April looked at the posted lap ti,especially and breathed a huge sigh of relief. She placed second by a tenth of a second to a driver who designed this track. That wasn't bad.
"Hey chief can you let the organizers know that I want to have new tyres whenever possible. I love these tyres but I run much better when they are fresh."
"I'll get right on that."
April retired to her corner of the garage to send emails.

Terho arrived in Eelandii feeling lost and confused. He'd booked a room in a nearby hotel and gotten a few friends to come with him to keep him company in the coming weeks. He had only one objective: get into a WGPC team, pronto. He was already feeling queasy after stepping out of the cab into the city and seeing the emotion running wild about the race.

He whipped out his phone once on his bed and heard about the extra car on the track ready for the race simulation, Chassis #11. He rushed to the garage in an effort to get the car for himself and participate in the race simulation, to show his talent, cash in hand provided by his rally team back in Aboveland ready to pay for tires and anything else he might need.

"Terho!" called out his mate Edvin before he was on his way, "you do realize you've never driven these cars, right? What are you going to do even if you do get the car?"
"Wing it," he jokingly answered. "Seriously though, I'll just get to know the car as I go. Can't be too hard!"
"Ah, well, you know you're up against the finest in the world."
"Yeah... Listen, I'll be fine. Stick around if you want." Terho was off with a jolly skip in his step as Edvin clenched his fists and hoped for the best.

He arrived at the circuit, clearly intimidated at the magnitude of what he was about to witness, caught a grasp of every last bit of bravery he had left in him and entered the building. Chassis 11 was his, no doubt.

"Everything looks fine, Mark – we need to make our move now before it's too late."

Fred Helmarsson, team principal of Carvenlo–Franklin Racing, looked at his superior for an answer. Instead, he found Carvenlo's CEO Mark Marsh's face buried in his phone.

"Mark?"

"Just one second, Fred. Already ahead of you." Marsh glanced over to Helmarsson, then turned his phone round so the younger man could get a better view of the screen. "That's an email I've just got from HR and Legal confirming all the paperwork to offer RL Cruisin a contract to become Carvenlo's lead driver."

Helmarsson grinned. He'd got his man. With no Liventian drivers choosing to apply for a WGPC super-licence this season, and old friends of the team having retired, his options for big-name signings were limited. Cruisin was perhaps the most consistent, proven name available on the circuit.

"Now, as for the second driver test at Gold Park, Fred. Have you got a list of drivers in your mind?"

"Absolutely. I think we'll be putting out feelers for the following drivers to attend Gold Park: Sanderson, Madison, Ellis, Convarion, Fjorissen, Toralmintii. Maybe a couple more if they impress in this afternoon's open race event."

"Toralmintii wouldn't be a pay driver, would he?" Marsh knew that with Cruisin likely to draw a big salary, he needed his second driver to bring in some sponsorship to balance the books. Carvenlo were a rich team – constantly finishing in the top few constructors across multiple WGPC seasons had brought in a big amount of prize money – but they simply couldn't afford to budget for two well-paid drivers.

"I don't know. I hear he may have some backing. But we need to look at him purely on merit, Mark."

"Very well. I'll get HR to send out the invites."

Terho ran his pale fingers through the front wing of his car. It's an old girl, he pondered, as he examined the rest of the cars in the garage. He knew he'd be down on power, and that a good result was possible but would be hard, especially on his debut.

He'd mingled earlier and shared a cup of coffee with his fellow drivers, and got to know a few. He didn't meet anyone he didn't like, and was feeling warm and fuzzy inside with all the comforting comments from everyone. However, he had a small doubt. He'd need a sponsor to get a shot at a team; at least he heard the word sponsor and hired together frequently (not that he was eavesdropping on conversations, of course).

Suddenly, his phone vibrated. He let go of the car's front wing and took his phone out of his pocket.

"Hej?"

"Hi! Terho! It's Edvin! Listen, we've got a problem and I've got a solution."

"Alright then, hit me."

"You're gonna need a sponsor if you're to thrive. Aboveland won't fund you what with all the wars and conflicts going on right now."

"Yeah, I was just thinking about that. What if we got EnerGo! back?"

There's a pause. Edvin stammers, then continues, "Well, that's not a surefire option. Even though the first Nordic Rally Championship went well, the successive seasons flopped and they lost a great deal. I don't think they'll want to invest in motorsports again."

"Well then, what's your solution?"

"I got in touch with Arcticair and Nortec. They both say they'd be thrilled to sponsor you. Particularly Arcticair; they really need to recover from postwar efforts."

"Alright, great, but what about the teams? They have their own sponsors."

"Of course, but these two will financially support you, stick some logos on your helmet, maybe get a tiny sticker on the front wing, who knows? Point is, you've got the money now, and it's all thanks to this guy on the other side."

"Wow, Edvin, that's amazing!"

"Yeah! Buuuut... I'm going to have to fly back to Aboveland to coordinate everything better in person. Think of me as your agent."

"Really?"

"Yep."

"Wow, really, thanks!" Terho pauses and plans out his next sentence, "and listen, um... Did I go down a bit cocky the other day when I came to the garage?"

There's a clear pause from Edvin. "Well, honestly, a bit. Like you took a bigger bite than you could swallow. But hey, listen, I've got no hard feelings. I almost forgot, in fact. Don't mention it."

Terho sighs in relief. "Oh, good then. Well, good luck back home! Where are you staying?"

"Porthos, and maybe then off to Athos or Medile-Nort. You're in good hands, buddy."

The call ends. Terho lays his phone on the front wing of Chassis #11 and leaps with excitement, doing a leg guitar solo in the process, as if nobody could see him. He clears his throat and aligns his shirt collar before proceeding to the media room as if nothing had ever happened.

TL;DR Terho gets big name sponsors to provide funding for him

CITY/TOWN: Eelandii

EVENT: Eelandii Simulation Event
TRACK RATING: (5/5)
QUALIFYING TYPE: Two-Tier
LAP RECORD: 1:22.409 (Jai Kardaeri, WGPC 12)
LENGTH OF ONE LAP: 5.19km

Eelandii Grand Prix Course, Eelandii, Turori :: As the drivers gathered in the paddock to talk about their Time Trial laps, a new face emerged. It was Terho Talvela from Aboveland. Apparently he'd been horribly delayed in showing up. Still, there was one chassis left and really there was no reason not to let him use it... except of course for the fact that he'd never driven the car before, and never driven at the Eelandii Grand Prix course before.

While there wasn't really time to let Terho Talvela get any practice laps in, iBen Toralmintii decided that the least he could do was take the late arriving driver around the course for a few laps in the safety car. So as the other drivers prepared for the race simulation event, Toralmintii was busy giving a quick course driving lesson to the tracks greenest competitor.

Meanwhile, over at Tropicorp Racing Supply, drivers were getting their last minute orders for simulation event tyres put through.

"April Crawford wants Tyres!" came a call from the front. "I know she does!" came the response from the trailer. "She's been here like 8 times asking for them! Has she paid yet?"

"Oliver Bliss too!" another yell from the front. "Sigh! I already have some set aside for him to, tell people they can only get 2 sets!"

"Alright Alright, what about Terho Talvela, got his set aside yet?"

"Terho Talvela? Who the #!## is that?!"

"I don't know, but he's got cash"

"Fine, then he can have Tyres too."

With that, the stage was set for the simulation event. R.L. Cruisin was busy chatting with Carvenlo racing officials, other drivers were on their phone or in the garage area with their agents trying to finalize deals on additional trial drives and race seats.

Juracai Klianiota, the Turorian Test driver who had done a shake down of Chassis #11 before the arrival of Terho Talvela, meanwhile, was no where to be found. He had escaped off to a separate paddock in the back with a handful of crew members for unknown reasons.

There was at least one strange incident during the second simulation session. As the drivers rolled off the grid, Turorian Test Driver Juracai Klianiota joined them in a chassis previously unseen on the day. It had come from a different paddock area and was pitch black with some gray and orange marks on it.

Klianiota started the second session well behind the back but quickly gained on the back markers and made his way through the field. Klianiota had no timing and scoring device on his car so no official times were kept, but some crew chiefs were mentioning that at least for a few laps he was the fastest car on the track. His presence on the track was not without controversy, however, as some of the drivers were not expecting a car to come up on them the way Klianiota did and at least one driver ran off the course momentarily as Klianiota overtook them.

At the time of the second intermission, when the rest of the drivers returned to the pits for fuel and some tyres if they were pre-ordered, Klianiota took his ride straight to the secondary paddock. The door behind him closed quickly and the chassis that he was driving was not seen again.

OOC Note: This is the second-to-last RP from my perspective on the Eelandii test. There is still one more "session" Vehicle Inspection & Session Complete. All cars will return to the paddock for an inspection by Vilita & Turori Motorsports officials and there will be one final drivers meeting before the end of the days events. There will be some news from V&T at this drivers meeting but please do begin making your travel plans to Crossport and other trials.

Please feel free to RP any race events related to the simulation standings. First come first serve on who bumped who, who slowed another down etc. Have fun with it. I may also posted each drivers personal fast lap of the simulation event in the final V&T post.

April was furious. When she has open air in front of her she's one of the fastest on the track. But when she gets in that blasted traffic she can't get around anyone she doesn't want anyone to get angry at her because she bumps them. She hates herself. She tips over a toolbox when she enters the closed garage.
"What's going on in the?!" Josh Brenner shouted
"She's packing up our stuff." The chief responded.
"She's flipping out don't you hear her!"
"Of course she is. She had a rough day today. She's still figuring out WGPC but if she needs to be an outstanding Dragoian she needs to be able to do this. Trust me"

April came out of the garage in a sweat. She looked guilty as her bosses stood outside. Mr Bernier just walked off. The chief walked in and began cleaning up. And he just listened while April went on about how the wide cars make her nervous on the track and she's scared to get to close to the other drivers. Because her dad died in a racing accident when his car collided with another car and went over the safety waĺl. The chief just went on about how she needs to just buckle down and her dad wouldn't her to give up.

Determined April Crawford makes plans to travel to crossport

Ask A Silly Question: Oliver Bachmann
As the start of the WGPC gets ever closer, we have got an interview with Oisinistan's WGPC driver, Oliver Bachmann of MRT Racing. In this interview, we talk about grasshoppers, hands and feet, and Worldvision.

Hello Mr Bachmann! Now, you've recently signed for MRT Racing, so tell us; would you ever eat a bowl of grasshoppers for 1000 euro?
Hello. Umm.... Strange question innit?

This is AASQ, don't forget!
I thought it was Racing Magazine, but anyway, I wouldn't. I can't stand insects.

Even butterflies?
Okay, I love butterflies. And ladybugs.

Fair enough. Do you like butter on your sandwiches or not?
I'm partial to the odd bit of butter, so I'm gonna say yes.

Class. Now anyway, the Oisinistani general election is coming up. As you are eligible to vote, who will you be voting for?
Nosy, aren't you? Well, I'll be considering voting Socialist Party, maybe Anne Finucane.

So you aren't a Youth Action man?
No.

Nice. So, would you rather have massive feet and tiny hands, or massive hands and tiny feet?
Hmm, that's a hard one. I'd say massive hands. That is a very difficult one though.

But how would you be able to drive with your tiny feet on the pedals?
With great difficulty, but I could manage it. A man learned to play guitar with his feet, didn't he?

Yes. Speaking of music, would you be a fan of Clodagh ni Riada's Worldvision entry this year?
Ah yes. 'Reach The Top' is actually on my current jogging playlist. Clodagh has a great voice, and sang very well in the semis.

How far do you think she'll get?
She could win it, you never know! It all depends on how much the international markets like the songs.

Indeed. So, finally, have you ever used a rubber duck to wash yourself?
I think we all have in our time.

Okay Oliver, thanks for your time.
Thanks for the free chocolate. Byee!

"Out of Eelandii"

Postby Drawkland » Thu Mar 17, 2016 6:55 am

First Intermission

Will Madison pulled off his helmet with mild disgust. It was the first intermission, and he'd finished 8th out of 16 drivers. Of course, he was in the 50th percentile, but that's really not impressive whatsoever when it comes to racing. Both Will and Coach Mannar were thinking this when they met in the pits next to Will's car.

"Think you can stop sucking?" Mannar chided.
"I dunno what's going on - I think the pressure of the actual race is getting to me. This is the most important part, and I'm starting to falter..." Will replied with a sigh.
"Hey, I'd argue you started faltering a few hours ago during the Time Trials," Mannar chuckled, barely suppressing a grin.
"Shut up, man," Will replied grudgingly.
"Anyway, next time around, try going for it on the straightaway and maybe whip a corner or two. Just not turn 10 or 11, we both know you'd fly out of that one," Mannar said, quitting his laugh and leaning in for business, "One of your greatest skills is overtaking, so use it, dammit."
"I'll keep that in mind," Will mumbled as he put his helmet back on.

Second Intermission

Will pumped his fist in the air as he slowed his car into his section of the pit. His team and coach came out to greet him as he stopped. He pulled off his helmet with more satisfaction this time when Mannar approached.

"There you go kid, what did I tell ya?" he asked.
"Great. I'm ready to hit this last part hard."
"Alright, then go and do it. Or else," the coach gave a grin as Will got ready again.

Conclusion

Will slid into the pits and into the garage a bit less triumphant, but still beaming nonetheless. When he clambered out of the car he still pumped his fist when Mannar came up to confront him.
"Great job kid. That'll show them for sure, especially in your fossil of a car here," the coach said to him.
"Ahhh ... I shouldn't have let Reni Sanderson get in front of me at close to the end there ..."
"Listen, you can worry about Running Sandwiches later. Right now, cool yourself off, get your legs back, and prepare to get outta here. You planning to stick around?"
"Nahh ... I think we can head back home once we get everything collected," Will decided after a moment.
"Sounds good to me."

Oliver was thrilled overall with his run in the first part of the simulation event. He was fourth overall at the end, and he had had the fastest lap during the time. He had slowly started to fade near the end of the first part so the intermission was a great respite. That said during the second part he was all but a non-factor on the events not even finishing in the top ten, and having to get ready for one final run to try to show his mettle. Finally he had managed to pull himself together and finish 5th in the final part of the test, getting to his demons and making sure not to seem like he was a speed guy, and not an overall racer.

With the rather nice finish in the overall final standings of the simulation, 6th, Oliver was feeling good about his overall chances of doing something in this season and getting a ride. Though not exactly the greatest overall performance, he had topped with speed in two part of the event, and he had shown lots of relative ability in the final actual simulation. Hopefully that would get him a ride soon, if not he would especially be ready to attack the Crossport event and get a job there.

"Oliver how do you feel about your day overall?'"

"For the most part i'd say it was a success. I came in here a relative unknown, especially after my lackluster first attempt at racing last year, and I came out here today to show that that was a fluke and I could actually be an impact on this seasons's proceedings. I think I went out there today and showed that I can definitely be a factor, and that many teams would be lucky to have me."

"What is next for you and your team?"

"Well i think most importantly we move on to Crossport. What is most important is getting a ride, whether I pay somebody or a team gives me a job outright. I think that I am good enough to deserve a chance somewhere, and I went out there today and showed that I am a talented driver. I am fast, I can race, and for the most part I can match the big guns. If I show that once again at Crossport then any team out there who does not give me a chance will rue the day. Hey, I might not win the championship, as expected, but I can start something. I plan on one day being a champion and each step I take will be in hopes to make it so."

"On to Crossport then?"

City Centre, Ceni

Vic and Jac-Irlo strode through the doors of the modern glass building hosting the offices of Owen Keteris's Tir Snake Strike - and also the office of Fornax Racing, the newly founded racing venture. While the security guards watched with mild alarm at the two clad in their racing suits and helmets, meaning you couldn't see their faces, they waltzed up to the elevator and punched for the top floor - the offices of the big honcho himself, Owen Keteris, only when he was in, of course. But the security guard just nodded and kept reading his newspaper; Keteris had instructed the security staff that they would be arriving shortly. The elevator ride was smooth, and the two arrived at the top floor without a hitch.

Keteris's secretary bid them to wait until Keteris was done with his teleconference with a group of lobbyists discussing the recent Hammerhead oil field in Electrum and Eura; the field was vital to Endais Chemicals' business interests (well, it could certainly help the business expand production). She gawked a while at the two and their racing gear, like the security guard did at the ground floor, but ultimately paid them no more attention as she went back to her work. Jac-Irlo turned on a television as they waited for their benefactor to finish up with his call. "The presidential primaries are heating up in Ceni as the Social Liberals look poised for a bruising primary fight between Audrey Goleidas of New Oxford and Sela Felan of Cenial, the former running as a left-wing candidate and the latter running on a more moderate position. Biran Ka has more on the story... Jac-Irlo switched the channel from the public news station until he landed on the major Cenian sports channel, Gravitas. They happened to be running a segment about racing: Fornax Racing is getting started for the upcoming World Grand Prix Championship with the test circuit in Proluvia coming up this Sunday. We'll have a special then, 10:00 AM, but for now, we have a report on Fornax's drivers, which will be announced shortly...

Just at that moment, the secretary showed Vic and Jac-Irlo into Owen Keteris's office. Sitting there was the man himself, with a stack of letters on his desk about Fornax Racing. "Take off your helmets," Owen asked the two young drivers. They consented, revealing two young, eager faces ready to race. Both seemed to be the dashing sort that were just right for racing; both were handsome, Jac-Irlo especially, with his wild, curly blonde hair emerging from his helmet, showing off his features perfectly. "There will be an important announcement coming from my office soon, and I will send out these letters to the drivers who have applied for our team, as well as some to other teams who might be interested in one of you," Keteris said. "You guys ready to race?" The two gave each other excited looks, and said, "Yes, sir," at the same time.

Jac-Irlo took a look through some of the letters, most of which were stock, but two were a bit different from the others. The stock one read like so:

TO: April Crawford, Marcus Melton, Igne Spupuo
FROM: Fornax Racing, c/o: Owen Keteris

Dear drivers,

Thank you so much for applying for Fornax Driving. We are extremely glad you have chosen to apply with us for a spot on our team. With that being said, we prefer to choose some of the most up-and-coming, talented drivers for our team. After looking over your respective performances at the Eelandii circuit test event and in our own internal tests (if applicable), we regret to inform you that you have not been selected for our World Grand Prix Championship racing team. We wish you best of luck in your attempts to find another team and in the WGPC itself.

Best of luck,

Owen Keteris
CEO, Fornax Racing

One letter in particular caught his eye.

TO: Will Madison*
FROM: Fornax Racing, c/o: Owen Keteris

Dear drivers,

Thank you so much for applying for Fornax Driving. We are extremely glad you have chosen to apply with us for a spot on our team. With that being said, we prefer to choose some of the most up-and-coming, talented drivers for our team. After looking over your respective performances at the Eelandii circuit test event and in our own internal tests (if applicable), we are pleased to inform you that we have accepted your application to join Fornax Racing, and, as of now, you, Will Madison, have been signed for Fornax Racing. Your Eelandii circuit showings prove you have the potential to succeed with our team, and we believe that our team can help complement your strengths.

As regards for sponsorships, Endais Chemicals will sponsor you and your vehicle - therefore you need not worry about finding a sponsor or money to pay our team. Our business model tries to bring out the best in drivers without them having to break the bank or spend lots of time finding sponsors when they could be practicing their skills.

Our first practice session as a team will be held fairly soon; we will contact you once we have secured a time and location for this practice event.

We hope to see you there,

Owen Keteris
CEO, Fornax Racing

"Who will be the other signing for the team?" Jac-Irlo asked Keteris. "As the best Cenian driver, our team will ask you, Jac-Irlo, to be the first driver for the team. Do you accept?" "But what about Vic?" asked Jac-Irlo. "He has talked to me previously and has agreed to go abroad looking for a team. There are a couple of letters in that stack to those teams - I thought you had seen them." "Yes, I will accept the offer, then," said Jac-Irlo. "I, Jac-Irlo Val, will sign for Fornax Racing." "When do we start?" "In a few days, once we can get all our stuff set up in Eura. Like I told Will - it's still up for change."

Jac-Irlo again shuffled through the stack of letters, and found the ones he was looking for.

FROM: Vic Convarion, c/o Owen Keteris

My name is Owen Keteris. I represent my client, Vic Convarion, who is a young, up-and-coming driver who wishes to take part on one of your teams. I believe he possesses the skills to do well on any of your teams, for the following reasons:
  • He has balanced skills across several of the main areas of driving.
  • He has excellent mental fortitude on and off the racing track.
  • He has excellent abilities to navigate technical tracks on the circuit.
  • He knows how to overtake well without risking a blowout of his tires.

This can be an excellent combination for any of your teams, and I believe that he can fill one of the empty spots on your roster quite well.

As for sponsorships, I have contacted representatives of several other Cenian companies, and Sky High Architecture has agreed to sponsor Mr. Convarion at whichever team he chooses to go to. We hope that their sponsorship should cover the cost of participating at one of your elite and esteemed establishments.

We hope you consider Mr. Convarion in your efforts to find drivers.

Sincerely,
Owen Keteris
Agent for Vic Convarion and
CEO of Fornax Racing

"Mr. Keteris," interrupts Vic. "You are a kind and thoughtful man." He had been biding his time to speak - Vic is a very thoughtful man, often lost inside his own head, thinking about strategies for winning and the like. As a result, he doesn't speak much, but when he does, he has something insightful to say.

"No problem, Vic," he replies. "I'm the unofficial racing ambassador in Ceni, and I take it on myself to look after my own. Good luck, Vic." He slaps Vic on the shoulder. "Good luck to the both of you. Even if we don't win this season, I want to get Cenian racing on the map here."

The two put their helmets back on, and resume their previous anonymity and the mystery about them. They then head down to a pub near the working class areas of City Centre to have a drink and a chat about racing. But first they would have to get there...

Atta boy! thought Terho as he parked Chassis #11 in the garage. On his first ever WPGC debut, he managed to finish an okay 11th out of 16, ahead of many competitors with far superior machines. He leaped out of his car, kissed the rear spoiler, ran his hands along the edge up to the front wing and sat down before it. Had it not been for his cautious approach on the first run, and his contact with April Crawford on turn 3, who he could overhear ranting in the distance, he would have finished higher up the standings.

Suddenly, he hears his Benny Hill ringtone blast him and shatter his zen state. He answers with a swift swipe.

"Yello?"

"Terho! Edvin here! How'd it go?"

"Pretty well, I guess. 11th place with a subpar car!"

"Nice, that's the way I like it. Listen, Arcticair and Nortec want to meet you in person. We need you in Aboveland by tonight."

Terho's gleeful expression turns grim. "Edvin, listen, uh..."

"What is it?"

"I need a team, and fast. Fornax already got their two drivers. I've noticed I don't need to wait for the team to come to me; I go to the team. As far as I know there are vacancies in McPahan, Carvenlo-Franklin, ENSADRINK, Cygnus, Archer and Telaris. I need you to speak for me as my representative."

"Ok, so? You can still come."

"Not exactly. There are going to be more trials at Crossport in a few days. I need to get there ASAP. Mind getting me an Arcticair flight?"

"What about meeting Arcticair?"

'Uh, Spyke call on the flight?"

"That could do."

"Great, so I need you to send out applications to the teams I mentioned earlier, and get Arcticair and Nortec on call, literally, tomorrow. Can you do that?"

"Yeah, sure. I'll see if I can get these people out to Crossport to meet you there if possible. Also, how does "always available" sound to you for the teams?"

"Brilliant." Terho gleamed. "Thanks man. Gotta rush!"

With that, he scurried off to the changing rooms to rinse himself off, scrub his body vigorously and pack his bags for the trip.

Later that day, in Edvin's flat in West Porthos, Aboveland

Edvin got to work with Terho's team applications. Thinking it through, however, he decided to go one by one, instead of blasting all the applications at once. He decided to start by applying to McPahan, one of the most prestigious teams in the championship at the moment.

From: Edvin Pekkanen, Terho Talvela's manager

Greetings! I am Edvin Pekkanen, manager and close friend of WGPC newcomer Terho Talvela, and co-driver's champion of the first and regrettably last Nordic Rally Championship, alongside my good man. As WPGC teams increasingly sign their drivers up favoring experienced men and women, I have decided alongisde Terho to write to you regarding a position on your team. Terho has proven himself on all surfaces in 2014 by winning the Nordic Rally Championship under gruelling conditions. In his WGPC debut during the Eeilandii simulation event, he finished 8th in the second intermission and overall, 11th, in a far inferior car to his rivals. This quick and consistent performance, plus his ability to work under pressure, make him an excellent candidate for your team during the 14th WGPC season. In terms of finance and funding, Terho is fully sponsored by Arcticair and Nortec, both being Aboveland's biggest companies dealing with aviation and information technology, respectively. My friend receives all his funding from the two stable companies who are willing to invest more in the young talent as he begins to show more promise, and/or if it is needed to secure a place in the championship. I sincerely request and hope you oversee this decision thoroughly, and do the right thing in choosing Terho Talvela as your number 2 young talent driver, on his debut season. You will not be disappointed.

Signed,

Alex is thinking

"All this time, and no one wants to sign me." Alex says to himself. "I've done everything and no one even gives me an offer." Mike came in and says, "Don't worry Alex, your skills will show soon."
"Are you kidding me, Mike? I've done test runs, practiced, and learned. Yet everyone just ignores me like ghost towns. I'm tired of your enthusiasm all of the time. Let's face it, I'll never get a team." Alex said. Mike replied back, "Alex, with that attitude, you are making that realization come true. Besides, we have an better chance than drivers who haven't done anything."

Alex is alone

Alexander said to himself, "Well, I guess it's time to go back to Formula Hawk. Also, I will pay 15 million to any of the teams I sent an application to."

Alex gets on Turori's airport and flies back to Dunpa

OOC: Alex goes back to Dunpa to practice for Formula Hawk's first event. As such, he will not be able to attend the final race session in Turori. He will attend Crossport, though.

Makeo Oket rolled into the garage, feeling a decent amount of success. For finishing second in his first international race, he celebrated the only way he knew how; a decent party with the crew. So, with that in mind, all he had on his mind was which bar he was crashing in. Sadly, Jamie Setoto had a different plan.

"Hell yeah! Tab on HQ, boys, we celebratin'!"Oket said, taking the helmet off, standing up from the car. A collective celebratory cheer sounded from the crew. All except Setoto, who was on his phone, looking through the teams with open spots still. Fearing the second place finish wouldn't let them into the first team, he began searching.

After five bars, nearly 2000 dollars, and somehow losing Oket for five hours, only for him to turn up later with a decent amount more numbers, glazed over.

"Still a fratboy at heart, eh?"asked a member of the crew, taking another drink.

"Eh, gotta unwind,"Oket said, flopping down on his bed, groaning."I need sleep."

"Yeah you do,"Setoto said, looking up from his phone."Crossport is our next race we are going to, unless you want to just train in Cryslis."

Oket groans, tossing a pillow."Crossport it is. Wake me up when the plane gets here. Or when we're leaving."

Makeo Oket confirms to participate at Crossport. Also, there is now a open spot in the Oket crew. One went missing, only to be found in a jail cell.

Confirmed.

Within a few hours of the race, Will, Mannar, Scott, and everyone else involved with Will Madison's endeavor were out of Turori. When they arrived back back in Metropolon, Drawkland, a surprise was waiting for Will.

"Hey, the man wants you," Scott told Will after he'd put all his stuff away in his Pinnapex hotel room. Will shrugged and got up.

Harvey Flantar was waiting in his large chair in his DISC office, facing away from the door when Will walked in. Flantar spun around in his chair. He was holding a data slate, which he tossed on his desk with a small amount of care. Will approached slowly, looking to see what it was. It was a blank screen with a mail icon. Will tapped it, and a letter of sorts flashed on the screen.

TO: Will Madison

"Holy shit..." Will murmured when he finished reading it, breaking the tense silence. It was kinda awkward, because he could see Flantar awkwardly staring at him in his peripheral vision as he read.
"What do you think? So much for a Drawk Corps sponser," Flantar grinned.
He has a really creepy face, Will thought to himself, "For sure. This is insane! This like ... instantly makes everything easier, doesn't it?" he expressed out loud.
"Absolutely! I told them that Will Madison CONFIRMS the signing with Fornax," Flantar said, "You are okay with that right?" he tacked on, seemingly hastily.
"Uh, yeah. Great. This is great. Thanks for everything," Will stuttered, "I'm gonna go and get some things in order."
"Enjoy yourself. You certainly earned it. You'll still attend the Crossport simulation for good practice against other competitors, and you'll attend racing practice in Ceni before and after Crossport. You'll need to become especially acquainted with Jac-Irlo Val, a native Cenian, and your apparent teammate," Flantar explained.
"Should be easy enough," Will shrugged, and he began to walk out of the room, "Make sure to call me when you get more news."
"Remember, this isn't set in stone yet, you still must prove that you are their best candidate," Flantar called as Will opened the door to leave, "Don't let Drawkland down ... you're our first chance at achieving greatness this year."
"Will do," Will replied as he shut the door behind him.

Will had looked up all the teams they'd contacted on his phone on the ride back to Drawkland. He'd definitely liked Fornax the best. Fire. Based in the stars. He hoped that he'd prove to be a good member of their first-ever team.
God, that'd be so embarassing, he thought to himself, Being the one to kick off their racing dynasty and be a failure ... they'd curse my name. Or worse, I'd drag them down so badly, that they'd just decide to quit out of the WGPC altogether.
Will shuttered at this thought, and he turned to look out of the window. I'm probably being too hard on myself, he realized after a moment.

After a bit he decided he'd take a drive to clear his mind. He navigated the nighttime Metropolon aircar traffic, and then went straight off to a country highway and let himself, and his car, go loose. He made sure to be on the ground rather than in air so as to stay acquainted with the way road feels. With Drawkland's advanced technology, sometimes it was hard to remember there's a whole other multiverse out there.

He stopped out in an open field, and laid back on his car roof, looking at the stars. He wondered if he could see the Fornax constellation from Drawkland, in Sonnel, as they in Ceni, on Rushmore, could see it. Maybe so, maybe not. He'd have to look it up. He laid like that for about an hour, staring up at the stars, until he checked his watch and decided it was time to return to the shining capital.

In Between the Stars
An interview with Arkan's proudest export, Makeo Oket

Interviewer: Hello and welcome to "In Between the Stars", a show only on Arkan News Network! I am Trisa Ytill, and today, we will be interviewing none other than Makeo Oket, international racer in the World Grand Prix. Oket will be joining us by satellite, as he is currently on route to Crossport for his next trial. Oket, are you there?

Makeo: Yes, hello Trisa.

Trisa: Okay! First off, congratulations on the second place finish at Turori. You looked excellent out there!

Makeo: Thank you, Trisa. In honesty, second place was far above where I expected in my first international race. The crew worked their wonder, the car held up, and we made second.

Trisa: Okay! Moving on, we'll be asking questions submitted by the fans of the show. First question! "Oket, what is it like traveling around the world?"

Makeo: It's pretty nice. Sightseeing, visiting, and cultural learning are some things that we do when we travel. Turori was a nice town, nice people, and nice scene, and I only hope the rest are like that.

Trisa: Interesting. Second question! "What is it like being Arkan's showing in the international racing scene?"

Makeo: Eh, it's hard. You gotta single-handedly showcase the country you grew up in, and show the people of your country how well you can. Racing is cut-throat, and as we get into the season, we may learn that.

Trisa: Hmm. Okay, third and final question of the time! "During your time not racing, what do you do?"

Makeo: Well, I got a reputation as a pseudo-fratboy. Don't know how that happened. I normally don't party everyday I'm not racing, I normally practice. Cryslis has a wonderful track to train on, both stock and chassis. Normally, you'd find me down there when we got a long break, offseason and such.

Trisa: Interesting! Well, thank you Oket, that is all the time we have today! Thank you all for tuning in, and as always, good luck!

The Crossport Test

"Hey, Roger. Rodge. Rodge.."
Roger Bunn took his earphones out and turned round. He squinted at the figure heading towards him, silhouetted against the evening sun. He put a hand over his eyes to shield himself from the sun's blaze, bringing into focus the outline of the pit garages of the Crossport Raceway circuit, and revealing that the figure coming towards him was that of Johan Johanson, lead Race Director of the McPahan Racing team.
"What can I do for you?" asked Roger, still squinting. He screwed his eyes shut and shook his head. "Gah, this bloody sun". Johan took off his baseball cap and plonked it on Roger's head, shoving the visor down over his eyes.
"Better?"
"Thanks. Wait, this hat is wet"
"Yeah, it's a sweaty day."
"Ew"
"You're needed in the garage, son. Lund has a problem"

Roger nodded and followed Johan towards the McPahan garage, three from the front of the pitlane due to McPahan having finished third in the constructor's championships the previous season. They were breaking in their new 'home' in time for the Audioslavian Grand Prix, which would be happening at the circuit towards the tail end of the season.

Roger found himself wondering what kind of problem Alec might be having. The first, and definitely saddest, of those thoughts was that maybe Lund was having second thoughts about being the lead driver for McPahan, and that Bunn could possibly recover in time for the start of the season to help replace him. The notion was swept aside immediately after he'd thought it. As happy as Roger Bunn was to be part of the McPahan team again, he knew that, were it not for that shoulder injury, he'd be racing again, and that would just be so much sweeter.

Roger and Johan turned the corner to see Alec standing to attention next to his car. Roger was surprised to see that, somehow, in the hour since he'd last seen his old friend and work colleague, Lund had grown by about seven inches. He quickly realised his mistake, and chuckled to himself.

"Frr lld tmmms sssk" said Lund, through a mouthful of helmet.

Roger gave Lund a firm 'bonk' on the top of his helmet, forcing it down properly until Lund's eyes were visible through the visor.

"What did you say?" asked Roger.
"For old times sake" repeated Alec. "Not having the 'Roger bonks my helmet into position' ritual last season cost me the driver's championship. I'm totally blaming you for that"
"It wasn't the months and months of champagne and decadence before the season began that affected your reaction times to much, then?"
"That was training"
"Of course it was"

---

Ten minutes later, the car having been fitted with warm tyres, a steering wheel and an Audioslavian driver who'd finally found a way to fit his helmet over his head, the brand new McPahan F190a racing car gunned its engines before rolling away from the pits, about to embark on a couple of warmup laps. After a couple of 'feelers', and feedback from the technical department, who had a keen eye on telemetery, Stan McPahan would give the order to 'push' to Alexander Lund. That would be the Audioslavian's cue to start his flying lap.

Lund coasted round the Turn of the Century, accelerated through Turn 2 and down the towards Hammerhead, keeping things nice and steady. The long, narrow-ish straight afterwards was usually the place where most cars would hit maximum speed, but Alec took the time to weave around on his tyres, as his team had asked him to, before taking turns four and five at a crawl and gunning the engines has hard as he could before braking hard and late for the triple hairpin, taking that nice and calmly before accelerating up Lund Hill and down Bunn Hill - both named after the McPahan team-mates from WGPC season 12. Alec braked early for the rail tunnel and Linco turns, before sprinting down the back straight and over the start-finish line.

Back in the paddock, Radoslav Salihamidzic was staring intently at a number of figures as they danced across the screen of his laptop. Stan McPahan was staring intently Radoslav.

"All good?" asked Stan. Radoslav furrowed his brow.
"Hmm. Power is low"
"How low?"
"Engine output at 93% in compare."
"In compare to what? I mean, in comparison to what?"
"In compare to how should go"
"Okay" said Stan, staring at an otherwise uninteresting spot in the table like he was trying to think it into daring to say something to him. "That's normal, I suppose. It's brand new. Needs to warm up."
"No" said Radoslav. "93% in compare to calculations. Should be faster."
"So... what's wrong?" asked Stan. Radoslav shrugged.
"Nuck foes" said Radoslav
"What?"" said Stan, after a brief pause.
"Is what you say, yes? When you don't the answer? Nuck foes"
"I think you've got a couple of those letters mixed up" said Johan, overhearing. "Maybe the engine just needs breaking in. Let him do a couple more laps."
"Ninety-four percent. Ninety-four point two. Maybe Johan is reason. Is right. Yes?"
"Yes. Whatever" said Stan. "Johan, give him the nod"
"Now, boss?" asked Johan, making sure to add the 'boss' so that his questioning of his manager's orders didn't quite seem like insubordination.
"Yes please" said Stan. "Let's see how it performs at full pelt. None of this pussy-footing around."
"You reckon it's safe?" asked Johan.
"Nuck foes" said Stan.

---

Lund was coasting down Bunn Hill again when he heard the order.
"Go go go. Repeat. Go go go go go"
Lund nodded to himself, coasted up to the rail tunnel, and got as much speed as possible coming out of the final turn. He set about raising the scream of the engine to a guttural holler down the start/finish straight, blurring all around him except for the middle-distance. Brake. Down the gears once, twice, three times, then as smooth as possible around turn one and aggressively as the machinery would allow him through turn two and the shallow right down to Hammerhead. Hard on the brakes, hard right, opening out to the long back straight, slightly uphill, before the kink of turn four told him it was time to jump on the brakes. The brake pads did their job, slowing the car quickly before to the Hammertail right-hander tried to force Lund's head into the surrounding stadium. Lund sped down to Knock, cut the power, and coasted round Hold and Loose before gunning up the hill that bore his name, refusing to let go of the accelerator before the rail tunnel turn - now sans the actual tunnel since last season's big crash - was almost upon him. A quick left at almost full acceleration brought the home straight into view again, and Alec raced down over the finish line.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Only a "box box box" from Johan over the comms stopped him.

Last season's testing period had been a little stop-start. So far so good this time around.

"1:32.850" was Stan's first words to Alec. Alec nodded, seemingly a little disappointed. Stan acknowledged his driver's frustrations. "We're not quite getting what we want from the engine. Add that to the hard tyres and you're looking at a few decent laps" said Stan.
"Your slowest was one-thirty-two nine six" came Johan's voice, behind Alec. "That's consistency. Good run, kid."
"Time for one more?" asked Alec, "It's a little slow, aye, but it's running nice and smooth."
"How so?" asked Stan
"No oversteer, no understeer, balance is beautiful" said Alec, "so much grip on the corners, even with the hard tyres, It's like driving a scalextric car. You're right about the top speed, though. The engine didn't give me those final few notes at the end of the straights."
"We'll sort that" said Stan, nodding. "Anything else?"
"Wing mirrors aren't pointing at the back of the car, they're pointing at me. All I can see is myself"
"Oh" said Stan, furrowing his brow. "We'll have to sort that after the weekend's tests"
"Yeah" said Johan, "you spend enough time admiring yourself in front of the mirror anyway"
Alec took his helmet and balaclava off and shook his hair out dramatically.
"Don't know what you mean, boss"
With that, Alec departed. Johan nodded towards Stan.
"That was a little slower than it should have been" said Johan. "I doubt it's the engine just being cold. It's most likely not the wingmirrors. What do you think is up?"
"We'll work on it" said Stan, "it'll have to stay as it is for the weekend's tests, though. Have you got the final lists yet?"
"I do" said Johan. "Terho Talvela, Makeo Oket, iBen Toralmintii, Jasmin Kranška, Laura Ashburton, April Crawford, Reni Sanderson, Alexander Kohlon, Ethan Ellis, Igne Spupuo and Oliver Bliss. Eleven in total. Will Madison still wanted to come, despite signing for Fornax."
"I bet he did" said Stan. "Worth a try on his part. I'm not sure what we'd have to gain by giving a rival pilot a few hours of practice, though"
"Yeah, I've wished him luck for the season and reimbursed his guys on their plane tickets. I'm sure he'll get plenty of time to practice in his new car"
"We'll see how those Fornaxes shape up. Any idea who's arriving first tomorrow?" asked Stan. Johan shrugged. "None at all. We're doing it the traditional way, after all."

The Crossport Tests: How they work.

Over Saturday and Sunday (both RL time and in-character time), the McPahan team will be in residency in their pit garage at Crossport Raceway, doing things like testing, interviews, guided tours, press meetings and the like. Over this period, officially away from the cameras (though McPahan expect a couple to sneak in), a number of guest drivers will be putting the new McPahan car through its paces. These guest drivers are those signed up to the Crossport tests.

Drivers have been told to arrive at any time between 9am and 5pm (though the team will be taking a break between mid-day and one o'clock) on either Saturday or Sunday. Each driver will be given up to five flying laps in which to prove themselves. Each driver will use the exact same car (the F190a that Alec Lund tested in the above RP) and a set of either hard, intermediate or wet tyres depending on the weather. The tyres may or may not be new, but won't be worn to such a degree that recording a good lap-time becomes impossible.

The thing is, the weather on Saturday looks like it'll be sunny in the morning, but will start to rain at around two o'clock in the afternoon. By five o'clock the rain will still be torrential. The tests will continue regardless.

On Sunday, the track will still be damp after a stormy night. The morning mist will hang around the track until around 10am, at which time the sun should come out again. The track will continue to get drier and drier through the day, but for the most part there'll be just one dry line around the track. Away from the racing line, the track will still be a little treacherous if your driver chooses hard tyres over intermediates.

The time it takes for each driver to record their times (they need to get fitted into the car, run an outlap, record five flying laps and bring the car home for the next driver) should be around an hour. Some drivers may arrive to find a small queue has formed. Some may arrive on Sunday to find that the track is damp but for one dry line, and only one set of partially degraded hard tyres with which to record their flying laps. It's up to you what time your driver arrives.

As with last season's McPahan tests, the RP process is a little different. There will be no scorination of driver times. Instead, users RP their own lap times themselves. Lund's time of 1:32.850 is a solid lap on a dry circuit considering the car's engine problems, but it can be beaten by a talented driver on a dry circuit. That's not to say, of course, that recording the fastest lap-time is going to mean your driver gets picked by McPahan to be the second driver. Some pilots will be traversing the track in damp, wet or foggy conditions, which will naturally slow laptimes. McPahan are not only looking for quick drivers, of course, but also those able to navigate wet tracks, provide feedback on technical issues, bond with the team and/or provide sponsorship money for the drive. In the same way, I am looking for a user who can write interesting RPs with a basis in realism, yet also with a creative flair. Being a little silly is great. Godmodding, not so much.

What time your driver comes to the track is entirely up to you. What laptimes you post are entirely up to you. Offers of a drive from not only McPahan, but also other interested teams, should be forthcoming for anyone who can RP well.

Good luck! And if you've any questions, feel free to TG me.

Oliver arrived early to the Crossport test. He thought he would be one of the first to arrive. He liked to be early, it gave off a good image to those he was trying to impress. Also he tended to race best when the sun was high in the sky, and if he got in early, and as expected other such brown nosing drivers would too, he would be lucky to get out there in the hot sun.

"Oliver it is still sunny out. The track looks good, what sort of tires do we want to run for our short time on the track?"

"Hard. I always go hard when there isn't water on the road. No point in not doing it. We need to show the best that we can."

"Ok. Any specifications you want for the car otherwise?"

"I'll be wearing my own helmet, I'll likely fit into the seat regardless of the size of the other drivers, I can make do. I don't need anything special. That said if you could, after i drive of course, get me a Martini, gin, not vodka, of course, stirred for 10 seconds while glancing at an unopened bottle of Vermouth."

"Aren't you afraid that this will give off a bad image to prospective teams. The drunken driver. Even if you don't drink, or drink while driving, heck i've never seen you drink."

"It's tradition. After every win i drink that Martini. I did it on my first victory day in Taeshan, and everyone since then."

"Ok."

Oliver then decided to head to the stands to watch the events unfold in front of him. He was not a car guy specifically, sure he could tell what was wrong with the car, and could suggest how to fix it, but the whole thing of dealing with engines was off to him. He loved to race, he loved to drive, but he couldn't even figure out how to fix his own car back in Taeshan.

As the third driver to arrive Oliver had likely two hours ahead of him before he got in the car and ran. So he went and found a nice seat in the stands, and got to watch the first two drivers, race around the track. It seemed like they were both doing very well and that they could be potentially do some things this season. Oliver however was ready to go out there and show what he had.

"So it is an out lap, then five laps for speed and then you are back in here. You ready."

"I was born ready."

Oliver got in the car and slowly got up to pace around the track. He was aiming for the minute and thirty-one second mark and felt he could hit it if he got it right. He used the flying lap to get accustomed to the actual track. He would use the first two laps of the five to push around the track, finding prospective alternate grooves, find where everything fit. He had put in extensive work in simulation cars at home, he had done multiple attempts at this very run before, but the actual track always had its bumps. Its grooves that were not in the simulation.

"Ok you're a go to push it Oliver."

After three laps of relative slow speed, the spotter putting him at 1 minute, 37 seconds, for his fasted time. Olliver was ready to push it on his third lap. He pushed it.

"Oliver this is really fast. You might be going too fast. This might not work."

"Oliver. If you keep this up you might just break the track record."

Oliver had thought as much. He was doing well. He thought he....

Oliver lost control on the rail tunnel. Oliver had thought this might happen. It was the one place on the track he was the most afraid of. Going up and down hills then into a deceptive turn into a tunnel was not exactly what Oliver loved to do in racing. Tight turns, large hills, and everything else was great, but tunnels really were Oliver's worst trait.

"You good Oliver."

"Yes."

"If you get back up to speed on lap four, you could get back some speed for the final lap."

"Yep."

Oliver did just that. He had kept the machine out of the wall, and got it back up to speed on the straight, then in the penultimate lap he pushed to get as close to where he had been before. That said the machine would have to be looked at extensively before the next driver took off.

"Oliver last lap push it."

He pushed it hard. He wasn't going to let up. Though precious seconds slower than the lap before Oliver was able to bring the car back at a respectable clip, finishing of his last lap at 1:34:03. Much worse than he could have done, but much better than not putting up a respectable lap. He knew this might not be his best foot forward, but Oliver thought that the way he came back might show some teams what he could do. He saved the equipment which for many was a good sign, and he fought back to put a respectable time which he hoped would ultimately get him a ride.

WGPC rookie Igne Spupuo slumps in trials: “I'm still surprised that I didn't end up dead”

The WGPC hopeful Igne Spupuo's first motor racing experience ends with a mid-table finish as he ends up in 8th in the Vilita and Turori Motorsports trials.

Eelandii, Turori – The V&T Motorsports pre-season driver showcase has concluded and Eelandii Grand Prix Course has gone cold, the trials showed veteran iBen Toralmintii and rookie Makeo Oket taking the spotlight leaving Deiorus' finest, Igne Spupuo in the shade

In a post-event interview, Gazette of Deiorus managed to get an interview from Igne Spupuo on the event and the status of his career, the middle-aged former jockey now driver continued his outspoken attitude

Spupuo didn't wait to respond to the criticism about his previous background being an obstacle in his new career when he talked to us.

“I would like to respond to my critics before continuing on in this interview, I'm sure they are going to have to agree that this was a pretty good result for a man who has no “transferable skills” and “no chance of cutting it in the WGPC”, the fact that what I drove isn't totalled and that I got an acceptable position in the trials proves them wrong.”

When asked of his thoughts about his performance in Eelandii, Spupuo shifted the blame on test driver Juracai “Driver X” Klianiota and his aggressive driving.

“While not good, I'm content to a degree by my result as it was only a few weeks ago that I didn't know what an “internal combustible engine” or a “transmission” was, I saw some positives and negatives in that trial as much as I was good at overtaking, I was terrible at defending my position during the race but I don't think I can take all the blame on spinout as I'm disappointed in the event organisers not informing us of the test driver's presence after the 2nd intermission, as I probably would have been on the podium if not for him practically pushing me into sand.”

Spupuo wasn't feeling nationalistic when asked how he felt about being the first Deiorii racing car driver.

“I feel numb, Isn't that expected after controlling such a powerful mechanical beast? I'm also still surprised that I didn't end up dead but, I should be used to that feeling over time”

With other rookies signing sponsorship deals with multinationals, ranging from fast-food the chemical companies, Spupuo have seemed to been left behind in terms of securing funds but he assures that the situation is fine and can always take advantage of family funds or government funds and airs some of his opinions about the usage of advertising in sport.

“If required, I'll be looking to secure state funds or sponsor myself directly through my own wealth as I don't want to deal with being a slave of a restaurant and sell sandwiches to get into a team like my less skilled competitors besides, I find draping the cars, the helmets and the suits in logos disgusting and would rather love it if it went away from the sport.”

His belief of experience not mattering continues to show as he promises to show teams what he can do in trials and confirms his appearance in the McPahan trials.

“I do realise having no prior experience and didn't go through the ladder of go-karts to local tournaments to GP2 makes me a less attractive candidate to teams but the fact that I didn't bottom out in Eelandii is proof that I don't need to go to junior tournaments and I promise to show more to the lads in Crossport”

The Crossport Tests will take place over Saturday and Sunday and Gazette of Deiorus will be attending the event.

Terho's watch silently carried on it's monotonous sound as he sat in the Crossport garage. He'd arrived ten minutes earlier, greeted a few drivers he met (even though he couldn't find iBen, who'd been extremely supporting and willing to show him around) and found himself a new tire to rest on. He loved the smell of fresh rubber in the morning.

Suddenly, Terho hears a roaring engine in the distance. His turn, it seemed. He watched as Oliver Bliss climbed out of the test car, confident and proud. Focus thought Terho to himself. No fear. Flat out.

He held his hand up to Oliver as if to greet him, put on his plain white Stilo helmet and climbed into the car. Out on the circuit for the first time, he took the first outlap as a recce lap, like he knew so well in rallying. The only corner intimidating to him was the Hammertail. Harpins in rally cars were fine. He could pull a Scandinavian flick, lose traction, pull the handbrake and fishtail around the corner. Here, it was all about the grip. How he would pull it off was uncertain. Every other corner seemed fine to him. He especially liked the rail tunnel section.

He floored the throttle as he came out of the tunnel albeit carefully, as to not induce wheelspin, and sped through the finish line. First lap of five Terho repeated to himself to remind him to not kill himself. As the Hammertail drew nearer, he began to panic. In sheer mindlessness, he slammed the brakes and lost the rear end for a split second. Floored it again so as to get his direction back. Close call.

Around the Hammerhead painstakingly slow, onto the winding sections swiftly and up the hill. Approaching the rail tunnel, he cleared his mind and went all in. Storming out of the final section, he was satisfied with his handling of the final corner. It felt a lot like Rally Bienvia.

1:41:56 read the lap counter in the car. Damn! Terho exclaimed going into the Turn of the Century. This time around, he'd try to slow down instead of braking for the Hammertail. Much better, albeit he knew he could do it faster. 1:38:32 was his lap time.

Third time around he pushed harder than ever. This time, for the Hammertail, he'd brake lightly at the end so as to take the corner quickly. He'd attempt a rallying maneuver: the Scandinavian flick. Hard left, hard right, easy left he hammered on to himself. As the corner approached, he took action. Slowing down a tad, flicking the car around and clipping the gravel trap. Just the right amount of loss of traction, and within a spatial area small enough to not interfere too much with any rival drivers. Into the rail tunnel and across the line on the straight, he came in at 1:34:84 YES! came out of his plain helmet, muffled.

On the fourth lap he tried the same thing, except this time, he'd try to keep the car planted. Too cautious with his grip on the Hammertail, he finished this one at 1:35:12. Almost there.

On the last lap, he pushed it harder than he ever had. Nailed the apex on the turn of the century, onto the straight to the Hammerhead, and powers through as if he'd Scandinavian flick on rails, moving the car's momentum and flinging it across the turn without losing traction and going sideways. Amazing he muttred. On the downhill section into the rail tunnel, on his way to a 1:32 time, his car skipped across imperfections in the track and went airborne for a f milliseconds. He floored it to regain traction and went into the tunnel almost disintegrating with sheer speed. Terho saved it on the hard right turn at the end of the tunnel with a spectacular fast turn. He pondered how he had messed up on his favorite part of the track. All was not lost, however, and Terho managed a spectacular best time of 1:34:23 His jaw dropped in his helmet as he digested what he'd just accomplished. Three times less than a second between each other, and great times for a rookie like him, almost beating his earlier rival. He parked in the garage and jumped out of the car, celebrating by tossing his gloves in the air. He greeted the drivers waiting for him to end, and repaired to the shower room.

Terho sat on the benches ready to strip down as he saw Oliver come out of a cloud of steam, towel around his waist.

"How'd you do?" he asked.

"Pretty well, thanks! Barely missed your mark by 20 tenths of a second!"

"Wow, that's good!"

"Thanks. You're really good too."

"Ah, thank you, um…"

"Terho"

"Right. See your around!" Oliver said, dropping his towel as Terho turned his back and headed for the showers. Feeling the water trickle down his back the young Abovian hoped he'd done enough good, consistent times as a rookie to secure a spot in a team: better yet, in McPahan.

The phone rang for a moment in the office, before being picked up by Tadeo. On the other end was a close friend on his, a certain Alexander Tingis, calling from Crossport in Audioslavia. Alex was on his way to the track for McPahan's test, where he would be lurking in the background, assessing any and all prospective drivers himself before recommending the best to the team. He had just come from the test at Eelandii, Turori, and did have a few names running around in his head.

"Hi Tadeo, you called earlier?"
"Yes I did, why didn't you pick up?"
"I was just getting off the plane, was a bit too busy to notice my phone."
"So you're in Crossport then?"
"Yeah, I'm on the way to the track for the McPahan test today."
"Good, any big news from Eelandii?"
"A few people have caught my eye, but we'll see after this."
"Who's looking good?"
"Well, there was Will Madison, but Fornax snapped him up immediately. I liked the look of April Crawford in the shorter stints and the time trial, but she just went backwards in the race, doesn't attack the throttle or really go for the overtake. Makeo Oket was extremely impressive, second at the end of the race, but might be a bit unprofessional though. That Taeshani guy, Oliver Bliss, was pretty fast in the second half of the time trials, but coming 6th from pole does raise some doubts. Then you've got your older names like Toralmintii and Cruisin, but with Carvenlo and McPahan still open, I doubt they'll come our way. Still worth keeping it open. Ashburton's been decent and mid-table, so she might be a realistic option, LaRoja didn't do well though. A couple more on the fringes as well, we'll see after Crossport."

Tadeo took a moment to take in all the information, before replying, "Good work, keep your eye out in Crossport. Also, you heard anything about Vic Convarion?"

Tingis looked through his notes, saying "Apart from the fact that he's contacted us about our seat, haven't really heard a peep. Don't think he's coming over to Crossport either, so we might have to test him specially."

"Hmm. I'll have a think about it. Anyways, have fun in Audioslavia."

CITY/TOWN: Eelandii
COUNTRY: Turori
EVENT: Eelandii Simulation Event
TRACK RATING: (5/5)
QUALIFYING TYPE: Two-Tier
LAP RECORD: 1:22.409 (Jai Kardaeri, WGPC 12)
LENGTH OF ONE LAP: 5.19km

Eelandii Grand Prix Course, Eelandii, Turori :: The race simulation event was over and all the drivers had returned to their respective spaces in the paddock. They were instructed to wait by their cars for a final debriefing with Eelandii and VTF1 officials who would inspect the cars, take any feedback from the drivers in case they felt anything was going amiss on their platform and give the drivers a parting gift as a thanks for their participation.

iBen Toralmintii, who turned the fastest lap and crossed the line first in the final session after chasing lesser experienced drivers around during the first two session and memorizing their flaws, was out of his car first and joined up with the inspection party. iBen wanted to personally thank all the trialists in attendance for making the Eelandii session a fun one.

Just one garage stall over from Toralmintii's was Igne Spupuo, the driver from Deiorus who ran as high as second place during the event. When the inspectors pointed out some damage to the front suspension of Spupuo's car the Deiorii driver became instantly irate, stating he wasn't going to pay for that and blamed the presence of Juracai Klianiota on the track, pushing him off course. Spupuo calmed down when VTF1 officials ensured him he wouldn't be responsible for the damage. In the context of the situation, while still angry over the incident, Spupuo came to realize that maybe it was the damage to the chassis and not his driving skills that saw him slip down to 8th in the final session.

Inspections continued through the Jasmin Kranška paddock and then onto Makeo Oket's. As the inspection team approached Oket's paddock they noticed the Arkan driver messing about inside the vehicles cockpit area. They noted it in the log and decided they would check it out later on as they wanted to get through the rest of the inspections at a high level before digging deeper into each of the chassis as necessary.

Elsewhere, in another paddock away from the main activities... Juracai Klianiota discussed with a team full of engineers about his thoughts on "Chassis X" - the dark toned prototype chassis he had driven out in simulation session #2. "I felt like the fastest thing on the track" Klianiota told the engineers "And that was without really much tweaking".

This was good new to the engineers, who asked Klianiota if he thought it was 'ready to go'. "I don't know" Klianiota responded, "It's definitely fast. It's definitely good. The only thing we don't know is how reliable is it. We've put it through a third of a run, not a full run"
Image

The engineers mulled over the Turorian drivers comments, then asked if he thought the chassis, and by extension the team was good enough to take to Proluvia, the first practice session for the WGPC season as an official entrant. "Who would drive it?" Klianiota responded, "I don't have my WGPC license and I don't know if they would let me drive the car, even if I am the certified test pilot. If they do, great, I think the car is ready. Minimal tweaks and it will be competitive. But we've got a late start. R.L. and iBen are the only ones with a WGPC license. R.L. is all but signed over at Carvenlo; after the struggles he had at Frontiere last season I don't know if we'd be able to convince him to come back for yet another unproven chassis when he's got an offer sheet for the #1 seat at Carvenlo just awaiting his signature. iBen is headed off to Crossport to participate in that test and hopes to leave there with the second seat along side Lund. We'll have to see how all that shakes out to see if they are willing to give it a shot."

The engineers went back and forth with Klianiota, the test pilot for the 'Chassis X' and went through all the possibilities. They asked him what he saw when he as out there, overtaking, what drivers impressed him.

"That new guy, Talvela. That Chassis #11 was not handling well. I made a few tweaks when I drove it in the second warmup and I knew the track so I was able to correct. But he had no practice, stepped into it and made some good moves on the track. If he can step into that Chassis and perform well with no practice, theres no reason he couldn't handle this prototype. Maybe we could get Terho Talvela to drive our car in Proluvia. We can't really offer him more than that since we don't even know if we're on the grid yet. But he's not on anyone's radar yet, hell no one even knew he existed until they saw him on the track today. But he's got some talent. Who knows, if we do get all the paper work done to get on the grid, we may get a steal. If he turns out to be a bust we can replace him with someone else. If we are going to show up at the pre-season practice, however, you guys have some work to do making the second chassis identical to this one. This is the good one..."

Back in the main paddock... When the inspection party reached garage stall #11, Toralmintii shared a moment with the debutant driver Terho Talvela. Then, afterwards, a man in a black shirt came in from the back and gave him a business card and told him to stick around or give him a call.

When inspections were complete, Toralmintii and Track officials gathered all the drivers and once again thanked them for their participation in the simulation event, wished them the best of luck in Crossport or "wherever your paths may take you" and in the upcoming WGPC season, reminding drivers that "We will see you all again soon" - referring to the official mid-season practice session scheduled at the Eelandii Grand Prix course prior to the Round 10 Vilitan Grand Prix in Rockii Coast.

OOC Note: Thanks for making this one of the biggest most succesful pre-season trials ever! Hope it was fun for everyone.

Crossport, Audoslavia

"Well that was all a bit of a fix wasn't it", said Jasmin Kranška, once her and her small support team had safely taken off from Vilitan soil on their way directly to Audoslavia. Jasmin had not done particularly well in Vilita, and was determined to convince herself that it was not down to her own ineptitude.

"I must say, the fact that their own bloke seemed to come top more often than not, and that he was in his own car was slightly suspicious," replied her race engineer, sitting in the seat next to her.

"Probably strapped a hyperactive kers unit in there somewhere. That or a rocket engine."

"I wouldn't put it past them", piped up a mechanic from behind them, almost squeezing his head through the gap between the seats so that his voice wasn't drowned out by the harsh noise of the engines."

"That and the tyre thing. That was just a money making scam."
Trying to make a profit in supposedly 'fair' situations was deeply frowned upon in Mattijanan culture and the fact that drivers had to pay for extra tyres in the Vilitan test had not gone down well amongst the team or the Mattijanan press, who had been filled with enthusiasm by both the success of MRT in signing two solid-looking drivers and by the country's unexpectadly good medal haul in the Winter Olympics in Electrum.

"That was shocking. Anyway, how's the Olympics going?" Asked the engineer.

"Sara Garipova had a blinder last night in the speed skating to win Gold. Unfortuanately, we managed to cock up in the four-women bob again and only came 7th. We're still 4th in the medal table though," replied Marko, the second mechanic with the team.

"Not bad". Still the four-man bob and the ski-cross to come. That's my favourite event."

---------------------------------------------------

"That's more like it. Country air, a decent test and a proper racetrack."

"Let's get ready to rumble. Just get a few banker laps in, pop back in for some aero checks and then we'll crank it up so you can show off a bit. There's a bit of drizzle around, but I've heard we're not just being judged on raw pace."

"Cracking. Let's get out there."

"One more thing Jaz..."

"Yes?"

"Don't worry about Eelandii, the loser of this test is ten times as better as the winner of that one."

Jasmin got out and took her time with her initial lap, getting to grips with the track as well as the dull and miserable weather her first sighter lap was a 1:40.910. The rail tunnel was going to be interesting and had been specially watered to stop the intermediate tires from blistering in the dry conditions. She cruised her way through that section before finishing the lap and gliding back into the pits.

"Good start." Came a voice over the radio. "I reckon that's 3 seconds because of the weather and 4 because of your pace. We're going to raise the rear wing angle slightly to give you some more grip and then we'll send you back out."

Jasmin turned the engine back on and started to up the pace as she motored round the final sector on her scrub, but still fresh, set of inters. She handled the turn of the century and zoomed down towards the hammerhead, locking slightly on entry, but getting away with only a missed apex and made her way towards the return part of the lap through knock, hold and loose, which she could never remember the order of and normall called left kink, right kink and that other kink that you have to get a decent exit out of. She accelerated and then braked gradually into the rail tunnel, taking care not to run wide, and once again stepped on it to get herself back onto the main straight. A large 1:38.248 popped up on the dashboard. Still room for improvement.

"How's the car?" said the engineer.

"Not too bad. We could do with a bit more grunt on the straights, but the transmissions nice and smooth. Can we stick a bit more wing on? I'd feel a bit better through the tunnel."

"The engine's a weaker point at the moment, so it's the same for everyone. I'll wack a bit more front wing angle on, but we want to be reducing it later for pace. I'll give you a lap and then you can do the last 2 on slightly less."

The next lap was better again and yielded a reasonable 1:37.323, not bad seeing as the rain had strengthened in the last couple of minutes from drizzle to light. Jasmin had been told to hurry up as the rain was supposed to get even worse later on. She decided to go more agressive through the fourth lap feeling more confident. She had her heart in her mouth round the last corner though, running a little wide on exit and coming within a whisker of the wall. She was rewarded for her bravery though and bagged a 1:37.231.

One more lap to go. Jasmin felt the car pick up a bit on the first stages of the start finish straight as she wound down the aerodynamic capacity of the car. The turn of the century was a little ungainly as she slipped a little on exit, but managed to keep the car going in a straight line. The hammerhead was well taken, but she was on edge as she just held the car on line out of the 'kink at the end which you need to get a decent exit from'. Gritting her teeth, she sped down the 'unstraight straight' and into the more sarcastically nicknamed 'my favourite'. Making a wider entey, she went for maximum acceleration on the way out, but was a little too enthusiastic into the second apex and had to back off a little as she almost slid her rear end into the armco barrier. A little flustered, she nailed the accelerator once more and drove across the line, slowing once a Personal beat 1:36.902 flashed up on her dashboard, cutting through the murky air.

Pulling back into the pits, her heart sank as she noticed a shard of carbon-fibre hanging off the rear of the sidepod.

"What's that all about?" She said.

"I think you might have clipped the barrier back there. It's o.k, I bought some trusty duct tape with me, no-one will ever notice."

"If you say so. I didn't notice." This was partly true. The adrenaline boost she had got from her tight exit of loose had stayed with her and any small bump had become fairly non-existant.

"Hmmm, just be careful that's all. Anyway you posted a 1:36.902 which is very impressive for the conditions. I Reckon we lost about a second between the first and last laps because of the weather."

"It's pretty miserable now and it's only 3:00. I feel for the person who's got to go later when it gets even heavier."

You're done now Jasmin, make the most of the hospitality and try and make a point of your sponsorship from the cheese people...käsa- kasan-..."

"Käsera" corrected Jasmin, not wanting to make the unforgivable mistake of misquoting her own sponsorship.

"That's the one. Go do some socialising."

"Thanks." Jasmin Kranška walked out the back of her garage and went to clean herself up for the evening.

Alex arrives at Audioslavia

"That practice at Dunpa really helped me though." Alex said as he left the airport with Mike and a spotter. "Wow, Audioslavia is nice. All of the AO i've been to are nice." Alex said to Mike. Mike reminded him, "Come on, we've got to get to Crossport."

Alex is at Crossport and the time is 11am

"Well, it's time to record five flying laps."

Lap 1 was expected. "Your time was 1:48:20." Alexander's spotter said. Lap 2 was better, but not by much. "Now 1:46:10 for second lap." Alex was enthusiastic when he heard about his third lap time from his spotter. "1:37:31. I saw you had trouble with the "Turn of the Century"."

Lap 4 and 5 were naturally slower "Lap 4: 1:43:54, Lap 5: 1:41:15." Alex recited as he got out of the car. "I think Lap 3 was an awesome lap. You might have gotten in the top 10 with that time, or not."

"Let's hope I get chosen for a team."

Rummaging through his pants on Saturday evening, in a quaint Crossport hotel, Terho found the black business card given to him by one of the Chassis X engineers. "Call me when you're ready", it said. He loved the secrecy of the whole ordeal: the mysterious disappearance of the test driver the day before, the blazing speed of the black car, dark as the Abovian night sky, and the precise organization it seemed to have. He'd recently heard that the team had been accepted into the WGPC as the eleventh team, and that alongside it would be two new openings for drivers. If McPahan decided to hire iBen or anyone else for themselves, he could have a shot at V+T in Proluvia. But what if the call was to tell him he'd failed all his chances? What if it was to tell him he'd not followed the rules and been excluded from the WGPC. Hesitantly, Terho grabbed his phone and dialed the number on the card. Two seconds later, the call was answered:

"Hello?" said the other side.

"Hello, it's me, Terho Tavela. I was wondering what you wanted to speak of when you gave me the small card in Eeilandii."

"Oh! Terho! Hello, how are you? I hope well. Anyways, about the card, I wanted to say you surprised us at V+T Motorsports. That Chassis #11 had seen better days and you, on your first try, managed to beat some people with hefty experience in better cars"

Surprised himself, Terho cracked a smile and continued the conversation: "Well, that's really nice to hear! I had been hoping to be noticed."

"So listen," continued no-name, "in the upcoming test in Proluvia we were hoping you'd like to try out our prototype. We need valuable inputs on its reliability and could do with giving some fresh talents a chance at getting in the team."

"Brilliant, I'll be there, no problem."

"Good, good. Take some time to rest before the sessions and good luck when we meet. I hope we get along well together in the future."

"Me too!"

When the call ends, Terho carefully lays his phone on the endtable by the bed, takes off his shirt, throws it on the ground and jumps onto the bed. In sheer happiness, he jumps twice and attempts a backflip, hitting his head on the drywall and cracking it ever so slightly. Bruised, he rubs his head, examines the damage to the wall, grabs his phone again and lays down on the carpet. He was so close to getting his breakthrough. All he needed was one more solid performance. He speedials his friend Edvin Pekkanen to tell him the news and announce he'd be going to Porthos for three days to meet up with sponsors and friends back home before the most important trial in his career.
