2nd Quidditch World Cup - RP/Rosters/Scores (Groups posted)

THE STADIUMS
Many Quidditch stadiums, although not as widespread as most other sports, exist in Delaclava. Created by wizards, the stadiums have been allowed to stand due to the wizards' instrumental role in the founding of Delaclava. Five geographic locations are currently known to hold Quidditch stadiums:
- Valhalla, the most northern province of Delaclava, which is home to Valhalla University, arguably one of the finest in the nation
- Dugedone Islands, the first territory of Delaclava to be inhabited by humans
- Inferno Islands
- Purgis Islands
- Paradiz Islands

The exact Quidditch stadiums being used will be announced upon completion of the draw.

THE FORMAT
The format will consist of a group stage which will have 5 groups of 5. Each team will play each other once. After the group stage, 3 teams from each group will qualify to the knockout rounds, and the top seed will earn a bye. Groups will be sorted by the following criteria, in order:
- Record
- Head-to-head
- Points differential
- Points scored
If, for whatever reason, ties cannot be broken at this point, all teams will play each other once. In case of ties, the match(es) will be replayed as many times as needed in order to advance the amount of teams necessary.

THE SCORINATION
The Babbage Islands' Quidditch scorinator will be used. As there has been little previous performance, rank and RP will be weighted equally. Scorination will take place every day, with the RP cutoff occurring at 9:00 PM EDT, or 100 UTC.

RP BONUS
RPs will be graded on a scale of 0 to 10. RPs will be graded on spelling and grammar, adherence to your opponents' RP (if they RP'ed first), good writing quality, knowledge of Quidditch, etc. I'm not necessarily looking for humor and wit, but if I get a funny RP with good quality and good spelling/grammar, I'll grade it well.
A 0 would be a one- or two-line RP, which has bad spelling and grammar, no adherence to opponents' RP, bad quality, and possibly no relevance to the subject.
A 5 would be 1-3 paragraphs, a few syntax errors, maybe a couple of discrepancies, and average quality.
A 10 would be several paragraphs long, almost impeccable grammar, respect for the rest of RPers, and excellent quality. It may also include humor and wit, and adhere to a storyline.

RPing will slowly degrade over time, awarding consistent RPers. Also, I'm grading on a day-by-day basis, so writing one excellent RP will get you a higher bonus than several average or poor RPs.

A roster will count to the bonus of the matchday before which it is posted. You'll be fine with just posting your players, but I will award higher to those who think out a background to their players. Kits don't hurt either.

I strongly recommend that you fill out these questions in your roster, as to avoid confusion with other participants in your roleplay:

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
    Choose my goalscorers?
    Godmod scoring events?
    RP injuries to my players?
    Godmod injuries to my players?
    Godmod other events?

Carter Marshall had a problem he'd normally delegate to an underling, or even out of the Department of Health and Athletics entirely.

Sarzonia's vice president had to try to find at least 12 people who could play Quidditch. Hell, he'd have been happy with finding 12 people in Sarzonia who'd even heard of Quidditch. The standard e-mails didn't even get a single response. The letters to various universities weren't bearing any fruit.

Finally, Marshall stood up from behind his desk and walked out into the administrative office. He tapped shoulders, saying, "you, you, you, you," until he'd rounded up 12 office workers he knew were athletic.

"Come with me," he said tersely.

"Where are we going?"

"Never mind that," he said. "Just come with me."

The men exchanged bewildered looks as they were led into a room in the basement of the building. When they arrived in the room, Marshall motioned for the door to be closed.

"Mr. Vice President, you're going to have to explain what the hell's going on," said one of the young men.

"Did we do something wrong?"

"In due time," Marshall said. "What I can tell you is that none of you have done anything wrong. You do have the potential to do something very right."

"Say what?"

"Like I said, in due time," Marshall said. He pointed to two rows with six banks of laptop computers each. He looked at an assistant who had arrived.

"We ready?"

"Yeah."

Marshall looked out at the 12 men he'd assembled.

"First of all, my apologies for the subterfuge, but I really didn't have a choice. We're putting together a Quidditch team and we're competing in the World Cup."

"Quidditch? What's that?"

"I don't even know," the assistant said. "However, we've taken the liberty of providing you links to some information about the sport. Rest assured, the vice president has been studying the sport. And for good reason."

"I'm going to be your coach," he said.

"Come again?"

"We're going to field a team, and you're going to be the team. Until or unless we get someone who knows what the hell Quidditch even is or how to play it, we're going to have to improvise somehow. And the way I see it, we're about to do some rather crazy improvisation."

The 12 would-be players all marched to the laptops where they read the information.

"I'm going to need five people to serve as chasers, four beaters, two keepers and one seeker," Marshall said.

One hand shot up.

"But what if our seeker gets injured?"

"Then we're what our mother country would call shit out of luck," Marshall said.

"I suppose I could be a seeker, but I feel more comfortable trying my hand at being a beater," he said.

"Fine, you can be our combination beater/seeker," Marshall said.

After discussion finally drew to a close, Marshall finally had his 12-man roster set. He sent it to the organising committee in Delaclava.

This wouldn't be the first time we've sent anything to Delaclava, Marshall thought. Finally, he smiled. In fact, he knew it would be yet another indication of the close relationship that was developing between the countries.

1- Quade Mino AGE: 22
8- Kinos Lanor AGE: 17
14- Crean Talos AGE: 14

Beaters
2- Hade Prinos AGE: 27
3- Lanos Damert AGE: 24
9- Popa Kraine AGE: 29
10- Tuin Haery AGE: 21

Chasers
4- Jage Sparos AGE: 25
5- Numik Popos AGE: 22
6- Sade Reta AGE: 21
11- Minos Xnop AGE: 29

12- Numine Lapo AGE: 27

Seekers
7- Jalos Kayzo AGE: 22
13- Ritas Dalapo AGE: 13

We have a very young squad. Ritas Delapo is the youngest at 13 and his number is 13 is that bad luck? Not enough from him he owns 13 black cats which he got on Friday 13th from the 13th shop on 13 street. He reckons he's giving bad luck to his opponents. Crean Talos is only 14 so he's quite young but he's a second choice keeper. But Ritas is nearly first choice.

Esteemed Colleagues,

I am pleased to inform you of the squad that the Centre is again sending a team, on this occasion to defend the Quidditch World Cup itself, previously won in Uiri. Our now world-famous team comes from the Starblaydi Quidditch Sunday League (known as the SQSL, or 'Squizzle') and, as such, are the finest exponents of the great 'sport of warlocks' known to us. Though we are, of course, hidden within Starblaydia we are, nonetheless, proud of the nation in which we live and the team will strive to match that pride with their performances.

Listed below are the players we are again sending forth to compete, as well as a brief description regarding each one, as well as the noble House they played for at the famous Percyvale Academy of Wizardry and Witchcraft. Starblaydia will play in the traditional predominantly-purple robes, also detailed below.

Keeper
• Wearing the Number One cloak and keeping goals for Starblaydia will be Enrique Esposito, who plays for the Fox's Irregulars Quidditch Club. A highly-capable Keeper who played for Montfort House, he is an excellent Quaffle-stopper. He is also Starblaydia's Captain.

Chasers
Harkon Vekkinen is the Chaser with the Number Two cloak, who plays for the ancient Jhani Cavalry side. A Montfort House Quidditch Captain in his time, he is an accomplished tackler.
• The only Witch on the team, Jennifer Havaland, wears the Number Three cloak. Formerly Head Girl of the Coraluna House, her passing is second to none in the entire land; a prized asset of the Neveheim Arsenal Witches side.
Rudyard Rumplebottom is oft-quoted as saying 'Rumplebottom's the name, goal-scoring's the game'. As such the bearer of our Number Four cloak is the Wizard most likely to be tallied on the scoring scroll. Formerly of House Leoric, he plays for Montepool County Quidditch Club.

Beaters
• Bearing the Number Five cloak is Alfred Grompton, once of Qucksilver House, who's shots with Bludgers are as complex as they are devastating. Currently plays for the Beverington Hawksworth School Old Boys side, where he teaches Arithmancy.
George Huxtable, descended from the great Leoric Huxtable, is another Leoric House member with a keen eye for an accurate swing at a Bludger. Plays for the Penningworth County Quidditch Club and wears the Number Six cloak.

Seeker
• Xantian The Eagle-Eyed, preferably known as Xantian will be the team's Seeker, wearing the Number Seven cloak. A Leoric House member if ever there was one, Xantian is eagle-eyed (figuratively rather than literally) and occasionally even reckless in his single-minded pursuit of the Golden Snitch. Caught every single snitch asked of him to take the World Championship in the previous edition. Currently plays for Montepool County Quidditch Club.

Robes
A crude depiction (the most we could manage for this scroll, I'm afraid) of the World Champion Starblaydi team follows:

Should any replacements be required in between matches due to unfortunate 'incidents', they will be named and dispatched to Delaclava as and when appropriate.

Wishing every team in the competition 'good luck'!

The Babbage Islands National Quidditch Team

Background

There are four very small magical academies in The Babbage Islands, each near a good-sized city yet unknown to all but the duly informed. All four are tied to Muggle institutions of higher learning as cover for any needed interface between worlds.

  • Ferðalangur is associated with the Babbage Academy of Engineering, Institute of Engineering and the Mind at Kopavogur, Gibson.
  • Peirianwyr is associated with the Thatcher-Powell International Institute's division of polycultural studies at Cardiff, North Island.
  • Veroserĉantoj is associated with the Berkley University faculty of languages, Lojban section, at Boulder, South Island.
  • Zeevarenden is associated with the Interdisciplinary Research Group of the Engineering College of Daimler at Belgium, Daimler.

Each academy has a Quidditch team of seven competitors and two reserves in a given season. Both students and alumni may compete for an academy under the following limitations:

  • Students may not compete in their first year.
  • At most two alumni may be on the nine-person roster.
  • A person has a lifetime maximum of six seasons of eligibility, not necessarily consecutive.

The national team has been selected from rostered competitors in the last season.

The team

The team captain is keeper Eva Arnardóttir, a statuesque blonde seventh-year from the Ferðalangur academy. Eva has been the stingiest keeper in the league for three seasons running, in stark contrast to the warm and outgoing personality that makes her captain.

Two young graduate wizards start as beaters. Nephi Grant of Veroserĉantoj is the larger and stronger of the two, Gerrit de Groot of Zeevarenden the faster and more accurate. They are complemented by three student chasers. Precocious Liesje Hendriks of Veroserĉantoj is a second-year sensation, just twelve years old but flying with panache against her elders. Hafliði Sæmundsson is a seventh-year mainstay at Ferðalangur, now holding the career scoring record for chasers there with one year of alumni eligibility left after graduation. Suzanne Clawson, the fifth-year captain at Zeevarenden, finds herself the subject of the gossip owls regularly as she moves easily between relationships.

Suzanne's current flame is the team's seeker, sixth-year Caradoc Gabriel of Peirianwyr. Caradoc won the honours as Most Outstanding Player in the league this season, largely due to capturing the Snitch in all six league matches. He is recovering from injury sustained in the final match of the schedule, but it didn't stop him from scoring the critical one-fifty in that win over Ferðalangur as well.

The reserves are Griffin Evans, a sixth-year beater for Ferðalangur, and third-year chaser Wim Mulder of Peirianwyr.

Coach Genevieve Richardson was a legendary chaser at Peirianwyr over twenty years ago. Her single-season mark for goals by a chaser still stands after nearly a quarter-century. She is one of the rare witches who makes her way ordinarily in the world of Muggles, serving as administrative assistant to the general secretary of the Football Federation of Babbage. Her assistant is Ruud van de Graaf, a former Zeevarenden beater who was a leading organiser of the failed attempt to start a professional quidditch circuit a decade ago.

Here in the quidditch world cup, Silverian wizards are looking forward to it as they have had success in quidditch with their academies. They are gunning for gold, and the group draw is soon, so they think they can win

The Monte Mago quidditch team:

Colours are black, white and grey

More info about the community in: http://www.nswiki.net/index.php?title=Monte_Mago

Style is: Chasers (4), Beaters (1), Keeper (3)

Keeper:

#10 - Baltazar "Insônia" Carambolas
Baltazar is the most experienced player of the current Monte Mago team. He is a member of the community since before the building of the Lago Negro academy, so he didn't study in it. In order to develop his magical abilities, he started studying all day, without sleeping, and that's why he is now known as "Insônia". He also loves to eat.

Chasers:

#1 - Ed Macavius
Ed is a member of the Monte Mago community who nowadays lives in Cafundéu, being a director of an important business group. He now finds this competition as the perfect opportunity to return to his roots, and also received the honour of being the captain of the team. He comes from the Spade house of the Lago Negro academy.

#8 - Anita Casagrande
Anita is a very respected witch of Monte Mago, who now works inside the Lago Negro academy as a teacher. She is surely the fastest player of the team, although she sometimes is a bit clumsy. She usually acts as a supporter for the other two chasers, with Ed being the main one. She comes from the Diamond house of the Lago Negro academy.

#5 - Téo "Don Juan" Valinhos
Téo is a very popular character inside Mago Negro, being the player with the highest amount of fans in the community, especially between the women. He is also called "Don Juan" due to his tendence to try to conquer the heart of nearly every woman he meets, something that has put him in a lot of troubles in the past. He graduated from the Diamond house.

Beaters:

#19 - Gaetano De Cabrini
Gaetano takes the fact that he is a wizard seriously, and hates people who don't have magical abilities. He has an obsession in developing his talents, and hates when people say he is just a good magician (as happens inside Cafundéu), something that lead him to act violently in the past. He doesn't reveal his face, as he think he shouldn't be playing quidditch, but studying. He graduated from the Club house.

#23 - Fernanda "Onça" Jimenez
Fernanda, also known as "Onça", is a ferocious beater. Before entering in the Monte Mago community, she was a top martial artist. She has just discovered that she has ancestors with magical abilities, and is too old to enter in the academy. Due to this, she had even more time to practice quidditch, a sport she loves.

Seeker:

#2 - Natália Lavent
Natália is the youngest member of the Monte Mago team, and is the team's seeker. She was able to get this position thanks to her incredible reflexes and ability in predicting the direction to which the snitch will go. She is more smart than fast, and impresses everyone with her nice moves with the broom. She comes from the Club house of the Lago Negro academy, and is still finishing her studies there.

Coach: The coach is the famous Monte Mago wizard Válber Chazie, descendant of Monte Mago's founders (in fact, the son of the founder). He is the one that introduced quidditch in the region. Was also one of the first students of the academy, a former member of the Hearts house. He is very demanding, and wants his players to follow his orders exactly. He also dislikes staying in Monte Mago all time, so he'll love the opportunity to travel abroad.

Roster:

Chasers (+3)
Rebekka Fach
[Arguably the most talented and beautiful witch on the team, Fach is known for acrobatic and exciting plays with her team-mates, which include balancing acts on her broom, occasionally jumping off to score mind-ogling eye candy goals. She is the team captain.]
Joergen Graf
[ A veteran chaser, Joergen has great control of his brook and instincts when it comes to dodging bludgers. He can also make the occasional fancy goal, but unlike Fach he doesn't make a living of it. Even so, he's perhaps the best all-around chaser on the team. ]
Minna Huth
[ Fresh out of Siegfried Academy for Magical Arts, Huth is a young and raw talent. Though not quite as acrobatic as Fach, nor as experienced as Graf, she is still a great chaser and could be the center of the team in the years to come.

Beaters (+2)
Ludwig Herzig
[ An absolute beast of a beater, he is equally as talented rather deflecting the Bludgers away from his team mates or smashing them towards opponents. He has gained a reputation for being somewhat, okay, a huge dirty player in Tocrowkia.]
Jonas Flad
[ Younger and more empathetic than Ludwig, he is still an effective beater but often prefers to simply keep the bludgers away from his team mate. Still, when the games on the line he won't hesitate to start smashing it toward the opposing team.]

Keeper (+3)
Josef Huenger
[ Huenger is fast and agile and never afraid to put his body on the line to prevent the opposition from scoring, even in lopsided games. He is known for being a 'warrior' for his very reason and doesn't let the little things get to him. ]

Seeker
Verena Gaupp
[ Pretty & Petite, Gaupp is the prototypical seeker. Fast, agile, eagle-eyed. She is known for her terrific broom control, acrobatic abilities and all-around hard-nosed nature despite being a young player. ]

GROUP DRAW
Pot 1: Starblaydia, Uiri, Taeshan, Delaclava, Tocrowkia
Pot 2: The Hidden Paw, Monte Mago, Swilatia, Valanora, Krytenia
Pot 3: The Babbage Islands, Sarzonia, Toiletdonia, Andrewboy, Voltronica
Pot 4: Undeadzombiee, Euroslavia, Silver Beach, Thatius, Gael na Eire
Pot 5: Rick Roll Land, Hassett, Agaralia, Sonnveld, Fulma

Hello, and welcome everyone! I'm Catherine Kingston, Delaclava Olympic Committee member, and thank you all for coming to the draw. We're going to get started right away, so you can bring this back to your respective nations, tell the stories that should be told, and let the magic begin!

Eight teams from the inaugural Cup return for the second edition in Delaclava, including three of the top four teams. Those teams were potted by performance in that Cup. The other seventeen have been potted randomly. We'll get right to it!

The hosts are being given Group A and their choice of geographic location. The Delaclava national team, captained by Anthony Christiansen, has elected to place their Group A in Valhalla! Your Pot 2 team...is Krytenia. From Pot 3...it's Voltronica. Your Pot 4 team is...Undeadzombiee! And your Pot 5 team hails from...Agaralia!

Group B is being placed in the Inferno Islands. And the Pot 1 team is...Tocrowkia! They finished 10th in the 1st Cup, eliminated in the group stage! Pot 2...Swiliatia! 20th place in the first Cup! Pot 3 provides...The Babbage Islands! The Pot 4 team is...Gael na Eire! And from Pot 5...Fulma!

Group C will be played in the Purgis Islands. The 1 seed is Starblaydia, the defending champions! From Pot 2, the challenger is...Valanora! The Pot 3 squad is...Toiletdonia! Pot 4 gives us...Silver Beach! Joining them last, but not least, is...Sonnveld!

Group D will be played in the Paradiz Islands. The top team there will be Uiri, 3rd place from the last tournament and the hosts as well! Pot 2...Monte Mago! 18th place! From the 3rd Pot...our dear friends Sarzonia! Pot 4...Euroslavia! And joining them will be Rick Roll Land!

For Group E, in the Dugedone Islands, that leaves Taeshan, 4th place in the 1st Cup; The Hidden Paw, tied for 15th; Andrewboy, Thatius, and Hassett.

And that's all the teams! I'm excited for the action, and I'm sure you are too! Good luck!

The Krytenian Quidditch Squad

KEEPER
Wearing number seven (yes, the Krytenians do things a little differently) is twenty-three year old Cordelia Ashcroft. Ashcroft, who plays for the Mercia Dragons, is well known for her agility and tenacity; she famously kept that rarity of the game, a clean scroll, against Northwood Swifts last season.

BEATERS
In the number six jersey and robes, Emily Lake-Smith, a half-blood from Diorville, may look like butter wouldn't melt with her flowing red locks and syrupy caramel eyes, but beware, for within this unimposing frame beats the heart of a huntress. The Lily of the Valley player, 25, famously knocked an opponent with a point-blank Bludger to the face. That'll teach him to be distracted.

Wearing 5, and the team captain, is thirty-one year old Elizabeth Owen. Feared Beater, with a left arm to put many men to shame, Owen takes no prisoners, and takes the game damn seriously; just ask her Tormalay Giants team-mates. Photocalls, on the other hand...

CHASERS
In four is the darling of the team, Aphrodite Hennessey, aged 21. Known simply as Affi, the Lily of the Valley player has the looks and the skills to make heads turn. An Animagus, her party trick of wandering into new team-mates houses in the form of a doe is guaranteed to bring the house down.

Wearing 3 is the youngster of the team: aged just 19, Serena Greene is a scoring prodigy. A Metamorphmagus, Greene has been known to distract Keepers by changing hair colour (often to "Quaffle Red") whilst shooting to provide a distraction. Recently signed for Bradwell Inquisitors, whose reputation as "Team Evil" is, thankfully, completely unfounded.

Milandra Xiang is at 2, and the twenty-five year old is, put simply, the "quiet one". Will get on with the job, a sense of discipline probably helped by the fact she plays olongside Owen for the Tormalay Giants.

SEEKER
She of the Snitch-hunting, and wearing number one...a lady not only born of Muggles, but Candelari Muggles at that. Cynthia O'Hanrahan and family got the first plane out of Albrecht before the M.O.R.T. could get anywhere near them once young Cynthia started manifesting her abilities at the age of two. Now 28 and happily settled in the Forest of Yardley, O'Hanrahan teaches Muggle Studies at Arberia Academy during the week, and plays Seeker for the Yardley Dryads on a Saturday.

TEAM PICTURES
The team are wearing the green jerseys of the national team, but not the navy robes or any of the other equipment of the team.
The team will play in green, navy, and white, and not the sky blue normally associated with Krytenian international teams.

The players weren't very interested in watching the group draw, or scouting previous Quidditch World Cup hosts Uiri or 18th place side Monte Mago. They knew scouting Euroslavia or Rick Roll Land wasn't going to do a whole lot of good. They had a far more basic problem on their hands.

"C'mon! You're getting it!" Carter Marshall yelled out as Chris Entwistle struggled with his broomstick.

"For three whole seconds!" Entwhistle yelled back. "I can't do this shit!"

Several hours of trying to fly on broomsticks was not paying off for Sarzonia. Try as they might, they just couldn't do it. They'd watched enough DVDs with basic information about the game and how to play it. They'd watched enough matches to get an idea of what the flow of the game was like. They just couldn't work the broomsticks.

"Hope the hosts have a way of getting those buggers in the air," chaser Larry Coffey said. "Because we don't have a Goddamn clue."

They knew they'd be traveling to Delaclava soon. That part wasn't worrisome to the Stars. The part that was worrisome was their inability to figure out how to fly on those accursed broomsticks.

"This is going to be a long World Cup," keeper Edwin Nash said.

"No," said beater Jim Flanagan. "It's going to be a rather short one. For us, at least."

"Gentlemen, enough discussion," Marshall said. "Go home and pack. We'll have your kits ready for you when we arrive at Paradiz Islands. Our flight leaves in three hours."

Marshall knew the self-doubt in each of his players wasn't going to go away. Truth be known, his self-doubt was growing exponentially the closer it came to departure time.

Just what have I gotten all of us into? he thought. He tried to suppress his own self-doubt with his confidence that his team would do the best it could. Even that wasn't enough. As the players took their seats on the aircraft, he stood up to address them.

"Gentlemen," he said. "Think of this as yet another chapter in the annals of Sarzonian diplomacy. Think of this as a welcome break from your obligations at the office." And for Lunatic Goofball's sake, don't think of this as lining us up for four smackdowns, he thought. Even though he knew they were coming. Uiri was no slouch when it came to Quidditch. Neither was Monte Mago. He knew better than to count on Rick Roll Land for an easy victory.

Then there was Euroslavia. The history between the two nations was tense at best. That tension reared its head during the Scott Cup, also hosted by Delaclava, when Sarzonia's David Polley and Joann Grimsley faced off against Dan Walsh and Jenn Grijalva. Especially when Polley treated Walsh with scorn.

We're just going to have to play 'em hard and fair, he thought. Even if our governments don't exactly see eye to eye. He knew President Jay Tyler wasn't a big fan of continuing the grudge, but Lieutenant President Nicole Lewis had the far longer history with them. The less Marshall talked to Lewis about the matter, the better.

Besides, there was the matter of Sarzonia getting its arse kicked in Quidditch that was of more pressing concern.

And now, here come 'The Hidden Harriers',
_______________flying along in their indigo-&-violet kit _

Keeper: Orrorra o FarWoods*.
(Reserve: Jherrane Gray*)

Beaters: Gerregh Karkajhooh, Ferred Karkajhooh.
(Reserves: Torross har Thrarrhray, Tarra-Marra har Thrarrhay)

Chasers: Derrak RedBear (Captain), Nerroh FirWood, Rorra Mar-Grarrah.*
(Reserves: Mirrantra Prosperrry*, Morrgarna o FayWood*, Rorrn Karkajhooh)

Seeker: Arri Baker.
(Reserve: Charn Parrar)

(Players whose names in this list are marked with an asterisk, *, are female.
The starting pair of beaters are identical twins, and the reserve pair are non-identical twins.)

(More information about the players & their backgrounds will be released during RP... probably...)

RP permissions: "Yes" to everything that you would let me do to your team, too, but "No" to anything that you wouldn't let me do to them.

Notes
Yes, these are all Ursines. They might be slightly slower and less manoeuverable than their Human rivals, but to balance this they can take hits from the bludgers with less effect on their capabilities and their own beaters can hit those bludgers HARD.
This nation's athletes are less dedicated to sportsbearship than is generally the case for those from Bears Armed. In fact, if any of them went to Hogwarts then there's probably a fair chance that they'd have been "sorted" into Slytherin...

They are fielding exactly the same line-up that they did in the first Quidditch World Cup, now with added experience...

Wizard Daily

It was an exciting match in the opener of the 2nd Quidditch World Cup in Delaclava. The Taeshan Purple Knights played familiar foe The hidden Paw in their opening round game and would go back and forth for the somewhat average length match. The Hidden Paw would build a nice 40-10 lead, but Chaser Zack Mullin would add 3 goals to Arya Smiths earlier one to make it a tie. Then after a rally stopping Hidden Paw goal the game would last another period of time without goals as Knights Captain and Beater Tyler Mullet and fellow Beater A.J. Krum took out most of the players on each side with some amazingly sketchy stick play. After a timeout called by the Hidden Paw to address player issues the teams would get back in the air and the two would go at it again. The Knights would tie and take the lead on to Leah Breckenridge goals, and get a healthy 20 point lead on Smiths second of the day. Then Knights seeker Quentin Black proved why he had been so key to the teams success in the previous games with a nice snitch catch well off the pitch before triumphantly bringing it back to a exhilarated crowd.

The practice sessions for Sarzonia's Quidditch team weren't exactly going according to plan, even in the Paradiz Islands. The players couldn't even get their brooms into the air. No amount of mental gymnastics would allow the players to be anything but Earthbound.

In fact, manager Carter Marshall canceled the final scheduled practice out of frustration with the team's inability to get airborne. The Vice President for Health and Athletics realised he should have signed a team of wizards. Or tried to find 12 wizards willing to represent Sarzonia in the Quidditch World Cup.

A funny thing happened though as soon as they took their positions on the pitch. As soon as the referee gave the signal to start the match, players who were bumbling and stumbling were now flying through the air as if they'd played the sport all their lives. There was no logical explanation for the sudden change or the dominating performance Sarzonia gave in a 200-20 victory over Euroslavia in its Quidditch World Cup debut.

It may not have registered as more than a blip on the radar in Sarzonia, but with millions of supporters still smarting from a shock 4-0 loss to Secristan in the second round of the football World Cup, it was some badly needed salve for their wounds.

"I just told the lads to have fun and try to do some of the things we talked about in training," Marshall said. "When the match started, we played like a more seasoned team. I can't explain it."

Perhaps someone with better understanding of Quidditch might be able to explain how Sarzonia were so dominant, but based on what little I know of the sport, Sarzonia were able to dictate the flow of play and Euroslavia never got anything going.

More to the point, with Sarzonia nursing a 50-20 lead, seeker Chris Entwhistle captured the snitch, vaulting the Stars (1-0) to the final margin of victory. As the players surrounded Entwhistle to congratulate him for capturing the snitch, the Delaclav referee blew his whistle repeatedly.

Marshall shook his head and began to cup his hand around his mouth to shout "cut the celebration!" according to a source familiar with the conversation on the bench. However, the referee said something that stunned the Sarzonian players.

"Game's over!"

"What?"

"Your player captured the snitch. By rule, the game is over."

The players congratulated themselves with bewildered looks on their faces. They didn't know what to make of it all. Their sudden ability to fly through the air on the broomsticks. Their dominance of a game they didn't even know how to play. The sudden end of the match due to Entwhistle's heroics in capturing the snitch.

But with the country looking for something to brighten their mood after a bitter loss, they'll take what they can get.

Defeat

Postby Toiletdonia » Wed Apr 07, 2010 11:25 pm

Well there we have it. Silver Beach beat us. We try are best damn it! Toiletdonia have been draw in a group of death. Silver Beach a heavy R nation, Starblaydia the world champions and Valanora a high RP nation as well. Sonnveld the other team well I've never heard of them. If 4 go through Toiletdonia have a really good chance. If 2 team go through were stuffed.

Silver Beach 200
5X Chaser goal things
Toiletdonia
Hoops:
Sparos 27 Mins
Reta 35 Mins
Xnop 42 Mins
Reta 68 Mins
Reta 71 Mins

Toiletdonia finished ahead after the chasers did their bit. But after the seekers went after the snitch things changed. Toiletdonia were doing well but Silver Beach's seeker pushed past at high speeds at caught the snitch. Toiletdonia were left gutted. At least we still have the 70 points.

In an exciting match versus Voltronica, Undeadzombiee's team, the Zombiee's, won their first match. Led by Victor Jans, one of the beaters, they came out to quickly score 30 points in the first 15 minutes. Then, attempting to rally, Voltronica scored two quick goals against Jim Smith, the keeper. We quickly recuperated, though, when Jans hit a massive bludger to the lead Voltronica striker. Then we scored four goals over the next ten minutes.

After 30 minutes of hard play, the score was 70-20, Undeadzombiee. Quickly, we came out after our seventh goal, ready to get another quick goal, when our lead striker, Matt Corvette, was hit with a bludger and dropped the quaffle. The other two strikers missed the ball, and it appeared Matt had sustained a very serious injury. He blundered around the field for ten minutes, so no sub could come in, just because Corvette didn’t realize that he was hurting the team.

In that span, Voltronica gained 100 points, and we only scored 10. Then, Josh Scrum, the seeker, took off. The Voltronica seeker followed him intently. Suddenly, the snitch was seen darting into the crowds, but the seekers, for fear of causing injury, pulled up.

Voltronica then scored seven goals, and it appeared we would lose terribly. But we then rallied, and traded five straight goals each, in an offensive fireworks display of passes and shots between Corvette, Ashley Wright, and Fred Jamison, and the Voltronica team. Finally, Wright went on a scoring frenzy, to make the score 190-240, Voltronica.

Scrum, then snuck up to the Snitch, so the Voltronica team wouldn’t see him, and grabbed the Snitch, ending the game, 340-240, Zombiee’s.

"Not a bad match, team. Well flown."

As coach Genevieve Richardson spoke those words, the Babbage quidditch team broke loose with a huge cheer. Suzanne Clawson gave seeker Caradoc Gabriel a quick peck on the cheek before the coach spoke again.

"Nephi, Gerrit, you two need to be a little more dominant out there. Gael na Eire got too many chances to score. Eva's a marvelous keeper, but she can't stop multiple chasers at once. Most of the time.

"Five goals in a short match, way to go Liesje!" And little Liesje Hendriks turned bright red as her teammates congratulated her.

"We don't want his head to get too big, but Caradoc did make a great dive on the Snitch . . . " Another round of cheers interrupted the summary. Caradoc made an exaggerated bow to his teammates before Eva Arnardóttir shushed them.

"Sixty-forty before the Snitch. Not bad for an international debut. But we need to lift our game as we start to face teams with World Cup experience. Master Ruud, will you take it from here and outline preparations for the match with Swilatia?"

Assistant coach Ruud van de Graaf continued the conversation, as the yellow-and-black-cloaked youngsters looked on intently.
