Day 4 @ Electrum Slam II CourtReport

GANDO: "Hello everyone and welcome to this day 4 NSHQ Tennis coverage of the Electrum Slam II from the National Tennis Centre in Centralis, I'm Levi Gando with today's CourtReport. Today there were only 3 Madesenes who played in the singles competition with one unfortunate loss and in the doubles competition...both Madesene matches were upsets. At noon it was Benjamin Shaw who started the day off for Madesene fans taking on number 32 seed Christian Lawrence of Elejamie in 4 hours and 21 minutes. This match was basically a standoff between Lawrence the ground stroker and Shaw the serve-and-volley type of player. It was all Shaw pretty much throughout the whole match, but Lawrence at many times was able to move his shots beyond Shaw at the net. Shaw successfully, but not easily, claimed the first two sets. Now, by the third set, Lawrence seemed to have improved his play very significantly, which pushed the set into a third set tie-break. Shaw was initially leading by 1 game, and he had 2 match points which were all saved by Lawrence. Many commentators assumed it was nerves that prevented Shaw from closing the game out. Lawrence was very close to losing, but during the tie-break he broke Shaw twice in order to successfully stay in the match. Lawrence was pumped up from coming back two sets down and had even more momentum in the fourth, as Shaw struggled to get himself back to "game-set-match" mode. Lawrence eventually claimed the set. The fifth set was an intense fight, indeed. Shaw seemed to have gotten his steady play back and Lawrence was even more pumped up. Almost every game both players won ended with fistpumping and a loud "come onn!!!" or "Allé!!" in the midst of the cheering Electrumite crowd. At 5-all, Shaw serving, unforced errors were the things that allowed Lawrence to conclude a whopping 4-6, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Shaw.

"Next in section 6 was number 31 seed Adebowale taking on Stein Anthonsen of the Danish Confederacy. Anthonsen and Gilliam both started off the match very strong as both players were able to keep hold of their service games. Gilliam could have gotten the set but at 5-all, Gilliam serving, 2 consecutive double faults was what allowed Anthonsen to claim it. Gilliam in the next 3 sets maintained a high level, fair play to ensure that he would stay in the match. It was a common thing to see long rallies between Anthonsen and Gilliam, with the most shots being 25. This ground stroke standoff is what lengthened the match. In the second set Gilliam was able to break Anthonsen twice, and in the third and fourth set Gilliam broke only once, which allowed him to claim a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 after 2 hours and 52 minutes.

"Sajjad de Sauveterre, in the same section with Gilliam, took on another Danish Knut Bachchan in a lengthy but very entertaining 5 sets. De Sauveterre started off very strong as he was able to break Bachchan twice, maintaining a steady and solid play. Bachchan was determined to level the match as he improved his game very significantly in the second set which pushed to a second set tie-break. De Sauveterre managed to break Bachchan a few times in order to be up two sets. With even more determination Bachchan played even harder and this made the game on court 3 an intense fight. Bachchan broke De Sauveterre once in order to end the set with a 6-4. De Sauveterre broke Bachchan early in the fourth set, but Bachchan came back to break twice to claim yet another 6-4 to push to the final set. Expressions on De Sauveterre's face gave him a "I can't believe this is happening" look on his face. The two players fought very intense to determine who would be able to finally close the set. The fifth set lasted for 1 hour and 42 minutes as it was a decider, which makes the overall match time 4 hours and 44 minutes. Finally, at 7-all, Bachchan serving, he makes a few doubles faults which leaves De Sauveterre an open door to finally close out the match. De Sauveterre, serving for the match, serves 3 consecutive aces to move onto the third round, with a stunning 6-3, 7-6, 4-6, 4-6, 9-7. Shortly after De Sauveterre's match the Electrum Lawn Tennis Association announced that today's matches were the end of the split brackets, meaning all players will play tomorrow. Hopefully De Sauveterre can recover well enough from his 4 hour marathon match!

"This CourtReport was brought to you by Nia, Avian, Jonah's Creek, and Tomlin Templeton Investments. Coverage of day 5 at Centralis will be broadcasted here all day tomorrow; thanks for watching, good night!"

"Good evening, Neu Engollon. Dom Toglani here, your nightly host for NETV Sports 19 Update.

The NETC team were doing well overall at the Electrum Slam, but yesterday might have been a bit of a setback. As expected today, Quiront won his match, but not without struggle. His opponent, Albaie's Wendell Fisher, took him through a full five sets with some spectacular serve returns and digs. Fisher did not go down quietly. Much muttering and cursing could be heard from Paul's corner, and one warning was issued.

The second round of doubles started today and Ripaldi and Doerwald were able to beat their opponents, Madasene duo Henryson and Rider, coming back after a loss in the first set to take the other two. Again, as with their teammate Quiront, they didn't have an easy time of it.

Yesterday, we saw both Neu Engollian women's doubles teams take losses in their debut matches in the Slam. Let's hope they can come back. Also, Quiront and Garzala lost their match to Kaboomlandia's female doubles team, Williams and Anderson. I'm sure Paul Quiront had a private tantrum over that.

Singles went much better on Match day two, with Garzala, Semmes and Danjiella Zovic putting notches in the win column. High hopes for fan favorite Marla Gerard were dashed though, but her loss to Ceni's Maradona was not quite unpredictable.

Back to today, the biggest upset may have been unranked newcomer Stephen Perez of Krytenia's victory over Electrum's own Gates in a three set shutout. Ceni's Varalin had a similar three set shutout earlier in the day against Nagotko of the People's Emirate, but considering Lonus's top rank in the fifth slot, that was a little less impressive.

Keep watching as we have more highlights, interviews and match previews before tomorrow, right here on NETV 19."

2 Left in Single and Full Force in Double
Centralis, Electrum

The Second Round of Electrum Slam has finished with the conclusion of forth matchday where half of the competition take place. During the match day, Pemecutanian saw a lost of another 2 single players, Oka Sulastra and Ayu Ratih Kemalasari. While in Double Competition, Pemecutan still have its full teams in the tournament.

13th seed, Dewa Putu Adrian Putra faced Ethan Stokes of Elejamie in a tight 5 sets match. The first set was very tight with both players interchangeably won the game until 5-5 deuce. Putra's unforced error in the 12th game cost him the first set. 7-5 for Stokes. Putra makes up his mistakes in the second and third set. Stokes again difficult Putra in the forth set and forced him to surrender in a tight 40-40 deuce after a 6-5 position for Stokes. In the fifth set, Putra give a nice performance although Stokes still have a great play. The set comes to 5-5 deuce. only this time, it was won by Putra with a smooth netting.

Other Pemecutanian singles unfortunately lost in their match. Oka Sulastra give up from 3rd seed, Kika Dovan of Ceni in 4 sets match. While Ayu Ratih Kemalasari lost from 18th seed, Carmichael Brown of Electrum in 5 sets match.

In Double Competition, Pemecutan seems to be over the edge with all 3 teams that played in the forth match day won their match. Ilham Nugraha/Jayadi Ahmad won easily against Jayce Wood and Ariel Aubert of Madesu. Nugraha/Ahmad seems to be on fire and show a great performance that they could outplayed Wood/Aubert in 2 sets match of 6-2 and 6-2. On the other hand, Eka Putrawan/Dwi Ratmadi have to go through a tight match against Jacob Hunter/Clucc McGee of Jachaelter before advance to the Second Round. The match where finished both in 5-5 deuce position. In which the first set almost won bu Jachaelter's team. But a great move during tie-break by Putrawan/Ratmadi could save them. The second set also went until 5-5 deuce. But this time, a nice drop shot by Putrawan secure them a spot in Second Round.

The last but not least were the match of 9th seed, Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati against Grate Est/Evv Urr also from Jachaelter. Antari/Andreawati seems to be much stronger then Est/Urr. The Pemecutanian double won easily by 2-6 in the first set. Est/Urr able to difficult Antari/Andreawati in the second bu they still need to manage their finishing touch. Antari/Andreawati end up won the second set by 6-3 and advance to the next round.

Centralis Herald - Sports Section - Kate McNamara

The Gredello-Levinsky Odyssey

The multiverse's formerly best team has been in a rut lately. They're just not hitting the mark like they used to -- and I don't want to cause alarm, but they are going to need to quickly fix their kinks, if they want to return to the top. And what better way to do that than to win your very own home competition, the Electrum Slam, and retain those points. It is important that they do not lose ground now when they are ahead, and especially in these three-set competitions, they must not show any weakness at all. They've dispatched an Albaie pair, Neal/Gonzales in two very tight sets, and are scheduled to face Simmons and Walsh from Krytenia.

Their dominance in recent months has been powerful. Other than the top Britonish pair, only Rosa and Sonya have been able to defeat Fia and Elia Xal, and multiple times in the finals. It just seems that they're more able to adapt to the game of the top Cenian pair more than the others around the circuit, and since then, it's been very hard to break the duopoly they've had in securing titles. But that's no longer necessarily the case. With increasing amount of nations participating in the ATP, even wildcard players with their never before-seen strategies can do well in these tournaments. Madesu, Pemecutan and The Andromedan Islands have put in a surprising investment into their player's development, possibly explaining why they're able to crack the top 50 more easily than Electrum's players.

The Electrum Lawn Tennis Association needs to acknowledge that more funding on development must be given to Electrumite players, as they are right now unable to compete on the international level. And it's the old player's that are the likely problem here -- Electrum's top player is a relative newbie, and hasn't even competed in the Electrum Slam before, so he will have a relative rise in the rankings. The other Electrum players are still performing average levels, despite this being their home tournament and that they should do very well, given that they are very used to the hard courts of Centralis by now.

That complacency the ELTA has is the same one Gredello and Levinsky has. Gredello is clearly the dominant player in the pair, dictating positions and serves, Levinsky preferring to listen to Gredello. Perhaps it's time for a shakeup. Try some new things. Do anything to stop their slide down the rankings. Then, and only then, can they expect to ever reach the top of the ATP charts once again.

Singles, Second Round: Stephen Perez vs Samuel Gates (Electrum, 29)

Perez played on what was his biggest stage to date - playing on the Peter Oaker court - against local hope Samuel Gates. Did he show any nerves? Hell no. Perez had control of the match from the get-go, making the most of his service games and ensuring that Gates was on the back foot. A break of serve at three-all proved crucial, and paved the way for the Krytenian to take the second set. This appeared to get under the Electrumite's skin; unforced errors led to Gates being on the back foot for the whole second set - not that that was too long, as Peres wrapped it up in a little over twenty-five minutes. Things, though, were much closer in the third set. An early break for Perez seemed to snap Gates back into life, and he broke back a few games later. The new Krytenian number one was not to be denied though, crushing his opponent in the tiebreak to come through in straight sets and set up a tie against the Cenian sixth seed, Botack Andiam.

Perez wins 6-4 6-2 7-6 (7-1)

Doubles, First Round: Owen Simmons and Perry Walsh vs Kay Jackson and Erin Trent (Andromedan Islands)

And so to the beginning of the doubles competition. Simmons and Walsh are the only Krytenians in the doubles, and they made hard work of it against their Andromedan opponents. Though they took the first set by the scruff of the neck, they lost the second by the same score, and looked in trouble at two-love down in the third. That was the point at which Simmons opened up his booming serve, Walsh started hitting everything, and the Andromedans simply didn't know what hit them. Next up? The number two seeds from the host nation. Well, it was nice while it lasted...

Simmons & Walsh win 6-3 3-6 6-2

So, Stephen, massive shock earlier in beating the sixth seed. How did you manage it?

I just played my normal game, made the most of the opportunities that came to me, and just dug in. I think I got to him a bit in the last set.

How so?

It was when I broke his serve to make it 3-2. You could see in his eyes, his brain was going "Who is this guy? How am I losing to him? Seriously, what the hell?!?"

I have a feeling there'll be a lot of people who'll know who you are now, though!

Oh absolutely. I was coming of the court and there were people coming up to me for autographs! I've not had to sign anything since my bank discontinued their chequebooks, it was surreal. And it's been strange to get attention for doing what I do. Tennis is very much a marginal sport in Krytenia; the only time it usually gets reported on is when the Olympics roll into town, and that's only once every four years.

Does this mean that tennis might become more popular in Krytenia?

I certainly hope so. It's a wonderful sport, a great physical and mental challenge. I'd personally like to see it played a lot more in schools, but hey, not up to me.

The prize money will be a bit of a boost personally I'd imagine, too.

Yeah, this is pretty much my funding for the rest of the year sorted!

Finally, you face Hjugo van de Hoett of Ekoz tomorrow in the round of sixteen. Any tactics?

Well, it'll be getting a good night's sleep, a morning cycle to loosen up, and after that? He's unseeded like me, so we both have nothing to lose. I just hope I can keep up my form; Stephen Perez, Electrum Slam Quarter-Finalist has a nice ring to it!

Thanks, Stephen, and the best of luck.

Day 5 @ Electrum Slam II CourtReport

GANDO: "Hello everyone and welcome to this day 5 NSHQ Tennis coverage of the Electrum Slam II from the National Tennis Centre in Centralis, I'm Levi Gando with today's CourtReport. Many Madesenes in the singles as well as the doubles competition suffered losses today, but fortunately, we had underdogs. In the singles competition, section 1 was Gabe Anderson taking on Simone Laggoe of the People's Emirate in a straight win. In the first set Laggoe and Anderson fought hard to have a positive start in the match, as they were able to keep hold of their service games up until both players were tied at 4-all. Laggoe serving, a few double faults enabled Anderson to break and claim the set. Anderson maintained a decent and steady pace from there, as he was able to mix up serve-and-volley type of play as well as solid ground strokes, as he was able to eventually claim a 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 win to earn a spot in the 4th round. Anderson was soon seen as the only Madesene left in the singles draw.

"Number 23 seed Madesene lefty Martin Bond took on number 16 seed Ngurah Putra Muliawan of Pemecutan. The first set was very tight for both players as they were able to maintain hold of their service games. Unfortunately at 5-all Muliawan was able to break Bond's serve and claimed the set. It seemed after Bond's loss of the first set his overall play started to go downhill, and Muliawan started dominating the court and maintained a high level of play against Bond. Eventually Muliawan was able to claim a 7-5, 6-1, 6-3 victory.

"In group 6 was number 31 seed Madesene lefty Adebowale Gilliam taking on world number 5 Cenian Lonus Varalin. Veralin had a great start to the match as he was able to break Gilliam early in the opening set and took off dominating the court from there. Eventually it was Veralin who claimed it. Gilliam fought back in the second to attempt to level the match, and he did. Veralin got himself together from there and maintained a steady momentum that would eventually allow him to claim a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory.

"Over on the doubles side was unseeded Marcel Jamil and Lynton Shelley taking on number 13 seed Andromedans Johnnie Foster and Kate Logan in a straight win. The Madesenes maintained a very high level of play against the Andromedans as they were able to break Logan and Foster 3 times throughout the whole match, where they were able to eventually claim a stunning 6-3, 6-3 win over the world number 13.

"This CourtReport was brought to you by Nia, Avian, Jonah's Creek, and Tomlin Templeton Investments. Coverage of day 6 at Centralis will be broadcasted here all day tomorrow; thanks for watching, good night!"

Round of 16 @ Electrum Slam II CourtReport

Image

GANDO: "Hello everyone and welcome to this day 6, round of 16 NSHQ Tennis coverage of the Electrum Slam II from the National Tennis Centre in Centralis, I'm Levi Gando with today's CourtReport. Today we witnessed a stunning upset of world number 1 Elaine Foyner by unseeded Madesene singles underdog Gabe Anderson on Phillip Maxwell Arena. Attention to the crowd started to increase as Anderson from the beginning broke Foyner's serve in the opening set and it seemed as if Anderson's nerves were nowhere to be found. Anderson in the opening set broke Foyner twice and then was able to claim it. Anderson was simply on fire in the second as he dropped no games against the Cenian and even put in 5 aces during the set. Anderson was now 2 sets up against the world number 1, the Electrumite crowd seemed to root for both Anderson and Foyner, just to see a battle in this match. Foyner then got herself together in the third set and kept hold of her service games, then at 4-all she managed to break Anderson for the first time in the match. Anderson and Foyner fought an intense battle in the fourth set, to determine if Foyner can stay in the match and push this to a fifth set or Anderson can end it here. Foyner, determined to stay in the match, broke Anderson early in the fourth set and both players were able to hold serve. Even though no-one broke in this set, Foyner had 3 break chances against Anderson and Anderson had 2 break chances against Foyner; eventually Foyner claimed the set. The Electrumite crowd was so loud the chair umpire had to settle them down repeatedly, after every game Foyner and Anderson would complete. The fifth set was an ultimate battle, really the survival of the fittest. So far, resulting from the lengthy rallies and points played in the third and fourth set match time was now approaching 3 hours. The Cenian and Madesene managed to hold onto their serves until at 6-all, Foyner serving. Anderson hits consecutive return aces, and breaks Foyner. He then serves for the match. Anderson hits 2 aces and one winner, enough for him to claim a 6-2, 6-0, 4-6, 4-6, 8-6 victory over Foyner! Congratulations to Gabe Anderson! During Anderson's press conference journalists ask him 'How do you feel of beating the world number 1?' He responds: 'Boy, I'm certainly delighted to have won that match. But I learned today that I actually can compete with the best players in the world, and I'm hoping this match will give me the confidence to play like a champion, just like my father used to say. I'm really looking forward to going farther in this tournament.'

"Over on the doubles side was Marcel Jamil and Lynton Shelley taking on number 3 seed Andromedans Ray Thomas and Hayley Von Pelt. Jamil and Shelley could not sustain the high level of play from the Andromedans. The Madesenes tried all they could to try to stay in the match after losing the first set so easily, but could not be able to do so, which allowed Thomas and Von Pelt to claim a straight 6-2, 6-2 win.

He's done it again.

The gods are clearly smiling on Stephen Perez; having already defeated two seeds, his reward was to avoid a third in the next round. Here's where it could have turned south; but Perez held both nerve and serve to come through once again, defeating Ekozian Hjugo van de Hoett in five sets.

No matter what happens in his quarter-final against ninteenth seed Malcolm Press of Electrum, Perez will return a hero, and the youth of Krytenia will be picking up their racquets in an attempt to emulate him.

Good luck, Stevie P!

Double Domination
Centralis, Electrum

Match day 6 of Electrum Slam showed a great result for Pemecutanian delegation especially in Double Competition after the only single, Ngurah Putra Muliawan were being defeated in Round 4 of Electrum Slam. While 3 Pemecutanian doubles continue their performance to Quarter Final after defeated their respected opponents.

A surprise result coming from Oka Sulastra/Luh Putu Yundari who defeated 11th seed, Aline Luiza Romao/Andre Pedrinho Delgado of Costa de Ouro. Sulastra/Yundari shocked the audience by easily defeated Romao/Delgado in the first set. The Pemecutanian double looks in charge of the match and dictate the game play that makes Romao/Delgado surrender by 1-6. In second set, Romao/Delgado try to emerge from Sulastra/Yundari shadow. And they did it greatly. Romao/Delgado able to control their play and balance the situation with Sulastra/Yundari. With a dilligent effort, Romao/Delgado take the second set by 6-4. In the third set, both teams showed a great performance. Neither one of them back down their performance and continue to takes one game at a time until a super tie-break condition occurred. Fortunately, Sulastra/Yundari able to maintain their shoot during the super tie-break which end by their victory. Overall, Oka Sulastra/Luh Putu Yundari win the match by 6-1, 4-6, 9-7.

Ilham Nugraha/Jayadi Ahmad also makes a surprise result by defeated 12th seed, Dusan Ivanovic/Zoran Jovanovic also from Costa de Ouro. The match were begin in a tight atmosphere where both teams takes the game one at a time. The position went critical after Nugraha/Ahmad pushed 6-6 tie-break position. With a great effort and hardwork, Nugraha/Ahmad won the first set with 8-6 tie-break points. The match continued in a tight pace. This time, Ivanovic/Jovanovic who pushed for 6-6 tie-break position. But unfortunately, a wide shot from Jovanovic gives Nugraha/Ahmad their victory point. At the end, Ilham Nugraha/Jayadi Ahmad won the match by 7-6, 7-6.

The third match was between 9th seed, Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati against Will Nolovor/Kell Korden of Ceni. The situation gets very tight from the start. Nolovor/Korden eventually able to pushed a 5-5 deuce in the first set. But Antari/Andreawati able to finished it smoothly by taking the next 2 sets to win the set. In the second set, the situation tighter. Antari/Andreawati were loss at first but able to take their position back and forced 6-6 tie-break. But Nolovor/Korden give a nice play that give them the second set. 7-6 for Nolovor/Korden. In the third set, both player still play in full strength. This time Nolovor/Korden that left behind but they able to balance the position and eventually force super tie-break situation. Antari/Andreawati play more carefully and give a nice shot to end the match. Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati eventually win by 7-5, 6-7, 8-6.

A slight disappointment coming from Single Competition where Ngurah Putra Muliawan lost from 8th seed, Johmer Vales of Ceni in a tight 5 sets match. Muliawan where lost in the first 2 sets but he able to fight back and control the match in third and forth set. But Vales still much stronger than him. In the last set, Muliawan unable to improve his performance and stuck under Vales shadow. He lost the fifth set and ending his placement in the tournament.

Another great news in Quarter Final of Electrum Slam is that 3 Pemecutanian double teams will compete in the Round which the most of all the teams that will be playing in Quarter Final. The other doubles are coming from Ceni (2 teams), Host Electrum (2 teams) and The Andromeda Island (1 team). Pemecutanian double, Ilham Nugraha/Jayadi Ahmad and Oka Sulastra/Luh Putu Yundari also become the only non seeded teams that will be playing in Quarter Final. This result replicate the situation happens in Cenian Open in which 3 Pemecutanian player also reach Quarter Final (2 Singles and 1 Double).

In the Quarter Final, Oka Sulastra will be facing 1st seed, ELia Xal/Fia Xal of Ceni. While Ilham Nugraha/Jayadi Ahmad will be play against 4th seed, Perger Rianor/Ricpeer Rianor also from Ceni. And lastly, 9th seed, Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati will meet 2nd seed, Sonya Gredello/Rosa Levinsky from host nation, Electrum.

Quarterfinals @ Electrum Slam II CourtReport

Image

GANDO: "Hello everyone and welcome to this day 7, Quarterfinal NSHQ Tennis coverage of the Electrum Slam II from the National Tennis Centre in Centralis, I'm Levi Gando with today's CourtReport. Gabe Anderson is the only remaining Madesene in the whole tournament and he took on number 11 seed Cenian Andy Amada on Janine Gredello Arena. Just like he did against Foyner in the round of 16 Anderson played to dominate the court from the very beginning of the match, where he broke Amada's serve to have a 2-0 lead already. From there Amada and Anderson kept hold of their serves; Amada had 0/1 break chances while Anderson had 1/4 in the first set. In the second set Anderson was able to maintain his momentum from the first set and was able to break the Cenian twice this time. Several commentators and court-side commentators noticed that the roaring Electrumite crowd became a factor that kept Anderson going at a very fast tempo, and that is treu. In the third set Amada tried getting himself together to try to stay in the match, but one loss of a game service enabled Anderson to claim a spot into the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 straight win against world number 11! In the semis Anderson will take on his third consecutive Cenian opponent, number 8 seed Johmer Vales.

"The 18 year old Madesene is making his name known in Lumumbaville Today, TennisNow!, Kinshasaburg Times, and is a trend in the sports category in social media, especially Tweeter. Top tennis sporting brands like Bilamba, Dabolat, and Mead have already offered sponsorship with Anderson! Without a doubt Anderson is becoming a very known man in Madesu and Ndaku very quickly at a young age, and at this rate he could be ranked in the top 10 very, very soon. This CourtReport was brought to you by Nia, Avian, Jonah's Creek, and Tomlin Templeton Investments. Coverage of day 8 at Centralis will be broadcasted here all day tomorrow; thanks for watching, good night!"
