Multiverse Premier League - everything thread

Postby Buyan » Sat Dec 13, 2014 3:31 am

This idea was first coined by ASMV, under the flag of the NationStates Premier League,
but he unfortunately CTE'd before the completion of the first edition of the NSPL.
A year has come and gone and it is time to give a new vibe to this,
with the...

The Multiverse Premier League?
A premier league-type league where each nation nominates one club (non-UICA) to participate in the league. It would be strictly standalone, and non-UICA. In no way, this is intended to harm or work against the UICA - it’s something entirely different. There is a maximum of one puppet (please declare).

How will it work out?
For the opening season, the season will be split in two parts. The opening half will see groups of six in double round robin - depending on your position you get listed in groups for the second half. The top group fights for the title, the other groups for their spot in the first or second tier during the second season. From then on, we’ll have three tiers - the top two flights with a fixed number.

Tier 1: Best seven of group 1, best five of group 2, best three of group 3, winner of group 4
Tier 2: Last one of group 1, 6-8 of group 2, 4-7 of group 3, 2-5 of group 4, best three of group 5 and winner of group 6
Tier 3: Remainder of teams plus new teams - they will be split in as many groups as necessary to give them a size between twelve and sixteen

Host stuff
I host. You might know me from previous sports tournaments such as the CE9, IUBC, Island Tour or the World Tour of Cycling.
I will use the most recent Xkoronate on SQIS formula. Generous and cumulative RP scores - carry-over between the two parts of the season.
Usually 2 MDs per cut-off - with exception for the last two, when it will be one cut-off, one match.
I currently look at starting around the 18th of December - or closer to the end of the WC70 - but that’s approximately and depending on the interest.

Società Sportiva Principato

Inhabited by only 34,250 people, the Principality of Ilva can't afford a professional football league; the nine teams that compete in the local championship are therefore strictly amateur. To give the football players of Ilva a chance to play against teams much better than the Principality's amateur sides, and the football fans of the microstate a chance to watch high-quality football, the Ilvan Football Federation has created a professional side, to compete in the Multiverse Premier League.

The team is coached by Damiano Berardi, former captain of the Principality's national team; 17/22 of S. S. Principato are Ilvan nationals who have played in last year's Ilvan Football League, while the remaining players are foreign nationals that have been bought by the club: midfielder Koizumi Ichiro from Mizuyuki, striker Mikhail Savrasov from Gvozdevsk, defender James Baker from Cestyr, midfielder Liu Yigong from Aurinsula, and striker Ahmed Ouaziz from Al-Andalus.

S. S. Principato has adopted a policy according to which at least 14/22 of the team, and at least 7/11 of the players on the field, will have to be players born in the Aenean microstate; Prince Girolamo, uncle to the reigning monarch of Ilva and co-owner of the club, while attending the press conference that unveiled S. S. Principato to the world, openly voiced his contempt for "those who view football as merely a tool to make money, and whore their team's colours out to the most profitable owner, or player. It's a grievous insult to the fans, who are forced to support the team of their city, region or country, by supporting people that are little better than prostitutes. We want to show the world, that no emir or sheikh can buy true passion, and true talent."

Jerred Wilcox #9
Image
Position: Goalkeeper

Age: 34

Football experience: Western New Mexico University (now University of Silver City) (3 years), Bordertown Warriors (6 years), Nogales United (8 years) (player/coach)

Quote: “I’ve been playing soccer since I was a little kid, and I’ve never really stopped, even with the Strange and everything that happened. I just like playing, so it doesn’t matter to me what jersey I’m wearing. When the time came for Nogales to get a new club, I stepped up and helped found the United, and I’m hoping I can do the same for the Strangers.”

Biography: Played youth soccer at Tucson FC before the Strange, and then played went to college at Western New Mexico (now University of Silver City). Born and raised in Nogales, returned there after university to be closer to his family and joined the Border Warriors, where he won the Nogales Civic Cup four times in six years as team captain before leaving to help found the Nogales United. Played eight years for the United, and served as interim head coach for two of those. A supporter of FK Franz Josef City and AFC Treason, as well as the Las Cruces Angels of the MBA.

Finke says: “Jerred is a veteran keeper who will anchor this team’s defense. He has massive hands and a proven work ethic, and I’m very fortunate to have him because he’s essentially two employees in one; a goalkeeper, and a goalkeeping coach. I foresee him taking an active role in mentoring the younger keepers while maintaining his own fitness to make a difference on the field for the Strangers.”

Drew James #2
Image
Position: Goalkeeper

Age: 25

Football experience: Cibola High School (3 years), Pima College (2 years), University of Tucson (2 years) Casas Adobes Renegades (2 years), Westside Flyers (1 year)

Quote: “I’m really excited to help get this club off the ground and have the opportunity to play internationally.”

Biography: One of the best keepers to come out of La Mesilla since the Strange, Drew James was a first-team All-Mesillano selection at Cibola in his senior year of high school and won the Collegiate Championship both years he was at Pima College. Spent his first year at the University as a backup, but took second-team All-University honors in his senior year before being recruited by Casas Adobes and later leaving to help found the Westside Flyers superteam.

Finke says: “A mature keeper despite his young age, and a serious competitor for a starting spot. Plays well off the line and does a good job of managing his defense.”

Nestor Rojas #15

Image
Position: Goalkeeper

Age: 25

Football experience: San Luis High School (4 years), Yuma University (4 years), Santos FC (2 years)

Quote: “I am extremely excited to finally be a professional. It has been a dream of mine that has now come true.”

Biography: Hailing from the southern, formerly Mexican, portion of San Luis, Nestor was a standout player on a subpar team at San Luis High, owing largely to its lack of funding. Nevertheless he walked onto team at Yuma and was immediately the starting goalkeeper, eventually winning the University Golden Glove award over Drew James, with whom he is said to have a rivalry.

Finke says: "An outstanding keeper. Huge hands, tireless work ethic, and a competitive spirit. Wants to be the best, and willing to work to get there."
Micah Vinson #4
Image
Position: Fullback/center back

Age: 34

Football Experience: LMMI (2 years), Yuma Proving Ground Devil Dogs (4 years)

Quote: “This is a great opportunity for me, and I plan to make the most of it.”

Biography: Micah Vinson joined the MDF when he was eighteen wanting to be a fighter pilot, but it turned out that he did not have the vision and so he was sent to a logistics unit instead. Needing a release from the disappointment of having his dream crushed, he fell back on soccer and worked out to join the post team, the YPG Devil Dogs. He proved dominant in the Yuma-San Luis League and when the time came he got orders to report to Strangers camp.

Finke says: “A tenacious player with tremendous discipline in the box. Good for a header, and should be able to clear the ball quite well.”

Martin Hoover #7
Image
Position: Centerback

Age: 28

Football Experience: Pima College (1 years), University of Tucson Wildcats (2 years), Oro Valley Roughnecks (4 years)

Quote: “I’m glad to have been selected for the Strangers. I got a late start on soccer, so playing professionally is not where I thought I’d be, but it’s been great so far. I’m going to give it my all, and hopefully show the rest of the multiverse what I’m about.”

Biography: A high school tennis player, he did not start playing soccer until he was eighteen, when he played on the Chi Kappa Theta intramural team at Pima College in Tucson. Scored ten goals in nine matches for the Chi Kapps and led them to an undefeated season. Played varsity the next year and won second-team All-Collegiate Honors, then transferred to Tucson, where he played two seasons on the varsity squad. Upon graduating, Martin remained in Tucson and played for the Oro Valley Roughnecks in the civic league. He is currently the national president of the Chi Kappa Theta fraternity.

Finke says:
“Martin is a versatile player who has not yet reached his full potential on the pitch. He is lightning quick and keeps his head up, and has no problem sacrificing his body to make the play. I expect very good things from this young man.”

Avery Trujillo #11
Image
Position: Center-back

Age: 34

Football Experience: Douglas High School, 2nd Battalion Roadrunners (5 years), White Sands Minutemen (5 years)

Quote: “I don’t exactly know where the order came from, but I joined the MDF to serve my country, and if the way to do that is to play football, then that’s what I’m going to do.”

Biography: Sergeant First Class Trujillo was a varsity wrestler in high school who was forced by his coach to play soccer in the fall. He enlisted in the MDF right out of high school and was part of one of the first classes to graduate basic training at Camp Oppenheimer. As a young soldier, he was “voluntold” onto an intramural soccer team for his unit and soon became a dominant force in the on-base soccer league at White Sands, eventually leading his unit to the All-MDF Championships at Ft. Huachuca, as well as being named to the White Sands team in the Alamogordo/Carlsbad/Roswell amateur league. In his free time, he enjoys riding ATVs, working on his truck, and trap shooting.

Finke says: “Sergeant Trujillo is a brutally tough defender, but he also has the discipline so many of his ilk lack. That’s what you look for in a defender. He can knock a player down to get at the ball, but he won’t go taking his personal feelings out on the field. I expect to see some consistent play from him, with almost no penalties.”

Jesus Donovan #16
Image
Position: Wing back

Age: 21

Football experience: Santos FC (3 years)

Quote: "I couldn't wait to tell my family I had gotten signed. They were all so excited."

Biography: As the son of a casino boss in Puerto Penasco, Donovan was raised on private tutors and, when he was old enough, a private football coach who taught him the best of everything. When he left the house, he took up with the Santos FC in San Luis, playing in the Yuma-San Luis League, where he was Rookie of the Year his first season. One of a few players on the Strangers without college or university experience.

Finke says: "A great deal of raw talent, and some outstanding footwork make Jesus a good choice for this team. I can't wait to see what he can do."

Anthony Davis #17
Image

Position: Wing-back

Age: 27

Football experience: Alamorgordo High School, Pima College (2 years), Oro Valley Roughnecks (1 year), Westside Flyers (6 years)

Quote: “I’m excited to be playing professional football. I think I’m good enough, I think this team is good enough, and I think it’s past time we all got an opportunity to show that.”

Biography: First entered the national spotlight in high school, leading the Alamogordo Tigers FC to the All-Mesillano High School Championship in his senior year, and being named to the All-Mesillano team. Was recruited by several colleges, but signed with Pima, where he started two years and was a captain as a sophomore.

Finke says: “Anthony’s got his best years of football ahead of him, and I think he’ll do well to spend them with us. He’s got good speed and footwork, and he’ll be a nightmare for anyone who tries to dribble past him. He has some crossover potential, too, especially given his speed, and he could very well find himself playing box-to-box at some point this season.”

Mac Kelley #18
Image
Position: Wing-back

Age: 22

Football experience: Buena High School (4 years), Cochise College (2 years), University of Tucson (2 years)

Quote: “My mom said I’d never get a job with my degree, and I guess she was right, but I’m really excited to be here, playing soccer for a living.”

Biography: Mac Kelley is a rising star of Mesillano football, a recent university graduate with the good fortune to matriculate straight to the Strangers. A box-to-box midfielder throughout high school, he moved to holding mid in college and later fullback in university, where he made the All-Mesillano team both years. He majored in classics at the University and graduated summa cum laude.

Finke says:
“A tenacious, high-tempo player, mature for his age, with considerable potential. A good stopper with the ability to play forward. Good soccer IQ, always aware of what’s going on on the pitch.”

Lillian Dorsey #38
Image
Position: Center back

Age: 22

Football experience: Tohono-O'odham College (2 years), Westside Flyers (1 year)

Quote: "This chance means everything to me. I can't wait to prove what I'm made of."

Biography: A lifelong soccer fan, she was unable to play in high school due to the lack of a girl's team, despite her outstanding athletic ability. She eventually walked onto the lackluster team at Tohono-O'odham, as it was the only college that would allow her to play, and became a standout defender for them, eventually winning second-team All-Mesillano honors. Her dreams were put on hold again, however, when none of La Mesilla's universities would let her play. Instead, she signed with the new Westside Flyers and later the Strangers, where she was put on the reserve team until she lobbied Finke to put her where she would be if she were a man.

Finke says: "A strong player who does not know the meaning of the word 'quit.' Plays hard all ninety minutes, makes tough tackles, and will stop at nothing to get rid of the ball."
Jeff Dennis #3
Image
Position: Right Winger

Age: 27

Football experience: Bisbee High School (3 years), Bisbee Copperheads (9 years)

Quote: “I’m looking forward to playing soccer for a living. I haven’t been outside Bisbee much since I was born, so I really want to see the world while I still can, and this is probably the best opportunity I’m going to get. I love to work hard and break a sweat, and I want to bring that work ethic to professional soccer.”

Biography: A standout player for Bisbee in his formative years, Dennis opted to remain in his hometown after graduation despite offers from colleges further north and work in the copper mines. Mining copper has been his day job since he was sixteen, while he has led the Bisbee Copperheads to victories over much better-funded clubs in cities like Sierra Vista and Tucson. Serves as a volunteer coach for the Bisbee team, and enjoys riding horses.

Finke says: “Jeff is an intuitive player with a cool head and nigh-inexhaustible stamina. Should see a lot of ninety-minute matches, especially in the early days of the season. Lost some time last season to an injury sustained in the mines, but appears to be back on track and able to make an impact this year,

Reginald Reilly #6
Image
Position: Holding midfield

Age: 33

Football experience: Willcox High (4 years), Nocturnals FC (3 years)

Quote: “It’s exciting to have a chance to get back into soccer. Normally what I am gets in the way, but so far the Strangers have been quite welcoming."

Biography: Reginald Reilly was born in Willcox before the Strange, and was bit by a werewolf in the early days, when he was an adolescent. His parents kept the secret from the rest of the town, but as he grew older it got harder, and eventually he hit the road by himself, but not before playing four impressive years of varsity soccer. He eventually purchased a motorcycle and fell in with the Nocturnals Motorcycle Club, an outlaw biker gang consisting entirely of lycanthropes, and became a prospect of its mother chapter in Tucson. As a full-patch, he competed for the now-defunct Nocturnals FC, a barnstorming team consisting of members of the Nocturnals MC

Finke says: "A strong contributor on defense, capable of stopping forward progress and stalling the offensive."

Norton Beasley #12
Image
Position: Attacking midfielder

Age: 31

Football experience: Sierra Vista FC (7 years)

Quote: “I can’t wait to take my game to the next level with the Strangers. I’m glad that I’ve had the opportunity to play, and I can’t wait to get back into playing sports at a high level.”

Biography: Originally a basketball player for the University of Las Cruces with designs on the MBA, an injury in his sophomore season cut Beasley’s basketball ambitions short, and he settled for a normal life in his hometown of Sierra Vista. A few years later, a friend convinced him to play for the local soccer club and he agreed, initially trying out at goalkeeper before accepting a move to striker and later midfield. Has been the captain of the SVFC for the past two seasons, and led them to a season title in the Border Wars. Still enjoys the occasional game of basketball, and is a season ticket holder for the Sierra Vista Kings.

Finke says: “A speedy, athletic player with a great sense of the field. Lots of energy and stamina, and unafraid to sacrifice his body to get at the ball. Should see lots of creative goals from him.”

Reinaldo Wynn #13
Image
Position: Winger

Age: 27

Football experience: Nogales United (3 years)

Quote: "I'm excited to make this a thing, and to improve myself and see the world."

Biography: Of all the players for Strangers FC, Reinaldo Wynn is likely the only one who is twice a Stranger. Upon losing his family to the Strange in adolescence, he was taken in by a group of ascetics who would eventually become known as the Strangers, a nihilistic cult that wanders La Mesilla, never putting down roots, living hand to mouth and doing what is necessary to survive. Growing tired of this lifestyle as an adult, he settled in Nogales and took up football as a hobby, but it soon became a passion.

Finke says: "A supremely gifted and versatile player, jack of all trades and master of some. Capable of playing any of the four midfield positions, as well as some defense in a pinch."

Douglass Solomon #14
Image
Position: Winger

Age: 23

Football experience: Sahuarita High School (4 years), Pima College (2 years), Sahuarita FC (2 years)

Quote: "I am so excited to have this opportunity for me and my family. I intend to make the most of it."

Biography: Born and raised in Sahuarita, Solomon played every position on the pitch in his four years at Sahuarita High School before settling on attacking mid at Pima College. Was named to the All-Mesillano team from Pima before joining Sahuarita FC when he graduated. Was also a track athlete and javelin thrower at both schools.

Finke says: "A quick and tenacious player with good footwork. Gets to the ball and attacks, attacks, attacks."

Trevor Hyde #19 (captain)
Image
Position: Left winger

Age: 34

Football experience: Western University (4 years), San Luis Riverrats (8 years), West Side Flyers (4 years) (player/coach)

Quote: “I’m so glad that professional football is finally coming to La Mesilla. I think we have the potential to be a great football nation, and I’m glad to be representing us on a multiversal scale.”

Biography: One of the old guard of Mesillano football, only Jerred Wilcox can claim to have been playing as long as Hyde, and he is unlikely to do so. One of the only notable players on the Western University soccer program in its first season, Wilcox remained at the college as an assistant coach while playing amateur football for the San Luis Riverrats in the Yuma-San Luis League until he was recruited by the newly-founded West Side Flyers of Tucson, who offered him a spot as a player-coach.

Finke says: “An outstanding player and leader, an exemplar of the merits of the Mesillano system. Plays his position well but is unafraid to take advantage of an opportunity. I expect to see goals from him as well as some expert passing and leadership as the team captain.”

Lucinda Perez #22
Image
Position: Defensive midfielder

Age: 20

Football experience: FC Rocky Point Peacemakers (2 years)

Quote: “I’m very excited by this opportunity. I felt like I got overlooked a lot in college, and I can’t wait to show my stuff on the big stage. I play good, hard-nosed soccer, and I want everyone to know that about me before the season’s done.”

Biography: A standout player for a virtually unknown team from the beach town of Puerto Penasco, better known as Rocky Point, Perez was a darkhorse coming into training camp. She took a lot of her teammates and coaches by surprise, however, demonstrating her prowess at stopping the ball and controlling the tempo of matches. She enjoys fishing and painting in her free time.

Finke says: “Lucinda is a dynamic player who I think is going to prove herself to be full of surprises this season. She was not well-known before she was recruited, but I think she is going to make a major impact on this team, and I can’t wait to see what she’s able to accomplish.”

Alexander Malone
Image
Position: Winger

Age: 23

Football experience: Empire High School (3 years), Cochise College (2 years), Tucson University (2 years), Westside Flyers (1 year)

Quote: “This is a great opportunity for me to see the multiverse and play some high-level soccer. I can't wait for the season to start."

Biography: Originally a striker for Empire High School in Tucson, he changed to midfield in his senior year and went on to play that position for two years at Cochise before matriculating to Tucson. Joined the inaugural Westside Flyers team, but did not see action in any games.

Finke says: “An athletic player with lots and lots of upside. A great pickup for this team."
Allen Bauer #1
Image
Position: Center forward/attacking midfield

Age: 28

Football experience: Artesia High School (4 years), Las Cruces University (2 years)

Quote: “I’m really excited to get back into soccer and make a living playing my favorite sport. I think I bring some professional sports experience to the table, which is good, but I know I’m going to have to work to get my skills back up to scratch.”

Biography: Standing a powerful 6’6”, Allen Bauer was a dual-sport athlete in high school, a four-year letterman in both basketball and soccer, where he split his time between goalkeeper and attacking mid. When he matriculated to Alamogordo College, he decided to focus on basketball with an eye toward joining the Las Cruces Aggies, only to find the varsity program there cut. Wanting to remain a top-tier athlete, Bauer walked onto the soccer team at Las Cruces, where he played two years at attacking mid before receiving an offer to play professional basketball for the Alamogordo Rocketeers, where he stayed for five years before joining the Strangers.

Finke says: “A solid player with tremendous athletic ability, and the potential to be a gamechanger up front. Very good work ethic, and experience in professional sports which should make him a leader on this team.”

Shaun Bennett #8
Image
Position: Striker

Age: 20

Football experience: La Mesilla Military Institute (LMMI) (2 years)

Quote: “I’m excited to be able to do my duty playing for this team. I enjoyed playing at LMMI, and I hope to expand my horizons by playing for Strangers.”

Biography: A recently-commissioned second lieutenant in the Mesillano Defence Forces, Bennett is a lightning fast striker who led LMMI to its first-ever winning seasons in both collegiate athletics. Originally signed up for soccer as an extracurricular at LMMI because everything else was full, but quickly showed his prowess and was promoted to the varsity team. Playing for the Strangers on orders from higher up in the MDF chain of command. Enjoys shooting and playing video games in his spare time.

Finke says: “Fast and accurate, a prototypical striker. Always seems to be in the right place at the right time to make goals, and an outstanding free-kicker. A bargain at twice the price.”

Christian Cleveland #10
Image
Position: Striker

Age: 28

Football experience: Cochise College (2 years), University of Las Cruces (2 years), Space Cowboys (6 years)

Quote: “I see this as an opportunity to really step up the level of soccer in La Mesilla, and I’m ready to take on that responsibility for myself and my team. I want to see the Strangers succeed and put La Mesilla on the map, figuratively and literally.”

Biography: A fast-rising star in Mesillano football, one of the few notable players from the otherwise isolated Las Cruces league. Played soccer at Las Cruces and Cochise on his way to a degree in mechanical engineering, and originally joined the Space Cowboys as a way to stay in shape while he awaited the start of the astronaut selection process at the Mesillano Space Center outside Las Cruces. The selection has obviously been delayed, but in the meantime Cleveland has put together a solid career as a member of the Space Cowboys team, which plays on the grounds of the Space Center.

Finke says: “A good all-around forward with the ability to score, pass, and even defend with some of the best of them. Able to lag back and spread the defense as well as penetrate into the box. Has the potential to be a major international star in this league in the future.

Moses Knowles #20
Image
Position: Striker
Age: 18
Football experience: Yuma High School (4 years), Cochise College
Quote: "This is a really great way to start my football career, and I'm really blessed to have this opportunity."
Biography: Played four years of varsity soccer at Yuma High. Will join the team when his freshman season at Cochise is done as part of a player-sharing agreement between the Strangers and several colleges in La Mesilla (the majority of shared players will be on the Strangers reserve side).
Finke says: "An outstanding young player, lots of energy and creative scoring. Expect big things from him, now and in the future."
The following analysis is provided by Penelope Reynolds, sports blogger for the Strange and major soccer fan.

The cat's out of the bag, the rosters have been released, and all the rumors are either confirmed or denied about La Mesilla's first foray into the world of professional soccer, Everett Finke's Strangers FC. Now that fans have had a few days to look over the results, the verdict is mostly mixed. This isn't an all-star team or the vaunted Mesillano national team, but it's not the island of misfit toys that some fans thought it would be, either. There are some solid choices scattered among the unknowns, and quite a few players that fall between the two extremes.

Goalkeepers
Three good, solid choices, each of them capable of playing the whole season alone, although Jerred Wilcox is far and away the best choice. The only problems likely to come between the stakes are going to come off the pitch, as ex-college rivals Nestor Rojas and Drew James battle it out for the second slot behind Wilcox. I hope that both have matured considerably since their college days of talking smack for the cameras, but there is no reason to doubt that Wilcox's mentorship may coerce them to put the past behind.

Defenders
A solid group with a few question marks interspersed, the biggest being Avery Trujillo, one of the most prominent of the Strangers' military contingent. No doubt he has fitness and discipline, but at thirty-four and having no experience above post intramurals, what does Finke expect him to do, let alone as a starter? Fortunately, the fullbacks are rock-solid, with former West Side Flyer Anthony Davis one of the most surprising pickups for this team, and while Martin Hoover was more famous for frat parties than soccer at the U, he has the critical combination of athleticism and youth that will turn him into a star in time. The bench is surprisingly deep here, with untested but talented Lillian Dorsey expected to see some minutes in longer games, and Jesus Donovan more than capable of backing up wunderkind Mac Kelley at right fullback.

Midfielders
Probably the best component of this team, besides maybe the goalkeepers. Team captain Trevor Hyde is rock solid on the wing, and his opposite number Jeff Dennis seems just as locked into this role at right winger. The front and rear of the midfield might see some more changeups, with the gentle giant Allen Bauer subbing in for fellow ex-basketball star Norton Beasley when the time comes for a deeper threat.
The Strangers Reserves side consists almost entirely of schoolboys and girls and college or university players in whom the team has an interest, but who cannot be expected to take off school and fly across the multiverse. These players are strictly amateur, to maintain their collegiate eligibility, and train with the full side over school breaks while remaining members of their high school, collegiate, and university teams.

Team Analysis

With some major sellings and a change to the main squad, Jelle FC has completely changed. It is stronger and has more formidable players, ready to face everything in front of them. This will be the busiest season for them as they will have to playin 3 tournaments, the Multiversal Premier League or as we call in Estenia just Premiership, the Champions Cup Qualifiers, then the Globe Cup ones and the Estenian Meistriliiga. After they lost Yuri Makareshi, the defence strength has reduced, although the addition of Philipp Von Weckerberg has made the offence pretty strong and as of the moment he's the first scorer of Meistriliiga with 12 goals already.
Runner-up at the 1st OMAHAN FUTSAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, 4th at Maple Leaf Bowl III, 4th on Baptism of Fire 57, 2nd at Runner Cup 4, 3rd at 21st World Lacrosse Championships.

SEMARLUUNDIK DEVENKLUB B - SDKB - MPL I ROSTER

About SDKB - SDKB is a side featuring some of the greatest U21 talent in Semarland. A mixture of national U21 regulars and club U21 regulars, it is designed to provide first-team experience for the players when they become first-team regulars. There is a squad of 30, with a matchday squad of 18 being named for each game. It will be of course, in rotation. When players are not in the 18-man squad, they will be free to play and train for their parent club.[/i]

GOALKEEPERS
Three of the goalkeepers, Nkutu, Noregaard and Mbabe are already young professionals at their respective clubs while Lindholm is a second year scholar at his, working to his first pro contract. Nkutu and Noregaard have been named in the first matchday squad, with Mbabe and Lindholm likely to be in the second. Nkutu has seen little national U21 action due to Marco Valbuena and club teammate Blaise N'Zonzi keeping him out. But following the national promotion of Valbuena, and N'Zonzi seeing regular action for the first team at Krsthaven, Nkutu will probably be a regular for both U21 club and country sides. He is the cousin of FC Jansberg winger Abel, and FC Kolberg striker Carmelo, with the latter being in the squad. Whereas Noregaard and Mbabe are U21 regulars, and Lindholm an U18 regular. Noregaard has only played once for the U21s, Mbabe featuring thrice. Lindholm is the regular shot-stopper for the U18 national side.
1. Jonah NKUTU - 20 - KRSTHAVEN
12. Christian NOREGAARD - 20 - FC KOLBERG
22. Nicolas MBABE - 19 - LUSENHAGEN
30. Marc LINDHOLM - 17 - FRANSBORG SET NJILKAER

DEFENDERS
Like in all positions, there is a talented pool of players to choose from. The first back four will likely be FC Jansberg scholar Christian Parr at left back, U21 & National regular Matjas Nordland and U21 regular Niko Schone at centre back, with Adjurgen right-back Reto Janssen on the right. The other four comprise of Arkjet left-back Janko Marcssen, Krsthaven scholar Martin Eriksen, Arkrau first-team regular Jores Mbanga, and Kadet right-back Pascal Kalani, also capable of playing as centre-back. The first four plus Mbanga and Kalani have been named in the first squad, with the other two set to feature in the next round.
2. Christian PARR - 17 - FC JANSBERG
3. Reto JANSSEN - 19 - ADJURGEN
5. Matjas NORDLAND - 21 - FC NUHOLM (c)
6. Niko SCHONE - 20 - ARKRAU KLUB
13. Jores MBANGA - 20 - ARKRAU KLUB
14. Pascal KALANI - 20 - MOLSBIK KADET
23. Janko MARCSSEN - 21 - MOLSBIK ARKJET
26. Martin ERIKSEN - 17 - KRSTHAVEN

MIDFIELDERS
At a glance, the midfield seems the most inexperienced, with two schoolboys, a few scholars and recent young professionals. But for their clubs, they've proved to be the hottest talent in Semarland. FC Jansberg schoolboy Tunji Adebayo and his scholar brother Pascal are in the squad, alongside Krsthaven trio right-winger Diego Snow, star player last time around at the Di Bradini cup, central midfielder Marcel Labonne, also capable on the wing, plus creative midfielder Rene Matunne. FC Jansberg scholar Marc Strand, Semarland's hottest talent is also included, Eikborg's winger Jacob Mtiliga is also in the squad, plus Rasmus Kvist, who is starting to blossom into FC Nuholm's first team. The others are 21 year old Adel Nzonzi of Molsbik Kadet, and 15 year old Lusenhagen schoolboy Amoah Bishiru, the youngest in the squad. Out of these, the 6 in the squad are Snow, Mtiliga, Labonne, Strand, Nzonzi and Matunne.
4. Tunji ADEBAYO - 16 - FC JANSBERG
7. Jacob MTILIGA - 18 - EIKBORG CLUB
8. Marcel LABONNE - 20 - KRSTHAVEN
11. Diego SNOW - 20 - KRSTHAVEN
15. Rene MATUNNE - 20 - KRSTHAVEN
16. Marc STRAND - 17 - FC JANSBERG
20. Rasmus KVIST - 21 - FC NUHOLM
21. Pascal ADEBAYO - 18 - FC JANSBERG
27. Adel NZONZI - 21 - MOLSBIK KADET
29. Amoah BISHIRU - 15 - LUSENHAGEN

FORWARDS
Eight of Semarland's top youth scorers have been called up into this squad. Mainly young professionals bar two schoolboys, this is probably the most experienced position in the squad. Jakob Stretner of SSA is already pushing for a first-team place, as are Nicklas Enevoldsen of FC Matovallanen and Erik Moss of Krsthaven. Recent young pros Abadayu Abwelange and Lasse Hummel, both top scorers for their U18 sides last season, are also in. But the most exciting talent are FC Jansberg schoolboy duo Isaac Nketiah and Serge Mavididi. Set to sign their scholarship next Premarligaen, these have already been regulars in their U18 sides for club and country. The four named in the squad are Stretner, Moss, Abwelange and Hummel.
9. Jakob STRETNER - 21 - SPORTING SAINT ADRENSBURG
10. Nicklas ENEVOLDSEN - 20 - FC MATOVALLANEN
17. Erik MOSS - 19 - KRSTHAVEN
18. Abadayu ABWELANGE - 18 - FC KOLBERG
19. Lasse HUMMEL - 18 - FRANSBORG SET NJILKAER
24. Carmelo NKUTU - 20 - FC KOLBERG
25. Isaac NKETIAH - 16 - FC JANSBERG
28. Serge MAVIDIDI - 16 - FC JANSBERG

STAFF
Head of Semarlandic Football Youth Development Soren Carr has been appointed as Manager, with his assistant being Markus Kristiansen, manager of Semarland's U16s, who have no fixtures scheduled for quite a while. This benefits for both players and staff as Carr has worked with all the players at some point, and Kristiansen all except a few, and currently working with Tunji Adebayo, Amoah Bishiru, Isaac Nketiah and Serge Mavididi in the U16s. The coaches are U16 goalkeeping coach Renat Markussen, U21 defensive coach Lasse Denholm, and U18 attacking coach Matjas Muller.

ROGERTON HERALD
Local Team to participate in Multiverse Premier League

The Rogerton Valladar Club de Fútbol, Darmen's newest football club, announced today that it will participate in the first season of the new Multiverse Premier League. The club, which was founded by several influential members of the Valladar community within Darmen, will play there home games at the brand new, 8,000 seat, Estadio Monumental Ernesto Chavarría, which was named after the former Director of the Darmeni-Valladar Cultural Center who was unfortunately gunned down by an over zealous hospital security guard during the riots this past summer.

While the name of the club indicates that it is a club primarily for supporters of the Valladar ethnic community, the club's Chairman, Señor Rico Tomàs, made it clear that the club is for supporters of any ethnicity. "This club is for everyone, Valladar, Darmeni, anyone," however he would go on to clarify, "but no one who expresses anti-Valladar sentiment will be allowed to associate themselves with this club. Racism and bigotry directed towards the Valladar community within Darmen as well as in Valladares, will not be tolerated."

The club has yet to name a squad, but it is widely rumored that the squad will be made up entirely of Valladar players who currently play with other teams in Darmen. Midfielder Miquel Moralez, who currently plays for Micon in the Amateur League Level Two-Group B, has been tabbed as the clubs first signing, although this has yet to be confirmed by either the club or Moralez.

The club has however announced a Manager. Celino Fonseca will lead the club in their first season, having formerly been the assistant manager with the Rogerton Whitecaps. This will be his first time having complete control of a club, and he is excited to get started. "This is a wonderful opportunity," he said when being unveiled several days ago, continuing, "this club has a chance to do something really special, something that's never been done before, and that's to connect with a whole community of people and give them something to unite around."

Villitova Stars

Following the creation of the MPL, the CFA set about on bidding for a Chiatan team to be put in the league. The bid for the Villitova Stars was accepted and the team was given an owner and a rather large sum on money. With this vast treasure, the owner was able to get national team players still in Chiatan clubs and cherry picked players from across Division I as well as signing all of the graduating under-21 team members. In all, two players are starters on the National Team while three more are bench National Team players. Not to mention that the stars somehow got the coach of from the Fiva Forsters, the reigning Division I champs. Due to the many excellent defenders and Chiata's general play style, the Villitova Stars are a very defensive team.

THEREISNOGODISTAN FC
OFFICIAL TEAM SHEET

Thereisnogodistan County is a county in the Abanhfleft colony of the Fhulghamous Peninsula. It was established on November 30, 2014 from the splitting of Haritzaga County, by Colonial Executive Order No. 190047. The southern part of the county retained the name and history of Haritzaga County, while the northern part was named Thereisnogodistan County. The county seat is Thereisnogodabad.

Thereisnogodistan FC is an association football team based in Thereisnogodabad, Fhulghamous Peninsula. Its home ground is Richard Dawkins Park, a newly-built 8,000-seater park named after the prominent atheist Richard Dawkins. The team is set to play in Abanhfleft's Liga Ikatlo, the fourth level of the Fleftic football league pyramid, replacing Uthilmir Athletic, which had been dissolved following five months of insolvency during the 2013-14 season. Thereisnogodistan FC had been volunteered by the Fleftic Commission on Games and Sports to the Multiverse Premier League following the announcement of the resurrection of the organization.

Veteran clubs may seek to use their inexperience playing with each other to its full advantage.

Greetings from the Fatherland!

If you are reading this letter, then congratulations. It means your footballing association's bid for entry into the Multiverse Premier League was successful, and that you may shortly be facing the pride of Lzher football, Smyslova Virmest. As the head of the Rodukov Lzherusskia Myachko, I would like to extend our heartiest welcome to any and all representatives who would care to visit our shores ahead of the MPL kick off. Rest assured you will be treated as our honoured guests, and we hope you will extend our diplomatic parties the same courtesy.

Attached with this letter, please find a copy of the official Smyslova Virmest press kit. This has been compiled to serve as a guide for your nation's sporting media, for especial use in the event that our two nations square off on the field – it includes a sample roster sheet, some background on the team and the key figures, as well as a handy pronunciation guide to avoid awkward faux pases.

We wish you the best of luck through this inaugural season – except, of course, against ourselves!

Sincerely,

Smyslova Virmest

The Team
Fifty years old this season, Smyslova Virmest (pr: Smis-LOW-vah VEER-mest) are the top team in the nation's capital and are the Lzherusskia (pr: Leh-RUSH-kah) representative to the MPL, having won the LMV championship for the first time in thirty years last season. Unlike most of the LMV's teams, which have been bought by high-profile and high-spending consortiums, Smyslova are still owned by the family Minchesov, best known for owning the Chernyak chain of supermarkets - hence the team and the fanbase derisively being nicknamed "Cherna" or "Shopkeepers". The team has a long-standing rivalry with Djalikhan Sargkisia, motivated in part by genuine political tensions regarding Sargkisian independence, and the clashes between the two are almost certain to be aggressive, violent occasions.

Tactical Points
Smyslova play a strongly offensive style and everything from the tactical and squad selections down are geared with offense in mind. Nominally, the formation could be described as 4-1-3-2 or 4-3-1-2, with four defenders and two strikers being constant and four midfielders/wingers being shuffled as needed. The strikeforce will change depending on the selection but, in the most common case, a dedicated striker or "poacher" will play off the set-up man and be supported by in-cutting wingers.

The wing play is a significant point: although players are designated wingers and wing backs, in practise each side's winger and wing back are intended and encouraged to switch positions as the play demands - where a normal wing back would reach the halfway point and feed the winger, for Smyslova the wing back would continue to press and his winger would drop back to the wing back position. Critics argue that by restricting themselves to players capable of defense and attack in equal measure, the flexibility Smyslova gain is lost in the relative mediocrity of their wingmen compared to other teams.

Stadium
Image
The Kamestana Obtilev (pr: Kah-meh-STAH-nah OB-tea-lev) seats a little over sixty thousand and is currently the newest football stadium in Lzherusskia, although that will shortly no longer be the case with the imminent opening of Poszar Savoprinov's new home. Boasting a staggering range of amenities from the simple – cup-holders for every seat – to the ostentatious – Tamara Kushchenka, arguably Lzherusskia's greatest living chef, operates a four-star restaurant dedicated to Balder cuisine – it should be no surprise that the Lzher national team uses the Kamestana Obtilev to play their home games in.

Head Coach
Image
Thirty-six years old at the time, Arkadi Barabanschikov (pr: Bah-rah-BAN-she-kov) was an unexpected choice to succeed Emil Balyikov as Smyslova's head coach when the latter retired four years ago. While his first year in charge was one blighted by injuries, the sale of key players and poor luck, Barabanschikov – nicknamed “Mevrech” or “The Doctor” - was able to right the ship in large part due to his willingness to rely on Smyslova's vaunted academy system and sell players he thought were overpriced by the transfer market.

Captain
Image
One of the team's veterans, Juri Petrukhnov was handed the Smyslova captain's armband two years ago when Milan Vodopyanov was sold to Djalikhan Sargkisia and the defender has barely had a chance to look back. Often described in such glowing terms as the beating heart of the team and the best friend any goalkeeper could ever have, Petrukhnov's fame is paradoxically based on his goalscoring. It doesn't happen often, but it seems that whenever there's a truly critical moment in the game – a corner, a free kick, a goalmouth scramble – Petrukhnov finds a way to be involved.

Top Scorer
Image
One of the top strikers the Lzher leagues have to offer, Ilja Pronin is surprisingly not a Smyslova product. He was one of the first players brought in by Arkadi Barabanschikov when he took the reigns and, like the Doctor, Pronin had a tough debut year. In his case, the problem was living up to the high price tag - Vilnera demanded twelve and a half million pilar to give up his services and a return of just nine goals was a bitter pill to swallow. It proved merely to be teething pains, however, as Pronin finished second in league scoring the year after and cemented his place as part of the Lzher national team's strikeforce with an astonishing thirty-three goals in forty-six games across all competitions.

The Wildcard
Image
The game is replete with examples of players who simply couldn't control themselves and squandered their fantastic skill and, unless Frantisek Smerdyakov allows others to help him, there is a very real chance he will become just another name in the history books. A midfielder capable of playing as far up or down the picture as the situation needs him to, Smerdyakov's first and biggest issue is his temper - he is one of the few players in Lzher footballing history to be sent off more than four times in one season and, as Barabanschikov put it, "he can change the game, but he can't do it in the changing room". It is not an exaggeration to suggest that when facing the cream of the international crop, Smyslova Virmest may go as Smerdyakov goes.

Team Colours
ImageImage
Black, gold and white. Based in the nation's capital, the black-and-gold motif of the Smyslova home shirt was intended to evoke memories of the national flag and coat of arms, as was the prominent cogwheel in the club's logo. As for the past six years, the team's kit has been designed by KT·SPORT, native of Kinitaria.

Projected Formation
Image
Extrapolating from the starting line-ups of Smyslova Virmest throughout the season, this is the most likely scenario. Of the three other strikers in the squad, Petyr Zedginidze is the best set-up man and has a lot of chemistry with Ilja Pronin, so the lion's share of the team's goals are likely to come from them. Alex Nikoladze fought a constant running battle with Michal Makarenko for the attacking midfield spot and just edged him out in terms of starting appearances to appear here. On the bench, expect to see Ales Kozhnikov, sweeper Oskar Isangulov, Ravil Kostyukov, the aforementioned Makarenko and Cyril Tsybutovich.

Choose My Goalscorers: Yes but be sensible. The most likely scorers are the two strikers, following by the attacking midfielders, then the wingers/wing backs.
Godmod Goalscoring Events: Yes but, again, be sensible.
Injure Players: Yes, but no specifying how long the player's out for and again, be sensible.
Godmod Injury Events: No
Red/Yellow Card Players: If you TG me first and get my approval, sure. For reds, Smerdyakov, Galinovsky and Khudiakov are the most likely offenders; for yellows, almost anybody is game.
Godmod Other Events: As above, TG me first.

Thanks to Red Blackiland for the emblem and Apox for the permissions!

Some football clubs take off as a group of likeminded souls find one another and conclude that founding a team will allow them to enforce their interest in the greatest game. Others start as one feels to need to provide a focal point for those in his or her neighbourhood to find one another through this competition. Dyatinsk Barbarians started as a quest from a disgruntled business man who realised that his expensive stadium was costing him money just by rotting away in the sun. Vladimir Zivsev was the man who financially allowed the BFB to host the Campionato Esportiva IX by providing the funds for The Nine, the gigantic stadium located in the outskirts of Dyatinsk. A city where, as of now, no professional team has set foot so far – contrary to their neighbours in Druzhna. Zivsev quickly discovered that such a stadium eats out your budget due to repair costs and more and that the only way to assure it brings in something – considering the fact that it’s located at the smallest of the eleven islands of the archipelago – was ensuring a steady stream of matches. There were some rumours about him buying Viztourzys Kolektyvinis or Druzhna Rovers to play in his stadium, but eventually the MPL offered a unique opportunity.

The Squad of Dyatinsk Barbarians

1. Francziszek Bogusz (GK – 25 years old)
Bogusz should serve as the starting goalkeeper and that’s no giant surprise considering the fact that he was once part of the sole DBC selection ever send by Buyan as member of Ciegnalki Motor - back then in the Second Division. After four years for Motor, he signed in 2019 for Slask Pruzniwczo. For most of the time, he has been the starting goalie there, appreciated for his great line skills. But last season was an awful year for Slask and while he was one of the better ones before the summer, he lost his spot under new manager Ljung. Time for a move and in 2022, Bogusz hopes to refind his glory in Dyatinsk.

12. Stefan Balmer (GK – 17 years old)
In terms of talent between the posts, it seems that Dyatinsk hasn’t got a lack of potential. Stefan Balmer comes straight out of the keepers school that previously provided us with guys like Ulle Seber and Jan Erhardt. Balmer has few chances to appear for the first of Blau-Weiss Pallstadt and as such, manager Kullersdorf saw it interesting to send him on loan to Dyatinsk. Certainly an interesting prospect with great length, but not always as good in reading the game. Wants to make it hard on Bogusz for the role of starting goalie.

23. Juozas Sadzius (GK – 17 years old)
Being brought in as third goalie seldom is an enviable position, but Sadzius doesn’t appear to us as the kind of guy that will simply accept this position. He’s rather on the short side for someone between the stakes but compensates that with tremendous explosiveness. Unfortunately, that’s also a pretty good description on his character. Was getting in trouble in Torspeda and as such, Sparta Torspeda decided to loan him to Dyatinsk. Has ambition and works hard.

5. Mykolas Parcenivas (LD – 26 years old)
One of those players who has seen his career barred by someone who will always eclipse him in terms of talent. Parcenivas is a pure Viztourzys product but from the youth categories on, his career has been in the shadows of Kazimieras Zemaitis, a personal friend of his. Together, they made their way to the first team but whilst Zemaitis became a player of international calibre – assembling nearly a hundred caps so far – Parcenivas became a bench player for the Red Machine. In seven seasons for the first team, he assembled only around fifty appearances, mostly during less important matches. It’s now or never if he wants to become a player with a career on his own.

15. Jesper Magnusson (LD - 16 years old)
Magnusson comes straight out of the youth academy of Bengtsmark IF and that should be enough background to consider him a talented fellow. Over at the Yellows, Markushovn considered it one step too early for him to appear as they couldn’t use another difficult round at that position after the Kurilinen debacle last season. As such, Magnusson is allowed to gain some kilometres over at Dyatinsk and return in 2023 as a seasoned left back. Should have the capacity to go up and over Parcenivas, but is he ready for the big step?

4. Sam Kallas (CD – 20 years old)
In a way, he could be considered a late bloomer with only eight appearances for Seura Pohkakunti on his record, yet he is seen as a natural talent. Was the captain of the notorious U19-category of Seura and combines a lot of authority with a fine pass. Some question if he’s quick enough to make it against international opposition but he certainly has something charming over him. As Seura dropped a flight, most of his teammates were targets for scouts. Also Kallas, but both Jottnar and Tillsamman had to give in to the offer made by Dyatinsk. It shows that the Barbarians really wanted him, but it also raises the pressure.

3. Davis Dorosevs (CD – 23 years old)
After three seasons for Paszai Association, Davis Dorosevs was picked up in 2020 by Sparta Torspeda. Quite a big chance for this sturdy defender as he was never considered an exceptional talent. Hard work is his trade but that didn’t suffice to break up the duo Ceslovas – Somoza. Barred for any playing chances – appearing only eleven times in two seasons – he considered it wise to move out. It evidences his talent that Sparta opposed and eventually, they agreed on a loan to Dyatinsk. Many remain a bit critical upon his capacities but he is a player with a positive attitude and a mean tackle – always interesting in a team that still has to be built from the ground.

17. Heinz Libberhard (CD – 25 years old)
When Heinz Libberhard was twenty years old, he considered quitting football overall. As so many youngsters, he had gone through the youth categories of Aigil Grephel. But the club – once quite respected, now lingering in the third tier – saw little in his future and didn’t offer him a spot in their 2017 squad. Libberhard quit, starting working as a clerk in a logistic company and considered it over. But a tad later, he enjoyed playing for an amateur team, excelled there and one thing led to another as Mechler Fusscollectiv picked him up in 2020. Last season, he was the cornerstone to a strong first half and such got noticed. He turned down an offer from Grephel and Ernesse to become a starting player here. Strong and a proper pair of feet, he is an interesting figure.

2. Pilypas Petricius (RD – 33 years old)
The nestor of the squad and one who honestly says that he is in it for the adventure. Pilypas played in the far past for Spartak Pajukas but as those went bankrupt, he made the move to city rival Pajukas Sport along with Noreika and Paleckis. While the others slowly fell back, Petricius became a local hero with amongst others a Cup victory to his name. After seven seasons for the Boys in Green, he’s known as an attractive high-risk player who can score every once and a while – but has his awful mistake twice a season as well. Hate him or love him, he will bring much-needed experience to this backline and has class in abundance.

21. Sylvester Rellner (RD – 17 years old)
Along with Magnusson, this little gem has been loaned by Bengtsmark IF to the start-up that Dyatinsk Barbarians is. Rellner joined the youth academy after a disputed transfer from Garbarnia – normally forbidden below sixteen but as his father took up a new job for a Bengtsmark sponsor and his mother comes from that area, the board saw it as a non-financially motivated transfer. Either way, the boy continued to evolve to a respectable right back but lost the fight inhouse against Olli Grilianen to become the stunt double of Chiatan international George Smith. Not a healthy situation for this talent and now he can endanger the position of Petricius. Quick and reliable, but not enough initiative.

14. Erik Bentson (DM – 18 years old)
Quite possibly one of the greatest talents in the squad. Bentson appeared for the first time to the attention as 16-year old substitute for Welanduz Vadshult. Back then, he was more or less considered to be an attacker. As his club relegated, he was picked up by Thor Rellhovn where his manager discovered that he even has more to offer as a box-to-box player. A lot of pace, able to become a danger in front of goal but not too tired to fall back when needed. Unfortunately, it’s no great match with the current Thor system as Rootare takes the midfield. Thor offers his services for one season to Dyatinsk, but if this boy takes off, he won’t take enough with a simple spot on the bench.

6. Fabian Goretzka (DM – 29 years old)
Another case of a player that started higher up the field but fell back during the years, this journeyman. After a youth career for Ernesse Stahl, Goretzka was picked up by Blau-Weiss where he had a few good seasons. But in 2016 he was replaced by Kauppi and had to move to Haljo Vannarby. Once again, he had a few good seasons as right midfielder but discovered that when his team went down, no one was waiting for him. Eventually Grephel Gryphionen offered a solution where he serves as the coordinating player. An injury of his might have made the difference for this second divisionist between staying up and going down, but it also offered a new – last? – chance for Goretzka at the highest level.

22. Tiivo Perianen (LM – 17 years old)
Once again someone with few appearances at the highest level, but when he came in, Perianen did show a lot of promise. As Seura disappears to a lower tier, they did all that’s possible to keep him near, fending off offers from Blau-Weiss and Jottnar. Eventually, Dyatinsk agreed with a loan of one year and if Seura isn’t up to the highest division by then, he’ll join their ranks indefinitely. We see this man make a breakthrough as Perianen – also part of the U19’s Kallas captained – creates a lot of danger from the left wing with a lot of volume and some clever dribbles. Will need some guidance off the pitch, unfortunately.

19. Carl Stemmer (CM – 22 years old)
That Stemmer is a good football player is something almost anyone agrees on. But he shows it so seldom. Playing for Jottnar, he was offered a chance as starting player in the beginning of the season but he has become eclipsed by Kluwshavl and Coultan. Too bad for this former Ernesse player, who certainly has a lot of potential but failed to match that predicate with goals. If he can make a step up, Dyatinsk will have won a polyvalent player who could serve on both wings as well as in the middle. Expect few goals, but a lot more assisting passes and off the pitch, he is known as a more arty soul. One of the few football players at this level with a master level in architecture.

8. Eero Halmiini (RM – 29 years old)
Fifty-seven appearances in the national team. Twelve goals. Titles, trophies, sticker parades. Eero Halmiini has seen it all and is as such one of the faces of this squad. He was one of the guys who best made the switch from the amateur to the professional level and as such a pillar in the dynasty of Viztourzys Kolektyvinis. Smart dribbling, dangerous infiltrations and a mean assist, he had a great package that allowed him after three titles with the Red Machine to make the switch to FC Ararat Severyan in Mytannion. A splendid period in a stellar competition but due to political issues over there, he had to move back. A lauded international, with large experience for the Hedgehogs, he was much welcomed in Viztourzys. But 2021 wasn’t his season as he seldom shined for his team due to injuries and lost his spot in the national selection for the World Cup 70. Halmiini wants to take a new start and if his ankles hold it, he’s a star. If.

18. Jan Ragowicz (RM – 21 years old)
Being the back-up of such a star certainly is a difficult role and many question whether a youngster brought in from third divisionist 22. Czerwiec Grozno could fill those shoes. Ragowicz has a pretty dribble up his sleeve and his speed is nearly unmatched. Having played only for one squad so far, some put some question marks to his ability to fit in in this group of journeymen as well. But on the other hand, he has been picked up for a reason. We’re sure he’s worthy of a chance at the highest level and might turn out to be a revelation.

10. Dan Gelson (AM – 29 years old)
Along with Kroempf and Halmiini, the third face of this new team. Dan Gelson has for ages been the key player in the setup of Welanduz Vadshult, where he often had to make the most of it whilst being surrounded by lesser players. The one and only conductor, but not always as effective as pretty. Eventually, his team went down but Gelson was picked up by Bengtsmark IF. A personal dream, he called it, but it became a nightmare as he seldom appeared – and even less in his most favoured position. As such, he is very eager to show his value and demonstrate to his former employers that he’s a player for this level.

20. Stefan Ladsell (AM – 24 years old)
The lost son, was the title of the article announcing his return to Buyan and we can quite well understand that. Ladsell ran through the youth academy of BK Vadshult, a minor Traditionsverein quickly too small for his talent. His talent was noted by IFK Pollmarnang – back than in the highest tier – where after a difficult first season in 2015, he quickly became the linchpin of the Hikers. Skilled passing, great vision, he had the package. But when IFK fell, he overplayed his hand and had to spend a season in the second tier. Eventually Laketown Rangers, a Taeshani side, offered a way out but that didn’t lead to much glory as he often spend time in the stands. A broken career for a man once named for the national team – but at the age of 24 it’s too quick to speak about a finished career but it’s now or never for him.

7. Erwin Kroempf (RA – 31 years old)
We might have mentioned already that this club, started from scratch, has an above average amount of journeymen, guys looking for a new chance or simply luck searchers. Kroempf quite possibly ticks all three boxes. Gryphionen, Ernesse, Blau-Weiss, Pollmarnang, Torspeda, Welanduz and again Blau-Weiss, it’s quite an impressive list of clubs. Everywhere he played, Kroempf managed to find the back of the net and he’s ranked near the top-fifteen of all-time goalscorers in the Top Division – while seldom being staged as starting player. But he’s an explosive character. This could end up great – or awful – and no one is really sure what way it will go.

9. Kjetil Harde (CA – 21 years old)
After a rather unremarkable rise through the youth series of Tjelberg Forening – quite a good learning ground – Kjetil Harde was at once thrown into deep when he had to start as striker in 2020. Not an overall success, as he had a few good games but some poor ones as well. With the big turnaround at Den Dam, Harde was sent to the neighbours from Jottnar Kallsmudden where he had a similar season. Sometimes the big fellow up front with quite a few goals, sometimes the game seemed to go too quick for him. As such, Jottnar didn’t protest too much when Dyatinsk came for him. Could be vital in some games, but might not be ready to lead the attack every day of the week.

13. Kurt Livorski (CA – 26 years old)
It remains a bit of a question mark why Livorski hasn’t made that move up to the tier of the big boys. Slow bloomer, Livorski started his career for the seldom remarked Mirzich Jedenascie. At Garbarnia Hoyersko, he often scored important goals but struggled to bring the same level every game. As a result, he had to move to Ernesse Stahl. A fine contract and Livorski scored plenty of goals but after a few seasons, it starts to bore if you’re still stuck in the second tier. For Livorski, this is the second chance and he seems very eager to move Harde out of the team. Can surely be an option, he’s a great scorer.

11. Trygve Andresen (LA – 22 years old)
It is not seldom that players struggle to make that last jump from a good to a great player and it is exactly where Andresen is stuck for the moment. One of the few who survived the great turnaround at Tjelberg Forening, this homegrown man caught the attention of his manager Robinson. He turned him into a real striker instead of a moderate wingback, Andresen discovered he can score and the rest would be history – if it weren’t for him being barred off the team by Hari and Ostergaard – admittedly better players. With possible transfers for this duo in mind, Tjelberg loans him to Dyatinsk to see if he can make that step up and return through the big gate.

16. Rudy Polaniak (LA – 16 years old)
Of the twenty-three players that encompass the Dyatinsk Barbarians selection, Polaniak is quite probably the biggest unknown for the regular football fan. He only picked up the game three seasons ago and has in that period caught limited attention – but that goes for anyone in the youth series of Garbarnia Hoyersko. Over there, he is considered a modern, dangerous striker with an interesting goal-to-matches ratio. Could use some extra experience and as such on loan to Dyatinsk for a season, but we’re not sure if he can get past his direct opponents.

On Species and Equestrian Hoofball
The Equestrian States is a nation of incredible diversity. When many countries make this kind of statement, they are referring only to racial matters dealing with differences in skin color or culture. But the Equestrian States takes diversity to a whole new level, with dozens of sapient species living alongside each other in harmony. From pegasai to griffons, and humans to dragons, the Equestrian States is among the most diverse nations known to exist. But diversity has also had a unique and intriguing impact on the playing of sports in the Equestrian States, and hoofball is no exception. In the following paragraphs, the natural strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies of each prominent species in the Equestrian States will be explored, offering those unfamiliar with the Equestrian States a chance to explore the wonderful diversity that makes the Equestrian States a great country and gives our beloved national hoofball team a versatility that few others can hope to match.

Highale City

About Highale:

Highale is a city in the south east of Val Halla. With exports of cotton and potatoes, the people of Highale are very proud of their city, with tens of thousands showing up to every game each two weeks. Highale City currently lie 3rd in the Val Halla Super Football league, though they were league leaders at nomination. They have inter-city rivals in Highale Athletic, but consistently beat them in their games together.

The Club History:

Highale City were one of the front running teams before the creation of the official league. Founded by some young schoolboys in 1897, they grew alongside the football scene in Val Halla, and have one of the most prominent fan bases. Their stadium, the 45,000 holding Ridge, is Val Halla's second choice for national stadiums, with the first being the new Plaza de Río in Sacarea being first choice.

SPORT | Multiverse Premier League
Raedburg drawn into Group B for the first season of the MPL

Monday, December 15, 2014

The National Soccer League’s biggest and most successful club, FC Raedburg, have announced their official participation in the first season of the Multiverse Premier League. The team have been drawn into Group B alongside Recreativo Bahía Peñas Blancas, Thereisnogodistan FC, Santa Barbara Storm, SC United and Metropolitan, and Ereazor 99.

It looks like Raedburg will see some major action from the first season of the Multiverse Premier League after being drawn into a group of some excellent clubs from all over the world, and also some brand new talent with the likes of Thereisnogodistan FC who have a fresh roster of players from the Fhulghamous Peninsula which was only just recently founded. Manager Dako Redfield has thought of giving Adriel Navas or even Víctor Váldes a chance between the sticks, and has also said that Edin Jesé may have a start.

The club to watch for Raedburg is Recreativo Bahía Peñas Blancas, hailing from the sporting country of San José Guyabal. They may employ cagey away tactics and give a strong performance at home. Redfield also went to watch Santa Barbara Storm matches, and has confirmed that they could be a difficult team to play with a defense who work well together, and a fierce attack. SC United and Metropolitan, a club from The Greater Vakolicci Haven could also pose as a threat to Raedburg, with a strong team possibly having to be fielded against the club. Ereazor 99, a club representing the Western Borderlands, could be a difficult team to play, employing a rather unusual 3-3-4 formation, with four forwards who seem to have a decent amount of experience.

Playing Style: Style modifier +1
Countess' tactics are predicated on having a solid defensive platform from which to build attacks. Typically, Dynapolis will play the ball out from the back, preferring not to play long balls out of defence unless necessary. On the attack, expect to see the physicality and athleticism of the forwards make more of an impact than the creativity and technical attributes of the attacking midfielders behind them.

Home Stadium: The Dragonpit, capacity 53,000
While previous incarnations of Dynapolis United have used The Dragon's Den, or the Benevolence Bowl as home stadiums, Metis have insisted that the club's original stadium be replicated. Building work was underway long before the club announced its intention to enter the MPL, and was completed in the spring. The stadium is built to resemble the Ancient Dragonpit of Banpo, said to have been used by ancient kings as housing for the legendary beasts from which the structure gets its name. Historians have suggested it more likely that the ancient House of Meilon -- which ruled over large parts of Rabastor (North Cyanea) prior to the establishment of the Kingdom of Osarius -- actually used the structure for war games and bloodsports, choosing the name based on their house emblem.

Fans:
Dynapolitans are generally a proud people, known for their particular love of bloodsports. As many of the peoples in the area are descendants of tribes known for producing warriors, the fans embody a similarly tribal, warrior-like mentality. The regional symbol is the dragon, culturally the counterbalance to the national symbol of the phoenix, and this underlines the Dynapolitan tendency to be quite contrarian when compared to Osarian culture at large. The club was once known as the "royal club" -- King George II played for the team, and was partly responsible for the founding of a professional football league in Osarius before ascending to the throne -- and enjoyed great wealth. After the club's initial dissolution, no incarnation since has come close to the wealth of the nation's richer clubs, leading many rival fans to mockingly refer to the team's wealth (Los Millionarios). Fans of the club, however, unfurl a banner prior to every game reading "Ezi uba" (true wealth), which became the club's unofficial motto during their previous incarnation, and the basis for the club's most popular chant.

Ownership: Metis plc
The long-time sponsors (and part-owners) of Firewood City made the decision to purchase Dynapolis United when the Osarian League of Association Football merged into LigAnaia, speculating that they could enter the club into a different league -- thus nullifying any potential conflict of interests through rivalry with Firewood City -- and capitalise on the then increased desire within Dynapolis (the region) for a local, elite football team. Initial estimates suggest that Metis were correct to take this approach, as pre-sale of season tickets sold out within two weeks. The revival of Dynapolis United's dedicated television channel -- through a lucrative deal with Astrarius Media -- has already guaranteed a return on the investment, though the ownership have decided to re-invest this cash into building a playing squad capable of challenging at an elite level. The long-term financial strategy for the club seems sound, and providing Dynapolis are playing top tier football in the MPL within three years, it is expected that the club will remain self-sustaining and will prove to be a highly effective investment.

Manager: Christian Countess (BAL)
The sixty-three year old former Dragons right back was, for a while, the club's record signing, and formed a crucial part of their title challenge in the now-defunct Balida Futball League. When the club was dissolved after a brief revival in Unitopolis, Countess stayed in Osarius, and coached smaller Dynapolitan clubs. Most notable was his stint at Charleston Athletic, where he led them to a Duchess Shield victory, and was in the process of returning the club to the Osarian top flight when the LigAnaia merge scuppered his plans. From there, he found himself at the OFA's Elite academy in Cavalane, Cerebremalium, as assistant director. This past summer, a call from multi-trillion credit investment firm Metis plc gave the former Balida international a way back into management, which he did not hestitate to take. Countess' main strengths are his tactical awareness -- partially a symptom of having spent so long in the Osarian coaching system -- and his innate understanding of defense.

Assistant Manager: Michael Tennant (OSR)
A former teammate of Countess, the fifty-six year old was known in his playing days for his cultured, yet physical, defending style. This has carried over into his coaching style. Tennant, much like Countess, has a preference for physical, bruising defenders who can just as easily advance into midfield with the ball to launch an attack. The two have a strong working relationship, having spent much of the last decade coaching side-by-side; and being on the same wavelength certainly hasn't harmed either man's career.

Squad:
As a technically new team, Dynapolis United have had to build a squad from pretty much nothing. Despite the club's restored riches -- nowhere near their historic wealth, but still formidable -- Countess has had to operate on a limited budget, scouting OLAF teams and highlighting some talented players. Aside from the ten signings made in recent months, many of the squad have actually been a part of Dynapolis United or the club's residual parts -- when the club was dissolved, all under nineteens on their books at the time joined other local clubs with shared commercial links -- and the core of the team was reformed months ago, minimizing concerns of chemistry and a need to "gel".

The squad list is below, with higher squad numbers typically suggesting the player is expected to have less playing time.

Signing a bunch of players on the fringes of the Osarian national team have served to boost the overall strength of the squad, at a cost of around fifty million credits these past few months. Most notable is the signing of Emilio Tapia, who is primed to break into the national squad on a more permanent basis in the near future, given the impending retirement of Roque Acosta. The young midfielder has been handed the captain's armband in recognition of his driven mentality and mature playing style.

Other notable signings include pacy Shanak winger Tony Daley, talented fullback duo Scott and Reid, the physical Aquilliano striker Anthony King, and promising deep-lying playmaker Zoe Barnes. A raft of youngsters poached from local academies rounds out the squad, and underlines the long-term plans Metis have in place for the team.

Typical starting lineup: [4-3-3] Monteforte; Scott, J. Tapia, Fraser, Reid; Pesciano, E. Tapia (c), Afolayan; Abiola, King, Daley

MINFORD FC

Background on the city:
Minford is a vast, beautiful city located in the north western region of Azrea. It was established as Azrea's national capital back in 1874, after the last battle of the Independence War was won here by Azrean forces. Population has drastically changed between 1900 and present day; fewer than 25,000 people called Minford home while today it houses 715,800. Sport has played a big role in the city's image; the Minford Magic have won the Azrean National Basketball League last season, and the soccer team has had tremendous success in the Azrean Premier League winning 4 titles in the last 7 seasons.

Club History:
Minford FC was founded by the President of the Azrean Premier League as an expansion team in 1969. The team started out as mid table contenders in their first decade of existence, amid financial difficulties. After winning their first title in 1990, they almost relegated the following season which lead to the firing of manage Dylan Thomas. For the next 15 years Minford mainly stayed within the top ten with the exception of the 1998-99 season, and the 2001-02 season. With inconsistent performances season after season, Minford signed their first international players in 2006 with Kyle Kline from Novincia, and several other players from the nations of Rokkenjima, and Communist Quintopia. These signings lead to the teams first title in over 15 years, and more came the next two seasons with more signings abroad. As of this season, Minford stands in 2nd place in the APL with 26 points.

Stadium:
Minford FC play in Azrea's national stadium Ellis Field which can seat 65,500 people.

Team Information:
Home Kits: Light blue shirts (like the color above), purple shorts, and white socks.
Away Kits: Black and purple striped shirts, black shorts, and purple socks.
Common Nicknames: the Panthers, the Minnies
Formation: An attacking 4-3-3.

Overview
There has been a huge amount of hype, and more than a little controversy surrounding Schottia’s newest football side Cornellians, who will compete in the upcoming MPL season. The team which will be managed by the ever popular U-21s boss Jock Sonny, have invested a huge amount of foreign money in acquiring players from the four corners of the region. Although he is yet to comment, it is believed that Sonny has had little say in any of the acquisitions.

Despite the storm surrounding Cornellians' conception there is no denying they can become a force to be reckoned with. With two regional cup-winning players in the side and a whole host of both internationals and rising stars, the only obstacle in their way is perhaps whether or not they can gel in time. Before the second half of the season Cornellians bolstered their squad with that addition of Gloraxian captain Eloisa Purinton and Cosumarian veteran defender Alexander Pearce

Coaching team
Joining Jock Sonny in the backroom staff is top TV pundit Bill Parker, and retired Schottic international Ian Mill. The former, famous for is his unconventional commentary and analysis will no doubt inject some character into the dressing room. Sonny has tendency a to make magic happen, as he showed this summer, taking the U-23s the quarter finals of the Olympic games, and the U-21s through two qualifying groups to the last 16 of the Di Bradini Cup

Stadium
Duke Street is a 45,000 all-seated stadium in the heart of the city of Handon. The Stadium is normally home to the Schottic national rugby team, however, permission has been given for Cornellains to share the facilities. Handon itself has outstanding public transport networks and the stadium is easily reachable by bus, train, or most likely tram.

Tactics and formation
Despite going with a 4-4-1-1 for the majority of their matches so far, Cornellians are likely to switch to a more conventional 4-4-2. This is largely in order to accommodate for new signing Eloisa Purinton, who will hope to form a strong partnership with leading scorer Daniel Cleopas. Both strikers have an excellent strike, are very comfortable on the ball, and like to take on the defenders.

In addition to this Jedorian midfielder Cosmin Dobrescu comes across to the left wing, with Scott Copper dropping to the bench. Other than that the Eagles go with a settled midfield, Willie McIntyre stays on the right, and central paring of Mark Kelman and Alizerian captain Sean O'Grady remaining intact. The skill and ball control of Dobrescu, and the raw pace of McIntyre will ask questions of most defences and should provide chances for the attackers. Kelman and O'Grady have shown time and time that they are assured players at this level, and provide an anchor in the midfield.

The back five remains more or less unchanged, with Pearce coming in for the departing Jenna Koemann the only change at leftback. Sebastian Muller keeps his place in goals after the Shalumite impressed his manager with a string of good performances. Jet heeled Adiran wingback Santiago Lowe also stays in the team, the defender who wishes he was a wing forward will be back to terrorise the opposition. And fledgling centreback duo Scott Buton and Edomite Michael Pabadakis will continue their promising partnership.

Amongst the notable substitutes are Deadoran striker Dahrla Bhosz and highly rated Schottic academy youngster Ismal Keirut. However Roman midfielder Lucius Hirtius Carus and U-21s keeper Jermey McNott will be familiar names to some of the fans. Bhosz has proven herself more than capable when called upon and Ismal Keirut has also come in and done a turn, both players have two goals to their name. Carus played well when asked to cover for Mark Kelman's suspension and will no doubt be ready to take his chance when it comes around again.

Burgunden
Image

Burgunden is the largest metropolis of Neu Engollon, located in the Zurich Canton. With a population of 14 million in a nation of 37 million, it truly seems out of place as a super city in the modest sized nation that is the Confederacy. The major financial center of the Confederacy, the Neu Engollon Stock Exchange, as well as most of the largest companies are located here.

The brewing industry has its origins here, and beer is one of the major exports of Neu Engollon, if not the most voluminous exported product. The world famous Alpen View Beer Festival happens every year here at Confederacy Park, near downtown. The major sponsor of the AVBF is Burgunden Breuerie, the largest, most successful company in Neu Engollon, with David Toft as its CEO. Franz Toft, his uncle, is the Neu Engollon Minister of Culture and Tourism, the other major sponsor of the Alpen View Beer Festival. The Toft family is extremely dominant in the business and societal affairs of Burgunden, and by extension, very influential in the Confederacy, probably rivaling the Tell family.

Banking is also prevalent here, with many banks conducting International business, investments and funding development projects from this northern Neu Engollian city. EngolBanc is the main national bank of the Confederacy and its headquarters is here. Several world banks also have major branches and administrative divisions here, as well.

* Confederacy Park is almost as old as Burgunden itself. It is used for many functions, but the main event it is dedicated to every year is the Alpen View Beer Festival. A huge pavilion is set up in the center of the grounds, with stages and brewer and food vendor tents surrounding it. On any given day you might also see a Pet expo, extreme sports or school league tournament. As well, they often set up a large blank screen and show movies, with the viewers allowed to bring a picnic meal, on several nights during the summer. Major concerts happen here as well with world class entertainers booked by the city.

* Breweries? Where does one start? There are many, but the city's namesake is worth the trip alone. Brewtourists from around the world come to see the main, classic Burgunden Breuerie.

* Movies: There is a Burgunden Film Fest every year.
You can also catch a regular film any night at a Paladin or Alhambra Cinema. Both companies show top rate films, both indies and blockbusters. They also both dominate the cinematic theater industry, both in Neu Engollon, as well as the rest of the world. The third biggest cinema house in Burgunden is Cine Bergen, which is independently owned.

* Tours of the stock exchange are given
* There are several world class museums, with many permanent and traveling exhibits
* Brought your clubs? Try some golfing at Burgunden Community Rec. Course.

* Next to the main Burgunden Breuerie, is the first Burgunden BreuPub. This is the most popular restaurant destination in the Confederacy as well as the home of the top chefs in the region. As you know, Burgunden BreuPubs can now be found all over the world, but this is original granddaddy of them all.

* There is an Attico Drinkerie, a global competitor of Burgunden BreuPubs, also in the city. These Ecossian guys have a good thing going and worth a trip if you have a second night after hitting the BreuPub, or save it for lunch. They have the AVBF gold medal winning Walrus Lager. Attico Drinkeries are headquartered in Nouvel Ecosse.

* The most prevalent chain of coffee shops in the world is CuppaCoffee. You can find a few in every major Neu Engollian city, but the largest one in the Confederacy is in Burgunden, which also boasts the regional headquarters. They are not prolific because they bludgeon one with marketing, but because they offer an incredible menu for a coffee shop and exceptional service.

* Major Sporting Venues:

Burgunden Dome (147,670)
~ Largest sports stadium in the Confederacy, the Mederano Peninsula and one of the biggest in the region of Astyria. While Toft Stadium has largely been maintained by the Toft family and Burgunden Breueries, the Burgunden Dome has seen a good infusion of government funds for maintenance, going back to the Ministry of Athletics being the major capital investor when it was constructed over 20 years ago. It is a major point of pride for the Ministry and for NEFA football in the Confederacy.

Toft Stadium (Burgunden) - Stada de Toft (114,788)
~ Named for one of the most famous families in Burgunden and in the Confederacy, the major family behind BDI and Burgunden Breuerie, this stadium is only dwarfed by the nearby Burgunden Dome a couple miles away, which hosts association football. Home of the Seasogs champion Burgunden Brawlers, Toft Stadium sells most of its seats for every rugby match held in its confines. The Brawlers are the current top sports team in the nation. Brawlers merchandise can be seen everywhere across the city and the northern parts of the nation, but especially on Saturday matchday afternoons in the pubs and bars that stretch for blocks away from the stadium.

* Major Sports Teams:

* Burgunden Brawlers - The premier rugby union club in the Confederacy, representing the largest city in Neu Engollon. The biggest budget out of all the AVRU clubs in the nation, they are owned by BDI and the Toft family, so they can recruit the best players. They have won the Union Championships several times and won a Seasogs title, a tournament of the top domestic clubs in the multiverse. They call Toft Stadium home.

* Burgunden Pikemen FC - The NEFA club in the city, and indeed, one of the top football clubs in the nation. Many of the top national players have been pulled to start in the most recent World Cups. The Pikemen have been selected to be the Neu Engollian team to represent the Confederacy in the Multiverse Premier League against other International club squads. Yet, considering the timing of the MPL season, they will still be able to compete in the NEFA Division One, as well. The Pikemen will be playing year round, but they will be the most well paid football players in the nation. They are sponsored by Burgunden Breueries, as are many of the Confederacy's sports teams. They call Burgunden Dome, the largest sporting arena in the Confederacy, and one of the largest in Astyria, home.

* Burgunden Bankers - The Helvetic Premier League Rugby club for Burgunden. They are the poor cousin to the Brawlers, with not nearly close to the budget or draw, but they have been gaining in experience and team cohesion over the years and have been rising in the IRLCC. They share the Burgunden Dome with the Pikemen.

New Beginnings

Part One

Jock Sonny cast his eyes over the incompatible assembly of mismatched players he was charged with moulding into some semblance of a playing squad. Looking up and down the line of men and woman of all different heights, ages, builds, and nationalities; the diversity was quite staggering. An Alizerian, a Shalumite, a Deadoran; knowing how the politics of the old Cornellian Empire worked, it would be a miracle if they could even get on for long enough to play a single game. Their one and only pre-tournament friendly was against SPL highflyers Handon United and it was being played (as had been agreed with the TV companies) in Novitera. With the squad list changing every two minutes Sonny wasn't exactly sure exactly which players he would be meeting on the training pitch.

The multiplicity of wealthy and influential people who were behind Cornellians FC were instant upon the club featuring certain players in order to make the TV rights attractive to as many nations as possible. Another thing was the shirt sponsor, Arcanum Armaments, an arms dealer? That was quite frankly ridiculous. In all his years in football Jock Sonny had never been so daunted and dismayed by any task he had undertaken. This is not what he had signed up to. The board of directors were continuously moving the goalposts. One of the few thing he had stipulated, one of the things of critical importance, was that he and the players had a quiet training session. The players needed a chance to get to know each other, an opportunity to mix as a group, not a high-profile friendly in some foreign city. It totally blew Sonny's game plan out of the water. He had been planning to start with some speech about how it didn't matter where they came from, they were just like any other club, and had to keep their noses to the grindstone. That would be a faintly ridiculous thing to say now, given set-up for the friendly.

His assistant was another thing. He had asked for Judy Scott, he had specifically asked for Judy. However, instead he had this bundling idiot Bill Parker. The guy weighed 20 stone, he was going to be some use on the training pitch. Well that was what you got when you selected on ability to pull one-liners rather than actual experience. The kind of person he needed by his side right now was some battle hardened coach who had been there, seen it, done it. Instead he had a wisecracking TV pundit who had never played professionally.

'Okay boys and girls.' Sonny said, clearing his throat. 'Let's...' But they were all talking amongst themselves, or at least the ones who knew each other were.

'C'mon guys, listen up!' Bellowed Parker, cupping both hands to his mouth. This got the teams attention, much to Sonny's dislike.

'I got you covered there buddy.' Said Parker quietly, placing a hand on Sonny's shoulder. 'Hey guys, news check!' He shouted to the rest of the team. 'When this man speaks you people listen. Comprendes?'

Sonny sighed before delivering his pitch:

'Okay, I'm going to guess English is the best language for most of us here?' He looked round at the affirmative nods of the head. 'Well that's a good place to start. We have a really hard game tonight against a very well drilled Handon United team, and at present, well I don't even know who all of you are let alone which positions you play. So we've got seven hours to get to know each other, work out our best formation and get ready to play one of the best club sides in Schottia.' Sonny sighed again looking round.

'Okay so maybe best we start with a couple of laps of the pitch, just get a gentle warm up. So lets strike while the iron's hot, okay after me.' Sonny always led his own training sessions and was remarkably fit for a 59-year-old.

'Buddy I might sit this one out, look over some player profiles for you.' Said Parker in way of an excuse for not joining in. In his current condition he looked like he wouldn't last half a lap. The man wasn't so much over-weight, he was closer to obese.

'Right you are Bill.' Said Sonny, wishing more than ever he had gotten his choice of assistant. 'Just make some notes eh, try and work out who they all are, and we can look over them later.'

'Sure thing buddy.' Parker patted him firmly on the back. 'Whatever you need me to do you just need to ask. I'm your man. No questions asked you can count on me.'

Jock Sonny wished that was true, but he had a funny feeling this was going to be a long season. If he even managed to last that long.
