With you (Saintland/FFR) also planning to bid for the IBC 17, what are your plans with regards to schedule, will you run the two tournaments simultaneously or one before the other?

ICly, what's the deal with having best-of-7 series for all playoff series? Seems like an awful lot of games to play. Even MLB doesn't require seven game series until the semifinals and finals. And that's a club competition, so they have all of their players available. Internationally, requiring teams to play 30-40 games in the group stage and then potentially 20-30 more in the playoffs would be a huge strain on domestic scheduling or a lot of wear and tear during the offseason, depending on when it was scheduled.

ICly, the justification is that the length of other tournaments tend to be more close to the length of a regular club season in those sports (for example, the World Bowl champion typically plays around 14 games, WCC teams that make the finals or CoH typically play 20-some competitive matches per cycle, etc.), so it isn't really that excessive to do that for the WBC and there are plenty of people who think MLB should expand the division series to 7 games.

ICly, I'm still not sure I buy it, especially the last sentence. What I've heard is that people complain about the length of the season anyway, about how an ostensibly summer sport lasts until nearly November and playoff games are played in frigid temperatures. I doubt we'll be seeing an extra two games tacked on to the division series anytime soon. The MLB season is 162 games + playoffs and players need the rest that the offseason provides. Most domestic seasons that people have posted are less than 162, but they're not far off, and I can't see the justification for having players play an extra 40 games in their offseason or have to play havoc with domestic scheduling to fit them in during the season. Heck, the World Baseball Classic IRL is like 15 games tops, and people still complain about how it places an unnecessary stress on players.

Additionally, WCQ usually takes places over a period of a year or more and football matches are played infrequently enough that it's possible for both international and domestic competitions to take place at the same time. I don't see that same type of scheduling in baseball (admittedly, I have no idea about World Bowl scheduling, but I imagine it would be difficult to play essentially another season of such a physically taxing sport in the same year, or even two years). The WCoH and IBS don't approximate a full domestic season either, so I fail to see why baseball should be brought in line with the competitions that do as opposed to the ones that don't.
