Agri Field, Electrum
Cassius watched intently across the field as the Quebecois lined up. "Last time, you suckers literally crushed as to the ground. We'll you might beat us today but not without hell and a dent in your record" he thought. As the Quebecois finished readying themselves, he tried to remember their assault strategy from last time. The Quebecois had swept them off their feet with their feints, but not this time. The Qubecois kicked off the ball. "LEFT, LEFT" he yelled. Brutus Lightfeather, the Strong Safety stopped and then burst forward to try to intercept the Quebecois player who had the ball but the player skillfully dogged him before throwing a fake. Frollick Underworth took the bait and while he turned, the player scored a touchdown depsite the three players bearing down on him. Cassius bit his lip in rage, "just like last time, we are sucking balls."

Until half-time, Quebec scored two touchdowns, and it seemed to be a defeat. As they began the next round, Quebec's star quarterback suddenly tripped and bareled over, causing the Electrum officials to call time out and invade the field. After a few minutes, they wheeled out a stretcher as he had strained his angle and severely torn on of his leg muscles. Emboldened by the accident, Cassius ordered his men to do to massive offensives on opposite sides of the field and pulling their first successful feint, they were able to run the ball down the field for a touchdown. The Quebecois then attempted another touchdown but they were stopped at the 10 yard line and the ball was stolen from them and almost made it to their side of the field before they blocked it. Devise Mildstar however sneaked into the fray grabbed the ball and scored another touchdown. Quebec scored no more touchdowns, and Panem inched back up until they were in the lead at the 3rd quarter. By the 4th quarter, they were winners for certain and when the game ended, Team Panem went wild, doing victory laps all around the stadium and stirring up the rowdy fans who were surprisingly cheering for them, Cassius guessed it was because they were underdogs and everyone likes an underdog.

Back in the locker room, their coach treated them all to a feast while Cassius looked on television. Every station in Panem was broadcasting their victory and when Cassius looked at the scoreboard, he could not believe his eyes when he saw Panem was third place. If Quebec was badly defeated by the Southern Bears tomorrow and if they defeated Atananos which was possible, and were able to beat the Southern Bears the next day, Panem just might make into the top two in the group, just maybe. For certain, Panem would be eliminated at the beginning of the 16 nation match but at least they would have made it to the sweet sixteen.

PHIL MASTERSON CONFIRMS RUMORS OF POSSIBLE INTERNATIONAL RETIREMENT AFTER WORLD BOWL STINT

By Hernan "Hummus" Pereira

SOMER, ELECTRUM - Fresh from their surprise shutout defeat against Pasneila, Abanhfleft's starting quarterback Phil Masterson let slip that this World Bowl campaign may be the last that he would be playing for his country.

At 26 years old, Masterson is still in the prime of his playing career, and he is one of the top quarterbacks in the Fleftic National League of American Football (FNLAF). He is also the starting quarterback of the Dorfdifving Destroyers and has led the team to a FNLAF championship in 2012, and even now he keeps the Destroyers in contention for the league. Meanwhile, he has also shined in the World Bowl for his country, but recently in this World Bowl Masterson seemed to have lost some of his luster. Of course that doesn't mean that his country is losing because of it; it only shows that quite possibly national duties are beginning to take their toll on the quarterback, who was the first pick of the 1998 FNLAF Draft.

CNN Sports managed to catch up with Masterson just as the national team returned to their hotel following their game against Pasneila. He greeted us warmly and invited us into his hotel room, where we set about continuing the questions that we had for him during the post-game press conference.

The first question was the obvious one: whether he actually planned to retire from international gridiron football after this World Bowl. His answer was an emphatic affirmative. "Yes, I am indeed retiring from international duty after this World Bowl," he said. "While it is of course an honor to be chosen as the Democratic Republic's starting quarterback, carrying the hopes of both of your league team and the national team has finally taken a toll on me, and I've decided that it's time that I chose one or the other. And I chose the league."

As for the Armored Revolutionaries' loss against Pasneila, Masterson had only this to say. "They're feisty, Pasneila," Masterson said. "If they manage to keep their country together and not let it fall to anarchy, as so many other promising nations had done in the last couple of years, then they've got a good future ahead of them. But let it be said that everyone in this team has sworn that this will be the last time that Pasneila will defeat us like that. Of course, who knows who in this team will still be in there when the next World Bowl comes?"

When asked about Abanhfleft's chances of hosting an international tournament such as the World Bowl, Masterson's thoughts about the matter were, "We're gonna have to demolish every stadium in our country and build new ones that will conform to the international standard. At the current state we're in, we don't stand a hope in hell."

Quite strong statements from the man whom Fleftics have seen as the face of Fleftic gridiron. While many of the country's gridiron stadiums are not as good as other international stadia, all of the stadiums of the teams participating in the FNLAF, as well as a majority of college football fields, conform to the international standard.

In a related note, the FNLAF is set to begin two months after the conclusion of the World Bowl. Phil Masterson hopes, as he always does, that he will finally be able to lead the Dorfdifving Destroyers to another championship.

Kings Defeat Coreyo, but Still Haven't Clinched

Kaboomlandia beat Coreyo 48-21 Wednesday, but a 17-14 win over Vakolicci by Electrum meant that the Kings now have a must-win game against Electrum tomorrow. Tyler Martin got the start for the Kings, who are 7-2. In the first quarter, the Kings got the ball first after losing the coin toss, but made up for it by throwing a touchdown pass to receiver Lamar Anderson, who made a beautiful one-handed catch right off the bat to make it 7-0. On Coreyo's possession, though, free safety Scott Falk made an error in coverage and allowed a Coreyo player to complete a 51-yard pass, leading to a touchdown of their own. When the Kings got the ball back near the beginning of the second quarter, Martin used his speed and awareness to find tight end Enoch Bailey down the right side for 22 yards. Off the next play, Martin found another one of his receivers, James Malone, wide open in the end zone for a touchdown. Keep in mind that the Electrumite fans were watching all this with a gradually sinking heart, as Electrum was trailing at the time and watching their playoff hopes slipping away. After the Kings held off Coreyo and forced them to punt, star running back Andrew Michaels returned the punt 51 yards for another touchdown. The score was 21-7 at halftime.

When Coreyo got the ball to start the third quarter, their quarterback was able to make several good passes and score a touchdown to pull Coreyo within seven. The Kings, however, had other ideas. On the Kings' next drive, Tyler Martin found Manny Hayes deep for a long pass, and then Bailey for a touchdown. After Coreyo had scored again, Martin went back to work, but couldn't get a touchdown this time and had to settle for a field goal. The score was 31-21 after three quarters. With the Kings having forced a punt right before the quarter ended, Martin had the ball and was able to find Jack White and then Hayes for another touchdown. The Kings never let up, and eventually won 48-21, with McCallum having gotten another field goal. Unfortunately, Electrum rallied to win 17-14 to keep their playoff hopes alive.

NEXT UP: It all comes down to this. If the Kings beat Electrum or lose by less than 22 points, the Kings will punch their ticket to the playoffs.

AROUND THE GROUP:
Greater Vakolicci Haven 14-17 Electrum
United States of Devonta 24-43 Timbermunich

San Llera Stay In Hunt With Shock Win Over Equestrian States

San Llera have refused to go away in this World Bowl Group E, winning their 4th consecutive game over football powerhouse Equestrian States to move into a three-way-tie for second. A last-second field goal from Martini Prado gave San Llera a 10-7 lead, and consequently, a win. It was a low-scoring affair, with only 17 points between them, but San Llera's defense was just the more suffocating of the two, holding Equestrian States's quarterback, Score, to just 60 yards. Equestrian States had much more success on the ground, though, with John Erwin and Sonic Strike combining for 185 yards. However, their rushing game didn't come through when it counted, as a 1st quarter 4th-and-1 from the 1-yard line failed to turn into a touchdown. A field goal in that sistuation would have ended up being huge in this game lacking ample points Equestrian States did score on their next possession, their second possession, and it seemed as if their offense would easily pound San Llera's defense. However, Equestrian States stalled after that, gaining a mere 6 yards in the remainder of the half. San Llera then equaled the score in the 3rd quarter when Agusti Basso found Pau Belles several times before Normando finished off the drive with an 11-yard run. A quarter later, same score, Equestrian States had a 4th-and-4 from San Llera's 36-yard line, and elected to go for the field goal. Blackstone's kick had the opportunity to give Equestrian States the lead with 1 minute left, but the kick went agonizingly wide. San Llera got the ball from the 36-yard line. Agusti Basso completed two passes to get to the Equestrian States 41, and Normando devastated Equestrian fans with an 11-yard run, setting up of 47-yard field goal from Martini Prado. Prado drained the attempt, San Lleran sidelines went crazy, and San Llera won, 10-7.

After the game, Xavier Pan was understandably happy:
Now, most people said that this is the third-ranked team, that we can't possibly beat them, but WE DID! WE ANNIHILATED THEM! WE ALWAYS WIN!

Agusti Basso wasn't fantastic, but a 10/22, 155 yard performance was just good enough. Normando also wasn't fantastic, but 118 yards on 31 attempts still wasn't at all bad.

San Llera are now in a three-way tie for second in Group E heading into the final matchday at 6-3. New North Aqmuland, who they'll play next, is in first at 7-2, while San Llera sits tied with Equestrian States and San Jose Guayabal.

FRP Sports Network: Cougars Dominate Vangaziland 29-0

MD9 - Three different Pasneila players scored touchdowns, while Marcus Keith led a strong defensive performance as the Cougars rolled to a 29-0 victory over Vangaziland Tuesday afternoon at Somer Stadium. Pasneila (6-3) kept their playoff hopes alive with their third consecutive dominating victory in group play. The Cougars will face Vermark, who has just upset Abanhfleft in overtime, next in the last match of the group play this Wednesday. Kickoff is set for Noon at Somer Stadium. The contest will be televised all throughout Pasneila.

Everette Roberts threw for one touchdown and caught another, while completing 22-of-41 passes for 171 yards. Chad Bridges rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Pasneila totaled 487 total yards, including 316 on the ground. While the Cougar offense scored 29 points, the defense was key to the win. Pasneila held Vangaziland to 2-of-13 on third downs and just 216 yards through the air on 14-of-33 passing. Keith led the defense with 10 tackles as well as a sack, forced fumble, fumble recovery, 1.5 tackles for losses, two pass break-ups and two quarterback hurries.

Both teams traded punts on their opening drives. After Pasneila's Edgar Lamb intercepted a pass on the third drive of the game, the Cougars would miss their field goal attempt from 37 yards out. Pasneila threatened on its next drive, but fumbled inside the Vangaziland's own five yard line. However, the Cougars forced a Vangaziland punt. Pasneila worked its way to the red zone again with 33 seconds left before the break. Roberts found Oscar Bridges for a 13-yard touchdown. The Cougars then went for a two-point conversion and holder Daniel Knox converted the attempt for a 8-0 Cougar halftime lead.

The Cougars opened the third quarter with the ball and drove 71 yards in nine plays to take a 15-0 lead. Bridges had four rushes for 37 rushes on the drive. Bridges capped it off with a nine-yard rushing score and Lester added the extra point. Pasneila wasted little time gaining a 29-point lead. On third and short, Bridges looked stopped at the line of scrimmage, but made a spin up the middle and out-ran the Vangaziland defense for a 50-yard run to the eight yard line. It was his longest rush of the season. On the next play, Bridges took a direct snap and pitched the ball to Daniel Knox on a reverse that would complete a pass to Roberts in the end zone to put Pasneila up 29-0 with just over four minutes left in the third quarter. Vangaziland was held to just 54 rushing yards by the Pasneila defense. Darrell Thornton and Alexander Dickson each added five tackles, while Edgar Lamb had the interception.

Note: Pasneila clinches a playoff spot if they defeat Vermark.

Templesmith Hour, Panem
Image
"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the Templesmith Hour, and I am your host, the venerable Cladius Templesmith. Now, we will look to the bright nation of Electrum where Panem is making its first debute in international sports. Although our football team got off to a rather rocky start, they have certainly made a come back.

As of now, our boys and girls have made to third place in their group, after beating the mightly (or not so mighty) Quebecois. However, to advance out of the elimination round, Panem must be at least in second place. Ko-oren, who has given us a sound beating in each match we;ve played, has already clinched the group. And all other nations have been eliminated excepting for a tie between us and Quebec.

To break this tie, Panem has to beat the Southern Bears tomorrow, and Quebec has to lose to the Minecraft Miners. So let's turn to the team coach, Mr. Meadowlark. Mr. Meadowlark, you are on".

MEADOWLARK: As you said, Cladius, we are doing quite well for a team who has never played in international sports before. And while I am happy where we are, I certainly would love to lead our team out of this elimination round, although I have doubts about being able to survive long beyond that. Presently, things are looking good for the matchup between us and the Southern Bears. In our last match, we defeated the bears but we will not take any chances this time. Even though I do predict a win tomorrow, we need Quebec to lose and I think it will take more than a miracle for the Mediocre Miners to beat Quebec. Still, we are crossing our fingers. A defeat for Quebec tomorrow and victory for Panem would mean our team being able to advance.

TEMPLESMITH: Alright, thank you for enlightening us, and as we always say. May the odds be ever in your favor. Ladies and gentlemen, Coach Meadowlark of the Panem Football Federation. And now for our break, we will be back shortly-"

Kings Punch Ticket to Playoffs

The Kings are going to the playoff round in their first-ever World Bowl. A 30-24 win over Electrum in the rain locked up the second playoff spot for 8-2 Kaboomlandia. In the first quarter, the Kings went back to their running game that helped them win 26-0 over Vakolicci, but couldn't get past the stifling defense of Electrum. When Electrum got the ball back, quarterback Bill Kransky found wide receiver Hal Bayley on several passes, including one in the end zone to give the home team a 7-0 lead. When the Kings got the ball back, they tried something new. Third running back Aaron Richards was moved to fullback to help Andrew Michaels get a hold, and the move worked, as the Kings punched the ball in from the four-yard line. The score was 7-7 after one quarter. Electrum had the ball back just before the second quarter started, and this time they scored another passing touchdown, this time to Luke Hitchener. Near the end of the first half, defensive back Richard Cody intercepted a Kransky pass meant for Bayley, bringing the ball down at the Electrum 38. The Kings used a time-out, and, needing a boost, took a risk and tried a pass from Tyler Martin to Lamar Anderson. The move worked, and the score was tied 14-14 at halftime.

The rain intensified in the second half. Electrum had to make changes, using running back Richmond Thorne a lot more, and it paid off against a more pass-oriented Kings defense, scoring the go-ahead touchdown. However, after the Kings had been stopped again, the tide would turn:

"Kransky takes the snap and hands off to Thorne. Richmond Thorne, tries to go straight ahead...bowled over by Johnson, and the ball's loose! Cameron Johnson jumps on the ball, and it's a Kings ball! Johnson forced the fumble and got it himself!"

The Kings proceeded from there, punching the ball in again from running back Michaels. The score was 21-21 after three quarters. In the fourth quarter, the Electrumites scored a field goal from Nicholas Glove. After the Kings were stopped again, they punted and were able to force a safety, falling behind by a point. But time was running out, and with just nine seconds left, this happened:

"Kings trailing by one, crowd getting into it. Martin gets back from the time-out, going to have to throw deep here. Tyler Martin takes the snap. Under pressure, oh, he eludes a sack there. High and long is the pass! It is...CAUGHT BY HAYES! To the 30...25...20...15...THE KINGS ARE GONNA WIN THE BALL GAME! THE KINGS ARE GONNA WIN THE FOOTBALL GAME!"

Manny Hayes caught the 68-yard pass for the touchdown to make it a 30-24 win final. The onslaught of rain will continue for Saturday's Round of 16 game as a cyclone is projected to enter Electrum. The Kings are the 12th-ranked team.

ROUND OF 16:
Allamunnic States is 9-1 in their group win, though they lost their last game 14-3 to Nephara. The Kings have a seven-game winning streak going for them. The game will be televised nationally.

Clinched!
13-0 win over Thereisnogodistan secures Group F title

The offense sputtered a little bit against a Thereisnogodistani side that was fighting for its hopes at advancing, but ultimately, they were able to shutout their opponents while scoring three times, removing the last of their competition for the Group F lead with the win. It is notable that, even if the Regulars should drop their last two games, they can finish no worse than 8-2, while second-place Nassau-Hessen can finish no better than 8-2, with the Allamunnae owning the head-to-head tie-breaker. Thereisnogodistan, in addition to losing the head-to-head tie-breaker with the Regulars, cannot finish better than 7-3, and thus, cannot pass the Allamunnae either.

Once again, Graagur Baaltrsunn led the rushing attack, although as always the offensive line was the power behind the game. Baaltrsunn took 25 rushes for 109 yards and a touchdown, bulling into the endzone on a 6-yard run early in the third quarter to give the Regulars a 10-0 lead that established the tone for the second half.

Meanwhile, Ella Kaarbrynn and Brandt Hendriks took comparatively light loads this time, rushing 10 and 8 times for 31 and 26 yards respectively. Izaak Kleiner was sacked twice on 14 dropbacks, going 8/12 for 124 yards. Justyn Kynyks knocked in two field goals of 41 yards (in the second quarter) and 36 yards (in the fourth quarter) to help key the Regulars to the win.

The win means that the Regulars go into their final two games, against Le Grove and Nephara, with nothing apart from seeding to play for. When asked what this meant for starting lineups, head coach Baeryk Vaalburger was noncommittal.

"We may well keep playing the starters in both games, since seeding can sometimes make a difference. Of course, so does being healthy, so we may just pull them at some point during both games, or start the back-ups. I don't honestly know at the moment. That's something that the other coaches and I will discuss before each of the next two games. We've had some injuries to starters over the last several games, so that's reason we might play it safe. On the other hand, the lower we're seeded, the higher the odds we'll draw a tougher opponent in the Round of Sixteen."

In light of the Regulars' injury history in this tournament, we suspect that the starters will not remain in for the entire game against either Le Grove or Nephara; realistically, the only major question is whether the starters will play against Nephara at all, and when they'll be pulled against Le Grove.

Regulars make short work of Le Grove
Starters largely pulled after first quarter of 20-0 win

Ultimately, the Allamunnic starters only played a quarter against Le Grove before a near-miss on an injury to Godwyn Braanur arguably spooked head coach Baeryk Vaalburger into pulling them from the game. Nonetheless, that quarter of work was enough for the Regulars to outscore Le Grove and ensure the win, with Graagur Baaltrsunn rushing 10 times for 55 yards and a touchdown in that span as he single-handedly carried the offense.

After the first minute of the second quarter, the starting eleven on both sides of the ball found themselves pulled from the game, additionally giving Vaalburger and the other coaches the chance to see how their back ups would play against an opponent still determined to get the upset.

The results were... well, not bad at all.

Ella Kaarbrynn flashed the skills that have seen her rapidly take the role as the primary change-up back behind Baaltrsunn, rushing 20 times for 102 yards and a touchdown. Brandt Hendriks rushed 12 times for 43 yards in complementary duty. Alas, Kaarbrynn's touchdown was the one where Kaarl Hunt shanked the point after, although he later redeemed himself by hitting a 48 yard field goal from a somewhat tricky angle, with room to spare. Torren Tormundsunn got a few rare carries, rushing four times for 16 yards.

Waldr Grenn also flashed a bit at quarterback, showing solid decision-making and plenty of talent. He did well utilizing Waldr Hoerst and Junn Lindstrom as his main security blankets, hitting Emma Kaarlsunn for a few big gains, and helping Udun Jaarlsunn display his own talent (as a tight end with break away speed) by hitting him on a deep route in the seam for a 42-yard touchdown in the second quarter. He also displayed excellent pocket presences, slipping several tackles while he waited for Hoerst and Lindstrom to get open on several plays.

On the defensive side of the ball, the long-held assumption that the Regulars have significant depth across the board was confirmed as Mikel Ulrik terrorized the Le Grove receivers, laying ghastly hits on several to prevent them from securing the catch. Some of the rookie linebackers looked a little lost in the presnap process at times, but Bryndyn Nyurdsunn showed his intelligence and head for the game by making the right calls and adjustments, getting them positioned and in place.

In the secondary, the only real worrying sign was the number of times Soryn Laands looked lost in coverage. Still, he managed to correct his mistakes reasonably well as the game went on, and he showed good potential, even if his conversion from wide receiver to cornerback looks to still be a work in progress.

The reserves on the defensive line quietly had a good, effective game, where they did not flash especially, but there was not a noticeable drop in performance, meaning they still capably did their jobs. Pressure was exerted on the quarterback, and the Le Grove rushing attack had to fight for every inch.

But the greatest revelation was Ardryk Jaarlsunn, who looks to be in line for an increased role for the rest of the tournament, as he besieged the opposing quarterback, tallying three sacks and three other tackles for loss of a total of nine. The rangy outside linebacker provided the motor and fire for the defense, stripped of its usual leaders, while Nyurdsunn provided it with its field general. Kaarl Bronn was also a revelation, stepping up to bat down two passes and snag a third, likely earning himself a greater role in the starting defense.

In fact, coach Vaalburger was so pleased with the results that he even made his decision for the game against Nephara immediately after the game.

"Based on what they showed today, I feel perfectly at ease benching our regular starters and starting the same players that played most of today's game. I'm very impressed with what we saw from them, and I think that, even if Nephara comes out swinging, they'll be able to learn a lot and prepare themselves for our playoff run."

The Regulars are one of three teams that are still 9-0 entering the final game of the group stage, and, like the others, has securely locked up its group, making their final game for nothing more significant than seeding (although the Regulars cannot wind up seeded worse than 8th).

Onto the Republics
Backups fall shortin meaningless game against Nephara; Allamunnae draw Holy Republican Empire for Ro16

Ultimately, a Nepharan team playing for pride, with its starters, desperate to knock off the defending champions, were too fired up for the Allamunnic reservists to defeat, with the Regulars falling 14-3.

A fired-up Nepharan side was able to stifle the backup offensive line, playing without the same cohesion as the starters generally do, to tie up the running game and keep Waldr Grenn on the run for much of the game. He was sacked four times, and threw an interception on 24 dropbacks, going 10/19 for 152 yards.

Meanwhile, Ella Kaarbrynn absorbed a low hit early on and spent much of the game hobbled, taking on a lighter role with only 8 carries for 25 yards, while Brandt Hendriks took on the lions share of the carries, rushing 29 times for 92 yards. The only score the team managed was Kaarl Hunt's 35-yarder in the second quarter, while Nephara benefited from two big punt returns to put them in position to punch in two touchdowns.

The defense fought hard for most of the game, but being consistently handed poor field position against a fired-up, aggressive offense eventually took its toll; although the game was not a bad one, defensively, for almost any team, the Regulars' back-up defenders gave up one more point than the team had allowed in the previous nine games.

Part of the problem was Soryn Laands. Laands' inexperience proved to be a problem, as he was picked on repeatedly for decent gains before he finally went down with a season-ending injury (a fractured tibia). Loren Sult was shuffled over to corner in a pinch to replace Laands, but his inexperience at the position showed, and he was picked on as well.

The redeeming bright spot for the defense was, once again, Ardryk Jaarlsunn, who sacked the Nepharan signal-caller twice and had a few other tackles for loss to go with a team-high 10 total tackles. Mikel Ulrik also forced a fumble that helped ensure that the score was not worse than it was.

After the game, head coach Baeryk Vaalburger did not apologize for resting the starters. "Honestly, when we made that call, we knew there was a solid chance of this happening. I still think we made the right call, letting our regular starters rest up and recover before the playoffs. As you know, we've drawn the Holy Republican Empire, and that game is not going to be a gimme," he told reporters at the evening press conference. "The Kings are going to throw a tough game at us, and I think we did right by letting our team recover and prepare to weather that storm. Especially because, even if we make it past them, it will only get tougher from there."

The 12th-seeded HRE presents a challenge to the 5th-seeded Regulars as a team with an explosive offense. The Regulars should still be the favored team in this match-up, if nothing else on the strength of their extensive playoff experience. Still, they cannot afford to look past their opponents.

"They're a dangerous team, and they think they've got their god on their side," Maarkus Staalhelm told reporters. "We're looking forward to the chance to end that take them down a peg and show them that just isn't true, but still, we can't take them lightly. It's not going to be an easy game. As it shouldn't be, since it is the playoffs," he said.

Timbermunich Tidbits
World Bowl XXVI

River
Timbermunich’s life force emanates from within the Heart of the Grove, but it also gets life from the rivers that run throughout the land. The waters are fresh, clear, and invigorating as they flow outward to the coasts/boarders of Timbermunich. They are lined with lush plants and in some locations enveloped in tree cover. The waters nourish life from the smallest insects that utilize the waters for their entire life cycle all the way up to the villages that use the waters for drinking, cooling, and in some of their manufacturing. These rivers have and never will be dammed; they are allowed to flow freely in any way that nature sees fit. The people take into consideration the rivers flow whenever expanding their villages, they are careful not to disrupt the waters natural path and they are careful not to build anything where the rivers might overflow their banks. This respect for the rivers, in addition to drinking water, cooling purposes, and manufacturing, also allows the people of Timbermunich to use the waters for food. They hunt along the pathways of the rivers, they fish from the out streams and pools created by backflow. The villagers even use the rivers for holding special ceremonies throughout the year, these even include death ceremonies where loved ones are floated down river to symbolize giving life back to the waters that provide so much to them. In recent years the waters have even been used for some recreational events, but they are always started and finished with some form of thanks given to the rivers. Time will tell how the people of Timbermunich progress but it is clear that the rivers will be an important part of their culture throughout time.

This nation typically does not do match reports or previews, however I decided to add one in for the playoffs and to give some fuel to Kaboomlandia for their post match or follow up pre match RP (if they choose).

Also apologies for not being fully committed with RPing either of my nations, lots of RL items getting in the way right now.

The next round begins with our LumberKings prepare to face off against Group B Rival Kaboomlandia. The two teams split the series 1 game to 1 with the LumberKings just edging out the Kings on GD. The first meeting saw the newcomers falling by a score of 40-7, but then on the second meeting the LumberKings took them lightly and lost 47-31 as Tyler Martin seemed to get his feet underneath himself and produced a great showing for the Kings. We shouldn’t expect the third meeting to be much different from the second game, well other than perhaps the final score. This is especially true considering the wakeup call the loss gave Timbermunich. The score for this next game should be rather high considering both teams rely on their offenses to get things done. The Kings are a little more defensive than the LumberKings, which is potentially why Timbermunich couldn’t recover after being down by 24 in the first half of their second meeting. However, weather conditions could prove difficult to contend with for both sides as a severe storm system is moving through Electrum. Travel via air is not advised so Timbermunich will be taking the rather slow bus trip to the game (hope they arrive on time). No matter what the Kings have shown that they are a team not to be taken lightly, by anyone. Only time will tell which side is to prevail and let the best team advance. Good luck to all the contenders looking to advance!

San Llera Are In The Round Of 16!!!!

After a 2-3 start in Group E, San Llera have miraculously came back, and yesterday's 31-14 victory over New North Aqmuland sealed their spot in the round of 16, a feat very difficult to achieve for newcomers. 5 consecutive victories behind very good defense and the rushing of Normando have brought San Llera to this point, and those attributes were what carried them over New North Aqmuland, a team ranked 19th who was previously at the top of the group. Normando in particular was fantastic, accumulating 200 rushing yards on just 28 attempts, one of which was a 54-yard touchdown, but it was the defense that created everything. Felip Vela had a first-quarter pick six to initially put San Llera up 7-0, then a fumble (forced by Vela) on the ensuing kickoff gave San Llera great field position to score again, but they could only muster a field goal. After that, San Llera's offense couldn't do anything for the rest of the half, and New North Aqmuland took advantage to pull the deficit to 10-7. Enter Normando. Normando, just 30 seconds before halftime, rushed up the middle, broke several tackles, and won a footrace to the end zone to give San Llera a 17-7 lead at halftime. The floodgates then burst loose in the third quarter, with Normando rushing and catching a touchdown each to put San Llera up 31-7. A late Aqmulandian touchdown wasn't much consolation. San Llera 31, New North Aqmuland, 17. San Llera: 2nd place; New North Aqmuland: 3rd place.

After the game, Xavier Pan was happy as always:
I think that game was a show of the San Lleran fighting spirit. We were 2-3 in this group, heavy underdogs against some of the teams, but we came through. 19th? We beat them easily. 3rd? Another win! Ranks don't matter. Heart does.

Normando had 29 attempts, 200 yards, and 2 touchdowns rushing. He also caught 5 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. Agusti Basso went 9/22 with 180 yards and a touchdown, while Felip Vela was outstanding with a forced fumble and a pick six.

San Llera are in the round of 16, where they'll face #2 Taeshan as a #15 seed. Taeshan went 10-0, but San Llera can be the first to bring them down in Port Grenville.

- The Padded Dragonfly: Unofficial home of Ko-orenite Gridiron -
Schedule changes and Defensive records

It has finally happened! Years of defensive gridiron have paid off. Ko-oren officially has the best point avoiding defence of the World Bowl! Twenty-one points in all ten games is the new standard. The Allamunnic States came close with 27, but their last matchday 14-3 loss to Nephara saw them fall from first to second. Overall, the points per game allowed is way worse than in recent World Bowls, but defensive gridiron seems to have taken a hit. Ko-oren's 1,17 points per game in World Bowl 25 were not enough to take the imaginary trophy home, but our current 2,1 points per game suffice.

The Dragonflies still have work to do in the yard department, as we gave up 240 yards on average per game. This is still definitely less than the usual Ko-orenite league best (which was 270,1 last season), but then again the average level of domestic teams is higher than the new World Bowl nations. The 240 yards are good, but not close to the World Bowl-wide leader.

The last game was against Atanatos, who were already far from qualifying. Two touchdowns and a field goal were more than enough to beat the newbies, who were completely shut out for a 17-0 loss.

In our group, the only interesting thing would be the Quebec-Panem results: both won their last game for a record of 7-3. The Quebecois made it based on head to head point differential. The Minecraft Miners went 0-10 in our group, joining a total of four teams with 0-10. The opposite was also possible: Saintland and Taeshan went 10-0.

The seeding has been announced, and Ko-oren is the sixth best team overall. This means we will play the Royal Kingdom of Quebec in what basically is Matchday eleven of the group stage. Our earlier games against our regional rivals ended in 14-7 and 14-13, so each time the 'home' team won. In an earlier schedule, the opponent would be the Holy Republican Empire, and maybe we would have prefered to play them looking at the rankings. However... a regional regional (yes, regional regional: both are in Atlantian Oceania, in the Northwest corner) rematch is probably the best way to start off the knockout stage. Nobody needs any motivation... it's Quebec we're talking about.

The Greenblues will be making their way to Prescott over the course of two days. The team is currently in Centralis, and it is a fair way west to Prescott. There is a flight to there, but the Electrum Bureau of Meteorology has issued severe storm warnings. Our coaches have decided to take the bus there instead, and the players did not complain. The game itself is going to be a rainy one, so we hope they can prepare the field itself before any snap is played. Hopefully the second largest city of Electrum is well protected by natural barriers, by which we mean the northwestern mountain range here. Like a modern Hannibal, the bus driver first has to get our men and women across the range into Prescott.

Ko-oren fans are not recommended to make the trip west, for two reasons. One is the natural danger from the bad weather, and two is the legendary alcohol policy in Prescott, and it is no real surprise our national symbols and sports teams should remain free of acoholic beverages and blemishes.

Retraction

The World Bowl organizers, as well as kbmsports.com, made an error. Kaboomlandia will actually play Timbermunich in the Round of 16. We apologize for the mistake.

Playoff Preview and Predictions

So, as the Kings have now made the Round of 16 in their first World Bowl, here are some things to note, from this morning's media availability session. Tyler Martin will start again at quarterback for the Kings. Martin has played six games for the Kings and won five of them. Timbermunich has the same record as the Kings and split the series between them, but Timbermunich's Day 1 win over the Kings gave them the differential advantage.

Predictions:
Saintland (1) vs Schottia (16)
Saintland for this one. Schottia barely got in with a win in their last game.
Equestrian States (8) vs Nassau-Hessen (9)
Nassau-Hessen. In fact, they actually have a better record than the equine team.
Allamunnic States (5) vs Holy Republican Empire (12)
I predict Allamunnic States to win, the defending champions and world #1 team.
Gregoryisgodistan (4) vs Pasneila (13)
I predict the Grid Slaves all the way.

Cosumar (3) vs Hopnation (14)
Cosumar for this game. Cosumar is coming off a 64-10 win and near-undefeated performance, while Hopnation actually lost their final game.
Ko-oren (6) vs Royal Kingdom of Quebec (11)
Another group stage rematch, I'll have to give this round to Quebec.
Timbermunich (7) vs Kaboomlandia (10)
The Kings have the streak going and a strong run game. I'll give this round to the Kings.
Taeshan (2) vs San Llera (15)
One of only two undefeated teams in the group stage, I give this round to Taeshan.

Electrum Bureau of Meteorology Report

A severe warning is in place for the entire whole of Electrum because of the incoming Cyclone George. Cyclone George is a category-3 tropical cyclone system and is expected to strengthen to a category-5, and is expected to make landfall tomorrow (OOC: Two days before the Ro16 matches) 160 nautical miles or 300 kilometres south of Agri. Agri is expected to bear the brunt of the tropical cyclone with damage and widespread flooding expected, especially in the flat areas in suburban Agri as well as the coastal area. All other major cities in Electrum except for Prescott will have severe weather conditions, with storms and also the possibility of flash flooding. Prescott is mainly insulated from the weather due to it's mountain range, and will probably not be affected by the cyclone.

Gridiron Electrum Press Statement

After receiving the Electrum Bureau of Meterology emergency report, Gridiron Electrum has decided to continue on with the matches. This is because that the cyclone should subside by the time we play the Round of 16 matches. All will continue as normal, but muddy and wet conditions are expected in all the cities except for Prescott, so teams are expected to prepare for that. Teams were given the choice of taking a risk and taking a plane to their next destination, or to bus to the next city. Despite the risk of stormy weather, due to the large distance between cities, a plane is preferred. Gridiron Electrum will continue to monitor the situation

Kaboomlandian Plane Carrying TV Crew Skids off Runway

A plane carrying a television crew from KBM Sports Network was arriving in Fairleigh Saturday morning when it skidded off the runway on landing. Kaboomlandia Air Flight 5548 was carrying KBMSN officials arriving to televise the Kings' unlikely run to the Round of 16. Upon landing, the plane reportedly skidded, spun 120 degrees, and came to rest just off the runway. There were a few injuries, two of them being critical and requiring hospitalization. The aircraft is salvageable, and Kaboomlandia Air officials will pay the repair costs of the plane. The Round of 16 is expected to be affected heavily by Cyclone George, with Agri expected to bear the brunt of the damage.

Kings Not Fazed by Rainy Conditions

The Kings will have to play Timbermunich tomorrow in the rain and mud, but it's not new to them. In fact, in only Match Day 8, they shut out Vakolicci 26-0 in the rain. They just have to maintain their strong run game and defense that got them here. Coach Frederic Allemande stated that the team should be fine in the rain, and their defense will hopefully be able to force fumbles in the slippery conditions.

Kings Tournament Summary

Here's a summary of the tournament so far:
MD1: Timbermunich 40, Kaboomlandia 7
In the Kings' debut, Tyler Martin was awful, throwing an interception and handing off to the running back which led to a fumble before being yanked.
MD2: Kaboomlandia 33, United States of Devonta 6
Travis Reuben got the start and played well, throwing four touchdowns.
MD3: Kaboomlandia 20, Greater Vakolicci Haven 30
Reuben started again, but it was middle linebacker Nathan LaBon that played the game of his life, recording four sacks and ten tackles to help the Kings nearly rally from a 30-6 deficit.
MD4: Kaboomlandia 48, Coreyo 0
Allemande took a risk here choosing third-stringer Russell Jones, and he was excellent. In particular, the Kings secondary of Richard Cody and Cameron Johnson played well again, as they have all tournament.
MD5: Electrum 10, Kaboomlandia 32
The Kings silenced the hosts with a win here. Caleb McCallum was an all-star for the Kings with a record six field goals. Frederic Allemande went back to Tyler Martin, but with McCallum's heroics, they didn't seem to need him.
MD6: Timbermunich 31, Kaboomlandia 47
Allemande had confidence in going back to Tyler Martin, who had won the last game, and he broke out. McCallum recorded another four field goals, who is becoming an all-star in this tournament.
MD7: Kaboomlandia 47, United States of Devonta 10
The Kings demolished Devonta in a walk to hold onto their death grip for a playoff spot. Caleb McCallum got another four field goals for 14 in three games. Tyler Martin played the first three quarters and then was pulled when the result became obvious.
MD8: Kaboomlandia 26, Greater Vakolicci Haven 0
Kaboomlandia showed their ironclad defense, allowing no points in a game they had to win. McCallum got another field goal.
MD9: Coreyo 21, Kaboomlandia 48
Martin was in for the Kings, who did what they had to do, destroying Coreyo to keep their playoff spot. McCallum got two more field goals for 17 in five games.
MD10: Electrum 24, Kaboomlandia 30
In the final game, and a must-win for the Kings, they showed their mettle with a last-second touchdown by Manny Hayes. The all-star kicker McCallum got another field goal.

FRP Sports Network: Roberts, Pasneila Runs Over Vermark to the Round of 16

MD10 - Behind a career-high 264 yards from quarterback Everette Roberts, Pasneila rushed for 417 yards and routed Vermark in the last group match of the 2015 World Bowl on Wednesday at rain-soaked Somer Stadium. With the victory, Pasneila (7-3) moves on to the Round of 16 this Friday, where it will face the Group H winner, #8 (9-1) Gregoryisgodistan. Pasneila has luckily faced the Grid Slaves twice already, although Gregoryisgodistan beat the Cougars 10-0 on MD1 and MD6.

With several inches of rain on the ground and a mixture of drizzle at times throughout the game, Pasneila turned almost exclusively to its running game in Wednesday's win. The Cougars threw only seven passes, but ran 59 times for 417 yards, by far their highest totals of the season. Roberts was the catalyst of Pasneila's ground attack, collecting the 264 yards on just 16 carries (16.5 yards per rush). He ran for two touchdowns, including an 89-yarder, which was the longest in Pasneila history.

One of Roberts' few undesirable moments came on the Cougar's second possession, when he threw an interception that was returned 23 yards to the Cougar 12 yard line. One play later, The Vermark quarterback connected for a 12-yard touchdown pass that gave them an early 7-0 lead. From there, it was all Pasneila, as it scored the game’s next 45 points to squash Vermark hopes for to play spoiler. The Cougars all but abandoned the pass after the opening minutes of the rainy contest, running the ball on 30-of-31 plays at one point in the first half. The strategy paid off with Pasneila scoring four rushing touchdowns in the final 20 minutes of the first half to take a commanding 28-7 halftime lead. The Cougars held a 291-52 edge in total yardage in the opening half, including a 291-(-26) advantage on the ground.

Coming out of the locker room, Pasneila went back to the air and completed its only two passes of the afternoon on its first drive of the second half. The first completion, a 12-yarder from Roberts to Richard Copeland that would convert a third-and-nine. Three possessions later, Roberts found Richard Parks for a 35-yard touchdown that stretched the advantage to 35-7. Following Parks touchdown catch, Pasneila returned to the ground for 20 of its final 21 plays to run out the clock on the 45-7 point victory. Linebacker Alexander Dickson led Pasneila's dominating defensive effort with 10 tackles. Fellow linebacker Marcus Keith added seven tackles, including a sack and 2.5 stops for loss, and Darrell Thornton also notched a sack and 2.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Running back Avery Broddick had been on the cramped shuttle bus from Prescott to Hamilton for at least five hours. Traffic had been at a standstill outside Hamilton for at least 30 minutes. Everyone and their cousin was trying to get home thanks to the effects of the impending Cyclone George storm system. Typical Rushmori weather. Horrible. He couldn't even listen to music in peace to pass the time. He turned the volume on his headphones as high as he dared, but it still wasn't enough to block out the sounds of howling wind, pounding rain and blaring car horns that enveloped the vehicle.

Hell, he could scarcely even move. He was sandwiched between the window and Armando Gutierrez. Of course, as a rookie to the National Team, he had to be the one assigned to share a seat with the biggest lineman on the team. The ache in his rear from sitting in the same position for half a day was almost worse than any ache he had ever received from playing football. Almost.

Gutierrez let out a gargling snore, and Avery tried to twist to a more comfortable position as slowly as possible to avoid waking the sleeping giant. Jakkrik Levinsson, the starting quarterback, leaned back from the seat in front of Avery (which he had all to himself, of course) and grinned as Avery contorted his body in his seat like an unhappy toddler.

"Mr. Broddick, are you enjoying the ride thus far?"

Avery liked the blonde-headed quarterback. He was certainly a character. Avery didn't know him too well, but he was always joking, with a witty response to everything. As quick with his tongue as he was with his arm. But he wasn't in the mood for Jakrikk's lighthearted teasing. He scribbled a response on the misty window with his finger: FUCK OFF. Jakkrik seemed to take it as a challenge. He feigned a hurt expression and responded.

"You know. Just because the weather is miserable as all hell doesn't mean you have to be."

The rookie runningback heaved a sigh and tried to ignore him.

"...Wow, I know what it is. Heh. You're still pissed about the playoffs, aren't you?"

Jakkrik's team, the Kaldukosic Kataklysm, had knocked Avery's Jadde Bruins out of the CFL Playoffs in the Silver Conference Semifinals. Jakkrik had led the undefeated Kataklysm back from a 20-9 deficit with three minutes remaining. Avery had watched helplessly from the sidelines as Jakkrik wrenched away the Bruins' near-upset at the last second. Certainly a valid reason to hold a grudge.

"Nah man, that's not it at all," Avery said firmly. "The CFL season is in the past. When we're fighting for Cosumar together, we are countrymen. We're teammates. We're brothers. To win the World Bowl, we need to have each other's backs 100%, and I'm not letting nothin' get in the way of that. You can count on me."

*sniff* "That's the nicest thing anyone's ever ever said to me." Jakkrik put his hand over his heart, pretending to be touched.

Avery rolled his eyes. "Don't think it means I won't be hell-bent on payback come September. There are some guys on our defense that would love nothing more than to lay the hit that messes up your perfect teeth."

"I would expect nothing less."

After another few minutes of listening to the rain's endless barrage against the metallic roof, Jakkrik leaned over the back his seat again and studied Avery for a few seconds. Jakkrik had turned 30 this year, and he had been playing the game long enough to recognize when someone else had that same fire that he did. That relentless competitive desire to win, to be the best. It wasn't a common trait, even in the CFL. But he could see it in Avery's eyes, even as he looked out the bus window.

"Why the hell are you staring at me?"

"Just admiring your eyes."

"My eyes?"

"Yes, and I think I know what's been getting at you." Jakkrik looked at him with a knowing smile, and continued. "You've had a painful hunger, deep in the pit of your stomach, ever since the knockout round draw was announced. The hunger to win. And you know it won't release until you get out on the field against HopNation. Your mind has been constantly churning 200 mph going through the last two games against them, subconsciously analyzing and strategizing. Resulting in a pretty damn fierce headache after a couple days. But it too won't release until kickoff."

Avery looked at the quarterback in astonishment. He described exactly what he was feeling.

Jakkrik chuckled. "We are both afflicted, my friend. The Curse of Champions, I call it. If you're as much like me as I think you are, you're also probably seething with hatred for HopNation and every other team that will stand in our way.

Avery nodded. He couldn't believe Jakkrik felt the same sickening intensity that he did. Off the field, he always seemed so carefree and more concerned with his blonde mullet than anything else.

"I've just learned to mask it over the years," Jakkrik continued. "It's necessary for enjoying life outside the stadium. But don't ever lose that fire in your gut, that searing hunger to prove yourself the victor at whatever the cost. Even the hatred. It's the secret to all my success in this sport. And you have it too."

In that moment, Avery realized he had found a lifelong mentor and friend. Jakkrik Levinsson, the best quarterback in Cosumar of this decade, adored by the media for his charming sense of humor, was taking him, a rookie runner from a rival team, under his wing. And he had a hidden side.

"You just have to let the hate flow through you," Jakkrik purred in his best Emperor Palpatine impression.

There was the Jakkrik he knew.

It wouldn't be hard to take Jakkrik's advice. Avery had rarely hated an opponent as much as this HopNation team.

On Matchday Two, those damned Malts had shut the Cosumarite offense down. 7-0. Jakkrik was sacked more times than Avery cared to remember. Avery had received only six carries and each one had gone for negative yardage. One HopNation defender in particular, Allen Mathistuck Pepper, decked him really hard twice - and taunted him afterwards. The whole game was humiliating and it stung (both mentally and physically) for longer than a usual loss. The rematch on Matchday 7 was similarly grueling...going to overtime after a physical 14-14 struggle in regulation that saw a skirmish just before halftime. Cosumar would win 20-17, and it was a euphoric triumph at the time, but it was only a partial success. The newfound enemies were now tied 1-1. Cosumar hadn't truly proved they were the better team yet. That's what this knockout game in Hamilton was all about for Avery. Pride. Superiority. Victory. He hungered for them. If only they would just arrive in Hamilton already.....

As the bus trudged closer to the Electrumite city through the wind and rain, Avery and Jakkrik, the Dragons' two Cursed Champions, put their restless heads together and tried to break down from memory every possible chink in the armor of that brutal HopNation defense. Perhaps this unlikely new friendship between the celebrated veteran and the ambitious rookie of two rival CFL franchises could be the X-Factor in what is sure to be another tooth-and-nail game.

Who knows, it might even take them all the way to Burnton for the World Bowl Final...if all of Electrum doesn't flood in the meantime.

I know I'm already eliminated from the World Bowl at this point, but this RP is just laying down the framework of what I hope will be a new series of RPs in other tournaments.

Somer International Airport
Somer, Electrum

Abanhfleft's campaign in the World Bowl XXVI was over. Despite leading their group for more than half the duration of the group stage, three straight losses, including an unprecedented 37-0 blowout at the hands of newcomers Pasneila saw Abanhfleft slip to third, and they were duly eliminated from the tournament because they lost by that many points to Pasneila.

A lot of Fleftic fans had booked tickets for flights back home, all in a state of utter disappointment. A lot of them had already left by the time Cyclone George came and made landfall on Electrum. The country's meteorology department had predicted in all of Electrum's major cities except Prescott, which was supposedly protected from the cyclone by its mountain range.

Somer was already experiencing some pretty stormy conditions, but flights in and out of the city were not yet being cancelled. But most of the planes still on the ground were not taking the risk, and they were getting out as fast as they could.

Air Abanhfleft Flight 5116, a Boeing 767, was one of those planes waiting to fly out of Somer as soon as possible. Since Air Abanhfleft did not serve Somer or any other Electrumite city regularly, these flights were basically operating as charters, and it was up to the pilots to take off when they saw fit. More than 150 Fleftic fans had already booked seats back home on this flight, and they surely got the surprise of their lives when they saw the Fleftic national gridiron team boarding the same plane with them. Naturally, there was a bit of a commotion as people went and tried to get pictures and autographs of their favorite American football stars, before finally both the national team's public relations people and the cabin crew of Flight 5116 worked together to get people back in their seats and let the national team get to their seats in peace.

Meanwhile, up in the cockpit, First Office Victoria Everett was going through the pre-flight checklists when Captain Marvin Drake entered. Both of them were veteran pilots of Air Abanhfleft, and they were also experienced in the 767, with Captain Drake having 10,000 hours of experience on the type and First Officer Everett 7,000 hours.

"Such a shame about our boys in the World Bowl," Marvin said in greeting. "Top of the table for seven games, and then it all came crashing down."

"Honestly, Marv, I never understood what you men saw in other men crashing into each other and passing a ball that's clearly not a ball around," Victoria replied. "That said, though, you're right. It is quite a shame that the country wouldn't be getting another trophy once again."

"The story of our lives, Vicky," Marvin said. "Speaking of guys crashing into other guys and passing around an oval thing, the national team's onboard our flight." He jerked his thumb to the back to press his point.

"Really?" Victoria asked. "Well, isn't that something? All right, then. The pre-flight's complete. Who's gonna fly us outta here?"

"I've already handled the outbound part," Marvin said, "so I guess it's time to give the lady a turn at the wheel." He said this with a grin.

Victoria scoffed and shook her head. "Men," she muttered even as her lips cracked into a grin. She had gotten used to Marvin Drake's way of talking. As she set about preparing to fly the plane, the senior flight steward entered the cockpit and gave Drake the clipboard holding the flight manifest. "We have 200 souls onboard, Captain," he said. "190 passengers and 10 crew."

"Thank you, Alius," Drake said. "Now let's get the passengers ready. We're about to take off."

Once the chief flight steward had left the cockpit, Drake called up the airport's control tower. "Somer Tower, this is Fleftic 5116," he said. "Requesting permission to take off."

"Fleftic 5116, Somer, permission to take off is granted," the air traffic controller replied. "You are cleared as number one to take off on runway 22."

"Copy that, Fleftic 5116 to take off number one on runway 22."

'Fleftic 5116, be advised that the winds are starting to pick up here in Somer," the ATC added. "You could be in for one heck of a take-off."

"Thanks for the advice, Somer," Drake said. "We'll keep ourselves alert and awake." To Victoria, he said, "You heard them, Vicky. We're gonna have a lot of wind ahead of us."

"Don't worry about me, Marv," Victoria replied. "We've taken off in worse conditions."

"True," Marvin conceded.

Victoria put her hand on the engine controls and moved them forward. The two General Electric engines whined as they spooled up and began providing more thrust for the 767, and the plane began to move forward. As soon as their airspeed reached 100 knots, Marvin began calling out their speed in ten-knot increments. When he called out "150 knots," the plane shook a little when it went into the path of a crosswind. "Yee-haa," Marvin muttered. "Ride 'em, cowgirl," he told Victoria.

Victoria gave Marvin a short laugh before turning her attention back to the runway. At 170 knots, Marvin called out, "V-1." Victoria pulled back on the control yoke and said, "Rotate." The 767's nose lifted up, and the sound of the landing gear rolling down the runway began to subside, before finally going away.

"Positive rate of climb," Marvin said, looking at the altimeter as their altitude began to build up. Once again, the plane was rocked by another crosswind, this time coming from their right. Victoria struggled with the controls for a moment before regaining control. "Steady, Vicky," he told her. "Fly the plane; don't let it fly you."

"Don't worry, Marv, I got this," Victoria said in reply. Suddenly, the plane tilted to the left. "What the hell was that!" Victoria yelled out in surprise.

"Microburst!" Marvin called out. "It's a microburst! Keep us flying!"

The two pilots then heard one of the plane's landing gears hit the ground. The wheels and strut held for only a moment before it gave under the weight of an entire aircraft being supported only by it, something it was never designed to do. With the collapse of the landing gear came the rest of the plane. The 767's left wing struck the ground first, and after that the plane dropped out of the sky and began skidding and careening down the rest of the runway. The tremendous amounts of fuel released by the crash caught on fire upon contact with the hot and running engines, setting the wreckage of the plane in flames.

Already the airport's firefighting and rescue vehicles were making their way to the wreckage of what was once Air Abanhfleft Flight 5116. Some survivors were coming out of the wreckage and making their way as far away from the crash as possible, but with the accident having happened just minutes before, it would take some time before the human cost of the tragedy would be known.

San Llera Grind Out Shock Win Over Taeshan!

San Llera have miraculously moved on the the World Bowl XXVI quarterfinals with their 6th consecutive victory, a 31-20 defeat of #2 seed Taeshan on the pouring rain at Port Grenville. San Llera were huge underdogs, being an unranked #15 seed against Taeshan, the 10-0 #2 seed who were ranked 5th at the beginning of the tournament. In fact, news outlets from multiple nations predicted an easy win for Taeshan, with Kaboomlandia predicting a Taeshani victory and Taeshan themselves saying that they "can take care of San Llera" (By the way, the "ll-" in "Llera" is pronounced like a "y-"). However, despite the odds, San Llera won a hard-fought game in the rain behind the running of Normando.

As San Llera coach Xavier Pan had said before the game, rain would be a big factor. It would make it harder to pass the ball, and the game would be controlled by whoever could run better. Luckily for San Llera, their offense is built around the downhill running of Normando. Unluckily for San Llera, their run defense is poor and Taeshan has a triple option scheme that could work very well in the rain. And it did, but only when they can hold on to the ball. The first possession for either team was for Taeshan, and they seemed to set the tone for the game by driving down the field for a touchdown behind short passes by Ryan Yorke and pitches to the two running back on the field at any time, Ashley Forrest and Avery Hewitt. However, Taeshan's next drive saw Forrest drop a handoff in the slippery rain, which was recovered by San Llera. The turnover set up San Llera's first touchdown, which came a few Normando runs later. Taeshan found that turnovers leading into San Lleran offense would become a pattern over the course of the game. Midway through the second quarter, with the game still tied at 7-7, it was Avery Hewitt who dropped a ball, again recovered by San Llera, who settled for a field goal. Taeshan's offense on the next drive also fumbled the ball, but they recovered and eventually Ryan Yorke found Baldwin Everett in the back of the end zone and the teams went to their locker rooms at the half with Taeshan up, 14-10. However, the game swayed dramatically in the third quarter with San Llera scoring before Taeshan could get their hands on the ball. Normando carried the ball on almost every play, but Taeshan couldn't seem to stop it despite knowing what was coming. Normando ran for 68 yards in the 9-minute long drive, culminating in a 4-yard touchdown rush. After yet another Taeshani turnover, San Llera drove again, with fullback Vlad Miric scoring on the last play of the quarter to extend San Llera's lead to 24-14. After 9 minutes of the fourth quarter went by scoreless, it seemed like Taeshan had little chance to come buck, but a 40-yard Ashley Forrest run set up a touchdown with 4 minutes left. Unfortunately for Taeshan, they missed a chance to pull San Llera's lead to 3 when the snap on the PAT was mishandled and Martin Freedman never got a kick away. The fumbled snap, after the game, seemed to be the dagger. San Llera easily picked up a few first downs to shorten the clock and Normando capped off a great day with a 52-yard touchdown run to give San Llera the 31-20 win.

After the game, Xavier Pan answered some questions:
On the performance:
We played great. A lot of people expected them to win easily, but they didn't. People always underestimate San Llera. I know Taeshan did. We came in there and we beat them, fair and square. We were the better team. WE ARE ALWAYS THE BETTER TEAM!!

On the pressure they faced:
I think, when you're a heavy underdog, there is no pressure.

On the quarterfinals:
Our next victim is Timbermunich.

Normando was spectacular, amazingly picking up 277 yards on 38 carries to go with 3 touchdowns. Agusti Basso only threw the ball 9 times, and completed just 3 for 35 yards.

Next up for San Llera is Timbermunich, an offensive juggernaut who was ranked 15th before the tournament. They went 8-2 in group play, earning the #7 seed and beating Kaboomlandia 40-32 in the round of 16.
There are many places, and one such place is Rushmore.
