Elejamian national cricket team
Selección de críquet de Elejamia
Elejam cerikit tim

Cricket is a fairly new sport to Elejamie, with the first match on Elejamian soil being played in 1960. However, it wasn't until 1967 that a national side was formed and 1974 when the first domestic match was played; a limited-overs game between Aventry and Surter held at the recently-built Aventry Cricket Ground, with Aventry winning by seven wickets. In 1987, a small limited-overs (50 overs per side, to be exact) cricket tournament - the Cross-Tractal Cup - was played, with Wyken winning all of their group games against East Reise, Nuevo Paraíso and Mittedorf before beating Aventry in the semi-final and Autumnia in the final (Autumnia would later go on to win the 1989 edition). Three more editions were played before the tournament was cancelled in 1991 for unknown reasons, with West Reise (who had won the trophy in 1988 and 1990) being allowed to keep it. The tournament was still a success however and, in 2005, a Twenty20 cricket league - the Elejamie Cricket League (or ECL for short) - began.

Test cricket, on the other hand, hasn't reached the same amount of popularity that limited overs has reached. In fact, that first game on Elejamian soil - held at the 35,000-capacity Davenport Baseball Ground, which was eventually demolished in 1987- saw a packed crowd on the opening day but attendance dwindled as the match went on and, by the fifth day, there were 2,500 people left watching. And, despite being formed in 1967, the national team had only played a handful of test cricket matches (the first of which was in 1974 and the most recent being in August 1997, where they won by 14 runs). However, despite being a mostly Twenty20 nation (and, indeed, the entire 15-man team is made up of Twenty20 players - all of whom compete in the ECL - who had received extensive training to be test-worthy), Cricket Elejamie are confident that the Greenblacks will do well in their two-game test series against Liventia (who currently reside fifth in the table, with threes across the board).

Due to his wife going into labour less than 24 hours before they were to set off to Liventia, Kelly Entwistle (whose real name is Kyle Shaun Entwistle) dropped out and was replaced by Dave Garner. Fortunately, due to the fact that he was selected as a reserve just in case anyone had to pull out or got injured, Garner trained with the team, meaning that he's fit and ready for that first game starting Wednesday.

Don't kill any of my players. You can injure one of them but they have to miss the next game. Other than that, go nuts.

  • Hopefully this is alright. Any problems with this, please let me know so I can go back and take out, change or put in anything that needs to be done.
  • Even though they wear all-white in test cricket, feel free to call the national team "The Greenblacks" if you want to.
  • And no, I didn't forget about this. I decided to wait until Block 13 started before I put up a roster and information.

Sterne confirms he will retire after Gruenberg series

In a perhaps unsurprising announcement, Wray captain Simon Sterne has announced that he will retire following the conclusion of Wray's tour of Gruenberg, the fourth test of which gets underway tomorrow.

The 38 year old captain called a press-conference in Wray's hotel in Flurthwel, reading a brief, pre-written statement announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket upon Wray's return from Gruenberg.

Good morning everyone,

In consultation with my team-mates and senior team management, I have decided that the time is right for me to retire from cricket. It was not an easy decision - I love this game and I love representing my country, but I've felt that the time is right to step down and pass the reigns onto someone else. At 38, innings are a bit tougher, the sun is a bit hotter and the days are a bit longer, and I'm not sure whether my body is still up to it. The mind is still strong, but it's the body that ultimately makes the calls. I will play in the last test here in Flurthwel, but that will be my last game of professional cricket. It's been a wonderful journey, one I'm immensely grateful for, but I think it's right that someone else gets a shot now. Glenn Mitchell will take over captaincy from me, whilst the selectors will convene to discuss who fills the vacant number 3 role next season. Thank you.

Glenn Mitchell's elevation to captain is, however, one of little surprise - he has been long earmarked as Sterne's successor, and has been groomed in field placement and bowling changes progressively throughout this season.

Sterne appeared somewhat downcast during the press conference - he took no questions, instead allowing Team Manager Irvine Reid to field questions, and was not seen for the rest of the afternoon. He was seen at the team meal in the hotel that evening, but again declined to comment.

Sterne leaves international cricket as one of the greatest to have played the game, that is for sure. Not considering his performance in the final test, he will retire having played 42 test matches, averaging an imperious 53.78, scoring 3765 runs in the process. He has made 8 test centuries, and 21 test fifties, his highest score of 213 coming against Chelta in GCF 6. He captained Wray to their first ever series victory, as well as historic wins over Liventia and Gruenberg, and briefly took Wray to the top of the world rankings. He will be remembered fondly in Wray's cricketing community, and has effectively a free pick over what position, if any, he decides to take afterwards. He has mentioned briefly that he may be interested in coaching overseas - how tasty would it be to see Sterne coach Liventia or Gruenberg against Wray?

As for his vacant number 3 slot, a position which has been secured since Wray began playing test cricket, some have suggested Tom Sutcliffe will move into his natural number 3 role, with the recall of Ed McCaughey, or the promotion of domestic openers Kelly Rivett, 24 or Ross Maitland, 23, who have both impressed this season in first-class cricket. Alternatively, Sutcliffe could stay at opener - where averages 59 - and a middle-order shuffle could take place to have Jamie Jackson or Glenn Mitchell take the place, and recall Aaron Carter or Mason Hargreaves to fill a role in the middle order.

Finney brothers' masterclass hands Liventia semi-final series lead

ETHANE— Sean Finney claimed 11 wickets and Max Finney scored 188 runs as Liventia took a 1–0 lead in their best-of-three Test World Championship semi-final against Ethane.

Older brother Max, who stepped down as captain earlier in the season, hit a majestic first-innings 152 before adding an unbeaten 36 in the second innings as the former world number one side dominated the hosts in the first such playoff game in Test cricket in six seasons.

Dylan Hennessey, James Quinn, and current captain Ollie Kerr all added fifties of their own as the tourists racked up a commanding total of 478 for the loss of just three wickets when Kerr declared late into the second day to have five overs at the hosts before the close of play.

Ethane scored at over a run-per-over quicker than Liventia in their response, but managed to lose opening bat Jacqueline Simpson to a Sean Finney inswinger that knocked back her leg peg before stumps. Finney would take a further six victims to claim a seven-wicket first innings haul, as the hosts — who finished top of the season's league standings with 14 points from seven games — crumbled for just 231 before tea on day three, a deficit of 247 runs and allowing Kerr to enforce the follow-on.

On a track increasingly conducive to the tweakers, off-spinner Daniel Quinn then removed both Ethane openers cheaply before the middle order put up some resistance, taking the score to a somewhat more respectable 61/2 at the end of play. The scoring rate was upped as day four dawned brightly and apparently good for batting, but regular wickets for Daniel Quinn, Matt Geach and Jonathan Adams ensured Ethane were unable to get a rhythm going before Sean Finney mopped up the tail, taking 4/24 in his last three overs for match figures of 11/188.

With light fading badly, Kerr promoted himself to open the batting alongside Max Finney with the visitors needing 71 to win from a minimum of 20 overs left on day four, and after the pair had knocked off 66 of those runs in the allotted time, the umpires granted the batsmen the extra half hour – of which only four minutes were required.

Liventia side for the second semi-final Test (unchanged):
MA Finney, DA Hennessey, JS Millbank, JCA Quinn, OH Kerr*, GP Goudreau†, DM Lewis, MC Geach, DM Quinn, SV Finney, JPK Adams

Article posted on the GruenCric website.
Few places certain even as Gruenberg vies for title

Rarely in any sport can there have been a world championship semifinalist with as many question marks on its teamsheet as is the case with Gruenberg's Test side ahead of their series against The Licentian Islands. Though Pitkin Deisler and Compoundinterest Hmnff have forged an excellent opening partnership and iiPriyuff Uglaxx remains as reliable as ever, elsewhere uncertainty prevails. Benny Enchante, his own powers clearly waning, has had little support in the middle order, with Ruttup Izaizakanorb, Whimwhob Tootash and Ettexinor Broimbles all struggling to prove themselves reliable Test match players. Azzawozzawoowizzbitz Tellflikkiflarknon may never realize his full potential as an allrounder, Kahunk Uvaevaluvae's subpar batting performances cannot be atoned for through silky glovework alone, and perhaps most damningly for a country made famous by spin bowling, the slow bowlers have lacked penetration all season long, with Lemonzesty Yowoax's low arm action failing to extract significant turn and Salajaff Qilairana clearly more of a batting all-rounder - and a manically inconsistent one at that.

While the same team that played Liventia and Wray is likely to take the field against The Licentian Islands, with a recall for Ke Ke at the expense of Broimbles to rebalance the bowling attack, the dependence on Hmnff's runs and Uglaxx's wickets has left Deisler to turn to the pitch, rather than his own players, for assistance. In what some dissident bloggers have labelled a "cynical ploy", the GCB has nominated the flattest wicket in the country for the final Test: the Flurthwel Oval (+6). Though the official press release has indicated The Oval has been picked for its historic and cultural importance to Gruenberg, sources close to those within the GCB Test Committee believe the real reason is the knowledge that, should a third Test be needed, a draw will be enough to secure Gruenberg a place in the Championship final. The first two Tests will be played in more bowler friendly conditions, at the Moroschwegen Arena of Death (-2) and Silver Crown Ground in Arradan (-1).

Article posted on the GruenCric website.
Double change in middle order, but hosts still counting on home advantage

Ettexinor Broimbles will be recalled and a debut handed to Plumbert Sthwlorq as Gruenberger selectors' patience with perpetually underperforming middle order batsmen Ruttup Izaizakanorb and Whimwhob Tootash has led to their being dropped for the crucial Second Test of the World Championship, to be played at the Rajjenkali Mire of Goatliness. A win would seal the title for Gruenberg on rankings, while a draw or defeat would leave them needing a third Test, to be played in the hostile desert city of Sal-Siabi, considered something of a home "fortress". The GCB have admitted they are freely taking advantage of the home conditions, giving Liventia games in the capital city, jungle interior, and desert borderlands, to discomfit them, but have defended the tactics, with chief selector A'Zler Hchode stating that any team with the chance to win the championship would do "exactly the same".

Izaizakanorb may count himself unfortunate, having recently scored a century, but that came against a desperately overpowered Licentian side, and otherwise he has failed to provide a stable base at #3. Tootash's form last season has not continued, and his fourth innings demise in the First Test in Flurthwel was truly painful to behold. Broimbles and Sthwlorq can also contribute part-time spin, though Gruenberg's spin resources have been found wanting over the course of the season, with questions being raised about the crackdown on illegal actions that led to many spinners' arms being chopped off so they could be biomechanically tested (the findings that they were in fact not using illegal degrees of flexion was of little comfort).

Ground details: Rajjenkali is a tropical city in Gruenberg's swampy interior, which has hosted two Test matches. The Mire of Goatliness is a fairly small ground on a small elevation overlooking the ancient city; the historic city walls actually encircle the ground along one section of the boundary, while the other sections are lined with tall trees providing a modicum of shade. One of the more modern grounds in the Gruenberger cricketing establishing, the Mire is well equipped and hospitable, and the populace are used to dealing with tourists, thanks to the famous Supremely Goat-Enabled Statues the city boasts. Rajjenkali's soil is red and contains a lot of clay (which was used to make the Statues); as such, the pitch is flat and bouncy. Spinners need to bowl quickly, but they can get extravagant lift and quick turn if they do; seamers are however shit outta luck. It is more or less a very good batting surface, helped by the short boundaries, and the humidity adds to this, tiring out bowlers and fielders quickly. However, a good spinner can still pick up a hatful later in the game. Rajjenkali has a wet heat rather than a dry one, with extremely high humidity factors.
