Religion

The nation of Vaugania is devoutly Catholic. The ruling power in the country is the Vauganian Catholic Church, currently headed by Archbishop Ignatius XI. Under him is a Council of Bishops that rules on issues regarding Church doctrine and also serves as the upper house of the Vauganian legislature. Virtually 100% of Vauganians are adherents of Catholicism and have dedicated their lives to the practice. It would be best to simply not engage anyone on the matter of religion or issus such as abortion, stem cell research, or same-sex marriage while in the country.

Cuisine

Vauganian food is very protein and starch heavy. This stems from the blue-collar nature of a lot of the nation's major industries like manufacturing, mining, and logging. Cereals are a common fixture at breakfast, but on weekends, especially Sundays, one would normally have a larger breakfast that includes eggs, pancakes, and a breakfast meat. Sandwiches are very popular at lunches and they often are piled high with meat and cheese. As far as fruit and vegetables go, lettuce and tomato is common as a sandwich topping and bananas and oranges are not uncommon. For supper, the main course is almost always beef or pork. This will be served with either corn or a potato, occasionally both. Also, expect a grain.

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drugs

The legal age of conusmption for alcohol is 18. The maximum BAC to drive with is .05.
The legal age for tobacco use is 21. Note that there is a social stigma on the practice and it is illegal in public places.
All other drugs are illegal and there are serious fines for possession of marijuana and possible prison time for possession of harder drugs. Trafficking of any drug is a serious offense and will result in prison time.

Feel free to TG for more info.

ROYAL KINGDOM OF QUEBEC

Transportation

To arrive in Quebec you'll likely just want to fly in to the city that you will be playing in. The 3 cities going to be hosting the tournament, with all of them possessing a major airport. If you insist on arriving via waterways, then there's nothing to worry, as all 3 holds a port able to hold most vessels.

While travelling inside country, there are main methods you can use for this. The railways here isn't as quick as it'd be with other nations(the maximum speed being 225km for the fastest train service), but they are extremely punctual/on-time, popular and frequent(one train per 30 minutes), making it a very cost-effective and attractive option. Quebec does possess a strong auto industry and cars are somewhat prevalent, so you can travel via cars if interested. Flying between those three cities are not recommended as there are not only very few flights, but also there's no need for them.

Lodging

There will be some hotels of high-calibre(at least 4 star ones) available in those cities. However, those 4 cities being medium-sized cities, there will be some issues. The same will not be guaranteed with the visiting fans as there will be mass influx of Quebecois citizens as well, to watch the games. Therefore it is recommended to make reservations 3-4 months ahead of the tournament, in order to guarantee your reservation in the hotels around the city.

If you are still in trouble of finding hotel or motel suites, there will be hotels, motels and other modes of accomodation available at your expense, on towns slightly far away from the venues(50km-100km). For more information please contact Tourism Quebec or for more specific information any tourism agency of the city/cities you'll be off to(OOC: TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec if you have any questions or so).

Weather

Royal Kingdom of Quebec is located in Temperate and Polar regions, with the cities located in varying degrees of climate zones so all 4 seasons can be experienced each year, but with different extremes. As this tournament is held during the month of January, temperatures will be and stay below freezing, with an extreme possibility of frequent snowfall daily. This will not affect the train services and games however, with the latter being that all the games will be held indoors.

Right below this, there are some mentions of weather in the 8 cities that will host the WCoH:

Churchill: With temperatures down to -41°C in a strong winter day or to -26°C which is the average temperature of the city in the winter, it will be next to impossible for those in Churchill to go outside without either wearing 10 layers of warm clothing or using the city's extensive underground.

Winnipeg: Temperatures will stay around -9'C in the southern capital of Manitoba on an average day, but the city itself being located in middle of Great Manitoban Prairies and gigantic Lac Riel makes it a very windy, empty city in the winter days. Be careful walking around in the nighttime, especially in some tough neighbourhoods.

Sarnia: Temperatures fortunately will stay around -5'C in average day, with actual temperature being lot warmer due to Sarnia's abundance in manufacturing and chemical factories providing all the warmth and smoke for its lonely, winter days. The proximity to the Kamikwajaang River also helps.

London: Similar to Sarnia, without all the chemical factories in the river. Also, London's lot more suburban than Sarnia.

Attawapiskat: It is a perfect mix of Churchill and Winnipeg- It has both of the best worlds! While it has over 10cm of snowfall in an average January day, it also is very windy due to the very Northwestern City being located right next to the Roland's Bay. The only positive thing to lament your losses in the city, with everything going against you, is that the underground railroad and city systems are otherworldly.

Kenora-Thunder Bay: Kenora, being the largest of eight host cities for the tournament, is also the warmest. Despite being cold, extended snow free periods occur in most winter seasons and precipitation can be rainfall with temperatures sometimes climbing above 10 °C (50 °F). The average January maximum/minimum is −1 °C (30 °F)/−7 °C (19 °F) in the city. With Kenora being located right next to Lake Superior, it won't be as snowing as much but wind chills are frequent.

Rouyn-Noranda: Located in middle of the picturesque Tyrian Plains, Rouyn-Noranda is a very barren, freezing city. Temperatures remain below −12 °C and often below −25 °C at night (especially in the northern suburbs), with wind chills making it feel like −40'C instead. Without any vegetation in the area and with mining taking place all around the metropolitan area, it is a very windy place to be around. It's recommended that you bring or rent a car to the city as well, for the city's buses will still leave you with some exposure to the wind before entering that very destination of your preference.

Val d'Or: Val d'Or, on the other hand, is a fairly comfortable place to be around at in winter. With the area surrounded by nature reserves and being first nations land, the city itself is filled with plenty of vegetation(especially the trees) to provide some shelter and shrouds for its people. The presence of 20 lakes and 3 major rivers in the area also helps, as the temperature stays around -6'C at day and -8 to -14 degrees at nighttime. There'll be some precipitation of snow as well.

Languages

There are three official languages in this nation: English, French and Korean. All 3 languages are taught in school curriculum and with great depth, causing most of the population to be at least trilingual. Additionally, in this part of the nation there are some other First Nations languages being recognised as regional languages and are used+learned to great depth in schools, so please note this when you're RPing in Quebec. Most Quebecois you'll meet are extremely polyglot and that will show with way they speak.

When it comes to linguistic status on city that you're RPing on/about, you're more than welcome to TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec about it.

Money

The national currency of Quebec is Quebecois Dollar, which is fairly expensive. The current exchange rate is $3 NS for 1 Quebecois dollar. With the nation being rich with huge economy, almost everyone will have at least has a good deal of money here. So please don't feel surprised if the products are much more expensive here than back home, excluding alcohol.

Things you'll need in your stay, prices in NS Dollars (NS$) and Quebecois Dollars (Q$)

-Hotel: NS$ 35-400, Q$12-135
-Public transport in the cities: NS$2-$5, Q$0.7-1.7
-Bus transport to different cities: NS$5-50, Q$1.7-17
-Train transport to different cities: NS$6-80, Q$2-28
-Ferry between lakes: NS$5-$12, Q$1.7-4
-Flights between cities: NS$65-150, Q$22-50
-Average cost of food: NS$12-45, Q$4-15
-Hockey tickets: NS$60-600, Q$20-200 (TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec for hockey tickets of each match, for they all vary between arenas and matches)
-Bottle of water: NS$9, Q$3 (Sale of bottled water extremely limited, with public fountains providing very low interest for the people)
-Public phone: NS$1.5 per call, Q$0.5 per call

Entertainment

Mediums of entertainment are largely varied based upon where you go. It's time for a handy chart.

Winnipeg: Gambling(3 casinos in the area), Bars, Arcades, amusement parks, Rap concerts
Kenora-Thunder Bay: Lakefront (Lake Superior) attractions, Lakehead District Country Festival(largest country music festival in AO, if not multiverse)
Sarnia: Heavy metal concerts(54 venues in a downtown of 175,000 people)
Attawapiskat: Arcades, Nightclubs, Sailing and everything associated with water sports, fishing, Classical music
Rouyn-Noranda: Settler&Mining sites and museums around its past and present, Death Metal concerts
Val d'Or: Trekking across city's 59 ranges and valleys, Snow sports, Canoeing and Kayaking, sailing, Traditional Arts
London: Live (weekly) execution ceremonies, Country concerts
Churchill: Ecotourism(watching polar bears or beluga whales just few kilometres from the city), inuit traditional arts

Once again, if you have any questions, please TG the very guy behind this.

Cuisine

Quebecois cuisine has evolved through centuries of social and political change. Originating from dominant Korean and elegant French cuisine that came with settlers, as well as materials and existing food of the First Nations living in the area, Quebecois cuisine has evolved through a complex interaction of the natural environment and different cultural trends and is the best mix of it all.

Quebecois cuisine is largely based upon rice, other diverse kinds of grains, vegetables, and meats(in this area moose and caribou, and to rare cases bears). The meals are noted for the number of side dishes (banchan) that accompany steam-cooked short-grain rice. It varies on the personal preferences but often in every meal they eat at least some form of maple syrup, Kimchi and/or bread. Commonly used ingredients include sesame oil, doenjang (fermented bean paste), soy sauce, salt, garlic, ginger, pepper flakes and gochujang (fermented red chili paste). In this part of the nation, fish are caught off the rivers and lakes to be eaten in whatever the way one prefers as well.

Ingredients and dishes vary by region to region, with many. Many regional dishes have become national, and dishes that were once regional have proliferated in different variations across the country.
Meals are regulated by cultural etiquette, which are very hard to follow for even the average Quebecois due to all the processes they take.

TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec for any questions.

Religion

Quebec is a religiously diverse country, though divided when it comes to dominant regions. In the cities where the World Cup of Hockey will be hosted, First Nations' religions are widely practiced, with Quebecois Catholic Church and Buddhism right behind. Due to these differences, all three levels of Government keeps some separation from any religions, though they still hold some influences in those levels and receive lots of funding. It is also not recommended to argue about politics or religion in Quebec, as political and religious apathy is not known....for most part.

Laws

Culturally and socially, Quebec is in bit of a mix. Another handy chart will be in place to explain some of Quebec's laws in place:

Recreational drugs: Legal, though selling them without licence can lead to up to $10,000 in fines and 5 years in jail.
Hard drugs: Illegal, with punishments up to $50,000 in fines and 15 years in jail for possession and consumption of the drugs
Prostitution: Legal, though people's attitudes about it will be very conservative in this part of the nation
Pornography: Legal, aside from child pornography(applies to any pornographic videos or anything else starring people up to 18 years of age). Possession of child pornography will land you straight in jail for 5 years, while production and distribution of it can lead to potential death sentence. So, don't try it as it's a big no-no.
Legal age for tobacco: Varies (16 in Val d'Or and Rouyn-Noranda, 19 in Churchill and Winnipeg, 18 in rest)
Legal age for alcohol: 16
Maximum BAC to drive: 0.03.
Saying the word 'Coconut': Legal

All the foreign citizens caught under the Federal and/or Provincial law will not be extradited, unless of a special order given by the Emperor, His Imperial Majesty the Jacques IX.

Arenas

MTS Centre, Winnipeg

Hosting: First two games listed in Group A
Winnipeg, being the largest of all Quebecois cities west of Kingston and Attawapiskat, is the true regional centre and gateway to Western Quebec. The city, who also has a large First Nations and Guayabalense-Quebecois population, is a hockey and entertainment hotbed for all, with it constantly raking me off the draws. MTS Centre is the home of the Winnipeg Giants of the Quebec Hockey League(WHL) and Winnipeg Winterhawks of Western Hockey League(WHL). It has the capacity of 15,660 for hockey and 17,220 for concerts. With QHL expanding to Winnipeg sometime ago, it was built in 2013(4 years ago) as a shiny, brand new building for the hockey communities of the city, who fill the city with relative ease. MTS Centre is located in the heart of Downtown Winnipeg, with symbolic QNR station just a block away and business district right around it.

QNR Place, Churchill

Hosting: First two games listed in Group B
The Northernmost arena that's going to be used in the tournament, it is located in Churchill, right at the Northwestern corner of the region by the frozen, deep Arctic Ocean. Churchill is an extremely small city with the populace of around 175,000 people in the city in the Arctic zone and main industries being ecotourism, fishing and shipping industries. QNR Place, the 9,750-seater, is a small but extremely historic arena in the region with lots of history but next to no modern amenities. It is located at the western end of the town, with the highway and 2 bus routes connecting them from Downtown and the railway station, which is around 15 minutes away. They've got excellent arena food though, with caribou meat and fries being the main ones.

Carlton Centre, London

Hosting: First two games listed in Group D
London, on the other hand, is totally different to its western playmate 108 kilometres away. It is more of white-collar city, a regional centre of health care and education, with its economic activity is centering on education, medical research, insurance, and information technology. It is a regional transportation hub, lying at the junction of Highway 11 and 12, a train station with two lines junctioning, and a decently-sized municipal airport. Aside from that, it is a fairly boring to stay.
Carlton Centre, named in honour of legendary brewers Carlton Family, is a 12,300 seater arena home to WHL franchise London Knights. Opening in 1996, it is a fairly decent arena when it comes to amenities, but the atmosphere is dependent of the presence of college crowd(in which there are lots, due to 3 universities being located in the area).

Pemashwin County Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Sarnia

Hosting: Last two games listed in Group C
Sarnia, on the other hand, is the southernmost arena for the Quebecois part of the tournament, right by the Kamikwajaang River and Quebecois-Austenersian border. And as anyone could figure out, it is the most blue-collar of the cities. Chemical and manufacturing factories are everywhere and with the presence of factory workers the area itself is predominantly masculine and rough in nature. Therefore it is of no surprise that 16,430-seater by the name of Pemashwin County Veterans Memorial Coliseum(PCVMC) is host to QHL defensive powerhouse by the name of Sarnia Spark. The arena itself is right next to the rougher, blue collar part of the city with those in attendance for hockey games being lot more rowdy, but also friendly to hang around with. Then there's poutines and local meals provided at the restaurants available in the arena, with quantities and qualities far greater than other arenas.

Kozlovka Place, Kenora

Hosting: Last two games listed in Group B
In the city of Kenora, it is Kozlovka Place that'll host the games. Blessed by the picturesque Lake Superior, beautiful nature on the Lakehead region, as well as being socially conservative and more country-bound, Kenora, along with Twin Cities(Trojana and Trojanajara), is home to the Multiverse's hotbed of country music. Kozlovska Place, a state-of-art arena hosting QHL(Quebec Hockey League) team Kenora Thunderwolves and QIS(Quebec Intercollegiate Sports) team Lakehead Thunderwolves, is a 16,430-seater that looks to provide some taste of Quebecois country into the world of hockey. It is also among the finer arenas in the nation.

Lankabank Coliseum, Val d'Or

Hosting: Last two games listed in Group D
One of the great pleasures of Quebec, is the juxtaposition of cultures between the four solitudes within Canada. Through a landscape that is both virgin and scarred from nearly a century of extracting wealth from the ground, this large city of 1.85 million people is memorable and standing out on its own. The local Crees and Inuits are everywhere both in town and at the rink, and the unique, passionate Aboriginal flavour in Val-d'Or, with the city itself being located at the native land and natives being 56% of the population, holds the torch of Abitibi-Temiscamingue province as ICly Minnesota of Quebec. The city's on its rise as a winter sports mecca, as well as native-led tourism industry, of Quebec.

Lankabank Coliseum, built in 1956, is a 23,480-seater arena. It is tiny and devoid of anything recent but 30 press boxes at the very top floor(built in 1994), but filled with things that makes the arena beautiful- Aboriginal culture permeates the building around the edges while the intimacy of the building, the atmosphere and friendliness+unique-cultured natives provide the icing of this cake. Its location and arena food is also mention-worthy, as the Coliseum itself is right in the centre of Val-Blanc and Val-Bleu Rivers' junction and a nature reserve, while being just 5 minutes away from the low-rising downtown. Arena food and beer are done in local style, with them having some of best wines and traditional Korean/First Nation beverages available, cheap and tasty.

Minecorps Centre, Rouyn-Noranda

Hosting: Last two games of Group A
Another of two Abitibi cities hosting this year's WCoH tournament, Rouyn-Noranda of course is the odder and tougher one. The city itself is home to one of largest Norrish communities outside of Norrehavn, with around 56% of Rouyn- having some Norrish roots either through civil union or family. Without any vegetation in the Great Tyrian Plains, as well as mining taking place all around the metropolitan area, it is a very windy, snowy and isolated place to be around. As a result, people and the area itself is lot more economically and mentally depressed. People there are also rougher in nature similar to those in Sarnia as well, but this in turn leads to the city producing many professional athletes in sports where physicality is demanded, as well as lots of writers and workers in performing arts.

The low capacity, high-energy crowd, and run-down charm lends a very cool old-school atmosphere to attending a game at Rouyn-Noranda's Minecorps Centre. Like its eastern buddy, the 15,430-seater is a very historical arena, but with more of old-school, English-Norrish atmosphere into it. The arena is located right by a gigantic smelter and railway station in Noranda, more economically-depressed part of the city. Its arena food consists of traditionally hot, substantial meat and fish dishes such as Flæskesteg (roast pork with crackling) or Kogt torsk (poached cod).

Quebecom Centre, Attawapiskat

Hosting: First 2 games listed in Group C
Attawapiskat (/ˌætəˈwɑːpɨskæt/ Cree: ᐋᐦᑕᐙᐱᐢᑲᑐᐎ ᐃᓂᓂᐧᐊᐠ Āhtawāpiskatowi ininiwak, "People of the parting of the rocks"; unpointed: ᐊᑕᐗᐱᐢᑲᑐᐎ ᐃᓂᓂᐧᐊᐠ) is an isolated city located in the northwestern corner of Northwest, Royal Kingdom of Quebec, at the mouth of the Attawapiskat River at Guerin Bay. Attawapiskat has been a mining city for its entire existence, owing its existence to two mineral deposits that were nearby. Royal Āhtawāpiskatowi Deposit, located northwest of the city of 750,000, was the World’s largest Diamond deposit, while Northland-Denver Deposit, which is 50km away to the northeast, was the World’s largest Emerald deposit. Recently however they have been diversifying their economy into telecommunications and trades, bringing the city additional economic boom. As a result, Politics-wise, it has been a conservative and traditional area, which was shown through the dominance of Parti Quebecois in last several provincial and federal elections.

That being said, at the centre of its life stood hockey. Hockey, like many northern cities, was integral to most citizens’ lives and was well followed. Attawapiskat had its shares of championships in all of its three integral sports: Basketball, Gridiron Football and most importantly hockey.

Quebecom Centre(capacity: 18,910), the mighty hockey stadium that will host the Final or Third-place series, will be the host venue for Attawapiskat. Located 2 blocks away from the railway station, it is located right in the small downtown of this city. Despite some age(being built twenty years ago, in 1997), Quebecom Centre has all and best of amenities that is now a mainstay in modern arenas. It is home to QHL team Attawapiskat Avalanche and has been used for countless of national hockey tournaments in different levels. Sadly, the arena food is not as good as in other cities and people often complain over inconsistent quality of services and infrastructures in the arena.

Go crazy, but don't kill Lord Almighty Gregory. However, expect reciprocation if you injure/kill my players. Also, if you mention my country in an RP but don't call it by its full name (i.e. "Gregoryisgodistan" without any special formatting in the middle) please TG me to give me a heads up.You don't need to wait for permission and I might not even reply. I often search for my country's name so I can respond to RP's more easily, but if you don't mention it by name, that doesn't work. You can also mention it by name in an OOC note somewhere in the RP instead of TG'ing me, since then it will show up in a search. If for whatever IC reason you decide to strike the "isgod" in the name of the nation, as in Gregoryisgodistan, that will not suffice as notification as it will not show up in the search. In that case, TG me or mention my name without the strike either IC-ly or OOC-ly somewhere in your RP. If the formatting effects the whole name (i.e. Gregoryisgodistan, it will still show up in search, so you don't need to do anything else.

Actor 81248D8J is well-known for playing Doybert on the hit TV show "Costa Lunians Say the Darndest Things". Other than that, none of our players are big names.

We will wear dark uniforms for home matches. For away matches, if our opponent wears a dark uniform, we will wear white. If our opponent wears white, we will wear our dark uniform.

Lord Almighty Gregory recently announced the construction of Willingsley Arena, which will host its first games during the upcoming World Cup of Hockey. It seats 9,500, with room for an additional 570 fans of the visiting team to be hung from the rafters. No other visiting fans will be allowed in the arena.

What's a Pervert Chaser? Sounds inappropriate.
A pervert chaser is someone whose job it is to chase down those accused of sexually-related crimes, like mooning, nudity, indecent exposure, rape, and molestation, and cut off their private organs, then bring them in for trial, sentencing, and either a fine, slave labor, or execution depending on the offense.

Do you have any strange laws?
Yes, lots. All citizens are required to worship Lord Almighty Gregory numerous times each day, sing the national anthem every hour on the hour, and obey numerous other laws under harsh threats of penalty. For instance, uttering the word "coconut", farting, and eating any food other than gruel or prune juice, among numerous other crimes, are punishable by death.

Oh my god, will we have to follow these laws too?
Gregoryisgodistan respects freedom of religion for foreign visitors as long as the visitor's home country respects the freedom of Gregoryisgodistanis to worship Lord Almighty Gregory, their head of state and claimed deity. If you are from a country that has freedom of religion, you will not be subject to the laws of Gregoryisgodistan, with the exception of those against murder, theft, etc. If, on the other hand, your country only allows a state religion, and/or has banned the Church of Gregoryisgodistan, we will enforce our religion and laws on you full force and expect you to follow them or face the same consequences our citizens would.

What's a Horse Beater?
One form of entertainment in Gregoryisgodistan is where a Horse Beat beats horses with all sorts of torture devices, like whips, maces, pepper spray, and machetes, until the horse dies a horrible painful death. It is like rodeos, only more gruesome. These horses are randomly caught in the countryside by Horse Snatchers, then sold to Horse Recruiters, who bring them to the Horse Beating Show.

I'm from a country with sapient ponies. Should we be afraid?
Our laws prevent sapient beings from being beaten, but also define sapient beings as humans or intelligent extraterrestrials. So alien ponies need not worry. Earth ponies, on the other hand, could theoretically be caught, but as long as they do not roam the countryside with wild, non-sapient ponies, they should be fine, since horse snatchers typically do not look for horses in hotels or hockey rinks.

What's an Enemy Crusher?
Enemy crushers are very heavy Gregoryisgodistani government agents whose job it is to crush and torture criminals to get them to reveal information. They almost always kill the criminal. Enemy Crushers at the World Bowl and World Cup of Hockey, among other tournaments, crushed to death numerous fans, referees, and opponents. They were then rewarded by the Gregoryisgodistani government.

Should I be afraid?
Just don't anger an Enemy Crusher and you'll be fine.

Which players like to fight?
The pervert chasers, prison guards, and slave beaters are very prone to fights due to their violent professions. Additionally, the Enemy Crushers have been known to crush opposing players, referees, or spectators. This often results in their deaths, much like what happened at the World Bowl. Nobody other than Enemy Crushers are capable of killing anyone, though pervert chasers carry their private-cutting knife with them at all times, and in the event a player, coach, fan, or spectator commits a sexual-related crime during a hockey match in Gregoryisgodistan, they will cut off their privates in the middle of the match. It might even happen in road matches. This will be very painful. So basically, don't indecently expose yourselves and you should be fine.

Please refer to players by their full name at all times. For instance, our starting goalkeeper should be Enemy Crusher Franky "Fatso" McFattel and our left wing should be Weatherman 92UDH9111. This follows the typical Gregoryisgodistan naming format, which is title and government ID number, except for government VIPs which are title and name. Use both at all times. Do not just say McFattel or 92UDH9111.

The demonym is Gregoryisgodistani. The ice hockey team is nicknamed the Ice Slaves, and you may use this nickname.

Notes

Prince Josephus is a younger brother of the King of Saintland. He is also the younger brother of Prince Ioannes and the twin brother of Prince Andreas. Line #1 is the scoring line and the one that handles power plays and penalty kills. Clovius is the 2-time reigning league MVP in Saintland. The Trebatius brothers, Doessenius brothers and Murrius brothers are the brother combinations on this team. In ice hockey, as in every team sport, the style of play in Saintland's national league is very physical and many things that are considered fouls in international play aren't fouls in Saintland. Sanctii defensemen are very likely to get into fights at the slightest provocation, if their team is losing or if they are facing a rival and/or somebody they really don't like. This team won the silver medal at the Winter Olympics, but only won 2 out of 10 games at the 21st World Cup of Hockey, where they were plagued by injuries and the distraction of also competing in field hockey and lacrosse. After WCoH 21, most of the players on the team began playing domestically in Quebec. This led to a successful 22nd WCoH which saw them finish second in a tough group, at the expense of Qazox. Despite hosting the 23rd WCoH, their performance at the event was disastrous, finishing just 3-1-5, 7th in a 10 team group. WCoH 24 was a return to form for the Sanctii, who made it to the Round of 24 before losing to Vaugania in 3.

REPUBLIC CITY --- With an early exit from the Twenty-Fourth World Cup of Hockey and a depressingly dismal performance at the Royal Alexandre Hockey Invitation in Quebec, the ICe Bisons have managed to collect themselves and return to the stage that has given them the most success; the rinks of the World Cup of Hockey

"It was a bit harsh," spoke Team Captain Hakoda Ishii at the media days for the Itakawai Lightning at the start of the 2014.3 Season. "We took a fresh group of players on new lines and it just didn't pan out the way we thought it would."

"It was what it was,"
was the commentary provided by Head Coach Kad Skirata; someone many in the Avatarian hockey community have been calling to step down following performances which could hardly be considered 'successful'. "I thought I put together are strong group of young players and really thought that they would have been able to pull us out of that slump we fell into after the Ko-oren shootout loss. Unfortunately, we went to Quebec with new lines and a new style... and the only thing we managed to do was bring down the World Champions with our only victory of the tournament."

The Ice Bisons are certainly not used to facing such low records; the last time the team held a non-winning record in a tournament was all the way back in World CUp XVI where the team was 1-3-2. The only victory in that tournament came from a 3-nil shutout against Carasatoga.

"I remember that game," reminisced Sato Sorua, who was a 20-year-old leftdfence men still at the University of Kibago when he played his fifth game for the National Team. "It was a hardd-fought game, and I remember thinking to myself that being on the National Team and looking at a nil-2-2 record was not something I ever wanted to do again. Yet, in the RAI, by the time we got a victory, we were nil-2. Not my proudest moment."

With such little success from the line changes and transfusion of new players, many are wondering if Skirata is planning on going back to the old lines and the old style. While he did not comment on the issue of the roster announcement — Something Skirata has always been tight-lipped on until after the National Sports Council and the Hockey Federation of Gyatso-kai's respective announcements — he did have this to say in a released statement just days before the National Sports Council released their roster announcement:

Any time you begin to shift away from veteran players who have been the foundation of the National Team since the very beginning, there is a transition period where new players learn the skills needed to compete at the top of the world. Transition periods are always difficult, especially when they happen within a year of winning the World Cup. However, if we want to repeat that feat in the ever-evolving world of Multiverse Hockey against the likes of Gregoryisgodistan, Havl, Ko-oren and countless other up-and-coming teams, we must change. We must adapt, we must bring in new blood, we must succeed through adversity.

Kad Skirata, Head Coach, Gyatso-kai Men's National Ice Hockey Team

Unlike World Cup XXIV, where the National Team played the first stretch of games here in Gyatso-kai, World Cup XXV returns to the old format of travelling to the host nation for the Group Stage. World Cup XXV also makes history in that it is being hosted by two nations in a style reminiscent of the World Cup of Association Football. Thanks to their ranking as the seventh best team in the world — a slight fall from their post-World Cup XXIII rank of #2 — the Gyatso-kai drew a very exciting group that will see play in the Catholic nation of Vaugania:

Group Stage Breakdown

Group F

7Gyatso-kai
12Equestrian States
26Nassau-Hessen
34Soviet Canuckistan
57Mapletish
NRBandwagon
NRSchutzenphalia &
West Ruhntuhnkuhnland
NRNovaya Zemlya

With the return of not one of our team's greatest rivals, but another team we once held a spirited rivalry with, Group F is set to be very exciting.

The team from the Pony Republic of Equestrian States are not someone we have faced in sometime; with our last matchups found in the Nineteenth World Cup where in the second game of the Group Stage, we brought them to a 4-1 defeat, only to inspire a 3-nil shutout on the second leg of the stage. A nation that has never advanced out of the Round of Sixteen and has perenially topped their respective group, they are certain to provide a challenge to the Ice Bisons. Given the Ponyist population within Gyatso-kai, it is likely that this game will draw many Pony fans of hockey from Gyatso-kai; perhaps even Shao Moon, the first ever Pony to make the National Team, will be in attendance.

From the Grand Duchy of Nassau-Hessen comes one of our team's more spirited rivalries. Having faced them in our championship run back in the Twenty-Third World Cup, the team from Nassau-Hessen are known for giving us one of the toughest games in World Cup XXIII, and to say that the Ice Bisons are not a bit excited to settle back into a renewed rivalry is an understatement.

Soviet Canuckistan is a name which bears some interesting history in the Mutliverse of Ice Hockey; when you see them play, they are always a topic of great discussion and speculation. However, they are known for coming and going almost as frequently as a shadowsnake, taking the occassional World Cup off to regroup and come back stronger. With just a single game against them — an even-keeled 5-4 victory in the 3rd ROund of the Upper Bracket in World Cup XXIII — the Ice Bisons are sure to be watching quite the highlight reel of Soviet games before their matchup on Matchday Seven.

Coming on the first day of the World Cup is our team's most storied rivalry which has stood the test of time. Returning to the Ice Hockey scene in a big way are the Mapletish Lions, who back in the forming days of Avatarian Multiverse Sports were always a challenge to face, both on the ice and on the pitch. Though in hockey they only faced us twice — the Round of Sixteen in World Cup XVII — it is in football that this rivalry has been fueled; with a record of 3-1-2 dating all the way back to the Fourty-Fourth Baptism of Fire, the Mapletish Lions are one opponent the Ice Bisons are sure to be gearing up for long in advance of the first matchday.

The rest of Group F is rounded out by three unheard of and unranked teams. The nations of Bandwagon, Novaya Zemlya, and, the longest name in Multiverse Hockey since Abcdefghijklmopqrstuk, Schutzenphalia & West Ruhntuhnkuhnland are set for some exciting play in a group with such history. In fact, the only way this group could have been any better would have been the return of Golden Apples of Cotdelapoms, the She-Beasts Cassadaigua, and the Robot Overlords of Plutoni.

A man can dream...

As has almost become expected, GyatsoAir --- in partnership with the AHL and the National Sports Council --- have further reduced the prices of airline tickets to Vaugania to facilitate the spectatorship of our national team in the Group Stage, as well as reducing prices to Quebec should we advance out of the Group Stage and matches are held therein. In addition, each game the Ice Bisons play in shall be aired on the entire ASPN family of networks (ASPN Prime, ASPN2, AVS, ASPN3, UASPN): All other games shall air on the World Sports Nation and World Sports Nation PLUS, which are being made available on all television and internet-provider services at NO COST from now until the conclusion of the World Cup of Hockey.

After replacing the 'Great Wall of Shu' four years ago, Zhao Hotaka has proven to be a worthy starting netminder for the Ice Bisons. He continues to flourish at home, leading the Republic Capitals to three consecutive Kuruk Cups before the retirement of Head Coach Nanuq Antinanco after fifteen years at the helm.

His style of play is very reminiscent of Shu, credited with teaching Zhao back at BSSU. A mixture of the profly with more classic butterfly style thrown in, Zhao's quick reflexes prevent many a rebound from getting past him. In addition, being a full five centimetres taller than Shu, Zhao is able to cover a bit more net and keep the goals from getting past him. His original role on the Ice Bisons was to come in and save Shu, rescuing many a performance, though now, starting with the first line, it may be Zhao who will one day need saving.

LD – 32– SATO Sorua
Height: 191cm - Weight: 101kg – Age: 28 years old – Hand: R - Team: Beijing Stars

A strong defenceman who Skirata has favoured since the Third World Junior Hockey Championships, Sato Sorua is a integral piece of the Bisons' defence. Into his seventh professional career season, Sato has continued to enjoy success both on and off the ice; with his eighth selection to the national team comes the birth of his first son just weeks before the start of the Tournament.

A strong defence player, Sato originally played the right side of the ice, however, Coach Skirata feels that a good defenceman can play both sides and as such, Sato has been switched up to test the theory. One of the greatest back-skaters in the game, he has become a regular facet of the Ice Bisons' defence. Even though he struggled in the Royal Alexandre Invitational to adjust to the absence of Pakku Ito on the first line, thanks to a trade from the Northern BuffaloYaks putting Hiteki Kia with him throughout the 2014.3 Season, the two have solidified their relationship.

Height: 190cm - Weight: 94kg – Age: 24 years old – Hand: R - Team: Northern BuffaloYaks

A impressively sized Northern Watertribesman, Hiteki Kia made his official team debut when he was called up to replace the injured Iwai Itsuki during WCoH XXIII. Before the start of the Royal Alexandre Invitational, Hiteki made even bigger headlines when he was selected to replace the venerable Pakku Ito who had been relegated to the second line. Known for his physical play, Hiteki is not afraid of boarding whoever has the puck and getting it up ice. He has strong passing skills, only slightly weaker than Ito, yet it is his youthful speed and agility which led to the 'Changing of the Back Guards' as it has been termed in local media.

Known for his "clean-up skills", Hiteki is a more reserved player than his left counterpart, Ko Piandao. His accuracy is mediocre at best on the shot, but his ability to poke-check and contain the puck within the blue makes Hiteki a solid addition to a line that has not seen very much success in its last two outings in Multiverse play. In his first Cup on the main lines, Hiteki was able to score two goals and garnish two assists on the third line; one better suited at "damage control", yet he was the deciding goal against The Fair Republic, as well as the go-ahead go against Havl. Now on the first line, it is expected that Hiteki will continue to produce... or Skirata may regret this decision.

A solid winger capable of playing both sides of the ice equally, Arnook Ishida has managed to finally find his place as a mature winger. After six years in Cotdelapoms with the Albionpool Oak Leafs, Ishida made a triumphant return to the AHL, signing a three-year, 8 million yuan contract with his old team the Makapu Flames which has proven to be quite the deal for the Flames. However, at the end of his contract, Ishida was quickly traded to the BuffaloYaks in exchange for two younger players and a second round draft pick; perhaps a signal of his aging concerns

Despite a slow showing in WCoH XXIII, Ishida came into his own in WCoH XXIV; managing to score four goals and earn six assists in a short tournament, Ishida proves he deserves to be on the first line. A quick skater known to be very physical when the game calls for it, Ishida continues to mature through both his international play, but also his mutliverse play. His renowned slapshot --- credited for two of his goals in the RAI --- has improved its accuracy, and Ishida has loss his nickname as the 'Northern Loose Cannon'.

The star forward of the Itakawai Lightning, Hakoda Ishii returns to lead the Ice Bisons after managing to record the most appearances on the National Team (Tied with Pakku Ito) as well as the Most Goals Scored; earning his Century mark in goals last World Cup.

A strong centre, Ishii is able to coordinate many a great highlight goal: With tremendous vision and terrific passing skills, he is the best two-way player in Gyatso-kai. Looking to do even better this time around, you can be sure that Ishii shall light the lamp at least once every game. Despite the viewing of his World Cup XXIV performance as his swan song by many critics, Skirata kept Ishii on the first line going into the Royal Alexandre, as well as now going into the World Cup.

The first ninteen-year-old to make the first line since Sato Sorua made his debut back in World Cup XVI, Song Unataq fills out a predominately Watertribe first line. A Waterbender from the Southern Tribes, Song joins the Northern Pair of Ishida and Ishii. Song has taken the collegiate hockey realm by storm thanks to not only a five-goal game against the University of Omashu opening night of the 2014.2 ASCA season, but maintaining a 2.1 goal average per game throughout that ASCA season. Eventually, though, a high wrist strain would end his record-setting season at Adirolf, an after weeks of healing treatments, Song looks to continue to prove his mettle as he dones the National Kit for the first time on the World Cup stage.

In what has been called the 'Defence Shakedown of History', the second line of the Ice Bisons' defence saw a change in the relegation of Ko Piando to the third line. When the call was made, Skirata neeed an impressively sized man to bring in and keep that solid wall designed to shut down an opponent's offence and maybe send a couple of players to the locker room for injuries. What Skirata found was an Omashuese right-hander who has kept his college team alive despite giving up an average of 3.2 goals a game against the first line by shutting out from the second line 85.3% of the time. In Shao Lee, we look to the future of the second line.

Standing at 190cm and tipping the scales at 110kg, Shao is no small man. However, with great size also comes a lesser speed than what the Ice Bisons have grown used to in the speed pairing of Hiteki and Ko over the last two World Cups. Also, as a pure defencemen, Shao is not the assist-making machine that Ko was. However, perhaps it is time for our second line to change its purpose...

RD – 32– Pakku ITO - ASSISTANT CAPTAIN
Height: 193cm - Weight: 108kg – Age: 36 years old – Hand: R - Team: Itakawai Lightning

The seasoned veteran of the Defensive line, Pakku Ito is returning to National Team for the ninth time, albeit for the first time not on the starting line. At 36-years-of-age, Ito is settling into his twilight --- most players retire around 40 --- and yet, he still possesses the vitality of a man ten years his junior. In fact, in the team's victory over The Transalpine Republic in World Cup XXIII, Ito recorded his Century for the Ice Bisons; one hundred caps made even sweeter by the game-winning goal.

Great on the backskate and known for perfect poke-checking skills, Ito’s greatest strength is his ability to read the ice and predict the play with an uncanny certainty. He isn’t afraid of getting rough, which with his Mandalorian background, should come at no surprise. Now on the second line, Ito is expected to continue using his size and speed to pair with the younger behemoth Shao Lee. Of course, Ito has a great deal to teach and give Lee from nearly a decade of bashing players into boards and stealing pucks in the Ice Bisons sweater.

LW – 26 – Walon VAU

Drafted by the Itakawai Lightning in the second round during the 2012.2 AHL Draft, Walon Vau had an incredible two seasons before the 2013.1 Lockout; having won multiple awards, Vau has proven he is much more than the collegiate background to Kal Skirata.

Given his strong backhanded shots, Vau is known for his trademark backward's skating goals at KSU; sending a puck on his left side while skating backwards at the last minute. A little childish in Skirata's opinion, but none the less, it garnishes the support of the fans who always enjoy a little showmanship. After working during the off-season with Hakoda Ishii since joining the Lightning, Vau has continued to show improvement. A career mark in World Cup XXIV, Vau recorded his 100th Cap at the age of twenty-six against Semarland.

Height: 183cm - Weight: 87kg – Age: 26 years old – Hand: R - Team: Whale Tail Whalers

Wad'e Tay'haai has hit a bit of a funk. After a low-scoring outing in World Cup XXI, Tay'haai returned to Itakawai to have his first 30-goal season. Whatever the reason, the success Tay'haai first had in the AHL cannot transfer to the World Cup, and in fact, this issue seems to have infected his AHL performances now as well; after the 2014.1 season in which he scored less than 20 goals, the Itakawai Lightning made the heartbreaking decision to trade the former KSU Star to the Whale Tail Whalers to make room under the salary cap to allow for some post-season shuffling. This trade seemed to also signal the end of his first-line run on the National Team. When asked why the shift from the front, Skirata said that perhaps allowing Tay'haai more time to play with his former collegiate teammates would inspire him again, and see an improvement to his game. After the failures of the twenty-fourth World Cup and the second Royal Alexandre Hockey Invitational, some are questioning whether Tay'haai has what it takes to be a multiverse star.

An impressive winger with a very defensively-minded style, Tay'haai continues to show his strengths in skating and the face-off circle. While the shift from right-wing to centre may change his playstyle, Tay'haai still enjoys the face-off; having never lost a face-off in his entire ACSA career and a mere thirty in his six season with the Lightning and only two with the Whalers.

RW - 44 – Kal SKIRATA
Height: 194cm - Weight: 89kg – Age: 25 years old – Hand: L - Team: Montréal Cotdelapomais (CDP)

A natural talent, Kal Skirata's skill comes as no surprise, given the history of the Skirata Clan in the Avatarian Sports. While originally suspected to play his first professional game in Gyatso-kai, Skirata would stun the Republics by signing a two-year contract with the Montréal Cotdelapomais, taking his amazing talent and youth to the CHL. While some back at home feel Skirata betrayed his family with the move, however, his father even came out in support of his son's decision; stating the move would introduce the younger Skirata to more styles of play and gain him 'an invaluable experience'. Nonetheless, in his very first season in the CHL, Skirata would come away with not only the Lapointe Award for the Best Rookie, he was able to take the Cotdelapomais to the Dumas Cup final in which he would face off against Shu and the Royals. A touching moment after the final game was when Shu and Skirata came together in the last line, and gave each other a solemn bow before embracing one another.

Now, coming to the end of his second CHL contract, Skirata is showing no sign of slowing down, and continues to develop into a well-rounded right wing who can play both sides of the ice, as well as a player with the vision to one day be a play-caller should he ever return to Gyatso-kai.

Some other players might need to retire first...

LD – 18 – KO Piandao
Height: 188cm - Weight: 95kg – Age: 34 years old – Hand: R - Team: St-Fortunat Saints(CDP)

Incredibly accurate with his passing and known for his interception skills, Ko has seen some great development while he played in Cotdelapoms. His strength is still one of his greatest assets, an asset he is not afraid to use on the ice; known for putting more than his fair share of men into the boards, Ko garnishes at least two penalties a game for his roughness... Something he is proud of. Many analysis in Cotdelapoms feel that he is simply too good for the Saints, and with a three-year contract coming to an end, maybe he will move around.

Absent from the Royal Alexandre Hockey Invitational, Ko spent his time off training back in Gyatso-kai under renowned Hall of Fame defenceman Murakami Osamu at his personal ranch in Norg Bral. Time that would seem was well spent, considering Ko beat out both the veteran Feng Tao — who seems to have decided to take a year off to spend with family following his wife's diagnosis with breast cancer — and the younger Hiroki Ikegami who managed to shine in the tarnishing performances at the RAHI.

When asked to describe Ko, Coach Skirata compared him to his namesake, the dao — or sword — in that he teters on the edge of a finely-honed blade, and just a simple push will slice you in half: Ko is known to divide players with his impressive size and muscle pucks away from the foes before passing them off to an open player. While his shot power is weaker than most players, his accuracy is second only to the most proficient sharpshooter in the game, Hakoda Ishii. Now on the third line, known more for cleaning up than making plays, can a player with fifteen assists in the last three World Cups really find a home here?

RD – 91 - KUANG Deniigi - ASSISTANT CAPTAIN
Height: 193cm - Weight: 99kg – Age: 24 years old – Hand: R - Team: Kyrimorut Ramikade

Kuang Deniigi is a very physical player with a unique skillset; great ice vision allows Kuang to see plays forming well before they commence. Add to that impressive speed for such a large player and relatively good accuracy, and you have a defensive player who can shift the opponent's momentum against them.

Having graduated from Republic City State University four seasons ago, Kuang was drafted in the third round by Kyrimorut, however, he was quickly traded to the Makapu Flames where he would play for a single season before being traded back to the Ramikade. While the nature of the flip-flop is unknown, it allowed Kuang to play under two distinct coaching styles in two distinctively different divisions. It is always best to learn to combat multiple styles, and Kuang is very knowledgeable about his opponents; a valuable asset to have on the line designed to come in when the game is turning fast against your team.

With the moving of Arnook Ishida to the first line, Head Coach Kad Skirata has bestowed upon Kuang the position of Second Assistant Captain. In an effort to instill leaership skills in the next generation of Ice Bisons, Skirata sees in Kuang a younger Pakku Ito, and perhaps he will one day take the older Water Tribesman's place. However, with the need for young veteran on the third line, Kuang happily finds his place here with the 'A' sewn proudly to his chest.

Height: 186cm - Weight: 92kg – Age: 19 years old – Hand: L - Team: University of Omashu

With the last-minute departure of Ikeda Kuruk to return home to handle a Tribal Challenge, Mori Tatsuhiro — who only has played four games during the Royal Alexandre — managed to earn his first World Cup starting position. A shorter left-winger from UO, Mori has a bit of a handicap in that he is just nineteen-years-old; this translates into just thirteen collegiate games, albeit in the renowed Southern Earth Conference of the ASCA. Despite being so wet behind the ears, Skirata is giving him a chance to earn his stripes and play amongst the likes of Kuang Deniigi and Ko Piando, an experience that he will never forget.

Quick on the start, Mori suffers from youthful endurance; tending to burn out physically about five minutes into his shifts. However, this is something Skirata has stated he intends on fixing, so you can expect to see Mori in practices wearing a bit more weight and getting pushed into the longer shifts. The average Ice Bisons shift is four minutes, and you cannot have someone nearing exhaustion in their shift. Once he learns to control himself, only pushing himself to the extreme when needed, Mori will make a great addition to the national team.

C – 43 – OTO Yaki
Height: 185cm - Weight: 92kg – Age: 23 years old – Hand: R - Team: University of the Northern Tribes

In his final year at UNT, Oto Yaki is someone who has been in the Reserve Corps of the Ice Bisons since he was a Freshman; getting two games in the Twenty-First edition and another game in the Twenty-Fourth. However, it was not until the shake-up before the Royal Alexandre that he was pushed from simple reservist to active member.

A decent sized centre, Oto is known for his sight on the ice than anything else; he has always struggled with the long pass, though it is in the short pokes that Oto makes the most plays. His accuracy is pretty good, though not what you would expect from a starting forward at one of the premier hockey schools in the ASCA. Hopefully for both the Ice Bisons' future and for Oto's, this time spent on the Multiverse Stage will work to shape and hone his skills so that when he applies to the AHL Draft, he does not leave without a future.

Coming from a renowned Mandalorian Youth Hockey Development Academy in Keldabe, Jaster Gilamij played his collegiate hockey in Kibago under a student of Skirata, Mos Shilosa. This resulted in Gilamij developing a very 'Mandalorian'-style of play; far more adept at sniping the puck from the blue line then at bringing it into the crease, Gilamij is still a little rough on the edges to take a lead position on the Bisons. Quick to draw, quick to shoot, Gilamij will one day be seen as a great player.

For now, he is average in all categories... And time may be running out...

Roster
Ice hockey isn't exactly the most popular sport in the Equestrian States. In fact, it's not even in the top ten for the largest attendance draws (falling even behind the perpetually pathetic Handball League). To assemble their national team roster, the EIHF again looked to the Equestrian Ice Hockey League for players. The EIHL includes some of the most non-equine players of any sport league in the Equestrian States, and the roster of the national team reflects this well.

Strategy & Lines
Teams in the EIHL generally are more focused on finesse and speed than others, but with several major exceptions. Thus, the Equestrian States national team will play a more attacking style than their competitors. The defense will look to pass the puck forward and keep it out of the Equestrian zone to minimize the chances opponents will get. Goaltending isn't exactly a strong suit for the Equestrian States, so keeping the shots against to a lower number is a definite priority.

Team Staff
The Head Coach's job remains firmly in the hands of Nate Long, the first human to earn such a position on an Equestrian national team for any sport. Long earned his job through repeatedly dominating his rival (Bruiser) in "Coach of the Year" awards voting. But that's probably because the award is voted upon by the players, and Bruiser certainly has a personality to match his name, being an EIHL Hall of Fame defensepony.

Head Coach - Nate Long (Human - Male) - 52 - Fairflanks North Stars (Head Coach)
Assistant Coach - Bruiser (Earth Pony - Male) - 49 - Everfree Fire (Head Coach)
Assistant Coach - Laura Sisko (Human - Female) - 55 - Canterlot Ice (Head Coach)

Home Arena

Image

Name: Canterlot Ice Arena
Location: Canterlot, Equestrian States
Capacity: 7,525
Short Description: One of the few purpose-built larger-capacity ice hockey arenas in the Equestrian States, the Canterlot Ice Arena is relatively new when compared to the older multi-purpose arenas in the nation. Canterlot Ice Arena is located on the outskirts of the Equestrian capital city, but is still easily accessible to visitors staying downtown Canterlot's higher-class hotels via the train. It's not ideal, perhaps, but it's the best the Equestrian States can offer right now.

RP Permissions

If my opponent RPs first, I give them the right to...
Choose My Scorers: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes
RP Injuries to My Players: Yes - Only that the player was injured, not the type or severity
Godmod Injuries to My Players: Yes - See above for restrictions
RP Penalties for My Players: Yes - Generally, the Equestrians play a very clean game, so fewer penalties
RP Ejections for My Players: No - TG me if you really want to
Godmod Other Events: Yes - Just don't do anything stupid, ridiculously weird, or something that would likely irritate me (like portraying my team as being unintelligent non-sapient barnyard animals instead of sapient beings).

* - Historical Note: From WCoH 18-20, the Equestrian States was represented by an unofficial team of changelings (shapeshifters) who competed illegally. That team's all-time record was 18 wins, 1 overtime loss, and 11 losses in regulation. They won their group in WCoH 19 and reached the round of 16 in that tournament and at WCoH 20. As that team competed illegally, the Equestrian States does not recognize those results as official for the current national team.
