: 19 years old
Diadora is one of the most professional, serious footballers of his age. He never seems to smile or celebrate until the game is over, as he knows something could go wrong at any moment. He has relatively weak kicks, but has good passing and dribbling skills to even it out. Just because he has a serious attitude does not mean Diadora is above throwing in a soft elbow every once in a while. Soft as in ribs will be bruised and possibly broken.
Rating: B – Team Relationship: C – Morale: B – Form: A

15- Nathan STRANGZLIO (Team: Maxio)
Height: 182cm – Weight: 76kg – Age: 16 years old
Strangzlio is a good player, but not outstanding. He has clean; crisp passes, a good leg capable of hitting the ball downfield quite a ways, and is a fast player. He loves to play, he loves the game and it is evident. He plays his hardest and always gives it his all. He refuses to be subbed, one time when playing for Maxio, his coach had to literally drag him off the field. Needless to say he subbed back in five minutes later.
Rating: A – Team Relationship: B – Morale: A – Form: A

Neutral Midfielders:

7- PRINZIO Delethor (Team: Dubor FC)
Height: 172cm – Weight: 74kg – Age: 18 years old
Prinzio is widely considered to be one of, if not the most proficient at the deadball. His corner and free kicks always give the defense problems, often forcing the goalie to scramble for a ball that is bending left and down. He is also a proficient penalty taker, although he will never take the 5th and last kick.
Rating: B – Team Relationship: A – Morale: A – Form: A

27- Lorenzo GIANLUIGI (Team: Internazcionale Elidoro)
Height: 181cm – Weight: 81kg – Age: 20 years old
Gianluigi is a talented footballer that has played since the early ages of his life. He is equally skilled at tackling and defense as he is passing and offense. He posses’ high stamina and speed resulting in him being able to run fast for a long time. It is hoped that if he performs well in the Di Bradini, even though he is a sub, he will land himself a spot on the National team for the next World Cup.
Rating: A – Team Relationship: A – Morale: A – Form: A

Offensive Midfielders:

8- DIZANARO Tucci (Team: FC Arron)
Height: 183cm – Weight: 82kg – Age: 17 years old
The (slightly) older of the Tucci Twins, Dizanaro loves to play midfield with an aggressive touch. His passes are crisp and on target. He can place his shots anywhere in the net from the half-field line and closer. His last second goal from the half-field line with FC Arron earlier this year clinched Arron’s 4th place title, the highest in 5 years. He loves to pass the ball to his brother, the dynamic striker for FC Arron, which oftentimes leads to criticism.
Rating: A – Team Relationship: B – Morale: A – Form: A

21- JUVEN Tilo (Team: Strazza)
Height: 179cm – Weight: 78kg – Age: 19 years old
Juven is an accomplished offensive midfielder that used to stand between the posts as a keeper. He maintained this position long enough to develop a killer leg that allows him to, now in the midfield position, lob the ball downrange, rip the ball at goal during a free kick, or even take a goal kick. He is not a good tackler; he tends to lead with his hands, a trait appreciated for a keeper but not a field player. This has lead to more then a few handball calls and even a few penalties.
Rating: A – Team Relationship: B – Morale: A – Form: A

Forwards/Striker:

9- Marcello TUCCI (Team: FC Arron) - CAPTAIN
Height: 183cm – Weight: 80kg – Age: 17 years old
The younger of the Tucci Twins, Marcello is the primary striker for FC Arron, the same Seria-B club his brother plays for. He is a powerful kicker who has no problem putting the ball right at the net. He is mildly proficient at bending the ball, allowing him to shoot from obscure angles. His passes could use some work though. He is a primarily shooting forward instead of an assisting forward.
Rating: A – Team Relationship: A – Morale: A – Form: B

10- Gordine De JAZAS (Team: Rojar Dejarnete)
Height: 179cm – Weight: 79kg – Age: 20 years old
Jazas is the counterpart to Tucci. Where Tucci likes to shoot, Jazas is content with passing it to someone with a better shooting ability. That’s not to say he doesn’t shoot, or score for that matter. It just means that he has placed more trust in his teammates then in himself. Hopefully the Di Bradini will encourage him to change that and to place more confidence in himself and see him shooting more.
Rating: B – Team Relationship: B – Morale: B – Form: A

Saugeais ready for another Di Bradini Cup

Saugeais is bringing in a veteran squad for this cycle's Di Bradini Cup. After coming in fourth last time, manager Benoit Howard has high hopes that his squad will go all the way. "It was a great ride last time, but suffering two straight losses put that to an end. I was proud of my boys taking fourth in their first international tournament ever. Now, this time around, I'd like to see them hoist the trophy." As far as the roster was concerned, Howard said that he's bringing in all the eligible players that he can. "No one over the age of 21 is allowed to this competition. So, I've been assembling the finest from our local leagues that fit the criteria. Of course, we have some players that were active in our last cup, namely Philippe Lyon, Maurice Dumond and Tim Wax. Most of the backups from that tourney have been placed into starting roles to fill the void left by the players leaving for the national squad tryouts. But I feel that with the experience our current squad has, we should be confident in our goal to be champions."

King Lucas rolled out of bed. His crown fell onto the floor and rolled away from him. He muttered a dirty word in Kazzorian and then picked it up again. There was a dent in it. That blacksmith would have to be executed. He then picked up his newspaper and read that the Kazzorian Under 21's were entering the Di Bradini cup. He then checked what was going on with the other team that were playing at the moment, the under 19's. Turns out they were the third seed in their cup. King Lucas was already in a foul mood and the lack of Kazzoria being top made him angry. Then he made a decision which would make him hated by millions.

The under 21's were relaxing in the airport. There were some posher fans sitting around them, but mainly it was them. They were about to take the 8:30 am flight to Starblaydia. They would sufferer from jet lag and they were all looking forwards to falling asleep in a Starblaydian hotel. They were already tired now and it would get worse with the flight, they had all been forced out of bed early and were all at least on their second coffee. Then the news came on and the king was their.

***

King Lucas looked into the camera and made a speech. "For years we have had football teams, we did this to make our nation proud. But these football player won't make our nation proud, quite the opposite. In the last Di Bradini cup the squad failed to make it to the knock out rounds and disgraced us all. This isn't the only case of lousy football from our nation, the senior squad failed to make to the world cup three cups in a row. So in light of recent events I'm banning football and all other sports for that matter, they're bad for you anyway rots the brain."

When the squad heard that they decided they should probably go home. Then Samuel Salms piped up and said that they could just go in secret anyway. The team voted for it and they all walked onto the plane, now even more nervous than before.

For the first time, the Stuffed Taxidermists Under 21 team are in the Di Bradini Cup. They had never been in a torunament before, and had only played a few friendlys against some of Stuffed Taxidermists National Club Teams. They were appointed Leone Harris as their coach. Leone was a highly accomplished manager and player, formerly playing in the Thaplacian Unofficial National League for Thaplace City. He was also favourite to become National Manager, but was beaten by former team mate Mark Raies by one vote. He is the Assistant Manager in the National Team, and is known as a hard worker. He worked the team almost to exhaustion before they left Stuffe Taxidermists for the Cup location, assesing his team. He has named the starting squad and 3 substitutes. If reserves are needed, he will personally call them up.

Queer Poco el Mono Ara DBC 16 Squad

Coach – Ray Hodgson. Has been out of work since his sacking at Valengren Kickers. Takes over a very capable bunch of youngsters and will look to resurrect his career with a good showing at the Under 21’s World Cup.

* starters in bold

Goalkeepers.

01. Davi da Guia. 21 years old. Salaga F.C.. His dad is from Cafundeu and his mum is half Pocoan half Sargossan. Plays for League I side Salaga F.C. He stands 6ft 9 and has an enormous reach.
13. Jaap Zuiverloon. 19 years old. Racing Cruzeira. The flea, stands at a teensy 5ft 8, but his stature hasn’t stopped him becoming one of the hottest prospects in Pocoan football, capable of shifting from one post to the other in a single bound.
20.Jamie Scotland. 21 years old. The lad has gigantic hands. Almost comically sized, but he uses them to great advantage.

Defence - Wingbacks

02. Clancy Gibson. 21 years old. Pythons have so often bought youth, now they have a young lad who is coming through the ranks without having had to pay millions in exchange for his potential
03. Rigobert Webo. 21 years old. Wexwick. Another Augustus graduate who looks like he’ll break into the first team next season. Quick, agile, good tackler, his distribution needs a little work though.
14. Ramon Delgado. 20 years old. Ridgemont Town. He’s looking to break into the first team. He can shift up and down the wings with ease and is pretty good at freekicks.
15. Dwight Holt. 18 years old. Racing Cruzeira. Another graduate of their incredible academy. A tireless worker who has proven he will chase even the most lost of causes.

Defence – Centre

05. Arsenio Jackson. 21 years old. Augustus have a habit of cultivating youth and Arsenio is another lad to emerge from their ranks. Broke into the first team after huge number of outgoings in the transfer market. Captain
06. Milton Holmes. 20 years old. Has thus far been a bit of a trouble maker at East Khaldoon Park scrapping with team mates and getting rowdy in nightclubs, he’s also got a tag along girlfriend who isn’t a classy lady.
12. Corey Le Fondre. 18 years old. New Boys Royceton. Has yet to make his league debut after transferring from non-league side Al-Alfaria. Supposedly very good…
17. Phil Ledger. 19 years old. Augustus. Makes the leap into the first team alongside Jackson. Spent last year on loan in League I, where he proved to be a brick wall.

Midfield – Wingers

07. Aydin Sukur. 21 years old. Did somebody say fast? No. Oh, well he is. Super quick, with a great touch it’s just a shame about his final ball.
11. Juliano Dias Marçal. 21 years old. Salaga F.C. Can play on the left or the right. Has also been deployed at SS for Salaga. Has an eye for goal and is confident despite his youth.
22. Jeremy Klasnic. 21 years old. Old Forest. Likes to cut inside from the wing and have a go at goal. Not blessed with pace, but he does show some decent footwork.

Midfield - Central

04. Angel Martinez. 17 years old. Allied Motor Trade. Don’t let his name fool you, he will kick lumps out of you and leave you crumpled in a heap on the floor. A strong midfielder and one of the youngest players in the team.
08. Josh Hart. 19 years old. Barbossa. Plays behind the strikers rather than in the middle for his club, he’s developing into a quality attacking midfielder and would benefit from a move to an Una Serie club.
16. Marlon Edwards. 19 years old. Royal Khaldoon. Has had his chances limited thanks to Royal’s wealth. A loan spell away may kick start the strapping midfielder’s career. Good distribution and a little flair make him a great prospect.
21. Not likely to get a run out during the cup, but should be back next time around when he’s 19.

Strikers

09. Bart Wilson. 20 years old. Augustus. Another member of the academy set to shine after the post season clear out, he’s got an eye for goal but can’t head the ball for toffee.
10. Vijay Kandakram. 21 years old. Skyte City. Kandakram is a cool head and great at penalties. Honestly, he is. You don’t even wanna mess if it comes to penalties. He’ll score. Graduated to the national squad after good league performances.
18. Danny Cavanaugh. 19 years old. Augustus. The little fella has pace to burn and will scare the more lumbering of centrebacks. Needs to work on his heading.
19. Duncan Oliver. 21 years old. Rydell United are pinning their hopes of promotion on the young attacker. He’s got a great engine and won’t stop running until after the final whistle.

We originally started with DBC 4, and took home that title. After a good little run, we stepped away, but now, we’re coming back.

It’s gonna re-start the way it started before. Fitting in DBC 4-times-4.

Part of the conditions of allowing the team to return, there can be no ties to previous rosters. So there are no McAllisters. No Prescotts. Just new Rockets, ready to get the Empire back on the map.

NEWMANISTAN COMEBACK TEAM- DI BRADINI CUP 16

Head Coach: Steve Tremblay
Age: 45
Club Team: Loudon Leopards
Bio: It is expected that this assignment will also lead to Tremblay coaching the WC54 team as long as the team plays respectably. Steve likes offensive, attack minded football, but knows how to do it cautiously and not jeopardize the defense. He’s a likeable person, and players work hard for him.

Assistant Coach: Tony Allen
Age: 38
Club Team: Hampton Bulldogs
Bio: Preaches a defensive style at home, and does a great job getting the most out of the players he puts on the pitch.

Assistant Coach: Robert Palmer
Age: 43
Club Team: Dover City Mountaineers
Bio: Replaced Chris Merrill in Dover City, Palmer preaches a style of high work ethic and overall gritty and physical play.

**** STARTING LINEUP ****

Name: Danny Marshall
Position: GK
Age: 19
Jersey #: 1
Club Team: South Charlotte Condors
Bio: Looks to be a great keeper for the future. His best attribute would be his reflexes, and his ability to out-think the shooter.

Name: Chris Dayten
Position: LB
Age: 17
Jersey #: 3
Club Team: Pocono City Capitals
Bio: You don’t get signed by the Capitals as a 14-year old unless you are something special, and Chris has shown to be just that. After two seasons of playing for their “B”-League affiliate, Dayten got full-time duty in the NPL and impressed, winning the Rookie Defender of the Year award. Off the pitch, he is immune to distraction and concentrates solely on making himself better.

Name: Alexander Gilles
Position: LCB
Age: 20
Jersey #: 6
Club Team: North Charlotte Wildcats
Bio: A gritty and physical defender, who will make things very difficult on your forwards if they think they can just dribble on by him. He’s also known to take an occasional run on offense if an opportunity presents itself.

Name: Brett Richmond
Position: RCB
Age: 18
Jersey #: 4
Club Team: Loudon Leopards
Bio: Not as physical as Gilles, but very intelligent. A defensive defender who will rarely have his name in the paper, but does all the things you want on the field.

Name: Lenny King
Position: RB
Age: 20
Jersey #: 2
Club Team: Dover City Mountaineers
Bio: The kind of player that his coach Palmer (the assistant here) wants to fill his roster with. Gritty, physical, and smart.

Name: Stanley Leffler
Position: LM
Age: 19
Jersey #: 10
Club Team: Olympia Gladiators
Bio: Gritty presence on the wing, and is usually “defense-first” in his mindset. Good with longballs, though.

Name: James Burgan
Position: CAM
Age: 17
Jersey #: 8
Club Team: Pocono City Capitals
Bio: Agile play-maker. Does what you want someone in this spot on the field to do. He has a great shot, and he is very aware of his surroundings.

Name: Vinnie Prawn
Position: CDM
Age: 19
Jersey #: 14
Club Team: Fairfield City Admirals
Bio: A real pain in the you know what to play against. He will try to get under the skin of your best forward, but has the skills to back up his talk.

Name: Aaron Huckabee
Position: RM
Age: 18
Jersey #: 11
Club Team: Tundra Falls Mariners
Bio: Possesses everything you could want in a player. Deadly shot, has speed, and is very smart. He’d play up front, but he is best as a winger and used here. Look for him also to be the delivery man on set-pieces.

Name: Edward Robertson
Position: ST
Age: 17
Jersey #: 9
Club Team: Southport Tigers
Bio: Speedy and agile, Robertson is the biggest goal scoring threat on the team. After scoring a goal, instead of celebrating, he will drop to one knee and say a prayer. He dedicates all of his goals to his brother, who is autistic, and donates 10,000 gold coins for every goal he scores to charities for autism.

Name: Kevin Boyle
Position: ST
Age: 17
Jersey #: 19
Club Team: South Tier Seagulls
Bio: Boyle is a great friend of Robertson’s off the pitch and often joins in with his charitable functions since they play for geographically close club teams, and matched Robertson’s donation at the end of the season. Kevin is also speedy and agile, and just as dangerous. He just won’t pray as much.

**** SUBS ****

Name: Shawn Dodge
Position: GK
Age: 20
Jersey #: 21
Club Team: Putnam Lake Eagles
Bio: Tall keeper who relies on positioning more then reflexes. Looked like he would have the upper hand on Marshall until the last few months heading into the Di Bradini Cup. Dodge can be a bit inconsistent.

Name: Todd Smith
Position: CB
Age: 17
Jersey #: 5
Club Team: Centralia Cougars
Bio: They are still playing great defense out there in Centralia, and Smith is next in line to be one of their superstar defenders. He does everything well, but some say he can be outmuscled. Maybe he can, but he’s young.

Name: Jerome Durham
Position: CB
Age: 19
Jersey #: 7
Club Team: Southport Tigers
Bio: Fortunately, there is a defender on the sideline that is much more difficult to beat physically. That would be Durham, a highly aggressive player.

Name: Mark Brady
Position: MID
Age: 16
Jersey #: 16
Club Team: Centralia Cougars
Bio: Offensive-minded sub, first option when team is behind.

Name: Anthony Bonacci
Position: MID
Age: 16
Jersey #: 18
Club Team: Putnam Lake Eagles
Bio: Defensive-minded sub, first option when team is ahead or tied.

Name: Justin Cooney
Position: ST
Age: 17
Jersey #: 12
Club Team: Thumbria Bay Sharks
Bio:Not quite as speedy as the starting forwards, which is why he will come off the bench, but his shot is just as dangerous.

Name: Michael Parrish
Position: ST
Age: 16
Jersey #: 15
Club Team: Olympia Gladiators
Bio: One hope he will only grow a bit. Speedy and skillful, his short size means he will lose out for headers and such pretty much all the time. He is heavily inspired though, by all of the successful elves that have played in international football. He is not an elf, but sometimes his teammates will joke that he is.

**** RESERVES ****

Name: Kris Sanford
Position: GK
Age: 17
Jersey #: 22
Club Team: Centralia Cougars
Bio: The third string keeper will make sure there is plenty of fluid on the sideline and that players coming off the field are greeted with a towel promptly. But if we have to use him, he is here on merit, and should be able to represent himself well.

Name: Richard Hayslett
Position: CB
Age: 15
Jersey #: 24
Club Team: Strausser- “B” League (on loan from Brighton Bulls)
Bio: Hayslett is going to watch and observe for the most part. We’ll probably hear more of him in the future.

Name: William McDevitt
Position: CB/MID
Age: 14
Jersey #: 13
Club Team: Chesterfield- “B” League (on loan from South Charlotte Condors)
Bio: Very smart player, he too is here mainly for the experience.

Name: Joseph Cullen
Position: MID
Age: 15
Jersey #: 17
Club Team: Dover Town- “B” League (on loan from Dover City)
Bio: If called upon, it will be more for defensive purposes.

Name: Shawn Franklin
Position: ST
Age: 14
Jersey #: 25
Club Team: Eastport - “B” League (on loan from Southport Tigers)
Bio: Possesses all the talent you want. He’s just young. You’ll see more of him in the future.

Stacey Keisler, the most successful pitcher in the history of the World Baseball Classic sat in the living room of their mansion in Southport with her 13-year old daughter Courtney sitting on the other end of the couch. They have become the most popular last name in baseball, much like Di Bradini has become in football. Of course, there will be some that dispute that fact, but the Krytenians don’t exactly bow down at the legacy of Simeone, either. The Keisler legacy has grown now, and a junior tournament in baseball has been founded and uses her name; having completed three editions. One thing about Stacey though: She hates football, and while the rest of Newmanistan fantasized about the two most popular sporting names, Keisler & McAllister, joining together, Stacey shrugged it off. Jeremy McAllister, Jr seemed to have interest, and when they were shown at a baseball game together, the tabloids went crazy. They didn’t, because Stacey finds football dull and boring.

In the most recent Keisler Cup, Stacey proclaimed that her daughter would be the second best pitcher of all time by the time her career was done. Second of course, to her. Such an accolade seems ridiculous for a then 11-year old, but in her first game internationally (in an U-13 bracket), Courtney pitched a 9-inning shutout, and the legacy was beginning. She would have another shutout later in the tournament as well. Stacey was so aggressive in her teaching of pitching to her daughter, it was if that was all she knew. Now, she is 13. Still a bit young to pitch in the upcoming World Baseball Classic 17 (though don’t tell Stacey that), but getting at the age where a young girl starts thinking about, you know, boys.

“Mom,” she said, “I have to talk to you.” Stacey, not expecting a serious conversation simply nodded for her daughter to go ahead. “I like this boy in school. I mean like, a lot. A real lot!”

Stacey smiled but wanted to shake it off as irrelevant, but Courtney was about to lay a bombshell on her mother. “He’s 14 and he plays football and he’s like really really good. We were talking and he is really jealous of me. He’s jealous that Newmanistan gets to play in the World Baseball Classic but we don’t do any more sports. He doesn’t think it’s fair.” Stacey nodded as her daughter continued, “and I don’t think it is fair either. I mean we used to do the World Cup. He knows that. It’s not fair so if he can’t play in the World Cup, then I don’t ever want to pitch in the World Baseball Classic, either.”

Stacey couldn’t believe her ears. There was no boy that was going to come between her daughter and pitching for the Rockets. Her maternal instincts were to yell at her daughter, or to even ground her. It was a decision she would be powerless in, right? After all, it’s not as if she makes that kind of decision. So in an attempt to be calm, she took her daughter aside and tried to make her understand that it was something out of her control. But Courtney would not accept that. She was a smart girl and knew the influence that her mother had in Newmanistanian sports. With the McAllisters out of the spotlight, Stacey was the most well known sporting figure going in the Empire, and if anyone could begin to persuade the Emperor to bring the Rockets back into the World Cup, it would be Stacey. Courtney demanded that her mother make the effort, and said that as long as she tried hard, that she would continue to pitch.

Stacey went up to her room, and placed a phone call. She wasn’t really happy with the attitude of her daughter, but maybe this would be for the best.....

Salms sat down and read his newspaper. He looked calm on the exterior, but inside he was terrified. He was breaking the law, and breaking the law was freedom of thought. Freedom of thought wasn't illegal, but it was punishable by death. His friend Carl who also happened to be his strike partner Larry's brother walked into the room. Samuel nodded a hello and Carl responded with a "Hey." Carl sat down and decided something. He told Samuel something that had been on his mind for a bit.

King Lucas sat back. He scrolled through the channels on his royal television. No sports were clogging up the channels anymore. Instead there were many funny re runs of sitcoms. Such as "The Kazzorian family", "The Blue Adler" and "Only Idiots and horses." He sat back and watched his television, and unlike the normal peoples Televisions his TV didn't send messages to love your king and not to disobey him. He liked that.

Carl said what he thought. He said he wanted to go home with Larry. He decided that Larry was to young to die. Samuels begged him to stay, but Carl wouldn't have it. Carl packed his bags and left. Samuel was upset, but being upset wouldn't help. He laid down and went to bed and had many bad dreams about Carl being caught and executed.

"Hello and welcome to KISPTV the pirate TV station for you. Well it wasn't originally, but after sports were banned we were forced to. Anyway here I am in Starblaydia and what an atmosphere! There is lot of excitement around the Kazzorian camp and here 10 million Kazzorians. They are all excited and ready to riot. More would have travelled over but sports are illegal. So lets get on with this cup!"

Foxes don't know what to expect in first match

The 16th edition of the Di Bradini Cup will kickoff with Saugeais facing Kazzoria. Kazzoria, while not winning any major tournaments, has been scrappy in the past and will give the Foxes a run for their money. "I expect a great match out there," says manager Benoit Howard, "This will be our first match against Kazzoria, but I know how they will play after watching a few of their matches." One of Howard's assistants came up to him and whispered something in his ear, at which point Howard's expression changed from a stern poker face to a surprised look. "Well, it seems I've been informed that Kazzoria isn't as deep or as experienced in their squad this year. In fact King Lucas even banned the team, so I don't know how they got here or if they'll still play at all. Nevertheless, I still hope for a good match, and it will not affect how I will train my boys. And I expect the Kazzorian manager to do the same."

Stacey Keisler couldn’t call the Emperor directly, as after all, not many people could. But to get the ball rolling, she thought the best person to call would be baseball team coach Christina Sanders. Sanders had also coached her as a player domestically with the Southport Tigers, so the two had a very close relationship with one another.

“Hello,” responded Sanders on the other end, “Nice to hear from you Stacey, how’s it going...”

“Pretty well, but the problem is Courtney. She is being really stubborn. She met this boy who plays football and that’s not the bad part, but it’s that she feels really bad for his plight. I guess he plays for Eastport in some minor league and he thinks he’s good enough to play in the World Cup. So naturally Courtney feels that it isn’t fair, and if I don’t do something, she’s going to stop pitching. We can’t have that.....”

“Well, what can you do? It’s not like you can make that kind of a decision.....”

“I know, I guess she will accept the fact if I try real hard or something. So what do you think? Do you think you could talk to some in Pocono City that can convince the Emperor to allow us to send a World Cup team again? I don’t really care about it, and I’d rather people not know the real reason I am so against football....”

“Yeah, well, you made your bed with that decision, Stacey. Will you ever tell Courtney the truth?”

“No, never.... she doesn’t need to know who her father is. It’s worked out so far and she’d never be able to live a normal life if the media knew about you-know-what. Junior’s ok with it, and knows it’s for the best. She’s kept my last name for a reason.”

“You were afraid the blood from that side of the family would lead her to football, I know. She’s one hell of a pitcher, she’s never played football because I wouldn’t let her. I had to convince her that it was a boring as hell sport....”

“Does Jeremy ever ask about her?”

“Not any more. Well maybe every now and then, but hardly ever. He knows she’s doing ok with her being on the news now and being hyped as a future World Baseball Classic pitcher. But Chrissy, the reason I call is that you have connections in Pocono City. More then I do. Please do something to make it appear as though I want to get the team back in the World Cup. One of those Di Bradini things are coming up, right?”

“Stacey, I have to admit I like the fact that we are the only national team that plays in the big tournaments now. The World Cup was nothing but a hassle, and it detracted from the Empire’s sporting focus on baseball, which is where it should be. (Pauses) Then again, I know the Empire wants us back in the World Cup. It’s been tough for them. I guess I can see what I could do. It’d be good, I suppose.”

(The two finish up some small talk and hang up)

Christina Sanders picked up the phone and dialed the direct line for the President of National Sporting Affairs. As if she was trying to convince an umpire to change a called ball to a called strike, she was able to get the person to speak to the Emperor. Upon hearing the request, Emperor Michael IV, got up, stood outside, and looked to the heavens.

“Jessica (the deceased Empress), it’s time. We’ve suffered enough. Let us go back.” There was no response, no signs, but the Emperor didn’t let that bother him. “I know you trusted me to make the right decisions. It’s time. We’re going back. Let’s get a football team together and on to the World Cup!”

The advisor looked at him and smiled and mentioned there was a Di Bradini Cup first. The Emperor smiled, “We start there! The square root of sixteen is four. The square root of our future is the past. Let’s play! Let’s do it!”

Word soon traveled around the Empire, and days went by before Courtney Keisler’s boyfriend, Shawn Franklin would be going to Starblaydia. He’d be a reserve for now, but he didn’t care. She couldn’t be happier. With a football lying at near the center circle on a field behind their school, Courtney lined it up and took a shot, just for the hell of it. Nothing but net!

“Damn girl, nice shot!” Exclaimed Shawn, “Almost like it was in your blood!”

Osarius Under-21 National Football Team

The Osarian under-21 contingent - affectionately labelled "The Flying Sparks" - are returning for the fourth time to compete in the Di Bradini Cup. After two successive final appearances, and two defeats, the press at home are optimistic, although they dare not state outright that they believe that the latest crop of youth can go all the way. They will be wearing the same colours as last time - the classic red, black and gold donned by most professional Osarian sides.

The team's head coach - Alain Montblanc - has had a huge boost to his reputation in recent years, thanks to the relative success of the nation's youngsters as opposed to the senior team. His philosophy seems to borrow from several other prominent coaches in Osarius, though. He somehow manages to combine Benedict di Corradi's aggressive offensive tactics - including pressing the ball high up the pitch, and a flexible forward line - with the solid defensive tatics of Sir George Pennant and Elissa Barca-Carthy (who is on-hand to assist Montblanc). The team's focus is centred on the heart of the midfield, thanks to Ayanna Barca-Carthy's possession of the captain's armband, and it is not uncommon to see a forward drop deep into that area to ensure that The Flying Sparks are dominant there.

The squad itself has many changes from last time around, where they were humbled in a 3-0 defeat to Cafundeu in the final. Montblanc stresses that most of these changes are due to age restrictions, however, and not because of a perceived lack of quality in last year's squad.

#01 - GK - 21 y/o - Marco Corradini (Cymrwell FC - on loan from Burningham City F.C.)
#02 - LB - 20 y/o - Gennaro Criscito (Rapid Hearthlands)
#03 - RB - 20 y/o - Federico Agnelli (Muirford Athletic F.C.)
#04 - CB - 21 y/o - Harvey Decker (Grasshoppers Turic F.C.)
#05 - CB - 21 y/o - Carlo Romano (Pythons [QPM])
#06 - DM - 19 y/o - Marvin Turner (Burningham City F.C.)
#07 - RM - 21 y/o - Enrico Martelli (Cymrwell FC)
#08 - ST - 17 y/o - Romario Roberts (Greeningham City F.C.)
#09 - ST - 21 y/o - Dante Speranzo (Utica United F.C.)
#10 - AM - 18 y/o - Pepito (Real Jraxville F.C.)
#11 - LM - 21 y/o - Rodrigo Beltran (Burningham City F.C.)
#12 - GK - 21 y/o - Tanya Potter (Real Rajahara FC)
#13 - GK - 18 y/o - Damian Berenguer (Renneville United F.C.)
#14 - CF - 19 y/o - Kimberley Wilkinson (Trothwands Evolution)
#15 - CB - 19 y/o - Conor Kinsella (Burningham City F.C.)
#16 - CM - 20 y/o - Alvaro Iniesta (AFC Hollybrent)
#17 - LM - 18 y/o - Jade Gross (AFC Hollybrent)
#18 - RM - 19 y/o - Tracie Hall (Trothwands Evolution)
#19 - LM - 20 y/o - Autumn Phelps (Violia FC)
#20 - CM - 21 y/o - Ayanna Barca-Carthy (Real Jraxville F.C.)
#21 - CF - 20 y/o - Olive Lawrence (Burningham City F.C.)
#22 - SW - 18 y/o - Manraj Dhillon (Firewood City F.C.)
#23 - LB - 19 y/o - Lincoln Shepherd (Renneville United F.C.)

The typical starting line-up and formation is as follows:

----------------------------------------
----------------Speranzo----------------
----------------------------------------
----------------------Roberts-----------
----------------------------------------
--Phelps--------------------------------
----------------------------------------
------------------------------Martelli--
----------------------------------------
-------------------Pepito---------------
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
---------Barca-Carthy-------------------
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
--Criscito---------------------Agnelli--
----------Decker--------Romano----------
----------------------------------------
----------------Corradini---------------
----------------------------------------

The team relies on Barca-Carthy's midfield dominance as a ball-winner primarily. Her superb passing range then allows her to pick out any of her five attacking teammates - all of whom possess great pace - on the counterattack. Romario Roberts' impressive debut season at Greeningham City has seen him get the call to act as a target man in effect, winning aerial balls to knock them down, or flick on to the deadly Dante Speranzo. However, Roberts' pace as well as his strength enable him to either stretch the opposition defence, creating space for the midfield, or to drop deep and aid his own midfield, whie leaving more space behind opposition defenders for Speranzo to exploit. Undoubtedly one of the biggest threats in the Osarian squad this time around, and reminiscent of a young Calvin Harris.

The wingers, Enrico Martelli and Autumn Phelps are well known wide threats back home, but less-so on an international stage. Martelli's impressive performances for the national team, and Phelps' run in the side under Elissa Barca-Carthy, have highlighted that the seemingly imminent departure of the aging Watson brothers from the senior squad will not harm the Firebirds' chances too much. Phelps is the bigger goal threat, hence her slightly more advanced position. While Martelli is much better at operating from a deeper position, putting dangerous crosses into the box, and when you have an aerial threat like Roberts, that's something to be feared.

At the back, The Flying Sparks have a pretty reliable custodian in the form of Marco Corradini, a fourth generation descendant of the legendary Hollybrent goalkeeper and C.E.O. of Corradini Sports, Inc., Enzo Corradini. In front of him stand four of the most promising defenders in the country. Harvey Decker is often likened to his mentor and former clubmate, Firebirds veteran Tay Gidds. This is most likely due to Decker's propensity for all-out, body-on-the-line defending, and remarkable athleticism. Beside him usually stands the understated Carlo Romano. If you need an indicator of Romano's talent, just note that he was picked up by Pythons, of Pocoan fame, at just eighteen. Pythons have a reputation for developing young players, and Romano is no exception. The classy centre back is wanted in his homeland, but prefers to remain in Queer Poco el Mono Ara for the time being.

The fullbacks are perhaps the two most important members of the team. Considering Montblanc's tactical preferences, Federico Agnelli and Gennaro Criscito are required to cover more ground than any other player, as they sprint forward to support on attacks, as well as having to drop straight back and defend. Both are capable crossers of the ball and possess great pace, but some fear that they are not strong enough tactically or defensively to carry out both parts of their duty effectively. In fact, Donovan MacLean and Roberto Cormega, among others, have expressed concerns that Montblanc may be forced to alter his tactics a little to compensate for this possible defensive shortfall.
