1st Werenth Regional Football Tournament [Invitation Only]

Postby Ouadai » Fri Aug 19, 2016 8:20 pm

1st Werenth Regional Football Tournament

Overview:
Greetings, as-salam alaykum, and welcome to the first-ever Werenth Regional Football Tournament! This will be the first of what I hope to be many installments in the Werenth RP Region's local football tournament. The tournament will be open to all nations in the Werenth Region, as well as select invited nations who are friends of the region. The tournament will be scorinated by myself, Ouadai, using NS Footy Sim 3.01.

Participation:
The tournament will be open to all current members of the Werenth Region. As of today, six Werenth nations have expressed interest in participating in the tournament: Ouadai, Praciba, Molibar, Stjernland, Al Imaru, and Yuzhnyy. While I can run a tournament with only six nations, I would like to get a bigger group of eight-ten nations together. Since Praciba has already found one friend (Elejamie) who is willing to participate, I will keep signups open to other less-active Werenth nations for the next week. I will also look at Ultimaverse for other participants in the coming week. I hope to get a field of 8-12 nations together for the tournament in this time. In one week I will finalize the participants and lay out a schedule for matches.

Format:
The final format of the tournament will vary depending on how many nations participate. Participating nations will be randomly placed into one of two or three groups. Each group will consist of three or four teams. The group stage will be a double round robin taking either six days (9 or 12 nations) or eight days (7-8, or 10-11 nations). After the group stage, the top four (7-9 nations) or six (10+ nations) will advance to a single elimination tournament. Tie-breaking in the group stage will based upon points, goal difference, goals for, and goals against, in that order. In the event of an unbreakable tie, teams will play a single-elimination match to determine which team advances. In the event of a tie during the single-elimination phase of the tournament, the victor will be determined by a penalty shootout.

Scorination and RP Bonuses:
All matches will be scored using NS Footy Sim 3.01. Since to my knowledge, none of Werenth's nations are regular participants in the World Cup, I will not be using the KPB ranking system. Rather, all participating nations will be equally ranked with 0 points at the start of the tournament. All nations will receive a flat 1 point RP bonus for posting a team roster. Additionally, each participating team can receive a maximum of 2 points RP bonus each matchday for roleplaying during that day. Depending on the final format of the tournament, this could result in a maximum RP bonus of between 17 and 23 points. For those unfamiliar with RP bonuses, they improve the effective skill of teams which RP more, improving the odds of winning their next match. RP bonuses will be based upon length and quality of posts, as judged by the scoring nation. To prevent bias on my part, Ouadai will receive a base 1 (of 2 maximum) bonus points per RP post.

Location:
The 1st Werenth Regional Football Tournament will take place in Sultanate of Ouadai. Ouadai is a small, landlocked country in south-eastern Werenth. Ouadai is home to 2.5 million people hailing from a variety of indigenous cultures. Islam is very prevalent in Ouadaian society, and it has been strongly influenced by historic and modern Arabic cultures. The nation also has a strong French influence, as a legacy of late European colonialism, which is particularly prevalent large cities. Visitors who take the time to scratch the surface will find a nation of exotic cultures, strong passions, and affable and willing hosts.

Stjernland's Roster and Information

Kongeriget Stjernland
National Football Team

Introduction

The Stjernlandic national football team has historically been one of the more reputable football teams in the region, being especially famous for its eager development of youth players and its elegant, attacking style of football. Under the leadership of manager Karl Rommedahl, who previously made great strides with the Hellissandur Hellcats, this tradition has continued unabated. The Stallions, as they are affectionately called, employ an aggressive, possession-oriented style of play, favoring runs along the wings and daring crosses and passes over the more conservative methods of other teams. Rommedahl has a well-deserved reputation as a fitness nut, and has ensured that his footballers will arrive at the tournament in optimal condition. Einar Sigurðsson wears the captain's armband and his on-field chemistry with veteran play-maker Martin Daamgard, maestro Milan Kommenovic, and, most especially, fellow Valmarinn FC teammate Amezwar Ramdane will inspire fear in even the most stalwart of defenders. The illustrious Frederick Olsen and the more lackluster Gylfi Hendriken serve as holding, defensive midfielders, enabling their teammates to venture further up the field. While Tryggvi Gulbrandsen's appearance is surprising due to his shortage of pace, his tackling prowess and knowledge of positioning still make him a strong option as a center back, with young firebrand Lilo Sangare more than making up for his shortcomings. Westergaard and Matthiessen are average, but, with the anchor provided by the last two, this shouldn't matter much. Lastly, Søren Mikkelsen should stave off any attempts on goal admirably. The bench is arguably even more impressive with players like Ronnlund, Anazar, Ben-Nahyan, and Zharkov being most notable. Additionally, some have been inclined to wonder why von Sydow or Regnell didn't replace Gulbrandsen in the back four.

History

Following the introduction of football to Stjernland in 1899, it swiftly became the nation's most popular pastime, outstripping horseback riding within a decade. Small, unprofessional clubs formed at the neighborhood level dominated the early municipal football leagues that had cropped up in Hellisandur, Sollefterness, Vlissingmaar, and Retfærdigheim. These teams set matches for Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, establishing an unusual staple of Stjernlandic footballing culture relative to the rest of the world. In 1921, King Christian VI, an avid fan of football, founded the National Premier League (NPL) through an edict which granted royal patronage to the Sollefterness Municipal League (SML). Four years later, Sejleres FC became the first fully professional football club to feature in the NPL, winning the title in 1925. The continuing success of Sejleres FC, who won five consecutive titles, lead to a proliferation of privately-owned, professional clubs which soon saw more locally based clubs relegated to their former municipal leagues.

In the 1931-32 season, Vlissingmaar United FC, the oldest surviving football club in Stjernland, stole the title away from the favorites and long-time champions, marking the dawn of competitive play in the premier league, not to mention a shift from Sollefterness to Vlissingmaar as the Mecca of Stjernlandic footballing culture. Clubs like Vlissingmaar City FC, Borgeres FC, VFC Samkoma, and Bryggjunni FC soon rose to dominated the upper levels of play. Most managers associated with the aforementioned teams prioritized defense and sought to encourage technical prowess in their footballers. This era would persist until the early 1960's, when Caspar Hovdenak, a mercurial striker who had signed with Albert Schau's formerly unknown Valmarinn FC, led his club to national dominance. After Hovdenak, finesse, pluck, and brilliant attacking flourishes became the hallmarks of Stjernlandic football. Towards the end of the 1960's, the market became more international, and the NPL even scheduled fixtures between top domestic clubs and foreign clubs.

In 1972, Sigmund II, at the behest of the Althing, agreed to furnish the construction of a national football stadium in Sollefterness. This would become Mithrandír Stadium. In the same year, Eysteinn Sommerfelt, President of the National Football Association, changed the name of the league to the Stjernlandic Premier League (SPL) in recognition of the international scope that game had achieved. Sommerfelt also oversaw the creation of the first national football team, employing it for charity matches and international benefits. In 1986, Caspar Hovdenak, who had gained notoriety as a player for Valmarinn FC and later as the manager of AC Sollefterness, was appointed as the manager of the national team. He proceeded to lead it through a golden age, setting many principles that are still applied by his successors.

Send me a TG and I'll put you on the list of possible candidates. I was hoping to wait and see if more Werenth nations joined, then use Ultimaverse nations to fill out the rest of the roster to avoid getting awkward uneven groups. You'll more than likely have a spot, but I'd appreciate a TG because that's how I'm keeping track of everyone. Also cuts down on clutter in the thread. Thanks!

Ouadai: A Practical Guide for Visitors
Prouduced by the Ouadaian Minstry of Culture

In preparation for the upcoming international sporting events which will be taking place in the Sultanate of Ouadai this summer, the Ouadaian Ministry of Culture has commissioned this helpful guide for foreign visitors who may be considering visiting our glorious nation. Visitors, whether sports fans or simple tourists, are encouraged to consult this guide before entering our country, in order to acquaint themselves with a bit of Ouadai's unique and diverse cultures, languages, and political situation. With the proper preparation, visitors of all nationalities, ethnicity, and religions will find their visit to Ouadai safe, pleasant, and memorable. We hope to see you soon!

Before You Visit:
Anyone planning a visit to Ouadai must apply for an entry visa from the Ouadaian Interior Ministry in order to pass through customs at any port of entry. Applications for an entry visa may be made at any of Ouadai's many consulates around the globe. If there is not a consulate in your nation, applications may be sent directly to the Ouadaian Interior Ministry at:

Ouadaian Interior Ministry
Department of Travel/Immigration
16. Abdul Al-Karim Boulevard
Abéché, Sultanate of Ouadai

Please allow 20-30 days for applications to be processed.

Prospective visitors from Western nations should be aware that Ouadaian customs laws strictly prohibits the import, possession, and use of alcohol by all persons regardless of nationality or country of origin.

Transportation:
So you want to visit the Sultanate of Ouadai? The first step is learning how. Due to Ouadai's unique location in south-eastern Werenth, travel to the country may be difficult for foreign visitors, particularly those traveling from nations farther abroad than the Werenth Region. Fortunately, Ouaddai's two major airports - Al-Karim International Airport (AKI) in Abéché, and Gbandi International Airport (GBI) in Longé - are serviced by domestic and foreign airlines flying to/from most other Werenth capital cities. Visitors traveling from outside the Werenth Region will most likely have to schedule connecting flights to either Tanfidhi (Al Imaru), Civitanam (Praciba), or Sollefterness (Stjernland), rather than flying directly.

Once in the Sultanate of Ouadai, visitors will find transportation more straight-forward. Whether you are entering the country from Abéché or Longé, there are a variety of bus, taxi, and rail services available for use. Visitors who fly in to Longé for the upcoming US Summer Games or Werenth Regional Football Tournament are encouraged to travel by train, taking advantage of the two daily passanger trains which travel from Longé to Abéché. Travel by rail is available every day of the week, and will considerably reduce travel time, with rail transport taking approximately 4 hours and 10 minutes between these two major cities (as opposed to 6-9 hours by bus). Those wishing to travel farther abroad will have to use bus or taxi transport, which can take considerably longer depending on the destination. Those interested in hiring a long-distance taxi are encouraged to visit one of the Ministry of Culture's many information kiosks located in Abéché and Longé, to obtain a list of safe and certified Ouadaian taxi services.

Map of Rail and Road Transportation Routes

Languages:
Once you've reached Ouadai, you probably want to leave the airport and see the sights - maybe meet a few of the friendly and hospitable locals. This is much more difficult for visitors who do not speak one of Ouadai's many languages. For international travelers not well versed in the local languages, a brief education in English, French, or Modern Standard Arabic will be most beneficial, as these are the three foreign languages taught in most secondary schools within Ouadai. In major cities like Abéché, Longé, and Mongo, many of the locals are at least conversational in one of these three languages (although the Janubi Arabic dialect may be difficult to understand at first). Additionally, there are many guides and translators available for hire in Abéché and Longé. However, as with taxi services, visitors wishing to hire a guide or translator are encouraged to consult the Ministry of Culture's list of certified guides and translators in order to ensure the safety and efficacy of these services.

For the aspiring linguist visitor, the peoples of Ouadai speak over 43 unique languages. The most common, and useful of these languages are: Janubi Arabic, Maba, Furs, Massalit, Daju, Ngbandi, Tebu, and Zaghawa. In preparation for an influx of visitors expected during the Werenth Regional Football Tournament, a large number of phrasebooks have been printed by the Ministry of Culture, translating Maba, Daju, and Ngbandi to -French and -English. These books are available at a variety of bookshops and kiosks around Ouadai, or can be ordered directly by contacting the Ministry of Culture at:

Ouadaian Ministry of Culture
Department of Tourism
30. Abdul Al-Karim Boulevard
Abéché, Sultanate of Ouadai

Culture, Cuisine, and Entertainment:
Thanks to the ethnic and cultural diversity of the Sultanate of Ouadai, our nation has attractions to fit any visitor's palate. The major cities of Abéché, Longé, and Mongo boast a wide variety of cinemas, museums, and theaters, including Abéché's world-renown Afari Museum of Culture. A variety of nightlife venues also exist in urban areas, but visitors should be careful to not confuse these with Western-style clubs and discos, and conform to proper dress and abstain from alcohol while in these establishments.

Outside of the major cities, rural Ouadai offers a breathtaking variety of national parks and nature preserves, some complete with their own native village, giving tourists a taste of pre-colonial life in the region. Hunting and safari trips are also available to the most adventurous of visitors although hunting in national parks and wildlife preserves is strictly controlled. The natural beauty of Ouadai is a source of great pride within our nation.

Ouadaian cuisine is almost unique as its culture. Staple crops include cassava, millet, okra, peanuts, sorghum, and yams, and these are used as the base for most dishes throughout the nation. Staple foods common to all regions include enyasa bread (a bread of fermented cassava and millet or sorghum), aiyash (millet dumplings in sauce), and waika (cassava and okra stew with peanuts). However, these basic foods and ingredients are combined with a variety of proteins and spices, from hot peppers, cumin. sumac, and chickpeas in the north-east, to fennel, corriander, and cassava greens in the extreme south-west. Common protein sources include beans (particularly in the south and west), lamb, goat, and chicken. Fish protein is commonly used in the south-western regions around Longé. The national dish of Ouadai is Janbui Esh, a stew of yams, red beans, and millet flour, with onion, okra, fennel root, and lamb meat, and seasoned with cumin, garlic, hot peppers, and parsley.

Safety:
For the safety of all visitors, particularly those of Western/European descent, caution is advised when traveling within the Sultanate of Ouadai. Female visitors are advised to keep their hair covered with a hijab at all times, as is required by national law, and should travel with a male escort, particularly at night. All visitors, regardless of ethnicity or gender are advised to travel in groups, and to avoid traveling to the Furs Province, as well as certain areas of Arkoum, Dar Sila, and Kenjeje Provinces, as these areas are not under full government control, and kidnappings in these regions are fairly common. All Western visitors to Ouadai are advised to give friends and family an itinerary of their planned visits, and to communicate regularly with both the local police, as well as friends and family, regarding any changes to their planned visit.

Sporting Venues:
Events for the Werenth Regional Football Tournament will be held in two locations: the Abéché National Stadium, and Gbandi Stadium.

Abéché National Stadium is located on the outskirts of Abéché, the nation's capital and largest city. The stadium is easily accessible to foreign visitors, located just 10 km from the airport and 7 km from the central train station. The stadium can house 30,650 people, and has a retractable screen which covers much of the stadium's ceiling, to protect players and fans from the occasional dust storm which afflicts this region. The stadium is home to two of the nation's four largest domestic football clubs, FC Abéché and Kolak-Abéché FC, and has been home to the 2009, 2011, and 2012 Ouadaian National League championship matches.

Image
Abéché National Stadium, during its rennovation 9.15.2015

Gbandi Stadium is located in Ouadai's second largest city, Longé. The stadium is centrally located, just 4 km from the bus/train station, and 2.5 km from Longé's beautiful waterfront. The stadium can fit 24,800 people, including 300 in special box seating. While the stadium is open-air and uncovered, Longé's more moderate climate should allow play to continue unimpeded despite the lack of cover. The stadium is home to Ouadai's third-largest domestic football club, Gbandi FC, for which it takes its name. It has hosted the 2003, 2013, 2014, and 2015 Ouadaian National League championship matches.

Þor Ibaðuß-mós-Þrúkðuß Praßiba
National Football Team

The Slippery Eels
'Praß Boltur!'

Introduction
This template was blatantly copied from Stjernland. Thanks for saving me time and effort! You're the real MVP and all that.

What can't you say about the Slippery Eels? The Pracib national football team has seen it's fair share highs and lows, although few nations in Werenth and beyond have had the honour of defeating them one-on-one in the field. Who can forget the 1992 Ingolar Incident, when Auggie Þómassón and his teammates trashed their hotel before escaping police custody in a drunken stupor? These isolated incidents are often remembered and laughed about. Or The Slip And Slide, Praciba's famous 2004 match against [name to be filled in] that ended in a 5-1 victory for Praciba after a brief but heavy rainstorm led to Pighar 'Piggy' Vehan slipping and knocking out [name to be filled in]'s star player in the collision?

The Slippery Eels are now back with a vengeance, looking to conquer Werenth's first regional football tournament. Þór Küppna, or The Cup, as Pracib press has lovingly called the tournament, is seen as the national team's first opportunity to show off since Lilår 'Lovebutt' Gulla became the manager. Lovebutt Gulla became the national team's youngest manager, at 31, in 2015, after a long career as striker for BUP, Brikð Unðaß mós Palori. While he lacks a long history of practical experience as a manager and/or coach, his relatively fresh field experience and the high technical aptitude and capabilities of the Pracib national team are hoped to counter the negatives that might come from such a fresh and green manager. His two Assistant Managers, Vannar 'the Viking of Bentrus' Pingolar and Þór Bamphuß, are sure to sharpen the ears of any sports enthusiasts.

Vannar 'the Viking of Bentrus' Pingolar led MSC'66's legendary 1988 squad to victory in the Küppna mós Þrúkðuß and has become a familiar face for fans of the Pracib national football team and Meloðiußinam Vikings, where he is an assistant coach. While his rampant alcoholism and flagrantly offensive drug abuse was a problem on previous occasions, Vannar has seen a recent and rapid recovery and was deemed medically able to join the team in their travels. Þór Bamphuß, or The Deer, is a household name in Praciba and beyond. Magnús Magnússón remains the best scoring goalkeeper, having scored twenty goals in two-hundred and thirty matches, of FC Civiti Boltur and his deer-like kicks and defence remains legendary to this day.

For psychic and psychological support, the team is serviced by Tästa Þóstellär. Yes, you heard that right! That Tästa Þóstellär. He Who Touches has been exclusively hired by the Slippery Eels for the duration of the tournament to allow them the best and optimal state of mind. When someone with such a skill in energy imbalance removal and/or improvement, aromatic therapy, card readings, palm readings and many other such treatments joins the team, you know it's going to be a fantastic team that will lead the Pracib boys to their victory!

Lovebutt Gulla has made some smart decisions in regards to players, with a defensive 4-4-2 formation having been selected to ensure victory over the, often more aggressive playing, nations in this tournament. The decision to select Prumnar, or the Prune as the Pracib-impaired fans know him as, will be seen as an odd one by international observers due to his advanced age and, deemed somewhat off-peak, performance. The by-far oldest member of the starters, beating his fellow centre-back Goþar Phillarmón by seven years, has seen a strong year at FC Petsi and has been named one of the primary reasons that the club has fought itself from a historically low position to one of the front-runners of their league. While rumours of a nearing retirement are making themselves heard, Lovebutt Gulla has ensured his full effort for the upcoming tournament.

Magion mós Gloriatra is a wildcard behind the goal, having performed hit-and-miss at his team MSC'66. The same MSC'66 that delivers fellow starter, right-back Lurgan 'Smelly Finger' Bilgassón. Smelly Finger, as he is lovingly called by the supporters, has had a bad season but is determined to make up for it. While the nickname is often deemed strange, Lurgan remains adamant that coating his fingers in extremely strong and foul smelling perfume is a good luck charm. Observers think that the only thing working for him by doing that is the repugnant smell that might daze his opponent for a slight second.

A defensive formation does not mean that Praciba attack is lacking, however, with Lulla-Þór Gulla and Magní 'Slitherpants' Magnússón being the foremost attackers. Lulla-Þór Gulla, the younger brother of manager Lilår 'Lovebutt' Gulla, is a lacklustre, albeit talented, striker and while he is not expected to be the top player of the tournament or even the team, he will be able to take the chances that he gets. Magní 'Slitherpants' Magnússón is a more experienced striker and makes up for his often-underwhelming tackling abilities with enthusiasm, an accurate kick and a speed that few can match.

RP Permissions

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Yes, within reason
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes, within reason
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes
Hand out red cards to my players: No
Godmod other events: No

What I mean with 'within reason' is that I don't mind anything, if properly RP'd. A meteor isn't going to fall down and only strike my goalie's right hand, for example. Although that would make for an interesting read.

The Ouadaian National Football Team
أسود الصحراء

The Lions of the Desert
Image

The Ouadaian National Football Team was founded in 1967, shortly after Ouadai gained independence from France. The sport of football had been introduced by French colonialists, and one of the marks they left on the region was an abiding love for the game. Since at least the 1950s, football has been the most popular sport in Ouadai, although the nation never produced a noteworthy player during the colonial years.

It was only after independence that the first formal football leagues and associations began to form. The first organized clubs began to form. In 1967, the Ouadaian Ministry of Culture financed the creation of Ouadai's first domestic football league, the National League (commonly called League 1) was founded. Shortly after this, and in anticipation of the 1970 World Cup, the Ministry of Culture agreed to finance a National Football Team made up of members from the newly-created National League. The team had no luck at qualifying for the 1970 or 1974 World Cups, and was de-funded after that, being relegated to a mere sideshow in international football (although domestic football leagues continued to thrive).

It was only in 1998, when football enthusiast and member of the Ouadaian Royal Family, Ali ibin Umar Al-Karim, purchased the ailing Kolak-Abéché FC, that the Ouadaian National Football Team was revived. For the last 20+ years, the team has been the pet project of Ali ibin Umar Al-Karim, and has participated in several dozen international friendlies, but relatively few ranked matches. The team did try, again unsuccessfully, to qualify for the 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups. The opportunity to host the Werenth Regional Football Tournament is seen by many as a way for Ali ibin Umar Al-Karim to garner international attention and to draw foreign players towards Ouadai's domestic football teams.

In preparation for the upcoming tournament, Ali ibin Umar Al-Karim hired a French citizen, Julien Marechal, as Head Coach in an attempt to infuse more outside expertise into the team. Julien Marechal was a former assistant coach of AS Lyon-Duchère from 2011-2016. He has been given broad leeway to choose his own team members from among Ouadai's domestic teams, and to develop the team as he sees fit.

Football, also known as soccer (both are interchangable in Elejamie, although soccer is more commonly used among the younger generation), is the second most popular sport in Elejamie, just behind ice hockey but ahead of rugby [union]. With three professional leagues (the imaginatively titled League One, League Two and League Three), weekly attendances of over 60,000 (for League One alone) and over 40,000 registered soccer players, there's no doubt that the sport's left a lasting appeal across the nation. And, if you're wondering: American football (or gridiron as it's called, with Canadian football being called "mapleiron") isn't really popular over in Elejamie, being considered a niche sport at best; apart from a short lived Elejamian Gridiron League that lasted two years in the mid-90s (with most of the positions taken up by ex-rugby players) and a couple of internationals being held at the Lanerit Stadium in 2012, it's very rarely played over here at a professional level.

Although normally they wouldn't be allowed to take part in the competition, due to them being in the East Pacific as opposed to Werenth, the Elejamian side was invited to take part in the first Werenth Regional Football Tournament, co-hosted by Ouadai and Molibar. However, Elejamian FA president Nathaniel Schneider also announced that, no matter how well Elejamie does in the tournament, they wouldn't return for the second one. Even if they do win the inaugural tournament, they won't return to defend their title, although they'll come back for pre-tourney friendlies and to hand the trophy over to the new winners (again, if they win it). Despite this, however, they're confident that they'll do their best and, best case scenario, make it to the knock-out round. The tournament will also be the first time that Elejamie and Praciba have played against each other since the "Christmas Eve Miracle"; on 24th December, 1999, the Soccerphants went from 4-1 down at half-time to beat the Slippery Eels 6-5, with Kevin Morello scoring the winning goal in injury time.

Elejamie primarily play in a 4-3-1-2 position; four defenders, three midfielders, one attacking midfielder and two centre forwards. However, on occasions, they play in a standard 4-4-2 position, with the only difference being Esteban Jones being relegated to the subs bench and either Fré or Diego Escobar joining Guillermo Cruz Gracián in centre midfield. Rarely, they go with a 5-3-2 (or 1-4-3-2) formation, with Jones being on the bench and Paul Rushton either joining captain Paul Birchford and Eric Falcón as a centre-back or going it alone as a sweeper.

Laneriti Stadium, Coventry, AVEN
Image

Home to the national football team and the national rugby union team, Laneriti Stadium was built in 1955 after the Elejamian FA decided on a permanent ground for the national football team. After narrowing down 400 options down to three, they eventually decided to name it after Arik Lanerit (aka Laneriti, d. 1915), a famous Iyilim politician who helped shape this country just as it was getting started. Originally designed to fit 60,000 people, it was expanded in the mid-90s to accomodate 82,500, which has remained the official capacity ever since. It has hosted every single Cup of Elejamie final since 2000 (as well as 23 previous cup finals before that) and all but one ERC (Elejamian Rugby Championship) Grand Final since the play-offs were introduced in time for the start of the 1990-91 ERC season; due to scheduling conflictments, the 2011 Grand Final between the Auckhampton Birch Trees and the Murgon Bullfrogs has to be played at the Edgebaston Dome, with the Bullfrogs winning 20-15 in extra time thanks to a golden try by John Watkins (although Karl Angelini missed the conversion).

The stadium in the background is the Starmath Den, home ground of the Starmath Rovers football team in League Two and Coventry Jesters rugby union team, which play in the Elejamian Rugby Division One. It's also used as the training ground for the national football team, with the national rugby team having its own training ground outside of Coventry. It can also hold up to 15,000 people.

RP injuries to my players: Yes (one per game, and they can't miss more than two games. Nothing career-ending.)
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes (see above)
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes (one per game, and the longest they can be suspended for is two games)
Godmod other events: Yes, but I recommend TGing me first to see what you've got planned

  • As always, if any of my players interest you, feel free to drop me a TG asking which ones you like, how much you're willing to pay for them, and all that.
  • Four players and one staff member will be celebrating their birthdays during the tournament. Once we have a schedule up, I'll go into a bit more detail here, since I'll have dates to work with.

Ouadai Head Coach Gives Interview

By Louis Gidrol

The shadows deepen across Abéché National Stadium as the sun sinks onto the horizon, signaling the end of the Ouadaian National Footabll Team's final day of training before the start of the Werenth Regional Football Tournament. For the many promoters, organizers, and local businesses catering to the influx of tourists brought on by the games, the event may already seem a great success. But to the members of our national team, the eyes of the nation lay heavy upon them, and sucess is far from asured. This evening, I sat down to talk with Ouadaian team coach Julien Marechal, to learn his opinion on the team's development and its prospects in the upcoming tourament.

L. Gidrol: "Thank you for metting with me. I understand you and your team have been training hard for this tourament."

J. Marechal: "We have all been working towards this moment. It's always a challange bringing together players from different backgrounds to come together and form one unified team. I can say that I'm pleased with the team's progress, and that our players have worked hard to get to this level of competiveness. I don't think that any team in this tourament should see us as an easy mark. We have been preparing for this day for a long time, and noone on our team should be taken lightly."

L. Gidrol: "Is it true that you were allowed to choose your own players, without oversight from [Manager] Ali ibin Umar Al-Karim?"

J. Marechal: "[Laughs]... I wouldn't say without oversight. Ali ibin Umar and I have discussed possible members of this team since the first day he approached me as team coach. We have a similar philosophy and there wasn't much disagreement between our choices. With a team like Ouadai, we both wanted to take in the best possible talent, while still keeping together proven parings like Touadéra-Medogo (Gbandi FC) and Ngarmbatina-Wani Igga (FC Abéché)."

L. Gidrol: "And what do you think of the team you were able to create?"

J. Marechal: "I think they are an amaizing bunch of players. When I first came to Ouadai, I was surprised at the level of talent in some of your domestic clubs. That's really what sold me on taking the coaching position in the first place. I know that individually, each player has the skill to match up against any other international player. My job was just to get them together and teach them to work as a team. I guess we'll see how I did come tomorrow..."

L. Gidrol: "Do you think that our side is ready to face more experienced international teams like Stjernland, then?"

J. Marechal: "Stjernland will obviously be our biggest threat in the group stage. They have the experience in previous world Cup Quaifiers, and have a strong starting lineup from a number of international clubs. But the team itself is no better organized or led than our side. The truth will tell in the dedication of our players and in who can control posession. And that is exactly what we have trained for."

L. Gidrol: "What about the other teams in Ouadai's group?"

J. Marechal: "Molibar and Al Imaru could be problems in the group stage, but neither side has the raw skill of Stjernland's team, We will have to be careful to avoid a careless loss, but otherwise neither side should prove much opposition to our advancing to the knockout stage."

L. Gidrol: "What are the chances that these other teams win in the group stage?"

J. Marechal: "I hate to make these kind of predictions. In international football, anyone could pull out an upset and win. But I think our chances of advancing are quite good."

Lovebutt Gulla: 1-1, not one won but still better than none

Image

Pracib Royal TV caught up with everyone's favourite Pracib National Football Team manager, the lovely looking and extremely talented Lullå 'Lovebutt' Gulla. With this lovely looking and extremely talented person, we discussed the 1-1 result against Amazonesta, the next match, his upcoming calendar, the fact that his younger brother is in the squad and how the strict rules in Ouadai are affecting the squad.

PRTV: Lullå...

LLG: Please, call me Lovebutt. Everyone does anyway.

PRTV: Lovebutt, the match against Amazonesta saw it end up in a 1-1 draw with Slitherpants Magnússón squarely beating the Amazonesta defences and players and hitting it in the goal. Can you tell us the feeling that goes through you at such a moment?

LLG: Well, it's one of ecstasy. Did you know that you can't get any ecstasy here? I asked Novarium about it but it's impossible due to the people here earning almost nothing compared to Praciba, they don't try to smuggle it to here. Anyway, ecstasy, yes. When you see your men moving like a whole, when you see that the opponent cannot match them, that's natural ecstasy right there. Like, I was discussing it with my team... Well, not so much with Vannar ['the Viking of Bentrus' Pingolar] as the lack of alcohol here has hit him a bit more than expected, but I was discussing it with the rest and we were putting Amazonesta in the higher regions in regards to opponent abilities and it's good to see that we're able to match them and at times, certainly out do them. Our defences stood high against their, in my opinion far too aggressive, stance and we even ensured that we made a goal. Now, it might have been 1-1, not one won but it's still better than none in my opinion.

PRTV: It certainly is, Lovebutt. How do you look towards the next match against Elejamie?

LLG: Well, they're one of the other opponents that we put high on our list. They're a wildcard and those are always the most dangerous ones, you don't know what to expect. Could we win massively? Sure. But if we're not careful, we could lose tremendously too. The one thing we don't need to fear is Yuzhnyy and their team however, so long as they manage to stay off of the 'roids. You know, winny, halo, primo, all that stuff. I'd say, check their balls and blood but you know how it is, if those authoritarian countries want to do something, they'll find a way. But yeah, if they try to play fair, we'll beat them. We're better trained, funded, looking and we don't come from a nation that picks it's players based on blood ties with the ruling despot. We're the total package, baby.

PRTV: You also have an upcoming calendar in the works, what can you tell us about that?

LLG: Good that you ask! Yes, the Lovebutt Leisure calendar will be out soon, in preparation for 2017 and of course, you can order it online and just say which month you want it to start. You know, in case you want the Lovebutt train to pound on you right away and you can't wait for 2017, you could order it with October 2016 as the first month or whatever you want. It'll feature me in twelve suggestive positions wearing barely anything and just being my good-looking charming self.

PRTV: And is anything... photogenically enhanced?

LLG: Hahahaha. No, everything you see is purely me. Got to have something to love the butt with, ain't it? Anyway, twenty percent of the profits go to the Pracib Children's Fund so you can feel good while looking at me. It's a really good thing that they accepted my offer to support them and the Pracib Children's Fund is really a charity that works for me and suits me. They were the ones that paid for my football contribution when I started out as a child, when my parents were temporarily unemployed due to their shop burning down. They made this happen and so, I'm very glad that I can do something back for them, repay them for what they did.

PRTV: Your younger brother, Lulla-Þor Gulla, is one of the two strikers in the start-up. Some would call him a lacklustre striker and he didn't score in this match...

LLG: Let me stop you right there. I get that a lot of people want to puke their opinions on my brother into the open world, he hasn't proven himself solidly and I get why people want to know why I placed him in the starter line-up instead of say, Geeno [mós Civitanam]. Sure, Geeno and Pöllar [Dedanar] are more experienced but have you seen them in action lately? They're not reaching their peak in the Ouadaian climate and that's why I'm keeping them back, letting them get used to the climate first. Magní [Slitherpants Magnússón] and Lulla-Þor have been much better at preparing themselves and adjusting themselves to the local situation and that's why they are there. And if you ask me, they make a fine duo. Magní provides the accuracy and Lulla-Þor provides the raw power that we need. It's the same with the discussion about Prumnar, why did I put him in? Because Prumnar, no matter his age, provides a solid defence and has adjusted himself to the situation as if it was natural. Now, sure, I could put in Toothy [Þór 'Toothy' Gigþan] but why take the risk that it might backfire? I give all players an equal chance but if I see that a player isn't pulling the weight he should be, hell yeah that I'll put in someone else who does pull his weight. Even if the other person could be, might be a better player. You can't build a team on the could be's, the might be's. You have to build a team on the facts, the things you know.

PRTV: You mentioned the lack of ecstasy in Ouadai and Vannar's alcohol lack. How are the strict rules in Ouadai affecting the squad?

LLG: Well, most of them are doing well. [Helgí] Uttar rubs their tension out and Tästa [Þóstellär] helps them get their minds blank before the match and it's really showing it's effects, you see the players improving thanks to it. As we all know, I love to have a party and yeah, sure it sucks to be in a nation where a woman in a bikini or a man in a slutty bunny outfit might even be seen as offensive. They gave us a booklet and it said that there was nightlife. Well, I don't know about you but I don't call a bunch of hairy men drinking tea together nightlife! I call that a place in dire need of a wax party. The museums are reasonable though, so there's that. The food is reasonable, they're giving us the best of the best as we're foreigners so that's always nice but I'm still glad that the Pracib Friendship Association of Ouadai has helped us to find a place that sells Pracib delicacies such as smoked sausage and smoked eel. It's all flown into the country and that's why I'm glad that Ouadai is currently stable, as I've heard that there were times when they occasionally had to wait a month before another aeroplane with the delicious goodies arrived. Vannar did went looking for the rare few places where they sell alcohol in Ouadai but he had forgotten his wallet and his bodyguard didn't have enough on him so he had to return back to the compound that we're staying at. I like him like this though, Vannar is far quieter when he hasn't had his drinks. The nightly screams have stopped too, so I can't complain.

PRTV: Thanks for the interview, Lovebutt! And Praß to the team!

LLG: Good to have had a chat with you! Let's hope we'll speak again when we've won the tournament!

Lovebutt Gulla: Victory is within reach!

Image

With the previous interview with the lovely looking and extremely talented Lullå 'Lovebutt' Gulla working out very well, with Pracib Royal TV seeing it become a wide-spread international reading piece, the decision has been made to release another in-depth interview with everyone's favourite Pracib National Football Team manager. With the fervently friendly ex-striker of Brikð Unðaß mós Palori, we discussed Praciba's string of victories, the next match, the fact that his younger brother is playing for the enemy and the large amount of clubs that the Pracib players are coming from, including Gregór 'Boltur mós Ouadai' Aradinam.

PRTV: Lovebutt, good to have you with us again.

LLG: Thanks, thanks. Good to be here.

PRTV: Let's talk results. The previous interview, we had just ended up in a 1-1 draw with Amazonesta. We're now two matches further, both wins with Lulla-Þor [Gulla, younger brother of] scoring the 1-0 that brought us victory over Elejamie and assisting with the two goals against Yuzhnyy. How do you feel, especially now that Praciba is leading in it's group?

LLG: It's a very good feeling, almost mellow in it's pleasure. We can afford a loss and still stay within the top section of the group and that's just good, you know. It's a situation that hasn't been seen in the tournament yet except with our team, with Praciba. It just shows me that we are doing something right, we're working together as a team towards a greater goal and it's just great to see the fruit of that teamwork tree come to fruition. Now, I'm not saying 'let's slow down, we can take a loss' because we're going to be fighting for every ball, that's a given, that's natural to me. But yes, it just feels good. It feels good to be in this position. The team are feeling the positive vibes as well, it's just a very good situation to be in when preparing for the next match, the next day. Victory, atleast within our group, is within reach and that's something that we should aim for, that's something that comes natural to me, the urge to win. Pracib football has come a long way in the previous decades and it's starting to show, people are taking notice and going 'hmm, those slippery eels are better than expected' and that's just good, it's good to see that I'm able to become a part of that, to help nourish that. Yes.

PRTV: The next match is going to be against Amazonesta, the only team that has managed at this point to stave off a Pracib victory. What are your plans?

LLG: Well, plans are static. Football is nature, football is organic. So, what am I planning? Nothing concrete. We work together to make a strategy, we look at the players for that, we look at Tästa [Þóstellär, Psychic Aid/Psychological Coach/Special Support of the team], it's an organic whole. We know that they will be aggressive so yeah, sure, we're preparing on that. But once they get on that field, I'm sure we'll improve on the previous result. The positive vibes that are surrounding the team will certainly help, morale is really high. And yes, that brings the possible pitfall of being overly confident but that's the good thing of being here, being at the first tournament. Nothing is expected of us yet. So if we lose, we'll still be seen as a contender that was able to hit hard when it was needed. If we win? Well, that's just a cherry on the pie. A very, very delicious pie, you know. It's doable and I'm sure we'll get there, I know it won't be because of lacking players, lacking tactics or lacking support if we don't, because we have those three in abundance. The amount of love coming from Pracib fans and international fans that just adore the Pracib team has been amazing, it's wonderful and that will certainly help.

PRTV: Once you get back to Praciba, everyone will be getting back to their teams. How do you feel about your brother playing for FC Civiti Boltur? You were a homegrown BUP man and everyone knows about the rivalry that exists between FC Civiti Boltur and BUP.

LLG: Well, obviously I'd like him to continue the Gulla name at BUP [Brikð Unðaß mós Palori, currently third in it's league] but if he chooses to stay at FC Civiti Boltur [currently second in the same league], that's his own choice. I don't feel that we should put, pull, whatever you want to name it, rivalries to include the players and where they go. Supporters often find it too easy to point at someone and go 'traitor' because they changed teams. Let's face it: If you get an amazing chance to work for a company that really wants you, that allows you to study next to your career, you'd do it too. It's the same with Lulla-Þor. Perhaps he'll choose to go back to BUP after his study and contract end, who knows? Either way, I'll always back him up and be there for him, whether that means wearing the colours of BUP, FC Civiti Boltur or any other club. So long as it isn't for FC Triple Slots Meloðiußinam [casino team sponsored, owned and operated by the Triple Slots Casino chain, currently facing relegation in the same league as BUP/FC Civiti Boltur] as their team colours clash with my hair and clothing.

PRTV: Some people have noticed the large amount of teams that you have drawn players from. Notable clubs are for example Snussá FU, a small semi-professional club from which you drafted the Vamm twins, and Gravius FU, the professional football team named after the leader of the Discorib religious community. What do you say to these critiques?

LLG: Just because a club is small or otherwise impaired, doesn't mean that it has small or impaired players. The Vamm twins are a very good back-up for the more experienced players, they have great synergy and having them join us here is a very good way to get their experience up for matches, for when it counts. They're learning, adapting and really showing that they can become great players if we let them, they are really grateful and the fact that they are smoking hot just helps. Grykkar Gunnarssón, the player from Gravius FU, has done a tremendous job defending his team against goals and that has to be rewarded. We have to show our players that, if they perform and if they play well, show that they are improving and working towards being their best, that they have a chance to get in the team. No matter what. Look at Gregór 'Boltur mós Ouadai' Aradinam, who is currently playing for a club right here in Ouadai. Are the teams smaller and less equipped than ours? Of course they are but he has performed well, shown that he has potential, that he is willing to work, that he can work and that he fits within the team as I have put it down. I could have easily replaced him with other, some would argue better, players such as Gíll Pinþar or Numnor Pállsson but they didn't show the dedication that he did and that's why he's in. Dedication is half of the pudding, so to say.

PRTV: Thanks for this short interview, Lovebutt. Perhaps we shall see each other after the victory against Amazonesta?

LLG: You bet!

Terrorist Threat Delays Wrenth Football Tournament

By Louis Gidrol

Authorities reported last night that they had received a "credible threat" of a bomb at an unspecified stadium in Ouadai Monday night. Reportedly, the threat was phoned in to local journalists around 21.00 local time, warning of a bomb attack on a major stadium in Ouadai sometime today. The threat was attributed to the Union pour l'Indépendance de l'Furs et Amdang (UIFA), a terrorist organization fighting for the independence for Furs Province from the legitimate Ouadaian government. According to a government spokesman for the Ouadaian Interior Ministry, transcripts of the call show that the unknown caller used the name "Khali Ibrahim," a common code name used by the group to claim responsibility for terrorist activities.

The bomb threat was relayed to authorities in the Interior Ministry and local police within an hour of being received. As a result of the threat, the Ouadaian government has decided to postpone upcoming matches in the Werenth Regional Football Tournament, until both stadiums can be thoroughly inspected and confirmed safe. Security has also been increased across the country, particularly in Djarous, Kenjeje, and Wadai Provinces, with reserve formations of the Ouadaian National Army being called up to guard key areas in Abéché and Longé. Tournament organizers have since announced that play will resume on Thursday, amidst assurances that the combined forces of the Ouadaian Federal Police and Ouadaian National Army will be able to maintain the safety of these events.

The UIFA is Ouadai's oldest, and most violent terrorist organization. This group was the key instigator behind the 2nd and 3rd Furs Revolts against government control, the latter of which is still ongoing. The UIFA has a history of using bomb attacks to promote their political message, including the notorious Iriba Market Bombing, in which a suicide car-bomb killed 65 (including two terrorists) and injured a further 91. This is the first reported threat against a major sporting venue in Ouadai.
