To The Top 16
Cenial, Ceni

After giving a great performance in Group Stage, Pemecutan lead Group A and successfully goes to Round of 16. In Round 16, Pemecutan meet a veteran nation in tennis world, Kannap. The first match day of Round 16 show a balance performance between both singles. Dewa Putu Adrian Putra successfully beat Brianna Powell in 3 sets match to lead the series. While Luh Putu Yundari has to struggle in her match and losing it from Samantha Howell.

Putra begins the match with a high confident although he will be facing a more experience player, Brianna Powell. The first set looks tight with a series of 40-40 deuce that showed in each games. But Putra eventually able to lead and win it by 6-4. In the second set, Putra getting more confidence and able to lead 4-2. Powell took advantage of a Putra's low shot that give her the 7th game. But Putra comeback nicely and takes both 8th and 9th games to end the set for his victory. In the last set, Putra didn't give Powell room to grow. He continuously block and tackled Powell shots that frustrated her. As the result, Putra win easily by 6-0 and give the first win to Pemecutan.

The second match were between Luh Putu Yundari and Samantha Howell. In the first set, Howell able to control the situation at first and lead fast by 3-0. But Yundari made a comeback in the 4th game and eventually equalize the point. The situation gets critical after Yundari's nice netting give 40-40 deuce in the 10th game. But fortunately, Howell play more elegant and finished the first set for her. In the second set, a tight match were displayed and the match continue into 5-5 tie break position. This time Yundari seems to be more focus and able to finished the next 2 games with a lot of struggle to equalize their position. In the third set, Yundari still on the rise and difficult Howell a few times. The set finished with Yundari's victory. But the situation turns upside down in the 4th set. Howell able to break Yundari's nice performance and continue to shine. She eventually win the set and force the 5th set to be played. The 5th set was played in a tight game. Both players surely wants to give the victory for their country. This situation leads to a super tie-break position in which Howell able to finished it greatly.

With these result, the current position of the match is a draw between Pemecutan and Kannap. The second day match will be between Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati against Brianna Powell/Samantha Howell. This situation might advantage Pemecutan a bit as both double player of Kannap have been played a match in the single tie. But anything could happen.

"Neu Engollon, good evening. I'm Dom Toglani, your host for the NETV Sports 19 Update. We are still covering the International Tennis Trophy in Ceni. The NETC team has been battling it out with the Coraspians in the round of 16 of the ITT.

Today was the doubles match days. Our doubles team, Rittenhaus and Zovic, dominated their sets and shut down the Coraspians Luciano Ziccardino IV and Colonel Selav Tukerawan in a quick series of 3 sets. Lizbet Rittenhaus demonstrated that she still had the ability to bring a fight, despite criticism that she doesn't have the fire left. Her serves brought us back to some of the early years, when she would play the Geneva Open and ace her opponents into a dazed stupor. We have seen glimpses of that iron will, but it has been a while.

Danjiella Zovic has also shown why she is a valuable asset to the NETC team and why she is a rising star in the tennis circuit. With Coraspia out of the way, the NETC players Zovic, Rittenhaus, Gerard and Quiront will all be resting and preparing for the next tie, or series here in Ceni at the ITT. We will have more coverage after the break. Stay tuned..."

Natanians and Nosts' double lost their match against Ceni, after Rog Ion Tralito's incredible win against a Cenian tennis player(3-2).The double Márcus/Iohanna suffered a 3 sets defeat against Will/Kell,the Cenian double. The firs set,our double won easily the first two games, but the Cenians woke up,and won three games in a row, without leaving us to score a single point in this time, but we could won the sixth game, with the Cenians winning the set(6-3).The second set started better, with our double winning perfectly the first game, the Cenian double won the second game in a deuce, the third and fourth games we defeated them, than their double won the next four games, but our team had won the next two games, they won their sixthe set,but the next set we won,so at that time the game was 6-6,the "tie break" was hard and they needed more than just seven points to defeat us.They came striking as they didn't know defense in the third set, which they won 6-4.

Emotional Wilson, produces fairytale farewell

Postby Welwyn (Ancient) » Sun Aug 23, 2015 2:52 pm

35-year old Greg Wilson called time on his tennis career after bookending the dead final tie of Welwyn's first foray into International Tennis with two epic Five-Set victories.
He started by matching Samuel Gerkin throughout the first four sets as one break of serve in each set was enough to take the two of them to a fifth set decider. That was when the serving was kicked up another notch. However, at 6-7, Gerkin double faulted at 15all and then missed an easy put away volley to bring up two match points and Wilson then roasted a tentative second serve to claim the match.
Then, following Gerkin winning the tie on day three with a five-set victory of his own against Emma Hunt, Wilson stepped on court for an emotional occasion, the day after he confirmed his eminent retirement from Tennis.
It appeared the emotion of the occasion was going to get to Wilson, particularly in a second set where Tracy Frenmore only had to get the ball into court to win points with Wilson struggling to find the court with even the simplest of shots.
Whether that second set, taken as it was 6-1, allowed Frenmore to become complacent but a poor game to open the third gave Wilson an immediate break and it was as if a switch had been turned on that he still had one more tennis match in him.
Wilson produced 11 aces in the third set to hold onto that break of serve throughout that third set. Then in the fourth, produced 17, the highest in his career, including 4 in the tie-break alone to send the match to a fifth set. It was like the Wilson serve of a decade ago as he strained every piece of energy and muscle memory to give him one last great serving display.
This continued in the decider and Frenmore seemed shell-shocked at what was coming down from the other end. The crowd, ever growing around the outside court at what was, in essence, a dead rubber of a dead tie, was behind Wilson and was desperate to see the fairytale come true. Wilson duly obliged and as he hit his 38th ace of the match to complete the turnaround against a demoralised Frenmore, he sank to his knees in tears.
"That meant a lot to me." mused an overcome Wilson afterwards. "To know this would be it coming in. I mean, I am delighted that I am going to become team captain now but to at least go out like that...Well, it's pretty damn special."

Albaie's Onward March

For the first time Albaie has reached a quarterfinal in a major international tournament no matter the sport. With Sir Patrick Park and Wendell Fisher knowing that thanks to Francis Burton and Stanley Anderson's straight sets victory against Wray they had the chance to regain their honour after their dual defeats in their first matches of the tie they went out and played some of the best tennis either had ever played. Sir Patrick Park and Wendell Fisher had looked unlikely to keep up Albaie's dominant run following two dismal performances in the tie's first two matchups but inspired by their teammate's doubles victory they managed to regain control of the tie and not only keep Albaie's unbeaten run going but make her advance to the final one step closer to reality.

Sir Patrick Park played the first game of the tie against Brandon Lissett and suffered a first set defeat 6-3 before Albaie's number one tennis player managed to gain one set back 6-1. The next set was almost an exact repeat of the first set as Park again suffered a 6-3 defeat and went into the fourth set knowing he needed a victory to stay in the match. After a tough fourth set Park came out the victor only just managing to beat Lissett 6-4 but his efforts were in vain as the set sapped too much of his energy and Park crumpled to a 6-0 defeat in the fifth set ending his match in the first stage of the tie.

Francis Burton and Stanley Anderson went into the second stage of the tie knowing that they had to win to not only keep Albaie's undefeated run a possibility but for Albaie to have any chance of victory after an embarrassing first stage to the tie. Burton and Anderson matched the country's hopes in excellent fashion as they wiped the floor with their opposition. The Dubrack's Town duo tore apart their Wray opponents in straight sets winning each set 6-2. Watching on from the stands were Sir Patrick Park and Wendell Fisher who both watched with stern expressions until the end of the game when they roared their appreciation at the chance to get pay pack for their earlier embarrassment.

Wendell Fisher came out in the final match of the tie knowing that he needed to win the tie not only for his dignity but for his country's honour and failed to disappoint. The Emperor's Bridge man won the first two sets 7-5 as he fought with a passion that showed just how much the match meant to him and it paid off as Fisher would come away as winner after two more sets. Fisher lost the next set 6-1 but quickly came back to win the fourth and final set 6-3 to put the tie to bed and put Albaie into the quarter finals.

In the next round Albaie will go up against Neu Egollon who are ranked 85th in the international rankings which compared to our own ranking of 278 poses a heavy problem. Despite this Sir Patrick Park and Burton/Anderson have experiance in giant killings from the Electrum Slam where they both beat higher ranked seeds in their international debut and hope they can continue Albaie's so far unbeaten streak at the ITT.

A Spot in Quarter Final
Cenial, Ceni

Pemecutanian players makes their way to the Quarter Final of International Tennis Trophy after defeated Kannapian delegation. In the second match day, Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati shine through and both Pemecutanian single give a great result to take Pemecutan win the tie by 4-1.

In the second match day, Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati faced Brianna Powell/Samantha Howell. Antari/Andreawati looks dominant in the first set although Powell/Howell still able to difficult them. The situation gets critical after Powell drop shot makes them force 40-40 deuce in the 10th game. But fortunately, Andreawati could manage to block Howell netting and take the first set by 6-4. In the second set, Powell/Howell seems to dictate the match and makes Pemecutanian double to disconnected with their play. Powell/Howell emerge to win the set by 6-3. Antari/Andreawati came back in the third set and able to finished the set after 4 times 40-40 deuce in 10th game. In the forth set, Powell/Howell lead first by 3-0 before being equalize by Antari/Andreawati. The Pemecutanian double eventually lead the set by 5-4 before a nice smash by Antari conclude the match for Pemecutan.

In the third match day, a revise single ties match were held. Dewa Putu Adrian Putra play against Samantha Howell. While Luh Putu Yundari was faced Brianna Powell. Putra successfully takes the first after by 6-4. But Howell didn't give up and push the second set into 6-6 tie-break before she eventually win the set. Unfortunately, the situation gets bad for Howell. She seems to be out of focus and her performance decreasing in the third set. Putra take the moment and win the set easily. Howell try to rise in the forth set. But Putra seems to be above the air and unable to catch up by Howell. At the end, Putra win the match by 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 and 6-3.

On the other hand, Luh Putu Yundari had to faced Brianna Powell. After her defeated in the first match day against Samantha Howell, Yundari play more safely. The first set was a struggle for Yundari. Powell able to dictate the match at first and Yundari making a hard way to break her dominance. And eventually it getting much better after Yundari able to push 5-5 deuce position. Powell seems to be out of focus and Yundari takes the next 2 games to win the first set. Powell still on her prime condition although her performance and play could be read by Yundari which makes Yundari able to stop or blocks her shot. The next 2 set were made for Yundari.

With 4-1 result, Pemecutan advance to the Quarter Final where they will be facing Krytenia. A glimpse of Krytenia road to Quarter Final, they manage to topped Group C after 2 wins (against Natanians and Nosts and The Tiber and Wisdom) and 1 lost from Patistan. In Round 16, they met The Sword Bloke which they manage to win by 4-1 that leads them to Quarter Final of International Tennis Trophy.

The Cenian Tennis Association makes the following change in the roster for the tie against Britonisea:

Marisa Maradona for Andy Amada

(9) Andy Amada - 17 - Although he was awarded a wildcard at the first round of the Cenian Open last year, but lost to Mia Cassington in four sets. After that loss, his next few tournaments took place in Astyria at the Astyrian Series, where Amada had a breakthrough season at the beginning of the year. In only his second ATP tournament, Amada advanced through qualifying to reach the quarterfinals of the Cadenzan Clay Challengem, defeating fourth seed Elizabeth Hines in the process before losing to Ngurah Putra Muliawan.

Ranked twenty-second out of twenty-eight players, Amada continued his run of success at the BCA Albergaria Open. He defeated Charles Sayer in three tight sets, prevailing 6-1 in the third after the two traded tiebreaks. He then defeated Hines again to make the quarterfinal, where he defeated third seed and fellow Cenian teenager Lonus Varalin in three sets. In one of the biggest upsets of his career, he then defeated top-ten player Andre Pedrinho Delgado in three tight sets - 4-6, 7-6, 7-5, including saving match points to reach the final, where he lost to Aline Luiza Romao after taking the first set six to nothing.

He did poorly at the Fresko Masters, reaching the second round. At the Neu Engollon Open, he reached the semifinals seeded fifth, where he again lost to Aline Luiza Romao, this time 6-3, 6-3. At the Santa Maria Open, seeded sixth, he had touch matches against Marla Gerard and Ashley Tyler before falling in straight sets to fellow Cenian Ciache Nagya.

At his second grand slam, he reached the Round of 16, losing to Elaine Foyner, the then number one, where he lost in four sets after taking the first set 7-5. He had easy second and third round matches after barely surviving Tyler Martin of Kaboomlandia in five sets. In Masters events, he faltered in Cenial, Hamilton, and Britonisea, posting early-round losses, before making his first Grand Slam quarterfinal against Gabe Anderson, who had defeated Elaine Foyner earlier in the tournament, to whom he lost to as well. It was disappointing and exciting at the same time for Amada.

His style tends to gravitate towards the serve and volley; he can use it effectively because of his height, which helps him to have power on his serves. He has good volleys and powerful forehands as well, the latter of which helped him to succeed as much as he did on the clay courts. He tends to come into the net if he can, where he puts away the ball, as well as hitting forehands into the corners. His backhand could use some work and tends to be unreliable.

Cutoff as well.

"Neu Engollon, welcome back to the NETV Sports 19 Update. I'm Dom Toglani for those of you just tuning in after the sponsor break. We are there in spirit at the International Tennis Trophy in Ceni and the NETC team has advanced to the Quarterfinal rounds for those of you that aren't die hard tennis fans here in the Confederacy.

Currently, they are in some intense matches with the Albaieans in order to attempt to keep on to the semifinal round. We will show some highlights from those match ups in a minute, but first...Tonight, we've brought Neu Engollian tennis legend, Lizbet Rittenhaus on to the show, via video link, to talk to us about progress so far, the team, her performance and the future. Lizbet, welcome to the program!"

"Thanks for having me on, Dom. I know we've talked about it before, but I always go back to our matches at the Albertville Open and seeing you across the net there and how encouraging you were, even as you were kicking my ass."

"Oh, yeah, that was quite a tournament then, eh? Sweltering heat. I tell you, it was a close one, and I thought you'd get the best of me. Anyway, let's get back to the current tennis proceedings...So, yours and Danjiella's match is coming up against Burton and Anderson."

"Yes, we'll be ready."

"How do you feel about that? Do you think that you're ready to take them on?"

"As ready as we'll ever be, Dom. Danni and I have really gotten into a tight working relationship here. We are reading each other very well and we are relying on each others' strengths, as a good doubles team should. Just like I can work as seamlessly with Marla and Alma. There are other NETC players who I wouldn't be able to work with as well, they shall remain unnamed. That certain person...or persons...would try to do everything and outshine their teammates...and fail miserably at it."

"Uh, I think we all know you're talking about Paul."

"Maybe. Point is that we have made quite a bond and are operating almost like...one person now. I know that sounds cheezy..."

"Not at all. I think that is the ideal for a double pairing. Do you think that you and Danni are carrying the NETC team right now?"

"I would never say that. That would be really arrogant to say, or to assume, because it's just plainly not true. Marla is working hard and winning a good amount of her match ups, doing her part and more..."

"And so is Paul..."

"And so is Quiront, yes. I'm not going to diss him, if that's what people are thinking. He has his part, no matter what people think of him off court, he's still a very able professional...usually...on the court."

"Usually?"

"I don't like to talk about it and get into it. I just don't feel right complaining or dishing, but its an extra hurdle."...sigh...
"Again, the challenging of the chair umpires and line judges almost every set, that is going to get old. That's his thing, he thinks it's part of the sport, but really, it's just poor sportsmanship. That could do the team harm as a whole, if some punitive measure comes down. We can't really deal with that at this point. I mean, we could be disqualified as a team unless they let us bring and sub in another player, or me or Danni play the rest of the singles matches. We could do it, but it would really hamper our chances, ya know?"

"I do know. I think you nailed it as to the horrible consequences that he could put the team into."

"Yes, so we have that specter hanging over us. Not really very nice, but other than that, Paul is playing as hard as the rest of us. If he could only channel that other energy positively, but, well...It's Quiront, that's just not possible for him or in his nature. So we learn to deal with it and hope for the best. In the meantime, me, Danni and Marla keep up the good sportmanship for the team. Let's move on."

"Right. So, this is the farthest that you all have probably gotten in an ATP sanctioned International tournament. Obviously, you're all feeling pretty great about that, I would imagine. Now, how much of that do you feel is due to the nations and other players involved, and the format of the tournament?"

"Well, I see what you're getting at, so I won't take offense. I could agree that it's not all due to our hard work through these last few tournaments to build up rank and experience, but I think that still has a lot to do with it. Our getting this far isn't a fluke, we have put in the effort and deserve to reap the benefits...That being said, yes, some of the longstanding ATP top ranked players are missing from this tournament, and that helps. Also, the format is not typical of most ATP tournaments, but that's how these trophy tournaments go, from what I understand. Less matches, more eliminations...Definitely a different animal..."

"Yes, I would say so. We're running low on time. Lizbet, I'm going to ask a question here, and I know you've dealt with it enough over the last year but..."

"Is this about retirement? You want to put this old girl out to pasture?"

"Haha...Really, come on now..."

"I'm kidding. Yes, I am a little sick of the question, but I did say myself that I would consider retirement after this season, and I still mean that. I guess I've brought that on myself as it is big news that is worth talking about. So...I'm still considering it. I will revisit it after the last couple tournaments of the season for ATP and NETC. It's tough to think about that right now, as that's not my mindset. We're very focused on the matches, so that's so out of my peripheral right now that it's not worth revisiting until then. That's the best you're going to get, Dom, on that."

"Fair enough, Lizbet. I understand. Well spoken. Well, thank you again for speaking with us and we'll be cheering you and Danjiella on in the upcoming match with the Albaieans, Burton and Anderson."

"Of course, Dom. And thank you. I have to get to our warm up. Nice talking with you and being able to have touch with the folks back home, although there's a decent fan base of Neu Engollians here, believe it or not."

"Oh, I believe it. Thanks. Okay, Neu Engollon, we'll be back after another break to give you some more pre-match coverage and those highlights of Paul Quiront and Marla Gerard's matches this afternoon. Stay tuned."
TG me with questions if you got some, especially about GE&T or PMCs.

Reporters throng around Will Nolovor and Kell Korden as they line up to enter Centre Court for their matchup against Leo Garry and Elizabeth Quehall of Britonisea. Tennis might be Ceni's national sport - and the only sport in which any Cenian athletes or teams have achieved much success. Seven of the top ten in singles and four of the top ten teams in doubles are Cenian, so Ceni was the favorite - on home soil - to capture the first International Tennis Trophy. However, there were some problems for the team as they came up on the quarterfinal tie against Britonisea, although it was nothing serious - they had only dropped two matches on the way to the quarterfinal tie, but Britonisea would be much tougher opposition than previous opponents.

Problems first arose with Britonisea when twenty-fifth ranked Ricardo Toli upset ninth ranked Andy Amada in four sets, prevailing in a last set tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, 7-6. Britonisea had once been a solid performer on the tennis tour - Toli reached the semifinals of the Electrum Slam a year ago - but since then, their rankings have fallen. Toli, however, seemed to have found the form he once had, winning the important points where they counted - several good shots down the line on serve, volley winners to seal off the set. Amada still hit some good serves, good volleys, and good forehands, but Toli's experience paid off, and he was able to neutralize what, in any other match, would be Amada's advantage. It seemed like a tennis match from a year ago.

Ciache Nagya set off to level the score against Lance Mance, who used to be in the top ten and has now fallen to fiftieth in the world rankings. The first two sets were a breeze for Nagya, won with one break in the first, two breaks in the second, six-three, six-three. Nagya played some of the tennis of her life - going hard for the aggressive shots, and surprisingly, making the shots that she had once missed earlier in her career. Most of the errors she used to make were gone. However, it seemed like the old versions of each player returned for the next two sets. Nagya continued to run Mance around but she started to make more errors as she tired while Mance found some magic again. He took the next sets, six-three, six-two. It was Nagya's turn to take the stage, however, as she capitalized on weak returning and weak serves to win both serve and return games. She had tired him out and had just enough stamina left to finish Mance off.

Now reporters are asking Will Nolovor and Kell Korden how they planned to defeat a team eight spots in the rankings above them - the top ten doubles team Leo Garry and Elizabeth Quehall, two tennis veterans. In contrast, Nolovor and Korden are newcomers to the scene - this is only their fourth tournament, but they have shined nonetheless, making a Grand Slam quarterfinal at the Cenian Open and the Round of 16 at the Electrum Slam. They have clinical, precise volleys and good reach, and they tell reporters that they planned to use their weapons at their disposal. They also tell reporters that they would be trying to be aggressive against the Britonisean team, who were known to use a lot of groundstrokes to wear their opponents out and use the alleys quite a bit.

Last but not least, they tell reporters that they're out there to have a good time and to have fun - that's their goal. They want to win for their country, but their ultimate goal is to develop their friendship and their tennis further through this match. And if it might mean make or break for the Cenian team, it only adds to the fun of the entire experience for them.

They were too much for Will Nolovor and Kell Korden. Too many shots were returned from serve into the doubles alley while the server was busy moving up to the net, too many shots were lobbed, too many volleys that would have made it in made it out. It was the showcase match of the day, and Centre Court was yelling and cheering for the Cenian team - but it all did no good. Garry and Quehall prevailed in four sets, taking Britonisea to a two-one lead. Ciache Nagya and Andy Amada have their work cut out for them - one wrong move and they could be losing the tie for Ceni, and Ceni will be out. On the other hand, Britonisea is ecstatic - if (or when) they beat the world's best tennis nation, they will have signaled a return to relevancy in the tennis world.

Britonisea didn't have the easiest of times making it to the Round of 16. They had to come back from two matches down three times in the group stage - two matches they won, they came down from two matches to nil. Against Estelar, a newcomer nation, Ricardo Toli and Lance Mance both dropped a rubber; against Kannap, Powell and Howell both won their first day's matches before falling to the Britoniseans; and againsyt Luxdonia, a totally unknown nation, they dropped their first two matches to unranked players before coming back to win the tie. Although some of the pressure was lifted when they totally demolished Frenline Delpha, if anyone is good at performing under pressure, it is Britonisea.

But in this match, they will be the ones putting the pressure on Ceni. Coming into the tie, the Cenians were the paper favorites to win the match. Ceni has been dominant on the world tennis stage for the past year and a half - and they expected to take this tie in a breeze, even though Britonisea did have some previous success in tennis competition. Now Ceni are the ones testily waiting for the matches to come up - they need to win both matches on the last day to have any hope of taking the tie and advancing to the semifinal. Any mistakes, any lapse, and Britonisea would have the tie.

The first and second sets were competitive as Nolovor and Korden shouldered the heavy burden that had been placed on top of them. In the first set, all was on serve as the Cenians held serve with some excellent volleys and footwork while the Britoniseans pushed at Nolovor and Korden with excellent groundstrokes along the various lines of the court. Nolovor and Korden held the pressure continuing into the tiebreaker, which, despite some mini-breaks, remained on serve until 10-11 with Korden serving. He moved forward only to find that the ball had gone into the alley's corner, giving the set to the Britoniseans.

Nolovor and Korden only won the second set due to a little bit of luck as a nicely angled volley into the short area of the alley followed by two errors from the Britoniseans gave them break point. After saving two break points, the Britoniseans looked ready to take their game back, but as Quehall returned a ball short, Nolovor was able to run up to the ball and tap it into the court, where it just barely landed on the net tape and waltzed over the net, barely. They served well, including several aces, and hit a lot of volley winners.

Apparently holding the key to success in their pocket, the Britoniseans made a comeback in the second set after being broken and losing Korden's serve, winning the next six games. Nolovor and Korden seemed powerless to stop their drive as they continued into the next set. Return of serve went into the alley, winning a number of points; Korden and Nolovor started making more errors and double faults; Quehall and Garry found a way to repulse Nolovor & Korden's strong serves with good returning, while Korden and Nolovor couldn't keep pace with the excellent returning.

The fourth set was more competitive and decided by a break in the last game of the set and the match. It was a tense affair, and the Cenians definitely weren't helped when a double fault from Nolovor gave Britoniseans match points, and an error from Korden when he aimed for the Korden gave them the set and the match. Overall, it was high quality play from both teams - but the Britoniseans held a slight advantage all match, which the Cenians never could break. Although Korden and Nolovor should have held serve often enough with their aggressive serving strategy, the Britoniseans' aggressive returning strategy put a crimp in their plans.

Now it's up to Ciache Nagya and Andy Amada to carry Ceni's torch in the remaining two matches of the International Tennis Trophy quarterfinal - a do or die affair for Ceni, while the Britoniseans hope to continue their momentum from before. Cenians fervently hope that their team wins against one of the perpetual bogeymen of tennis for them - and a lot rests upon Nagya and Amada to continue to carry Ceni forward in the tournament. Should they win, they will face the winner of Pemecutan versus Krytenia. Good luck to Nagya and Amada, and may the best win (if they are Cenian, of course)!

All The Way to Semi Final
Cenial, Ceni

Pemecutan enter Quarter Final with a high expectation and get a nice result against Krytenia. The first match day were a fairly result between both singles. Both match were played in 5 sets match where Dewa Putu Adrian Putra shockingly defeated by Krytenian, Stephen Perez. On the other hand, Luh Putu Yundari able to equalize the position after defeated Jessica Moreaux also in 5 sets match. The second match day show the come back of Pemecutan. Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati faced Owen Simmons/Perry Walsh. The match showed a dominance of Antari/Andreawati from the start. Although Simmons/Walsh able to difficult the Pemecutanian double, especially in the second set, but Antari/Andreawati continued their best performance and outplayed Simmons/Walsh to give a lead for Pemecutan.

In the third Quarter Final match day, Dewa Putu Adrian Putra again had a difficult time in controlling his performance during a match against Jessica Moreaux. Putra takes a hard way to win the first set after a tie-break but easily defeated Moreaux in the second set by 6-0. Putra lost his focus in the third and forth set that makes Moreaux able to equalize the situation. In the final set, they have to finished it witha super tie-break which won by Putra with 9-7 result.

Yundari happen to be more calm during her match after Putra's winning against Jessica Moreaux which secure Pemecutan victory by 3-1. But Yundari still play nicely against Stephen Perez. In the first set, Yundari able to control much of the match although Perez seems to be a tough and clever player. Perez continue to difficult Yundari and force 5-5 deuce in the second set before she able to finished it by 7-5. In the third set, Perez lead first by 3-0 before Yundari able to catch up and lead 5-4. Perez again force a deuce after takes the 10th game. The situation gets similar with second set and Yundari finished the set with her victory. With this result, Pemecutan wins the tie by 4-1.

Although winning the final match against Stephen Perez, Luh Putu Yundari has to absent from Semi Final match. They had survived - barely. Ceni had won by three to two in an amazing comeback, with both Ciache Nagya and Andy Amada winning their reverse singles matches to carry the win for the team. Ciache Nagya's defeat of Ricardo Toli was nerve-wracking; she had to survive match points - and tie points - in the seventh and ninth game of the match, when Toli had ad over her deuce. But she fought tenaciously and was able to break, and break again, to carry the match. Her favorite shot during the tense final moments of the last set was a nice return that flummoxed Toli - right down the line, where Toli couldn't get it. She had some more good returns - especially when they mattered - including drop shot returns and cross-court returns which showed Toli that she would survive.

The first four sets were also nerve-wracking. Toli barely won the first set after Nagya held serve for most of the set - but Nagya cracked under the pressure and produced some double-faults and errors to give Toli the break and the set. Nagya barely won the second set, but it started a roll. One point likely changed the course of the match - Nagya just got her racquet on a passing shot, but it landed in with a nice angle. She also produced a lovely passing shot that Toli missed in the tiebreaker and was adept at painting the lines in the third set, breaking Toli once. In the fourth set, Toli looked like he was going to have momentum on his side - he raced ahead to win the set six-love. Nagya almost faltered.

But in the end she pulled through - even though Toli had won more games than her. Another distribution of those games would have given Britonisea the match and the tie - but Nagya had saved Ceni. Britonisea knew they had another chance to win the match, while Amada also had to win to carry his team through. It was a nerve-wracking first set for both players as they progressed to a tiebreak; neither was able to break serve. Both held all their serves, some with some excellent play. Amada used good placement to the T and out wide for some good aces and his forehand to the backhand corner to finish of Mance, while Mance relied on some good groundstrokes. In the tiebreak, Amada held the slight advantage, winning 7-5 with a nicely angled volley to shut Mance out.

Mance didn't like it; he fought well in the second set, but Amada ultimately broke him with excellent returning as well as some opportune errors from Mance. Mance, determined to exact some revenge on Amada, fought back, taking the next ten games - six in the third and four in the fourth - in a magnificent comeback. Mance had figured out the tools of breaking Amada's serve, apparently, and he put his skills to good use, including passing Amada on some serve-and-volley points and hitting paint-the-line shots on others. Amada, though, knew how to break Mance's serve as well, and cranked up his aggressive style. It paid off, and he hit a lot of corners as well as more volleys. Back on serve, Amada held out until the eleventh game of the set, where he not only benefited from a double fault, but also hit some wonderful winners - including a topspin lob - to seal the set and the match.

Ceni was ecstatic; they had come back from the brink of defeat and won their tie against Britonisea. It was a close call, but they were able to do it. Now, the team would face an even higher caliber opponent - Pemecutan, a new up-and-coming nation of the tennis circuit. As such, the Cenian tennis administration decided to switch Will Nolovor and Kell Korden - who had performed well in earlier rounds - for Ellela Thotan and Ciache Nagya and Nagya in singles for Botack Andiam. In the other semifinal, Sargossa, which is participating in its first ATP-sanctioned tournament, will face veterans Neu Engollon.

Ceni roster change: Ciache Nagya for Botack Andiam
Will Nolovor/Kell Korden for Ellela Thotan/Ciache Nagya

---

This is also cutoff.

"Dom Toglani, with you here on the NETV Sports 19 Update, Neu Engollon. We continue to bring you coverage of the International Tennis Trophy in Ceni. The NETC team have, against odds, moved onward and upward to get to the semi-finals. I may be one of the few people in the Confederacy that has not been surprised at all that this super group of Neu Engollon's best tennis players have gotten to this point...okay, so maybe that's not entirely accurate.

Maybe part of this success is due to Paul Quiront being quieter and more focused, making less of a stink about every call that doesn't go his way, while in direct proportion, Lizbet Rittenhaus has become even more vocal in encouragement of her female comrades, Marla Gerard and Danjiella Zovic. They have really come together as a team, noticeable during the recent battle to win the tie against Albaie.

Almost the most amazing was watching Danni and Liz cheer on Paul during the last half of his match versus Wendell Fisher, when he dominated three games in a row in the third set, not even giving Fisher a chance to return a serve during two games. That was not the startling part though for many, but the fact that they would put aside personal differences in order to be there for their teammate.

They had given their support to Marla Gerard earlier, as she put paid to Patrick Park and his chance to help the Albaieans advance to the next stage in a blanket domination of three sets to take the match.

In comparison, Rittenhaus and Zovic needed an extra set to finally overcome the duo of Francis Burton and Stanley Anderson. The wear on Lizbet showed as Danni stepped up to pick up the slack. In particular, during one of Burton's slams it was Danni that fell back to pop it back over the net, when Liz came up short on timing and reach.

Fatigue has plagued the singles players as well during their grueling climb up through the opposition. and it didn't take NETC coach Huettenfeld long to notice. An unnamed source present at a crucial meeting yesterday has said that all four players were adamantly against the Coach's suggestion of substitutes on the roster before the semi-final matches versus Sargossa's top players. After much arguing, Huettenfeld finally relented to let them continue on.

Ultimately, the battle to the top to get a hold of that trophy may be more against the Neu Engollian players own exhaustion than the Sargossan, Cenian, or Pemecutanian players. How disheartening would it be to the fans here in the Confederacy to see one of these players fob a return or miss an easy lob as they stumbled, their feet rebelling against their brains' signals. One gets sad just thinking about the possibility.

We will be there for the start of the singles matches of Gerard and Quiront against Aja and Alaniz, right after these messages from our sponsors. Stay tuned..."

Breaking Neu Ground

Mario Najar reports;

It wasn’t that long ago that this experiment in international tennis felt like it had gone a little flat. In the final round of group ties Tejano Alaníz had dug deep to defeat Abd al Bari in four sets and level the tie against Sri Lankin at 2 – 2, leaving the in-form Rodrigo Aja to deliver the coup de grâce in the final singles rubber and turn around the tie. Unfortunately we neglected to show Ayeisha a copy of the script, the Sri Lankin star knocking over Aja in four to secure a 3 – 2 win. Two defeats in three ties was a hugely disappointing return, against not insurmountable opposition, and left a rather deflated team that somehow scrapped into the knockout stages.

Last sixteen opponents, the United States of Devonta, were quite the opposite, having breezed through their group without breaking much of a sweat. 5 – 0 didn’t look entirely out of the question against a nation with plenty of previous international experience and the betting perhaps reflected that. So when Alaníz took first set one and then set three against world number twenty eight Elizabeth Hines the bookmakers were possibly allowing themselves a small smile. Hines then edged a narrow fourth set to level the match but Alaníz, having clearly found a second wind in this competition, played a fantastic final set, winning it 6 – 3 to give Sargossa a shock win. The quality of the opposition really shone though in the second singles match as Charles Sayer battered Aja in a one sided opening set. But the Sargossan came fighting back to take set two on a tie break. The third also went the distance, Aja losing a heartbreakingly close contest. And that may have played on his mind as Sayer closed out the match with a 6 – 3 win in the fourth.

So to day two of a tie that was unusually poised. More unusual still was the line-up for the doubles encounter between the two nations. Back home the EsporTec Pro Tour is organised on gender lines, only mixed doubles ties see male and female competitors on opposite sides of the net. So Charro Camara and Estevan De Hoyos were sailing into uncharted territory as they knocked up against the all lady pairing of Fradina Johnson and Isabella Lopez. Whether it was a fair contest is a debate left for another day but the unseeded Sargossan duo came through very comfortably, in straight sets, to give the underdogs a narrow lead going into the tie’s final day. A lead that vanished pretty quickly as Sayer dispensed with Tejano Alaníz in pretty short order but Aja, still stinging from two straight losses, fought long and hard against Elizabeth Hines, bouncing back from missing match points in the fourth set to take both the fifth set and the whole darn tie.

What? The quarter final? Are you quite sure? Apparently they were. With Electrum, an actual honest-to-goodness tennis nation, standing on the other side of the court. Once again the money went on a 5 – 0 loss. And once again the bookmakers proved to be the winners. Because something very strange happened during the first day of singles action, first Aja edged Samuel Gates in five sets, before Alaníz knocked over Mia Cassington in four. The Electrumites may not have brought their top players but both Cassington and Gates rank in the sportiverse’s top fifty so the form book was well and truly ripped apart and Sargossa held a 2 – 0 lead. No, really.

Gates returned for the doubles, where he was partnered with the 75th ranked Greg Meares, and normal service quickly resumed as the Electrum duo destroyed the regular Sargossan team of De Hoyos and Camara 6 – 0 in the opener. The second set was different to the first as night is to day, and was infinitely closer, but the experienced Electrumites stepped it up again to take it on a tiebreak. Inevitably the Sargossan team started playing with the freedom of men who didn’t really expect much from there on out, while their opponents took their feet off the pedal, so perhaps it wasn’t a huge surprise when Camara and De Hoyos struck back in set three. When they did it again in set four the Electrumites looked a little edgy. And when they did it again in set five both partnerships looked utterly shocked. It was a stunning win for the Sargossans, and one that saw them advance into the semi-finals courtesy of a shock 3 – 0 advantage in the tie. The shocks went on as 3 – 0 actually became 4 – 0 with Rodrigo Aja’s five set victory over Cassington on day three, until the Electrumites retained a modicum of pride when Gates beat Alaníz in the final match.

A semi-final place is beyond anyone’s expectations and fatigue, particularly with Rodrigo Alaníz, is certainly going to play a part but there was absolutely no chance of the players that had done so well against Devonta and Electrum losing their places. Neu Engollon await in the final four and, although we may be their betters on the football pitch, the tennis court is very much their turf. Any further upsets would seem unlikely but our boys will fight to the end, safe in the knowledge that they’ve done us proud.

"Good evening, Neu Engollon. I’m Dom Toglani, you’re watching the NETV Sports 19 Update. We are, or course, covering the finals of the International Tennis Trophy in Ceni.
If you haven’t watched the NETC team’s progress up to this point, well...I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t know why you’d be watching this update now, as you couldn’t be even a slight tennis fan.

I think that we’ve seen the phenomenon often enough, usually with rugby involved, but not usually tennis, where everything slows to a crawl or stops when the event, in this case the ITT, is on the telly. Everyone has rushed home from work, or convinced their boss to put the game on, or has it on their phone or tablet. The pubs are packed with those that want to share the experience with their friends. Anyone who makes a ruckus or distracts is shouted down. This is the Confederacy now. We are a sports fandom culture that hopes against odds that this will be the time we are rewarded for our dedication. All the disappointments over the last couple years, in football, hockey, gridiron, rugby and yes, even tennis, as we watched the world take down our athletes and dash those hopes time after time.

So, this isn’t the clincher night coming up for the NETC to win it, but it is the possible night for Ceni’s team to take it all and drag Neu Engollian hopes through the mud once more. We managed to catch up with Danjiella Zovic before she and Lizbet Rittenhaus take on the doubles team of Komang Antari and Kadek Andreawati, two of the top Cenians. Danjiella, thanks for joining us. This is your first time on the show, I believe..”

“My pleasure, Dom. Yes it is the first time you’ve interviewed me...and just, wow! Kind of putting the pressure on us there, aren’t you?”

“Sorry Danjiella. I guess I did a little bit.”

“That’s okay. We feel it enough.”

“Danjiella, did you think that you would all make it this far?”

“Simply, no. Not at all. I think the fact that some of the top ATP ranked players were absent from the tournament was a big boon to us. Also, I have to give credit to my teammates. They really have played their hearts out.”

“You’re being humble, as you have also played the best I think anyone has seen you ever play.”

“Well, thank you, Dom, but really, I can't do this alone. Especially considering I'm teamed with Lizbet. She's amazing!”

“That she is. What did you think of last night’s matches?...Of Marla and Paul’s performances.”

“They played the best they could. Well...Admittedly, Marla had a bad night and was way overmatched against Andy Amada. This was probably her worst match and I really feel for her. We all have them. Paul fared much better and really held out as long as he could against Botack Andiam. He took it to the very end.”

“He looked pretty exhausted, even just halfway into the match.”

“We’re all pretty exhausted, Dom. It’s been a long tournament and we just have us 4 players to carry us through.”

“Isn’t that what you wanted, though? You all presented a united front to Coach Huettenfeld asking not to be subbed out. That didn’t seem to me to be the best idea. You have had no down time...”

“The problem was that it was too late in the tournament for that. We were already into the quarters and semis...I mean, come on. We all were peaking and on fire. The bridge was already crossed for that. If he'd approached us earlier on in the tournament about the subbing, keeping us fresh, or made that decision on his own, it might have been a different story. We are so committed right now. Yeah, we’re worn out, but we’re still flying on adrenaline and I think we’re all using what downtime we can to recuperate post matches.”

“I understand. Fair enough. We will have to go to a break soon, but Danjiella, how do you see the NETC team chances against Ceni? I mean overall, not just in the doubles match tonight.”

“I know what you mean. We’re going to do the best we can, just like we have been doing. They’re tough, they’re pros, they’re champs, but I think we have the meddle to overcome the odds. That’s about all I can say, Dom.”

“Well spoken, Danjiella. Thanks for talking with us. I know you need to go get ready for your match.”

“I do. No problem, glad to talk at the folks back home. We appreciate their support.”

“Great. So, stay tuned folks, we’ll have more pre-match coverage after this sponsor break.”
