O'Malley Wins First Group Match

Greg O'Malley won his first group match of the current tennis tournament. We are very sorry to the world for the serious lack of updates. There was a torrential downpour on Rottington, which shut down all of our government and sport telecommunications. As we slowly rebuild, please bear with us, as the quality of update will be poor for the next few days as we replace the system. However, we have an interview with Mr. O'Malley done by Jake Peters, which was run over to our offices within the past 10 minutes. The interview took place a few days ago.

JP: Greg, only Walamzian in the group stage this time around. How does that feel?
GOM: I feel OK with that. I didn't have such a good tournament in Cadenza, so I eel that this is good for me.
JP: Any thoughts on the disappointing end to the World Bowl?
GOM: It is disappointing, but it doesn't affect me too much.
JP: Well, have you heard from Edgar this past week?
GOM: I have. He just told me to keep my head up and to keep playing. He's turned out to be a good guy.
JP: Any idea what's been going wrong with Nate's head recently?
GOM: I've talked to him over the weekend. He seems to be holding up well after that shocking defeat he suffered in the first round of the Cadenza Clay tournament.

This is coming across the wire here: Nate Tomlinson has arrived to the tournament, but he does not receive his usual ovation from the traveling Walamzians. Some of our systems are rebooting; we will have a full update later today.

"Good evening, Neu Engollon. I'm Dom Toglani bringing you the NETV Sports 19 Update. Tonight we go to Albergaria, where the next Open for the ATP Astyrian series has started. The Series is officially halfway through, and we have yet to see a player from the Confederacy move on to the later stages of any of the tournaments. Close...They have gotten close, but...alas, we are unlikely to see one of the NETC players move into the finals this year.
Despite that, the Neu Engollian players are doing stunningly well, for the most part in this second Tier tourney.
Once again, Paul Quiront has rejoined the team and the controversy surrounding him has yet to completely blow over. Word has it that every other Neu Engollian player is avoiding him off court like the plague, which, knowing Paul, that probably suits him just fine.

Once again, we had Marla Gerard, Matti Doerwald, and Danjiella Zovic doing very well so far in their singles matches, in addition to Mr. Cranky...er, I mean Mr. Quiront. I almost feel like I'm jinxing them by mentioning their progress. Each have won two matches against some tough opponents. We expect more excellent matches from these players in sunny Albergaria.

Meanwhile, the doubles teams have not done so well, but not for lack of trying. Marla and Danjiella had an extremely epic match against their Walamzian opponents, Carlin and Smith, with the end set going to 10 games with plenty of advantage trade offs.
Quiront and Doerwald also lost their match to Blackhelm Confederates Talltree and Redstone. With the matches being close, but not quite as close as the ladies' matches.

Predictions, ultimately, go to the usual suspects, the Ourens and Cenians, to take this Open as they have most every other in this series and in recent ATP history.
We will keep you updated on the BCA Albergaria Open, right here on NETV Sports 19. Stay tuned for some gridiron coverage at the World Bowl..."
TG me with questions if you got some, especially about GE&T or PMCs.

O'Malley Loses; Waltrip Speaks Out Again

Greg O'Malley once again proves how poorly conditioned he is, at least accprding to Edgar Waltrip. He entrs the final match day with no chance at qualification to the next round. Here are the other headlines for your Sunday afternoon:

Tyler Speaks Out Against Draw

Ashley Tyler has to face Carmichael Brown for the second tournament running in the first round. He spoke to Post reporters this morning from Stuartown, saying "I think this is their way of forcing a rivalry with me and Carmichael. I look forward to the many times we will face each other, but I would rather it not be in the first round every time."

Tomlinson Prepares Smithers for Cosby

Fred Smithers has been drawn against the same opponent Nate Tomlinson was in the last tournament. Tomlinson has been reportedly preparing Smithers for Cosby's wicked serve and lateral quickness.

Zainers Refuse Parade For Semifinal Performance

Will and Dan Zainer have refused a parade in their honor offered by President Frank Destro and the Walamzian Congress. Speaking to reporters in Stuartown this morning, they have broken their silence on why they refused the parade: "Because we did not win the tournament, and because of the way in which we lost the semifinal, we felt that we did not deserve a parade of honor." The response has been looked on favorably by the Walamzian people.

Scene: Train ride from Stuartown to Costa de Ouro.

NT: Ready for the biggest bitch in tennis?
FS: I guess. Thanks for helping me prepare. Will we have any way of preparing for this tournament at the hotel?
NT: We should. I hear Greg's flopping again.
FS: He's struggling with the abruptness of this tournament.
NT: That's strange. I thought I coached it out of him 2 years ago.
FS: Apparently, you didn't.
NT: Well, we'll get there as he's ready to leave, so let's drop it.

[phone call]

AT: Dad, just wanted to call you and wish you a happy birthday.
MT: Thanks, Ash. How are you holding up with all the travel you've had to do?
AT: I'm fine. Everyone here's been very helpful.
MT: I'm glad. How's Nate getting over his shocking performance?
AT: He's fine. I'm just trying to avoid him as I talk to you right now. You know how the media are.
MT: I understand. Well, thanks for calling.
AT: No problem, Dad. Happy birthday again.
MT: Thanks.

O'Malley Eliminated; Carlin and Smith One Match to Go

Despite doing all he needed to do, Greg O'Malley won today against Viktoria Arthursson and still got eliminated due to his inability to win in his 2nd group match. He spoke to our tennis insider Jake Peters immediately following his match:

JP: Greg, tough break.
GOM: Erm... this is not a big deal. I guess if I don't perform, people ill start calling for Waltrip to replace me in another tournament. It's not going to happen, so you can stop trying.
JP: Well, obviously you're angry about having to qualify from yet another group.
GOM: Tell me something I don't know.
JP: President Igor (WTF president) has already spoken to me about you recently. What do you have to say about that?
GOM: Seriously... he should keep his trap shut. I don't know if he ever participated in a tournament himself.

----------------------------------

JP: Rob and Jeff, just one match away.
RC: We'll finish the job this time. We'll join the Zainers in the next round, I'm sure.
JP: Other than the Zainers, who do you want to face in the next round?
JS: We don't care, really. We just want to play tennis more.

NETV SPORTS STUDIOS
BURGUNDEN, ZU, NE

Jacqueline walked by as he sat reviewing his notes at his desk in the main room. She was the Associate Producer for NETV Sports 19 Update and the key force to getting them on the air every night and looking and talking sharp.
"Dom, you have a call on line 4."

"I do? Did they say who..."

"I dunno. No. Keep it short. We need you in makeup and we'll be on in twenty."

"Right. I understand." He dropped his notes and picked up the phone, pushing the blinking line 4 button as he cradled it.

"This is Dom. Who am I speaking to?"

"Your worst nightmare!"

"I'm sorry. Who is this again?"

"It's me ya shitbag! Paul."

"Quiront?"

"No, Pope Paul. Ya, seriously come on! Yer shittin' me, right? Ya don't recognizhh ma voice?"

"Ma Deuce. I do now. To what do I owe this pleasure, Paul?"

"Pleasure for me maybe. I just wanted to rub yer nose in it."

"In...what? That you're doing well? The Quiken match?"

"Yeah Briton hozer! Don't it just burn ya up? Ya must be hatin' this, Dom. Traitor."

"All the NETC players are doing pretty well right now, with a few exceptions, Paul. I think you overestimate how much I care about your antics. I'm glad that we're having a good showing there in Costa de Ouro, and that's what our Update tonight is going to reflect. I'm happy for us. For Neu Engollon."

"You sure have had enough to shay 'bout my 'antics' before. What's changed?"

"Listen, Paul...have you been drinking?"

"I've had a few. That'sh not the point..."

"If you could wait a minute, we could get a recorder hooked up...Maybe do an interview that I could air later?"
He had already pushed the record button a minute ago, that was built in to all the station phones, for instances just like this.

"Ya,...you...You'd just love that wouldn't ya?"

"Yes. I think we could make it pretty good. Maybe change some attitudes about you."

Jacqueline walked up, thumbing to the back prep area. "Now! Makeup. Get yer suit on. Who the hell are you talking to, anyway?"

Dom Toglani put his hand over the receiver. "It's Paul Quiront. He's drunk and heckling me...Or he thinks he is...I'm not too sure..."

"Crap! Really? Well, we don't have time, either way. Tell him to down some more and call back and we could record it after the broadcast."

"I'm trying..."

The phone buzzed with a tiny, angry voice.
"Cozzficker!? You still there? Who ya talkin' to?! Dammit! I'm Paul Quiront and I'm talking to you, Dom!"

"Yes, I'm here, Paul. Sorry, I need to go. I'm on the air soon."

"Yer...yer not gonna say anything bout this, are you, Dom? That I called."

"Uh...The cat's out of the bag, Paul. I'm a journalist, remember? You need to tell me off the record, and even then..."

"Yer...mean. Bein' mean. I called you. I am winning. I'm the winnershzzzqwzk...*SNORT*!"

"Paul? You there? You fading on me? Listen stay away from Marla and Danjiella tonight, accorzu? Leave 'em alone."

Suddenly it was a quiet voice.
"They don't let me near them, Dom. I can't talk to anyone. I'm all alone here. That's...that's why I called you." It came out almost like a sob.

"Oh...I...oh....Paul, can you call back later? We can talk then."

"I waszh never here."
CLICK.

Dom looked puzzled at the phone then hung it up. He knew this was gold, but he wasn't a tabloid show anchor. This was a real sports news update show. He had doubts about using the recording.

"Dom! For fucks sake! We don't even have time for makeup now. Quick powder, get ready! You're on in five!" Jacqueline looked about to turn purple.

"Ya! ya. Sorry. On my way."
He stood up and went towards makeup, where he would get a paper bib thrown on and a quick dusting and touch up. His blazer would be hanging on the back of the door, ready to go. He took one last glance at the phone, then ducked through the door.

Carlin and Smith Qualify for Doubles Tournament

Rob Carlin and Jeff Smith have made easy work of their qualifying group, going a perfect 3-0 in their group. They await the draw of the doubles tournament, which will reportedly take place later tonight. Here are your other Monday evening rush headlines:

Waltrip Speaks Out Again

Edgar Waltrip has publicly accosted Greg O'Malley on his way back to Walamzia from the tournament. O'Malley has suffered some serious bruising on his right arm, near the elbow joint. He is expected to be out for the next month. Waltrip said, "I hope that injury ends his tennis career. He's an embarrassment to Walamzian tennis, and the only thing he's ever won was the opportunity to get tutored by Nate Tomlinson in 2012... and even Nate didn't reward him with that victory prize."

Tomlinson Signs 3-Year Deal

According to our liaison with the Walamzian Prophet, the Wizarding newspaper of Walamzia, Nate Tomlinson has put pen to paper to a 3-year, $90k contract with Walamzian Quidditch League team Stuartown Pixies. He will be asked to report to training camp immediately following the Santa Maria Open. His contract stipulates that after the 2015 Astyrian Series, he will be allowed to participate only in Tier 1 and Slam tennis events, including the World Tennis Finals, should he qualify.

UPDATE: Tomlinson signed with the Pixies, but it looks like he actually negotiated the contract with the Tyne River Miners. Tomlinson's discovery rights had belonged to the Pixies due to him never living in the catchment area of a WQL team, even though according to our liaison he played for a U9 team in Rottington. The Miners acquired his rights in a trade that sent Andrew Franken to the Miners in exchange for cash considerations. According to some wizards we could find, they knew that Tomlinson was going to Tyne River, and some Tyne River citizens have prepared a banner for him as soon as he arrives after his victory or elimination from this tennis tournament.

No Room for Double
Albergaria

With the last result coming out, it is settled that Pemecutan didn't added another player to the Main Draw. Although Double Ilham Nugraha/Jayadi Ahmad won their last match but it is unable to make them passed as they sitting in the second place of their Group under Rob Carlin/Jeff Smith of Walamzia.

The Main Round of BCA Open Albergaria will be played by 3 Pemecutanian players, 2 in Single Competition and 1 in Double. It is the most main round players by Pemecutanian so far (also in Antillia Masters). The 2 Singles are Dewa Putu Adrian Putra and Maria Sophia Lubis who reach Main Round as a Qualifier. It is the best achievement by both players. While Antillia's single Kadek Adi Wiranatha failed to qualify as he finished second in his Group, marking a big upset for him.

On the other hand, Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati is automatically qualified to the Main Round of the tournament. Marking the second Pemecutanian player to do so after Ngurah Putra Muliawan at Cadenzan Clay Trophy. It is also the third consecutive Main Round performance by the double after previous performances at Griffencrest Paradise City Open and Antillia Masters (both through Qualification). They also dubbed as the most successfull Pemecutanian double so far.

In the Main Round, Dewa Putu Adrian Putra will meet Deanne Smith of Electrum while Maria Sophia Lubis will be played against 6th seeded, Elizabeth Hines of United States Devonta. And Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati have to face 1st seeded, Elia Xal/Fia Xal of Ceni.

BCA Open Albergaria - Preview
Hopefully not many surprises should be in store at Albergaria, the fourth tournament in the Astyrian Series. First, before the preview, a little history. The BCA Challenge last took place in Albergaria nearly a year ago, with Ardil Navsal emerging as the first champion. Dustin Willenger of Super-Llamaland was the runner-up, while Andre Pedrinho Delgado and Brett Roley were the semifinalists.

However, Navsal will not be competing this time around, citing neck and pack pain as well as fatigue. However, home favorites Aline Luiza Romao (a quarterfinalist at the last event, although that might not count for much, as there were only 16 players) and semifinalist Andre Pedrinho Delgado are both competing, as the first and second seeds, respectively. 18-year-old Lonus Varalin is the third seed, and Botack Andiam entered at the last minute as a replacement for Navsal. The top four seeds have a bye; Johmer Vales, recent semifinalist in Cadenza; Elizabeth Hines of Devonta; Natalia Boruc of the Qockeackian Isles (please pardon the dreadful spelling!); and Dusan Ivanovic of the host country round out the seeds.

In the doubles tournament, world no.2 pair Elia and Fia Xal will be embarking on a quest to make up lost ground to the Electrumite pair of Sonya Gredello and Rosa Levinsky. If you ask the Electrumites, it's a lost cause; if you ask Elia and Fia, they're sure they can do it. (Cenian Public Radio will run an interview with them tomorrow at 9:40 Cenian Standard Time. Make sure you catch it.) Fellow Cenians and last-minute replacements Ellela Thotan and Ciache Nagya are seeded second; Katia Katrina and Joel Maetins, semifinalists in Hamilton last year, are seeded third; Romao and Delgado of the host country are the last seeds.

LTA Matrix's tennis analysts have their eyes on a couple of players and teams. Andy Amada, the 16-year-old born to Racaoan parents, reached the quarterfinals of the Cadenzan Clay Trophy; his draw looks pretty similar here to his draw in Cadenza, with seeded Elizabeth Hines, whom he beat, and Lonus Varalin in his way before the quarterfinals; he will face Delgado of Costa de Ouro if he reaches the semifinals. It's entirely possible that he could make it this far.

Another match to watch is the match between Carmichael Brown of Electrum and Ashley Tyler of Walamzia. They played each other in the first round of Cadenza, with Tyler winning two tightly fought sets, 6-4, 6-4, only to lose to the top seed in two. He faces the prospect of this happening yet another time: beating Brown only to face the first seed, again. It must be painful for Tyler.

In the doubles event, hopefully Xal and Xal will make up 500 desperately needed points (but apparently not desperately needed enough for the Xal sisters to make the trip to any other Tier 2 events; rumor has it that the Xals were paid a hefty appearance fee.); hopefully Ciache Nagya and Ellela Thotan can break into the top 10 again with a good performance. Eyes are on the Zainer twins from Walamzia for their semifinal showing in Cadenza; however, they do face the Xal sisters in the quarterfinals.

With foreign publications predicting a win in both events by "the usual suspects", i.e. us Cenians and players from the host nation, Cenians might have a tide of resentment for their domination of the international tennis scene. However, once they realize how entrenched tennis is as a Cenian sports, they will probably realize why Ceni produces such good tennis players. They have commitment, energy, and good play. Hopefully Ceni will remain at the top of the tennis world; if not, at least they will give it their best fight.

Walking through the grounds
Admiring all the statues
What a pretty place

Looking at flowers
Violets, yellows, greens, blues
Natural beauty

Fountains with water
Pouring out and bubbling out
Flowing all around them

Birds chirping sweet sounds
Singing their music for us
Songs and melodies

Confederate interest in the sport of tennis had begun to wane some bit after their lackluster performance in their own tournament in Paradise City, but slowly it was starting to be rekindled as Lucretia Talltree and Maria Redstone began to fight their way back to the list of main competitors in the tournament. Initially, they were almost entirely overlooked by the Confederate press, having performed poorly early on in Paradise City and not quite gathering the early fanbase as some of the others, especially those in the singles. Now, however, Confederate sports fans were starting to follow them in increasing numbers, and it was starting to look more and more like these two women were about to become the darlings of the Blackhelm Confederacy.

Earth had no music
Birds did not sing
Brooks did not babble
This doesn’t mean that music did not exist

High in the heavens
Musicians of every sort
Filled the air with dazzling notes

Earth can’t sing its joy without music
The silence bothered Quetzalcoatl

Smoking Mirror envied this music
Earth is incomplete
He realized the importance of music

Silent Earth
Earth can’t sing its joy without music
The silence bothered Quetzalcoatl

Earth can’t sing its joy without music
The silence bothered Quetzalcoatl

The glorious music
Earth can’t sing its joy without music

Musicians who are able to spread music
Taught the birds to sing
The brooks to babble
And the people
To make music of their very own

Earth
The glorious music
The importance of music

Tamaa was the king of a Zulu village called Kijiji. The people of his town were poor and desperate. They lived in ramshackle huts with roofs of straw that easily got wet when it rained. On the other hand, Tamaa was wealthy. His house had leather skins for a roof and wood walls.

One day, a drought struck the village. People began to eat the meager stores that they had saved for this purpose. The first day of the drought, the people of the village decided to ration out their stores so that everybody would have enough, but they only had enough stores to feed the 2,048 people of the village for 3 days.

Each day, the villagers petitioned Tamaa to open the palace granary, but he refused each and every day. He had his own menagerie of horses, sheep, and on top of that, his own family to feed. An old man named Nzuri was known for his generosity. The villagers went to him and he agreed to give some of his stockpile of food to the villagers so they would have enough to eat.

Consequently, the villagers were grateful to Nzuri, but they didn’t know how they could ever repay him. Nzuri refused all offers of leopard skins, gold, and other invaluable possessions. Tamaa saw this from his palace, and he did not like it. To further worsen the situation, he demanded a tax of 10% of all grain.

As a result, the villagers sent and envoy named Mjumbe to negotiate on the villagers’ behalf. Mjumbe saw the bulging royal granary and decided to do something. After fruitlessly negotiating with the king, he went back to the village to from a plan. A villager named Majanja volunteered do make a distraction. Mwashi made a ladder. Makali and Jasiri would break into the royal granary and grab food.

On the night of the break in, all was ready. Majanja and a crowd of villagers yelled and screamed to distract the guards, and they fell for it. While the guards were putting down the crowd, Makali and Jasiri broke into the granary. They grabbed thousands of bushels of grain to feed the villagers. When the grain reached the village granary, the villagers rejoiced.

Silently, the god of thunder, Nguromo, and the chief god, Mkuu Mungu, had been watching the whole escapade. They decided to descend down to Earth to put things right. The gods disguised themselves as villagers from another village and arrived in Kijiji. At the daily rationing, Nzuri gave them a little extra because they were hungry. He demanded no retribution for the food. Nguromo said to Mkuu Mungu, “We should reward this man.” Mkuu Mungu concurred. Other villagers provided the gods with shelter and clothing, free of charge.

The next day, Nguromo and Mkuu Mungu visited Tamaa and saw that he had been hoarding the grain and not giving any to the villagers. They were mad at the king for his greed.

When the villagers told the gods about the courageous retrieval of the grain, Nguromo took pity on the starving villagers. Nguromo caused a rain storm to sweep throughout the land. The villagers were grateful to the rain god and gave his temple many gifts. Pleased by this, he granted the villagers stores of grain.

He was not so pleased with Tamaa, however. The thunderstorms ruined Tamaa’s palace. Tamaa perished in the storm, along with the menagerie of horses, goats and sheep.

The villagers were spared from the storm. The villagers who were generous to the gods received bonuses of gold and seeds. Nzuri got an extra large bonus. The villagers now knew to be generous to anyone who has less fortune than they did.

This is your cutoff.

The double lost easily from Ceni's double with only 2 sets. Antari/Andreawati didn't improve much of their played after being pushed down by The Xal Sisters.
"It really sad to go home early but it is a very great match and we learn so much from the expert," says Kadek Andreawati.

Tyler Eliminated; Rest Go On

Ashley Tyler lost to Aline Luiza Romao of Costa da Ouro in the Round of 16 of the BCA Open Albergaria. Tyler spoke of deep regret of not living up to his seeding in the tournament by losing to someone he felt he should've beat. Our biggest disappointment in him is not living up to expectation and rolling over like how he did.

In more happy news, Nate Tomlinson defeated Sven Anders after going down in the first set. Nate spoke of a big challenge keeping his mind on tennis, but he says that it's now easier because he now has a source of guaranteed income that isn't dependent on how he does. He recently signed a 3-year, $90k deal with the Tyne River Miners of the Walamzian Quidditch League. He faces #2-ranked Andre Predinho Delgado

Fred Smithers dispatched of Botack Andiam of Ceni. Fred found this match slightly harder than the match against Joanna Cosby, but that the match against Cosby prepared him well for the match against Andiam. He will now face Johmer Vales in the quarterfinals.

The Zainers defeated the Soares's, but it wasn't easy for the semifinalists of the Cadenza Clay Trophy. They were challenged not to sit on their laurels and continue to challenge themselves. They will face the #1-seeded Xals in the quarterfinals.

Finally, Rob Carlin and Jeff Smith defeated the wildcard team of Amancio Raimundo Belo and Natalia Emilia Garcia. They are really starting to find their groove in these tennis tournaments, and they feel ready to take the mantle from the Zainers, should they feel the need to drop it. They will face Ellela Thotan and Ciache Nagya of Ceni in the next round.

BCA Open Albergaria - Digest
At the BCA Open Albergaria, one of the more lucrative events in the Astyrian Series (behind the Antillia Masters and the Fresko Royal Nikolian Open), tennis players have recorded one of the best quarterfinals for newcomer nations in the ATP tour's history, with 3 Cenians, 2 Costeños, 2 Walamzians, and one Pemecutan citizen. Previously, the Paradise City Open recorded one of the more diverse quarterfinals in the history, with competitors from 6 nations represented.

In Albergaria, Johmer Vales hopes to reach his second semifinal of the season (after his semifinal showing in Cadenza). However, he has a challenge in the name of Fred Smithers, who reached the quarterfinals in Cadenza as a qualifier, losing to eventual champion Amancio Raimundo Belo. At this tournament, he has shown his progress by beating no. 4 seed Botack Andiam in two sets. Walamzian players have shown an upswing on the tour; Nate Tomlinson of Walamzia is also in the quarterfinals after beating Natalia Emilia Garcia of the host nation and Sven Anders. In the other quarterfinal of the upper half, Aline Luiza Romao plays qualifier Dewa Putu Adrian Putra of Pemecutan for a spot in the semifinals. His countryman Ngurah Putra Muliawan reached the semifinals in Cadenza.

In the lower half, Andre Pedrinho Delgado faces Nate Tomlinson. There is also an all-Cenian quarterfinal between third seed Lonus Varalin and 16-year-old prodigy Andy Amada. Not only does this match mean that there will be a Cenian in the semifinals, it also means that there will be a teenager in the semifinals. "I'm extremely happy to be in this moment," Amada said. "I just wish that it was someone other than Lonus! He's a good friend." Varalin received a great boost in the rankings when he reach the quarterfinals of the Cenian Open; Amada reached the quarterfinals in Cadenza at just his second tournament.

In the doubles, Elia and Fia Xal drummed a pair from Pemecutan, obviously outplaying the hapless duo. Xal and Xal only gave up one game in each set with some magnificent net action which has become their trademarks. They next face Cadenza semifinalists Dan and Will Zainer. Meanwhile, Ellela Thotan and Ciache Nagya won over Joric Novikov and Isahiah Talis of Val Halla. After taking the first set by storm, 6-2, they struggled a little in the second set, going down by a break, but soon made it up, prevailing 7-5. "Let's keep our fingers crossed that we can win today!" In the other quarterfinals, Aline Luiza Romao and Andre Pedrinho Delgado of the host nation play Brent Wales and Tony Stark; Silva and Costa, qualifiers from Tupiaupaba, play Devontans Johnson and Lopez. Whichever wins will be a first-time semifinalist.
