World Bowl 7: Everything Thread

Postby Dancougar » Tue Jun 16, 2009 6:01 pm

Welcome to World Bowl 7, the NS world's premier international American football competition. This thread will be used for rosters, RPs, scores, host announcements, and anything else that isn't OOC chatter (there's a Discussion Thread for that).

These are the pots for the group draw:

Pot 1: Dancougar, Newmanistan, Arroza, Qazox, Taeshan, Kura-Pelland
Pot 2: Sarzonia, Secristan, Vephrall, Fujisawan Territories, Cassadaigua, Lovisa

And these are the qualifying groups! Rosters are linked.

Teams will play the other teams in their group twice - home and away - for a total of 10 games. This is the planned schedule, with home team listed first.

MD1 (Mon June 22): 1v2 3v4 5v6
MD2 (Tue June 23): 1v3 2v5 4v6
MD3 (Wed June 24): 6v1 3v2 5v4
MD4 (Thu June 25): 4v1 6v2 5v3
MD5 (Fri June 26): 1v5 2v4 3v6
MD6 (Sun June 28): 2v1 4v3 6v5
MD7 (Mon June 29): 3v1 5v2 6v4
MD8 (Tue June 30): 1v6 2v3 4v5
MD9 (Wed July 1): 1v4 2v6 3v5
MD10 (Thu July 2): 5v1 4v2 6v3

The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage plus four wildcards drawn from the remaining teams. Tiebreakers and seeding will be determined as described in the Dancougar Bid for World Bowl 7. Stadiums to be used for the knockout round in Dancougar will be provided after the qualifying round ends.

MD11 (Sat July 4): Round of 16
MD12 (Sun July 5): Quarterfinals
MD13 (Mon July 6): Semifinals
MD14 (Tue July 7): Third Place
MD15 (Wed July 8): Championship
(Scorinating times may be erratic during the Fourth of July Weekend, but my trip has been set for July 9-11, so the World Bowl WILL be finished before I leave, pending emergencies.)

This post will be updated with the group draw on Friday June 19, around the usual scorination time, 10 PM eastern, barring any unforseen delays. Matchday one will be on Monday June 22. The qualification stage will be ten matches with bye day in the middle, meaning matchday ten will be on Thursday, July 2. Because it is currently unknown if I will be out the first weekend or second weekend of July, this arrangement ensures that we either have a long layoff before the knockout round, or the tournament will conclude before I leave.

Teams may begin posting rosters and roleplays for MD1... NOW!

Coaching Staff:

Head Coach: Vincenz Roehler
Offensive Coordinator: Kilian Riechert
Defensive Coordinator: Otto Dessloch

OFFENSE:
QB: Markus Kash
[ The captain of the team, and a three-time Tocrowkian Conference MVP award winner. Kash is almost your prototypical star quarterback. He has a cannon of an arm and uncanny instincts, able to pick out open receivers at the worst of times and nail them. But clocking in at 5'9', he's obviously a little shorter than your average QB. But that is only another plus for this lithe superstar, as he has plenty of hustle of his own, able to run and spin and dodge with the best of them. ]
RB: Siegfried Vater
[ Like Kash, Siegfried is a little smaller than league average at 5'10' and 156 pounds. But he is a fast little bugger and an expert at finding holes in the defensive line and advancing the ball a long way down the field. ]
FB: Adrian Kanker
[ Big and tall and strong, Adrian Kanker is an effective blocker, able to hold back multiple linemen at once. However, he also a decent runner and can plow through the line to gain some yards if need be. ]
WR: Mikel Westin
[ Perhaps the most iconic player on the team, Westin is awesome at what he does. He can catch, he can catch with style (making mind boggling acrobat catches frequently) and can run really, really fast down the field. Only three years into his career, and he all ready has a multi-million dollar contract. And he needs it, too. To go along with his athletic ability Westin has a massive ego and is as cocky as they come. His post-touchdown celebrations are some of the oddest and most egotistical you can think of. He does the river dance. He tangos with the cheerleaders. He jumps into the crowd, he pelvic thrusts. And along with all of those come a fine, of course, but with his contract, he can afford it. ]
WR: Noah Peukert
[ Not quite as renowned as Westin, but mostly because he doesn't make such an ass of him self in front of billions of people on television. Peukert also has uncanny ability as a wide receiver, especially when it comes to catching long bombs and catching when covered. ]
TE: Lars Kreuter
[ Very good as a blocker, and pretty good as a receiver. Lars, due to his towering size is a great blocker but rather slow. However, he is a reliable safety valve as he usually finds someway or another to get open at the last second. ]
RT: Jason Weidlich
[ An excellent blocker, the defense will find that Weidlich is essential a human wall, able to hold back even the largest of defenders without letting them get a shot at the quarterback. ]
RG: Wilhelm Palme
[ Similar to Weildlich, Palme presents a nigh immovable force to the defensive line and is a dependable guard. ]
C: Rolf Hase
[A dependable center. His snap is lightning quick and he is a good all around blocker, able to hold back any rushing defensive linemen for a few seconds to give his man a shot at any open reciever.
LG: Ronald Lucas
[ Like all the other guards, he's good at what he does and is able to hold back the defensive line long enough to hopefully advance the ball in whatever fashion. ]
LT: Axel Rüffert
[ Again, good at what he does. Has good footwork and is very agile, able to protect Kash for extended periods of time while he looks for an open receiver.]

DEFENSE:
CB: Derk Rehm
[ Derk is a solid corner back. Lean and agile, he can keep up with even the fastest of receivers and make their lives a living hell. He can swat the ball out of the air and pick passes off with great regularity and he has the wheels and the moves to make the other side pay when ever he does pick one. ]
FS: Werner Bonte
[ A prototypical free safety. Measuring in at only 5'9', 195 pounds Werner is still an annoying little SOB for the offense. His size means he'll often look like he's coming out of nowhere to assist the corner back in swatting the ball out of the air of tackling a receiver to the ground. ]
ROLB: Artur Weniger
[ This guy is really, really strong and can pretty much mash his way through the line to his target. One hit from him is usually all it takes to send somebody down. ]
RE: Johann Grauert
[ A solid defensive end, Grauert is able to hold is own and put serious pressure on the offensive line. ]
ILB: Markus Sands
[ Perhaps the MVP on the defensive side of the ball, Sands not only has the power to plow through the line, but he's freakishly fast as well. If he hits you, and he often does, you'll be feeling it all week. He's also a huge trash talker, and has a record for unnecessary roughness in tense games. ]
RDT: Paul Scheller
[ Though not as effective as Sands when it comes to plowing through the line, he is extremely good at blocking running plays through the line. ]
LDT: Curt Krauss
[ Like Scheller, he's an effective tackle and good at stopping running plays, but mediocre when it comes to moving through the line. ]
LE: Albert Hirschmann
[ Like his counter-part on the right side, he's a solid end with good agility, able to zig-zag through linemen and put pressure on the offense. ]
SS: Jacob Schellong
[ A good short safety and, as is typical, larger than Bonte in order to handle the strong side of the offense. ]
LOLB: Rudolf Ebner
[ Strong, but not as much as Weniger. Fast, but not as fast as Sands. He falls in between them, still a good solid defensive player. ]
CB: Elmar Meister
[ Pretty much Rehm's twin, only a couple of years younger and a few inches taller. Able to make acrobatic blocks and snag the ball away from receivers with alarming regularity. ]

Special Teams:
K: Xaver Falkenhorst
[ 13 year veteran of the TGL, though he's getting on in year's his still a solid leg and can nail some pretty impressive field goals from what seems like a mile away. ]
P: Sigurt Wilms
[ An undrafted free-agent that has managed to impress through two solid seasons as a punter. Can kick it deep into enemy territory. ]
KR: Clemens Fuchs
[ Fast and agile, if you give him an inch he'll take a mile on ya. ]

Arroza Admirals

Coach: Darius “Lucky” Miller
Miller, the new coach of the Admirals was one of the few coaches that wasn't harmed by the match-fixing scandal that rocked several nations and almost destroyed the Arrozan Domestic league after it was found out that former coach Tahlequah had been point shaving to let other Atlantic Oceania teams into the playoffs two years ago.

If you RP a game before me / permission box:
Choose my scorers: Yes
Choose scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Yes [just not the runningbacks, please]
Godmod injuries: No
Godmod "other" events: Yes, just please try to take into effect what's already been said about our country, i.e. a blizzard hitting Arroza probably isn't a good idea.

Team Mentality: Determined
Well, a name change doesn't change everything unfortunately as the Tar Hornets / Admirals were lost in the semifinals to [deleted] for seemingly the millionth time. Now with the team willing to play for their new coach, and the team having shed their ego that came from the hangover of winning World Bowl V, the Admirals have been single-minded in training for this competition.

Offense [Triple Option/Flexbone]:
Based on a strong line that pushes off the ball and looks to open up holes every play for the multitude of backs that come through Arroza. The Admirals are still running the traditional triple option, even though in the last few World Bowls, it's shown that there's a problem both in coming back from late game deficits, and against certain teams.

First Team:
#5 QB: Selmon Baliss (29, Big Thicket Cavalry)
Winning the World Bowl 4 years ago has placed Baliss on a level of celebrity few Arrozan athletes have ever known, and his play domestically has suffered as his ego expanded. The disappointing 3rd place finish in World Bowl VI was the end of his ego.

#23 HB: Donovan Hailey (29, Big Thicket Cavalry)
Humbled by the seemingly inevitable loss to [deleted] in the playoffs, Hailey has spent the last two years working himself into a frenzy. Now as the #1 back for the Admirals, we get to see if the self-proclaimed “Greatest Show on Earth” combination of Baliss and Hailey can win the day.

#25 RB: Roger Seabrook (25, Atalanta Senators)
For years Seabrook has been a second team runningback with the burden of being called the next Chavez. He just want to bring his hard-nosed running style to the forefront and become the first Roger Seabrook.

#45 FB: Elmore Coffin (28, Gold Spring Stallions)
Finishes blocks with a ruthless intensity not normally seen outside of a videogame. As far as he's concerned, the only good linebacker is a pancaked linebacker.

#88 TE: Salomon Arraza (30, Biloxoulaport Seabees)
Definitely more of a finesse player than the Admirals have previously had at this position.

#89 WR: Taesean Malone (28, Huracan Tropicals)
The league's leading receiver, Malone's developed experience to go along with the mountain of raw talent. If he can hook up with Baliss, he'll be a dangerous option when defenses start to focus too much on the run game.

#65 T: Donald Haskill (28, Big Thicket Cavalry)
#67 T: Hector Laredo (30, Aransas County Sea Stars)
#63 C: Harun Marasseh (30, Port Lange Archers)
#64 G: Garrett Phillips (32, Aransas County Sea Stars)
#60 G: Michael Forrest (25, Pine Forest United)

Substitutes:

#7 QB: Patrick Fawcett (24, Northland Cannons)
#1 QB: Jason Quintille (23, Santos Apaches)
#29 RB: Lazaro Connelly (26, Biloxoulaport Seabees)
#22 RB: (20, Calcasieu Cajuns)
#26 RB: (22, Refinery Firebirds)
#44 FB: Stanley Graham (24, Big Thicket Cavalry)
#84 TE: Matt Herrera (25, Northland Cannons)
#81 WR: Luke Hollam (30, Huracan Tropicals)
#65 T: (25, Saint Simona Conquerors)
#66 G: Andrew Florez (24, F.C. Atalanta)
#69 C: Robert Rook (30, Lincolnton Suns)

Defense: 4-4.
Not the biggest in the world, the Arrozan defenses pride themselves on their tactical knowledge and their speed. These two ideas, when combined in the Arrozan D, normally mean opponents get to see a varying array of zone, man, and option coverages, with blitzes coming in from all angles, and interceptions going the other way for 6 points.

#95 NT: John Kirchner (24, Biloxoulaport Seabees)
Kirchner has big shoes to fill, taking ths slot of “Big Nasty” Johnson. Kirchner though has looked to be the type of player that can do it though, now we get to see if his skill is his, or an effect of playing with the dominant Seabee defense.

#94 NT: Roger Mayfield (23, Atalanta Senators)
Senator Football Chant: He's big, he's mean, his family makes ice cream, Roger Mayfield! Heir to the Mayfield ice cream dynasty [don't laugh, Arroza is a hot place, ice cream sells well.], Mayfield has always wanted to prove himself in some other way.

#99 DE: Joseph Reed (32, Biloxoulaport Seabees)
Commands a double team on almost every passing down. The bookend of him and Charles may become the best tandem in Arrozan history.

#98 DE: Raibonne Charles (32, Biloxoulaport Seabees)
The combination of Reed and Charles, terrorizing defenses for six World Bowls, and 10 seasons in the AFL. This World Bowl has got to be their last one unfortunately as time is catching up to the both of them. They have gotten used to each other to the point of almost being psychic on the d-line.

#52 OLB: Fremont Cannon (29, Atalanta Senators)
Blitz specialist, Cannon loves to get around the defensive end on blitzes and demolish quarterbacks from their blind side.

#50 OLB: Antwan Lineville (29, Queen's Bay Submariners)
Lineville toils away in obscurity for his hometown Submariners, but is undoubtedly good enough to make this squad.

#56 MLB: Pollux Hall (28, Pine Forest United)
The Hall twins, Castor and Pollux are both built to play the Arrozan style of defense. Undersized, but able to drop back in coverage and make up for the formation's lack of safeties, or fast enough to get through the line and punish offensive skill players.

#58 MLB: Denzel Person (30, Evangeline Seraphs)
The “Angel of Death” is more well known for his off-field antics than his on-field play, especially after supposedly stabbing a man to death in a Resurgens bar and having the charges dropped. On the field, he's just as punishing though as a aggressive run-stopper and blitzer.

#24 CB: Jeremy Beaumont (27, Aransas County Sea Stars)

#33 CB: Calvin Brandon (31, F.C. Atalanta)
Good at anticipating plays, and leads the domestic league in interceptions.

#30 S: Caron Saint-Marais (30, Resurgens Flames)
He didn't just lead the league in interceptions for safeties...he doubled the second place finisher.

Defensive Subs:

#92 DT: Richard Stacy (25, Atalanta Senators)
#95 DT: Johnathan Shjij (21, Tyndall Eagles)
#93 DE: David Edwards (24, Farragut Torpedoes)
#97 DE: Frank Paine (25, Atalanta Senators)
#51 LB: Castor Hall (28, Refinery Firebirds)
#54 LB: Victor Padilla (26, Evangeline Seraphs)
#57 LB: Zachary Gaston (25, Atalanta Senators)
#55 LB: Donovan Birmingham (23, Pine Forest United)
#20 CB: Reuben Channelview (21, S.F.A. Texans)
#2 CB: Rimer Vinings (27, Pine Forest United)
#24 S: Linus Lincecum (29, Farragut Torpedoes)
#8 S: Olorun Mayfield (27, Resurgens Flames)

Special Teams:

#4 K: Drew Albrect (41, F.C. Atalanta)
The old man just won't quit. He's almost reached legendary status in Arroza after 6 go-rounds with the National Team. He can still kick through a hurricane, and that's exactly what's needed in the swirling wind conditions of Fletcher Field.

#13 P: Tyler Edmiston (36, Way Path Pioneers)
#2 KR: Rimer Vinings (27, Pine Forest United)

[big ups to Chetssaland for finding that uniform maker]

Re: World Bowl 7: Everything Thread

Postby The Fanboyists » Wed Jun 17, 2009 10:58 am

The Vienna Barrons, as per Federation rules, are representing the Federal Republic as the national team after winning the Federal Bowl, the Fanboyist equivalent of the Super Bowl, over the Carnegie Ironmongers in a 24-6 game, finishing the season with an 18-2 record (both losses were overtime losses, generally considered bad luck, or "shit happens" losses). This is the first appearance of any Fanboyist athletic team in an international tournament or event (including the World Bowl), so this will be a major test as to whether or not the teams of the Federal Republic can truely compete on an international level.

Team: Barrons
City: Vienna
Stadium: Barrons Stadium, Vienna (Capacity: about 125,000, Turf Field)
Team Colors: Royal Blue, Silver, Burgundy
Head Coach: Wilhelm Studdenberger

Mentality: Excited, Mildly Anxious
As four-time Fanboyist Champs, the Barrons are no strangers to fairly large games, though nothing on the scale of the World Bowl Championship. Because of this, the Barrons are anxious to show the world what they can do, but are a little nervous about the prospect as well.

Offense:
The Barrons use a spread offense, though having a strong line and running back corps, so running is the Barrons' strength, though the introduction of a dynamic quarterback two seasons previously, Dane Zacks, prompted an increase in passes, screens, and trick plays in the team's aresenal. Two-point conversions are attempted whenever it is logical.

Defense:
The Barrons are all about hitting hard and up-front. They use a 4-3 set-up (though they have been known to fall back on a 30-stack), largely, and place a large emphasis on strong pass rushes and blitzing. The secondary is strong enough, but is not such that it can be called a major strength of the team. The Barron's defense is largely what allowed them to win the FNFL Championship, as it gave adequete breathing room for the offense to work.

The Bettian WorldBowl 7 Squad - Enter The Dragons Aroras!

The Cymdeithas Gridiron Bettiaidd (Bettian Gridiron Association) has announced the 47-man squad representing the nation - the Bettia Aroras. In keeping with your average Bettian's Takilan leanings, spectators can be sure of plenty of ambitious passing plays and a lot of blitzes (or at least, attempted blitzes). The coaching staff have also been preparing the team rigorously, with special emphasis on going for two-point conversion plays at every opportunity - that's the Bettian side of the team psyche again, always wanting to score as much as possible without bothering to consider the consequences.

Style Modifier: +3
Two-Point Conversions: Always

The First BAPTISM of IRON Champs return for a 3rd time, and look to improve the horrid showing at WB VI.

The Prux PIRATES
will use a +1 offensive style and got for 2 at every oppertunity!
STADIUM: Statesmen Field, Pruxton, Prux. Capacity: 57,900. Astroturf field... Hah! (think Veteran's Stadium type-turf, meaning injuries!)

OFFENSE: FlexBone
(For more info on Flexbone see this wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flexbone_formation
Usually the Flexbone is an option heavy running style, but with RB that have good hands, the formation, which utilizes pre-snap motion, can allow for big passes downfield on occasion. The main drawback to the Flexbone is the timing of the option plays and the lack of WR. An advantage is ball control and time of possession.

QB: Juan Pablo Sandoval
WB: Chad Henry
FB: Tyrone Gifford
HB: Ryan Adams
WR: Craig Johnson
TE: Ollie a'Hai
LT: Quentin Haroldssen
LG: Eric Swann
C: David Haddal
RG: Sean Addison
RT: Frank Vaughn

NORMAL FLEXBONE FORMATION
Code: Select all
WR    LT LG C RG RT  TE
  WB    QB    HB
  FB

DEFENSE: 4-4
The 4-4 allows a better attack of an opponents running game, but does so by sacrificing a defensive back. If sed with the right personnel, one of the ILB acts as the 4th DB, usually covering a TE or HB. Advantages include better blitz lanes for LBs and a more general pressure on the QB. Disadvantages include weakened pass defense and a suscceptablity to over-the-middle pass plays.

LE: Raymond Chadd
DT: Hank Johnsen
DT: David De'jean
RE: Adam Fraley
LOLB: Brian Hobbes
LILB: Craig Nelson
RILB: Ryan Xany
ROLB: Charles Reynolds
LCB: Adam Kinsey
RCB: Jeff Bandle
FS: Jasyson Jones

NORMAL 4-4
Code: Select all
LE  DT  DT  RE
OLB ILB ILB OLB
LCB      FS     RCB

SPECIAL TEAMS:
K: Daniel O'Craeg
P: Brian Middleton
KR/PR: Issac Seans
CHAMPIONS: Baptism of Fire 24 (Hosted by: Sel Appa);
CHAMPIONS: World Cup of Hockey 5 (Hosted by: Kelssek);
CHAMPIONS: Baptism of Iron I (World Bowl V hosted by Newmanistan)
4th place: CoH 31 & 36.
Qualified for WORLD CUPs 42, 43, 45 and 46.

The Big Games Approach
June 18th, 2009
--Vienna--
By Franz Dreyse, World Bowl Special Correspondent

Today the Vienna Barrons gridiron team returned home from their pre-World Bowl team camp, to begin preparations for their first game in the World Bowl, to be played Monday against the Babbage Island team. This game will be the Barrons' first game played at an international level, and the players are excited, though some confess to being a little nervous.

"Its a big deal for us," Barrons Quarterback Dane Zacks (#16, Barrons) said after practice yesterday. "This isn't just our first truely big game, its the first one for any Fanboyist team. If we look like fools, we'll make the Federation look like a bunch of fools too, athletics-wise, at least. We're going to be making the statement for the country."

The competition at the World Bowl looks to be tough, but Defensive Tackle Danny Rickenbacher (#62, Barrons) said the Barrons are up to it. "If you remember, the Carnegie boys were pretty tough, too. These guys don't really look any tougher than that. I don't know if we're a slam dunk for the championship, but don't go writing us off. I reckon we're as good as anyone out here."

Head Coach Wihelm Studdenberger sounds confident as well. "We have a strong offense, when it gets the room it needs to build momentum, and we've got a pretty damn good defense to give it that room. I reckon good defense will shut down a good number of these teams, if we play as hard as we should, and we don't let ourselves get blindsided. If you recall, we only lost twice in the FNFL season, and both of those were OT losses at the beginning of the year. We didn't finish in those, didn't finish every play on the ball, didn't keep going until the ball hit the ground and that whistle blew and the horn blared. We didn't finish what we started. We learned our lesson from that. We're not going to let something like this slip away, like we did against the Crusaders and the Wolverines. We're going to be hitting hard every play, one hundred percent. Eleven hats on the ball. That's really all you can do. Its who can slog it out better, and I think we can do that better than many of the teams out here."

The Barrons play against the Babbage Islands team on the night of June 22nd, at home at Barrons Stadium, starting at about 8:00pm FEAT.

Postby Dancougar » Fri Jun 19, 2009 8:00 pm

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the group draw for World Bowl 7, which will be held three months from today in Dancougar. Before that, each team's mettle will be tested, with six groups of six battling for a spot in the knockout round by playing ten qualifying matches against the other teams in their group. The victors will return here to play for the world title.

The group draw will be conducted by his royal highness Prince Daniel accompanied by voice actress Keiko Minami, whose career began as Erika Terajima in the gridiron anime Pretty Sportsman Erika, which never quite caught on overseas for reasons we can't explain. Your highness, please draw the first group!

GROUP A
Vephrall
Barbana
Newmanistan
Palmouth
Norwellia
Scandavian States

The Newmanistan Rockets are the defending runners-up after losing their second title game to the Dancougar Black Wings in as many attempts. Their chief rivals will be Vephrall, although Norwellia could be a dark horse if they're able to get their creative offense up-and-running. Minami-san, please draw the next group.

GROUP B
Secristan
Delaclava
Vartican
Iglesian Archipelago
Lanceo
Dancougar

The Wings, who are defending their record third world title, will attempt to qualify out of Group B and will no doubt face a stiff challenge from Secristan. Secristan are the only team to ever beat them at home, and no doubt the Millionaires will want to repeat the feat. Delaclava and Lanceo have shown what they're capable of in the Baptism of Iron, with the former taking the title. Your highness, let's get the next group, please!

GROUP C
Kura-Pelland
Prux
Holy Marsh
Fujisawan Territories
Kjoma Isles
Lurikastan

Kura-Pelland are the power here, while the Fujisawan Territories will want to erase memories of the previous tournament where they were beaten thrice by the Black Wings, including a quarterfinal exit. The Kjoma Isles and Holy Marsh have returned after a self-imposed absence from international play, and we're almost frightened to see what Prux's latest gang of unorthodox athletes are capable of doing. Minami-san, let's see the next group!

GROUP D
Taeshan
Quakmybush
Allanea
Chetssaland
Ameriganastan
Lovisa

The Fitin' Falcons must be salivating, since they have the weakest opposition of all the top-seeds, at least on paper. Silent Assassins Lovisa can never be discounted, though, and Chetssaland were the runners-up in the Baptism of Iron, so they could also provide trouble. Of course, every team could like their chances, since Taeshan's traditionally playing style almost guarantees a low-scoring game. But... you never know! Your highness, please draw the next group.

GROUP E
Qazox
Steroga
The Fanboyists
The Babbage Islands
Cassadaigua
Tocrowkia

The Qazox Pheonix will bring their high-octane offense to bear on Tocrowkia, who will be gunning for a playoff spot after slowly but surely building up experience over the previous tournaments. Those of you hoping to see nothing but beautiful women on the Cassadaigua bench will be sad to learn that they do allow some men to play gridiron, although Dancougar's many manga and anime shops can fill in whatever you're missing. Did I just say that out loud? Minami-san, please conclude the draw!

GROUP F
Sibirsky
Jagada
Bluth Corporation
Arroza
Bettia
Sarzonia

This group looks like it could be pretty deep, with the third place team from World Bowl 6, Arroza, leading the pack against a strong Sarzonia team and the Bluth Corporation. Bluth have played well in the past and will almost certainly provide the best marching band out of all the entrants. The Aroras of Bettia return after a long absence.

That concludes the draw for World Bowl 7! There will be ten matchdays in all with one bye week, and unlike the basketball tournament, we've actually mixed up the home and away fixtures this time! Good luck all participants, and we look forward to welcoming the qualifiers back to Dancougar.

WorldBowl VIICoverage

Qazox has a difficult group ahead of them, facing Cassidaigua and Tocrowkia, both dangerous teams, along with newcomers Steroga, The Fanboyists and The Babbage Islands.

The QOX Sports Schedule: (all HOME games @ SaxerDome, SaxerVilla and all times are QST (QST= -5.5GMT)

WEEK 1: vs. Steroga (6:00 pm Kickoff)
WEEK 2: vs. The Fanboyists (6:00 pm Kickoff)
WEEK 3: @ Tocrowkia (Rehbein Field, Pharamas; 10:30 am kickoff)
WEEK 4: @ The Babbage Islands (TBD; 10:30 am Kickoff)
WEEK 5: vs. Cassidaigua (12:00 pm Kickoff)
    WEEK 6: @ Steroga (11:00 am Kickoff)
WEEK 7: @ The Fanboyists (@ Barrons Stadium, Vienna; 11:00 am Kickoff)
WEEK 8: vs. Tocrowkia (12:00 pm kickoff)
WEEK 9: vs. The Babbage Islands (8:00 pm Kickoff)
WEEK 10: @ Cassidaigua (Concord Heights, 2:30 pm Kickoff)

On the looks of it, Qazox could finish anywhere from 6-4 to 9-1. The toughest games are the trips to Tocrowkia and Cassadaigua, while Qazox should be the favorite for the remaining games.

It's the third World Bowl for the Nordics, and the group draw is in. It places Nordic Nation in Group E, alongside tough opponents Cassidaigua and Qazox. After managing to squeak by with a 6-and-6 record in what was unarguably the toughest group in that tournament, the Nordics and their fans are ready to finally take that next step into the play-offs, and it could happen this year. "It was tough." Vincenz Roehler said of last years World Bowl. "But we got some impressive wins off of top ranked teams. And I'm not saying that it won't be tough this year, but it's definitely not as tough." Going through the training camp, we also caught up with everyone's favorite quarterback, Markus Kash and got his thoughts on his teams chances.

"Well things are still going to be challenging. They always are when you have to play a team like Qazox." He said, pausing to get a drink of gator-aid. "Still I know our fans our hungry to breath that play-off air, and believe me so are we. You can see how we've improved and I really think we stand as good as chance as anyone else out there when it comes to qualifying." he said. The Nordics do have more than just an outside shot of qualifying this year, but as always it comes down to execution, not chances and odds. But if nothing else, the Nordics of Tocrowkia are determined. They're back for the third time in the World Bowl despite going the last two times without play-off berths. They're back in the World Cup of Hockey despite not scoring a single goal last time. Tocrowkia is sure to become a force in international sports sooner or later.

The Road Ahead
June 20th, 2009
---Vienna---
By Franz Dreyse

The drawing of the pots has been determined, and the schedule for the Barrons for the next ten games is now set in stone. Based on how well they do in this preliminary round, the Barrons may or may not advance to the playoff component of the World Bowl International Championship
.
The Barrons have been assigned to Group E, consisting of:

GROUP E
Qazox
Steroga
The Fanboyists
The Babbage Islands
Cassadaigua
Tocrowkia

The Barrons' schedule for the qualifying rounds is as follows:

Game 1 - vs. Babbage Islands, Barrons' Stadium, Vienna, 8:00 pm FEAT
Game 2 - @ Qazox, SaxerDome, SaxerVilla, 8:00 pm FEAT
Game 3 - vs. Steroga, Barrons' Stadium, Vienna, 8:00 pm, FEAT
Game 4 - @ Cassadaigua, Concord Heights Stadium, Concord Heights, 8:00 pm FEAT
Game 5 - vs. Tocrowkia, Barrons' Stadium, Vienna, 8:00pm FEAT
Game 6 - @ Babbage Islands, Dolphins Stadium, Dover, 8:00pm FEAT
Game 7 - vs. Qazox, Barrons' Stadium, Vienna, 8:00pm FEAT
Game 8 - @ Steroga, Kumar Field, 8:00pm FEAT
Game 9 - vs. Cassadaigua, Barrons' Stadium, Vienna, 8:00pm FEAT
Game 10 - @ Tocrowkia, Rehbein Field, Pharamas, 8:00pm FEAT

Vienna will be playing against tough opponents in the form of Qazox, a veteran of many World Bowls, and tough Tocrowkia and Cassadaigua squads are looking to put a hurt on our own National Champs. It is reasonable to assume that the Barrons stand a reasonable chance against Babbage Islands and Steroga, and victory against Qazox, Tocrowkia and Cassadaigua are not out of the question, but the road ahead does indeed look tough.

Over the last week and a half, the Barrons have, in collaboration with other FNFL teams, been playing scrimmages against the best in the league every other day. Scrimmages have been played against the Carnegie Ironmongers, Nashville Wolverines, Oviedo Crusaders, Rome Legion, and the Tuscaloosa Crimson Tide, all with favorable results for the Barrons.

Even if the Barrons do not make it to the play-off component of the Championship, these ten games will provide valuable experience for the first Fanboyist team to play internationally, and give confidence to other Fanboyist teams and act as a steppingstone in the FNAA (Fanboyist National Athletics Alliance) quest to make Fanboyist teams forces to be reckoned with on the field and models of international citizenship off the field.

And they are slowly eroded, bit by little bit, on the very beaches where they measure triumph, by countless grains of sand. By the stubborn little decencies of humble little men." -Eric Flint, Belisarius II: In The Heart of Darkness

X Island Inquirer

It is time for another year of football for the Taeshan National football Teams Fitin' falcons. Taking on 5 others in a six team group, the Falcons look to have gotten the luck of the draw with Lovisa, Chessaland, Allanea, Ameriganistan, and quakmybush in the Group. Each of these countries is liable to pose a threa to the Falcons, but like once before it looks like the Falcons may have an easy trip through the Group Stage that will show when they possibly lose the first playoff round game. Now we would a,ll hate for this to heppen so hopefully at least one of these teams will make them work for it.

These 5 teams are mostly unknowns to us. Even though we have played quakmybush and Lovisa before and seen who they were they always seem to be plaqayers among the mist and far off from what a normal person could wish to see. The other 3 are all newbies and could or may not be the threat the Falcons want, but either way they will have to find some way to make this all fun for them.
