I know how to use Xkoranate but how do I use the table generator? I want to sim a hockey league, would there be a way to automate the scheduling and table generating like football leagues in NSFS?

Yes, as long as you set your league up as a round-robin rather than individual matches. You only need to use the table generator in xkoranate if you're scheduling your league/tournament manually. Otherwise, xkoranate takes care of that. What it doesn't do is handle the knockout rounds of a tournament, a cup competition, the 3 game series round robin format, Casaran or any other format besides round robin. Those require you to handle scheduling and table generation manually.

On those lines, why would anyone use manual table generating unless they were using the three-game series format or something odd like that? Is there any real advantage to it? I never quite got why people did it that way.

I only use the table generator for mid-season tables, because I scorinate the season in full.

But if you're using xkoronate, couldn't you just go back to Day 15 (or whatever) and copy the table?

I haven't been very active lately, but still trying to get an RP per day up. I've never been in so many concurrent tournaments and now the World Bowl is also starting up, is there a reason for so many things at the same time (WBC, IBC, Twenty20, AOCAF, World Bowl)?

I'm working on starting a sports RP with heavy roleplaying aspects instead of the usual format. It would be about a team for U-21 players to go and develop before moving on to bigger teams, and players could RP the players they send, who would be living in a big boarding school type building together. Would this be better in NS Sports or Nationstates?

I just wanted to drop in and say that I've always been impressed with the fun, the writing, and dear lord, the coordination and detail that you folks here in sports have in your RP's. I have wanted to try something out /for years/, given I play a rather Italian sort of nation, and hey, football, but even though you have wonderful guides and great threads to look to for examples, the work of getting a team together for things, especially when I am no authority on the rules, and fans, and ins and outs of it all, has always been a bit daunting.

And sometimes, it's just fun to lurk and read, admittedly. I'll have to see if I can pull something decent together at some point. Maybe even, with some support of more experienced players, host an event - call it a charity competition or some such, outside the usual league ladders. I've got plenty of experience with RP and working with large groups of players - just never used a scorinator or the like. :)

In any case, thank you to those who've voiced invites and such. I can't do anything as yet, but the welcome was very much appreciated. Keep up the fun writing enjoy the play. That's the point of it all, neh?

I've been in a sports RP region for 9 years (and counting!) this month and my RP strategy still involves hoping I can convert the thoughts in my head into words, sentences, and paragraphs before they obliterate themselves. :)

Using a scorinator for the first time is like using any other program the first time (I remember the first time I used Netscape Navigator for example). After not too long it becomes second nature. I'm an xkoranate shill because it doesn't require extra runtimes and it runs so many events. Some find it difficult to learn (I didn't) and I still stand on what I've said previously that UICA tournaments are the easiest tournaments to enter: the RPs can be as large or small as you like.

As far as hosting goes, I'm sure getting signups from us wouldn't be difficult, and there's always RPers who come back from hiatuses as soon as NSWC Signups close. And there's also always non soccer/association football tournaments that can be run at virtually any time.

And, should you face a team named SC Oceanside, yes Xi Foureleven is really as cold IC to her opponents as admonishing "inb4thelock" message board posters. :D

World Mixed Martial Arts Tournament

Postby Halfblakistan » Tue Sep 15, 2015 12:26 am

Would anyone with experience be interested in co-running an international MMA tournament? I didn't see one by scanning the forum and would be interested in co-sponsoring it with someone. Telegram me if you're down.

There have been at least two, that I know of in the past, using very different methods... ANSF and GAAF. The sport tends not to have widespread support though, so it might be worth gauging interest first.

If it's something you intend to do regardless of interest, that's cool. I'm always interested in participating if one comes up. Honestly I don't really have time for running something like this myself (at least not at the moment), but if you want to bounce ideas off me or whatever, I'm cool with that, just shoot me a TG.

I run a MMA promotion on NS sports so I'd be interested for sure but I'm not really good with scoring things outside of NSFS, I'm still figuring stuff out with xkoranate :/

So, 'bout that. Once upon a time, there was this guy named Adun that had ANSF. It ran decently enough, but eventually it closed down due to lack of interest. Obviously, xkoranate doesn't have a MMA tab and all, but this thing here did the trick. It's not hard to work around with, if I recall.

Given the nature of how MMA fights tend to be scored in RL, you may be better off using the Boxing option.

Unfortunately, the boxing option is based on the (pre-Rio) Olympic boxing scoring system, not the one used in professional boxing and MMA (which will also be used in the Olympics starting next year). There is no existing scorinator, to my knowledge, that supports the must-10 scoring system.
