Welcome to Star United States
for the
March Triathlon Open Tournament

The Utopian Republic of Star United States, the land of diversity, is located in the region of Esportiva. With an unknown founding date, the country was created with the joining of five former sovereign states, which are now known as the Estrall, Herbeid, Piaxse, Opangue, and Starix Districts. From the tropical rain forests with exotic animals to the forgotten streets of the country, there is always something interesting to find, be it the culture or language. English, Spanish, and Portuguese are common throughout the country. Almost everyone in Star United States is a fan of at least one sport. The country's capital is known at the City of Star.

The Starian territory also extends to seven beautiful, yet distinct islands, which are known as Alegria, Ilha do Sur, Ilha Central, Paz, Ilha Recife, Sorriso, and Ilha do Norte. Portuguese is the most dominant language on the islands.the land of diversity located in the region of Esportiva. HopNation March Open

HopNation decided to send a few other participants to the March Open to see how some of our top triathletes would fair compared to the normal three that we've seen competing internationally for some time now. So far it has been a mixed bag when it comes to how they have performed. We've had a top finisher with the third fastest time out of everyone as well as having a bottom dweller in the mix with the twentieth place time. Everyone will need to do much better if they want to be in the final and claim some sort of glory from international competition. We are hopeful that they will but only time will tell if they have what it takes to make it.

One surprise for me was the finishing position of Jörg, he didn't look good at all out there and he is claimed to be one of our best. Right now he is outside of making it into the final run too. I would like to know what is usual teammates would think of his performance out there, but that will have to wait especially since they are not here to ask right now. Looking at the event overall there were some good performances out there too, some fresh faces and teams doing there best to get some exposure before the next big event I suppose.

Here's to fast times and advancement, go HopNation!

HopNation March Open

Well I wasn't so sure we would be sending more than one triathlete through to the finals, but we actually managed to send all five through. We looked very good in this second event and showed why we have some of the best triathletes around. I think we are going to have some troubles in the final through because we will be facing some extremely tough competition. There are three individuals from Sacheyenya, then one from Star United States, and one from Fratton. If you remember Fratton had some very good showings at last months Tri-Hop II, so they will be very tough. Then we know that Oliver King will be tough because SUS puts nothing but their best out there. I'm not to sure what to expect from the Sacheyenya triathlete Gareth Thomas, although he did make the final of the Ironman Series of that same Tri-Hop II that the Fratton triathletes did so well at. So like I said it will be some good competition.

As for our triathletes and round 2, well they did very well with Aldo Hasbrouch claiming first place in his group and he had the second fastest time for this run too. Also in his group was Loan Kleeper and Cordell Marcus who came in 6th and 7th respectively on run 2. Loan looked strong on the cycling section but she had a little trouble with the run so hopefully she can put everything together for the final. Cordell also looked good and I think his three stages were all done very well for his ability. In terms of advancing we took the top three spots in Group 1 with Cordell in first, Aldo in second, and Loan in third. In Group 2 we saw Halle come in third, then Mirta Alameda in 5th place. Halle looked to be getting back to his old form and put himself in good position coming out of the water. He finished strong and looked to be in great shape. Mirta performed well too, but she needs a little work on her swimming if she wants to compete with the big boys. As for the finishing positions for this group; Halle was in 4th place while Alameda was in the 5th and final spot.

Good luck to everyone in the Finals!

NTA June Open
Timbermunich Trails
An NTA Event hosted by Timbermunich
Welcome to Timbermunich

Timbermunich Information

Welcome to Timbermunich a land of giant trees, Greats, and beautiful nature surrounds. Timbermunich is still relatively primitive; there are no paved roads, no skyscrapers, and little to no technological advancements. The nation is a nature lovers dream and is covered in a complete forest, except in the Vegetal Region as that has been cleared of all trees in order to help produce food for the entire nation. There are a number of wild creatures that inhabit the forest so please be aware of those if you venture off of any of the trails that are between the villages. The people of Timbermunich are extremely easy going and welcoming of all visitors, so long as they abide by the Timbermunich laws. The nation is ruled by Great Battle, Great One-Arm Willy, and the Elders of the other villages. There are a number of Greats that help enforce all laws and anyone caught breaking any will be removed from Timbermunich instantly by means of the Great Ax, a great powerful and magical tool/weapon that Great Battle wields.

Triathletes will be welcomed into TimberOak Grove, which is the northern most village. The village is just to the south of the Heart of the Grove, which is a sacred place. There is a magical aura surrounding the Heart of the Grove and any mortal (None Timbermunich Great) that enters is instantly divulged of all flesh and left as just a skeleton at or near the point of entry, so please do not attempt to enter this area. The Greats will be monitoring this boarder during the tournament for your safety and the protection of the Heart of the Grove. As for other regions and villages, feel free to visit these as you see fit during your stay here in Timbermunich. If you need travel assistance please inquire with a village member as we do not allow cars of any kind within our boarders. We will be happy to loan out horses, TimberStags, or other forms of travel equipment if you do need to get somewhere, just ask.

If you care to learn more about the people of Timbermunich feel free to check out a few of our Histories. Please note that ‘Heart of the Grove’ is still a work in progress and the latest portion can be found here

Greats: What is a Great you may ask? Well in short they are semi-immortal beings that protect and serve all of Timbermunich. They are the security force that keeps Timbermunich running and they allow no harm to come to the TimberOaks, The Heart of the Grove, or the TimberHeart. They are superior beings that are selected at or just before birth by the Great Battle Ax. Greats are also known as Lumberjacks or just Jacks when competing in sporting events and the two words are interchangeable with respect to our athletes. What follows is a short blurb from our World Cup 69 team and it has a bit more detail too:
The Lumberjacks or Jacks, as they are often called, that make up the Hardwoods’ roster are a brawny bunch plucked from the limbs of Great TimberOaks which stand deep within the Great Timbermunich Forest. These Great TimberOaks are massive trees that make up the central portion of the Great Timbermunich Forest, the trees stand at nearly 424 meters tall with trunks that can reach upwards of 32 meters in diameter. It is said that these Lumberjacks once selected spend their entire life within the Great Timbermunich Forest. To be a Jack in Timbermunich is a great honor and they are now selected by The Great Battle Axe while still in utero. They are tasked with guarding the Great Timbermunich Forest from all harm (natural or otherwise) starting at their birth and continuing to their death, that is if they actually do die as no one has ever witnessed a Jacks death nor has a Jacks body ever been discovered void of life they seem to vanish from existence once they reach an estimated 250 years of forest protection. It is also said that each of the Great TimberOaks has a single Jack to watch along with the shared duty over the rest of the Great Timbermunich Forest. If true this would mean that there are approximately 450 thousand Jacks, there are also nearly 100000 trees (multiple genomes) per living Timbermunichers (everyday folks: 50 million) so there are a great number of trees to watch over.

You may be asking what this has to do with a soccer team, well you see the Jacks get a small senescence in which they are able to leave the Great Timbermunich Forest and they choose to play sports during this abscission time. Much of the lore around the Jacks seems to indicate this is their final farewell before vanishing from the forest. It is unknown if a Jack gets more than one senescence or not, we have seen some Jacks on more than one cycles roster, but since the legends are not written down we don’t know if this is due to the length of ones senescence or if they have more than one. They do seem to stick with the more strength and power sporting events, which we attribute to their physical stature and strength. After all they spend their entire life wielding one or sometimes two Double Bit Great Felling Axe, an axe that no normal human can lift. This doesn’t mean we don’t see them in finesse sports; it’s just more common for them to choose physical sports more during their senescence.

Format

The tournaments group stage will consist of five days of Ironman Triathlons with a day rest between each running. Scoring for the group stage will be on a scale based on total Group Members, which there are a total of 54 participants. Groups were selected using a random order generator and will have the following point breakdown based on finishing position: 1st - 15pts, 2nd - 13pts, 3rd - 11pts, 4th - 9pts, 5th - 8pts, 6th - 7pts, 7th - 6pts, 8th - 5pts, 9th - 4pts, 10th - 3pts, 11th/12th - 2pts, 13th/14th - 1pt (15,13,11,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,2,1,1). Any DNF as noted will receive the maximum time for tie breaker situations but they shall receive zero (0) points for that day. The top 5 individuals after the final group day is complete will advance to the Final.

The Final will be a single day event with the best overall time being crowned the winner.

Tiebreakers, if needed, will only be used during the group stage and it will be done on total time basis, which if it goes beyond the standard point qualifier. So any ties in points after the five group days will be decided on a total time basis. Anyone with a DNF result will receive the stage maximum of 17:00:00 for tie breaker purposes. If for some reason triathletes are still tied after comparing points and total time a single event will be run with those tied at that point to determine the triathlete who will advance.

RP cut-off time will be between 9pm and 11pm EST (1am and 2am GMT), with any change to this window being posted well ahead of time. The first scorination date will be on Friday June 19th, 2015 (or 19th depending on where you are located) with the following schedule there after:

GD1: 6-19-14
GD2: 6-21-14
GD3: 6-23-14
GD4: 6-25-14
GD5: 6-27-14
FD: 6-29-14

GD# = Group Day # | FD# = Fianl Day

Courses

Ironman (Full)
Swim: 2.4 mile (3.86 km)
Cycling: 112 mile (180.25 km)
Run: 26.2 mile (42.2 km)
Time Limit: Strict 17 hours
There are three routes for each section (Swim, Bike, and Run), which should give us 27 possible route combinations if needed. With this style we hope to offer the triathletes a new scenic route each day utilizing each section coarse at least once along the way.

Swim Courses
Image
Portion of Quellwassermunich Lake
All of the swimming will be done in Quellwassermunich Lake, the largest of the few fresh spring water lakes within Timbermunich. The three courses will be the same in respect to distance and finish location but will vary in start location and overall route. The finish locations will all be on the north western edge of the lake and will be set up as follows. Also note that any dangerous or deadly water dwelling creature is being monitored by the Greats while the triathletes are in the water and they should not bother anyone. The creatures that fall into those categories also do not like excessive movement so as long as you’re actively swimming you’ll have nothing to worry about anyway.

S1 – The S1 course will be set up in a teardrop shape with its start and finish zones only being 20 meters apart. The buoys will start out heading south and then veer east for a bit. They will then start a gradual loop that will bring the triathletes back to the left of the original start location (when looking out from shore). The triathletes will keep the buoys on their left side the entire swim.

S2 – The S2 course will be set up in a triangle shape and again the start and finish will only be about 20 meters apart. The triathletes will start this swim heading slightly southwest before making a hard right turn. The will then swim the same distance before making the final right hand turn and heading back to the transition area. All three sections of this triangle shape will be the same distance. The buoys on this course will always be on the right.

S3 – The S3 course will be an almost straight swim where triathletes will start to the east of the finish location. The triathletes will swim at a slight angle to start, as this will allow them to get into deeper water. They will then swim parallel to the shore until they are near the finish area, which at that point they will angle to shore in order to hit the finish. All buoys on this course will be on the triathletes left.

Cycling
Image
Forest Trail
The cycling section will be on some winding tails that will all head north out of the staging area. They will be on mostly gravel and dirt so plan accordingly when preparing your bikes. There will be Greats throughout the course to ensure the correct trail is followed. We will also have period repair booths along the way just in case a bike breaks down, gets a flat tire, or something else. These booths will also have bike ready water bottles, which will be set up in a way that you can simply grab one while riding past. So be sure to make use of those if needed, also be sure to keep your eyes open for some of our native species along the ride as there are some unique ones out there. Our Greats will be securing all of the trails so predator attacks will not be a factor.

C1 – This ride will head to the west after the initial northern trail leads you away from Quellwassermunich Lake. It then hugs the western boarder of Timbermunich for most of the distance before finally heading due east and into the village of TimberOak Grove where it will end and the transition to running will be. This is a relatively flat course with very little elevation change, the challenge here will be the windiness of the route.

C2 – The second possible cycling section will break to the east at the point that C1 goes to the west and head into the outer edge of the Pinophytania Region. This too will be a very windy route as it weaves between, under, over, and through a great number of the trees on the Great Timbermunich Forest and Pinophytania boarder. This route has some hills but nothing that is deemed challenging in terms of ascent and descent. This route will end within TimberOak Grove and transition into one of the running sections.

C3 – The third possible cycling section will continue north, where the other two split outwards. This route will have the most hills as it zigs and zags its way toward TimberOak Grove. There are a number of rolling hills along the way with two of them having a rather difficult climb, but those climbs are accompanied by a relatively easy route down the other side. Although the trail its self is very clean the area that it goes through has some of the densest sections of forest and there are some spots were little to no light from above the canopy makes it to the floor, so if this route is used our villages will attach light touches to your bicycles in order to see the trail along those sections.

Running

One of the Elevated Trails
Image
Another of the Elevated Trails
All of the running courses will start and end within TimberOak Grove. One will go to the west and return, one will go to the east and return and the third will leave to the east and reenter on from the west. These will be a combination of elevated platform walkways and extremely nice and scenic ground trails. Like the cycling courses they will have water stations set up along each route so if needed you can run right by and grab one on the go.

R1 – This running route will head to the east out of TimberOak Grove and loop around to the north before making a U-turn and heading back to the village on the same path. This path will not be very close to the Heart of the Grove but once it leaves the ground and enters the canopy section you should be able to see portions of it on your left during the out trip and then again on your right on your return trip. The only hills on this route is when entering and exiting the canopy trail section, but know that this is rather steep and rises to the tree canopy quickly. This is more treacherous on the return as it can be a rather sudden drop, there is a warning sign but please watch out for this section of that trail. This route will end just a few meters from were it starts.

R2 – This running route will head to the west our of TimberOak Grove and enters an extremely lush portion of the Timbermunich Forest, so keep your eyes open for rare Golden Woodland Stags (like a Jackalope) and the Orange Orphan (type of bird resembling a cross between an Eagle and Toucan) as they are both said to live in this area. The trail is rather straight with little to no north to south movement and it has a rather gentle rise up into the canopy trail system. The views are exceptional from in the canopy and at the turn around you should be able to see the northern coast of Timbermunich. Even though there aren’t many turns it does end up heading a bit north and is why you should be able to see the northern coast at the turn around point. You will then travel back on the same trail and return to where you started in TimberOak Grove.

R3 – The last option for running routes will start by heading to the east, it will then veer north and up into the canopy trail system only after a few hundred yards. This canopy section has many curves in it and will take you extremely close to the Heart of the Grove, so if you feel any odd sensations please don’t be alarmed. As long as you don’t fall off the canopy trail you have no worry of actually entering the Heart of the Grove and being divulged of all flesh, but if you do happen to fall know our Greats are watching and should catch you before you hit the Heart of the Grove invisible dome (force field type that if passed will render you fleshless). The trail eventually heads east again and then loops under itself to head west. When you hit the loop be prepared to be blinded as the loop actually rises further and will put you briefly above the tree tops before bringing you back down to a shadier canopy trail. The trail heading west is rather straight and will pass over the same section of the Heart of the Grove that you passed before, this time a little higher so if you look to your right you might be able to spot the TimberHearts (this post has some minor information relating to the TimberHeart) clearing. TimberOak Grove would be to your left at this point but you shouldn’t be able to see it form up in the tree tops. It will continue to the west and once it finally turns south your quick descent to the ground will start and before you know it your be back on solid footing. You’ll travel a bit further south before turning east and then entering back into TimberOak Grove for the finish.

Mattijanian training base, Timbermunich

The five Mattijanian entrants had arrived safely and had a reasonably unhindered journey, despite some strange looks from the customs officers and the general public when ten large boxes, containing the parts for the bike needed to be checked out. The base in Wintermunich was practical with an Olympic sized swimming pool and plenty of woodland around the outside where the team could get used to the different and at time challenging conditions of the woodland. The team and their manager, Leon Andropov contacted the hosts in order to express their thanks shortly after their arrival.

The bikes the Mattijaians had brought to the event were well researched and well tested in order to strike a balance between the lightweight road bikes which would struggle on dirt and the heavy duty mountain bikes that would be needed for heavy duty mountain biking on mud and rock. They effectively consisted of a strengthened road bike frame with a thin, but well treated tyre and suspension that had been stripped back, stiffened and lightened to be flexible, but not overly excessive. A carbon fibre mudguard had been applied with a non stick material to minimise unnessary dirt and therefore extra weight finding its way onto the bike. It was a good design, but at the end of the day, it would be the natural ability of the athletes that decided how well the Mattijanian team did.

The most natural cyclist in the team of five was Peter Orlov, who had competed in a few cycling grand tours with some, but fairly infrequent success before turning to Triathlon and building up his different muscles to become a more rounded athlete.
Maria Ruslav and Dmitry Vorlenko were anticipated to be the country's best hopes of a strong result. They were not particularly youthful, but still had time on their side and they were experienced enough to know the quirkes and tactics of world class triathlon championships. Vorlenko was in particularly good form having won 6 of the last 10 domestic races he participated in and having dropped no lower than fifth in any of them. That was more than enough to force his way into the squad. Ruslav was a consistent athlete, if not quite so explosive as Vorlenko. She had taken two podiums out of her last five races having recovered from a muscle problem well in time for the championships.
The socialist republic of Mattijana:
As if Austria, Slovenia, North-Eastern Europe and Sweden were merged together into some weird stew of a country.
through resilience, we are strong!

HopNation could be considered a powerhouse when it comes to Triathlons. We have fantastic facilities for training and some of the best courses for our events. We pride ourselves in trying to generate the best triathletes and this season we are changing how we select those participants for international competition. In the past we simply took our top three triathletes from the prior season and sent them on their way to compete against the best that other Nations have. Now we are refining this and choosing those triathletes that are currently performing at their best in the hopes that they truly our best at this given moment in time.

Females
Josephine Rock: Rock is well, the rock of the woman’s side. She is good at all aspects of the triathlon but if we had to choose it would be her running that is best. She posts strong times on the running sections of any event and this has led her to overtaking her completion if she happens to be behind them after the swim and ride portion. We are hopeful that she can perform as well here and bring back pride to our woman triathletes.

Loan Klepper: Klepper is trailing Rock by just a few points on the overall leader board and has some great potential. She is a great swimmer and was actually a national champion while in secondary school. Since she cross trained with running and cycling it was only natural that the triathlon coaches found her and got her started in these events. She should do very well here.

Regine Baine: Baine is simply tough as nails. She once finished a race with a broken arm and some nasty road rash after crashing in a pileup during the cycling portion of an event. She can make it through almost anything if she sets her mind to it and is one of the only female triathletes to finish HopNation’s Double Ultra Triathlon (distance of two Ironmans). I see her placing well here.

Kathi Gerner: Gerner or Gern as many of the other HopNaiton triathletes call here is somewhat considered the veteran of the group, but that is mostly due to her being one of the older females. She is consistent at each discipline and should be considered a contender no matter the circumstances. Although her best are would have to be her swimming, it’s almost like she is part fish because she loves the water.

Rozanne Engelke: Rozanne has been picking up speed over the last couple months and has found herself right in the mix amongst our top triathletes in HopNation. For her it’s the bike that she feels most at home on and has placed well in recent events simple because the other ladies can’t keep up with her on the roadways. We’ll have to see how she adjusts to the forest trails here in Timbermunich, but it shouldn’t be too out of her comfort zone seeing as she has trained on these trails in the past.

Good luck to all competitors!

The June 2015 Triathlon

As the June triathlon competition draws ever nearer, here's a short article on everything you need to know about our team.

The Kit

Image

If you’re looking for a race suit that will improve aerodynamics, decrease muscle fatigue, naturally keep you cool, and provide maximum comfort over long distances, then the Orca 226 Kompress race suit is perfect. Perfect for all distances - this is made using lightweight, breathable material that keeps you cool, comfortable and very agile during the race.

The bike:

Image

The BMC TM02 is a refined take on the most functional and proven style of tri bike. With frame geometry keyed for realistic aero fits and a Profile Design T2+ aerobar capable of adapting to many different reach dimensions, the TM02 is shaped for real tri performance. This bike also includes fully customized wheels based on the course.

The triathletes

A new triathlon craze has swept Welcomzia, so let's meet our representatives:

Cathal Banks: Age: 28 World Rank: 1
The three times champion and current holder of the Welcomzia Triatholan Championship (WTC) Cathal has always been a solid and consistent performer, although other thriathletes have been recently giving him a run for his money. He's particularly good at running and specializes in the Ironman race.

Jack Cosgrove Age: 32 World Rank: 2

The veteran, the leader, the hero. Fan favourite Jack Cosgrove has five WTC titles to his name, and after coming back from injury, is on the course again. As he grows older his times have gone down a bit, but he's still the heart and soul of the team.

Donncha Bannon Age: 23 World Rank: 3

Donncha was a rising star but alcohol and an all-round bad attitude saw that he hasn't quite fulfilled his potential. However the man who came second in the WTC is very much so on the rebound, and has shown more temperament after his last gaffe. A good tournament could be in the making for him.

Conor Pietersen Age: 26 World Rank: 4

The rock of team, Conor has picked up many injuries and has carried on, regardless of the pain. The twenty six year old loves cycling and had to choose between being a mountain biker and a triathlete. In the end he made the right choice and is very well like on and off the course.

Lucas da Silva Age: 19 World Rank: 6

The young up and coming star is only really in the team due to the injury of Joshua van Gent. The young lad is very shy but also very talented, and is tipped to go on to do great things. Lucas is a divine swimmer and is usually ahead of the rest after the swim. He won both the under 21 and under 18 national triathlon tournaments last year.

Welcome to Zillmerilic Daily Sports News!

Tez: Welcome to another day of sports! As many Merilics know, the 2015 Triathlon Open Tournament for June Have opened, and our great nation has sent their triathletes to compete among the best in the world.

Xiao: That's right Tez. We have 5 competitors in this months competition, and we are expecting great things from our first showing! After many open tryouts and competitons, our top Merilics are: Louiz Katz, Hart Temz, Zeke Uriz, Raiem Kote, and Traz Cloiz. Our oldest competitor is 30 years old with our youngest being 22.

Tez: Now that our athletes have left for Timbermunich, we will be looking into their abilities and accomplishments. We have talked to the athletes friends, families, and coaches. With this information, we will be looking at each of our athletes in depth through the competition. We will be covering one athlete per day, this way our views won't be overwhelmed with information. We will do coverage on our competitors starting with the youngest, Louiz Katz. But before we get to that, Xiao will fill us in on the parameters of the triathlon.

Xiao: This triathlon will be a full Ironman Triathlon! Each athlete will do three events in one day, starting with a swim. Each swim is 3.86 Kilometers, or 2.4 miles for those in our country who have not switched to the metric system yet. All of the swimming will be done in the beautiful lake of Quellwassermunich Lake in Timbermunich. The lake will hold all of the athletes and more. The course will be different for each swim, so the participants will hopefully have a chance to swim in their personal ideal circumstances.

Next will be the biking or cycling. Each athlete will bike a grueling 180.25 Kilometers, or 112 miles. This part of the race will go on winding trails on the Forest Trails. While there are three different paths the cyclist could be going, all of the paths end in TimberOak Grove before transitioning to the running stage. The trails will be mostly gravel and dirt, so our competitors will have a slight edge being that their training area is the, in essence, same terrain. Along the trails will be area for athletes to get water, and, if need be, repair kits.

After their cycling in the forest, competitors will come to the final stage of the triathlon, the running. This part of the race will be 42.2 Kilometers, or 26.2 miles. This part will also be one of the most unique running trails imaginable. Timbermunich has many canopy trails that the athletes will rise into and run atop. Runners will be exhausted by this point, but they may be amazed at the animals and sights they will see. The lush forests and scenery is completely different from Zillmerilic's views and areas, so hopefully it will rejuvenate our competitors as they finish off the stage. This will end their days events. Tez...

Tez: Athletes will be given points based on their finishing standings. Their times will rank them and they will get points varying from 1-15. They will then have a day off before the next triathlon. Each grouping will be different from the previous, so competitors will not swim/bike/run the same course while they are in Timbermunich. The competition will be five days of Ironman Competition, after which the top five scorers will advance to a final. The winner will be the best time of that Final Ironman Triathlon!

We will be starting our special with Louiz Katz tonight on Zillmerilics Sports Nightly. Tune in to find out all about our youngest competitor and how he got to where he is now... an international athlete!

Tez & Xiao: Until tonight, Go Zillmerilic!

WTS Triatholan Update

*(WTS = Welcomzian Television Studio)

"It's now time for the Sports news with Adam Sullivan"

"In the June Triathlon Open today, our competitors fared very well. All five combined received a total of 55 points, and all have a decent chance of qualifying for the final. Here's how our boys fared:"

Group 1: Name; Race Position; Time; Points

Donncha Bannon 4th; 10:38:27.95 ; 9

Donncha started the race well at the swimming stage, but a crash half way through cycling saw him get overtaken by Gerner (HPN), Katz (ZMC) and Baine (HPN). However, he got himself and his bike fixed up, and, the man ranked 3rd in Welcomzia, managed to finish the race 4th.

Group 2:

Jack Cosgrove; 3rd; 9:10:50.18; 11

Jack put himself in a good position to qualify for the final with a solid performance, piping Josephina Rock from Hop Nation to the finish in the last 200m of the running stage. It was a close race with the pair finishing behind Rudiyesevitch (MAT) and Uriz (ZMC). In the closing stages the duo had 200m left. The 32 year old was a few seconds behind, destined to finish 4th. As he opened his mouth, breathing heavy, a bird flying overhead decided to go to the toilet mid-air. The waste landed in Cosgrove's mouth. And then he mysteriously gained incredible speed from nowhere, easily finishing ahead of Rock in 3rd. Whether these mysterious powers will remain in the next race, we'll have to wait and see.

Group 3:

Lucas da Silva; 2nd; 9:11:29.69; 13
Conor Pietersen; 4th; 10:21:44.27; 9

Two of our triathletes were in action in group 3. 19 year old sensation Lucas da Silva impressed pundits yet again today with a fine performance. The youngster was ahead of the rest after cycling, but unfortunately he was overtaken by Raiem Kote with approximately 8km left to go. In a press conference he said he was pleased that he did so well, but also very disappointed to have lost the race near the end.

A strange incident happened to Pietersen. Whilst he was coming out of the water from swimming, a ruffian took off with his shoes. Pietersen tracked down the thief, and personally took the shoes back. Although the whole thing delayed him about thirty minutes. By the time he got back on the course he recovered to finish a respectable fourth, earning him nine points, and a step closer to the final.

Group 4:

Cathal Banks; 2nd; 9:28:08.46; 13

The current national champion, ranked first in the nation rankings, did excellent today. Cathal made record time during swimming, but unfortunately a few bumps and bruises whilst cycling delayed him a bit, as he finished behind Peter Orlov (MAT). Banks had a solid and icident-free showing this time round, the latter not being something many of his teammates can say in an eventful day in Timbermunich.

"Back to you in the studio Adam!"

"Thanks. Here are some images of the race today:"

Zillmerilic Daily Sports News!!

Tez: Welcome back Merilics!! We have an exciting episode today; we will be looking into some of triathletes and their stories.

Xiao: But first we have the standings from the first days action! We Merilics can be proud this day because every one of our athletes performed extraordinarily well! Our five Merilics scored a total of 60 points! Before we go into that, here is Tez with some information on the groupings.

Tez: Thank you Xiao. So there are 4 groups in the June Triathlon Open Tournament, each group contains 13-14 athletes from the various nations competing. Zillmerilic has 5 contenders, therefore we have at least one athlete in each group, but one extra in Group 2. Each group will receive points separately from the other groups, and the athletes are trying to score enough to get into the next grouping for the Finals. Xiao...

Xiao: Our triathletes have done well thus far in their groups, all of them have achieved 5th place or better! In Group 1 we have Luiz Katz. Katz did a wonderful job, finishing 2nd in his group, earning himself 13 points! He finished all three stages with a time of 9:08:55.85. Being our youngest athlete, Katz has showed that he is not nervous about the competition, and is ready to perform, or outperform, against this tough competition. Katz was beaten by Kathi Gerner(HPN) of Hopnation. Hopnation is well known for their sports, and just last month our Football team competed in Hopnation at the World Bowl. I think we can expect a good competition between these two, fine young men. I can't wait to see how they do against each other. Their times were only 23 seconds apart! That is almost unheard of in competition of this duration!

Tez: In Group 2 we have two triathletes, Zeke Uriz and Hart Temz. Temz finished 5th place in the group with a time of 9:22:39.82, very respectable and far from the slowest of the athletes. He finished behind another Hopnation athlete, Josephina Rock. But with his finish, Temz has earned 8 points. It may be a hole for him to dig out of, but I think we will find that his biography might reveal why he slightly under performed. Also in Group 2 we have Zeke Uriz. Uriz had a very fast time at 8:57:58.70. This blistering pace wasn't enough to win the group, but he lost to the top time among all of the triathletes! In fact you will see that his time was the best of the Merilics and third overall. With his second place, Uriz earned 13 points. I think we can expect him to do very well and hopefully improve even more.

Xiao: Representing Zillmerilic in Group 3 is Raiem Kote. Kote had a wonderful group of stages. He finished his group in first place with a time of 9:01:35.88! He was fully 10 minutes ahead of the second place finisher, Lucas da Silva(WEL). Kote is the only Merilic to have finished first, but let us hope he won't be the last. He earned 15 points with his victorious first day.
In the last group, Group 4, we had Traz Cloiz. Cloiz was competing against the top triathlete of the first day, and finished 46 minutes after Peter Orlov(MAT) and 12 minutes behind Cathal Banks(WEL). While finishing 3rd with a time of 9:40:39.38, Cloiz is capable of doing better. He might have gotten caught up with the pass with Orlov and grew tired sooner, but we won't know until we do our interviews with the athletes later on. Cloiz earned 11 points on the first day.

Tez: As the first day closes, we have the standings from each group, but also for all racers. It is simple to say this first day, but here are the standings, up to and including our athletes:
Group 1:
Kathi Garner(HPN)
Luiz Katz(ZMC)

Group 2:
Ana Rudiyesevitch(MAT)
Zeke Uriz(ZMC)
Jack Cosgrove(WEL)
Josephina Rock(HPN)
Hart Temz(ZMC)

Group 3:
Raiem Kote(ZMC)

Group 4:
Peter Orlov(MAT)
Cathal Banks(WEL)
Traz Cloiz(ZMC)

With the first day in the bag, we also have how well our athletes did among other competitors.
place-name-time-points
3rd Zeke Uriz - 8:57:58.70 - 13
4th Raiem Kote - 9:01:35.88 - 15
6th Luiz Katz - 9:08:55.85 - 13
10th Hart Temz - 9:22:39.82 - 8
12th Traz Cloiz - 9:40:39.38 - 11

I'd say that is pretty good considering there are more than 50 competitors.

Xiao: I think you're right Tez, a marvelous start to the competition. I feel that our Merilics will have a handful with the athletes from Welcomzia, Hopnation, and Mattijana. Each of these nations also have many competitors in the top 5 of their groups. Welcomzia is equal with Zillmerilic having all 5 of their athletes in the top 5 of their group. Both Hopnation and Mattijana have four of their five athletes raning in the top 5 of their group. It is close between these powerhouse nations and we need to show our triathletes our support!

Until next time, when we will discuss our Top athlete thus far, Goodnight Zillmerilic and Go Polar Bears!

Edited for size - originally done an a rather large monitor and didn't realize it overlapped so bad. It's probably not much better but at least now it appears side by side on a 19" screen rather than a 24".....

a well-known sports reporter has somehow gotten a bit of information out from where ever he is
It’s been a long time since anyone has seen or heard from him….hopefully this will not be the last

Well what can I say; I’ve been in hiding for a while now. Just know that I’m okay but can’t elaborate on it right now. Perhaps I can get into it later. What I can get into is the June Triathlon Open Event. We have five individuals competing there and although I’m hopeful that they will represent our great nation with pride and all their effort I don’t think they will come home with any hardware. Sure they are good and sitting at the top of our domestic triathlon circuit, but this is something entirely different. It is world class competition and so far we have not been disappointed with the displays of effort and perseverance shown so far in Timbermunich. I think I even saw a participant crashed on his or her bike, got up and fixed whatever issue they had and continued on to finish in the top half of their respective group. So you can see there are some great competitors here competing. Let’s take a quick peek at our lot of athletes and then I better get going back into hiding for a bit longer.

In Group 1 we have two triathletes; Kathi Gerner and Regine Baine. Both are very good triathletes and I’m optimistic that they both will make it out of the group stage, giving themselves a good fighting chance to show their best in the final. Right now Kathi is the one doing just a bit better, she is currently 2nd after two days with a first place and a fourth place finish thus far. Regine, who I would have through would be leading the group is in on the bubble spot in 5th. She finished third on day one, but then had a rather disappointing outing on day two where she finished in the tenth spot. Hopefully they both get a good day of rest before going back at it in group 1.

Group 2 we have just one triathlete and that is Josephina Rock. She is doing just fine so far and is actually tied for 4th place in her group after two fourth place finishes. So even with a change of course she was still able to maintain her stride and stay consistent. If she continues to do well she shall find herself in a good position going into the final few group days and with some luck will also make the final.

Rozanne Engelke and Loan Klepper can be found in Group 3. They are in 5th and 7th place respectively with a lot of trail ahead of them. I’m not sure that either of them are performing at their best right now and I even heard a rumor that one of them is battling some shin injury suffered during training leading up to the event, but I’m not sure which one it is. Either way they both have a bit of business to take care of if they wish to make it to the final.

Finally in Group 4 we have no one. That’s right with just five participants entered we are only represented in three of the four groups. I recall in past events we have, even when doubles occur, had at least one participant in each group for triathlon events. It is what it is and we can only hope, maybe even pray a little, that all five of the ladies competing in this event make it past the group stage and into the final.

Well like I said I must get going.

Slinging words at you again soon,
RG…

WTC Triathlon Update:

Image

"Well it's over to you Adam for another triathlon update!"

"Thanks Charlie. Our representatives in the June edition of the triathlon open excelled out on the course today. All of our triathletes are at least in the top 3 of their groups, three of them, (Lucas da Silva, Cathal Banks and Jack Cosgrove) top their groups. And yet the strange thing is, none of our triathletes have actually won a race yet."

"Our triathletes finished today with a combined total of 62 points. Seven more than last time round. We have an overall combined total of 117 points."

Here are the results so far:

Group 1:

In group 1, Donncha Bannon is third in his group, and came third today. The twenty three year old struggled a bit, still feeling the impact of his crash on day one, finishing with a time of 11:22:19.14. This earned him 11 points, 20 in total, which is four points behind Maria Ruslav (MAT) and eight points behind Luiz Katz (ZMC). Hopefully he'll close the gap on the pair, and push on.

Group 2:

Now this is an interesting group. The bird waste Jack Cosgrove swallowed didn't really speed him up, in fact he was 95 minutes slower this time around, but still managed to come second, with a time of, 10:44:19.88. The veteran, ranked 2nd in Welcomzia, is joint top in his group, with the same amount of points as Zeke Uriz (ZMC). He needs to watch his back though as another representative of ZMC, Hart Temz, the winner of today's race, came from nowhere and is now only one point behind.

Group 3:

Lucas da Silva continues to impress. He's having an excellent tournament, and is now leading group 3 with 26 points. He's three points ahead of second placed Raiem Kote (ZMC). The young lad, only 19, finished second again today, with a time of 9:26:52.85. Which was only two minutes behind surprise winner Ludwig Wolfgang von Scheitz (NKM). Lucas again excelled whilst cycling, but again got overtook in running, definitely something he needs to work on. But the way he's going, the teenager looks set to have a promising future at the top of the game.

As for Pietersen, the thirty two year old made a big improvement from last time out. He finished with a time of 9:27:14.85, one minute behind teammate Lucas Da Silva, and astonishingly, two hours ahead of 4th placed Rozanne Engelke (HPN). Pietersen, as always put in a solid performance, and is now 3rd overall with 20 points, three ahead of Von Scheitz (NKM) who came only 12th in round 1 when he injured his hamstring, but still carried on.

Group 4

Fortunately Cathal is starting to replicate his national form, and like Da Silva came second twice in a row, to become joint top of his group, with another ZMC representative, Traz Cloiz. Both have 26 points going into the third round. Cathal's time for today was 10:00:58.82, almost an hour behind Cloiz.

"As you can see, all our athletes have a great chance of qualifying. But how do their times in both rounds combined compare with each other?"

Our triatletes compared:

1st: Lucas da Silva: 19:08:22.54
2nd: Cathal Banks: 19:29:16.98
3rd: Kevin Pietersen: 19:48:59.32
4th: Jack Cosgrove: 19:55:09.46
5th: Donncha Bannon: 22:00:47.09

"Baring Donncha Bannon who's having a poor campaign compared to the others, all of our triatletes times were very close together. Let's keep up the excellent work."

"That's all the news from us for the June triathlon open."

"Moving on, in soccer news today...."

And now, more from Zillmerilic Daily Sports News!

Tez: Tonight we have more of the action from Timbermunich! Our triathletes are still competing and succeeding quite well in the tournament! We will take a look at each athletes times, scores, and how they are fairing in their groups thus far. We also will have some updates, from Xiao, on how our competitors did during this last leg or their competition.

Xiao: Today was a very good day for our Triathletes. Let us break down each competitor by group. In Group 1 we have Luiz Katz. In the first day of competition, Katz finished second in his group with a time of 9:08:55.85. Yesterday, Katz finished slightly slower with a time of 9:18:18.11. But even with his slight drop off He scored 15 points by coming in first place for his group! With these high finishings, Kats has grasped 1st place in his group after the second day of competition! The closes man to him is a strong looking Kathi Gerner of Hopnation. Gerner (HPN) has 24 points and is only 4 points behind our Katz. Gerner had a wonderful start to the race, and Katz was able to pace with Gerner until the cycling stage. Katz fell behind because of his distaste for that stage, but made up for himself in the running, his strongest stage. He overtook Gerner(HPN) and never looked back.

Tez: In Group 2 we have two Merilics fighting to win, Hart Temz and Zeke Uriz. Both of our athletes were in the top three. Uriz, who finished second on the first day, finished third today. He scored 11 points for himself, bringing his total up to 24 points. He is tied for first with Jack Crosgrove(WEL). Zeke finished only 8 minutes behind Jack yesterday, and kept pace with him almost the entire race. The bright shinning star of the day, though, was Temz. Temz ran the fastest time in the competition thus far, 8:14:44.28. He earned his first place finish in Group 2 and the 15 points that go with it. He now has 23 points, putting him just one point behind both, Crosgrove(WEL) and Uriz. If he keeps up this stunning display of athleticism, he very well could win this tournament!

Xiao: In Group 3 we have Raiem Kote. Kote had a rough day yesterday. He ended up letting his fear of heights get the best of him during hit time in the canopy. He ended up having quite a dizzy spell, and was put out of commission for quite some time. With that said, he was able to rally slightly and still walked away with a 5th place finish. Quite a drop from his 1st place in the previous race. He dropped from first to second in the standings, having 23 points. The leader of that group now is another racer, Lucas da Silva(WEL). Kote is 3 points behind Silva(WEL), but also 3 points ahead of the third place Pietersen(WEL). We must hope that Kote can get back on track and not let his dizzy spell hit again while in the race. His time for yesterday was 12:37:36.95.

Tez: In the final group, Group 4, we have Traz Cloiz. Cloiz finished 1st in his group with a time of 9:04:23.89 and aquired 15 more points to add to his previous 11. He is not tied for 1st with Cathal Banks(WEL) at 26 points. The closest contender to them is Peter Orlov(MAT) at 19 points. Cloiz headed out fast, and finished fast, not needing the pace of another racer. It was like he was in his own world for most of the race. Afterwards, he said it was, "like a dream." Hopefully, he will have more dreams while racing and continue this strong pace.

Xiao: We have seen the standings among other contenders, especially from Welcomzia and Hopnation, but how are our racers stacking up against each other?

It is difficult to see how well some are faring because of the different groups, but lets see how each person has performed thus far.

Athlete-total time-total points
Luiz Katz-18:27:13.96-28
Hart Temz-17:38:24.0-23
Zeke Uriz-19:45:43.55-24
Raiem Kote-21:39:12.83-23
Traz Cloiz-18:45:03.26-26

As we can see here, Katz has the best score, but not the best time. Temz holds that best time with his incredible race yesterday. It is really amazing that his time is so much quicker than Kote, but, yet, they still have the same points. Cloiz's score and times are both very good. All of our competitors are doing well, against each other and against the competition. We hope to see them rise even more, and separate themselves from the competition, but only time will reveal the outcome!

Look for us tonight as we share about Traz Cloiz, our 24 year old from the rough terrains of Norther Zillmerilic, on Zillmerilic Sports Nightly!

Tez & Xiao: Goodnight Zillmerilic, and Go Polar Bears!

Zillmerilic Daily Sports News

Tez: Thank you for joining us yet again! We have plenty to share with you today, including updates from Timbermunich and our Triathletes!

Xiao: We have quite the stir today, and lots of good news for our Nation! First we will go over the standings among our own competitors before we go into how they are matching up against rival nations. Lets look, first, at their overall times.

First we have:

Hart Temz with a full time of 26:50:56.92. He has been our most consistent athlete, with times relatively close together. An average of just under 9 hours each. Quite amazing!

Next is Zeke Uriz at 28:35:59.81. This is hardly surprising because of the competition in that group, including Temz! His average is also right around 9 hours per race. He and Temz have been building off of each others pacing and finishing quite well, and usually one right after the other.

In a close third, based on time, we have Traz Cloiz. He is only minutes behind Uriz at 28:45:34.60. He is the only Merilic in his group, and that might be effecting his time because of pacing issues, but we will get into that later.

Fourth is Luiz Katz with a time of 29:12:17.54. Another Merilic on his own in his group, but also quite a strong athlete in his own right. He continues to do well despite his being solo. We still expect great things from him, and all our athletes.

Finally, last but not least, is Raiem Kote with a time of 30:56:02.44. Kote is a bit behind in his times, but he is right on pace with the rest of the team in points. He is holding his own in Group 3 and is still in a place that he could take over the group.

Tez: If we look at the athletes based on their over all points, we have a slightly different rankings:

Katz-41
Uriz-39
Cloiz-39
Kote-36
Temz-36

So you see we have a very interesting time order compared to points. This is because each groups times vary so much that even a high time could still be first place in one group, but not in another. For example, Temz has an amazing time, but he has 36 points. This is because in the first days competition he had a decent time, but everyone else had decent times that happened to be better than his. He ended up about 5th place, giving him 8 points. This shows us that only great times and consistently great times will guarantee high points and movement into the final rounds.

Now that we have seen how our triathletes compare to each other, lets take a look at how they are doing in their own groups. Xiao will tell us how they did in yesterdays events.

Xiao: We had some excellent competition yesterday, and it shows quite well in Group 1. While Katz is well ahead of the group with 41 points, the next being Bannon(WEL) with 25 points, he is consistently performing in the top of the group. He finished second with a time of 10:45:03:59, only 15 minutes after Jack Lazarus of NKM. Katz 13 points was enough to keep him in first place among Group 1. We hope that he can continue his wonderful and consistent performance!

Group 2 is much more of a competition. The scores are tight between the top three. Zeke Uriz holds onto first with 39 points followed closely by teammate Hart Temz at 36. Jack Cosgrove of WEL is only 1 point behind Temz, and is in striking distance of both athletes. The times for the group were, once again, very high quality. Uriz finished first with 8:50:16.26 followed by Temz with 9:12:32.92. Finally, Crosgrove(WEL) rounded out the top 3 with 9:51:11.87. I have a feeling that this group will come down to day 5, and it is still up for grabs.

Tez: In Group 3 we have Raiem Kote competing vigorously with Lucas da Silva of WEL and Conor Pietersen also of WEL. The race yesterday finished just as the standings are today. Silva(WEL) finished 1st with 8:48:21.73 followed by Kote at 9:16:49.61, then almost two hours later at 11:05:47.31 was Pieterson(WEL). The point standings in this group are as follows:
Silva-41
Kote-36
Pietersen-31

This is another group that could come down to the final races. Hopefully, if we cheer hard enough, Kote will be able to pull through and finish on top of the group!

The last group has a little separation in the scoring. Group 4 is topped by Cathal Banks(WEL at 41 points with Traz Cloiz right on their heels at 39. The next athlete has 28 points and is from GLI, Soyolev Frezetchka. This is the first we have seen them in this race, but hopefully they won't be pulling out any upsetting times and placings. Cloiz has every opportunity to overtake Banks(WEL), but only time will tell! The times for this race were also a little staggered, but Cloiz was only 3 minutes behind Banks(WEL) at the end of the running stage. Cloiz hit a strong 9:16:49.61 with Frezetchka(GLI) coming in at 11:30:01.41. Cloiz hit his stride in the run, but it kicked in minutes late. Banks(WEL) ended with 9:13:37.55. A very close race, and shapping up for some very good competition.

Xiao: We have seen quite a bit of this competition thus far. There are only two more races before the finals, and we feel that there is a good chance our triathletes will continue on to the finals. In 4 groups, every one of our Merilic athletes are in the top 2. Some have closer scores than others, but for now it looks promising. The major cmopetition out there seems to come from WEL. They have all 5 of their athletes in the top 3 of their groups. HPN and GLI have contenders, but it seems a majority of the competition is from WEL.

WEL has two contendors leading their groups, one in 2nd, and one in 3rd. Zillmerilic has two leading their groups, and three in second. HPN has one in 3rd as does GLI. As the races continue, I think we will start to see some of the real stars pop up. This is grueling competition, but that is nothing to the wear and tear the athletes bodies go through during the competition. Only the most well prepared and iron willed can continue with such a difficult competition, and of those... finish on top. I believe in our athletes and as usual I wish them the best of luck!

Tune in tonight for our rundown on another triathlete, our 25 year old Zeke Uriz!

Tez & Xiao: Until then... Good evening and Go Polar Bears!
