Marquee Players Needed - St Roch Premier League.

Postby St Roch » Mon Jul 06, 2015 10:13 am

The St Roch Premier League is in the final stages of completion. Clubs have been founded and fixtures announced, however most teams are still adding players to their squads.

The Football Association has introduced a 'Marquee Player Rule'. This rule stipulates that each team can have a designated marquee player who is able earn more than the standard player salary cap. The Board hopes that big name stars who are in the latter stages of their career will be tempted to play football in St Roch, thus increasing the quality of matches and international attention on matches.

Therefore, if anyone is interested in supplying one of the teams in the league with a marquee player please feel free to do so by filling out the application.

Hello there,

To help you out I'd like to provide you with a couple of helpful links.

The International Domestic Soccer Newswires, where many nations place their national leagues. There are also international club tournaments on that thread which you may be interested in joining.

International Domestic Soccer Discussion, the sister thread to the above. I'd suggest linking to this thread in there.

Hope this helps.

For guideline purposes here is my own marquee player for AFC Georgetown.

Player Name: Alessandro Smyth-Davids.
Age (preferably 27+): 35
Nationality: St Rochian
Position: Attacking Midfielder
Previous Clubs (including appearances and goals scored. Note- clubs should be fiction NS teams):

1988-1996 AFC Georgetown. Apps = 201. Goals = 128.
1996-2005 Londontown FC. Apps = 336. Goals = 103.
2005-2014 AFC Georgetown Apps = 179. Goals = 53.

Bio (optional): Originally playing for the club he supported as a boy, Alessandro was a fan's favourite at AFC Georgetown until a fall out with a new manager forced him to move to fierce rivals, Londontown FC.

Despite coming from 'the enemy', Alessandro soon won over the hostile fans through his superb passing and vision. At Londontown FC he was encouraged to play abroad, however he decided to not to leave his homeland for family reasons.

In 2005, he fell out of favour and struggled to make the bench. He decided to not to renew his contract and AFC Georgetown snapped him up for nothing, much to the dismay of the Londontown supporters.

Starting less frequently and carrying more injuries, his return to Georgetown was not a smooth one. In 2008 he was banned for 5 games for punching an opponent and in 2009 he was involved in a dangerous driving incident which landed him a hefty fine. It was later revealed that he had been suffering from a catalogue of illness, both physical and mental, that the medical teams had not noticed. Alessandro was furious and there was talk of him retiring early.

After 2010 and after a long break, he reinvented himself and started to play better however he was used mostly as a utility player, even on some occasions playing in central defence.

In 2014 he decided not to renew his contract and pursue "other avenues". However, the start of the first professional league in St Roch's history was too good to miss. He penned a new contract at AFC Georgetown as their marquee player, hoping to pass on his experience to younger pro's and, possibly, enter into a coaching role.
