Thanks to The Babbage Islands for putting these schedules together.

The first day of scorination will be early Wednesday morning, around 4:00 UTC for all groups (late Tuesday in parts of North America). Matchdays will be about 24 hours apart, with a bye day between the group and the knockout stages.

Rosters

Please post a roster, or list of players on your team, to help other teams RP against you.

With your roster, please include a style modifier, a number ranging from -5 to 5. This shows whether your team is more focused on attack or defense; teams with high (positive) modifiers will both score more and give up more goals, relatively speaking, while teams with very negative modifiers will tend to score and concede less. If you do not post a modifier or a roster, this will default to zero.

You should also give RP permissions to your opponents, letting them know whether, for instance, they can roleplay about injuries to your players, give your players yellow or red cards, or "godmod" (roleplay in a very unrealistic way).

For examples of information to include in rosters, you can look through the roster thread for the previous World Cup. One sample of a permissions box is:
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers Y/N
Godmod scoring events Y/N
Roleplay injuries to my players Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players Y/N
Hand out yellow cards to my players Y/N
Hand out red cards to my players Y/N
Godmod other events Y/N

Just choose which of these your opponents can or cannot do RPing against you. For more information about these specific labels, check out this link in the World Cup FAQs.

Roleplaying

The Baptism of Fire emphasizes roleplaying--writing posts about individual matches or the tournament as a whole. Roleplays, or RPs, could be anything from news articles about a game your team just played to your manager's halftime talks. RPing does not guarantee success, but it will increase your chances of doing well.

So You've been Drawn into Virabia: A Guide for teams and fans in the 39th Baptism of Fire
by Jamie Krutz of The Vonghurst Star

Ok, to begin Virabia is renowned for two things. One, it's natural beauty, it's socialism and it's "laws on vegetarianism". First that was three things and second what laws are you asking about, well in Virabia vegetarianism is mandatory and this law WILL be enforced on all BoF competitors, human or otherwise. Ok with that out of the way, let us introduce you to the various parts of Virabia. Starting first with the people and their heritage.

History

Hundreds of years ago, there were an outcast group of Spanish speaking people, fleeing from an unknown land for an unknown reason. However, we do know that they did journey for 10 years before finally landing an island soon to be named Terra Esperanto, this island would eventually become home to Virabia. However, through much of it's history the island was divided and many wars were fought and only in the past 100 years did the (at that time) three Virabi States (Tropaia, North Virabia and Archistan) become members of the Virabi confederacy. 20 years later the modern day UDR Virabia was formed. However, the scars of the past still remain, ruins dot the landscape however, they are now covered mostly by trees and only now are the Esperantos (Virabi Spanish Speaking people) gaining recognition of both Spanish as a language and as the founders of the country. Still the country has made many strides and is now one of the if not the most peaceful country.

Just how peaceful is it? Well, the is no real millitary. Ok, well there are private contractors but, they mostly handle Coast Guard duties.

Population Statistics

Population: 20,000,003
% Male: 50.1%
% Female: 49.9%
% Under-18: 15 %
% 18-35: 35%
% 35-65: 30%
% Over-65: 20%
% Rural: 25%
% Urban: 75%

Life Expectancy

Male: 95.3
Female: 94.2

Apparently demographics aren't what my editor was thinking. So, I'll stop here before it gets too...uuh...boring for you.

(People usually are active right up until the reaper comes knocking)

Stadiums

15 Stadiums will be used in the Virabi Region. They range from architectural marvels to a football pitch with a few stands.

An Introduction to where you will be playing

Maple Leaf Group
Stadiums:
Uberstaadion
Bayview Arena
Estadio Norte del Vonghurst
Schoellkopf Field

Cities you'll be in:
Vonghurst
Ithaca

So, you've had the luck to be drawn into the groups playing in Vonghurst and Ithaca. Which in my opinion is one of the better places to be drawn into. The area tends to have a good mix of cultural diversity and natural beauty. The cities are both on the water and are near some low lying hills which add to the beauty.

Also, connoisseurs of wine and weed will be very pleased, as Ithaca lies in the heart of the Virabi Wine Region and the southern tip of the Weed Belt. Also worth mentioning is that both these cities are home to prestigious universities that are at the forefront of academic and scientific progress in all fields.

Either way, if culture, nature and pot is your calling both teams and fans will enjoy themselves in the Virabi Capitol as well as in Ithaca.

EXPECTED WEATHER: Sunny, High-Teens Centigrade, few clouds. Perfect footballing conditions.
Beaver Group

Stadiums:
James H. Flannigan Stadium
Mortingham Civil Sports Complex
Seaview Stadium
Mountiarena
Lobos Stadium

Cities You'll Be in
Charleston
Mortingham
Laufston
Breckridge
Portsham

The way the organizers have ended up planning things out, matches for the Beaver Group will take place all over the country. However, Breckridge aside, most of the areas that you will be in lie on the West/North Coast of Virabia, which is home to the colder, rougher seas and harsher conditions. During summer, the tall pine tree covered mountains of the Arch are often blanked by fog, and in winter a thick blanket of snow covers the region, which makes for good skiing and horrible roads.

Luckily, it's summer and that means those visiting will not have to deal with the difficulties that winter brings. They will also get to enjoy a plethora of outdoor activities when their team is not taking to the pitch and for those visiting Charleston, the heart of Bud Country is only a 2-3 hour drive away.

All and all, players and fans should enjoy their time in this part of Virabia and if they can get past the relatively bland cuisine and the rain they will see the area for it's true beauty.

NOTE to those in Portsham: Portsham is a little different than this. It's much like Vonghurst but with colder waters and more rain. So, please if your going to Portsham, don't expect all of the things listed above, as Portsham lies near the Northern Plains.

EXPECTED WEATHER: For Charleston, much like that of the Maple Leaf Group Cities, hotter+drier inland.

Everywhere else: Wet. Almost every day will have at least one rain shower. It will also pretty much always be cloudy. Temp: low-mid teens C.

Grupo Costa Misqual

Stadiums
Azul Coast Stadium
The Alamo
The Stadium at the Bay
Estadio Atalanta

Cities You'll Be in
Atalanta
Milford-by-the-bay
Southham
Knoxham

You lucky bastard. Costa Misqual is among the most beautiful regions of Virabi. It's the perfect mix of sandy beaches, fertile farmland and a rich, vibrant multi cultural scene that is topped off by a terrific jazz-fusion scene, spicy food and a festival almost every week and to be honest, for the players, it's almost a shame that they have to play here, as they will not have the time to enjoy all the things this region has to offer.

Do note that some of this region lies right in the heart of the Spanish-speaking part of Virabia and while English will be able to do you well, not everyone will speak the greatest English. This is especially true in Southham where the city has adopted Spanish as it's official language.

Still, if beaches, culture and good food is your forte, you will enjoy your time on Costa Misqual and might just wish you didn't have to spend your time in a football stadium.

EXPECTED WEATHER: Mild to hot, mid-high 20's. However you will be cooled by a cool maritime breeze. It WILL be sunny.

Branta Group

Stadiums
War Memorial Stadium
Galaxy View Park

Cities You'll Be in
Beaverbury, Anglorcia
Freeville

While Beverbury may not be in Brantaland, they will play host to Branta Group matches and is (to be honest) pretty similar to Branta Land. In terms of what there is to do there, it's much like the West Coast of the mainland, rainy and mountainous but, there are less people and more wildlife, to the point where if you leave a town you may very well find a bear crossing the road in front of you.

Still, the areas are quaint, and have a homely appeal that some people go for. Also, if you are in Brantaland, beware of the waterfowl. They are dangerous and like most things Rushmori are certifiably insane.

WEATHER TO EXPECT: Wet. Almost every day will have at least one rain shower. It will also pretty much always be cloudy.

(The booklet then goes on to more details about Virabia as well as logistical details.)

¡Bienvenidos a Aguazul!

As you might guess from clicking the blue and green flag, Aguazul is a corrupt military dictatorship. Economic freedom is about the only kind there is, here, despite an obsession with calling ourselves a republic. The government would like to keep a tighter hold on the population, but is too busy fighting doomed wars to actually enforce all its laws.

Most sane people, for very good reason, would not want to visit here. However, the government is legitimately trying to be welcoming to new teams, even if they will be called commies/monarchists/other things behind their backs, and won't hold visitors to quite so many laws as they expect from their citizens. Don't commit any violent crimes, but the government has given its word not to arrest foreigners for being strange so long as they leave when the tournament's all done.

Punto, a road company, has subsidized free use of its roads for all teams during the tournament. The majority of Aguazul's major cities make up what's known as the "Supercentro" in the south of the country. The inner cities themselves are pretty dangerous, and it's somewhat safer out in the exburbs, which have all merged by now. Three of the four groups will all be in the Supercentro, and the stadia to be used have been divided by proximity (see map). Group Wejibo, on the other hand, will play in Trecelunas, Grisolon, and Sanube, all of which are farther north and outside the Supercentro.

The naming rights for Aguazul's groups were put up for auction. The winners for each group all sponsor nearby teams whose fields aren't being used to host games.

Grupo Bancorpo (east Supercentro)
Estadio Moacom, Arcrés (55,500). Looks even bigger than it is because the seats slant upwards so slowly. Bigger-than-average supply of food and souvenir stalls, too.
Estadio Cinilago, Ciruelas (25,000) Much of Aguazul may be a desert now, but some parts are still a tropical rainforest. Ciruelas is plenty urban, but the chances of rain are pretty high here.
Estadio Sobresa, Ciudagua (48,000) Most of what other nations would call "culture" is called "illegal commie propaganda" in Aguazul. But if you need some guitar music praising the virtues of the republic, Ciudagua is the place to be.

Grupo Wejibo (non-Supercentro)
Estadio Arcadio, Sanube (36,000) Sanube's not a bad place to be. Just...try not to fall in the uranium mines, and we'll all be fine.
Estadio Taturgo, Trecelunas (45,000) The home fans will be less obsessed with high-scoring games than in Aguazul's other host cities; not that they mind goals if they see them, but they can appreciate low-scoring draws, too.
Estadio NioRadio, Grisolon (40,000) Great fans here; not very violent, but will make plenty of noise.

Grupo Aeroeste (west Supercentro)
Estadio Aramis Peralta, Ciudad Peralta (68,000) Named after the national "libertador". Full of fans who really, really love setting stuff on fire.
Estadio Conabora, San Pablo (50,000) San Pablo is one of Aguazul's oldest cities, and was its capital under colonial rule. Today, its growth is relatively stagnant, but it's still the third-largest city in the country.
Estadio Cochaucho, Ciudad Peralta (25,000) Ciudad Peralta is our capital now, and also the biggest city in the country.

Grupo Sanboto (southeast Supercentro)
Parque Parrar, Condadore (30,000) Condadore is known for having lots of upsets. There aren't any clear favorites in the Baptism of Fire, of course, but fans will always be on edge for a surprise.
Estadio Paridos, Mapabore (34,000) The site of Globe Cup final for professional football teams several seasons ago. Football association people assume Aguazul's citizens are mature enough to host more games successfully.
Centro Deportivo Nacional, Blén (33,000) Is not, in fact, particularly central for sports in the nation. But don't tell the fans, they're very proud of it.

For more information about Aguazul, check out our NSWiki article. If you have questions about Aguazul or roleplaying in general, send me a telegram; I'd like to make this as fun an experience for you as possible. Good luck!

Hey. This is a semi-serious nation (despite the flag), which operates on the ideals of libertarian municipalism and Communalism. I don't RP though (at least not currently), and you'll probably only see me on Forum 7 or General.

Veteran of the site for 7 years (yes, I lied about my age, bc I was too precocious for my own good).

Pro: Libertarian socialism (social anarchism), Communalism, social ecology, religious freedom, rights for each and every LGBT individual everywhere, equality, feminism, Dubcek, Marxism.
Anti: Oppression, capitalism, state/church intermingling, Marxist-Leninism, Maoism, fundamentalism, creationists.

Baptism of Fire 39 To Begin Soon!

The group draw for this year's Baptism of Fire was today made, with New Palmerston drawn into "Group Wejibo" along with Iron Coast, Bluth Corporation, The Samson Islands, Bryan Ruiz and Listanbul. The point of the Baptism of Fire is to be an entry competition for nations preparing to enter into the World Cup for the first time, with this year's event being held in Aguazul and Virabia. With New Palmerston drawn into an Aguazul group, the team are highly anticipating the event, hoping for a great deal of success.

We can now confirm the squad going to the Baptism of Fire.

We can now go to an interview with the national manager, Brandon Holmes.

REPORTER: Mr. Holmes, Johnathan Murry of the New Palmerston Star. How do you feel going into this competition?

BH: Very ambitious. The team has gelled well, and we're working together excellently. I've got a feeling that with this team, we can go far. Of course, we've never played the national teams of any of the other nations, but I think that we have an excellent team.

REPORTER: Mr. Holmes, Brian Russell of the New Palmerston Times. Do you mind revealing the captain for the tournament?

BH: Yes, I've selected Dylan Moore, the Center Back as Captain. He's a strong, intelligent, well-rounded player who can bring much to the team, and he is a clear natural leader.

REPORTER: Mr. Holmes, William Davies of the New Palmerston Telegraph. How far do you think that the team will go in this competition?

BH: Well, we clearly have the expectations of the whole nation on our backs, but I honestly believe we can go far. If we play hard, perform well and do our job, I honestly believe that there is no reason that we cannot win this competition. These are an excellent group of players, and I think we can win.

The New Palmerstonian Schedule is as follows:

MATCHDAY 1
vs. The Samson Islands (Estadio Taturgo)
MATCHDAY 2
vs. Bluth Corporation (Estadio NioRadio)

The Arteviaz Times - SQUAD INTERVIEWS

9 July, Nikolaivias City, Arteviaz -- The Arteviazi national football team has gathered at their training ground in Nilolaivias City for their final training sessions prior to departure for its first ever taste of tournament football - the 39th incarnation of the Baptism of Fire.

Team manager Vincennit Beauregardermoen was in an upbeat mood this morning, remarking, "I'm confident, and it's running high through the squad. We are very optimistic as a team, and we want to make a name for ourselves on the international football stage. I think we're in a great position to do just that."

Asked about his team's realistic chances at the Baptism of Fire, he answered, "I really do think we'll do well. The guys have been training well, and I think if we just keep our heads level and play the way we want to play, we have a as good a chance as any other team in the competition. We are confident, we will be respectful, but we will have no fear. That is the Arteviazi way of football."

Beauregardermoen has recently been under fire for the shock inclusion of midfielder Koevens Kapoutas, who is still lacking full fitness after a hamstring injury suffered while playing for his club team, Klivviarns. The gaffer isn't worried about his player, though: "It's no issue, I don't think. I've spoken with his club doctors, and we've also been advised by the national team physios, and we're all confident that Koevens will be match fit for the opening game next week."

The midfielder himself added, "[My leg] been feeling much better the last couple weeks, and I've been training with the rest of the squad, so I don't foresee any issues. I'm honored to be in the 23 [man squad], and if Vincennit calls on me to play, I am ready to get up and go."

Team captain Brunobo Babalava was also confident and ready to compete. The towering central defender told us, "This is a massive opportunity for our team and our country, and we all want to do Arteviaz proud. The whole country's watching, and we'd love nothing more than to win our opening match and get some momentum going."

Meanwhile, 22-year-old playmaker Dekkelen Demmigen couldn't contain his excitement. "I'm just thrilled to be able to be part of this historic occasion. Our first international tournament...it's exciting stuff." Arteviaz's number ten went on: "People talk about the pressure we're under, and I've got to say, well yeah, in competitive sport there's always pressure to win, but honestly, I want to keep things in perspective too. We're just playing football. I want to think of it as nothing more than the games I'd play with my friends as a kid. Just go out there and have fun."

The Arteviazis are expected to make the seven-hour flight to Virabia tomorrow evening.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers Y
Godmod scoring events Y
Roleplay injuries to my players Y, please let me determine severity
Godmod injuries to my players N
Hand out yellow cards to my players Y, within reason
Hand out red cards to my players Y, within reason

RP permissions: Do whatever you like. Just try not to kill off my team. Seriously, having fun is encouraged [pants are still optional ;) ] and the more odd the games, the more interesting they are.

The Orange-Blues of Rejistania

Team colors: well... guess!

Nicknames: Orange-Blues, Junis-Omeh['he]'ny, inofficially: those slani karelans ;) For historical reasons you might occasionally hear the term 'transnationals' or 'transregionals' for the team.

Some information about Rejistania: While the country is not new to the world cup, the nation disappeared from the political and sports-related landscape [and appeared on the advertisements of humanitarian aid companies] for a while. Rejistanis still do not like to talk about the first and the second Grand Blamage, but the names already told you how these wars ended for the country. Now, that the country is in a state again which does not make people think of 'third world' immediately, the Asene'het sekhika rejistaniha (the rejistanian soccer association) was re-founded and now a new national team competes again.
In the country, the language Rejistanian is national language. OOCly, it is a constructed language. My signature has more information about it in case anyone is interested. If you need a translation for your RP, feel free to TG me.

Some linguistic information: the demonym for Rejistania is either rejistanian or rejistani. Slani is a curse word. And System Karela means a very defensive tactic.

"Welcome to The Football Show on ABC One. I'm Ken Blackstone. With the Baptism of Fire Tournament about to start, the Asteran Football Association made their 23 man roster public today. The announcement was made at the AFA office at Austin Square, where manager Neil Markham explained his selections to the assembled media."

"Our team is designed around attacking, and I wanted to show that in the make-up of the roster and in our 4-3-3 formation. I think that I have made the best selections for the team. Obviously, there are some players that are playing on the Olympic team that we wanted, but I think that their replacements are more than capable of taking on the world."

"To help analyze the roster, let's bring in Emile Rudd and Albert Fox to get their opinion on the team. First, let's talk about goalkeepers."

GK: Joel Thatcher (Kirano FC)
GK Sub: Tim Green (Mara United FC)
GK Sub: Jameson Deville (Richmond FC)

"Obviously, Thatcher is the number one keeper in the country. But what about the other guys? Emile, what do you think?'

"Well, with Edgar Hickson playing in the Olympics, you lose a great keeper. But I think that Green would be a great replacement if Thatch goes down. Remember the League Cup final? Green faced fifteen shots on goal that night and saved them all with some fantastic play. He deserves to be on this team. Even if Hickson was on the team, I think that he would be behind Green for that reason."

"I agree, Emile. Tim is a great player for United and I think that he has earned his spot. Deville is a worry for me, but if both keepers go down, I think there are worse problems for the team than goalkeepers. Thatcher should be starting though, without question."

"Alright, now on to defenders. Neil has chosen to play four at the back, and here they are."

RB: Lucas Eschenfeld (Balmora FC)
CB: Marcus Heller (Bristol FC)
CB: Andrew Gallen (Mara United FC) (c)
LB: Jerome Collard (Port Essen FC)
DF Sub: Greg Dugan (Mara United FC)
DF Sub: Eric O'Hanlon (Kirano City FC)
DF Sub: William Hudson (Newcastle FC)
DF Sub: Scott McConnell (Archona FC)

"I like the selection of Collard and O'Hanlon in the team. What about you, Al?"

"Well, its a fairly standard line at the back. Collard is a bit of a surprise, but this previous season proved all his doubters wrong, including myself. The subs look good, but I think that a few players could have gotten the nod over McConnell. I would have taken Baldwin if he wasn't playing in the Olympics."

"I think he was picked because he's got a strong left foot."
"Good point, Emile."
"Thanks. I like the defense that he picked because he is obviously catering to their strengths. He picked a group of guys who may not be the most skilled players out there, but they are hard to break down. Most of those guys were on the season's Best XI, weren't they?"
"I think so."
"Yeah, so he's picked players who are tough and willing to get in there and break down attacks with force. Gallen, though, is the finesse player in that line. He's also the captain, which shows that Markham is willing to stick with him and not change before the tournament starts."

"Just checking on that, Emile, the defensive selections were all in the Best XI from last season. Alright, now to the playmakers in midfield. Neil has put three in the middle; here they are."

RM: Bradley Clinton (Kirano FC)
CM: Tim Billings (Lincoln United FC)
LM: Samuel Valtaoja (Kapi FC)
MF Sub: Owen Hamilton (Artis FC)
MF Sub: James Benoit (Kars FC)
MF Sub: Max Hunter (Valmiera Athletic FC)

"Emile, you're a former midfielder. What do you think about the choices?"

"I really like these guys. I covered a few Lincoln matches during the season and I saw Billings play. He has some of the best touch I have ever seen from a player and he can cross a ball almost perfectly. He will be a good complement to the guys on the wings, who are impressive in their own right. The only trouble I can see is that Clinton plays in a four midfield set at Kirano, so he may have a little trouble switching to a three man middle."

"I don't think it'll be too much trouble, Emile. Kirano played a few matches with three in the middle after Robert Clark went down with a broken leg, so he has experience there. Valtaoja is a great selection because he is deadly with free kicks. He led the league in free kick goals last year and I think that he'll bag a few during the tournament."

"Alright guys, let's move on to the strikers that have been selected. Three men up front for the Blue Lions; let's see them."

RW: Thomas Petersen (Kesse FC) (vc)
ST: David Ryman (Artis FC)
LW: Victor van Serval (Kirano FC)
FW Sub: Paavo Keskisalo (Kapi FC)
FW Sub: Liam Donaldson (Newcastle FC)
FW Sub: Brian O'Gara (Bristol FC)

"All of the starters were among the top goalscorers in the league last season, but I think they'll miss Parkhurst, who is playing in the Olympics. What do you think, Al?"

"I like it. These guys are the top scorers for a reason. They know how to get to the ball and create space for themselves, and they know how to finish with a goal. I like Ryman's selection in particular because he has the most powerful header I've seen. Set pieces should create a number of goals for the team."

"I think that they will miss Parkhurst on the team. He has the ability to get out into the open and draw defenders to him. Petersen doesn't really have that ability. He can shoot and he is a great taker of free kicks and corners, but when it comes to making space Petersen is not as good as he could be. I do like van Serval on the team, though. That young man has been fantastic for the Kirano youth teams and scored on his debut with the first team. He won the Super League Golden Boot last year at the age of 22. He is good. I think that he will have a great tournament."

"I think so too, Emile. The group that Asteran has been drawn into is the Beaver Group in the Virabia Region. The Blue Lions will face off against The New Caribbean, Birnadia, Scalietti, Ravnalis, and Elemanu. Each team will face the other five and the top four teams will advance out of the group to the knockout stage. Can the Blue Lions make it out, guys?"

"I think they can. The team may be in their first true international competition, but they will perform well. The team can't be focusing on the later stages of the tournament. It's a cliche, but they have to take it one game at a time. Making it through the group stage should be the main goal. After that, they should just focus on each match as it comes."

"Sounds like what a coach would say, Al. But, it's true. You can't be thinking about lifting the trophy during a group stage match. It's good to have confidence, but being overconfident will hurt you. They just have to focus on the now and not the later. Take the tournament 90 minutes at a time, don't worry about a loss in the group stage, and just try to make it to the Round of 32. Believe me, I know what can happen if you don't focus on now. I've got enough second place medals to prove that."

"Alright, thanks guys. We'll be back tomorrow with interviews with the players and coaches, as well as previews from Virabia with our guys on the ground there. For Emile Rudd and Albert Fox, I'm Kevin Blackstone. Up next is Hamilton vs. Kingston on Friday Night Footy. Enjoy the game."

It was not long after the draw was announced that the organizers of the 39th Baptism of Fire received a letter in the mail, whose return address was apparently from Amserica. It was written in Amserican and thus rather diffcult to decipher however it was clear from the letterhead that it was from the Amserići Fútibol Asósaź and that what was a list of seemingly weird paired up words were in fact names. It had an explanation in Amserican before the list of names which was as follows:

KOÝAR, Strom
YRĆTAR, Ayel
SĆULZ, Ýose
SOUKUP, Kliment
ÝANECEK, Zebuluń
BROZ, Eyen
SIMEK, Kamil

NEUMANN, Otik
NAÝRATIL, Kamil
TIĆI, Zelotes
MASEK, Karel
BLÁ, Radek
CEĆ, Branimir
KASPAR, Ota

KRECI, Branislay
STEPANEK, Ýio
NAÝMAN, Mikolas
MAĆACEK, Zemaria
KOYARIK, Branimir
SKALA, Oldrić

SKALA, Damek
NEUMANN, Anus
BERAN, Ota

Looking after the list, they found a very, very cryptic block of text:

Select my scorers: N
Give out yellow cards to my players: Y
Give out red cards to my players: N
RP injuries to my players: Y
Godmod injuries: N
Godmod scoring events: N
Godmod other events: N

Style Modifier: +1
Formation: 4-3-3

This all seemed very strange to the organizers however, feeling that it was only appropriate, they decided to put it with the well organized and less strange rosters of the competition. It was good to know that the Amserican team would hopefully be playing.

((OOC: Please note the order of players is is goalies, defensemen, midfield and then forwards. Starting 11 are bold. The two neumanns are unrelated but the Skalas are brothers but Damek is rather old... despite his brother playing, he is unlikely to be substituted in. Yes this is a roster/RP depending how you want to look at it.))

Bass-Holes is a nation that mostly consists of mutated sea-life that look like humanoid, but are in fact fish. But they are in AGUAZUL to prove that fishoids can play soccer. These 18 fish have decided to begin the eventual domination of the land by conquering the Baptism of Fire. While humanoid in appearance, the inhabitants of Bass-holes do retain the unique abilties and weaknesses of the fish they are decended from. Other than the ability to breathe air and walk on land, Bass-holians are still just basically fish.

RP Permission: Eh, go nuts. I'm not overly attached to the association football side or any of its players or supporters :)
I hope it's okay to have only twenty players, if nothing else this is supposed to emphasise Beddgelert's shortage of association footballers and abject inexperience with the game. If I must have three more, I'll probably throw in some semi-retired hockey players or something!

Y Bardos Reports- Beddgelert prepares to take on the world of Association Football

Y Sbortóanghii, the Young Warriors of the Game, a familiar name to Beddgelens young and old, but today we apply it to an unfamiliar Soviet and an unfamiliar sport... the other football.

Like many of us, some of these young men grew-up playing Geletian Rules Football, hoping perhaps to some day to represent the Commonwealth against Gaelic or Australian Rules opposition in the international format, but for one reason or another all have found a new path to national glory. More than two decades since Llewellyn's Principality was driven from its last foothold in Geletia, one of the British sports he introduced -cricket- is well established in Indo-Aryan and Dravidian communes especially, while the others -rugby and association football- have been all but exterminated by the traditional game's resurgence in the Christian tyrant's absence.

That is, until now.

Now, many viewers may be unaware of the fact, but the Beddgelert Association Football Association -yes, that is its name- has continued to exist, organising amature competitions between teams from a number of communes, military formations, and workplaces across the continent. BAFA has now come so far as to organise a national team, drawing together enthusiasts from Armorica to Akink, and enter it in the association football's fifty-second world cup competition, which is to be preceded by a so-called baptism of fire through which Y Sbortóanghii must first battle.

For those of you who may wish to follow the fortunes of our comrades as they travel abroad, here's a list of the names you'll want to recognise, and the colours you'll need to know!

As you might expect, the team -comprised primarily of Geletians- is said to have an attacking mentality, and its main strengths are a strong Communist team spirit and plenty of physical height and strength, with all but a couple of players being one hundred and ninety centimetres or more in height and several, such as Scordiscian striker Buadaoine ó Sathairnon, towering at or above the two metre mark.

The Beddgelens are expected to be at a disadvantage in terms of close ball control and dribbling skills against most of their opponents, as most of our teams share playing surfaces with GRF teams that tear-up the pitch and make it advantageous to keep the ball off the deck as much as possible, so we can expect plenty of high balls into the box and a lot of work on positioning and team-work in set pieces, which, if you don't yet know the rules of the game, you can read all about on our intranet site. For those set-pieces we can expect to rely heavily on Dynamo Trevenya's star player Omargastorix, at less than a hundred and eighty centimetres the shortest man on the team but one posessed of a genuinely world class level of power if also the possible handicap of a similarly brutal disposition and short fuse. In contrast, it's universally agreed that Sygenia-native Demeter o Dŵrpoethon is the closest thing we have to a genuinely skillful player, while the criticism usually directed at him is one of alleged laziness, a claim we have to trust he'll disprove.

The boys will also have to watch-out for possibly different enforcement of the rules abroad, since not everybody grew up playing Geletian Rules, and we'll have to hope they can avoid too many suspensions as the competition rolls on.
