The Cenian Open
Centre Court
The Singles Finals
Saturday – 11:45 am

It’s the day after.

It’s the day after those in the upper echelons of the tennis world looked down and discovered two doubles teams from the Andromeda Islands in the semi-finals of the Cenian Open. Some of the experts really looked down on the Andromedan players.

Who were these two young punks who were playing (2) Sonya Gredello and Rosa Levinski? Didn’t those boys know that they were playing the #2 doubles team in the world? Didn’t they understand that this was supposed to be a cake walk for the ladies from Electrum? Who were these upstarts?

Judah Smith and Mark Driscoll seemed oblivious to the fact that they didn’t belong. Instead, they simply played tennis. They played passionately. They were too stupid to understand that they were out of their league.

Even when reality crashed down on them, they fought defiantly against the inevitable, and many of the fans at the Grand Stand Court yesterday loved them for it.

Smith and Driscoll walk with Yelena Kazakova and Louis Rich to Centre Court that morning. Just yesterday, Kaz and Rich played on that same court against the #1 doubles team, the defending champions Elia Xal and Fia Xal.

The bald-headed babe and her pretty-boy partner had to know how the story was supposed to end, with the top two doubles teams facing off in the finals tomorrow morning, but they didn’t care. Kaz and Rich had to know that the Cenites they faced were supposed to make the finals of this tournament in their home country. They didn’t care.

Instead, they took the Xal Sisters to twelve games in the first set. Instead, they won the second set 6-4. Instead, the odd couple from Andromeda dared to tempt fate, keeping pace with the Xal Sisters in the final set until the very last game. After nearly 20 minutes, the Xal Sisters finally broke Kazakova and Rich, earning their place in the doubles final.

It’s the day after, and the four players arrive at Centre Court arrive to watch the singles final between #1 Elaine Foyner and #3 Ardil Navsal, both of whom are natives of Ceni. They arrive about 15 minutes before the match is scheduled to begin. The crowd starts cheering.

At that moment, all four of them, Kazakova, Rich, Smith and Driscoll, are confused. Smith looks down where the other Andromedans are sitting. They point up to the screen above Centre Court. The camera has focused on the four as they walked down to their seats. The crowd cheers as the two doubles teams from the Andromeda Islands arrived.

Andromeda has arrived.

OOC: Good luck to all of the finalists & Thanks to Ceni for running such a great tournament.

Cenian Open - IC Thread

Rising Stars and Cenian Hegemony
Two things that will probably be remembered about this Cenian Open are the rising stars and the extension of a practical lock of Ceni on the top ranks of both singles and doubles tennis. Indeed, two out of four semifinalists in doubles and three of the eight quarterfinalists in singles were first time were debutants to the final levels of tennis competition. John Galt and Tayler Labeau reached the quarterfinals as qualifiers, and Lonus Varalin recorded some top-notch wins in his first quarterfinal run. Qualifier Elizabeth Hines also made it to the Round of 16, as did qualifier Valeria Rome and Cenian wildcard Ellela Thotan. However, the importance of a single competition is decreasing. Currently, the four hundred and fifty points earned by a quarterfinalist (and the 465 earned by a qualifying quarterfinalist) puts a player at twenty-fourth and twenty-fifth, respectively. At the Electrum Slam, a debuting quarterfinalist with 465 points was ranked in the top ten. Clearly, the earlier one reaches a prime position, the more impact their points will have. However, these points will still have a big impact as players compete in their ultimate aim of reaching the top levels of the tennis world.

Cenian stars have also occupied the top places in singles and doubles tennis. Regardless of the result of today's final, Cenian Elaine Foyner will keep the world's no. 1 spot and Ardil Navsal will jump to no. 2. In doubles, Elia and Fia Xal are neck and neck with Sonya Gredello and Rosa Levinski, with other top-ten contenders over two thousand points behind. In singles, with Foyner and Navsal excluded, three other Cenians are in the top ten, with two others in qualifying position for the World Tour Finals. In doubles, there are three Cenian pairs in the top ten, with another one in Tour Finals qualifying position. This Cenian Open has done much to cement that position, with several Cenian players making big jumps in the rankings. With the year-end number one positions at stake in both singles and doubles, Cenian pairs will continue their dominance at the top if they continue with their good playing, good shot retrieval, and good shot making.
