World Baseball Classic 33 Everything Thread (IC)

Hello, and welcome to the World Baseball Classic 33, hosted by Gregoryisgodistan. This is the IC thread, so please post your rosters and RPs here. Do not make OOC posts in this thread, use the discussion thread. Any purely OOC Posts in the IC thread other than the host making official host announcements or a mod performing their duties will result in a penalty being assessed to the poster's RP Bonus, though this rule is not retroactive and anyone who made an OOC post before this rule was made will not be penalized for it.

Pots and groups are below, as is the schedule. The nations listed in the Groups are the participants and are the only ones permitted to post in this thread, with the exception of moderators performing their modly duties. Anyone else who posts in this thread may be reported for moderator action.

Cutoffs will be between 8:01 PM and 10:01 PM EST (UTC-4) or between 12:01 AM and 2:01 AM UTC the following day. (The reason cutoff is at one minute past the hour is because I don't want cutoff at exactly 12 AM UTC lest we create confusion as to which day it is.) In any event, the days listed are based on my own time zone, add one day if you're UTC or ahead..

Venues:

Pervert Chaser NAUSJW Ballpark
Hosting: Group Stage, One Round of 16 Series, One Quarterfinal, One Semifinal, Final

Image

Pervert Chaser NAUSJW Ballpark, located in District 27, seats 4,000 fans. It is the home of the Gregoryisgodistan National Baseball Team. Beyond the fence is a small patch of woods. Beyond that are some luxury houses, and beyond that is Covello Bay and the District 27 Marina, where the wealthy dock their personal yachts. The marina also has space for foreign ships to dock. It can hold fairly large ships. Ships with capacities up to 50 people should be able to dock there, possibly more if they are small enough. The marina area is off limits to Gregoryisgodistani commoners, who will be executed if they trespass, but foreigners do not need to worry about that provided they have their papers. Teams can either fly into Lord Almighty Gregory National Airport in the Capital District and travel approximately 600 miles by bus or travel by boat, dock at the marina, and rent a bus to drive about a mile to the stadium. (Walking from the marina is also possible.) Teams traveling by boat should inform the Gregoryisgodistani government as soon as possible so that customs can meet them there and space can be made for their boat. Please include the number of people traveling with you.

Slaves R Us Field
Hosting: Group Stage, One Round of 16 Series
Image

Slaves R Us Field is located in District 5, one of the Slave Districts. Sometimes, slaves will play baseball there for the enjoyment of their masters. Slaves are also the groundskeepers and everything else. It seats 3,500 fans. Slaves are all the employees, from groundskeepers to bathroom attendants to concession stand workers.

Strait of Santaguerra Ballpark
Hosting: Group Stage, One Round of 16 Series, One Quarterfinal
Image

Located in District 27 on the Strait of Santaguerra, about 35 miles from Pervert Chaser NAUSJW Ballpark, It seats 5,500. Strait of Santaguerra Ballpark offers beautiful views of the most hotly contested strait in the multiverse. Across the strait is the nation of Iesusisgodistan, one of Gregoryisgodistan’s arch enemies. Just about 1500 feet away from the ballpark is a heavily guarded military installment. Within the military installment are about 50 nuclear missiles and thousands of non-nuclear weapons, ready to be shot across the strait at a moment’s notice in the event of a first strike by the Holy Republican Empire on Gregoryisgodistan. Anyone attempting to enter that area, deliberately or not, will be shot on sight, but fortunately it is well marked so fans will know to keep away. Iesusisgodistan is only about a mile away, and fans have views of the Iesusisgodistani coast and many buildings built alongside it. Fans at this ballpark are encouraged to be as noisy and raucous as possible in the hopes of disturbing Iesusisgodistanis. There will be prizes for the loudest delegation - and good prizes, too. Not crappy ones like gruel or 50 greggygodbucks.

Church of Gregoryisgodistan Stadium

Hosting: Group Stage, One Round of 16 Series, One Quarterfinal, Third Place Series
Image

Church of Gregoryisgodistan Stadium, located in District 12, seats 4,250 fans. It is sponsored by the Church of Gregoryisgodistan. Praises to Lord Almighty Gregory are constantly played over the loudspeaker, including the glorious songs chanted on Creation Day, the day Lord Almighty Gregory created the multiverse, November 5, Year 0000.

Death To Saintland Stadium
Hosting: Group Stage, One Round of 16 Series, One Semifinal
Image

Death To Saintland Stadium, located in District 22 on the shore of the Godly River, seats 4,100 fans. It is named after Gregoryisgodistan’s hatred of Saintland, that wicked heathen land where they worship Eye-ee-zus. Fans will be encouraged to chant anti-Saintland chants.

Hicanan War Memorial Stadium
Hosting: Group Stage, One Round of 16 Series
Image

Located on the campus of the Gregoryisgodistan Air Force Academy in District 18, Hicanan War Memorial Stadium seats 2,700 and is home to the Air Force Academy’s baseball team. It is named to honor the deceased soldiers across all branches who lost their lives battling Hicanans. There is a classroom building overlooking the left field fence, but the windows are bulletproof so there is no chance of them breaking. Incidentally, the bulletproof windows were put in for security long before the baseball stadium was built - they were more concerned about bullets and bombs than baseballs.

Doybert Field
Hosting: Group Stage, One Round of 16 Series
Image

Doybert Field, located in District 30 in the area known as “Greggywood”, is named after the most popular TV character in Gregoryisgodistan, Doybert of Costa Lunians Say The Dardnest Things. It was name that as part of a marketing ploy, as Greggywood is where most movies and TV shows are shot. It seats 2,500 fans.

Death To Llamaland Stadium
Hosting: Group Stage, One Round of 16 Series, One Quarterfinal
Image

Death To Llamaland Stadium, located in District 3, was renamed from District 3 Baseball Field during the war with Super-Llamaland in order to intimidate them and build patriotic fervor. It seats 3,800 fans and is used by various local schools and youth leagues. Fans will be encouraged to be as insulting to Super-Llamaland as possible and start angry chants against them, especially if their national team winds up playing there. It does not refer to Gregory Llama Land. There is a Death to Llama Land Stadium in District 6, in protest of that nation's use of the Holy Name of Lord Almighty Gregory, but it will not be hosting any matches during this tournament. Additionally, the Gregoryisgodistani government does not officially consider Gregory Llama Land to be an Enemy of the Nation, and it is not on the Enemy List. Mainly, this is because they do not consider it worthwhile to provoke a non-interventionist nation that uses heavy military responses to any threats but whose Constitution bans the national military from fighting any offensive or humanitarian war, over such a trifling matter.

Each Group will play all its games at the same stadium as part of a triple-header, with games starting at 12 PM, 4 PM, and 8 PM local time. The first listed game will be played first, then the second, and then the third. Stadium assignments for the group stage will be assigned at the end of the group draw via random selection, except that Group A is automatically at Pervert Chaser NAUSJW Ballpark to allow Gregoryisgodistan to play before the largest possible crowd. Stadium assignments for later rounds will be announced before the start of that round and will be based on sporting and other factors.

Faq:

Do you have any unusual laws?

Sure, lots. The following are all capital crimes:

Murder, theft, treason, piracy, using or possessing birth control, disturbing the peace, leaving the country without permission, attempting to defect, jaywalking, obscene gestures, pointing your finger like a gun, writing a story about how you shot your neighbor's pet dinosaur, dancing with a llama, being awake after national bedtime (after 11 PM and before 6 AM) except in order to comply with other laws, dancing with a camel, bringing a camel to the movie theater, putting a camel in a bathtub, putting a donkey in a bathtub, throwing shoes, wearing socks on your hands, standing on a that leave buttocks or underwear exposed, worshiping any deity other than Gregory, failing to publicly worship Gregory at least 37 times a day, public indecency, ticket scalping, fraud, counterfeit, forgery, failure to have a proper shrine to Gregory in one's house, distracting a shrine inspection agent while he is at your house, failure to give a shrine inspection agent coffee within 5 seconds of his arrival at your house, kidnapping, arson, assault, smoking, drinking alcohol, drinking orange juice, drinking pear juice, eating oranges, prostitution (for both the prostitute and client), doing jumping jacks, saying the word "coconut", reading a book that is not on the approved books list, thinking about reading a book that is not on the approved books list, thinking about thinking about reading a book that is not on the approved list, questioning the state or Gregory, thinking about questioning the state or Gregory, thinking about thinking about questioning the state or Gregory, carrying a fish above your head, thinking critical thoughts about Gregory or the state, thinking about thinking critical thoughts about the state or Gregory, burping, eating any food other than government-issued gruel rations, drinking any beverage other than government-issued prune juice rations, having dreams which are critical of Gregory or the state, attempting to figure out which technology the government uses to prove many of the above crimes, hypothesizing that the government does not actually possess the technology and merely accuses people because everyone commits some of these crimes sometimes, asking what you are being charged with upon arrest, talking in your sleep, refusing to accept one's guilt and execution sentence, refusal to accept one's guilt for a crime not punishable by execution, talking during one's trial for a non-capital crime, professing one's innocence of a non-capital crime, owning a car, owning a bike, being bald or having a shaven head, having sexual relations with any partner not authorized by the state, imitating a sheep, calling people "SHEEPLE", failure to bow down to Gregory or his image (such as on a television screen or a statue) immediately upon seeing it, talking to police officers during arrest, trial, prosecution, or any other point, thinking about what you might say to police if you could talk, thinking about thinking about what you might say if you could talk, failure to fly the national flag outside your house, failure to sing the national anthem every hour on the hour, including while asleep (though many citizens set their alarm clocks for 5 minutes to the hour then go back to sleep after singing the anthem) attempting to disable any spy cameras anywhere, including in one's own home, attempting to determine the location of spy cameras, determining the location of spy cameras (even accidentally), talking about the secret police, thinking about the secret police, thinking about thinking about the secret police, thinking about thinking about thinking about the secret police, killing a puppy, killing a kitten, having writing material critical of Lord Almighty Gregory or the state, sneezing, coughing, showering, bathing, blasphemy, looking in sewers, littering, hacking, trespassing, riding ugly horses, rape, attempting suicide, flying a kite, whining, complaining, looking at goats, talking to animals, nosepicking, spitting, mooning, digging in gardens, walking on grass, swimming, cutting something with scissors, wearing a watch, making bad jokes, imitating animals, threatening anyone, possession of pornography, child molestation, kicking a duck, kicking a cow, cow tipping, kicking a chicken, stepping in dog poop, stepping in cow poop, snoring, snorting, grunting, groaning, pouting, moaning, scratching your head, scratching your nose, scratching your butt, singing or playing some, but not all, of the national anthem (except at the end of Creation Day when only the first two verses and the last verse are sung), eating on Creation Day, speaking any language other than English, masturbating, prank calling, singing the incorrect words to the national anthem, electronically transmitting nude or semi-nude pictures, being in public without a shirt (except at beaches and swimming pools), wearing high heels, making a false bomb threat, pulling the fire alarm when there is no fire, possessing spray paint, drinking on Creation Day, going to the bathroom on Creation Day, failure to pronounce Lord Almighty Gregory's name correctly, thinking about committing a capital crime, thinking about thinking about committing a capital crime, thinking about thinking about thinking about committing a capital crime, and hiccuping.

Additionally, humiliating the nation is punishable by execution but not in the usual matter. You are sliced up into little pieces while still alive, covered in pancake batter and coconut, deep fried, and fed to Lord Almighty Gregory as a forgiveness offering.

Finally, speculating publicly or privately, either verbally or written, that Lord Almighty Gregory is not a deity is punishable by execution of you, everyone you know, everyone they know, everyone you tell your doubts to, everyone they know, everyone those people know, everyone who lives within a 50 mile radius of where you live, everyone who was within a 50 mile radius of you when you expressed those doubts, everyone who lives within a 50 mile radius of the people you told your doubts to, and everyone who was within 50 miles of them when you told them.

If you think about thinking about thinking that Gregory might not be a deity, we execute you in the usual matter. If you think about thinking about it, we execute you and everyone you know. If you think about it, we execute everyone you know and everyone they know.

But of course, actually saying or writing this theory is far worse punishment.

Additionally, using bad grammar is punishable by 28 days in a Grammar Reeducation Camp for a first offense, and longer terms for repeat offenders. There are similar camps for spelling, mathematics, and vocabulary.

Oh my God, will we have to follow all those laws?

Similar to previous tournaments Gregoryisgodistan has hosted, all participants and fans at the World Baseball Classic will be issued special papers certifying that they are there for that purpose. As long as they have those papers on them at all times, they will not be subject to the more extreme laws of the nation, such as the death penalty for saying "coconut" or farting. However, if they do not have said papers, they will be subject to all the laws. In any case, they will still be subject to the laws against murder, assault etc. which are punishable by death. This allows participants a chance to avoid having to RP being subject to the extreme laws if they don't want to, while still having a chance to RP it if they wish.

Is Lord Almighty Gregory really God?

Do you really want to question that while in Gregoryisgodistan?

Stadium:

Due to the destruction of Lord Almighty Gregory Baseball Stadium by Wolfopian terrorists (OOC: actually a Gregoryisgodistani false flag), all home games will be played at Pervert Chaser NAUSJW Ballpark, formerly known as Covello Field, located in District 27, about half a mile from Covello Bay. It was renamed prior to the IBS to honor former pitching coach and pitcher Pervert Chaser NAUSJW who was arrested in New Wolfopolis during the World Baseball Classic for performing his job, castrating and dickapitating Mount Tamobet players competing in the nude. He is currently in Wolfopian prison. The arrest of Pervert Chaser NAUSJW led to Gregoryisgodistan adding New Wolfopolis to the Enemy List, which according to the Gregoryisgodistani government was the impetus for the terrorist attack.

Pervert Chaser NAUSJW Ballpark seats 4,000 fans.

RP:

Choose my Lineup No - follow what was posted.
Choose my Runscorers Yes
RP Injuries Yes, one per game.
Godmod Injuries Yes, but note the above restriction.
Follow my Rotation: Yes
Eject my players: Yes, one per game unless you eject a commensurate number of yours. For instance, you can eject three of my players if you eject two of yours. This includes coaches, who can be ejected but count towards the limit. An exception is that you can eject both my manager and my pitcher for throwing at a batter after a warning (as the rules say should happen) and this counts as one ejection.
Godmod other events: Yes, do anything except kill Lord Almighty Gregory, our head of state and official deity. Failed assassinations and fake assassinations using prop heads are fine. However, expect reciprocation. If you kill one of my players, that's fine, but I'm going to kill one of yours. If you don't TG me first to ask which one I'd be ok with killing, I won't TG you first, I'll just kill one, though if you kill a bench player I would kill one of your bench players, not a starter. I will do this WITHOUT CHECKING YOUR RP PERMISSIONS because it is far too complicated to figure out whether we'd both be in violation of each other's RP permissions or whether you made an exception, meaning we're both fine.
Other: If you do an RP involving my country, but do not mention it by name ("Gregoryisgodistan" without any formatting in the middle of the word such as striking "isgod" to make Gregoryisgodistan) TG me to give me a heads up. You do not need to wait for permission, and there is a chance I won't bother to reply. I frequently search for mentions of my nation so I can reply to RP's, but if you don't mention it by name, I can't do that. If for whatever IC reason you refer to my country by some other name (Gregoryisgodistan, Gregoryistan, Gregoryisnotgodistan, "that country with a name so blasphemous I cannot speak it" etc.) that is fine but either mention my country by name in an OOC note or TG me.
Use DH at home: Yes. But we're using official MLB rules, not international rules, so if you have a starting pitcher who is a good hitter, you may bat him instead of a DH, but then you lose your right to a DH for the remainder of the game even if you go to the bullpen. It also means if you move your DH to the field, you have you bat the pitcher for the remainder of the game. Normally, he would bat in the spot of the player who was replaced, but you could always do a double switch. He has to bat somewhere though.

Choose my Lineup: Use the players I posted, but by all means swap in guys from the bench
Choose my Runscorers: Yes
RP Injuries: Yes, nothing career-ending
Godmod Injuries: Yes, but note the above restriction.
Follow my Rotation: I still don't know what this means, so yeah
Eject my players: Up to two per game
Godmod other events: Nothing really serious, and I'd appreciate a TG first
Use DH at home: Sure, why not

Well, here we are again with another edition of the World Baseball Classic, and I've got to say Jim, it looks like it could be a good year for the Sidrats.
Yes, that's right Matt, the Sidrats are looking like a strong team this year, but they'll have to put up with some stiff competition from the rest of the field if they want to have any chance of winning this thing.
Well Jim, we can't say how far they'll get, but we do know that they'll certainly try their best! And you can see all the matches live over on our sister channel, NBC Sports 2, but here on NBC Central we'll be giving you the highlights every day following the matches the previous night.
Yes, the matches are being played in Gregoryisgodistan, a country known for it's impressive baseball team and incredibly punitive laws, but don't worry folks, the Gregoryisgodistani government is giving out papers to all international citizens travelling for the WBC, so if you've got your papers on you and it's legal here in Neyosil, you'll be just fine. Gregoryisgodistan is running five hours behind Neyosil, so most matches will be taking place very early in the morning over here, but we'll be bringing you all the highlights at a much more sensible time of day.
So, Jim, let's take a look at this year's roster, and I have to say, they're all looking pretty good. There's been no change in team since IBS VIII, which, let's be honest, we didn't do so well in, but events both here in Neyosil and over in that parallel universe often referred to as "Reality" are looking better, so this should be a much better tournament for the Sidrats.

Well, Matt, let's hope that this time around we can do better than we did in IBS VIII.
That's right, Jim, we want to do the absolute best we can do in this tournament!
Not that it makes much difference, I mean we're all just lines of code, right?
Woah, Jim, let's not break the fourth wall this early in the tournament!!

RP Permissions
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Runscorers: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes
Choose my Lineup: No - Follow the posted lineup
Choose my Pitching Rotation: No - Follow the posted rotation, TG me if you’re not sure who will face you
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes - Limited to minor injuries only
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Yes - See the above restrictions
Eject my Players: No
Godmod Other Events: Yes - Nothing too extreme, please TG me prior to using poor weather
Designated Hitter at Home: No
Other Notes: For information on the Equestrian States, please refer to the WBC 25 Visitors’ Guide first, then TG me if you have any further questions. Additionally, if you wish to do something that is either not listed as allowed in my RP permissions or really out of the ordinary, I require that you ask me (via TG) at least two hours prior to RP cutoff so my own post can account for the unusual event. Failure to send a TG in time will likely result in your request being turned down as I will probably have already begun work on my own RP.

ROLESPEEL MACHTIGINGEN | RP PERMISSIONS
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Runscorers: YES - check the roster at the end of each RP. (e.g. If we play in a DH situation, the pitcher obviously cannot score.)
Godmod Scoring Events: YES
Choose my Lineup: NO - check the roster at the end of each RP.
Choose my Pitching Rotation: NO - I will select the pitcher rotation. (Also see below.***) TG me if you’re not sure who will face you.
RP Injuries to my Players: YES - however, ***you may not injure a pitcher in any way or cause a major injury to any other player unless you TG me first! (Usually I will accept injury offers, but let me know first!)
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Yes - See above.
Eject my Players: YES - you may eject up to one (1) player (including a pitcher) and one (1) staff member per game. If you TG me first, you may eject one (1) additional player, unless s/he is pitching that game. (Especially if s/he is relief for an ejected pitcher!) If you RP a bench-clearing fight, TG me so that we can work out who the RSY manager will recall to the bench (substitution players only).
Godmod Other Events: YES - except TG me for extremes such as extreme weather, curfew, light failure, or killing players. No staff may be killed. Only one (1) player may be killed for the duration of the tournament.

AANGEWESE HITTER RËEL | DESIGNATED HITTER RULE
When we are the home team, we play using the MLB DH rule, as does Gregoryisgodistan.
(a) You may designate one (1) player to be all-time hitter. (position 0)
(b) You may elect to have the pitcher bat, but you forfeit the right to have a DH for that game.
(c) You may send the DH to the field, but (1) the pitcher must then bat, and (2) you may not select another DH for the game.
IMPORTANT! When South Yerfilag is the home team, the DH must be the first substitution to the field - no other player may substitute for another fielder until the DH, where designated, enters the game as a fielder. This rule will not apply for this WBC.

Godmod scoring events: I want to do my own runs but you can do your own. I'll follow the linescores if I post first, you don't have to if you don't want to, just don't choose how my runs are scored or who scores them. You can godmod anything else, like a fight, fielding errors by my players, and so forth. Feel free to use fantastic/future tech elements if that's what your thing is, but I'll probably just ignore it in my own RP.

Royal Johnstone National Baseball Team

Manager- Winston Field

Profile- The great manager of the champion Royal Saint John's domestic baseball team, Field hopes to use the team's speed to pile up runs one at a time. The players early in the lineup will virtually always have the "green light" to steal. With that, good pitching performances, and timely home runs from Schembechler, Bristol, and maybe Nottingham, the Royal Johnstone team will hopefully advance in the tournament in their first year.

Line-up (*the pitcher will obviously hit last in the absence of a DH, with all positions under 4 getting bumped up one spot)

1. CF James Von Trapp

Player profile- Von Trapp is a skilled defensive player with great range, known for acrobatic catches. He is goon on the bases; scoring runs and stealing many bases. He has some power. He is a middling hitter for average, but has a high OBP

2. LF William Blanding

Player profile- Blanding is another great baserunner, and a solid outfielder. He is an average hitter, without much power, but is a skilled bunter.

3. 1b Richard Randolph

Player profile- One of Royal Johnstone's great strengths on offense is its team speed, and Randolph continues that trend. He is an average hitter, but may struggle against international competition, and can be clumsy in the infield despite his blazing running ability.

4. C Edmund Schembechler

Player Profile- Schembechler is the best player in the lineup. He is the teams only true home run hitter, while also being the fastest player on the team, enabling him to get many extra base hits. He is also a talented defensive catcher, doing a good job running games for pitchers. He is a middling hitter for average, but draws a high number of walks, making him the team leader in OBP. He occasionally hits lead off, but mostly hits clean-up in the fourth spot due to his power hitting.

5. DH Percy Nottingham

Player Profile- Nottingham is not in good physical shape, and thus plays the DH position and is slow on the basepaths. He is a good hitter for average and is also an intelligent batter who draws many walks. He has some power and regularly hits doubles by hitting deep line drives. He is also a precise situational hitter who is adept at things like hitting sac flies, hitting to a certain part of the field to avoid a defensive shift, double play opportunity, or to allow a baserunner to advance, and is a good contact hitter in general

6. 3b Ralph Aldington

Player profile- Aldington is a sure handed infielder and is good for slapping a single every game, but his offensive skills will likely not go beyond that in international play

7. 2b Addison Hathaway

Player profile- Similar to his counterpart at third base, he fields his position well and is a light hitting but consistent offensive player.

8. RF- Stanford Bristol

Player Profile- A controversial addition to the team, Bristol is well known in the domestic league for his many hits under pressure for the legendary "Royal Saint John's" domestic team, and also for his relationship with a noted Royal model. However, it has been suggested that his overall play is not up to the level of international competition. He is not a good defensive player, and does not do much on offense other than hit some home runs

9. SS- James Galloway

Player profile- Galloway is a good defensive shortstop, but not much of a hitter. However, he is very fast and can theoretically lead into the speedy first part of the lineup if he gets on base

Starting Pitching Rotation-

1. Akira Fujimoto-

Player profile- Fujimoto is a Japanese pitcher who signed with Royal Saint John's, and recently became a citizen, thus making him eligible for the national team. He is the best pitcher in the domestic league, throwing a fastball in the high 90;s, with great command, but occasionally giving up big hits

2. Stanley Bergman

Player Profile- Bergman is aging, but was once the best pitcher in the domestic league. He has a wide variety of pitches and great command. However, he becomes more vulnerable the further he advances into a game

3. Daniel Abbot

Player Profile- Abbot is known for his deceptive breaking balls, and often pitches very deep into games. He gives up some "cheap" runs with singles and walks, but not big hits and has a consistently moderate ERA

4. Marcus Abbey

Player Profile- Like Abbot, Abbey is a deceptive pitcher who does not give up big hits. However, he walks men more often and has had some control issues, thus his lower spot in the rotation

5. Ellis Bloxham

Player Profile- Bloxham is the prized pitching prospect of Royal Johnstone, and his spot on the team is mostly honorary. He will likely only have to pitch once. He throws hard but has not entirely harnassed his skills yet

Closer-

Mason Blythe

Player profile- Bylthe has a great fastball, and is also adept at "gimmick" pitches that only work in small doses. He is regarded as one of the teams great assets and very rarely gives up runs.

Utility players, the backup catcher, and the rest of the bullpen are not included in this press release but may be added later.

Trigram- RJS

Uniforms- The caps are heather grey with a Block J. Home uniforms are white with red pinstripes. Away uniforms have cream colored shirts with white pants.

[001] Warming Up...

Postby South Yerfilag » Tue Apr 28, 2015 10:26 pm

[>=]

"Your region, your network. This is the English language service of the Yerfilag News Network."

"Good afternoon. This is Richard Mobutu reporting with your top stories for today.

"The nations of Emphfir and Dormain have parted ways from the Grand Alliance of Yerfilag. Contact with Yerfilag First Prime 019764919298374823 of Aramof resulted in a response that, roughly translated, means that the Yerfilag Regional Congress delegates "have no idea what happened" regarding their departure. This leaves the ever-shrinking alliance with only five nations and one member of the World Assembly. More to follow on that story at the bottom of the hour.

"In national news, an increase in road rage-related accidents is shocking the nation. The most recent attack receiving national attention was the attack at the corner of National Route 39 and Cherry St. in Wittenburg (formerly called Riceucynsetl). Whether or not the attack was an act of racial discrimination is still to be determined by local police. Neither the names of the suspect nor the victim were released, but sources have confirmed the latter is in stable condition at Wittenburg University Hospital.

"In sport, the South Yerfilag national team has been selected from among the greatest of former Scantorian and Cincysian players. While the roster has yet to be released to the public, the South Yerfilag Board of Sport and Athletics (SYBSA) has confirmed that acceptance packets have been sent to the players. ..."

"I'M IN! I'M IN! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!"
Jacinda van Heel, an average-sized brunette with a fairly athletic build and a glowing smile, squealed with delight as the manila envelope marked "SYBSA Accepted" shone inside her university post office box. She turned to see a bunch of juniors and seniors staring at her, as if she had gone crazy.
"Sorry," she blubbered sheepishly. She shut her box and left the post office, blushing a little. Her comfort lay in the fact that although most of the people she had just seen had no idea who she was on this campus of 78,000 students, they would know soon enough.
"Hey, Jaci!" It was Jacinda's best friend, Kylee Botha. The girls had been inseparable since they had met in high school. They'd played softball together; Jacinda was the star pitcher, and Kylee the second basewoman. They had even dated two guy best friends; although Jacinda had broken up with her boyfriend before college, Kylee had chosen to stay with hers. In fact, they had gotten engaged, and Jacinda was to be the maid of honor at Kylee's wedding.
"Hey, what's up?" Jacinda asked.
"Oh, nothing much," Kylee answered. "Not counting the wedding coming up, of course! Raoul and I are so excited to be married to each other!"
"Yeah, that's... great." Ever since the fateful day when Jacinda ran away from Raoul's brother when he tried to get her drunk, things were not going her way, relationship-wise. However, due to her involvement on the college softball team, she had attracted a bit of male attention. ... Actually, a lot of male attention. In fact, she had already turned down three guys for dates. However, she was able to fend off the wary eye by spending time in the computer sciences lab, where she was majoring.
"Why so down?" Kylee detected the dejectedness in her friend's voice.
Jacinda shook her head. The brightness returned to her face. Maybe someday, when I can actually trust her to have a legitimate conversation about that night...
"I have something to show you!" Jacinda opened the envelope.
"NO WAY!" Kylee squealed. She hugged Jacinda tightly. "You got on the national team! I'm so proud of you!"
"Thanks. Don't count on me getting much playing time though. I am quite young and fairly inexperienced."
"Oh nonsense. You'll do just fine out there!" Kylee was not about to let her friend be dissuaded. "Hey, wanna head to the food court to celebrate?"
"I'll race you!" Jacinda took off in the direction of the university food court, having no idea that her playing time would be much more than expected.
"Hey, no fair!" Kylee gasped for air as she tried to keep up.

Yeah, what do you want?
Oh! I thought you were just another one of those incessantly annoying people who don't like the fact that I live on their street. I'm mighty sorry about that.
My name is Lawrence Olugbenga. I'm 28 years old, and I live in Park Suid in the capital city of Taylorsburg. Most people never thought I would be as successful as I am today, let alone live in this most prestigious neighborhood.
I was born in a slum to an uneducated set of parents. When I was three, my father left the family. My mother worked three jobs just to make ends meet for all of us. When I was about 14, a gang gunned down my mother and my oldest sister was raped. She - my oldest sister - and I moved into a project development center not long after, called Village of Hope. I never did know what happened to my other sister or my brother - they all but disappeared when we moved away.
My oldest sister kept the baby from her pregnancy, at the suggestion of the workers at the Village of Hope. Today, he is a happy, vibrant fourteen-year-old. A bright young man, too. He wants to study business management.
We learned many basic trades while attending the local school. It was at school that I developed a passion for baseball. I was a proven batter, and also a good catcher. I hit an average of .457 during my four years of high-school baseball, leading my school's team to the National U-19 Championship in 2003 - my senior year of high school. That's when Southern Damukuni University offered me a free ride to play catcher for their college baseball team.
At SDU, the players weren't very good - cricket is their main bat-and-ball sport - but I formed many great friendships there. I studied math and physics as a double-major while playing. I graduated with a 3.7 and received a teaching certification for sciences. My normal job is teaching physics at the Werth Avenue Middle School here in Taylorsburg. Now that I've been accepted onto the RSY national team, I guess that job will have to take a back burner...

Relevant excerpt from the Constitution:

Saugeais wrote:
WBC Constitution, December 2013
(previously amended April 2012)

Article VI: Tournament Sportsmanship

Section 1: No team may voluntarily forfeit games or entire series after a World Baseball Classic has started.

Section 2: Only nations that have ceased to exist during the playoffs of the World Baseball Classic before being eliminated are deemed as forfeiting.

Section 3: Nations that cease to exist during a group stage or equivalent of the World Baseball Classic shall be prohibited from advancing beyond that stage, but must play out the remainder of their schedule in that stage. Nations that are subsequently re-founded prior to the end of the stage may advance beyond that stage.

I am interpreting the start of a World Baseball Classic to be the posting of the everything thread. Accordingly, I am not accepting Slikjd's withdrawal. If they want to come up with some IC reason why the main team withdrew and send someone else instead (like Saintland sending Feministvs Sanctvsterra to World Cup 68 after the main team "withdrew") that is fine with me.

Edit: Fixed outdated part of the Constitution - seriously, can someone update that thread? The relevant part is still the same - no voluntary forfeiting of games. But what happens if a nation CTEs is different.

ABANHFLEFT REVOLUTION
Abanhfleft men's national baseball team

Everyone seems to have gained a little more hope for the Fleftic national baseball team after they salvaged third place in the 8th International Baseball Slam in Gregoryisgodistan. Now the team is back in Gregoryisgodistan, this time for the 33rd World Baseball Classic. Everyone is hoping for a more properly run tournament this time around, which is certainly what they're going to get if Gregory's management of IBS 8 is any indication. The team remains mostly the same from the one that first stepped into the international baseball scene, but the management has been totally shaken up. Former subsitute shortstop Rehoboam Zimmermann had announced his retirement from international baseball after the defeat of Abanhfleft against Gregoryisgodistan in IBS VII, and he is now the new national team manager, replacing longtime national manager Quentin Keppler.

Name of nation: Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft
Demonym: Fleftic
Team name: Abanhfleft Revolution
Nickname: Revolutionaries (common), Revolters (derogatory)
Official history: This will be Abanhfleft's third time participating in the International Baseball Slam.
Team colors: Blue, orange, and green
Style modifier: +2. Abanhfleft has returned to the more conservative attacking style favored by the Keppler-era team.

The entire coaching staff of the Abanhfleft Revolution had been sacked by the Abanhfleft Baseball Federation following the team's failure to qualify in IBS VII. Rehoboam Zimmermann, longtime member of the national team, had been tapped as the new manager following his retirement from international baseball, and he had been given free reign to recruit any other staff member that he believed capable of bringing back some glory to this now-mocked national side. This is also an opportunity for Zimmermann to steal some thunder from the football players that had considerably stolen a lot of baseball's thunder in the Democratic Republic.

MANAGER - REHOBOAM ZIMMERMANN

ASSISTANT MANAGER/BENCH COACH - JAIME GROVER

FIRST BASE COACH - STEFAN MCKENNY

THIRD BASE COACH - KURTIS LINGENFELTER

BATTING COACH - ELLIOTT WETTMORE

PITCHING COACH - AUSTIN BROCKWAY

The Abanhfleft Baseball Federation has announced that it will be using two baseball stadia as venues for the Abanhfleft Revolution's home matches.

Kaboomlandia in Possible "Group of Death"

The group draw has been completed. Though it went smoothly save for an execution midway through the event, Kaboomlandia didn't come out of it very well. They share a group with three ranked teams: Cosumar and Ko-oren, the 7th and 17th highest-ranked teams in the world respectively, and United Russian Soviet States, the 100th ranked team. Kaboomlandia will open May 3rd against Ko-oren at Doybert Field, the smallest of the competitive stadiums.
In=character, Kaboomlandia is a World Assembly member and abides by its resolutions. If this nation isn't in the WA, it's for practical reasons.
