OWNER VS THE WORLD
If you wish, you can base your RPs on a specific player on your roster. From there, I will select a team of players from the world to play a game against the Swordean starting team. The team will be chosen depending on how you write the RPs; a sentence like "yay Geoge Hill got a goal today and we won hoot hoot" would not be something I'd consider.

Who knows? This will be the first WJHC campaign for new head coach Paul Saxton, who was brought in to avoid a repeat of the WJHC 9 fiasco. Saxton, a 46 year old former defenseman out of Galturin, Kaboomlandia, is the first foreigner to coach in Novaya Zemlya.
Preparations have been comprehensive compared to last time. The hockey federation arranged a selection camp in early November to give Saxton a look at the best junior players in the country.
We don't know a whole lot about Saxton's coaching style, but the fact that he was in charge of Kaboomlandia's lethal power play at the 27th World Cup of Hockey is reassuring.

What about the team? There are 12 players returning from the WJHC 9 squad. Saxton has decided to put his three best offensive weapons on one line: Foma Khabalov, Zigurds Zimulis and Evgeni Bespalov are all prominent Elite League players and will be heavily relied on. Defense, on the other hand, is looking somewhat questionable on paper.
Unlike last year, there is a clear-cut #1 in net: Maksimilian Skryabin led his club Zvezda to the NZ Division II championship and promotion to the Elite League, earning a Playoff MVP award in the process.
Another player who might be worth watching is 17 year old centre Valeri Kalagin, who is coming off a 109 point season in juniors and is the most hyped prospect in recent years.

The legends told of dimensions other than our own, where the gods did not play such an active role in the affairs of man. According to one legend, we were saved from a dying world, destroyed by godlike men who controlled weapons of unfathomable power that could destroy an entire civilization in a blink of an eye. But none living had ever been outside of our world and many had come to believe that these tales were nothing more than myths. Until, that is, the High Sorcerer of Ilyseum discovered a way to cross into other dimensions.

As news of this discovery spread, the Senate of Ilyseum began deliberating as to whether its use was acceptable. Finally, after some consultation with Pronto, the god of travel, interdimensional travel magic was declared permissible for mortals, under limited circumstances. Those who improperly used such magic, however, would face the wrath of Pronto himself. Unrestricted travel between the two realms was simply too dangerous, even though the laws of our dimension prohibited the use of magic.

Within several months, the existence of competitive international sports in one such dimension, which bore a great resemblance to the one that the legends spoke of, came to the attention of the Senate. Upon learning that the World Junior Hockey Championships of that dimension was accepting entries, the Senate sent one on behalf of Ilyseum. Remarkably, their World Cup of Hockey Federation accepted the entry of a nation that did not exist in their dimension and Ilyseum was set to participate in their first competitive sports tournament.

Throughout the realm, the legions conducted a search for the most capable hockey-playing lads in the land and eventually settled upon 12 young lads. Guðfriðr Llyr was selected to coach the team. Guðfriðr had become famous as the finest hockey coach in Ilysea. His teams had won more tournaments at the Ilysea Amphitheater than anybody else. For several months, he coached the young lads together as a team, before their first test, which would be in a tournament held in the Eternal Capital against older and more experienced competition.

As they stepped onto the concrete and put on their skates, Coach Llyr's team started slow, conceding 2 goals within the first 5 minutes of their opening round match. However, their chemistry grew as the match went on and they managed to take a goal back in the middle of the second period as Thor Brynjarr put a slapshot past the opposing goalie. Conchobhar Somarliðr would equalize early in the third period on a controversial goal that led to a bench-clearing brawl. The fans cheered wildly as the hockey players put down their sticks and started throwing kicks and punches at one another, as if they were competing in pankration. The referee, per custom, did not intervene until tempers settled and the match could resume. The juniors went on to win, igniting a remarkable run that would see them win the entire tournament.

After witnessing the team's victory at the Amphitheater, the Senate voted to permit their matches at the World Junior Hockey Championships in The Sword Bloke to be recorded on spheres, to be shown at amphitheaters throughout the realm. When the time came for their opening match to start, the players were dressed in their loincloths and skates as a sorcerer teleported them to Bloodefus Royale Constant Arena in the city of Bloodefus. They arrived in this far away realm just minutes before the match was scheduled to start. As the match was about to start, the Ilysee squad was left wondering why it was so cold and why the surface they were standing on did not feel like regular concrete...

THE SELECTION

Manager: Chris "Jedi" Jedzejcyzk, the manager of HNK Southern, a highly successful hockey team from Sudens City, Armeia. 38 years old and a former player for HNK Cora City.

Goalkeeper: Nineteen year old Eliska Andres will be leading both the junior team and leading her pro team into the AHSL playoffs. The reigning AHSL goaltender of the year is the youngest to win that award, in addition to being the starting keeper of Southern.

Defenseman: Rehor Havel, another high ranked nineteen year old prospect. Good physicality as he stands at 6'7, and his best strength is marking opponents. He plays for Atlas HC, the twelve time national champs, and is the youngest player on the senior squad.

Defenseman: Drahomir Mali, a eighteen year old who's a decent two way defender. Good on one timer shots and zone marking, and he played for Southern's junior team before going abroad to Abanhfleft to play for the Deathsticks. The tallest on the team at 6'10.

Left Wing: Ryo Himura, Atlas's nineteen year old winger that surprised critics with his performance in the league.

Right Wing: Oliver Martinik, winger for junior team Harlequins. Somewhat of a youth league star. Extremely fast and very good acceleration, lacks close range finishing and composure when heading in on goal. Led Harlequins in assists last year, seventeen years old.

Center: Sabina Jezek, a physically imposing brawler. Seventeen years old, she formerly played for Harlequins, and stands at 6'8 and a half inches. Gets in foul trouble though, and not a good passer. Extremely deadly long range shooter though, and somewhat dirty on the defensive end. Now a pro player for Southern.

The Ilysee hockey players opened the World Junior Hockey Championships with a match against a team from Frenline Delpha whose roster was a mystery. In fact, only 3 of the 24 teams announced their rosters prior to the first matchday. Of the Ilysee team, only the coach had ever seen ice before. Guðfriðr Llyr had been part of a military campaign of reprisal against one of the barbarian tribes to the north. A few barbarians had been caught crossing the border into one of the realm's northern provinces whereupon they looted the fields of farmers. This could not be permitted to stand, so a legion was dispatched to the north to teach the barbarians a lesson.

During that campaign, the legion had to march across a sheet of ice. Guðfriðr could still remember the horrifying sight of a dozen of his fellow soldiers falling into a frozen river after part of the ice had broken under pressure. Ever since then, he had been terrified of ice and he had never expected that hockey, in the other dimension, would actually be played on ice! The thought just never crossed his mind, as ice was something that just didn't exist in Ilysee lands.

After the gods saved some people from a dying dimension, most sports were passed down in some form or another. While ice doesn't exist in the part of the new world that would become Ilyseum, the people who came to populate our lands still remembered the sport of hockey, which was passed down in almost completely intact. The one big difference was the absence of ice in Ilysee hockey.

In that context, it was evident that the Ilysee should have been at a disadvantage against Frenline Delpha. However, that was not the case in the slightest. Their skates proved to be just as effective on the ice as they were on concrete and Ilysee lads were used to harsh conditions. Even the extreme cold of an ice hockey arena wasn't enough to phase them. Wine Caratacos won the opening faceoff and, moments later, would set up a Guðbrandr Beorhtsige goal that put Ilyseum in front early. Later on in the first period, Caratacos would score a goal of his own on an assist from Hallþórr Kay.

Ilyseum would secure the match in the second period on 2 goals by Thor Brynjarr. With a 4 goals to none lead, they soon began focusing on protecting their lead rather than expanding it. Although Frenline Delpha would score a consolation goal in the third period, the match had already been decided. Ilyseum had won their first World Junior Hockey Championships match. Yet, even after that match, they still had no idea whom they would be facing on the second matchday. As the match ended, all 12 players and their coach returned, through a portal, to Ilyseum, where they would stay until it was time for their next match to commence...

FNSN.fc Ice Hockey: Aleixos shoots down Sunrise Islands!

At today's U20 World Hockey Championships, Ficiscia's youth team took down the United Sunrise Islands with a 0-3. The hero of the game was Manuel Aleixos. The 20 year old playing in the Campionatum for the Province of Orientalis scored two goals and assisted a third one in an incredible effort by the winger. Marcus Hephastius (19/FUL), one of the best goalkeepers in the nation despite his young age, played superb in his first ever international game and celebrated a shutout. But let's start at the beginning. The Ficiscian first line has been named one of the best of the tournament, with wingers Janus Ducantus (19/FOV) and Aleixos and center Thorvall Norrstrum (20/MUL). They started the match with the quick, aggressive play that Yurakin, the Novozemlyan coach of the team, wished to see and almost scored after 24 seconds. Hephastus wasn't needed in the beginning, until he made a big save in the first Islanders powerplay. In the first period, Ficiscia played much stronger and outshot the Islanders with 4-11, but failed to score a goal. Ducantus had hit the post, but not more resulted.

The second period opened with a bang. Norrstrum passed the puck out to Aleixos, whose one-timer was rebounded by the Islanders goalkeeper but fell onto the stick of Norrstrum. After Norrstrum's shot was blocked, a pushing and fighting started after which a total of thirteen penalty minutes was issued and the game continued with 4 vs 3. Ficiscia used that time well and played strong, a shot from Linicius Quintilii was deflected by Karus Niskros and bounced off the post, onto the stick of Aleixos and into the goal! Manuel Aleixos' goal put the Islanders into a situation in which they had to attack more, opening counter opportunities for Ficiscia that were used in the 34th minute. Ducantus played a long pass onto the stick of Aleixos, who passed over to Norrstrum and the Norja center shot the puck into the goal to the 0-2. Just before the buzzer, Berjaman almost scored again, but his shot was saved in a miraculous move by the goalkeeper.

In the third period, it was again Aleixos' time to shine right after the puck dropped, but the winger was a bit too confident and failed to convert in a breakaway when he tried to trick his way past the goalkeeper instead of a shot. The Ficiscian squad seemed to save energy, relying on its speed and counter chances that were saved by the keeper - or by Ficiscians who wanted to score too spectacularly. It needed another powerplay for Ficiscia to score, and it came in minute 47. After 1:22 in the powerplay, the USI squad was tired by the long penalty killing shift and couldn't react to the quick passes anymore. Two laser passes from Ducantus to Berjaman and from there to Aleixos later the box was out of position and Aleixos' one timer slapshot was enough to beat the goalkeeper for a third time. Not much more happened in the remaining ten minutes and Ficiscia took home a 0-3 victory over the United Sunrise Islands.

UNITED SUNRISE ISLANDS 0-3 FICISCIA (0-0, 0-2, 0-1)

SCORERS: 22' Aleixos 0-1 (Niskros, Quintilii/2x Penalty USI; Penalty Norrstrum!); 34' Norrstrum 0-2 (Aleixos, Ducantus); 49' Aleixos 0-3 (Berjaman, Ducantus/Penalty USI)
PENALTY: 9x 2 min USI; 6x 2 min + 1x 5 min (Norrstrum) FIC
SHOTS: USI 14 - 33 FIC

THREE STARS:
*** #14 Manuel ALEIXOS (FIC / 2 G, 1 A)
** #77 Janus DUCANTUS (FIC / 0 G, 2 A)
* #30 Marcus HEPHASTIUS (FIC / 14 shots, 100% saved)

I somehow expected the cutoff to be 24h later... roster will be up ASAP. If I include a modifier now, would you still change it? If yes, we'd play with +2.

Playing on home ground in a tournament filled with some minnows isn't something to take lightly. For the Swordeans, it's fun to beat minnows. And we were up against a decent one in Kaboomlandia in the first game of the WJHC tournament at the Owner's IceFields. With a team of 'minnows' as Shop a Owner often says about most teams, the Head Gnashers were a good chance to win, the crowd filled with red and white boomsticks being banged by Swordean fans.

And it seemed like an easy victory for the Swordeans. Thanks to some injuries, James Rodman was the one at the opening faceoff and started skating straight off amongst the Swordean cheer.
Just a couple of minutes later, it was Rodman who then set up a Craig McAloney goal, putting the Swordeans up 1-0. McAloney pointed to the sky, in remembrance of Luke, the brother of the 6'10 Rodman, who died while fighting against Volcanoc days earlier.

So then the Swordeans tried defending well. They did this into the second period, until Ryan Ledenberger got the first goal for the Kaboomlandians, with an embarrassed Christopher Police left ruling what he could have done; Police is 7'1, 1'1 taller than Ledenberger, Police being arguably the tallest player in the tournament, while teammate Rodman is second at 6'10. The Swordean side are quite tall; their average height is 6'3, with their smallest player (Adam Brendalla) being 6'1.

Anyways, back to the plot; The Swordeans then protected the goal-line, with Police then doing a fantastic job, saving 11 shots from the goal until the end of the period. However, that couldn't stop Police from being injured in a courageous save, when Kennedy Linden tried getting a bit of a high shot in, before the puck appeared to strike past Police's Stomach. Police didn't feel well, with medical staff ruling him out until game 4 of the group stage.

With the game at 1-1 with one period left, it was time for a team to dominate; and that team would be the Swordeans. Backup goalie Timothos 'Timmy' Arithmos went in, and Arithmos turned out to be the driving force behind the Swordean victory.

With just 22.5 seconds left in the game, Arithmos passed over to Dill Whiteside, who went straight off the stick to Tim Stokes, who went to James Rodman, who went back to Whiteside. With 9.2 seconds left, Whiteside went over to 'Babe' Ruddie, who quickly went to a forward going Luke Buskett, who passed to George Mikhail with 3.4 seconds left.

Mikhail then boomed it into the net on the final siren. His teammates started celebrating with him, Mikhail giving the game puck to a trading card company. The Swordeans had defeated Kaboomlandia, literally on the final second. This was just going to hopefully be the start of a paved path for the Swordeans to win Group A and eventually the Championship. Though the players were just 18 and 19, their game made Wayne Gretzky want to take performance enhancing drugs.

Next up the Swordeans have The Royal Kingdom of Quebec, who have a ghost roster. The game should be a good one against the nation who have often won WCOH tournaments, such as this one before. These players who the Head Gnahsers play against could be the next WCoH winners, so we shouldn't take this lightly. We should win, though.

OwnerWowCucumberAid Man of the Match: Christopher Police Sure, he only played 2 periods, and sure, he'll be embarrassed by the goal he conceded, and sure, he'll be out till Game 4, but the tallest player of the tournament is the best goalie in the tournament. He made some saves against a Kaboomlandian attack that really did try to take their chances. Even with his injuries, he should be a good chance to win tournament MVP.

It's not the brightest of starts with a 1-0 loss to Devonta, but there's still a lot of games left to play. There's still a chance for Abanhfleft's young hockey players to finally get that trophy.

Phoenix drop opener to Swordeans

It was a hard-fought game, but a final-second goal by George Mikhail lifted The Sword Bloke over the Kaboomlandian team 2-1. The start for the Kaboomlandians in net went to Kenny Baker, who backed up Lyle Mace last time out (but did not play). The game started badly for the Swordeans, as a bad penalty by defender Jaden Bell led Craig McAloney to score a power-play goal from a pass behind the goal line to open the scoring. The Phoenix would strike back, though, as Ryan Ledenberger took a breakaway pass from David Allen and faked Christopher Police to the ground before scoring in the second period to tie the game. Late in the second period, though, Police was injured when a high, hard shot from Kennedy Linden hit Police in the stomach. He went down hard, left the game, and did not return. He is projected to be out until the fourth Swordean game of the group stage.

In the third period, the game remained close until late in the third period:

"Martin shoots the puck in behind the net, Timmy Arithmos out to play it. He drops the puck off for Dill Whiteside. Whiteside head-mans it for Tim Stokes who goes to James Rodman, who gives the puck back to Whiteside streaking up the wing. Whiteside will play it up to Babe Ruddie, who redirects to Luke Buskett. Two-on-one for the Swordeans with time running out. Strachan is back. Buskett across to George Mikhail...SCORES! SCORES! The Sword Bloke scores in the final seconds! Baker is down on his knees! The Phoenix can't do it!"

Next up for Kaboomlandia is Armeia, who lost their debut 1-0 to Pittasbria.

OOC: Looks like I missed the schedule... At least I now know who I'll be playing the next 3 matchdays. ;)

The portal opened and the team from Ilyseum reappeared in Bloodefus Royale Constant Arena as their match against Gim was about to start. Once again, their opponent's roster was a total mystery. 4 additional teams had announced their roster prior to the second matchday but none of the other teams in Group D had announced their roster as of the second matchday. Back in Ilysea, the Senate was deliberating regarding the merits of using black magic to turn sports officials who refused to name their rosters into toads. Fortunately for them, they decided against it on the grounds that magic may not work in Other Reality.

The match against Gim proved to be just as much of a walkover as the match against Frenline Delpha had been. Sindri Njáll scored a hat trick and Thor Brynjarr added 2 goals of his own. Gim did little of note and actually failed to get even a single shot on goal during the first period. A mismatch like this just wasn't interesting, so our tale for today will focus on something else.

As the Ilysee team returned through the portal, they arrived home just in time to see the big pankration fight between Þórleifr Haerviu and Knútr Gandalf. Haerviu had been the Heavyweight Champion in the Eternal Capital for the past 7 years, having defeated all comers. In the past year, however, the outspoken Gandalf had become one of the most popular fighters in the city. Gandalf had made a name for himself by trash talking his opponents in the build up to his fights and correctly predicting exactly how and when they would fall. In the buildup to this fight, Gandalf had told interviewers on the sphere that he would knock his opponent out with one punch.

This was widely believed to be impossible. There was simply no way that the most dominant champion in the past hundred years would fall so easily. As the fight was about to begin, Gunnar Wulfsige asked the champion for his thoughts on his opponent and the upcoming fight. Haerviu responded, as usual, with few words, "I'm going to shut his mouth permanently." As the champion finished speaking those words, Bláthnat Guðlaug began singing the challenger down to the cage in the center of the Amphitheater. Gandalf entered surrounded by his entourage to thunderous applause from the crowd, eager to see whether their hero could back up his talk.

As Gunnar Wulfsige introduced both pankratiasts, a sorcerer checked to ensure that neither man had used any prohibited magic to gain an unfair advantage over his opponent. Once he was satisfied that no such spells had been used, he gave the signal to start the fight. For a moment, both men stared one another down. Then, Gandalf landed a left hook on his opponent. Just as he had prophesied, the champion fell to the ground. Knútr Gandalf rushed to finish off his opponent and within moments the referee had called the fight. There was a new Heavyweight Champion and his name was Knútr Gandalf.

Following the fight, Gunnar Wulfsige interviewed the new champion. Gandalf declared, "I told you I would knock my opponent out in one blow and, by the graces of the gods, I have done so. Now, I want to declare that I will successfully defend my title against anybody, anywhere and at any time! I want there to be no doubt that I am the best not just in the Eternal Capital but in the entire world. Now, I think it is time to get the women and wine for a feast in honor of the god of wine! Alcoholia, I dedicate my victory to thee!" Wulfsige took a moment to remind the spectators to attend the upcoming blitzball tournament before several members of Gandalf's entourage brought out enormous quantities of wine as the capacity crowd at the Amphitheater began to rush the arena floor. That night, the Eternal Capital would be too busy partying with their new pankration champion to worry about anything else...

WJHC Report - Day 3
Anatoly Timofeyev reports live from the 10th World Juniors

KAWAKA, TSB Two games, two wins. The Novozemlyan WJHC campaign is off to a great start. The Disaster in Videnhagen, where the Pioneers lost the opener 8-3, feels like a very distant memory.

Bringing in a coach from abroad looks like a move that's paying off. Paul Saxton knows how to coach. The ting that stands out the most after 1-0 vs Gregoryisgodistan and 2-1 vs Unified Sunrise Islands is how Saxton has instilled a culture of hard work and discipline. You don't see wingers consistently cheat for offense like in the past, and there is some actual backchecking going on whenever we turn the puck over.

Image
Other than coaching, I've been impressed with Maksimilian Skryabin in net. You can see that the players trust him to make the routine stops, which he does. It means a lot when not every single mistake ends up in the back of your net, like it did last time in Vermark. Foma Khabalov is another player that really stands out so far. He looks like a man playing against boys right now, with a combination of size and speed that is really difficult to handle for defenders.

Elsewhere in Group C, we find some familiar faces. Bratislav Yurakin has found himself a new job, coaching the Ficiscians who have started out with two wins and look like early favorites to win the group, while our Arctic neighbours Alphatheta have won one and lost one so far.

As always during the World Juniors there are lots of draft and transfer rumors flying around. I hear Avangard and a couple of other Elite League teams are interested in Ficiscian captain Manuel Aleixos and will do their best to acquire him. Apparently Avangard staff visited Ficiscia already months ago to scout the talented right winger.

Tonight the Pioneers will face Levivania, a team that has lost two out of two so far. Looks like a very winnable game to me, Iet's say 4-1 Novaya Zemlya!

FNSN.fc Ice Hockey: U20 with Perfect Start

After a win against United Sunrise Islands, Ficisicia's U20 faced Levivania next. This match was expected to be a difficult one, given that Levivania came into the game with a 2-3 loss to Alphateta and was looking to take revenge after this loss, and losing with only one goal against Alphateta is something one has to do first. The Levivania team was at least not one to expect an easy win against. The team was completely unchanged, as Bratislav Yurakin didn't seem to want to choose his winning team.

At the opening faceoff, Norrstrum took the puck and instantly, the Ficiscians showed their strenghth: Speed and passing. The wingers placed themselves at the blue line and Berjaman shot a sharp pass down to Ducantus, who turned around a defender and passed over to Aleixos - whose one-timer ended in the catching glove of the Levivanian goalie. The keeper of Levivania was much needed in the first period, receiving 13 shots on his goal but stopping all of them. The best chances included a deflected point shot by Jonssenn and a deke by the incrdibly fast Andreios Rusus that suddenly gave him a breakaway, but Rusus shot the puck onto the crossbar. Levivania had chances especially in the powerplay, where they almost pushed a rebound over the goal line but Hephastius could sweep it off the line with his stick in the last moment.

The match remained fast and open. Ficiscia picked up some more speed in the second period and put pressure onto Levivania's goal, but again failed to get the puck past the keeper early on. Niskros failed to convert a pass into the slot and a dangerous shot by Petrus Arcius was accidentally blocked by a Ficiscian forward. The peak of bad luck was, however, reached halfway through the game. Sparti passed from behind the goal onto the stick of Marcus Licius, who was standing unchallenged three meters in front of the goal, right in the slot. But as he shot, Licius' stick shattered, sending the puck into the corner. Levivania's coach took his time-out in the second period when it looked as if his team would be shot out of the building, which showed its effects. They started to play more physical and aggressive, being able to launch counter attacks and endanger Hephastius' goal. But the 19 year old who finished his first Campionatum season as number 1 goalkeeper managed to stop all shots onto his goal again.

In the third period, it seemed as if Ficiscia felt the effects of their fast game and had to slow down a little. Nevertheless, the game was tight ad wide open. The chance for the nation came when a sharp pass of Berjaman found Aleixos, who pulled toward the goal and was hooked by his opponent, giving Ficiscia its fourth powerplay of the game. The powerplay was again efficient, quickly pulled up and looked good. Yurakin plays it in an umbrella formation with two forwards putting lots of pressure onto the goal, and that's what proved to be good again. Berjaman passed over to Ducantus, whose shot was rebounded by the goalkeeper but ended on the stick of Marcus Licius. The player from Lux scored what eventually proved to be the game winning goal.

Tomorrow, Ficiscia will play against the team of Alphateta, standing 1-1 after games against Levivania and a loss against Gregoryisgodistan. Thanks to the high victory against United Sunrise Islands, Ficiscia is currently leading the group in front of unbeaten Novaya Zemlya, the homeland of head coach Bratislav Yurakin.

I haven't got a hockey-related RP ready for the WJHC so enjoy this RP meant for the Di Bradini Cup before I got knocked out instead.

*Warning: All statements made by persons within this series are theirs and theirs alone, and do not reflect the views of the Fleftic Football Federations, its staff, coaches, players, and other affiliated personnel.

The Games of Their Lives, Part Five

Mabel Finnemark (#10, central attacking midfielder)

So that's it, then. We're out of the Di Bradini Cup once again.

You know what, ever since the tournament moved from rotating between Starblaydia and the Equestrian States to a two-time-straight hosting by Valanora, we've never been as lucky as we used to be. Still, it was Pasarga we were up against, but even then I really felt that we'd have a chance against them this time around. But not really. Sure, I managed to assist both Irina and the returning Kareem Dagen, but then that second-half was just a manic display of world-class quality from Pasarga. Just goes to show why they've been World Cup winners and we've barely had a sniff of the big one.

I'd already arranged for a transfer to Schottia and Cornellians F.C., their most recent champions and recently members of the now-defunct Multiverse Premier League. I feel inspired by the story of Cornellians; how they went from competitors in international football to newcomers to their country's own top flight and then winning said league in just their first season. Sure, this time around they've had to sell their big guns, but they're still a decent side even with their downsized roster, and it's an honor to now be playing with them and for them.

Of course fans of Rosenpfelblatz City know that that's not the only big transfer news going on with our club. Isa Tangemen, the Armeian keeper that saved our skins and actually helped us win back the Ladies' Premier League title in the recently concluded by standing in for the injured Yannie Redborne, was going back to her old club Southeastern on a season-long loan, in exchange for us signing their starting keeper, a woman named Mia Rojo. Looking up on her Youtube highlights, like everyone does in our technologically connected age, Rosen fans are in agreement that while she is a good keeper, she's not exactly deserving of the ten million per annum contract that she's currently got at Southeastern. I know that the club's been bought by the Sultan of Oontaz Dert Li Ng himself, Sultan Kudarat, but he's nowhere near as rich as Nikita Bellich, the Bellinsgauzenian oligarch that bought Sporting Ceneisis and turned them into title contenders alongside Riuwiee United, Arsenal de Releinthi and Malabon. I don't know how the boss is going to manage Rojo's contract with us, but I'm sure as hell that he won't give her two hundred thousand per week. We're not that rich, thank you very much.

Since Rosen's got two of their players leaving the club in the same week, the club captain, Alex Rousseau, a Fleftic international with a lot of goals to her name for both club and country, had decided to arrange a sending-off party for the two women leaving the club now that both of our teams had been knocked out of the Di Bradini Cup. It was just a small affair; Alex, Isa, me, Jeanine Stober, and Alex's strike partner Karen Villegas. Karen was one of the national legends for the under-21 players, having been one of the three prongs of our golden generation's attack, alongside Rory Edwards and Yoshinobu Mori. It's a shame that they're all now ineligible for the cup, but they're all doing well in the senior team, at least as far as I know.

Jeanine and I were in the bar of the hotel where the Fleftic team was staying in for the Di Bradini Cup. I had my smartphone out, and we were watching the video that Isa had posted on social media once her move back to her old club was made official. "I never knew that she spent time in the army and fought against communists," Jeanine said to me. "No wonder she was really rattled when Myra and Ellie went and talked praises on the CPDRA that night before we played Sarvus."

Everyone connected with Rosenpfelblatz City F.C. knew about that particular moment, that fateful night before the Ladies' Premier League game against Sarvusdalamoive Ladies F.C. While watching the Premier League Monday Night Football game between the male departments of Rosenpfelbatz City and Sarvusdalamoive, two Rosen Ladies players, Myra Elsasser and Ellie Sedgwick, had begun praising the work done by the Communist Party of the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft (hence CPDRA) right in front of Isa, whom no one at that point suspected had deep-seated emotions against the Reds. No one was really sure what had started it; just that Isa had stormed out of the bar and refused to talk to anyone else before the game against Sarvusdalamoive Ladies. That game eventually ended 3-0 in favor of the Pinks, with the visitors scoring thrice in the span of twenty minutes to put the result beyond doubt.

"What else to you expect from those two?" I said to Jeanine. "I know that Ellie's the daughter of the local CP leader in Rosenpfelblatz, and Myra's always kissing up to people like Ellie, trying to get on their good sides; it's sad, really. But still, I don't think they should've done what they did. It's a shame, really. If they had only tried to keep their mouths shut, Isa wouldn't have a reason to leave us."

"Also, have you seen those videos from Armeia's game against HUElavia?" Jeanine asked me. "I've got them here in my phone. Apparently it shows our golden girl Isa proposing to her teammate!"

"Proposing to her teammate?" I asked. "Isn't Armeia's team made up of all girls?"

"Exactly," Jeanine said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"'Tough luck, kid,'" a voice near the camera recording the whole thing said as we went through the clip. I don't know what Isa was thinking at that moment, but proposing to her teammate right when they had just lost a game, especially a crucial knockout game in the round of 16 really wasn't the best of decisions.

"Imagine that," I muttered. "Isa Tangemen, savior of Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies' 2015-16 season, is a lesbian."

"I knew it the first time I laid eyes on her," Jeanine said. "My nose can tell things like this." She even pointed at her nose to prove her point. "Ever since my brother and sister went out and admitted that they were gay and lesbian respectively, I've had this ability to sniff out the gays and lesbians I meet. I didn't say anything because I thought it might mess up everyone's opinion on her, but I guess that's beyond the point now."

"Speaking of, here they come now," I said as I noticed Alex, Karen and Isa coming into the hotel. I don't know how Alex managed to rope the Armeian into going along with her, but I'm not going to complain. The two of us are going off to different clubs, and this sending-off was an important part of the club life.

"Well, well, well, look like the gang's all here!" Alex said as the three of them took seats next to me and Jeanine. "How's everyone doing tonight, eh, girls?"

"Fine, actually," Jeanine replied. "Hey, Isa, I heard that your boy Drahomir Mali won the Finals MVP for the Deathsticks! He's been a real breath of fresh air for the team, and after being dead last this time last season. they're now FNIHL champions! It's an unbelievable turn-around, and Mali's played a big part in their newfound success!"

"I don't know how to say this, but while Mali is my countryman, he's not exactly my 'boy,'" Isa Tangemen replied to Jeanine's comment. "Besides, I'm not really in the mood to talk. My team's just lost in the round of 16 once again, and just when I thought things were turning round for me, I get rejected by the girl I love! I need a freaking drink."

"I don't think if this is the stuff that will work for you," Alex said as she reached for something inside her backpack, "but this is the only thing I've got that probably qualifies as 'strong stuff' for someone like you." She brought out what looked to be a tumbler of coffee from her bag and laid it down on the table. Karen opened it and took a sniff, and recoiled from what she smelled from within. "Ooh!" she said. "What is that stuff?"

"Coffee wine," Alex replied. "Others would call it kahlua, but really, it isn't. It's just some local stuff I picked up on the way to the airport. They customs people didn't even pay attention to it. So, Mabel, are you really sure about your move to Cornellians? I mean, Carlos is willing to offer you a bigger contract and appearances on the bench."

"Thanks, Alex, but no thanks," I replied. "I'm just a twenty-year-old quietly living her life as a professional footballer in one of the biggest clubs in the country, and we all know that I'll never be able to displace Elena fucking Migdvorak from her spot in the starting eleven unless someone does a horror tackle on her and all the others in the team ahead of me in the CAM position. Besides, I've already negotatiated a preliminary deal with the Schottians. They're already guaranteeing me a spot on the bench and even a start or two. Also, I think it's time for me to get a move abroad, get to learn the styles of the other countries. I'm basically spying for Abanhfleft now!"

"Just don't let it get to your head, Mabel, and you'll do well," Alex said as she poured her "coffee wine" into shot glasses that she had requested from the bartender. "Seriously though, Mabel, sometimes fame and success gets to your head a little too much. Keep yourself grounded or else you might find yourself going back much much earlier than you thought you would."

"Oh, come on, Alex, since when have I let my head grow big?"

"Since you scored that absolute belter against Arsenal away to them when you were standing in for Elena who was injured by that horror tackle from Chelsea of all people." Thinking back to that moment, maybe I did think myself to be the second coming of Allison Torres when I scored that long-range goal against Arsenal. But who wouldn't when you score from 40-plus yards away from the net?

"And you, Isa," Alex said, turning her attention to the Armeian. "Are you really going to try to get Southeastern to pay the future fee for you after you finish your loan?"

"It's the only way that I know that I can get back home," Isa replied. "Look, I know that you all think of me as the hero that saved your season and got you back the title, but I don't think I'll be able to get to the level that you girls operate with each other. Especially not with some of my teammates treating communists with... fucking respect and admiration. I can't handle being people like that. I just can't."

"I'm sorry that it had to end this way," Karen said. "I really am."

"Besides, you're getting a good keeper in Mia Rojo," Isa added. "She's one of the people that made me into the player I am today. You guys are getting someone just as good, if not better than Yannie in Rojo."

"I'm not disputing that she's good, Isa," Karen said. "But is she willing to take just half of the money she's earning from Southeastern? Because honestly, she's not good enough for two hundred thousand per week."

"And even if she does agree to take a pay cut," Jeanine added, "who's to say that she won't slip up in the LPL? With our luck she's probably going to concede a penalty and Victoria Carter ends up slotting past Rojo in the 90th minute. I wouldn't even be surprised if that happens."

"All right, girls, that's enough talking now," Alex said as she finished pouring the last of her coffee wine into the shot glasses. "Girls, take your glasses, raise them up, and listen to me." We followed as she said, taking our shot glasses and raising them up high.

"Look upon us, o great golden eagle on our breasts," Alex began, "and see that we have been faithful servants to your badge. We, the sisterhood of the gold and blue harpies, are here to celebrate the departure of two of our sisters to foreign lands in order to spread their wings and set their eyes on broader horizons. Gaze upon your loyal sisters and servants Mabel and Isa, who now depart for the shores of Schottia and Armeia in order to gain valuable experience in the pursuit of great football. Watch them, guide them in their journey, and may the blessings of goals, assists, clean sheets, appearances and caps rain down upon them. Now, sisters, let us drink in the golden eagle's name." Alex then tipped back her head and downed her shot of coffee wine in one gulp. The others, me included, did the same, and then we all put back the glasses bottoms-up on the table at the same time.

Some might call this kind of behavior and ceremony strange; cultish even. But for us it was just a part of being part of Rosenpfelblatz City F.C.

Phoenix win hard-fought game over Armeia

Against an Armeian team with only six players, Kaboomlandia's national junior ice hockey team got it done with a 5-3 win Sunday afternoon to move to 1-1 and second place in a competitive Group A. The Phoenix went with Drayden Thomas in goal, testing their options in the crease, and he played well stopping 28 of 31 shots. The player of the game for the Phoenix was 17-year-old winger Kennedy Linden, who scored a hat trick, including the winner midway through the third period:

"Sebastian Ridley feeds Linden, who slips it through the legs of Rehor Havel and Linden's away! Kennedy Linden in alone on the breakaway, shoots, SCORES! Kennedy Linden blazes in on goal and blasts the puck past Andres to put Kaboomlandia up 4-3!"

Linden is draft-eligible for the KIHL this year, and is one of the most highly touted prospects in the last few years for the Kaboomlandian league. Can he surpass the Zack Murray hype last year? We'll see.

Next up for the Phoenix is lowly Pittasbria, but they did beat Armeia 1-0 in Match Day 1, so this should be a good match.

Note: This RP takes place before the roster was selected for the Armeian team
Rookie - Part One

The arena was massive, one of the largest ones in the country. Scarborough, the ‘suburb’ of Loftus that was home to four million people was the site, Hockey Club Atlas was the owner. Armenian Telecoms Arena was what it was called, and for the eighteen year old boy who was walking towards the place, it symbolized that he had made it, made it through the youth system and into the big leagues.

“Have you ever been to the ATA before?” asked the man walking next to Ilya Koralov. Their outfits contrasted starkly, with the man wearing a suit and tie and Ilya wearing a track suit and a backwards snapback IK Southern hat.

“Nope, the only time I was in Loftus was for road games with Harlequins,” states Ilya, referring to the youth team that he had previously played for, the top developmental team in the country.

The man of course, was Rory Tielman, the head coach of the Atlas team that would soon be competing in the playoffs and looking for another championship. “You'll be impressed, most sources have ranked us as having the best facilities in the league,” Rory said as he unlocked a side entrance and motioned for Ilya to step inside.

They found themselves in a corridor, and Rory pointed the way to the locker room, which wasn't far away. “Welcome to the locker room, you have a locker over there to the left, with the other new signings.”

Ilya grinned, looking around the room that he had seen in photo but never in person. It was way bigger and more spacious than the one at Harlequins, the jerseys that hung there all looked freshly washed and the skates were all sharpened… In the corner, there was a bin with every type of stick imaginable, even the latest models. Nobody was in the room right now, everyone was at practice, but some of the players who weren't practicing today still had their jerseys hanging up. Ilya went to his own locker, and found his number eight jersey, picking it up and checking it out.

It was mostly red, with white stripes near the end of the sleeves, and white detailing, and it had the “ATLAS” wordmark emblazoned across the chest. Near the jersey is a pair of the famous black shorts that matched the design of the ones the Atlas football team wore. “Woah,” Ilya muttered, finding it hard to believe that these were his.

“Go ahead and get ready. I'll be at the rink, right down the hall, and you can meet the team,” said Rory, before walking out.

Ilya did as he was told, quickly getting changed into his new uniform and grabbing a stick before walking down the hall and out of the tunnel that led into the actual rink. The stands were empty right now, but the team was out already, working on a shooting drill.

Ilya recognized most of the faces, ranging from star winger Sebastian Holjmark to young prodigy Ryo Himura, and in goal he easily recognized one of the better keepers in the league, Kazmer Stozke. All of them are players that Ilya had watched on TV, and it was pretty surreal to be among them not as a fan but as a teammate.

“Listen up everyone,” shouted Rory, and the players stopped shooting and turned to him. “As you know, we’ve got a couple new signings to help with our playoff push! Ilya Koralov from Harlequins, Ashlee Jara from Monarchs, and Brenden Markel, from Central North Terrum High. I’m sure all of you know Ashlee from the Monarchs defense this season, but for Ilya and Brenden, this is their first time playing professional hockey. Make sure you help them settle in, and get them ready for the playoff matches coming up.”

“Welcome to the team, Ilya,” said Sebastian, skating over towards the taller center. “It’s nice to have a new center, we aren’t very deep at that position right now.”

Rory and the other coaches went to the sideline to look at the personnel at hand and then assigned them to teams for a five versus five scrimmage. “New kids, you’re on the red team. Let’s see what you can do with the other younger players against our vets.”

Ilya nodded and lined up for the opening face off. He was going against Marin Kristijan, a larger center who had held down the position of first line center for Atlas for the past few seasons, but fortunately, Ilya was quicker with his hands and he won the faceoff, passing to Brenden on the wing.

Ryo, the other winger, was motioning for Ilya to get forward, so he started a run towards goal, calling for the puck and receiving it, turning to prepare for a shot before…

Pow! Ilya nearly blacked out for a minute as he hit the ice, blindsided by Jara and knocked on his back. “What the hell just happened?” he asked, struggling to get back up after that rough hit.

“This is the big leagues,” warned Kazmer, taking off his helmet. “The players are faster. Stronger. Their instincts are better. The defenders won’t give you that much time, this isn’t junior hockey.”

“No beginner’s luck for me then,” muttered Ilya, spitting out blood on the ice as he managed to get up.

“You need to come out?” asked Rory, skating over to his players and checking out the situation.

“Yeah, let me just take a breather,” Ilya replied, skating to the sideline and climbing onto the bench. If only he knew how much the scout sitting on that bench would help his career down the road...
