Grand Duchy wins First Match
Ceni- The Grand Duchy has won it's match against Greater Rashland. The game was tied 0-0 until 2 minutes into stoppage time when a strike by Micheil Williams scored the only goal of the game. The goal gave the Grand Duchy of 46566 the win and placed them into second place in their group behind The Medician Islands by goal differential. By winning one more game the Grand Duchy can almost secure itself a qualification into the round of 16. The second game is against the team from Nordeana who lost thier last game 4-2 and would be guarantied elimination should they lose to the Grand Duchy. Should both the 46566 and The Medician Islands national teams win again they both clinch a berth into the next round and the third game would only determine who finishes first and second in the group.

The Oisinistan News

Ethane 0-1 Oisinistan
Oisinistan sealed an unconvincing but performed 1-0 win over Ethane, with Andy Strennmann scoring a fantastic goal from 20 yards.
Ethane had many chances to score through Jonathan Randie's many lapses in concentration but failed to capitalize on them. In the 64th minute, Lewis Priceman slotted an inch-perfect pass to Andy Strennmann, who blasted it into the net. Oisinistan's next match is against the mighty Whovian Tardisia, the national equivalent of a nine year old on Instagram who makes MLP and Doctor Who OC crossovers, with his Instagram account @my_pony_ocs.

Our prediction:
Oisinistan 2 Whovian Tardisia 1

Oisinistan Pull off Stunner to beat Ethane 1-0.

Andy Strenmann scored a stunner from 20 yards out against a sleeping Ethane defense to clinch the match for Oisinistan, in what was a very closely fought match for both teams.

With plenty of opportunities for both teams, the Ethanian players will be kicking themselves for missing that penalty in the 32' minute, which could have put them ahead in the first half. Jonathan Randie took out Jaylin Deering in a controversial tackle, which saw Deering get awarded with a penalty, but only saw Randie awarded a yellow card, allowing him to play on. Deering went on to take the penalty, but was unable to finish it, beaten out by a spectacular save by Matt Loovens, who managed to just get a finger to the ball, turning it out for a corner kick.

Andy Strenmann scored the winning goal in the 64' minute, after a slip up in the defense saw Strenmann take a stunning shot, which sailed into the top right corner. Ethane had plenty of chances to equalise, after regaining domination of the ball for most of the rest of the second half. Robert Kay scuffed a solid chance in a 1 to 1 situation just wide in the 74' minute, and Matt Loovens pulled off a stupendous save from a Rigby Headley shot into the top left corner in the 82' minute, after Boivin was substituted off because of fatigue. This was followed by a scramble at the Oisinistan goalmouth at the 89' minute, the Ethane team getting 4 shots on target during this time, which saw wonderful blocks from Mitchell King and Mike Roche, who had been substituted on for Alan Lopez, and 2 spectacular game winning saves from Matt Loovens, who had one of the best matches of his career.

The defeat for Ethane leaves them facing turmoil at the bottom of the group, potentially having to win both of their remaining group games to have a chance of progressing, or rely on Oisinistan to do the business for them.

Where did Ethane go wrong?
This defeat leaves Ethane facing a potential early exit from the tournament if they don't improve their game for the rest of the group stages. The team took control of the match early, capitalising on a slow start from Oisinistan, but their failure to convert any of the multiple opportunities on goal into actual goals shows a lack of squad depth, which could provide some issues for Curtis Steeling later in the tournament, if the team progresses that far.

Some Ethane fans might be at a loss to how, with so many great opportunities, the team failed to score any goals, and will be highly critical of Boivin, who had many easy chances to score, but did not have that finishing touch needed to gain a concrete win against what was a strong Oisinistan side.

Whatever problems the manager has with his team, he has going to have to find some way to solve them quickly, ready for the match tomorrow against a Quazira side which won their first match against Whovian Tardisa 2-1, and is now looking to consolidate its position as the other group progression hopefuls, keeping Ethane heading towards an early exit, which would leave fans disappointed.

Can Oisinistan Continue to Cup Success?

The closely fought match against Ethane shows that they have capabilities of pulling off some great wins against strong teams. With a strong striker in Strenmann, and one of the world's best goalkeepers in Matt Loovens, they sure have the players to their dream of cup success a reality. With a strong attacking team, and a solid defense line to keep out the counter attacks, the Oisinistan team can continue to success if they continue their tournament the way they played in a remarkable match against Ethane.

With Oisinistan facing Whovian Tardisia in their next match, the Oisinistan team will be confident in their abilities to secure a win for their team, almost guaranteeing progression, depending on the result of the Ethane vs Quazira match. With Quazira seemingly the largest opposition to their cup dreams in the group, all eyes will not be on tomorrow's game against Whovian Tardisia, but on Ethane's game against Quazira, and Oisinistan's game against Quazira on the final day, to see who takes the 2 playoff spots in this group, and who wins the group overall.

Can Ethane still progress?
The Ethane team still have a solid chance of progressing out of the group stages to continue in this tournament. However, their game against Quazira is a must win for them to progress, for if Quazira were to beat Ethane, and Oisinistan were to beat Whovian Tardisia, then the 2 progression places would be decided, and it would be up for Oisinistan and Quazira to battle it off for the first place in the group in what would be a spectacular last group day game.

However, if the Ethane team were to pull off a win against Quazira, they would most likely have to beat Whovian Tardisia, or hope Quazira gets beaten by Oisinistan by a larger margin, to maintain in their position in second place. All hopes for the Ethane fans will be resting on the game against Quazira though, to not live Ethane's fate in the hands of other teams.

OOC EDIT: caught off guard by early cutoff :/

Coach Netta entered the locker room, turning the flipchart so that we could see his tactical orders. He started talking some shit about vulnerable sides and a strong defense and whatever, while I did what I always did in my career when coaches were talking. Focusing on the game and shutting everything else out. I knew how to play, I knew my job in every team. It didn't matter if it was a bunch of school boys, a factory team, a backyard in Marinum where you play for control over one more block - or a stadium with a few 10'000 people in it. The only thing changing was the underground and the boundaries of what was seen as a foul. Generally, the more people watch you and the smoother the grass is, the more you had to watch out for the referees, and the less for opponent's elbows. My teammates listened while Netta babbled on about the pride of playing for Ficiscia and whatever else, and came to the (completely unsurprising) "climax" of his boring speech. Handing over a green-white-black new captain band to Decimius Hector. I liked Decimius. Sure, he never saw a factory from the inside and never played knowing that a loss meant he might need a bodyguard to get to school, but he didn't judge me like others did, and sometimes he even covered me against Netta.

Finally, he was gone and we could finish getting ready. I did what I promised I'd do before the game and prepared to send a picture to my mother ("No mobiles! AT ALL!" - Coach Netta...) who was so proud to have a son in the national team. "Decimius!", I called my new friend, roommate and captain over, "come take a pic for Valeria?" He agreed, taking a picture of us in our shiny white away uniforms to send back home to Valeria, a girl he met at our last test match. Since then, that was basically one of the things he talked about. That and our opponents at the Baptism of Fire. Then I asked him to take another one of me from behind, showing my short dark hair, the names of my siblings tattooed on my neck and the name on the shirt. Four simple letters: "VERO". He took the pic, I sent it to my parents and then hid the phone, sitting down as always to bring my shoes and socks in order. Petrus Rex, our right winger, blasted loud rock music through the locker room, perfect to get ready and angry. We lined up in the tunnel and I looked at our opponents from Silvacometopia - next to me stood someone called Tatar who didn't really look that dangerous. I glanced at Tatar again and caught him looking at me, so I gave him an angry view and he turned his head. "God, what a boy... are you sure you should play football?", I thought.

I heard the fans outside, largely from Ceni but some of our fans travelled along, and the announcer reading out our team lineup. "In offense, Number Eleven, Nicos Rectus! And finally, number thirteen, Sergius Vero!" I jumped a little as I heard my name and just afterwards, the team started to move. We were lined up according to our numbers, so I stood between Aleixos Carus and the oldest on our team, Ariostes Nuntius. Decimius lead us onto the pitch under the sound of the fans cheering us on and the music blasting through the stadium's speakers. We lined up and they made a lengthy rite of greeting the referee, our teams et cetera et cetera... finally the words I was waiting for came: "And now, please stand for the National Anthem of The Democratic States of Ficiscia!" We stand and listen, and in the end raise our hands above our arms shouting the words along with the fans from our home nation... "SUMUS FICISCIA! HIC PRO VICTORIA! CITIUS ET FORTISSIMA! SEMPER FICISCIA!" The words that give me power and the will to win.

The whistle blows and I pass the ball to Nicos Rectus, running down the field. On height of the offside line, moving back and forth. Underwood, a defender, sticks to me like a shadow. I do what I learned in the backyards of Marinum - a quick step back, and he feels my body crashing into his. Two steps to the side and I have the room I need. Decimius sees me and passes down onto my foot, a quick turn and Underwood is in my back. I run down towards the goalkeeper, seeing another defender approaching and trying to slide in, but before he comes I passed it down the line where Rex is running up, leaping over the tackle and shooting down into the penalty area. Rex crosses it in, but it is slightly deflected, too sharp, too far ahead for me - or isn't it? I see the chance, see that their goalkeeper doesn't expect a shot, and I jump forward. Raise my foot high. You also learn to fight in Marinum's backyards, and this is what I need now. Flying closer with my leg high in the air, hitting the ball and punching it back into the goal. The stadium explodes as I land on my left leg, stumbling shortly and then running off towards the corner flag, getting buried by my teammates. 72 seconds are played. Silvacometopia: Zero. Ficiscia: One. Scorer: Me. Sergius Vero.

Silvacometopia 0-5 FICISCIA (0-2)

SCORERS: 2' Vero 0-1 (Rex); 28' Hector 0-2 (Free Kick); 53' Alexandrios 0-3 (Norrman); 68' Vero 0-4 (Hector); 78' Parca 0-5 (Roskis)

Broomsticks defeat Christians, advance to playoffs

King Super Fast was a happy king Tuesday. The king played like one, stopping eight of nine shots in a 2-1 Fireboltian win over Christian Isles. Shooter LA8 and Shooter KO1 scored for the Broomsticks, while Owen Cavan got the Christians' one tally. Here was the call from Commentator KW5 on the winner by Shooter KO1:

"BackFooty DA9 hits the ball up and over the heads of the Christian offense. Shooter MS4 takes the ball in the all-out attack. Up to Shooter BS6, to Shooter KO1. He gets free, shoots, GOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLL! Firebolt takes the lead in the 77th minute!"

That was how the game would end, in a 2-1 win for Firebolt. The team clinched a playoff spot, and will lock up first place in Group B if they win or tie against Unified Lycan Territories. This has been a production of Newswriter LZ2.

Grand Duchy ties 1–1 Nordeana
Ceni-The Grand Duchy of 46566 tied with the team from Nordeana 1-1. The 46566 team was the first team to score within the First 6 minutes of the game. Johnathan Caan scored the only goal on a corner kick. The team from the Duchy held on to the lead for most of the game until the 8oth minute. David Ashborne a Center midfielder scored. David Ashbourne who plays for Academia scored on a good cross from Erik Sigursson. The move gives the Grand Duchy 4 points out of a possible 6. The Grand Duchy needs at least a tie to qualify for the next round. The 46566 Dukes plays The Medician Islands next.
The Medician Islands won thier last game 4-0 and already qualifyied for the next round regardless the outcome of the game between the 46566-The Medician Islands game. To secure qualification the national team needs a win or a tie to secure a spot in the next round. Should the national team lose the next game they can still qualify for the next round should the Nordeana team lose. The 46566 team can still move on to the next round should Nordeana win it's next match. As long as the 3 goal buffer is not met the Grand Duchy will still qualify for the next round. Any other result and the Grand Duchy will be knocked out of the tournament.
Overall this has been a good outing for the Grand Duchy and regardless of the outcome the national team of 46566 will apply to the next world cup. The Grand Duchy hopes that they can participate in other tournaments to strengthen it's team for the next World Cup.

The Arcadia Post apologizes for its misprint on Monday regarding when & who the Whovian team was playing next. Whovian Tardisia played Oisinistan today. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Whovians Defeat Oisinistan in First BOF Victory!
The nation is in shock and joy today as Whovian Tardisia defeated the team from Oisinistan today. It was a thrilling 1-0 victory as Cuthbert Jack scored the winning and only goal of the match. Peter Treloar managed to block all three of Oisinistan's shots on the Whovian net, earning a well deserved chest bump from the coach. However, being twice Treloar's size, the chest bump knocked him into the wall of the changeroom, but both the coach and Treloar feel confident he will be able to play the next match, this time definitely against Ethane tomorrow. Mr. Jack was unavailable for comment, as he was celebrating with his teammates, but Mr. Needham once again was. "I suppose I'll have to eat some of my words here," said Needham, "but we only got one goal. One! We should have thrashed them, but we still need experience. Could have been worse, I suppose. #1 could have not blocked any of those shots." "What did I tell you?" Said WA Ambassador and Foreign Minister Rupert Pink. "Give them some time and they'd win, and after they had some practice with the Quazirans, they've won!" Pink decided not to comment on the Quaziran media's treatment of the analogy he made after yesterday's match. Remember to pick up the Post again tomorrow for the ongoing coverage of the 61st Baptism of Fire to the World Cup!

The dull roar of the awaiting crowd could be heard coming in from the end of the tunnel. Nerves were piled high - everyone on the team knew that having dropped their first match, they couldn't afford to make any more mistakes. They were lined up numerically, with the exception of Cecily, who, as captain had taken the front. The first time they'd done this, they'd been wearing the white and red - now, the primary blue and black colors would make their debut. As a sign of solidarity, each of them put their hand onto the shoulder of the person in front of them - but given that Pavel, at just over 2 meters, was the tallest member of the team, this made things rather awkward for Zachary. He started taking a few deep breaths, calm his nerves. Maybe he'd been just a bit too shell-shocked for their first run-through on the international stage. Whatever the case, the organizers made the motion to come out onto the field - no turning back now...

---

The score one-nil was registered on the scoreboard, but it had been 1-0 last game, before they let 3 goals in. They may have gotten a consolation goal at the end to keep it close, but in the end it had been a loss. Now, the mid-game was approaching again - they could ill-afford to falter again here. They were on the offensive at least, and Zach was holding space on the back of the right wing. But a pass to try and get the ball in the box missed it's mark and the defense broke the attack, clearing the ball towards the center of the field. Instinctively, Zach began backpedaling into a defensive position - the long ball was contested between Jaime and one of their forwards, and while Jaime managed to get to the ball, the fight for it meant he couldn't aim it towards anyone in particular. An Asterland player was the closest to where it landed, and began taking it up their left wing - right towards him. Roddy moved to contest, but a pass left their opponents' feet before he could get there. The ball was back towards the center of the field, and their offense began pressing, leading Zach to mark a man. They tried to play out towards his wing, but Zach managed to get in between, placing his foot out to break up the pass, and knocking his mark off his stride. Trying not to let his mark make a move on the ball, he punted it to the opposite side of the field towards one of his fellow blueshirts...

---

"-cleared by Ogilvy away to the opposite side, trapped by Foster, and she'll push it up the left side. Moving swiftly now, she'll find Blackburn - can he make it two for today? Moving towards the edge of the box and oh- VAUGHN'S BREAKING- GOAAAAAAAAAAL! HE DRIVES IT HOME! 2-0 to the Territories, in the 31st minute! Let's look at the replay there... looks like the center backs cheat towards Blackburn, maybe worried about the threat of him taking another shot from the edge of the box, his first one was solid - but that leaves an opportunity for Vaughn on the left side, the wing back can't keep up with him. Blackburn puts a little lob on the ball between the two center backs and it's right at the height Vaughn needs it to be to head it on home. Keeper's left looking, can't get his hand out to stop it. No offside flag, let's double check... aw, that's a brilliant break by Vaughn! No doubt about it. that one's going in the books. Territories have insurance now, let's see if they can hold it."

---

It was getting raucous in the locker room. The Unified Lycan Territories' first international win was on the record - and it was an impressive one. After Lloyd had gotten the opening number, Xavier had ended up putting two in the back of net back-to-back, roughly ten minutes apart. Sophie would end up putting the cherry on top. With the help of Zach and the defense, Pavel had put forth a clean sheet for a decisive 4-0 victory. After such a disappointing loss the first time around it felt exultant to be in a victorious locker room again. High fives, big hugs, hard slaps on the back... Zach could get used to this. He definitely hoped to get used to this...
Unified Lycan Territories - Not just werewolves!

Vaumort, Anthor(Herald) — I'm really starting to believe that Anthorans are just destined to complete blow-outs on the international stage, following my coverage of the Ducks at World Cup of Hockey 29 and now the Warriors here at the Baptism of Fire 61, despite our nation mustering out everything we have, it almost seems like the International Sporting Gods are blocking us from what we covet most: a win.

Granted, this run here by the Anthoran "Warriors" national team is way more put together then our entry in international hockey; Manager Adrien Darby is a former manager from Preston FC, one of the most prestigious and elite soccer teams in the Champions League back home and has a record to prove his tactical genius; he won the League not once, nor twice, but four times between 1973 and 1979, putting an end to a title drought that had persisted the elite club for more then three decades. To cap that off, his squad is legitimately based on the best performance, not numbers; Darby held a two month training camp, trying out more then 45 footballers from almost every team across every Anthoran division, both Champions and Secondary Leagues. The team is captained off with center-midfielder #6 Denis Gardener, a 29 year old veteran whose spent the last eleven years of his career putting the ball in the back of the net for Tarbert, his performance alone has insured their place in the Top 4 of the League for the last decade and has put the club on the map. He's backed up by star midfielder Anthony Black, much younger at a mere 21 but already in three years the midfielder has made a huge name for himself at Preston FC, setting league leading stats in assists and just sheer play form for his short career. One can't neglect the talent on the defensive side of the 4-4-2 diamond that Darby has set up; Paget, Lovel, Fuller, all are household names across the nation and it's not just for Paget's flair for the dramatic. Top this skillfull team off with the two months they spent practicing at stadiums and camps across the Kingdom, many like myself are left scratching our heads as to why the Warriors have failed to score a single win so far.

Granted, we're close. Our opening game was a 2-2 draw Judinct, many of which blamed the draw on some jitterness from the centerbacks, and even though he let 2 goals in, Kingsley still had a remarkable night, chalking up 11 saves against the 14 shots that Judinct forwards took on the goal; he just lacked in support from his team, which was rectified tonight with the defense's masterful play; Yosmar's only goal came from a penalty shot off of what appeared to be a legit tackle from Fuller, but on field officials ruled otherwise and awarded the penalty kick; many blame the lack of goals on Rigsby removal from the game, the Norberry League's goals scored leader was pulled at 38' after the he started noticably moving slower; some are wondering if something was pulled and Darby is looking to avoid a major injury which would prevent his appearance in our final game, which the Warriors absolutely, 100%, need to win.

We're going up against Koenigreich von Kurland, who drew this week against the same team we drew against in Week 1 [Judinct], and like us, they have no wins, and they have a weaker front line, with their two main centerbacks out with injuries from the draw, though they appeared to be minor so they may be back in time for our match, but here's to the hoping. Darby absolutely needs to have his players at 100% focus, hopefully that diamond comes into superb play next week, with Black, Javier, Gardener, and Cooper all in the diamond, plus Rigsby and Moreau, if they can trap the ball on Koenigreich's side of the pitch and dominate possession, especially if Javier breaks out his stellar crossing ability, they could really spread the opposition out across the pitch which would open up a run for Rigsby and give him the chance to break out that same striking ability that's notched him 27 goals so far in the leagues back home.

Heeeey, let's go Darby! He guided Preston to wonders from 73 - 05, shame he retired to the lower leagues, but understandable after 5 titles. Shame, because that club so needs him back xD.

DEEP RESENTMENT DAILY NEWS

Profile: Brother Boot Knife of Warm Humanitarianism

Brother Boot Knife stands out among the Dudgeon-dwellers. He is, our reporters can reveal, a man. It's considered odd to see a man play football, but a dispensation was granted by order of Her Worship, Bishop Mass Homicide of Silent Contemplation, to allow the young Philippe Desmoulins to play footy, back in Anno Domina 19.

After a promising career in local soccer, Brother Boot Knife joined the ranks of FC Foul Pointe and, consequently, the Order of the Sisters of Perpetual Rage. So well did he defend the goal, and so loud did he shout the Seventh Hymn (sub-stanzas 153 and 179 especially loudly) that he was named to the national team.

"I am loving Ceni," Brother Boot Knife told this reporter. "Though of course my heart dwells in Dudgeon!" he added quickly, doing the ritual scan for assassins in the immediate area. But we were seated at one of this hedonistic land's many cafes, enjoying the prospect of a ride on its ample and efficient public transit, and the pleasant breeze did not allow us to feel fear.

(All right. That's enough transparent praising of other countries - ed.)

The male nun's clear affection for this frozen wasteland and its intrusive omnipresent convenience (there, is that better?) may be the reason he is playing with such joyful abound here at the Baptism of Fire. This newspaper considers him man of the match for his continual thwarting of the Silvercometopian attackers, who many in the stands thought deserved a better result than today's 3-1 loss to the Rampaging Sisters of Dudgeon.

Brother Boot Knife anchored a defensive wall that was able to withstand the Silvercometopians and put the ball forward, again and again, to Dudgeon's midfielders. And the attackers converted, thrice for the second time in succession. Sister Pepper Spray of Reasoned Discussion drew first blood. Sister Shotgun of Looking at All Sides of the Question marked another just before the half. Sister Kim Jong Murder, Dudgeon's top scorer over two matches, put the final nail in Silvercometopia's coffin.

The win leaves Dudgeon undefeated at 2-0. Ficiscia, also with a 2-0 record, is ahead on goal difference. Both teams will go through to the next round, but bragging rights and momentum will go to the victor in the final group stage.

"We will need to be vigilant right from the opening whistle," Brother Boot Knife said. Ficiscia was able to open the scoring just two minutes into their opening match, showing themselves no slouches as an attacking side. "But I think I can promise we will not be penalized, as they were, for excessive celebration." Brother Boot Knife bared his teeth, making the Sign of the Bite to the Neck.

We ended the interview, sipping a latte (this reporter's) and a small vial of spider's venom (Brother Boot Knife) with the question on so many people's minds: is Brother Boot Knife managing to stay celibate? Has he conquered desire, feeling only the seething rage that he faith requires?

"Well, my parents always wanted me to get married," he confides, speaking softly and slowly. "But I'm not sure I really want to be devoured afterwards." This reporter tried to explain that's spiders, not human footballers, but Brother Boot Knife seemed uninterested, and went back to studying Vero's form in preparation for the match against Ficiscia.

Medici Top The Table

Medici is reported to be top of its group table after two straight wins against Nordeana and Greater Rashland in previous matches. As a newcomer to the world stage, The Medician National Football Team have clearly baffled the critics, scoring a total of eight goals in just two fixtures. We were able to speak with manager Lope Rufino on his result reactions, strategies and future matches.

Reporter Maximilian Hernandez:
With some rather stunning results, what have been your reactions lately? What have been some of your strategies and what do you think about Medici's upcoming matches?

Manager Lope Rufino:
Well, to be quite frank, I have been ecstatic by our latest results. As a manager of a national team in the World Cup, it is extremely important to prioritize winning your first group stage matches, as that will build up confidence in the team and put us in a good position for advancement. Seeing as we have been consistent with a four goal high in fixtures, I am very pleased with this team and what we have done. We have shown the world we are far from a pushover.

Lately, I have been focussing on attacking football. We have some quick youngsters who are capable of making useful runs and hammering strong shots into the net or crosses into the box. We are currently running a 4-4-2 formation, one that fits us like a glove and will use for the remainder of the tournament.

Seeing as we have already qualified for the next round, a laid back atmosphere has developed in the team, but I will assure them that we must not pull up our effort in any match. I want to go out in our next game and thrash our opponent, just as we have done with our previous matches.

The Amazononian Observer

Amazonesta clinches a spot in the knockout stages with a dominant second half in their 2-0 victory over HUElavia

Image
Hector Pacheco passionately celebrates after scoring the game's opening goal in the 62nd minute

REDINXSON- Hector Pacheco, one of two center backs for Amazonesta, opened the game's scoring in the 62nd minute against HUElavia, while Omar Falcone made up for a missed penalty by scoring his third goal of the tournament in the 77th minute, to see Amazonesta to a 2-0 victory over HUElavia. This victory, coupled with the 2-0 Arioslavia victory over Owner-osity, has led Amazonesta to officially clinch a spot in the knockout stages with one game remaining, as both them and Arioslavia have taken a perfect 6 points out of a possible 6 in the first two matches of the group stage. They will play each other in the group's rubber match on Matchday 3, right here in Redinxson, and the game's winner will clinch 1st place within the group, while the game's loser will clinch 2nd place within the group.

The first half was a very boring half of play. The ball seemed to be in the midfield for nearly the entire half, and the chances for either side were few and far between. HUElavia, fighting for its life in the tournament due to the Arioslavia victory the day before, was finding ways to frustrate Amazonesta on the defensive side of the ball. They were playing a possession based game, and they actually had much more possession than Amazonesta. They were not able to bring the ball forward however, as they rarely threatened the Amazonestan back line. Amazonesta did not do much with the ball either, though in their only real chance of the first half, Omar Falcone hit the ball well over the crossbar, really wasting the opportunity. They went into the half tied at 0-0, with the game capable of going in any direction.

The game, most fortunately for us, went in the direction of Amazonesta. Amazonesta came like they were on a mission, and they played an inspired half of soccer. They started playing with the free-flowing style that saw them break through twice against Owner-osity, and in the 55th minute, Amazonesta fans thought it had all culminated when Blanco Rivero was brought down inside the 18 for a penalty. Omar Falcone stepped up to take the penalty kick, and fans everywhere thought that he would bury it. However, Claudio was able to make the save, and the score remained tied at 0-0.

While many teams would have folded after missing an opportunity like that, it is a testament to the ability of manager Orlando Juarez to keep his team calm, cool, and collected, even after that miss. He immediately went for a substitution, putting Luciano Rodrigues into the game for Leonardo Rosalez, and having his team keep pushing forward. It was clear that he did not simply want a draw- he wanted a win, to show his fans and the world that Amazonesta was ready to make a splash on the international soccer scene.

The dividends were reaped in the 62nd minute. After a header by Omar Falcone that was deflected out by a HUElavian defender, a corner kick was granted to Amazonesta. They brought defenders forward, knowing that they needed to get a goal soon if they wanted to win this game. Hector Pacheco, one of two center backs for this team, came forward and brought his head to the ball, and smashed the ball into the side of the net. Just like that, Amazonesta was one up 1-0. The whole team ran to his side to celebrate in the corner, as Amazonestans screamed shouts of joy all around the country, and especially within that stadium.

The team was energized, and yet, going to play smart. They did not want to lose their lead, so they maintained solid possession of the ball for the duration of the match. It was a counter-attacking goal by Omar Falcone that finally put the game away in the 77th minute, and after that goal, Amazonesta began to celebrate its qualification of the knockout stages. They had accomplished an impressive feat at any tournament, but especially one where this was their first ever time competing as a national team. They qualified for the knockouts with a game to spare, and still control their own destiny to win the group outright. As manager Orlando Juarez said, they could not ask for much more success out of their first two games at this tournament.

Amazonesta is going to have its toughest game of the Baptism of Fire so far against Arioslavia. Both teams have won both of their matches by a margin of 2-0, putting them in an exact tie for first place within the group. Arioslavia has looked good in the group, with both teams serving to knockout pre-tournament favorites Owner-osity in just 2 games. Amazonesta will have a tough sled ahead of them, as left back Paco Orona got a late yellow card, meaning that he will be missing the final game of the group stage. We'll have to see how Miguel Rosário does, who is widely expected to replace Paco Orona for the Arioslavia game.

Amazonesta fans will surely be excited for their match against Arioslavia. Orlando Juarez knew a draw would place both teams in the exact same position, since both of their previous matches for both sides had ended 2-0 against each other. He admitted he wasn't sure what would happen when all the statistical differences matched between the teams, so he would attempt to put his team in a position to win the game, as opposed to a draw. He told reporters that the team should play loose since they've already clinched a spot in the knockouts, but they should play hungry as only a victory will assure them the status of being on top of Group E, and establish them as one of the top dogs in the Baptism of Fire, which is a place that they want to be at.

57' - Leonard Rosalez OUT, Luciano Rodrigues IN.
62' - Hector Pacheco GOAL. 1-0 Amazonesta.
68'- Paco Orona YELLOW CARD.
72' - Blanco Rivero OUT, Marcos Fonseca IN.
77' - Omar Falcone GOAL. 2-0 Amazonesta.
83' - Urbano Simon OUT, Marcelo Braga IN.

0-0 uninspiring kick against Ethane:

It should be the grand victory securing the play off ticket. Instead it became a tired kick and rush attempt. Ethane went to work with a far more aggresive body language then Tardisia in the first game, hurting Florence Marino bad enough for a Change in minute 20. It is reported that she will play in the last game against Oisinistan but her presence was badly missed in the later game.
No team got any critical chances, Branwen Morgan secured the tie, and the 1th place in the Group with a decent performance. However the team performance all in all was abysmal.
Certainly the two highlights of the game were the Fan Performance before the game celebrating the Summer Hit of the year "to Quazira the 9 points" and the After Match performance of Samuel Odd, long time Boyfriend of Diana Capello declaring his eternal love in front of 40 000 fans and proposing to the cheers of the Quaziran Fans.
The wedding is scheduled for the second week after the BoF Final.

ARIOSLAVIA DEFEATS OWNER-OSITY AND ADVANCES INTO PLAY-OFFS!

Arioslavia celebrates as the national team defeats Owner-osity 2 - 0. The victory means that Sborna will play in play-off stage of the BoF. This also means an end of the Ownerian hopes for mantaining chance to advance, as this was their second defeat.

The pre-match atmosphere was rather aggressive. The Ownerian press issued provocative statements about our team, including manager, staff and best players. However, Sborna quickly proved their skills. First, Alexander Artyomov scored his third goal in the tournament in 12. minute. He scored an awesome goal with his head after a corner. Ownerians tried to regain their initiative, but Yashin was doing his best to prevent them from scoring a goal. In 37. minute, Nikolay Seleznev comitted a foul in the penalty field against Boorcroft. He was fined with a yellow card, but Adams' shot from 11 meters was stopped by Yashin. The wasted opportunity to score a goal caused Bloodsticks to get more nervous, making it easier for Sborna to control the game. In 78. minute Ivan Tikhonov scored a second goal after a beautiful pass from Denisov.

We have taught them a lesson of humility. They seemed to be very confident but in football professionalism is more important. - said manager Vyacheslav Frolov. I'm happy and thankful to my players. The atmosphere in our team is great. Now, we must focus on Amazonesia. We'll celebrate later. - he added.

The fans are full of hopes before Sborna's next matches. Amazonesia will be a tough rival, especially after their second victory against HUElavia.

Postby Ferret Civilization » Wed Jan 20, 2016 7:37 am

The next game was a little faster and more back and forth for the Ferret team, they were still trying to get used to playing not only in the environment they were in but also the opponents they were going up against. Though it seemed to go fairly well for them, considered how other teams had it, at least they had their early win, and that would hopefully help them. While the other game was more back and forth this one happened to be more stuck in the middle of the field and once either side got near the goal they made it, which happened to be in the other teams favor.

Though during the game Elis and Ruaridh had a fun time trying to figure out how to work their way around the other team’s legs. Meanwhile Éanna and Iikka had just as fun a time trying to figure out how to best handle the ball given its side ratio compared to the players. Another thing that was fully realized now was how their goalie Sakke was going to have to do his job, since the goal was kind of large for him, and anything that went high was pretty much guaranteed for the other team. But on the up side the attack members on their team seemed to figure out how to handle the ball somewhat.

After the game was over they ended up losing, though they did eventual learn a lot, and they still had a little bit of hope that they could make it into the game itself. Though given this type of game it was still a long shot, but hope always had a way of sticking with them just like the happy optimism that seemed to manage to stick with Ferrets too. And as long as they were together the fear that haunted them too stayed at bay so they could focus on the games themselves. So that’s what they did, discuss what they could do to at least win the next game.

“Well, see the size of the ball we have to play with.” Kristoffer held a football up that he managed to get from one of the stores here in this place, “For us, this is big.”

“Everything here is big, even the other players are big by that account.” Varg replied, “There is nothing we can do about that.” He looked around at everyone, “You have made some goals already, so you have something down.”

Kristoffer played with the ball lightly tossing it back and forth between his paws, “Could try to use our size to our advantage?”

“How? The other teams can use that their advantage against us. Then the ball itself is against us if we try to go to fast with it.” Elis interjected.

“Just hear me out, they have the advantage if we are going far, but close up there is a way. And that’s how we are going to have to do it. None of that aggressive get far stuff, pretty much hug the ball. We can easily get around the others.”

“At a high chance of injury.”

“Well, we can figure something out.”

1. Layne Walsh
Goalkeeper. Chosen because he is the only player in the squad not to have receive a knife though any of his two hands.
2. Roger Haley
Left back. Nicknamed the "career ender".
3. Coy Simpson
Right back. Voted as the most likely player to be executed for his performances in the national team ahead of the Baptism of Fire.
4. Quinton Jerome
Center back. Stands at 2m08 high but has very little control over what he does with his body over than control it's general direction.
5. Chile Hopson
Center back. Believed to have an anger problem by some. Those of mention it to his face often don't live to tell the tail.
6. Xavior Crewe
Center midfielder. Captain and "manager". Only player in the team who is actually quite a competent footballer.
7. Jaron Taylor
Left winger. Only player in the team to be left footed.
8. Slade Francis
Center midfielder. Selected only because he is the boyfriend of the Emperor's third daughter.
9. Trueman Kemp
Right winger. Alcoholic who has been known to down a few pints at half time in order to "calm his nerves".
10. Lachlan Ward
Forward. Once scored a goal from 40 yards out in an army match. Was selected once people realised he wasn't any good at shooting an actual gun.
11. Aaron Rowntree
Forward. Fastest player in the team. Became a forward when the manager realised he didn't care much about actually keeping a fixed position during a match.

Know that Uzekia is a pretty extreme dictatorship to the north of Kernansquillec in the region of Rushmore. A while ago Kernansquillec and Uzekia fought a pretty bloody war that ended in defeat for the Uzekians. Since always they've hated Kernansquillec with a vengeance, along with anything that's green. In general anything that isn't approved by the Emperor is hated with an actually "list of things hated by the Emperor" being a central part of life in Uzekia, the list being updated at the start of every month. Latest additions include "butterflies", "lights that flicker" and "chesthair".

About the national team itself. This is the start of their international career. Tradition has it that the worst player of the team at each tournament is executed. This is only lifted when the team win all of their matches and lift the trophy. No substitutes are included because be a simple replacement is seen as dishonourable in Uzekia and no one would ever accept such a role. It is not uncommon to see multiple players walking by the end of 90 minutes due to fatigue and injuries. Furthermore, the team includes no backroom staff, don't really follow the rules of football, let alone of fairplay, and take a liking to turning up to games fairly drunk. Fights are also common place, often within the team itself, though certain opponents may end up on the end of a punch.

STOPPING TRAITORS, TOGETHER

Citizens of the Empire! The Common Good is under threat! Our way of life is under threat! The peace that our beloved Emperor fights so hard to defend is under threat! Why? Because of the traitors and Kernansquillecan loving scum who desperately attempt to infiltrate our glorious nation. But they cannot win! We are one, united people, stronger than all, as powerful as the whole World united. Our glorious people must remain vigilant. Even as you read, the forces of evil are everywhere! There act both here and abroad. During the Baptism of Fire where the Emperor's team are just a match away from qualifying for the knockout rounds of their first ever international tournament one such agent was hard at work trying to humiliate the Emperor, his team and our nation! He did not succeed. Despite facing a drugged up the dishonourable Pinuyi team who were supported by bribed match officials and violent supporters, the Empire's team fought valiantly until the very end! Again against the illegitimate nation-team of Kynystan our team faced steep odds due to the acts of Kernansquillecans spies and influencors. But did we surcome? We did not! The Emperor's team is surviving still and will qualify and win the Baptism of Fire no matter what the Green scum try to do!

Our fight is real! Be it abroad where the Greens try to humiliate our talented sportspeople, or here at home where spies attempt to pervert our society. We must cleanse ourselves! Together, as one! Denounce those who participate and support dishonourable activities! Claim your public support to the glorious and eternal Empire! Show the Green scum of the southern lands that we, Uzekia, shall never be silenced or defeated! We shall fight on until the Emperor's forces triumph once again and raise the Uzekian flag over the burnt remains of the infidels! That, citizens of Uzekia, is our goal and your duty! Defend your nation! Defend your family! Defend your Emperor!

PREPARING FOR LIBERATION: A FIVE STEP GUIDE

Not all peoples have the honour and privilege to be chosen by God to be Uzekians. Becoming a citizen of the Empire may be the dream of many around the World, but until the Empire liberates you, there are things you can do! We at the Glory to the Empire known that many citizens around the World look to us for guidance and we want to make all foreigners know and understand how to be good citizens of Uzekia, so that your integration into the Empire may be as smooth as possible. Here's our five step guide to get you on the right track.

1. GLORY TO THE EMEPROR
The Emperor is the supreme being and leader who was chosen by God to lead Uzekia to glory and to unite all citizens of the World under the prosperity and order of the Uzekian Empire! The Emperor is all-knowing and all-powerful. He does not make mistakes, he does not need advising, he is not to be questioned. The Emperor is God's incarnation on Earth. He is the person who ensures unity, peace and order and he is the leader who will ensure our survival against the forces of evil. Anything the Emperor says becomes law. Breaking the Emperor's law results in death.

2. DEATH TO KERNANSQUILLEC
No region in the World has as many infidels as Kernansquillec. The land of green must be exterminated and wiped from this Earth. The southerners are always trying to destroy the Empire but always fail. They are sly and deceitful, playing tricks upon the weak and giving false promises to those who don't understand the glory of the Empire. They, and all things green, must be wiped from history.

3. YZY, THE ONE TRUE GOD
Praize be upon Yzy, the almighty one, the holy one, the one true God! He choses the Emperor of the blessed land, Uzekia, and intends for us to lead to World to order, peace and prosperity. All those who go against Yzy, go against Uzekia. All those who go against Uzekia, go against Yzy. All those who go against either or both must be destroyed. Even if they are not, hell awaits these infidels who dare not believe the word of God upon this Earth, the Emperor, or of God himself! All true Uzekians believe and worship Yzy. You should too!

4. SPREAD THE WORD!
Any true Uzekian is proud to be so! If you want to be a part of our master race, you must become like us, accept our way of life and make those around you follow it as well! Only once we are united as one in harmony and peace can we truly appreciate the might of the Emperor and of Yzy! Spread the word thoughout your nation! Make people support Uzekia and become believers! Fight and kill those who refuse!

5. SUPPORT THE EMPIRE!
As a result of the deception of the Kernansquillecan infidels, multiple illegal trade sanctions and blockades have been placed upon Uzekia! Together as one we can overcome these unjust actions. Those responsible shall burn, but to make them burn we need your help! All ressources you can spare should be directed towards Uzekia! If you are unable to help, it's because you are unwilling! All those who want to help can and will. Not supporting Uzekia makes you an infidels and a traitor! Don't end up like the Kernansquillecans who shall burn in the ruins of their own cities before burning for eternity in hell! Save yourselves by helping Uzekia rid this Earth of green!
Glory to the Empire! Death to Kernansquillec!

Pre-match press conference of Vyacheslav Frolov

Irina Vereshchagina, "FootballNews24.com": Mr Frolov, some commentators say that our style of game may be too out-dated and strict to compete against Amazonestan "samba style". What is your opinion?

Frolov: Well, I know that everybody loves a game that is beautiful to observers but for us, managers, it's all about efficiency. My number one priority was to create a disciplined team focused on achieving aims - and good tactics is central in this plan, although I know it may be less fascinating for fans than "samba style". I've seen hundreds of matches where favoured by media teams prefering "happy footbal" - joga bonito - were utterly defeated by cold tactics. It doesn't mean I am promoting a boring style - I just leave the visual part of the game to individual players. In the end, it's the result that matters.

Eduardo Garrincha, "The Amazononian Observer": Amazonesta is known to have very skilled players. Which one should the Arioslavian team fear most?

Frolov: We treat our rivals teams as a whole so I wouldn't like to talk about it. But yes, you have great players. Omar Falcone is your star but we can't focus on one man. We must be ready to face 11 players, not an individual, no matter how good player he is.

Garrincha: Speaking of individuals, what's Alexander Artyomov's role in Sborna?

Frolov: He's an important player and I think he's playing a great tournament.

Thomas Williams, "Soccer Daily News": What result do you predict?

Frolov: I'm not a soothsayer or an oracle to make predictions. Thank you. I have a lot of work.

Oisinistan News

The nation is in shock and horror today as Whovian Tardisia defeated the team from Oisinistan today. It was ahorrific 1-0 victory as Cuthbert Jack scored the winning and only goal of the match.

Oisinistan are in shock. What an absolute s***ter of a game. We need another win to get into the next round, so let's hope we get into the next round in our match against Quazar Zap or whatever they're called.

A tedious game against Quazira, which lacked any determination or passion from either side, ended with a poor 0-0 draw.

Both teams seemed to lack any drive, or passion, in a boring game, which sees the group remain open for anyone to take. Quazira, who was hoping to take a victory today to guarantee progression to the next round, has walked away disappointed from this match, having to face the other tournament hopefuls, Oisinistan, in a final day game which may decide the group winner.

After taking the group lead in a game against Whovian Tardisia, which saw them beat Tardisia 2-1, they were hoping to cement their position at the top of the group stages, and eliminate Ethane from the tournament, but the Ethane team held on throughout the full 90 minutes, with a very aggressive game play, which saw both teams pick up 1 point, meaning that all the group teams need to perform well in their final group game to proceed into the rest of the tournament.

''All In or Nothing''
All games in the group will be ''all in or nothing'' in the final matchday, with no one team secure in progression or elimination.

Quazira and Oisinistan will face it off in duel for progression, with both teams vying for a chance to win the group, and further their progression in this tournament. Quazira and Oisinistan will have a tough game against each other, potentially being the most exciting game of the final group stage matchday, in the most exciting group, as everyone is still in with a chance.

Oisinistan have shown that they can perform when the performance is vital, with a tight 1-0 victory over Ethane on the first match day, but then went on to lose against a strong Whovian Tardisia team. With a brilliant striker in Strenmann, and a solid backline, the Oisinistani's will be hoping to make their mark on this tournament, with a solid win against Quazira.

Quazira, in a slightly better position to progress than any of the other teams, due to their win and draw, Quazira will be going into this game with their morale high, hoping to secure their position in the next stage of the Baptism of Fire. Playing a completely aggressive game, they will be looking to pound Oisinistan into submission. With a strong striker in Florence Marino, and a solid midfield, Quazira will be looking to snatch the victory, and guarantee their progression, while knocking Oisinistan out of the tournament.

Ethane and Whovian Tardisia will also be duelling it off to gain progression to the next round of the tournament. Both teams, fielding a selection of strong players, will be looking to leapfrog one of the nations in the other game, and take the first or second placed position in the group.

Whovian Tardisia will be looking to dominate against a underperforming team to gain the 3 points, and leapfrog one of the other nations. While their squad size may be a hinderance, they will be looking to take advantage of Read English's skills to score the necessary goal to win the game.

Ethane will also be looking to leapfrog 2 nations, after the turmoil that started of their tournament campaign. Margaret, the editor at a major newspaper in Ethane, has said that ''Ethane's chances look very slim, but as long as they beat Whovian Tardisia, then they are in for a good shot at progression. It would be preferable for the team if Quazira were to win, because this would mean that the game does not rely on goal difference. They need a win from this, or it is all over for them.''
Esportivan and Proud.
<drawk> If the entirety of the nation of Ethane was covered in a single cubic foot of Ethane on its surface, lighting it all on fire would cause a 5.44 megaton blast.
Best WorldVision Finish: 2nd. Best World Cup Finish: Quarter-Finals. Best KPB Rank: 8th. Best WBC Finish: 1st.

Postby Ferret Civilization » Wed Jan 20, 2016 3:23 pm

It was their final qualifier game, and they actually had a chance to prove themselves as good among the newcomers. Given the way things were all they had to do was win, and they were sure that they had a chance to at least try and do a little better in the games than most of their counterparts, especially given how everyone here was new to this event too. The games continued to pick up in pace, with each one being faster than the last, which wasn't going to work for the Ferret team. While they still had a chance given the way the scores were, it was incredibly difficult for them to do. They only managed to score two points, while their opponent had managed to do the same by simply kicking the ball way over Sakke and into the goal.

Though Kristoffer and Bjørn, with a lot more difficulty, used the same size difference to their advantage too by kicking the ball under their goalkeeper. Elis was also able to figure out what Kristoffer had meant by figuring something out, as long as the other team members didn't go for a long kick they could use their size to their advantage by going under and in between the opponents team's legs. Though at considerable risk, the first time he pulled it off he had to take a moment to give a small celebratory cheer for the success of just pulling that off. Though in the end those were just small advantages, while the other team still used their major ones, mostly being able to get the ball around and across the field fast. Then they were also able to figure out that they could prevent the Ferret team from getting any defense by doing just that, and that was it, the other team was able to get the final goal against them. And even though they tried, they were unable to win or even tie the game after that. So the other team was able to win, which meant they lost, and would not be able to go on.

"Well, that's depressing."

"What can you do about it, sports just is not our thing yet, and probably never will be. At least we came in third in our group, better than last, and we didn't lose by as much as some of the other team game's have gone."

"Yeah, but isn't that the way it always is."

"And that's the way it's always going to be for us, just take what you can get. The other Ferret teams have, at least now we can watch the other teams play and try and learn something, see the sights of all the places now, say hello to some friends, who knows. Just try to have fun with it, you did during the games."

"Yeah, always got to look up."

"What else can we do here, heh."
Currently traveling across the United States. Still up for any conversations though.
