BAPTISM OF FIRE - 37TH EDITION
Cafundéu & Macabees

"It is with great pleasure that I welcome all the participating teams to this Baptism of Fire, the only you'll be participating! Most of you are playing your first international football competition, while another one is the creator of the whole World Cup thing in this world. But well... the Baptism of Fire is an unique championship, one that your players will surely work hard to achieve the victory. The spotlights will be all on you, with the whole world following the games involving your National Teams. After this, you'll receive ranking points as a recognition of your performance in this competition, as you go on to face the other countries in the world in the World Cup qualifiers.

And your first stop is in Cafundéu or The Second Empire, known also as The Macabees, the two host countries of the event. Two countries with share some characteristics, but that have some impressive differences too... a representative of The Macabees will arrive soon to introduce you to his country, while I'll talk to you about Cafundéu right now. Here, you'll have to pay for everything. First of all, there is a cost for stepping on Cafundelense soil. Then you'll pay more usual costs as the one of crossing the street, the one of asking a question, the one for wearing a green shirt, which is an expensive one, the one for entering a public building, for being in a place with the air conditioning on... just a few examples of all the taxes we have here, without forgetting the classic "costs' costs" or "taxes' taxes". We are all anxious to see the talent of your players, and the size of your pockets.

The competition format is of 8 groups of 6 teams, with 48 participant teams. Top 4 of each group will go to the knockout round, until only one remains. Half of the competition will happen in Cafundéu, and the other half in The Macabees. The draw was already made, with the participation of one of the most famous and loved - well, I'm not sure about this - commentators of the world: Breno Gavião! I'm sure you'll like him.

So, from now you can start sending to us your list of players and staff (a.k.a. roster) and releasing your first media comments of the competition. I hope you all have a good participation in this Baptism of Fire - and I expect that this will be a good start - or return - for you in the international scene."

The Scout
President of the CCFM

OOC: that's it, the Baptism of Fire has started from now. The group draw will happen on Monday, with the first matchday to be scorinated on Wednesday. Before this, you can post your roster (the list of players/staff/anything else/basic details of your country) in this thread, which will contain everything about this Baptism of Fire. When posting your roster, you're encouraged to post also a RP permissions box, where you'll note which things you allow when others RP things involving your team:

If my opponent RPs first, he/she can:
Choose my scorers? Yes/No
Yellow card my players? Yes/No
Red card my players? Yes/No
Injure my players? Yes/No
Godmode injuries? Yes/No
Godmode scoring events? Yes/No
Godmode other events? Yes/No

Also, RPing is very important in the Baptism of Fire, and this edition won't be different. The RP bonus in the scorinator that will be used is already a good one even in other events, so in the BoF it'll be even more decisive (as all countries have no ranking points). So, the more (and better) you RP, better will be our chances (but, as ever, a win is far from completely guaranteed).

This is a default post with information about Cafundéu. Any extra informations can be asked, and will be answered in details.

Map of Cafundéu (slightly bigger version here):
Image

Country details:

Country Name:
Conventional long form: The Monopolist Empire of Cafundéu (or simply the Monopoly of Cafundéu)
Conventional short form: Cafundéu

Government type: Federal Semi-Constitutional Monarchy (current leader is the Prince Regent Miguel I, until the heir to the throne completes 18 years of age)

Capital: Cafundó do Juta

Official language: Portuguese

Main National Holidays: Empire Day (03/01); Carnival (a whole week in February or March); Holy Day (12/10); Jaçanã Rebellion Day (22/06); Emperor's Cup Final (25/05).

Popular sports: Football (2nd: Volleyball; 3rd: Futsal; 4th: Handball; 5th: Bocce; 6th: Swimming; 7th: Basketball; 8th: Tennis; 9th: Billiards; 10th: Cock-Fighting).

Background Detail: Nothing too absurd or unreal, like aliens or monsters appearing or magical events, happens in Cafundéu. But please note that in Cafundéu you'll have to pay for almost everything. You'll have to pay for the water, food, transport, products, to walk in the road, to receive an answer about something, to complain, to thank, and many other things. Cafundéu is also looking to profit in any competition, so any country with good economy is free to invest here or buy some of our products. Drugs are prohibited and the laws are very strict. The prisons are horrible and the prisoners live in bad conditions, but they have the right to watch the games in Carandirú City for free. Cafundéu's press is also very annoying, as they'll make everything to get some news. The government is an Empire, divided in states. The Emperor (currently Prince Regent) has many powers, but he divides them with the Counselor-Ministers (there are 20 of them). The only Counselor-Minister that can disagree with the Emperor is the Head Counselor (which is elected and cannot be fired), as any other can be simply fired by the Emperor. Also, as Cafundéu is a big country, it has been divided in 8 states, and each state has its Governor and Senators. Elections happen in Cafundéu, and the people elect the Governors, Senators, Deputies, Mayors, Aldermen and the Head Counselor.

About travelling, it's very easy to find planes going to Cafundéu. But, once inside the country, poor people will find many difficulties in travelling. To use the highways, you need to pay. To use the streets, you need to pay. About food, there are many restaurants that serve different kinds of food. But the common Cafundelense usually eats a lot of rice, beans, meat (especially this, visit a Cafundelense "churrascaria" to see it) and potato-related food. Criminality is average. You also will have to hear many beggars asking for help as you walk on the street.

Stadiums Used: for the Baptism of Fire, the government has decided to just use the same stadiums used in World Cup 48, as the stadiums are still in good conditions and there is no need to take one of the cities out, or build new stadiums. But, as there are many games to be played, 8 new cities will have the honour to host games

Image
Arena América
City: Abadia
City Detials: this city is known for its strange division of neighborhoods. Each neighborhood has a respective leader, which represents it in the city hall. And most leaders represent a family. These families are very powerful in the city and control almost everything. The city is very big, but has some old traditions that are still unchanged. The Arena América is currently considered the 2nd best stadium of the country, just behind the Obelisco Monumental. Many people say that you can see many UFOs in the sky while in Abadia, so the media call Abadia the E.T. city.
Used by: A.F.F.
Size of City/Stadium Location: big city, biggest of the State. Stadium is located near an airport, in a calm neighbourhood.
Climate: warm and wet (medium rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 120,000.
Infrastructure: *****

Image
Velho Olímpico Imperial
City: Lux
City Details: has the highest IDH in the country and one of the highest in the world. So, it’s considered one of the best cities to live. It has good security, education and healthcare, but nothing very interesting to tourists. The stadium was built to hold different sports, but became immediately famous for the comfort that it offers to the supporters. The Royal Family often travels to Lux to rest, as this is seen as a good city in the mountains to spend some quiet moments.
Used by: Clube Comercial.
Size of City/Stadium Location: medium city, capital of the State. Stadium is located in one of the most expensive neighbourhoods, surrounded by mansions.
Climate: cold and wet (medium rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 80,000.
Infrastructure: *****

Image
Obelisco Monumental
City: Lasft
City Details: second biggest city of the country, Lasft is more beautiful than Cafundó do Juta, since it’s on the seaside. People from all around the world come to Lasft every year because of its marvelous beaches. It also is the headquarters of the CCFM, so most of the football-related decisions are made there. The stadium is the most beautiful of the country, with clean bathrooms and an organized restaurant, and the Empire doubled the number of seats for the World Cup 36, changing the appearance of the stadium completely. The number of seats was mantained this time, as it can't be expanded anymore. It’s also the capital of sports in Cafundéu, home of the country’s Olympic Committee and many other organizations associated with Sport. There is a big rivalry between Lasft and Cafundó do Juta to decide which is the richest city of the country. Host of WC final.
Used by: Petardos S/A.
Size of City/Stadium Location: huge city, capital of the State. Stadium is located in the centre of the city, close to the commerce zone.

Image
Estádio Erasmo Carlos Jowenguard
City: Espinal
City Details: tourists come to Espinal because of its big local parties, which happen due to the big amount of universities in the area. As the city is located on the seaside, its beaches are much visited too, although the government has some problems with violence. The city is also respected because of its social programs, giving assistance to the poorer citizens, and is the home of the republican leaders. But the country isn’t much important for businesses. The stadium is considered a good one to play in, due to the good conditions of the field. The name is an homage to the old CCFM president.
Used by: public stadium, used by União Trabalhadora and Espinalense.
Size of City/Stadium Location: big city, capital of the State. Stadium is located in an industrial neighbourhood.
Climate: hot and wet (medium rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 60,000.
Infrastructure: ****

Image
Presídio
City: Carandirú City
City Details: this city was very interesting in the past, but now it’s only used to hold prisoners. Cafundéu’s main police station is located there, too. It’s the prison city, but is very safe and has many exotic food shops. The stadium is located inside the main prison of the city, and most of the prisoners see the games, so, some players can have some problems in holding the pressure, as the prisoners usually like to shout at the players. Outside the prison, you can see some museums about the police and the prison, but you won’t find many things interesting apart from the ones Police-related.
Used by: Ranca Toco.
Size of City/Stadium Location: big city, 3rd biggest of the State. The stadium is located inside the prison.
Climate: hot and dry (low rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 77,500.
Infrastructure: *****

Image
Maracatuzão
City: Dunboor
City Details: this city is big, but it isn’t too visited by tourists, because of its very cold climate. But it’s good for the industry and has the biggest mines of the country. It’s jewelry and coal factories are the most important of the country. During the winter, it snows nearly everyday in Dunboor. The supporters there like to bring musical instruments to the stadium. It also has many theaters, and good plays are held there. The stadium is perfectly round and very beautiful. Was expanded, and completely changed. So, a city with love for art and music, with many festivals being held there.
Used by: Dunboor FC.
Size of City/Stadium Location: big city, capital of the State. The stadium is located in a good residential area, a typical one.

Image
Estádio Rei Albieri Van Tocco
City: Cafundó do Juta
City Details: capital of the country, is a big metropolis, with many things to do, many clubs, good nightlife and shops, and also many points for tourism. The police is well funded. The city is the most important for the economy of the country, and for the politics too, being the centre of the government, held in the Praça de São Jorge (St. George’s Square). It is the headquarters of the Bovacaf, Cafundéu’s stock market’s main building. This stadium was expanded for World Cup 42, with this surpassing Praça Maior as the biggest stadium of the city. It is a 1-hour of travel away from the seaside, the city of Tijhus.
Used by: Clube Imperial.
Size of City/Stadium Location: huge city, capital of Cafundéu. The stadium is located in one of the many economic centres of the city, surrounded by skyscrapers.
Climate: warm and wet (high rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 210,001.
Infrastructure: *****

Image
Estádio Nacional dos Cocos
City: Porto Lacruz
City Details: an interesting choice for a host city. Porto Lacruz is one of the most visited cities of Cafundéu, and the number one for tourism. Its wonderful beaches became the dream of every rich traveller, who can stay in one of its expensive hotels. Apart from tourism activity, there isn't much to do in Porto Lacruz, even though the city is the biggest of the state... it lives due to the tourism. It is really famous just because of it: beaches, women, parties at night, an excellent place to spend some time. It also is called the "coconut city". The stadium is big, but not so good.
Used by: Porto Lacruz.
Size of City/Stadium Location: big city, biggest of the State. Is located on the seaside.
Climate: extremely hot and wet (high rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 72,500.
Infrastructure: ***

Image
Cúpula Tropical
City: Ilha Eremita
City Details: another surprising decision of the CCFM. During the last years, the Aquário Nacional stadium in Submiria was considered untouched, a stadium that would never leave the list. But since WC 42 Ilha Eremita became the place to represent the Coast State, a city located in an island, with some tourist activity but more famous for being the headquarters of the country's navy, and also for being the site for many studies and researches of the sea’s wildlife. The stadium is good, although needs improvements.
Used by: Atlético Insular.
Size of City/Stadium Located: medium city, 3rd biggest of the State. Located in a desert area.
Climate: hot and wet (high rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 50,000.
Infrastructure: ***

Image
Toca do Tatu (Bola)
City: Cidade Central
City Details: as the name says, this city is located in the centre of the country. It has one of the biggest airports of the country and has a chaotic traffic. As the city is located in an area of mountains, it has many tunnels. Its altitude is very high, so some players can have difficulties in playing in this city, as they can lose breath very fast. Central City is also a place where different cultures meet, so the scenery of the city can change suddenly, but it is a good place to buy a present, as there is a big variety of goods. The stadium is a completely new one, but has the same name of the old stadium, due to its similar architecture.
Used by: Central United.
Size of City/Stadium Location: big city, biggest of the State. Stadium is located in one of the highest places of the city.
Climate: cold and dry (low rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 118,000.
Infrastructure: *****

Image
Gigantão
City: Santo Galvão
City Details: the Gigantão was built especially for the possibility of Cafundéu hosting a World Cup, when the country bid for WC41, and is an excellent stadium. This stadium has the best view that a supporter can ask: he can see the field very close from him, a wonder for some football fans. The city, Santo Galvão, is a city with fast growing and improvement, and the city that has most headquarters of foreign companies. Also, this city is the place where the national saint is thought to have born in. This city is very close to an important city, which is the reference for Santo Galvão: Haja Coração.
Used by: public stadium, used by Galáxia.
Size of City/Stadium Location: medium city, 7th biggest of the State. Stadium located in a neighbourhood without many buildings, still in development.
Climate: cold and dry (medium rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 80,000.
Infrastructure: ****

Image
Arena Multiuso Dra. Veiga
City: Astari
City Details: another economic centre, is the home of two of the biggest companies of Cafundéu: the C-Electronics and the Uranium Kings. Businesses are constant there and the nightlife is very good. It’s called the “city of colourful lights”, as the public lights are of many colours. Its roads are very interesting too. Most games in this stadium will be played at night. It is also the city of the best casinos of the country, where many big shows and sporting events happen. The stadium can hold any kind of sport and event, and can be called just "Arena Multiuso".
Used by: public stadium, used by Metropolitano and C-Electronics. Stadium located in the centre of the city, near the main casinos.
Climate: extremely hot and wet (high rain probability).
Capacity: 100,000.
Infrastructure: *****

Image
Jóia da Lagoa
City: Tijhus
City Details: for many years, the city of Tijhus was one of the preferred destination of tourists wanting to have good moments close to the beach. After all, nothing better than a city extremely close to the capital of the country and on the seaside. Unfortunately, as the years passed, the Tijhus beaches have become very polluted, and it isn't so attractive for tourists anymore. Luckily for its citizens, the city is still part of the metropolitan area of the capital, so ends being the headquarters of many important government organs or even foreign embassies, which keep the city alive. From its times of tourist destination, some good nightclubs remain, and also excellent sports centre... but why go to a nightclub in Tijhus when you can go to one in Cafundó do Juta? As for the stadium, it is an average one, but comfortable enough for the Baptism of Fire, with the chairs very close to the pitch.
Used by: Khalmar-Tijhus
Size of City/Stadium Location: big city, inside the capital's metropolitan area. Stadium is located near the border with Cafundó do Juta.
Climate: extremely hot and wet (medium rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 40,000.
Infrastructure: ***

Parque Aquário
City: Submiria
City Details: the city of Submiria is also known as the flooded city because... well, it is always flooded. A miscalculation in the city planning led to more than half of the city being built in an area that years after would be completely invaded by the sea, forcing people to adjust themselves to it. So, even with a great part of the city underwater, it still manages to be a great city, with beautiful views and creative structures, in an aesthetical and practical way. The best sea food can be found in the town, as some small groups of fishermen and lovers of water sports. The stadium, formerly known as Aquário Nacional, is bigger and better structured than Cúpula Tropical, but surpringly the Ilha Eremita one is the preferred one of the CCFM. But, thanks to the high number of games in Cafundéu, the Parque Aquário will hold some games.
Used by: CR Submiria
Size of City/Stadium Location: big city, biggest of the State. Stadium is located over the water (on a whole neighbourhood which is on a platform - accessed by bridges)
Climate: hot and wet (high rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 65,000.
Infrastructure: ****

Image
Campo Forte Meireles
City: Penderia
City Details: the city of Penderia used to be important. It was near the heart of the former area of Cafundéu, when Estresse Intenso wasn't an independent nation. When the neighbours got their independence, it has become important for being on the border, and fortresses were raised. As now Cafundéu doesn't worry much with what happens in Estresse Intenso, the city lost its utility, although it keeps being a state capital. Has nothing much interesting, is just another big city, with anything that other cities of the same size have... well, it has some nice fortresses to visit. The stadium is big, but isn't a very good one, honestly.
Used by: public stadium, used by both Internacional and Penders
Size of City/Stadium Location: medium city, capital of the State. Stadium is located near the border with Estresse Intenso.
Climate: hot and dry (low rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 50,000.
Infrastructure: ***

Image
Cume da Montanha
City: Serra Cabral
City Details: of all the cities which will hold this competition, Serra Cabral is the one with the highest altitude... not that this means much, as the altitude still isn't at horrible levels, but can already cause some difficulties to a few teams. Located in an area of mountains, Serra Cabral is in the middle of an important connection route between Cidade Central and Astari, and has developed thanks to this. Now it is important for the country's transport system, and one of the most promising cities of Cafundéu, with a growing economy. But don't adventure yourself into the mountains... they are tricky, and some people say they are haunted. Well, about the stadium, it is among the smallest, and will only hold a few games of the group stage, but is in good shape and has all the necessary features.
Used by: Serrano
Size of City/Stadium Location: medium city, 4th biggest of the state. Stadium is located in a distant neighbourhood from the city centre.
Climate: cold and dry (medium rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 35,000.
Infrastructure: ****

Image
Estádio da Glória
City: São Longuinho
City Details: this city doesn't have much importance for the country, and neither for its state. But things seem to be about to change. Large oil reserves have been found in São Longuinho, and now it is quickly growing, and can become an influencial city. Right now, it doesn't have many special things worth commenting here. But about the stadium, it is an example of technology allied to construction, a world class stadium. The only problem is that it is very small compared to other Cafundelense stadiums.
Used by: private stadium used mostly for shows, but São Longuinho plays there
Size of City/Stadium Location: medium city. Stadium is located in a residential area.
Climate: warm and wet (medium rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 35,000.
Infrastructure: *****

Image
Arena Samseong-Barnabé
City: Rio Bonito
City Details: Rio Bonito is a popular city for students, as it is where a big campus of the state university is located, so it attracts a lot of people every year (and see many leaving too). Other than this, it is a city dominated mostly by farmers. But these aren't poor farmers, are rich ones, who hold huge lands and lead an entire area of the economy, and a very important one which is the first sector. So, as there are so many farms, the urban part of the city is often forgotten, and is an ugly one. The river was completely polluted, and people living there were in bad conditions, until Samseong opened its local headquarters in the city, thanks to a deal with the local team. Now the river is a bit better, things are improving with more jobs available, and the team gets many investments. The stadium was one of those, and just isn't a 5-star one because it was built in a haste, and with many of the workers afraid of what was a former cemetery close to it.
Used by: Rio Bonito
Size of City/Stadium Location: medium city, 3rd biggest of the State. Stadium is located near a (former) cemetery.
Climate: extremely cold and wet (medium rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 60,000.
Infrastructure: ****

Memorial
City: Eldorado
City Details: Eldorado has always been, and still is, a nearly-big, nearly-really-important, nearly-historical, nearly-touristic and nearly-nice city. It has so much potential, but the city simply can't find a way to get a higher popularity and influence. Surely most people will be satisfied in being in this city, it has everything you'd want it to offer, but Eldorado will leave a feeling that something is missing... let's take the stadium as an example. The local team is a newcomer to the First Division, so the size seems nearly right. And, as its citizens aren't so passionate about the Eldorado club, there wasn't a need to spend so much in the infrastructure, but the nearly got that right too.
Used by: Eldorado
Size of City/Stadium Location: medium city. Stadium is located... well, in a normal place, honestly.
Climate: hot and dry (low rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 40,000.
Infrastructure: ***

Image
Vale do Imperador
City: Haja Coração
City Details: this city is a rival of another of the host cities of this competition, Santo Galvão. But unfortunately everything in it seems to be worse than it is in their "enemy place". But they have some... curious places destined to strange practices... name your fetish, there'll be a place for it in Haja Coração. But there is another curiosity that makes people dislike the city: it is the birthplace of commentator Breno Gavião, hated by many people all around the world for his participation in TV broadcasts. About the stadium? It's a good one, well-built, nothing really special but nothing bad.
Used by: private stadium, used for many things... and by SC Haja Coração too
Size of City/Stadium Location: big city. Stadium is located in a dangerous neighbourhood, watch your pockets!
Climate: hot and wet (high rain probability).
Stadium Capacity: 55,000.
Infrastructure: ****

Together with the draw, the list of venues for each game will be released.

Country details:

Country Name:
Conventional long form: The Second Empire of the Golden Throne
Conventional short form: Second Empire, Golden Throne, or Macabee Empire

Government type: Imperial Monarchy

Capital: Fedala

Official language: Díenstadi

Popular sports: Football, Futsal, Basketball

Background Detail: Since the end of the War of Golden Succession, the Imperial government under the leadership of Fedor I has undergone a massive reduction in the size of bureaucracy. The country's central bank was abolished, in an attempt to curb post-war inflation, and the size of the military was reduced by an order of several magnitudes. Income tax was abolished, as well, and the only major tax paid is a service tax on goods and services. These liberal economic policies have led to the end of certain post-war poverty and economic growth never beforehand seen in the Second Empire. On the other hand, there is almost no government regulation, meaning that the responsibility of utilitarian welfare is up to charity groups or to the individuals involved.

Travel between cities is fairly easy, as there are several private rail companies who ferry passengers across the mainland. One can also use a number of bus companies, or even aircraft. Most Macabee cities also have extensive mass transportation systems, such as metros and bus networks. These are also fairly cheap, thanks to competition between different companies.

Stadiums Used:

Image
Nashzinski Stadium
City: Nestor
City Detials: Nestor is a larger town, about one hundred kilometers west of Fedala. It was the scene of a large scale battle between Weigari rebels and Imperial soldiers during the War of Golden Succession. The stadium was built privately to host the town's football club, after the war, and the club's entry into the first division has prompted largescale expansion programs.
Size of City/Stadium Location: 135,000
Climate: Hot during the day, cold during the night.
Stadium Capacity: 76,000

Image
Fertisfal Common Grounds
City: Aurillac
City Detials: Aurillac was carpet bombed during the War of Golden Succession, but rebuilt after the war. The Fertisfal Common Grounds was funded by the post-war government, and built using prisoners of war, during the reconstruction.
Size of City/Stadium Location: 14.8 million
Climate: High humidity, warm during the summer.
Stadium Capacity: 150,000

Major OOC notice: If a post concerning me is posted by Eastfield Lodge, then that is me (I have a tendency to post something under the wrong nation), so please count it as my bonus!

The country of Westmeadow Tavern is a colony right next door to its conquerer, Eastfield Lodge. Due to the rubbish infrastructure in place, this team plays its home matches in Dillvill Park, the largest stadium in the empire. Due to the recent introduction of the empire to the rest of the world, this country has taken a back seat as EL experiment first on the world's facilities.

Manager: Sir John 'Lol' Graham: This is really his first experience in managing international football, but he did successfully manage VLC FC to two cups in Eastfield Lodge early on in his career. Has an annoying tendency to laugh loudly when winning.
Assistant Manager: Gordon Bilclough: Has no experience whatsoever and was chosen merely due to a random survey looking for an assisstant manager. Still, he seemed to fit in rather well.

Team: (starters in bold) (Most of the time, I will be posting a roster along with my RP, so check that first)
Goalkeepers:
#1 Randell, Duke of The Tavern: his second name is lost in the mists of time. Age: 23.
#12 Ryan Collins: Age: 19

Defenders:
#2 Alex Barnard: Age: 25, plays: all of defence.
#3 Michael Anderson: Age: 25, plays: all of defence. This guy is the defensive juggernaut of the team. At 7 foot, he doesn't need to jump to defend corners. Quite aggressive though, so he will get a card or two.
#4 Patrick Arnold: Age: 27, plays: all of defence (but can play in midfield). He is the Vice-Captain of the team, but he rarely gets the captaincy itself.
#5 Toby Callahan: Age: 18, plays: all of defence. One of the youngsters in the team, he has the potential to pack a punch with his deadly long-rangers and his long-balls.
#13 Kevin Sullivan: Age: 29, plays: all of defence. The least superstitous of the team, he wears the #13 shirt to prove to the others that it isn't unlucky; so far, he's failed epically.
#14 Brian Casey: Age: 20, plays: all of defence. This guy does get quite mouthy when irritated.
#15 Ophelia Corrigan: Age: 24, plays: all of defence. She is one of the five girls included in the squad, but she isn't one to be harrassed; she has been known to knock out Michael Anderson after he passed a suggestive comment to her.
# 16 Kelly Finnigan: Age: 25, plays: all of defence. She is a quiet girl, who only minds her own business. Quite bad when it comes to team strategies, but she copes.
#17 Stanislav Bingham: Age: 25, plays: all of defence. He's the only one that can talk to Kelly normally, considering they were childhood friends.

Midfielders:
#6 Leonardo Kovalev (Captain): Age: 27, plays: all of midfield. He was an international reserve for Eastfield Lodge, but the fact he was born in Westmeadow Tavern meant that he now plays here, and is also the Captain.
#7 Anton Archibald: Age: 29, plays: all of midfield. According to the files kept by the EL Secret Services, this guy doesn't exist...
#8 Hernando Carrillo: Age: 24, plays: all of midfield and attack. This pacey lad holds the PELOlympics 100m sprint record, which shows something for his speed. Can't turn when fast though.
#9 Philip Chrysanthopoulos: Age: 30, plays: all of midefield. He absolutely loves the classical world, but this actually helps his football in some random way he refuses to explain.
# 18 Megan Montgomery: Age: 21, plays: all of midfield. Possibly the nicest and most caring player on the team, but she is short-tempered whenever things don't go in a way she likes.
# 19 Elise Stepanov: Age: 28, plays: all of midfield. The number of time people have asked this girl out on a date is in the millions, she's just irresistable (but does carry a gun and isn't afraid to use it).
# 20 Nicholas Wilson: Age: 26, plays all of midfield. This guy has an encyclopedia of tricks at his disposal, and he is the undefeated ELFA freestyling champ for 5 years.
# 21 Toby Garfield: Age: 30, plays all of midfield. He is the oldest team member, just 1 day older than Philip. He still is improving with every match, an unnerving characteristic that no-one can explain.

Forwards:
# 10 Emily Williams: Age: 27, plays: center forward/striker. She is the first cousin of EL player Leonardo Williams and also a second cousin to Ophelia Corrigan. She is quite accurate with both feet.
# 11 Alan Anderson: Age: 22, plays: attack (basically WF, CF and Striker). No known relation to defender Michael Anderson, but he is one of the top three deadliest strikers in the empire, behind the famed duo of Shabeen Ahmad Jnr and Dylan Bell, who have scored 37 goals between them in the short time the team have been playing.
#22 Alexander Voronin: Age: 26, plays: attack. He has potential, but if there is any ability, it has yet to come out of its shell.
# 23 Seamus McSullivan: Age: 24, plays: attack. He is a player who has piercing eyes and he can keep the stare up for almost an hour, a stare which makes even the hardened army leaders tremble slightly.

NB: The distinction between strikers and CF's is a very fine one. In essence they are the same, but on paper, the striker's only real aim is scoring whereas a CF does other things as well as scoring so, depending on attention span, aim to score less than strikers. CF's also break up tight defences and things like that.

Style Modifier: +0.5
Formation: 4-1-2-1-2. This involves a diamond shaped midfield, with a midfielder aiding the defence they link the defenders with the attackers. There are two side midfielders who, along with side backs (LB's and RB's), do most of the crossing. The attacking midefielder is the final midfielder. They assist the forwards with through passes, and occasionally take a pop at goal themselves, in or outside the box.

If my opponent RPs first, he/she can:
Choose my scorers? Yes (but mainly the forwards)
Yellow card my players? Yes (max. of three more than your team, e.g. I get 5, you must have at least 2)
Red card my players? Yes (max. of one more than your team)
Injure my players? Yes (only minor one match injuries, anything more serious then TG me)
Godmode injuries? Yes
Godmode scoring events? Yes
Godmode other events? Yes (just no deaths, rapes, etc.)

WARNING: Failure to comply with the above will mean you country shall be annihilated by my extensive set of WMD's.

NEWI Cefn Druids return!

Postby NEWI Cefn Druids » Thu Jan 28, 2010 4:53 pm

New Cefn, Krytenia:

Trevor and Gavin Jenkins are two young brothers and fans of New Cefn Albion, a Druidan based club playing in the Krytenian O-League. They are sat in Gavin's room one night when Trevor shows his brother something.

"Gavin."

"Yes."

"You know how we're not completely Krytenian around these parts?"

"Er... yes..."

"Well, don't you think it's wrong that we're not represented at the World Cup?"

"Well... no. That's not our country any more. We're Krytenian now. There's not even any sort of independence campaign, so..."

"Not even to celebrate the fiftieth cup?"

"No. We're modern Druidan Krytenians. Even for an anniversary, there'd be no point entering a team. I mean, who would play for us."

"Um... well... I've got something to show you."

"Oh yeah..."

Trevor pulled out an envelope.

"Read that."

"It's from the World Cup Committee!"

"Yeah!"

"What do they want to write to you for?"

"Read on."

"Dear Trevor. Thank you for your association's application to enter World Cup 50. Hang on, your association?"

"The Druidan Football Association."

"What the... We are pleased to say that you have been successful! You... you've got a team in..."

"The World Cup. I know."

"Furthermore, our records tell us that, despite a somewhat notable history..."

"Three times bottom of the group is quite notable."

"...your nation has never entered the Baptism of Fire tournament. As such, your team is also invited along to Cafundéu and The Macabees to take part in this edition."

"Good, isn't it?"

"And how are we supposed to get to Cafundéu of The Macabees? Never mind getting a team there. And then to the places around the world in the qualifiers..."

"Well, I've thought this out."

"I'd love to hear this..."

"Have you ever heard the story about NEWI Cefn Druids losing to an egg?"

"You're not..."

"We are."

"So our squad is..."

"...an egg!"

"An egg?"

"Well, actually, more than one egg. What with there being eleven to a team, we can field a whole squad of eggs! With subs in case any break!"

"Are you off your head or something?"

"Maybe. But we're in. Look, we're even got a squad picture!"

Trevor showed this picture to Gavin.

Image

"Wouldn't it be funny if the eggs won a game?"

"Do they have names? A squad list?"

"Of course not! They're eggs!"

"Oh dear..."

If my opponent RPs first, he/she can:
Choose my scorers? Yes
Yellow card my players? Yes
Red card my players? Yes
Injure my players? Yes
Godmode injuries? Yes (Remember, eggs are breakable...)
Godmode scoring events? Yes
Godmode other events? Yes (Of course, we're a team of eggs!)

OOC: I know its a bit early, but I cant resist to RP

THE ADLER STAR
DIE ADLER PREPARE TO DO WHAT DIE ADLER COULDN'T

Technically its confusing. The Burchadingan National Team are nicknamed Die Adler, yet they have a puppet by the same name. So to avoid confusion, the nation Die Adler will nickname its football team The Yellow Wind.

Last time in Nethertopia, Burchadinger fought themselves to the Semi-Finals. There they met The Five Worlds, which should of been a breeze. But TFW went on to shock Burchadinger 2-1. It was a huge disappointment, with TFW going on to be thrashed by Callidon. You don't need to know the bloody score. The result left the team shocked, dazed, and murdered. Not murdered literally, but murdered inside. Now Die Adler has the chance to do what Burchadinger couldn't.

Die Adler has announced its team, and will be most likely spearheaded by number 11, Wilhelm Retfer. He will be watched closely, being a cousin of Markus Klogh, The Deadly Eagle, it is expected that Retfer will bring the most goals. Umber Joisten will be another one to watch, a young talent. The team is quite young, with the average age of 25. The oldest in the team is goalkeeper Hermann Krautfer, who is also captain.

WHO ARE THE MAIN CHALLENGES?

Big challenges will come from Balida Minor, who are the puppet nation of the current BoF champions, Balida. "We will be all out against them." commented Wilhelm Retfer. The possible entrance of Arridia has unsettled some players however. "Arridia? If they come then we are in deep *@)$." said Hermann Krautfer.

Well whether or not Die Adler get their revenge, will be seen, Die Adler is wholly supportive on Burchadingan media for sports, and so, you can catch matches on either TV2, Sports World, or NSC.

FOOTBALL
Ariddia? Oh, them!
World Cup founders prepare for ‘one off’ return

Almost two hundred years ago, a young man called Terry Singh was the star player of an Ariddian national football team playing on home ground, during the inaugural edition of the World Cup. The first ever Rouge-et-Noirs crashed out in the second round, and even great legend Singh gradually faded from the memories of all except enthusiasts of great football history. Today, his grave is maintained in a small town in the outer suburbs of Cité-Belle, on the south-east coast of Ariddia’s main island.

For decades, victory eluded the Cup founders. Until the glory years, when Hanifah Kyaw captained the Rouge-et-Noirs to win the final in World Cup 32 – defeating Jeruselem by two goals to one. It was the time of the dream team, which captured the imaginations of a generation. The Ariddians won again in World Cup 34 (which they co-hosted with the Holy Empire), reached the final in World Cup 35, and won World Cup 36, defeating their close Errinundrian friends in extra time in the final. Ariddia topped the world; names such as Cassie Lee, Ke Sho and Xavier Xu were famous everywhere. After the apotheosis, many of the star players retired. The new generation struggled to build up a momentum which seemed to have run its course. In World Cup 37, the Rouge-et-Noirs were thrashed by Demot in the second round – one of the surprises of the competition. Four years later, they seemed fragile in the group stages. After pounding Northern Bettia 6-0 in the second round, they fell to Tynelia (1-2). Having made the final three times in a row, the ‘Red and Blacks’ were finding the semis slipping out of reach. It was the quarter-finals again in World Cup 39, which turned out to be the team’s last appearance in the international football event.

The People’s Democratic Social Republic of Ariddia –as it was then– had announced a recasting of its funding priorities. Functioning on a moneyless economy, the country had to make do with an exceedingly tight budget. Public consultations revealed that citizens approved –with understandable reluctance– plans to cut down on costly events such as participation in world sports tournaments, for an indefinite period. Ariddia retreated into itself. Foreign tourists still flocked to the country’s many attractions, spending much-wanted cash, but Ariddians were rarely seen abroad. The nation’s socialist dream was revealing one of its most glaring imperfections.

Yet it was a time of reform. Impulsed by Second Secretary Turei Lauru, the State shed many of its national institutions, embarking on what was to be the final stage towards communism. The national government dwindled, delegating its functions to local communes, which obtained increased autonomy – and, eventually, quasi-independence. Local councils, functioning on the basis of direct democracy, were empowered to repeal national legislation on their territory, and draft their own, in accordance with the bare essentials of the Constitution. Ten years ago –while the world was watching the final stages of World Cup 47–, the People’s Democratic Social Republic became the Autonomous Communes of Ariddia. The Ariddian Communist Party dissolved itself, proclaiming that it had achieved its goal. Outgoing leader Jean-Edouard Smithe described the country as a “no-party democracy”, a true “communist society”. Far from the eyes of sports fans, Ariddia had achieved a milestone in its development.

Integration talk with West Ariddia, meanwhile, was not progressing. A few weeks ago, West Ariddia’s Second Secretary, Miguel Case of the Communist Party, was re-elected to lead the country with a narrow victory, and thrown into a restrictive coalition with the Social-Democratic Centrist Party. The latter was given the Finance Ministry, and the ability to rein in the government’s left-wing policies. Shifting towards a moderate form of socialism, West Ariddia seems far removed from the prospect of meaningful unification with the Autonomous Communes. For all intents and purposes, the states of the de jure ‘Federation of the Ariddian Isles’ remain separate countries.

The team

It is in this context that the Ariddians are preparing for their “one off” comeback to the world football stage.

The Ariddian football team will represent the Autonomous Communes, and not the Federation – although it does, symbolically, include one West Ariddian player. Mindful of its lack of exposure to world competitions, the Ueal Cso'Kio Ahit'ya (Ariddian Football Association) has put together a team of under-21s – describing them optimistically as “bright stars of the future”. Their faces are unknown to an international audience.

Here are their names.

Starting eleven:
GK: Patrick Michelet (1)
DEF: miliencu (5) ; Janey Lent (16) ; John McHughes (15)
MID: Fabien Levant (10; capt) ; Joy Ngodzo (13) ; Ou Lo (4) ; Rick Eastton (19)
FWD: Shimmi Woh (2) ; Lea Shaw (11) ; Kossi Touré (7)

Bench:
GK: Mathilda El (12) ; Aurélien Dor (24)
DEF: James Carver (22) ; Fernand Campos (3) ; Sandy Lae (18) ; U E (21)
MID: Hamad al-Rahib (8) ; Faridah al-Rahib (9) ; Uli Rains (14) ; Fabrice Sougou (20)
FWD: Luc Marin (17) ; Sophie Bright (23) ; Nastasya Konysbaev (6)

Aged between 15 and 20, the players are, for the most part, students, playing for school teams, university teams or youth clubs. Among them, a few have attracted attention.

Patrick Michelet (aged 17) has an important role to play. Traditionnally focused on attack, Ariddian teams have, on occasion, suffered from a shaky defence. This has made the goalkeeper crucial as the final line of defence. Michelet, from a smallish rural town, has kept out of the way of the media so far. Tall and thin, with longish brown hair and a thin moustache, he appears shy, a little nervous – but reportedly has good reflexes.

Shimmi Woh (aged 18) is the team’s “borrowed” West Ariddian. She’s in the final months of her secondary school studies, and admits she’s uncertain about her future; a good performance with the Rouge-et-Noirs might boost her career as a professional football player. Domestically, she plays for the Eshlin Strikers in her home state, and has made a name for herself as a skiller attacker. An urban-born Wymgani (Indigenous Ariddian), she has light brown skin, lush dark hair and a keen fashion sense. As a West Ariddian, she is also the only member of the team to be paid as a footballer. She will be the tip of the Rouge-et-Noirs’ once famed thrust.

miliencu (aged 20) is an apprentice water analyst. He was born in Errinundera, and hence spells his name without a capital letter. His wife, vanessa, is the daughter of elenalee, daughter of the legendary former Ariddian goalkeeper Cassie Lee. He is the only player with a family link to one of the “ancient greats”. Fairly sun-tanned, with dark hair and dark blue eyes, he has proved a solid enough defender to be slotted among the starting eleven.

Fabien Levant (aged 18) is the team captain. Only 1m73 tall, with short, dark blond hair, he has been described as quick-thinking and charismatic, thoughtful, modest but rarely hesitant - a good leader.

Aurélien Dor (aged 16) has attracted some interest too. At 2m08 in height, he is by far the tallest player. He is also deaf (but not mute). Unlike Michelet, he is sociable and outgoing. He, Michelet and El are considered to be their country’s top youth goalkeepers; they’re certainly up against their greatest challenge to date.

If the players are unknowns, however, their coach is famous in his own right. José “Zé” Sho, of Cafundéu, now aged 57, is the son of former Rouge-et-Noirs star Ke Sho. Following in his father’s footsteps, he played for Atlético Jutense, then for Cafundéu’s national football team, from World Cups 41 to 44 included, as a defensive midfielder. Like his father, too, he went on to be a coach, and has now picked up the challenge of moulding a team of youngsters from his father’s homeland into a squad capable of competing among the world’s best.

Oldies at the BoF

The irony of the Cup Founders entering the Baptism of Fire has not gone unnoticed, but Sho, backing the Ariddian Football Association, has described it as providing much-needed practice to the team.

“This is our dry run before the big event. Our team has never played on the big stage, so this will be an opportunity for the players to adjust, find their bearings, and be ready for the World Cup itself.”

On a more personal note, the coach is of course hoping Ariddia will be drawn to compete in Cafundéu.

“I’m going to do my utmost best for Ariddia to shine in this competition. But Cafundéu is where I was born, where I grew up… It’s my country, and I’m very proud that it’s hosting the BoF.”

Culture shock

Playing in Cafundéu would also have another advantage: Sho would be able to help the team adjust to an extremely foreign country and culture. Due to the tightened budget and cut-down on public spending, many of the young Rouge-et-Noirs have never left Ariddia. In a moneyless society, all trips abroad are funded by the Treasury. For their first visit to another society, Cafundéu would come as a significant culture shock.

“Everything over there is different” Sho explains. “Here in Ariddia, you have a society without money. In Cafundéu, everything is about money. You have to pay to enter shops, even if you’re not buying. Same with restaurants. You have to pay for water – which many of the players find very hard to believe. You have to pay to use public toilets, and even to walk down the street. If you want to criticise someone, you’re expected to pay to do so. The Treasury will give us funds, and all the players will carry petty cash, but it may be hard at times.”

The very notion of paying for anything is foreign to the Ariddians, and they have been receiving instructions on how to behave in a capitalist society. But there are other shocks in store.

“There are beggars, in the streets,” Sho explains bluntly. “And people eat meat. Ariddians, of course, are all vegetarians. They’ll be seeing meat in shops, in restaurants, on TV… If we’re sent to Cafundéu, we’ll try to arrive a bit early, to give everyone time to adjust.”

Some players have declared themselves “horrified” by what they’ve learnt of the host country, but Sho has patiently explained that it’s just another way of life.

“To be honest, I’m glad I was brought up in Cafundéu, and I wouldn’t want to settle anywhere else. It’s hard to explain… Maybe I’m just used to it, but there are many wonderful things about it, and I hope I’ll be able to show those to the team, too.”

Manager: Kazys Papolov (Somewhereistonian coach, formerly of Koltelcia and Qasarian City, the manager makes his first attempt at coaching an international squad).
Assistant Manager: Kukas Skormilonski (Former star striker for the Eagles, Skormilonski makes his first move into management with Malak).

A new nation! Freed men from Malak! Explosions and new players and stuff! Not only that, but Malak managed to get all the way to the final of the Copa Rushmori, beating sides such as world cup champions Candelaria And Marquez (B side admittedly), Toyur and Nethertopia. This is a team that is now going to be expecting a lot here. Whatever you do, do not underestimate a team made up of players who are at clubs such as Green Island (CMSC Champions), Avidia City of Krytenia and many others. This is not a side to be ignored. This is a side that took the Baptism of Fire 33 Champions to the edge, and you have to say that Somewhereistonia are a better side than they were back under Ergma in that tournament. With the addition of new players to the squad since then, you can only see them doing even better. Maybe not favourites, but certainly up there.

Team roster. Positions shown within [square brackets]

First 11
1. Marc Ogiński, 23 [GK]. Avidia City [Krytenia]. This keeper impressed so well with numerous great saves during the early part of the Copa Rushmori that he was quickly snapped up by Avidia City, amongst numerous bids from Meistriliiga clubs.
2. Mikhail Dukelsky, 22 [LWB]. Bandeirantes [Cafundéu]. Quick, aware and clever. He'll be keen to impress in his new home, assuming he gets a game in Cafundéu.
3. Vladimir Asimov, 26 [RWB]. Atlantea Hurricanes [Taeshan]. The oldest player in the team after Boguinskaya got dropped (due to Hexa coming in), Asimov will aim to prove that he is part of the future of this team which is showing so much potential.
4. Alexis Wurka, 24 [LCB] *Captain*. Deportivo Cordova [Sargossa]. A sturdy central defender from the Malak region of former Kyrin territories. After being selected for the Somewhereistonian Cup of Harmony 41 squad, Wurka is seen as perhaps the best prospect for this young team. Now moving to play in Sargossa, he has proved his ability to hold together a stern defence.
5. Maksim Bałachonaŭ, 18 [RCB]. Mercadel S.C. [Sargossa]. A good centre back. What more can you say.
6. Siarhiej Karatkevich, 24 [DMF]. Cathedral City [Candelaria And Marquez]. Sturdy, strong and capable. Karatkevich is more than able to break up the attacks coming through from midfield.
8. Anatoly Milinkievič, 19 [CMF]. Pythons [Queer Poco El Mono Ara]. A great passer and a central part to Malak's attacking potential. Able to pick out the forward runs and make things happen.
7. Stanislav Viačorka, 20 [RMF]. Dinamo Karrakiv [Somewhereistonia]. One of the best players in the Copa Rushmori, you have to say his crossing is one of the biggest threats for Malak. An essential part in this young team.
11. Sergey Kuncevič, 23 [LMF] *Vice-Captain*. Avidia City [Krytenia]. Kuncevič is that one who can make the difference, the one run, that one pass when the team cannot get through. A great star and well worth the fee paid by Avidia.
10. Talksi Hexa, 18 [LST]. Eldorado [Cafundéu]. An ethnic Rushmori from the Autonomous region of Anseriska. His excellent ability, coupled with being now able to play for Malak have meant that he slots straight into the first team, displacing a very good Kovalyonok.
9. Dmitri Žukava, 17 [RST]. Pythons [Queer Poco El Mono Ara]. One of the top scorers in the Copa Rushmori, D. Žukava can header, hold the ball up, run and shoot; he's a strong player 'n' all. He can play well with others or be a lone striker. A perfect striker pretty much.

Subs:
12. Ivan Volodinsk, 28 [GK]. Gamboa FC [Candelaria And Marquez]
13. Artem Polugaevsky, 20 [MF]. Hawks Sporting Academy [Somewhereistonia]
14. Aliaksandr Grabovski, 16 [ST]. Atlantea Hurricanes [Taeshan]
15. Pyotr Kovalyonok, 19 [LST]. Hawks Sporting Academy [Somewhereistonia]
16. Vladimir Hleb, 22 [MF]. Koltelcia FK [Somewhereistonia]
17. Owwu Kiko, 19 [MF]. Eldorado [Cafundéu]. An ethnic Rushmori from the Autonomous region of Anseriska.
18. Andrei Mirnyi, 25 [Wing]. Gamboa FC [Candelaria And Marquez]
19. Boris Atroshchenko, 18 [FB]. Gamboa FC [Candelaria And Marquez]
20. Anatoly Žukava, 16 [FB]. Mercadel S.C. [Sargossa]
21. Gowa Tawaw, 24 [CB]. Anseriska FK. An ethnic Rushmori from the Autonomous region of Anseriska.
22. Balak Kostitsyn, 25 [CB]. Ousevale Juniors [Krytenia]
23. Vladimir Matyushenko, 16 [GK]. Han Hawks [Daehanjeiguk]

The country of Libertarian Governance is a shining beacon of individual freedom and truly free economics in the Unified Realm region. The team plays its home matches in the city of Hyphae. Hyphae is the high tech commercial capital of Libertarian Governance and home to many of the powerhouse corporations that lead the LG economy. The Rushing Aircraft Stadium is a large modern facility with with many amenities that cater to the wealthy crowd. It has state of the art training and medical facilities.

Manager: Dawson Thompson: Dawson has led three separate college teams to a total of 6 championships over a career spanning 15 years. Though this is his first international coaching job he is known as a person that gets the job done.
Assistant Manager: Aron Miller: A retired midfielder he has also made a name for himself on the college circuit. He led the Corcoran Pioneers to a College Championship during a three year coaching stint that saw the team go from dead last to champions.

Team: (Starters Bolded)
Goalkeepers:
#1 Jerry Nutt Age: 23.
#10 Brian Wilson: Age: 19

Defenders:
#3 Jason Clarke: Age: 23, plays: all of defense and midfield. Jason is known to mix it up with opposing players. Very good defender the type that gets in other players heads and makes them make mistakes out of anger.
#4 Damian Anderson: Age: 25, plays: all of defense. Very good long range kicker but often draws cards due to aggressive nature.
#5 Jake Scott: Age: 26, plays: all of defense and midfield. He is the Co-Captain of the team
#6 Tirney Al Asad: Age: 22, plays: all of defense. Accurate long range kicker and fast enough to play wing on offense when needed.
#7 Shawn Lopez: Age: 29, plays: all of defense. He is particularly adept at breaking apart strong offenses. A solid well grounded player and mentor for many of the younger guys on the team. Almost never gets a card.
#18 Cash Calloway: Age: 20, plays: all of defense. Cash is a former child actor. He is usually the first guy in on a red card. Excellent at stealing the ball. He is on loan from the Libertarian Governance Defense Forces where he is a Captain and fighter pilot.
#9 Maxine Corcoran: Age: 25, plays: all of defense and midfield. She is 5’ 10” and 160 lbs of very solid muscle. A triathlete and competitive martial artist.
# 16 Yuri Gorchenko: Age: 25, plays: all of defense. Yuri is the team muscle. He has a couple of questionable penalties resulting in serious injuries to opposing players. Hes unacknowledged role is to remove players from the game and make it look accidental.
#17 Susan McKnight: Age: 25, plays: all of defense. Talented and very fast with a great dribble and accuracy.

Midfielders:
#12 Tony Archuletta : Age: 27, plays: all of midfield and all of attack. Often replaces Michaels in his striker team role.
#21 Kyle Nganda: Age: 26, plays: all of midfield. He has blazing speed and a very accurate kick. His height often gets him extra scoring opportunities.
#8 Bobby Jackson: Age: 24, plays: all of midfield and all of attack. He is perhaps more adept at more positions then any other player on the team.
#14 Franky Cagny: Age: 24, plays: all of midfield and all of attack. A hard worker all the time and great sportsman.
# 15 Brighton Seich: Age: 21, plays: all of midfield. Extremely short tempered but with a dribble and accurate kick that make up for it.
# 19 Caleb Perkins: Age: 28, plays: all of midfield and defense. Often leaves players wondering how he got the ball from the opposing team. Great footwork and an unmatched arsenal of tricks.
# 22 Paulie Santino: Age: 18, plays all of midfield. Hes the only current college attendee playing on the team. His skills are the equal of anyone on the team as far as dribbling, accuracy and speed. His only draw back is his inexperience. He is usually used early on to set up scores.
# 23 Charles Manx: Age: 25, plays all of midfield. A power player who can also play goalie if needed.

Forwards:
# 10 Max Duncan: Age: 27, plays: center forward/striker. Hes a very good player and plays the advanced penetrator of the Duncan, Michaels, Snow Striker team.
# 13 Kirk Michaels: Age: 22, plays: Striker (basically WF, CF and Striker). This guy has scored some 50 goals and is a monster at his position. He is the team captain despite his young age and was highly sought after college. He often plays a midfield position when working with Duncan and Snow.
#20 Trenton Daniels: Age: 26, plays: attack. An aggressive though smart attacker. Can play either flank with equal proficiency.
# 25 Steven Snow: Age: 24, plays: attack, usually Wing Forward. Known for his ability to come in late in a game and score a winning goal. He loves to play the right side of the field with Duncan and Michaels.

Baptism of Fire: A Look Inside Cafundéu

As our national team the Libertarian Governance Patriots get ready to participate in the Baptism of Fire we traveled to Cafundéu to see what our players would soon be experiencing. What we found has sort of changed our article from the soon to be arriving players to the already arrived corporations.

In fact, they are all here LG Defense Systems Inc., Nemesis Electronics, Las Trancas Winery and the list goes on. Libertarian Governance corporations upon the news that they were welcomed to invest have done just that. How much investment is going on?

According to Diamond Dave Jenkins of Monaseto Commodities "What sensible business wouldn't invest here? I mean hey its about location, location, location and the locations here all cost money." What he means is that to use the highways, you need to pay. To use the streets, you need to pay. You'll have to pay for the water, food, transport, products, to walk in the road, to receive an answer about something, to complain, to think, and many other things.

The charges levied here have LG corporations seeing mountains of Gold Coin. LG Defense Systems Inc., one of the worlds largest and wealthiest defense contractors has sponsorship offers in with at least three stadiums. We confirmed that they have approached Obelisco Monumental, Arena América and Estádio Rei Albieri Van Tocco.

The reasons are simple according to LG Defense CEO Johnathan Bauer. "LG Defense is on the bleeding edge of weapons technology. As a leading supplier of armaments we have established subsidiaries around the world and employ millions upon millions of people in numerous nations. As a success we like to affiliate with other successful entities and what we have going on in Cafundéu with the Baptism of Fire is simply amazing."

Las Trancas Winery owner Peter Balsworth was just as elated about the opportunities in Cafundéu when we spoke to him. "We are trying to close on some real estate because we believe our Las Trancas Bar and Grills are a great fit in this wonderful nation. We are hoping to invest about 5 billion here before the BOF." That's right 5 Billion Gold Coin.

We caught up with Libertarian Governance Patriots team captain, number 13, Kirk Michaels to get his perspective. "Hey if they didn't make money our own Free Republic wouldn't be such a great place. I mean we all want gold, right? Because the guy with the Gold is the winner. I don't fault them for wanting to succeed. I want to succeed too."

I asked Kirk if the pay for everything approach bothered him. "Not really. That's their system and its fine. You know, the government is picking up our bill and we will each have a debit card to make payments so I am not really worried there." and on the chances for victory "Well, you know we have a damn good team with probably the best two coaches in the sport. We have a style of play that is nearly impossible to deal with. So, I think we have an excellent opportunity to come out on top."

The coaches and players of the Patriots shared Kirk's viewpoint and Coach Thompson put it simply "We are going to go in there and with our minds right and do our job every game. That's all. That's all we are going to do each and every game and I am confident that at the end of the BOF the good people of LG are going to be proud of what we accomplished."

"Hello to all the nations herrrrre in this wonderrrrrful day for the drrrrraw of the Baptism of Firrrrre! I am surrrrre you arrrrre amazed by my speech ability, especially when it comes to give emotion and excitement to any worrrrrd, especially those who have a r letter. Today, you'll discover your opponents in the Baptism of Firrrrre. Therrrrre arrrrre eight grrrrroups of six nations, with no seeded teams, so any team can face any other and go to any grrrrroup. Grrrrroups A to D will be played in the Macabee nation, while the last four grrrrroups, E to H, arrrrre in Cafundéu. Anyway, now is when the competition rrrrreally starrrrrts.

Well, maybe not rrrrreally as the firrrrrst matchday isn't today. But therrrre's a schedule available for you to check when the games arrrrre going to happen, with all the list of venues for each game, so the basic inforrrrrmation is available. Anything extrrrrra can be asked, but will have a cost if you arrrrre in Cafundéu, hehe. Okay, let's rrrrremember. The drrrrraw is below, and only the top four nations of each grrrrroup will go to the knockout rrrrrrounds, when they'll play only against teams who werrrrre playing in the same nation they werrrrre, with this changing only in the final. So good luck!"

Manager Michael Davis has chosen an unchanged squad from that which participated in the recent Copa Rushmori. By the Tentalonian calendar, the BoF occurs just a couple of months after that competition. Davis favors a 3-4-3 formation that plays a little less aggressively than one might expect (style modifier -1).

GOALKEEPERS

1 - Daniel Westwood (32, Garrison)
12 - Kieran Fairclough (32, Millican)
23 - Paul Bates (25, Chadbourne City)

DEFENDERS

2 - center - Steven Bowler (34, Stanford United)
3 - center - Rob Armstrong (34, Woodbury)
4 - center - Seth Moore (31, Young)
13 - right - Chris Wilson (27, Liberty County)
14 - all - Neil Thomson (27, Poorman)
15 - center - Lee Rooney (30, Ashley)
24 - center - Dale Byrne (25, Crosby Athletic)

MIDFIELDERS

5 - all - Joshua Klein (32, Level Corner)
