General Sports Roleplaying Questions (OOC)

Can't find an answer to your question in the Guide to Sports Roleplaying?

Can't find an answer to your question in the World Cup FAQs?

Have a question about something other than scorinators? (Scorinators OOC discussion is here.)

Then this is the place to ask. If you have a question about how something works in Sports RP that isn't covered elsewhere, just let you question roam free in here and someone knowledgeable should answer it. If your question is about a specific sport, it may have an OOC discussion thread already, so look out for those, too.

A scorinator is a program or spreadsheet that generates scores for NS sports tournaments. Usually either created in Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice, or written in a programming language such as Java, it creates random scorelines based (usually) on a team's rank, playing style (either offensive or defensive) and occasionally any roleplay bonus.

'Scorinate' on NSwiki and the World Cup FAQs section on How are scores generated? may help explain in a little more detail.

How can I get Leagion?

To be honest I don't think Leagion is supported any more. Most leagues and even World Cups run on NSFootySim, of which the most-recent one can be downloaded directly from here (a .zip file)

I clicked on the link, and I saved it. Will it work now? If so, how?

Hello? What more, can we edit it to include more sports and more clubs?

The program runs from the NSFootySim.jar file, assuming you have some form of Java-capability on your computer. Open the sample_cup.xml or the sample_input.xml files to see how they work - instructions and comments are given in the files themselves. With a little bit of trial and error it's fairly obvious.

NSFootySim only runs with football/soccer score generation, but you can make it run your own leagues and cups with your own teams (or other people's) by editing the input xml files, as described above. Hope that helps.

Can we have a link to the World Cup FAQ, so we can potentially avoid needless questions?

I'm having trouble with NSFootySim. It says that there is an XML parsing error. What is an XML parsing error, and what can I do to fix it?

Hi. As a general note, please don't worry if you don't get answers right away--people will come along.

An XML parsing error is a problem with an input file in NSFS or similar programs. I sometimes will have small typos, like a <t/eam> when I should have </team>. It's often a good idea to try and go back and read your file very carefully, making sure all of the tags are exactly correct.

I've seen this. And there's nothing wrong with the applications.

If only I had the skill to make a VBa program for a NSFS skin...

I might actually look into that when I have the time for it...

If you want to pick a "national sport" for IC purposes or wiki-editing, just choose one! There's nothing official about it.

'Any' excel scorinator for 'any' sport doesn't really help us to help you either, tbh. What sort of sport will yo be scorinating?
