Introduction

The Kingdom of San José Guayabal, or also known as Guayabal or simply called SJG is a culturally diverse nation, inhabited by at least thirty ethnic minority groups and five other major ethnic groups, forming a bond of brotherhood between each group, giving to the nation a strong reputation of unity and brotherhood even in the most difficult moments and being politically speaking a stable nation working into the frame of a Constitutional Monarchy. The ancestral heritage given by Spanish colonizers and a mixture of innovation and creativity have shown positive effects in this vibrant nation located in the southernmost corner of Esportiva. In this basic information guide is presented important information that will help the tourist (Regardless of nationality, sex, species, religion, etc.) to have a pleasant stay in San José Guayabal, with phrases and tips that will be much useful.

History

Originally, San José Guayabal was inhabited by a tribe from the South Pole, which has been called "Eskimos" and which our country still live to this day, beginning more than 2,600 years before Christ. Eskimos settled in small communities on the shores of the south coast of the nation, developing solitarily without contact with most members of other ethnic groups. The economy was based on hunting and selling bearskins for the winter season, or the planting and harvesting of grapes or apples during the spring time. The system of government was nonexistent and remained so for a long time, where the Eskimos were the majority before a new ethnic group in the center of the country, which was the group of "Wára-Wára" who ended up being called "Native Guayabalenses.”

Many centuries later, nothing changed regarding the ethnic background of the population, because the Eskimos maintained a social domain but now much stronger than ever through a central government called "Naalakkersueriaaseq" or simply "Naala", consisting of a governor who tended to meet the role of chief and spiritual guide of the nation. Note that they abandoned their nomadic practices and decided to establish around the "Great Lake" now called "Metropolitan Lake", about 230 km from what is now San Salvador, the capital.

We are going back to closest date to today, specifically in the 14th century BC, a new ethnic group came from the Northern regions which, specifically from Andarica, The Spaniards who colonized our country with the valorous mission of Explorer Luis Barbosa (Who’s considered as founder of the nation) and transformed it into an important cultural spot for Esportiva then. The discovery of new cities and new cultures was almost unstoppable, the isolated Eskimos decided to merge into a new society, full of opportunities for everybody. And that hasn’t stopped yet, because more groups came to stay in our nation, coming from the north the Finns, Swedes, Russians and Anglo-Saxons, creating a multicultural society in a big nation, who had a strong sense of unity and brotherhood since the early beginning despite the racial differences.

In the last 200 years, San José Guayabal has suffered drastic changes into his history and social system, being caused by political reasons, who led to three civil wars (1989, 2024, 2047) where the main factor was the wish of liberty and prosperity from a diverse but united nation with strong wishes of success in international issues as business, industries and more specially peace and freedom.

Today, San José Guayabal is a nation that is rising from the ruins by leaps and bounds after the most recent and devastating civil war that put a stop to the tyrannical communist regime of then President Miguel Serrano. In an industry dominated by petroleum and energy resources such as shale or subtraction of natural gas in conjunction with a strong and increasing momentum of the touristic industry and the micro technology based economy (Chips, micro-chips, etc.) are transforming the nation into what people have dreamed of, a country of advanced seeking for a better future and to overcome adversity in order to become more powerful and provide a better standard of life for its inhabitants.

Geography, Climate and another natural phenomena

San José Guayabal is a continental nation, located in the continent of Inferiore Minore, Esportiva. Having a great number of surrounding islands, an 85% of The Esportivan Antartic Territory, doing a great combination of climate and geographical features.

The continental area is very irregular, mountainous and a high number of volcanoes, being mountainous in the west, south-central, north-central and eastern containing long plains and steppes in the central area (also called "The Heart") of the nation, The Alpine Belt also called "Cordillera Del Fuego" runs from the border with Estope and Wednesday Evening in the far west to the border with Gregoryisgodistan in the east, forming a branch towards the south coast of the nation. The eruptions are less frequent in recent years, the last eruption was 12 years ago and the possibilities of a new eruption event occur is very minimal. This has generated an abundance of rocky material from the process of cooling of the lava, a very popular material used for gardens and decoration or houses.

Notable exceptions to the mountainous terrain of San José Guayabal are the Central Valley and the Northern Steppe. "El Valle" is a flat land that does not exceed 600 meters above sea level and extends over much of the Lempa River; the soil is very fertile for growing grain and other agricultural products such as corn, beans, and sugarcane, and also is home of the biggest hydroelectric dams in the entire region of Esportiva.

The North Steppe is the most arid area of the territory, dominated by its large sand dunes, this region has very little rainfall throughout the year and extreme weather in the summer, easily exceeding 42°C at noon and decreasing the 9°C at the night, fauna it’s minimal there except for scorpions and some lizards.

The climate of San Jose Guayabal is generally quite predictable because there are four distinct seasons being these winter (June 21 to September 20), spring (September 21 to December 20), summer (December 21 to March 20) and the autumn (March 21-June 20) while in Rossana (overseas colony) the condition is different because of its location in the northern hemisphere being the winter between December and March, spring between April and June, the summer between July and September while autumn is from October to December. It's very rare to see a non-corresponding to the station in our country climate, with stable climates for each season and very few flaws in the service of climate information in the news and newspapers because the monitoring systems of the climate and the almost obvious weather patterns.

Inwe talk about natural phenomena, we can find three, the most catastrophic ones are the earthquakes, a very common event in the nation due to its volcanic activity and its location between two major tectonic plates, the Southern Plate and the Inferiore Plate. This makes our nation quite prone to seismic events place but do not panic. The nation has high construction standards regarding the prevention of seismic events and is mandatory that each building has evacuation plans which are placed in visible to make easier the evacuation besides making evacuation drills at least two times for year. Note that at least 45% of citizens are people trained to provide first aid, this being part of the given requirements to complete the Students’ Social Service, required for the graduation of students in the education system.

We now turn to other less lethal phenomena, as are the aurora australis and the migration of geese, spectacular events that attracts lots of people. The aurora australis is a phenomenon that occurs mainly from March to September, while maintaining an appropriate intensity to be seen until the end of December, usually can be seen throughout the country, including northern areas like El Roblar or Metapán. The migrating of geese occurs during September to December, from the Central Valley region they move to the South Pole, then head to the north of Esportiva. These spectacles often see lots of people witnessing the wonders of nature.

Travel

Visiting San José Guayabal is not a very complicated process, as the provisions of international travel are applied for each foreign visitor. International flights usually land at three airports, one for each egion of the country, being the El Roblar International Airport designated to the west, Luis Barbosa Airport in Vladivostok for the central region and San Salvador International Airport to the east, the latter being the most important because of its location in the capital.

On transport and within San Jose Guayabal, we can find many alternatives among these is a rental car, join a tour group to use a minibus, taxi, public bus system, the private mass transportation, the underground (Available in cities over 500,000 inhabitants com) the bullets and domestic flights trains provide easy connectivity between one point and another in the nation, but can mention popular media, low cost and short runs as the tuc tuc and the colloquially called "coaster" (small minibus whose route is fast but to some extent uncomfortable due to the high volume of music and the sound of their mufflers). As mentioned, the transport between different parts of the nation is very easy, even people facilitate travel through the "ride" method, something often practiced by people who made a short trip and bear a considerable burden in order to avoid walk with overload.

Transportation is a very fast method SJG if done especially between cities separated by many kilometers because there is no speed limit on highways, although it is recommended to drive at no more than 140 kilometers per hour.

It’s important to say that you should drive defensively in the roads, especially in the interstate highways, due to the very aggressive driving style of Guayabalenses in general, drive always at your right side and carry an extinguisher, reposition tires, use always your seatbelt and be sure to have your National Driving Authorization or a Multiversal Driving License, failure to do this might cause you high fines with the police or even some time on jail, the fines should be paid at the local police department, in any bank or pharmacy under the “EasyPay” system which can be found in almost every town and village in the nation.

Culture & Society

Religion

San José Guayabal is a predominantly religious nation since ancient times but fairly liberal in their stances such as abortion (widely accepted), freedom of religion and another topics, presenting a wide variety of thoughts about divinity.

From the very beginning, on he epoch of the Eskimos, prevailed a kind of shamanism mixed with pagan rites in honor of the earth, moon and sun, entities of great importance to the Eskimos because of their dependence on agriculture and sun for planting and harvest of food and other goods for storage in the winter, which was worshiped by the moon and snow, who deserved rest and relaxation afforded to the Eskimos that time.

This Eskimo tradition of worshiping natural phenomena remained for more than 2500 years until the arrival of Spanish colonizers, who spread a new faith, Christianity in an easy way and without shedding innocent blood by religion. The Guayabalenses have been very receptive to the religion without falling into religious fundamentalism and fanaticism, this being a meeting point of unity and for society.

The Catholic branch of Christianity was the most professed in San José Guayabal to the arrival of the ethnic groups of Nordic origin like the Swedes and Finns who are predominantly Protestant, their influence on the people was so great that within two decades (1840- 1860) the percentage of Catholics dropped from 86% to 7%, and Protestantism dramatically increased to 89% of the population said to practice religion mainly based on the three pillars that characterizes San José Guayabal populace as a whole: Unity, Brotherhood and Passion.

Today the trend remains solid, the population is even more liberal than before in terms of tolerance creeds, admitting any theological thinking according to the Constitution of the Republic, severely condemning any act of censorship of religious expression or fundamentalism religious. Notably, church attendance has been increasing in the last seven years, bringing together a large part of the population; the missions of the churches typically perform community works across the nation or even international level people who need it most.

Language

Because being a multicultural nation, many languages are found in San Jose Guayabal, 31 to be precise, of which only five are relevant in their social use and only two are used by the government. At least a basic knowledge of Spanish language is more than useful in our nation but not essential, because 68% of the population has declared Spanish as their first language and 85% admit to have sufficient knowledge of the language. There are also four more languages in which the population has knowledge such as English (spoken by 70% of the population, 12% as their mother tongue), Swedish (spoken by 35% of the population, 4% as mother tongue), Russian (spoken by 26% of the population, 7% as their mother tongue) and Finnish (spoken by 17% of the population, 3% as their mother tongue).

The people of San Jose Guayabal are known regionally for the effort they made to learn new languages, speaking on average three to four languages at an appropriate level for communications with different people, according to them this is essential because knowledge is acquired different cultures and helps to get engaged with more people in The Multiverse.

Food & Etiquette

Food in San Jose Guayabal is very diverse, varying due to the presence of different ethnic groups that have imported their culinary culture to our nation, varying by region, and yes, there are dishes that are distinguished from others if we talk about popularity nationwide.

Eating habits in SJG tends to be foods with moderate calories, being mainly meat and some salads that are normally an accompaniment to the main course, where people normally waits for all to start to eat at the same, then they start to eat all at the same time the main course, as tradition, a toast is made by anyone at the table. It is considered impolite to leave food residue on dishes in case you are invited to a house to eat or social activities, is always appropriate offer to wash the dishes and glasses where you ate, this being a gesture of good education and thanks to the host (not always the person that is offered is done, is considered as a simple act of appreciation.)

The typical dish par excellence of San José Guayabal are Pupusas, is a food made from mass shaped like circle, stuffed inside with fried beans, cheese, pork rind, squash, blackberry. This is often accompanied by vegetable tanning and ketchup.
Other main courses are: Tray (Composed of roast beef with barbecue, rice, salad, soup and fries), Quesadillas, Coastal Chops (Cutlet, bathed with barbecue and served with shrimp), Croquettes (breaded meat, accompanied with piece of dough and rice) and Spaghetti. Among the salads are: Paisa salad (lettuce, avocado, omelet, egg, chicken, bacon and corn chips) and the “Mil Cumbres” salad (lettuce, tortilla croutons, chicken, tomato, corn and ranch dressing).

Football Culture

Football in San José Guayabal is the sport that moves the masses, on any day and at any time of day is normal to see children playing football in the streets of residential areas or football academies, the youth guys in the communities playing football in tournaments, or at academies of professional or semi professional teams, adults meet after the workday with peers and then perform matches, as a distraction from work stress and also the elderly and women, who do not hesitate to leave their detention work in order to enjoy the football. Through this we can deduce that as people get involved in football in an active way, so is his passion.

The passion for football is very excessive in our nation, for some it is cultural issue of pride support their team and others, is literally his own "religion" if you want to call it like that, many fans in the stadiums are directed to support his team in an almost unique way, the hostility in the atmosphere and tension is very high, the songs of hate towards the opponent and vice versa are very frequent, flares, pyrotechnics, giant banners to support the team, drums, trumpets and other musical instruments give much color to the organized fans in time of watching the local teams or the National Team, popularly known as "Barras Bravas" are very common, but accidents between the fans are very rare.

Discuss and be contrary to any guayabalense about football topics in public is something that will not be very pleasant, especially if the National Team is playing. In such cases, groups are formed and the riots start against the supporters of another nation, then this gives origin to the riots. Something forbidden by the laws of behavior in stadiums, if the perpetrators are caught by police, be of any nationality, the price to pay is high, from fines of 1,000 Coronas (NS $ 2,000) up to three months in jail, or if fatalities occur.

It is recommended to refrain from displays of hate and mockery against the home crowd, in order to avoid problems of any kind during your stay, note that to enter in the stadiums, fans are not allowed to enter water bottles, umbrellas, sharps, flagpoles or pencils. You can enter flares, banners and musical instruments with previous notice to the police (if you are from an organized “ultra or Barra Brava”), it is important to mention that you can find different food at the stadium, from ice cream to banquets of gourmet food, any kind of drink is available from the typical and highly alcoholic “Chaparro” to typical beers or wines.

Named after the neighborhood where it is located is the seat of the same name team (CD Barrio El Niño), champion of the Guayabalense league team and also one of the most consistent teams currently have seen how SJG qualified for their first World Cup in history with a dramatic victory on the last minute over The Archregimancy a couple of qualifiers back, and he saw how SJG was eliminated from the WC 69 qualifiers, a World Cup known as the "Cursed World Cup" or "Infamous World Cup" coming from Spanish "El Mundial Maldito" after that has hosted a Cygnus Cup Final some cycles ago and stills being one of the most famous venues in San José Guayabal.

The Western Pearl: Santa Ana

La Perla de Occidente (The Wesern Pearl) is a nickname that fits perfectly on this city, wide streets and lots of cultural hubs is what characterizes Santa Ana, apart of being a quite mild place in terms of climate, it's the third biggest city in San José Guayabal and never had a pretty good stadium until now, Trojana, a Québecois company acquired the rights to build a new stadium in Santa Ana in order to provide the local club CD FAS a good stadium at the height of their history and fan support through the time. Santa Ana is an industrial city but mostly dedicated to the research of renewable energy and sustainable development, the main industry in the city is wind energy, due to the privileged position of Santa Ana, at the top of the biggest mountain in a radii of 45 kilometers, that's why Santa Ana is also known as Ciudad de Los Vientos (Windy City)

Accommodations: El Molino Restaurant, La Perla Hotel, Fiesta Hotel & Casino, Restaurante La Pradera, Los Sauces Inn, Vacación Hotel & Resort, Cinco Cumbres Restaurant.

MD3: Ceni vs San José Guayabal
Round of 16: C1 vs D2

Santa Ana hadn't a good stadium in order to host a WC or a big game since a couple of years, in 2198, Trojana Ltd bought CD FAS, the local team and decided to make changes and one of these was building a new stadium near the outskirts of the city, permissions were granted and that's how the stadium was built in five years, it was inaugurated on 2203 and since then, CD FAS played in this venue, and turned it into an advantage, considering that they won two consecutive Liga Premier trophies, also witnessed an important moment when the Guayabalense NT sealed their first ever direct qualification as group winners in World Cup 72 in a narrow 3-2 thriller vs Sameba, as other stadiums in San José Guayabal. It hosted a Cygnus Cup final.

Overseas Region

The overseas region is a region with little history in relation to the rest of San Jose Guayabal, relatively unknown sources is something wrapped in mystery and charm to these two archipelagos, Rossana located in the north of Esportiva having the Cold city of Spesdorf as captal and considered a part of the Western Region and Paymina has the Sun Drenched Lulai, located about 1,360 kilometers off the coast of SJG and considered part of the Eastern Region. These are places that are opening to the world with the decision to take part in the host cities.

Travel

The only way to travel to the islands is by air because of its long distance from other parts of the country, if you are going to Rossana, make stops in Sakhalin to Rossana is the ideal, doing scales at SJG to Paymina is very appropriate due to the long distances between the two points.

Into the islands, a ferry can be taken to move between the islands, or also the trains which connects the main cities on the archipelago, especially in the island of Rossana, there's bullet trains that makes the trip faster and cheaper, you can rent cars to drive in the cities of the islands or take a taxi.

Places of Interest

Istiqlal Mosque, Paymina

The Istiqlal Mosque is the largest mosque in San Jose Guayabal, built over 700 years ago according to some historical records, is the main site of Islam in the nation, usually studies are about the Quran every day who want apart to take guided about the history of the mosque and its architecture views.

The Spesdorf's Arc, Rossana

It is an arc which some historical records was built over a thousand years ago at the entrance to what is now the city of Spesdorf, the capital of the German-speaking island of Rossana, according to the records is said that the arch was created to to protect the city against the hordes of invaders from different regions and islands.

Round of 16: B1 v A2.

A stadium recently built for the purpose of hosting the World Cup and will also host the Paymina Tigers FC, a future expansion team from the lower divisions in the leagues of SJG, with a capacity of 86,000 spectators, it becomes the Stadium with less capacity of spectators on the side of SJG, but with a home crowd that will be waiting for football watching shows such as those who normally happens during World Cups.

Location: Spesdorf
Capacity: 93,012
Altitude: 225 meters above sea level
Tenants: Spesdorf Region Government

MD1: Schottia vs Nephara

After being remodeled slightly to host the World Cup, the Spesdorf Arena is a stadium located in the suburbs of the city of Spesdorf, on the island of Rossana, built to house Spesdorf FC, a team that competes in the fourth division of San José Guayabal, is a place where the atmosphere of the fans tend to be very strong due to the enthusiasm of football fans in this city, many are proud to host matches on this stadium for the World Cup although others consider Rossana is a very remote place from other nations.

ROYAL KINGDOM OF QUEBEC

Transportation

To arrive in Quebec you'll likely just want to fly in to the city that you will be playing in. The 12 cities going to be hosting the tournament, with all of them possessing a major airport served by most major airlines, including the giant Quebecois duo of Spiritair and Aeroquebec groups. Landing to Quebec, however, is still going to be a huge challenge: International flights are permitted to land and take off, but expect many delays on both departure and arrival due to mother nature behaving madly.

If you insist on arriving via waterways, poor you. Due to the worst winter in 100 year's time this Winter, most ports (obviously not including ports at California City and ones on shores of Terra Henrius) are frozen and won't be used for transportational purposes.

While travelling inside country, there are main methods you can use for this. The railways here isn't as quick as it'd be with other nations (the maximum speed being 225km for the fastest train service), but they are extremely punctual/on-timerelatively punctual compared to other methods (one or two-hour delays are better than what you'd get in other options, with this bad of a weather), popularcramped (best option out of any right now) and frequent (one train per 30 minutes, with more coming due to demand), making it a very cost-effective and attractive option. Even with such situations the services in Quebec National Railways (QNR) are high-quality and well-maintained, so don't worry about your comfort while riding trains.

Quebec does possess a strong auto industry and cars are somewhat prevalent, so you can travel via cars if interested. This, however, is a very risky option for travelers due to icy and snowy road conditions in almost all highways and driving is not recommended. Same thing with buses.

As for aeroplanes, Flying between those cities are not recommended at all, due to weather conditions at all airports but California City and Gotham, making the flights very risky for even the most veteran of pilots.

Lodging

There will be some hotels of high-calibre (at least 4 star ones) available in those cities. However, those 4 cities being medium-sized cities, there will be some issues. The same will not be guaranteed with the visiting fans as there will be mass influx of Quebecois citizens as well, to watch the games. Therefore it is recommended to make reservations 3-4 months ahead of the tournament, in order to guarantee your reservation in the hotels around the city.

If you are still in trouble of finding hotel or motel suites, there will be hotels, motels and other modes of accomodation available at your expense, on towns slightly far away from the venues(50km-100km). For more information please contact Tourism Quebec or for more specific information any tourism agency of the city/cities you'll be off to(OOC: TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec if you have any questions or so).

Weather

Mainland Royal Kingdom of Quebec is located in Temperate and Polar regions, with the cities located in varying degrees of climate zones so all 4 seasons can be experienced each year, but with different extremes For those visiting anywhere but Gotham or California City it's very likely that the snowfall will be extremely frequent. As this tournament is ICly held during January, temperatures will be altered to following:

California City: It'll still be fine for California City. With snowstorm passing right to the north of the very southwestern corner of Manitoba province, all's good and usual. 15'C to 25'C, so get your surfboards and sunscreens ready!
Winnipeg / Trojanajara: -15'C to -25'C, with lots of wind and snow. Both cities face against a huge lake, which makes it even harder to move in times.
Kingston: -5'C to -12'CKingston's been known for having way too warm of winter for most Quebecois standard, but it's still pretty cold. Precipitation's pretty good, not as much wind but decent amount of snow.
Montreal / Quebec City / Sherbrooke : -15'C to -20'C. Not windy, but lots of ice and snow (70cm/day). Sherbrooke may be a bit colder due to the city surrounded by mountains, so expect slightly worse conditions there than in Q.C. or Montreal.
Halifax: -3'C to -8'C. Relatively warm. very windy and heavy snowfall though if it ever goes over 0'C, it turns into shitload of rain which isn't better either
Iqaluit: -45'C to -55'C. Good luck

This will not affect the train services, though it'll do more than enough job of freezing people up, as all of the games will be held outdoors.[/b]
Also this won't apply to Gotham, which is a temperate location but is located far south of mainland Quebec.

Languages

There are three official languages in this nation: English, French and Korean. All 3 languages are taught in school curriculum and with great depth, causing most of the population to be at least trilingual. Additionally, in this part of the nation there are some other First Nations languages being recognised as regional languages and are used+learned to great depth in schools, so please note this when you're RPing in Quebec. Most Quebecois you'll meet are extremely polyglot and that will show with way they speak.

When it comes to linguistic status on city that you're RPing on/about, you're more than welcome to TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec about it.

Money

The national currency of Quebec is Quebecois Dollar, which is fairly expensive. The current exchange rate is $3 NS for 1 Quebecois pound. With the nation being rich with huge economy, almost everyone will have at least has a good deal of money here. So please don't feel surprised if the products are much more expensive here than back home, excluding alcohol.

Things you'll need in your stay, prices in NS Dollars (NS$) and Quebecois Pounds (£)

-Hotel: NS$ 35-400, £12-135
-Public transport in the cities: NS$2-$5, £0.7-1.7
-Bus transport to different cities: NS$5-50, £1.7-17
-Train transport to different cities: NS$6-80, £2-28
-Ferry between lakes: NS$5-$12, £1.7-4
-Flights between cities: NS$65-150, £22-50
-Average cost of food: NS$12-45, £4-15
-Sports tickets: NS$60-600, £20-200
-Bottle of water: NS$9, £3 (Sale of bottled water extremely limited, with public fountains providing very low interest for the people)
-Alcohol: NS$3-150, £1-50 per keg
-Public phone: NS$1.5 per call, £0.5 per call

Cuisine

Quebecois cuisine has evolved through centuries of social and political change. Originating from dominant Korean and elegant French cuisine that came with settlers, as well as materials and existing food of the First Nations living in the area, Quebecois cuisine has evolved through a complex interaction of the natural environment and different cultural trends and is the best mix of it all.

Quebecois cuisine is largely based upon rice, other diverse kinds of grains, vegetables, and meats(in this area moose and caribou, and to rare cases bears). The meals are noted for the number of side dishes (banchan) that accompany steam-cooked short-grain rice. It varies on the personal preferences but often in every meal they eat at least some form of maple syrup, Kimchi and/or bread. Commonly used ingredients include sesame oil, doenjang (fermented bean paste), soy sauce, salt, garlic, ginger, pepper flakes and gochujang (fermented red chili paste). In this part of the nation, fish are caught off the rivers and lakes to be eaten in whatever the way one prefers as well.

Ingredients and dishes vary by region to region, with many. Many regional dishes have become national, and dishes that were once regional have proliferated in different variations across the country.
Meals are regulated by cultural etiquette, which are very hard to follow for even the average Quebecois due to all the processes they take.

TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec for any questions.

Religion

Quebec is a religiously diverse country, though divided when it comes to dominant regions. In the cities where the Baptism of Fire will be hosted, First Nations' religions are widely practiced, with Quebecois Catholic Church and Buddhism right behind. Due to these differences, all three levels of Government keeps some separation from any religions, though they still hold some influences in those levels and receive lots of funding. It is also not recommended to argue about politics or religion in Quebec, as political and religious apathy is not known....for most part.

Laws

Culturally and socially, Quebec is in bit of a mix. Another handy chart will be in place to explain some of Quebec's laws in place:

Recreational drugs: Legal, though selling them without licence can lead to up to $10,000 in fines and 5 years in jail.
Hard drugs: Illegal, with punishments up to $50,000 in fines and 15 years in jail for possession and consumption of the drugs
Prostitution: Legal, though people's attitudes about it will be very conservative in this part of the nation
Pornography: Legal, aside from child pornography(applies to any pornographic videos or anything else starring people up to 18 years of age). Possession of child pornography will land you straight in jail for 5 years, while production and distribution of it can lead to potential death sentence. So, don't try it as it's a big no-no.
Legal age for tobacco: Varies (16 in Val d'Or and Rouyn-Noranda, 19 in Churchill and Winnipeg, 18 in rest)
Legal age for alcohol: 16
Maximum BAC to drive: 0.03.
Saying the word 'Coconut': Legal

All the foreign citizens caught under the Federal and/or Provincial law will not be extradited, unless of a special order given by the Emperor, His Imperial Majesty the Jacques IX.

California City - The Cannabis Capital of the World

California City is the second-largest host city at only the 895,000 (city) and 1.85 million (metropolitan area, which overlaps that of Southern part of Winnipeg), but it's not without character. Located in the Southwestern corner of Manitoba province, where an hour-long drive from Winnipeg over the mountain range gets you into a very sunny, warm place, it stands as a city and region unique from rest of the country. Blessed by the sun, climate and wonderful soil, California region also stands out as the producer of nation's 45% of marijuana, which should translate to around 13.5% of Multiverse's weed production. Grown in plantations big and small, one can drive through the area and find the plantations anywhere one wishes to find (OOC: Think of cotton plantations in Southern US), showing its grand scale.

When it comes to the city itself, California City is the warmest city in Quebec, with over 35% of the people speaking Spanish or Portuguese as their primary language. The people here, blessed by sun and warmth, play lot more sports involving water and outdoor sports, causing Winnipeg Spartak to be one of the most, if not the most popular team on LigAnaia R49. Even right now the weather is 15-20'C above celsius, causing many vacationers to spend their time in Southwestern corner of Quebec. Make sure to enjoy your stay when you're around, because you'll need to get adjusted to rest of Quebec later!

Winnipeg

Winnipeg, provincial capital and largest city of Manitoba province, is the true regional centre and gateway to Western Quebec. The city, having a large First Nations and Guayabalense population, is hotbed for unique culture different than the rest of the country. When it comes to sports, it embraces its sports teams very well. Football is of no exception, with both Winnipeg team games always sold out and the team constantly raking me off the draws. Winnipeg is probably the most progressive city in the nation, with Greens dominating the provincial votes for past 2 decades. Expect the crowd to be largely consisted of the youth and early adults, but also with some countrysiders as well.

Trojanajara - The Contraceptives Capital of the World

Trojanajara is a city in Ontario, Royal Kingdom of Quebec, 1,500 kilometres northwest of Kingston and 890 kilometres east of Winnipeg. With about 178,000 inhabitants, Trojanajara is one of the province's smaller cities and the second-smallest city to hold a match in this Baptism of Fire. However, it is one of the richest and most connected of Ontarian-Frontenacois cities, due to its significance and isolated location: the city is known for the world-class contraceptives company Trojana Co. (responsible for 97% of Multiverse's contraceptives market share) its associated sports club Trojana Condommakers FC. It is also the home of Trojanajara Country Music Festival, a huge fest that brings over 1 million people every year, for 7 days of country music, food and lifestyle twice a year - July and January. Aside from that, the city lacks attractions due to its small size and isolation - the nearest cities in Thunder Bay and Sault St. Henri are 6 hours away by drive or train. Known for hyper-conservative but heavily loyal fans.

Kingston

Kingston is the fifth most populated city in Quebec, and the 2nd largest city west of Montreal. Despite its northern location on the Calania, it is one of the warmest cities in the nation due to its Southernly location and experiences four distinct seasons. It is considered to be a culturally diverse city because half of its residents are immigrants, one positive and negative aspect of the city. And among the over 150 distinct ethnic origins who are represented there, over 180 languages and dialects are spoken, making it the true ethnic basket of the nation. Over the course of its history Kingston's served as the economic centre of Southwestern Quebec (Ontario-Frontenac provinces), and has rapidly developed over last 50 years, making one of the most attractive cities to live in. The city, however, is notable for 2 major problems plaguing its status as a true Quebecois metropolis compared to its competitors: lack of cultural infrastructure and lack of integration between many ethnic groups.

When it comes to football, Kingston's one of the strongest points on professional level in spite of its irrelevance in grassroots level: only Beyreuth has a strong team (both Ryerson and Kingston have terrible teams) and its high school teams mediocre at best. But in spite of that the Argonauts games always sell out and with a winning organisation, the city rallies around its football team in Summers and early Winter. The fans there are expected to be professional and not overly passionate about the sport, but will explode on social and non-social media when asked to.

Montreal - The Heart of Quebec

While Quebec City may be the most historic, Montreal is the largest and probably the most dynamic city of Quebec. With the population of 12 million in the Greater Montreal Area, the city is the centre of Quebec's economy, culture, commerce, finance, industry, transportation and sports. Drawing international influences and population, the city boasts the likes of world-class medical institutions, business quarters, aeronautics and pharmaceutical industries, and a cluster of additional industries based on intellectual property and creativity, making a truly dynamic Quebecois city.

The Samseongoloondongjang, located in the heart of Koreana district just 15 minutes subway ride from Downtown Montreal, is probably the crown jewel of Quebecois football. Long the home of Montreal Koreana, whose days led by legends Alexander Newman and Ji Choon Kim have led to its decades of dominance in 1950s and 1960s, as well as 1991-2013 period, it is now remembered by the many as the House of all Montreal football. With this in mind, it's of no surprise that it got selected as 1st of 3 venues for Quebecois national football team this World Cup Qualifying Rounds not too long ago. It has hosted the 73rd World Cup final, 64th Cup of Harmony Final, as well as third-placer match for the AOCAF 47 and the aforementioned LigAnaian side. It may be the oldest of all Quebecois stadiums still standing, having built in 1909, but it has constantly renovated and cared for to make it one of the most advanced and historic at the same time. Expect the fan experience to be at a level perhaps cannot be reached by others in Quebec.

Sherbrooke - The Valley City of Poongpae

Surrounded by picturetesque Almagnac and Charmant Mountain Ranges, the city of Sherbrooke (population: 450,000) is the provincial capital of Estrie. Surrounded by mountains, rivers and lakes. When it comes to primary industries, education and tourism are the key industries in the cities, hence the province's title 'Cottage Country of Quebec'. There are several ski hills nearby and various tourist attractions in regional flavour, from wineries all over the province to the 145 kilometre-long Henri VIII Trail. The abundance of educational institutions in the city, as well as abundance of institutions focusing on traditional Korean-Quebecois culture, results in the city having a very large student population in the area, making the city even more unique.

Quebec City - Capitol

The nation's capital, most historic city, home of the Royal House of Jeongs, Royal Parliament and many government institutions. Bastion of traditions, Korean-Franco pride and classical antiquity. Quebec City is called the City of Light, and is one of the most romantic cities in the world. It is the national and global centre of culture, art, fashion and cuisine, as well as intellectuals who have come from all across the world, making it a true metropolis among global citizens. Culturally it is still with a strong Franco-Korean component and heritage; though significant influence does come from overseas, they often are absorbed into the greater Quebecois culture to be a part of it. It is a true place to be, and for anyone with ambitions and dreams of succeeding as intellectual or artisan, Quebec City is where you strive to find yourself in the position.

Halifax - The East Coast Metropolis

Bursting with mountains and beaches, hot springs and seafood, Acadie province's largest city of 2.5 million people is a thriving port city with many offerings. From casual tent bars and chic designer cafes in Gwangahn Bay to seafood markets in downtown with every species imaginable, Halifax is home to both the traditional and modern Quebec that many tourists seek to find. Rugged mountain ranges criss-crossing the city draw the background, while world-famous events like Dongnae International Film Festival (DIFF) and Acadiana Festival draw the city's fame and desire as a world-class city for all.

St.John's - Northeastern Point

Located on the easternmost and largest island of Quebec, this Newfoundland city of 2.15 million people is one of the largest in the country and largest in Atlantic Quebec by far. A city of Eireanners, it's a city that's been on hard times for large part of late 1900s, but has on a strong rebound session for most of 2000s due to offshore oil development. Nowadays the demographics are lot more diverse than it once was 30 years ago, and you'll be able to mix in with any groups of Gaelic descent you prefer to be around with. The corporate aspect is starting to be stronger in some places, but for most part the locals are still very welcoming, vibrant and gentle folks.

Unlike its status as a major Quebecois city, downtown St.John's is relatively low-rise, with the heritage laws placed to restrict destruction of heritage buildings in what's the oldest settlement on the Northeastern part of the country. With this, on top of hilly terrain and steep maze of residential streets, downtown St. John's is considered to be highly beautiful, with the houses painted in bright, vibrant colours.

Iqaluit - Land of Ice and Snow

Iqaluit is a city of 750,000 people, most of them Inuits. With average winter temperature of -27'C, It is by far the coldest major city in Quebec, located right in the Esquarian Arctic. Therefore, most of the transportation is done through subways and underground hallways, which are often well known for being insulating, as well as luxurious. The city is extremely well known for its love of hockey, having 25,000 hockey arenas and rinks in a city of 750,000, but football is well-followed with Iqaluit Red Army drawing huge attendance figures.

Gotham - Heaven and Hell on Earth

If Montreal is the city of dreams, and Quebec City the city of history, then Gotham (formerly known as Magnaeus) is the City of Nightmares. Ever since the fall of the Inevitable-part of Mertagne and the Quebecois colonisation, its history is a long and bloody tale of crime, debauchery (also called as Jeruselemism) and anarchism. So it is of no surprise to anyone here that it has the highest homicide rate of any city in Atlantian Oceania- barring Ruland because Ruland is just another level of things. It has suffered disasters of all kinds and is currently home to heroes, civilian polices, villains and of course corrupted people. For those here to attend the Baptism of Fire must remember that they need to stay in groups and of course only their stadium, restaurant or hotel 'cause their safety cannot be guaranteed in case they move out of time.

The Guns Of Winter

Chapter I: Nordskania In Flames

“One minute to go time,” said the soldier sitting at the end of the long bench, in the back of the transport helicopter that was rapidly on its way to the Vestanian front of the Nordskania War. The rest of the helicopter was deathly silent, nobody making much noise at all. They weren’t in the mood to talk, but rather, most of them were reflecting on the danger they were about to walk into. This would be the first major battle in months, and unfortunately for them, they were the ones who were expected to spearhead the assault behind the armored units that would be rolling in ahead of them. “Thirty seconds.”

There was more silence, and the helicopter touched down and sat on the ground for a few moments. The soldier in the front, Sergeant Klas Radic, stood up, and so did the rest of the soldiers in the transport. “Fifteen seconds,” said Radic, looking at his watch again as the seconds ticked away before the doors would open. The sounds of the battle could be heard outside, as the armored units fired their machine guns and cannons and engaged with the Pridnestrovians and Vestanians in Duradino. The attacking force belonged, of course, to the Nordskania Democratic People’s Republic. After solidifying their control of the eastern shores and of the region around Ryakova, they were assisting the Mountain Pact forces in one of the biggest offensives in the history of the country.

“It’s time,” Radic said, and the sounds of the battle grew louder as the back door of the transport opened and light flooded into the previously dark chamber. They were on the top of a grassy hill, in an open area with forests in front of them and mountains far behind them, and the armor was quickly pushing forward in front of them past the hill but before the trees began. The enemy forces were mainly hiding in those trees, but they were sparse enough that the armor units would be able to roll right through and advance towards their target, the Vestanian held city of Duradino. After the door opened, the men inside rushed out of the helicopter and into the open air, watching the trees for the enemy while keeping their guns up and ready to fire.

One of those soldiers was Corporal Nemanja Salopek, who had only recently enlisted and hadn’t previously been involved in any battles at all. For him, this represented a baptism by fire. He’d barely been trained before being sent out into the field, and now, only weeks after being deployed, his unit was spearheading the largest offensive of Operation Indigo Wave. “Keep your pace up,” someone else shouted to Nemanja, as he lagged behind the others when they rushed forward and started down the hill. They were supposed to get down the hill, take up position behind the armor, and then stop until the enemy was cleared or routed. But it was easier said than done. The plan had been for the armor to rout most of the enemy forces by the time the soldiers arrived. The Vestanians and Pridnestrovian units were putting up more resistance than what was expected, and the soldiers instead found themselves running straight into a battle.

“Give me suppression fire,” Radic ordered, and one soldier set up a light machine gun next to one of the IFVs and began spraying shots into the area around the trees, forcing the Vestanians in the front of the formation to at least take cover behind those trees instead of focusing on the attack. One of them had a rocket launcher, and fired it at the IFV nearest to Nemanja. Somehow, the rocket missed its mark and hit the hill behind them, causing a booming sound that shook the earth and made the young soldier trip up. The IFV fired back at the source of the rocket, gunning the enemy soldier down with its machine gun and slowly advancing forward, held up by the enemy suppression fire that was starting up. That was how this battle had been. They’d advance quickly, get suppressed, fire back, advance again, and then come to a halt to return suppression fire.

The soldiers raised their guns again and started firing into the trees, and Nemanja did the same, though his aim was as shaky as his hands were. “We’re going to need the air support,” said Radic, into his radio as the battle continued to rage. “We can’t really get the upper hand, they’re too dug in. Looks like there’s a trench just behind the start of the trees. How long is it going to take the strafing crew to get here?”

There was a brief pause in the talking, and then Radic nodded. “We’ll hold em until they show up,” he said, and then he turned to his men. “Alright everyone, we’ve trained for this. We’re going to hold the enemy in place and then there’s going to be a strafing run that should stun them enough to charge the trench. Hold your ground, no matter what. Don’t move forward or back, the goal is to pin them, not to defeat them before the support gets here.”

There was another boom as a rocket exploded, and the soldiers on both sides really dug in and tried to hold their ground. The soldiers on the Nordskanian side used the IFVs as cover, while the Pridnestrovians and Vestanians used the trees and the trench to protect themselves. Machine gun rounds were flying on both sides, from both machine gunners and from the Nordskanian IFVs. “We’re out of rockets!” Nemanja could hear a Vestanian shout, and that meant that the Nordskanians had the upper hand in the the battle. Their line pushed higher, pinning their enemies, for the next few minutes, and that was when the planes arrived.

The jets swooped in quickly, moving low to the ground, and the vibrations from their engines made the ground shake even for the soldiers they were aiding. Nemanja could feel them coming, not just see them, and when they were close enough, they aimed their weapons at the trench and fired a barrage of rockets and dropped a number of bombs on the enemy formation. The resulting bangs were the loudest of the day, and Nemanja could feel his ears ringing even though his unit and the others were pushed back to a safe distance away, with most of the combat happening at range. Small fires burned in the aftermath, but it was clear that there were few survivors, and that those who had survived were ready to run instead of standing and continuing their fight. They were now outgunned in addition to being outnumbered, after all.

The IFVs started forward again, firing their machine guns again, and Radic waved along the Nordskanian infantry to follow them. The Pridnestrovians and the Vestanian Protection Forces were routing by now, and that rout was being followed by the charging NDPR army, which was gunning them down as they ran. This front would be taken, certainly. After this unit, there were only a few VPF units holding Duradino, with much of their army being preoccupied with holding Fiergrad. The town awaited, and it was only a short march away, past a few more hills. This move to take Duradino, it was only the beginning. The tides had changed, and the Indigo Wave was rolling in across Nordskania. The only question was, would the Pridnestrovians be able to resist the offensive?

=====

“I never meant to make such a mess of things. Before all of this started, we were almost all under one banner, with the north being independent and the south being ruled by the Communist Party. I saw the poverty caused by communism and I also saw the effect that it was having on our people. It wasn’t helping us, and after doing much study on politics, I thought I could do better. I thought I could guide our nation with a strong hand and help us force our way into the first world. It didn’t really turn out that way. I’ve had to compromise my vision to get a sizable following, and then when I realized that was the wrong move, I fractured everything to have a shot at my dream.

I broke up the Rose movement and indirectly broke up the entire country by releasing dozens of different factions with wildly different agendas. The Communist Party fell, as I intended, but what replaced it can barely be called better. Everyone had their idea of what the new country should be, and that disunity was the reason why we had to burn Ryakova or surrender the capital to the remnants of the enemy. And when we burned Ryakova, all hell broke loose. I tried to stabilize things, to unite the nation under my banner and, as I said, guide us with a strong hand, but it turns out that power doesn’t come cheaply.

My forces fought for weeks just to get a small area of land that’s now boxed in on all sides by other states, and while I may hold the title of Duce, I don’t have much power at all. The people who own the guns own the power, and by that, I don’t refer to the Mountain Pact but to the people that put me in power here in the first place. My dream was to guide us into the first world, but now, I only find myself as the leader of two cities, and not a true nation. And because of what I did while chasing that dream, the rest of the country is under invasion and is more fractured than it ever was in the past. I haven’t helped the people of Nordskania, but instead, I’ve caused the biggest disaster in our nation’s history.

I’ve realized now, after I’ve already gone this far into chasing my dream, that I’m never going to achieve my goals. At least, not if I continue down this path. At heart, I’m not a politician. I’m a counterrevolutionary, and that’s always what I’ll be best at. And because of realizing that, I’m stepping down from my position as Duce of the State of Nordskania and giving it to my longtime ally and my trusted advisor Lyosha Kotov. Lyo, you’ve earned this. I hate to say it, but if I stay as ruler, I’m only going to make things worse. You haven’t seen the last of me, or my supporters. I’ll be back, eventually. But not like this.”

That was where the video of Darya Zharkov ended. It had been released in the early hours of the morning, and had been circulated across the country via the internet and the media in a matter of hours. The State of Nordskania, the youngest of the warring states that were battling for control of the island, would have a new leader for the first time in its short history. And Darya Zharkov, who was behind the initial revolution that started everything with the war, was nowhere to be found. She had reportedly already left Sopova, and her whereabouts were unknown. She’d promised to continue as a counterrevolutionary, but she hadn’t said anything about where and how.

And so for the second time, Nordskania was in flames while Darya Zharkov disappeared.

CASK Thorsborg wins first football championship of the Professional Era!

Thorsborg, VH - In a reminiscence of the great days of the late 1980s, when the bitter rivals of the two Army clubs ASK Landsmark and CASK Thorsborg faced off on the top of the league and split the top positions evenly between them from 1986 to 1989, the first season of the SFS ended yesterday with this exact same couple leading the bunch. This year's season was, however, extraordinarily close in its final rounds. Before last night, four teams still had a theoretical shot at the title with CASK being in the lead, two points ahead of ASK and Admiral, and three ahead of local rival Energie Thorsborg. The cards for the last round were dealt unevenly, though. CASK was facing the last placed and already relegated SK Chemie at home, while ASK had to travel down south to a Traktor St. Andrei struggling against a relegation match, and Admiral had to deal with another highly motivated top team, its own city rival ESK. Energie also faced a relatively tough task in an away game against Libertas Bergheim. Having a history of fiercest rivalry, half a decade of epic duels and the (on paper) easiest opponents, the focus of everyone laid on the two Army teams, but quickly the night turned more into a triumphant coronation of CASK Thorsborg. There was still hope among the supporters of ASK, who had a better goal difference going into the night and could have won the championship even if CASK drew their home game, while Energie and Admiral needed a win of the Chemiker to keep up their hopes. But it quickly showed that even a draw was out of reach.

In the beginning, the Landsmarker opened the game very aggressively. They knew about the CASK match running at the same time and hoped to put on pressure by an early goal, and so they did when Anders Kilde scored on a counter attack nine minutes into the game. With 65 points and a better goal difference (+17 vs. +11), ASK Landsmark briefly was the champion of Savojarna's first professional season. The tide, however, turned against them quickly. Only three minutes later, the visiting sector fell silent as CASK scored a leading goal in Thorsborg. The last hope fell from most ASK supporters as the first half hour had passed and Kjetil Torstensson had converted a free kick to a 2-0 CASK lead, making the required help from Chemie Frisks less and less likely. Minutes later, Storanov crossed a ball into ASK's penalty area, where the goalkeeper tried to punch it away but didn't hit the ball properly, enabling Vladimir Turgenyev to score the equaliser for Traktor. This now meant not only that CASK would win the title, but also that the second place of the Landsmarkers would be in danger. While Energie had lost most of its hopes based on the fact it would have needed not only a draw in Thorsborg, but even a Chemie victory, they lost their hope as well as Bergheim took a 2-0 lead just before the break. And finally, with the score still being 0-0 in the Storevik derby, Thorsborg began to prepare itself for a party.

The second half became one big stage for the Thorsborger as they went on to score two more goals against a Chemie that largely gave up itself. Knowing that even a victory would do nothing for them except pushing them to 19th place - which still meant relegation - FK Chemie did little to nothing to stop Thorsborgs efforts, and had CASK not attempted to amaze their fans with the most beautiful goals possible, there might easily have been six, seven or even eight goals for the champions. They also were a bit lucky when the Chemiker's captain, Thorfinn Saevarsson, failed to beat goalkeeper Jan Ottesen from the penalty spot. Ottesen fully admitted to have simply relied on luck after the game, but we have to admit that the interview with the new champion's goalkeeper was not exactly the most rewarding interview of all times, as it is to be expected after the coronation of a new champion.

Overall, this has shown that the world of Savojar football has not turned upside down by professionalisation as hoped by pretty much everyone who is not CASK or Dynamo. It is too early to claim the trading of titles between state teams will continue. While the championship of CASK and the fact that three of four international slots are occupied by state teams suggests it, there is also evidence for the contrary: Energie and Lok Jarnstad were able to largely hold themselves in the race, and Virkaja's SVV came threateningly close to the relegation game. Partisan had been almost as disappointing, and the Savojar Football Association seems to be actually trying to enforce its new transfer rules. However, insiders have been reporting a potential power struggle arising between the SFA's league authority and their superiors at the SSA (Savojar Sports Authority, for our new readers), who does not like the commercialisation of the football league. But for now, we devote our page to the new champion CASK Thorsborg!

Hustlers United

Chapter One: The Family

“I think we’re more alike than we are different,” said Stefan Rakocic, sitting across from his potential client at a restaurant in Ceneisis during their interview. After Allie Vacek had fired her previous agent, Xander Buxton, because of his failure to get her an offer from her hometown club, she had opened up the position for applications. And out of all of the ones who had applied, Stefan was the only one who she had actually decided to interview. This interview would either make his career, or it would blow it. He was running out of funds to keep up this agency of his, after all. This was what would make or break it; he needed one big name client that had a lot of cash right now, and that big name client was the young superstar from Anglatia. “I like to help clients that remind me of myself. And you, Allie, you remind me of myself, a lot.”

“Oh yeah? Well, what exactly about me reminds you of yourself?” Allie asked, cocking her head to the side in curiosity. “I haven’t heard anyone claim that I’m similar to a Redvali before. I’ve been called Nordskanian, because my last name sounds Slavic, but never Redvali.”

“Think about it. We have similar pasts. You grew up poor, I grew up poor. You grew up with no friends, I grew up with no friends. We both have rocky relationships with our parents. We both have perfect expectations for ourselves,” said Stefan. “Except you escaped your past by being really good at sports. I almost escaped by being smart and making it into a good school, Mount Maris University, but… That’s where our paths split. You made it big as an athlete, I couldn’t take college life and dropped out, and now I’m almost back to square one. Broke and hustling to make it, like you were before you got paid. We’re both the type of people that do whatever we need to do to put food on the table. And I think we’d work together well because of that.”

“I think you’re right about that, I wouldn’t have given you an interview if I didn’t,” replied Allie, meeting his eye and studying his face carefully. “I didn’t give you the interview because you’re friends with the Order of the Mountain and the others aren’t, I gave you the interview because you were the only one who applied that I can relate with. All the other applications were written like fucking legal contracts. You were the only one who talked like a normal person in your application. But, as much as I think you’re relatable, I’m going to need to know if you can even do the job. You might be the only agent of the bunch that doesn’t act like a lawyer, but you’re still only twenty one. You’re barely older than me, even.”

“I might be twenty one, but I’ve been connected to the sports world for awhile,” countered Stefan, somewhat defensively. “When I was sixteen, I did intern work under Francis Allan when he was at Castle. He’s something of a mentor to me, he let me spend a lot of time around the players and I did some stuff to help out with coaching. I know I’m young, but I’m no stranger to being around sports and sports business. At the time, I was playing gridiron football and I was a decent kicker, but that internship was when I realized that my talents were better suited for things off of the field than things on it. Even before I started up my agency, Hustlers United, which I did after I dropped out of Mount Maris, I did some work as an agent unofficially. I didn’t take any money, just helped out players that were trying to jump to the pro level and didn’t have someone that they could trust to represent them. Good agents are expensive, you know, and these college kids didn’t have the cash yet to pay them. You can ask them if you want, and they’ll tell you that I did good work for them. Just ask and I can give you a list of names-”

“I don’t want to hear from someone else, I want to hear your own side of the story,” Allie said, holding up a hand to tell him to stop talking. Stefan stumbled with his words and spoke quickly, even when he wasn’t especially nervous. Sometimes, it was hard to understand him because of that strange speech pattern. “If I go with you over everyone else, what are you going to be able to do for me?”

“I can promise that I’ll give you my full attention and that I’ll do everything I can to help you, including during times when there’s no contract negotiations to handle,” Stefan answered, honestly. “That’s my philosophy. I take care of my clients. I never just negotiate their contracts and then leave them on their own, especially when they’re adapting to a new place, like you are. And my support for them doesn’t rely on them making a ton of money. One of my clients, JJF, didn’t make any money at all and actually lost money for the first few years of our partnership, but I stuck with him and now I got him the top driver spot for both a domestic racing team and an international one. Let me tell you a story, Allie, about why you should sign with me-”

“You didn’t really answer my question,” Allie said, poking at her food with her fork and looking back up at Stefan. “You sure know how to use a lot of words without really saying anything, you know.”

“Just let me finish, alright? And then I’ll shut up and let you talk,” Stefan chuckled, wiping some sweat off of his forehead and shaking his long hair backwards and out of his face. “You want to know why I keep doing this agency work instead of going into an easier career? Because it’s like being a part of a family of athletes. I experienced what the inside of a locker room was like, what a bond between a team was like, when I played in high school and when I interned under Coach Allan at Castle, but I knew I would never last as a football player. I didn’t want to give that up, and so after I decided that I couldn’t take college life any longer and I dropped out, I put all the money I had left into starting the agency. I know this sounds cliche, but we really were like a family in those early years, and I know that being part of a group like this would be appealing to you-”

Allie held her hand up again. “How were you like a family? You’re a business. I don’t know many businesses that could be called families-”

“You would know why I say that if you were here when we started. When I first opened the agency, I only had four clients. I already mentioned JJF, obviously, but I also have three others. The ones you’ll recognize are Ash Volland and Johnny Saint Jesus, who play basketball and hockey respectively. Ash is going to enter the RBL draft soon, becoming the first woman to do so in a decent amount of time, and Johnny is still on his rookie contract,” said Stefan.

He paused, before continuing. “Right now, we’re riding off of Ash’s sponsorships. Before that, which was last year and not long after I dropped out, we didn’t have any income at all and we were actively losing money. Johnny was barely getting paid because he wasn’t a high ranked prospect, JJF was still racing as an amateur, and Ash didn’t have many sponsorships beyond a few local ones. For most of that year, I illegally lived with Ash in her dorm room at Castle-Valle Rojas because I didn’t have enough money for my own place. Later in the year, Johnny got a bigger place in Avgaria and both me and Ash moved in with him during her college break. We’re not just an agency, everyone here is like a brother or a sister to me. And since I know you’ve talked in the past about how you don’t have a good relationship with your family, I think you would like working with us. We don’t just do business, we do stuff together as friends also. I used to be like you, with no friends or family that I could talk to, but I found that in this business. So now, I’m trying to offer the same thing to you.”

Allie paused now, leaning forward with interest and examining his face again. He was being genuine, as far as she could tell. His story interested her, because it was rare that she came across someone who was truly relatable. “Really? What did you have to do to make your family stop talking to you? Or were you just never close to them?”

“They’ve always expected a lot of me, because they expected me to grow up and get them out of poverty, but… I’m kind of an underachiever, in a way. I got really good grades in high school and got a scholarship to go to Mount Maris, but I did pretty bad there. They wanted me to be a lawyer and I wasn’t interested… I never was able to focus in college because it wasn’t something I wanted to do, and they were pissed when I got together with Ash and Jeremy and dropped out to start my agency. They don’t think it’s going to work or make any money, and we sort of don’t talk now,” Stefan explained, before taking a long gulp of iced tea. “But it’s fine, I’m not an outcast like I was in college. I have friends in the agency and this is how I’ve met some of the best friends I know. You’ve posted online about being lonely in Ceneisis, but I think that wouldn’t be a problem if you were with us.”

After another few moments of silence, Allie finally spoke again and smiled. “You know, we are more similar than I thought. If we weren’t, I would probably say that you’re full of shit and that you’re only saying this stuff to get me to sign with you. But somehow, I can tell that you’re different, that you really have been through the same things as me. You’re right, we would work well together. How about this? I’m going to make my decision next week. Before I do, we can have another meeting and I can meet some of these clients of yours. If it turns out that you’re right, and I would get along well with them, I’ll sign with you. You’ve been here to see the place where I’m staying, so how about I head to your country and see how it is over there? And I’ll take the only family members that I’m still close to with me, because I still feel guilty for not talking to them for awhile.”

“That’s fine by me,” said Stefan. “I’m glad we see eye to eye. We might be in different businesses, but we’re both survivors. We’ve both experienced rejection from our families and from others, we’ve both experienced not having the things that others have, and both of us have had to hustle every day to get out of it. Survivors stick together… That’s why I named my agency Hustlers United. It’s easy for one of us to spot another, and you? You’re definitely one of us.”

1 Parliament Street
Goldlion City, Tumbra

It was time for another Cabinet meeting.

"The first order on the agenda is...the recent declaration of war of Zambanana on Zuidafrikaanerstaats," said the Prime Minister, wearily. An accountability scandal featuring the Transport ministry had recently blown up in the news and, as usual, he was receiving all the blame for it. A farming subsidy scandal last year. Accusations of slashing benefits earlier this year. And now this...

"Before this goes to a debate in Parliament and the Social Democrats fuck it all up, should we go to war or not?"

"With all due respect, Mr. Prime Minister," the Chancellor, Ryan Knightley began, "Should the Zuid military not be able to hold the Zambananans off?"

"That's what the Ministry of Defence thought too," the gruff-looking Defence Secretary, Edward Dawkins replied. "But it seems they're stronger than we thought. They're already at Pretoria and are looking set to continue their rampage. What Mbukane has done is madness."

"Well. The cost of such an invasion would be massive. And war in these days is looked upon as more of a...barbaric activity than anything," Knightley began to reply. "Not to mention what happened the previous time we went to war..."

"We didn't go to war. Mark Hughes did. James Earle knowingly funded those damn terrorists to take down the Mesopotamian dictator and Hughes tried to fight them back. If we go in there, defeat the Zambananans, and then pull out quickly, we'd be seen as heroes," mentioned the Foreign Secretary, Nelson Roberts. "Furthermore, MI7 has given us a 93% chance of successfully repelling the invasion."

Several murmurs around the Cabinet table began as the Deputy Prime Minister turned to the Home Secretary, who had kept unusually quiet. They both nodded.

"That's a 7% chance of a quagmire and an international defeat we face. Frankly, I wouldn't take it. It's not worth it."

"You're too little of a risk-taker, that's why you're at the Chancellory. A safe pair of hands..." Roberts remarked, seemingly nonchanantly and yet his voice dripped with barely concealed venom.

"You haven't thought of the things we'd have to do! A Military Administration, helping the economy to rebuild, disarming the Zambananans, et cetera...all this costs money, and if we're going to have to spend money, we're going to have to spend it inwards or the Nationals will be all over our asses! You haven't forgotten why they're not in government with us, have you..." Knightley was growing ever angrier.

"For the record, Ryan, I do know. I do. And yet it is almost something of an obligation to our allies that we go to them in their hour of need. I will also remind you that you are not the Foreign Secretary."

"Enough," the Prime Minister said, waving his hand. The two men fell silent immediately. "Ryan, I know you have our country's best interests at heart but I will have to go with Nelson's suggestion. If it's defeated in a vote..."

"Michael, if it's defeated in a vote we'll be seen as fucking warmongers and the SDP will be seen as fucking heroes!"

"If it's defeated in a vote, we'll hear no more of this issue."

"Tough luck."

"All those in favour of this, raise your hands..." A flurry of hands went up. "And all those against, now..." Less hands went up.

"It's settled then. I'll bring this to the Speaker. Albert, take note. The second item on the agenda is the..."

State House, Mbare, Zambanana
A speech by President Joseph Mbukane

Citizens of the Republic, Ministers, Members of Parliament.

For many long years, our beautiful country, located in the southern part of the world, has fought the tyranny of the white people. When I was young, the one thing I wanted to do was to excise this country of the white people, who for so long lay waste to the environment, enshackled our people under the guise of colonialism and attempting to squeeze our nation of its natural resources.

We, as a people, drove them out of this country and made it our own, and our country has flourished ever since. We, the dark-skinned people of this Continent, finally had a place to call our own.

And while the white people stayed on and decided to help our nation, they soon tried to take this country back for themselves, so they could go on their continued conquest of enslaving and oppressing the majority of people here.

We, as a nation, collectively drove them out. We did so bravely, and they all fled down south.

That is the main point of my speech today. The nation down south, Zuidafrikaanerstaats, claims to be a beacon of multicultralism and is on offer for the world to see. That, my countrymen, is not true. They are ruled by the white people! You say their President is black, but in reality he is controlled by the white people to do their willing. That is why we will need to liberate the black people of the nation. That is why we will be going to war with them.

For the freedom of the black race, for the freedom of the country, for our prosperity and freedom!

Undoubtedly, this war will take a toll on us. We will have less food to eat, less luxuries and so on. But my people, we must remember that these sufferings are tempoary, for God will bring us the rewards for suffering for a short time. When we take over the South, the food will be plenty and we will all have good lives.

Our military is already on the frontiers of invasion. All citizens are required to contribute to the war effort, and these will be elaborated upon in the special news programme after this.

Good luck, and good night.

An adventure to find myself
The unraveling of my life: chapter 1

My name's Pietro, I'm 38 years old and I come from Juvencus. Sounds pretty simplistic, eh? It's cause it is, I'll try to show you some life experiences, my way to maturity and how I'm still trying to find 'myself'.

I was born in a village by the mountains, called Santa Marina, to a poor family. I am the 4th brother, the youngest member of my family, all of my siblings used to work to get money for the family so we could live. Back then, there was no public schools in Juvencus, you had to pay to get to school. When I aged 6, public schools became a thing and my family were able to send me to a local school, build for the instance the summer before. I remember nothing before the age of 6, rather than I started talking when I was around 1.

I fondly remember my first steps at school, my father was getting me there, he told that I'd learn how to talk and how to write properly. My siblings were already adults and were unable to get to school, I was my family's last hope. There was a lot of pressure going on me. Back then though, I hadn't realised the severity of all this, I was really excited for my first day at school. We were a small class of about 10 kids. Our teacher told us to say our names, I think her name was Miss Luisa. Every single kid sounded much smarter than me. They said their names so fast and right. Then it was my turn. Miss Luisa asked me for my name, I didn't know how to pronounce it right. I struggled "My name's Pi-pi-etro", the whole class laughed at me, since then I was a really shy kid. There was this kid Marco though, that didn't laugh, instead he went to console me. He actually was pretty fine with my difficulty to pronounce my own name. He said "You'll get used to pronouncing your name and it won't be that hard." I laughed.

A few years afterwards, being able to say stuff right, possibly write them right as well, luckily. Our teacher told us we should learn a second language, I was the only one who laughed hysterically, I wasn't sure about that, but on the other hand, I was a 10 year old kid, what would I know? My teacher told me "If you're going to laugh as loudly, we'll see if you can learn the drawkish script as easily." I shut my mouth, I was intrigued by the language called Drawkish script. - Drawkish script? What's that? Seems interesting - I thought. She brought in some other teacher, he had experience with the drawkish script, or drawk, as he lived in Drawkland for a while.

"Hello kids, my name is Mister Cesare, I'll teach you how to speak Drawk, it's one of the most important languages in Sonnel, many people are speaking it, you'll need it in your everything, especially talking to Drawkians."
He then used his heavy Drawk accent and said "Ayeo, ent ell voh?" then told us "This means 'Hello, how are you?' in Drawk, repeat after me. Ayeo, ent ell voh?"
Then we all said "Ayeo, ent ell voh?" it was all so new and interesting to me, never heard of any of these words before and then, here I am. He then kept going telling us. "In order to answer back, you need to say "Arel mat, pan, halvoh?" which means "I'm fine, and you. Just note kids that halvoh doesn't mean 'and you?' but they'll get to know you're directly speaking to them." I took notes as fast as I could. I needed to know, it was a passion for me.

Over the next few years I dedicated myself to the drawk language, I needed to be fluent, I needed to be a good writer and so that's how it got to be. At high school, when I was aged 15, I found something that could give me a break from all this dedication, she was a magnificent girl and she actually knew how to speak drawk perfectly, I found it so attractive on her. Her name was Angela, she could be my only girlfriend and future wife. Together we'd study drawkian and every other school subject. She was more intrigued by the populace's lack of short people, since everyone in Drawkland is 2 meters tall, or about 7 feet. But at first, I was really shy and I couldn't get close to her being scared by the fact I could get rejected. Whenever I approached her I could only say "He-hey." and then I walk away really fast.

One day she got curious to why I was walking fast, I really got scared she found out, which she actually did but she kept on being all secretive about it. After I told her my casual "He-hey." and walked away she would shout "Pietro! WAIT!" she'd run towards me, she told me "What's going on?" I blushed, I swear my face had gotten really red, I was unable to talk, I breathed heavily and I actually confessed my liking to her, pretty simply. As far as I can recall, it went something like this.
"Hey, uh. I don't know why I'm shy but there's something I need to tell you. I really, really like you, that's what's going on." I thought she'd leave me, possibly get mad that I didn't tell her before, but she just hugged me and left. I blushed once more, I couldn't stop thinking of that hug, I was way too excited. I couldn't wait for the next day to get to talk to her once more.

The very next day, she was there, sitting with her friends, I was with my buddy Marco, that I previously stated, he saw me staring at her. He told me. "Go at her, you've told me you like her, you've told her you like her. She hugged you, go at her, she doesn't bit." then he pushed me towards her, he waved at her and said "He's all yours, I'm going to eat." then that useful bastard left. I was just standing there, in front of her and her friends. She greeted me, I greeted back. She hugged me once more, I blushed, all her friends started laughing. She told them to cut it off and they did. I didn't know what was going exactly, but I was liking it.

A few days later she got sick, she didn't come at school, I was a very sad guy, my buddy Marco was there for me. He was always there for me, just like my older siblings, when they were able to see me and not have to take care of their kids. What was worse is that the very same day, my 2nd brother, Paulo, died to a car crash on the way to home, so did his wife and kids. I got into heavy depression that couldn't seem to end and the only sparks were when I saw her.

Alliance Prepares for Tournament Rush; Qailpyme to Qailpymezo?

Scattered across the multiverse, the Qailpyme members of Qasden, Islana Lunigo, Parodys, and Mercredi, have independently fought their ways through each of their regional tournaments. With very little success, the alliance have only just gotten throght the first wave of the incoming tournament rush.

First and most important of the rush is the 77th World Cup, a grand edition staged in Quebec and San Jose Guayabal this time around. After a relatively ok performance in CoH68 and a total meltdown at AOCAF52, Jon Merritt and the Vans will have to fight harder than ever before if they want a shot at advancing. For Merritt, failure could mean the end of his career as the NT coach.

"I think we can all agree that 76 was a bust, as was both AOCAF 51 and 52. We even bailed out early in Aeropag. But we're not here to planespot anymore. Over the cooldown, the Qad team has strengthened its overall speed and skill, and we've even managed to tackle a few more opponents along the way. When the groups are announced for 77 [qualifiers], it'll be serious business time. 18 games is a lot to endure, but if that's what it's gonna take for me to stay with this team and to keep repping my country proud, then so be it.".

Talks with U21 NT coach, Boulevard Drucati, are being made currently as he'll act as the NT's assistant coach for the qualifiers.

Elsewhere in the alliance are the Mercredites of the Mercredi NT. After successfully reaching the Round of 16 in the Cup of the Futurnites, the Enticers finished with the best performance of any Qailpyme team in the regionals, nipping over Parodys who crashed and burned in their last group stage match against Pridnestrovia in South Yerfilag. With their achievement, they will represent the alliance at the 2nd Globe Cup of Soccer, a tournament which previously annhilated Islana Lunigo. While intrigued by the idea of hosting, the Mercredi FA president, Paul Ferdeaux, had turned down such possibilities.

"I think having a tournament in Mercredi would be an amazing treat to its citizens. Indeed, but with hosting comes economical and political problems, and after the fiefdom failed to provide a live performance in Normandy and Picardy, it'll probably be awhile until the fans are ready to witness it here. Instead, what we will do is travel to wherever it will be, take the trophy, and prepare for the next Cup of the Futurnites.". -translated from Mercredite French

It is rumored that, should Mercredi win GCoS2, they will make their WC and BoF début appearances at 78. However, there has been no real confirmation from Mercredi nor any of the other alliance associations.

Back in Qasden, while some may be preparing for war in the qualifiers, much more attention is focused on the 26th World Lacrosse Championships, held in Qasden. Playing out of Drewby Park in Taxson, the smallest stadium of the venues, the Vans managed to narrowly achieve 2nd place over the Southern Democratic States and progress into the knockouts. While the 12th seed, the Qads will face debutants, Lisander, in the round of 16 at the Centre de Solis in Fyre. May Maggie be on their side tomorrow night.

In other news, Qad WGPC racer, Kurt Censki, has officially signed with McPahan Racing for the upcoming 15th season of the prix. Shocking much of the competition, officials, and himself, Censki had performed well enough in the trial to strike a deal with the Audioslavians as the second driver. Sayano Souzare, the first driver of McPahan originating from Hodori, was chosen after the country's own Alexander Lund signed with Wilson Grand Prix Engineering of Krytenia. The first race of the Grand Prix is scheduled to be held in Aels next month, with the first test race held in Taeshan coming in hot. Let's hope Kurt can show everyone McPahan chose right.

Last but not least, the Dictatorship of Lanzo had formally announced its intentions to compete in the 77 qualifiers, but were later waitlisted from the contest. Despite the failed attempt, the government and FA believe that the nation should be admitted into the Qailpyme alliance. Not only the admittance, but the two governments demand the alliance's title to be changed from "Qailpyme" to "Qailpymezo", as they believe they're just as important as everyone else whom are actually in the alliance. As a member of Ultimaverse, the dictatorship has yet to compete in any actual form of competition, and in a recent poll, 65% of the alliance believes the Lanzo association would show no effort in actual contribution into the team and therefore reject the idea of allowing them access. Earlier today, Qailpyme released a multiversally public poll to determine Lanzo's discussion into Qailpyme. The link to that can be found here.

That's all for now as we anxiously await the World Cup qualifiers. Will the Qads thrive in WLC26? Could Mercredi succumb to success in GCoS2? Only way to find out is by checking out our other news stories. Stay tuned, stay updated, and stay alert for our future reports, freshly handpicked from the 77th World Cup Qualifiers!

Baptism of Fire Endgame: Kick Corps 64

Postby Drawkland » Sat Jan 28, 2017 10:34 pm

This was crossposted to the BoF thread for obvious reasons.
Another article RP with friendly results and group preview will be written once the group draw occurs, for obvious reasons.
The roster for the Kick Corps, shaken up a bit for the Qualifying campaign, will be posted before the group draw if I can help it.

Drawkland wore "home" kits against Great Caledonia and North Hybernia.
The Caledonians don't have official kit images but they wore orange and black kits.
Perhaps we should've worn Away kits for the ultimate color contrast, but nahh. Black and Red Forever.

And so, despite being deflated from the loss in the Semifinal to Amnarei-asud, the Kick Corps of Drawkland still had the chance to at least somewhat redeem themselves in the consolation prize known as the Third Place Playoff. And still, the Corps got to play on the Final Day of the Baptism of Fire 64, which is not only what was expected (despite the obviously different circumstances), but also better than 28 other unfortunate teams who came to Mercedini and Bonesea only to have their hopes crushed. We have a lot to be thankful for. And, while we're on the subject, we salute all the teams that got eliminated early. Great job on making this tournament as cool as it was, and good luck in your Qualifying Campaigns. Class of 64 represent!

Wow. That was uncharacteristically emotional and lacking in snark.1 Moving on to the rest of the article. So what exactly happened in the match? If you haven't watched the match,2 noticed the text color on the side, seen the results somewhere else, or noticed the general demeanor of you more sports-following compatriots, we'll try to keep this one under wraps until you get to the end.3

vs GREAT CALEDONIA and NORTH HYBERNIA
So, the Corps4 had to leave the beautiful and scenic Mercedini, and instead travel by air to the far-flung Bonesea5 for the Third Place matchup. They were playing the The Boldpark which isn't the biggest of their stadiums6 at 15,310 seats, but was definitely the heart of their culture and such. Sort of like National Pitch is for Drawkland. Except that stadium has over 150,000 seats. Hey, multiplying by 10 isn't such a big difference in the big picture. Anyway, despite many overly-eager fans who could not attend due to having already bought tickets to the Baptism of Fire Final, there was still a big presence in the small stadium. It's probably good the capacity was pretty small anyway, since not as many were able to make the (expensive) trip to Bonesea for the match. Regardless, the stadium was still majorly Drawkian, as the Caledonian, Boney, and other crowd was taking up about a third of the stadium, while there were almost exactly 10,000 Drawkians in attendance in the stadium and another several thousand surrounding the stadium for extra effect/had enough money to get to Bonesea but didn't buy the actual tickets in time.

And with the rivalry between the two sides as big as it was, it was a surprise they didn't burn down Spittalsea.

To start the match, Great Caledonia's Celts got the ball. They spent a bit of a hard drive to start off the game, but definitely not as aggressive as the Corps had been used to due to the Celts being more defensively-minded than the heavily offensive teams the Corps was used to playing and being. The game got off to a rocky start, however, as a particularly tough and good shot on the goal by Great Caledonia's Anton was saved miraculously by Savannah Everett. This would've been a minor inconvenience, but the attacking centre-mid became really angry, thinking that his shot deserved to be in the goal and that Everett's save was merely a fluke. He ended up sending a string of curses the way of Everett, and despite CZ Starling the referee's really liberal stances on carding, Anton's verbal assault was so terrible and heated that he was forced to give the player a card to stop the onslaught, as there seemed to be no end to it. This would've been bad enough, but Savannah stepped up the ante, and as soon as Anton was walked away by Starling, she literally barreled away from the goal and trucked Anton into the ground. She began her own verbal assault, assuming that Starling would leave her off the hook, and continued to shove him around after he stood back up. Starling, regrettably, pulled a red card on the unsuspecting Everett, giving the Corps their second red card in its existence and in the last 2 games. To compound matters, a moment after the sending off, Ellzidan came up to Starling and started a discussion with him. This probably would've ended normally, but with the already-bad reputation Everett had put the Corps into in the ref's mind, as well as his already-spoiled demeanor, he carded the Elf for dissent ("being too damn pushy") and finally got the match back underway.

With 3 cards in 3 minutes, both teams decided to play more conservatively. However, the Corps had a dilemma now. With Savannah, the goalkeeper no less, out of play, the Kick Corps had no way to defend the goal. After some deliberation,7 Michael Starre decided to sub out Seon Yann-Slater for Jessie Peterson, so that there'd at least be somebody guarding the goal. When asked about the choice post-match, Michael said "I knew that we needed to score and we needed to score big, and if we subbed out a striker then we wouldn't be able to achieve that. I put a lot of faith on Nicole and Sarah."

Peterson's first test came about 5 minutes after she was put in, when Maggie Johnstone of the Celts got an insane pass interception and passed it deep to Kevin O'Maoilsheachlainn,8 who had a fast break on the goal. Peterson, of course, was jittery and not on her top game, and the Caledonian netted the ball before she could really correctly react. All the action in the early game and there was Great Caledonia and North Hybernia, up 0-1 in the 19th minute. The Corps had to answer. They had to stay in the game before it rolled away from them.

And that they did. A bit of possession changing hands in the middle of the field occurred before Drawkland really got a hold on the ball. By the 30th minute, the Corps was staging an attack on the Caledonian goal. Jennifer O'Byrne of the Celts was defending well, but she couldn't hang on to the onslaught forever. Soon, Jackie Crawford was seen working her way through the Caledonian defense, expertly dodging the zones of the defenders and breaking through. She passed the ball out to Katie Madison, giving a short call to her, and Madison knew to immediately fire the ball back. With the extra ball momentum and the attention of the defenders momentarily diverted, Crawford's shot penetrated right through the box and into the goal. The crowd went wild of course, in both emotions, and the score was 1-1 late in the first half. And with that, the Caledonians got the ball back for the next kickoff, but the Drawkians had other plans for the ball. As soon as it was kicked off, Madison, and Ellzidan immediately closed in on the player who currently had the ball, Doireann O'Donnghaile.9 She panicked and kicked the ball out desperately for a pass to a teammate, but instead the ball found itself at the feet of Cam Cross. Cross immediately ran off with the ball, going towards the goal, but by the time the defenders caught up, she instead flicked it behind her to Corrie Archer, who was open and therefore cruised straight towards the goal and fired it in, the unsuspecting and unprepared O'Byrne unable to make the stop, one minute after she failed the first time. 2-1 Drawkland, and they were starting to make the Caledonian team nervous.

The game score stayed the same until right after halftime. Taking a page from the Corps' playbook seemed to work well for the Caledonians. Immediately after the kickoff, the Celts rushed off of the line and brutally attacked the Drawkian side. The Corps really was having a hard time dealing with the uncharacteristically hard push, especially because of the depleted defense. And it showed a minute after the kickoff when Christiano Fernando scored to tie the match up at 2-2. This was triggering PTSD in probably every member of the Drawkian crowd. And probably warm, happy memories for the Caledonians in attendance. Either way, 2-2 is a scoreline many agree shouldn't stick around for a minute short of half a game. And yet, it almost did.

Neither team managed to stage a good attack on each other's goal after the shock shot on the Drawkians. The ball continued to get dangerously close, and then falling back again or getting taken to the other side. It wasn't until the 80th minute where the lethargic Kick Corps got the ball and began an onslaught on O'Byrne and the Celts. The tough match with a defender down had taken the Corps for a loop, really putting like quadruple the pressure on them. But it all ceased to matter on this offensive drive. This is where many said that Starre's Subbing gamble paid off. The hardcore forwards weren't looking for an even more tiring 10-man Extra Time, and sure as hell weren't gonna let the Celts have a penalty shootout. They had crossing passes, long shots, quick flips to change direction, and started ripping up the Caledonian defense. The defenders started to make mistakes, and were left guessing as to how the Corps would truly attack. Eventually it was Madison10 who made the hard effort on the goal. The shot was deflected by O'Byrne, but the ball spun out behind the line and the Corps got a corner kick. Madison took the kick again, and it looked like she was going to try and get an Olympic Goal, as they call them, attempting to net the ball directly off a corner kick. This wasn't the case though. The ball looped up and spun, but the trajectory was too flat. This ended up being intentional, though. For far behind the tangle of defense and offense trying to get at the ball, stood Cam Cross in all her striking glory. She took in the flight of the ball, reared back, and then kicked the ball as soon as it met her position on the pitch, which caused it to spin and lurch at high speeds in the opposite direction, going straight into the practically completely-open goal. With that, in the 87th minute, the Corps had taken the lead, thanks to the rookie Cross.

This was slightly soured with Archer being carded a minute later for "excessive celebration,"11 but the Corps switched into extremely defensive mode, and parked the Corps-Air plane right in front of their goal. Even missing a lady on the field, Drawkland would not back down, and the Caledonians suffered their first loss since their 0-1 crusher to Hernton in Matchday 2 of the Baptism. This as well put the teams' rivalry to a 1-0-1 record, and even better that the Corps managed it in Full Time rather than barely12 winning out a penalty shootout. And it was way better than a loss in the third place match, which is what happened after the last time Drawkland lost to Great Caledonia and North Hybernia.

PLAYER PERFORMANCES
Even with being a lady down early, and being the first match for the Kick Corps involving substitutions of any kind,13 they really seemed to excel. Maybe the pressure had a reverse effect, but still. Here's how the girls did over the course of this semi-triumph.

Everett: 5.0 Savannah was only in the match for 9 minutes, but she blocked 3 shots and still kept the game scoreless for as long as she was in. Also, didn't really give us a reason to count her down.
Peterson: 8.5 Jessie could've done much better than she did, giving up 2 goals is no good performance, but she wasn't exactly expecting to be thrown in, and thus a lot of it can be attributed to blind luck and unpreparedness.
Arrowsword: 9.3 Sarah has always been a commanding force in the backfield, and with a player missing, she helped cover both the center and the left side of the pitch, and was very good at keeping chemistry with Nicole Warren to make sure the effectively 2-3-4 formation still worked. Expert playing.
Yann-Slater: 3.1 It was a no-brainer that Seon was replaced, really. She isn't necessarily bad, per se, but when you need to take out a defender to keep the match viable, she was the clear choice.
Warren: 9.0 Nicole stepped up to the plate14 with the disadvantage and proved her worth on the team. We expect to see more of her as the years go by, and hopefully much more immediately with a well-defended World Cup Qualifying campaign.
Talla: 8.4 Rebecca was out of the way for most of the match but provided no weak link on the left flank, helping keep the Caledonian attack on the obviously weaker left side at bay.
Ellzidan: 9.0 Ellzidan did as she always does. We can forgive the errant card by virtue of her leading the Corps to victory by ensuring the Corps stayed on track despite the disadvantage. She also stepped in to help defend better, and that was a huge help.
Foss: 8.4 Siv, like Rebecca, was not really a key player in the match but playing alongside Ellzidan longer than anyone else puts her in a good position to score player points. And that she did today.
Crawford: 9.2 Jackie opened up the books and was an incredible assister for the whole game, and the match probably would've ended very differently if she wasn't in there.
Archer: 9.0 Corrie was a very savvy player to pick up the second goal a mere minute after Jackie, and of course we can appreciate a player wild enough to remove her shirt after a goal or a win.15 Good performance despite the fact that it left room to improve.
Cross: 9.4 Cam proved that she belongs on the starting line of the Kick Corps, and hopefully we'll see her there as the World Cup Qualifiers begin. Scoring the winning goal with a smart move and being an overall boon to the forward line makes her the Woman of the Match.
Madison: 9.0 Katie didn't score today, even though she was projected to. She still made the most opportunities despite none of them coming to fruition, and for that she gets a decent score.

Team Score: 8.84 The Corps really outperformed their expectations out there, and when pitched a curveball14 early in the game and playing 10 vs 11, they went out and improved themselves massively. This 8.84 blows their previous best out of the water, and we can only expect them to get better from here. Okay, maybe not THAT much better, not in our first cycle, but you get the gist.

RECAP
Only losing one match16 really proved the Corps' composition, and despite not getting the obvious result they were gunning for, they still really showed themselves to be future powerhouses. We don't expect them to be powerhouses in this immediate World Cup campaign, but a Cup of Harmony berth is certainly no tall tale, and they'll still probably make a show in the 10-team groups.

Some stats for you: our prediction correctness count for the playoffs ended with 11/16, meaning we got a 68.75% correctness rate. That's ahead of our 60% correctness estimate, so woohoo! Go us! At least we didn't fail at something here.17

The Corps now has a 4-2-1 record in NS World Cup-sanctioned events, which is a really good thing which anyone can appreciate. That brings our overall match record to 8-4-6, which is finally a winning record and is respectable. Hopefully the in-between friendlies don't put a huge dent in the overall record, but we wouldn't really put it past the Corps considering their performance in the Independents Cup against higher-quality sides.

And with that, we would like to thank everybody in Bonesea and especially Mercedini who made this all possible. It was certainly a wonderful tournament and way to start the Kick Corps into the World Cup Cycle despite not winning it all like we and many others hoped. There's a very big world of sport out there just waiting for us, and we can't wait to break in.

See you there.

1 Don't worry, dear readers, we don't plan on doing that often.
2 Shame on you!
3 Pft, like that'd work.
4 Grudgingly.
5 There weren't any commercial flights to take them and going by boat would take too damn long, so the Drawk Corps thankfully let the Kick Corps borrow a Corps-Air jet to take there.
6 Even though that one is only a bit over 21k itself.
7 Luckily the Corps had gotten the ball back and was staging a very careful, holding attack at that point.
8 Oh Christ that name.
9 Seriously, what is up with these names?
10 She was attempting to get her 9th Kick Corps goal, which would give her a leg-up on the race to 10 goals against Ellzidan, who's at 7 currently.
11 Come on, ripping your shirt off and twerking on a teammate isn't that bad!15
12 Okay, maybe 3-1 isn't barely winning a shootout. But still. Full Time win > Shootout win. Case closed on who's better.
13 It was kinda funny seeing Michael Starre scrambling on the sidelines figuring out exactly what the hell he needed to be doing.
14 Whoops, wrong sport.
15 Whoops, I'm sounding like a Quebecois now. Maybe I should tone it down a bit.
16 Despite it being a really horrible loss in the clutchest moment.
17 Fine, fine, I'll actually dial it down now.

CB:Valerio Scarpa
CB:Artur Bernat
CB:Dudu Madeiros

ST:Sgt. Sam Billic

Description by minute:
0': First half whistle is getting blown, Juvencus has got the ball. Bernat tried crossing it to Grec who was running at the Mercedinian side hoping for a quick goal.
6': Mercedini are on possession of the ball. Patrick Jackic did the long pass to Pujanic only for the latter's shot to be saved by Bulgari.
7': Nymark's the corner kicker to cross it to Billic with Billic jumping higher than everybody, heading the ball to the ground in an immense force and the ball bounced back in. GOAL: Mercedini!
22': Alberighi's got the ball, he crosses it to Grec, with him running forwards only to get tackled violenty by Osun. Osun didn't receive a card controversially.
23': AC Serone's Martell is the free kick taker. He shoots it with great force and it curves in! GOAL: Juvencus
28': After an equaliser that shook Mercedini, Mercedinians are playing calmer, Nymark passes it to Pujanic and Pujanic misses the target by an inch.
29': Juvencus is on the counter attack, Russo's in possession and he plays the ball to Vives, but Vives' shot is saved by Hosset.
34': Juvencus is pressuring once more, this time with Martell on the ball. Jackic went to cut him but Martell passes the ball through Jackic's legs to find himself 1on1 with Aznelik, Martell passes it to Gallo and Gallo's shot is also saved, the ball's out for a corner.
35': Grec is the corner taker. He crosses it in, Gallo jumps mid and OOH! It hit the woodwork.
38': Mercedini on possession, Park to Nymark, Nymark to Chillotov and Chillotov misses!
43': Jackic passes it to Crasic, the latter to Nymark, Nymark finds some space and what a strong shot! GOAL: Mercedini
First half ends with Mercedini leading 1-2
45': Second half begins, Mercedini having the control of the ball.
48': What a chance missed by the Mercedinians. Nymark's excellent through ball to Billic ends in Bulgari's hands.
51': Both sides are about for a change. Gallo out for Albert and Jackic out for Webster.
56': Juven players have the ball, Grec in particular, he's surrounded by Park and Pujanic but Grec finds space and passes it to Vives, Vives then crossed it to Albert and Albert scores! GOAL: Juvencus
71': No chances made for t a while but Mercedinians have earnt a foul on a dangerous spot 28 meters outside the box. Crasic is the taker, he takes it and OOH what a save.
78': Mercedini's on for another change, Pujanic out for Presic.
81': Juvencus' 2nd substitution on the game as well, Bernat out for Bassi!
86': Great pressure by the Mercedinians, Nymark passes it through to Presic and he scores! GOAL: Mercedini
88': Not a major chance done by Juven players, Albert tried scoring a seemingly impossible goal being marked by 2 defenders.
90 +3': Final whistle. What a climax to a game this size. Mercedini came out on top though. Man of the Match was Zoloroni City's Johannes Nymark, with an excellent performance.

Match report:
During the first half, both sides would storm on one another really. An early Billic goal was a strong headstart for the Mercedinians, for the next few minutes though, ther was nothing but possessive play up until the 22nd minute. An aggressive Osun tackle on Grec earnt Juvencus a foul, but Osun wasn't given a card, rather a simple warning. Martell was the free kick taker and he scored it using immense force making the ball curve in an insane matter, making it almost impossible for the Mercedinian keeper (Hosset) to catch it. Then both sides pushed each other in great counter-aggressive play. At the 35th minute, after a Grec cross, Gallo was unable to find the target with his header hitting the woodwork. Finally, at the 43rd minute, Nymark was able to find some space for a shot and he scored a great goal giving Mercedini the lead at half time.

At the second half, Mercedini was a bit more dominant, especially in the start, they were hungry for an early goal to seal the game, with Billic's shot being saved by Bulgari. Although more dominant, Mercedini was unable to keep Juvencus from scoring, after a great Grec pass, Vives was able to find space to cross it to Albert with the latter heading it in, scoring the equaliser once more. After that, not many chances were made up until the last 10 minutes, with Mercedini proving its dominance over Juvencus. At the 86th minute, Nymark found some gaps at the Juven defence and he passed it to Presic (The golden change) with Presic scoring the decider. Juvencus tried in the last minutes, but they were unable to find the target. The final score, 2-3.

Comments on the game:
August Toset: "We played great, both sides played great. But in the end, Mercedini came out on top to our expense. But that's life."
Joaquim Martell: "I believe this was a double sided game, we played good, we played good. We should've watched out for chances like the goal we conceded in the end, but we'll improve on it. As long as you're concerned about the free kick I scored, I felt amazing, this is the first free kick I've scored in an international game, it doesn't matter if it's a friendly or not, it's still great to see a free kick taking a curve like that and then getting in."
Random Juven fan: "Look, we played ok, but we should've kept it 2-2. We should improve on our defenders' attention. It kills me to see my team losing. I hope we'll do better in the qualifiers."

Questions Answered:

The Vocaloid Army Prepares For Friendly Match

Image

Audrei Princip, the national manager, has announced a friendly match will be played in a series of tours against other nations around the world. He believes that the tour is intended for the players to get them prepared for the upcoming World Cup and boost crowd support for the team, since Tomikosan is known to rely on their own fans to keep them motivated.

Interview by Audrei Princip:

In my view, they MUST be prepared in order to win. The point of friendlies is to give players some experience in the real match and make the fans cheer as lud as they can. I am expecting a win and a win only. The biggest disappointment that I see is a draw and a loss. The main phrase is 'win a match', not 'avoid losing a match'. Cowardice is not on my dictonary, and will never be in the future.

The plans for a friendly match will be: Flardania, Juvencus, Super-Llamaland and Qasden. The Vocaloid Army are hoping to give their very best and win every match. Meanwhile, the fans are preparing to cheer for the team all in the name of patriotism.

Come one, Thomitei. Bring the other side and take the victory!!

“A hundred and eighty years. In that time a gargantuan nation fell, a war raged for a century, and tiny fraction of a great culture travelled many lands and oceans just to find a home.” The older man walked slowly down the tunnel, carved into the mountain, a younger female walking beside him.

“I know our history, professor, but I still don’t get the connection. Why are we here?”

The two looked like an unlikely pair as they descended slowly down the rock passageway, illuminated by dim electric work lights dotted regularly along the path. The elder one, was on the wrong side of middle-aged, greying and using an antique cane to support him as hobbled along with purpose. The younger one seemed full of youth, with deep red hair and stepping confidently, yet seemed totally uncertain of where she was being led.

“The short answer, Mela? The queen herself requested it.” He smiled more to himself than anyone as the two archaeologists continued down into the mountain.

Mela snorted in a distinctly unladylike manner. “That was clear with the amount of funding we’re getting! Archaeology is hardly a money-making career, and this nation looks down on it more than most.” She stepped around a sputtering generator before continuing. “I was thinking of going overseas before we got this grant; there isn’t much of a life for people who look to the past here.”

The two companions were silent for a minute as they walked, the light growing dimmer as they moved further from the sunlit entry.

“I’m glad then. The university would’ve felt your loss keenly, Mela. It’s rare to have someone of your talent.” The professor’s eyes sparkled as he glanced over at his young charge. “And your expertise in ancient machinery should prove invaluable here.”

“Ancient machinery? What in the name of Zhogu are you talking about, professor? You only talk in riddles! The queen herself throws an ungodly amount of money towards excavating ruins in the Nebula Mountains, you mention ancient machinery, and for some reason this is all involved with… with…” Mela waved her hands as she looked for the words.

“Football?” the professor offered.

“Football!” Mela exclaimed. “A bunch of people running around kicking an air-filled bladder inside a sphere of leather! We’re archaeologists! Why would some ruin be so important and have anything to do with football?” She undid the tie holding the ponytail that had come undoin in her frustration before tying it back up.

The older man shook his head and smiled sadly at the young woman. “Dear Mela. What do you know about our history with football?”

“Well…” She paused before continuing, “I know that before the Great Fall, the Century War, we were pretty good. And we were playing it hundreds of years ago.”

“Centuries, my dear,” the professor replied. “And we were one of the first to compete in the World Cup. Almost three hundred years ago, which is longer than any other nation still living, outside the great Archregimancy. And we were more than pretty good - we were great! We never won the biggest competition, but we were still regarded as one of the greatest football powers. Not to say everyone liked us, but they certainly respected us.” He took off his glasses and wiped them as he continued. “In some way, it was what made us a great nation. It was something we rallied around, brought out our national pride, brought us together as a people. Through living, breathing the sport, we became great in everything we did. Sure, the old Spaam was a major exporter of minerals, of building technology, of education, of so much… but that was all secondary. When people around the world thought of Spaam, what was the first thing that came to their mind?”

“Football?” Mela offered in return.

The professor nodded. “Exactly. It was what made our nation great until a hundred and eighty years ago, and it is what her majesty believes will make our nation great again today.”

“Well, that explains why we’re trying to qualify for the World Cup, but that hardly explains what we’re doing here!”

The older man raised his hand as if to ask his companion to stop as man in a bright orange hard hat walked towards them.

“Foreman!” the professor called out. “How close are we?”

“Professor Torbanise!” the man replied, jogging up to the two archaeologists. “We are close, but maybe another day of digging. It is slow work, and we must be careful not to damage the carvings.”

The professor looked pleased at this reply. “Better to be slow than to destroy in haste. Keep up the good work, Mr. Gredan!”

The foreman bowed to Professor Torbanise and Mela, before continuing on his way. The two walked silently as they descended further down the ancient tunnel.

Savojarna National Tourist Office - Visitor's Guide to Savojarna

With the accession of our nation to the worldwide stage, we expect visitors from all over the multiverse to arrive to our beautiful country for qualifying games of the 77th World Cup. To prevent unwanted surprises, here are the most important things you should know if you come to this nation. The Savojars are friendly and open people, but the law in this nation can be harsh and it is best to be prepared and know your borders and rights. Similarly, it is important to know where to go and what not to miss - surely you don't want to go home and never have seen the famous Great White Dragons? Here is all you need to know as a visitor to Savojarna!

Savojarna is a nation shaped by the roughness and hard conditions of the life on those frozen islands. Often, settlements got too big for what limited resources our soil offers, and the only way to improve the supplies of food was war. This rough environment has hardened us all. For many years, war was the way a man had to take to bring his family through the winter, be it war on his neighbour or on the fruitful lands of Russica. The country hadn't been united until the 16th century, and only in the early 19th century did said unity become more than just central rule from Sjoedrhavn. The divisions of the old times can still be seen and felt, and we definitely advise you to see more than just the city of Sjoedrhavn - even though there is no way of denying you should take a look at it. Travel up north to the rough wilderness of Northern Vestrholm and make some expeditions into nature from Jarnstad. Take a short flight (or a boat) to Storevik and explore the Silver Mountains of Ejana, where the silver was mined that allowed Ejana to reign almost the entire nation from Storevik in the 9th century. Stroll through the vast forests of Sumanen, taste its many berries and see one of the famous Savojar Dragons. Or see the centre of Savojar Christianity in St. Andrei, down south in Russica. If you are around for a Savojar festivity (applies to fans from Anglatia, Mattijana and Eastfield Lodge mainly), dive into the party in Sjoedrhavn and celebrate the game with your hosts. Most of the parties include plenty of alcohol, music and entertainment.

Getting here, getting around

WCQ attendees will likely fly to the capital, Sjoedrhavn, where all games are played. This means you will land at Sjoedrhavn International, from where most major national airlines fly to the bigger Multiverse nations. IAS flies to most Rushmori nations and to many destinations in other major nations as well. Some low-budget airlines fly to Thorsborg, from where there is a high speed connection to Sjoedrhavn. Your WCQ ticket serves as a ticket on all national and Sjoedrhavn trains for three days before and after the match! If you fly to Pawlograd, there is a ferry connection which takes about three hours and is covered by the ticket as well. Alternatively, you may want to take a domestic flight which will likely cost you around 30-50 SAK. Visa are easy to get as most Rushmori nations don't need a visum (but need to announce their stay - if you fly with IAS, that was taken care of when you bought the ticket). For the week before and after the matches, this practice was extended to all citizens of nations coming to play in Savojarna. For staying longer, you will need a tourist visum which can be obtained at every Savojar embassy or consulate or on www.immigrationoffice.int.gov.sj.

In Savojarna, you will mostly use public transport. Within Sjoedrhavn, public transport is entirely free (as is the case in many Savojar cities). The bus Nr. 1 takes you right across the city, and the underground line B connects the centre with the stadium (station: Baldersgata/Stadion Bjurman). Between cities, we have a high speed train network which can take you to Jarnstad in 3 hours and to Thorsborg in 50 minutes. Inter-island-travel is usually done by boat (boat transfers are included in intercity train tickets, or can be bought on their own) or by domestic flights. Airports can be found in Sjoedrhavn, Pawlograd, St. Andrei, Thorsborg, Storevik, Virkaja and Hovikkära. Major ports are to be found in Sjoedrhavn, Pawlograd, Storevik, Hovikkära and Jarnstad. Public transport is reliable and affordable. If you want to rent a car, this is possible at airports and train stations. You need to have had a driving license of your home country for at least three years and be over 21 to rent a car, and to drive it you need to have a valid driver's license and be at least 18 years old.

A Place to Stay, A Way to Pay

Sjoedrhavn has a number of hotels and hostels in all price classes. For the games, we advise you to book early on to avoid bad surprises. In the whole country, a number of camping places and guesthouses can be found, while big hotels are not that common outside tourist hotspots. Small private guesthouses and Bed&Breakfasts are quite common in smaller towns and along tourist areas. Contact the SNTO under www.touristinfo.int.gov.sj for more information on a certain area.

You pay for all this with the Savojar Krona (SAK). There are coins for 10, 20 and 50 Öre and for 1, 2 and 5 Kronor, while the bank notes are worth 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 Kronor. Money can be obtained at any change bureau or bank, and there are such located in any major train station or airport. Please only use the Bank of Savojarna exchange places/banks, as other offers are illegal and we do not guarantee that you will not receive invalid or fake money. The Bank of Savojarna is the only institution licensed to offer exchange. You can also obtain money at any ATM, which are equipped to use most credit and debit cards used in the Multiverse. However, this cannot be expected of stores and shops, as Savojars typically pay for things with cash.

Typical prices in central Sjoedrhavn:
- a big beer (0.5 l): 5-7 SAK
- a glass of water or soda (0.5 l): 3-5 SAK
- a coffee: 3 SAK
- a meal in a restaurant: 20-25 SAK
- a taxi ride (5 km, day): 20 SAK
- a night at a hotel (three stars): 70-100 SAK
- a night at a hostel: 20-25 SAK
- a cinema ticket: 15-20 SAK

Eating, drinking and nightlife

Savojarna's cuisine is shaped by the demands of the land. Sheep are widely spread, and lamb meat is a traditional dish of this country. We also have world class fish, and our salmon comes in every form and shape you can imagine - smoked, grilled, cooked, you name it. In Sjoedrhavn's old town, you can find plenty of restaurants to satisfy all of your demands. If you want a real traditional meal, look for the Savojar Cellars. Their licenses are strictly monitored and they all serve quality traditional food. If you prefer international food, look to the waterfront. The old docklands quarter houses a number of various restaurants, some of them led by the finest Savojar chefs, some led by various kinds of immigrants. Savojar cuisine is often called "bland", and while we would heartily disagree, we can see why you'd say that. But the international restaurants you can find there certainly can make up for it.

When it comes to drinks, Savojarna offers you a vast selection of spirits, most of them based on vodka and flavoured with the many berries and herbs of Sumanen. You should definitely try Valjuri Bla, a traditional Sumanen drink that combines the finest herbs of the forests with the sweetness of ripe blueberries and blackberries that grow in the very same forests. But be careful, it is strong! Shall you not like spirits, there is a large numbers of local beers. Wine, on the other hand, is less spread, as grapes don't take our climate too well. What you should do instead is couple your traditional Savojar meal with a bottle of Sumanen's best berry wine or with a good mead, which can also come with various flavours if you don't like the pure sweetness of honey. Some combinations are a more modern thing, some others have been around since the 10th century. In the cellars, you will get a good recommendation on this. And if you enjoy it, go hunt the old town for some of the small breweries and destillery shops there. You will find gems like Ekman's, a city brewery which has been around for almost 600 years and sells local beers as well as traditional Sumani spirits; and you will find places like The Flying Lynx, a destillery set up by three young Sumani which sells organic combinations found nowhere else. When you're at the stadium, you need to drink a cup of Savojarstee. This beverage is so iconic for this nation's sports events that we simply named it after ourselves. What you will encounter is a very strong, hot and sweet peppermint tea with a strictly guarded secret mix of spices, spiked with a hearty shot of our best vodka. It warms you thoroughly if the weather is cold - and trust us, it is.

Done with the food, and tasted your favourite selections of Savojar drinks? Time to celebrate? Move down to the Docklands. In old warehouses and small bars, you can find whatever you desire. Next to the waterfront, you can find big old warehouses that are used as clubs and concert halls. In Savojarna's oldest club, SK09, international DJs play a selection of finest electronic music until the sun rises. In the legendary Gorman Club, you can find a truly Savojar experience. In the often smokey and hot hall, the music is dominated by our very own kind of rock and metal, influenced by our traditional music. Let the guitars shake up your feet and let the strings and horns take you onto a journey straight back into the armies that ran over Russica in the 12th century. Similar sounds can be heard in the numerous small bars that are often lodged in the surrounding houses. And one street back, we have another legendary place. At Henrik's, you can find the number one jazz and blues club of the nation. In a usually packed and smoke-filled living room, Henrik offers you a unique selection of craft beers, meads and spirits, combined with local jazz and blues musicians. His big jug of tea is always full and hot as well, so if that's what you're after, take a seat in the soft couches of Henrik's and stay until the morning comes!

A note on legal matters: In most Savojar clubs and bars, smoking is legal and in many, it is even expected. But do us a favour and don't do it in designated non-smoker areas, or we may kick you out. And while the consumption of Cannabis is forbidden but tolerated, try not to be overly obvious about it. Entrance in most bars is from 16 or 18 years, but some of them require you to be 20. Beer with less than 8% alcohol and tobacco can be bought from 16 onwards, but for other things you need to be 18.

Things to do and buy

In Sjoedrhavn, there are lots of things to do. Walk around the beautiful old town in order to discover old Sjoedrhavn's houses and the riches of old Savojarna. See the shops and art in the Docklands. Walk up to Sjoedrhavn Castle and look at the history of its rulers. For over 1000 years, they had ruled the city which never got conquered. And then they made themselves kings of all of Savojarna. The museum in the castle houses objects like the mythical armour of Harald the Wild, first Emperor of Savojarna in 1021 (even though he never managed to capture Jarnstad, until he tried through diplomacy rather than force). A copy of the Pawlograd Agreement can be found, signed in 1831, which granted Russica the right of a regular subject of the Crown after almost 400 years as a colony; as well as a copy of the Treaty of Storevik from 1689, which turned King Haakon IV. of Sjoedrhavn and VII. of Ejana into Emperor Haakon I. of Savojarna, thus formally founding the Second Savojar Empire. And in the Treasury, you can see the crown of the last Emperor, Gustav XII. of Savojarna.

If you are less interested in history and more interested in art, the National Gallery is located in a city palace of the Silfverman family, a family who got rich after obtaining mining rights in the 16th century and became advisors to the King and later the Empire. It holds, among other things, the largest collection of paintings by Johan Terjason, the most famous Savojar painter. His image of the coronation of Haakon I. originally hung in the Emperor's throne hall until the Revolution ousted the Emperor. After the revolution in 1909, it was almost burnt as a symbol of the Ancien Regime, but saved as a national cultural object. Similar fates were avoided for the Gallery Of Kings, an almost complete collection of portraits of Kings of Sjoedrhavn and Emperors of Savojarna from Baldur the Just (reigning 1428 - 1443) to Gustav XII. (reigning 1899 - 1909). The modern art gallery in the Docklands has a number of international works of the last 100 years as well as important Savojar artists from the same time.

Other museums to pass time in are the Savojar Hockey Hall of Fame, the Museum of Natural History of the University of Sjoedrhavn, the Savojar Military History Museum and the Botanical Garden of Savojarna in the old Royal Parkgrounds. For the shoppers, the Docklands and the Old Town is full of old shops. Not only should you bring home food and drinks as stated above, but also consider some of Savojarna's high tech products or traditional handcraft: metalworks, silver jewelry or woodwork. Many artisans can be found throughout the city. And if you have trouble with the cold, there is the traditional way of fur clothes and thick woolen jackets, both of which can be found in many small old town shops. Last but not least, we can suggest a walk through the boulevard where the old city wall stood. Along this boulevard, countless bookstores and publishers have met. It offers you a vast selection of fiction, non-fiction and Savojarna's greatest authors. If you want to understand our nation, you should check the philosophical works of Anders Mikaelson.

In the name of the SNTO, it was my pleasure to introduce our beautiful nation to you. See you soon in Savojarna!
MT socialist (mostly) island state - Cultural mixture of Scandinavia, Finland and Russia -Exports iron, steel, silver and wood - Low fantasy in terms of animal species - Sports-loving - 22.8 million inhabitants.

The adjective is Savojar; Savojarnan is not a word!
I am a student of (European) politics, ice hockey fan, left-wing communist bordering on anarchy, and European federalist. Enjoy!

"Indeed. Messed up, will not happen again. Still, you win."
The two were on a part of Huelandia's farm. Kitsunia had to break the news to her mother and also update them on the news.
Sunrise, however, decided to spar with Chromatika, only to find out there was much more on the promising trainer.

"You didn't go easy on me, did you? That was totally illogical."
"I didn't. It's just... you're special. Only way I can beat you is via thinking outside of the box."
"But you went over your head."
"More or less. Still, I'd say you learned a lot as well."
"True. And you know what they say..."
"What?"
"It's always easier to learn with family."
"Eh?"
"OH, YOU WON'T!"
Kitsunia appeared from nowhere, only to drag Sunrise by the ear.
"OW!"
"I'M NOT LETTING YOU GET ANY IDEAS, HEAR ME?!"
"I WASN'T!"
Qasden did sprout with her adoptive mother, looking at her "custody brother" as he often put it.
"Why do you keep doing that?"
"It's funny, isn't it?"
"...Yeah!"
The two followed Kitsunia yelling at Sunrise as she dragged him to her mother's house.

"Ma, you didn't need to invite everyone for lunch..."
Matthew look around the table, finding almost the entire family there.
"But I did! Plus, aren't you glad your little sister found herself someone?"
"In all fairness, she didn't exactly look too far."
"..."
"I'm really glad you invited us all."
"You're all family as far as I care."
"...even our mother?"
They all remained silent for a couple of seconds. Southern Sunrise hit him with her elbow.
"Eastern!"
"My bad."
"She broke all ties with me after I took Sunrise in, but I don't exactly miss her in any way."
"Ah, so do we."

"S-she was insane as far as I could recall, Ma'am."
"Just call me Ma or Huelandia. Who'd be you, little miss?"
"Southwestern Sunrise... Ma?"
"You're getting the hang of it."
"Ma, this pork is delicious!"
"Thanks, Sunrise. See, I would cook chicken for today but a little incident last time your cousin went off for days, he-"
"MA!"
"Oh, quiet you. Instead of giving me grandchildren, you kept playing with that chicken. At least now you're trying to study like a proper person!"
"Unca's a student?"
"...Uh..."
"Heh, that's nice. So, what are you studying for?"
"Agronomy."
"Fits your interests, after all."
"Took him long enough!"
"MA!"
"Oh, get over it!"

Sunrise and Chromatika were checking out some of the old stuff on the house's basement.
The basement itself was filled of boxes, most guarding memorabilia of the family, specially Matthew and Kitsunia's late father, Cilnotuz.

"Check this out, Chrom."
Sunrise handed him a photo with a couple of men lined up as a football team. They were decked on green shirts, purple shorts, white socks and black kickers.
"St. Futurnian Gras, 1970."
"Yeah. The keeper on the team is my father."
"...You mean Kitsunia's adoptive father or... ahem..."
"Sir Byrd."
"He... He looks like you."
"He was alright. Once he passed away, things went deep into chaos."
"But I thought they both wanted you to become their leader!"
"He did, but he was on the process of mellowing up."
Southern Sunrise's head peeked up the basement's door, until she managed to enter.
"Father was a very effortful man but his health was always a bit weak. He'd double the effort just to make sure his weakness wasn't showing."
"And then one day, he collapsed."
"And mom went nuts. We went nuts as well."
Sunrise sighed, looking at the window.
"Say for yourself."
"I do. And for the other two as well. You were the exception."
"In a way, I took a bit from him, I guess."
"And who's this?"
He pointed to a short young man, a small mustache forming on his face. He seemed like a midfielder.
"Uncle Cilnotuz."
"He was related to Sir Byrd, but instead preferred a fair life at St. Futurnian instead of being a Paladin of sorts."
"Holy blood and all?"
"...the Madam had it."
"Huh."
"Legend has she is part of the Sir Sunrise bloodline. For some reason, the ones who belong to that specific bloodline were legends."
"...And your mother went nuts."
"I guess she succumbed under the pressure."
"Not all of them were legends, in any case. They were just good people, but the Madam insisted on some sort of Sir Sunrise glory."
"So what about sir Cilnotuz?"
"An alright worker, an alright farmer. Passed away when I was around seven or eight years old. Kitsunia cried a river that day."
"Not much to talk about?"
"He tried to raise us well. I'd say he did a good job."

As the afternoon slowly got passed over by the night, they were all ready to leave Huelandia's Farm and go their own separate ways.
"You two grew up so fast..."
"Oh, ma..."
"In a way, ma. But hey, we only grew up because you were so good."
"Oh, golly gee! I hope you visit us more often!"
"We'll try."
"Yeah!"
"Well, did you little ones enjoy it as well?"
"Yup! It was much fun, grandma!"
"...I think she'd rather have you call her Ma, remember?"
"Oops, sorry."
"Well, I guess I enjoyed that. Thanks."
"So make sure your parents take you here more often!"
"Will do!"
As the four finally arrived at the St. Futurnian train station, they seemed rather content from the whole travel.
Not too far, however, an ominous figure sat behind them, covered on a black robe. Her face remained covered.
That would be quite the trip home.
Tails... Watch out, you're gonna crash, aaaaah!

#AlternativeFacts About World Cup Nations - Part 1
by Journalist M38SFSBBSDB

Howdy, folks, it's me, Journalist M38SFSBBSDB, with some Alternative Facts about every nation participating in World Cup Qualifying. We will go through them throughout the next few days with things that are not lies, they're Alternative Facts.

Lanzo was founded by a professional wrestler whose stage name was Alonzo The Avenger. However, seeing as professional wrestlers tend to not be that smart, he tried to name the nation after himself but wound up calling it Lanzo.

The Serbian Empire was supposed to be called The Serbian Umpire, after its founder, Vladojic Hemijimicic, who called balls and strikes for the final series of World Baseball Classic 1. However, due to a misspelling, his infamously poor eyesight, and resulting lack of catching the misspelling, it was named The Serbian Empire.

Taeshan was rated by Grammar News Weekly as the nation with the best grammar and spelling in the entire Multiverse. This is likely because citizens are required to complete 30 years of English education before they can graduate high school. Unfortunately, this also means everyone under 35 or so is working at fast food places or coffee shops.

Coldfield consists of nothing but a large field covered in snow. In the summer, it is known as Warmfield. In the spring and fall, it is known as Lukewarmfield. The famous boxer Luke Warmfield takes his name from this nation.

Chromatika has people of all different colors, a rainbow of people. Literally. Due to a genetic mutation virus that spread among the population, people have skin colors ranging from purple to a bright and radiant orange, to a hideous lime green. The song about the one-eyed one-horned flying purple people eater is based on actual events in this country.

RedBlackiland, in the perfect segue, was founded by Chromatik expats with red and black striped skin.

EEC is short for EECOT and stands for Every Egghead Can Order Tacos.

Krytenia Is home to the saddest people in the Multiverse. They are always crying and can't spell so they think cry starts with K. They also founded Kars for Kids. In a related, nonalternative fact Lord Almighty Gregory banned the Kars for Kids ads from appearing on Gregoryisgodistani radio after his slave chauffeur got into an accident when he was trying to turn the infernal noise off at Lord Almighty Gregory's command and crashed into a tree. Nobody was hurt, until the slave was executed.

Lymantatia invented tacos and trouser belts. They are all very smart people who are very good singers and we love them so much. They also are the second-biggest consumer of gruel in the world after Gregoryisgodistan, but hate prunes.

HUElavia is the laughing gas capital of the world. The atmosphere in HUElavia is made of laughing gas and they are always laughing and walking into each other. It also has the most traffic accidents in the world because everyone is always high on laughing gas even while driving. Don't drive there.

Quakmybush is inhabited by sapient ducks which live in bushes. The ducks like to quack and talk and their catch phrase is "Quack my bush! Quack it!"

Barunia has 300 bars. They are all in ruins. That is why it is called Barunia.

Willinois is located 300 miles to the east of Eillinois.

Garifunya is named after Garfield the cat. Garfield is Felix the Kitty Cat's older brother. Felix the country is named after Felix the Kitty Cat. Therefore, Garifunya and Felix are allies.

Whovian Tardisia is really Whomvian Tardisia.

Drawkland is home to the dankest meme stash in the Multiverse. They love posting them in a Facespace group called "Drawkland's Dank Meme Stash" and especially love posting them about Naked Trumpian politician Hillary Sanders, who competed at the I Olympia Games. She is a viral hero.

Jeruselem is full of princesses and pedophiles. The local minor league baseball team holds a Princesses and Pedophiles night every Tuesday where princesses and pedophiles get in for 50 percent off if they dress in appropriate costumes. However, since there is no such thing as a pedophile costume, the pedophiles don't get in. It's brilliant!

Darmen was founded by a fruit-hat wearing gentleman named Darmen Miranda. He is the person Miranda rights are named after, as he was arrested once for wearing nothing but a fruit hat, and they didn't read him his rights, so he sued and won.

Witty Penguins is inhabited by sapient penguins, but they are not the least bit witty. They are even more dull and boring than non-sapient penguins and speak exclusively in monotones.

Bonesea is an island located in a sea of molten human bone. The island is also molten. Nobody lives there, they all got sent to the afterlife that is Wight when they died in the inferno of molten stuff.

United States of Devonta is inhabited by 300 ducks, 400 porpoises, and a partridge in a pair tree. They are at war with each other in a species civil war.

The national soccer team of Amnarei-asud is known as the Fightin' Hyphens.

Tumbra is located on an island in the middle of the Bone Sea of Bonesea. They shelter themselves by dissolving antacid tablets in the molten mess, which neutralizes it.

Gumusservi is inhabited by sapient gummy bears of all colors. They love doing the Gummy Bear Dance, and their soccer team will do the Gummy Bear Dance every time they score a goal. Lord Almighty Gregory ate a sapient Gummy Bear when the Foot Slaves faced them, so now they don't like us anymore.

Qasden is a valid Scrabble word, but its founder didn't like that, so he named the nation after it since proper nouns aren't valid Scrabble words. Now it's not a valid Scrabble word anymore.

Cosneolta is located somewhere deep in the cosmos. Its founder can't spell cosmos.

Semarland was supposed to be called Smoreland because it is inhabited by sapient smores. But they didn't want people traveling there and eating all the smores, so they decided at the last minute to call it something else as a "secret" message.

Valladares is located near the Whirl Islands. The Whirl Islands were supposed to be called the Swirlie Islands because it is mandatory to give someone a swirlie every day. However, they didn't want to scare people off, so they called it the Whirl Islands after seeing how well the "secret" message worked out for Semarland.

Nume was named as the result of a miscommunication. The mapmaker didn't know what it was called, so he wrote "Name?" on the map where Nume is. But the thing got smudged and it looked like Nume, so they called it nume. The nume, I mean name, stuck.

Faustii is the plural of Fautso. It was founded by three guys named Fausto and their sister Faustina.

That's all the #alternativefacts we have time for today. Come back next time for #alternativefacts about teams in Groups 4-6! See ya later!

The Art of Sneaking

Part one.

Yogic David.

Gary was under siege - or so it felt at least - as he peered out through the skylight, at the gentle plumes of campfire smoke rising from the other side of the stream. It was another beautiful summer's morning, the kind that genuinely made you happy to be alive. If he were to live to be a hundred, he would never tire of the way the first rays of sun hit the bulrushes as they poured over the ridge. It was a pale golden light that just seemed to lift out all the small details on every blade of grass. From his sleeping area, just under the collar tie, in the gable of the old stone lambing shed, he could just about see the roofs of the tents, and wooden structures in the distance. He had come here for peace and solitude, not for an audience, and the thought of others sharing his valley wore away at him like a piece of grit in his shoe. It was his idea, he thought of it first, he, and he alone. Had he wanted to remain part of a community, he would have joined some holistic-living commune, or better still, stayed where he was.

Anyway, he probably didn't have any time to worry about it now. His watch had stopped working several weeks back, and he now had to use a fair amount of guesswork in order that he reached training in time. He had spun and cursed almost daily, lamenting the fact that his employers used time as a means to coordinate training sessions - but it was no good, they weren't going to change it on his behalf. What if someone simply chose not to follow a clock? Surely it was a form of oppression to force someone to compartmentalise their day this way.

Gary climbed down from the rafters, through a small hatch, and descended into the living area. Where he slept was comfortable enough, he had a small mattress up there and he really had no complaints. All the same he felt stiff, and tired. It was probably around five in the morning, judging by when it first got light, but he had plenty to be getting on with. Gary open the door of his wood burning stove, and pocked at the embers. There was a little life in it still, so he stuffed a handful of dried grass into the hottest part and applied a little pressure until they took light. Carefully, he then added some twigs as kindling, and followed it up with some larger sticks as he gradually built up some heat. This was one of the genuinely rewarding parts of the day, watching the fire crackle into life, and the occasional wisp of smoke that escaped and entered the room. Glancing out of the window to check that the coast was clear, he then carried his kettle down to the stream to collect some water.

It wasn't uncommon to see some of the newcomers sitting up watching the sunrise, and he could live without the conversation. There were now as many as thirty structures in the valley: these ranged from tents, to more substantial buildings; and at Gary's best estimate there were around fifty newcomers in total. Gary could only admire their tenacity, it had been a hard winter, and many of them weren't anywhere near as prepared as he had been. Yet very few of them had packed up and left, they had held firm, and now with the improving weather, their numbers were increasing again. They kept their distance out of respect, after Gary had made it clear he wished to be left alone, and they now came no closer than the far side of the stream. Gary was often surprised by the sway he carried with the newcomers, and it had occurred to him that he could ask them to leave felt so minded. For some reason he hadn't done this however, perhaps he pitied them, or maybe it just didn't bother him as much as he thought it should. It was funny: often the idea of being irate was a stronger emotion than the level displeasure he actually felt. This was something that living alone had helped him address, and he was now better at stopping himself from going over the edge.

Why it bothered him at all had been a question he had wrestled with early on. Gary had plenty of time to philosophise and grapple with his inner feelings - it was why he was here after all. His conclusion had come with the realisation that he didn't want to become one of them, he didn't want to become dependent on their companionship. Gary had been stung too often in the past, and his reward for sticking his head above the parapet had almost always been an arrow in the neck. There had been Sophie, Abigail, Annie, and latterly Chloe - each and everyone an unbridled disaster. The newcomers weren't all that bad; he just couldn't let himself in. He couldn't risk falling in love with some hippy girl who would start eating away at him day and night, he needed to be free from those urges, he needed a monastic life. He had had one or two of them round for tea, and had once been into the newcomers' village for a group yoga session, and another time for a meal they had prepared in his honour - but other than that, he kept himself to himself.

Stick, as he liked to be called had been the first to turn up. It had been one morning towards the end of autumn, and the chilly Nepharim winds were beginning to herald the changing of the seasons. Gary had been awoken from a mid-morning nap, by the sound of hammering. Not the gentle hammering and natural ambience of nature, but a firm, rhythmic thumping of metal against wood. Gary had marched straight out to meet this newcomer, and followed the sound down to the bottom of the valley, some three hundred metres away. There, a middle-aged man stood knocking a post into the uneven ground. The valley floor as Gary had learnt long ago, was stony and unyielding. The man was having huge amounts of trouble getting the post to stay in the ground, but he seemed determined. Beside him sat a sports holdall, and a few supermarket carrier bags. He seemed like a white-collar office type, like someone not accustomed to casual dress. His hair was smart, but uncombed, and there was a day's growth on his chin.

Stick's story was this. He had been happily married for thirteen year, had a well-paid job in the backing sector, and a detached house in the suburbs. He had a reasonably good social life, he and his wife hosted dinner parties, they went to the theatre every once in a while - essentially he had what most normal folk aspired to. However, one morning he was been going to work as usual, absolutely nothing had been amiss, yet for some reason he stopped in his tracks. Instead of going to work he had sat on a park bench, and sat, and sat, and sat. It had gone past nine, but still he sat. It passed lunchtime, but he sat some more. Soon it was dinnertime, early evening, nighttime, but still he sat on the bench. It turned out, or so Stick had told him, that his life had started playing in reverse in his head. He had started remembering all the events, all the happy things, but also the regrets. It wasn't so much that he was doing it actively, rather, it were as if his brain had just finished, and was now playing the end credits. Stick was done.

He had considered sitting there forever, but just as night fell, a newspaper had blown in his direction, coming to rest against his leg. At first he hadn't moved, having absolutely no desire to check up on world affairs, yet something caught his eye. It was a story about the international footballer who'd had enough of life, and gone to live in the moors, shut away from the pressures of modern life. As soon as he read it, Stick had known he had to find Gary, and do the same.

Gary had been caught between puzzlement and concern. 'So what's your name, my friend?'

Stick had seemed anxious at this question. 'Well my name was...' His eyes darted from side to side. 'I want to leave that name and that life behind, just call me...' He continued to look around, until his eyes finally fixed on the pole in his hand. '...Stick... That'll do.'

Well it wasn't the most imaginative name ever invented, but then again, which name was. There was a girl who played with him at Chatswood, Desdemona she was called; Gary had always liked that name. Desdemona Schuster, it had a really nice flow to it, a poetic-meter. However, Stick it was, and the name... well let's say it stuck (pardon the pun). Eventually, with the help of a larger hammer borrowed from Gary, he even succeeded in erecting his own crude hut, and the rest is history...

As Gary bent down to collect some water in his pot, he felt like an antelope by a watering hole, keeping an eye out for predators. As mentioned, none of the newcomers, not even Stick, would cross the river without his explicit permission - so if they ever wanted to speak to him, or send him a message, they would wait for him on their side of the bank. Gary was a creature of habit if he were anything, and one could reliably predict he would be there shortly after sunrise. The river, which was more of a stream really, always felt fresh and cold. It had become something of a tradition, if not a compulsion, that Gary would always splash a little water in his eyes and around his cheek before filling his pot. Gary liked the was the water made his fingers tingle, like a kind of intolerable coldness, before he would pull his hands out and wring them together to warm the blood back up. He had a theory that it helped to wake him up in the absence of his old friend coffee, but he had nothing to back it up. It was certainly true that he felt more in touch with himself since living out here, but he occasionally worried that he used this to justify taking every gut feeling as gospel. But then again why not trust in himself? He knew what it was all about (life that is). Even Stick, for all his failings, was a hundred times closer to the truth than the majority of people he knew. He felt disgusted with himself whenever he thought back to just how easily he had adapted to the millionaire lifestyle, when all along this was all he had needed.

'Beautiful morning Gary.' Came a call from several metres away, snapping him back out of his thought pattern. It was David, stood looking placid, his face the very picture of serenity. From what Gary could remember, David was a retired yoga teacher from Ossoria, who had come all the way to Nephara after hearing about Gary's story. These newcomers were going to end up getting themselves evicted, and Gary with them - he dreaded to think what would happen if an immigration officer ever came round asking questions.

'Yes. Yes. Very much so.' Gary kept his countenance bright, he would never get the mask slip, but he retreated back from the magical barrier that was the river.

'You should have joined us. Last night I mean.' David walked slowly towards the edge of the river, his hands clasped behind his back, his bare feet moving softly over the tufts of long, yellowing grass. 'We did a bit of group yoga, Howard prepared a meal, and then we sang a few songs by the fire. I think you would have enjoyed it.'

'I had an early night,' said Gary, retreating quickly now so as he had to raise his voice a little to be audible. 'Besides I could hear the music from my hut.' David, from what Gary could remember, stayed in the large circular tent near the back of the newcomers' settlement; the one that he always thought looked Hostillian in design. Stick had told him once, while conversing like this, that David had a different person in his bed almost every night, and was something of a free spirit when it came to sexual relations. Gary always resented this, whether it were down to jealousy or not, would have taken a week's worth of sessions with Dr Durí to determine. Either way, it meant that Gary had always kept his distance from David.

'Oh dear, I do apologise if we were too loud Gary.' David gathered his eyebrows at the top of his nose, and he certainly seemed concerned. 'We didn't distract you, did we?'

'I'm afraid so, yes.' Gary smiled, but only a little, and his eyes told a different story. Fucksake, what a dick head Gary was, no wonder everyone left him. Every time someone reached out to him, they found him standing there with a meat cleaver to whop their fingers clean off. Then, the worst part was, he had the cheek to be disappointed that he had never found someone to love.

'I'm so sorry Gary.' David placed his palms together in front of his chest and gave a consolatory bow of the head. 'Please, in future, just ask us to stop.'

Gary returned the gesture. 'It's alright David, I wouldn't want to dictate how others use this valley, I mean, it's not as if I own it.' He gave a short, forced laugh. 'I wish you a good day, but I'm afraid I must be getting ready for football training.'

Gary turned and marched back to his hut, cradling the pot in front of him like a baby. He had to find a way to get rid of these newcomers, some way, somehow. He was in danger of getting sucked back into the circus, the pantomime that was the world of dating and interaction with the opposite sex. Not because he was seeking it however, but because he was jealous - jealous of Yogy-David. How could he continue his new life of dedicated celibacy when David was at it like a rabbit in that round tent of his? He needed to David to go - but it was going to mean being devious again, it was going to mean - dare he say it - sneaking about. He had had his fingers burnt in the past, sneaking: his lies had come unravelled when he had gotten rid of Claire and then Connie - subsequent managers had brought them back into his life, and he'd been the one left with egg on his face. Sneaking had only ever brought him short-term gains, and long-term losses. This time he needed to do some proper sneaking, he needed to convince these newcomers to leave in a way that couldn't come back and bite him.

#AlternativeFacts About World Cup Nations - Part 2
by Journalist M38SFSBBSDB

Howdy folks, your favorite journalist is back with more #AlternativeFacts about nations here at the World Cup Qualifying. Today, we will look at #AlternativeFacts about nations in Qualifying Groups 4-6. And remember, these aren't lies, they're #AlternativeFacts.

Spaam was named after the founder's least favorite food. Spam is illegal there because he hates it. He also decided to spite it by spelling it wrong, to show his hatred for spam so much. That being said, it is also the largest per capita producer of junk email in the Multiverse.

Nagore is home to a lot of nagging mothers and wives. "Clean your room", they say. "Wash the dishwasher." "Mow the lawn." "Feed the dog." "Walk the kitty." They are required to nag their husbands or kids at least 394 times a day or face execution. To date, only two of them have been executed in over 500 years, because they like nagging so much.

Eura is where the corn flake was invented. Its inventor, a spy named Christopher "Corny" Flake, was making poisoned gruel to give to the Samebans while claiming to be Gregoryisgodistani, but he accidentally put salt and sugar in it instead of poison, and also put cornmeal in it for some odd reason, because he wasn't that bright. After realizing his mistake, he set it on fire with a blowtorch in a fit of rage and it turned into a giant block of cornflakiness. He then smashed the block with a hammer in a fit of rage but one of the pieces flew in his mouth. It was delicious, so he resigned from the spy agency and sold the cereal instead. He was later executed for selling military secrets.

Kandorith was founded by a little girl named Dory and her magic monkey named Toots. They travel around the country having great adventures and singing magical songs about how wonderful they are. They also steal soccer balls from magical foxes who just want to play soccer, and punish them for "stealing." It is very mean.

North Carcossia and the Hesperides has an interesting name because there is no South Carcossia. There used to be, but it was submerged by a giant tidal wave and then the Hesperidians melted it with molten lava.

West Saintland was named after St. Land, the patron saint of llamas, goats, prune farmers, and flatulence.

Socialist Northern Islands is a landlocked capitalist country located in the southern part of this planet thing.

Veldgouwen is a bizarre country where everyone is named Velga, regardless of whether they are a man or a woman. They all talk in Russian and the national beverage is a White Russian, which is locally known as a cowski.

Kaboomlandia is inhabited by sapient nuclear bombs. They often explode and wipe out large portions of the country. Three of the nuclear bombs Gregoryisgodistan dropped on Hicana were kidnapped from Kaboomlandia.

Hirvania is where the phrase "Herp a derp a" was invented. That phrase is used by idiots on internet message boards, and some are stupid enough to say it in person. Everyone in Hirvania is that stupid.

Super-Llamaland is full of sapient llamas who live in trees under the sea. They are magical llamas with gills and tree climbing limbs. It is a very bizarre country. It was willed into existence as a result of the stupidity of Doybert from Costa Lunians Say The Darndest Things, who is totally a real person.

In Augusticinia every month is August. They got the idea from Santaclausisgodistan, where it is Easter every day. And that's not a falsehood either, it's an alternative fact too.

The national instrument of Banija is peanut butter. It used to be the banjo, and they liked it so much they named the country after a misspelling of it, but then they suddenly got stupid and made peanut butter the national instrument instead of the national spread. The national spread is now the oak, and the national tree is the banjo.

Royalsoldiers does not have a military or a King.

The Isles of Avon are located in the Sea of Tranquility. The Sea of Tranquility is on the Moon. Therefore, they are Martians.

Kaumann is a misspelling of "cow-man", which refers to the half-cow, half-human inhabitants of this bizarre country.

Nassau-Hessen is home to the Nassau-Hessen A&M University & Technical Institute Fighting Ampersands. They were going to go with the Fightin' Hyphens, but that was taken. (See Part 1)

Blouman Empire is home to sapient flowers who are always blooming but can never spell. All the flowers in the Multiverse are technically citizens of the Blouman Empire, except onions. But onions are definitely flowers!

Nova Anglicana was founded 300 years before Vetus Anglicana.

Pasarga has a very unusual pronunciation. It is pronounced "Fashagay." Its founder loved playing tricks on people with pronunciation, the sneaky devil.

Kaisaru is home to flying kangaroos. They are not sapient, but always poop on people, and if they poop on you, you die. Please do not visit Kaisaru.

Brenecia is full of clowns. Actual clowns. Every square inch is covered in clowns. It's completely creepy. Why are they all clowns, and why are they packed so tightly? We shall never know.

Great Caledonia and North Hybernia is not so great. They are always hibernating and will continue to do so for 300 million years, at which point they will return to Conquer the Earth in their former greatness.

Anglatia was named after the world famous loser Thomas Anglatto. Anglatto always lost at everything. He managed four nations in the World Cup's early days and had 52 losses in 52 games. He once scored negative three points in a Scrabble game. He also lost to a monkey in chess three different times, before killing the monkey in a fit of rage. They charged him with murder, even though that only applies to humans, and he lost the case, being found guilty and sentenced to death. Fortunately for him, the prison lost the electric chair and he was pardoned and exiled to found Anglatia.

Tobiasia are the most biased people on Earth. They hate Gregoryisgodistan. They believe everything that hideous website out of the Free Republics, Britebarf, puts out, even though most of it is "Haha, Consul Piazza was secretly born in Patistan and is a Muslim." Now, those are falsehoods. What we're telling you are alternative facts.

Juvencus is the only country where each soccer game has a 45 minute pizza and pasta break at halftime, then another 20 minutes to eat canolis before they start the second half. It is amazing. Let's move there.

Turori is located on the Rori Peninsula between Wunrori and Threerori. There is also a Forrori and a Sixxrori, but no Fiverori or anything like that.

Eastfield Lodge is a hunting lodge in the eastern part of a field. There is also Westfield Hotel in the western part of the field, which is a separate country.

Savorjarna is the country where they eat the national food of jarna, which is whale blubber, hot sauce, shredded cheddar cheese, and orange soda, all mixed together and deep fried in a shell of pancake batter. They really savor it.

That's all the #AlternativeFacts for today. Stay tuned tomorrow for #AlternativeFacts about teams in Groups 7-9. That's all for now, folks!

Main Hall, Scott City University
Scott City, Kingdom of Darmen
Noon, Tuesday, January 1st, 2036

Dust particles danced in the rays of the sun as it shone through the high windows of the Main Hall. The delegates to the Constitutional Assembly had all assembled as requested save for one. Many were surprised that the delegate in question would be the last to arrive, and a few even wondered if he’d arrive at all. Huddled in small groups, each group surrounding a table, the delegates whispered to each other about various matters.

After a few minutes the final delegate entered the room, military guards closing the doors behind him. The delegates fell silent, with those still standing taking their seats. Only one remained standing. He began to speak.

“Friends, Darmenis, countrymen, lend me your ears!” He momentarily paused afterwards, a small smile appearing on his face. A few of the delegates laughed quietly, while others simply turned their attention to the speaker. The speaker’s face turned more serious, before he continued, “Honorable members of this Assembly, I recognize that we do not currently have any rules governing our actions. However, having been one of the key people in bringing this Assembly into existence, I request that you grant me at least this one time the ability to speak freely before you.

“It seems to me that this Assembly was created for the purpose of proposing a constitution for a unified Darmeni nation, and that that must be our main course of action. That being said, I also believe, that as we create this constitution, it is also important that we issue messages to the people as to our progress and also our thoughts on the events happening outside of this Hall.

“It is my opinion, honorable members of this Assembly, that any constitution we produce must be for the benefit of the whole Darmeni people, as well as those who do not consider themselves as Darmeni but who choose to reside within the borders of the nation. As such, we must ask ourselves a question that has been asked numerous times by many, and has never been fully answered. I do not consider myself an expert on the subject, but I also do not consider myself to be an idiot, so I therefore ask you to contemplate and arrive at your own conclusion as to the validity of my answer.

“What is a Darmeni?

“Many have said that the answer is simply one of ancestry, that any person of mixed Aboriginal origin or of a primarily European background is a Darmeni. I however, reject such an answer.

“Others consider only those Christians or Jews who speak English of Legonian as their primary language to be Darmeni. I however, reject such an answer.

“I am sure many other answers have been given, but I declare before you today that I reject all such answers. Its is my opinion, and an opinion that I hold very highly, that a Darmeni is anyone who subscribes to the three following virtues, namely: generosity, humility and loyalty. Of course there are other virtues and traits that a Darmeni may have, including commitment, compassion, honesty and kindness, but none more so defines a Darmeni than the ones I listed previously.

“As it pertains to generosity, a Darmeni sees the condition of others within their proximity as uniquely connected with their own condition. To propel their condition forward, a Darmeni propels the condition of others forward, leaving no one behind, but ensuring that all are elevated. If a Darmeni seeks increased personal gain, they do so with the intention of giving a portion of their own gain to others as a means to propel their condition, not because they feel compelled to by any outside pressure, but by the generosity they possess within their hearts.

“As it pertains to humility, a Darmeni sees the condition of others as a higher priority than their own condition. They are more likely to commend, congratulate and praise others than they are to commend, congratulate and praise themselves. They work diligently and complain little, not seeking elevation by means of demands or incessant requests.

“As it pertains to loyalty, a Darmeni does not waver from their ways, sticking to a single manner in their thoughts and actions. A Darmeni does not chase after ideas as a mad man does, adopting an ideology one day and abandoning it the next for another. A Darmeni, upon making a friend, keeps that friend for life, ending friendships after only the gravest of offences when no repentance is offered. A Darmeni is a member of a family for life, and refuses to abandon their family, and if abandoned by their family, continues to love their family regardless.

“Honorable members of this Assembly, that is what I truly believe to be a Darmeni. Although my life has been far from perfect and filled with failures, even with regards to these beliefs, I am loyal to my belief. I offer my own ears to you, I will listen to any and all of your statements, made either privately or publicly in my presence, as a means to foster relations between myself and yourself. And finally, I shall cede the floor to any other speakers who may wish to speak. Thank you.”

After a brief pause, a lone delegate stood up in the rear of the room and began to applaud. Other delegates joined him, some applauding while standing and others while sitting. Only a few delegates sat silently.

Tor Tong Lee finally took his seat, wiping the sweat from his forehead as he did so. He was no fan of public speaking, and was glad to have been standing in the shadow cast between two windows. Before long, the delegates began the business of electing the officers of the Constitutional Assembly.

Mercedini Economics Daily
Economic Aftermath of the Baptism of Fire
@ Bank of Mercedini - Zoloroni, Mercedini

If you've been living under a rock for the past month or so, you may or may not know that Mercedini hosted the 64th Baptism of Fire along with Bonesea. While the sports fans and all-together normal people were focusing on the 'great sport', us nerds at Mercedini Economics Daily have weighed in on the topic with some cold hard facts about the cost of the tournament and whether hosting large scale tournaments is sustainable.

We will start with the main aspects of the tournament, the direct costs and benefits. Estimates have put the cost of hosting the tournament at approximately ¥87bn which factors in the cost of stadium builds and upgrades, regeneration of the surrounding areas, upgrading airports and transport hubs, adding and upgrading businesses in the surrounding area (including restaurants, cafes, shops etc.), advertising, security as well as other minor features that are taken into an account when hosting a large scale tournament. We used a Freedom of Information Request to ask the government's Department of Statistics to look into where the investment came from and where it was spent and here is what we found. Around 49% of the investment came from the government which included grants and loans from the newly set up 'National Regeneration Fund' aswell as investment announced in the Fiscal Policy just after Mercedini were told that they would get the hosting rights, 44% of the investment came collectively from private investors and companies which looked to seek prime and lucrative spots in the newly renovated areas, these included businesses aswell as stadium owners who looked to upgrade their stadiums in time for the Baptism of Fire aswell as the upcoming Mercedinian Premier League. The final 7% or so came from contributions from the Mercedinian Football Association and the Mercedinian Tourism Board who helped to fund the campaign as well as advertise the tournament overseas to help with recouping some of the money spent.

When pressed on the issue of cost in Parliament, Prime Minister Dimitry Larmee wrote:For an extremely developed nation like ourselves, it was extremely important to get Mercedini's name on the map for future hosting jobs and it was very lucrative for the country. We can ensure our citizens that they will see a short and long-term economic benefit to Mercedini hosting such a prestigious tournament. Mercedini hopes to lead the way in the next generation of hosting nations, therefore it was very important for us to get it right and improve our reputation as a reliable and competent host. If I were to say one thing for you to take away from this experience, let it be this; we have been running a surplus for the past couple of years and economically we are very strong, the strongest in the region and quite possibly one of the strongest in the world. We wouldn't have taken it upon ourselves to host such a tournament if we didn't feel we would handle it. Our citizens have welcomed the regeneration of their towns and cities and the economic benefit will be felt far after it has finished.

The real life benefit to Mercedinian citizens is already being felt even though the Baptism of Fire is long since finished. In the most recent report, the level of unemployment fall from 5.2% to 3.7% after the market was flooded with many low-skilled jobs which were taken up by students and other low-skilled workers, this has seen the approval rating of the current government increase to a record-high 71%. In terms of the previously mentioned governmental investment, they are set to recover over 45% of that in the first year alone directly from the new things created specifically for the Baptism of Fire, mainly from taxes from the new or expanded businesses that have been set up and income taxes on the newly created jobs. It is clear to say that the economic power of Mercedini will be magnified and the government could increase it's investment thanks to it's increased income, something unprecedented for a nation in the current economic climate.

It is unclear as to whether private investment has been as successful, but business leaders who have recently expanded or have ventured into Mercedini have stated that the business-friendly nature of Mercedini could mean that the new shops and restaurants could be here to say. The Mercedinian Fa have also expressed their pleasure in the success of the tournament, stating that ticket sales have meant the most of their investment has been recouped as well, stating that the upgrading of stadiums and training facilities will mean the Mercedinian Premier League will be much more competitive and of a much higher standard, they also say it will mean that the future generation of Mercedinian football will have better training facilities to improve and potentially challenge for future World Cups, not that us economists care about any of that. Mercedini has stated it's intention to host further tournaments (such as the upcoming Independents' Cup) and diversify it's hosting range, possibly into sports such as hockey and tennis. The path for Mercedini is certainly looking rosy, and we can't wait for Mercedini to host another tournament so we can do some more number-crunching, screw the sport!

Postby Veldgouwen » Fri Feb 03, 2017 6:16 am

”I think I see him!”
“No, that’s just a grey spot on the screen.”
“But it’s him!”

In regular circumstances, Yassin would have chuckled and when he looked back to it all, later that evening, he would pinpoint that as the moment that gave it away. But for now, he just grunted something to his younger brother about adjusting the settings and getting his big head away from the webcam. In whatever position he tried to lay his body on the bed, it still felt as if was made of a bundle of cardboard larded with ants and trying to balance the laptop on his knees didn’t add much to the balance.

“So, you’ve made it over there, yo!”
“I did,” Yassin replied and after all, a meagre smile broke through the clouds which hid his true face.
“What is it like in San José Something?”

He contemplated for half a second and spoke softly.

“Good. Very good.”

Although it was according to the basic laws of the ‘Interview with the New Kid’, Yassin Tarki couldn’t get it across his lips that this whole experience had all gone fast. After hours on end spend in the mind-numbing tax-free-zone, the flight itself initially had been a relief. That was, until the realisation came that San José Guayabal was actually quite some air miles away from Veldgouwen and that for those incapable of sleeping on an airplane, it presents a horribly long sequence of second-rate movies and tasteless food. Frankly honest, even if you believed that the plan of the gaffer to install a training camp ahead of qualifiers was spot-on, it was hard to defend his choice of destination. To keep the eyes on the price, he had grinned to the journalists.

As Valkeniers had made it very clear a few minutes after landing that he didn’t feel like sharing more than that quote to the press mosquitos and photographers, they had sought for a new prey to catch. Obviously, the three unfamiliar faces in the flock formed an admirable target and they soon trooped around Tarki as if he was a small but much-appraised painting in the Piershaven Gallery. Platitudes and commonplaces apparently were at half price in the tax-free, because they had made their way across the interregional border easily. Yes, it had come as a total surprise when he got the call-up. Of course it was a huge honour. No, he didn’t expect to play immediately but indeed, he would do his very best to get a few minutes and show the coach he deserved the trust. It was bizarre they hadn’t written the interview during that horribly long flight, actually. It wasn’t but the last question that tickled a few nerves.

“So, Yassin, does this make it extra special because of… You know?”
“Because of what?” Yassin asked, as innocent as a newborn.
“Well… Your, ehm… Colour,” the journalist managed to tackle the topic as subtle as a rhino learning to rollerblade.
“My colour? I dare to assume it will get slightly red, considering the current temperatures over here.”

”And yesterday, that sister from Carl, you know, the perky blonde came up to me and you’ll never guess what she asked.”
“No clue,” Yassin grinned. He did have a suggestion or two in mind, but merely the bouncy ball enthusiasm of his kid brother had lighted the atmosphere. Bit by bit, he felt how his body relaxed and tried to appease itself with the circumstances.
“She wanted me to sign her… ehm… her arm and of course I put in big letters ‘Y TARKI’ which is not ‘wrong’, of course!”

It could’ve been the silly story about a teenage girl with the same maturity level as his brother Younes that got Yassin laughing, slowly with deep gaps of breathing in between, but it was how he had to correct his story halfway in the knowledge due to their mother being the proverbial elephant in the room that truly got him cracking.

“Would you stop it with your juvenile nonsense,” she corrected her youngest one in a voice which gave away that she struggled to hide her natural leniency towards the two apples of her eye, “what I want to know, Yassin. How are you doing? Is everyone being a bit nice to you?”

”No, because, you know, you’re a foreigner.”

The tactless phrase from the so-called objective voice of the nation still went back and forth between his ears. After it, he had given the man a dirty look and ended the interview with a quick turn and a ditto walk towards the players bus which had brought them to the training ground. As customs had taken a bit longer than expected, the sun was already on its way back to the earth but Valkeniers had planned at least one session – and he wasn’t the type to accept a ‘no’ in such a case.

It only took a few minutes for Yassin to discover that another truism, about how gathering the best of a nation raises the level on the training pitch, had its roots in a firm truth. For some reason, it seemed as if the pace wasn’t allowed to go below top speed and every time assistant Ronny stressed that this was just a warm-up for the remainder of the week, the boys seemed to find a new gear to put it in. In a way, Yassin was glad that the other newcomers were struggling to meet the expectations as well and the wonders this could do to his own level became evident. Nonetheless, contrary to the lines he previously had mumbled to the press, he wasn’t here just to make up the numbers and the realisation that standing out would be tougher than expected, did crumble some naïve hopes.

“Ok, lads, for the next one I want you to pair up. It’s going to be about physique and power, so find a suiting partner.”

Of course, if you’re with twenty-three, pairing up everyone is impossible. That is an first-grade material but it was immediately clear that not only the rules of modern mathematics were sticking it to him. Even Looibeek, whom hardly anyone knew, had found a partner right away whilst Yassin still stood amidst the group, alone and hesitant on what to do.

“Always a group of three,” Deferme spoke up, “get with us.”
“But...”
“Immediately, tanboy.”

Tanboy. Yassin would have liked it if he could say that the last time he had accepted someone calling him like that was in third grade, but it had rolled off the stands far too often for that statement to be correct.

There was that moment of consideration on what this invitation actually reflected. Guided with a bit of light-hearted banter, an ill-voiced but well-meant expression of being accepted as one of the lads, he got an outstretched arm by one of the senior members of the squad. Or maybe a duo of guys with shoulders like home movers decided to wreck their tiny teammate whilst pointing out with a mild racial slur that his only option was to obey.

Aiming to keep it out of the screen for his family, Yassin rubbed his knee once more. He had discovered shades of black and blue which he didn’t even knew they existed.

“How cool is training with all these stars?” Younes blurted out, “it must be, like, awesomesauce!”

Yassin hesitated a second, before saying, “Yeah… It’s special. High pace.”

What an understatement because it wasn’t solely the treatment given by the pair of central defenders that made Yassin gasp for air but the whole session – two and a half hours of never-ending physical work.

“So, we’re all in the loop now on what we consider as a warm-up at this level,” Ronny grinned, much to the amusement of the more experienced members of the selection, “Johan is already in to check up on Lars after that nasty crash, I’ll join him. Get it all cleaned up and report at the bus in thirty, all right?”

Without further ado, most players started grabbing for the cone nearest to their position, none vastly enthusiast to leave the pitch as they had found it.

“Sounds like a job for the new kids,” Derk Breydels grunted between his teeth and well, he had picked the right timing to get the crowd on his hand, with all legs feeling sore and backs quite broken. Instantly, most dropped what they had already picked up and joined him in a slow stroll towards the showers.

He should have kept his mouth. He could have kept his mouth. But he wouldn’t.

“Ah, com’on,” Yassin protested, “we’re all exhausted. No need to haze the rookies from the start on.”

Derk turned, slow enough to add a dramatic tension, towards the player who would be positioned one row in front of him and with a deep voice, soft but not too soft so none of the squad members would hear, “It’s not about hazing rookies, tanboy. It’s just about hazing you. You don’t belong here. You can clean it all up alone.”

And as he walked off to the dressing room, he grabbed a ball and punted it in the thorny bushes aside of the pitch.

“Stef, Corné, let him solve his own problems.”

The third goalkeeper immediately obeyed and, after staring for a few seconds to the flabbergasted Yassin, Stef decided to take the easy way out and shuffled after Derk, but not without mouthing sorry, mate in his direction.

”But look at the time, we’re keeping you awake, aren’t we?” his mother asked, “and who else is in your room.”
“It’s… ehm, calm now but, indeed, I should have some sleep. Another big day tomorrow,” he tried to smile.
“We didn’t keep your roommate awake, did we?”
“No, no problem… It’s Jim, so, he takes a long time in the bathroom but he’ll be back any second. And probably wants to hit the hay soon as well.”
“Jim? Oh, Jim Decubber. Ah, nice they paired you up with your teammate,” she asked. It struck Yassin how hard it was for her to say something without worry leaking down from each word.
“Yeah… Yeah, that’s nice.”
“You’re sure all is ok?”
“Yeah… Yeah, sure,” he smiled.
“Sleep tight.”

With a firm smash, Yassin closed his laptop and gazed across the dimly-lit room. The luxury was minimal, but all was clean and the space was cleverly used. The bed to his left was empty. Jim had walked off more than an hour ago and hadn’t spoken a word to him since the training. And that wasn’t solely because he did the ride to the hotel in his dirty, scratched clothes as he only nearly made the bus after searching through the bushes.

Jim and he were in the same team for two years running now and although it was a far stretch to say they were thick like thieves, they never had had words before.

This was going to be a long qualification campaign.

Mattijana Handed 'Decent' Draw In World Cup 77 Qualifying

Brenecia, Turori and Anglatia represent biggest challenges for Matej Ljubanik's Side

Mattijana have had their group for the qualifying stage of World Cup 77 revealed, with head Coach Matej Ljubanik deeming the draw to be 'decent enough.'
Mattijana ranked 98th in the world, will play in group 6, alongside the 10th ranked side Brenecia, Turori (26th), Anglatia (42nd), Eastfield Lodge (58th), Tobiasia (94th), Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183rd), Juvencus (220th), Savorjarna (264th) and unranked rookies Kaisaru.

The 10 team per group format means that in theory, Mattijana's chances of progress are somewhat depleted, with only 2 teams moving forward from qualifying, but after some positive recent form moved the side up the rankings, Matej Ljubanik remained optimistic about his side's chances.

"I think it is a good group to be in. We are the 6th ranked side, so in theory, we are solid mid-table, but of course we want to punch above our weight and hopefully threaten those who expect to qualify. I think the new format makes things very competitive, so we should be ready for some good matches and hopefully also some good results. We have met a few of the sides before, so we roughly know what they are about and we will prepare well for all our matches. We know we need to be ruthless against the lower-ranked teams and then pick off some of the teams above us."

By Matchday:

February 5th: Kaisaru vs Mattijana, Away Venue tbc

'Not a Football nation' by their own admission, Kaisaru are the weakest team in the group and should be a good warm up for Matej Ljubanik's side, who will be determined to make sure they put the minnows away. A very defensive side, Kaisaru will likely play on the counter-attack, but the main test for them will be defensively, as an inexperienced defense takes on those who on paper are far superior. Yet all teams must start somewhere, and Ljubanik will be keen to make sure that Mattijana can spoil the debutant's party.

February 6th: Mattijana vs Brenecia, Stadijo Dinamov, Petrovijanka

What are on paper the easiest opponents for Mattijana are followed by the hardest as world number 10s Brenecia visit Petrovijanka. The Brenecians both expect to and are expected to qualify with ease and Mattijana will have their work cut out if they want to get a result from the match.
A naturally fast and attacking side, comparisons can be drawn between the attacking styles of the two teams with quick wingers and an ethos of chance creation at the heart of the Brenecian side. Raven Cullen's side will relentlessly attack and counter-attack and the Mattijanan defense will have to maintain intensity if they are to succeed in keeping out the likes of Squire Trevelyan, Roisin Carroll and all time Brenecian top scorer Ursula Rankin.

February 7th: Great Caledonia and North Hybernia vs Mattijana, Steendam Arena, Steendam:

The third opponents for Mattijana are in their debut World Cup, but have already found success in International football after finishing as runner up in the inaugural Global Cup of Soccer and the semis of the 64th Baptism of Fire.
Having said that, the World Cup and the arrival of many more experienced sides will prove tough to adapt to and with a much more demanding schedule, Walter Madden may find squad rotation an issue, as well as adjusting to the demands of more competitive attacks. They remain a threat to Mattijana though, especially early in the cycle, and Matej Ljubanik will be keen to make sure his side doesn't slip up in Hollandia.

February 8th: Mattijana vs Anglatia, Stadijo Nasinal, Burges:

The first match in Mattijana's second city will be a tough one for the hosts, as world number 42s Anglatia make a first visit to Mattijana. The away side have been through a rough patch lately, crashing out of the last World Cup at the qualifying stage despite holding a group stage lead, as well as a group stage exit at the Copa Rushmori. Defensive frailties have been clear, but a punchy attack and promising youth setup remain, and they will be by no means a pushover. However, with home advantage, Matej Ljubanik will have marked out this game as one that needs to be won if his side is to make progress.

February 9th: Tobiasia vs Mattijana, The Ark of Tobiasia, Tobiasia City.

This is the real grudge match for Mattijana, and a must win for the side if they are to progress at all. A 3-4-3 formation means that this is another side with attacking intentions and Striker Fraser Philips, with 19 career goals for Liz Sheffield's side, is the main threat going forward. Their position 4 places above the Mattijanans means this should be a competitive, but winnable encounter, and so it has to be if Matej Ljubanik's ambitions are to become realized.

February 10th: Mattijana vs Juvencus, Stadijo Katarina Zafarova, Revinka:

The first match to be held in the covered Stadium on the South Coast of Mattijana will be against the 220th ranked minnows, participating in their debut world cup cycle. Little is known of them, but once again, Matej Ljubanik will be keen to avoid a slip up at the home of many of his players.

February 11th: Turori vs Mattijana, away venue tbc:

A somewhat tougher encounter for the Mattijanan squad, Turori, part of the larger nation of Vilita and Turori, are ranked 26th in the world and are in theory the second best team in the group. The side is an experienced one, having participated in International football for a long time, and will likely use their tactical skill to cause problems for Mattijana. A result from this match would be commendable, but may prove to be a step beyond the Mattijanan capabilities.

February 12th: Eastfield Lodge vs Mattijana, away venue tbc:

Another tough away game follows for Mattijanans, with a visit to 58th ranked Eastfield Lodge next on the schedule. An unusual 5 man attack forms the main threat of the side, with wingers and heavily offensive midfielders commonly used to terrorise the opposition defense. Matej Ljubanik may try and find gaps between the defensive and offensive setup with a more balanced midfield, but using his own wingers and strikers to play counter-attacking football may also be an option.
The fair and honest nature of the Eastfielder team will make for a very watchable game, whilst it will prove fascinating to see how the tactical battle unfolds, particularly as matches like this will prove tricky for both sides.

February 13th: Mattijana vs Savojarna, Stadijo Nasinal, Burges.

Mattijana are able to return home to a more straightforward game after a tough couple of matches as Savorjarna, ranked 264th in the world. But don't let this fool you, as the Savojarnan team is one of the few more defensive sides in the group, and often use strength and a punchy array of set-pieces to frustrate more technical opponents. Mattijana will need to be well disciplined at the back, but creative and unpredictable up top if they are to win this by the convincing margin that they look for.

= FUN-TASTIC FACTS =
With Dechlan Hawkes

Hello, hello, hello. It is I, your favourite guy Dechlan Hawkes, here today with fun facts coming right at you! Now, with the WC77 qualification just right around the corner, I think it would be appropriate to give you the unknown facts about Tomikosan and the football culture behind it. From anime terms used as Thomitei slangs to our national team's nickname, here they are:

Top 5 Facts about Thomitei Football

Number 1ne............

The First Football Match

Football in Tomikosan has existed for decades, since around the late 19th century for lower class people to play as an entertainment. But did you know when was the first football match ever played?

Well, if you want to find out, the first football match traces back to 1904 when the Arlecdon Cup was formed as the first ever professional tournament in Tomikosan. It only had two teams: Royal Madron (soldiers and those who served in the army) and Calderon (gentlemen and the high class). Both teams faced each other in Hyabor Ground, one of the oldest stadiums in the country. Royal Madron won the match and received it's first ever trophy. Calderon, on the other hand, would later won the next edition of the Arlecdon Cup. The score was quite huge as well: 21 goals to Royal Madron compared to 18 Goals to Calderon. It still remains to be the biggest score in Thomitei football.

Fact 2wo............

Philip the GIRL-keeper

Philip Tetherwell was the most famous goalkeepers in Tomikosan, spanning his career for 21 years (1964 to 1985). He saved 780 shots and blocked 600 of them, won Best Goalkeeper Award for four consecutive seasons and leads Tomikosan to the golden era of football. However, what you might not know about him was how he got his nickname "Akko".

When he was 10 years old, Tetherwell was helping a young girl to buy candy for her everytime his school was finished. Eventually, she loved him so much that at his birthday party, she gave him something special: a blue dress that was meant for the young girl's sister. Philip decided to immediately wore the dress to show off to his friends, thinking they will laugh at him. When they saw it, he did not expect the reaction of his friends. They are instead shocked and disgusted by the fact a 10 year old dared to wore a dress, so they gave him a nickname: "Akko" meaning "Cross-dressing" in Armei.

Tetherwell said that he never regretted that moment when he did that. In fact, he called it 'hilarious' and 'disturbing' at the same time.

Number 3hree............

Anime Terms and Football Slangs

If you are an anime fan, chances are you have heard of different terms in your anime fanbases, forum websites or whatever. You can identify different characters like a normal person would. These anime slangs, however, are also part of football lingo in Tomikosan! Here are the different words:

Normal - A person who is obsessed with Japanese Culture and tries to act like one of them, although they usually fail.
Thomitei - A hooligan a.k.a violent football fan.

Normal - High class student. Famous for it's phrase 'Notice me, Senpai,' meaning a call from an admirer towards someone they love to notice them.
Thomitei - A pundit (an expert in football, giving out opinions to public).

Normal - Literally 'Magical Girl'. Type of genre involving young characters (usually female) transforming to activate their power.
Thomitei - Someone who has qualities of a good leader (such as charisma and confidence), therefore he/she is suitable to be elected as a captain.

Normal - A Japanese voice actor/actress.
Thomitei - A Thomitei youth player that will become legends in the future.

These are some words that had been adapted to slangs. Why? Because we love 'em, of course! Just don't get confused with the words they are using if you have a conversation with a football fan in Tomikosan and you'll be fine.

Number 4our............

Keeping up with the Youth Systems

Youth players are essential to Thomitei football. They are the key points to make a successful football club and if done properly, become legendary players in the process. So how do we get the youth systems we have today? And why do we value them so much?

First things first, in 1987, Arnold Gardner was elected as new president of the I.T.F.A. (Imperial Tomikosan Football Association). His dream was to revolutionize football and make it widely popular to normal people. He did this by building football camps all over Tomikosan to bring in young boys and girls who had potential to become professional players. Gardner also hired top coaches who had experience in the beautiful game and announced every school must establish a football team.

The plan worked out very well and the 1990s so the era of greatest football clubs consisted of young prospects playing with old veterans.

There is a reason why do we care about them. As we said before, the youth players are important to a great club. But also, the youth players are the future to the beaufitul game and grow up to become the best players in the league today. Without them, it would be impossible.

Number 5ive............

Vin Vytalie Vocaloid

Image
Football fans cosplaying as Vocaloid characters: BoF 63rd Red Blackiland and Flardania

'Vin Vytalie Vocaloid' literally means 'the Vocaloid Army' in the Armei Language. Tomikosan has a great, vibrant culture dedicating to Vocaloids since the release of MEIKO (released in November 5th, 2004) and even reached football as well. Of course, the most well-known character, Hatsune Miku, turned young lads to vocaloid fans with a striking appearance and a smooth voice. The producers make their songs using voice synthesizers like her, while the fans get to enjoy the music like they never heard before.

Back to football, Tomikosan loved Vocaloids so much that in 2010, 5,000 passionate football fans in Kanzig gathered around in Scarlet Park to sing the renowned 'World is Mine' during a football match between Kanzig Lionhearts and Polizia FA. Since then, it is quite common for football fans to sing or chant just about any Vocaloid song as they wished (though songs with inappropriate themes are not acceptable to chant).

No matter who their rivals are or who the teams are, the Vocaloid Army will always show the passionate side of football with the optimistic side of the fandom in the other

That is all of today! These are the five facts about Tomikosan and the football culture! We hoped that you will enjoy our facts and hopefully submitt your own facts as well. We see you next time, and until then I bid you adieu!

Seven human years. That's the ammount of time Les Guerriers weren't included on the World Cup qualifiers.
They weren't too far away from football itself, in all fairness, Kitsunes were a common thing at the Sunrisian Championship.
And, in a way, they were already expecting the Sunrisian current state on the beautiful game.
Serebii Arceus, hailing from a Sunrisian ex-pat part of the country. The Arceusians, backed by Sunrisian players most of the time, used this time to become number three on title numbers.
Their last title came on the heels of a massive lead over the Wolfenstade Ehrgeiz.
Wolfenstade Ehrgeiz did manage to win a title on this time as well, tying the Legión lead for four seasons.

Comme la Déesse est mon témoin,
Je serai toujours
Un guerrier de football
Pour tous les jours

Kitsunian football at first could link their origins to many teams, but when the LMF-K reform happened, many of those all merged into Cápitale Legión.
Originally, football was restricted to the Armed Forces of the Holy Kitsunian Empire, with the idea of conditioning the forces to face whichever treat showed up.
So teams on the past were always some sort of section of any side of the Kitsunian Armed Forces.
Only when practice of the sport was declared clear for all levels of society, these teams would merge and form three respectable Kitsunian teams.
First and certainly more noticeable, there was the Kitsunian Army-based Armée de la Déesse. Armée would be the first Kitsunian team to ever win an international tournament, claiming victory on the Unzucneru Association's regional title known as the Heritage Cup.
Hot on their tails, Kitsunian Navy's Marine du Kitsunia was considered their most important rivals, having to share the Stade de la Déesse. Marine was a side regarded often for their fiery style of play but never quite matching it with success.
Finally, Forces Aériennes. Based after the Kitsunian Air Force and later nicknamed Aviation when the Ligue 1 tried to go for international following, they were a sympathetic side, in all fairness and never really got relegated but that was about it.
These three teams ended up monopolizing the football scene at the capital of the nation, never exactly pumping any sort of interest by the natives, who thought all three teams were too... forced. More often than not, Cápitale fans would support teams like Étudiants, Fortune, Caen, Sioux and Soleis.
The LMF-K couldn't have that.

The Cápitale Legión was thus formed, fusing the three teams and making an appeal for the large Cápitale crowd's support.
Being the host of the newest Déesse Clare's first steps in a football field made the Legión's crowds fill up for their first season.
What also helped was a forming of a rival.
As is, the current day Cápitale Legión fields a respectable team with just a modicum of players being still associated with any of the Armed Forces.
Of note, the Legión fields NT players Jean Claude Cheveauxcourts and Hanami Loreneaux. Additionally, the team relies on the deep experience of Polarian midfielder Torre Jansen.
He still claims there's something in the water that just helps him not feel age so much.

And then there's the Soeurs.
The Soeurs were a team on the past, representing the Kitsunian church but eventually refrained from taking part on the basis of how pro football would eat them apart.
Had La Déesse not requested them to return to the fields with the LMF-K, partnering with investors to form a pro team with the graces of the church.
Eventually, however, those investors backed out and the team became solely owned by the church who proceeded to do a fair job with them.
In a way, it was to be expected, as the Priestesses from the capital used to be massive thorns on the Armed Forces' sides.
The team took a different approach, not having sponsorships or any of the like and having most of its' players be former Priestesses.
Of interest, there's center-forward Lucile Morgane who represents the national team.

It's a bit of a shame that there's not a lot to talk about the third Cápitale team, Cápitale Nationalet.
Formed after a fair run by the University of Cápitale team on the Championnát National, it was brainstormed by several UNCAP alumni that thought this was the time they could actually be a fantastic team.
Nationalet started their history with a fourth place on the first ever Deuxieme Division season and after that, the team got promoted and hit the door with style, reaching sixth place but bounced off to have weaker and weaker seasons.
Eventually, the team found itself at the Deuxieme Division, where it became a regular for a couple of more seasons.
This season, however, the team finally found itself back on the first division after getting the third place on the second tier.
The team isn't quite remarkable, but their affiliation with UNCAP, a team that is doing well at the Championnát National could bring some interesting players to the fold.

Stil, there's much more on Kitsunia-Déesse.
And hopefully, we can cover them all.
