Swennic Endurance Auto Racing Championship (Closed|MT|)

Postby Southwest Eastnorth » Tue Apr 14, 2015 10:11 pm

OOC: this is more or less a test for my own benefit to see if I can successfully run an endurance style series before I go jump in and run an open one. Also I am completely open to critiques.

SWENNIC ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP Pres by New Hart Autoparts

Now entering its 15th season, Massimilano Copp's Swennic Endurance Championship is a bright spot in an already car crazy nation. Copp's vision was to make a a series that tested a car to its limits and also test a nice variety of automobiles. The 15th season of the SEARC may provide to be the best. With large entry lists for most races flowing in, Copp has high hopes. Unfortunately the off season got off to a bit off a rocky start as the brother team of Dean and Johnathan Winslowe were arrested a mere week after the season as it was found that their team was a front for drug smuggling operations in the Lanier area. The brothers had finished 4th in Prototypes with a fleet of Porsche 965s, most of which are likely headed to a police auction soon. On a more positive note, factory participation is up in the SEARC. Along side Mazda's dominating 792B that will be making a return, Toyota is entering with All Swennic Racers and their Eagle MKIII Chassis. The GT boys are finally getting some love too as Bentley, Nissan and Mercedes are adding GTS factory support while GTE will have a factory Jaguar with the already heavily funded Dale McQuistern team.As for the RGT category, it looks like another BMW bash unless the IMCO Camaros have finally learned how to keep it on the track.

Round one will take place in the heat of the inland desert at the new Daughtry Springs Circuit and Casino in Daughtry Springs.

ROUND:1 - The Daughtry Springs Casino Inland Grand Prix presented by by Midlothian Petrolube

SRP Audi pulls of big win in the desert!

Last year in the ten races contested in the Swennic Endurance Championship, the Mazda of Price Halsmer and Pete Cobb won seven. They lost three times last year. Two were due to mechanical woes biting them. but that third loss? That was the race around Joestville Stadium where the Southern Printing Supply Audi's beat the Mazda toe to toe. Well, the Mazda is now 0-1. A bizzare finish to the SEARC opener saw both leaders spin on the last lap. While most sports live by the motto "Game of Inches", endurance racing is not one of the sports that does. But this race proved otherwise. aAfter 99 laps it came down to the two dominant cars from last year. Price Halsmer in the Mazda, and Leo Rourke in the Audi when they came to turn twelve Rourke was leading when Halsmer took a dive at him, and unfortunately locked up the breaks. This put both cars into a spin and Halsmer parked flush on the track. Halsmer quickly gunned the car trying to get back on track, but did so right infront of the 350Z of Insurance CEO Greg Lund, damaging the Mazda significantly. Rourke got his car back into the race and beat surprise second place finisher Kory Pitcairn by a still whopping sixty-five seconds. Kory and teammate Julian Douglass must have been pleased as normally the pair only enter there home race around Sultan Lake, but they decided to enter here as it is reasonably close for there small operation. The SRP class cars of the Ultenberg Riley & Scott and the YVO Racing Oreca rounded out the top-5 with a fine 6th going to the newcomers in the Eagle - Toyota.

Both GTS and GTE class races turned into wars of attrition as many of the big names in GT were thrown to the wayside by the imminent overheating issues and surprisingly by small rocks which found there way on to the edge of the track and ruined several teams suspensions. The Yates McClure BMW and the #4 Marv Hinkler Bentley were most affected by this as there days were done pretty early due to rocks braking either suspensions or radiators. But the big benefactor in the war was Johan Luck, the Viper racer from west of Lanier. Luck who finished third in the championship last year won his class by a good ten seconds over second place Bentley drivers Corey Brickk and Miles Gregg. Third was the Mercades of Venezzi and Hunt. GTE was again dominated by the Jaguar XJ220 of Troyer and Julian with the only other car in class finishing being the #34 Ginetta. In GTR the IMCO Camaros finally pulled out the win they were looking for and swept the top two spots on the podium in the process. Dobin Ottenger and Marvin Henry, two stock car drivers by trade, beat out their teammates with a smooth well run race and were left fairly uncontested by last years dominant BMWs Both of the BMWs ran into problems as the #93 was caught up in a wreck with the Interpid Prototype, and the #83 had to change a battery late which lost him a lot of time. Finishing third was a surprise by the normally underwhelming Grundheim, Garde Saab. IGT was dominated by the old ZR-1 Corvette of Debrasseo and Green.

Next race is going to take place at the semi-permanent Sultan Lake Internationa Race Circut, a thousand kilo endurance race at the thirteen Kilometer track.

ROUND:2 - The The Grand Prix of Sultan Lake

TRACK MAP
Image

INFO
LENGTH: 13.625km
LAPS: 73
TRACK RECORD: 3:20:633 (Price Halsmer Mazda 792B)

Round two takes places at the immense 8 mile, 13 kilometer circuit around Sultan lake in the great inland desert. Another dry, hot track, the Sultan Lake track is a true test as the 1000k will take place in the immense humidity of Sultan Lake. The Mazda team is looking for redemption after the gaffaw that sent them from almost first to almost a lap down. They should be strong as they have a car along with Toyota and the two Audi's. The Ferrari of the Tassinni brothers showed some speed too. This should also be a good test for the GT Cars, as this is the first real test for the cars.

Redemption for Price Cobb and Pete Halsmer has come. The pair put the gaffe that cost them at Daughtry Springs and won the Sultan Lake Grand Prix. A one minute victory over the #7 Audi helped bring morale back to a team that had a very stinging loss. Cobb and Halsmer didn't start up front, the qualified third behind the two Audi's, but they did make it up front by only lap 7 and led all the way from there. GTS found the newcomer Bentley of Miles Gregg and Corey Brickk not only win, but dominate to the point they beat all but one of the prototypes. The fifth overall is the best finish by a GT car since the 2010 Sultan Lake GP. The Tassinni Brothers did well finishing in the 4th spot for their best run in six races. GTE saw the Ginetta of Nigel Cook and Craven Rottenger win after late problems with he #55 Jag surfaced. This is the first win for a non-Jaguar since 2013. GTR saw a war of attrition as the BMW of Norton and Hoyer winning while being the only car in class to finish on the the lead lap. Following the BMW was the Tyner and Moore and the #57 IMCO Camaro of Henry and Ottenger finished third in class. This race also produced the first full course yellow as on lap 15 Rocky Elliot spun and hit the wall spewing debris everywhere and causing terminal damage to the #01 of Zettinger who gained it after running over the debris.
