Cycling-The tour of Mattijana: OOC/Signups

Postby Mattijana » Mon Jul 27, 2015 1:37 am

Welcome to the signup thread for the inaugural tour of Mattijana, a two week tour of Mattijana's beautiful cities and countryside that will present the backdrop for a tough test of man and bike with hills, mountains and forests all playing a part.
The race will take place over 15 stages including an individual and a team time trial. The stage lengths will vary, but expect them to be completed in around five to six hours.

Schedule:

This Sunday-prologue, time trial around the city of Burgges
Tuesday-stage one, Burgges to lazov
Wednesday-stage two, Hakkina to Atterleke
Thursday-stage three-Monleke to sutmonleke
Friday -rest day, transfer to Matbirjke
Saturday- stage four, Matbirjke to Svetslosk
Sunday-stage five, Svetslosk to the Hollesbirjke
Monday-stage six, katosz to Puljanka
Tuesday-stage seven, Puljanka to Atlotsk
Wednesday-stage eight, time trial between Atlotsk and Revinka
Thursday-stage nine, Revinka to Sannasbirjke
Friday-stage ten, Letz to Petrovijanka

The main competition is the general classification where the overall stage times are added together and the rider with the shortest time wins. Also contested will be the points competition where riders earn points on designated sprint stages based on their stage finishing position. The final competition will be the team award, where both GC and points positions of all riders in a team are taken into account and points awarded based on these positions.

Points scoring system:
Win=10 points
2nd=6
3rd=4
4th=2
5th=1

Scorinators:
I will be using the 'men's mass start' event on Xkorinate.

How will you be handling DNFs? Will they be allowed to start the next race, or not at all? I've played around with an idea like this for a while, but I always found about 50% of contestants drop off as DNFs eventually.

I will allow DNfs to start, however they will be given a time five minutes down from the last finisher as a penalty.

Team: Crux Multinational (CRX)
Manager: Kent Agnew
Team leader and rider 1: Evan Hopkins, 9
Rider 2: Brian Redwood, 6
Rider 3: Connor Sharpe, 7
Rider 4: Ralph Winter, 8
Rider 5: Robert Gelding, 5

Reserve rider: Martin Tinker, 7

For IC purposes:

Crux Multinational is one of the top-level pro-cycling teams from the Union of Ko-oren. The Union of Ko-oren is a loose collection of 23 nations, and the Crux nations (called that because they are situated on or around Crux Island) are five of those 23. They are Waratah, Fern and Protea, the three situated on the island, and Milyu and Kang Rao, which are two separate nations on two separate islands.

There are other top-level pro-cycling teams for other parts of the Union, but Crux is the best one.

The riders themselves are from the following nations:
- Waratah: Evan Hopkis, Connor Sharpe, Martin Tinker
- Fern: Brian Redwood
- Protea: Ralph Winter, Robert Gelding

I want to quickly point out that the men's mass start in Xkoranate is set up to be run as a single-day road race, and is not suitable for scorinating a tour. There's an old tour-style Excel scorinator floating about somewhere, I created it and others subsequently made it better, but not sure in which direction to point you towards. Your best bet may be to do a quick forum search for it (or for past cycling tours).

There is a setting for a 'multi-run competition'. (Complete with Photographic evidence)

Yes. That's for an event like bobsleigh, for example, where you take the combined score from four runs. I'm not sure you're quite aware of what you're doing.

And in the GC and the points in road cycling, the combined time is taken over the total stages (which you could call runs). I also see telling me that I don't know what I'm doing as pretty rude and I think others would probably agree.

Except that the way xkoranate works, every single run will end in times that are similar from leg to leg, which would not happen in a proper tour.

That's how Xkorinate works, it's not really my problem. I'm sure there will be some variation which is good enough to make a fair result. its the mods job to police the forums, not your's to upstage events. I don't mind some constructive feedback, but not blatant criticisms to discredit events.

It is your problem. You're running the competition with a flawed scorination method. Also, the DNFs for each stage are not allowed to continue; xkorante automatically sidelines every participant for the rest of the competition if the participant has a DNF.

Now, if you're going to completely blow off the advice from someone who has actually ran a cycling event in the past, that's your choice. But that doesn't make him the villain; it makes the villain you.

This is what the Op has chosen, as he said he doesnt mind constructive critisism, but you and the other guy were just straight forward rude and its annoying to think people are like that.

I want to rp a legitimate sport after a successful Tour de France with a legitimate scorinator which everyone seems to think is the best out there and all I get from some people is abuse. I was quite looking forward to hosting a hassle-free event, but unless you've been on here for the last 10 years, that now seems to be impossible with you lot.

Thank you to everyone who has signed up. Another 4-6 teams would be an ideal number for the race.

Good luck with getting those extra 4-6 teams.

I'm back... Any lack of contact from me is now extremely dodgy.

I am also extending signups until Friday with the race beginning on Sunday.
