Tarrentum National Football Team Rosters: Tarrentum Falcons

Managerial Staff
Manager- Gregori Burindi has led the Napoliroma Legion to five out of the last seven Tarrentum Premier Football League Cup Championships. Burindi successfully brought the (formerly named) Imperials into the TPFL from the Armed Forces League (AFL) only 10 years ago and has found tremendous success since. His ability to help negotiate high-end contracts for the best footballers in Tarrentum has lent to the past success of the Legion.
Assistant ManagerAlexander Italiana, the magnificent brother of Tarrentum’s Eternal Supreme President Borgia Italiana, has been a meddling manager of FC Yuppers, in the TPFL, for seven years. His appointment is largely seen as politically and corporately focused as his nephew, Supreme President Cesare Italiana, was largely instrumental in putting his name forward. The Yupping Yuppers are also owned by Alexander’s food company, Yuppers…“For Supper!” (as the slogan goes).
Head CoachDelphine Gabriella Italiana, sister to Supreme President Cesare Italiana, Delphine is the only female coach in the non-gender integrated TPFL. Her credentials are beyond reproach however as she has lead the Krozuy Academics to three out of the last five Cup Championship Matches (winning one).

Starters names are bolded, Primary position denoted by ^^
(Name; Birth City, Tarrentum Premier League Football Club)

Strikers
Rubinu Warti; Lake Empress, Krozuy Academics (ST^^, RW) – Warti’s contributions to the Academics have been sporadic the past two years but his devotion and loyalty to Tarrentum have been well documented. He has won the coveted Most Patriotic and Loyal Footballer award the four out of the past five years. Age: 39, Goals: 5, Assists: 5
Henry Qund; Stroudsville, Tarburr, Krozuy Academics (RW^^, LW) – Qund is originally Tarburr by birth but was raised since the of age three in Tarrentum. He was granted official citizenship and birthright by the Supreme President on his 21st birthday in recognition to his already substantial contributions to the TPFL. By that time Qund had already shown his great worth to the Academics by leading them in goals for the past three years. Qund has tremendous speed and chip shot accuracy. Age: 30, Goals: 26, Assists: 10
Sandroni Sadroni; Apolln, FC Yuppers (LW^^, ST, RW) CAPTAIN – Sadroni has been a tour de force in the TPFL since his emergence onto the national scene 13 years ago. Not a great finesse player but his ability to eye the opposing defensive set piece and find the open assist has led to his two MVP awards during the middle of his career. He’s lost a step since his debut over a decade ago but his grueling, physical play is something to watch. Age: 35, Goals: 5, Assists: 7
Garto Nicolli; Trumboi, Galitz FCA (RW, LW^^) – Nicolli has seen extensive time on the national level and has garnered a lot of experience playing in international friendlies. Nicolli’s contributions to Galitz have been minimized but have been impressive. In the 20 games he has appeared in during TPFL matches, Galitz has recorded at least a goal or an assist in each one. He is a specialist with the corner kick. Age: 32, Goals: 12, Assists: 9
Noel Gennesse (pronounced “Jen-nah-see”); Yui, Yui State College Women’s Soccer (ST^^, RW, LW) – Gennesse was picked up by the National Squad specifically for the Queen’s Cup – as the TPFL is not gender-integrated. Gennesse was the top women’s soccer player in Tarrentum this year and posted 15 Goals for the Lady Bears. Age: 20, Goals: 15, Assists: 2 NTCC Stats

Midfielders
Sforza Italiana; Napoliroma, Tre Da La (CM^^, CMD) – The adored Sforza Italiana, youngest brother of Supreme President Cesare Italiana, has proved many analysts wrong by become a very good player in the TPFL. This year he was named Captain of TPFL Champion Tre Da La, the youngest in the league’s history. Sforza has great speed but loses sight of open passes and opportunities easily. His lack of ball discipline also leads to a bunch of yellow cards. Age: 22, Goals: 8, Assists: 5
Stefano Nastromani; Pullo, FC Yuppers (LM^^, ST, LW) – Nastromani is widely seen and respected as one of the best young footballers throughout all of Tarrentum. His intelligence, quick feet and shot selection have made him a very dangerous weapon. He was the youngest ever player on a TPFL club when he signed at the age of 18 after his collegiate career. He has gradually risen to become a main fixture of the Yupping Yuppers. Age: 20, Goals: 10, Assists: 4
Judasi Kypa; Upper Didi, FC Yuppers (RM^^, LM) – Kypa is the perfect finesse player. He rarely draws a card and has won the unofficial Lady Kristiana Trophy the past three years for his humanitarian contributions. Kypa is the consummate team player. Age: 30, Goals: 5, Assists: 5
Fredo Tulu; Bolonza, Napoliroma Legion (CM^^, CB) – Tulu’s contributions to the Legion have centered around the expert command of the midfield and direction of the set pieces. His inclusion on the national team is the subject of speculation and controversy as he has been linked to an affair with Delphine Italiana for the past three years which has kept the Tarrentian tabloids ripe with new stories. Age: 37, Goals: 2
Rutgar Vincinz; Doria, Walli Walli FC (RM^^, LW) – Vincinz has been the leading man at Walli Walli recently being given a new contract by the club last year. He brings a menacing presence to the pitch drawing a large amount of yellow cards. Age: 31, Goals: 9, Red Cards: 5
Borgia Callami; Apolln, Krozuy Academics (LM^^, RM) – Callami shows flashes of brilliance at times but is mostly seen as a solid footballer by most of the TPFL reporters. Age: 34, Goals: 2, Assists: 7

Defenders
Treppen Uppenilli; Kuli Caffron, Galitz FC (RB^^, LB) – Uppenilli is a strong, intelligent defender that has helped Galitz to a respectable record this past year. He is great at drawing offside calls. He has also been voted the Sexiest Footballer in Tarrentum for five straight years. Age: 28, Goals: 8, Female Body Parts Autographed Last Year: 492
Claudius Bacanelli; Krozuy, FC Yuppers (RCB^^, LCB, RB) – Bacanelli has provided the Yupping Yuppers a key defensive footballer who has helped the club move up in TPFL tables. He is noted as one of the quickest defenders in the TPFL. Age: 29
Justinian Tremani; Gallen, Krozuy Academics (LCB^^, LB) – Tremani has been voted the top Defensive Player in the TPFL three out of the past five years. Tremani has learned to compensate for his lack of speed with his excellent down-pitch vision. Age: 34
Olli Vaspa; Vardin Mountain, Napoliroma Legion (LB^^, RB) – Vaspa has seen extensive time in the Legion backfield due to his aggressiveness and quickness. Age: 27
Nico Lardorama; Trulin, Walli Walli FC (RCB^^, LCB) – Lardorama is known throughout the TPFL for his intense and aggressive play. He has drawn a fair amount of yellow cards of the past season. Age: 32, Red Cards: 2
Gregor Fluti; Vardin Mountain, Krozuy Academics (LB^^, RB) – Fluti has seen his stock rise along with Tremani on the Academics. Their play together is widely seen as a main reason for the Academics success in the TPFL. Age: 31
Sarudi Julian; Napoliroma, Illian Grasshoppers (LCB^^, RCB, LB) – Julian is the star player for the lowly Grasshoppers but has spent the majority of his time away from the club either training for the national team or appearing in his hit sitcom “You Wish You Were That Cool” which is continually nominated for multiple Tarrentum Actors Association Awards. Age: 28
Walri Castanella; Yui, Galitz FC (RB^^, LB, CM) – Castanella has proven a boon to Galitz since his rookie season. His defensive awareness is in a league of its own and his ability to cut off the attack has been seen as the reason for Galitz’ recent success. Age: 24

Goalkeepers
Raspu Tucadi; Trulin, Krozuy Academics – Tucadi has been a key reason for the Academics winning ways the past few seasons. He takes over as the number one goalkeeper for the national team after Bodacello’s failing play at the international level. Age: 30
Goran Balboa; Apolln City, Tre Da La – Balboa’s ability to make the amazing save propelled the Singing Club to its first TPFL Championship this year. Balboa’s highlight reel acrobats are tempered by the more-than-occasional missed save.

Home Away Third

Manager

Daugar Massimo
Age: 17,441
After his success at club football, Massimo nearly had his managerial star become the brightest in the universe when he guided the Marauders back to the Final in World Cup 51, but ultimately fell in his attempt to win Valanora's fourth World Cup. With confidence in his tactics and managerial abilities no longer in doubt by the media, Massimo was ready to make it third time lucky and succeed where he failed last tournament, winning World Cup 52 in convincing fashion.

Assistant Manager

Gilmeluon Werlothas
Age - 12,868
A strong and steady second in command who is the liaison between Massimo and his squad.

Keeper

1 GK Lona Taldel, Club ESF
Age - 688
Sex - F
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 154 lbs
Taldel finally earns her way back into the side thanks in large part to two magnificent seasons with Club ESF. She is hoping that a good performance will earn her a spot at the next World Cup in the Vanorian roster.

Defenders

2 Hanutaut Lilithian, Tenderville United (Nethertopia)
Age - 600
Sex - F
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 154 lbs
Agile and a superb little bit of tackling skill are her best attributes and she uses them well to confound attacking players into making plays that they would rather not.

3 Esaurassë Shaalvail, Mar Sara FC
Age - 722
Sex - F
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 167 lbs
Shaalvail is meant to be the enforcer for the side and has a rough but clean approach to the game. Referees that follow the letter of the law rather than the spirit of the law may end up booking her more often cause of her rough play, but lenient referees often see it as fair.

4 Anuialya Gadragthor, Club ESF ~
Age - 587
Sex - F
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 128 lbs
She may be a tad on the short side to be anchoring the center of the defense, but her work rate and successful tackle percentage is all the proof Massimo needed to put her there and leave Lilithian in her natural spot.

Midfield

5 Filwame Omasas, FC Capri
Age: 608
Sex - F
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 164 lbs
Omasas is all about attacking the opponent as many times as you can with diagonals and great through balls. Though she lacks the pace of a Tathmin or Haevathar, she is lethal in the air on dead ball situations with her height and great positioning.

10 Aintôrthea Durosa, Cafundó do Juta (Cafundeu)
Age - 724
Sex - F
Height: 5"10"
Weight: 144 lbs
Durosa is one of those players that can play just about any position, as her skill set is vast and adequate in multiple areas. She has done exceptionally well in her CMSC seasons, nabbing goals and assists with regularity and has continued with her transfer to the Cafundeu league.

7 Merenwen Lúinwë, Hondo FC
Age - 645
Sex - F
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 147 lbs
Hondo's Lúinwë is a player who has it all, much in the mold of Faeron Soldarian. Great passing skills, wonderful vision, enough pace to be a world class track star, and a never say die attitude. If not for Durosa's experience, she likely would have been captain.

8 Elarwen Tallaion, Juavi FC
Age - 685
Sex - F
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 165 lbs
Tallaion is a hard working wide player whose cross is decent but it is her commitment to getting back that gives her the edge over the other candidates for the job. On set pieces, she likes to get in the box and mix it up.

6 Innathwen Tathmin, Club ESF ~
Age - 809
Sex - F
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 143 lbs
Tathmin is one of those pass and go attacking midfielders that has loads of pace and vision, but who really can't shake defenders when she is on the ball. She is lethal once inside the area and loves to initiate one two to get her chances on goal.

Strikers

9 Rharanthea Kithaldar, Soldarian FC
Age - 786
Sex - F
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 154 lbs
Kithaldar is a hybrid sort of striker that is lean and agile but likes to hold up play just as much as she likes to on one on one with defenders. Her first touch is superb, with many first time half volleys finding their way into the back of the net.

11 Arahileth Haevathar, Mar Sara FC
Age - 597
Sex - F
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 143 lbs
Haevathar is a lightning fast little striker who can dribble circles around opposition players and set up her strike partner nearly as well as she can finish herself.

Subs
12 GK Anathiaiel Elersumé, age 635, Rolalas FC (F) ~
22 GK Tardathiel Galonmin, age 492, Kareen FC (F)
14 CB Filiriel Undotaur, age 681, Raynor City United (F)
13 CB Úthladiel Elendhen, age 780, Club Valanora (F)
15 CB Ertartha Runelenthir, age 656, Kareen FC (F) ~
16 LW Filthenraya Haeeme, age 680, Club ESF (F)
19 RW Medyavwen Undoelon, age 724, Rolalas FC (F)
17 MC Caraniel Larentalhûn, age 597, Raynor City United (F)
16 MC Berdëmiel Nardhrinonel, age 667, Soldarian FC (F)
18 AMC Filtiiadhya Elerdel, age 804, Rolalas FC (F)
20 ST Inala Duran, age 588, FC Capri (F) ~
21 ST Rainglertharia Cromlond, age 548, AC Valanari (F)

Captain: Aintôrthea Durosa
Set Piece Taker: Innathwen Tathmin
Penalty Taker: Rharanthea Kithaldar
Right Corner: Aintôrthea Durosa
Left Corner: Aintôrthea Durosa

Taldel
Lilithian Gadragthor Shaalvail
Omasas Lúinwë Durosa Tallaion

Sarzonia Stars

Manager: Brenda Campbell (46 years old). She had a strong playing and coaching career in Sarzonia’s women’s football league (the Sarzonian Football League), though her past few years have been away from the pitch as a member of Sarzonia’s Federal Trade and Commerce Committee. She was lured away from a position making twice her salary by the challenge of putting together a premier national football side.

Assistant Manager: Lacey Chastain (55 years old). Chastain recently came out of her retirement from the Sarzonian Football League to coach the Woodstock Justice, which finished last season third from the top, its worst-ever finish. Chastain brings a defence-oriented approach to her job in contrast to Campbell’s attack-minded concept of play.

GK 1 Lisa Bridger (Portland Pride), (5’10”, 158 pounds), 35 years old. Captain
This veteran of 13 years in the Sarzonian Football League backstopped the Stars to a finals appearance in the first-ever Women's World Cup. Her experience will be counted on heavily as the team tries to restore its glory days of three years ago.

D 2 Esther Ciccone (Under 21 national team), (5'6", 127 pounds), 20
Ciccone nearly made the Woodstock Justice in a rare open tryout for the Sarzonian Football League side. As it stands, she stars on her university's women's football side and is their captain. She has been named the first alternate captain on the Junior Stars.

M 3 Elise Raven (Under 21 national team), (5'7 140 pounds), 20
A younger sister of former Sarzonian female footballing legend Jenna Raven, Elise Raven maintains some of her mother's ball skills and her leadership abilities.

D 4 Joanne McVeigh (Woodstock Justice), (5’7” , 143 pounds), 28
Known as an excellent one v. one marker, she often marks the opposing team’s top forward. She spends enough time working out that she can get physical even when the Justice play friendlies against men’s teams. She leads the SFL in cautions and send offs.

D 7 Laura Barkley (Wilmington Warriors), (5’11, 150 pounds), 24
Another physical player, she has helped turn the Warriors into the most physical team in the SFL.

*8 M Laura Grover (Men's national team player), 5'6 125 pounds, 26
Grover, 26, dispelled any questions about whether a woman should start for the men's team by drawing comparisons to Jenna Raven, a star player for both Sarzonia's men's and women's World Cup sides. She has strong scoring touch, notching 11 goals in 27 matches for the Woodstock Justice in Sarzonia's women's league. Her coach? You guessed it, Jenna Raven.

*9 D Carletta Ryan (Men's national team player), 5'7 135 pounds, 27
By far the most physical player in Sarzonian women's football, Ryan has no problems mixing it up with women or men. Set a women's league record for most yellow cards and red cards in one season. Earned a red card in the AOCAF 29 semifinals that forced her to miss Sarzonia's 3-1 victory. Even former senior national team goon Spencer Hicks wouldn't mess with her.

10 M Landra Tennison (Woodstock) (5’6, 133 pounds), 32
She once earned a spot in the starting 11 on the Stars for AOCAF VIII after an impressive tryout where she out-physicaled several men. She’s one of the oldest players on this Stars side.

M 11 Rickie Willsie (Portland) (5’2", 118 pounds), 25
She’s often known as the little defensive midfielder who gets in the way of the skilled middies and has drawn more yellow cards than anyone in league history.

*12 D Colleen Barnaby (Portland Pride), (5'8", 135 pounds), 30
Barnaby is a reserve because Campbell wants her team to set a physical tone with Ryan in the starting 11. She plays for the Portland Pride, which developed an intense rivalry with the Woodstock Justice. She has some trouble with more physical midfielders and forwards, but usually has the savvy to avoid problems.

13 M Darla Campbell (FC Tacoma) (5’4”, 140 pounds), 23 years old.
Yet another youthful player on a team seemingly brimming with them, Campbell is no relation to the coach. However, she patrols the left wing like few other players on the team can.

14 M Wilhelmina Benson (free agent) (6’0”, 175 pounds), 23 years old.
She’s arguably the strongest player on the team. She’d also be among the strongest players on a men’s team. The drawback is her speed isn’t where the other players in midfield are.

15 M Kendra Gregory (unaffiliated) (5’7”, 155 pounds), 22 years old.
She was declared academically ineligible for her college team so she quit university. She’s been trying to catch on with a professional side.

16 D Soriyana Ngolu (Somerset University), (5’8, 144 pounds), 20
Adds depth to the defence. She first played for the women Stars when she was a high school student. Now she adds a bit more seasoning and maturity to her raw skills.

17 F Vonnie Butler (no affiliation), (5’8”, 145 pounds), 30
Yes, the same Vonnie Butler who is also the technical director of the Women's World Cup team. When she realised she hadn't installed any forwards on the squad, and when Campbell found out that she was still the best women's striker in the country in a training session, she signed back on as a player.

18 GK Brianne Walker (Under 21 national team) (6'0, 170 pounds), 20
Extremely burly for a goalkeeper, particularly a female goalkeeper, she nearly won the starting job with the Under 21s until Henshaw earned a clean sheet in a match against the Wild. She is determined to learn as much as she can from Bridger.

20 F Jenna Raven (no affiliation), (5’8", 151 pounds), 29
She hadn't played forward since before her days with the men's Under 21 national team, but Raven described playing the position again as being akin to riding a bike. She said she enjoys leaving the broadcast booth for the football pitch.

Group draw, and we ain't happy

Well the group draw is out and we aren't to please. Three opponents who qualified for the previous world cup and another opponent who will not be an easy win. The only game that we have a really good chance in is against Sratos. This could be a struggle and doubtless we only have a small chance of reaching the next round.

Valanora- Even before the last world cup they were a terrifying opponent and now they are even worst. They have won their fourth world cup title now and will defiantly be looking for more silverware. We can't even begin to think about how well we will have to play to get past them and win. This could be hard.

Cafundeu- They may not have much to brag about in the way of trophies, but they are still dangerous to play and hard to stop. This could be a very hard on and they could prove impossible to beat. Still it's always worth a try isn't it? Well I say that, but still many people disagree. Anyway good luck lads *Cough*

Albundania- Before the last world cup we would have been more confident, but now we are nearly wetting ourselves. They will be a tough opponent and hard to beat like the other two above them. We still hope to get a draw against them, but that could prove harder than before still we will attempt it.

Cosumar- They might be easier to beat, but this game isn't one to be taken lightly. They could be one of the great shocks in this cup and we expect them to do well. Being optimistic we will play for a win only, but in future we might regret it. The lads may need luck on their side in this game so all you Mossulia fans out there, pray to the obscure gods.

Sratos- Despite everything, we think we could win this. The team is unknown and won't be too difficult to beat. Still no game in international football is easy as they say so this game will not be taken lightly by us. Still we have a certain win here, and I am not being sarcastic.

Benedict di Corradi's controversial refusal to take a team to Cassadaigua - perhaps something to do with what one might call a chauvinist attitude - has left the OFA with the perfect opportunity to effectively give one of his potential successors a shot at the job. With that in mind, as well as an informal request from the Cassadagan Association for Soccer Excellence (CASE), they have chosen to appoint Elissa Barca-Carthy as the team's manager for this tournament. Due to requests from several King's League managers - perhaps stemming from di Corradi's refusal to take the competition seriously - as well as the ongoing Di Bradini Cup in Krytenia requiring the services of some of her favourites, Barca-Carthy has opted to send what one could describe as an Osarius "B" team. This is perhaps a little unfair on some of the players, though, who have featured on at least a semi-regular basis for the national team, or at under 23 or under 21 level. Despite the squad being weaker on paper, it should not impact too heavily on the quality of play, as many of these players - as well as their coach for the tournament - are effectively taking part in what could be seen as an audition, so they're not exactly short of motivation.

Barca-Carthy's tactical style is a little different to di Corradi's, but she is reluctant to move too far away from the offensive style the fans have grown to love. Instead, she has her team focus on a solid formation and good positioning, and winning possession. From there, the aim is to get the team to play a swift counter-attacking game to capitalise on the natural athleticism of the players.

Style Modifier: +1

The squad is as follows:
(women are highlighted pink for easy reference)

#01 - Jasveer Gulati - 23 years old - Goalkeeper (Firewood City F.C.)
#02 - Georgina Carsley - 25 years old - Left Back (Greeningham City F.C.)
#03 - Gennaro Criscito - 19 years old - Right/Left Back (Spoturess FC)
#04 - JayVaughn Harris - 20 years old - Centre Back (Utica United F.C.)
#05 - Carlo Romano - 20 years old - Centre back (Pythons [Queer Poco el Mono Ara])
#06 - Hope Peranio - 27 years old - Centre Midfield (Hastmead Diamante CFC)
#07 - Liliana Racine - 27 years old - Left Midfield (Renneville United F.C.)
#08 - Gabriel Russell - 25 years old - Attacking Midfield (Firewood City F.C.)
#09 - Rhianna Johnson - 26 years old - Centre Forward (FV Harmonie [Paripana])
#10 - Benni Watson - 31 years old - Right/Left Winger (Firewood City F.C.)
#11 - Claudia Gonzalez - 24 years old - Attacking Midfield (Callisto City F.C.)
#12 - Peter Clarkson - 23 years old - Goalkeeper (AFC Hollybrent)
#13 - Lara Chang - 21 years old - Goalkeeper (Pinturici Rangers F.C.)
#14 - Catherine Greene - 26 years old - Centre Forward (Fort Mare)
#15 - Valeria Ayala - 18 years old - Centre Back (Renneville United F.C.)
#16 - Liliana Sandoval - 19 years old - Centre Back (Maharia United F.C.)
#17 - Janet Duffy - 19 years old - Left Back (AFC Hollybrent)
#18 - Ashley Blake - 26 years old - Centre Forward (Firewood City F.C.)
#19 - Joaquin Martinez - 23 years old - Right Midfield (AFC Hollybrent)
#20 - Cassandra Palacios - 28 years old - Centre Midfield (Hastmead Diamante CFC)
#21 - Autumn Phelps - 19 years old - Left Midfield (Violia F.C.)
#22 - Christine Sullivan - 23 years old - Striker (AFC Hollybrent)
#23 - Christy Cameron - 19 years old - Right Back (Masaka FC)

The captain for the tournament is current OFA Player of the Year and most capped Osarian footballer, Benni Watson. As the oldest member of the squad, and easily the most experienced, Watson has been tasked with the leadership role, with Hope Peranio serving as his deputy. His tactical awareness and technical ability are said to rival those of Barca-Carthy, and he is as driven as di Corradi himself, so there is little worry about a loss of shape or focus here. Meanwhile Peranio is a loud, lead-by-example type captain, so there are no concerns over her ability to rouse the team should they slump.

The typical line-up is likely to be in a 4-5-1/4-3-3 flex formation, as favoured by di Corradi against stronger nations.
The most likely Starting XI is as follows:

----------------------------------------
----------------Johnson-----------------
----------------------------------------
---Racine----------------------Watson---
----------------------------------------
----------Gonzalez-----Russell----------
----------------------------------------
-----------------Peranio----------------
----------------------------------------

-----------Harris------Romano-----------

-----------------Gulati-----------------

Queen Sonya To Visit Cassadaigua

Queen Sonya Sabre looked out over the blue-green waters of the ocean as “The Sea Sprite” slid soundlessly through the waters where dolphins raced alongside and gulls called to each other as they trailed after the heavy timbered galleon. To either side could be seen two more of the hulking warships as they played escort to the Queen of the Sylvanae as she made the journey to Cassadaigua, where she would be on the sidelines for all Mystical Unicorn matches and visiting another country seemingly dominated by women. It would be a grand adventure. Unfortunately, Lord Dorian had declined to make the journey stating that he would, more than likely, pay visit to Krytenia and check out the performance of the U21 squad.

She looked over the newly announced group draw and smiled. Some familiar names there. The Babbage Islands were a side that the Unicorns had faced twice during the most recent qualifiers for the World Cup. Matches against them were always pleasant, even when hotly contested. ASMV were another side the Unicorns had seen before, and despite the fact that they were rumored to be sending a U19 side, would be a tough match as well. Secristan is a tough side as well and will be hard to beat.

The other two sides, Gbeckastania and Meddicia she did not know. But sometimes newcomers have a way off crushing the hopes of higher sides.

All in all, this would be a great trip. Now to inform her hosts that they indeed would be her hosts.

U19s Carry ASMV Hopes

The Queen’s Cup in Cassadaigua was a last second entry for ASMV, following the Sea Dragon’s amazing run to take home the Championship trophy for the 44th Cup of Harmony. With the Sea Dragon squad now on a nicely earned vacation and the 2nd side in preparation for the AOCAF, it wasn’t clear as to why we would enter such a tournament or who we would send to compete in it.

Errion Vega FK, our domestic champions, are off to play in an international cup event and the U21 squad was dissolved due to the top tier of that squad’s age already playing for the national sides in some capacity. That leaves only one avenue for ASMV to take as it gears up to compete in a tournament we probably should have skipped. The U19 women’s developmental squad will make the journey to Cassadaigua.

Young and talented, they may just be able to make some noise. But then again maybe not. The Babbage Islands, Secristan, and those stinking Elves of D&S await us. At least the trip will give the girls some much needed experience.

Here are the U19’s, and since it ha been ruled that all sides representing the Draggonnii Socialist Empire be known as Sea Dragons, they are the latest edition of a proud namesake.

The Babbage Islands Queens Cup Roster

Nicknames: Bumblebees, Islanders
Colours: Yellow and black

Manager: Ganz Ijak. When the former Cafundelense striker took over the Bumblebees before World Cup 49, they were ranked 62 in the world. Today under the Hall of Famer's leadership they're ranked third, with two third-places and three final eights in the last three World Cups.

Formation: 4-6-0. The Bumblebees are the world's most visible practitioners of a strikerless scheme. The back line stays home, two of the six midfielders are positioned centrally to swing between attack and defence, and the other four midfielders are two wingers, a forward playmaker, and a nine-and-a-half type. The front four emphasise mobility to create mismatches on the pitch.

Style: +2.5. Fond of the attack but not reckless.

Keepers

1: Gene Little 24 K 10/0 FK Maribor
13: Elizabeth Hanna 22 K 16/0 Dover City

Expect Little and Hanna, Solveig's backups in World Cup 52, to trade starts as they battle for the WC 53 starting job. As you might expect from the issuance of jersey #1, it's Little's job to lose.

Defenders

2: Lucy Barton 23 D 23/2 North Ward (Sportgirls)
3: Jerry Kirkpatrick (vc) 28 D 65/3 Dunboor FC (Cafundéu)
4: Ronald Dennis 22 D 34/2 OGC Nancy
5: Phyllis Reeves 34 D 72/2 América (Cafundéu)

12: Theresa Riley 24 D 4/0 North Fork FC
15: Sul Nam-gin 23 D 0/0 Dover City
16: Adam Mitchell 25 D 18/0 Viktoria Baden
21: Chloe Morris 21 D 0/0 OGC Nancy

Barton came on strong in relief of an uneven Tomas Martinez in WC 52 and played herself into a starting fullback post. Kirkpatrick and Dennis will hold the middle, and Reeves returns for a swan song appearance with the national team. The other four are fighting to be noticed; none is expected to take an absent Matt Chauvin's place quite yet.

Midfielders

6: Marc Ducharme 25 M 60/11 Bloomfield National
7: Neil Butler 22 M 0/0 Belgium FC
8: Tegan Nash 33 M 118/46 Petardos S/A (Cafundéu)
10: Kelli Alder 26 M 81/41 Belgium FC
11: Veronika Hennicke 22 M 55/16 Greenville Rovers

14: Janice Hendricks 25 M 19/3 Four Towers
17: Tad Hollister 22 M 0/0 Baden 98
18: Étienne Voyer 24 M 35/2 Dover City
20: María Sindradóttir 24 M 0/0 Cardiff FC
22: Skarphéðinn Grímsson 22 M 0/0 South Side AC

For the first time since the Bumblebees played in the Baptism of Fire, Orson Cook's name isn't on the roster of the senior team. Strictly temporary, mind you. That helped make room for others to get a trial run. Ducharme will be a fixture in central midfield with Voyer and Hendricks as partners. Nash is the star playmaker in forward midfield, but expect her to rotate to any midfield slot for the trial of different mixtures. Hennicke will swing between winger and playmaker, Butler will be solely on the wing, Alder will play all three forward slots but not playmaker, and Hollister, Maria, and Skarphéðinn will all be examined for fit in a couple of slots.

"Forwards"

9: Debra Formicola 32 F 0/0 Viktoria Baden
19: Bethany Martin 20 F 4/2 Four Towers
23: Glen Svoboda 14 F 0/0 Dover City

All three nominal forwards bring extra media attention to the squad--the mother of two, the beauty queen, and the gifted son of a legendary father. Each is being judged on their ability to adapt to the Bumblebee trademark 4-6-0.

First Match Lineup (Meddicia): Little - Barton, Kirkpatrick, Dennis, Reeves - Nash, Ducharme - Butler, Hennicke, Alder - Formicola.
Second Match Lineup (Gbeckastania): Hanna - Riley, Kirkpatrick, Morris, Sul - Hendricks, Ducharme - Hollister, Nash, Maria - Martin.
Third Match Lineup (ASMV): Little - Barton, Dennis, Reeves, Mitchell - Voyer, Hendricks - Alder, Hennicke, Skarphéðinn - Svoboda.
Fourth Match Lineup (Dorian and Sonya): Hanna - Barton, Reeves, Riley, Morris - Hendricks, Maria - Alder, Nash, Hennicke - Formicola.
Later lineups TBA. Above subject to modification in RP.

Team: ‘Bears Armed (Mainland)’, alias "The Bear-Belles"...

Please note that nowadays this team once again represents both portions of ‘Bears Armed’ once again, the ‘Mainland’ and the ‘Northlands’, having re-absorbed the ‘NorthBears’ after five ‘World Cup’ cycles (and twenty years) during which each of those sections had its own separate “national” team instead. However as a substantial majority of this (“unified”) team’s members and support came from the former ‘Bears Armed (Mainland)’ squad this team can and does rightfully claim to be the successors of that earlier incarnation of the ‘Bear-Belles’....

Yes, this is still an all-female team. As I’ve explained before, this is because the main ball-game that's traditionally been played in Bears Armed is actually a form of Rugby, but [for several reasons] the professional league for that sport is all-male and so some of the female players decided that switching to Soccer instead — and trying to establish a professional league for that — might be a viable alternative: That professional league was founded shortly after WC44, and so has now been in operation for a bit over thirty years.

As far as BA is concerned (at least for football), this tournament is taking place in 2044AD.

National football organisation: ‘Bears Armed Association for Soccer’ (= ‘BAAS’).
(Chairbear: Harroya ‘of the Rovers’ o Redwood [Chairbear of Merlchester Rovers S.C.; previously Captain of the Bear-Belles for some years…]]
National anthem: ‘Peace’.

Staff

Manager & Chief Coach: Marra SunDaughter (female Ursine, a member of the ‘Sun Clan’; played in BoF31 & WC44, as the usual starter at ‘Left Forward’ and the team’s Captain, scoring a good proportion of the Belles’ goals’, and was also captain of her home team the 'Sun Valley Smashers’, but subsequently had to retire from active play due to a crippling injury to her right leg; involved in coaching her home team since then, and ‘Deputy Chief Coach for the national team during WC45; became Chief Coach for WC46, retaining that job when the ‘Bear-Belles’ became the “national” team of the ‘Mainland’ alone from WC47 onwards and became Manager as well after WC49; Soccer experience =10 years as a player, now in her 32nd year as a full-time coach; age = 62, left-pawed, fur = golden-brown, good eyesight even by human [rather than Ursine] standards.)
Deputy Manager: Errmintrra o RedSun _ Clan = Red Sun [Free Sept]; played as Striker or Winger [usual position = Right Forward] for ‘NorthPort Navigators’ for 26 years; she actually made her ‘international’ debut as a reserve in the “undivided” ‘Bears Armed’ team for the ‘WC46’ cycle, as its first ever recruit from within the Northlands League’, and remained with them after that for both ‘Oxen Cup11’ & ‘WC47’ then became Captain of the ’NorthBears’ instead; doubled as that team’s ‘Attacking Coach’ for the ‘Cup of Harmony’ in the WC51 cycle, and retired from playing to take up this job shortly after the decision to re-merge the two teams had been taken; age = 45, right-pawed, fur = light reddish-brown, above-average eyesight;.

Doctor: Mitzi von und zu Steiffen (female Ursine, from Clan Kettar-Surra; age = 44, left-pawed, fur = light brown.)

Physio: Gerrthra o Barrdenn (female Ursine, from Clan GreenWoods; age = 43, left-pawed, fur = dark brown.)

Routemaster: Lieutenant-Colonel Harron o Harrha (male Ursine, from Clan BerryGlades and the Confederal Army’s General Staff Corps; age = 41, left-pawed, fur = dark-medium brown & cut quite short: just appointed to the job, which involves handling all of the squad’s travelling arrangements.)

Security Chief: Urrthra MoonShadow (female Ursine, Silver-of-Night Clan; she is a ‘shabear’...), who doubles as the team’s ‘One Plus Seven’ chaplain.

“Mascot”: ‘The Wise Grorrfinn (male ‘TrueBear’; age = undisclosed [but considering some of his appearances in old stories apparently somewhere over 1’500, at least...], ambidextrous, fur = medium-brown).

Roster

(#1) Elga Thuleann _ Clan = Thuleann; home team = AmmFarhr Adventuresses, category & usual position = Goalkeeper, experience = 27 years; age = 39, left-pawed, fur = ‘white’ (as she’s from a ‘Polar’ stock, which also means that she’s rather large even by Ursine standards...)[i]. [i](She was a member of the ‘Northbears’.)
(#15) Leerrau EastWalker _ Clan = WildWoods; home team = Victories of Vichr, category & usual position = Goalkeeper, experience = 19 years; age = 35, Harr’aynau humanoid, left-footed, hair = ginger; relies on speed & leaping ability, rather than on size & ‘power’. (She made her ‘international’ debut in ‘Eternal Flame 3’.)
(#27) Urrathanna o BerryGlades _ Clan = BerryGlades; home team = Barrdenn Barbariennes, category & usual position = goalkeeper, experience = 10 years; age = 23, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown; a promising youngster, maybe still with some growing to do (at a height of 6’3”) but with a knack for getting to shots that looked as though they’d be out of her reach. (Oxen Cup 13 was her international debut.)

(#2) Beorra Marra o Barrdenn _ Clan = GreenWoods; current team = ‘Lemanskigrad United’ (Albundania) (joined a ‘Junior League’ side, the ‘Barrdenn Bruinettes’, at the age of 13; transferred to the main team fourtteen years ago, but wasn’t yet a regular member of its ‘starting’ roster when her transfer abroad occurred two years after that…), category = Defender, normal position = Right Back (but could also play well as a ‘Centre-Back’, or as a ‘Defensive Centre’…); age = 31, height = 7’2”, fur = dark-medium brown, left-pawed; (She made her ‘international debut’ as one of the newcomers included in the squad that (although I never got around to listing its members) the Belles sent to participate in [i]‘Eternal Flame 3’…)[/i]. She was named after a clan-mate & distant cousin, the ‘Beorra o Barrdenn’ who not only had a distinguished career with the Barbariennes but served as Centre Forward in the original line-up of the ‘Bear-Belles’ too. Fast on her feet, and now almost as big & strong as ‘The Locomotive’ was at her peak... but she’s not quite as impulsive as her namesake was.
(#3) Urrsirha _ Clan = Chargh’ghrarr; home team = Merlchester Rovers, category = Defender, usual position = Right Back, experience = 16 years; age = 30, left-pawed, fur = medium brown ; ‘CaveBear’ ancestry, so BIG… (WWC12 was her ‘international’ debut.)
(#15) Sarra o Urrseorn _ Clan = Urrset; home team = NorthGate Nomads, category = Defender, usual position = Right Back, experience = 27 years; age = 42, left-pawed, fur = brown with a reddish tinge; twin sister of #16, with whom she has a strong rapport that increases their effectiveness on the pitch. (She was a member of the ‘Northbears’.)
(#16) Marra o Urrseorn _ Clan = Urrset; home team = NorthGate Nomads, category = Defender, usual position = Left Back, experience = 27 years; age = 42, right-pawed, fur = brown with a reddish tinge; twin sister of #15, with whom she has a strong rapport that increases their effectiveness on the pitch. (She was a member of the ‘Northbears’.)

(#4) Urra ‘Honey’ SunBlesséd _ Clan = Sun, home team = ‘Sun Valley Smashers’, category = Midfielder/Defender, usual position = Defensive Centre, Soccer experience = 39 years, and she has been in the national team since BoF31; age = 56 (but still seems ‘young’, physically as well as mentally…), right-pawed, fur = ‘honey-brown’, very good eyesight even by human (rather than Ursine) standards. She is a very accurate kicker, and therefore one of the usual first choices for taking free kicks & penalties. Her nickname comes from her fur-colour, and her very sweet nature: Originally it was also because (as we must admit…) she was rather “thick”, but then she ‘grew-up’ mentally during WWC12 & the qualifiers for WC50 so that now she has a verrry good mind indeed… She acted as manager for the [combined] ‘Bears Armed’ U21 team that entered — and were runners-up in — DBC13, and also the team that reached the quarter-finals in DBC14.
(#5) Sunnarra o Redwood _ Clan = Redwood, home team = 'Heroes' Park Harlequins, category = Defender/Midfielder, usual position = Centre Back/Defensive Centre/Centre Half, 25 years experience of Soccer; age = 37, right-pawed, fur = light brown; quite fast; has a degree in Military Science. (She made her ‘international’ debut in Oxen Cup 11, but wasn’t then selected for a World Cup squad until WC48...)
(#30) Erra o MiddleMarch _ Clan = March; home team = WildFair Warrriors, category = Defender/Midfielder, usual position = Centre Back/Defensive Centre/Centre Half, experience = 13 years; age = 29, right-pawed, fur = dark-medium brown (& a bit longer than average, although probably not quite what most people would call “long” rather than “average”…); not as much of a tactician as either of the team’s other two ‘Defensive Centres’, but skilled at her job and apparently tireless… (Oxen Cup 13 was her international debut.)

(#6) Urrthra ‘White Lightning’ Lightning _ Clan = Gunnar, home team = Newton Arsenal, category = Midfielder, usual position = Midfield Left, experience = 9 years; age = 22, left-pawed, fur = verrry light brown; nimble & decidedly fast on her feet, she has good eyesight even by Human standards. (DBC 14 was her international debut.)
(#7) Renatha Virra’s-daughter _ Vokksurr (i.e. anthropomorphic Fox) female; Clan = WildWoods; home team = WildFair Warriors, category = Midfielder, usual position = Midfield Right, experience = 12 years; age = 27, right-pawed, fur = russet, only 5’6” tall; verry good at popping up where & when she’s not expected… (DBC 14 was her international debut.)
(#17) Jiehra WestWalker _ WestWalker Sept, home team = ‘Free City Furies’ & ‘Balan FC’ (Mantwenic), category = Midfielder, usual position = Midfield Right (but flexible about this), experience = 24 years; female Harr’aynau humanoid, age = 39, dark red hair, left-footed; identical twin of #20, with whom she shares a rapport that makes them especially effective. (‘Oxen Cup 12’ was her debut in international football.)
(#20) Irrala WestWalker _ WestWalker Sept, home team = ‘Free City Furies’ & ‘Balan FC’ (Mantwenic), category = Midfielder, usual position = Midfield Left (but flexible about this), experience = 24 years; Harr’aynau humanoid, age = 39, dark red hair, left-footed; identical twin of #17, with whom she shares a rapport that makes them especially effective. (‘Oxen Cup 12’ was her debut in international football.)

(#10) Urrsa SunBlesséd _ Clan = Sun, home team = ‘Sun Valley Smashers’, category = Forward, usual position = Centre Forward or Right Forward, 28 years experience of Soccer; age = 38, right-pawed, fur = ‘wheaten’; very good eyesight, and accuracy at long ranges as well as shorter ones. (‘Oxen Cup 12’ was her debut in international football.) She is the team’s Captain.
(#11) Irrarla SunDaughter _ Clan = Sun; home team = Sun Valley Smashers, category = Forward, usual position = Left Forward, experience = 17 years; age = 34, ambidextrous, fur = golden-brown, very good eyesight (even by Human standards), more agile – and less likely to rely on momentum – than many of her team-mates… She is a niece of Marra SunDaughter, the team’s manager, but won this place on genuine merit. (WWC12 was her ‘international’ debut.)
(#12) Urrthra-Marrana o NewWoods _ Clan = Redwood; home team = Kingly City, category = Forward, usual position = Right Forward or Centre Forward, experience = 17 years; age = 34, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown. (She made her ‘international’ debut in ‘Eternal Flame 3’.)
(#21) Harrla Lightning _ Clan = Gunnar; home team = Newton Arsenal, category = Forward, usual position = Left Forward or Centre Forward, experience = 12 years; age = 24, left-pawed, fur = light brown, eyesight = up to typical ‘human’ standards, slightly on the lightly-built side for an Ursine which may be why she’s decidedly fast on her feet, normally a very accurate shot (even under pressure); identical twin of #23, with whom she shares a mental rapport that helps them to work verrry well together. (DBC14 was her international debut.)
(#23) Karra Lightning _ Clan = Gunnar; home team = Newton Arsenal, category = Forward, usual position = Right Forward or Centre Forward, experience = 12 years; age = 24, right-pawed, fur = light brown, eyesight = up to typical ‘human’ standards, slightly on the lightly-built side for an Ursine which may be why she’s decidedly fast on her feet, normally a very accurate shot (even under pressure); identical twin of #21, with whom she shares a mental rapport that helps them to work verrry well together. (DBC14 was her international debut.)
(#24) Jhargeena Lightning _ Clan = Gunnar, home team = ‘Newton Arsenal’, category = Forward, usual position = Centre Forward or Right Forward, 8 years experience of Soccer; age = 22, right-pawed, fur = light brown, good eyesight even by Human standards, fast on her feet; identical twin of #26, with whom she shares a rapport that makes them especially effective when playing together. (DBC 14 was her international debut.)
(#31) Beorra-Marra-Charra o Redwood _ Clan = Redwood, home team = Merlchester Rovers, category = Forward, usual position = Centre Forward, 10 years experience of Soccer; age = 23, ambidextrous, fur = medium brown with hints of dark red. (DBC 14 was her international debut.)
(#32) Errsae Moonlight o Herrchaum _ Clan = Herchaum, home team = Heroes’ Park Hellions, category = Forward, preferred position = Left Forward, 7 years experience of Soccer; age = 21, left-pawed, fur = silvery when in moonlight but otherwise light brown; sometimes seems to have some sort of ‘second sight’ about what’s going to happen in the next few seconds…. (DBC 14 was her international debut.)

(#13) Jerranaya SunChild _ Clan = Sun, home team = 'Sun Valley Smashers', category = Forward or Winger, usual position = Right Winger, 24 years experience of Soccer; age = 35, right-pawed, fur = golden-brown, has very good eyesight, big and very fast, "a natural talent". (‘Oxen Cup 12’ was her debut in international football.)
(#14) Karramrassar Ulgarra _ Clan = Ostbora; home team = OstPort United, category = Winger, usual position = Left Winger, experience = 14 years; age = 27, left-pawed, fur = medium-brown with blonde highlights; rapidly making a name for herself in the League, she rarely scores goals but is rather good at setting them up for her team-mates. (Oxen Cup 13 was her international debut.)
(#25) Ferrae Mirrimng’s-daughter _ Clan = Verravokkurr [Free Sept]; home team = Heroes’ Park Harlesquins, category = Winger, usual position = Right Winger, experience = 18 years; age = 33, [i]Verrvokksurr (i.e. human-sized anthropomorphic Fox), right-pawed, fur = ginger. [i](WWC12 was her ‘international’ debut.)
(#26) Darronthna Lightning _ Clan = Gunnar, home team = ‘Newton Arsenal’,, category = (Attacking) Midfielder/Winger (preferably deployed on the right), usual position = Right Winger, experience = 8 years; age = 22, right-pawed, fur = light brown, good eyesight even by Human standards, fast on her feet; identical twin of #24, with whom she shares a rapport that makes them especially effective when playing together.

Usual starters = #1-4, 6-7, 10-14.

Style: Offensive, modifier = +4 ("A good offence is the best defence"...).
Their usual formation will include a front row of at least 5 (normally as 3 strikers & 2 wingers), with 2 midfielders, 2 backs, and either a ‘Defensive Centre’ (whose starting position would be at the midpoint of an imaginary cross drawn between those other four non-forwards’ positions) or a third midfielder depending on the Manager’s decision before each match.

Opponents may _

Choose my goalscorers: Y (but the Forwards, and then the Wingers, are likeliest to fill this role...)
Godmod Scoring Events: Y
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:

RP injuries to my players: Y (but inflicting anything too serious on an Ursine would probably take behaviour that should get your player responsible a red card).
Godmod injuries to my players: Y (only if it's funny.... and only one per game, if that...
RP injuries to my players / Godmod injuries to my players / Hand out Yellow cards to my players / Hand out Red cards to my players: Y to all, at least to start with, but remember what I've written here and keep it in limits accordingly... Any serious offences by my players would probably result in injuries to your players, and causing any serious injuries to my players would probably require such obviously-deliberate attacks that your players would get yellow or even red cards as a result too. Don’t kill anybody, or inflict injuries that would be serious enough to end careers, without checking with me & getting my approval (which is unlikely to be granted…) first.

Godmod Other Events: Y, I suppose, at least as long as you do so in an AMUSING way... but please remember that Ursines are fully sapient beings, as much as Humans are, not instinct-driven animals. Oh, and of course female Ursines are not sexually interested in Humans (of either sex), and it's very unlikely that female Harr'ayanau would be either. Please don't have them run amok or outright revert to animality, without checking by TG first, don't make assumptions about their views on politics or religion, and don't do anything that would make more than one of them incapable of playing in their next game...

______________________________________________________

Kit: This incarnation of the team wears the second set of designs that ‘ediraf’ produced for us, i.e. an identical kit to the one that they wore (representing the ‘Mainland’ alone) for WC51 but with the ‘Association’ badges having reverted from ‘BAMAS’ ones back to the original ‘BAAS’ style.See "here" for details.
Bears Armed has traditionally used base-8 arithmetic, for several reasons, and this has affected the set of numbers used for this team’s players: Also, the number “22” has deliberately been left unassigned out of respect for its first [& only] wearer who died a heroine’s death during the year immediately following WC444…

NOTES

Ursines may tend to be a bit less agile & slower to accelerate than humans on average, but this team's members were carefully selected so the gap between them & their opponents in this respect should be narrower than some people might expect. They do tend to have slightly poorer eyesight than humans, on the whole (although the members of both Clan Gunnar and the Sun Clan are generally an exception to this rule, and the eyesight of the latter group is actually often at better-than-human levels instead), so long-distance passes & shots at goal will tend to be rarer behaviour for them than they are for human teams... but their typical size & strength mean that when they're running with the ball it will probably take a very brave human -- as well as a very skilled one -- to tackle them successfully, which should balance that factor pretty well. They don’t jump very well, but then they’re generally rather taller than most Human players to start with.
They're physically robust, of course, which means that they're much less likely than humans to suffer injuries in falls or collisions. The females of this species are more even-tempered than the males, and the team's members will try to stay on their best behaviour not only in order to do well in this contest but also to impress upon the watching humans that Ursines aren't just "dumb beasts". They will not 'dive', or feign injury in other ways, because suggesting that they could be harmed so easily goes strongly against the grain. ‘Northlanders’ are maybe not quite as "civilised" as the 'Mainlanders'… or, at any rate, that’s the traditional stereotype..
Cold weather should pose no problem to them, even if there's snow or ice on the pitch, but tropical heat might prove awkward...

Unless our hosts object, this team's members (including the designated substitutes for the match in question) will perform a [fairly short] ritual that's called the 'harrdiharr' on the pitch just before play begins... This is a traditional war-dance, meant to over-awe opponents, that has come to be a customary prelude for team games as well (similar to the [RL] New Zealanders' 'haka'...). : )
As has now been seen during various tournaments, some of our fans like to take drums — and possibly cow-horns, or other "musical instruments", too — along to the matches...

The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.

THE CAFUNDELENSE WOMEN'S TEAM

Style is +2

Goalkeepers

1- LAURA Ranielli
Team: Acadêmica - Rating: A - Age: 29 years old
Laura is a very trustworthy goalkeeper, and has been one of the main players of Cafundéu's team for a while. She is very competent and determinated, but somewhat suicidal. She works so hard that makes dangerous and risky moves many times. Luckily, she is good enough to hardly make a mistake even in those moves. When on vacation, Laura stays outside of the big cities and travels to the countryside, avoiding the media whenever possible.

12- MARCELLA Campos Mathias
Team: Clube Imperial - Rating: B - Age: 25 years old
Main rival of Laura for the prizes for goalkeepers in the league, Marcella's lack of experience led to she going to the bench in the National Team. But no one can deny she has a lot of talent, and sometimes can even start ahead of Luana in games. Marcella is far from eccentric or risky while playing, and plays safe, sometimes too safe.

22- Helena Genovo CASTRO
Team: São Longuinho - Rating: C - Age: 33 years old
A far more experienced player than the other goalkeepers, Castro is not at the talent level of the other two, but her years of experience put her as a good option in case a substitute is needed. As she know she probably won't play, she acts more outside the pitch, acting as a mentor for the younger players and keeping the team united with her jokes and games, something she loves to do.

Full-backs/Wingers - Right

2- BÁRBARA Yukine Assis
Team: Metropolitano - Rating: B - Age: 29 years old
One of the few exceptions, Bárbara wasn't a starter in the Summer Olympics, but a direct substitute. But, in the two years that have passed, Carlinha didn't manage to keep the good level of performance that sent her to the National Team in her club, Juventude, and lost her position to Bárbara. Probably the quickest player of this squad, Bárbara can support well the attack, one of the major reasons why Fernanda Garcia uses wingers instead of full-backs. With good crossing abilities, many chances can come from her. When she is not playing, Bárbara gets involved in many controversies involving betting, and her addicition has let to many critics.

14- Carolina Ferreira "CAROL" NEVES
Team: Clube Imperial - Rating: B - Age: 24 years old
Young talent of Cafundéu, Carol Neves impresses everyone with her fast development, and outstanding skills missed with a childish attitude. She is a great passer, with good vision of the game, surely a raw gem. On the other way, she constantly argues with the referee and other players, and can't stand critics. She will only become a top player when she manages to improve her attitude.

Full-backs/Wingers - Left

6- NATÁLIA Gonçalves Coltti
Team: Carandirú - Rating: A - Age: 23 years old
This intelligent player is the only representative of the Carandirú team, which is not a top one in the women's league of Cafundéu. Only recently she got her talent recognized by the experts, and most are predicting a phenomenal future for her. She is a quiet player, but very good in the tactical aspect of the game and in creating good moves for the team. Also, is a goot set pieces taker. Apart from playing football, Natália also still goes to college, but is still at the beginning of her Medicine course. It isn't certain if she will have to abandon college to play football.

16- AMANDA Jamelli BUENO
Team: Real de Tijhus - Rating: C - Age: 31 years old
Amanda was expecting to become a starter of the National Team after the long-term injury of Renatinha, the Olympic member. But the ascension of Natália as a key member of the Consumerists put Amanda on the bench. She is a fine all-around player, and that's her main flaw: she doesn't have a particular specialty, works well at every aspect of the game, but not at the level of world class players.

Central Defenders

3- ALINE de Carvalho MUNIA
Team: Acadêmica - Rating: B - Age: 35 years old
Oldest player of the squad, is surely the most experienced, devoting nearly her entire career to the National Team. A strong, sometimes violent player, Aline Munia is the defensive fortress of the team, defending Cafundéu from the opponent attackers. She isn't good in the technical abilities, so she hardly goes to the attack, even when the team is desperate to score a goal. Lately, her career has been plagued by injuries, and she is planning her retirement from football. Even being so tough in the game, she is very respectful to the opponents, a fair play example.

4- Beatriz Schmitt "BIA"
Team: Clube Imperial - Rating: A - Age: 28 years old
The leader and captain of the team, although the best player is considered to be Ana Paula. Bia is the most talented defensive player of the team, being able to leave defence in order to attempt offensive moves, and sometimes even dribble opponent attackers in a humiliating manner. Always smiling, Bia is a charismatic leader, but very demanding to her team mates. Her physical condition is at a peak level, so she may play all the games until their ends. She is also very friendly to the media and press, loving to give interviews and commenting about how things go with the squad.

5- GIOVANNA Stábile
Team: Atlético Central - Rating: B - Age: 32 years old
Stábile is the least famous of the three starting defenders, but a solid one. She hardly shine in a game receiving praise, but never does a bad job on the pitch. Tackles well, marks well, sometimes can even adventure herself in the attack, but this usually doesn't work well. Giovanna doesn't care much of her status in the team, she is glad to be just a starter, and has the confidence of the coach, which is more important.

13- DÉBORA Macedo Kavene
Team: Metropolitano - Rating: C - Age: 27 years old
One of the biggest problems of the current Cafundelense Women's National Team is that there aren't options at the level of the 3 starter central defenders in the reserve. This isn't to be offensive to the other players, just the truth. But Débora, even not being at the top level, is a competent defender, very defensive, who can fill a gap in the defence without any problems for the team.

20- Alessandra Fauver Low "ALÊ"
Team: Acadêmica - Rating: C - Age: 25 years old
Paulinha can be the first reserve option in the central defence, but it is Alê the real promising defender in this squad. Recently signed by Acadêmica, Alê is a short player, but impressively good at jumping and with the ball on her feet. Unexperienced, Alê is not ready for a World Cup, but may get some chances as long as she improves. Outside the pitch, loves to go to parties, which can be a problem when she drinks too much.

Defensive Midfielders

8- KELLY PAREDES Higienópolis
Team: Juventude - Rating: B - Age: 31 years old
A controversial decision to include in the National Team, as Kelly Paredes expressed her dislike of the CFFC methods. Excellent passer and one of the best tacklers of the squad, Kelly is a hard working player, the only one that is good enough for Garcia to field a single defensive midfielder in her formation. Her problems with the CFFC are due to the conditions of the women's league in Cafundéu, which receives less media exposure, something the condemns. She is one of the defenders of a merge between the two leagues in the country, and even of a merge between the CFFC and CCFM which, according to her, would be a way for the world to finally notice the Cafundelense female players.

15- REBECCA Volwmir Juremar
Team: São Longuinho - Rating: B - Age: 25 years old
Born in a foreign country, Rebecca has been living in Cafundéu since young age, and now is a full Cafundelense citizen. Having difficulties to create relationships with other people, her parents put her in a sports club where she would have contact with teachers, doctors and friends. And this not only helped her in personal life, but also in the professional one, as she grew up to become a good midfielder, captain of her team, and now a member of the National Team. Raised in a poor family, her life story became a popular propaganda tool to promote sports as a way of personal development.

18- FABIANA Rabelo
Team: América Jutense - Rating: C - Age: 26 years old
A player who was supposed to be a star of the Cafundelense team by now, but has failed to meet the expectations. A member of the squad since twenty years of age, has played for Clube Imperial but, after bad performances, returned to her first team. Even not being the player people expected her to be, she is still good enough to play for the National Team, although just as an option.

Offensive Midfielders

7- FERNANDA Silveira Caldas
Team: Acadêmica - Rating: A - Age: 30 years old
She divides the opinions of who is the best player of this team, even though most end preferring her friend and NT team mate. Fernanda is the more creative and technical player of the offensive duo. She is the dribbling genius of the squad, who has tons of fans duo to her beautiful moves. Her finishing isn't as good as her dribbling, but her individual players, when she dribbles many players in a row, can easily end with goals. Sometimes her opponents consider her dribbles as a way to humilliate them, but she does that only to have fun. Outside the pitch she frequently appears on tv shows to show her artistic talent with the ball.

11- ANA PAULA Freitas Gamma
Team: Clube Imperial - Rating: A - Age: 26 years old
The most complete player of the team, this girl makes a perfect duo with Fernanda in the National Team. She is a good dribbler too, not at the level of Fernanda, but her other qualities make people consider her a better player. She is very good at shooting, in any ranges, and manages to make offensive moves with ease. Another curious talent of Ana Paula is to score olympic goals. Her corner kicks aren't dangerous because of the crossing, but because they are aimed directly to the goal! She also impresses many people with her beauty, earning a lot of money by appearing in advertisements, but rejecting many proposals that use only her beauty, and not her fame as a footballer.

17- ISABELA Mariani
Team: Real de Tijhus - Rating: C - Age: 28 years old
A reserve in the Olympic squad who will continue being just a reserve in this team. Isabela is a good player, especially with her long ranged shots that can surprise even the most elastic of the goalkeepers, but there is no way she can compete with Fernanda and Ana Paula for a starting position. Now she will have to compete even against Sabrina to be the first choice substitute.

21- Maria SABRINA Álamo
Team: Clube Imperial - Rating: B - Age: 23 years old
Close friend of Ana Paula inside and outside the playing field, Sabrina has a humorous character, every getting herself into comical situations, and loving to make fun of others and of herself. As a football player, Sabrina is good in making the link between the defensive and the offensive midfield, and works well in holding the ball for a long time, being the best option for a defensive approach of the game.

Forwards

9- Daniela Britto Lopes "DANI"
Team: Clube Imperial - Rating: A - Age: 28 years old
The offensive midfielders may be the most praised players in the squad, but it's Dani the one who gives the Consumerists the most important thing in a football game: the goals. Taller than most players, Dani is good at heading, and her good positioning also gives her the condition to be always with good scoring chances. Her dribbling is only average, many other attackers are better, but her good positioning and finishing ability make the difference. The target woman inside the area, most of the offensive moves of Cafundéu will end with a Dani shot.

10- VANESSA Dourado Nascimento
Team: Juventude - Rating: A - Age: 28 years old
A better dribbler than Dani, Vanessa is the attacker who manages to take the ball deep in the midfield and use her speed to reach the attack through an individual play... and then pass the ball to Dani. Vanessa scores far less goals, but is very important too. But she has a major flaw: her form is very inconsistent. One day she plays very well, the other day she makes plenty of mistakes... but even with this problem she is a trusted player of the squad. Ah, there is another flaw: Vanessa gets angry with ease, and can collect some cards during the competition.

19- ANA CLARA Vergara
Team: Acadêmica - Rating: B - Age: 22 years old
The true future star of this team, Ana Clara is the one who everyone wants to see playing in this Women's World Cup, just to see if all the hype around her is fair or not. Ana Clara is supposed to be a complete striker, but has played only a single full season so far. Due to her popularity in the media, she is a very loved person by the fans, and there is a huge pressure over her. When Vanessa underperforms, it is likely that Ana Clara will receive a chance. A curiosity about her is her strange fashion taste, which is... well, strange.

23- JÚLIA Panete PEREIRA
Team: Metropolitano - Rating: C - Age: 33 years old
The "Panther", as she was usually called during her peak, had better days in her career, but is still a capable player and a good option for this team. Experienced, Júlia Pereira knows the shortcuts of the field, and when the game seems too tough, she may feature, as in such a game Ana Clara would underperform. But Júlia's physical condition is poor right now, so she won't be able to play for many minutes.

Staff

Coach - Fernanda Garcia
Age: 58 years old
She is a former player of the Cafundelense Women's National Team, during its best ages, and participated in the title campaign of WWC11. So, she has the experience and knowledge of the competition necessary to lead this team. She also has experience inside both the CFFC and CCFM, helping youth projects and even being part of director councils of important Cafundelense teams. As a coach, she is offensive, but prefers to adapt her style to the players available for use, and not the opposite as happens with some coaches in the world.

Assistant - Jacqueline Ruiz
Age: 44 years old
Jacqueline is the one who will take care of the physical training of the players, but she also has knowledge of tactics and rules, enough to give a lot of help to Fernanda. But she'll only support her boss.

The Tarrentian team bus arrived at their hotel in Concord Heights with a sigh of the vehicle's brakes.

The General Manager of the National Team, Gregori Burindi wanted this tournament to be different for his squad. Not only a warm-up to the 53rd World Cup, but a chance to finally do well in an international tournament. That was the point of his argument to the Tarrentum Sports Committee for allocating the funds to bring his team early to Cassadaigua.

The nation was not one of Burindi's favorites. He was a man from the army. A man from the old days when Tarrentian men and Tarrentian women knew their places in society and in athletics. But now when he looks at the World Sports page he sees men and women competing together everywhere - Gridiron, Tennis, Bicycling, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Baseball and yes, even his beloved Football. But not in Tarrentum. While the rest of the country had gone "soft", Burindi's grip on the TPFL meant that his league was still "strong." There were but two locker rooms at every TPFL stadium. No need for women's rooms and men's - just Home and Away.

So it was that when Burindi came to the TSC to argue the need for Tarrentum to be represented in Cassadaigua that they were taken aback. But Burindi had argued his case eloquently. "Put our men against the rest of the world's women and we'll prove ourselves up to the challenge." No promises of winning, no threats to the committee members families - just the simple point that the Falcons, the Orange and Blue, could do well in a football tournament.

Burindi smiled to himself remembering the moment as his operational manager left the bus to make sure the accomodations were in order. Burindi's smile was lost when he turned around to look at his men and saw...her. Not his Head Coach - whom he still did have an issue with - but his young backup Striker, Noel Gennesse. A frown creased his face as he went back to looking out the window. Only then did he notice the reporters.

A lot of reporters. He swore to himself. Not one of them was a man. No one whom he could relate to. And therein was his other motivation. He looked down at his newspaper, it was about the organization MEN located here in Cassadaigua and their fight for equal rights. Immasculating was the word that first came to mind when Burindi first started reading the article but he had wanted to know more than his superficial familiarity with the issue.

The world was upside down. That was Burindi's conclusion. Sure, men had some occupational attainment here - but not of equality. That was his personal mission for being here. Upliftment. It was why he pressed the TSC hard to attend. It was why he had insisted on following the letter of Cassadaigua's Official Notice of Participation, not the spirit. The team's participating were to have women on their team - the Notice of Participation never mentioned an exact number of female players - so he had brought the minimum, one.

And she was damn lucky to be here in the first place. Burindi thought to himself. His train of thought was interrupted by his op manager coming back onto the bus.

"Everything is set, sir." the little man said and quickly scurried back down the bus steps and into the hotel.

Burindi gathered his leather bag, his designer sun glasses and his 5 jasite bottle of water. The rest of the player knew what that meant and began to gather up their areas. Burindi would speak with the media - they were to make themselves unknown and go right to the operational manager for their room assignments. Even that thought made Burindi bristle - an extra room for one player - an extra cost. He stiffened himself and went outside to speak with the reporters.

...

Burindi was doing very well in his interviews until some woman noticed his little curveball. He heard it from behind him as he had been waiting for it for 20 minutes. Burindi never knew it took so long to get a team off one bus. But that was besides the point.

"Only one?"

That was all the rest of the reporters noted before the question began raining down on his head. Naggingly, Burindi thought to himself. That's why I never married.

"Why did you only come with one woman." A very homely looking reporter asked him.

"I came with what the Notice of Participation said I should, a co-ed team."

"But you only have woman with the team."

"Correction, our coach is also female." Burindi said with a slight smirk. He knew it would irritate the Dagan media, but he still smirked. It brought the desired effect.

"So what does that action say about Tarrentum's view of our culture?" another reported asked him.

Burindi smiled confidently. "It says that Tarrentum's football team," he made sure to stress that fact, "believes that our men can compete on the same level as the Dagan females and that," he cleared his throat "your men should experience the same kind of freedoms and equality that you yourselves experience. Where are the co-ed national teams of Cassadaigua? Where is the equality that you hope to foster around the world for females - here in Cassadaigua?"

There was a pause and Burindi took it.

"We will be here in Concord Heights practicing until the start of the Queen's Cup - I'm sure that you can ask me all of the questions during that time and throughout the tournament. But right now I am heading off to bed as it has been a long flight and I really must get some sleep."

The cacophony of questions and requests for side interviews came at Burindi as he walked through the hotel doors. Thankfully, some female security guards were there to control the reporters. He looked off to the side and saw two more women with smart business suits on. Burindi smiled to himself. The women were pressed upon him by the TSC and the Tarrentian government. He had spoken with the State Department and they had impressed it upon Burindi that his actions - of course he had told them the entirety of his reasons - would led to some confrontations. They had sent along two female bodyguards to watch over the manager. The women followed him into the elevator and waited in the hall as he got to his room.

...

Burindi sighed as he put his pen down after going over paperwork later that night. He knew there would be long days between now and the end of the tournament. But he had confidence his men could succeed. He also knew, as he rubbed his eyes and slid into bed, that his cellphone would be full of messages tomorrow morning when he turned it back on.

Burindi smiled as he turned off the light.

Jeruselem Government News

Football Princesses and Queens Pick'n'Mix

Jeruselem will be playing in Cassadaigua, home of the former World Cup champs, for the Queen's cup. Our own Princess Shay will be taking our team of Nuns to play against the best girly teams (and some men) there. Also attending is the Queen of Dorian and Sonya, so this cup will not be lacking royalty. It's not normal for a Jeruselemite team to have an assistant coach for such a smallish cup but Sharnee Bellpepper (aka "Peppers") is doing some work experience towards her coaching certificate here.

Most of the teams playing will be all-female with a lot of teams sending unseen female teams but most have run into our all-Nun team somewhere along the way. The Queen's cup does not lack hard hitting girl teams with the hosts Cassadaigua not being strangers to being winners. Valanora, Cafundeu, Sarzonia, Delaclava, Bears Armed, The Babbage Islands, Secristan, Dorian and Sonya and CoH winners Andossa se Mitrin Vega are big names here.

Jeruselem are put in group Rutland, with Swartaz, Sarzonia and Bears Armed for company. Cathais and Greater Tyrol are the other teams in this group.

Jeruselem coach Princess Shay (not to be confused with Sister Shay on the team) said
"There's plenty of great teams here. The girls here are excited to play against such talent."

TYROLIA (pa). ~ The Queen's Cup is Cassaidaigua is underway, and it is the first international sporting event in which a Tyrolean team shall participate. One would think our folk's enthusiasm for football ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, which will see a Tyrolean team sported for the first time - it is now not only the hard-working men of our nation that wish to show the country proud, it is also the women who love to play the game in their free time --- we expect this might have a positive effect on the footballing youth, both male and female. If the campaign is successful, it is deemed possible that a women's league could be installed. All games of the Tomboy Eagles [OOC. :lol2: ] will be broadcast on GT-Sports-1.

Concerns have been raised about the squad offered being too inexperienced, and quite simply not physically fit enough for the task ahead, but the leadership has stressed that this is an unfounded rumour, as football has always been a sport enjoyed by men and women alike throughout the country, it was simply that organised women's football was a bit of a taboo for a while; coming through a struggling economy in the first months and years after our glorious nation's foundation, it would have been a bad example to set to the youth.

It is with pride that we, the Standard Bearer. can be the first to present the official roster and attire for this upcoming tournament, which will be starting tomorrow. It is to be noted that the factory positions that these women held are adequately re-staffed both with fresh applicants from the youth, and applicants from our recent resocialisation system for the homeless, to be adequately schooled. Married women with children were not considered by the KGTFV's [OOC: Kaiserlicher Groß Tiroler Fußball Verband] scouts, as at home educating their children is their primary duty, the same goes for those women in social jobs; nonetheless it was considered more expedient to send an all-female squad so as to not disturb the men's preparation for the upcoming World Cup campaign.

Here is the squad, their career is listed as well. Out of respect for these young ladies, we have agreed not to list their weight on their wish, though we don't understand. They are all exemplary women of grandeur, as much as some of them could have featured on any Rubens painting.

Since Daiden was delayed also on her last order, which was to be our team - at least thus far - the officials of the KGTFV have created their own attire for the football team --- the scheme for the women's team is the same as will be for the men's team; only different in tailoring and sizes. The leadership evidently thinks that our national flag ensign look stunning on both sexes.

"This group is one hell of an interesting draw", says coach

Rutland, Cassadaigua. (ap) ~ Our team's preparation are going well, head coach Jan-Peter Wurm has succeeded in making the girls aching for their first game in the round robin - in which they shall face no lesser than World-No.-7 ranked side Sarzonia, whose fame precedes them. The further teams in our group, which will play in Rutland, are Jeruselem (25), Bears Armed (34), Swartaz (44), and Cathais (to our information, unranked). So our glorious ladies are playing their first ever teams against some of the World Greats, hoping to pull of some surprise upsets.

"This group is one hell of an interesting draw", says coach Wurm. "It could have been more difficult, we could have been caught up in a full stadium with the hosts and Delaclava, so in a way we're not hopeless - but it's not going to be easy to progress beyond the group stage. We don't know where we stand, but we will know in a couple of days, when we've first met with an opponent we consider within our size shoe. But first comes Sarzonia."

Success or failure against Sarzonia will depend on the ability of our defense to take out their strong midfield, especially Laura Grover, who is such an outstanding offensive midfield player that she is a member of their Men's Squad, with a good ability to score, whether it is from inside the box or from a distance shot. It will be difficult to judge the form of their offense, Raven and Butler appear to not have played for a while, but the mere fact that these legends of Sarzonian football think they're still up for the challenge should show our defensive girls that this is no tea pot party.

We're the great outsiders going into tomorrow's match, and the team that no one knows. Perhaps precisely that is our best chance - it would be foolish to think that Sarzonia will not take the game seriously, but perhaps their players will be a little too arrogant with the ball. Either way, all the best to our girls, make us proud. It won't matter if you lose against that team - but if you do, make sure you do it with dignity.

PS: That's the girl everyone is talking about - Grete Persson, the stunning 17-year old blonde striker who will be starting tomorrow. If she plays the game as good as she looks, then we've basically won already. It's to be doubted how many goals she will actually score in the defensive formation we have, but let's be honest - who cares, really?

Image
Grete Persson - dream of all Tyrolean men and set out to become a star of the team for
this Queen's Cup at a publicity shot.

Tarrentum's Arrival

Concord Heights Queen's Cup Practice Pitch

Burindi stood on the sidelines watching his men go through their practice. They had gotten the short end of the Group Draw. Placed in the same group as the hosts, Cassadaiuga, and perennial super-nations Delaclava and Osarius. It was Osarius that worried him the most. Osarius was packed with stars. Burindi was fearful that his team would have a major misstep in their first leg of the tournament.

[OOC: Using Osarius' "anything goes" RP permissions]
That's why he had secured a bucket, literally a bucket, of the finest chocolate and sent it to the Osarian starting CM - Hope Peranio. Burinidi had some good informants out and about - he knew that Peranio couldn't resist chocolate. It was her one fault. While addicted to chocolate, she was also very allergic to the candy. Burindi knew she would be out for the game. He also knew the purchase couldn't be traced back to him.

He frowned slightly, he knew that it wasn't the best way to compete. Yet something told him, reminded him, that it was for a better cause. He knew that no matter the methods, MEN was the horse he would ride to the end. Whether they wanted him or not didn't concern the old Army veteran. What mattered was, to Burindi, that MEN had support outside Cassadaigua and that they would know it by his actions - if no one elses.

...

The trainers had rushed out to the field. And Burindi stood dumbfounded. Rubinu Warti, the 39 year old Striker from Krozuy, was down and Burindi's plans began to unravel.

"Delphine!" he yelled out to get his coach's attention.

She walked up to him and stood at attention before Burindi.

"How bad is it?" he asked.

"Warti when down hard. A good tackle by Julian, just hard. We'll have to put Noel-"

"No." he replied quickly.

"No what?" Delphine said, her voice rising just a little.

"We'll move Nastromani up and put Callami at the left mid spot." Burindi looked around as if to end the conversation and get an assessment from the trainers.

"No." he heard his coach reply.

"No what?" Burindi looked her straight in the eyes.

"Stefano needs to stay in the middle becuase he is a better defensive ballplayer. Noel has to come on as the Striker."

"She will not play!"

"I am the coach!" Burindi could see blood rushing into her face.

"I don't care who you are. That girl is not playing on this team. There has never been a female on the pitch for Tarrentum and there will never be a female on the pitch with my men! This discussion stops here Delphine!" Burindi noticed a silence as some of his team was looking at both him and his coach. "Go back to practicing you lazy bastards!" Burindi yelled out to his players.

Delphine was still standing there in front of him. "You listen here. You want to win? Put the best out there, Noel knows our strategies and formations. She is the best chance of doing well in tomorrow's game."

"Our best chance would be for a coach who listened to her manager." Burindi replied through gritted teeth.

"Ahh, blow it out your ass Gregori. You're making your point - now let me strategize with my team." Delphine spun on her heels and walked away angrily.

Burindi cursed the Dagan pitch then spun around to walk out to one of the local bars. He ran into one of the reporters from last night.

"Anything wrong Manager Burindi?" she asked

"What's wrong is that I just lost a star player."

"Who are you going to bring in for their replacement?" the reporter pressed.

"We'll be moving up Stefano Nastromani..." Burindi started.

On the eve of Osarius' opening match in the Queen's Cup - against Tarrentum - Elissa Barca-Carthy got a call. It wasnt the kind of call any coach likes to get, especially not when it concerns one of their most influential players.

"Uh... coach?" It was Cassandra Palacios.
"Cassandra..." Elissa paused. Cassandra winced, coach rarely used her full name. She was in trouble already. "Why are you calling me so late when we have an important match tomorrow?" Elissa Barca-Carthy didn't suffer fools. Her tone was chilly.
"Well, its...um..." As strange as it might seem to have a twenty-eight year old woman nervous on the phone to another woman, it wasnt entirely uncommon. Elissa Barca-Carthy had been like a surrogate mother to many of the female stars of Osarian football. Cassandra Palacios was quiet by nature, so it followed that she would be anything but comfortable with having to report bad news to 'mom'.
"Cassandra..." Elissa's tone implied impatience. It was also one of her 'rules' that she shouldn't need to repeat herself.
"Hope is in hospital." Cassandra blurted it out. The next few minutes were a blur, a rush of furious words from her coach, and an almost ashamed series of responses.

About fifteen minutes after the call, Elissa Barca-Carthy had arrived at the hospital, and made her way to Hope Peranio's room. Standing at the foot of her bed, she looked at the chart.

"For god's sakes, Hope!" An exasperated tone now. "Didn't I tell you to stay away from chocolate?"
Hope remained silent. In a similar way to Cassandra, her face just dropped in shame. Twenty-seven years old and still seemingly afraid of 'mom'.
"Why did you let her buy it?!" Her attentions turned back to Cassandra, Hope's clubmate, roommate and close friend. Her philosophy was simple, she trusted her players to be professional, and their teammates and friends to help them with that. Well... it was a nice theory.
"I didnt. It... it was delivered. I didn't know."
"Delivered from where?"
"It didnt say. It just came to the hotel in a bucket, addressed to Hope. By the time I got back to the room, she had already got through half of it."
Hope looked away again. Their coach just sighed.
"Alright. I'll have to make sure this doesn't happen again. Obviously you wont be in any fit state to play tomorrow." She half-glared, half-looked at Hope. "Cassie..." Back to Cassandra; Elissa Barca-Carthy had calmed down, it seemed. "...you'll have to start in Hope's place tomorrow."

She didn't hang around, more important things to worry about, presumably. Last thing she needed was team selection issues on the eve of her first real shot at making some noise in the Osarian football world. Nobody seemed to care about the women's team after all, and no King's League club was willing to "take a chance" on appointing a female coach. Yet.

Her formation and tactics would require some tweaking, but it wasnt a catastrophe. This could still be a success. Or so she kept telling herself as she drove back to the hotel, cursing her luck, and bemoaning the absence of her daughter, who was the perfect replacement for Hope, and entirely dependable... but away captaining the under 21s in Krytenia. For the briefest of moments she considered calling Donovan MacLean or Alain Montblanc. Even Benedict di Corradi crossed her mind. But she quickly pushed these thoughts to the back of her mind. If she wanted to be taken seriously, she would have to do this alone. Besides, if it came down to it, her pride wouldnt allow her to go running to the supposedly superior male coaches.

GOLDDIGGERS HEAD TO CASSADAIGUA

The Secristan Department of Sports approved the sending of a team to The Queen’s Cup, which is the latest attempt by the Cassadagan government to try and convince the world that they are not one of the most corrupt and discriminatory nations on the planet. Tournament organizers probably wanted to make it an all-female tournament, but realized they could allow men to participate as a front to try and show that they are not such a gender-biased nation and to somewhat ease the protests of men’s rights organizations. Despite their love to criticize us, and call us corrupt because of the way we treat our poor citizens, and allow slavery, the living conditions for men in Cassadaigua cannot be much better. They do a good job of covering it up to everyone, but unlike many we see those rankings that the World Assembly puts out for One Big Island, and know that they are often very close to us within those categories that give us a bad reputation. The only reason the SDOS accepted this offer is because it is an opportunity to sell more pay-per-view products and it should be a success in that regard. As for the team, we really don’t know anything about any of these people, but they have made one request. They do not want to be called the Millionaires for the tournament, and instead wish to be called the Golddiggers. Hopefully, they will not embarrass us.
