Kirisaki and Schottia
A bid for the 62th edition of the Baptism of Fire

Bidding nations

    Kirisaki
Kirisaki (Miranian: 桐崎 Kirisaki; formally 桐崎帝國 Kirisaki-teikoku, literally [the] Empire of Kirisaki, alternatively [the] Kirisakian Empire or [the] Akasha Empire), is a sovereign country located in Tyran. By dint of its unique geographical features, Kirisaki can be divided into five principal regions - Tsukino, Shiranami, Irijima, Akarui and Kirisame; the latter of which houses the core territory of Kirisaki, being the region in which the capital, Kirayuki, together with Kirisaki's largest metropolitan area, Hanekawa, are located. Together, the five regions comprise of over 1,750 major and minor islands.

Kirisaki is principally recognised as an absolute monarchy by the international community. The tenshi of Kirisaki, who is, by virtue of her direct descent from the Kisekidō deity of creation, Kirigiri-no-Mikoto, acknowledged as the divine ruler of Kirisaki. The tenshi possesses absolute authority over the country, and may freely exercise it at her discretion; however, in the modern age, the tenshi of Kirisaki have favoured a less involved role in the governance of the country, preferring instead to delegate the majority of her powers to a democratically elected, bicameral parliament - the Imperial Diet.

Considered a prominent political and economic power within Tyran, Kirisaki is generally acknowledged as a developed country by foreign observers. The Kirisakian economy is characterised by strong, effective partnership between the government and private sectors; the state maintains an interventionist economic approach - a policy which has been successful in encouraging rapid socioeconomic development while allowing Kirisakian governments to retain a degree of control over the Kirisakian economy. The domestic economy is primarily composed of research-intensive industries and fields, particularly mechatronics, robotics, and alternative energy generation - collectively, these three industries make up over 20% of the Kirisakian gross domestic product. Coupled with a strong tradition of scientific inquisitiveness, diligence and risk-taking, these factors have enabled Kirisaki to rise to become a regional leader in the field of research and development, as well as playing a part in cementing its healthy economic position within Tyran.

    Schottia
Situated just to the northeast of Kirisaki is Schottia, a small confederacy of former colonies, English, German, French and Spanish speaking. Although Dialectic Scots-English is the most widely spoken language, most citizens can speak, at the very least, German and French as well.

The nation is considered something of a socialist-liberal paradise, with huge levels of equality, close to 100% employment rates, and massed nationalisation. Since the 1950s Schottia has had a very dim view on colonialism and capitalism, having witnessed first hand the savagery and brutality it can bring. Policies of the country's socialist leaders have brought about the end of elite bourgeois classes, and introduced legislation such as a 10 Schottic pounds (or US $15.86) minimum wage, 100% tax on all earning over £100,000 a year, as well as a ban on owning more than one property. Its left wing economic policies has brought great success, with foreign observers praising the nation's commitment to realising a successful long-term economic vision.

Tournament format

With regards to the possible format of a Kirisakian-Schottic tournament, we are willing to consider employing different formats in order to accommodate as many new players as possible. Should the number of signups allow, however, our preference would be for a conventional format. Possibilities that we are entertaining at this stage include -

  • 32 teams; 8 groups of 4, top two in each group advance to the round of sixteen;
  • 36 teams; 6 groups of 6, top two in each group and four best third-place teams advance to the round of sixteen;
  • 40 teams; 8 groups of 5, top two in each group advance to the round of sixteen;
  • 48 teams; 8 groups of 6, top two in each group advance to the round of sixteen;
Regardless of the number of participating teams, the tournament will be single round robin, followed by a conventional knockout stage format. The tournament will be divided into two halves; with each hosted in one of the host nations and scorination undertaken by the other host [i.e. the Schottic half would be scorinated by Kirisaki, with the Kirisakian half scorinated by Schottia].

Scorination

Matches will be scorinated using xkoranate 0.3.3, with the NSFS formula.

The tiebreakers that we plan to use are, in order -

  • Points
  • H2H points
  • H2H goal difference
  • Goal difference
  • Drawing of lots [scorination of playoff game with RP bonus taken into account]

Roleplay

As the Baptism of Fire is, at its heart, a tournament designed to introduce newer players to the NSWC, we will be generous in awarding roleplay bonuses. With this in mind, we plan to adopt a bonus scale that will reward originality and initiative. Roleplays will be graded with an emphasis on quality over quantity, and acquired bonuses will be fully cumulative over the course of the tournament.

Additionally, keeping in mind the rich tradition of the Baptism of Fire as a platform for further involvement in the larger NS Sports community, we plan to offer participants the chance to partake in a series of roleplay opportunities throughout the tournament. The idea is to give new players a taste of the diverse roleplaying NS Sports has to offer, while providing them with a catalyst for future creative interaction within the NS Sports community at large.

It should be noted that these roleplay opportunities are precisely that, opportunities; and participants will neither be penalised or rewarded for making use of them. Upon conclusion of the tournament, we will select a Tournament XI of the best roleplayed players - who will then be given the chance to play against a combined Kirisakian-Schottic XI prior to the start of World Cup qualifying.

Previous experience

The two proposed co-hosts have plenty of experience between them; as the senior half of this bid, Kirisaki has previously been involved in a number of successful tournaments throughout NS Sports, while Schottia, the junior partner, brings a fresh injection of energy and enthusiasm to the WCC hosting scene - all while being more than capable of handling a scorinator.

The user behind Kirisaki has a hosting portfolio that includes several major NS Sports tournaments across three nations. Kirisaki has played a part in the hosting of three WCC tournaments in the past - the 60th Cup of Harmony with Kinitaria as Kazamatsuri, the 58th Baptism of Fire with Equestrian States as Mizuyuki, and WC70 as part of a four-way bid with Equestrian States, San Jose Guayabal and Felix. In addition to these tournaments, Kirisaki has also successfully hosted two editions of the International Basketball Championship with Electrum as well as a World Hoops Showcase.

Schottia, meanwhile, also has plenty of relevant hosting experience. While the user behind Schottia has not yet tackled a WCC tournament, they have maintained their own domestic leagues for a number of cycles, and also has the hosting of a regional tournament, the Tyran Cup, under their belt. Schottia has also successfully hosted the most recent U15WC to its conclusion.

We welcome any and all questions regarding our bid.

An update on our plans now that host voting has commenced -

Looking at the number of BoF signups at the moment, we would prefer to shoot for 32 entrants; which as detailed in our bid would entail a format of eight groups of four, with the top two teams in each group progressing to the round of sixteen. Should our bid win it is our intention to keep signups open either until we reach this number, or until it is unfeasible to wait any longer for additional signups, in which case we would explore other formats to best accommodate the number of signups at that moment in time.

Also a quick reminder that this thread remains very much open for questions, concerns and comments!
