World Baseball Classic 16
Tarrentum and Quintessence of Dust

Welcome to the 16th World Baseball Classic, co-hosted by Tarrentum and Quintessence of Dust. The WBC is the premier international baseball competition in NationStates Sport, and your team is one of 48 competing to become World Champions.

Teams have been drawn into 6 groups of 8, and will play each team in their group twice, once home, once on the road. For the group stages, your own team's ballpark(s) will be used.

You should now feel free to post RPs - and your rosters. A roster is a list of the names of your players - but you can include other information. This could include: positions, handedness, strengths and weaknesses, averages and statistics, WBC history, domestic history. You could also include pictures of your stadium and information about it, your uniforms, and your coaching staff. (Please try to minimise picture spam, however.) When each team uploads their roster information, we will be so kind and create a link from this post to their rosters for easy reference.

Here are some helpful links:

Rules to Follow and Live By
The Designated Hitter (DH) Rule will be used only if the home team uses the DH. If the home team does not use the DH, neither team will use the DH. If the home team has not specified (either on their roster thread or through a previous RP) the use of a DH in their stadium, then whomever RPs first will dictate whether or not a DH was used in the game.

In your Roster Posts it is helpful to include the following:
Code: Select all
 Choose my runscorers: Y / N
Choose my lineup: Y / N
Follow my Pitching Rotation: Y / N
Godmod scoring events: Y / N, any caveats
RP injuries to my players: Y / N, any caveats
Godmod injuries to my players:  Y / N
Eject my players: Y / N, any caveats
Godmod other events: Y / N, any caveats

Scorination
Line Scores will be posted but they need not be used. However, the final score must always be used.

If your opponent RPs first using the Line Score provided then you must also follow the line score for when runs were scored.

Games will be scorinated between 7:00 - 8:00pm EST / 1900-2000 UTC every game day.

Group Sponsorship Information and Playoff Venues

Group Sponsorship Information

MegOil Group
MegOil is a petroleum conglomerate formed in Meddicia that was part of the Re-Independence Treaty signed between Tarrentum and Meddicia to end the rebellion just a few months ago. While the Tarrentian government allowed the Meddicians govern themselves, they required MegOil in return. The company is still mostly based in the Meddician Capital of Ventili but the majority of their profits go into Tarrentian coffers. MegOil is the most popular petroleum company in Tarrentum and Meddicia and it’s not uncommon to find at least one Mega-MegOil Station in most towns of Tarrentum.
All players participating in the MegOil Group will receive a 500 jasite card that can be used at any Mega-MegOil station for gas, food, tobacco, or FTO (Fast-to-Order) meal!

Yuppers FoodBrands Group
Yuppers FoodBrands, Inc. is the largest food manufacturing company in Tarrentum. Owned by the uncle to Supreme President Cesare Italiana, the company boasts a product on every shelf of a Tarrentian supermarket and holds most government food contracts. The company also sponsors the FC Yuppers association football club. The company’s slogan – “Yuppers…FOR SUPPER!” was recently polled as the most well-known advertising slogan in Tarrentum.
All players participating in the Yuppers FoodBrands Group will receive a year-long supply of Yup-Start Breakfast Cereal and a 300 jasite credit card.

Modi-Cube One Group
Modi-Cube One is a fairly new Tarrentian corporation which manufactures and sells modern furniture. Derided by most fashion magazine as “child’s blocks” the furniture is a hit with inner-city Napoliromans and college students throughout the country. They have recently been brought to court about their “Guerilla Marketing” tactics which many in the industry think have gone too far. Most famously the company’s “Block out Squares” campaign which focused on their bookshelves blocking most governmental building entrances won them national prominence.
All players participating in the Modi-Cube One Group will receive a free Modi-Cube Desk set. Due to the large size, the furniture will be shipped to the players’ residences.

McSquiggie’s Group
“Eat the MEAT!” That slogan could be heard at the end of every WBC 15 television broadcast in Tarrentum and found at the end of every sports report. While McSquiggie’s cornered the sponsorship market last year during Tarrentum’s glorious WBC run, the company will now share the spotlight with other businesses throughout the nation. McSquiggie’s fast-food chain has been seen as both a shining light of Tarrentian entrepreneurialism and as the example of the excesses of Tarrentian culture. The company recently released their “7/8th” burger – it needs no explaining but definitely a trip to the doctor afterwards.
All players participating in the McSquiggie’s Group will receive a 1000 jasite donotion to a charity of their choice and a 125 jasite McSquiggie’s gift card.

MercantileBancshares Group
MercantileBancshares is the largest national bank in Tarrentum. With revenue approaching the 100 billion jasite mark last year, the bank has been the scene of some welfare protestors but most Tarrentians wouldn’t know what to do without Mercantile in their lives. The bank controls most of the credit card and ATMs in the nation and is quick to acquire any bank that makes a name for itself.
All players participating in the MercantileBancshares Group will receive a 12K Gold Pen and a $3000 debit card.

BergBucks Group
The only non-Tarrentian company with a WBC sponsorship, BergBucks, Inc. won favor in the Tarrentian marketplace when it was revealed that they would be setting up new BergBucks Kiosks in McSquiggie’s surrounding the playoff venues. In an interview with Tarrentian Business Weekly, Robert Brown, CEO of BergBucks, stated that the kiosks are merely a “foot-in-the-door” marketing step into the Tarrentian marketplace. Brown went on to say that with BergBucks ever increasing global brand he wouldn't be surprised to find "even a BergBucks in the Supreme President's palace!"
All players participating in the BergBucks Group will receive a 6-month supply of BergBucks "Strong" Roast Coffee and a 400 jasite gift card to McSquiggie’s.

Tarrentum Falcons

The Tarrentum Sports Committee, alongside the International Baseball League and IBL Players Corporation, announce their roster, starting lineups and pertinent information for the World Baseball Classic 16. The Supreme President Cesare Italiana personally announced all members of the national team earlier this week as he does for most international tournaments.

Major changes were announced as teams and players drastically improved or drastically fell off the face of the earth in last year’s IBL season. Most controversially, Vincent Saloni was replaced as Bench Coach by Confrenden Wildcats manager Dario Nurallia.

Image
Your breath will be taken away by the exceptionally beautiful Krozile State Ballfield in Krozuy, Krozile, Tarrentum, home to the IBL's Krozuy Falcons. Krozile State Ballfield will also host playoffs games in WBC 16. The ballfield looks out at the beautiful Krozile Mountains in northern Tarrentum. The stadium seats 35,000 and has 25 luxury suites. While the National Team usually plays in Napoliroma at Imperium Stadium, that ballfield is currently undergoing renovations during the IBL’s offseason.

*Position: First and Last Name, Age, B/T (Uni #)
Coaches
Manager: Tiberius Wavi, 47 (56) – Wavi has successfully managed the Napoliroma Legion to past success in winning professional baseball championships but the team has recently come up way short in the past two IBL seasons. Wavi is still highly respected and his international record speaks for itself.
Bench Coach: Dario Nurallia, 43 (29) – Nurallia has 12 years of managerial experience and has recently guided the Confrenden Wildcats to the top seed in the Allied League for the ASML playoffs. Confrenden finished 81 – 63.
First Base Coach: Ruboni Kilia, 50 (10) – Kilia has been in the First Base Coaches Box for 20 years holding the position with a variety of IBL and IBML (International Baseball Minor League) teams. He has coached for Napoliroma for the past five years. Kilia also serves as the outfield instructor for the Legion.
Third Base Coach: Galahad Asanti, 67 (89) – Asanti has seen many long years on the diamond. He was a star infielder in the former Allied States Major League forty years ago. He still holds the record for most homeruns by a second baseman with 500. Asanti has coached with the Riori Cannons for 25 years where he serves as their Bench Coach.

*Position: First and Last Name, Age, B/T (Uni #)
Pitchers
SP 1: Johnny Burtoni, 34, R/L (24) – Burtoni is a starter for the Confrenden Wildcats he made a splash in the IBL last year and pitched his way to an Illio Marcuzzi Award for the Allied League’s Pitcher of the Year. 2.13 ERA, 14 – 4, 9 home runs allowed, 33 BB, 242 K, .90 WHIP, .204 OAVG, .289 BAbip, 7.33 K/BB, 10.52 K/9, 23 QS, 78.8 VORP (First WBC)
SP 2: Liona Marrada, 26, L/L (16) – Marrada worked her way through the minor leagues alongside Julianna Italiana and became a fierce pitcher in her own right. Marrada has greatly improved her game over last year and was recognized as an All-Star this year for the first time. Last year she proved herself the most dominant pitcher in the Imperium League but could not translate that into a championship for the Krozuy Falcons. 2.31 ERA, 14 – 4, 4 home runs allowed, 23 BB, 240 K, 1.00 WHIP, .235 OAVG, .324BAbip, 10.43 K/BB, 9.73 K/9, 25 QS, 73.9 VORP
SP 3: Pollani ‘Dizzy’ Dazzera, 31, R/R (3) – Dizzy was finally moved up to the starting rotation for the Napoliroma Legion and led the IBL in K/9 with 10.83. He also led the Allied League in Wins with 15. Dazzera features a 96 mph fastball along with a sinker, curveball and cutter. 2.56 ERA, 15 – 9, 17 home runs allowed, 33 BB, 241 K, .95 WHIP, .211 OAVG, .289 BAbip, 7.30 K/BB, 10.83 K/9, 23 QS, 60.4 VORP
SP 4: Fironte ‘The Kid’ Sareb, 19, R/L (77) – Sareb became the number one starter for the Lower Marentian Rams last year and did not disappoint as he was named to the All-Star Team for the Confederation League. He sets a quick pace on the mound with his fastball, sinker and splitter pitches. 2.66 ERA, 15 – 5, 8 home runs allowed, 16 BB, 145 K, 1.03 WHIP, .247 OAVG, .295 BAbip, 9.06 K/BB, 6.54 K/9, 21 QS, 57.7 VORP
SP 5: Alberto Lugo, 34, S/R (11) – Lugo had a terrific year this past season as his career winds down. Though the Florentine Diamond Kings failed to make the playoffs, Lugo was close to the top in many statistical categories and was named to the All-Star Team and named Pitcher of the Month for June in the Allied League. He recently signed with the new IBL franchise in Lycrabon, the St. Catherine Blue Jays, for one year. Lugo only has three very effective pitches: 97 mph fastball, slider and changeup. 2.61 ERA, 12 – 5, 12 home runs allowed, 35 BB, 199 K, 1.03 WHIP, .227 OAVG, .299 BAbip, 5.69 K/BB, 9.44 K/9, 21 QS, 57.6 VORP (First WBC)

Long Reliever: Brodi Jacobo, 28, L/L (34) – Jacobo’s season mirrored that of the Legion as he failed to live up to expectations. His announcement to the National Team was somewhat of a surprise but Manager Tiberius Wavi said that it was due in large part to his contributions to last year’s team. 3.47 ERA, 8 – 10, 5 home runs allowed, 33 BB, 120 K, 1.17 WHIP, .253 OAVG, .301 BAbip, 3.64 K/BB, 6.21 K/9, 15 QS, 34.0 VORP
Mid Reliever: Romeo Vasparian, 23, R/R (74) – Vasparian is a breaking ball specialist with the Garatia Warhounds. He features a slider, changeup and forkball to go along with his 92 mph fastball. 2.90 ERA, 14 – 9, 9 home runs allowed, 57 BB, 145 K, 1.17 WHIP, .226 OAVG, .279 BAbip, 2.54 K/BB, 7.51 K/9, 25 QS, 51.2 VORP
Mid Reliever: Juliana Italiana, 24, S/R (18) – The beloved niece of Supreme President Cesare Italiana. Juliana broke the gender barrier in the IBL five years ago not through political force or manipulation but through sheer skill and determination. She easily handles batters with her curveball, changeup and slider. Italiana recently signed with the Napole Professors and led the Confederation League in lowest Hits per 9 innings (7.06) and lowest Opponents AVG (.210) last year. 2.75 ERA, 8 – 6, 7 home runs allowed, 45 BB, 173 K, 1.04 WHIP, .210 OAVG, .276 BAbip, 3.84 K/BB, 8.98 K/9, 18 QS, 51.4 VORP
Mid Reliever: Tim Sutton, 31, R/R (27) – The Lulika City Dragons were the beneficiaries of Sutton’s magnificent arm. Though a sub-.500 pitcher in the first season of IBL play, Sutton thrived in Silver Beach and won more games (20) then any other pitcher in the IBL. Sutton is arguably the best player for the expansion Dragons. 2.63 ERA, 20 – 7, 9 home runs allowed, 66 BB, 144 K, 1.12 WHIP, .222 OVG, .259 BAbip, 2.18 K/BB, 5.91 K/9, 23 QS, 70.1 VORP (First WBC)
Setup: Luis ‘Abnormal’ Mata, 35, R/L (9) – The Abnormal Mata! This aging pitcher proved he still had the wherewithal to close out games, leading the Allied League in Saves with 38 (falling one short of IBL leader Michael Shultz) for the Sainte-Jerro Avengers. 2.54 ERA, 38 S, 6 home runs allowed, 10 BB, 63 K, 1.18 WHIP, .262 OAVG, .330 BAbip, 6.30 K/BB, 8.91 K/9, 40 SVO, 19.5 VORP
Closer: Ederi Sallamo, 31, R/R (40) – Sallamo moves into the Closer role for the National Team after Francisco Azzri’s retirement at the end of the IBL season. Sallamo pitched brilliantly for the Legion recording 38 Saves to tie Mata for tops in the AL. 1.89 ERA, 38 S, 2 home runs allowed, 9 BB, 64 K, .96 WHIP, .222 OAVG, .291 BAbip, 7.11 K/BB, 8.64 K/9, 44 SVO, 25.4 VORP

*First and Last Name, Age, B/T (Uni #)
Infielders
Tristan Dolami, 26, S/R (40) – Dolami had a rough year, missing half the season due to a knee injury then a fractured jaw after getting hit by an errant pitch. Dolami is the only representative from the International Championship-winning Bolonza Atomics and the shortstop is looking to impress on the national stage. With Zappataro also on board, expect Wavi to limit Dolami’s games in order to help his injuries heal. Dolami was last year’s Adamantium Slugger for the CL, this despite only playing for 77 games out of the 144 game season. (Stats for 77 Games) BA .320, OPS .914, 13 HR, 66 RBI, 55 R, 3 SB (3 CS), 34.2 VORP (First WBC)
Erni Washini, 27, R/R (14) – Washini is the force of the Trumboi Archers and has made quite the name for himself in the IBL. His uniform is the top-selling baseball uniform outside of Tarrentum due to his quick wit, good looks and self-aggrandizing style of interviews which people can’t get enough of. BA .340, OPS 1.002, 24 HR, 93 RBI, 91 R, 0 SB (2 CS), 64.3 VORP (First WBC)
Trego Saronna, 34, L/L (66) – Saronna spent four years of his prime serving in the Tarrentum Armed Forces and is widely known as a clean cut, determined player for the Plymouth Bears in the infield. Saronna is a great field tactician. BA .231, OPS .660, 5 HR, 28 RBI, 47 R, 2 SB (1 CS), 3.4 VORP
Ferdini ‘Zappa’ Zappataro, 25, R/R (32) – Zappa changed locales again after a very successful season with the York Rangers and moved to Meddicia to play for the Ventili Boars. Last year, Zappa led the Rangers to a respectable 61 – 83 record for an expansion team. Zappataro also led the IBL in stolen bases with 67. BA .288, OPS .809, 8 HR, 45 RBI, 89 R, 67 SB (27 CS), 40.9 VORP
Xavier Gradoni, 30, S/R (18) – Gradoni plays third and first base for the Riori Cannons. He was rated as the number 1 batter in the IBL this season and is coming into the prime of his career. Gradoni was recognized as one of the top players in baseball by being voted as the CL’s Adamantium Slugger for 2010. BA .327, OPS 1.070, 40 HR, 95 RBI, 127 R, 82.3 VORP
Dessea ‘The Dream’ Vallena-Favella, 22, R/R (15) – Vallena-Favella became engaged and married to Garatia Warhounds catcher Antoni Favella after WBC 15 and before the IBL season began. Her new life as a married woman did not stop her from earning a Platinum Glove award at second base for the lowly Stroudsville Scruffy Platypuses. BA .357, OPS .857, 20 HR, 60 RBI, 74 R, 24 SB (7 CS), 29.8 VORP

*First and Last Name, Age, B/T (Uni #)
Outfielders
Gina Torretta, 30, R/R (61) – Torretta, who plays for the Sainte-Jerro Avengers, had a breakout year. She finished as the top player in 8 batting categories (Slugging, On-Base Percentage + Slugging, VORP, Runs Created, Runs, Hits, Total Bases and Home Runs) and as the number two player in AVG and Runs Created per 27 Outs. Torretta is sure to be a force in the outfield during international play also. She was also awarded the AL’s Adamantium Slugger Award for the Allied League’s best hitter. BA .354, OPS 1.080, 44 HR, 114 RBI, 117 R, 5 SB (5 CS), 87.2 VORP (First WBC)
Woodrio Tucia, 25, L/L (16) – Tucia was the force that put the Confrenden Wildcats into the playoffs this year. He tied for the Allied League lead in Home Runs at 44 with Sainte-Jerro standout Gina Torretta and finished second in RBIs with 117. BA .269, OPS .979, 44 HR, 117 RBI, 103 R, 22 SB (8 CS), 44.1 VORP (First WBC)
Rich Rasmussen, 23, R/R (8) – Rasmussen had a phenomenal rookie year playing centerfield for the Lulika City Dragons. Rasmussen was a key factor in the Dragons’ Confederation League Championship. Rasmussen’s individual effort did not go unnoticed as he was crowned the CL’s Unbelievable Breakthrough Award winner (top rookie). BA .281, OPS , 9 HR, 57 RBI, 61 R, 9 SB (12 CS), 10.6 VORP (First WBC)
Joe Thomas, 22, L/L (17) – Thomas had a breakout year in the IBL last season (his rookie year) with the Sainte-Jerro Avengers. Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: No, Lineups are posted
Follow my Pitching Rotation: Yes - that, my friends, is why it is there!
Godmod scoring events: Yes, within reason
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but only to the extent of saying what player was injured. Severity will be at my discretion
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Eject my players: Yes, one per game – No bench clearing brawls with mass ejections - unless you want to have a brawl and only a couple of ejections
Godmod other events: No, except for weather.

Other factoids: The International Baseball League does not have a DH for any team. All games played at Krozile State Ballpark will not have a DH in the lineup. If a game is decided by one or two runs either way then my starting pitcher was taken out and a reliever was put in. This means that for a 3-2 Tarrentum victory, either my Setup or Closer got the Save.

The Zwangzug Zebras!

Numbers after the teams denote their first tournament: this is mostly for personal record keeping. RPers have free rein, though I'd ask you to justify any departures from the given lineup or rotation.

The Zebras are a defensively-minded team overall, eschewing many power hitters in favor of patience at the plate. Pitchers, likewise, tend more towards finesse than speed. There is no DH used at our home stadium, the Worm Hole (located in Spenson).

Manager: Gina Croes (FTC Crabs). Makes the team run a little more than you might be used to; they're by no means a running team, but they'll be running more than usual. Still known in Zwangzug for her rants, although she talks too fast for most of the team to understand.

Starting rotation:

#55, Martin Loomis, R/R, Zwischen Bears, 14
#1, Parry Cordemoy, L/L, Logrove Dolphins, 14 Efficient, throws strikes...but vulnerable to surrendering extra-base hits.
#18, Matthew Cieger, R/R, Nuel Panthers, 15
#11, Kayla Lutrick, R/R, Belpub Wildcats, 16
#47, Brian Vaughan, L/L, Weegham Rainmakers, 16

Bullpen:
#14, David Nelson (long relief), L/L, FTC Crabs, 15
#36, Elisa Carrano (long relief), R/R, Hadiln Tigers, 16
#13, Sally Norona (middle relief), L/R, Arlington Aurora, 13
#22, Deborah Helmsley (middle relief), L/L, Belpub Wildcats, 14
#8, Stephen Kilbourne (middle relief), R/R, Zwischen Bears, 14
#31, Tiffany Smalls (middle relief), R/R, 102d Gray Sox, 15
#29, Gordon Chane (closer), R/R, Frischberg Flash, 15

Starting lineup:

For Round of 16 series against Lycrabon, Craga bats third in place of Mercer, Turner bats sixth, Blitch bats seventh, and Meg Hietala plays third and bats eighth. Further updates if necessary. Use given lineup for semifinals and beyond.

#20, Janet Aleplow, shortstop, R/R, FTC Crabs, 15
#23, Ida Pratt, left field, L/L, Noh Weir Red-Tails, 13
#30, Benjamin Mercer, third base, R/R, Frischberg Flash, 14 Hits for both average and power. Cool.
#7, Bruce Keigenbey, right field, L/L, Zwischen Bears, 15
#12, Ada Throop, center field, R/R, Weegham Rainmakers, 14 If there's such a thing as clutch, she has it. If not, well, there's nothing to see here.
#9, Jonathan Craga, first base, R/R, Kerlagrad Dragons, 15
#6, Jehoshaphat Turner, catcher, L/R, Belpub Wildcats, 14 If it's true that one hits, not walks, one's way out of Bigtopia, his deer-in-headlights expression suggests that said tendency is not genetic.
#4, Mason Blitch, second base, R/R, Nuel Panthers, 16
pitcher

Bench:
#15, Trevor Pisciott, catcher, R/R, Kerlagrad Dragons, 15 (DH if needed, batting sixth)
#28, Meg Hietala, corner infield, L/R, 102d Gray Sox, 16
#10, Cynthia Derly, outfield, R/R, Nuel Panthers, 15
#16, Brad Street, outfield, S/R, Kerlagrad Dragons, 16
#45, Keegan Oates, middle infield, R/R, FTC Crabs, 16

Mossulia Echo

Batters:

NAME: Zigard Uff (Captain) BIRTHPLACE: Cordian City, Kazzoria SPECIES: Penguin AGE:22
One of Mossulia's many penguins. He was always into baseball as a kid despite the fact that really it wasn't all to popular where he lived. He would have played for Kazzoria, but they were kicked out due to their puppetry status. Even though they kinda own us sadly. Still one step closer to freedom for me, I mean us.
NAME: Rader Naff BIRTHPLACE: Lavatorian City, Toiletdonia SPECIES: Polar Bear AGE: 31
A polar bear who used to live in a circus doing tricks to amuse the cruel public. In the end he became re-known for being able to hit a baseball really hard and he was given his freedom and the same civil rights as human beings. He played a few seasons with the Harbour herons before he came to live in the newly freed Mossulia.
NAME: Levi Juve BIRTHPLACE: Yuikuti, Indiarga SPECIES: Arctic fox AGE: 18
A fast little nipper lived in the free socialist state of Indiarga before it was brutally flattened by Kazzoria. He continued to live there in chains until the place was liberated and given back to Indiarga. He continued to live there before it was brutally flattened by Mossulians and he then went to live here as a fast young baseball player.
NAME: Piro Wasi BIRTHPLACE: Icy land, Arctic sea SPECIES: Walrus AGE: 31
Was brought up with the wild animals and learnt his baseball there by hitting Arctic geese miles with a stick. He then was spotted by a drunken talent scout and was brought back to Mossulia to play in the professional baseball league. He was selected by the national team on the basis that walruses are cool.
NAME: Tisa Siokkio BIRTHPLACE: Random snowy wasteland ,Antarctica SPECIES: Penguin AGE: 27
Was your average penguin, with a dream. To dance! Oh wait that's happy feet. No this guy was brought up by his mum and dad and he learnt baseball from them. They had only heard about it because some brave penguins nicked the local scientists TV and the whole town of penguins were into it. Eventually him and a couple of mates were selected to go to Mossulia and play the sport professionally.
NAME: Waset Populi BIRTHPLACE: Icy town, Northern Alaska SPECIES: Polar bear AGE: 24
As a kid he was arrested a few times for going into the human town. He was always a rebel and showed it by playing the frowned upon sport of baseball. You may think it's again bear traditions to play baseball, but really the reason they hate it is because they are British Cricket fans. They never liked him so he set up his own colony for baseball loving Polar bears. In the end only a few others joined, but they were all brought back to Mossulia to play for clubs.
NAME: Lucas Marso BIRTHPLACE: Mouth City, Toiletdonia SPECIES: Seal AGE: 19
Was one of those seals that did tricks, he was loved by the public and his main trick was to hit a baseball a really long way with his flipper. He was eventually granted his wish of going to play baseball for THe CaPItalz and he did well with them managing to be picked for Kazzoria in WBC 15. He then was moved along to here at the last minute to play.
NAME: Kiki BIRTHPLACE: Sardat Juiti, Indiarga SPECIES: Penguin AGE: 27
He was born in the lovely little sporting town of Sardat Juiti and was raised to love this sport. He was good and was scouted by many good clubs, and eventually brought by a bad club so they could get publicity. His only ever wish in life was to have a last name, but instead the club gave him a lot of money and that is life my friends.
NAME: Calzi "Risky" Montuge BIRTHPLACE: The Sea, Canada SPECIES: Seal AGE: 15
"Risky" as he is called was always a dare-devil, hence the name. When he was young he managed to fly over a burning truck on a skateboard while batting away balls that were being thrown at him. In the process of doing that he broke his leg, but he was okay in the end. He then was noticed not only for his excellent catching skills, but also his batting skills. He eventually was scouted by the Mossulian team and now here he is.

Our three pitchers are Risky, Marso and Kiki.

The Lycrabon Blue Jays enter their “first” WBC in national history with the sixteenth edition of the historical classic. The powers-that-be graciously allowed the Blue Jays to inherit the ranking of the country that the Lycrabonian military liberated and disbanded (Barnettsville), allowing the Blue Jays to “perpetuate” the previous country’s sporting history. As such, permissions are as follows:

Choose my runscorers: Y
Choose my lineup: N, it’s already decided.
DH/no DH: Let the pitchers hit!! (NO DH)

Eject my players: Y, if necessary, make it entertaining please
Godmod other events: Y, no deaths or stadium destruction please!

QOXSports.com/WBC 16 Coverage

PREVIEW:
At least this time We weren't drawn in with 2 other multiple time champions, just the runners-up from WBC15, Zwangzug. The good news is Qazox has a rather easy, on paper, group darw with Western cuba & St. Haden being the only other WBC teams with experience. Interestingly, both co-hosts, Quintessence of Dust and Tarrentum were drawn into the same group. The top 18 teams, the top 3 teams in group; will advance to the playoffs. We will preview Qazox' group over the next few days, but here's the true nuts & bolts, the roster and Schedule.

Head Coach: David Dell (2nd WBC) (7-7 overall, 2-3 playoffs)

STARTING LINEUP vs. RHP: (Bats/Throws)

CF- Thomas Brown L/L: Great Drag bunter and lightning quick, great arm, but no power.
3B- Juanita Sanchez L/R: Would be a 5-tool player, but is a bit slow. Great range at third and can hit it to any field.
LF- Dyana Garski L/R: Can play any OF position, good speed and power and great glove. Does have trouble hitting to left.
1B- Jason Tyson R/R: Tons of power, and a great glove for a 1st baseman. Does strikeout a bit.
2B- Chad Savoy R/L: Best glove on team and good power hitter. But is very impatient at plate and is a bit slow.
C- George Rabbinski S/L: A rarity, a left-handed catcher. Accurate arm and only Switch-hitter on team. Patient hitter at plate, strikes out rarely.
RF- Victoria Wright L/R: Would be lead-off hitter if she had more speed. Best contact hitter on team and works every count.
SS- Adele Grahame R/L: Good arm, decent speed and good contact hitter. Struggles vs. Lefties.
    P- (see below)
DH- Grant Calvin L/R: Has great power, but struggles with consistent contact at the plate.
(DH will bat 6th in games involving a DH)

STARTING LINEUP vs. LHP: (Bats/Throws)
RF- Mike Stiller R/R: A speed demon, but only has an average arm and range in the field.
    1B- Jason Tyson R/R
    LF- Dyana Garski L/R
    2B- Chad Savoy R/L
    C- George Rabbinski S/RL
3B- Diane Riggles R/R: Ok arm and range at third, but hits lefties like crazy and has good speed.
    RF- Grant Calvin L/R
    SS- Adele Grahame R/L
    P- (see below)
    DH-Juanita Sanchez L/R
(DH will bat 4th in games involving a DH)

STARTING PITCHING:
Eric Shoppach RHP: 4-seam Fastball has been clocked at 101. Strong slider and 2-seamer and a good change-up.
Brianna Hayes RHP: Throws a 95 mph fastball, and has a great 11-5 curve and a decent slider.
Charles Waskica LHP: Circle-change and knuckle-curve are his out pitches as his fastball rarely tops 92mph. Does throw a cut fastball that gets most lefties out as well.
Jeanne Atkins RHP: Great slider and 2-seamer. Servicable changeup and curve.
Mike Yarbourgh LHP: Knuckleballer with a mid-80's fastball and a circle-change that drops 5 inches

BULLPEN:
CLOSER: Ryan Batiste LHP: Ok Fastball and curve, with great slider and a lights-out circle-change. Decided to pitch exculsively lefty this WBC after being a swtich-pitcher last time around.
MRP: Tonya Douman- RHP: Left-handed specialist with a curveball that breaks leftie's arms. Also has a good 95mph 2-seamer.
MRP: Rene Coleman- RHP: Good slider and cruve. Fastball can be hit, but she doesn't throw it that often. Great control.
MRP: Stephanie Colbert- LHP: Only has 2 pitches, a 98-mph fastball and a 6-inch drop splitter. will only be used in blowouts & extra innings.
SU: Mikkala Chalmers- RHP Best control of bul-pen. But fastball only tops out at 88 and curve hangs a bit. Nasty changeup gets most batters out.
LRP: Chuck Glenallen- LHP Just called up due to Hobbes' injury. Mid-90's fast ball, a low 90's 2-seamer and a sweeping curve.

INJURED:
Closer: Nathan Hobbes- LHP: Cut Fastball and 12-6 curve are out-pitches. Knuckle-curve is good but can be hit.

[ 28 years old, Kitten has always put up good five-tool numbers with a career .298 BA, an average of 25 HRs per season, and at least thirty stolen bags. She has a solid glove on the hot corner, but has a tendency for base-running goofs here and there.]
LF - Adam Marksworth (R/S) #14
[ Taking over for Willhelm Dynrus is Adam Markworth. Seeing as Dynrus sat out the entirety of the last Classic, the top brass have decided to start Marksworth to be on the safe side. One of the best contact hitters around, he's posted a career .339 batting average. However, he has never hit more than 17 longballs in a single season and is not a power threat. Good baserunning, making contact, and productive outs are his thing. ]
1B - Johnny Stryker (L/L) #5
[Now a grizzled veteran at 29 years old, Stryker is an amazing five-tool player. He hits for average. He hits for power. His speed is positively explosive on the basepaths, and he's a defensive wizard to cap it all off. He also possess many intangibles that are only boosted given his superstar status. He is a spark-plug for his team both on and off the field, thus giving him the name of "The Catalyst.". This off-season saw a 'changing of the guard' and Stryker has assumed the title of team captain.]
CF - Dmitri Rykov (R/R) #17
[ One of the more overlooked players on the Nordics roster, though we can't imagine why. Rykov is also a five-tool super-star talent, frequently posting stats that look something like this: 332/42 HR/120 RBIs through his five big league seasons. Known for his ability to come through in the clutch, he has the nick name "Mr. Clutch." Has good speed and a dead eye and a terrific arm in the outfield. ]
C - Kevin Monroe (R/L) #6
[ A well-rounded catcher with good defensive and terrific offensive abilities. He was elected to the WBC team after posting a .310/31 HR/112 RBI season in rookie year to replace the now retired Hoyt Klaus. Due to the fact he is only 26 years old, the wear and tear his position usually inflicts hasn't caught up with him and he has good, but not blinding speed on the basepaths.]
SS - Jill Haviland (R/R) #7
[ A rarity among infielders, Jill Haviland has an excellent power stroke. She is known for her majestic, 425+ ft homeruns that come easily to her, giving her the tongue-in-cheek nickname "Princess of Pounders" Everything works for her, and her swing is regarded as one of the most beautiful in Tocrowkian baseball. She is much more than just a slugger though, and can pretty much get every type of hit from line drivers to tape measure jacks. She can also protect her strike zone fairly well. On top of that, she is a media darling with a great personality, and is regarded as the most attractive female player on the team. Voluntary resigned her position of team captain to Stryker in the off-season. ]
2B - Michael Hammer (Switch/Right) #24
[ The MVP of the 1st Keisler cup, Hammer went on to be drafted by the Nouva Yourk Nightmares, and after a brief stint in the minors has gone on to become a ROY candidate. A news article describes him thusly: "He has the potential to be the greatest offensive second baseman in the history of the Reich. He treats opposing pitchers like you or I would treat a thanksgiving turkey, carving into them mercilessly. He can hit line drives into the gap, lift the ball into the seats, and slap the ball between the infielders and the outfielders. He is not a high-ball nor a low-ball hitter. He is an any-ball hitter. Through this all though, he maintains a modest and empathetic personality. He frequently hangs his head, refusing to make eye contact with the pitcher after he hits a homerun, almost as if he is embarrassed. His parents should have probably named him "Clark" and he could undoubtedly rock a red cape and tights with the letter "M" super-imposed on the chest just as well as he does a cap and cleats. He is also a solid player on D, but is prone to make aggressive plays, such as going for the lead runner or the one breaking for the plate than the sure out. But he is an athlete and can make those diving stops and those jumping throws as good as anyone else. ]
RF - Kathrin Jordan (L/S) #22
[ 26 year old Kathrin Jordan will be in right. She is essentially another lead-off hitter with great speed and good contact. She also has good power for a girl her size, and she is always a threat to steal on the basepaths. In fact, she had 57 SB's in her ROY season. Also a strong arm in the outfield. ]
-Pitchers Spot-

Pitchers:
SP - Tommy Thunder (Righty) #27
[ The ace of the Nordics staff for the past several classics. Classic power pitcher, with a 93-98 MPH fastball, 12-6 Curve, cut fastball and circle change making up his arsenal. Attacks the strike zone, especially the corners, with his fastball and uses his other pitches for outs. And having player 3rd base during high school and half of his college career, he is no slouch at the plate, either, and can hit balls and hit them deep. ]
SP - Alexandria Dassow (Righty) #12
[ If you are expecting the gross arsenal of pitches of Sofie Behm, or the over-whelming power of Tommy Thunder you will be disappointed. Dassow is however a tremendous finesse pitcher, location and quality strikes her specialty. She has command of only three pitches, but each is money. A 92+ MPH fastball, a slider, and a circle change. ]
SP - Sofie Behm (Lefty) #20
[ Sofie is a making her fourth WBC appearance and is only 25 years old to boot. She has quite the arsenal consisting of a 93-98 MPH fastball, a cutter, a slider, a curveball, and a splitter.]
SP - Matthew Shaporio (Righty) #19
[ A pitcher with excellent control of four pitches: A 92-97 MPH fastball, an odd screwball, a deceptive splitter and a great change up. Has an odd wind-up and delivery style, which of course deceives hitters. Count on him to rack up a lot of Ks on a lineup when he's grooving. Relegated as the number four starter after his horrid performance in the last edition of the classic. ]
SP - Sven Grewe (Left/Left) #28
[ The young southpaw, and a star pitcher of the Keisler Cup championship run. She, like Hammer has gone on to become a star in the big leagues. She has an overpowering 98 MPH fastball, a nasty slider, a nice cutter and one of the best circle-changeups you'll see. She hits her spots but has the tendency to tilt rather badly when calls go against her. If and when that happens, she becomes extremely volatile and wild. She has even been known to break out in tears and nervous break downs on the mound. ]

Bullpen
MR - Jeanna Glaus (Lefty)
[ A sink baller by nature, Jeanna also has a 86-92 MPH fastball, curve ball and a slider to make use of. Of course her sinker is her main pitch however, which results in a lot of ground outs. Relegated to the bullpen because age is finally catching up to her.]
MR - Mercedes Gaunt (Righty)
[ After the retirement of Jaycen Hester, Mercedes Gaunt took his place in the pen. Like Hester, Gaunt is a former starter turned reliever. She is a Finesse pitcher who relies on breaking pitches and off-speed pitches to win games. Throws quality strikes, and has a low walk percentage to show for it. However, her fastball, which tops out at a maximum of 86 MPH is sort of easy to hit, but due to all the off-speed stuff she mix's in, it makes up for it.]
MR - Julius Kalden (Righty)
[ If the Nordics ever run into a situation where the need some serious innings to be eaten up, this is the man. 22 Years old, Julius has a good 92 MPH fastball, a 12-6 curve, a cutter and a splitter to make up his arsenal. ]
MR - Erma Lorenz (Lefty)
[ A knuckle-baller with a lively 92 MPH cut fastball and a nasty slurve to back up the knuckle ball. She is good for up to three innings of effective relief if the Nordics need her to do so. ]
LHS - Annaliese Geyr (Lefty)
[ Left-handed specialist used against tough lefties. A cutter, slider, splitter and circle change make up her arsenal. ]
SU - Amber Taven (Righty)
[ Amber Tavern, an impressive young woman that performs well under pressure, has an arsenal of pitches to work with. A 95 MPH Fastball, a two-seam Fastball which has good movement and has a good late break, and is extremely effective against lefties. An excellent slider, which she often uses for outs against righties, an effective curve which breaks down and away, and finally a great change up. Amber is extremely emotional, and some would say cocky, and often performs elongated celebrations after retiring the side. ((OOC: Seriously. Imagine her doing something like Jonathan Papelbon and K-Rod after every out she records.)) ]
CL - Jamie Von Tipker (Righty)
[ A classic closer. Unlike her set-up counter-part, Jamie is a calm and modest player, but she is extremely effective. She has command of a cut-fastball, which she throws with great effectiveness and oddly enough causes alot of broken bats. She also has a good 12-6 Curve, circle change and finally a sinker. ]

Bench:
Michel Keitel (Catcher, 1st base, 3rd base) (R/R) #9
[ A young catcher, used more often than not to give Monroe a break for a game or two. He can call a good came, but has iffy skill when it comes to throwing runners out. Can hit for power, but not for average and is vulnerable to striking out. He can also play the corner infield positions ]
Willhem Dynrus (Leftfielder, Left/Left) #13
[ Returning after a one-Classic absence, Dynrus is expected to sit on the bench for the first couple of games. Though the injury he suffered a year ago that robbed him of the chance to play in the Classic has made him not quite the speed-demon of years gone by, he still sports a valuable bat and a canon of an arm.]
Heinz Görtz (Utility Outfielder) (L/L) #11
[ Can play either right or left field. He's a solid defensive player, but he can really struggle at the plate at times. When he does make contact however, he can hit the ball a long way. ]
Carmen Rein (Utility Outfielder) (L/L) #29
[ A young center fielder, Carmen is known for her athletic and impressive plays in the outfield and her cannon of an arm, having two gold-glove awards in her short career. Not a lot of power, but is pretty fast, making her a good pinch runner too. ]
2B - Domino Mazdrick (R/S) #35
[ Relegated to the bench after an injury prone season, Mazdrick probably won't see a light of playing time with a bad ankle and back coming into the classic. Still, she can be considered a dangerous pinch hitter when coming into the game. ]

ROSTER

Starting Rotation
34 Brad Baxter (RHP): Nicksia Nighthawks Baxter led the Sarzonian major leagues in wins (17), innings pitched (172) and strikeouts (156).
18 Chris Carlton (LHP): Portland Fishermen Unlike the other lefty starter in Sarzonia's rotation, Carlton is a hard thrower, but has learned to throw a hard curveball in addition to his big, slow curve, which serves as his off speed pitch. He also throws a sinker when necessary.
27 Brian Edwards (RHP): Lexington Flight Despite the Flight's last place finish in the Incorporated League, Edwards was an 11 game winner (11-5, 2.67 ERA). He doesn't strike out many and relies on a sinking fastball to get ground ball outs.
22 Charlie Palmer (LHP): Portland Fishermen Known for having the best changeup in all of Sarzonian baseball, he was named the first-ever Jim Palmer Award recipient for postseason MVP after leading the Fishermen to a Sarzonia Series crown.
16 Josh Campbell (RHP): Woodstock Mountaineers His performance during the Cyanea Series against Delaclava's Quinniville Conquistadors propelled the young Campbell into the starting rotation to replace the now-retired Sutcliffe.

Bullpen
32 Kenny Spencer (RHP): Saugerties Streakers Spencer is arguably the best setup man in the history of the sport in Sarzonia. He has only six saves in his career, but makes a living closing the door in the eighth inning.
29 Jay Ballard (LHP): Nicksia A specialist at getting lefthanded hitters out, Ballard made only one career start in secondary school. He threw a two-hit shutout in the state championship in that start.
33 Roger Tolliver (LHP): Avalon Aeros The lefthanded long reliever for the Aeros, he led the league with most innings pitched by a reliever (79) without making a start. His 38 appearances led the league among all relief pitchers.
17 Kerry Clark (RHP): Woodstock The leader among all of Sarzonian baseball with 29 saves, Clark has a devastating curveball and fastball. He's working on developing a change up.
39 Alvin Dryden (LHP): Rypien Rhinos Dryden is the lefty closer on the national team and will alternate with Clark depending on the opponent. Dryden led his league with 27 saves.
58 Alan Tisdale (switch-pitcher): Woodstock Lists himself as "semi-dextrous" because he's a power pitcher as a righthander, but a finesse pitcher as a lefty.
36 Calen George (LHP): Woodstock Mountaineers George really made a name for himself during the Cyanea Series by throwing two lengthy shutout outings in relief against the Quinniville Conquistadors, including a five-inning stint in Game 7.

Position Players (starters in bold)
C 10 Fred Carlton: Grovesmont Gryphons Carlton is the best defensive catcher in Sarzonian baseball. Calls a great game, threw out 44 percent of opposing baserunners. His problem: He hit .227 with only two home runs.
1B 36 Skip Hale: Woodstock Steps in to play first base in favour of the retired Everly, who joins the Stars as hitting coach. He is expected to have some growing pains in the position.
2B 6 Dewey Griffin: Avalon The sparkplug for the Aeros, Griffin led both major leagues with 44 stolen bases and nine bunt hits. He was tied for second in the league in sacrifice hits (bunts or flies).
SS 2 Chris Spontanelli: Townshend Tigers: One of the many shortstops in the Cal Ripken mold, Spontanelli led his team with 17 homers and 81 RBI. At 6'5", he's the tallest starting shortstop in Sarzonia.
3B 9 Kate Schmidt: Bristol Bears: The only female to earn a starting spot on the national team, she hit .309 to lead her team and smacked 11 home runs.
LF 19 Tyrell Gordon: Portland Set a record for most outfield assists in college or high school baseball with 133. Had only two outfield assists this season when major league teams decided not to risk running on him.
CF 23 Drew Bradley: Avalon A speedster, Bradley is known for his graceful play in center and led his league in outfield assists with nine.
RF 24 Mark Dwight: Nicksia Not much with speed or a throwing arm, but Dwight specialises in being at the right place at the right time. He led the league with a .361 batting average.

Reserves
OF 11 Micah West Grovesmont Not the fleetest of foot, but has a rocket for a throwing arm and has excellent anticipation.
OF 7 Tyler Hunter Bristol: Can play either corner outfielder position, but his throwing arm is arguably the worst in the league. Is better known for his bat.
C 13 Mario Salvidotti Avalon: Improving as a receiver, Salvidotti led his team with 21 home runs and 89 RBI.
IF 3 Russ Fraley Bristol Handled his demotion to reserve behind Schmidt with surprising grace and honed his skills as a shortstop so he could play short, third or first. He also is learning how to play second.
IF 5 Bryan Carroll Portland Extremely valuable asset to his team, he can play any position in the infield. Could serve as the emergency catcher if necessary.

The first meeting of the Sarzonian national baseball team's coaching staff could not have gone any worse.

The usual suspects gathered in manager Khalil Dennis's office to discuss the roster that would be submitted in Sarzonia's effort to make it past the semifinal round for the first time in team history. When Dennis announced that John Morgan would take his usual spot in the rotation, pitching coach Jim Wiesen went ballistic.

"After what he did last time, he does not belong on this team," Wiesen said.

"We've been through this already," Dennis said. "He's paid his penalty and he's come back to the team."

"Ridiculous," Wiesen snapped. "By all rights he should be in jail. There's no way he belongs on this team."

"Jim," Khalil said, "we've discussed this already. He's on the team now unless he pitches himself off or he does something foolish again."

"No," Wiesen snapped. "All right. Let me put it to you this way: Either Morgan goes or I go."

Two hours later, Dennis was in front of the media announcing the abrupt resignation of Wiesen and the naming of Ken Sutcliffe as pitching coach.

"Khalil," one reporter began. "Aren't you concerned that Sutcliffe has no coaching experience?"

"No," he said. "It's a simple matter that Ken had been an unofficial pitching coach already. We're just hastening the process."

"Can you discuss Wiesen's departure?"

"I am not at liberty to discuss it," Dennis said. "The fact is that he is no longer on our coaching staff and Ken Sutcliffe is."

Dennis would not let the questions continue about Wiesen, but he couldn't suppress the story for very long.

Fielders - Name, Position, Uni#, B/T
Catchers
Ryu Takamori, C/1B, #36, S/R. Better batter than defensive catcher.
Hideo Uehara, C, #21, R/R. Defensive-minded catcher with strong arm to throw out basestealers.

Infielders
Seiji Inugami, 1B, #16, L/L. Most dangerous hitter on the team. Usually the one who DHs in games that have them.
Kaori Kichida, 2B, #35, R/R. Fastest player on team with servicable glove. Her bat leaves something to be desired, though she's surprisingly good at bunts.
Daisuke Mizokuchi, 3B/SS, #91, L/L. Chiefly backup with decent power.
Kenji Momose, 1B/C/3B, #93, R/R. Utility infielder usually used for defensive substitutions.
Kenta Morita, 2B/3B, #28, R/R. Solid defense and dangerous on the basepaths...if he can get on them.
Minoru Shiraishi, 3B/1B, #44, L/L. Speed and good contact hitting are strengths.
Satoshi Takeda, SS, #45, S/R. Strengths are in contact hitting and defense.

Outfielders
Toya Kaneda, RF, #27, S/R. Good defensive fielder and the best bat to get runners home.
Kei Maebara, LF, #50, R/R. He is most dangerous at the plate and on the basepaths. Defense...not so much.
Junichiro Mori, CF/LF, #99, L/L. Can play anywhere in the outfield and has good speed.
Daisuke Taguchi, CF, #23, S/R. Not that powerful a hitter, but good throwing arm and gets on base pretty frequently.

Pitchers - Name, Uni#, B/T
Manabu Hashimoto, #86, R/R. Long reliver.
Sousuke Hayasaka, #74, L/L. Middle-relief pitcher.
Juntaro Ikeda, #59, R/R. Power pitcher who has both a 4- and 2-seam fastball, as well as a decent 12-6 curve.
Taro Izumi, #30, R/R. Ace of the staff - has a fastball that can reach the mid-90s as well as a cutter, a slider, and a change-up.
Kyo Kunimoto, #58, L/L. Control pitcher whose repitoire includes a slurve, circle change, curve, and 2-seamer.
Natsuki Minamoto, #77, L/L. Set-up man (er, woman) who sometimes closes.
Kouhei Miyabara, #60, R/R. Closer. Relies on a low-90s fastball combined with a change-up, with an occasional slider for good measure.
Shizuma Murase, #66, L/L. Long reliever.
Keiichi Okazaki, #72, R/R. Long reliever and spot starter if a starter is injured. Relies on fastball.
Yuuichi Sawatari, #54, L/L. Relies on a sharp sinker to induce groundouts. Also has a curve and change-up. Has begun incorporating splitters to ring up more strikeouts.
Reito Tachibana, #94, R/R. Middle-relief pitcher.
Shizuru Yoshino, #79, R/R. Relies on knuckleball and an occasional 12-6 curve to confuse batters and make them look silly, which tends to play into the mind games she likes to play. Unknown how this will play out at this high level of play.

Manager: Hayato Kojima, #0

Tarrentum Falcons Sporting News
National Team Players Arrive and a Look at the Schedule

After only a year participating in their first World Baseball Classic, Tarrentum now has the opportunity, along with our friends the Quodites, to give the world a great WBC tournament of their own. It's not as though this tournament was undeserved for the Tarrentian people. The National Team made a surprise run, being unranked, into the WBC 15 Playoffs, losing in a heart-breaking Game 3 to the Sarzonia Stars in the First Round. Now though, after their appearance at number 22 on the World Baseball Rankings, the Falcons can show the world that they can still play ball with the best of the world.

The Falcons have begun practicing and the International Baseball League has prolongated the break between Spring Training (which just wrapped up) and the Regular Season for the players to participate in this 16th WBC. Most owners and coaches were not happy with the IBL's decision but Nicholas Ozzarela, IBL Commissioner, made it perfectly clear that the advancement of Tarrentian baseball was more important to the IBL then starting their season on time. "There will always be time for the IBL in Tarrentum. But right now with the attention, and money, moving to the WBC, we have to look at what is the best for the people of our nation." Ozzarela's remarks caused some owners to revoice their outspoken opposition on the subject. Husoni Knights owner, Narence Collono Jr., said that while the WBC "may be drawing people's attention away my budget and expenses don't change. The players and personnel still have to be paid and I'm just losing money if I can't get people to come to the stadium."

Despite all of the frustrations in the IBL, the players are starting to arriving, slowly, to the Krozile State Ballpark Sports Complex, where they will train and play as Imperium Stadium undergoes renovations. (The Napoliroma Legion are currently playing at Erinella Park, home of the Tarrentum Storm). First to arrive was baseball's only, after the arrest and trial of Michael Grastiona, professional couple - Antonio Favella and Dessea Vallena-Favella. While we could only get a couple of questions into the couple as they walked into the practice facility they did say that they were looking forward to a great tournament and a good progression over last year's results. We have also recieved word from the Tarrentum Sports Committee that Valerio Utteroni, the team's other catcher, and most Starting Pitchers will arrive later today at the Sports Complex to begin their practice. For most players it will be as if Spring Training never ended!

A look at Tarrentum's schedule first has to give us a double take. Being in the MegOil Group alongside former WBC 15 Group opponent and co-host Quintessence of Dust was a huge shock to all participating nations when the draws were announced. Tarrentum Sports Committee officials were quick point out that the draw was both accurate and fair and that their was no collusion between any other nation and Tarrentum to influence the draw. And really, who are we to argue with that? Sometimes crazy stuff happens. We know that it will be a great rematch between these two teams. While Tarrentum lost both contests against the Quodites they were hard fought games and with the new additions to the Tarrentian roster, manager Tiberius Wavi should be confident in his team's chances to make it into the Playoffs without having to go through the Play-In Series.

Bodegraven - Game 1 (AWAY); Game 8 (HOME)
Bodegraven should not give the Falcons and fits or starts but should be a decent appetizer for the rest of the WBC. Expect a brief outing by the Starting Pitcher in the first game as run support should come up big against this first time participant.

Grantanata - Game 2 (HOME); Game 9 (AWAY)
Grantanata is also a newcomer and the Falcons should easily handle the team.

Quintessence of Dust - Game 3 (AWAY); Game 10 (HOME)
Tarrentum first goes knocking on the Quodites door in Game 3 and this will be the Falcons first real test. The Falcons come in at a disadvantage because of the perceived lack of competition from their first two games while the Quodites will be coming off a road game against Delaclava. All fans from both nations will be watching to see if the Falcons can end their losing ways against their Southern friends. [OOC: Hope I got your geographic location right this time :)]

Delaclava - Game 4 (HOME); Game 11 (AWAY)
Delaclava has not played Tarrentum in International Baseball yet but we should expect a great game out of these two. While Tarrentum comes in at a slight disadvantage the games projected starter (right now) is 'The Kid' Sareb. Sareb's ability to control the flow and tempo of the game should help him a lot.

Iron Coast - Game 5 (AWAY); Game 12 (HOME)
Tarrentum and Iron Coast met up in the TIBRRT earlier this year and Iron Coast surprised a lot of people in Tarrentum with their gritty play. If the team shows up for the WBC then we should expect a similar performance. The teams split their two games in the TIBRRT so the Falcons cannot overlook this opponent.

Sibirsky - Game 6 (AWAY); Game 13 (HOME)
While unknown to fans in Tarrentum, Sibirsky has been on the WBC scene before. The scouts have yet to report on the Capitalizts but I'm sure that, as their moniker alludes to, they've bought...err brought...the best players from Sibirsky to the table. While a tough opponent, the Falcons should win both games.

New High Charity 24 - Game 7 (HOME); Game 14 (AWAY)
The last unranked opponent in the MegOil group, NHC 24 may well be a sleeper team (hell any of the UR teams may be) just as Tarrentum was last year. While little is known about the team the Falcons have plenty of time to prepare against them.

All in all, the Falcons have a couple of tough opponents in the MegOil Group, apart from the obvious Quintessence of Dust and Delaclava, the Falcons cannot overlook Sibirsky or Iron Coast (as history would suggest). There will be upsets but consistent play will help lead the team into the playoffs again.

Churchma Rockets will play in WBC 16, after visiting quarterfinals in Wadomia Invitational
The Republic will send a 25-man roster of some of the top RBA (Republic Baseball Association) players to the 16th edition of the World Baseball Classic. This team features two of the top pitchers in the league right now in Colby Colgate and Darren Brickwell. The "Churchma Rockets" manager is none other than Ben Barksdale. Barksdale has been a manager in the RBA for the past 34 seasons, and there isn't another manager that possesses his kind of experience. Over the years he's managed four different clubs, and won nine RBA championships.

This Rockets team just finished the Wadomia Invitational with a 4-2 record in pool play, before falling to Cotdelapoms in the quarterfinals. "Our offense was on fire all tournament long- we were the top scoring team in our division. We'll look to continue that, as well as get some more consistent play from our pitching staff in the WBC," starting shortstop Randy Gomez said. Gomez hit one homerun, six RBI, had four stolen bases, and batted .319 in seven games in the Wadomia Invitational.

Mossulia Echo

Well how quickly this comes around. It's the world baseball classic and for any Teroian nation this will be our 3rd. As they say 3rd time lucky, but maybe it won't be for us. Mainly because our players are off form and struggling at the minute to keep up with the training routine. Many people think that we could struggle in this cup.

Still as it is we have the support of all three ex-Teroian nations (Kazzoria, Indiarga and Mossulia.) They are all behind us and some old Teroian baseball legends will be writing articles and will be behind Mossulia all the way. Yukin Jancotta, Ino Moss and Garry-o-Spurone will be presenting all the games on Misula Sports 1&2. They are all well experienced and all know what their talking about, most of the time.

In their group Mossulia have three real challenges. Newmanistan, a team that have come out of retirement to defend their title. Yafor 2 a team that are of an age, but are not know for winning things in Baseball. Then there is Mantwenic, a team that seems to be ageless and new at the same time, we look forward to taking them on.

The Secristan Department of Sports released the teams official roster this evening. Players still have to bid for their positions, but the SDOS for baseball tends to “lose” the bids of lesser known or less-skilled players.

The SDOS would also like to remind people of the following:

DH?: Yes! (Only because it is one more spot the SDOS could hold an auction for and make money on).
Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: No, it is here.
Follow my Pitching Rotation: No, we use a 5-man rotation so it shouldn’t be hard to figure out who starts.
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but I will determine how bad it is.
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Eject my players: Yes
Godmod other events: Yes to fights, brawls, charging the mound, arrogant player or fan behavior and weather. No to anything else.

The winning stadium bidder to host out home games is:
Monopoly Stadium- Located in the Capital City of Amherst, itcan seat 64,000 for baseball
Dimensions: LF: 351, LCF: 366, CF: 397, RCF: 366, RF: 351

Head Coach: John Fusco (44). First time coach, but played on our team from WBC 9-13. A former first baseman and great power hitter, he is also known for his central role in brawls against Newmanistan.

Starting Rotation
Kevin Chavis (24, R/R)- In a bit of a coup, Chavis moves up from #4 in the rotation to the ace. He can handle the role, this is simply notable because the top 3 pitchers, who’d all still be in their 20's are no longer here. Rumors are the SDOS “lost” their bids as a punishment for some of the teams recent underachievement. His top three pitches are the fastball, curve, and changeup.

Anthony O’Brien (21, L/L)- Anthony appeared on the U-16 Junior Millionaires staff for the Keisler Cup, and like Chavis, he was the ace of that staff, and he moves up from #5 to #2 here. His top three pitches are the fastball, curve, and slider. He has a lot in common in Chavis.

Jared Triplett (20, R/R)- A hard throwing righty who has never appeared on any international roster before. He is a bit low-key despite throwing close to 100 MPH.

Jennifer Taylor (20, L/L)- A chick? Wasn’t it other One Big Island nations did that? Being from a hometown 5 minutes away from Secristan’s border with Cassadaigua probably did wonders for her development. Jennifer did appear on our last roster as a reliever but she has always been a starter by trade. Her out pitch is a nasty sinker and cutter.

Garrett Stevens (22, R/R)- Garrett is another international rookie as the starting rotation has this curious makeover to go younger. While he does have a good fastball, his slider will have opposing batters looking silly. He does too, if its any consolation, with his hair dyed blue and about 10 lip piercings.

Bullpen:
Francisco Martinez (39, LHP)- THE CLOSER. Martinez has been the closer since WBC 9 and still gets the job done. Generally only goes one inning, but is capable of going two. He can hit 102 MPH, and mixes in a nasty circle change. Due to his longevity, possibly the best closer in WBC history.

Michael McKeon (42, RHP)- SET UP MAN. McKeon is also a closer by trade, however instead of attempting to compete with Martinez in bidding for that role, Michael has settled on the 8th inning set-up man role, and he has done this since WBC9. He did close in WBC 8. Has developed good chemistry with Martinez on the national team, and their ages are not a hindrance at this point. Michael has hinted that this could be his last go-around. (F-Mart has no such intention).

Chad Jarvis (39, RHP)- Short reliever. Makes his sixth appearance in the WBC as the Millionaires seventh inning specialist. Relies on a nasty 12-6 drop on his curve, plus a splitter.

Andrew Tomberlin (38, RHP)- Andrew makes his fifth appearance. He’s to be used as a long reliever (i.e. situations where we would pull a starter in the 5th inning or prior). These men are simply ageless.

Ricky Sweeney (26, LHP)- Short reliever. Ricky was the closer of the Keisler Cup’s U-21 team, and possesses a nice fastball, nasty curve and downright criminal circle change. He is a closer domestically, and would be the heir apparent to F-Mart if he ever hangs them up. It’s his third appearance on this team.

Armando Cordova (19, LHP)- Long, short, middle; ahead, behind, tied, it doesn’t matter as he is the utility guy.

Starting Lineup (using DH) (Age, Throws/Bats)
1) Jonas Kindlan- LF (32, R/S) Speedster; had hit second in the order previously but moves up after Jason Carlin did not bid. Very popular with young female fans and is in his sixth WBC.

2) Brian Schuster- CF (19, R/R)- One of the most arrogant teens you will ever meet. His trash talking began at the Keisler Cup as a 13-year old, and thanks to his billionaire parents, he was able to be the highest bidder for this spot. He’s projected five-tool player so he is able to back it up.

3) Todd Meyer- 1B (26, L/S)- The cleanup batter on the U-21 Keisler Cup team, Meyer was the DH in WBC 14 and is now ready to showcase his skills as an everyday player. After being a little disappointing in the last WBC, this is an important competition for him.

4) William Sutliffe- RF (31, R/S)- Sutliffe, as we were hoping, has emerged as the on and off the field leader of this team. He can hit for average, power, and steal bases and is above average in the field.

5) Jeremy Duffy- 2B (20, R/R)- The youth movement continues Jeremy competes in his 2nd Classic. He has great power, though might be a little raw at this stage of his career, opponents still better respect that power or he can hurt you badly.

6) Adrienne Hornicek- 3B (33, L/L)- Adrienne doesn’t have much power, but she can hit for a .340 or so batting average which makes her very useful to “clean up the bases” after the big bats. Should get many RBI’s just like she did last time. A perfect “#6" batter.

7) Eddie Forte- SS (32, R/R)- Doubles-type hitter, has tremendous discipline. Gold-glove caliber fielder. Drops from 3rd in the lineup.

8) Jose Ortiz- DH (32, R/R)- - Second time starter and again as the DH. He has a ton of power. He also strikes out a ton. In the field, when necessary, he is a corner infielder.

9) Justin Morrissey- C (21, R/S)- The only true rookie to the starting batting lineup, Justin is a more then capable catcher and hitter. However think the SDOS is lying about him outbidding Lenny Jackson as part of the starting pitching youth movement coup. It’d make sense to have a young catcher, too.

Bench:
Lenny Jackson- C (31, L/L)- For the sixth time he is on the WBC team as the backup catcher.

Kevin Fisher- 1B/3B (20, L/L)-- One to watch for the future, he can do it all. This is his debut, but he was the cleanup batter of the U-16 Keisler Cup team. Todd Meyer is definitely looking over his shoulder.

Chris Ainsley- 2B/SS (26, R/S)- Outstanding defensive middle infielder, and the bat is respectable, as last season he hit .295 with 13 HR’s. He has great wheels, too

Scottie Miniger- OF (24, L/S)- Probably the fastest player on the team, he will pinch run late in games. He’s not a bad hitter, and could one day, start.

When we are in nations not using the DH: Same lineup, just move Morrissey to 8th and pitcher hits 9th.

SARZONIA AGAIN HIGHLIGHTS OUR WBC GROUP

For the third consecutive World Baseball Classic, the Millionaires have been drawn with the Stars out of Sarzonia for WBC qualifying. Unlike soccer, where the classic 4-0 victory over the Stars in World Cup 50 knockouts is ranked #1 on the “Secristan Department of Sports’ most commonly purchased game of the past (on their website)”, the Millionaires have not had much success against Sarzonia in baseball. Also in the group are the Allamunnic States, Virabia, Freelasio, Elemanu, Voltronica, and Michael VII. That must be one egotistical dictator to name the entire nation after him, so the team might need to be careful when heading there. Odd things have happened with Elemanu in the World Cup, but we promise you that none of our players will turning into a tasty treat to eat. Sorry, female fans, Jonas Kindlon will not whether you want him to or not. Freelasio is probably the group pushover, along with Michael VII’s chosen players. Virabia can be competitive, and the Allamunnic States create an excellent opportunity for one to piss someone from there off, as all you need to do is call them “Fanboyists”. It’s a pretty interesting group, and should lead to a profitable experience for the SDOS.

The co-hosts out of Tarrentum and Quintessence of Dust have opted to name the groups after corporations, and the Secristan Department of Sports would like to remind both of them that unless these businesses have a presence in Secristan, and that they have paid a fee to the SDOS, there is to be no mention of them within any of our articles. In addition, these companies are not allowed to show their logo at Monopoly Stadium, in any capacity, unless they establish an operating presence in Secristan and pay the fee. SDOS spokeswoman Shannon Carner tells us, and the hosts, “I want to start by commending the hosts for having the intelligence to profit on the ability to name the groups after corporations. That fact alone shows that this will be a very well-hosted event. However, these companies have not established any presence in Secristan, therefore they are not allowed to reveal their logo in any capacity at any Secristani facility, this includes on the uniform, and we will not provide them marketing by allowing them to be named in the press. We will refer to our group as group F.” Carner then adds, “However all these companies are welcomed with open arms in Secristan, they just have to establish a presence. If they begin operations here, then I will allow their names to be mentioned. Though as for allowing their logo to be shown in any capacity, they will need to pay a fee for that.”

The Cosumar Dragons
The WBC 16 Cosumar National Baseball Team

Basic Information

Team name: Cosumar Dragons
Hometown: Ramusok, Cosumar
Team colors: Dark blue and silver
About the team: World Baseball Classic 17 will be the Dragons' second WBC, after a poor debut in WBC 16. The nation is very excited for the event and television ratings of the first game have been predicted to compete very closely with socer events. The staff and team, which you can read more about later on this post, are very optimistic about the team's chances. The squad is very talented but their youth and inexperince may end up hurting them.

Stadiums

Primary Stadium: Orangila Capital Field
Capacity: 55,000

Image

Named after Cosumar's most popular soda "Orangila orange flavored soda", Orangila Capital Field is an enormous indoor baseball complex. In nice whether, the dome's roof will be open, welcoming that traditional sunny-day baseball game feel. However, if it were to rain the roof can be closed as seen in the picture above. Orangila Capital Field was completed 2 years ago and has a capacity of around 55,000. It has been selected to serve as the Cosumar Dragons' primary field for the World Baseball Classic 16.

Secondary Stadium: Royals Park
Capacity: 41,000

Image

Royals Park is a beautiful arena that serves as the home field for the Cosumarite domestic baseball league (PBL) team the Ramusok Royals. Although not as new or fancy as Orangila Field, Royals Park is legendary here in Cosumar. Royals Park is known for its beautiful green class and very cheap food (for stadium food). The Park is about 30 years old so it has decades worth of tradition and amazing moments of Cosumar baseball. This and its large capacity of 41,000 are a few of the reasons why Royals Park has been selected to be Cosumar's secondary stadium for the World Baseball Classic 16. It will serve as an alternate to Orangila Field in case of emergency and every fourth home game will be played here.

Uniform

Image

This year's Cosumar Dragons baseball uniform consists of a dark blue shirt with gray sleeves and gray pants. The hat is dark blue with a gray C in the center of it and the socks are gray with a blue stripe. The number will go in the top right corner of the front of the shirt and in the center on the back. The player's last name will be arched around the number on the back.

Coaching Staff

Manager: Don Clintson

Mr. Clintson is the manager of the Cosumar domestic team, the Centus Bruins. The Centus Bruins won the the PBL 29 (Cosumar's domestic championship) under the direction of Mr. Clintson. Don is 60 years old and loves the game. His players are well disciplined and he is very calm but is not afraid to kick up some dirt if the umpire makes a bad call.

Assistant Manager: Toby Machart

Toby is much younger than Don Clintson. Clinton is only 32 and was a Cosumar domestic baseball legend until a knee injury ended his legacy at age 27. Immediately after recovering he decided to go in to coaching since he couldn't play anymore. At 28, he became the manager of the PBL expansion team, the Olask Bulldogs. He has been at Olask for 3 years and the team has had some success. He was selected to assist Clintson with the WBC 16.

First Base Coach: Rodney Bellums

Bellums was a baseball superstar in college. He was the #1 draft pick into the PBL many years ago. After a few seasons it was clear he was a huge bust, not cut out for the big leagues. After being downgraded to the SBL (minor leagues) and disappointing even at that level, Bellums decided he was done with baseball. He tried an assortment of projects including starting businesses but none were successful. After many years he decided to go back to the game he loved: baseball-but this time as a coach. He is now 42 and is returning to baseball by being the Cosumar Dragons' first base coach for WBC 16.

Third Base Coach: Louis Capenhover

Capenhover is much different than his fellow coaches. He was never really much of a baseball player. He just loved to watch his hometown team-the Ramusok Royals. His enthusiasm for the Royals earned him the spot of bat boy at age 13. He stuck with the job for 5 or 6 years and was mentored in the rules of the game by Don Clintson. When the opening for base running coach came up a few years back-Capenhover was the best for the job. After awhile he continued to move up in the organization. Last year was his first season as Royals third base coach. With Clintson being selected to be the manager, who better to be the third base coach than his protigee Capenhover?

THE WBC 16 NEWMANISTAN ROCKETS

World Baseball Classic 10, 12, 15 Champions.
World Baseball Classic 7, 9, 11, 14 Runners-Up.
The Greatest Nation in WBC History*.

*- Based on the fact that even though there are two other “three-time” champions, neither of them have been to as many finals as we have.

Technical stuff:

Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: No, as my lineup is posted here. Follow that!
Follow my Pitching Rotation: My starting pitcher for the next game will always be announced in my RP from the previous game.
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but only to the extent of saying so and so was injured. I’ll determine the severity
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Eject my players: Yes on a basis of no more then one more then you eject from your own team.
Godmod other events: No, except for weather. That you can.

Additional Information that is very important to me: Newmanistan does not prescribe to the modern day concept of pitch counts determining how long a starting pitcher is kept in for. In fact, pitch counts are not even kept track of outside of curiosity sake. Such count is not displayed on the scoreboard, so if you want to track it for your pitcher, you must do it manually. If Newmanistan has given up 3 runs or less, then the starting pitcher has gone all nine innings. No ifs, ands, or buts. This is true even if it would have been a save situation.
– Another Newmanistan trait is aggressive base stealing. Think back to the days of Vince Coleman and Ricky Henderson in their primes.

Head Coach- Christina Sanders (Southport)
Hitting Coach- Allyson Payne (North Charlotte)
Pitching Coach- Carrie Lynsder (Hampton)

Home Stadium for all Group Stage games will be Pocono City Stadium. The DH is NOT used.

Rotation: (pitchers bat with the same hand the pitch with)
The next wave of starters have taken over now. This could be our rotation for 3 or 4 Classics starting with this one.

1A)Courtney Ratigan (RHP- Olympia)- Given what Courtney has already accomplished in this tournament, it’s hard to believe she is only 25. And unlike Tocrowkia and Taeshan, we do increase our players age by two every tournament. With the international retirement of Sarah Brayton, Courtney is now in the top spot of the rotation and eager to shoulder a greater responsibility. Her strength is the heat, but also has a deadly cutter, slider, and curve.

1B)Jessica Brasfield (RHP- Pocono City)- Like Courtney, Jessica (24) has become very accomplished on the field. The two are best friends off the field, making them compliment one another perfectly on the field, enjoying the fact that the WBC is a rare opportunity for them to be on the same team. Jessica, who loves to trash talk, is predominantly a fastball/curveball pitcher, but you must respect her changeup and slider.

1C) Kaitlyn Ahearn (LHP- Loudon)- Many will argue that the top pitcher for the Rockets in WBC 15 was not Ratigan or Brasfield, but that it was Ahearn, and they wouldn’t be wrong with that as the 27-year old had a great classic. Now, the southpaw who’s best two pitchers are a slider and curve looks to build on that further.

1D) Brittany Castelli (RHP- Fairfield City)- The 22-year old debuted on the WBC 15, and was hot and cold, including being hammered by Tocrowkia in an playoff game. The next day, she came out of the bullpen in extra innings and shut down the Nordics, and did not allow a single run after that. Now, with the experience behind her, the fastball/splitter artist should only get better.

1E) Brianna Bruce (LHP- Springfield)- Brianna is a graduate of both Keisler Cup teams (U-16's in the 1st and U-21's in the 2nd), and now the 22-year old who is a lot like Castelli in terms of her arsenal gets a chance to play on the senior team. She has excelled in the last couple years, and is displaying more and more confidence as the years go by.

Bullpen: (Smaller then most because of the nation’s reliance on starters)

Cassie Herrick (LHP- South Tier)- Cassie is actually a starter with South Tier, but the 25-year old is more then happy to be pitch on the senior team as a reliever. Look for the southpaw, who brings the heat but also a nice cutter and slider, to act as the main long reliever in case a starter needs to be pulled early.

Michelle Harrison (RHP- Centralia)- Michelle is essentially the right handed version of Herrick, though the 30-year old is more experienced. She served as a starter in WBC’s 12 and 13, and starts with the Cougars as well. Like Cassie, when Michelle is used it will be for a 2-3 innings, at least.

Rachel Cosgrove (RHP- Tundra Falls) - Rachel makes her debut in WBC 16, though did appear on our most recent Keisler Cup roster as a starting pitcher. With the Mariners, she does start, so the 22-year old could eat up innings here as well. She will be used likely in middle innings, if needed, or in extra frames.

Set up/Short Relief: Sara Schaefer (RHP- South Tier)- Sara is a versatile pitcher that could pitch in long relief, but will instead be used here. The 29-year old was widely considered our top reliever during WBC 15 as a 7th inning or an extra inning specialist. With the depatures of both Erica Darby and Kristen Collins, Sara is stepping into a bigger role here, but we are more then confident that she will be able to handle it.

Closer: Erica Barrett (LHP- Southport)- Many teams might be a little apprehensive about turning over their closer role to a 21-year old international rookie (though did close for the U-21's in the Keisler Cup), but that is not the case with Erica. She is a hard thrower and mixes in a cutter and splitter to go along with it, and just when you think you might have her figured out, she’ll add a knuckleball just to keep you off balance.

Batting Order: (throws/bats)-:

1) Stacie Meadows- CF (R/S- South Tier)- The 31-year old hasn’t been quite as amazing of a leadoff hitter as Brittany Wright over the course of her career with the Rockets, but that is an unfair comparison for anyone to live up too. Stacie is in her prime and is expected to have a big tournament, and will steal with great frequency.

2) Danielle Scott- LF (R/S- Southport)- The 24-year old makes her third appearance in left field, and is one of those players who won’t hit many over the wall, but she will single/double the opponent to death. It is also not wise for opposing baserunners to test her arm from the outfield.

3)Courtney Weinman- RF (R/R- Tundra Falls)- Courtney was extremely impressive in WBC 15, and possibly the unsung hero of the entire team. The 28 year old hit 6th in the last two Classics, and her rise up in the batting order has as much to do with her great progression as it does the retirement of “The Better” Monroe. One of the top things about Courtney to appreciate is the fact that she doesn’t look like someone who’d be a power hitter based on her physical stature, but she is. She also has a career .348 BA.

4) Meghan Butler- 3B (R/R- Dover City)- With Natalie Monroe now retired from international play, coach Sanders has opted to drop the 30-year old from 3rd in the batting order to the cleanup spot. She has hit at least 45 HR’s in each of the last four seasons in Newmanistan while maintaining a BA of .339 over that period.

5) Kristen Wheeler- SS (R/S- Pocono City)- At 27 years of age, Wheeler now enters her prime and should continue to impress at this level. She has all the tools, hitting for average and power (averages 27 long balls a season), and has a career BA of .467 with runners in scoring position. Don’t forget about her on the basepaths either, or she will steal bases often as well.

6) Rachel Cuyler- 2B (L/L- Tundra Falls)- The daughter of Hall of Fame SS Tara Cuyler did well in her first two chances to start with the senior team. The 22-year old gets it done much like her mother did, which was hitting for average and deceptive power.

7) Julie Sexton- 1B (R/S- Olympia) Sexton is the only newcomer to the starting lineup this year as she replaces Natalie Monroe at first base, however the 23-year old was on our roster as a bench player in WBC15. She’s a similar hitter to Cuyler, though doesn’t have the same kind of power.

8) Jessica Sorenson- C (R/S- Centralia)- At 33, the makes her fourth international appearance. Sorenson is a great behind the plate catcher, but is also a leader on the field. She has a pretty good bat, averaging .305 over the last six seasons.

9) Pitcher
If DH: Courtney Stafford- MI The 19-year old appeared on WBC 15 roster as a bench player after being the cleanup batter on the U-16 team in the first Keisler Cup. Courtney is everything you would want in a middle infielder, someone who hit for average and has a great glove, all with the added bonus of being able to hit the ball of the fence. When the DH is used, Courtney will hit 7th in the batting order. Simply put her there and drop back Sexton and Sorenson.

On the bench: (we have more people here then most only due to our small bullpen. It all evens out.)

Tara Rulison- C- Only to be used as a substitution behind the plate, never to pinch hit.
Brooke McMichael- MI (WBC rookie)
Erica Hilton- CI
Jillian Sanderson- OF
Corinne Gratton- OF
Jessica Larkin- Utility (WBC rookie)

We don't use a DH!

Elemanu is a small island nation of less than two hundred thousand people and baseball is a very minor sport there. All the position players are equally adequate batters, there are only five pitchers in the rotation with no specialties, and two reserves who are jacks of all trades and masters of none.

1. Jessie Lightford Pitcher (the star pitcher of the Barbarians, Jessie (a male) is only 18 and baseball mad)
2. Earlene Cotner Catcher
3. Benita Borchers First Baseman
4. Penelope Keasey Second Baseman
5. Max Murph Third Baseman (and the star batter of the Barbarians, another young-un at 19)
6. Kurt Rosinski Shortstop
7. Guy Velardi Left Fielder
8. Lonnie Veith Centre Fielder
9. Christian Lupien Right Fielder
10. Neva Roseborough Pitcher
11. Tyrone Messana Pitcher
12. Ted Kreutzer Pitcher
13. Benita Quebedeaux Pitcher
14. Allyson Schnieders Reserve
15. Annabelle Brar Reserve

Coach: John Lightford (Jessie's dad and equally baseball mad)
