ATP World Tour - News
Strong Lake Hai'lu'kai field competes for 3 spots at Tour Finals

The top players of the ATP World Tour return to Astyrian action in the Aurora Confederacy with the inaugural edition of the Lake Hai'lu'kai Open, held on grounds next to the beautiful lake itself. The city Lake Hai'lu'kai serves as the capital of the northern nation of the Aurora Confederacy, an Astyrian manufacturing power and home to the major automotive manufacturer Diamond Star as well as Genesis Aviation and Space Night Transportation. A large prize money purse as well as 500 ATP World Tour points for the champion have attracted a strong field to the tournament, in which 12 out of the 32 contenders are still in contention for the World Tour Finals at the end of the season.

In the singles draw, Cenial Masters finalist and ATP World Tour regular Botack Andiam headlines the field as the first seed. TOCAO semifinalist Ngurah Putra Muliawan of Pemecutan will hope to extend a stellar season with a run to the title, adding valuable points to his World Tour Finals bid. Andy Amada of Ceni also hopes to cap a stellar season; the 18-year-old reached his first tour final (Albergaria, l. to Romao) as well as his first Grand Slam quarterfinal (l. to Anderson) and two other World Tour semifinals (Neu Engollon, Santa Maria). New Oxford finalist and Cenian Open semifinalist Dewa Putu Adrian Putra, also of Pemecutan, hopes to extend his country's success on the World Tour with a good run at the tournament.

Rounding out the top 8 seeds are Astyrian hopes Aline Luiza Romao, Albergaria and Neu Engollon winner and Antillia and Carigrad semfinalist, and Marla Gerard, finalist at the TOCAO in Krytenia, as well as TOCAO singles champion Marisa Maradona and surprise TOCAO semifinalist Charles Sayer of the U.S. of Devonta. Other notable players playing in the draw unseeded are Santa Maria Open finalist Cenian Ciache Nagya (l. to Navsal), Costenho Amancio Raimundo Belo (Cadenza titlist, d. Dovan), and Neu Engollian Paul Quiront, all of whom are still in contention for the Tour Finals, albeit with a long shot. Riley Escobar and Marguerita Cho, both of the Andromeda Islands, dropped out of contention this week because they will not be playing in this tournament.

In the doubles draw, TOCAO champions and last year's World Tour Finals runners-up Leo Garry and Elizabeth Quehall headline the field as first seeds. The TOCAO runners-up, Komang Antari and Kadek Andreawati of Pemecutan, will also be hoping to secure a spot in the season-ending tournament and continue their good momentum. Third seeds are Ellela Thotan and Ciache Nagya, who reached the finals in Albergaria and Santa Maria earlier this year, who hope to regain some momentum after a disappointing third-set loss to Johnson and Lopez of the U.S. of Devonta. Fourth seeds are the up-and-coming Will Nolovor and Kell Korden, who have had a disappointing grass season (losing in the quarterfinals at New Oxford, the second round in Krytenia, and the second round of Kannap) and hope to win the title in order to increase their Finals chances.

"I think it's important for us to do well at these smaller tournaments," said Will Nolovor of the Nolovor/Korden duo. "While we've been doing well at the Grand Slams, it's kind of disappointing for us when we don't do so well in the Masters or in the Tier 2 tournaments." Kell Korden added, "We're definitely out to win the title here... I know it's disappointing to lose, and I'd like to end our season with a title or a good run at the Symphonian Masters coming up." Andy Amada told the ATP that it's been a good season so far but he aims for more. "I know that I've been having a good time at some of these smaller events on tour, these Tier 2 events. That's why I'm hoping to do well here in Lake Hai'lu'kai. But I know I need to do better at the Grand Slams and at the Tier 1 tournaments, so that's going to be my goal for next year."

The Path Of Silver

Say it quietly, but maybe, just maybe, Krytenia could have a presence at the World Tour Finals. Sure, it's not going to be easy, but this is Krytenian sport we're talking about. We never do things easy.

The presence in question is the doubles pairing of Owen Simmons and Perry Walsh. They've quietly come up the rails from their debut at the Electrum Slam, and after an excellent tournament in Emberton, have put themselves in the mix for the end-of-season spectacular.

Just don't mention the Kinterten.

Qualifying Statements

Krytenia will be represented in qualifying for both singles and doubles for the Lake Hai'lu'kai Open. Jeremy Metagne and Elizabeth Corbisieri, probably with one eye on the Olympics, will be up against pairs from Eastfield Lodge and Ethane. All eyes, though, will be on the Kinterten's surprise package. Sarah Dinsdale, at the tender age of fifteen, will be attempting to give the senior ranks a shake-up as she faces Aljaž Isaac of Eastfield Lodge and Acronius' Troy Lennox. She'll be hoping that her talents will shine through to the last thirty-two, where she'll join the likes of fellow teenager Jessica Moreaux.
"I revel in the nonsense; it's why I'm in Anaia."

Character 1- Samuel Terdon

''Welcome to Astyria. We hope you enjoy your stay with us. Remember, the Lake Hai'lu'kai open will be starting in 3 days, so expect it to be very busy during this period, and leave extra times for any journeys you have. Thank you for flying with us. Enjoy your trip.''
Samuel stepped off the plane, gazing at the large airport around him as he strolled through the arrivals lounge, to recollect his bag and go to his hotel. In the fading light, he could just make out one of the stadiums that was going to be used in the tennis tournament. ''How wonderful, it is so beautiful'' he said to himself, before walking through the security barriers and collecting his bag. As he walked out into the busy city, he saw the lake down at the end of the street, the evening sun glistening on the surface as it slid down slowly behind the earth. The sky was turning a pitch black from the red it was a minute ago. Samuel hailed a taxi to take him to the hotel he was staying in, the Aurora Inn. He couldn't wait to get to the tournament to see his favourite tennis players at such a prestigious event.

Character Two- Alisha Smite
She stepped off the coach into the fresh, breezy countryside air. The weather was perfect for a walk in the countryside, sunny with some beautiful, white clouds that were as fluffy as cotton wool. The trees were silhouetted against the side of the lake as she strolled along the bank, gazing into the unknown murky water. She hadn't been here before, it was her first time in Astyria, she had only come for the tennis competitions. She was a real avid tennis fan, following the national team all around the world, exploring different countries as she went. She attended every tennis game she could, she didn't like to miss out on anything tennis related.
She sat down on the slightly moist grass, next to the rippling lake, and gazed over at the stadium where the players would be competing. She was gobsmacked by the beauty of it. She had never seen anything like it, it was so big and colourful. Back where she lived, they hadn't really got into sports too much yet, so they had only just started building all these wonderful, large tennis stadiums. From her opinion, you can't beat a massive, beautifully sculptured tennis stadium with anything.
She heard the leaves rustling in the wind, and shivered as a gust of wind blew through the crisp, morning air. She hoped it would stay like this throughout the whole competition- glorious sunshine with a nice fresh breeze- perfect.

Samuel Hartnell
He was ready. After years of preparation, he was ready for his first international game. He had been training for years, getting up to the standard needed to compete at such a high level. All throughout his childhood, he had dreamed about being an international tennis star, and now, he could finally try to be one. He felt a lot of pressure, it was his debut, so he had to make a good impression on the management so that they would keep him in the roster for future events. But he felt it was his time. He was ready for it. Nothing was going to stop him now. Nothing could. He was determined to play.
Esportivan and Proud.
<drawk> If the entirety of the nation of Ethane was covered in a single cubic foot of Ethane on its surface, lighting it all on fire would cause a 5.44 megaton blast.
Best WorldVision Finish: 2nd. Best World Cup Finish: Quarter-Finals. Best KPB Rank: 8th. Best WBC Finish: 1st.

NIGHT BEFORE DAY ONE MATCHES

They were sitting on the bench at the club, one of a few indoor recreational health clubs with pools, racquetball and tennis courts in Lake Hai'lu'kai. The weather outside was the typical Arctic chills for this time of the year in Northern Lorecia in Astyria. In the court room, Thierry was drilling the ball against the practice wall. He had waited patiently as Marla Gerard and Lizbet wrapped up their light volley until he could get in to their court. The others the club had given over to their use were being monopolized by Alma Semmes, Dom Ripaldi and Danjiella Zovic.

A fan, the fourth one during their time there, had found them and proceeded to ask for autographs from both women. There were a surprising amount of Neu Engollian expats and visitors around the area, not to mention the other Astyrians that recognized them. A good amount were there just to attend the matches, along with the seasonal and year long residents that worked in the Auroran shipping, automotive and other industries. The Aurora Confederacy was not a densely populated nation, and so there were a good many migrant workers on visas, with a good representation from the Mederano Peninsula, where Neu Engollon was located.
After the fan left, Marla sighed.

Lizbet looked over her towel, dropping it from her face.
"Wish we had a private court? I know it’s hard to concentrate with fans constantly wanting to talk or take pictures..."

"No, it's not that. I don't mind really. I mean...I'm not you, Liz. You get that way more than me."

“You flatter me, Marla. It took me a long time to be at the point where someone even recognizes me off the court. It’s been a pretty recent phenomena, remember.” It had only been the past couple years that the NETC had allowed players onto the International circuit. Lizbet Rittenhaus had had a long domestic competitive tennis career before that mark.

“I’m going to miss doing this, Liz. Us, the girls. You, me, Danni, Alma. Who am I going to talk to? Who’s going to tell Paul to buzz off and get off our backs?”

“Ha! I think he’s wising up. Besides, you’ll have Alma and Danni still. Plus Thierry and Dom, we just have to make them stand up for themselves more. For me...I’m around, I’m not going anywhere. I just won’t be playing anymore. Don’t make it sound like I’m going to be locked up in a vault or have some kind of terminal disease...”

“Gosh, no! I know you’ll be around, but it’s not the same. Not like you playing with us, leading the team. The vet player will be Paul...urrghh!”

“Like I said, he’s wising up, coming around. Believe it or not, I had a decent talk with him during the Kinterten. I congratulated him on his success and wished him luck and he actually opened up to me of all people.” Paul Quiront had made it the farthest of any of the singles players, heading into the finals before losing steam and losing to his group, including Cenians Vales and Varalin, Britonisea’s Leo Garry and Pemecutan Muliawan in a 5 series round robin.

“Paul? Quiront?! Really!?”

“Yes. Really. He knows how he comes off...well, of course...and how everyone hates him. I think he’s softening a bit now, though. A few kind words and he really tried to reciprocate. We talked. Like it was normal. Like we did it all the time. About the tour, Masters...Look, just don’t shut him out. You don’t have to be his best friend, but, you know...Just try to give him some sympathy. He came from a pretty tough life and he’s a porcupine, but a softie inside. That misogynistic bullshit is just all part of his shield.”

“Meh. I think I’ll stick with Alma as a mentor, thanks.”

Rittenhaus laughed,
“Oh, he’s not mentor material by any means. I’ll agree with that, but he can maybe give you some surprising tips now and then. Just don’t shut him out. We need to stay a team, especially going into the final legs here of this year’s circuit. Any support we can give each other, the better. Especially considering the slips during TOCAO and Kinterten. We need to pick it back up.”

Gerard nodded in agreement.
“We did. I can’t argue there. I’m disappointed with myself, but I really want to reverse that.”

“We all do. Together we need to do that...As a team. I need to go out on a high note, Marla, and the team needs to really step up to be in a good spot for next year. Thank the Lord we still have a couple tournaments left to rack up the rankings.”

“Liz, I’m famished. Let’s go eat, eh?”

“Yeah...I heard from someone back home that traveled up here a few months back. They were recommending a great local place. All authentic Auroran food.”

“Great! Let’s try it. Maybe we can see if the team wants to go?”

“Yes. Now you’re thinking. We do need a team dinner before the matches tomorrow.”

The two women packed up their gear and headed for the hotel to shower up and change before going out for dinner. They texted everyone, who joined them within the next hour or so. Only Quiront declined, predictably.

Lake Hai'lu'kai Open - Friday, November 6 - Wednesday, November 11
Fans and tennis players alike have gathered at the Lake Hai'lu'kai Open Tennis tournament. With a full set of tennis players heading there, Ethane went into the tournament hoping to do well, but definitely as the underdogs. All the players arrived, knowing they would have to be on top of their form to qualify for the tournament and advance through, against the much stronger opponents of the more experienced nations. Most of these players are representing Ethane internationally for the first time, while for others, it is onlytheir second tournament after the Kinintern tournament in Kannap, where most of the players failed to go anywhere in the tournament. The most successful player there was Adam Samson, who has been bought to this tournament as the best tennis player in Ethane at the moment.

How does it work:
To qualify for the tournament, the player must come top of their group. There are 3 players in each group, and each player will play two 3- set games against the other 2 members of that group. 5 points are granted for a win. The top member of the group qualifies for the round of 32, and the other players are knocked out immediately. This is also how it works for the group doubles.

Days 1-3 (qualification)

Group 1: Singles
In group 1, Alice Curson was representing Ethane. After impressing nationally, and representing Ethane at the Kinintern tennis tournament, she came here hoping to consolidate her position in the team, by showing her strength as a tennis player and advancing in this competition. After her failure at Kannap, she came here knowing she had to impress, otherwise her place on the international tennis stage, representing Ethane, would be at jeopardy, as there were many people who could have taken her place here, but the Ethane Tennis Association showed trust in her ability to perform well, when she most needed to. On day 1, she had an important match against Estela Fenton- Millington (EFL), to see who would start off top of the group. Alice started off this match hopeful, but it was clear that she was much less of a good tennis player than her opponent. While taking it to 3 sets by destroying Estela in the first set 1-6, Estela managed to comeback as an ever exhausted Alice made mistake after mistake, granting the second set and third set to Estela 7-5 7-5. She was disappointed to have not won this game. ''I was in prime position to take that game after winning the first set by such a large margin, but I just didn't have the same stamina as Estela and tired out too quickly, which lost me the game.'' After this disappointing result, and the win for Estela against Livinia on Day 2, it became impossible for her to advance to the next round. Her loss against Livinia on day 3 puts her place in the team at risk.
Group 1 Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 Estela Fenton-Millington 2 2 0 4 1 +3 10 Q
2 Livinia Moore 2 1 1 2 2 0 5
3 Alice Curson 2 0 2 1 4 −3 0

Group 3: Singles
In group 3, Adam Samson, the best tennis player in Ethane, was representing Ethane. After his success at the National Tennis Finals in Ethane, and being the best player for Ethane in Kannap, he was looking to build on his national and international success with a good run here. With his place in the team the most secure, he was looking to consolidate his position further, and reinforce the view of him being the best tennis player Ethane has ever offered. While not needing to do well to keep his place in the international team, he came here wanting to do well, show his quality at tennis, and further the international recognition of himself as an upcoming star in the world of cricket. Being one of the youngest tennis players in Ethane, he was looking to advance his career, and set himself up for further future success here. On day 1, he won against Eliza Reusmann (SCH) easily, winning over two sets, with a 6-4 6-1 scoreline. This showed promise for the rest of the groups, but he would need to win his game against Roland Gervais (ACR) to qualify for the round of 32. He went into day 3, determined to win the game, as it was his only chance of qualifying. From the start of the match, you could tell Adam was at the top of his form, playing quality, fast paced serves, and catching Roland out at multiple points. He also went on to win this game in 2 sets, both sets the scoreline the same at 4-6 4-6. This meant that he advanced onto the round of 32, hoping to progress further in the tournament.
Group 3 Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 Adam Samson 2 2 0 4 0 +4 10 Q
2 Eliza Reusmann 2 1 1 2 2 0 5
3 Roland Gervais 2 0 2 0 4 −4 0

Group 5: Singles
Hollie Graton was representing Ethane in group 5. With her experience, this was expected by many to be one of her last tournaments for her on the international stage, before retiring to national tennis competitions and commentating. She was not the best tennis player Ethane had to offer, as her stamina wasn't that great, because of how old she was, but she showed promise at the Ethane National Finals, which gave her the place on the international team again, even with her age which had almost ruled her out of participating. She came into the tournament knowing she had to be playing at her best, as this, with other tournaments, was full of the world's best tennis players, all vying for the same thing. She didn't have a game on day 1, which left her watching Jill Walker (SCH) get destroyed by Sukaina Yunan (EFL). After this game, on day 2, Hollie played her game against Jill Walker, and lost the game in 2 sets, with the scoreline 3-6 3-6. This left questions over her head about whether she would be able to advance or not, as her performance against Jill was very poor, which suggested she wasn't at her best, and Jill, who she was beaten by, was destroyed by who she was going to face on day 3. However, determined to qualify, she fought throughout the third match. She knew that the difference in scores in this final match was all that mattered, and she had to win this match by a considerable margin to proceed. She showed her skill at tennis by going on to beat the person who was considered the strongest in the group by a considerable margin, with the set scores at 1-6 2-6. This score difference just gave her enough of a points difference to beat Jill Walker in the group, with the person who was considered to be the strongest player in the group considering the results on days 1 and 2 coming last. Hollie was relieved. ''I can't believe that. I came into this game, needing to win pretty much every game to have any chance of qualifying, and I left my opponent in the dust. This is the best I've ever played, and can't wait to participate in the round of 32.''
Group 5 Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 Hollie Graton 2 1 1 2 2 0 5 (G: 18-15) Q
2 Jill Walker 2 1 1 2 2 0 5 (G: 17-19)
3 Sukaina Yunan 2 1 1 2 2 0 5 (G: 15-17)

Group 7: Singles
The last singles player representing Ethane at the Lake Hai'Lu'Kai Open was Samuel Hartnell. Being the youngest professional tennis player in Ethane, he was seen as a wild- card coming into the tournament, as no one knew what he could truly do. He won the Youth National Tennis Finals in Ethane, showing promise, which was a major factor in the selection of him for this tournament. This was seen as a great risk, as many people thought he wasn't ready for the international stage yet. Not having a game on the first day, he watched as Abner Montgomery (ACR) beat Jim Cowie (SCH)in 2 sets- 3-6 2-6. This, and his successful result against Jim, winning in 2 sets 7-6 6-4, left Jim unale to qualify, and opened up the final day for an interesting final day qualification group match. Samuel went into this match knowing this was make or break, knowing that this match would either prove the critics right, or show them that they were wrong, and that he was ready to compete on the international stage. He came into the game seeming much more energetic than Abner, and with a much better mindset, which led to the 2 set defeat of Abner, with the scoreline at 4-1 1-6. Samuel was ecstatic about this result. ''I am so pleased about this result. I tried my best out there, and got the result I truly deserved, showing those doubters at home that I am ready for the international stage, and that I deserve to be here.'' He will be looking to continue his success at his first international tournament in the round of 32 stage, and proceed further into the tournament.
Group 6 Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 Samuel Hartnell 2 2 0 4 0 +4 10 Q
2 Abner Montgomery 2 1 1 2 2 0 5
3 Jim Cowie 2 0 2 0 4 −4 0

Group 4: Doubles
The only doubles team to be representing Ethane at the open, Newton Gray and Thomas Greene knew that their group to qualify for the tournament would be very difficult. Having Jeremy Metagne and Elizabeth Corbisieri (KRY) in their gorup suggested they would struggle to qualify. They were determined to show everyone wrong, but they knew they had a next to impossible task. In the day 1 match against the strong double, they showed that they had a chance in the second set, by pulling back after the disappointing result in the first set. The game did go down to the wire, and both teams were very closely matched after the first set, but KRY just had the upper hand in terms of being more experienced playing together, as the Ethane grouping was only together for about a year now. The results showed that the game was very closely matched, but Ethane just couldn't finish what they started, with the scores 6-1 5-7 10-8. The KRY team then went on to win the game on the second day, leaving the 3rd days game as just procedure to decide on second place, with no chance of either progressing. The Ethane double went into the third day with the complete wrong mindset, and couldn't get stuck into the game, suffering a humiliating loss to the other doubles team from (EFL), who outclassed them on every level. The Ethane double lost the game in two sets, with the score 0-3 3-6.
Group 4 Pld W D L PF PA PD Pts
1 Jeremy Metagne/Elizabeth Corbisieri 2 2 0 0 4 2 +2 10 Q
2 Giorgio Irani/Clementina Travers 2 1 0 1 3 2 +1 5
3 Newton Gray/Thomas Greene 2 0 0 2 1 4 −3 0

Singles: Round Of 32

(Q) Hollie Graton (ETN) 7 6
Jessica Moreaux (KRY) 6 4

Hollie Graton came into the round of 32 hoping to impress after her close shave in the group stages. After such a close group, many people wrote her off, suggesting that she wouldn't proceed very far, with her unable to dominate in the group. However, she proved all the pundits wrong, who suggested that Jessica Moreaux (KRY) was going to win. Going into the game confident, she manage to pull of a successful result in 2 sets. In the first set, she didn't get off to the best of starts, with Jessica breaking her first serve, and losing the second game, going 0-2 down in the first set. However, she managed to fight back, pulling the set back to 3-2. They both the continued to win their own serve games, and Hollie Graton went on to win the game first set 7-6, a close game. In the second set, Hollie showed her will to win much more, going on to dominate the set and win 6-4 with Jessica unable to pull back the broken serve game in the middle of the set.

(Q) Adam Samson (ETN) 4 3
Stephen Perez (KRY) 6 6

Adam Samson came into the game against Stephen Perez (KRY) the favourite to win, being the best tennis player Ethane has to offer. His aurora of confidence, however, was detrimental to the game, as he was not playing at the best of his game, due to him thinking he could win easily. He did fight well in the first set, but couldn't pull back from the broken serve game that he lost near the start of the set, going on to lose the set 4-6. After having a a bad first set, he came into the second set wanting to show he could play well, but Stephen was ready for this and upped his game, going on to win the match 4-6 3-6.

(Q) Samuel Hartnell (ETN) 4 6 6
Andre Pedrinho Delgado (CDO) 6 3 2

Samuel Hartnell, being the youngest professional tennis player in the country, was seen as the Ethanian wild card, and many people felt he wasn't ready for the international stage, as he was too young, but he proved them wrong in the group stage, and wanted to prove them wrong again in this game. Being inexperienced, he wasn't expected to advance past the group stages, but he managed to get out of them, dominating the other players. Samuel came into the group stages against Andre (CDO) determined to win and prove everyone wrong, and consolidate his place in the International team, trying to prove that he was the best tennis player in Ethane, even at his young age. The game dragged on to 3 sets, after Samuel lost the first set 4-6, and then went on to win the second set 6-3. Andre seemed to be tiring throughout, and in the third set, this tiredness showed, which Samuel, being extremely young, took full advantage of this. Samuel went on to dominate the first set, winning it 6-2.
Esportivan and Proud.
<drawk> If the entirety of the nation of Ethane was covered in a single cubic foot of Ethane on its surface, lighting it all on fire would cause a 5.44 megaton blast.

Stephen Perez is at it again. Though the chance of a place in the World Tour Finals may have fallen by the wayside, the Emberton man is determined to climb as high up the ranking ladder as he can. To that end, he faced Ethani number one Adam Samson in the first round of the Lake Hai'Lu'Kai Open.

Samson may be the best player in his country, but he's sadly not a patch on the number one in ours. Samson's best just wasn't enough to truly challenge the peerless Perez, and despite a tough and valiant effort from his opponent, Perez went through comfortably in straight sets. He'll face Dewa Putu Adrian Putra, the fourth seed, in the next round.

Not such great news, though, for Krytenia's two other singles combatants. Andrew Baumgartner was put to the sword by TOCAO champion Marisa Maradona, whilst Jessica Moreaux fell to qualifier Hollie Graton, who proved there is at least one player from Ethane better than a Krytenian.

Simmons and Walsh will begin their quest for glory tomorrow, as they face a pair from the home nation.

Aline Luiza Romão barely scraped by in a third set tiebreaker, the first ever on the ATP World Tour, saving match points in the process. So it came as a bit of a surprise, then, as the Costenho number 1 lost against former number 4 and Cenian Open finalist Amancio Raimundo Belo - incidentally in a rematch of that very title match - in a third set tiebreak. Romão started out with good form in the first set, with one break of serve enough to seal the set, but the big-serving Belo stopped making so many errors in the second and was able to knock up his level of play. The third set was a tightly contested affair, but ultimately, Belo prevailed, courtesy of an excellent cross-court backhand to find match point, the first of which he converted with an ace.

In other match highlights of the second round action in Lake Hai'lu'kai, Astyrian favorite Lizbet Rittenhaus, who will be retiring later this year, defeated youngster Marisa Maradona, this year's TOCAO singles champion, meaning that Maradona will need a good Symphonian Masters run to qualify for the Tour Finals. Andy Amada trounced qualifier Samuel Hartnell 6-1, 6-2, controlling the match from the outset, setting up a match with TOCAO finalist Marla Gerard, who emerged victorious after a 7-5, 7-6 win over Devontan Charles Sayer.

In the doubles, Will Nolovor and Kell Korden will need to win today in order to remain in contention for the World Tour Finals. With a good performance in this tournament, first seeds Leo Garry and Elizabeth Quehall should qualify for the year-end event; second seeds Komang Antari and Kadek Andreawati have already qualified.

It's All in A Single
Hai'lu'kai, Aurora Confederacy

On the continuation of Lake Hai'lu'kai Open, only one Pemecutanian players left on the tournament after double, Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati lost in Quarterfinals.

It was 4th seed, Dewa Putu Adrian Putra who made a great comeback after a bad result at TOCAO Grand Slam. The single met Amancia Raimundo Belo of Costa de Ouro in Quarterfinals of Lake Hai'lu'kai Open. The match between the two players were so tight. Both players give a strong opening that reach to 6-6 tie-break. Fortunately, Putra able to maintain his play and win the tie break to secure the first set. In the second set, Belo didn't back down. The set went tightly with both players win game after another until 5-5 match. Belo successfully lead the set with a nice netting to 5-6. And unfortunately, Putra unable to shot back Belo's forehand which cost him the 12th game. Belo win the second set by 7-5. In the third set, the situation gets strange. Putra seems to be dominate the set right from the start. He lead fast by 4-0 before Belo able to rise and steal the next 2 games. But Putra was already above the air. He takes the 7th and 8th game to win the match.

On double competition, 2nd seed, Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati had to face Aline Luiza Romao/Andre Pendrinho Delgado also from Costa de Ouro. Romao/Delgado able to difficult Antari/Andreawati. The veteran tennis double gives a hard and difficult shot that makes the Pemecutanian double struggling to keep up their performance. Although being under pressure, Antari/Andreawati still could give resistance to Romao/Delgado. But unfortunately, Antari/Andreawati have to admit Romao/Delgado great performance. They surrender in 2 sets of 6-4 and 6-4.

In the semifinal, 4th seed, Dewa Putu Adrian Putra will meet 1st seed, Botack Andiam of Ceni for a spot in Final. Another single match will be between Paul Quiront of Neu Engollon against 6th seed, Marla Gerard also from Neu Engollon. This will be the few times when only 1 Cenian players is in Semifinal of ATP major tournament.

"Good evening, Neu Engollon. I’m Dom Toglani, and you’re watching the NETV Sports 19 Update. We are in the midst of another ATP event, The Lake Hai'lu'kai Open, and the NETC team started off well, to the relief of fans and the NETC coaching staff alike. They progressed through the matches rather quickly, and here we are now. We have seen a couple bad breaks for some of the Neu Engollian stars, but overall, there was little to get upset over as there were still plenty of other NETC players heading into the quarter finals. To our International viewers, my apologies if you're nation's players were in the tournament, but you aren't from Ceni, Costa de Ouro, Pemecutan or Britonisea. I empathize. Then came the semi-finals today...

The remarkable matches are probably why Paul Quiront was uncharacteristically cheerful...That is, up until today. Quiront was outclassed by fellow Neu Engollian player and rival, Marla Gerard. Gerard shut Quiront down in a three set match to advance, much like Paul had done earlier to her friend, Lizbet Rittenhaus.

During the match, that familiar beast that dwells within Paul came clawing out. Smashed rackets, barbs aimed at the chair umps that skirted the line of good taste, yells of frustration at no one in particular. Of course he saved the most vitriol for Marla, hissing under his breath something we couldn't pick up on the mics.

I guess we were lulled into a false sense that Toddler Paul's worst days were behind him, but obviously he was saving up some of the best for the end of the year's tour. One might say that such behavior won't get him anywhere, but repeated episodes don't seem to have hindered his climb up the ranks. Despite constant threats of sanctions by the domestic NETC officials, nothing has really been done and head turning may be an art with them. Perhaps it's not my place to lose my journalistic objectivity, but as a former professional player and a lover of the sport, I find it harder to sit by and see our sport dismantled by the antics of one man.

Anyway, we watched doubles team Dom Ripaldi and Matti Doerwald lose to
the number one seeded and ranked, Leo Garry and Elizabeth Quehall of Britonisea. The Cenian duo of Thotan and Nagya defeated the Costenans, Romao and Delgado, by a large margin in the last set, 10 to 5. So we shall see Thotan and Nagya hope to work that magic again tomorrow when they face the Britonish.

Meanwhile, all eyes in the Confederacy will be on Marla Gerard as she goes into the final with familiar foe, Botack Andiam. This could be her moment of the year, not to jinx her with all the hype. We know that Marla has it in her, but we also know that Andiam comes from Ceni, without much argument, the top tennis program in the world. Andiam has absorbed every lesson and life experience to get to here as much as Marla has on her end.

You can watch the upcoming match right here on NETV Sports 19 tomorrow night, and later replays on NETV Sports 7. Stay tuned for the nights roller derby scores and highlights after this commercial break from our sponsors..."

"Neu Engollon, I have more good news on top of the recent Rugby World Cup win. Dom Toglani here with you, and you’re watching the NETV Sports 19 Update. The Lake Hai'lu'kai Open has wrapped up, as you may have seen, just hours previously and we have a new International champion, Ms. Marla Gerard. Marla beat her opponent, Botack Andiam of Ceni, to become the singles champion of the Lake Hai'lu'kai Open. We will speak with her as soon as we can, but in the meantime, we have her friend, teammate and fellow top tier NETC player, Lizbet Rittenhaus, with us via video link from the Aurora Confederacy. Lizbet, welcome."

"Thanks, Dom. Happy to be here and especially to talk about my gal pal, Marla. I'm so proud of her. She has worked unbelievably hard for this."

"Indeed she has. Do you feel that it was more a personal accomplishment for her, or that she was performing more as part of the team?"

"Well...I think that's the nature of the sport is you have to be able to perform on both levels. You get doubled up with teammates and you support each other in training, but as you advance, you are an individual. You can't avoid being pitted against your own national teammates. It has to happen sooner or later, then you are in it for yourself. Which up until a couple years ago, was the mentality of all NETC sanctioned players as we were not eligible for International competition...It was all domestic competition, 'every man for themselves' so to speak."

"Right, that was back in my day. I remember it well. But now...it seems that the NETC group has formed a tighter bond as a team."

"We'll always be a tight group and support each other when we can. We will have that bond...Well, most of us. Hopefully, you are not trying to best someone else as your ultimate goal, but trying to outdo your own best. The best players have that goal, and that is what you see with myself and most of us on the team..."

"You're avoiding saying a name here, Liz. Pa...Pau..."

"Please don't, Dom. Let's not start this again."

"Accorzu, I won't. Just pointing it out for some of our International viewers. So, here comes Marla. She is ready to talk with us now?"

"Yes, here she is."

"Hi, Dom, and my buddy, Liz."

"Welcome! Congratulations! You disappeared on us there for a bit, Marla."

"I know. Sorry. I had to clean up after Thierry and Alma dumped some stuff on me."

"Stuff? eewwww."

"Haha, Liz...Liquids. Sports drink and champagne. All benign. I needed a shower, anyway...With all the sweat I needed one anyway."

"So, how do you feel after the big championship match, Marla?"

"I'm great! Obviously I'm floating here. It's not like the World Masters, but it was an accomplishment still that I was hoping to make. To actually finally win an International tournament, and to be the first Neu Engollian to do so, but I would have been just as happy if any of my teammates had had the honor. Also, I have a lot of respect for Botack. I've gotten to know him over the last year and he's a great player, so in a way...I'm sad to take this away from him. But I know he's still happy for me, even though he played his best and wanted to win. I think ATP tennis in general has come a long way as all the players have gotten to know each other and respect each other's abilities."

"I would have to agree with that, Marla. I will miss that the most. Being able to have that camaraderie with our team and with the other ATP players on the court...and off."

"It is a special feeling, for sure, Lizbet."

"Ladies, I have to say that both of your performances on the court were mighty impressive out there, and I am hoping that we see more of that in the upcoming Symphonian Masters. This is really the last lead up to the big gun show coming up, the World Tour Finals. How prepared do you think you all are?"

"Thanks for the reminder, Dom. Yes, I think we'll be ready for it. It's going to be bittersweet, of course. My last one."

"We...We're really going to miss you, Liz. Ahhmagawd..."

"Aw, don't cry, Marla. I'll miss you too. I told you. I'll still be around. I think they'll let me watch...I hope."

"Brat!"

"Hahahaha...aw."

"We have to go to commercial, but thank you both for talking with us, we have to go to commercial and then move on."

"No problem, Dom."

"Glad to talk as always, Dom."

"You're watching the NETV 19 Sports Update. Stay tuned..."

Welcome, Symphony!
Symphony

After a mild success in Lake Hai'lu'kai Open where Dewa Putu Adrian Putra succeed to become semifinalist, now all attention goes to Symphony where Symphonian Masters will be held. 7 singles and 3 doubles of Pemecutan will compete in this tournament with the absent of Luh Putu Yundari who is still in recovery.

In Symphonian Masters, both Dewa Putu Adrian Putra and Ngurah Putra Muliawan become seeded player. Seed 7th and 8th respectively. This tournament also the last time where both players can gain points for a placement in ATP World Tour Final. While in double, Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati become Pemecutanian only seeded team. Fortunately, Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati already secured one place in ATP World Tour Final later in this month. But a great result in Symphonian Masters will put them a better position in ATP year end ranking.

In Single Competition, Dewa Putu Adrian Putra and Ngurah Putra Muliawan are automatically advance to Second Round together with 6 others top seeded players. Ayu Ratih Kemalasari and Oka Sulastra will be played against qualifier in the first round. While Kadek Adi Wiranatha will meet David Ortiz of US. Devonta. And Maria Sophia Lubis gets a hard opponent by facing 10th seed, Marisa Maradona of Ceni in the First Round. Indah Susanti become the only single player who compete in Qualification Round. She joined Group 6 together with Luke Pool of Schottia, Nico Angelo of Ethane and Theo Jourdain of Acronius.

In Double Competition, all 3 Pemecutanian double teams compete from First Round as only 4 top seeded teams that automatically advance to the Second Round. 5th seed, Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati will meet Alma Semmes/Danjiella Zovic of Neu Engollon. While Ilham Nugraha/Jayadi Ahmad will play against Owen Simmons/Perry Walsh of Krytenia. A hard times faced by Eka Putrawan/Dwi Ratmadi as they meeting with 10th seed, Ellela Thotan/Ciache Nagya of Ceni.

It's fair to say that over the years, tennis has never exactly been a sport, which brought in the Schottic crowds. Despite a high level of investment in sports across the nation, there were few young people picking up a racket, opting instead for sports such as football, rugby, and now gridiron. With that in mind Eliza Reussmann wasn't exactly going to be a household name. I mean, if you tell someone on the street that you are the 422 ranked player in the world, you're far more likely to get a polite nod, rather than an impressed comment.

Life on the tour was nowhere near as glamorous as it sounded when you were down at the bottom. Flights to Astyria cost money, and when you weren't finishing near the top in terms in of prize money, then it barely even covered the financial commitment that players such as her or Luke Pool had to shoulder. Eliza was heavily reliant on her sportsperson's bursary, and without the twelve thousand or so she received to top up her salary, she would actually struggle to make ends meet.

Eliza drew inspiration from the nation's gridiron side, who had went from a bunch of plucky amateurs, to a side ranked eighth in the world. If they could push on and transform the culture of the sport in Schottia, then surely she and the other tennis players could do the same. But this wouldn't happen unless she started winning games, and she needed to take some scalps at the top level. She had beaten Roland Gervais in straight sets, but she needed the type of competition that would come from getting to the latter stages, where she could play on the bigger courts.

Eliza didn't have the biggest serve in the world, which meant she had to make her first serve count. Her second serve was pretty much just a means to start the point, negating any advantage she would receive in her service game. She had been working very hard with her coach, trying to improve this side of her game, with both the Symphonian Masters and the Olympics coming up. At twenty-two, it was going to be now or never for her. Unless she was able to break through and make some sort of an impact soon, then she knew it would be curtains. She was young, she would go on and do something else, PE teaching, study that sports-science degree. There was no way she was going to hang on in the Schottic domestic tennis scene, lingering around like some ghost in the same way that someone like Luke Pool had done. The guy was thirty-one and he still couldn't play his way out of a paper bag.

'Good Liza!' Said her coach Jim Blyth, as she found the outside of the line with another back hand return. 'What an improvement.'

In truth she was pretty pleased with how she had been moving around the court in recent games. Certainly in the immediate aftermath of the Lake Hai'lu'kai Open, they had worked on that part of her game extensively. This coupled with her starting to return a bit better, was only going to help her in matches.

'Thanks.' She replied a little out of breath, before hitting her next serve way to long. 'Damn it!' She thumped her racket against her thigh before picking up another ball from the back of the practice court.

'Right, this is your second serve, Liza.' Jim said taking an enormous step inside the base-line for what was likely to be a tame effort. 'Make this one count. Something safely inside the court, then in quickly on the attack.'

It could often be a bit of "one step forward - one step back" but there was time, and she could see the slight improvement herself. Perhaps, with a little luck, this time next year, she would be in a wholly different position.
