Inter Nation Cycling Championships: Day 5B, complete

Postby Liventia » Thu Aug 26, 2010 8:32 am

Okay, since I've had a number of voices telling me they're interested in this, I'll go ahead with it.

These are the signups for the inaugural Inter Nation Cycling Championships. There are events in all four Olympic cycling disciplines, those being BMX, mountain, road and track. At each event, points will be scored depending on finishing position (or round eliminated) to contribute to a team event. The team with the lowest cumulative total wins the team event.

Each individual event will present medals. There are three team events: men's, women's and combined; each of these events will also present medals. Therefore there are a number of different ways to judge success in this championships: by medals (continuously finishing top three), or by winning the team events (being consistent).

The Championships will be scorinated using xkoranate 0.3; the exact dates of the event are not confirmed at this time although it is likely to be in the second or third week of September.

This events list is identical to that of the cycling programme in Beijing 2008, plus the four events for women which did not make it onto the Beijing list.

There are a total of 25 sets of medals up for grabs at these Championships (the 18 in Beijing in 2008, four more women’s events, plus three combined events).

It is recommended that you enter a full complement of athletes into each event; failure to do so will mean you earn unnecessary points in an event you fail to enter. The number of athletes per nation able to compete in each event is noted next to each event name.

You should give each entry a rating between 0 (worst) and 1 (best); the average of all your ratings must be 0.5 or less. If the rating for an entry is not stated, it will be treated as 0.5.

There is no maximum number of entries per nation; it is recommended you enter every event with full participation if you intend to score well in the team event. However, you need not do so if for RP purposes, your nation is weak at cycling, for example. If you have to edit your entry, feel free, but please inform me in a new post of what changes were made, otherwise I'll likely miss them.

The number of points awarded will vary from event to event, depending on format.

Signups will close September 7.

The Krytenian Cycling Federation has decided not to send a team to the competition as it currently stands. This is due to the lack of parity between the men's and women's events.

OOC: I'm not sure if xkoranate 0.3 has the sport files for the events I haven't included; I know for certain that those I have do have sport files. That's the only reason I haven't included events for all.

ADD: Okay, having looked through the package contents it appears there's only a single file for the keirin and madison events which would suggest the one file could be used for both genders. There's also a file for women's team sprint.

IC: The KCF thanks the organisers for their prompt correction of what was assumed to be an oversight. A team will be announced in due course.

OOC: There's no women's team pursuit; I assume this is just a mistake though.

Cycling does not have a long tradition in The Babbage Islands. But I want this to succeed, and will therefore find a full team even if it means mining the secondary schools for the last couple of promising kids.

The National Cycling Union of Ad’ihan has indicated it will enter almost all its Olympians from the Fourth and Fifth Summer Olympics in non-road events, as well as the top native Tour of Ad’ihan finishes in the road events. The one exception is the inclusion of multi-sport athlete Jérôme Taric in three track events to give him a taste of track cycling, following his declaration at the Fifth Summer Olympics that he was ready to take on cycling.

The people in charge of putting this thing together have included road racers from the Fourth Summer Olympics, road racers from the Fifth Summer Olympics, road racers from Southham-Vonghurst, road racers from the Tour of Ad’ihan, road racers who switched to other disciplines to compete at the Fifth Summer Olympics and found they were actually pretty good at them, road racers who switched to other disciplines to compete at the Fifth Summer Olympics and didn't, a track racer from the Fourth Summer Olympics, various other sundry people, and some highly suspicious madison competitors. Don't say we didn't warn you.

OOC: As it stands, competition will begin around midday UTC on Wednesday Sept 8 and last through morning UTC Monday Sept 13. These times and dates are subject to change (read: subject to me being able to take a few days off), but obviously will also depend on the size of the tournament.

Speaking of which, just a note that the championships will proceed regardless of size, whether with 30 federations or with just the current four.

You cannot have individual skills for team entries, only a single team skill. Please change this, or I can just take the average.

I'm afraid that I've decided that I won't be that interested in this championship.

However, good luck.

Note: Whilst entered as a single delegation the Anersian team will be split into teams representing the two bailiwicks of the Ansernia Islands, the bailiwick a rider is representing is noted in the square brackets. For example whilst Keiran Grihou and Malwen Grigg will be considered to be riding on the same team and share support staff etc. Brian O'Shaughnessy and Aaron Baker will be considered to be riding for a different team and will have different support staff. Whilst considering themselves to be two separate teams should a decision be taken by the organisers to consider the two teams of the Ansernia Islands as a single entity for results purposes and such both the governing bodies of cycling in both Westerney and Iniseala shall accept such a decision.

The Fédération liventienne de cyclisme welcomes the entry by the Delaclav cycling authorities and the decision of the most-medalled cycling Olympian of its delegation, Daniel Cancellara, to attend. The FLC further wishes to confirm that the Ansernian Islands' road cycling teams will be split by island as per their request, but notes that this will affect the delegation's team score.

Finally, the FLC wishes to remind all other interested parties, especially the Krytenian Cycling Federation who have indicated they will be attending, that the deadline for entry to the championships are fast approaching.

OOC note: signups have been extended and will close at 0900 UTC (10 am UK, 5 am US EDT, 7 pm AEDT) tomorrow, Sept 8.
