Pasarga (pronounced: pah'sar'ja) is a dual island nation in the region of Rushmore located south of Nethertopia. It is known for being home to a group of Persian descendants, as well as its' unique moon shaped main isle. This island is the largest of the two and is named Pargis, while the smaller island is named Peynol. Pasarga's main industry is toy making, which has only recently developed since it emerged from isolation eight years ago. They practice Zoroastrianism as their main religion, although other religions are allowed though frowned upon. Torgos is the largest city in Pasarga, as well as being the capital. It is the economic and political hub of the nation, with nearly all important political and financial dealings taking place within the cosmopolitan city.

Football(soccer) has recently become a popular past time of the masses, with the growing success of the national team on the international stage. Numerous high-tech stadia have popped up over the last few years to accompany the growing surge of success for the sport. However some of the older stadia, predating the the emergence from isolation eight years ago, are still in use, including the Stadium of the Moon, Stadium of the Sun, and Fire Park. This mix of old and new is seen to be in perfect Harmony for the nations' first attempt at hosting a major international competition.

On a last note, while Torgos might be the poltiical power of the nation and have the most stadia, Stein-los is seen as the footballing capital of Pasarga with its' numerous clubs having won the majority of the PSL titles and with the two most advanced and high-tech stadia in the nation. Visitors and squads that make it to Stein-los will be treated with first class football fanatics and facilities, as well as the general welcoming mood that the Pasargan people possess.

Stadia
Stade de Torgos (Torgos) - 90,000
Taltron Park (Torgos) - 66,000
Silverthal (Torgos) - 60,000
Kilmonarch (Stein-los) - 72,000
Stein-Los Stadium (Stein-los) 59,000
Stilinkeep Stadium (Stilinkeep) 64,000
Telathron (Targas) 72,000
Stadium of the Sun (Belja) 56,000
Fire Park (Troubalose) 62,000
San Daros (Paulinthal) - 64,000
Myrkan Stadium (Myrkan) - 58,000
Stadium of the Moon (Lunas) - 84,000

ICly, two groups will be grouped together in a set of three stadia, with each sharing them so that on the last MD, it would ICly take place over two days, with each of the "partners" getting use of the stadia on a separate day.

In the interest of time (since if I were going to RP using real time, it would take weeks for the response to get to you, and by then the CoH should already have finished), I'll just say that Callidon accepts the bid into the Cup of Harmony.

I don't think I posted an RP during WC49 so I'm not sure I was meant to be invited. As such, I accept, but throw out my entry if it makes numbers awkward.

Edit: No, I did post an RP. So unconditionally accepted.

I've edited my squad list in here

Postby Schiavonia » Mon Dec 28, 2009 5:46 pm

Schiavonia accept the cordial invite. We hope that the cordial is lime.

Schiavonia will be fielding the same squad as the last time they put one forward for the World Cup. However, this was 50 years ago, at World Cup 36. While they did enter World Cup 37, no squad list was ever posted by the SFF. Therefore, the players are now all 50 years older than mentioned here: http://forums.joltonline.com/showpost.php?p=12890404&postcount=50

SFF announce squad for WC36

TEAM MANAGEMENT

Carlos Cueto
Leader of the new Schiavonia, Carlos finished his playing days in Cafundéu and has lived there up until a few weeks ago, when he invited he Schiavonia WC36 squad to meet up on an island somewhere in Atlantian Oceania. He will also be playing in central defence.

David Jones
Team Captain, manager and head of the FA, David will also be playing at left back.

GOALKEEPERS

1. Chris Howard (Age 87. Debut WC 31 (for Socialist Romanistan), WC32 (for Schiavonia))
Quite possibly the most experienced goalkeeper in world football. Since Schiavonia's dissolution, he has played in goal for a different one-cup newbie for the past 12 world cups. Was last seen in goal for one of the worst teams in WC history, EvilDarkMagicians. Although, with them being evil dark magicians, nobody knew it was him.

2. Jimmy Fearley (Age 84. Debut WC34)
3. Jim Brenton (Age 82. Debut WC34)

Schiavonia's two back-up keepers in their last four World Cups, but only single figure caps between them.

DEFENDERS

Centre Backs (CB)

11. Niall O'Henry (Age 78. Debut WC34)
Was a quality player, but was always kept out of the team due to Cueto's overseas experience. And now the fact that Cueto runs the country. A very able replacement, though, for one of such an age.

12. Hugh Brain (Age 77. Debut WC35)
Hugh is one of the most inappropriately named players in football, given that he is incredibly stupid.

13. Matthew Tilda (Age 83. Debut WC33)
"Waltzing" was a bit of a looker in his time. Less, so now he's in his eighties, and also a little less agile.

14. Carlos Cueto (Age 81. Debut WC34)
A special player in Schiavone history, and the only one to play top flight football overseas, Cueto became the best and most adaptable defender in Schiavone history. Although that didn't take much. Saved enough money from the game to reunite this classic squad of half a century ago.

Left Backs (LB)

15. David Jones (Age 82. Debut WC34)
Jones came from nowhere to take a place in the World Cup 34 squad, becoming the team's inspirational on the field leader. Now looks after sport on the island.

17. Jim Neil (Age 88. Debut WC36)
A late developer who never really fulfilled his potential. Indeed, such a late developer that he's still not actually any good.

Right Backs (RB)

16. Andy Bell (Age 87. Debut WC32)
Regularly battled for the right back place in the team with Billy Bird, Bell will play during WC49 due to the fact that Bird is no longer with us.

18. Winston Fowler (Age 71. Debut WC36)
So insignificant at WC36 that they kept Billy Bird's profile. Fowler will offer more than Bird now, and adds some "youth" to the team.

MIDFIELDERS

Ball Winners (MB)

22. Richie Winston (Age 76. Debut WC35)
Richie is the type of player who won't give up, and both in the game and on life itself. Still dreams of playing in the World Cup Final, although everyone else thinks that his chances are quite slim.

23. Jan Tomasson (Age 69. Debut WC36)
Jan is huge. Massive in fact. Uses his size to win the ball, although sometimes uses it a bit too much. And some might say he weighs a bit too much.

Distributers (MD)

21. Kenny Sanderson III (Age 70. Debut WC36)
Son of crazy Kenny Sanderson Jr, the player who left young Kenny to become an Orthodox monk. Kenny III swore to be more like his grandfather, and has shown similarities to him. Although his grandfather would be well over 100 by now.

24. Johnny Adams (Age 82. Debut WC34)
Poor guy looks like never really got a chance first time around, stuck behind legends like Kenny Sanderson and Paul Moston. Will probably get opportunities here, as fatigue becomes a factor on the older bodies.

Creators (MC)

25. Isla Jones neé Blige (Age 84 Debut WC32)
Isla is the younger sister of former Schiavone hero Shiela Blige, who was savaged by a tiger during the Schiavone animal invasion of the year 148. A sex symbol in her youth, Isla calmed down and went on to marry David Jones. Still doesn't look a day over 65.

26. Graham O'Connor (Age 80. Debut WC34)
The younger cousin of former left-back Mike O'Connor, Graham is still behind Isla Blige. Not that most men would complain about that, though his captain might have a word or two to say if he caught him.

FORWARDS

Runners (FR)

35. Jean Leau (Age 68. Debut WC36)
A quick young thing (well, amongst this squad, anyway), Jean was also a sprinter in his youth. Lacks a bit of pae now, though.

36. Frank Lewis (Age 82. Debut WC34)
A more traditional Schiavone forward runner, Lewis was the quickest player in the SchiavOne league. Now needs a bit of assistance.

Strengths (FS)

32. Paul Smith (Age 71. Debut WC36)
Almost as big as Tomasson, and so he should be good for those knock downs for the other strikers. Will arm wrestle anyone, and regularly beats people half his age.

34. James Hogan (Age 82. Debut WC34)
Nicknamed "The Hulk", James is quite possibly the most powerful strength forward that Schiavonia has ever seen. Still standing at over two meters in height and seemingly solid muscle, it will take some stopping this old fella. If only he could shoot...

Finishers (FF)

31. Jerry Berry (Age 86. Debut WC32)
After waiting for so long to see the legend Colin Chester out of the way, Berry got his chance at WC35 to devastating effect, helping te Sloths to third place. Still knows where the target is.

33. Horatio Konstantopolous (Age 75. Debut WC35)
Horatio took Colin Chester's place at club level. Was a success on the international stage, too, but was not as legendary as Chester, Berry or the other famous finisher, WC36 coach Tony Tarmey.

Our first choice line-up is as follows...

1. Howard

16. Bell 13. Tilda 14. Cueto 15. D. Jones

25. I.Jones 22. Winston 21. Sanderson III

31. Berry 34. Hogan 35. Leau

However, there are three alternative formations that are sometimes used. One is the traditional 4-4-2...

1. Howard

16. Bell 13. Tilda 14. Cueto 15. D.Jones

25. I.Jones 22. Winston 21. Sanderson III 35. Leau

31. Berry 34. Hogan

...another, a less traditional variation on the same formation, a 2-4-2-2...

1. Howard

14. Cueto 13. Tilda

16. Bell 22. Winston 23. Tomasson 15. D.Jones

21. Sanderson III 25. I.Jones

31. Berry 34. Hogan

...and finally, 3-5-2.

1. Howard

14. Cueto 13. Tilda 11. O'Henry

35. Leau 25. I.Jones 22. Winston 21. Sanderson III 15. D.Jones

33. Konstantopolous 34. Hogan

The SFF made themselves some dashing kits for World Cup 31, and we doubt they'll be changing any time soon. Mainly because the designers passed away years ago.

A GUIDE TO SCHIAVONE PLAYING POSITIONS

Schiavone football teams generally play in a 4-3-3 formation, but the different positions are not always referred to in normal terms. The goalkeeper (GK) and centre-backs (CB) are as normal, but the rest are not so clear cut.

The left-back (LB) and right-back (RB) are very important in attacking, and generally one attacks down the wing while the other one comes in and covers as a centre back.

Ball winner (MB) is a midfield position that does exactly what you think. They sit in midfield to protect the defence and win the ball back for the team.

A distributor (MD) is a player with very good passing skills, and can switch play or unlock a defence with one pass, but can keep it simple if the situation requires it.

The creator (MC) is a player who runs at defenders with the ball before either shooting or, more often, laying it off for someone else to have an effort on goal. They are good at attracting defenders and so making space for team mates.

The runner (FR) is a player who can run away from defenders and make chances for themselves with this advantage. Not many slow players can play this role, although Shiela Blige is an example of one.

The strength (FS) is what most people would call the big man up front.

Finally, the finisher (FF) is a player who has an uncanny knack of being in the right place at the right time to stick the ball into the goal with an uncanny regularity.

So there you have it. A guide to the Schiavone style of playing football. Hope that was helpful.

Games in Schiavonia will take place on The Field, which will have a capacity of 6,000. There will be a main stand for 5,000 away fans, and the locals will stand around the edge of the pitch.

Image

If you want to interview a Schiavone, feel free. Responses might be a bit slow, though.

Style modifier is +2.

My opponent, if they RP first, can do whatever the hell they like. As long as it is in the friendly Schiavone nature and doesn't involve severely harming or stealing any of the players or the island. For anything that might be a bit outlandish, do contact me first, although I'm usually open-minded to most things. In terms if the usual boxes...
