Scorination & RP Bonus
Xkoranate 0.3.3. Ranks will be used. RP bonus will be generous and cumulative; it will be graded under a holistic scale. Ceni will receive a host bonus not to exceed 1 Match Day's bonus. New Gelderland (obviously) will not receive any additional bonuses besides RP should it be in the final fields. Outside scorinators will be used should one of my nations reach the knockout stages.

Rankings
Ranks will be changed with the following formula: a logarithm (root two) of (100/7) times the base rank.

That would produce a curve so that the lowest ranked nation has a skill of 0, and the highest at around 8.85. This will reduce the slope and gradient of the curve so it's not so huge at the top. In addition, a cumulative and generous RP bonus will encourage RPing and allow for a more fair distribution of results. This is similar to what we did for tennis: the end result was a bit more randomness, but the top player was no longer winning every single tournament undefeated.

About Ceni
Ceni is a small island country of around 5500 km2 located in the eastern parts of the Rushmori region of Terranea. Although it has no land borders, the nearest countries are Electrum, from which it is separated in the west by a narrow strait, and the Isles of Avon, a small republic located to the east in the same island chain. With a population of just over 13 million, this makes Ceni one of the densest countries in Rushmore, at around 2360 people per sq km. Ceni is also one of the most urbanized countries in Rushmore, with the three major cities, Cenial, the capital, City Centre, and New Oxford, forming one large urban agglomeration, with the city petering out around the edges of the metropolis. Climate-wise, Ceni has a temperate oceanic climate, with the influence of the ocean helping to moderate both the summers and the winters - temperatures are almost never extreme either way, cold or hot.

Historically, Ceni was first settled by a group of people, ancestors of the Fererldan, who spoke a language, Ancient Cenian, that is almost extinct except for a few speakers (but it survives in many Cenian names, both surnames and given names), which is related to modern day Avaerilonian (the prevailing theory suggests that these people migrated from an area in New Gelderland, across a land bridge to Ceni, and then across to Avaerilon, where they settled later in time). The name Ceni itself comes from a corruption of an Ancient Cenian word for 'White Cliffs', which described the cliffs near the present day Dover. These people stayed in the area around Cenial for a while until a group of settlers from Eura arrived and settled in the southern half of Ceni, displacing some of these populations. A Spanish population from Valladares arrived and set up a colony in the north of Ceni, hoping to set up a port for the growing nation, but when the city of Junin was settled, these settlers were disappointed, nonetheless deciding to stay and send seafood to the Valladar communities as well as lobbying the government to set up a port in the north. These communities formed the backbone of a thriving Hispanic population in Ceni.

In the face of a rising Euran threat, these various colonies - the Fereldic population, the Spanish in the North, and Euran/Cenian mix in the South - decided to unify their solitary island in order to coordinate their defenses and reduce infighting. As the Euran threat died down, the Cenian government retooled its economy to provide services and goods to the growing Euran industrial economy while still remaining a bit on edge. As the economy bloomed, a group of Avaerilonian refugees settled in Ceni after escaping one of that country's long wars, establishing a Cenian tradition. These refugees contributed to Ceni's rising high-tech and service economy as the country moved into the 21st century.

Ceni's government is a Presidential system with a two chambered parliament, a 50 seat Senate and a 225 seat Council of Representatives. More locally, Ceni is divided into 14 districts, which serve to administer most of the government's services to the people and giving them local control. The Cenian people love their elections, with more than 80% turnout most times. Economically, Ceni has a large financial sector along with large pharmaceutical, high-tech, education, and real estate sectors. Ceni has a large GDP due to its proximity to Eura and the Euran economy and also a large GDP per capita, one of the largest in the region. Cenians enjoy a high standard of living as well as a large social welfare net and free education, courtesy of a Scandinavian-style liberal government.

Map of Ceni

Transportation and Other Practical Concerns
Being a relatively small island nation, it is very easy to get around in Ceni. Most major hotels are close to and within walking distance of subway stations. In turn, the seven stadiums are very close to subway stations as well. City Centre and Cenial, where three of the four venues are located, are both located around Lake Cenial. Ferries transport passengers across the lake, and the same subway system connects City Centre and Cenial. As for the fourth venue, located in Santiago de Ceni, light rail connects the city to City Centre and Cenial, while a high-speed rail system dramatically decreases the transport time to other areas of the country. The high-speed rail system also connects Cenial with New Oxford and Whitehaven. In the cities themselves, most are very walkable. There aren't many cars in Ceni, and, with the subway system and the closeness of many major attractions, most of Ceni is very walkable, and pedestrians can get almost anywhere.

To get to Ceni, there are several options. Air Terranea, Ceni's major carrier, is based out of Cenial, and has links to many of the sporting world's premier nations, making it very easy to fly to Ceni. Cenial International Airport, located north of Lake Cenial, is the main gateway to Ceni, serving general aviation and most commercial flights. New Oxford also hosts a low-cost airport, but mostly the carriers operating out of New Oxford stick to Rushmori routes. There are also some general aviation-only and small regional airports located at Santiago de Ceni and Southpoint, although they do not have many international connections. Cenial International and New Oxford International have been instructed to give landing rights to all private planes carrying teams.

Cenial
Cenial is Ceni’s capital city; as such, the Cenian executive, legislative, and judicial branches are all located in Cenial. The President has his home and offices here; office buildings for executive departments are also located in Cenial. The capitol building of Ceni, the meeting place for the Cenian Assembly, was recently redesigned and sits at the head of a park stretching to the President’s home. Judicially, the highest court in Ceni, the Supreme Court, meets here, as well as one of Ceni’s eight appellate courts. In elections, Cenial’s citizens are very active, with more than 85% turnout in national elections and 75% turnout in local elections.

Cenial attracts people from all over the region and the world with its world-class universities—the University of Ceni and the University of Cenial its two most prominent. The University of Ceni is renowned for its instruction in architecture, business, the humanities and history, politics, and law, while the University of Cenial focuses its academic investments in the science section. In fact, the University of Cenial is a leading research university in the fields of biotechnology and engineering.

A large part of Cenial consists of parks and greenery. One of the largest parks in the nation, Lake Cenial Park, stretches along the coast of Lake Cenial and provides opportunities for hiking, biking, canoeing and kayaking, Frisbee golf, and just plain old fun with friends and family. In the spring, when the cherry blossoms are in bloom, Lake Cenial Park is a very pretty sight, and its beautiful fountains are available year-round for all to enjoy. Another major park in Cenial is the Capitol Mall, a park stretching from the Capitol to the President’s House, with its memorial reflecting pool. Other green attractions in Cenial include the Japanese garden, in that section of the city, with its beautiful ponds, pagoda, and rock garden section for peaceful meditation, and the National Botanical Garden, with specimens from all over the world and exhibits of most major climates in the region. Not only is Cenial renowned for its green spaces, it is also renowned for its green attitude. Cenial is among the world’s leading cities in the proliferation of green technology, with a large number of buildings with energy saving measures. Many homes have solar panels, and the government has invested money into increasing the amount of renewable energy in the city; around 35% of the city’s electricity comes from renewable sources.

Cenial has a tolerant attitude and welcomes people from all over the world. As a result, Cenial has an incredibly diverse population. People from all over the world—from Asia, Africa, the Social Liberal Union, and all other regions of the world—have chosen to make Cenial their home. Because Cenial is very welcoming to all people, including refugees, Cenial supports a large population from Ciqi and Coconutstan, two countries ravaged by war. Because of its ethnic diversity, Cenial also has religious and language diversity. Hundreds of languages are spoken in different parts of Cenial, although English is mainly used in day-to-day communication. Religiously, no single religion makes up a majority of the population of Cenial. Atheism is the major religion in Cenial, with around 30% of people, although Christianity (almost equally split between Catholics and Protestants) (25%) and Islam (15%) both make up significant fractions of the population. Cenial has one of the world’s largest and most significant Chinatowns, while Little Saigon and Little Lyndainium are also significant ethnic enclaves. Ethnically, Cenians, Avaerilonians, Eurans, Electrumites, and Spanish make up a total of 75% of Cenial’s population, and there is a large diversity in the remaining 25%.

Cenial, as the cultural center of Ceni, is Ceni’s hub for performing arts. Cenial has the largest number of theatres, concert halls, and exhibition centers in all of Ceni. Cenial’s Royal Shakespearian Theatre Company is well renowned for its performances of Shakespeare’s plays, as well as other plays of Victorian English authors. Because of its diversity, Cenial has a large variety of ethnic restaurants of all kinds—from Westerheimian and Avaerilonian to Persian and Vietnamese, which are found mostly in ethnic sections of the city. Homemade Chinese noodles can be found in Chinatown, while Vietnamese culture is prevalent in Little Saigon. There are a number of excellent Avaerilonian restaurants in Little Lyndainium. Popular street foods in Cenial include Middle Eastern and Indian dishes. In the city centre, there are a large number of upscale restaurants catering to legislators, lobbyists, and richer tourists, while small cafes serving Cenian cuisine dot corner sides. Because of Ceni’s proximity to, and reliance on, the sea, Cenian cuisine places a large emphasis on fish and seafood. Popular Cenian dishes include Cenial Clam Chowder, widely regarded as one of the world’s best, various fish stews, and fish & chips. Other significant Cenian dishes contain crab, lobster, sea scallop, and cod. Alcoholic beverages are fairly common in Ceni, and there are a fair number of pubs, including some chain and local pubs. Cavalier Brewpubs and Machu Picchu Pubs, two famous chains, both originated out of Cenial. At night, a fair number of nightclubs serve alcoholic drinks and provide the citizen or tourist with the opportunity to party.

Cenial Pavillion
Image

The Cenial Pavillion normally hosts the Cenial Phoenix and Cenial Cosmopolitan in their home games in the newly inaugurated CeniHoops League. It features clean, modern lines with capacity for 23,500 spectators, making it the biggest basketball arena in Ceni. The building's designers were obviously anticipating some large turnout, for they maximized the arena's ability to deal with that many quickly and efficiently. It has a simple floor plan that allows fans to reach their seats, and concession stands, quickly and easily, and the modern exterior shows off the interior as well. This stadium will likely serve as the host of the final match in the IBC should Ceni win the bid, and likely be the host of the Amaethon conference championship, as that one is the most contested and most likely to be attended.

Hosting: Group 1, Championship & Third Place Game

City Centre
City Centre is Ceni's second city and home to 3.6 million people. The city does tend to vote extremely liberal in elections due to its economy, which is heavily dependent of manufacturing, therefore the workers have a huge political say in the operation of this city's politics. Unions, unlike in other countries, are very strong here in City Centre. Besides its historic manufacturing, City Centre is notable for its libraries and literature, hosting some of Ceni's most famous authors. City Centre also boasts a thriving gay community. However City Centre is less culturally refined than many other cities in Ceni, such as New Oxford and Cenial, and has more of a reputation as a factory town than anything else. Nonetheless, it does boast its fair share of tourists, who come to visit the playhouses and aforementioned libraries. Like Cenial, it is located along Lake Cenial, and the two cities merge to form one big megalopolis; the city of New Oxford also abuts it to the south, forming a good portion of Ceni's urban population.

City Centre Arena
Image

The City Centre Arena has a capacity of around 18,000 and is not dedicated only to basketball, having the capacity to convert to an indoor tennis stadium with two courts (suitable for exhibition matches or a World Tour Finals, for example) or a stadium for volleyball and ice hockey, as well as the usual concerts and conventions. It's the home of the City Centre Revolution, one of the better clubs in the new CeniHoops basketball league. The stadium is a bit older than the Cenial Pavillion because it was originally built as a concert hall and tennis stadium, but it still has a modern design and a large area for shopping and purchasing food in the back of the arena. Balor Conference championships will likely be held in this stadium.

Hosting: Group 2, Semifinals 1&2

New Oxford
While it does have a population of around one million, which sounds small by international standards, it is concentrated in a small area, making it a very dense city. New Oxford is very ethnically diverse, even more so than Cenial, with large Asian, Electrumite, and Euran populations. New Oxford is most notable for hosting the third of Ceni's major universities, the University of New Oxford, which boasts a high quality educational program. In addition to its University, with its excellent sporting facilities, New Oxford hosts a number of museums and other educational institutions, as well as science and technology based industries within its soaring, modern skyline. Besides these attractions, New Oxford has a very active nightlife, with a large number of bars and nightclubs serving the student population, and the city is a hub of cocktails and experimentation with alcohol. As such, there are quite a few drunken ramblers out at night, although many students do stay sober.

University of New Oxford Gymnasium
Image

The University of New Oxford gymnasium serves as the home stadium of the University of New Oxford for its basketball games. Hosting 10,500 people, it is the smallest of the three stadiums to host conference championships but also one of the newest, as the University recently renovated this arena in order to meet more requirements to host the NSCAA competition, helped a bit by the Cenian Basketball Federation (CBF). It has a modern, clear, glass facade, allowing the light to shine through, and has solar panels and recycled grey water to remain eco-friendly. When not used for basketball games in the main stadium, the Gymnasium also hosts several squash and racquetball courts, including two stadium squash courts, and nearby, the tennis grounds hosts New Oxford Masters. Overall, this campus is very beautiful, with lots of greenery and statues, and it should be an inviting place for the Ceridwyn Conference championships.

Note that in Ceni, this is ICly after the NSCAA...

Image
CENIAN NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM - IBC 20
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CENTER - BENJAMIN ESPINOZA - 20 years old - Huracán Norteño
Part of the University of Ceni-Santiago team that did exceedingly well in the NSCAA, Espinoza was one of the best Cenian centers and one of the better ones at all Cenian schools overall. He has an excellent three-point shot and rebound, and his height allows him to be a strong and competent defender as well; this duality has led the University to an excellent position in the NSCAA.

POWER FORWARD - JAVIER AIZA - 18 years old - Huracán Norteño
Aiza takes quite a lot of initiative on the court and has a good passing and rebounding game. He often serves as a link between the offense and the defense on his team but says he has a better defensive game, working well to harry the opposition team and getting them to make mistakes. Aiza is in the mid-height wing for a basketball player, only around six foot four, but still manages to get into his rebounding role with quite a bit of creativity to make up for his lack of height. He was the guiding force for both his CeniHoops team, Huracán Norteño, and for the University of Ceni-Santiago, which was the surprise fourth seed in the entire NSCAA.

SMALL FORWARD - WES JARIK - 26 years old - New Oxford Mercury
Wes Jarik is a very accurate foul-shooter and three-point shooter that tries to get fouls called on him pretty easily; he is one of the smaller players in the game, and is versatile on the defense, using that small height to his advantage to guard players of different heights and abilities. He serves as a pivot between a lot of the different parts of the Cenian basketball game; passing, shooting, rebounding, and blocking are all part of his responsibilities for the team. He played extremely well for the New Oxford Mercury, a team which achieved second place, in the new CeniHoops basketball league.

SHOOTING GUARD - ACE STARGAZER - 25 years old - Whitehaven Storm
Ace Stargazer is a bit of an unusual name for an unusual man. He's one of the tallest players on the Cenian team, and can play with the best of the best in the defense and the offense. He is a good ball handler and passes well; additionally, he has a good guarding motion due to his height. He also switches with Wes Jarik as small forward and is instrumental in creating lots of plays with his passing ability. Most importantly, Stargazer is responsible for scoring, and that he does with a vengeance, with an extremely accurate jump shot and dunk, both due to his height.

POINT GUARD - NEIL HALCYON - 23 years old - Cenial Phoenix
Neil Halcyon is perhaps the savior of the Cenian team in this tournament. He is a good all-around player, but as the point guard, he specializes in creating plays and assists for his teammates. Known as a leader on the court, Halcyon is an excellent reader of other players and has a strategy and sticks to it. However, with this in mind, he has the capacity to surprise a defense by either driving in for a basket or hitting a three-pointer; he is extremely versatile in this regard, but mostly known for hitting great three pointers at a high accuracy rate. He led Cenial Phoenix to the title in the new CeniHoops league, showing off his calm demeanor and his basketball skills.

CENTER - ORION DARKSTAR - 20 years old - DNS United
Playing for Southpoint Technical College in the NSCAA, Orion Darkstar, and his school, were left out of most pundits' early predictions, but the school surprised all the commentators, with Darkstar at the heart of the team's effort, with an overall excellent point differential, indicating Darkstar's ability not only to shoot well, but also to defend well.

POWER FORWARD - ASHUR EL-AMIN - 18 years old - New Oxford Mercury
Ashur El-Amin may be one of the most prolific scorers for his team but also led the University of New Oxford (and, now, the New Oxford Mercury) in the defense as well, the very model of an all-around player who excels on both ends of the court. He is of somewhat average height, like many Cenians, but makes up for that with an with an excellent lay-up and three-point shot; his rebound is actually his best basketball move. He has worked well with his team both in the NSCAA and in the CeniHoops, and might be getting reliable playing time, especially considering how well his team has done both in CeniHoops and the NSCAA.

SMALL FORWARD - PHILLIP LOMAX - 22 years old - Cenial Phoenix
Although the University of Ceni underperformed in their conference, getting only 4th in the regular season, they won their conference championship to get into the Ultra 64. Lomax was one of the better players in his school and one of the better small forwards throughout the Cenian schools in NSCAA. As a small forward, he leads the team on offense and dunks while working in the man-to-man defense to deny the opposition shots. As a player, he works well with coaches who have a fast style of play, as he likes to be aggressive and shoot the ball a lot.

SHOOTING GUARD - OBRAN CAMASAU - 22 years old - DNS United
Camasau, of Romanian heritage, also featured on the Southpoint Technical College roster that went to third place on the NSCAA selection committee's tabulation. Versatile as always, Camasau is more of a flexible shooting guard, not only excellent at the shooting, with good dunks and layups, but also on blocking, stealing, and layups, contributing greatly to his school's success in the NSCAA.

POINT GUARD - KIANA KE'SAHNDRHAN - 22 years old - Whitehaven Storm
The only woman on this team, Ke'Sahndrhan has the misfortune of being a point guard with the eminent Cenian Neil Halcyon occupying the starting spot on the national team. Playing for Whitehaven Naval Academy in the NSCAA, she outshone some of the more touted pre-season players as her team won their conference and did fairly well in the NSCAA Ultra 64 tournament. The navy believed in teamwork and Ke'Sahndrhan was no exception; as the point guard for her team, she is responsible for much of the passing going on with her team and excels in that regard, and as the point guard for her team, she's an excellent leader on the pitch.

Four years have come and gone and now Os Bestas (The Beasts and not the Best, as some might suspect) return to the international limelight with their second consecutive appearance at the International Basketball Championship. During the previous edition, manager Luis Radeba steered his team to a fine record in the group stage (3-3) but the debuting side could not make it to the knock-out rounds. It was, however, an excellent preparation for the Olympics, where the Banguelan broke through to the last sixteen after four consecutive victories. A strong San Lleran opposition halted them to a possible next round.

Basketball made a positive evolution across the last four years, with the Liga Boll adding five new teams to their corps to make fourteen. In its sixth inception, which ended just a few weeks ahead of this IBC, the much-feared Mpulo Diamonds just picked up their fourth title. No wonder that many of their players will form the backbone of this side, aiming to make the last sixteen for the first time. Whether they will make that ambitious target, however, will mainly depend on Joao Vicente, an experienced and talented point guard and one of the five returning players.

STARTERS

CENTER - #5 - GARZAO - 26 years old - Ntangele Axes - 2m13

By far the most disputed member of the starting five, Garzao will have to compete not only with two team members but also with the public opinion. His main skill is his sheer size and beneath the ring he sure has something to offer but many worry about his capacity to contribute at this level.

POWER FORWARD - #4 - MATIA GROUCA - 21 years old - Mpulo Diamonds - 2m04

Still one of the youngest ones on the squad but that doesn’t halt Matia Grouca to boast several championship titles already. Great talent is there but a hint of nonchalance as well and that costs him every once and a while. He will have to keep his focus but then he can truly lift this team to a next level.

SMALL FORWARD - #3 - RUI DEKOTELE - 26 years old - Mpulo Diamonds - 1m86

One of the revelations at the Olympics, Rui Dekotele has evolved into the moral captain of the Diamonds domestically and one of the leaders of Os Bestas. He’s very quick and capable of has the stamina to make the difference in the final minutes despite a lot of court time. A cornerstone to the plan of Radeba.

SHOOTING GUARD - #2 - MARCO FELIPE - 24 years old - Bassuto Phonica - 1m97

A silent force both literally and proverbially but when Marco Felipe drops his bombs, the opponent has to watch out. His large tattoos and ditto beard gave him a fearsome reputation but the guys mainly know him as a reliable player. Has a set of excellent back-ups, so will have to play his best to remain a starter.

POINT GUARD - #1 - JOAO VICENTE - 28 years old - GBC Bassuto - 1m90

Without any doubt the star and playmaker of this team. Without him, GBC Bassuto is one of the weaker elements of the competition but the triple MVP ensures them spots amongst the last four on a regular basis. Reads the game and makes few mistakes in his finishing, combined with a natural leadership and pride.

San Llera National Team Roster

Name: San Llera National Basketball Team
Head Coach: Brad Eiffel
Assistant Coaches: Dionis Quoe, Tomas Perrino
Ranking: 25th
Appearances: 3
Best Finish: Round of 16
Style Modifier: 0
More Info: Here

Coaches
Brad Eiffel - A very young, up-and-coming coach. Led San Llera to two impressive tournaments, but then 0 points in his third. Job is in danger if that performance repeats.
Dionis Quoe - A coaching veteran, who helps counterbalance the inexperience of Eiffel.
Tomas Perrino - Something of a mad scientist. Knows an incredible amount about the sport but can't communicate it very well.

Starting 5
Position First Name Last Name - Height, Weight - Age - Team

PG Antoni Ferra - 6'4", 210 lbs - 30 years old - Marano Flood - Ferra is a defensive nightmare for opposing point guards with his size and length. However, he is incapable of making shots outside of 15 feet from the basket when on offense. Average passer for his position, can rebound very well compared to other point guards.

G Roderic Mieras - 6'1", 190 lbs - 25 years old - Cthulhu United - Mieras is no longer the youngest player on San Llera's roster, and he has now matured into the player most hoped he would be. He still is a little bit small, preferring to play shooting guard at just 6'1", and not incredibly large at 190 pounds. Mieras sometimes has trouble guarding larger shooting guards, but he is quick and has good hands for swiping at opposing players. On offense, however, is where he makes his salary. Mieras is an excellent passer and already the best driver on the team. He will torture any defenders who aren't as quick as him, and he shoots well enough to keep them honest.

SF Atualo Vela - 6'8", 230 lbs - 27 years old - Patria Poble Pupusas - The breakout star of the first IBC whilst Ganchana struggled, Vela was, before that tournament, regarded as somebody who was freakishly athletic but not talented enough to keep up. However, he proved his doubters wrong, as he showed an excellent shooting touch and great court vision. Vela is by far the fastest player on the team, and the most athletic, with a 36-inch standing vertical leap. He has also developed shooting and passing skills in the last four years, and will be San Llera's star in this incoming IBC.

PF Carlos Tell - 6'9", 360 lbs - 32 years old - Cthulhu United - Some years ago, Brad Eiffel speculated that Carlos Tell could become San Llera's best player if he lost some weight. Instead of following this advice, Tell did the opposite, gaining fifteen pounds since then. Remarkably, at 365 pounds, Tell is still a national team starter. He has excellent post moves and shockingly good shooting ability and speed for his size. With his power, Tell can be a monster on the glass despite his inability to jump more than a few inches. Unfortunately, he still is an awful defender with little mobility.

C Ganchana - 7'0", 240 lbs - 34 years old - Llerana Cthulhu - The best player on the team for a long team, age has had it's toll on Ganchana, and now his position as this team's star is in question. He rebounded in the second, but still struggled to find consistency. At 34, his athleticism, which was never his strongest trait, has started to dwindle a little bit. However, his defensive prowess, shooting ability, passing ability, and post ability still remain. When posting up, Ganchana is a nightmare for defenders, with his mixture of power and finesse. On defense, he is also very good, but can't rebound as well as he used to, especially considering that he is constantly nursing a torn ligament. This ligament and his increasing age limit his jumping ability, and he now has to rely on his height to gain an advantage. With more and more 7-footers popping up, this might be a difficult tournament for him.

Bench
G Marco Fuie - 5'9", 180 lbs - 30 years old - Pantans Revolutionaries - Talented, but too short to crack the starting five
G Tomas Bartoli - 6'2", 220 lbs - 29 years old - Llerana Cthulhu - Classic shooting guard that only shoots. Oddly, is an amazing passer when he tries to pass
G Marco Vas - 6'1", 195 lbs - 20 years old - Patria Poble Pupusas - Not very large or athletic but still one of the best prospects San Llera has to offer with his shooting, ball handling, and smarts
F Dextrino - 6'9", 225 lbs - 21 years old - Cthulhu Education and Preparedness College - Earned a call-up after his terrific NSCAA play, long, athletic, and a terrific defender
F Lluc Bosch - 6'6", 220 lbs - 31 years old - Llerana Swamp Dragons - Very small for his position, makes up for it with an aggressive, sometimes dirty style of play
F Felip Capella - 6'10", 240 lbs - 22 years old - San Llera University of Biology - Bullied opposing defenders at the college level, waiting on whether he can translate to national team play
C Marti Prior - 6'11", 260 lbs - 31 years old - Pioneras d'Frontera - Excellent all-around offensive player, but is backing up Ganchana

DRAWKLAND NET CORP
Basketball is an avid sport in Drawkland, with huge cheering crowds and near-constantly playing pep bands the norm. If you've never been to a basketball game in Drawkland, you may want to bring a pair of earplugs. Or two. You'll need them. We get hyped, maybe too much so.

As you may notice, the Drawkian team is sorta massive, as far as height goes. This is perfectly natural for Drawkians, as the national height average is 7'5" (they're not related to humans evolutionarily besides the shape and proportions and such). They also may seem like they're "middle-aged," but that's wrong. In fact, most professional Drawkian athletes are between the ages of 20 and 50. Again, this is perfectly natural, as the average lifespan is about 150 and the body doesn't "peak" until about 50 or 60.

After some losses last edition, they're ready to come back with some real power. With some new players from the collegiate teams (from the NSCAA tournament, IC'ly I'm saying this is after that tournament concludes), the team is back, with coach Cody Morgan ready to make a bigger impression in the big 20th edition.

This time, instead of going the basic "All-Star team" route, the Drawkian International Sporting Council (DISC) hand-picked team members, some high performers from last edition, a couple different all-star club players, and even a few collegiate players who REALLY shined in the NSCAA. This same team will go to the Olympic Games this summer.
The team is Co-Ed, and coaches were selected from the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion team's head coaches from last year's championships. The 3rd coach is the head coach of the current champion collegiate team.

Many thanks to Saint Kanye!

Sweltering doesn't even begin to do it justice.

Even though it's barely even ten in the morning, I can already feel drops of sweat rolling down my back. The damp, humid heat that's typical of an average summer day here is already beginning to smother me. I look up and see the urban landscape, shimmering with heat, briefly come into focus before fading away.

The sun is beating down on the city with relentless ferocity. This must be the hottest day of the summer so far; not that I would know, having spent almost all of my time indoors. I'm no idiot. I couldn't be bothered to step outside in such weather, not if you paid me a million rin. No, you can have your outdoors jaunts, I'll stick to lounging around in my air-conditioned room, where the temperature's actually bearable.

Which begs the question - why am I even here? Why am I sitting at a bus stop with two large travelling bags full of luggage resting beside me when the temperature's over thirty degrees in the shade? Why am I sweating profusely when I could be back in my room, playing games, reading fanfiction and generally being a lazy arse?

I'll tell you why. It's because I need money, and for that, I need a job. I mean, no sane person would willingly go to such lengths for the hell of it, would they? It's only because I'm a high school student who's dead broke that I'm looking for part time work. How else am I gonna get stuff that I want? And before you ask, I've already tried mooching off my parents. No fish.

"Learn to appreciate the value of hard work. Your holidays are coming up soon, right? Get out there and find a job, then you'll have all the extra spending money you want."

I let out a sigh and cup my face in my hands. If only finding a job was that easy. Well, it would've been easy enough if I didn't have a phobia of talking to strangers. All the vacancies I could find were ones in the service industry - part time cashiers, busboys, waitresses, that sort of thing. I felt sure I would freeze solid every time I had to talk to a customer, I was that socially awkward.

There wasn't a single job that I could take. I had gotten a little desperate at this point - money was really tight, and my allowance wasn't going to be enough, not when I didn't get a single penny during the school hols. Which was why I had put out tentative feelers, asking family and friends if they knew of anybody hiring anywhere else. Anywhere would do, as long as I could land a job that didn't force me into interacting with human beings on a regular basis.

Well, one thing had led to another, and almost before I knew it the calls had been made and the details finalised - I had somehow managed to land myself a part time job. The job seemed made for me - I wouldn't have to interact with strangers, I wouldn't have to put in much effort, hell, the pay was even reasonably good! It seemed like a godsend, a job made just for me, but there was only one caveat -

It was a part time job that's a full three hours' journey away from home.

So, yeah, I'm moving there for the job. Because what could possibly scream 'wonderful teenage memories' more than slaving away, putting my nose to the grind, working my fingers to the bone for a few meagre rin a whole three hours away from home?!

I fan myself with a hand and sigh.

" ... how much longer do I have to wait?"

I wipe beads of warm sweat off my brow and glance at my phone. Just over ten minutes to go before the next bus is due to arrive, ten minutes before I'll be able to hop on and feel cold, air-conditioned air playing on my face.

Ten minutes before I leave my familiar life behind, ten minutes before I'm flung into the cold, cruel world of modern society - a mindless cog turning round and round in a similarly mindless machine.

I let out a little snicker.

Now that's what you call an encouraging thought, huh?

RP Permissions & Other Information

The Grim Reapers are back at it again, this time hopefully to take the IBC title in the Rushmori nation of Ceni. The team, like usual, has experienced some changes to the personnel. The most notable of this is the promotion of Lorne Scrubb and Felix Kigab as the starting guards. Scrubb and Kigab, the face of their respective teams in Ottawa and Kingston, terrorised the league the last 2 seasons with excellent shooting percentages and their ability to score anywhere on 3-point range to earn their spot over Weiss and Kim, who are still on national team but simply were unable to find themselves beating the latest superstars of Quebecois basketball.

They are joined by Tyson Ejim, Daniel "the other" Scrubb and DeAndre Morris on what's a very solid front core as well. The ever-lasting Mr. Basketball, one of only 4 players now in their 30s, is still shining the lights out of everywhere he's visiting. Whether it's in sponsorship deals, school visits or basketball court, he's been there as the symbol of Quebecois basketball (OOC: think of Lebron in late 00s-early 10s and his influence in NBA) and looks to continue the legacy as the team captain. He's joined by Daniel Scrubb, who's switched positions to accomodate for better balance, and DeAndre Morris. The new name on the roster, he can be described by several words: Hustle, speed, quickness, goes all out on defense. However you may call him, he's a dynamic defensive player with excellent presence, providing the national team a much-needed upgrade.

With the strong starting core, an excellent depth group of supporting players and much more experience, the Quebecois National team looks to fill the stadia of Ceni with the baskets, physical displays and of course violent actions and loud chants by the Bubonic Plague. Scathe, Grim Reapers!

RP PERMISSIONS

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT

This will be Abanhfleft's sixth time participating in the International Basketball Championships. Abanhfleft survived the likes of San Llera and Valanora in the last IBC before being knocked out by one of the surprise teams of the tournament, Saint Kanye, which also coincided with the mysterious disappearance of Leo Baxter. COACHES
ImageHEAD COACH Paulie Brewster
50yo

Coach Brewster is usually calm, but when he sees the referees make bad calls, or sees his team behind, he gets fired up and starts to yell. He seems to favor his players, whether they're right or wrong. He gives everyone a chance to play, so expect all players to have stats. He also favors offense slightly.

Assistant Coach Foley led South Central University to a 12-5 record and its first men's basketball title in two decades, and is now gunning for the university's first back-to-back title in 46 years. He provides a defensive mindset to the team to complement Coach Brewster's preference for offense.
POINT GUARDS
Image6 Cedric Philips (starter)
6 ft 3 in (1.90 m) / 187 lb (85 kg) / 27yo

AKA "Chill Phil". Skinny, but very fast, with high stamina and injury resistance. Great in both stealing and passing, not so in rebounding, blocking and strength. Average shooter.
Image17 Darrell Gatson
6 ft 3 in (1.90 m) / 209 lb (95 kg) / 27yo

More of a scoring PG, better shooter than Philips, and stronger, but slower. Prone to injuries, but great at avoiding them.
Image34 Bryan Warner
6 ft 4 in (1.93 m) / 198 lb (90 kg) / 26yo

The "middle ground" between Philips and Gatson in speed, strength and scoring. Corner specialist.
SHOOTING GUARDS
Image40 James Blackwell (starter, co-captain)
6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) / 224 lb (102 kg) / 29yo

AKA "Jimmy B". Left-handed 3-point specialist, also decent mid-range, but below-average close range. Good defender and stealer. Fan favorite because of his game-winning shots and good looks.
Image13 Mikael Larsson
6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) / 228 lb (103 kg) / 25yo

A player you'll love to hate. Hot hand and hot head, shoots well and reacts a lot to referee's calls. Known for taunting opponents and picking up fouls from them.
SMALL FORWARDS
Image30 Frederic Trichet (starter)
6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) / 222 lb (101 kg) / 25yo

AKA "Trick Shot" Trichet. Name a shot, any shot, and he'll make it for you. 4-point play from past the 3-point line, 360 degree dunk, left-handed hook shot, you name it. Not the sharpest knife in the defense drawer, though.
Image1 Marc Stevens
6 ft 7 in (2.00 m) / 231 lb (105 kg) / 26yo

6th man and likes it that way. Above average (but not excellent) in offense and defense who performs better when under pressure. Known for 4th quarter comebacks.
POWER FORWARDS
Image22 Darren Overton (starter, co-captain)
6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) / 260 lb (118 kg) / 27yo

A smart player, good at finding holes in opponents' defense and anticipating plays. Despite his size, lay-ups more than he dunks. Also very calm and has not missed a free throw since middle school.
Image23 Adrian Page
6 ft 10 in (2.08 m) / 290 lb (132 kg) / 24yo

A player who went pro straight from high school. Very athletic, will dunk, block and rebound, but is a bit selfish. He sometimes takes shots he's confident of making, even if it goes against coach's orders.
CENTERS
Image24 Billy Forrest (starter)
6 ft 11 in (2.11 m) / 266 lb (121 kg) / 25yo

College standout, known for his spectacular dunks (but also a threat from mid-range), but a very physical and foul-prone defender.
Image50 Lester Smith
6 ft 10 in (2.08 m) / 257 lb (117 kg) / 26yo

The rare center with a 3-point shot, used whenever Forrest fouls out, but also when they need a quick score. Decent defense, swats shots like the opponent killed his mother.
Image8 Jason Morrigan
7 ft 3 in (2.21 m) / 305 lb (138 kg) / 31yo

The team's "secret weapon", a monster on both offense and defense, incredibly fast for his size, but tires easily.

Coach: Bethany Redman Age: 41
Assistant Coach: Isaac Redman, Jr. Age: 40
Venue: The Sacred Heart, Freedom's Altar, Yesopalitha (Cap. 144,000)

It's been eighteen years since Yesopalitha has fielded a team for the International Basketball Championships. Once, they were the ninth best team in the world. Then the great Irkan City Earthquake happened, and eighteen years later, the nation is still recovering from then, and just now entering into world athletics. Back in their prime, Isaac Redman was the floor general and Bethany Dickinson was the scoring machine; they've since gotten married and started a basketball academy that concentrates on using it to help kids stay off the streets. When time came for the Flames to return, the pair were contacted, and so here they are back in the tournament, except this time as coaches.

STARTERS

SF/SG #29 Isaiah Henri Age: 21 Height: 6 ft 5 in Weight: 213 lbs
PF/PG #7 Benjamin Warren Age: 21 Height: 6 ft 3 in Weight: 210 lbs

Play Style:
My team is very sportsmanlike and never does anything irrational. They might lose by thirty plus but they will be respectful and they will give their all. So, please RP accordingly. That is all I ask.
Also, my forwards score the most points, the PG dishes assists, and they all play solid defense. The team will almost always look for the three pointer, and live or die by it.

THE KARDASHIA KIBITZER

IBC 20 STARTS TOMORROW; SURGE GROUPED WITH HOSTS, NEWCOMERS

by Veronica Keselowska

KARDASHIA - Kanyean hoop fans, rejoice! Another great season of international basketball kicks... er, shoots off tomorrow in Ceni, a pretty little island off the coast of Electrum. The St. Kanye Surge, as the national team is known, is in the twentieth edition of the International Basketball Championships, and will be looking to improve on its bronze medal run last season at Valladares, the highest finish for an unranked team in that tournament. The Surge are now classified #10, certifiably a new powerhouse in world b-ball.

The Glorious Free Republic is placed in Group 1 with the Cenian team, tournament hosts; Silvacometopia, tied at rank 52 with fellow IBC 20 participants Ethane and Banguela; #93 Volcanoc, also tied with several other countries; and newcomers Fluvique and Mountainasia. Surge head coach Paulie Brewster stated, after the draw was known: "We're not going to take those unranked teams lightly. They have the potential to do a lot of damage. Kinda like we did last time around." Upon learning that the hosts themselves were unranked, Brewster added: "That rowdy home crowd will prove to be a factor. No disrespect, but I want my boys to shut the team down and shut the fans up."

Stadiums and schedules are not yet announced as of presstime. The Kibitzer shall be keeping you updated on all things purple and lime.

The coaching staff of the Vangaziland Royals National Basketball Team made the rounds by appearing on several sports talk programs. All sorts of topics were approached, including the standard fishing for rumors or strategy. The coaches seemed to be keeping their tactics vague for now. Kate Foyelson, assistant coach, said it best by stating "an analysis of our roster should show what kind of basketball we'll be trying to play."

Many of the interviews asked about roster changes.

The Royals moved Christopher Ironwrought into the starting lineup, placing Myke Fulborg on the bench. Knucks replaces Hurcle at center. Manny Battle and Sarah Overson replace guards Hensson and Hendorn on the roster.

"John and Greg are two good shooters that will be missed", said coach Tim Tomasson. "But we're looking to have more impact closer to the basket."

"Teams that live by the three, die by the three", said Foyelson. " We're looking at players that do a little more than shoot jump-shots."

Vannish Sports Network reporter Chip Maydress asked coach Tomasson if the lineup changes were "messing with" the system that brought the Royals to 6th in IBC power rankings.

"It's not a secret strategy", said the head coach. "We're putting in more aggressive players. Sarah is going to do a good job of racking up assists when Yulssen is resting. In the past we've relied on a shoot-first point guard off the bench. Vannish basketball is about pushing the tempo. Our backcourt should be up to the task."

Some of the interviews asked for thoughts on their conference.

"I think we have to have one of the tougher groups", coach Tomasson said. "Valladares is one of the world's top teams. They have just as good a chance of winning the group as we do."

"Frenline Delpha is another team we have to watch out for", said coach Foyelson. "They can easily jump up the ranks like we did last year. We can't turn our backs on them."

"We also have to watch out for the 'Surge Effect'", said coach Tomasson. He was referring to the surprise performance of St. Kanye's Surge moving from unranked to the top 10. "Anything can happen."

Team captain Hectare Yulssen also went through the interview circuit.

"We're a much more aggressive team than last year", the point guard said. "It's almost time to see if these new pieces will fit or fail."

THE KARDASHIA KIBITZER

SURGE UNVEILS NEW ALTERNATE UNIFORMS

By Ray Wright

KARDASHIA - In a press conference held at the Stardashia Hotel here, the St. Kanye Surge national basketball team took the time to show off the latest addition to the uniform set that they will wear to the 20th International Basketball Championships in Ceni. According to the team, the black uniforms with purple and lime gradient bolts on the sides will be worn for one game in the group stages, and assuming the team makes it, select games in the playoffs.

"These are craze", says Surge center Jason Morrigan. "I think I look a thousand and one times more badass in these black duds". "Simply amazing. Major props to our design staff", added point guard Darrell Gatson. A limited run of 300 replica jerseys shall be sent to sports stores tomorrow, to coincide with the first matchday of IBC 20.

The Paladins is the official name for any National team in The united states of Saints. For the first time in the history of the nation they will be playing internationally. While most of the players on this team were excited they were also discouraged. They wondered how badly they would play against opponents they have never faced, how it would bring shame to their nation. However, with the recent news of the Gridiron team playing very well in the ongoing World Bowl - reaching the playoffs as the only unranked team left - in their first appearance, The basketball team then threw away anydoubt they had in their mind and were determined to do the same.

This team focuses mainly on offense, taking a liking to the fast paced offensive strategy to account for lack of size on the team. The defense also lacks because of the little size they have.

Colours: Green, blue, yellow
Style: -5
Style notes: Defence is highly prioritised in the form of positioning. The strong defence comes almost entirely from tactical advantages instead of physical ones. The Union always plays a clean game with few fouls. Offensively, the focus is on running down the clock a little, opening up space for other players, passing and above all waiting for the perfect time to release, maximising accuracy and shot percentage. Threes are fairly common. Offensive schemes are extremely variable and can change every quarter if needed to always get the tactical edge over their opponents.

Bethany Redman (then Dickinson) remembered it very poignantly. Sitting in her home in Freedom's Altar, getting the phone call from Scott Scandricks, asking her to join the first ever sports team put together by Yesopalitha. She'd agreed in a heartbeat, of course. They'd qualified to Carasatoga - Isaac, Ryan, Kevin, Miles, and she - and made it to the Quarterfinals before losing to then superpowers of Sarzonia. It had been a Cinderella run - even defeating Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuk in the Round of 16 - and it was the start of something new. By the eleventh iteration of the tournament, two times after their quarterfinal finish, Yesopalitha had climbed to 9th in the world. Then, the fateful earthquake hit Irkan City, and Yesopalitha had vanished from the international sporting scene... Until now.

The renovations to The Sacred Heart were complete, and the nation was ready to get back out there. The tennis players taking part in the New Gelderland Open had finally had a little bit of success, and it was neigh time for the shots to fall again, for a nation to be revitalized, for Yesopalitha to prove once again that they were a nation of fighters, a nation of believers, a nation of doers.

She wished only that Scott Scandricks was here to observe all of it. He had bee one of the casualties of the earthquake, as he was visiting a bunch of high school students at that fateful moment in Yesopalithan history.

'Keep your head in the game, Dickinson! C'mon, one more shot! Don't fear contact, remember that they fear you as much!' she could still his voice in her head. The man had been a natural born leader, someone that people gravitated toward. Her husband Isaac admitted to her once that he was the reason that he remained on the team for so long.

And now it'd be up to them to take up the mantle. Unranked once more, it was as if they were starting all over.

The Vietussian Inquisitor

Vietussia to enter IBC 20 after puppet scandal

After a scandal involving Vietussia bringing in ally Derpsadaslkkf whilst unknowingly breaking the rules abruptly ended Vietussia's season, the team will hope to come back as a clean, new team without scandal.

Xavier Nogueras had this to say to the IBC media about the scandal: "I would once again like to apologize to all those involved in Vietussia's scandal during their first international competition. But the past is the past, and we have some basketball to play. The team is going to move on from it all, and I suggest you do as well."

Vietussia will get the opportunity to play in Group 8 alongside teams like Electrum and The Sword Bloke. Overall, the group seems fairly open and Vietussia will try and capitalize on offensive mistakes to get wins.

We will see you after the first game. From Hankow, this is Jeb Ports.

The Olympic bronze medalists in the last games will be participating for first time in the International Basketball Championships. Fluvique was draw in the Group 1 with Saint Kanye, Silvacometopia, Volcanoc Mountainasia and the hosts, Ceni. Despite the youth on the roster, the team is quite experienced and know what they are going to face. However, at the eyes of the multiverse and the coach, the team is almost a dark horse and have a lot of things to learn to enrich their glowing future.

The atmosphere will be granted, with more than 500 Fluviqueans fans in Ceni. Yesterday a major concentration took place in front of the team hotel, where the local police had to divert both cars and pedestrians from the paysan flags, flares, drums and fireworks. Even the players came out and chanted with them the classic war chant: Allez allez, la Fluvique. The party is secured.
