Welcome to The Northern Union, Patistan, and Jeckland for World Baseball Classic 32!

Signup Thread | Rankings | Discussion Thread | Host Bid | WBC 31 Everything Thread | Guide To Sports Roleplaying | Wikipedia Article on Baseball

Yay! What do I do now?
Firstly, thank you for signing up for this tournament! The first thing you can do is post a roster. This is a list of players on your team, which other people and yourself can use when writing RPs later on. It will also earn you RP bonus. Some rosters are simply lists of players, others are a lot more detailed. If you want to see examples, check out the WBC 31 thread linked above or the rosters your fellow competitors have already posted.

Then, throughout the tournaments you may want to post roleplays, or RPs for short. These can be match reports, interviews, or something completely unrelated to baseball. Remember when you are writing that the better your RP is, the higher it will be graded by the host of your games, and the higher your chances are of winning are. That being said, your chances of winning are also affected by your rank, accumulated from previous tournaments, and Margaret, the NS Sports Goddess of Random (or the RAND part of the scorinator)

How's this going to be run?
Teams will be drawn into eight groups of six, based on the pots listed below. They will then play home and away double round robin, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the Round of 16. This will be a best of three series, with teams seeded based on their group record. Teams will not be reseeded for subsequent rounds. The final eight teams will then enter a double elimination format.

Tell me about scorination, cutoffs and stuff
Scorinating will use the latest version of the NSFS formula. This displays linescores, although you may use your own, provided that you adhere to any your opponenet has posted in an RP before you. The RP bonus system will be a degrading bonus, with each RP graded out of 1.5. However, the RP from the day before will count for half this value, the one before half of that, and so on.

The cut-off times are as follows:
Jeckland: 22:00-23:00 UTC (Groups A-C)
The Northern Union: 23:00 UTC (Groups D-E)
Patistan: 16:00 UTC (Groups F-H)

Schedule
17th December: Thread opens
27th: MD1 (1v6, 2v5, 3v4)
28th: MD2 (6v4, 5v3, 1v2)
29th: MD3 (2v6, 3v1, 4v5)
30th: MD4 (6v5, 1v4, 2v3)
31st: MD5 (3v6, 4v2, 5v1)
1st January 2015: Off Day
2nd - 6th: MD6-10 (Fixtures reverse of MD1 to 5
7th: Off Day
8th to 10th: Round of 16
11th to 13th: Quarter-Finals
14th to 16th: Semi-Finals
17th to 21st: Final and 3PPO

If all matches are completed in a knockout round without the need for a third day, this schedule will be pushed forward a day (ie: there will be no break days from the end of the group stage onwards.

Patistan

Weather

Patistan in general is a country which isnt that cold or that hot,Tachi is a city where it can sometimes get intensely hot during the summers but when November and December come you should pack some scarfs and sweaters up, the temperature can easily turn to single digits in the night. Fujranwala is the coldest of the host cities, where at this time around it can easily go below freezing, although the stadiums in Fujranwala will have a warming system we advise that you get some layers on, also at this time of year Fujranwala can get very foggy. Tahore on the other hand is the most extreme host city, where in the summers you cannot go out unless you are in a air conditioned vehicle, while in the winter Tahore can be extremely cold and surprisingly wet. If you do want to come here we advise that you bring an umbrella with you.

Transportation

Public transportation is a must for cities like Tachi and Tahore. Tachi has a subway system and a bus system which works around the clock. Tachi also has a fair number of cabs but most of the populous uses buses instead due to low fares as compared to cabs. Tahore also like Tachi has a subway system, which is very efficient and ranked the best in the country. A bus system is also in place but unlike the Tachi bus system this one is slightly disorganized and chaotic, so if your visiting Tahore we advise you to take the subway system. Fujranwala as being in a hilly landscape could not have a subway system. The bus system was suspended and is currently being organized so for the competition only cabs will be the means of transport. If you are looking to come here from abroad we can happily tell you that Tachi and Tahore have very good functioning airports. The city of Fujranwala also does have a airport but due to fog most flights are delayed.

Language

Patistan has many languages spoken but the most widely spoken language is English so don't worry if your players get lost, our people will surely help them. After English comes Punjabi and then Urdu. Punjabi is the most spoken language in the city of Fujranwala, while Urdu is largely spoken in Tahore. You might also hear the Kulati language, which is spoken by natives of Patistan. Although not a majority most natives of Patistan reside in Tachi. If the people of your country or your players cannot speak English then brochures shall be handed out to then which helps them learn the basics of Urdu.

Money

Patistan's currency is the Tukee. A sustainable amount of money shall be given to the coaches/mangers of the team. If your just a normal citizen then you'll be happy to know that all our banks have a currency exchange system in place.

Laws

They are laws that foreign citizens and non-Muslims should worry about. Patistan is an Islamic Republic, that does not mean we have Sharia it means that we are a Islamic welfare state that takes the Quran moderately. Alcohol shall not be allowed to be consumed in an part of the country.Cannabis and other drugs shall not be allowed to be consumed either. Pork is also not to be consumed, the hotels shall give the players the choice of there meal only if it is halal. If a foreign player or citizen is found to be consuming any of these that player or citizen shall face consequences no matter what. Also you cannot be naked and play in the ground, you must have at least some amount of clothing around you at all times.

Crime

Patistan is a very very safe country, crime is nothing to be worried about around here. Due to our very hard law and order system criminals do not even try to cross us. Even though no threat is directed to anyone the Patistani government shall beef up the security around the hotels in which the players are staying. Security shall also be increased around grounds.

Food

Patistan is famous for it's spicy delicacies, once you eat our food there is no going back. Patistani chefs are famous for there Chicken Karahi, a dish which will make the taste buds dance. If you are not in to spicy things then countless variety of curries are available. If you have a sweet tooth then don't worry, our Kulfi Faluda can satisfy you. The kulfi is the Patistani alternative to a Ice lolly, but more sweet. The city of Tachi can easily supply you with fish and our skilled chefs can make that fish awesome. Fujranwala on the other hand can easily get you chicken and goat.

Stadiums and Cities

Glad you asked. They are 3 cities that shall be hosting this event,Tachi,Tahore and Fujranwala.

The grounds in Tachi are
Image

The Patistan national ground is a sensation to behold, with a capacity of 95,000 this mammoth of a ground can give you a perfect view of the play from anywhere. This is also the ground where the national team practices.

Image

One of the more mediocre grounds, the ground will be the home stadium of the Tachi Wizards in the new PBL.

The ones in Tahore are

Despite the small size, this ground is to be the most sophisticated of them all.

Image

The largest ground in Tahore, and the alternative to the Patistan national ground. Will host Tahore Tornadoes in the PBL.

The Ones in Fujranwala are

This ground was built for the 7th edition of the IBS which was hosted by Patistan, the second ground to be built in the small city.

This was the first ground built outside of Tachi and Tahore. This is where the Fujranwala Jackrabbits will play in the PBL.

We hope you enjoy your stay in Patistan

THE NORTHERN UNION

Where in the World is the Northern Union?

Image

Stadium Sites listed in white

The Northern Union is a political union of the Kingdom of Vjaalsbürg, The Arendellenske Republic, the Hakifao Federation, and a few scattered, independent isles in the north and south, known as Landsbyensvæði and South Visandia, respectively. Recently formed in the merger of Vjaalsbürg and the former Arendellenske Union, the new nation, located a few hundred miles north of Super-Llamaland, looks to gain international fame and power, starting with their hosting of the thirty-second World Baseball Classic.

HISTORY

How anyone managed to make it onto the Northern Isles nobody knows, but most theorize it must've been a prehistoric Polarian ancestor who made the journey. Still, by the early ADs, the Pre-Christianized colonization of the isles was in full swing, and from the fertile plains of Vjaalsbürg, the Vjaals began to spread out throughout most of Vjaalsbürg, hopping the channel to spread across central and southern Arøndeshölm. From there they spread north, and by 350 AD the isles were entirely populated. The new villages in Hakifao and north Arøndeshölm required immense trade just to keep from starving, and by the time they'd managed to become self-sufficient, an immense fleet of trading ships, meant for the stormy waters between Arelsborg (nearby modern-day Öslerholm) and Ulselsheim, had already been built up.

Still, these fleets, a potential path to world-wide riches, were mostly used by the nations of the north in battle against each other. By 800 AD, the Three Kingdoms of Nojais (south Vjaalsbürg and all of the Visand), Vjaalsbürg (which reached across the channel to expand across all of south Arøndeshölm), and Arøndel (north Arøndeshölm and all of Hakifao) had reached across all of the Northern Isles, and a slow succession of wars between the three nations, with no alliance lasting more than thirty years, began. Out of the cataclysmic war rose the great military leader, Herlek of Sudeynsheim, born in 1007. Under Herlek, the Vjaal Kingdom destroyed the Nojais Kingdom and forced its way into all of central and south Arøndeshölm before his death caused the empire to weaken, and, in 1288, crumble.

Yet still, the merchant ships had been used to keep Nojais and Arøndel from revolt, and not to spread outwards to the south. Finally, in 1344, cunning diplomats forged the Versålölm Concord, and the warring kingdoms of Nojais, Arøndel, and Vjaalbürg agreed to peace. It was a groundbreaking proclamation, and immediately the three nations began to spread outwards.

Fast-forward to 1635, and the three nations, now in a political union known as the Northern Commonwealth, had founded the colony on Dinschria, in modern-day Super-Llamaland. While fighting in the Llamanean Colonization Wars with Eirelia and Tree Death, the first signs of trouble began to appear in the three-hundred-year-old Concord. In 1643, after decades of political unrest, Nojais disintegrated into the kingdoms of Søde, North Nojaiseshølm, and Visåndia. Vjaalsbürg attempted to break the concord and invade Visåndia, but Arøndel managed to stop them and re-annex all land west of the Great Channel.

A strange equilibrium passed, with Vjaalsbürg slowly retreating to mean the politically fragmented kingdoms east of the Great Channel and itself fracturing into West and East Vjaalsbürg. Arøndel entered its glory age, but it was not to come - soon, democratic uprisings across the isles turned Arøndel into a fully recognized independent republic by 1800. The Republic slowly destroyed the kingdom, and by 1890 had spread out to their old borders, fully eliminating the Arendellenske monarchy.

Vjaalsbürg by now had managed to re-unify under King Alessandr I, and the two nations once again began to fight over borders. In 1945, Hakifao seceded from Arøndell as a democratic nation, while by the same time Vjaalsbürg liberalized and became more democratic, although they alone kept the monarchy. Slowly the region entered another era of prosperity.

Whereupon the Llamanean Empire struck from the south and slowly conquered all of them. By their re-independence in 1979, the region was economically shattered. By 1999, rebuilding was still in full swing when the Arendellenske Union was formed, and slowly it came to control all of the North.

LANGUAGE

The Northern Union's official language is Arendellenske, and most of its other languages are close cousins. Much of Arøndeshölm and Hakifao, and some of Vjaalsbürg, is fluent in it. Hakifao, once a common language in the north, is now slowly declining in popularity, and Visåndian, once common in south Vjaalsbürg and the Archipelago, is nearly defunct. Northerners are encouraged to be multilingual, and as such languages such as Llamanean English have swelled in popularity.

No matter where you go, there should be somebody who speaks English - and if not, such as in some parts of Hakifao and northern Arøndelshölm, translators should be common and affordable enough.

RELIGION

Formerly, the Northern Union's constituent states were generally a mixture of believers in Arendellenske Norse Mythology and Protestant Christianity, but nowadays believers are becoming slightly rarer to find. While a mixture of old mythologies before the Christianization of the islands still persists in a small minority of Arendellenske households, and a larger minority practices Christianity, the nation is generally considered non-religious, with 72% identifying as such (39% atheist, 21% agnostic, 12% other). 23% of the nation's population practices Christianity, while the small remainder tends to be full of believers in Arendellenske, Vjaal, and Hakifao Norse Mythology, all with a slight variance from the other.

Everything is OK, but note that we don't have designated hitters. Assume all players are right handed in both pitch and bat.

# - Those with that sign next to their name are from the former island of Jeckish Chicken Connoisseurs, or Cocoa Island. The others are from Coconut Island, but now the two have formed a federation.

Stadium:

Due to the destruction of Lord Almighty Gregory Baseball Stadium by Wolfopian terrorists (OOC: actually a Gregoryisgodistani false flag), all home games will be played at Pervert Chaser NAUSJW Ballpark, formerly known as Covello Field, located in District 27, about half a mile from Covello Bay. It was renamed prior to the IBS to honor former pitching coach and pitcher Pervert Chaser NAUSJW who was arrested in New Wolfopolis during the World Baseball Classic for performing his job, castrating and dickapitating Mount Tamobet players competing in the nude. He is currently in Wolfopian prison. The arrest of Pervert Chaser NAUSJW led to Gregoryisgodistan adding New Wolfopolis to the Enemy List, which according to the Gregoryisgodistani government was the impetus for the terrorist attack.

Pervert Chaser NAUSJW Ballpark seats 4,000 fans. Beyond the fence is a small patch of woods. Beyond that are some luxury houses, and beyond that is Covello Bay and the District 27 Marina, where the wealthy dock their personal yachts. The marina also has space for foreign ships to dock. It can hold fairly large ships. Ships with capacities up to 50 people should be able to dock there, possibly more if they are small enough. The marina area is off limits to Gregoryisgodistani commoners, who will be executed if they trespass, but foreigners do not need to worry about that provided they have their papers. Teams can either fly into Lord Almighty Gregory National Airport in the Capital District and travel approximately 600 miles by bus or travel by boat, dock at the marina, and rent a bus to drive about a mile to the stadium. (Walking from the marina is also possible.) Teams traveling by boat should inform the Gregoryisgodistani government as soon as possible so that customs can meet them there and space can be made for their boat. Please include the number of people traveling with you.

RP:

Choose my Lineup No - follow what was posted.
Choose my Runscorers Yes
RP Injuries Yes, one per game.
Godmod Injuries Yes, but note the above restriction.
Follow my Rotation: Yes
Eject my players: Yes, one per game unless you eject a commensurate number of yours. For instance, you can eject three of my players if you eject two of yours. This includes coaches, who can be ejected but count towards the limit. An exception is that you can eject both my manager and my pitcher for throwing at a batter after a warning (as the rules say should happen) and this counts as one ejection.
Godmod other events: Yes, do anything except kill Lord Almighty Gregory, our head of state and official deity. Failed assassinations and fake assassinations using prop heads are fine. However, expect reciprocation. If you kill one of my players, that's fine, but I'm going to kill one of yours. If you don't TG me first to ask which one I'd be ok with killing, I won't TG you first, I'll just kill one, though if you kill a bench player I would kill one of your bench players, not a starter. I will do this WITHOUT CHECKING YOUR RP PERMISSIONS because it is far too complicated to figure out whether we'd both be in violation of each other's RP permissions or whether you made an exception, meaning we're both fine.
Other: If you do an RP involving my country, but do not mention it by name ("Gregoryisgodistan" without any formatting in the middle of the word such as striking "isgod" to make Gregoryisgodistan) TG me to give me a heads up. You do not need to wait for permission, and there is a chance I won't bother to reply. I frequently search for mentions of my nation so I can reply to RP's, but if you don't mention it by name, I can't do that. If for whatever IC reason you refer to my country by some other name (Gregoryisgodistan, Gregoryistan, Gregoryisnotgodistan, "that country with a name so blasphemous I cannot speak it" etc.) that is fine but either mention my country by name in an OOC note or TG me.
Use DH at home: Yes. But we're using official MLB rules, not international rules, so if you have a starting pitcher who is a good hitter, you may bat him instead of a DH, but then you lose your right to a DH for the remainder of the game even if you go to the bullpen.
Gregoryisgodistan, population 75,000,000. All citizens are required to worship Lord Almighty Gregory, our head of state, as a deity.

Other Notes: For information on the Equestrian States, please refer to the WBC 25 Visitors’ Guide first, then TG me if you have any further questions. Additionally, if you wish to do something that is either not listed as allowed in my RP permissions or really out of the ordinary, I require that you ask me (via TG) at least two hours prior to RP cutoff so my own post can account for the unusual event. Failure to send a TG in time will likely result in your request being turned down as I will probably have already begun work on my own RP.

ABANHFLEFT REVOLUTION
Abanhfleft men's national baseball team

The Abanhfleft Revolution campaign in the 7th International Baseball Slam in Patistan was for all intents and purposes a forgettable one, and it would be prudent not to mention anything about the Round of 16 in the aforementioned tournament, which saw the Revolutionaries easily disposed of by the Gregoryisgodistan Bat Slaves, in a repeat of the finals of International Baseball Slam VI in Noburu Taiyou. The Abanhfleft Baseball Federation has decided that some changes in management is needed if this team is to prove itself on the international field, and show that its second-place qualification in IBS VI is not just some fluke of randomness. The team remains mostly the same from the one that first stepped into the international baseball scene, but the management has been totally shaken up. Former subsitute shortstop Rehoboam Zimmermann had announced his retirement from international baseball after the defeat of Abanhfleft against Gregoryisgodistan in IBS VII, and he is now the new national team manager, replacing longtime national manager Quentin Keppler.

Name of nation: Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft
Demonym: Fleftic
Team name: Abanhfleft Revolution
Nickname: Revolutionaries (common), Revolters (derogatory)
Official history: This will be Abanhfleft's second time participating in the World Baseball Classic.
Team colors: Blue, orange, and green
Style modifier: +3.5. Abanhfleft has now adopted an even more attacking strategy following Rehoboam Zimmermann's promotion to national team manager.

The entire coaching staff of the Abanhfleft Revolution had been sacked by the Abanhfleft Baseball Federation following the team's failure to qualify in IBS VII. Rehoboam Zimmermann, longtime member of the national team, had been tapped as the new manager following his retirement from international baseball, and he had been given free reign to recruit any other staff member that he believed capable of bringing back some glory to this now-mocked national side. This is also an opportunity for Zimmermann to steal some thunder from the football players that had considerably stolen a lot of baseball's thunder in the Democratic Republic.

Overview

The Tigers began at the twenty-third World Baseball Classic, held in Qazox, not looking to do that well. To their surprise, they performed quite well after all, winning six and losing a mere four to place third, only behind co-debutants Maklohi Vai on tiebreakers. This pattern of "really quite well, but not quite well enough" continued under manager Thomas Yaft, as a 5-5 record and fourth-place finish in Lycrabon at WBC 24 and a 5-5 record and third-place finish by virtue of the second tiebreaker, H2H RD, which put them behind Skeckoa by three runs and led to minor controversy in Equestrian States for WBC 25.

They finally broke through at Cassadaigua for WBC 26, with a last-day victory Allinlia giving them a 6-4 record and sealing their path through to the Promised Land of the playoffs for the first time in their now twelve-year history. But against the Phoenixes of Equestrian States, they stood no chance, as the Equestrians swept them out of the Round of 24 two games to none.

After this, the nation founded the International Baseball Slam, but at IBS I and II, they found only middling success, placing fourth and sixth in a field of eight nations.

At WBC 27, they bested the same Phoenixes to go six and two in Maklohi Vai and Saintland and clinched a spot in the Round of 16 thanks to their superior victory. But Kriegersen swept them out of the tournament, and going into WBC 28 with a fourteenth-place ranking, they still had not won more than six games in a tournament or won a playoff match. At IBS III, this troubling trend continued as Nova Anglicana swept them out of the quarterfinals despite their 5-1 record propelling the Tigers to the number-one seed.

After a 6-4 record in the WBC 28, the Tigers went through a difficult bracket to defeat Maklohi Vai, Vaugania, Nova Anglicana, and the Royal Barangay in thirteen games and found themselves world champions and world number-two. While many cried "fluke", especially after they failed to advance out of the group stage at IBS IV, they continued to charge through the playoffs of the WBC, this time beating Feministvs Sanctvsterra, Ko-oren, and Cassadaigua, all good teams, before playing The Royal Barangay with revenge, the world number-one ranking, the world crown, and for the Tigers, a chance to become the fourth team to defend their crown. The Royal Barangay took the series lead twice, but each time the Tigers responded to force a deciding Game Five.

They lost, the bullpen, so reliable during the playoffs, imploding and conceding just enough runs for the Indios to wrest away the world championship. But at IBS V, Imota beat three-time champions Gregoryisgodistan in the quarterfinals, and the Tigers took advantage of the power vacuum to, after beating Nova Anglicana again in the semifinals, defeat newcomers Orennana in the championship series to take the IBS title. And after winning the bid to co-host WBC 30 with New Wolfopolis, they once again took back the WBC crown after defeating Jeckland three games to one in the finals. But after a dynamo group stage at the IBS VI, they proceeded to royally screw up their playoff pool, falling to Mammoreck and then being knocked out via a 15-2 thrashing at the hands of Imota.

And then they won thirty-nine games in a row and swept Jeckland to take WBC 31. With mediocre showings at the IBS, dynastic brilliance that has lead Imotan sportswriters to declare this the "Age of the Llama", and the nation's ascension to President of the WBC, nothing can stop this team now except for horrifyingly bad luck and also the fact that their next-in-lines aren't actually that good.

2B Alex Kirk (Age 23, #29, L/R)

Alex Kirk at twenty-three is finally a five-tool player who makes scouts salivate on a regular basis. His stats from last year tell the entire story: .329/.395/.511, 25 HR, 96 RBI, 45 doubles, 31 steals. The national team, with his club's permission, is now trying to switch his cannon-arm to shortstop, which could make him one of the best NTers of all time. Yes, better than Alex Cameron. Yes, better than Evan Masorka. He could easily play five WBCs (a sixth, if he can play at 37, and if he can play at 35, five IBSs as well), and by playing every day (Cameron played six but missed a few games), he could easily shatter a few records.

CF Megan Peterson (Age 29, #5, L/L)

Peterson is the prototypical center-fielder, with speed, defense, and contact skills. Her timing is hard to crack, but she can't deal with high fastballs nearly as well as she can breaking balls. She's also the first Llamanean female baseball player in history, after being put on the roster on July 12, 2011 and getting an at-bat in a 6-1 friendly win against Tree Death on August 8. At twenty-nine she's hit her peak, but she's maintained a high-level training regime despite a few injuries.

RF Jake Earnest (Age 32, #30, R/R)

A do-it-all outfielder, Earnest debuted controversially at WBC 28 to place fan favorite Chris Harder, exploding for 24 RBIs and an average well north of .350 to seal his spot in the order. In 2013, he added a second MVP and eighth all-star appearance to his resumé, hitting .341 with thirty-six HRs and 111 RBIs. His weaknesses have yet to be found, except for when his timing is lost late in the count through enough fastballs and breaking balls; he hits a mere .231 from the sixth pitch of an at-bat onwards. Injuries haven't been a concern for him yet, unlike Trevor Matthews, and he's still one of the world's premier hitters.

LF Eric Seymour (Age 27, #33, S/L)

Trevor Matthews, who in fourteen seasons has hit 420 home runs in the LBL, was sidelined with back spasms for the WBC to the disappointment of all, and after a few too many elbow surgeries that resulted in him hitting three home runs in fifty-two games, the legendary slugger retired. In his place is the relatively unheralded Eric Seymour. Seymour can strike out a lot, but is a 30-15 type with great plate discipline and decent contact skills, and his defense in left will be far better than that of Matthews'.

C Michael Trabajen (Age 27, #3, R/R)

It's hard to believe Trabajen is still twenty-seven with how he has matured in the past few seasons, but the catcher is still playing arguably the hardest position in the game well. His power is beginning to come consistently as well, with high-teens home runs, and with improved pitch-calling and the fact that he's still twenty-one, things are looking up. Of course, his contact skills, one of the best in the world, haven't declined either: he's hit .354 domestically since WBC 29.

[b]3B Troy Adrian (Age 26, #16, S/L)

Adrian is a master bunter who often lays one down for a single. Miraculously, he is also fantastic at going the other way, often lining 0-2 pitches into left field, meaning that third basemen often find themselves confused over where to go if Adrian is down in the count. Fantastic contact, going the other way or pulling it almost at will, and decent speed and defense, and doubles power to the gaps.

SS Aaron Baxter (Age 29, #13, R/R)

Power-hitting but injury-prone Baxter was dropped a spot in the lineup after nagging knee injuries effectively ended his 2013 season before May. He's had them repaired through surgery, but he's definitely lost a step on the base paths and on defense, where the loss of range has made him somehow even worse than before. Before a 30-30 threat, he's now closer to 30-15. Meanwhile, from a batting perspective, he can crush pitches of all sorts and his timing is impeccable, making him hard to fool with just offspeed, but he has terrible plate discipline and frequently strikes out on balls way above the zone.

1B James LaRoi (Age 30, #11, R/L)

LaRoi is a very good player, however, he doesn't really excel at anything. His stat line from 2013, projected to 162 games, tells the whole story: .293 AVG, .370 OBP, 27 HR, 94 RBI, 17 SB/19 ATM. However, he's exceptionally injury-free and consistent, although his timing is not difficult to crack.

OF Roger Harkless (Age 31, #19, R/R)

Harkless has matured into a five-tool player, only lacking patience, with a career K:BB ratio over three. The wiry outfielder's best tool is his speed, which he used to steal twenty-five bases in 2012 and another nineteen last year, but he doesn't excel at anything. He'll be the first man off the bench most nights.

HOW TO USE: All-around first guy off bench. Mostly plays center field, but left and right are acceptable as well. Hits fireballers poorly, so don't put him in against one.

OF Emily Pierce (Age 27, #24, R/L)

Megan Peterson's second cousin has ran her way onto the team. While Peterson got her way on with average and defense, Pierce is a pure speedster who could easily be (and possibly already is) the next Brett Rochester. Making her debut this year, she's on pace to steal thirty-six bases, possibly a first-year record. (Rochester, hampered by a leg injury, stole twenty-one his debut season, but a record sixty-eight the next.) Her hitting and defense is acceptable but not really good, and she cannot hit any pitch over 94 MPH.

HOW TO USE: Pinch-running and possibly as a defensive replacement. Harkless is still the first outfielder off the bench except in pinch-running scenarios. Never against high fastball pitchers. Good at getting on base, but not as good as Bryant; good at bunting, but not as good as Adrian.

UTIL: Steven Donalbain (Age 23, #48, L/R)

Info2comesoon

IF-DH (if needed) Tim Bryant (Age 28, #1, R/R)

Bryant, the seventh pick of the 2012 draft, was sent straight to the major leagues the next year and, against all odds, did well, hitting .288 with twenty-nine stolen bases and placing second in Rookie of the Year voting to teammate Alex Kirk. After not getting a single at-bat in the WBC 30, he will be similarly thrown into the fire. With poor defense and his natural positions at shortstop and second base being blocked by Aaron Baxter and Alex Kirk, he'll have to settle for the DH spot, which will utilize his unique offensive talent while avoiding the ugliness of him playing defensive.

HOW TO USE: Pinch-hitting or pinch-running early on. Best against lefties, respectable against righties. Not a good bunter.

C Derek Svensson (Age 25, #10, R/R)

A do-it-all catcher, specializes in pitch-calling, excellent framer. Decent hitter, but not the first choice to pinch-hit, unless it's against right-handed pitchers.

HOW TO USE: A sub for Trabajen or pinch-hitter against righties.

A.J. Rondout (Age 29, #23, L/L)

Rondout often sets up his out pitch, a devastating high-eighties slurve that breaks late and spins out of the strike zone, with a high-octane, 95-mph fastball. He also has developed a low-eighties changeup that often offers a confusing change of pace to the batter as he attacks the entire strike zone with all three pitches. Rondout's nasty "stuff" and his mellow personality clash, but he's a great teammate and will compete with Drew Gilson, Griffin Bailey, and Kyle Francis for the title of "The Next Evan Masorka". Now in the ace spot, Rondout needs to step up to Masorka's prodigious shadow. Can he?

Drew Gilson (Age 26, #49, R/R)

A fireballer with triple-digit fastballs and low-nineties sliders, Gilson has occasional control problems but tends to just throw the ball past you. With the changeup perpetually a year away and the curveball often leading to a home run, his reliance on hurling spherical objects could put strain on his arm and pitch count.

Brittany Hendrickson (Age 22, #14, R/R)

Hendrickson had her first international start in the deciding Game Four of the WBC 30 finals with one hour's notice, and she pitched seven shutout innings before the bullpen imploded and gave up nine runs in six innings then somehow didn't lose. Despite this, she doesn't pitch well under pressure, which is why she's in the fourth spot and therefore won't pitch often in the playoffs. Repertoire-wise, she throws a straight fastball in the low nineties, with the high-seventies curve and change her main out pitches. She thrives on throwing off a hitter's timing and throws most pitches in the lower half of the zone.

Josva Reynolds (Age 25, #22, L/L)

While most pitchers on the NT of the world number one would be expected to throw at least ninety miles an hour, Reynolds tops out at eighty-eight. His superior control and finesse, however, have made him a dominant pitcher, with late-breaking sliders, curves, cutters, and sinkers all contributing to the hitter's confusion.

Nicholas Ervine (Age 25, #44, L/L, LOOGY)

Ervine's cutter/slider combination is devastating, but his pitches are often wild and inconsistent. Against left-handed hitters, the problem is somewhat solved, but until he fixes something up, even innings with one decent right-hander can cause problems.

James Pierce (Age 24, #21, L/L, Middle Relief)

The lefty uses his out pitch, a sinker to the lower half of the strike zone, to complement his high-octane (94-97 mph) fastball. With better control, Pierce could easily become a closer, but for now he's in middle relief after graduating from specialist before he got control.

Jacob Lin (Age 29, #30, R/R, Middle Relief)

Lin, of Tree Death descent, kills with finesse and is quite good at it. With three fastballs (88-93 4-seamer, 86-87 2-seamer, 84-86 sinker) and a quality curve and changeup, Lin can mix speed and location as good as anybody. Arm troubles kept him out of the rotation and he still hasn't pitched more than seventy-five innings in a season.

Khris Romano (Age 25, #26, R/R, Setup)

You know that moment, when, say, you're gaming on some dodgy pirated MLB 2k14 copy, and the CPU pitcher throws a pitch that shows up on the haxx0r'd radar gun as 156 or something like that because it's set to kilometers, only you think the pitcher threw 156 mph? Khris Romano is like that moment personified, only his 156 also has devastating movement and a companion curve that reminds everyone of Chris Lee.

Tyler Brennaman (Age 28, #31, L/L, Setup)

Brennaman is a unique pitcher in the regard that he throws completely, near-twelve o'clock, overhand. His strange arsenal, which has lead bored and drunk sportswriters across the world to dub his mixture of pitches "Brennastein", includes a mid-80s two-seamer, a 12-6 curveball, a circle change, and an eephus.

Lars Milñao (Age 28, #24, R/R, Setup)

A fiery Solean with a sinking fastball to match, Milñao boasts an array of breaking pitches in all directions, but a lack of control often gets to him if he's panicked. Unfortunately, Milñao is also easily angered.

Imota National Baseball Team
Demonym: Imotan
Abbreviation: IMT
Nickname: Sunwings
Colors: Red and White
Home Field: Imperial Sun Dome, Mitakihara (retractable dome, seats 45,000)
Dimensions
Left Field Foul Line: 330 feet
Left Field: 355 feet
Left-Center Field: 380 feet
Center Field: 400 feet
Right-Center Field: 380 feet
Right Field: 355 feet
Right Field Foul Line: 330 feet

Uniform: White (home) or Grey (road) with "IMOTA" in red letters across the chest. Cap is solid white (home) or gray (road) with a red "I" surrounded by two red wings.

Infielders

Kantarou Futaki (R/R, M,29): A five-tooler with lightning reflexes and steely nerves who takes to the hot corner like a fish to water. A serious man who makes few errors.

Akane Isshiki (R/R, F, 25): A speedy and surprisingly powerful infielder who has decent contact but sometimes makes bone-headed errors in the field. A wily base-stealer who isn't often caught.

Shinobu Oshino (R/R, M, 30): A solid infielder with no real weaknesses. His best tool is easily his speed.

Ryouka Shimizu (S/R, F, 31): Yuzuki Shimizu's younger twin sister is fast and has a good glove and contact, but lacks power and overall has less consistency than her sister in all aspects of her game. Energetic and playful, she and Isshiki are the mood-makers of the infield.

Yuzuki Shimizu (S/R, F, 31): A meticulous and methodical middle infielder with solid fielding, speed, and contact, but not a lot of power. Has an encyclopedic knowledge of baseball theory and rarely makes mistakes, but sometimes has a hard time thinking outside the book.

Kiyoharu Sugita (R/R, M, 29): Consistently above average with all five tools, but has almost comically bad luck. Very well versed in baseball theory trivia, he styles himself the voice of reason of the infield.

Senjirou Ushiromiya (L/L, M, 38): While not as fat as the stereotype, this first baseman's lack of speed and only average fielding ability make him suited for little else. He compensates with a booming bat and uncanny contact.

Outfielders

Tsubasa Araragi (S/R, M, 30): A fast outfielder with a magnet for a glove and a cannon for an arm. Contact and power are improving, but still only average at best.

Mirai Kuriyama (L/L, F, 30): A speedy outfielder who makes good contact and rarely makes errors, but whose power and throwing arm leave a lot to be desired. Somewhat shy, she doesn't get long with Nase.

Rei Kuroki (R/R. M, 29): Very well versed in baseball theory, and has matured into a solid five-tooler since Classic 31. His only real weakness is a tendency to chase high and outside.

Saki Lilienthal (L/L, F, 34): A prideful outfielder who uses all five tools well. No-nonsense and sharp-tongued, she takes it upon herself to train rookies, holding them and herself to very high standards.

Sadaharu Takamori (L/L, M, 32): A capable outfielder who has matured into a solid five-tooler. Patient at the plate, but sometimes chokes on inside heat.

Hiroomi Nase (R/R, M, 31): A somewhat error-prone five-tooler who nonetheless excels in clutch situations. An unrepentant skirt-chaser who's developed an odd friendship (?) with Lilienthal.

Catchers

Chie Yakumo (R/R, F, 29): A solid defensive catcher whose arm makes potential base stealers think twice about trying for that bag. Decent hitting power, but contact is poor.

Seiji Futaba (R/R, M, 29): A catcher who excels defensively and has a booming bat but can't make contact to save his life. Nicknamed "The Highwayman", both for his uncanny ability to rob would-be stealers of bases and for his sub-Mendoza Line batting average.

Starting Rotation

Makoto Kikuchi (R/R, M, 34): His four-seam fastball / slider / curveball / change up repertiore combined with a keen mind for reading batters makes him a force to be reckoned with.

Sakuya Izayoi (R/R, F, 33): A two-seam fastball / curveball / slider routine combined with excellent control make Izayoi a worthy contender for the future ace spot.

Nozomi Itoshiki (L/L, F, 36): A curveball and changeup specialist who is generally reliable but sometimes falters with runners on base.

Haruki Saegusa (L/L, M, 31): His slider and curveball give southpaws fits. Not very good at mixing up his pitches.

Masayuki Minase (R/R, M 31): An off-speeder with a potent slider and a wicked curveball. Surprisingly good at the plate, with contact to rival a position player and decent power.

Bullpen

Long Relievers

Ouka Kamishiro (R/R, F, 32): Has a blazing four-seam fastball backed up by a competent slider. Has worked out the bugs in her control, but still prone to choking in high-pressure situations.

Hiroshi Shinonome (L/L, M, 31): A two-seam fastball / slider pitcher with a solid knowledge of baseball theory, but sometimes forgets to mix up his pitch placement. Excellent control.

Himeko Yaegsahi (L/L, F, 29): A two-seam fastball / slider pitcher with a good eye for placement and excellent control, which she exploits mercilessly to scare batters with inside heat.

Middle Relievers

Wakaba Saegusa (R/R, F, 28): Mainly relies on her four-seam fastball, with a still-developing curveball and change up. Solid control, but sometimes forgets to mix up her pitches.

Naoto Shinonome (R/R, M, 29): Hiroshi Shinonome's younger brother. A dependable off-speed pitcher whose curveball and slider give righties fits. Solid control.

Ryuuichi Matoi (R/R, M, 30): An eccentric fireballer with a blazing two-seam fastball and a capable slider. He talks to his glove, which he's named Chinami, and even carries on full conversations and arguments with it.

Setup

Shinobu Tsukimura (L/L, M, 41): A former starter turned LOOGY whose curveball and changeup have saved many a slim lead from threatening southpaw sluggers. As the old man of the bullpen, he takes it upon himself to teach the younger pitchers everything he knows, and fits well in the setup role.

Closer

Hikaru Shidou (L/L, M, 30): Experience has turned the brilliant but green rookie into a solid slider / curveball specialist who excels in pressure situations and rarely makes mistakes.

Starting Lineup

Lorenz Bodewig: Probably the best new position player in the Royal Baseball League, Bodewig has all five tools and the brains to use them

well. His only weakness is a lack of top level experience.

Stephen Koenig: One of just three Diegstra players currently on a professional level team. A solid five-tooler with no real weaknesses.

Stephen Meyer: Despite a decent rookie season in the top IPBL minor league, poor performances in later seasons meant his career never got

off the ground. Has a booming bat, but no other tools.

Karl Clavius: With only average speed and a sometimes iffy glove, Clavius relies on his bat and arm to earn his keep.

Nikolaus Schonheit: Another big, powerful, and slow first baseman stereotype. Will back up Meyer at first in games with no DH.

Gerald Bernstein: A mentally tough and agile third baseman with a somewhat below average throwing arm, but otherwise has all five tools.

Sylvain Hossen: A fast outfielder with a gift for sending balls far, both as a fielder and as a batter. Contact is below average.

Norbert Oberhain: A soft-spoken catcher who lets his arm and glove do the talking. Contact and power are both very weak.

Roze Lilienthal: A distant cousin of manager Tomoe Kikuchi. Good speed and contact, but not a lot of power, and prone to making bone-

headed errors.

Bench

Florian Heidemann: A well-balanced outfielder who doesn't particularly excel with any one tool.

Hans Hansel: An agile outfielder with a good arm, his glove sometimes fails spectacularly, and he can't make contact to save his life.

Korbinian Guenther: A tough corner infielder who can field almost any grounder or throw, but whose batting leaves a lot to be desired.

Mainly a defensive substitute.

Richard Eostre: An agile middle infielder who has all the tools except power. Rarely makes it past first on his own batting.

Gerald Aintree: A versatile infielder who can play any position well, but has no skill at the plate. A defensive substitute through and

through.

Peter Avary: A catcher with good contact and a fair bit of pop to his bat, but is prone to errors, especially on long outings.

Starting Rotation

Friedrich Clausehitz: A relatively stable two-seam fastball / slider pitcher. Control is above average, and he has a good mind for pitch

pacement.

Lukas Ramstein: A somewhat tempermental fireballer. His two and four-seam fastballs stun opposing hitters, but his control is below

average and he has no other pitches worth noting.

Franz Felsner: A dependable off-speeder whose slider and curveball trip up batters on both sides of the plate. Very good endurance and

control.

Conrad Hazelrink: A somewhat simple pitcher who relies almost exclusively on his cut fastball. Control is average.

Belcelica Meltman: A rookie fireballer who has a scorching four-seamer but very shaky control. Lacks the experience to mix up her pitch

placement.

Bullpen

Johannes Blendin: An aggressive fireballer who likes going inside. His two-seam fastball and slider are his main weapons.

Peter Northfield: A curveball specialist with a gift for mixing up his pitches and confusing batters. If batters get a hold of them,

though, things can go bad, fast.

David Althusser: A four-seam fastball / slider pitcher who has decent control but noticably degrades with runners on base.

Julius Beckford: Despite excellent control with his split-fingered fastball, this fireballer's slider and curveball both need serious

development.

Teppei Arima: An off-speeder who backs up an excellent slider and decent curveball with a still green four-seam fastball. Has a good mind

for pitch placement and pinpoint control.

Franz von Karma: Despite boasting a four-seam fastball that regularly hits triple digits, wretched control, especially in protracted

situations, keeps him on the bench for all but one or two batter outings. Slider is decent, but again, control is terrible.

Karl Gavin: Relies mainly on his two-seam and split-fingered fastballs. Good control, but doesn't mix up his pitches as often as he

should.

Rudolf Wilcke: A closer who likes to shut down batters with a nigh-unhittable slider / changeup combination. Curveball is still in

development.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: No
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Yes. No deaths or permanent cripplings, no more than one per game (or two if one of your players is also

Nova Anglicana WBC 32 Preview

WBC 31, while not a poor performance by any standards, could only have been considered a disappointment for the Lions. They co-hosted the event with Imota, and were widely expected to advance deep into the tournament. They finished 25-5 under the new "series" group stage format, but it was only good enough to earn the 9th seed. After sweeping old nemesis Maklohi Vai 2-0 in the Round of 24, they advanced to a matchup with the Fair Republic in the Round of 16. They defeated the Toucans in two games, winning 5-2 and 2-0, running their playoff record to 4-0 and their scoreline to 16-2. Things were looking up, as they made it to the quarterfinals, which they have reached in all five WBCs in which they have participated. Unfortunately, they ran into undefeated and eventual champions Super-Llamaland, losing 6-4 and 4-2 to end their run.

The Lions' roster is barely changed from WBC 31, with only one player's difference. Longtime long reliever/spot starter Noah Hawkins has retired and been replaced by Perry Collins, a similar lefty who will take on the long reliever role. Other than that, the team is mostly just two years older. They have plenty of veteran knowhow and aren't too old in most cases, but some of their players will be a step slower and it remains to be seen whether they will still be able to compete at the same high level expected of them. The lineup will see more changes than the overall roster, as Kareem Al-Aniz will no longer play 1B full time, but will instead be relegated to pinch-hitting and DH duties. Replacing him at 1B will be Barry Glover, though he's got a ways to go before he can replace Al-Aniz's bat. Additionally, Josh Jennings will take over at second for Chris Fletcher and inject some more speed into the lineup.

Starting Rotation (order as given)
RHP #17 Felix Murphy, 34 - team's ace getting on in age, nearly unhittable slurve
RHP #27 Justin Garcia, 35 - 4 and 2-seam fastball has lost a little but excellent slider still there, command better
LHP #36 Chris Keyes, 28 - features a 70 MPH, big, sweeping curve, has better control now than before, but has great stuff, looks have "Keyes to my heart" signs common at games
RHP #28 Nate Freeman, 29 - former top prospect had an inconsistent couple of years at big-league level, but has picked it up of late, devastating fastball/curve/change moves him into starting rotation
LHP #40 Brad Bryan, 27 - tall, slim frame with long arms, hides ball very well, nasty slider, velocity average, but great pitching instincts

Bullpen
LHP #45 Perry Collins, 30 - takes over the long relief role, great circle-change
LHP #14 Kyle Pauley, 34 - setup man, can get lefties and righties with fastball/curve/changeup
RHP #32 André Leclerc, 36 - Quebecois throws a tough frisbee slider from a sidearm slot, death to righties
LHP #50 Ellis Rhodes, 39 - LOOGY (Left-handed One Out Guy) has tricky 2-seam, circle change, bad platoon splits
RHP #56 Sebastian Lafferty, 32, - great natural stuff, has developed into solid major league reliever, not easily rattled
RHP #39 Donté Smiley, 31, - splitter one of the best in the game, just vanishes, average fastball, practical jokester
RHP #37 Danny Hauser, 26, - 98 MPH fastball helped him K 156 in 136 big league innings, also walked 59, plenty of potential, lot of room for improvement, possible spot starter, another late-inning flamethrower
RHP #23 Trent Burkhardt, 33 - wild card of the staff, has been known to hit triple digits, but the next one could be at your head (by accident)
RHP #25 Jamey Conroy, 32 - stranglehold on national-team closer role, led league in saves a year ago, hard, nasty 2-seamer from a low 3/4 slot

C #2 Josh Heckman (R/R), 34 - Heckman has great instincts behind the plate and is a tough man to strike out, is now familiar with the team, can handle any staff in the league impeccably
C #53 Lamar Ford, 26, (L/R), - Ford is no longer a rookie for the Londinium Capitols, lefty bat is his best tool, but his defense has greatly improved, good speed for catcher, loves spaghetti
C #18 Tommie Griffin, 29, (R/R), - Griffin gets Hightower's old number, big bat and big arm, poor lateral mobility, developing pitch-calling, extra pinch-hitter more than catcher

1B/DH #22 Kareem Al-Aniz (L/R), 37 - this Sunni Muslim takes Fridays off to attend prayers, big black man with a big black beard and big black bat, mashes HRs, including a league-record 501-ft bomb, club relies on him for power
3B #26 Khris Caldwell, 29, (S/R), - Caldwell is a big boy who is surprisingly agile at the hot corner, better from the right side, but respectable from the left, club had to put a clause in his contract forbidding eating contests to control his weight
2B #5 Chris Fletcher (S/R), 35 - Fletcher is a 15/15 guy with more limited range at 2B, much more patient
SS #6 Jarrod Novak (R/R), 34 - still a 20/10 guy with good arm and great range, now-veteran badly wants a championship
MI #4 Josh Jennings, 28, (R/R), - Jennings is a phenom who takes Fletcher's starting spot, blazing speed and great defense, loves to trash talk, sometimes goes too far
CI #50 Barry Glover, 30, R/R, - Glover can play either corner infield position, hits well enough to be an emergency DH, gap-to-gap power, very jolly

OF #20 Kelvin Freeman, 27, (L/R), - Freeman won MVP last year, .326/.379/.544 with 29 homers and 24 steals this year, cannon arm, improving defensive routes, ladies' man
OF #7 Lance Manning, 26, (S/L), - 5'10 speedster continues to rack up the thefts, with 54 SB this year, beats out plenty of infield hits, indiscriminate swinger, needs to take more walks, especially now that he's leadoff guy
OF #24 Tony "Flick" Barnes (R/R), 30 - Barnes has made right field his own, has good power and a sweet swing, not bad on basepaths or in the field
OF #29 Dana Jordan, 30, S/R, - shows good speed and average, ideal to form either half of a platoon or act as defensive replacement
RF #10 Leon French, 28, R/R, - poor batting average holding him back, but great power

Graig Lowman #60 (Manager)

Dante Woodward #1 (Hitting Coach)

Charley Battaglia #47 (Pitching Coach)

Claude Corbett #9 (1st Base Coach)

Freddy Snider #8 (3rd Base Coach)

Marcellus Maloney #15 (Bench Coach)

OOC: Obviously this does not reflect any OOC views. Not that you knew that.

The Furry Coconut

World Baseball Classic to commence
by Anthony Bjorn Chip Darian Edouard Ferdinand Giles Heston Ivor Jebediah Khan Lane Magnus Noel Ozzy Peyton Quinton Ricardo Sherman Tai Ulysses Vladimir Will Xander Yuri Zeb

Coconut Isle has been placed into Group E, and will have the tough mission of being one of the last two nations in the group to advance. Because it is their first time in this tournament, for some reason, they're ranking is strangely low, even though they have already played in the last International Baseball Slam, but in the eyes in the world, it's like they never played that tournament, or even played baseball as well. We hope Margaret gets lucky with her bingo numbers, because we're going to need the same luck if we're to defeat all of Ko-oren, Britonisea, Maklohi Vai, Walamzia and another nation which I can't spell, and I don't want to offend them so I'm not writing their name down.

Okay.. so my editor just told me to look it up, but now that I have, I can't go back and change it since I'm using a type writer to type this... wait this note will be there as well! Danggit.... (remember, danggit is not a swear word, but damn is, and I only wrote damn as a demonstration)

Let's get to reviewing those nations! And then we rate our chances for our humble nation. Which may or may not make it. Probably not, since this is such a high caliber group. But we'll hope.

Ko-oren
Goodness knows why someone put the hyphen there of all places. I mean, I would have known to take a syllable pause there, but anywho... It seems like they are a good team, making it to the final last time, before losing their last two games in a three game series against Vaugania. Must be tough for them, and we hope that the anxiety of losing their last few games continues here, where they will inevitably lose to us. Maybe not, but one must hope. Seeing as they are one of the four teams (including us) to include a roster, we'll just pick a few random names and say they are good. Kimio Uchiyama looks good. Aldith Ceinwen sounds good. Don't know if that it is first name last name, or last name first name, but the roster doesn't specify. No, that is definitely first name last name. Kasai Yumi sounds good.

Maklohi Vai
Maklohi Vai is the 35th ranked seed in this competition. They are a nation in Atlantian Oceania. Probably made up of a chain of islands, but we couldn't find it on their map. Their team looks to do well in the competition for unknown reasons. Their names are made up of lots of apostrophes, which we like. You can never have too much punctuation in names. In any case, Mae’ao, Arnao, Uwo and Arwai look good. I didn't choose them because they were easy to copy from the roster page. And not because they weren't all one word. Anyways, last time, they barely scraped through the finals, after a resurgent second half saw them climb up to be the worst second placer in the competition where they would lose to Nova Anglicana in two straight losses in the series format.

Britonisea
They are the twenty fifth ranked team in the competition. They seemed to have done well, barely missing out in qualifying by five wins, sitting under Estope and New Wolfopolis. Don't know much else about their team to be honest. But I think they'll do well, because they have a higher ranking, and we all know higher ranking means that they have a higher chance of winning, even if we don't know their names. It's better to imagine them as a group of faceless men, who want to steal our women and children. That will make crushing them all the more sweeter. Or not, you don't have to visualise it like that. But you know what I mean.

Walamzia
Don't know much about them either, but they are debutants. They have a stadium and a manager. That counts for something, right? Walamzia seems like a pretty nice nation, what with their unusual W and Z in their name. That's quite distinctive, and if you think about it, there aren't that many nations that have both a W and a Z in their name. I checked. Okay. I came back, there is one I know of, Zwangzug.

That nation I don't know how to spell Elykyellek
Ah yes. The final nation. And it's funny isn't it. This strange sounding nation, (it's actually pronounced El-lick-yell-ick) has the chance to put up a fight. They have a full team full of youngins. And that's why we're going to win. They're going to go into this competiton over confident, but then fall down at the first hurdle. Like a hurdler who falls down, they are slower to get back up and won't finish the race on time. It's going to be painful for us to inflict pain on them, but it will be worth it in the long run.

To be continued... tomorrow

ISports, Vol. 25, Issue 48 (WBC 32 Special)

Let's Baseball!

It’s that time again! After declining to participate in the 7th edition of the International Baseball Slam last year, the Imota Sunwings are back and determined to prove that their winning (if not quite advancing) campaign in Classic 31 was no fluke.

The past two years have been busy for Imotan baseball. With the addition of four new teams to the top league and the formal establishment of a international semi-professional league with teams in former colonies Diegstra and Yanquerica, not to mention the retirement of Empress Kagami and the ascension of Crown Princess (now Empress) Mai, it’s hard to imagine a more hectic time for baseball fans since the Revolution.

Three Heads Better Than Two?

The thirty-second edition of the World Baseball Classic brings with it an unprecedented three co-hosts. Jeckland, the runner-up of Classic 31, is teaming up with Patistan and The Northern Union in one of the most ambitious hosting bids in recent memory. Will the Cerberus hosting work, or will it descend into madness? Only time will tell.

Group Stage

The Sunwings are seeded third of six in Group C. Nova Anglicana, our co-hosts in Classic 31, and Nassau-Hessen, against whom we took four of six games last time, are above us. Unranked Thibaut, United States of Devonta, and Val Halla are gunning from below.

This is an easier group than we’ve had in a while. Despite the Hessians’ superior rank, the Sunwings have shown that they’re more than capable of beating them, taking four of six games against them in Classic 31. That said, they're still not a team to underestimate, and they'll put up one heck of a fight for that second place slot. The unranked teams are unknown variables. While their chances for actually advancing are slim, they definitely have the potential to pull off upsets on the buzz generated by their domestic news services and their sheer newbie energy.

Nova Anglicana taking the first spot is pretty much a foregone conclusion. They've got a great team, an active newswire, and a reputation to uphold. While ten wins might be a bit of a stretch, nine is definitely doable, and we'll be very surprised if they end up with fewer than eight.

The competition for the second slot is where things get interesting. Imota and Nassau-Hessen both have teams capable of taking the number two spot, and while NH has the rank, we've got the buzz. With a little bit of luck, this could be Imota's year to advance out of the group stage, but the Hessians aren't going to make it easy.

Without the benefit of rank, the unranked teams will need to rely on their fans to generate the buzz and compensate for their lack of experience. Advancement is unlikely, but one or two upset wins in the right (or wrong) places could shake up the group but good.

Conclusion

Will not being placed in a group of death lead Imota to finally advance? Perhaps. This is definitely the best shot we've had. Let's make it count!

The Patistan National Baseball Team

History of the baseball federation and the team.

Patistan burst-actually crawled onto the baseball scene when they entered WBC 29. They finished second last in there group and the then newly made Baseball federation was so ashamed that they didn't release names of the players. In WBC 30 the still un-named squad to much surprise topped there group and then the speculation started about who were these masked men...so the PBF released the info about the players....and then hell struck. Condemnations from each side came pouring in as to why the Patistani team had such absurd players who aged well above there 80's and well below there 20's. PBF ignored these condemnations and encouraged the team to play on. Sadly it was not to be...the Patistani team lost to Nova Anglicana in the R024. WBC 31 came then and the populous of Patistan actually became a little interested in baseball. The Patistani federation again named the same "joke" team from the last WBC. The team though topped there group with 20 points between them and Thatius, who finished second. The team then went onto win the series against The Kytler Peninsula in the Ro24 2-0. The Patistani federation now actually believed that they can win the WBC, but they were kidding themselves, Patistan went onto lose to The Royal Barangray 2-0 in the RO16. Baseball now started growing in Patistan and the PBF made a surprise move by bidding to host the International Baseball Slam. Patistan won the bid but the federation again named the same joke team, this angered the now interested populous and this led to the sacking of Akhtar Rasool the head of the PFB. It was also later known that he was involved in corruption charges. The Patistani team failed to get past the group stage but the situation was calmed down after new PFB head Shahid Fahad bid to host the World Baseball Classic 32 with fellow nations Jeckland and Super-Llamaland. He also promised that trials would be held for spots at the national team. He also insisted the Patistani Sports board to make a baseball league which is now currently being planned. The trials were held as he promised and the bid for the WBC 32 was won. Hence here is your new Patistani baseball team.
