Drakonikan Football Association - 2014 League Results

Introduction:
The Drakonikan Football Association (known locally as the Drknikn Ftbl Ascitn) is the governing body of football in New Drakonika of the Drakonikan professional football system, the Drknikn Fa Cp and Drakonikan National Team. Its membership stands at 64 teams across 4 divisions, known as the Professional Leagues.

They are, in order of descending importance:
  • Pmr Lg
  • Ftbl Chmpshp
  • Lg Wn
  • Lg To

Drakonikan football features mostly dracons, the native species of New Drakonika, known for their athletic ability and short careers (and indeed lives),

The leagues have no restrictions on squad size and composition, and seeing as most of the teams have started from virtually nothing, the FA has offered high prize money for the best teams, with 64 million being offered to the Pmr Lg winner, and going down in steps of 1 million through all leagues to the last place finisher, who receives nothing. 64 million has also been offered to the FA Cup winner, with 32 million going to the runner up and the prize money halving for every round and being given to the losing teams, going down to 0 for the first round. The substitution rules are 3 from 7 and there is no financial limit.

The solitary Champion's Cup spot will go to the Champion of the Pmr Lg, along with the Atlantian Oceanian Champions League spot, while two Globe Cup spots shall be given to the second and third teams in the Pmr Lg, while the third Globe Cup spot goes to the FA Cup winner, unless they have already qualified, in which case the spot goes to the runner-up, or if they also qualified, fourth in the Pmr Lg. The cup winner also qualifies for the Cygnus Cup. Meanwhile, the last place finisher qualifies for the Kylx Kup.

Teams were chosen by a random ballot of 80 cities, and named with 12 suffixes. Drknika, the capital and largest city, recieved 2 teams, while Jsnfd, a large city around 100 kilometers south of Drknika received a whopping 5 teams! This was due to the pure randomness of the team generator, and shall not be rectified, oot even in the case of a league expansion, which will also be random. This has inevitably led to some cities not having representation in the Pro Leagues, but they at least have the Amateur league to focus on, which unfortunately has no promotion or relegation to the Pro Leagues for the foreseeable future.

But he was wrong. It was he who was the traitor, he the dictator, he the true tyrant. I returned to above the waves and presented the location of the merpeople's treasure to the dictator of Stvoto Latoli, who greedily took the coordinates without thanking me. As I leapt atop my broom, I could already hear the wailing of the merpeople from the depths; their last shred of dignity, the last remnant of their kingdom, their last symbol of hope; raped by the tyrannical humans.

1st Season of the Ligue Nationale de Football Association

The Ligue Nationale de Football Association is the only professional association football league in Nouvelle-Gaule, and its format closely resembles that of the major professional sports leagues in North America; the eight franchise teams of the league are sorted into two conferences. The Conférence Nord comprises the following teams: Fureur de Brûlé, Fort Rouillè Football Club, Hennepin Uni and Impact de Le Royer. The Conférence Sud comprises the following teams: Association Sportive de Veniard, Équipe de Delacroix, Feu de Point du Sable and Onze de Rousseau.

Each team faces the other teams belonging to its conference thrice, and the teams belonging to the other conference only once. The first team of each conference is automatically admitted to the playoffs, while the second and the third team compete in a tie-breaker match. The four qualified teams compete in the playoffs; the final takes place in the stadium of the team that won the regular season. The winner of the final qualifies for the Champions' Cup, while the runner-up and the semi finalists qualify for the Globe Cup.

Saison Régulière

1 Fureur de Brûlé 14 7 3 4 22 13 +9 24
2 Feu de Point du Sable 14 7 2 5 9 9 0 23
3 Impact de Le Royer 14 6 4 4 14 7 +7 22
4 Association Sportive de Veniard 14 6 3 5 16 15 +1 21
5 Onze de Rousseau 14 5 4 5 13 14 −1 19
6 Hennepin Uni 14 5 2 7 15 14 +1 17
7 Équipe de Delacroix 14 4 3 7 13 21 −8 15
8 Fort Rouillè Football Club 14 4 3 7 10 19 −9 15

It's been a very balanced regular season, with four teams - two from each conference - that battled it out for the first spot until the end. Hennepin Uni, Équipe de Delacroix and Fort Rouillè Football Club were the league's whipping boys, and it's a miracle the Hennepin team managed to qualify for the playoffs.

Match des Étoiles

Conférence Nord 2–1 Conférence Sud

27' X. Mercier
51' L. Daviau
74' L. Daviau

The best players from each conference faced each other in Point du Sable, for ninety minutes of entertainment before the beginning of the playoffs. The men of the Conférence Sud dominated the first half of the game; the local crowd's favourite, Xavier Mercier, scored the first goal of the match after 27 minutes in which the northern conference's half of the field was put under a merciless siege by the southern team. Le Royer's Louis Daviau, that replaced his teammate Humbert Fortier at the beginning of the second half, eventually led the Conférence Nord to victory by scoring both of their goals, and was voted best man of the match.

Série Éliminatoire

Onze de Rousseau 1–2 Association Sportive de Veniard
Hennepin Uni 0–3 Impact de Le Royer

In the tie-breaker matches, Veniard won against Rousseau by one goal, while Le Royer didn't have any trouble winning against the weak Hennepin squad, led by its stars Fortier, Perrot and Daviau.

Feu de Point du Sable 4–2 Impact de Ville-Marianne
Fureur de Brûlé 1–2 Association Sportive de Veniard

A shocking victory of the Association Sportive de Veniard over Brûlé, winners of the regular season, makes so that the final will be entirely southern.

Finale

Association Sportive de Veniard 1–0 Feu de Point du Sable

89' R. Bissette

Veniard does what people, at the start of the playoffs, thought impossible. Relying on their defense, the aquamarine blue-clad team prevails over the mighty eleven from Point du Sable that defeated Veniard three times out of three during the regular season. Striker Raphael Bissette received the applause of the Brûlé stadium's crowd but, for the team's fans, the real hero is the coach, José Matos. The foreign manager, who retired as a player just a couple of years before becoming a coach in the Nouvelle-Gaulois league, despite a rough start found a way to turn the team, a rag-tag bunch of former amateurs, into a fortress. According to many supporters of rival teams, Veniard played a boring, dull kind of football, but the fans don't seem to mind.

Nouvelle-Gaule (NGL) qualifiers

Champions' Cup: Association Sportive de Veniard
Globe Cup: Feu de Point du Sable, Fureur de Brûlé, Impact de Le Royer

Changes approved for Paripana league pyramid
“It’s a pyramid, not a lightning rod.”

At the Paripana Sporting Council’s annual meeting in Aeropag, the Football Competitions Committee has set out its plans for a restructuring in the third and fourth tiers of the Paripanan pyramid.

“Our main goal was to pave a smoother road for lower-league clubs to make their way into the Élite League,” committee chair Arlene Bennett explained in a press conference. “Right now, it’s quite startling for a club at the regional levels to get promoted and suddenly find themselves competing against clubs from all over Paripana.”

“And once that happens, they either claw their way into the Élite League or get sent back down immediately. There’s no middle ground. With this new plan, we’ve made it so it’s a pyramid, not a lightning rod.”

The new system, which will take effect in the 2254–55 season, will expand the Promotion League from 16 teams to 48, divided into three regional divisions, each encompassing four of the PSC’s twelve regions. The winner of each division will be promoted to Élite League Two; consequently, the number of teams relegated from the Élite League will be reduced from four to three. Four teams from each division will be relegated to their respective Regional Championships.

The Regional Championships will also see changes, as the three regional associations covering multiple regions—the Lontorika FA, the Sokojito FA, and the Southern FA—will each create a combined top-flight league for all of their regions. This will reduce the number of leagues at the top level of the Regional Championships from twelve to eight, while the lower tiers will remain unchanged. The PSC will centrally control promotion and relegation at this level so that it consists of exactly 128 teams, although the number in each region may vary because of clubs relegated from higher leagues. The top three teams from the new League of the South, the top two teams each from the 1. Liga Lontorika and Sokojito Ligĭ 1, and the champions of the other five regions will be promoted.

Image

The SLANI SuperLeague, Jasĭyun Ligĭ, and other association championships will also be adjusted, as the new rules call for every club in the top three tiers to play in their association’s league. Although the details are still to be decided by the respective associations, it is likely that Capitalizt SLANI and Jasĭyun will expand their leagues to two or three divisions. Fourth-tier teams may participate in their associtaion’s league, but any club which drops below that level may not participate.

These adjustments to the association leagues are designed to rationalize the Paripana Open Cup. Unlike the current system, in which clubs playing in their association’s league are afforded byes to the fourth qualifying round to avoid a fixture clash, now the 48 third-tier teams will enter the fourth qualifying round and the 128 fourth-tier teams will enter the third qualifying round, which will still be regionalized but has its own reserved dates in the calendar.

In the upcoming season, no teams will be relegated from the Promotion League, and the top three teams from each Regional Championship will be promoted, creating a 52-team third tier for the 2254–55 season, which will be reduced to 48 in the next season by relegating four extra teams. Conversely, the modified fourth tier will have only 124 teams in its first season: twelve in the League of the South and sixteen in each of the seven other leagues. No teams will be relegated from the League of the South in its first season, so that all leagues will ultimately have roughly equal membership.

Developing the changes required balancing the interests of clubs, leagues, associations, and, of course, the fans. Bennett concluded, “It wasn’t easy to make it all fit, but we tried to throw in a little something for everyone.”

So, Ulsa do what Spartangrad couldn't do last season, and that's win in the CdC final. It had to come down to penalties, but the two highest ranked league winners in Rushmore went toe to toe and it is Ulsa who emerge victorious. The win is Eura's first in the tournament, and marks the arrival of a powerful new force in Rushmori club football.

Possibly.

Future bids for host stadia will be taken into consideration, though the default in case of no bids will always be The Barge in Bjarnarey; the floating stadium. A final reminder also that all Rushmori nations only (including any and all puppets) will be able to submit their league champions only (or top ranked team in the event of multi-associational leagues of more than one Rushmori nation) for entry into the next CdC; this includes puppet leagues that don't submit to UICA. The submission period opened when Commerce Heights closed entries to the last UICA tournaments, and will close again when Commerce Heights closes entries to the next UICA tournaments. No invitations will be sent. You must indicate at the bottom of your league summary that you wish your league champion to take part, and I take no responsibility for missing it if you've only shown it in your table.

Please also note that I will continue to modify the UICA ranks slightly, and am setting a hard maximum rank of 80. Any team with a rank higher than that will be cut to 80, and the max rank for the scorinator will be 100.

Showing off their incredibly minor league's results for the landmark twentieth time, its the Twin-Emirate of Ares-y-Penthesilea's very own Emirate League. The land of endless universities, students and, well, older students, isn't exactly known for sporting prowess. But they give it a good go, bless them. This season, Argonauts are back on top after a little bit of time away from the spotlight.

Productive talks in Columbia
The first day of the Bedistan Football Association’s annual meeting in Columbia has concluded, with the Executive Board passing resolutions on a number of pressing issues regarding the future of the game in Bedistan.

The primary result was the launch of a new campaign by the BFA, called Football Across Bedistan’s Cities, which aims to double the number of licensed clubs in the Bedistan Football League by 2260. Starting in the 2254–55 season, the league will be split into North and South divisions, with a new Bedistan Premier League sitting above it at the fourth tier of Paripanan football. The split is aimed at drawing more clubs from the metropolitan south into the league, by creating a greater number of derby fixtures and reducing trips to the sparser northern regions.

In accordance, a request was submitted to the Paripana Sporting Council for the two regions—Bedistan North, which will include clubs from Frontera, Highland, Latia, Limpania, Novania, Palladia, and Salvana; and Bedistan South, including clubs from Athalia, Escambia, Homeria, Neshoba, Paruvia, and Sonoma—to be separated in the Paripana Open Cup through the third qualifying round, as is currently the case for the two regions of Lontorika, two regions of Sokojito, and three regions of the South.

The BFA also issued a formal response to the PSC’s plans to alter the Regional Championships and Paripana Open Cup, which is reproduced in full below:

Although the Paripana Sporting Council has made some positive proposals to reshape the Paripanan pyramid, such as the expansion of the third tier, the remainder of this plan represents a threat to the independence of the Bedistan Football Association and our fellow regional football associations, and on this basis we must oppose it.

The PSC claims the authority to control access to fourth-tier leagues, including our new Bedistan Premier League, through promotion and relegation. There is no legal basis for this power grab. The BFA is an independent association of clubs, chartered years before the PSC showed any interest in regionalized competitions. We maintain complete control over our own competitions, including with respect to the admission of clubs, the competition format, and the system of promotion and relegation. Our only duty to the PSC in this regard is to produce a champion on sporting merit which shall earn a place in one of the PSC’s own leagues.

Furthermore, it would foolish for the BFA to authorize the PSC to control promotion and relegation in our leagues, because this plan reveals that the PSC has no inclination to do so equitably. It has been suggested that the top two teams from Lontorika and Sokojito, and the top three teams from the South, will earn promotion to the third tier, while only the champion of the Bedistan Premier League will be afforded the same respect. The present Bedistan Football League First Division is, although we admit our opinion may be biased, the strongest regional league in Paripana. The last five Paripana Open Cups, and seventeen of the last twenty seasons of the Élite League, have been won by our members. We represent nearly as many clubs as the Sokojito Football Association, and we aim to dramatically increase our numbers over the coming years. There is no conceivable reason why we should have fewer teams promoted than they will.

You know full well what would happen if we were made to leave the Élite League over such petty issues. You now also know that it was a mistake to approve such a far-reaching plan without consulting with us first. Govern yourselves accordingly.

Signed,
Iän Samaniëgo · Chairman · Afton Football Club
Tubal Navarro · Chairman · Carter Football Club
Betsabó Korteso · Chairman · Griffin Zebras Athletic Club
Faith Taylor · Chairman · High Mountain Buffalo Football Club
Axelo Marero · President · Jamaica Giants Sport Club
Nina Šarić · Chairman · San Diego Iguanas Football Club
Um Sû-gyuŋ · Chairman · Washington Tigers Football Club
Kasta Karera · President · Yuba United Football Club

PS: The suggested alterations to the Paripana Open Cup are even more ill-conceived; the proposed byes for fourth-tier teams into the third qualifying round are untenable with the current regional allocation system. Since 52 teams would play in the third tier in the 2254–55 season, only 108 places in the fourth qualifying round would be available for teams advancing from the third qualifying round. Under the regional allocation system, most regions will receive eight of these places. In regions which have sixteen fourth-tier clubs given byes to the third qualifying round, there will be no room at all for lower-league clubs to enter the Cup, while the Southern FA will have its lower leagues vastly overrepresented.

First, there is no reason why the PSC should not relegate the bottom four teams from the Promotion League in 2252–53 to their respective regional leagues, so that the third tier is limited to 48 teams in the 2254–55 season. Second, a more appropriate allocation system would calculate a quota value based on the number of teams in the region at the fifth tier and below, and then add half the number of fourth-tier teams from that region directly to the quota.

A comparison of the PSC’s proposal to this modified allocation, based on the expected number of clubs from each region in the 2254–55 season, is provided below. For our scenario, it is assumed arbitrarily that teams from Sokojito North, Sokojito South, South Central, and South West would be relegated from the Promotion League.

The Silver League

Introduction
Isula ĝe Ru is a nation of fans of two things: scholarly wit and action. Football, with extraordinary tactics and thought, as well as the obvious excitement, seems to be the best manner in which the Isulans can express their interests. As such, the Isulan Football Association has organized a nationwide football festival of sorts, between the nation's thirty-six best clubs. The word festival is, perhaps, incorrect, for this is very much a league of a highly competitive nature, although split into three distinct parts. Of these three parts, two are what would be considered the "regular season", and one the "cup".
The season begins with Phase One, the Island Championships, where the thirty-six teams are split into three parallel leagues based on geographic area, with twelve to a league: The Liga Oria, The Liga Ocĉia, and The Liga Aura. Each of the twelve teams plays each of their opponents home and away, for a twenty-two game championship. At the end of the season, the team atop the table is crowned Island Champion.
After a short break, Phase Two commences. The top four teams in each league move on to play in the National Championship, the highest level of Isulan football. The middle four teams compete in Division I, and the bottom four teams from each Island League compete in Division II. The team atop the National Championship once all teams have played each other twice is declared National Champion.
Phase Two also sees the beginning of the Mist Cup, a knockout-style tournament among all thirty-six Isulan teams.

International Qualification
Qualification to the Champion's Cup and Globe Cup is taken from the National Championship, while qualification to the SBCC is taken from Division I. Division II is not open to International Qualification.

With the season's first half completed, the massive surprise is Suberfiĝe. With eleven games gone, the club has put in arguably the World's best defense ever of a Wooden Spoon, and sit in second place at 6-1-4, not 5 points behind Club Cæa, the unlikely candidate for leaders halfway through. Below them, Aĝi Ĉeasa keep the tradition of surprise going, and a shock performance from Orie Ĉea ensures that, with 11 games left to play, none of the big three of Orian football are in National Championship position. Two-time League Champions Isula Are Esĉer sit in fifth place, one point ahead of the National pride, Maria CF, who made it into the group stage of the Globe Cup in the latest UICA Season, but are languishing in 6th, eight points back from the lead, amongst such company as Ĉirquidu. The trinity's apparent fall from grace is punctuated by Esĉelha Siripta Saiude, as the defending Mist Cup champions languish in eighth place. The bottom four, at least, hold no surprises, as CF Calhu, Coru Coru, A Mara, and Aguila will need to claw their way back out of the Second Division spots.

The shocks keep coming. Olympi's massive plunge last season looks much brighter indeed, as for most of the first half of the season, they sat atop the league standings, being overtaken by Ĝa CF on the 11th matchday in a battle of the unpredictables. Though the Mist Cup finalists made the National Championship last season, they rotted on the bottom. Perhaps this is a rebirth. Regulars Cruĝ Alba and Club ĝ'Ocĉiu round out the top four, though in this versatile league, they can go anywhere from the top to the bottom, sinking through the likes of CF Saidu and 1st Division powerhouses Maĉia. Occasus and Ĉebesta complete the slew of clubs who sit atop the National Champions, Isula Esiru, in the tables. Esiru has taken a post-victory plunge, and rot in ninth atop only Vilha, Mara, and struggling ARMA.

So often overlooked, Cæa ĝe Naĝu has made themselves the lifeblood of this season. It may be the uniforms modeled after their optical illusion of a crest, or their gritty, tough style of play, but they have taken the League by storm, and through eleven games they have yet to lose one. Just a win behind is confusingly-named Isula ĝe Ru, the club, who are slowly breaking away from the rest of the pack, a chase group headed by the defending Champions, Ĉeĉali CĝF. O Ulĉu are the surprises of the season, falling into fourth ahead of heavyweights Arĝa. Gutlé has floundered recently, but takes on new vigor in sixth ahead of both Ĉebu Esiru and powers Scholar's Tower, who are another club to drop in the first eleven. Once again, the bottom four don't surprise, as Solá, Ulmea, Laĝerna, and Solcalhu round out the bottom.

Week Two

Week Three
Westminster City 3–2 FC Nassau
Royal Michaeltown 3–1 Corona Christiana
United Philibiscostal 4–2 Royal Martecabras
FC Londonderry 1–2 Uniti Takatori
Surprises abound as United Philibiscostal bounced back from an ugly Premiere performance to claim an undefeated opening record over Londonderry, Takatori and Martecabras. Royal Michaeltown put up a hard fight against Uniti Takatori, but Mikaere Raia's two second half goals set him a notch above the rest. A fantastic performance on goal by Maraka Uirema denied the Black Dragons a draw and sent them to a disappointing bottom half placing on the table. Meanwhile Yves Bercée found a rhythm for Les Pirates to sink into, cruising to an effortless 2-0 victory over newcomers FC Londonderry, a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Takatori and a powerhouse 4-2 win over Martecabras. La Corona was stonewalled in Westminster, though the Federation Cup defenders found a crack in the Westminster line to notch a goal by Alessandre Massinos. Royal Martecabras opened on a continuation of their good fortune from the last season, with Mikara Uira leading the team to a hard fought 3-2 victory in Securu against FC Kingsmouth, but a home draw against the Black Dragons and a earth-shattering loss to Les Pirates bust the myth that a Premiere win will come easily.

Week Four
Royal Martecabras 1–1 FC Londonderry
Corona Christiana 2–0 United Philibiscostal
FC Nassau 5–3 FC Kingsmouth
Ticomaça Nacional 4–1 Westminster City

Week Seven
Royal Michaeltown 0–0 Westminster City
United Philibiscostal 1–2 Ticomaça Nacional
FC Londonderry 1–2 FC Nassau
Royal Martecabras 1–0 Corona Christiana
Philibiscostal were sent to their first loss in Week 4, as La Corona dispatched the Philibiscostal team by putting two goals past Orestos Christophe, though the Crown failed to keep up form in the following weeks, cruising to three consecutive losses. Philibiscostal took advantage of their Week 5 bye to practice heavily for their game against the reigning champions, a practice which paid off in the form of a Stéphane Delacroix-led 2-1 victory. Ticomaça Nacional returned to winning form, barring a 3-1 loss at FC Kingsmouth. Meanwhile, Uniti Takatori dominated by doing what Philibiscostal couldn't: remaining undefeated, with wins over Martecabras and La Corona setting them on course to a firm first-place.

Week Eight
FC Nassau 1–0 Uniti Takatori
Ticomaça Nacional 1–1 FC Londonderry
Westminster City 4–2 United Philibiscostal
FC Kingsmouth 1–1 Royal Michaeltown

Week Nine
United Philibiscostal 1–0 FC Kingsmouth

FC Nassau 2–1 Corona Christiana
Ticomaça Nacional 2–3 Royal Martecabras
Westminster City 1–2 Uniti Takatori
FC Kingsmouth 1–1 FC Londonderry

Week Eleven
FC Londonderry 0–0 Royal Michaeltown
Uniti Takatori 3–0 FC Kingsmouth
Royal Martecabras 3–0 Westminster City
Corona Christiana 3–3 Ticomaça Nacional
La Corona suffered a big meltdown in the run-up to the halfway point. A loss at Nassau and draw against Ticomaça sent the club down to last place, taking much heat off FC Londonderry, who sit in the play-off position once again. Royal Michaeltown continue to struggle on the cusp of the drop zone as they attempt to find their footing, while Royal Martecabras recover to UICA play-off position with wins against Nassau, Ticomaça and Westminster. Uniti Takatori were dealt their first loss at the hands of the reigning champions in the Free State, the last team to go unbeaten through this season, but were flawless through the next three weeks to maintain top position over FC Nassau, who find themselves four points short of Mikaere Raia's team.

As with the play-in stage, fixtures in the first two stages must be played within a single geographic region. (Draws from the third stage on are not group by region.) The regional clubs have been assigned to one of the three Divisions for said purposes, while the regional and divisional clubs have likewise been assigned to a Conference for the second draw. For each stage's draw, the teams coming in from the previous stage have been placed in one pot, while the teams entering have been placed in the other. To even the two pots in the first draw, four balls have been moved from each entering teams' pot to the corresponding winners' pot. One ball is then drawn out of each pot and placed in a middle pot to determine the home team for the first leg.
The team on the left will play the first leg at home.

LEAGUE A - IT'S OFFICIAL!

Azrea finally has a football league!

Minford, Azrea

League Owner Mitchell Myers has cut the ribbon of "League A" Friday evening following the announcement of Azrea's professional football league in front of the Azrean national stadium, Ellis Field. Myers had announced the 16 teams, and their venues as well as the managers who all showed up to the special announcement. The league opens after Azrea's unexpected Quarter Final position in the BoF56 a couple months back.

The teams will be split into two conferences, the North and South Conferences. Every team will play every other team in it's respective conference 4 times (twice home, and away), as well as every team in the other conference twice, (once home, once away.) This would make every team in the league play a total of 44 games, and twice every week. The top 4 teams from every conference will advance to the Conference Playoffs where a best out of 3 series between ranked team 1 and 4, as well as 2 v 3 will be played. The winners of those series' will play each other, where the winner will be heading to the Grand Final. The winner of the final will be awarded finances to their clubs' bank, as well as the trophy of course, named - The Azrean Cup.

TEAMS
Northern Conference :
Dayne City
Fairview FC
Timmons FC
Brendale Bears
Carson City
Greenville Lions
Jasper United
Larston Eagles

Southern Conference :
Minford FC
Albern
Port James Strikers
Stanton SC
Larmana FC
Crawford Wildcats
Robinson Rangers
Mundley FC

League A hopes to spread it's popularity throughout the Nation States sporting world by buying, and or loaning players from international leagues. After the end of this season, the leagues first transfer window will open allowing teams from across the globe to buy and sell talents to League A.

The first match between Minford FC, and Larmana FC will kick off tomorrow afternoon.

OOC :
League standing results will come out at the end of every month.
I was thinking the winner of League A will be able to play 3 international clubs before the start of the following season as friendly matches...

The ninth Vennskap Shield saw a thrilling finish last night as the first red card in the fixture's history opened up the game for East Franz Athletic to chase down Northbrook Diamonds' hard fought lead, crafted from the base of a staggeringly impressive first half performance from the reigning league and cup champions.

With the match this year happening in Apox, a huge crowd was guaranteed at the home of Dwile Warriors. Indeed, the two leagues are so close together in terms of prestige and quality these days that the presence of scouts at the match was not a surprise at all. With Northbrook winning both the league and the cup last season, the second placed team in the league was invited to the fixture. This year, that team was Guus Tuulari's East Franz Athletic. Last season, Petter Bielsen had the honour of fulfilling Tuulari's hard work by leading Red Star Severny to Vennskap success after Tuulari had done the hard work during the season and then moved to East Franz before the fixture could be held. This time, Tuulari was present to reap the rewards of his labour. Indeed, with Morten Rasmussen starting to stutter in charge of the national side, this match saw two of the managers most often mentioned as a potential replacement pitted against each other.

The match didn't start well for Niko Marek's Northbrook side, with Albin Oslograd teasing an opening through the Northbrook backline and firing just over the bar, before veteran Urszcsar midfielder Ferenc Zukauskas raised his arm alerting the medical staff to the re-occurrence of an irritatingly niggly hamstring injury. To have another season written off would be a shame for the talented Zukauskas, and his replacement in the midfield Ned Goode took a few minutes to settle into the experimental line-up Marek had opted for - including controversially leaving out Jean-Eric Villeneuve in favour of teenager Mikkel Moen in the starting line-up.

Tuulari had also gone for an experimental line-up, and it wasn't long before Northbrook's expensively assembled front-line of Möller and Zelaya - the final piece in the jigsaw of Marek's title-ambitions - began to find spaces through East Franz's 3-4-2-1 formation. The wing-backs of Erevik and Sigurdsson were clearly still learning their role in this formation, and when Finiguerra - sitting back in the deeper 'Villeneuve' role since the arrival of Möller and Zelaya - was able to slip between Sigurdsson and Schwidrowski, all it took was one cross into the middle and there was Möller to head home the opening goal for the Diamonds.

Finiguerra was at the centre of everything for the Diamonds in the first half, and it was his assist that set Zelaya up for the second goal in the fortieth minute. Picking out Zelaya's run, just the kind of run that he himself would have made a few seasons ago, the Acquan attacker clipped a diagonal through ball over Marin's head with the outside of his boot. All that Zelaya had to do after that was run onto the ball before Rivcoucher reached it and clip it over the onrushing keeper into the open goal. Two-nil at half time, and the league champions were looking in imperious form.

Tuulari wasted little time to make changes, and replaced the Vanorian Berethas with a young midfielder who grew up within sight of the Rendahl, Alexsandr Kiriyenko. The additional pace and urgency in the centre of the park immediately brought the pair of Oslograd and Zeljeznicar further into the game, and left Rook Cathar a lot less isolated up front. The opening moments of the second saw chances for a revitalised Zeljeznicar as well as seeing saves being forced from Breeze thanks to Cathar, Oslograd, and Rutten.

With no breakthrough however, Tuulari handed an introduction to new signing Adnan Zozula. The introduction of an Apoxian player drew warm applause from the local fans in the crowd, but things immediately got worse for the Spires when Finiguerra underlined his ambitions to be a viable alternative to the ageing Villeneuve when he capitalised on a mistake from Mannerheim to run through and add a goal to his two assists from earlier on in the match. Villeneuve was introduced shortly afterwards.

East Franz were offered a chink of light on eighty minutes when Hesjedal was sent off for a second bookable offence, and the league runners-up wasted no time in pressing home their advantage. Within minutes, Tuulari replaced attacking midfielder Oslograd with Valladar striker Christian Simmonds, and with no substitutions left and a lack of natural right-sided players on the pitch the Diamonds were quickly overwhelmed.

A furious last five minutes of normal time saw goals for Zeljeznicar from a tap-in and a fine Zozula strike on his debut from outside the box, but the Diamonds' defence was finely marshalled by Bârr, Nordenberg, Küngas-Vaga, and Holzhauser, and the veritable fleet of international quality was able to restrict East Franz's access to the goalkeeping talents of Breeze. It might have been the top-billed front line of Möller and Zelaya who made the breakthrough in terms of winning the title and starting this match like a runaway freight train, but it was all built on the foundations of Marek's expert defence, and that backline was on show to save the day today.

Northbrook lifted the shield for the second time in it's so-far short history, but there was plenty on show from both teams today to indicate that they will both be a force to reckon with in the next season again.

The Democratic States Football Association presents

The Fenbarric Football League

The 6th Fenbarric Shield

The Fenbarric Shield, in which the previous season's League and Cup winners play each other in the opening game of the season. This season sees League champions Oldcastle take on last year's surprise Fenton Cup winners, Division 3 side Tilletwood.

Last season's League winners: Oldcastle Athletic

Last season's Fenton Cup winners: Tilletwood

The Fenbarric Shield
Oldcastle Athletic 6–1 Tilletwood

The 7th Fenton Cup

Last year, Tilletwood surprised everybody by beating favourites Flippers in the final in a tournament noted for the success of underdogs, but this year the big teams got their won back. All teams from Division 4 will start in the 1st Preliminary round, and all teams from Division 3 will enter in the 2nd Preliminary Round. After a 3rd Prelim Round in which Div 3 losers participate, the 1st Round will commence. All teams from Div 2 will enter in the 2nd Round, and all teams from Div 1 will enter in the 3rd Round.

Some of this season's highlights included Division 3 side Weald Wanderer's run to the quarter finals, and Flippers' 8-4 victory over Merton Rovers in the 3rd round. It all boiled down to the two most successful teams in recent Fenbarric football history, as Oldcastle Athletic, the league holders, faced last year's runners up Flippers. Oldcastle had scored 9 goals in their run to the final, including an incredible 5-1 victory over New Beetle in the semi final, whilst Flippers had scored an unprecedented 13 goals. It promised to be a great game...

The 7th Tri-Cup

A strange format, in which last year's winner (Borderlands FC) is not allowed to take part. The remaining nine teams in Division 1 are split into three groups, and play a match against each other. The three group winners go into a final group, where the winner is crowned champion, and does not qualify for next season's tournament.

The 8th Fenbarric Football League

New Beetle ran away with the title this season, winning with a record 78 points, by a record 18 points. This was the club's first ever silverware, and they secured it in dominant fashion, leading the table for most of the season. After coming so close two years ago, this victory was particularly sweet for them. Lower down the leagues in Division 4, East Fordham secured the double (with the Fenton Trophy) by beating Yaris Beach to the title on goal difference. Next year there are radical plans to change the league system, which may involve the introduction of many new teams. What is almost final however, is that Divisions 2 and 3 will be merged to become the new Division 2.

Fenton National Sports Stadium is located right at the heart of the nation's capital, and is used as the home ground for the National Football and Rugby teams, as well as the occasional Cricket match. Its capacity varies depending on which sport is being played there, but for Football it is at its maximum of 120,000. It also hosts high-profile domestic matches, such as the Fenton Cup final, and is also notable for containing its own hotel and subway station on the city's underground train network. As it is designed for hosting domestic sports finals, it has its own special 'Trophy Presentation Box', situated directly next to the Royal Box, and which can be viewed from the majority of the stadium. It is more commonly known as Fenton Stadium.

Globe Cup: Millsfield, Zinkak (capacity 65,000)
Named after the local farm on who's ground it was built, Millsfield has grown significantly in capacity over the years. Originally only able to house 2,000, the success of Zinak United, the team who play there, has meant that the club has been able to pour more and more money into the ground, improving the facilities and pitch, and increasing the capacity so that it can now contain 65,000 fans, the third most for club grounds in the country. As Zinkak is the southern most city in the country, the stadium can be a bit of a hassle to get to for domestic fans, but since it is a well populated city, there is an airport nearby, meaning that it is easy to reach for any international fan wishing to see their heroes in the Globe Cup final. The ground has a unique floodlighting system, with every stand housing 40,000 LED lights, which shine directly at the pitch, and can give night games an incredible atmosphere. The ground has also been noted for its large number of cafeterias and food stands, meaning it is easily capable of handling a large number of fans with money to spend.
