Schiavonia announce their squad for World Cup 69

After a few years back on the international football scene, Schiavonia decided to try hosting competitions of late, with mixed consequences. Firstly, the first Five-a-Side World Cup came to Schiavonia, an event that saw forty-eight nations represented on our tiny island, started with more people than Craw's plentiful hotels could cope with, and ended with a smattering of Patistanis, who came over to support their team's successful bid for victory. On the downside, it saw inadequate infrastructure, insufficient stadia and the first ever murder in the nation in over 100 years. And then the Baptism of Fire came to town (at the time of writing, it is still going on!). After the Five-a-Side fiasco, the SFF decided to outsource some of the competition, and this definitely made for a more interesting and varied competition than if it had all been on the sunshine isle. Though there was still a mystery surrounding the location of Vunishia's Taylor brothers and worries about the arrival of the Blue Unit...

These hostings were all to do with bringing people to Schiavonia. The nation is currently establishing itself as a top tourist destination for sun-seeking sports from across the multiverse. However, some of the things that have happened during the events the nation has hosted might not have helped with the image of the place. However, the notoriety for being a little island of excessive friendliness and parties aplenty did definitely increase.

And the team? After a successful run to the play-offs in their first World Cup in over sixty years, the Sloths will be attempting to at least emulate that run this time around. Though with fewer play-off positions, this is going to be tough. A run to the knockout stages of AOCAF 44 has kept hopes high, but the squad features players from the new Cafundelese and Garundi populations in Schiavonia.

A GUIDE TO SCHIAVONE PLAYING POSITIONS

Schiavone football teams generally play in a 4-3-3 formation, but the different positions are not always referred to in normal terms. The goalkeeper (GK) and centre-backs (CB) are as normal, but the rest are not so clear cut.

The left-back (LB) and right-back (RB) are very important in attacking, and generally one attacks down the wing while the other one comes in and covers as a centre back.

Ball winner (MB) is a midfield position that does exactly what you think. They sit in midfield to protect the defence and win the ball back for the team.

A distributor (MD) is a player with very good passing skills, and can switch play or unlock a defence with one pass, but can keep it simple if the situation requires it.

The creator (MC) is a player who runs at defenders with the ball before either shooting or, more often, laying it off for someone else to have an effort on goal. They are good at attracting defenders and so making space for team mates.

The runner (FR) is a player who can run away from defenders and make chances for themselves with this advantage.

The strength (FS) is what most people would call the big man up front.

Finally, the finisher (FF) is a player who has an uncanny knack of being in the right place at the right time to stick the ball into the goal with an uncanny regularity.

So there you have it. A guide to the Schiavone style of playing football. Hope that was helpful.

So who are they? Well...

COACH
Kenny Sanderson VI (age 58)

Kenny is the last in the line of Kenny Sandersons, all of whom have either played for or coached Schiavonia, going back to their international debut at World Cup 26. Kenny's elderly father, Kenny Sanderson V was the catalyst behind Schiavonia's departure from international sport and is now the leader of the nation. Although he gets his grandson Benny to do a lot of the more energetic work for him. Kenny was on the organising committee of the Five-a-Side World Cup and Baptism of Fire 56, and was until recently in charge of the SFF.

GOALKEEPERS
1) Viliaka O'Connor (Male, Age 23, Jungle Strike FC)

Viliaka is half Vilitan and, as a result, ages noticeably slower than the rest of the squad.

2) Julio Howard (Male, Age 33, Yellow Stars)
Julio Howard is the great-grandson of Chris Howard, who played for a different one-cup non-RPing newbie in every World Cup between World Cups 38 and 48, representing no less than thirteen different nations in his extensive career. Julio is very much a Schiavonia boy, though.

3) Jonny Lewis (Male, Age 26, Monarchs)
Jonny is also representing Schiavonia in the Skeleton at the Winter Olympics. Mainly because he's tall and skinny and, thus, looks like one.

DEFENDERS
CENTRE BACKS
11) Sala Ramao(Male, Age 30, Garundia Kickball)

Sala was the captain of Garundia's kickball team in the one international tournament they hosted. He was the first Garundi player to feature in the SchiavOne, and is now the first Garundi player to feature as a first-choice starter for the Schiavone national team.
12) Vanessa Lyku (Female, Age 26, Yellow Stars)
Vanessa Lyku is the second generation offspring of a Schiavone and a Rejistanian, from when Schiavonia was roaming the world. Being from karelan blood means that Vanessa is a natural choice in defence.
13) Kim Jones (Female, Age 29, Monarchs)
14) Boris Winston (Male, Age 32, Monarchs)

LEFT BACKS
15) Lenny Tilda (Male, Age 33, Yellow Stars)
17) Poto Kalae (Male, Age 28, Garundia Kickball)

RIGHT BACKS
16) John-Paul Jones (Male, Age 24, Yellow Stars)

John-Paul is part Audioslavian and represented Schiavonia at Biathlon at the Arçon Winter Olympics. But that is only because Benny Sanderson believed that it was cycling and long-distance running. Rumoured to be the creator of the Schiavonia KNOBJOCKEYS shirts.
18) Koli Oueranao (Male, Age 33, Garundia Kickball)

MIDFIELDERS
BALL WINNERS
21) Tony Cueto (Male, Age 33, Yellow Stars [Captain])

Tony is a member of the Cueto family who used to lead Schiavonia. This role is done alongside the Sandersons now.
24) Kerry Jones (Female, Age 25, Monarchs)
Kerry is also on the Winter Olympic roster for Biathlon. Because the SOA thought that it was cycling and running.

DISTRIBUTORS
22) Benny Sanderson (Male, Age 27, Monarchs [Vice-Captain])

Benny is the guy that gets stuff done for his grandfather, although he does seem to think he runs Schiavonia sometimes. To be fair, he's not too bad at it.
25) Emma Trevor (Female, Age 30, Yellow Stars)
Emma has Druidan ancestry.

CREATORS
23) Nicolau de Perreira Tarmey (Male, 29, Petardos S/A Craw)

Of Schiavone / Cafundelese descent. Many Schiavones were left in Cafundéu when their nation vanished during World Cup 37. Not all of them were found, but since the same thing happened to their new homeland, one family found Schiavonia again.
26) Johnny Jones (Male, Age 25, Iskara Daii [Starblaydia])
Johnny is not the brightest - seen when trying to find Garundia when on a boat moored there.

FORWARDS
RUNNERS
31) John Blige (Male, Age 24, Monarchs)

Adding a touch of star quality to the squad, Blige was a regular starter for the Sloths during their previous campaign, and should be amongst the squad's better players here. He even played as finisher in the Cup of Harmony group stage win against Gregoryisgodistan, showing that he is more than just a one-trick pony. (Note - John is not an actual pony.)
34) Alexa Leau (Female, Age 30, Yellow Stars)

STRENGTHS
32) Conrad Hogan (Male, Age 25, Monarchs)
35) Bjørn-Morten Tomasson (Male, Age 31, Yellow Stars)

Bjørn-Morten is part Vanorian, but from the human part of Valanora.

FINISHERS
33) Charlotte Chester (Female, Age 26, Yellow Stars)
36) Aimee Bell (Female, Age 31, Monarchs)

The lower numbers tend to be first choice in each position, but if you're picking a team for me, don't be afraid to include a few who are not. Set pieces are taken by the distributor, apart from penalties (and some direct free-kicks) which are taken by the finisher.

OTHER CHARACTERS

Jenny Jones
- Chief commentator on SIBN's Sound of the Sloths and new head of the SFF. Jenny's knowledge of Schiavone and international football is second to none in Schiavonia.
Kevin Smith - Jenny's co-commentator, who only has the job because his father runs the SIBN. Not the brightest tool in the shed, he can often be found blundering about Schiavonia being a pretty poor reporter. Has his moments, though...

Schiavonia re-started in international football with a population of just 700 and two clubs, but have now expanded to ten times that with additions to their population from the nation of Garundia (red-skinned primitives who have links to the original Schiavonia, their homeland was destroyed by a volcanic eruption) and a Schiavone ethnic population from the former Cafundéu. One of Schiavonia's original 46 islands then emerged from the ocean between Audioslavia and Thatius, thus giving the new Schiavone population - which had outgrown its tiny island home - a new place to live.

When Schiavonia decided to return to the international football scene, they realised that the kits they had in storage were designed almost 150 years ago. So they got in touch with the lovely people at Barrengeka in Astograth, because trees are nice, so having one on the kit would look lovely, too.

Image

Games in Schiavonia will be played at the King Francesco Stadium, Craw (Capacity: 63,000)
Image

The King Francesco Stadium is named after the King of Schiavonia when they first entered into international sports over 160 years ago. On the outside, it is a replica of Schiavonia's first ever national stadium, but under the surface, there are all of the trappings of a modern sporting arena. The new stadium is the home of Schiavonia's national team and domestic team 46ers, and has been built as a place for tourists to Craw to visit and take in a game as they tour the area on holiday.

What else can we tell you about Schiavonia? The people are very friendly (sometimes, too friendly for their own good.) They are incredibly honest, peaceful (apart from the Garundi players, who are noticable by their surnames ending in double vowels) and play as fairly as possible (e.g. deliberately missing penalties if they believe that they have been awarded them incorrectly). They love a celebration. They live on a small island with a pleasant climate. They stem from a surprisingly range of ethnic backgrounds (helped by some of the "friendliness" and celebrations). And the new Schiavone-Cafundélese population are working to make Craw - the nation's largest settlement, with a local population of just 3,000 but with many well-paid, well-treated migrant workers who must buy in to the Schiavone way if they wish to keep their roles - into one of the top sun-seeking tourist destinations in the multiverse.

Right, all of that stuff on the form that needs dealing with. Schiavonia play with a +2 style modifier, and you can do what you like with regards to our matches. Although, if there's anything major going on, it'd be nice to consult the SFF's storyline department first. But really, though... Permissions? Where's the fun in them!?!

If the SFF think of anything else worth mentioning, you will be the first to know!

In retaliation to World Cup 69 being nicknamed 'A Cup for Chaps' by the hosts, Audioslavia have decided upon a small change to their kit: The collar - traditionally white - is now blue.
'The Man' has most certainly had 'it' stuck to him.

Audioslavia is, both ICly and OOCly, rather ancient. The country was founded on December 17th 2002, a period regarded as 'pre-history' by many. The nation originally CTE'd in 2006, was revived briefly in 2007 and 2009, and enjoyed a proper resurgence at the start of 2012, locating itself in Atlantian Oceania indefinitely after IC centuries of rivalries with various nations in the region.

The Audioslavia national side participated in World Cups 4 to 29, made an abortive comeback in World Cup 37, and rejoined the world of international football properly back in World Cup 59. The ancient Audioslavia side qualified for all but one of the World Cups it entered (a young Audioslavia failed during the WC5 qualifying playoffs) and generally maintained a place in top twenty of the world rankings, peaking at #1 during the qualifying phases of World Cups 20 and 21.

Paradoxically, the national team has seen more success in its modern form - a period where quick success is much more difficult to achieve than in the early days. Whereas those early years yielded only the inaugural U21 World Cup and a string of losing finals in the World Cup proper, the modern team won the Baptism of Fire tournament before WC59 and triumphed in the thirty-fifth, thirty-eighth and thirty-ninth installments of the AOCAF Cup. The side have also reached the final of the AOCAF cup on three other occasions, and have reached as far as the semi-finals of the Cup of Harmony.

Modern Audioslavia finally won the World Cup itself in cycle 63, a victory that required a huge amount of luck and some very po-faced, negative football. Audioslavia managed to win the tournament despite going into the qualifiers with a ranking of #53 in the world. Four years later, in World Cup 64, the national side proved that this win, as fortunate as it was, was no flash in the pan when they again took home the World Cup trophy, completing the first ever 'double-double' of winning back-to-back AOCAF and World Cup championships.

Audioslavian footballers tend to be a little on the small side compared to their opponents, with few players standing over six feet (1.83m) tall. These taller, stronger players tend to be goalkeepers and central defenders, though the side will usually have a tall target-man style striker on their roster. The rest of the team tend to average about 5'8 (1.72m) or thereabouts.

Audioslavian footballers are renowned for their high fitness levels and stamina, though a comparitively lithely framed squad do occasionally have problems when facing large, physical teams. Quick, one-touch passing is the key to Audioslavia's midfield prowess, which likes to play at a high tempo, and the side often take advantage of some fleet-footed wingers and full-backs to play through-balls beyond the oppisition's defensive line after having created the space with some quick interchanges.

The side's lack of height and physical strength means defending against corners is often a problem, and their negative, cautious play can play against them if the side find themselves a goal or two behind in the game, assuming their opposition drop back and invite the Audioslavians to come at them.

Kontrapuntzeka has long been the name of Audioslavia's style, taken from the Auskadian word for 'counterpunch'. Audioslavia's ability to hold teams at bay for long periods before hurting them via quick counter-attacks and short bursts of activity helped the side to its two World Cup victories, but as the side's standing in world football has grown, so has the necessity to stamp their authority on games, and the current team, under the direction fo Euran manager Lee Sharp, has taken on a more possession-oriented style, with a high line of defenders, packed midfield and increased reliance on a big 'target man' striker to hold the ball up during counter-attacks, rather than a number of smaller, quicker attacking players to get forward quickly.

Audioslavia's new style involves more pressing in the middle of the field - a tactic that suits the team's high levels of fitness and stamina - and increased reliance on breaking down attacks before they begin and forcing mistakes and misplaced passes from their opponents. How the defense copes with the higher line and increased space behind them remains to be seen.

Audioslavia's squad has traditionally consisted of a multitude of Audioslavians plying their trade abroad, including a number of nationalised foreign-born players. The progression of the LigAnaia, however, has seen an larger proportion of domestic-based players make the national team squad, and the current squad's count of fourteen Audioslavia-based players is a modern record for the national team.

After the modest successes of the tenures of John Ryan and David Reilly, the Football Federation of Audioslavia have turned to Euran superstar-turned-manager Lee Sharp to guide the side at World Cup 69.

Euran journalist Simon Banning has the following to say about the new manager:

Lee Sharp’s career in professional football started as a 17 year old at Euran top flight side Culpapy United, over twenty years ago. After impressing scouts from Euran giants Directus, he was signed for an undisclosed fee and fast tracked to the first team where he became a revelation. He quickly racked up an impressive goal tally and was called up for Eura duty at just 18. By the time Eura was in a position to enter a World Cup qualifying section for the first time after too long an exodus, Sharp was already in his early twenties and smashing records in Euran domestic football. Renowned for his pace, finishing and diminutive stature, as well as his outstanding skill on the ball, he would have an unusually long career for such a pacey striker. He would evolve his game in his 30’s to become more of a centre forward, ensuring he kept playing until the age of 40.

From Eura’s qualifying debut in the 54th World Cup to the mid-60’s of World Cup history, Sharp was an immovable object at international level. He scored an almost farcical 189 goals for Eura from a total of 265 caps, winning two minor friendly competitions (the Market Cup and Next Generation Trophy) and winning a World Cup runners up medal. That medal was won at the 60th World Cup where Eura, who were making their finals debut, shocked the world with thrilling attacking football that took them all the way to the final, dispatching established footballing giants along the way. Sharp was critical to this run, topping the scoring charts of the tournament – and though no official title is anointed these days for Player of the Tournament, he almost certainly would’ve won such an accolade. Tragically Eura fell short against the Holy Empire in the final, but only after Sharp scored another memorable goal that was perhaps only trumped by his legendary equaliser against Bears Armed in the group stage.

In his domestic career, Sharp left the Euraleague during its troubled years stuck in UICA mediocrity, and became by far the most successful Euran abroad. He won league titles and other silverware first at FC Mildrid in Erathore, than at a major club in Civil Citizenry and then in Cafendu before returning to Euraleague in his 30’s. He came back to his old haunt Directus to continue smashing away goals, before in his final season he inexplicably netted a record of 40 league goals in a season – beating the record of 36 set by his Euran strike partner Sam Needle. Sharp was incredibly lucky to score so many in that season and it is worth noting that 8 of the goals were from penalties, but it was nevertheless a great achievement.

After this, he left Directus and bowed out of Euran football to spend two more seasons in Polar Islandstates. Joining Jan Mayen Islanders to reunite with the former Eura boss Ben Randall and good Polarian friend Alexsandr van Sorensen. He performed remarkably well in his first season and was seen by many as the surprise package of the season at 39 years old. The next year he was less key to the Islanders but nevertheless made a very important contribution and scored several key goals that allowed the Islanders to beat the odds and win the league, giving him and van Sorensen title winning send offs. Somewhat tragically, Sharp retired the year before Eura won the World Cup he deserved a medal for, but he was able to take part in the success as Eura’s attacking coach.

Sharp then took on the role of manager of the Euran Under 21’s team, with limited success. His first job managing a club came shortly after at Issington FC, one of the biggest clubs in Apox. He enjoyed a very good first season, securing a high placed league finish and winning plenty of plaudits in the process. However Sharp came to be undermined by a team that had just peaked, with little support from his board, and in his second season they played atrociously. Without the tools to properly replicate his first season’s success, Sharp resigned in principle despite continuing support from the fans of the club.

Sharp now takes over as manager of Audioslavia at the age of 45, and his first act was to appoint Daniel Belgrave, the 42 year old retired goalkeeper who had pulled off a man of the match performance to help Eura win their first World Cup title. It is already expected that Sharp will impose a new way of playing on Audioslavia to try and sustain their lofty ambitions. Sharp will recognise the irony of the fact that the multiple cup winning team of years past famously (or infamously, if you’re Audioslavian) was cut down by Eura in the group stage of the 65th World Cup. The reigning champions and world number one team, led by Israel Klimt who now manages New Montreal States, sunk to quite a low as their golden generation faded. Since then, it’s been years of chopping and changing and inconsistency.

Sharp seeks to end that with a new tactical approach. Sharp has come in with the intention of modifying Audioslavia’s famous counterattacking style to give it a more Euran flavour, ironically like how Kelly Sporadic has enjoyed much success by modifying Eura’s tactics with Audioslavian influences. Sharp will seek to play a higher defensive line and move from a gameplan of counter attacking off the base of a strong defence to one of controlling games by retaining possession cautiously, and then assaulting the opposition through attrition and short bursts of energetic attacking play down the wings and through the medium of through balls. Whether or not he can succeed is a complex question; is he experienced enough? Will his idealistic outlook towards the game and reputation as a star striker but not a leader lead to him struggling to maintain authority? And will an Audioslavian team in transition be able to capitalise on an increasingly strong domestic output?

Credit to Eura for writing this biography up.

Ronda Jude Styrn, or 'RJ', is the biggest story of the current squad. Styrn is Audioslavia's first ever female footballer, picked after a wonderful season at Cazadores Cathair. The selection of RJ Styrn was first hinted at in Lee Sharp's first press conference as national team manager, where he noted his preference for high, pressing football and the necessity of a terrier-like midfielder to close down opposing defenders as they attempted to release the ball.

'Terrier-like' is certainly an apt description. Styrn is 5'5 but with broad shoulders and a low centre of gravity that allows her to turn quickly, shield the ball from defenders and get past them when needed. Styrn is quick over ten yards, though lacks the true pace to properly break away from chasing defenders. Her finishing inside the box is exemplary, though one shouldn't expect too many long distance shots, and though she's a quick and accurate passer she isn't quite the type to create openings. With Styrn as the team's only attacking midfielder (the 4-5-1 line-up features two defensive-minded midfielders), the Bulls are likely to attack down the wing.

The best of the six strikers in the provisional qualifying squad is undoubtedly Arturo Hudson-Blake, but all the same, the taller and more physical Hufdis Uulver is expected to get the nod as Audioslavia strive to replace quick counter-attacking with slower, cautious build up play, which needs a little muscle up front. Rijshaart could be second or third choice up front, but has been moved out on the left side of midfield (where he's currently behind newcomer Jovellanos in the pecking order) meaning striker Jaurtiketa Buruz could well find himself launched into the throng as a substitute.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Serge Rollins will become number 1 after Kajaxo Imaslavii's retirement. Imaslavii's international career lasted twenty-four years, during which he won two World Cups and three AOCAF Cups. Rollins has very large gloves to fill.

Roleplaying permissions: We frown on god-modding if there isn't a sense of humour behind it. Everything else is fine. If you'd like to injure a few players or dish out red cards for a particularly harsh game, go right ahead, go hog wild. Want to injure the entire team in a bus-crash? Fine, but make it good, or suffer the humiliation of having your limbs scattered hither and thither via a blast from my mighty ignore-cannon.

The nation may have changed in name and identity - but the players are the same, the clubs are the same, the history is the same. And there seems no turning back for the Nepharim - champions of Esportiva, fresh from a quarterfinal finish last cycle, they can surely consider themselves dark horses for the Cup itself. There's ambition in the air, and some are daring to dream... could this be their year? The Nepharim go into the World Cup knowing that, for the first time, the burden of expectation is heavily on them - a burden they have never dealt with easily. Representing not only themselves, under a new name and a new identity, but it could be argued representing the entirety of Esportiva, as its strongest side. This could be their moment. But will it?

Overall Record
112 wins - 25 draws - 35 losses
346 scored - 202 conceded

Honours
Champions of the 51st Baptism of Fire, the 6th, 8th and 10th Campionati Esportiva and, for what it's worth, Market Cup 6.
Qualified for World Cup 67 and 68.
Quarterfinalists in WC68 - the first Esportivan to make it that far.
Ranked 12th in the world, 1st in Esportiva.

First Team
Image
Most RPs will list the next game's formation, but this is the strongest team the Cormorants can field.

Tactics
The Sideburnese traditionally play a 4-4-2 formation; that said, the midfield is not entirely flat, with one central midfielder (Brandon/Crowe) dropping deep as a ball-winner and the other (Locke/Mathias) advancing forward to set the play. Their fullbacks like to overlap along the wings to create chances for the two strikers. The more selfish, skilful Cathar (Bittencourt) is supplemented by a deeper-lying target man, Rowland (Kite), who is more than capable of scoring on their own right.

In defence, it's all hands on deck, the pressure being constant and the back four pressing high - Coleman will act as a sweeper. Tackles go in hard and often sliding - this isn't a team afraid to get stuck in. In possession, the Nepharim don't mess about playing from the back, moving it quickly forward in a series of short passes, posing the greatest threat down the wings. They will never dive. In short; possession low, fouls high.

Jess MORTLOCK - 48
Manager

The good times are rolling. After a shaky start, Mortlock has brought Nepharim football into a golden age. Three wins and a draw with hosts and eventual finalists the Free Republics brought them to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, bested only by the Terns - this was followed by a third victory of the Campionato Esportiva. Mortlock has turned the high-pressure, high-tempo Nepharim game into an artform, and the team is well capable of asserting themselves on any team in the world.

Auburn BYWATER - 30
Assistant Manager

Originally in the team with the role of a 'whip' - someone to maintain discipline, keep players in line - when Boyden let his contract with the national team lapse to go and manage Premiership teams again, Bywater made the step up. She's only recently earned her coaching badges, but her man-management skills are more than sufficient for her lack of tactical nous.
1 - Reece COLEMAN - 29 - AFC Mayville (EUR)
1 caps, 1 clean sheets

Coleman might not be comfortable keeping the ball at his feet, but he's got the nerve and the pace to come out and contest a ball even in no-man's land. This is a trait that Mortlock evidently feels will be very much complementary to the high line the Nepharim defence keep. Beyond this, he's a fine stopper who can go toe-to-toe with the world's best when he's in form.

12 - Kieron RIORDAN - 33 - Dwile Warriors (APX)
64 caps, 27 clean sheets

A strong, seasoned goalkeeper, agile, good with distribution and decent with the ball at his feet. Riordan's the sort of goalkeeper with no real weaknesses, and it's his consistency that serves him best - he's not the sort to make dreadful howlers, or take risks on the ball. He's played the hero more than once, too, a few penalty saves for the national team, and those memories are fresh in the minds of most fans. Recently came out to state in the press that if he was no longer the first-choice, he shouldn't keep the number 1 out of respect like Stubbs and Thrift did before him. Mortlock obviously listened.

20 - Diandra BALLARD - 24 - Crisisbless
Uncapped

Ballard was already the second-best goalkeeper in the league at the age of 22, having been the best goalkeeper in Taijan for her two years on loan before that, and part of the AFC Treason youth team that made it to the Youth Cup final. Ballard, in short, has been marked for glory - she'll have to wait her turn for now, but practically everyone can see that she will wear the number 1 someday.
2 - James SLEET (3c) - 29 - AC Tallin (VAL)
Right-back
38 caps, 1 goal

A stalwart rightback who has only recently broken through into the Nepharim first team over Anna Shrike, making his breakthrough in the CE. He's technically skilled, and solid overall, liking to overlap on the wing but also content in a more defensive role.

3 - Cathy STOKES (c) - 31 - AFC Treason
Left-back
118 caps, 4 goals

Though then usually a substitute, Cath Stokes has been here since the very beginning, one of the youngest players in the BoF-winning squad. Since her stint as the number 22, she's secured her place in the first-team, been a star for her club as they won back-to-back titles, had a series of increasingly surreal dreams, slept with Konrad Evans, broke up with Konrad Evans and became captain. A very good all-around left-back, whether going forward or marking back.

5 - Hadrian BELFAST - 27 - Dwile Warriors (APX)
Centre-back
49 caps, 1 goal

Belfast and Marlowe have gelled with time, as opposed to a few years ago where they looked vulnerable. Belfast has evolved into a proper cunt, on the pitch at least, offering the steel of Finnan while also boasting a strong technique. He's looked solid as a rock ever since signing for Dwile, and his international performances have been superb - the professional foul that denied NSI what could have turned into an equaliser last CE final will live long in the memory.

6 - Tosca MARLOWE - 27 - AFC Treason
Centre-back
64 caps, 1 goal

Marlowe's a solid, skilled centreback whose specialty is in clean sliding challenges. She's a patient marker who rarely goes in late. With great anticipation, a fine mentality and a firm but generally fair physicality, she's a bulwark at the back for the Cormorants. She offers Belfast the cover for him to go forward and challenge opponents, secure she'll fill the gap at the back, and they're a formidable combination.

13 - Amanda CLOUGH - 26 - Brinemouth
Left-back
17 caps, 2 goals

Clough has finally finished developing from a fairly defensive player with blossoming technical skills into a fearsome attacking presence down the left wing, perfectly hooked crosses causing chaos in the box. Clough may not have the leadership or skill of the captain, but like much of the squad in general, she's hardly even a full step down in quality.

17 - Karl FINNAN - 31 - Crisisbless
Centre-back
41 caps, 2 goals

Finnan has the heart and steel to truly anchor a defence. While he's lost his starting place due to the superb chemistry between Marlowe and Belfast, he's still an outstanding defender who can really get stuck into an opponent. An aerial threat from set pieces, too - an iconic moment for the Nepharim came when he literally concussed himself to score a header against the Licentians.

19 - Elaine BLACKSTOCK - 29 - Brinemouth
Centreback
Uncapped

A precise, intelligent defender comfortable on the ball, Blackstock was a natural fit for Larissa Garrotte's exceptional Brinemouth team. While likely a fourth-choice centreback, unlikely to see much game time without injuries or a rash of suspensions, Blackstock does offer something different to the team, especially if a more patient game is stressed. Also capable of filling at rightback - not her natural position, but she has the skillset for it.
4 - Michael BRANDON - 29 - Directus (EUR)
Holding Midfielder
71 caps, 3 goals

Deep-lying playmaker and midfield anchor in equal measure, Brandon is every inch the archetypal Nepharim holding midfielder. He's a steadying presence for the squad, the kind who makes those around play better knowing he's covering them. His sharp passing makes him a constant threat to start counter-attacks, too. A quietly essential presence for the Nepharim national team.

7 - Catheline HARPER (vc) - 31 - AFC Treason
Right Midfielder
64 caps, 12 goals

A strong physical presence, heavily tattooed along her arms and with boundless energy, Harper's a classic Nepharim midfielder. A standout in the last World Cup with her ability at set pieces, her ferocious long shots and her accurate early crosses, she's lost a yard of pace but more than makes up for it with the ball at her feet.

8 - Rutger LOCKE - 23 - Violence Chariots
Central Midfielder
8 caps, 1 goal

Locke thought he'd made the move of his career when Royal Rumiatzi picked him up - the fascist government cutting off all ties to the outside world put paid to that. At short notice, the Chariots picked him up, and in return he drove them to a ferocious title challenge, making a frightening partnership with another young central midfielder, Logan Murdoch. He likes to go forward and dictate play, and has a real bag of tricks to foil his marker.

11 - Jess LEINSTER - 25 - Violence Chariots
Left Midfielder
23 caps, 3 goals

Leinster is a key presence for the Chariots, with a dangerous sudden burst of pace that can utterly foil defenders. Not a natural goalscorer, but a constant creator of chances. Originally a surprise pick for the national team, her rise with the Cormorants has mirrored that with the Chariots.

14 - Kunibert MATHIAS - 26 - Brinemouth
Central Midfielder
Uncapped

Kunibert Mathias, or generally just Kurt to Nepharim, had been a key player in Felix's midfield for years, but became one of the fascist regime's most open critics. Openly defecting to Nephara, having lived in Brinemouth long enough to be naturalised, he was a natural pick for the national team. An attack-minded midfielder who likes to take players on personally and strike accurately from distance, but he'll have a hard time dislodging Locke from the team - the playmaker seems key to Mortlock's plans.

16 - Gareth CROWLEY - 29 - Fligsive FC (TIS)
Left Midfielder
58 caps, 9 goals

A very physical, bruising winger, his turn of pace intact at 29. Boasts a fierce shot and a vicious cross, though shorter passing and defensive work aren't really his forte. Temperate off the field, but can get very heated on it.

18 - Andrea CROWE - 29 - Mardi Loppunies (NSI)
Holding Midfielder
12 caps, 1 goal

A creative holding player, perhaps not a midfield enforcer but capable of clean challenges and persistent marking. Adapted well to the Islander style of playing. Crowe's passing is by far her strongest asset, but she's been known to fancy herself with long, driving shots - you can't give her any space to go forward, or she'll punish you.

22 - Kylie PENRITH - 24 - Flying Jellyfish (FFD)
Right Midfielder
4 caps, 1 goal

The word that most commonly comes to mind with Penrith is 'buccaneering'. Or perhaps 'swashbuckling'. Either way, she's a player with genuine flair, the only truly flamboyant player in the squad. Either way, Penrith is a crowd-pleaser, strong and persistent in the attack, perhaps a little unskilled in defence, but by no means with a low work-rate. Any doubts on her readiness were settled when she scored on her debut.

23 - Uli ALSATIAN - 31 - FC Torshavn (PIS)
Central Midfielder
2 caps, 0 goals

For Alsatian, the transition into the Polar leagues was a less than seamless one, relegated in his first season, but his performance earned a transfer where he's been solid for Torshavn. He offers a strong box-to-box presence, and always fancies himself to go forward. The least specialised of the selected central midfielders, as well as the oldest.
9 - Keith ROWLAND - 28 - Holdenberg (EUR)
Striker
29 caps, 14 goals

Keith 'Judas' Rowland has developed into a dangerous target man - easily capable of great moves himself, but his partnership with the selfish but brilliant Rook Cathar up top is just tearing defences apart. His workrate and unselfishness on the pitch is underwritten by a humble, professional personality off it. Just don't tell Holdenberg City fans that.

10 - Rook CATHAR - 27 - East Franz Athletic (PIS)
Striker
35 caps, 22 goals

Cathar was always going to come good in a generic sense, but it's only recently he's been on fire. Largely two-footed, tall, strong, and industrious - Cathar has often been described as 'Gerd Thunder, but with pace'. It's not a perfect analogy - Cathar is less of a physical presence (like basically everyone), less experienced and less inclined to pressure defenders, but when it comes to smashing goals in he's unmatched. A truly world-class striker to lead the line for Nephara; exactly what the side needs.

15 - Georgia KITE - 26 - Maximum City
Striker
Uncapped

A target woman who tends to be moderately prolific, Kite's ability to assist others is only a more recent addition to her skillset. Very fast, physically fit and tall, Kite takes a lot of stick from her fellow players for a refusal to drink alcohol and a stringent personal diet, but it's paid dividends for her athleticism.

21 - Cheney BITTENCOURT - 27 - AFC Treason
Striker
22 caps, 12 goals

Always possessed of remarkable technical and pace, Bittencourt relishes taking defenders on as he moves towards goal. A player who excels at making openings for himself. Compensated somewhat by not really being an aerial or physical presence, but he gets the ball in the back of the net with remarkable regularity. His ability to exploit the mistakes of a tired defence make him a valuable impact substitute for his nation, though he rarely starts.

1 - Reece Coleman (AFC Mayville, EUR)
12 - Kieron Riordan (Dwile Warriors, APX)
20 - Diandra Ballard (Crisisbless)

3 - Cathy Stokes (AFC Treason, c)
5 - Hadrian Belfast (Dwile Warriors, APX)

BRENECIA
Preferred Formation:
4-3-3
Style Modifier: +1.25
Home Stadium: Kingsgarden - recently refurbished, a 58,000 all-seater in the capital of Rozelle.
Kit Supplier: Kirola
Nickname: the Patriots

The king's been sacked - long live the king. After Jon Slatesaver put Brenecia on the map, as they became known for solid performances at the back, impossibly strong showings at home and a fearsome physicality, their purple patch came to a screeching halt later on, as they struggled to get goals, and results slipped. Now, under the management of Catherine Bardsley, the Patriots have a younger and more aggressive feel, with more domestic players breaking into the first-team than ever. Nine players were uncapped by the end of CE10. Expectations are low, but this has the look of a team that might just surprise everyone...

Overall Record
43 wins - 27 draws - 41 losses
151 scored - 154 conceded

First Team
Image
Most RPs will contain the lineup for the next game, but this is the strongest lineup the Patriots can field.

Tactics
Under Catherine Bardsley, the Brenecian national team will play aggressively for the first time in modern history. Assembling in a 4-3-3, Brenecia will rely on a fast, direct game, aiming to pump the ball forward, preferably on the wings. Meanwhile, the three central midfielders will assert themselves on the game - Breton (Armstrong) a largely defensive player, the other two more free of movement and to create play. A very quick, athletic side, Brenecia will hope to catch defences off-guard through the pace of Scherzer up front. With regards to skill, Brenecia are somewhat a patchwork as far as depth is concerned, but they have a solid first-team despite lacking any real star players.

Catherine BARDSLEY - 40
Manager

Bardsley turned Kingsgrove into the best team in Brenecian football, and in doing so broke the defensive, counter-attacking mould of the A-League. Her team played aggressive, assertive, quick football that still knew when to be direct. She hopes to bring that same style and swagger to the Patriots.

Vance STERLING - 42
Assistant Manager

Sterling has never been one for the spotlight; he's been supporting staff for twenty years, a full-fledged assistant for thirteen, as what doctors described as a 'totally fucked' hamstring ended his career at nineteen years old. A Hemingway supporter, but when he fell, took it upon himself to manage the team - a win against Barunia made it an easy decision for Slatesaver to keep him on as assistant, and if the system wasn't broken, Bardsley saw no reason to fix it.
1 - Jayce PENCE - 27 - North Laithland (NPH)
11 caps, 3 clean sheets

Connell's international retirement has successfully paved the way for Jayce Pence to make her breakthrough. She's never really been an exceptional goalkeeper, but her spectacular reflexes (despite her small size - 5'10" and wiry) makes up for her error-prone nature.

12 - Felix CARRICK - 33 - Marque
30 caps, 2 clean sheets

Somehow it all cycles around in the end. Carrick, despite his spectacularly wretched record of two clean sheets, never disgraced himself during the nadir of Brenecia's defence at its most porous. He's a solid all-round goalkeeper, though a little past his prime.

20 - Paul ASHPIKE - 25 - Chenoworth Rovers (NPH)
1 cap, 1 clean sheet

The least experienced of the goalkeepers, but Ashpike proved solid in the Premiership. Young and able to come off his line with great pace to collect balls, and eager to come out of the box to sweep. And, of course, a solid, though unexceptional, shot-stopper. On the whole, all three Brenecian goalkeepers are very even in skill.
2 - Samantha ALLBECK (c) - 31 - AFC Treason (NPH)
Right-back
106 caps, 5 goals

This is likely Allbeck's last World Cup, at least as a starter - but she's been a pillar of strength for the national team. A solid, balanced player and a source of firm leadership and strength within the squad. While the sort of earthy player favoured by Slatesaver, she's more than capable of flashes of brilliance.

3 - Miriam PORTADOWN - 24 - Raven River (NPH)
Left-back
2 caps, 0 goals

Chartreuse was a weak point for the Patriots in the past, and didn't even make the 30-man squad this time around. Portadown cut her teeth in the B-League, made the step up to the A-League with ease and had an outstanding season for Raven River in her first year there. A great technical player, and expected to be one of the strong points where once there was weakness.

5 - Clint GALLAGHER - 31 - Sabrefell Moths (NPH)
Centre-back
7 caps, 0 goals

A rough and ready centreback - tends to be conservative, and is fine standing off opponents, showing them a poor line to goal. Great aerial presence, and a threat going forward for set pieces, but uncomfortable in possession. Not as good as Greig, but complements him well.

6 - Seth GREIG - 30 - Crisisbless (NPH)
Centre-back
25 caps, 0 goals

Seth Greig is the best centreback to have come from Brenecia, without a doubt - a rock in central defence. He is that most special and cherished of centre-backs; exceptionally spiteful. Prefers to go forward up the field and challenge players - pairs well with more conservative, cautious defenders like Gallagher. Attracts yellow cards.

17 - Fiona BERENGER - 22 - Crisisbless (NPH)
Right-back
2 cap, 0 goals

Berenger only recently broke through at Crisisbless, but she's very much the right backup for the Patriots. She's clearly the successor to Allbeck, but her skillset's not the same - far more aggressive and loving to overlap on the wings, but without the same defensive ability. She's backup for now - but who knows what the future will hold?

18 - Emma KELLY - 24 - Goodfeather FC (NPH)
Centre-back
2 caps, 0 goals

A wiry, agile centreback - not perhaps one with the typical attributes of a defender, liking to take possession and run forward, but one with undoubted skills. She'll like as not be more conservative for her country, with just one and not two centrebacks behind her, but she's got a way of pleasing the crowd. A good auxiliary right-back.

19 - Rhea LOCKHART - 25 - Northern Union
Left-back
1 cap, 0 goals

One of the many A-League players to make a breakthrough under Bardsley, Lockhart is a good, though fairly conservative left-back. A good crosser, and capable of threatening with those crosses, but just as comfortable shutting down the opponent on her wing. Has scored precisely one goal in her senior career.

22 - Henrick VANDERTON - 31 - Northern Union
Centreback
6 caps, 0 goals

A somewhat plodding but tactically sound defender, Vanderton is 6'5" and hulking with muscle but lacks real nuance. He won't be a weak point, but he's a little technically lacking for the international grade. Solid, but won't provide much more.
4 - Augustine BRETON - 25 - Brinemouth (NPH)
Holding Midfielder
9 caps, 0 goals

Breton is one of the stars of the team - his breakthrough into Brinemouth as their first-choice holding midfielder was a strong one, and he was key to their back-to-back victories in the league. He's strong all-round, with no real gaps in his play - mostly defense-focused, but like all Brinemouth's players, good with short, forward passing. Very much the sort of player Bardsley wants more of.

8 - Morgan UNDERWOOD - 25 - Vermillion Rage (NPH)
1 cap, 0 goals
Central Midfielder

A strong, strapping young man with a gift for long passes. Athletic and overpowering in midfield, and the sort of player whose drive and commitment are what mark him out. The first to start running and the last to stop. Technically, nothing special, but has the ability to assert himself box-to-box that this midfield otherwise lacks.

10 - Erin CAMDEN - 26 - Parrhesia United (NPH)
Central Midfielder
29 caps, 5 goals

Camden is an iconic player for the team now, coming from nowhere to establish herself in the squad. A superb playmaker, a decisive free kick specialist, and tipped as future captain. Somewhat ironically, half-Nepharim, and played for their U-21 squad, but she's very much a firm part of the squad by now.

15 - Portia KNIGHT - 28 - Falkner United
Central Midfielder
1 cap, 0 goals

Knight was never the fastest player even before a bad ACL injury cut short her pace, as well as any hope of a transfer out of the B-League. But when Falkner returned to the top flight in genuine, fearsome style, Knight marked herself out as the best passer in the league, with an uncanny accuracy long-range and the sort of intelligence that can unlock any defence. Not a bad shot, either.

21 - Kurtis ARMSTRONG - 26 - Iskara Daii (STB)
1 cap, 0 goals
Defensive Midfielder

One of the hordes of players brought into Daii, Armstrong is a capable defensive midfielder who can shut down midfields at a high standard. He might lack Breton's ability as a deep-lying playmaker, but he's every inch his match as a pure midfield enforcer.

23 - Cheney KELLER - 25 - Violence Chariots (NPH)
2 caps, 0 goals
Central Midfielder

A squad player for the Chariots, Keller never flinched when asked to fill in for either part of the exceptional Locke-Murdoch midfield. Here, he has lower expectations to fill. A thoroughly professional player, and a versatile central midfielder who might not be outstanding in any one aspect but has the skillset for any role the situation demands.
7 - Daniel SNOWDEN - 29 - Maximum Rovers (NPH)
Right Winger
26 caps, 5 goals

An energetic, pacy winger, Snowden seemed a little raw earlier in his career but is currently a far more developed player. Creates more chances than he converts, but he has an eye for putting crosses in at the far post for a lurking striker. All that's missing is the defensive ability to match his attacking flair, and even that's not for lack of trying.

9 - Cheney SCHERZER - 24 - Crisisbless (NPH)
Striker
6 caps, 2 goals

A young, dynamic centre-forward in red-hot form for his club, Scherzer was a natural choice to bolster the national team's flagging attack. In no way a complete forward, Scherzer thrives on the support of his colleagues, and can look isolated up front without that - but when given chances, Scherzer's pace, technique and drive always put him in great positions, and he's more than capable of turning them into goals.

11 - Miriam SPITFIRE - 30 - FC Brimstone (APX)
Left Winger
86 caps, 13 goals

One of the few remaining veterans of the BoF team, Spitfire's main asset is her vicious left boot - she prides herself on an ability to beat goalkeepers at their near post, as well as a natural aptitude for crossing. Not exactly a one-trick pony, but not known for her versatility; that said, can fill in at centre-forward when needed.

13 - Isadora CULLEN - 22 - Kingsgrove
Right Midfielder
1 cap, 1 goal

Cullen is two-footed, fast, with strong crosses and a more than decent shot on her, but perhaps needs to work on her team play. She doesn't have a bad attitude, but she's just individualistic by nature. Slatesaver surprised everyone by picking her, but her flair is a natural fit into Bardsley's system; not surprising given that it's Bardsley she thrived under club level.

14 - Cheney BELCONNEN - 25 - Racing Xinghua Baoyam (TRB)
Striker
18 caps, 6 goals

A strong, firm aerial presence with an innate ability to unsettle and outmuscle defenders despite his lean frame, Cheney 'Belco' Belconnen's energy makes him the perfect set of fresh legs near the end of a big match. He's capable of acting in a supporting role up front, but always poses an individual threat that isn't to be underestimated. Tactically, likely to be favoured when Brenecia look to defend a game and strike back quickly on the counter.

16 - Steed CURTIS - 24 - West Brinemouth (NPH)
Left Winger
1 cap, 0 goals

A strong, firm aerial presence with an innate ability to unsettle and outmuscle defenders despite his lean frame, Cheney 'Belco' Belconnen's energy makes him the perfect set of fresh legs near the end of a big match. He's capable of acting in a supporting role up front, but always poses an individual threat that isn't to be underestimated.

Your Guide to Les Oiseaux
The Saint James Islands Men's National Football Team

Football in the Saint James Islands
The sport of football is almost as old as the Saint Jamesian nation itself, and games like football have been played in the archipelago since it was first settled by the ʻo Takiari more than sixty thousand years ago. However, association football, simply called "football" in the Islands, was slow to reach her shores. It would ultimately take a Michillian merchant named Alessandro Buonoventuri to introduce the sport to the Saint James Islands in 1904, where it soon became a massive hit. Football struck a chord with people of all races, ethnicities, languages and backgrounds. The sport enthralled the country so deeply that in a 1964 speech before the National Assembly, the late Prime Minister Ian Rainier said that "[w]e are many peoples and many cultures who share one passion: football. Football is what makes us a nation."

In 1931, Buonoventuri and several other partners formed the Fèdèracion Futballista das Isolas Santo-Jacovo, or "Football Federation of the Saint James Islands", to regulate the sport in the Islands and to form a national team for international competition. The team, who dubbed themselves Les Bleu-Verts after the colours of their kit, defeated Buonoventuri's native Michillies 2-1 in their first international, starting an intense, yet cordial rivalry that exists to this day. Although they enjoyed success in their first match, the Saint James Islands would flounder for the foreseeable future, not scoring another victory until 1945 against Fishing Boat Proceeds. Now, in 2014, the FFISJ and Les Oiseaux have affiliated with the World Cup Committee of NationStates to enter high international competition.

Saint James Islanders are a passionate bunch of people, yet always (well, mostly) positive and ready to cheer their team on with their traditional chant of "Let's go, Les Oiseaux!", pioneered in their 1945 victory over Fishing Boat Proceeds in the People's City. The team and the people are world renown for their hospitality, their sportsmanship and their sense of optimism and boundless drive. A team not afraid to be experimental and tactically innovative, Les Oiseaux stand tall as the representatives of "The Football Nation".

The Arena la Rouge (ah-ray-nah-lah-ROOZH) in Philibiscostal (phil-lib-bis-COST-uhl), Securu is the home stadium for United Philibiscostal, one of the successful teams of the Lega Premiere, and the Saint Jamesian national team. Located in the nation's largest city, itself in the most populous province, the Arena la Rouge can seat crowds of up to 90,000. The Arena la Rouge has hosted many historical games over its storied history, along with the international débuts of four current Les Oiseaux players: Dessantos, Zapatero, Mani and Bercée.
Roster and Formation of the Men's National Team
Les Oiseaux are known to be a very offensive team, subscribing to the philosophy of "the best defence is a good offence." The team tends to use a 3-4-3 formation in games, with wingers a notable omission from the Saint Jamesian playing style. Players dubbed "left/right forwards/defenders" by the team would usually be considered centre players by other nations, and these players can switch between posts on their third of the field when necessary. Defensive players do play slightly farther out to allow more coverage on offensive players, but the Saint Jamesian strategy is to keep possession no deeper than the midfield so as to not have to resort to a defence in the back. In the case that Les Oiseaux needs to cover an effective offensive team, the Islanders will switch to a 4-3-3 strategy, shifting one outfielder from the midfield to the defensive line.
Players in green are the usual starting eleven. The name that will appear on each player's kit is in CAPITALS.

Association Football has always been popular in the land that is now Laiyenda. Brought over by the refugees from Terrair, Football has captured the hearts and minds of the nation since before the nation was born. At points in history, Football stopped wars. At points in history, Football started them.
By the 1870s, with the formation of the United Cities, the first official national league was created. It was known as the UCFL, the United Cities Football League. When the United Cities collapsed the power of the game of football kept the league together, and united divided citizens across the land.
In the early 1900s, as Laiyenda was being established, Gridiron Football began to take its hold on the land. The first major gridiron league popped up in the 1920s and almost led the Alpha League (what the UCFL had renamed itself after the U.C. Collapse) into complete collapse. But, alas, the government stepped in and began providing funds to save the country's time honored national past-time. The AL officially rebranded itself, and the game of football, when it renamed itself the SLL, or Soccer League of Laiyenda.
During the economic recession of the 1940s, the nation's leading gridiron football league fell into bankruptcy while the SLL stayed afloat thanks to government support. This brought about the resurgence of soccer throughout all of Laiyenda. Soccer is still the most popular sport in Laiyenda to this day.
This is where the international team comes in. Throughout history, Laiyenda has been known to keep to itself, be it in wars or sports. Recently, as Laiyenda has become bigger the fans of the SLL have been calling for an international team to be assembled to send to the World Cup. Then, in 2012, President Dwight Snow helped pass a budget plan that allocated millions of Laiyens to the formation of an international soccer team, a training facility, and anything else the team would need to get to the World Cup.
And now...ready or not...here we are.

Thanks to the team's widespread success, and advancement down to the final eight in the tournament, the One Team Project has had a recent surplus in funds. This has helped the team a lot. Bonuses were provided, two new players were added to the national roster, and more luxurious transport was afforded.
The depth was also changed as many players proved themselves to be worth more than expected, while some proved to be worthless.

Director - Mr. Matthew Stevens
Financial Manager - Mrs. Betheny Robertson
Fan Director - Mr. Christopher Weekes
Team Manager - Mr. Dean Christopher
The One Team Project is the name given to the project to get a national team to the World Cup. The project is heavily funded by the federal government and several big, national business sponsors.
The One Team Board was happy about the fans' reaction to the team at home. But, the fan presence at the actual tournament was almost zero. Due to this, the Board has approved to give all-expenses-paid trips to the World Cup to several hundred Laiyendan citizens.

Coach
1. Ronnie O'Daire - Douglas Port FC - Coach of the best football club in the SLL, Douglas Port FC. He prefers to play a defensive game, though played a more offensive game half-way through the BoF due to push by the team's attackers and the Director of the One Team Project. Outside of the game he promotes team unity by holding team only meetings behind closed doors that sometimes the team will be seen leaving with tears on their faces.

Goalies
1. Darius Barnes - Douglas Port FC - The oldest player in the SLL, he has over 15 years of experience at the goalie position. Despite his age, he is still the league's leading goaltender.
2. Chase Bone - Maide FC - Despite being in the SLL only 2 years, he has helped leade Maide FC to the cup game twice, winning it once. He is known as the young, cocky goaltender who will gladly wave a finger at you if he stops your goal attempt.

Forwards
1. Dante "D Squared" Durant - Douglas Port FC - Durant is the top goal scorer in the SLL and has been ever year of his career except his rookie year. From an abusive home, he struggled through life to make it to where he is today, and he willingly gives all praise to his mother and to God. He comes off a BoF where he scored 9 of the team's 18 goals and was responsible for assisting 4 more. He is a HUGE part of this team's offense.
2. Quantavius Watts - Maide FC - The son of a billionaire business man in Douglas Port, Watts had his choice of colleges, but went to none. After graduating high school at the top of his class, he dedicated his life to football. He soon was given a chance in the SLL and scored a goal right off the bench.
3. Nick Wallace - Valley - Wallace almost did not make the international team because of his attitude. He has a tendency to hog the ball, especially near the end of the game. Nick is also a bit of a hot head, one time he even started a fight with his own team mates on the field.
4. Eliot Thorpe - Sporting CC (Chess City)
5. Jackson Bell - Maide FC

Mid-Fielders
1. Mark Walker - Maide FC
2. Nathan Mills - Mayren FC
3. Scott Williams - Maide FC - Scott is one of the better mid-fielders in the SLL. He is well known for coming out of the mid field to help the attackers on crosses and goals. Sometimes this does not go over well with the coach because Williams has a tendency to play more in the attacking position than the mid-field.
4. Ramon Regal - Sporting CC
5. Davin Wilkes - Douglas Port FC
6. Larry Perry - Easton FC

Defenders
1. Tyler Evens - Easton FC - Evens is one of the highest paid players in the SLL, simply because he is all Easton has. Without Evens, Easton FC would have lost all of their games in the past 2 seasons instead of just 2. He does happen to be the best defender in the SLL, and his ego reflects it.
2. Michael Wall - Maide FC - Another one of the great defenders of the SLL, he missed out on the BoF due to injury but is now fully healthy and ready to take on anything.
3. Tyrone Barnes - Valley - The brother of Darius Barnes. In a game between Valley and Douglas Port FC, he threw water in his coach's face as he insulted his brother during a pep talk. They are...very close. Was moved up on the roster after an amazing BoF.
4. Peter Grant - Douglas Port FC
5. Robert Hale - Mayren FC
6. Zachary Teal - Douglas Port FC

Foreword

This years representative team for Nassau in the 69th World Cup of Football has much work to do (to say the least). This year is the first where the nation actually formed a tryout system that included male Hessians only of ages twenty and over. Last year did not do so horrid in their respective group (granted there was not much competition). They finished out with a rough mediocre record.

The footballers of Nassau most notably come from the vast mountainous region of Kuthoderia (you can clearly see this through their names, which are almost completely traditional). The entire region was ecstatic when they found out that they were able to represent the entire nation in the World Cup. There are few familiar faces in the squad like star Blanco Chubbs and his counterpart Zarambaga (who both moved up just in time to stay on the national team. Otherwise there were a few predictable local legends who made the team and a handful of unexpected underdogs. The Eagles were equipped for whatever would and could come at them, that is, except for a little reunion with their Baptism Class.

The only competition done in preparation for the World Cup qualifiers was the challenging Beltane Cup. The tournament in General was a miserable failure. They only managed a lone undeserving tie with no wins to be seen the entire tournament. The efforts were lackluster and the array of frightful scores took the Eagles out with their metaphoric tails between their legs. This experience which has haunted the team can be redeemed only through the largest of stages, the grand World Cup.

The Kuthoderians come into this tournament with a few main goals in mind. The first and foremost of these is to establish a positive chemistry between players and to adapt further into the defensive format that heavily relies on counterattacks while they're at the first one. The third goal is to come out of the tournament with a reason to hold their heads high. This can most easily be achievable by a simple winning record. The Nassauites are anxiously waiting to show everything they have, can do, and represent in this gigantic event.

All-Time Record: (W-D-L) (28-16-40) | 7-1-2 under Cardona

Coaches:
Head Coach: Daniel Cardona (FEL)
Assistant Coach: Esther Sapp
Assistant Coach: Cecil Herberts

The first Felixian head coach, who led the squad to second place in Felix's Baptism of Fire, is delighted to be apart of this rising squad. The team reminds him of when he was starting off with Felix. His all time record is 24 wins, 20 draws, and 19 losses, and hopes to bring Yttribia some well deserved victories on the pitch of life. He is joined by Cecil Herberts, and Esther Sapp. Herberts was the interim head coach for the sixtieth Cup of Harmony, while Sapp is the head coach of AC Zevella. Cardona surprised the region by leading Yttribia to the quarter-finals of the recent Campionato Esportiva, bringing them to sixteenth in Esportivan rankings.

About Yttribia:
A nation of 46.000.000, Yttribia is located between the nations in Thrilledge and Byfugland, on the continent of Inferiore, in the region of Esportiva; its capital being Fontvieille. The nation's border between the two countries consists of a mountain range known as the Urellans, where most of the Urellians live. There are six official languages, and (in order of usage) they are: English, Spanish, Catalan, German, French, and Italian. The rest of the nation is mostly at sea level, with some of the most gorgeous beaches in the multiverse.

Culturally, Yttribians are proud of how godforsaken they are, with the majority of citizens being listed as godforsaken. A sizeable minority belong to the satirical church, known as the Church of Vilhjalmsson, and a small minority belong to the Urellian Church of Christ. The government has been shrunken down a bit since the last World Cup, and now most power lies within the regions of Yttribia. Politically, most Yttribians used to identify on the left, with the Convergence being the largest registered party in the nation. Others include "el Sindicat del Trellabadores" or the Workers' Syndicate, Partito Verde or the Green Party, the Liberal Party, and the Conservative Party, as well as the Corvax Party. However, due to a certain amount of frustration with the government, the Corvax Party, an affiliate of the Corvidae movement in The Inevitable Syndicate, took control of the nation, effectively banning all political parties.

In the time between the second edition of the Beltane Cup and now, Yttribia went through a sort of period in which the time-space continuum slowed down the aging process for everyone in Yttribia, with the World Cup being held once every four years in Yttribian time is now held every two years.

The largest five cities in Yttribia are (descending down) Fontvieille, Telino, Gremalsco, Zevella, and Delare Minon.

Home Stadiums
Estadi dels Núvols, Gremalsco, Penedès | cap. 105,000
Image

The largest stadium in all of Yttribia, Estadi dels Núvols now serves as the dual home for the national team, as well as being the current home of Yttribian football club, Gremalsco FC. Finally built for Gremalsco FC's growing amount of fans from all across the nation who seem to travel from the entire eastern side of the nation, the stadium is considered one of the safest in all of the nation, with various food stands and restaurants built inside the stadium, so the place is always busy, whether a match is playing or not. The stadium is barely inside the city limits, and is connected to by the National Railway, and various rapid transit lines.

Le Nid Violet, Fontvieille, FCD | cap. 81,800
Image

A brand new home for Fontvieille FC, and the second largest stadium in the entire nation, Le Nid Violet has hosted various sporting events throughout its short history. The stadium has hosted the forty-ninth UICA Series B Champion's Cup Final, as well as the fourth UICA Youth Cup semi-finals and final match. The stadium has also hosted the final series of the Campionato Esportiva de Pallancesto II, which was won by Taijan. The stadium is considered the most technologically advanced, with a large JumboTron above the pitch, secured from falling down during a match. Located in downtown Fontivieille, the stadium is considered one of the main terminals for the Fontvieille Underground, with various lines passing through the stadium. Underneath the stadium is Fontvieille's largest shopping center and food court, with 250,000 people visiting the shopping center, and food court from Yttribia and Esportiva per week.

Formation:
3-5-2

Whatever happened during the Campionato, worked. Cardona is going to keep this formation, proving that the wingers are really effing effective when it comes to scoring, beating arch rivals The Sarian three goals to nil on route to the quarter-finals of the CE, where they lost out to the eventual champions from Nephara, formerly New Sideburn. The Yttribian National Team have not had such a quality start since Simon Jewel led Yttribia to win their first five games in the fifty-fourth edition of the Baptism of Fire.

Style Mod:

Roster:
Goalkeepers
#1 - Ulrich Draper - 30 - GK - Mardi Lopunnies (NSI)
#20 - Ferdinand Forney - 30 - GK - FC Delare Minon (3rd)
#23 - Michi Totso - 19 - GK - Iskara Daii (STB)

With the time-space continuum affecting the aging process, all Yttribians have begun to age at a much slower pace now, so retirements that were announced throughout the second edition of the Beltane Cup are being put on hold, seeing as they're now able to play for a couple more seasons of football for the nation they love and care about. Goalkeeper Ulrich Draper is back for his third consecutive cycle, as he continues to play net, after promising keeper and rumored started Gaspard Irvin defected the glorious nation for the damn country of Mastille. His loss not ours. Meanwhile, Cardona hopes to put in Ferdinand Forney and Michi Totso behind the net once, in order to give them some experience playing for Yttribia.

Defenders
#11 - Rico Mathews - 27 - CB - Jungle Strike FC (VIL)
#14 - Dezi Burns - 26 - CB - AC Zevella (2nd)
#15 - Xavi Vilhjalmsson - 28 - CB - Crystopolis City (CRY) (C)
#17 - Tanner Dickinson - 27 - CB - AC Zevella (2nd)
#21 - Darren Quinones - 29 - CB - FC Delare Minon (3rd)
#22 - Bradley Gaspar - 27 - CB - Miners '47 (APX)

Xavi Vilhjalmsson, the greatest Yttribian player so far, now has a few more years to play as captain for the Yttribian Ravens. Thanks to the amazing time shift, now most of the squad has the ability to continue to take the nation into future glory, as they hope to qualify for their first ever World Cup Finals. Or maybe they'll crash and burn, get an invitation to the Cup of Harmony, and still get zero effing points. That's life. Meanwhile, Dezi Burns of AC Zevella, and Rico Mathews of elite Vilitan club Strike FC will be the other two centre-backs, who will be the main line of defense for Yttribia

Midfielders
#2 - Antonio Abreu - 30 - CM - Alianza FC (SJG)
#3 - Onésime Rios - 31 - DM - AC Izotz Zubia (AUD)
#4 - Dado Hale - 20 - RM - Fontvieille FC (1st)
#5 - Franck Langois - 21 - CM - Gremalsco FC (4th)
#8 - Ned Goode - 26 - DM - Northbrook Diamonds FK (PIS)
#9 - Crofton Abbatantuono - 26 - LM - AC Zevella (2nd)
#13 - Michel di Mercurio - 25 - DM - Issington FC (APX)
#16 - Tom Prescott - 22 - CM - AC Zevella (2nd)
#18 - Josué Triggs - 21 - LM/RM - Stemanisis SSC (5th)

The midfield is one of the youngest the game has seen, with various players young enough to be on the Under-21 squad playing with the senior team. The youth of this midfield is surprising, considering the fact that most of the others are pretty young. The highly coveted spot of defensive midfielder will be shared by both Michel di Mercurio, a new member of Issington FC of Apox, and Ned Goode, of powerhouse club Northbrook Diamonds.

Attackers
#6 - Raúl Monti - 23 - FC - Serraville CC (6th)
#7 - Terry Hyme - 27 - FC - Avenida Principal (FFD)
#10 - Venceslás School - 28 - FC - New Oslo Town (TSA)
#12 - Moisés Fairclough - 26 - FC - Hellenic Rouge (PAS)
#19 - Bruno Arce - 19 - FC - FC Delare Minon (3rd)

Bruno Arce, the young footballing prodigy who transferred over to powerhouse FC Delare Minon has been given one of the permanent starting spots on the Yttribian team, with the other forward being rotated on an alternate basis. However, the strongest player who could assist Arce would be Terry Hyme, the forward for Farf club Avenida Principal, as he was a breakthrough superstar in his first season, and hopes to continue to make an impact.

The Inevitable Syndicate Presents...
Image
The Inevitable Syndicate National Football Team
For The 69th World Cup

The 69th World Cup Qualifiers are finally upon us, and Gerald Montier, pleased with the squad's performance in AOCAF 44, has left the team unchanged for this year's outing to the multiverse. After the terrible performance two years ago in World Cup 68, the Syndicate have licked their wounds and are hoping for a top finish in the qualifiers at least, and a performance in the finals that sees them going past the group stage.

And to be fair, with a team like this, why shouldn't they? A squad full of international superstars, such as Jacob Pratt, Bradley Birch, and Spencer Fox, a team that is close knit and knows how to work well with each other, unlike some of the other teams in the multiverse. While some players may still be adjusting to their new intra-national clubs, such as David Tavel and Andrew Watson, these guys know this squad like the back of their hand, and the two defenders often prove invaluable when the going gets tough.

So, with a strong squad, a manager that's coming into his own, and with the nation at what some could call it's peak, spirits as far as the game is concerned are at an all time high. This might finally be the Syndicate's cycle, and could even top World Cup 66...

KITSUNIA-DEESSE'S WORLD CUP 69 ROSTER
LES GUERRIERS

Returning to another World Cup, les Guerriers changed a bit. Thanks to the development of a new amulet that allows Kitsunians to look human, the team from Superiori, Esportiva believes that they will look less weirder to the rest of the world. Their football is still a bit wonky, but the team still looks forward to the possible bright future that their leader believes is on their way.

STAFF:
Manager: Morten Rasmussen, 64
Record in Charge: P 157, W 125, D 19, L 13, GF 334, GA 117, GD +217, WP 80%
After guiding the Terns to three finals in a row, including finally lifting the World Cup trophy, Rasmussen's streak was broken in the Free Republics and the Terns came third. Whilst not the position the team would have been aiming for, this is still a great achievement of course, and generally speaking the Terns have never been higher - a fact underlined by a record fourth Copa Rushmori win. Former FC Axel Heiburg boss Morten Rasmussen took over at the helm of the Terns five cycles ago now and in that time he has been a revelation, turning the side into one of the hardest teams in the Multiverse to beat - I mean, two of his thirteen defeats in charge of the Terns have been in the World Cup final for Thor's sake! The squad shake-up afforded to him by injuries at the Copa were appreciated, but he has selected much the same squad as the last World Cup, barring a few exceptions. With the hardcore of this team having lifted the trophy and looked entirely capable of retaining it last time around but for that one defeat, it is thought that the management believe this core of players have one last serious shot at the title before a restructuring. There are more than a handful of players that will be looking at their age and wondering if they'll be around come the next tournament, but for the meantime, they're just on the edge of their peaks. Heia Terns!

Assistant Manager: Iulian Finnibaturinn, 41
With hard-nosed Steffan Pekarik off to find an international managerial job of his own, Rasmussen turned to Surtsey Island Gulls coach Finnibaturinn to fill the seat to the right of him in the dugout. Finnibaturinn played for the Terns a huge ninety-seven times - four times as captain, scoring four goals in the process. He might have retired just before Rasmussen took charge of the Terns, but that doesn't mean he was ever unknown to his new boss, with Rasmussen trying to sign him several times whilst FC Axel Heiburg manager. Pekarik was a born winner, and a tough fighter, and it is thought that Rasmussen has brought in Finnibaturinn because he shares those exact attributes. Once thought of as down and out, he fought his way back into the Terns squad after having found himself at imploded league after imploded league, with a move back to Surtsey and a Champions' Cup medal at Urbizania Wanderers to show for his efforts. Never gave up as a player, and doesn't do so as a coach either. An inspired appointment from Rasmussen.

PLAYERS:
#1 - GK - Iulian Kirilaunen - Age 30 - Image FC1. Surtsey Island Gulls Image - 92 Caps, 1 Goal
Kirilaunen marked being handed the number one jersey at Surtsey by almost immediately producing some outstanding performances to help the Gulls exceed all expectations with back-to-back appearances in the Champions' Cup semi-finals. Being thirty years old means he is a goalkeeper at the peak of his abilities, and he represents his national team as the number one with all of the calmness and authority required. During the match he catches the eye with his consistently good positioning and the organisation of his back four, and despite his closest rival for the number one jersey winning the Champions' Cup, twice, Iulian still holds onto it thanks to his lack of reliance on the defence in front of him. There's a good reason for this, and his speed off his line when acting as a sweeper-keeper will no doubt save the day on the occasions that see his team-mates getting caught flat-footed. Against Saintland in WC68 he even became the first ever goalkeeper to score for the Terns.

#2 - DR - Moses Luc Bjerregaard - Age 23 - Image SK Franz Josef City Image - 67 Caps, 22 Assists, 7 Goals
At just seventeen years of age, Bjerregaard was the youngest player to get a call-up to the Terns squad since Alexsandr van Sorensen, and it's not hard to see why. Still only on the verge of his twenty-fourth birthday, he is lightning fast, fearless, with a wicked control of a dead ball, and has a willingness to run at players that means Bjerregaard has all the credentials required to be a fine right winger. However, when you add a tough tackle, the ability to read the game, and a keen positional sense into the equation, it's easy to see why Bjerregaard can make such a devastating wing-back. Hence, he is perfect for Rasmussen's formation. His strength in the air can leave something to be desired, but he's still young, and coming off the back of some stunning performances in international football he was brought back from Astograth to Divisjon One by SK Franz Josef City. He's on the verge of becoming a global superstar, and Rasmussen will have to manage the attention and hype carefully.

#3 - DC - Aapo Nordenberg - Age 29 - Image Northbrook Diamonds FK Image - 67 Caps, 2 Assists, 4 Goals
Oyen-Spekke's retirement left a gap at centre-back that Rasmussen could have filled with any one of the many talented centre-backs that the nation is awash with at the moment. In the end, he opted for the player who was brought from FC Torshavn to East Franz Athletic to replace Oyen-Spekke there as well. Nordenberg had previously found it easy to slip under the radar and avoid the hype, though at East Franz his quietly impressive performances changed that, and he was sold to Ituraitz FC in order to balance the books; where he excelled. The implosion of the Astograthian league saw the Spires attempt to re-sign the player, but it was Northbrook's bid that tempted him more, and he joins his club captain Kohev Küngas-Vaga in the Terns back four now. Quiet, considered, and a scholar of the game, his game reading is excellent, meaning he is often able to make a challenge and prevent a dangerous situation before it even materialises. This lack of eye-catching last minute tackles contributes towards his relatively low-key profile, though they are of course also indicative of his ability to stop them being necessary in the first place. Tall, strong, and with a fine touch, Nordenberg is one of the ball-playing central defenders that are now becoming the vogue around the leagues. An instrumental part of the World Cup winning squad and at the peak of his abilities right now.

#4 - DC - Morten Salo - Age 30 - Image Revolutionaries (EUR) Image - 59 Caps, 1 Assist, 5 Goals
Blunt, abrasive, and aggressive; Salo is anything but the life and soul of a party. Not that this matters in central defence, of course, and whilst he will be the first to admit his fondness for hoofing the ball out of danger as soon as possible, this can sometimes be the appropriate response. With a sly elbow here and there, Salo is the master of getting away with little fouls when the officials aren't looking, and he can often be seen arguing on the pitch with his teammates, opposition strikers, the match officials, and even his own management team. He only does this because he has the team's best interests at heart however, and he is a keen team player; always being relied upon to give his all for his team, something his new teammates at Revolutionaries no doubt appreciate. You want him with you rather than against you, that's for sure.

#5 - DL - Kohev Küngas-Vaga - Age 33 - Image Northbrook Diamonds FK Image - 190 Caps, 33 Assists, 19 Goals - CAPTAIN
This defender is well known and trusted by just about the entire nation, and after having taken the armband after the retirement of Alexsandr van Sorensen, Kohev will forever go down in history as the Terns' first World Cup winning skipper. As captain for club and country, he is a combative and battling left-back, though he is a talented centre back and defensive midfielder as well, and this enthusiasm and adaptability is something that Rasmussen will be able to make good use of. Originally moving to the first team as a result of Edvar Folke's previous hamstring tear, his athleticism was called upon to offer support and attacks from down the left side, and he later ousted the SK defender from the starting XI entirely. One of the youngest players to ever move past a hundred caps for his country, he is almost guaranteed to become the third to move past two-hundred this cycle. Will this be his last World Cup for the Terns? At thirty-three it could be, we'll just have to see how things go.

#6 - DMC - Eikr Lillehammer - Age 30 - Image Cednia Beach AFC (TUR) Image - 84 Caps, 8 Assists, 5 Goals - Vice-Captain
Eikr Lillehammer was never even in contention for an u-21s berth in his youth, and indeed he was let go by the Northbrook Academy without much fanfare and picked up by AFK Hans Island Pioneers. Performances there lead SK Aasiaat Harbour to purchase his services a few seasons ago, and by the end of his first year there he’d very much played his way into being one of the first names on the team sheet. With a battling mentality and a whole heap of confidence, Eikr is flying, and Rasmussen had an easy decision when it came to deciding who was going to replace Sudesval in the starting line-up. He played astonishingly well in the World Cup final, earning the Man of the Match award for his endeavours as well as the chance to make a move to Turori giants Cednia Beach AFC. Always one to rely on in the big games, Lillehammer put together a string of impressive performances as his club powered to the Globe Cup title - let's hope he'll be bringing the same determination to the Terns this time around.

#7 - MC - Bjorn Konigstein - Age 25 - Image SK Franz Josef City Image - 36 Caps, 9 Assists, 6 Goals
With all the money at SK's disposal and all the attraction of playing for the biggest club in the Federation, they can pretty much bring in whoever they want. How remarkable, therefore, that the diminutive Bjorn Konigstein has fought his way through the youth academy and has been commanding a place in the starting line-up for years now. Full of youthful enthusiasm and energy, he's got a sort of magnetic presence on the pitch that just seems to draw the ball towards him, and he is adept at launching forwards and finishing attacks with a sweet strike from the edge of the area in his role as a classic box-to-box midfielder. Rasmussen was impressed with his performances during the last Copa and subsequent friendlies, and as such he was given a run in the first team during qualifiers. He's now here to stay. A real talent.

#8 - MC - Svenbjorn Einarsson - Age 29 - Image Mâ Âlâmëómë (FFD) Image - 61 Caps, 8 Assists, 7 Goals
Red Star make a habit of producing impressive midfielders recently, and their management were frustrated that Einarsson was another one allowed to slip away through their fingers. In Svenbjorn's case, it was to Farfadillis, where his experience has seen him drop the "defensive" prefix from his job title and start adding goals and assists (not to mention player awards and general Farf craziness) to his game. Strong and acutely accurate with his passing, Einarsson always gives his all on the pitch, where his youthful energy and willingness to chase any seemingly lost cause can change games late on. Though, questions remain over his ability to stay calm when provoked, something working with Pekarik hasn't exactly helped. It is hoped therefore that Finnibaturinn will mellow him out a little, and he is allowed the chance here to develop a partnership of sorts with his previous rival for the same spot - Konigstein.

#9 - ST - Gustaf Kolehmainen - Age 31 - Image SK Franz Josef City Image - 103 Caps, 12 Assists, 66 Goals
With a vicious right boot and a desire to succeed, Gustaf Kolehmainen was perhaps the player upon whom Surtsey built their recent success, and is still the player that proves the difference for the Terns time and time again. How devastating for the Gulls therefore that a series of personal tragedies left him feeling like he could no longer stay in the city, leading him to make a move for SK Franz Josef City of all teams. Has scored sixty-six goals for the Terns in just a hundred-and-three matches so far, guaranteeing him a place at the table of all-time greats. This is only fitting for a player capable of utilising his broad range of talents to fit into whatever formation he is required to do so. He can lead the line, he can support it, he can poach, he can hit screamers, he's strong, he's fast, he's two footed, he's strong in the air; he's the perfect all round striker, and Surtsey's loss is SK's gain. Lost form dramatically at the start of the last qualifying campaign due to some tragic off-field circumstances, but managed to use those feelings to fuel his performances on the pitch by the end of them, and the way in which he terrorised defenders at the World Cup served only to underline his position as one of the Multiverse's most feared strikers. This could potentially be the last World Cup we see him leading the line in the number nine shirt, so make the most of it - he's a joy to watch.

#10 - MC - Jean-Eric Villeneuve - Age 32 - Image Northbrook Diamonds FK Image - 145 Caps, 79 Assists, 23 Goals
Moving back to Northbrook from Cap Nordique in Cotdelapoms, Villeneuve is a creative attacking midfielder in the same mould as Lepka and Demarchelier and, like the latter, he hails from the Rochefroides community of Ellismare. Fluent in five languages, he is incredibly intelligent as far as footballers go, and his range of passing and vision on the pitch is evidence of this. Not the fastest player to have ever hit the turf, he lets the football do all the hard work for him, which can lead to his apparent lack of effort being an easy target for disgruntled fans is results aren't going so well. Fortunately, with Jean-Eric in the side, this is rarely the case, and with the help of Rasmussen's encouragement and Finnibaturinn's drills, even his pace and athleticism is staying constant, with the astonishing number of assists he got at the World Cup proving to be the fruits of his labours. He's at the height of his game right now, and has been moved forwards into the number ten role as a result, partially in a bid to cover his relative lack of pace in getting back to defend - a task that would be rather more urgently asked of him were he still playing in the midfield - and partially to shoulder the burden of replacing van Sorensen's spark that Zeljeznicar was apparently unable to bear with reliable results.

#11 - ST - Torsten Wolff - Age 28 - Image FC1. Surtsey Island Gulls Image - 57 Caps, 5 Assists, 24 Goals
Having made a good impression with the u-21s, Wolff has had to wait patiently for his chance in the first team thanks to the strength of the Kolehmainen-Saarinen partnership, but since getting that chance he has appeared in nearly every game since. With new young strikers also in the frame to take the spot in the first team, you can be sure Wolff will be aiming to continue to improve his goals/game ratio here in qualifying. With an easy-going nature, his partnership with Frederiksen at the DBC had a distinct air of the odd-couple about it, but it nonetheless worked quite well, and his keen eye for the top corner of the goal from wherever he is in the box has made his excellent poaching skills a fan favourite. Having pipped Frederiksen in squad decisions time after time, he'll be looking to cause some damage here in order to prove his selection justified. Turmoil in Iturributa means he's returning to Divisjon One with Surtsey, and yes; he's heard all the wolf jokes already.

#12 - GK - Artemiusz Korzhanenko - Age 33 - Image SK Franz Josef City Image - 50 Caps
Korzhanenko is nigh on unbeatable when running out for the ball in the box. He also has a great record in penalty shoot outs, and was there providing vital coaching to Kirilaunen in the minutes before the shoot-out against Eura in the World Cup whilst a substitute. Although he has lost the number one jersey to Kirilaunen over the course of the last few cycles, Korzhanenko is the perfectly professional, and you won't see him causing a fuss from the bench - he knows that it is ultimately great for the team that the two best keepers for the national team are competing against each other with the two best teams of recent years in Divisjon One. A great calming presence to have in the locker room, and a two-time Champions' Cup winner as well.

#12 - GK - Leif Ulsletten - Age 26 - Image Red Star Severny Image - 8 Caps, 1 Assist
With Alexis Sand carrying a minor niggle into the last Copa, Rasmussen turned to Red Star goalkeeper Ulsletten for the number thirteen shirt at the tournament, giving him a run of three games in the friendlies that followed the tournament. Having only just made his breakthrough for his club, the call-up looked to have surprised Ulsletten somewhat, but you would have never been able to tell that from his performances in those games - keeping three clean sheets and making a string of saves behind an inexperienced defence, convincing Rasmussen to keep him in the team for the World Cup. Fast, nimble, and with excellent distribution - Kirilaunen's one big weakness - his long throws can often be the first line of attack for his sides, as proved by his assist.

#14 - AMC - Luar Dardan - Age 25 - Image SK Franz Josef City Image - Uncapped [- 59 Caps, 21 Assists, 20 Goals for Astograth prior to defection]
It takes a special player to change the rules on who can play for the Terns. Previous rules had stipulated that only players without caps for other nations, and who qualify for citizenship, can play in the hallowed Terns jersey. See, Torsten Navarro and Yann-Erik Nilsson. The WCC however, appear to have slightly laxer rules on this sort of thing. See, Alexio Del Nieran. Despite this, the FPIFA have resisted any calls so far to match any policy such that would put them more in line with the WCC. This despite the current Polarian stewardship of the WCC. Nonetheless, when it transpired that the now stateless Luar Dardan would no longer have the chance to play at any World Cup or Copa Rushmori since the demise of Astograth, and that he qualified for the Terns and Polarian citizenship through residence, Morten Rasmussen successfully campaigned to have the FPIFA relax their rules slightly. They now ignore previous caps for other nations should mitigating circumstances prevent that nation from competing. As a result, the Terns welcome formerly Astograthian ace Luar Dardan into their squad for the first time. Having torn things up at Directus and SK Franz Josef City, and the Terns experiencing something of a drought of attacking midfielders after Zeljeznicar's injury, this couldn't have come at a better time. With his runs, vision, and a very keen eye for goal, he could be just the perfect player to replace Villeneuve long-term.

#15 - DL - Niels Kruse - Age 25 - Image Revolutionaries (EUR) Image - Uncapped
To be honest, when Morten Salo moved to Eura, the last thing he thought he'd get out of it was a Terns team-mate at club and country, but that's exactly what's happened here. Niels Kruse has been busily beavering away in Eura for the best part of his career, and as the Terns scouts and Rasmussen finally started making the trips to Revolutionaries to see Salo play, Kruse coincided by having the best season of his career so far. Busy, hard-working, and with superb fitness levels, Kruse has made the most of doubts over Vaaraniemi's match readiness to take the spot in the squad for the first time, and by all accounts he is just itching to make his first Terns appearances and assist or score his first goals - something that has been something of a feature of his quick-footed wing-back play for his club.

#16 - DR - Alexis St Olaf - Age 31 - Image Hondo FC (VAL) Image - 42 Caps, 6 Assists, 1 Goal
Rasmussen unearthed something of a gem when he found St Olaf. Well known to Argonauts fans, his efforts had thus far eluded the attentions of the more international eye. Until his domestic manager became his national manager, that is. Fluent at playing on both flanks, it was Rasmussen himself who discovered Alexis St Olaf in the 'out tray' of the Haapa-Mechelin Academy and brought him back into the youth set-up, retraining him from a winger to a wing-back in the process, the same process current first-choice Bjerregaard has gone through just recently. Given the presence of Kruse in the squad it is likely we will only see St Olaf operating on the right this tournament, though in an emergency this versatile player can play pretty much anywhere but up front. His appearances for the Terns caught the eye of foreign clubs, and he now turns out for Vanorian outfit Hondo FC. Vauxhall Jansen impressed the Terns management during his performances at the Copa, but it is thought that having two young full-backs in a World Cup squad struck Rasmussen as foolhardy, and so the age and experience of St Olaf comes back in.

#17 - DMC - Anders Holzhauser - Age 25 - Image Northbrook Diamonds FK Image - 40 Caps, 5 Assists, 3 Goals
Came straight from the DBC to feature at his first Copa Rushmori four Copas ago, and did so again along with Bjerregaard three cycles ago in Charruterra, providing performances enough to convince Rasmussen to take him along in his squads ever since. Holzhauser is a strong and tough-tackling defensive midfielder, and has made quite an impact on Rasmussen. With a commanding presence, he quickly grabs the eye as he marshals the defence behind him, and though he is able to fill in at centre back should he be required to, Holzhauser has the urge and the ability to push forwards in possession of the ball and add a different dimension to the attack in the process. All this international exposure was bound to create a big move for him eventually however, and he now turns out for Divisjon One giants Northbrook Diamonds FK, who splashed the cash necessary to get Issington to part with one of their prized assets. Fans already think him cheap at twice the price.

#18 - ST - Victor Larsen - Age 26 - Image Spartangrad (EUR) Image - 24 Caps, 7 Assists, 10 Goals
Huge, hulking, physically intimidating, and with a foot like a traction engine, Victor Larsen is notable for being - along with Yann-Erik Nilsson - the first black Polarian to ever be called up to the national team. Impressive with the Chicks at u-21s level, his pace and raw power can change the game in an instant, and he has been doing just that with Red Star in Divisjon One, having an outstanding season last time around with Spartangrad in Eura taking interest in him as a result. Described as a human battering ram, he provides something very different from the bench, and it will be interesting to see how Rasmussen uses him with the other strikers in the squad when it comes to deployment on the pitch. Had something of a breakthrough in Kolehmainen's poor form early on in the last cycle.

#19 - MC - Erik Bergen - Age 25 - Image FC Axel Heiburg Image - 12 Caps, 5 Assists, 2 Goals
It's not often that a midfielder is called into a World Cup squad uncapped when midfielders had been specifically looked at for the open spot during the Copa, but that's exactly what happened to Erik Bergen last cycle. FC Axel Heiburg are used to having more players in the Terns roster than they have here - one - but they'd have none if it weren't for Bergen's move back to Axel Heiburg after the implosion down in Astograth. Bergen's move to Astograth University raised few eyebrows at the time, but the performances of the youngster during "that" season have certainly raised eyebrows since, as he helped his previous club to an historic league and cup double. Such a performance could not remain overlooked for long, and the gangly midfielder with an eye for a pass and a bucketload of hard work and determination was brought into the squad as a result. Is he still riding that wave of confidence? Let's find out.

#20 - ST - Vasek Frederiksen - Age 28 - Image Red Star Severny Image - 20 Caps, 1 Assist, 6 Goals
Once one of several uncapped players in a previous Copa Rushmori squad, Vasek Frederiksen did enough on the way to the final of that tournament to convince Rasmussen that he deserved the spot in the World Cup squad, but has since lost out to Wolff in the pecking order since swapping Torshavn for Esca. Frederiksen is taking a leaf out of Wolff's book now though by swapping Esca for Red Star following the implosion of both their foreign leagues, filling the boots of Terns team-mate Larsen in the process. Tall and lanky, he's surprisingly good with his touch for a big man, and his gangly presence often belies his deadliness in the box. Has a focused and naturally solitary demeanour that can come across as anti-social and aggressive, but on the pitch this frequently counts as a good thing, and you can bet he is focused solely on scoring for the Terns after some time away from the squad. Has younger players like Akerhausen and Bickermann breathing down his neck for a spot in the squad, so hopefully we'll see him gain some more time on the pitch.

#21 - MC - Jorgen Kirvesniemi - Age 31 - Image Fontvielle Impact (VLD) Image - 95 Caps, 13 Assists, 10 Goals
Appearing regularly in the top flight for Rapid Jan Mayen and then later in Divisjon Two, his signing by Red Star Severny was seen another step in the young midfielder's development; not to mention being a decision that brought him to the attentions of first van der Riise, then Rasmussen, and then the Valladar giants of Fontvielle Impact. He has it all in his locker, and can twist and turn out of danger or provide a battling block as necessary. He can inspire and rifle in assists, or he can sit back and dictate play. Unwilling to let him become a positional expert, the coaches let him add to his arsenal of overall talents, a decision that is paying off now as he takes his place in the starting line-up as an exceptionally versatile asset. Has been described in the past as the natural successor to Hansen or Bielsen, and his number of caps is testament to that when you consider that even though he's only been in the first XI for four tournaments he is still touching a hundred caps. Incredibly versatile, incredibly reliable, incredibly determined, with an engine that just won't quit - he's the perfect tournament player and a valuable player to have on your bench.

#22 - DC - Torsten Navarro - Age 25 - Image FC1. Surtsey Island Gulls Image - 26 Caps, 4 Goals
After graduating through the Haapa-Mechelin Youth Academy, East Külmsaari national Torsten Navarro instead elected to leave the club and was snapped up by Novaya Sibir Reds. Enjoying the increased game time he got by making such a move, he blossomed into the tough tackling defender we know today, and his stock only increased when the Reds were relegated and he was pursued by Surtsey. An integral part of their Divisjon One and Copa de Campeones winning side, he is now looked on enviously by Axel Heiburg fans, and as he makes his Terns appearances through the Polarian passport of his grandparents, he will have his determined eyes on getting back into the first XI following Salo's return from injury. Capable of scoring freely in the opposition box from set pieces if allowed, which he proved on the way to winning the Copa as Nordenberg's partner at the back.

#23 - DC - Willem Otkupshchikov - Age 26 - Image FC1. Bjarnarey Flotilla Image - 3 Caps
Otkupshchikov represents one of those rare success stories where a player can grow and mature way down the leagues with a lesser team before a bigger team notices him and takes a chance on him, only to see said player blossom on the bigger stage and totally steal the limelight. Otkupshchikov did just that at Bjarnarey after having spent the first four years of his career Divisjon-jumping with Waldenoya Bears, and he now finds himself outshining the likes of Syndicate star Alex Sutler for club, and getting a call up for his country. Tall, solid, and with an incredible work ethic, you won't see Otkupshchikov popping up in the opposition box much, if at all, but you will always be able to rely on him to be in the right place at the right time in his own box. It would take something special to keep Yann-Erik Nilsson out of this squad, but that's exactly what Otkupshchikov has done.

TACTICS: "The Pythagorean" 2-3-3-2
The Polarian game is methodical, abrasive, technical, and physical. They won't give you a second on the ball to think, and they won't hold back in the tackle. In the centre of the park they will play a possession based midfield game of triangles, though a defence splitting pass could come at any moment towards the fast and direct attack. Rasmussen plays a narrow and heavily modified diamond formation dubbed the Pythagorean by the sporting press. It is reliant upon two key triangular sets of players that transcend the normal "rows" of player in conventional formation layouts. Nordenberg, Salo, and Lillehammer will act as the defensive triangle, and Villeneuve, Kolehmainen, and Wolff will counter at the other end as the offensive triangle. Lillehammer's and Villeneuve's roles in this scheme are absolutely crucial, as their job is to support and unlock the other two players in their respective triangles, providing outlets and creativity in abundance. Einarsson and Konigstein are part of a compact and creative midfield that will supply steel or style whenever the situation demands it, as well as partnering up with their respective full backs to form a kind of "bumper" that sweeps the flanks in attack or folds in to protect the penalty area in defence. Fitness of all players will therefore be key to the success of this plan; not just the constant positional changing demanded of Lillehammer and Villeneuve, but the athleticism of Bjerregaard and Küngas-Vaga in particular will also be tested to the limit as their roles require frequent attacking. It's not quite a 4-3-3, it's not quite a 4-1-2-1-2, and it's not quite a W-M... Alright, alright, it's more or less a W-M with a focus on two specific trios of players. It's the Pythagorean.

The Euran Football Association’s Rather Chaply World Cup 69 Qualifying Squad

Manager: Kelly Sporadic (Audioslava), 64 years old

Kelly Sporadic first rose to stardom as a young playmaker for the Silexhera national football side, back in the qualifiers for World Cup 46, and quickly made his name as a star player for XXV de Maio in Cafundeu, where he would spend most of his career. He retired after helping Silexhera qualify for their first and only World Cup finals in cycle 48.

Kelly became manager of the Audioslavia national team for the World Cup 59 cycle, aged just forty-four thanks to the slower Cafunduese time compared to that of Audioslavia, and with a modest history of management and coaching in Cafunduese club football. His first four months brought a level of success that utterly flabbergasted his employers, reaching the final of AOCAF 34 with a bare-bones team of amateurs, including his half-Cafunduese, half-Silexheran son Weverton, who qualified for the Audioslavia national team through means unknown. He followed the AOCAF 34 final with victory in the Baptism of Fire, but could only lead the Bulls to a modest 3-3-6 record in qualifying for WC59, finishing a disappointing 6th from 7 teams, following that with a first-round exit in the Cup of Harmony.

Kelly bounced back for cycle 60, and lead a rejuvinated Audioslavia team to AOCAF 35, where they went one better than their previous foray in the tournament and emerged victorious, beating Andossa se Mitrin Vega 2-0 in the final. World Cup 60 qualifying would prove to be another steep learning curve, as the Bulls finished mid-table in their group, but the side would record their best Cup of Harmony run later on, reaching the semi-finals before falling to Taeshan.

Kelly had lead a fledgling, mostly amateur Audioslavia to two championships, a final and a semi-final in his first two cycles in charge of Audioslavia - a fantastic feat - but things would begin to turn sour for the Silexheran in cycle 61.

The Bulls failed to get out of the group in AOCAF 36, failed to improve on their previous performance in World Cup qualifying, and were all-but ousted from the Cup of Harmony after a heavy defeat to Kinitaria and a subsequent draw at Sargossa. The Audioslavian media, always quick to jump on NT managers, jumped on Kelly, and the Silexheran decided to call it quits before the final game of the tournament, thanking the supporters, players and FFA for ten eventful years as manager.

Kelly became manager of Audioslavia's former BoF rivals Licentiapacisterra for cycle 62, finding immediate success with a championship in the form of the Campionato Esportiva. Kelly then did with the cyan what he couldn't do for the Bulls - take them to the World Cup finals, qualifying via a playoff. The side amassed a paltry point in the finals, but the side would take heart from their position at the top table of world football, and had high hopes to retain their CE title but, in a battle between two former-champions, lost out in the first round to the awesomely named - if modestly talented - THRILLEDGE.

From here, like in Audioslavia, things would turn a little sour. The cyan struggled in their WC63 qualifying group, finally finishing second before entering into, and losing, a playoff with eventual runners-up Starblaydia. The Licentiapacisterran FA decided they'd seen enough of the Audioslavian as NT boss, and announced his contract would not be renewed after the next Campionato Esportiva.

Now 60, Kelly tends to play a solid, defensive style of play focused on technique and maintaining possession, no doubt moulded that way after years of having to get a bunch of amateur Audioslavians to avoid humiliatingly large defeats. His 4-5-1 formation he used at Audioslavia has been retained by the claret and green and used to great effect in the WC championship winning cycle, while Kelly's own interpretation of the system, at Licen, has morphed into a more fluid 4-1-4-1.

He signed on as Euran national team manager with a three year contract to the great surprise of commentators after the Copa Rushmori that preceded the qualifying stages of the 64th World Cup, when Eura were 13th in the world and attempting to regain the sort of form that propelled them to the final of the 60th World Cup. Three years senior of the man he replaces, Ben Randall, Sporadic has to prove now that he can work his magic again with a team that plays a free flowing, attractive style that he would appreciate – but with a higher tempo and a more attacking nature. Perhaps his biggest problem will be tightening up the defence.

After one contract renewal, two World Cup campaigns and a Copa Rushmori tournament, Kelly Sporadic is sitting in a fairly secure position as Eura manager. World Cup 64 qualifying was an underwhelming debut for Sporadic and Kallstrom as they got used to the system, before an embarrassing finals performance saw them out at the group stage after failing to win a single game. But Sporadic rung some changes before the World Cup 65 campaign and this qualifying campaign went better, recovering from a shaky start to give Eura the second best record in qualifying of any team that year.

His side recovered from a disappointing performance against Mytannion in the opening game of the finals to record a legendary victory over Audioslavia, a notable personal victory for Sporadic that possibly saved his job, before another win over the Licentian Isles. Eura went out in the round of sixteen, but only after the Holy Empire parked the bus to earn a 0-0 draw and win on penalties. Poor results followed in Eura’s long awaited return from exile in the Copa Rushmori and in Olympic football, but progress is being made and only a failure to qualify put Sporadic’s position in jeopardy. In his four years as boss, he has built a big rapport with not only the team but the Euran fans and people, who almost treat him like one of their own – a surrogate for Ben Randall. That love was cemented by the greatest achievement of all; a World Cup win. These are truly great times for Euran football and Kelly Sporadic. The mood was tempered slightly by a 4-1 defeat in the final of Copa Rushmori 16, after a hard fought campaign, but a respectable third place finish at the following Confederations Cup against the same opposition got Eura back on track.

(Credit to Audioslava for writing up most of this biography.)

Assistant: Johannes Kallstrom (Polar Islandstates), 51 years old

Signing his contract on the same day as Sporadic, also for three years, Kallstrom is the latest Polarian import to Euran football, reflecting the close admiration by Eurans of their hardy island nature and going the other way an admiration of a culture where football is deeply ingrained as a passion rather than a sport. He will be working in close conjunction with his subordinate and Head Coach, Louis Watson. Kallstrom’s role is important covering for Sporadic on occasion and playing perhaps a more pivotal role than most assistant managers do in relation to their main men. Much like in his time assistant managing the Terns, he has a big say in selection, tactical chemistry, discipline, maintaining extremely high fitness levels and a superb ability to judge the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition.

Head Coach: Louis Watson (Eura), 50 years old

Watson has been on the coaching staff for over a decade, and plays a key role in squad selection and maintaining discipline. He has been approached by top foreign clubs for vacant manager positions several times, yet he continues to act as Sporadic’s enforcer and motivator. Largely credited with Eura's fantastic new generation of youth talent, despite a poor showing at the last Di Bradini Cup.

Generic last minute supergoals from 500 yards/goalkeepers scoring hat-tricks will be given the same distasteful reaction. In fact, I should probably just say ‘fuck you’ in advance. Suck it world!

Jeru FC Roster

"The Cannons"

Formation: 4-4-2
Style Modifier: +2

Coach: André Vaillancourt-Bosquet.

Former NMS manager André Vaillancourt-Bosquet resigned early on in the second half of qualifiers after losing to Farfadillis and leaving the Paladins with no control over their qualifying fate. That said, he did manage the Paladins to a third-place finish in CoH 55, and he did rack up a full 9 points in the group stages of WC64. He will insist that the powers that be fund the side better before he takes the job, though. He got the job after an apprenticeship under Sol Kirkkegaard, and prior to that, he spent 16 years as an AMF on the Paladins and in the upper echelon of the NMSFL (admittedly non-scorinated.)

Assistant coach: Captain Israel Goldstein, serving member of the Jeruselem army

Coaching Staff

Yúan Genshí
Age: 35
Yúan is an ex-footballer for the Xíanshí Ganbatte, a now delegated club in the Kandorese Golden League, with a good goal scoring record as former mid fielder and experience as team captain. He took up the coaching opportunity after Xíanjí Hatema and his team crashed out of the World Cup and the Cup of Harmony, if Yúan can replace the most successful Kandorese coach in history remains to be seen, but confidence is again at an all time high.

Huangzhou Yu
Age: 29
From Xiangzhou Sapphire's field, the assistant coach looks promising according to the critics and was the assistant of Xíangjí Hatema. He started his career as coach with a local team and fought his way up to the major domestic league of Kandorith. He has shown to be calm and understanding. Now he makes a return in the coaching staff of the Dragons, as the assistant coach to Yúan Genshí, who spoke utterly confident about Huangzhou's abilities.

Starting XI

Defence

Goalkeeper

Wú Shinsen
Age: 22
Length: 192CM
Wú is the current goal keeper of Xiangzhou Frontale, with a flawless record in the domestic league. although slightly shorter than his predecessor, his agility and stamina exceeds Huajian by far. He is one of the few new players to be introduced to the perfect squad of the last World Cup, as coach Yúan believes he is the perfect goalie for this World Cup and future ones.

Defence

Xian Ximen
Age: 22
Length: 185CM
Xian is a cold blooded defender of Gamba Hujiajing, a true old school styled defender. Always trying to get his tackles perfectly timed, and never taking his eyes off the ball. His other noteworthy abilities are his free kicks and headers, which he excels at by far.

Jin Zexi
Age: 25
Length: 178CM
Known for his quick tackles and saving headers; this agile defender is a tough one to run away from. He only has one goal: regaining possession and passing the ball around as quick as possible.

Mitsuharu Eri
Age: 23
Length: 176CM
Mitsuharu, a true defender. He is the man for the pass and the crosses, the tactical link between and in-between the midfield. He is a great supportive player and a quick runner, with an eye for quick passes or crosses trough the midfield.

Midfield

Miraki Nakamura
Age: 22
Length: 190CM
Miraki Nakamura, the "star" defender of Xianghzou Sapphires. With his length, sturdiness and great heading abilities he is sure to give strikers who are receiving the ball or are trying to make a run for it a hard time. Even though he is quite sturdy; Miraki does not lack in speed at all, being an agile and fast player.

JieJie
Age: 25
Length: 177CM
Passer, runner and assists; JieJie, another star from Nagato Goya. He has made his debute 3 years ago and has shown many coaches he is the man for the midfield passing and chance creating. With tactical insight and almost unmatchable running speed he is the winger and the attacking midfielder.

Taiji Moto
Age: 26
Length: 181CM
The Captain, El Commandante, and the elder; Taiji Moto the captain of the Kandorese National Team and the Captain of Nagato Goya. Experienced, ferocious and quick. He plays mostly defensive but when he sees a goal scoring opportunity or the chance for an assist he won't hold back. He is one of the links of the chain,to keep that ball passing and keep possession, while steering the team towards a goal.

Ximin Chosi Kansuo Je-Han
Age: 22
Length: 177CM
Ximin, an ambitious young player from Yingshua Sabers, one of the lesser known teams of the Kandorese Imperial League; but equally dangerous as the bigger names, mostly because of this player. He is an excellent runner, passer and crosser; always looking for a hole in the defence to press the ball towards the striker, he does not often score; but when he does, it's a ranged effort with extreme finesse.

Atasuki Eguchi
Age: 24
Length: 177CM
The true winger of the team, always scanning the sideline; waiting for that pass to push it forward and create a goal chance. He is a fast and agile runner with great crossing ability. His most notable love of the game, is giving defenders a hard time by running and crossing when they least expect it.

Strikers

Iichi Fuji
Age: 23
Length: 182CM
The "support" striker. Iichi is the main assist and header in front of goal; his headers are precise, fast and dangerous; just like this man when he has the ball in front of goal. He does not aim for the goal, he is the main passer when the 6 yard box gets hot. A real dribbler and trick passer, leaving the scoring to his fellow strikers or attacking midfielder. According to Yúan he is irreplaceable on the midfield and will play the most important role in the attack too.

Méng Zeijí
Age: 21
Length: 181CM
The current star of Kandorese football. This youngster has made his name as goal cannon, never passing the oppertunity to score and when he does see the chance; the ball flies in like a guided projectile. Also agile and a real dribbler, he loves to run circles around the defence and rocket the ball into a tight corner. Méng is accurate, calm and controlled, which made him the current top scorer of the Kandorese league.

FOOTBALL

Some forty years ago, a couple of Esportivan communist exchange students decide to kick a ball around on a field not too far away from Vadshult. After a lot of history, we’ve now ended the year 2018 and football is tilting the crown as the most popular sport in the archipelago, especially in the western part of the eleven islands. In the fourth season of the unified Top Division, Viztourzys Kolektyvinis has failed to grab the crown for the first time, leaving the honour to Bengtsmark IF. The side, however, remains the only one with international stature after winning a Globe Cup. The national President’s Cup saw already a list of victorious sides, with Pajukas Sport as the latest addition. The official national competitions contain 47 teams and are still up to expansion, but its popularity mainly lies on the many local teams. Especially in the western part, football is the main sport, whilst being opposed to the popularity of rugby and basket in the east.

Before our international wake, Buyanese football was usually noted by powerful midfield play, with a lot of forward focus transcended in one man: a team was often defined by its type of attacking midfielder and the position is probably a bit overrated. Navickas and Cedar, by example, previously grew into the posterboys of the competition that way. These day, the man around which Buyanese football revolves is Sverre Devold, although Piotr Kluszak might hold that position in the domestic Top Division. These stars of the new generations, however, demonstrated that the danger doesn't have to come from one person only and the ability from Viztourzys and more recently Bengtsmark to deal with this new football reality have allowed them to grow to the highest level. The fact that Hope holds on to the same opinion has certainly helped to popularize the idea.

He stamped out the old traditions with a renewed midfield where the wings can produce a lot of danger as well, but with a larger focus on the defending as a whole. It was a typical vision in Buyan to see attacking players stay forward when the opposing team launches an attack, causing a lot of pressure and goals, but the national side doesn’t show so. Hope wants a sturdy defence, unless there are opportunities on the wing, with Naess and Zermin as a double lock on the door.

Buyan has come a long way since their debut interland, a worrying 3-0 loss against Dandillis. Their first CE saw proper performances, but the Hedgehogs only got the taste of winning in their Baptism of Fire. Without dominating, they amassed the victories. After beating Kitsunia-Deesse and Dutciberg, they faced The Sarian in a thriller. After one hundred twenty scoreless minutes, penalties had to decide upon a victor and the steel nerves from the Buyanese came out on top. The tournament marked Zemaitis, Havelund, Tufte and not in the least Sverre Devold as international players and lay the foundation of a respectable World Cup campaign.

Despite organising the next Campionato, it didn’t saw a real breakthrough of Buyan and the Beltane Cup ended in deception when Yttribia got the best of us, leaving us with bronze. But the World Cup qualifiers were exceptional, playing eighteen games back-to-back without a single loss. Taking the scalps of United Gordonopia, Thatius and the Equestrian States, Buyan surprisingly qualified for the World Cup 68 proper. After losses against Legalese and Osarius, Buyan grabbed three sweet points after a much contested duel against Rüntenbach, seeing Manuel Schmidt as a hero.

Their third campaign of international football has resolved in mixed results. Due to internal issues, a homegrown side had to contest the CE and the Beltane Cup. The CE ended faster than hoped, as Apox cut short the road to the quarterfinals, but the Beltane resulted in the second trophy in the cabinet, as we once again showed more cool on penalties against Greater Watford. The expectations are high: a second World Cup qualification is a must.

SQUAD

There still remains doubt whether this should be considered an overview of the available Buyanese football players or the national football squad. In consequence of the Di Bradini Cup, in which Sirius Hope lead the squad much against his own surprise, the national manager decided to add quite a few of these young players to the group, allowing them to taste training exercises at the highest level and, when possible, even stage one or two of them when playing minor opponents.

More important is the return of the foreigners, those great stars who formed the spine of the Buyanese side that participated to the World Cup 68 but who were refused entry for the two subsequent tournaments. Although the Beltane Cup II was ended victorious, it remained a difficult task to reach the same quality. With Tufte, Devold, Zermin, Havelund and other Castells back on the team, the best Buyanese side is ready for action.

Of course, this means that the inflation of the squad is complete. In order to bring this down to a measly 48 players, Hope left six guys at home in comparison to the Beltane. Bart Valminen, the solid yet unremarkable defender of Pollmarnang stays at home, although he’ll always pride himself on his few interlands. Andreas Ohlin will probably always remain stuck at one cap, youngsters as Suhr and Wladecki have surpassed the Bengtsmark man. It’s still more than Erwin Kroempf, who never took the field. Two Viztourzys Kolektyvinis players are missing as well, namely Vincas Daukas and Karsta Lupeikis. Vincas Daukas, twice national topscorer, never convinced for Buyan and lost the battle in the Red Machine against youngsters Ptak and Hostmann. Lupeikis? Hm... Good question. Last but not least, fans will note the lack of Alowysz Krupa, who ended his active career to become assistant coach.

STAFF

Assistant: Alowysz Krupa, Image

Debuting can be a remarkable word if we apply it to a man who has almost two decades of football experience behind him. Alowysz Krupa wore the shirt of the Blue Hedgehogs on 35 occasions and is a cult hero for his former domestic side Garbarnia Hoyersko, whose black and brown colours he defended for nine years.

Being one of the most modest men ever to represent our nation, he will still remain a national icon for being the one to score the all-important penalty during the Baptism of Fire victory. Up to this day, it remains the only penalty ever shot by this man who is once to often called a grey mouse.

Manager: Sirius Hope, Image

After a catastrophic injury in the Paradisian Cup, the ex-international defender took to coaching and acted as Assistant Manager to the Paradystopi squad under Marina Hayduff. In the WC66 cycle, he took over the lead position of the staff and lead his team in an exciting run, which brought them within inches of the World Cup.

In search of more credibility, he took up the challenge to bring modern football capacity to Buyan, a difficult task, to say the least. The success in the BoF enlarged his credit amongst the criticasters and he continued this streak in the WC. His choice to ‘first build defence and then attack’ hasn’t gotten him that many fans, but results show he chose the right way. After a short stint as assistant – despite just having qualified Buyan for the World Cup – for political reasons, he’s back as our national beacon.

KITS

Image

After using regular blues for the Campionato Esportiva VIII, Buyan addressed Vulpine Sportif who provided them with beautiful kits, both in a blue edition for the home side and red ones for the away game.

But time flies and the BFB rightfully decided that it was time for an update. The result is the above marvellous shirts, kindfully provided by AER Sportswear. We’ll wear these excellent shirts with pride, added with red shorts and socks. The goalie will take the field in an all blue outfit.

The Nine @ Dyatinsk (57,000 seats)

It's big, it's build on an unpractical location and if we believe the contractor, it's build on a swamp. But it's also state of the art and featured some games in the Campionato Esportiva IX, hence the name.

The million dollar question for Sirius Hope in order to look for the base squad was what he would do with the new young stars who had rose during the Beltane Cup. In absence of the players performing abroad, guys like Dalmshelf, Mamontovas and Kluszak took the stage and did splendid. But it appears that Hope will rely on the fellows that brought Buyan to the World Cup last time around.

Only alteration might be Ulle Seber who picks up the spot of Manuel Schmidt under the crossbar. Both are very close in terms of skill, so details might determine who will end up as the starting goalie. Their replacements are two youngsters with much too learn.

In defense, the unbreakable duo Tufte-Bartkus returns. Even a talented Mamontovas can’t prevent these two forming the cornerstone of our backline. On their left side, Zemaitis appears to be uncontested after the withdrawal of Krupa, although the talented Dziuba should keep him sharp. On the other wing, Gabs Refshauge seems to struggle more and more to keep up. He’s a reliable fellow, but not that swift anymore. Wonder whether it will be the fallen hero Smetona, youngster Thorup or talent Justs who fills said hole.

On the defensive midfield, no changes for the forseeable future. Harald Naess might have turned into our oldest player, he’s still young at heart and extremely important for the composure. Quinten Zermin is a man with four longs and the right battle spirit. Although Piotr Kluszak really grew into a key player, he can not challenge the inevitable Sverre Devold for the position in front of those two. Devold is still the key player who determines the result. On the horizon, 20-year old Rootare awaits a chance.

A bit more to the right, Eero Halmiini returns on what might be the most contested spot in the team. Castell can claim more stamina, Ullsmang better elegance, Knutsen sharper assists and Kauppi more working power, so he’ll have to be on his best. The left side is even more of a question mark. Wallenberg can be very classy and has a special touch, but lacks consistency. Whether it will be the hard-working Hueppe or the gifted Lammerschon who picks up his position in the future remains a question. Last but not least, there is the position as sole striker, currently still owned by Elmo Havelund. Now he finally pushed Mattisson out of the picture, new prospects are coming for him such as Dalmshelf, Paulas and Rettinger.

There are a few tactical options Hope uses to take, but his most prefered one is altering the formation to a 4-1-3-2, leaving out Naess or Zermin, ensuring that the wing-attackers are the more fighting types (read: no Halmiini or Wallenberg but rather Hueppe and Castell) and add a second attacker. Most reliable in that case are Sil Moen, always a supersub, Crassus Hopp or –why not- young talents Hostmann and Niceforski.

Ha Duvénasíma Sayónæ ve Everayím
National Football Team

Introduction

Ha Duvénasíma, while possessing a reputable domestic football league, has yet to establish itself as a formidable force on any international stage, including the World Cup. The debut of the national men's team concluded on a dismal note when they failed to even qualify for the tournament proper, adding to the humiliation of finishing near the bottom of their group at the Baptism of Fire. Despite this, Ha Izarayím have experienced a number of perplexing successes against highly ranked teams, forcing draws and even emerging victorious on occasion. As such, they are rugged underdogs whose ambitions extend far beyond their statistical ratings.

The team was well known for its aggressive and dynamic style of attack during World Cup 67, making frequent use of explosive counterattacks, more often than not spearheaded by the genius of Taamrat Ben-Ami, who has scored sixteen goals after a mere twenty five appearances. Unfortunately, Beleván tactical outlook tended to neglect the back four in favor of the team's star strikers, giving the squad a certain frailty. This ultimately consigned Ha Izarayím to defeat. While the sparks were kindled, no conflagration ever took on the field.

Beleván's men have surprised during their pre-qualifying friendlies, vanquishing heavy favorites Patistan in two of six unofficial match-ups, forcing a draw against Star United States, and even punishing Atanatos in their own stadium for a final tally of three goals to nil. This goes without mentioning the sound routes affected against neophytes still seeing stars from the Baptism of Fire, such as Novach. In all, Ha Izarayím have garnered four wins, five draws, and five losses in the run-up the World Cup's qualifying rounds. These results, while unimpressive by themselves, become more extraordinary when one considers that four of the six teams that faced off against Evraim in the friendlies held a higher official ranking.

Fans are already speaking excitedly of a miracle, and Beleván, who was nearly sacked following the disastrous results of World Cup 67, has been hailed as a hero. It remains to be seen whether his will become a household name abroad, as it has domestically. Much of this success springs from the fact that the team has altered its tactical paradigm, shifting from the dynamism of the 1-3-5-1 formation to the concrete functionality of the 4-4-2 formation, and bringing novel defensive talents into the fold. In spite of these alterations, Ha Izarayím remain a strong attacking side, maintaining a link to the more glorious aspects of their past.

Taamrat Ben-Ami and Indamar Ulan, in particular, provide fuel for the nightmares of goalkeepers. Both strikers, who have gained domestic success at their respective clubs, with Ben-Ami lifting the silver boot as the number one scorer in the league, possess exceptional speed, unparalleled footing, and a profound ability to capitalize on breakaways or crosses. Additionally, Ben-Ami is as much a danger outside the box as inside it. Evraim's substitutes are no less extraordinary. Melkamzer Kabédé, seen by many as the best striker in the collegiate league, is now touted as Ben-Ami's successor, while Vidal de Frigessy's time with Seraf Fiorenze does nothing but instill confidence.

In the midfield, captain Nachshon Panzieri has reappears as the pivotal play-maker. He is neither as quick as Ulan, nor does he have as strong a foot as Ben-Ami, but he is perhaps the most thoughtful man on the field at any given moment, not to mention his brilliantly technical style of play. Yaakov Zamorski is another person who warrants attention. He has the most assists of any footballer in Evraim, and has admirably preserved this trend in both World Cup 67 and World Cup 69, thus far. Zamorski even managed to net a few goals himself, establishing him as a dual threat in the eyes of prospective opponents. A few competent defensive players, together with several super-subs like Erez da Silva and Avdil Šarho, round out a midfield which, while not as impressive as the front two, is at least more than competent.

Lastly, most improvements can be seen in the selection of the back four and the keeper. Beleván has abstained from starting Sermend Darsha, who performed abysmally during World Cup 67, favoring instead Leikos Faídhenór, who yielded more inspiring results, and the young prodigy Tamir Bashzayi, who proved himself during this World Cup's friendlies, not admitting a single goal. Defensively, Ha Izarayím will field talented newcomers like Fenríc Valmarin, Ardelan Krishtzophar, and Yair Mamo alongside rugged veterans Eliron Szirmay and Abraham Benacerraf in the hope of rectifying past mistakes.

In summary, Evraim's squad combines battle-tested footballers from World Cup 67 with promising talents from the domestic league. Beleván's preference for theatrical attacking football survives in some ways, though it has been moderated in the interests of bolstering the flailing back four, who can now rely on more assistance from the midfield. All in all, Ha Izarayím should provide immense entertainment value for fans of football everywhere, especially in their home country. Despite this, they remain as ever a group of underdogs, who celebrate every triumph in a riotous fashion. Will they carry a teary eyed Beleván onto the field to receive the trophy, the holy grail of association football? Will their strong willpower and tightened formation lead them to ever-lasting glory?

New Wolfopolis Wolfpack - National Football Team
Captain: Nicholas Pollard
Style Mod: -1

(4-4-2)
Image
NIcholson allowed 27 goals in 14 games during World Cup 68 Qualifiers, just less than 2 per game on average. With the Wolfpack being barely more defensive than offense, he, and the rest of the defense are going to have to step up their game if they want to qualify.
Image
Carlisle is the least notable of the defenders, but still able to come through and make a tackle when needed. Carlisle has been training and has improved since the last World Cup, and that resulted in him keeping his starting spot.
Image
Oconnell is the most fundamentally sound defender on the squad. He was key in stopping many goals last Cup, and definitely will be instrumental in the gameplan for the Wolfpack this time around.
Image
Lim is a good defensive player, of course, but he has a bit of a temper. He is very good at making unnecessary physical plays, often resulting in penalties. He picked up two yellow cards in the last World Cup Qualifying stage, and he'll have to be much more careful this time around. Nevertheless, his feistiness gives him a certain intensity on the playing field, and ultimately, makes him a better player.
Image
Clement, around the world, would be classified as an average defender, but the Wolfpack don't have much to work with, so he is a starter. He's nothing terribly special, but he'll make plays when necessary.
Image
Pollard, the captain of the squad, is gifted. His talents are unlike any others on the squad. His brain was made for football. His instincts are unparalleled. He plays for Jaunepont Hérault in the Northern Sunrise Islands, the first player on the Wolfopian squad to travel abroad for club play. Bottom line, he is a skilled footballer, and his skills will be crucial for the Wolfopian side.
Image
Bob Good is one of the fastest players on the team. He almost always covers more ground than anyone else. His kicking could use some work, but his speed is always a presence, and is key to him making so many plays.
Image
Walker is notable for his skills at intercepting passes. His best skill is reading the player's eyes to know where he'll pass the ball. Walker will need to intercept quite a few passes and be at the top of his game to help the Wolfpack advance.
Image
Cormier was an attacker in the last Cup Qualifiers, but now will be playing a more defensive midfield. He was quite uncomfortable in an offensive role, and is more used to his current position. Hopefully he can settle in and help the Wolfpack.
Image
Pendleton will be key this World Cup Qualifying. He needs to be able to help out and be helped out up front. He and Spears need to be able to play off each other, mix it up, confuse the defense, and score the max amount of goals.
Image
Spears is the best short range shooter on the team. He was responsible for 6 of the Wolfpack's 20 goals last Cup Qualifiers. He plays on an Yttribian club team, FC Olivera. His striking skills will be crucial for the Wolfpack, but he may need to step up his goal scoring potential.

for World Cup 69
Image

Starters in bold:

Goal:
1. Haki Asgard - GK (38) - A solid goalkeeper, experienced and a natural leader. Co-captain behind Sobek Dehenat.
12. Eren Dauragur - GK (31) - On the squad after Ko-oren B's good run in the Market Cup. He's not very far behind Enshadilsa.
23. Storm Enshadilsa - GK (29) - Biggest talent among Ko-orenite goalkeepers. Has had a great season in the V-league.

Defensive:
2. Svarlamn Norn - LWB (30) - Energetic leftback, has good passing and is always looking for an offensive break.
3. Sobek Dehenat - CB (38) - Captain and biggest personality on the team. Calm and collected, experienced leader of the defense.
4. Lodur Nidog - RWB (32) - Slow player, but excellent in keeping strikers away from the ball.
13. Katanmak Juliasterinthen - CB (25) - Biggest defending talent. Was given the starting position to see how it works out, and has taken the challenge well in AOCAF.
14. Fuujin Iwaki - CB (30) - Reliable CB, though he hardly does anything outside of defense. Poor passing.
20. Futushi Musashi - RB (33) - Can play on either wing, slightly unreliable defender who's in the best of his years.

Midfielders:
7. Fin Fenner - RCM (34) - Central passing man on the team. Any attack is likely to start with one of his passes.
8. Susano Sanuki - LCM (32) - The most defensive of the five midfielders, sometimes acts as second central back next to the central defender.
6. Nalaikh Bagaurunir - DM (25) - Was on the U-21 squad in the Di Bradini Cup. Despite the poor results there, he was called for the team.
16. Roluswishandin Erlenajaur - DM (26) - Inexperienced and it shows, needs to play a lot more important matches before he can play in the NT.
15. Bjarswind Napertnau - CM (27) - The next Fin Fenner. Excellent passing, can even take free kicks well.
10. Palnatoki Idrasil - RWM (32) - Quick winger, unpredictable and good at crosses as well as dribbling.
5. Thor Alfar - LWM (28) - Can give good crosses, but is too slow to get in that position often. He is very strong though, and can hold the ball well.
17. Pta Talmis - AM (29) - Passing man behind the strikers. Knows exactly when to give a through pass, pass to the wings, or pass back.
18. Esolywend Eregrent - AM (25) - Attacking midfielder who is also just as good on either wing. Can even play central midfielder.
21. Holbuligen Bohanan - AM (29) - Best man of the Market Cup squads, leading them to 3 consecutive 2nd places. Can play anywhere on midfield.

Attackers:
19. Izasul Terathu - RS (30) - His speed, enthusiasm and acceleration is unrivaled in this team. His first World Cup as starting striker, he replaces the old Shiribeshi.
9. Naemasu Tokachi - ST (32) - Second striker behind Terathu. Most assists are by him, but he can score too.
11. Koyane Shiribeshi - ST (35) - Has been the first striker for years. Still has '11', as no one dares to take it from him. Lost his fine touch, but is still a very good attacker.
22. Uilta Bonangorthen - LS (28) - Called because Ko-oren is short on good strikers. Was in the Ko-oren B team, and was quite good there.

Ko-oren is back with another aging team: it can't be long until something has to go: the coach, or the players. Another year without real talented u-19 players, everyone is still hoping for the breakthroughs of the DBC a few years ago.

Schottic Team

------------------------------

Manager: Barry Gorman 44
Assistant: Jackie Lowell 51
First Team Coach: David Chettwell 62
Gk Coach: Norman Davis 39

------------------------------

Team info

Since Gorman took over the managerial reins from departing boss Pascal Voitle, there has been much speculation over the tactics the team are likely to play. If the recent friendly with Kloith is anything to go by, the team will keep the same attacking ethos, Gorman's club Port Sebastian had.

The starting line-up includes a back four, unchanged from the one that managed three clean sheets in six games in the Cornellian Cup. In the midfield Gary Corsie and Colin Donaldson keep their places as anchormen, however Eion Killanen drops to the bench to make way for Joey Bia.

The Side will probably line up, with something close to a 4-4-2, Gaston Avelione sitting just behind loan striker Bruno Schwartz. Jon Fontan and newbie Bia will patrol the left and right flanks respectively.

---------------------------

1. GK D'Araby, 31, Handon United
North Islander Lucas D'Araby has 75 Caps for his country. At 190 cm he is an imposing presence in the goalmouth, and is famous for his shot stopping ability. He has been a stalwart for his club, Handon United, keeping the No. 1 shirt for eleven consecutive seasons. With United he has won six league titles and four Schottic Cups.

2. RB Gordon, 30, Handon United
The Versitile Defender Jack Gordon has 66 caps and 3 goals for Schottia. He has a talent for getting down the right flank overlapping the midfield. Another Handon United player, his exploits for club and country have drawn plaudits in the international media.

3. LB O'Brian, 23, King's Park
Darren O'Brian, despite being preferred in the left of midfield for his club King's Park, has made the left back position his own. His attacking style of play provides a balance to the side and complements that of Gondon's. O'Brian is 23 and already has 28 caps. He has played for King's Park all his career making his debut at 16.

4. CB McCann, 30, Handon United
John McCann has time after time proven himself to be a stalwart defender. This towering center half is tough tackling, assured in the air, and has a habit of popping up at the right time to head in from set-plays. Vice-captin for Handon United and Schottia, he has 77 caps and 3 goals.

5. CB Okywä, 27, Soessch
Chris Okywä has the pace and athleticism to cope with the fastest centre forwards. He is well known for his eccentric style of play, that on occasion, can cause problems. That said he is a firm fan's favourite and an important member of the team. The Soessch defender has 53 caps and 1 goal.

8. CM Donaldson, 32, Handon United (c)
Perhaps Handon Utd's best player of all time, Colin Donaldson, despite being 32 has plenty still left in him. The central midfielder can turn defense into attack in the blink of an eye, and has caught the attention of many pundits over the years for his fast feet and accurate passing. Captain for club and country, he has 100 caps and 19 goals, making him Schottia's most capped player ever.

6. CM Corsie, 22, Port Sebastian
Gary Corsie has been one of the main reasons for Port Sebastian's domestic success this season. He is another central midfielder, fast, assured on the ball, and quick to support the attack. There has been a great deal of transfer speculation surrounding the youngster, with Puerto Rojo Hammerheads and FC Bolo both reportedly interested. However it is believed that Port Sebastian's 20 million price tag could be a major stumbling block, for any potential bidders.A fantastic young talent, he has 20 caps and 3 goal.

7. AMR Jonathan Bia, 17, Port Sebastian
The Dahamy born midfielder, only recieved international clearence to play for Schottia a few weeks ago. The Port Sebastian teenager played and scored in the recent Kloith friendly and is reated very highly by manager Barry Gorman. Bia has bucket-loads of stamina and has shown skills, which have seen him compared to the likes of Avelione.

11. AML Fotan, 22, New Belfast Warriors
Jon Fotan, the set piece expert, takes the corners and free-kicks. He is a firm favourate already with New Belfast Warriors and is establishing himself at international level already. Fontan can play wide left or through the middle, just behind the striker. 29 caps 8 goals.

10. SS Avelione, 28, Handon United
Only recently returned from a season and a half playing in Thalsyer, the former La Gorla and Wolverines winger is a force to be reckoned with. Looking to get forward where ever possible, Gaston Avelione, can operate on either wing or as a second striker. Recently signed for Handon United in a 7.5 million deal he has 68 caps and 31 goals.

9. FC Schwartz, 26, Soessch
Bruno Schwartz is an old fashioned no. 9, center forward, and target man. He is capable of holding the ball up, and is a good outlet for the other forwards. The captain of Soessch has 46 caps and 11 goals.

Substitutes

13. GK Gonzaö, 23, Port Sebastian
The Port Sebastian keeper Chris Gonzaö has found himself forever in the shadows of first choice D'Arby. Despite this he has an excellent record at club level, and his only international cap saw him keep a clean sheet.

14. DF Daller, 24, Marionville
David Daller is a versatile center defender capable of filling in at left-back. The Marionville man is good on the ball, and is an assured passer. He has 8 caps for his country.

15. DF McDonald, 27, Soessch
Nathan McDonald is relatively new to the international scene, only recently called up to the squad for the Runner Cup. He has impressed this season with his performances for his club Soessch.

16. RLMFChris Jack, 22, Hollin
The Hollin wide-man Jack is equally apt playing in defence or attack his one and only cap came in a pre tournament friendly against Kloith, where her made a second half appearence.

17. MF Ümann, 18, Soessch
The Soessch youngster burst on to the scene in the recent Runner Cup campaign in Ceni scoring on his debut and making four appearances for his side. Till Ümann is an imaginative central midfielder who is able to put his foot on the ball and pass with composure. Ümann has 9 caps and 2 goal.

18. MF Baxter, 30, Port Sebastian
Jack Baxter is a stalwart for club and country, and is always in and about the starting line-up with 31 caps and 3 goals The holding midfielder is captain of the title winning Port Sebastian side.

19. ACM Killanen, 20, Lammerton
Eoin Killanen has burst onto the seen this season, with his exciting style play. The Lammerton woderkid, has already attracted the attention of some of the bigger clubs. He has scored 5 goals and been capped 20 times.

20. FC Coine, 25, Port Sebastian
Paul Coine, despite being the main man for his club Port Sebastian, has never been particularly fancied by National manager Voitle; who normally starts him on the bench. Coine is a quick and dynamic player, lethal in the six yard box. He has 17 caps and 5 goals.

21. Mark Allen, 23, FC Hill Valley
The SPL's top goal scorer last season, Allen would be many peoples choice to start up front. He has a deadly combination on pace and power, which helped him win a move from Port Sebastian to FC Hill Valley this summer. He will be hoping that with former manager Gorman now at the helm he may add to the 2 caps he already has.
