Hello, Islas del Sol here. Well, I wanna set up a domestic league. Actually, I posted my domestic newswire already, since I saw many of them. The problem is that I don't know where to begin. Is it just a matter of creating teams and players? Or it is more complex than just that?

You can be as detailed as you want. Obviously you'll need to pick a sport, or sports if you want more than one, for your, league create names for teams, and scorinate the season. That's the bare minimum you'll need to do.

Hi, Islas Del Sol!

First of all, thanks for asking how to get started around here!

The only things required by the most popular scorinators is the sport (obviously), a team name (which can be as simple as the city name if you just want to get things started), and a skill rating. Some sports RPers add things like logos, uniforms, detailed rosters, etc., but they're not required.

As for what sports are played domestically in your nation, that's totally up to you. If you'd like to RP that a niche sport in real life is larger than life in your nation, by all means feel free to do so. If there's an international domestic competition for the sport, the first post of the thread usually describes how to sign up for it (or contains instructions on how to sign up).

Also, since these go hand in hand, be sure to watch for open sign-up threads for international competitions. Some of them fill up fast and at moments' notice.

Good luck and possibly see you in the stadium!

To my knowledge, there aren't any domestic newswires for triathlon or badminton.

And to add to Saintland, as always, you should use the search function before asking where to find threads.

I have been observing for the past month NS Sports, and have signed up for the World Cup and Baptism of Fire as I've read they are preferred for first time posters of NS Sports. However though despite searching I haven't been able to a link to download xkoranate, could some one point me towards it. Then of course i'll be asking questions on how to use it. :)

I am planning on starting a tennis team, but what would be a good name. What are some trends they tend to follow without being generic?

This nation does reflect my IRL views unless something is more interesting to differ from what I believe otherwise. For example, Welskerland is a constitutional monarchy, while I prefer a republic IRL.

If it's for a national team, it would be "Welskerland national tennis team" or something along the lines of that. Or just be simple and go with whatever town/city/area it's in, i.e "Sampleton Tennis Club" or "Sampleton TC".

Mentoring

Postby Greater Caledon » Wed Oct 22, 2014 12:34 pm

Is there a mentoring system for Football/Soccer Role Playing?

It seems to be a bit of a minefield for someone who has never Role Played

Some help/guidance would be appreciated!

There is no official mentoring system per se, however there is the lovely Guide to Sports Roleplaying, as well as an extensive community of friendly and welcoming users who will be thrilled to help you start RPing. Currently, signups are about to close for the World Cup and Baptism of Fire (a tournament specifically for newcomers to the forum), though there are a plethora of events and tournaments in every major world sport, and many minor ones.

This isn't an RP question as such, but it does impact all of NS Sports, so this seemed to be the best thread in which to raise the point....

The moderation team are considering starting an "NS Sports Chat Thread" for informal OOC chat between NS Sports participants.

Pro: Would lessen the amount of slightly spammy chat posting that sometimes takes place in the larger event discussion threads (especially the WCDT)

Con: Might discourage some of the less spammy friendly banter that helps build a sense of community in event discussion threads

I thought I would open this up for comment by the entire NS Sports community before making a final decision - so have at it... Is this something you'd like to see?

I am 100% in favor of a NS Sports Chat Thread. Honestly, I'm surprised no one thought of this sooner.

That Con is not really a Con, as the sense of community built by an entire thread devoted to friendly banter would more than compensate for what was lost by tightening up the discussion threads. Just my two cents.

I'm in favour of it. The amount of off topic posts, especially in the WCDT, has been rising of late, and this could combat that as well as helping (not hindering IMO) a sense of community.

Because at least someone should have a contrary opinion... I'm not a huge fan.

There are plenty of chat-options around, whilst the less spammy friendly banter (copyright: the Arch) would disappear.

Edit: just read the two last days of the WCDT. And I'm shamelessly changing opinion - with the hope that the small banter (two mocking posts back and forth about a fluky result) would still be allowed in the WCDT but the long chitchatting banned.

I'm conscious that we don't necessarily want to change existing practice just because Red Blackiland and Estenia couldn't quite grasp what TGs are for, but that conversation did suggest that there might be a call for a chat thread if one were made.

I would be my intent to still permit event-specific banter. So a couple of banterish WCDT posts about RP themes or scores in a WCC event would likely be fine, but long discussions like the one Red Blackiland and Estenia were having would take place in the chat thread.

Also OOC RP announcements like "I'm offering a collaborative NS Olympics RP opportunity" or "Juan Tzimisces and Margaret are dating" [ahem] would still belong in the discussion threads since they help to build RP for specific events, and wouldn't usually be of interest to individuals not participating in those events.

In favour of this. Regarding the last couple of pages of the WCDT, it seems like it could be a perfect place to continue that sort of chat.

My only worry would be that some of the 'banter' would leave the WCDT and would cause it to occasionally slide back a few pages, when it should really remain on the front page. Perhaps it could be stickied?
