International Tennis Association (Closed/Remodeling)

Postby Bergnovinaia » Mon May 10, 2010 7:52 pm

Is now proudly sponsored by Vizion World Corporation

The ITA's website.

OOC: In belief that the NIFT has become seriously inactive, I have decided to take the initiative to establish a new international tennis group. Feel free to make any suggestions as you see fit. And by the way, Delaclava is helping me with this so I will leave scorination up to him for now…

The International Tennis Association

Established to bring tennis players together, the goal on the International Tennis Association (ITA) is to have several tournaments each year in which players can compete with other players from across the international community. The association also plans on creating an international leader board where players can strive to be the top tennis player in the NS world.

Section 1: Entering players
Any nation may enter players into the ITA and shall be eligible for play in any ITA tournament pending their ranking. Nations may enter up to 8 players per gender (two singles players and two doubles teams). Players may play in both singles and doubles but shall be counted as multiple players. (i.e. Joe Smith—Singles, Bob Roberts—Singes, Joe Smith and Bob Roberts—Doubles (Joe Smith and Bob Roberts are counted as both singles players and one doubles team)). A nation submitting players shall use the following form:

Nation:
3 letter acronym:
Names of players:
Divisions of players respectively:
Bio of players (optional):
Surface preference (Clay, Grass, Hard) of each player:

Here's an example sign up:

Nation: Bergnovinaia
3 letter acronym: BER
Names of players: Bob Billy, Susan Whittman
Divisions of players respectively: Men's Singles, Women's Singles
Bio of players (optional): Will post later...
Surface preference (Clay, Grass, Hard) of each player: Bob Billy--Clay, Susan Whittman--Hard

Section 2: Tournaments
Each year six master tournaments and four grand slam tournaments will be held in various nations in the ITA. (See restrictions about masters vs. grand slam later). The host nation of each of these tournaments is to be pre-determined several months in advance to allow for preparation and organization time. If a nation wants to host one of the masters or grand slam tournaments, they shall post a bid here or telegram a bid to one of the ITA committee members. The bid should include a brief reason why you should host the tournament, where it will be hosted in the nation, and any previous hosting experience. (A good bid will likely persuade ITA members to vote in your favor to have the tournament).

Nations also can have their own smaller tournament as frequently as they wish (again, see tournament restrictions for further information). However, they must post on the ITA board (this post) when and where they are going to have the tournament several months in advance to allow sufficient time for ITA members to register for the tournament.

The way Tournaments happen in a year are as follows:

By Delaclava:
-4 Grand Slam tournaments: 1 clay, 1 grass, 1 hard, 1 other (this one can be any surface, including the three listed)
-12 Masters tournaments: 3 clay, 3 grass, 3 hard, 3 other
- An infinite number of small tournaments: we could also tier them as Gold and Silver
- ITA Committee decides levels of all tournaments
- The Grand Slam and Masters tournaments can go at any time in the calendar, but all must be completed until one can go again. If a set hosting nation is unable or inactive, the tournament will go to another nation.
- A nation can host only 1 Grand Slam, and 2 Masters at most; each nation that wishes to host a Masters and is accepted by the ITA Committee must be granted a Masters until a nation can go for a second Masters.

Section 3: Tournament Restrictions
Small individual tournaments hosted by nations are to have no more than 32 entrants. Scorination for these tournament may be done by the hosting nation or a 3rd party ITA member. (If the host nation wishes to scorinate, they must first contact the ITA committee to ensure that the method is a proper way to scorinate).

Masters tournaments may have no more than 168 entrants. Scorination will be handled by the ITA.

Grand Slam tournaments may have no more than 64 entrants. Again, scorination will be handled by the ITA.

Section 4: Rules
For women’s singles and doubles, a best of 3 set match is played. If there is a set tied at 6-6, a 7 point tiebreaker will be used to determine a winner (win by two points). If a match is tied at 1 set to 1 set, then a 10 point match tiebreaker will be used to determine a winner (win by two points).

For men’s singles and doubles, a best of 5 set match is played. If a set is tied at 6-6, a 7 point tiebreaker will be used to determine a winner (win by two points). If a match is tied at 2 sets to 2 sets, then a 10 point tiebreaker will be used to determine a winner.
(On an OOC note: I’m thinking about maybe having consolation matches but that may be too much for our scorinators).

Section 5: International Rankings
Nothing as complicated and top heavy as that, as I have mentioned on no less than two occasions so far, if not more. You get ranking points for winning games. The more of your potential games you win, the more points you get. It's taken as a percentage of games won, then multiplied by a multiplier ten times what I suggested on the previous page.

And when I say percentage of games won, I mean out of the potential total games in a tournament. So if someone wins all five games on their way to winning a tournament, they will get 100% (i.e. 1) multiplied by the tournament multiplier. If another player wins three games and loses their fourth, they will get 3/5 (60%, or 0.6) miltiplied by the tournament multiplier.

I do believe the multipliers are as follows:

10 x for a "grand slam"
6.5 x for a "masters"
4.5 x for the next level
3 x for lower level tournaments / Scott Cup (national ranks only)
2 x for newbie tournaments (like our opening tournaments)

These are then halved after one season, then taken away after two seasons.

National rankings are taken by dividing the normal rankings by 20. These are then used as starter rankings for players from nations with ranked players with no rankings points.

*Byes do not count as wins. Byes will be given to the highest ranking players attending each tournament. If there is a tie for highest ranking player, the bye will be given to one of the players at random.

OOC: Tell me if I am missing anything. Registration to the ITA is open at any time.

OOC: I am also looking for members to join the ITA committee, approximately 9 or another odd number to prevent possible ties. I would appreciate if you've had some experience in NS sports with tennis already or with another sport. If you want to join, contact me or post here. So far I think I have 7 open spots (again, 7 is just a hypothetical number), because I assume Delaclava wishes to be on the committee.

OOC @ everyone not just TOI: It would probabably be better if you reigstered the maximum number of players allowed but you don't have to. It increases your odds of having someone do well.

Nation: South Norwega
3 letter acronym: SON
Names of players: Gordon Brown, Tony Blair, Margaret Thatcher, John Major & Clement Atlee, William Pitt (1st Earl of Chatham ), Margaret Thatcher & William Pitt (Earl etc) Gordon Brown & Tony Blair
Divisions of players respectively: Men's Singles, Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Singles, Women's Doubles, Men's Doubles
Bio of players (optional): Popping up in every major sporting event recently entered by South Norwega, it's the clones! Made from characters on a long running comedy political show, satirising the South Norwegan system, several batches have been made, and following the South Norwegan tennis championships, the following victors have emerged. Something happened in production of the Earl of Chatham, and thus the clone turned out female, rather than the planned male. This conveniently allows South Norwega to have two female tennis players, thus making a Doubles' Pair
Worship the great Gordon Brown!
