In yesterday's match against last place SuperFruitLand, the Peruvian Highlanders went in fully expecting and easy victory. SuperFruitLand had not yet won a game in this Beach Cup, and had been soundly thumped in each match, so it was well within reason for our proud team to go in expecting an easy win. We did win, but it was no cakewalk. SuperFruitLand actually jumped out to a 2-0 lead due to two early goals that Calvin Hausler should have saved but they somehow eluded him. Esteban Fortado scored the first Peruvian goal in the closing seconds of the first half, as he rocketed a shot into the top left corner of the net from about 15 meters out. The Highlanders stormed back in the second half, scoring two more goals to tie and take the lead, with the final goal coming in the closing seconds of the match on the counter attack as SuperFruitLand was pushing forwards for the equalizer. Fortado scored the tying goal, and midfielders Jason Martinez and Robert Jack scored the go-ahead and final goals, respectively.

The Peruvian Highlands team currently sits in third place in Group D, actually tied for second place with The Holy Republican Empire, the 33rd ranked team in the world. However, the Highlanders have a game in hand on the Republican Empire, so they very well could move up into second place in the group with a convincing win today.

Beach Football Seeks Recognition

Beach football as a full league as part of the Ko-orenite Football Association? It might not be a weird futuristic idea. The KFA is trying to find new markets with the new demographics: more people living in the sunnier areas of Ko-oren, and more people in Ko-oren in the first place. Apart from regular association football, the KFA is looking to set up regional Beach Football leagues, as well as a national system for Futsal. Several cities have been looking into having a municipal league and letting their city's best teams take on the best teams from other cities, but apparently the KFA wants to be part of this. And why wouldn't they... they are the football association after all.

More news is expected after census results are released in one month. That is when we will know where the Ko-orenites are living now that the North has become hard to live in. And that is also when we should know if enough Ko-orenites inhabit the coasts to make a Beach League work.

SCOW CREEK BEACH CUP MANAGER SACKED
27 AUG 2014

After an embarrassing - and highly surprising - series of losses, Scow Creek National Team Manager Iqemo Etqepo has been sacked by the Cabinet Minister for Sports.

"The Scow Creek Team was raised and bred on beach-sports," said Minister of Parks, Recreation, & Sport Qónr Qase. There is no excuse for these losses. With some of the best players in the world, the fact that we have a losing record at this point in the Beach Cup is simply inexcusable."

The Kingdom of Scow Creek, comprised largely of Sand Bars, is renowned for the skill of its sports teams, with world-class athletes on beach soccer, volleyball, and ocean swimming teams. As one of the few nations in the world where community gyms are maintained via tax funding and free to all residents, the performance of the Kingdom's team thus far as been embarrassing.

Aøqge Su Nerní, the Assistant Manager, will step up to Head Manager/Coach, and relative newcomer Ndreá Im'ons'u will step up to the Assistant's Position.

Three more to go ...

Nine games gone, seven wins and two defeats. Not an impressive performance but a commendable one. The Lions' two defeats come from unknown beach soccer nations like Itanpavia in the ninth match day and Democratic Donesia in the fourth match day. Amongst the seven victories that the Lions have collected throughout the tournament, the Lions managed their highest scoring game, a 13-0 annihilation of Itanpavia, but it was really unfortunate when the Lions went complacent and gave up against the same opponent with a close 7-6 game. Critics have called for the removal of the current head coach Jayson Dawson for the team's poor group performance in which they are expected to come out of unscathed and with a perfect record. Fortunately, critics only form a small portion of the public opinion on the Lions' performance in the Union's first international tournament in a long time. With Dawson set for retirement after Beach Cup X, the beach soccer team might see Frank Hakadin in charge, however Hakadin is not getting any younger, at 77 years old, one can only expect him to be at the helm for another five years before he runs out of steam and submit to the pressure of steering a team with high hopes and expectations for him and the team to shoulder. (I think that is probably why the players are weak at 50-50 balls). The next three matches will come against Democratic Donesia, Jachaelter and Algonquian Nations. Three simple opponents to till with and nine points in the bag. The Lions should be able to qualify for the knockout rounds and eventually put themselves as far in front as possible.

The Smilers are eliminated in the Beach Cup

Miley World lost 6-2 in the beach Cup against The Royal Barangay and are eliminated. The Royal Barangay took a 3-0 lead early in the game and Sofia Velasquez scored for Miley World at the 11th minute so the score was 3-1 at the end of the 1st period. The Royal Barangay added another goal and then Fernanda scored for Miley World, it's her 17th goal in the tournament. The score was 4-2 at the end of the 2nd period. The Royal Barangay scored 2 more goals in the 3rd period and won 6-2.

Miley World is actually in 3rd place with 21 points and are eliminated with only two games to go. It's a good results cuz it's our first time participating in the Beach Cup.

Beach Team Qualifies!

After a flawless 6-0 victory over the Serbian Empire, the beach version of the Dragonflies will make their way to Darmen, where the eventual Beach Cup will be played. With 64 goals in 10 games, Ko-oren is the second most scoring team, and the only thing that could be improved before heading to the Rushmori nation is the defence, which allowed 11 in just the 10 games. Now again, this is not a bad score, but considering that Ko-oren had already lost a game and that several nations are doing (slightly) better, the defence could use some work.

Today's Group C games featured three clean sheets: Ko-oren won 6-0 over the Serbian Empire, the co-qualified Filopines won 8-0 over the Whirl Islands, and Darvale secured third place with a 5-0 victory over Jecatria. Ko-oren and Filopines will represent Group C in Darmen, while only groups A, D, F and G have something to fight for in the remaining two games. Expect some tactical reshuffling and some experimentation in the two last group games, where Ko-oren will take on Darvale and the Whirl Islands.

What its like at the Beach Cup

You know, its great to have the opportunity to go abroad and play soccer for my country against players who are older than me, even if it is just beach soccer. I've had a blast, so far. We've played 12 matches and we've won 9 of them. That earned us a match against Royal Beringuy in the Round of 16. I don't know much about them. Also, I don't know any of their players. All I know about them has to do with their being from Rushmore and their nation being very good at basketball. I think they're a former champion of the World Basketball Classic or something. It isn't my fault that I got a D in my geography class.

I think we'll face either Maplepines or Filotish in the Quarterfinals if we win. Both of them are Esportivan nations, I think. Or are they from Astyria? Wait, I think they're part of the Black Riders. Maybe the Reject Realms? Wherever they're from is irrelevent, but I think theyre from the same region. I guess I should have paid attention in geography class instead of spending all my time drawing comics and pretending that I was taking notes. Come to think of it, I think I should talk to coach and see if he can talk my school into changing my geography grade to a C so that I don't have to take that class again next year, at the expense of my goofing around period. I'm pretty sure he's done that for somebody before.

The great part about being in Darmen for the Beach Cup is that I have plenty of time to play Monster Trainer with my teammates. On my current game, I'm got a level 99 Peek-a-Boo, a level 63 Chokermon and a level 52 Carniball. For my other 3 slots, I just rotate between 3 different characters. Its also great fun to play multiplayer battles against my teammates. We've been battling monsters for days and it is awesome. All we do is play soccer and Monster Trainer. We haven't done anything else in the time that we've been here in Darmen. It kind of sucks that I have to write for Sporting World, but its also kind of cool, I guess. I just wish it wasn't so much work because my Chokermon needs to gain a few more levels to beat Jakub's Swimmy-Poo. I've got to beat it, if I'm going to win our next Monster Trainer Tournament. Why does Miktondo have to make such awesome games? But now its time to travel to Liverpool Harbor Stadium to face the Bear-N-Guys, so I'll have to submit my article and get ready to play some beach soccer...

Levi Hollick is a striker for the Holy Republican U-15 National Soccer Team and a striker for the Holy Republican Beach Soccer Team at the current Beach Cup. At just 11 years of age, he has already competed in a few international tournaments and one day hopes to start for the National Team in a World Cup.

"Well as you can see most teams in the beach cup have been defeated atleast once. Also in most groups teams placed in second place, just like us have had three or more defeats, so in reality three defeats is the average amount for second place. The coach of the Red Marines recently told us that they are developing new strategies for the knockout stages as we speak and as you may know strategies and team work is our team's speciality. Plus we got Allonii who has scored thirty two goals this beach cup. Also I have to say this one more time that the Red Marines is a team that always exceeds expectations."

Greenblues look confident in Round of 16

Ko-oren took on Group F's Mizuyuki, who reached the second round after eight victories and four losses. Their last game couldn't have given them any confidence, when they lost 2-12 to Jachaelter. A team that would finish last in the group. Anyhow, the Greenblues stayed in Tilden to be visited by Mizuyuki, and the Ko-orenites did get a good final rehearsal with a 5-1 win over third placed Darvale. The Filopines would join us to the second round with a 15-0 win (!) over Jecatria. Other teams in the Ko-orenite bracket are Eastfield Lodge and Western Cuba. Eastfield Lodge won 11 and lost just one, just like us, and Western Cuba finished in second place behind the Royal Barangay in Group E.

The Greenblues won 5-1, exactly like the last group game before going into the second round, thanks to goals by De Freitas (2), Groen (2) and Dalziel (1). Meanwhile, Eastfield Lodge won 4-3 against Western Cuba. Other teams in the Quarterfinals are Daritii (who eliminated hosts Darmen, the team with the best group stage record) and West Guiana, the Holy Republican Empire and Filopines, and Luziyca and Mangolana.
