OOC: This is for MD4. From now, my RP posts will be divided into two parts. First part will be for the AQ69 and its rescue efforts, as well as brief but all-covered and all-out investigation over what happened, while the latter will be about the resulting Quebecois participation in the Felixian Civil War. Once again, this has been planned out for months before what happened last Thursday. Thank you.

Aeroquebec Flight 69, 408km from El Roblar

Without the use of flaps and slats, they were unable to slow down for landing, and faced with no option, but to attempt landing at a very high airspeed. This was an extremely dangerous approach, considering the low chances of success when doing so.
Aerolineas Sangti Flight 811 was a very good example of this, due to the similar circumstances in which was involved. The Boeing 747-200, which was carrying 322 passengers and 20 flight crew members on the way to Montreal, experienced a sudden loss of hydraulics as well. Having to land at the Halifax Int'l Airport(HFX), 1,250km away from the destination, the aircraft burst into flames and broke into pieces, just as it landed. 65 passengers and 6 crew members were killed in the resulting crash and smoke inhalation, the low number of fatalities being due to the crash landing being done, halfway into the aircraft. Now, without any place nearby to get the rescuers from, it didn't look that good for the chance of survival for all those on board.

Still, the pilots did the best, as the plane managed to land by the mountain side. During the final descent the aircraft hit several trees, losing a most of the left wing, as well as engine #1. Then, with the thump, it landed at an extremely high rate of descent, thanks to the inability to flare and use landing gear while landing. The tail section broke off from the force of the impact, and the rest of the aircraft bounced several times, shedding the landing gear and engines, before breaking the fuselage into several main pieces. The aircraft, now broke off into several main pieces, as well as cargo hold already well on fire, burst into flames. None of the engines were still functioning, fortunately.

Then, the pieces slid down sideways, tumbling several times, before finally stopping their movement. Aeroquebec Flight 69 has officially crashed. The planes was now in hot, spreading flames, all over the site.

.....

Around same time, El Roblar ATC

At the same time, the air traffic controllers at El Roblar airport were looking at the radar, as the plane's altitude went down. Then, along with the sound of explosion and metals clashing, a point disappeared from radar, with the information regarding its altitude. Aeroquebec Flight 69, right into the worst those Air Traffic Controllers have imagined, crashed into the Monte Marla.
“Ay no, por la gran mierda.” Rasmus Hartikainen, the chief Air Traffic Controller of the ATC, swore in Spanish, as he looked into the mountains to the direction the Airbus A340-600 crashed.
It’s certainly going to be a long day, he thought to himself, feeling as sad as he could be while hearing the sirens from the Emergency Station located right next to the ATC tower. He very well knew that with one of his controllers being informed of the last spot the plane was seen on radar, they just had to get themselves, as soon as possible. It's the race, with the lives of over 300 passenger on board, against time.

.....

San Salvador International Airport

Since the plane was well within Guayabalnese territory, as well as notifying the ATC of what exactly happened on the aircraft and not to mention the notification from the fellow flight of Spiritair 27, the news quickly got spread to major media outlets of the San Jose Guayabal. In turn, the media outlets all over the Multiverse, as well as the Governments involved in this tragedy(Quebecois, Guayabalnese and Royal Barangayan Governments) were informed instantly, shortly after.

As soon as the both Quebecois, Barangayan and Guayabalnese Governments was informed of the bombing, the airport's director was contacted by the government to cancel all flights that arrive in the San Salvador Airport. For all arriving flights, they are told to land them at nearby airports as soon as possible, which includes military bases in the area.
It was an extremely busy day, especially because it’s the holiday season for large part of Esportiva, as well as large number of overseas workers coming home for the summer. 1,200 flights already took off, with more to do so in next 8 hours of so. This, soon, had to be halted, in order to identify if there’s any additional bomb that might be implanted on another plane either departing from or coming to San Salvador, which could result in a huge catastrophe.

At Gate 19 of Terminal 1, which was solely flown by Aeroquebec, Aerolineas Sangti and its good friend Communist Airlines of SJG, 202 passengers were waiting to board the Aeroquebec flight heading towards Lupinia when they saw the screens on TVs change:

GATE 9 15:30 Aeroquebec AQ835 Lupinia CANCELLED
GATE 11 15:35 Communist Airlines SJ002 Montreal CANCELLED
GATE 5 15:35 Aeroquebec AQ53 Sabrefell CANCELLED
GATE 13 15:40 Aeroquebec AQ433 Titania CANCELLED
GATE 19 15:45 Aerolineas Sangti AS315 Sangti CANCELLED
GATE 26 15:45 Aeroquebec AQ61 Munchewald CANCELLED

2 days later, Nyhavn International Airport

It was an extremely busy day for Nyhavn Kastrup International Airport, Norrehavn. With thousands of flights departing in and out of the nation, especially with Norrehavnese Airlines and Aeroquebec’s widebodies used for transcontinental operations, the airport was as heavily occupied as ever. Nyhavn Airport, whose maximum capacity of 48 million people and other creatures per year have already reached, was on its first phase of expansion, which involved building a new runway, as well as a brand new terminal 3, to accommodate the increasing number of flights flown by low cost carriers in Southern Rushmore. While this certainly, on the long run, would be essential for its success down the road, it also resulted in the closure of the 3,500 meter runway 26 (Nyhavn has 3 runways). Extremely small length and inability to expand the runway 16, which was being used for domestic and short-haul operations, have also forced the 3,750 meter runway 41 to be extremely congested.

As the result of this and the rainstorm affecting the city for last 3 days, large number of services were affected when it comes to their departure and arrival time. This unfortunately have caused many passengers to miss their connecting flight, especially that of Norrehavnese Airlines and Aeroquebec(both have their co-hubs in the airport). Norrehavnese Airlines flight 932 was of different case however, as the scheduled flight to Higuera, Felix, got delayed even further. 208 passengers, large number of them connecting passengers from elsewhere in Rushmore, were already waiting for 2 extra hours in front of their gate. Many thought that this was because of potential discovery of the bomb, something that has gotten many passengers to be extremely sensitive about, following the tragedy of Aeroquebec Flight 69 two days earlier. It was a ridiculous but realistic guess, indeed.

Finally, at 21:34 NST(Norrehavnese Standard Time), the aircraft was cleared for passengers to enter. The Airbus A330-300, which was configured on the 264-seat, three-class format (34 seats for business, 35 for premium economy and 195 for economy class), was finally allowed to leave the ground.

......

75 minutes later, 175km from Nyhavn

There was no one other than Admiral Pavel Sidlik who was more excited about the news. Sidlik, who’s officially assigned by the Quebecois Commonwealth and the head of organization His Imperial Majesty the Jacques IX of Quebec, was on his way to officially declare the Phase 1 of the Mission Valkyrie of the Commonwealth Forces. This, following the Aeroquebec 69 bombing that marked the official first shot of the war, was expected to be an important part and he wanted to start the training process of the Kaji and Free Felixian Forces once he reached the Felixian Soil. This, however, have led him to feel extremely frustrated and stressed out over the 3-hour delay.

Now, 35 minutes past takeoff and in assigned seat of 2C, a full-fit business class with amenities evoking the creativity of his countrymen, he laid himself on a comfortable, 145 degrees recline. He then opened his bag, picked up the letter and closed the former. Knowing that the business class was mostly occupied by other major military figures of the forces, including a Tufanese prince and 3 members of the Norrish nobility, he slowly opened and read the letter:

To: Admiral Pavel Sidlik, Commander, United Dominion Forces of Quebecois Commonwealth, Norrehavnese Army
From: General Gilbert Förstner, Commander, Free Felixian Army
Degree of Importance: Confidential

Dear Pavel,

Hello, Pavel. As you have already heard, we’re retreating from Indos and the areas several hundred kilometres west of it. Kaji Resistance and our forces are taking heavy casualties as we are trying to retreat all the way to Higuera, where your forces are already settled in, with maximum degree of safety and protection guaranteed to our Kaji refugees and fellow Felixians.

With this, we need you to come here and train the Kaji and Free Felixian Forces with expert military experience, while providing refuge for them. I know that each one of yours soldiers have way more experience and skills to kill those Nationalists than the most experienced of ours do. It’ll help, and once the Winter’s over we’ll fight them back and win.

Lastly, we need to talk about counterattack strategies, in order to exhaust them out while in Winter, before driving them back to oblivion. In order to do so the delicacy of the strategic positions and other situations associated with the numbers, terrain, and of course the weather, is required. It is the best time to talk over this, now that we have enough information about their forces and enough support for the Free Felixians and Kajis.

Please come as soon as possible, for it's the best to start early and finish early.

Sincerely,
General Gilbert Förstner

SEM 1 - 1 KOR

A better than expected result for Semarland came in the 1 all draw against the strong side of Ko-oren. Ko-oren, with players such as Izasul Terathu & Palnatoki Idrasil, Ko-ren were no easy side to play. Their first chance came on 3 minutes after a slip up from Marko Halck in midfield, which gifted Idrasil a beautiful run, and a beautiful pass to Naemasu Tokachi, who shot straight at Jorgen Karlstad. Semarland had good efforts from Lygaard and Olsen in the space of 4 minutes, but neither teams could not score. Eventually, Semarland grabbed a goal on 42 minutes after a superb solo run from Demba Cisse who slotted it through to Marc Lygaard to chip over Storm Enshadilsa's head.

In the second half, both teams had an urge to attack, especially Ko-oren, who had seven chances in 25 minutes. Their equaliser finally came on 71 minutes, a wonderful goal from Palnatoli Idrasil, blasting it from 35 yards which no keeper could save. Semarland brought on the ever-impressive Steve Matsen on for Marko Halck and a debut for Ake Orjan Niemquist on for Demba Cisse, and finally on 85 minutes, Janko Datheim for a relatively quiet Ture Skøjerhavn. Eventually, neither teams could score and both were left with 1 point each. A good game overall. Semarland 1, Ko-oren 1.

Gregoryisgodistan Special Administrative Zone Shocks Vilita

Gregoryisgodistan Special Administrative Zone pulled off what may be the biggest upset of World Cup Qualifiers, shocking the second-best team in the multiverse, the heathens from Vilita, in front of a sold-out crowd of 1,500 at GSAZ Stadium. The vast majority of the crowd was from the Special Administrative Zone, though there were about one hundred fans from Vilita in attendance sitting in the visitors section. They watched in stunned silence as their team failed to even score a goal against the hosts. For the first 89 minutes, GSAZ failed to produce one either. But then the normally reliable Amarini Baracelv made a bad clearance and it was intercepted by Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory We Killed King Paulus in the offensive third. He passed it into the box and found Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Maria Polus Is a Dimwit, who shot it on goal. Zelkki Milake made a diving deflection, but the ball bounced right to Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Death to San Jose Guayabal, who put it in the back of the net. A few minutes later, the official blew his whistle and GSAZ was victorious. The fans were in shock, both the 1,400 or so home fans at GSAZ Stadium and the 100 or so fans who made the trek from Vilita expecting to see an easy win.

Thus, it was celebration for government VIPs in the GSAZ, even more so than usual. Many of them instructed their slaves to cook an extra special dinner celebration. The slaves are the only commoners allowed in the Special Administrative Zone, but none are allowed in GSAZ Stadium except for a few slaves who work as ushers, ticket takers, or concession stand workers. Given the small size of the stadium, there are only ten slaves employed at the venue. They are also employed by the GSAZ Soccer Federation and GSAZ FC to do other menial tasks when they are not working at the stadium, such as cooking team meals and cleaning team uniforms. GSAZ Stadium is owned by the GSAZSF, which leases the stadium to GSAZ FC for home games free of charge. There is also a "slave exchange" program between the Federation and the Club, allowing slaves to work for both organizations, due to the seasonal nature of the work. Gregoryisgodistan Special Administrative Zone now has 4 points through 3 matches. This is clearly the biggest win in the history of the young team.

In the Republic of Vietnam, after Jeruselem beat the local team 4-0 ...

Amy: Coach, want to go the local food markets?
Jayden: I'll pass on that, I'm not keen on the some of stuff out there
Amy: You don't have to buy it, just look
Jayden: I'm not very adventurious anyway
Amy: All you have to do is look, no one's forcing you to buy stuff
Jayden: I've heard about the weird stuff in the markets there

Amy: It's not weird to the locals
Jayden: Yes, well I'm not a local
Amy: Oh well, hey Delia!
Delia: Hey, what's up
Amy: Want to go the food markets?
Delia: Yeah, I love seeing new stuff

Amy: Sure, some of it is scary
Delia: I'm no chicken little like the coach here
Jayden: Have fun
Amy: Don't worry, we won't bring some weird fish back
Delia: Yes, I heard about the catfish round here
Amy: Yes, they get very big. Bigger than any of the fish we've ever seen in Jeruselem

Jayden: I'm not eating any bottom feeding mud eaters
Amy: Don't worry, I'm not carrying one of those back here
Delia: I want to see those catfish
Amy: What about eating one?
Delia: I guess it's not going kill anyone, the locals seem to like catfish
Amy: I don't like eating mud

<Later>

Jayden: So, how was the catfish hunting?
Delia: I tell ya, there's plenty of fish round here
Amy: Reckon one of those catfish could feed a village
Delia: The stingray are huge too
Amy: Not eating those though
Delia: Stingray is yucky ...

Jayden: Yes well, I assume it would be
Amy: Did you know Beef Pho isn't Vietnamese?
Delia: Really?
Amy: No it's Vietnamese version of a French dish
Jayden: Well, funny things you learn
Amy: Yes, but I love it all the same. The stuff at home is pretty crap

Jayden: That's because we have crap beef
Amy: Oh well, it's time to leave I guess
Delia: She doesn't need to pack much anyway
Jayden: Because she's naked most of the time
Delia: Yes, the hotel people find her a bit odd not wearing anything in her room
Jayden: No one wants to see me, I'm over the hill

Fire Ants Dismantle Ancharmunn

It was a site for sore eyes for the Antoletia road fans as they got see 2 hours of beautiful play from their team, and watch the outright dismantling of the Ancharmunn national team. Two sides met on a bright day to play some football, and one side came away with 3 points after a beautiful display of the game. The once somewhat relevant Ancharmunn side was torn to pieces by the passing prowess of the Antoletia midfield, led by Captain Gheorghe von Leeweonheouck and the playmaking of defensive midfielder Raphael. The game started with a goal for the away side and ended with a goal for them.

It was only three minutes in when von Leeweonheouck found Hannibal down the right site, Hannibal smashed in a cross that found Anton Gregovich who pounced on the ball and slotted it past GD Viniter, the Ancharmunn goalie. It wouldn't be the last time in the night he would pick the ball out of the net. Gregovich would add a second in the 23rd minute off of a Raphael corner kick. The Ants made it 3-0 heading into halftime when Percival Devine scored his first goal for the national team on another corner kick. In the second half the Ants made it 4-0 thanks to substitute Clyde Dickens chipping the ball over a badly placed Ancharmunn goalkeeper. The Ants would then lose their clean sheet on the following flow of play as a shocked Martin Anghelescu looked on for a beautifully placed Ancharmunn free kick. The Ants would end the game with a fifth goal, the cherry on top of the cake, when another substitute, Anderson Pondecherry scored in his very first cap.

Part One: Little Anna and Father Patrick
Part Two: The Prime Minister and the Reluctant King
Part Three: The Apostate and the Assassin

Part Four: The Old Coach and the Architect
Blevit did indeed get along better with the next visitor, as Phillip Garren stepped through the door. Unlike Parrish, Garren and Blevit had remained relatively amicable towards each other since the Uprising, while Garren didn’t approve of his former midfielder’s actions, nor did he see any reason to condemn him over what he understood to be an act of patriotism. He’d attempted to serve as a pacifying intermediary between Parrish and Blevit over the years, but had since abandoned those efforts as futile. While Garren had had no contact with Q over the course of his life, Parrish had called for him because he knew he’d had several unfortunate run-ins with a Q-like being who shared his penchant for chaos. During the roller coaster ride that was World Cup 59, following an emotional and ultimately catastrophic draw against Union Isle, Garren had spilled his secret to Parrish: that his dreams were haunted by Margaret, the Goddess of Random Numbers and his personal tormentor.

Luke wasn’t sure what connection, if any, Margaret had to Q, but if Phillip had managed to keep her satisfied all these years, then perhaps they could attempt some similar things with Q. Luke pointedly ignored all the pleasantries between Phillip and Blevit, then motioned to the chairs arranged in a semicircle facing Anna’s bed, “Phillip, I asked you here for a very important discussion, and I hate to rush right to things but time is of the essence. Everyone please sit.” Phillip, Luke, Blevit, and Kevin Garrett all sat, while Anna remained in her bed and Nichols kept an imperious watch on the group from the back of the room. Luke leaned forward, allowing him to look at Garren more directly and also block Blevit out of his field of vision, “Phillip, the Queen is dying, as you know, but what you don’t know is that her illness is far from natural. A powerful being known as ‘Q’ has caused it, and I’m pulling together everyone who might have had contact with him or someone similar to help figure out how to solve this situation.”

Phillip nodded, “You’re talking about Margaret, I’m guessing?”

“Yes. I don’t know if you’ve ever had contact with Q, but I know you’ve spent years at odds with her, and the two are more similar than I’d care to dwell on. Several of us have met Q, but you’re the only one who’s managed to hold a Q-like being in check for any period of time.”

Phillip hated to disappoint, but there was little else he could do, “Well, first of all, Luke, I didn’t do much, and I haven’t really kept her in check. She basically does what she wants regardless of my pleading and I just have to hope she decides to let us win.”

Luke’s face fell, “I see. Well, that means you know about as much as the rest of us, so there’s no harm in you staying to help us solve this problem.”

“Well, I’m happy to help. Fill me in.”

As Parrish filled Garren in on what Q had told the Queen so far, Colonel Nichols discreetly accessed Garren’s military file on his handheld computer and reviewed the coach’s personal history. He’d never been much of a football fan, and because Garren’s brief involvement in August’s downfall had been before his time he knew little to nothing about the man. Born in Benguela seventy years ago, near the end of the reign of King Jan III, Garren had been involved in football from an early age. While the nation at that time had no official league system in place, he had become an accomplished keeper in one of the many regional and city leagues that kept football alive in West Angola between the collapse of the Gregon-sponsored national league and Baptism of Fire 45. Garren was discovered by Peter Warren on his tour around the country’s regional leagues while he built a team to compete in that tournament, as Warren had attended the match to watch Luke Parrish, but was so taken with Garren’s keeping and Parrish’s glowing endorsement of his skills that he had offered them both spots on the team.

Garren’s career had not lasted long after he journeyed to Astograth with the national team, as despite a shutout in his first match against Herenia (a 5-0 win), Garren was run down in the street after leaving the post-match celebration at a local restaurant. The accident, which ended his playing career, had been ordered by August II, who was attempting to generate the maximum amount of publicity for the football team to distract domestic observers from his extralegal attempts to secure additional power for himself. Garren’s injuries saved his life in the end, however, as he was not on the team plane when it crashed en route back to West Angola following their elimination. Being the only known survivor (Parrish was presumed dead at the time and Isaac Warren’s cloning was still a secret), Garren was selected as the coach for the team’s World Cup 58 campaign, the end of which featured his only intentional direct involvement in the West Angolan political sphere. Just after qualifying began, Garren was contacted by Parrish for help fermenting opposition to August’s rule, and allowed the rebellion to use his team as a cover for their activities, which brought him substantial unwanted attention from the monarchy when August discovered the level of dissent fermenting in his country.

Garren was arrested immediately prior to the team’s final match, caught between the rebellion and the government as both sides launched their final plans to eliminate the other. Presumably executed by the Royal Guard, Garren had been rescued by a loyalist and secreted in the cargo hold of the Royal Aircraft. Slipping out mid-flight, he had attempted to incapacitate the murderous King, but had been restrained by the Guard; on the verge of being executed (for real this time), Garren’s life was saved by Luke Parrish’s broadcast of August’s crimes over the radio, which patched through into the plane and exposed him. The Guard turned on August and arrested him, and Garren, along with Parrish and the clone of Isaac Warren, was hailed as a hero when he returned to Namibe with August in custody.

Garren had served as the coach of the football team ever since, surviving a hostile Sporting Ministry for nearly forty years, and leading the team to two World Cup qualifications and a Cup of Harmony title over a decade ago, still the high point in West Angola’s footballing history. A footnote on the biography commented that Garren seemed relatively apolitical despite his fame, and had refrained from endorsing candidates (with the exception of Parrish’s unwilling election as King) in elections of any level over the course of his life. Nichols frowned, The lack of an agenda makes him dangerous, what’s he hiding? Despite his tactical skill, Nichols was used to seeing things as black-and-white: if something served the interests of West Angola, it was right, if not, it was wrong, and he could not comprehend someone who did not take a side, always assuming they were hiding something. He resolved to keep an eye on Garren more closely than the others, except for Blevit of course.

Parrish had just finished bringing Garren up to speed when a bright flash filled the center of the room. As a highly trained Special Forces operative, Nichols had a weapon drawn and trained on the flash even before it had dissipated, and he called out loudly to the figure who had appeared, “Put your hands behind your head and lie down on the floor, now!”

Although he was facing away from Nichols, the figure knew exactly who was speaking, “Ah, my dear Colonel Nichols, the man who started all the fun in Cabinda. You don’t need that.” Instead of his sidearm, Nichols found himself holding a banana, which he threw down in anger.

Blevit was staring at him, rage creeping into his features, “You? You killed President Raven?” Garren put a hand on his arm to forestall any violence, “He’s not worth it, John. You’ll only get yourself killed.”

Q turned to face him, “Oh please, Phillip, if the man wants to cause a little ruckus, who are you to stop him?” Blevit appeared on the verge of hurling himself at Nichols, but seemed to get control of himself and shook his head. Q affected an exaggerated pout, “How disappointing.” Looking around, he added, “Well, it certainly is old home week here at the Palace, now isn’t it? Let’s complete the circle!”

Another flash, brighter than the first, and two men appeared in the room next to Q. Seeing the first, Anna gasped, while Parrish and Garren’s mouths dropped open as they caught sight of the other…

The Venalzio Merchant-Chronicle

Venalzio Lose To Multi-Time World Champions

STARBLAYDIA -- Venalzio's national football team returned to Venalzio yesterday in good spirits after three matches at the World Cup Qualification. The players and coaching staff returned early in the morning after the 1-0 away loss to the Starblaydian squad. ''We're obviously sad to lose, but it's a satisfying result against one of the world's best teams. We certainly weren't expecting to win the match, and we hope that when we host them here we can get a point,'' said team captain Sergio Conti, who was finally beaten in the 67th minute. ''We can't dwell on the loss, we have to look ahead towards our match with Itanpavria and try to get a result,'' said the manager Luigi Pisani, who has picked up his second loss as Venalzio manager after the game.

The World Cup campaign has been up and down so far for Venalzio. The squad won a decisive 1-0 victory at home over Alinghi Federal-Democratic Republic, in a score which didn't really reflect the balance of play. Pisani's men drilled the woodwork at least 4 times, and controlled the balance of play and possession tables of the game. It was Aldo De Luca's 3rd goal in his ninth cap for I Mercanti that secured the result in the 54th minute, but Luigi Pisani still laid into his forwards in the post-game team talk, lambasting their finishing.

''It's my responsibility to take care of our chances in this campaign, and I didn't like what I saw from them up front in the game. We won, but our fans were expecting more with all those shots and chances blown. We'll have to be better against taller opponents.'' While rumours of mutiny were abound in the media camp afterwards, Aldo De Luca put them to rest, saying ''We get where he's coming from, and he is completely right. We should have buried many more chances.''

A week later, Venalzio were once again at home to meet with the squad from Kitsunia-Deesse. This game marked the end of a low-scoring day in Group 11, with only 2 goals being scored in the 3 previous matches on the day, including a nil-nil draw between Sicoutimont and Starblaydia. It was looking like this game would go that way as well, with the teams deadlocked after 45 minutes. Sergio Conti, who was selected for the Baptism of Fire XI as a keeper, a match his side won 3-2, had put in a performance for the ages, but with Luigi Pisani using his final sub on Angelo Lori for Emilio Udinese in the 69th minute, the defence were left tired by the end of the game, and the blow would come off a set piece late.

Ricardo Corleone committed the foul just outside the box, and it was left to Louise Sioux on the free kick to convert. Sergio Conti dove correctly, but he couldn't get a glove on the ball and it flew into the top corner in the 81st minute. Although Luigi Pisani urged the team on from the touch and a late corner came oh-so-close, Venalzio just couldn't equalize and found themselves with their first ever loss at a World Cup Qualifying match. ''Once again, we just didn't finish,'' was all Pisani could say after the match. There was an early controversial no-call on a perceived penalty, but it is Venalzian football culture not to comment on refereeing decisions, and when asked by the foreign media Pisani simply replied, ''Who am I to comment on his decision? He is the ref, he saw it up close, I just see what I see from the sidelines. I won't be commenting any further on refereeing decisions in this tournament, so you know.''

Venalzio then headed into their first away match of World Cup Quals against one of the greatest nations ever to play in the World Cup tournament, Starblaydia. ''Obviously they are a side with quite a lot of history, and it's a great mountain to summit to get by them. But we'll turn in an honest effort in accordance to our philosophies, and see how they match against those of these other, bigger footballing nations. We'll give the fans a performance to cheer for.'' An aide for Dirigente Giorgio XVI stated that ''our thoughts are with those of the team, and we are all wishing them the best in the rest of the qualifying campaign,''. That was followed by an announcement that the Dirigente would be making an appearance at the home match against Itanpavria.

Venalzio looked the better side early in the match, to the surprise of many in the stands, getting some good opportunities early on and some near-misses. But the Starblaydi manager's half-time team talk must have worked wonders, as after the initial 45 his side were on a different level. Although Sergio Conti kept the fort so well throughout the match, he was beaten in the 67th minute after staving off waves and waves of assault from the Starblaydi offence. But finally they were able to slam the ball past him and into the goal, and the look of defeat on his face after such a good performance at the end of the 90 was a sad sight to see.

''We can't leave him (Sergio) out to dry like we did in the second half tonight. I said after the first match that it was our offence that needed to improve, and tonight it seems like it's offence and defence. Sergio has been our MVP so far, and this is my call-out to the other players on this squad: Let's get it together, and turn it up for the rest of this campaign,'' commented the manager after the match.

The Venalzio squad's chance to answer Pisani's call will come in a few weeks time, when Venalzio prepare to take on Itanpavria at home and Turori, group 11 leaders, away. Many things will happen in that time, including the arrival of new signing Giedius Justs arrival at Caracca Avenue, home ground of his new club Commercianti. The right back, a Buyanese international, hopes to make an impact for the arancione this year, especially in the Globe Cup after his previous experience for a former winner of that competition, Viztourzys Kolektyvinis. It'll be his, and the 23 players in this squad's chance to shine soon enough in the league, as it begins in seven week's time. Until then, the 23 players and coaches have official exemptions from the summer market to train and travel, all in the hopes of the World Cup. We'll see you again for the next phase of the qualification. Good luck, I Mercanti!

Purple Knights Defeat Greater Watford

It was a good day for a ball game, well as good a game as one can get in the Taeshani cold. At least it wasn't snowing. The pitch was ready for the onslaught of feet that came over it. The Purple Knights were expected to win the game, and they did as they should have. The Stairway to Heaven stadium was rocking throughout as the teams played the game. The stands were a sea of Purple as the Knights came on the field and it stayed that way throughout the afternoon.

There was only one real great moment of excitement throughout the game and it was the lone goal of the afternoon. It came 25 minutes into the game when a long free kick from Mark Tlumach found the head of Jeremi Krieder bounced over a bunch of defenders and found Grant Fauejeau at the far corner of the goal who pounced on the ball and pushed it into the back of the net. A true poached goal. Overall throughout the game the Knights passed the ball as expected, and held it as expected. Honestly they played how they should and after the goal they decided to hold back and keep from raining down goals on their opposition.

Princess Katy and the Jeru FC coach Andre after a recent win 3-1

Andre: Thank the Gods for that
Katy: Yes, 1 point from 2 games wasn't in the script
Andre: Should be a lot easier with Bears Armed out of the way
Katy: Still 1-0 loss to them wasn't all bad
Andre: Could have been far worse
Katy: Yes well, give our ranking

Andre: We're back in the fight, sorta
Katy: We need a few more wins first
Andre: Yes, but there's plenty of football left to go
Katy: I guess it is
Andre: They've stopped defending like old men too
Katy: I guess they had to wake up when facing the bear belles

Andre: I can't have complacency given our lowly ranking
Katy: You didn't get fresh injection of new players either
Andre: I'm stuck with these guys, bit like recycling
Katy: I'm stuck following them around as well
Andre: You're the only reason why we get people to watch us
Katy: Really?

Andre: No one watches Jeru FC because we're Jeru FC
Katy: It would be different if the team was all girls
Andre: Yes it would
Katy: It used to be all girls
Andre: Yes, but ... I got this lot
Katy: Nevermind, keep up the good work

Andre: I do my best
Katy: You really should retire
Andre: But hey, I need the money while it's there
Katy: I guess you do, kids aren't cheap
Andre: You don't have money problems
Katy: Yeah but my kids are real expensive

After a dark and pathetic performance in the Sandwich Territories, which even the Sandwiches poked fun at by stealing our joke and claiming us to have been "turned into flatbread", the usually cheerful and perky tones of E Mare Libertas seemed hollow as they bellowed through Philibiscostal. Les Oiseaux fans were unusually quiet and mellow as their team came out of the tunnel, with the scars of Castille's tackle against Alexander Wolff still fresh on everyone's minds. Yet the game would be a much needed turnaround for the Saint James Islanders. Despite Dessantos, Llosa, Castille, Kostas and Mani being unable to play for one reason or another, Juan Manuel de Rosas and Jean-Baptiste Archambault were able to piece together a squad that could dominate the possession game at the Arena. However, the team were unable to turn that game into results, as Nouvel Ecosse were able to pick up five saves and a clean sheet. Luckily Intan picked up a clean sheet as well, keeping out two shots from the Ecossians. The rest of the game proved rather uneventful as Les Oiseaux kept the ball for more than three-fifths of the game and, unlike in the last game, fouls and cards were not to be seen in what was ultimately a clean game with no substitutions. Yet, the game had to end at some point and lost opportunities gave Les Oiseaux a crushing draw in a group they were fiercely struggling in.

so where does that leave us?

7 yveltal 3 0 1 2 6 11 −5 1
8 saint james islands 3 0 1 2 3 10 −7 1 - they who god hates

I think that this qualifying stage proves that there is a god. One that clearly does not like us. One that sadistically likes to see us suffer. One that I am starting to have a seething hatred for.

Even though I am eating my words as we speak, at least the situation is improving for us. Though we are still winless, we're no longer sitting on a goose egg. At least the race to the bottom is now a three-way seal clubbing fest, rather than a one-man freak show. Our continued awful performances are killing any chance we have at qualifying for the World Cup, but our hopes of getting off the bottom are starting to look up, so long as we can churn out some points and mitigate that satanic spawn of a goal difference we have. And we might just have the antidote to our problems coming up. Just don't count on getting tickets to see or living if you go to cheer Les Oiseaux on, kiddies.

who's next?
We seem to be on a lucky streak in that we're playing the second-to-last place team again: Yveltal is next. Their strategy is odd and possibly a crime against f***ing humanity of some sort. Their last team lost and was executed, so lucky Les Oiseaux get to play against a team that has absolutely no experience in internationals whatsoever. And we're no longer the team with the most goals conceded, Yveltal is that team now. So as long as Dessantos can recover and the power trio of Mani, Raia and Kostas can play, this should be a piece of cake for us.

Our Les Oiseaux prediction: Victory is here at last!

Zwangzug's e-Lipogram
Dawn braking, stopping for Zwangzug win

Zwangzug won its third World Cup qualification match, playing away, on a goal from Diallo. This was our talk with him (as is our wont, not put down word for word).

Us: Congratulations!
Him: Thanks!
Us: How's it going, starting on most occasions?
Him: It's fun. Not as distinct from subbing in as I'd thought, as you wouldn't play back-to-back with just a short gap...it's slow, so I'm not playing a lot, starting or no. But trading up my old kit, putting on just a solo digit...as I put that on for my first match, it was amazing.
Us: And what do you think of Zwangzug's coach?
Him: It's an honor to play for anybody that famous! I thought it was sort of silly, at first, nobody told us. So I found out about it watching TV, and I thought, "what, is this actual truth?" It was, so I was just laughing a lot. But obviously not much is changing as far as formations go.
Us: Would you want that?
Him: Oh, who am I to say?
Us: You play for a good club, you got a goal in World Cup qualification, I think you can rightfully talk!
Him: Haha, okay, I don't want to doubt such a coach. Who's just trying to fit into this country, you know? But I think it would do us good, to switch things around. How did Stirvik play? A middling approach...two forwards might not work for us, but why stick with this X? Without a star who wants to play within a box of four, I don't know why to stay on this track. Try a wing formation. Or vary our attacking support, I don't know.
Us: That sounds insightful. Would you want to push forward? Try scoring a lot?
Him: I don't know. If it would do us good, okay. If I had to fall back a lot and mop up stuff, I don't know if I'd do that too skillfully, but if that was my task, I'd try. Until that occurs, it's an honor to start.
Us: Who do you hang out with, off-pitch?
Him: Obviously our upcoming Bug is cool; Hajna [Lantos] and him snark a lot about random stuff. I don't know, my kind of humor isn't in total calibration with that.
Us: From your starting cohort?
Him: Franklin always says I should log on to my virtual accounts and talk to my fans. I'm lazy and don't do that, haha. Tullio Schi always has a good story for sharing with us. Martina Ruan's focus is astounding.
Us: Do you look up to that kind of charisma?
Him: Uh...sort of...that is. It's not my approach, but I can know it for what it is. It's what I worry about, playing against that FTC club, anyway!
Us: And what do you think is upcoming for your Bugs?
Him: Good luck? I'd want to think. Um, our club is all about not stalling, playing fast, but I'm optimistic that with a bit of solidity in back, our attack isn't our only strong point? And not just "oh, try saving a shot," but cutting down on how many shots our opposition can try. That's our plan, anyway.
Us: It's a good plan.
Him: You won't wish us luck?
Us: Um, your national squad, obviously! But it's hypocritical to support just your club; our staff support pro squads of anybody who talks with us. Which adds up to a lot of clubs.
Him: I'm just joking. That's a good approach.
Us: Okay, thanks. Trying this again. Good luck to Zwangzug!
Him: Thanks!

World Cup Qualifiers - Match Three
Estope - The Blaatschapen
Emanuel-Inzer Stadium
Twin Brooks, Estope

Brian Monte, Head of Estope Soccer
"Bishop Perkins, here at The Estope Soccer Association we have an upmost respect for the Church. In fact, we were hoping the Church would like to partner with us for our upcoming game against The Blaatschapen. You see, they have a picture of a sheep on their flag and, well, Jesus was the good shepherds so I thought it would be an appropriate game to team up for."

"Thank you for the kind offer Mr. Monte, but I'm afraid we will have to decline. You see I just don't feel comfortable spending money to sponsor a sporting event. There are much greater causes that our money can go to."

"Don't worry about the money at all. We will do this partnership free of charge. We can turn it into some youth event. We'll bring together the best Christian musicians to do a pre-game, halftime, and post-game concert. Bring some speakers as well to give some talks. It will be like World Youth Day but on a much smaller scale, and with a soccer game in the middle of it."

"Hmm. That does seem like a pretty good proposal. There will only be a week to organize it all though. And besides I don't really like the idea of mixing the faith with sports. Adoration or Mass would be a much better center piece for this youth event than a soccer game. It kind of clashes with the message that such an event would have. I have a counter offer for you. You let us use the stadium for this youth conference event in a couple of months away from soccer and in return I will run an ad for this game in all the parish bulletins and bill it as Catholic Night at the stadium. Offer them like $5 off for bringing the bulletin with them and you'll have a full stadium."

"You got yourself a deal. I want you to get a Christian band for halftime though and I expect you to give a short talk before the game."

---

"Coach Freezus, best of luck in the game today."

"Well thank you Bishop. You know what the key to our success has been, well other than my brilliant scheme of course. Before every game I open the Bible at random and read some inspirational passage to the team. And then we pray as a team to go out there and crush the opposition."

"Don't you feel it would be better just to pray for your players to perform to the best of their abilities. After all in the whole grand scheme of things a victory matters not. Just something to think about in the future. Now if you will excuse me I have to go now and give a little talk to the crowd."

---

"Thank you all for coming out today to support our nation's team. No doubt we are all proud of their efforts so far and pray that they keep their intensity throughout this qualifying cycle. This could finally be the year that qualify with how we have been playing so far. But let us not lose focus on what is important in life. Yes soccer is enjoyable to watch and there is nothing wrong with the game. It is actually very good, as is all things, if it remains in the right context. But it must remain a past time, not a life. All that really matters in the end is your relationship with Christ and with one another. If you are Catholic and have fallen away from the faith, come home. If you are not but have questions about the faith, I encourage you to find an outlet to ask those questions. The Church doors are always open for you to stop by and talk to a priest. Also Catholic Radio has many call in shows to learn about the faith, both for Catholics and non-Catholics alike. There is no greater joy in life than developing a close relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ. Now let us pray. I found this prayer in a prayer book I was reading the other day and since it was very fitting for today I thought I would share it with you.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
God our Father,
You have created us to strive for the best.

Post game Interview
"Coach Freezus, congratulations on the win but you did not look as strong out there as you have been looking in the past two games. Why do you think that is? Fatigue or have they finally caught onto your strategy?"

"Maybe some of it was fatigue since we didn't practice at all this week. Since we were playing a team ranked beneath us I figured we would just steamroll through them, and I think we would have expect for one thing. You see, usually I pray for our team's victory and utter demolition of the opponent but Bishop Perkins had the audacity to pray for both teams to perform their best. However I feel as though he directed that prayed more towards the Blaatschapen players since he knew that I already prayed with my team. I know he only meant the best but obviously a Bishop has more pull with God than I do. Luckily I am a genius at my job and we had enough talent to persevere."

"Next week will be a tough match against Zwangzug, currently top of the group and undefeated. Will you make.."

"Sorry no more comments for tonight. I just noticed the time and I'll be late to Bingo if I don't hurry. You'll all have to excuse me."

The World Cup 69 Qualifiers
☆★ Disasters Throughout ★☆

Previous Editions: Roster of Star United States; Here We Come; First Glimpse; One Day Closer;Match Day One Preview;Day One Out and Over; World Cup Qualifiers - Day Two;

City of Star - Code Yellow - The capital city of Star United States was recently under light rain that commenced this morning, but as the day progressed the rain got harder and harder as it dropped electric lines and tress. Other than that the city is completely fine, and the citizens have not been called into emergency code red. The city has been called under code yellow, which means to proceed with caution. This city hosted a World Cup Qualifier, and the only one this city will host.

Lake Star - Code Green - Lake Star is the only city under code green in Star United States. This city is currently just under a little rain, just a drizzle. This city will host a World Cup Qualifier on July 28, 2014 at the Five-Point Stadium.

Northern Ridge - Code Yellow - Want calm weather? Well go to Northern Ridge, the sun shined most of the day, until recently when a mysterious fog went through the city and many took safety measures by just staying home. All Summer Schools Programs have been cancelled tomorrow. (You're welcome kids!)

Woodbed City - Code Red - Extreme flooding as rain has poured over the city all day - exceeding the capacity of the city's plumbing. Luckily, no World Cup Qualifiers will be played in this city. The citizens of this city have been evacuated to the emergency underground bunkers directly under the city.

SeaShore City - Code Red - All the citizens have been forced out of the city to the underground bunkers in Woodbed City and Northern Ridge. This city is in great danger of destruction as the government of Star United States has tried its best to keep at the buildings safe. A World Cup Qualifier against The Blaatschapen and the National Department of Sports has not changed the venue, but this is still up to debate. Any changes, it will be announced.

Golden City - Code Orange - The engineers didn't take in count a storm when this city was built in the intersection of two rivers. Talk about a challenge there. A World Cup Qualifier against Estope will take place here, and there are no changes, so far, to this, even though members of this community have been asked to prepare to take refuge in the underground bunkers.

Hery City - Code Yellow - High winds picked up after noon, and the officials of the city noticed something was going on. They called a warning upon the city and push it as soon as the rain hit. Minor floodings have occured throughout the city, but nothing uncontrollable. Many from Code Red cities have taken refuge in this city.

Pixe City - Code Yellow - Early this morning high winds picked up in Pixe, soon a tornado formed. The tornado, shockingly, went around the city causing minor damage. Many city officials were shocked as the trajectory of the tornado went bordering the city - refusing to enter city limits.

Jackson City - Code Orange - Many wished Jackson City had the same history as Pixe City, but a few hours later of the tornado at Pixe City, twin tornadoes touched ground near Jackson City. One of the tornadoes took a turn into the inhabited plains towards the tropical rainforest. The tornado did not reach the rainforest. On the other hand, the second tornado went right through southern Jackson City, causing major damages. The Jackson Stadium will be unable to host the upcoming World Cup Qualifier against Zwangzug on Saturday. The Department of Sports has yet to annouce the new venue.

City of Fredericksburg - Code Yellow - High winds and heavy rain engulfed the city today causing major electrical damages as the city is currently without any electrical power. The government of the city send its apologizes to all the youth that will not be able to charge their electronic devices. The Eastern Stadium, located in this city, will be hosting a World Cup Qualifier. The authorities hope to have the electric power working before August 5, the day of the match. If not, the National Department of Sports will have to provide another venue.

Riverside City - Code Orange - Riverside City is recovering from major flooding produced from the growing river due to the rain. The rain has completely stopped, but water is everywhere. Citizens of this city are currently underground in bunkers. The government has issued an decree to clean up the extra water in the city streets. Hopefully, the members of this city will be able to return to their homes in less than a week.

"Good evening, Neu Engollon.
I'm Magda Wertauer..."

"...And I'm Gerry Paseult."

"We're here on the NETV Sports 7 Update. Thanks for tuning in."

"Magda, let's dive in, shall we? Straight to the World Cup 69, which is being held in multiple nations hosting their own home games. We have seen the third matchday pass by and the Goats are holding strong."

"They sure are, Gerry. A great first match against Falcus a couple days ago, with 4 goals knocked in."

"...And the Falcons only able to manage one. This was a super boost to their start in the Cup. Falcus was not a team to dismiss, but the Goats handled them capably. That first match was key to setting the mood for the Goats and spiking the morale."

"Most certainly. I agree...The second matchday was against relative unknown Laiyenda, in which the Goats were able to put up two to their one goal. The One Team Project of Laiyenda had a promising start in the Baptism of Fire, and they may still be a force to be reckoned with..."

"I don't think so, Magda. I think the One Team Project needs more years to develop, and I'm a little pissed at my former teammates for not notching more goals against these newbies. We should have dominated that game instead of winning by one. I mean, look at the Falcus match. Nah...not having it..."

"OK, Gerry, ease in here...So, then we had Match Day three. A zero all draw against McKleigh. Who saw that one coming? Despite Brenz, Siebech and Himmelmann in on numerous attacks on their goal, we just couldn't catch a break."

"No, we couldn't, Magda. McKleigh had a solid defense and this one...I gotta say that the Goats did the best they could, unlike the Laiyenda match in which they took it easy, they really went all out on this one and it still wasn't enough. Disappointed in the outcome, but we can be proud that the Goats are hanging in there."

"Let's hope they keep hanging in there and can advance. Who is Atanatos, now?"

"No idea, Magda. New team. Catch the next match here on Sports 7 when they face Atanatos.
Rebroadcasts will be on NETV Sports 19, along with highlights and player profiles. We have Karl Demais in the studio ready to bring you roller derby scores after the break..."

Postby Brenecia » Thu Jul 24, 2014 11:51 pm

Erin Camden absently scratched her hair.
Eleven Brenecians lining up for the national anthem - white-and-cyan shirts for ten of them, Jayce Pence in a vibrant pink. Given as the national anthem detailed extensively throwing off (implicitly Nepharim) shackles and killing (explicitly Nepharim) guards, Erin, who was born in Vermillion, always felt a little uncomfortable singing it. But she lined up for it regardless, hands behind her back, and occasionally her words blurred through a few choice phrases.
They'd never not lost to the Syndicate in four attempts. That was a trend they had to buck if they wanted a shot at qualification.
She glanced to her left; big Seth Greig, the number six, a spiteful centreback nursing a permanent chip on his shoulder. To her right, Cheney Scherzer, always stylishly scruffy, and an outrageous flirt. Both Crisisbless players, both good ones at that, but neither exactly a household name outside of Brenecia or Nephara.
And they were up against a truly world-class side. In their stadium.
This was going to take some doing.

Jayce Pence had come under fire recently.
Most of it was warranted, even she would admit that. She'd had a shocker against Notsofreeland, and honestly, could've done better last match. She was very much a goalkeeper who could swing hot or cold... and she was hardly irreplaceable. Felix Carrick was certainly more reliable than she'd ever be, and Paul Ashpike was champing at the bit for a chance of his own.
She had to make the best of her chances here, or at this rate she'd stop getting chances. In a hurry, at that. Just had to keep an eye on the play and hope her defence covered her well and where the fuck is Clint and that's a long ball over the top that isn't offside that's
Pratt coolly took the ball, played slackly onside by Clint Gallagher, and slotted it into the far corner past a wildly diving Pence. It was only the sixth minute, and already it looked like a repeat of the old days...

The weight of the world was on Seth Greig's broad shoulders.
He was, by a distance, Brenecia's best centreback. He was among their best players in general. But he wasn't expecting to have to claw goals back for them.
Still - it had been a good spell of possession for Brenecia. They'd managed to get the ball rolling after a stuttering early spell which had left Jayce Pence exposed more than once; Pence, to her credit, had responded magnificently, and was right now keeping the Patriots in the game.
And now they were on the counter-attack. Cheney Scherzer took possession from a decent forward ball, managed to sashay past Diodomia and smashed the ball at goal. d'Sauviterre slapped the ball out for a corner, not seeming to expect the force put on the strike. A corner... and from Catherine Bardsley's frantic gesturing on the sidelines, it was all hands on deck up front.
Greig sighed and hustled forward, taking up a position roughly in the middle of the box, muscling the 32-year old Luke Mitchell away from him. Miriam Spitfire stood over the ball, took stock of it, and smashed it at the box.
It was one of those corners that would've just gone frustratingly clean through everyone in the box, nobody getting a touch despite it being all but perfect. And besides, Mitchell was ready to leap with Greig, who was, after all, just a centreback. He could head the ball straight, but surely wasn't capable of anything dynamic. Surely?
Greig swore quietly as he saw the angle of the ball, leapt forward knowing he'd look ridiculous if he missed, and felt a sudden white flash of pain as the ball smashed him full in the face and crept into the far corner of the goal.
It was more slapstick than pretty. But, more importantly, Brenecia were level again... and with fifty minutes to play, the possibility rose up that they could genuinely do this.

The half-time interval came and went quickly. Catherine Bardsley, as usual, was enthusiastically frantic. "Forty-five more minutes of this and we've clawed that much closer to the World Cup," she said firmly, as her closing note. "The work we do here today could add up to make the most important moment in Brenecian football history. Ambition. That's what I want from you out there."
Everyone heard it - and by God, they took it to heart. Coming racing off the blocks, they soon had Scherzer rushing onto a long ball from Snowden on the break, easily rounding the goalkeeper and side-footing it into the net... but it was called rightfully offside. Scherzer looked livid, but he was the only one in the entire stadium that didn't see the right call was made.
The Syndicate took some heart from that call, and Pratt was soon found by a cross in some dangerous space... before Greig rushed heroically back to block the shot with a sliding tackle. A direct free kick won soon afterwards was hit low and hard, but Jayce Pence denied it brilliantly, and soon enough Brenecia had another chance, Camden to Underwood to Spitfire, before the left winger blazed it narrowly over the crossbar.
Finally, Brenecia were clicking - and the Syndicate were not. Every part was falling neatly into place, and they were showing the spirit to overcome a technically superior side. Even when Daniel Snowden was substituted for Isadora Cullen, there was no loss in chemistry - an A-League player was standing up to players of this calibre.
It was a shame it couldn't last.

Clint Gallagher had been caught off-guard for the first goal. He was determined not to make the same mistake for the second. He'd been marking Pratt ferociously all match since then, and the 31-year old striker had struggled.
So three minutes prior, on had come Rhys West of Bastion. Who was twenty. Gallagher's turn of pace was never the best, and suddenly West was everywhere, the Sabrefell Moths defender constantly a step or two behind. And meanwhile, the central midfield battle was coming to a close; Breton, Underwood and Camden had been run utterly ragged, and the Syndicate were chaining passes together freely, and one found captain Bradley Birch with all the space in the world, and he chipped the ball neatly over everyone...
Only West and Gallagher could chase it, and there was only one winner there. The Bastion striker claimed it, and Gallagher, faced with the prospect of either brutally scything him down and getting sent off for a penalty, or trying hopefully to show him the near side of the post.
He chose the latter.
It would've worked, had it not been the easiest thing in the world for West to cross to a forward-rushing Allen for a practically open goal, the easiest chance in the world...
And, well. They don't miss those.

Thirteen minutes to go. Just thirteen.
The veteran Alex Sutler came on for the Syndicate for Baker - somewhat belatedly, Emma Kelly replaced a furious Clint Gallagher. Brenecia needed a goal. Twelve minutes. Eleven.
Camden found some space at last, pressing past Jay Robinson and carving out a lovely forward pass; but Spitfire couldn't get to it, Tavel getting to it first and cleaning it up for a throw-in. Ten minutes.
The throw-in went nowhere. The Syndicate came forward on the counter-attack, but Augustine Breton flattened Cotrell to nip it in the bud. Nine minutes. Syndicate free-kick went straight to Pence. Eight. Seven.
Portadown blazes a strike over the bar from way out. Breton swears loudly at her. Six.
Five.
Four.
Three. Three minutes, the commentators speculating on the number of added time. Nothing could happen in this short space of time before injury time. Last-minute goals only happen in, well, the last minute, after all.
And very suddenly and violently, the Patriots disagreed.
Snatching the ball from an uncharacteristically sloppy Birch, Allbeck showed a turn of pace she'd been unable to for the past fifteen minutes through sheer exhaustion. Clearly, she sensed an opening, and a pass to Isadora Cullen on the wing made it one. Hesitantly, Rowan Diodomia came out to challenge her, but Cullen rounded him with surprising ease even as he flung out a leg in a last-ditch effort to stop her. Her pass was low and fast, straight to Scherzer's feet as Robinson, Sutler and Tavel all came to shut him down.
Scherzer, miraculously, found the opening. Because when you couldn't go around, you went through. Specifically, knocking the ball past Sutler and dashing past the 32-year old veteran, his skill and experience suddenly so much less important than Scherzer's sheer turn of pace, before turning to smash the ball high and past d'Sauviterre.
It had all happened so suddenly. But in a flash, Brenecia had stolen the match. Hell, thirty seconds prior the commentators had been discussing Samantha Allbeck's career, twenty seconds ago the camera was focused on a particularly voluptuous away fan. And now, it was 2-2.
The Brenecians were physically drained; the Syndicate, emotionally. And despite the four minutes of what would've been a thrilling, sensational injury time were the Patriots still chasing the game, the match ebbed out to a close.
At the fifth time of asking, Brenecia had finally wounded the mighty Inevitable Syndicate.
And suddenly, qualification seemed almost possible...

Diandra Ballard
If she closed her eyes, Diandra could still feel the weight of the runners-up medal on her neck.
The second-ever Youth Cup. And AFC Treason's squad had come second as well. And it was as the second goal from the Ospreys flew past her hands that she knew they were headed for defeat. For all the heart and soul of the Nepharim, they were lacking in such minor details as 'technique', 'physical conditioning' and 'actual merit'.
Kurtis Quinn had stabbed one past the Jan Mayen goalkeeper late on, in the 81st, enough for hope. But the Ospreys held firm against the Stags, and the result that had seemed inevitable came at last, 2-1.
It was either the best or the worst feeling of Diandra's career, getting that medal. The best since, well, that was what put the youth of then-New Sideburn in the international eye. It had raised interest in the U-21 program, and by extension Project +90. The entire attitude shift in favour of youth in Nephara began with that run in the Youth Cup.
The worst was that they'd been a different set of ninety minutes away from winning it all. And wasn't that what meant everything?
Remarkably almost every player from that squad made it somewhere; she'd been the best, but Rachael Green, Markus Anderton, Cheney Portsmouth... the aforementioned Quinn, the stocky left-back Moody, and though neither played that day, Kath Boston and Sarah Carmady, all were part of the Treason setup these days. She'd been one of few to leave the nest for good; Violet Clarion, who'd captained that squad, was based in Felix these days. That was the thing with goalkeepers. Russ Miller, one of the best goalkeepers in all of Esportiva and probably the best in the league, had another decade in him; you didn't need two such players.
So she'd left to Crisisbless, straight after her two-year loan in Taijan (and what exactly had happened to that league in her absence?) where she'd slotted immediately into the first eleven. Immediately she'd made a name for herself with her reflex saves and adventurous moves upfield. People had begun to think of her as the inevitable first-choice as Nepharim goalkeeper... eventually. That was the bitch of it - time. She had to make her breakthrough someday...
But she was patient, and she knew her place. Right now it was the 20 on her back. Someday soon it'd be 12. Soon afterwards, the 1. All she had to do was keep doing her job.
And by God, she knew she loved it.

Hubris?
You can't win anything with kids.
That was conventional logic. And it normally bore out. But with 45 minutes played at the Farham Arena, Kiryu-shi were, in fact, winning something with kids.
Two goals. One from Kiku Hamasaki, a 19-year old. She'd picked up a long ball from Ueno, who was seventeen. Seventeen! And she'd tapped it in at the far post, Coleman helpless, Marlowe badly caught out. And the second was a direct free kick that nobody could've done anything about. The source was... well, arguably a dive from Hamasaki, but the quality was clear from Kazuo Seidel. Who was eighteen.
The Nepharim were badly off their game and a record that had stood for nine years, nine goddamn years of being unbeaten on home soil, was in peril. From children. Talented, technically capable, well-drilled... children.
Jess Mortlock was almost too disgusted to put forward a speech, but she went ahead. The wording was uncompromising. "Go out there and win the fucking match," she'd said, less than calmly, before storming out. It was like something out of Gethin Ramsey's days, truly vintage. No substitutions, though.
So here they stood. The crowd (a decent 82,000, mostly, obviously, in green) hadn't thinned, but it had turned more hostile. "Let's pretend, let's pretend, LET'S PRETEND WE'VE SCORED A GOAL! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHH"
"Fickle cunts," muttered Keith Rowland, before kicking off to Cathar.

The first goal was almost a thing of beauty. And that was rare, from the Cormorants; they passed short and quick, and they tended to shoot from inside the box, too. But Kylie Penrith was... well, she played in Farfadillis, which told a story of its own. So as she began a run that sashayed neatly past Joyner, then d'Etaples, then cutting inside to utterly fuck Ueno over, it looked as though a rare spectacular final shot might be in the words. But while you can take the Nepharim out of Sabrefell, you couldn't take Sabrefell out of the Nepharim; Penrith chipped it over both defenders, who were badly out of position, and Rowland stabbed it into the net for his third goal in four.

And they did get their second, too - by now the Kiri were in disarray, either trying valiantly to attack and rack up a third goal, or, in defence, simply looking confused and scattered. And it was as Burkholder tried and failed to find an opening that laid the foundations for a counterattack, as Michael Brandon neatly dispossessed him before quickly getting the ball forward to Locke. The Violence Chariots midfielder played a neat one-two with Penrith to cut Ueno and Joyner out entirely, before a superb ball from Locke got Rowland into possession with his back to goal, and Hall harrying him. The Holdenberg striker had the option of turning to shoot, but instead chose to stab a pass... back to Locke, who suddenly had a whole world of space in front of him from just inside the penalty area. His shot was low and hard - Yamaguchi was left without a chance.

Two all. Thirty-five minutes left. Kiryu-shi seemingly being overrun. But, suddenly, just as everything was going right, nothing went right. First Rook Cathar, who hadn't scored yet through all of qualifying, spooned a volley over the bar unmarked from seven yards - Cathy Stokes, who gave him the chance on a platter, looked like she wanted to throttle him. And then the Kiri started to get it together; Uena, Hall and Irby got into the rhythm they'd been in the whole of the first half. Suddenly Rowland and Cathar found themselves shut down and isolated; Cathar suddenly ruing the easy chance he'd pissed away, now denied another. And Burkholder came bursting out of nowhere in a sudden space created by the fluid Kiri attack - it took a great tackle from Tosca Marlowe to break him down. Hamasaki came close with a header that dropped perfectly for him from Seidei, then Seidei came close himself, though his shot was ultimately weak and easily dealt with by Coleman. And suddenly the Kiri were exploiting the high line of the Cormorants, forcing them back, or forcing Coleman to cover for them - had they had a more conservative goalkeeper, the third goal would've been inevitable. The crowd began to turn again, and James Sleet, who'd had a quiet match, felt a coin bounce off his shoulder. He was substituted soon afterwards for Elaine Blackstock... who was, really, a centreback.

It seemed as though things were at a standstill, or worse.

But then, yet again, Rook Cathar turned from villain to hero in the flash of an eye - just like against Valladares, two years ago. It had seemed like an innocent cross from Elaine Blackstock, floating harmlessly twelve yards from goal. It seemed like that right up until the moment Cathar leapt to put a foot through it, a thunderbolt cracking past a motionless Hamasaki and into the net.

This, then, was a truly beautiful goal. And the Cormorants' wings weren't clipped just yet...

THE EMPIRE TIMES

Blouman Eagles Hold Off Nassau Eagles

The Blouman Empire travelled to The Pavilion in Nassau-Hessen as both teams seeked to extend their qualifying run to three wins. The Blouman Eagles scored two early goals from Kane Harrison and Henry Barreller and despite a strong fight by the Nassau Eagles to even up the score line the Empire managed to secure the win.

Confidence was high in both camps after strong performances exhibited in the first two matches, but it was the Blouman Eagles that blasted out of the gates taking early control of the game putting the Nassauite defenders under pressure. Harrison, Blaine Cooperson and Michael Walkers all had shots on goal within the first 10 minutes calling Nassau keeper Falco Brambler into action. It was in the 12th minute where a corner kick taken by Percy Baser found the head of an unmarked Harrison as he diverted it into the goal. The Nassau team didn’t even have time to recover when the Blouman Eagles took a quick restart and worked their way down the field scoring a goal only 45 seconds later. Good vision from Cooperson saw him send the ball down for an oncoming Barreller who quickly took a shot with his left foot sending the ball slamming into the net. While shocked to be down by two goals so early Nassau wouldn’t let that dampen their resolve and worked quickly to deny the Empire any more easy goal scoring opportunities. Nassau had their first shot at goal 20 minutes in when Blanco Chubbs found himself some space but hooked it wide. He had another chance and this time struck it cleanly forcing Milton Tuneson to tap it over the bar. The Blouman Eagles managed a few more shots looking to extend their lead but were unable to finish as they had earlier in the half.

The start of the second half and it was obvious that the manager’s half time talk had an effect on his team as they took control of the midfield leaving the Blouman side to play catch up. Nassau took the first shot of the second half with a solid strike by Balbo Zarambaga that curled around the wrong side of the post. Two minutes later he lobbed one over the post after a deep cross from Mungo Loamsdown. Despite the setbacks Nassau continued their relentless attack straining the Blouman defence, and forced Emergaton to take off Walkers from the front line and put on defender Paul James. A through ball from Sancho Bolgorro gave Orgulas Sanybanks a clear run on goal but was pulled back as the linesman raised his flag calling offside. Nassau looked certain to get a goal when a penalty was awarded after Jacob Kleeza tripped up Zarambaga in the area earning him a yellow. It was left to Sanybanks to get the Nassau Eagles back in the game but a poor hit allowed Tuneson to keep Nassau scoreless. While the Blouman Eagles created a few chances in the second half with attempts by Cooperson and Harrison they were unable to dominate like that had in the first 20 minutes of the game. With time running out Nassau doubled their efforts desperately seeking to get at least a goal while the Blouman players desperately held them off. It seemed that it had worked on the 86th minute when Chubbs got his head to the ball after a cross came in from Loamsdown, however, as the home crowd and the players celebrated the referee held his hand up high calling it offside. The replay would show that Loamsdown was onside prompting howling and boos from the fans and a number of commentators to continue the conspiracy of favouritism towards top teams by the WCC. That incident would be the last of the game with the final score ending 2-0 to the Blouman Empire.

Blouman captain Hamish Alpin spoke highly of his fellow defenders in holding off the Nassau forwards “It was one of the hardest games I’ve played, I have to thank my colleagues in staying strong and to our game plan we all earned our worth today”. The win puts the Empire into second spot still on equal points with The Royal Barangay as they continue their strong run through the qualifiers. The team will be looking to take it to four straight wins when they face Green Highland a game they are predicted to easily win.

Match Integrity Unit trial postponed after gruesome murder of key witness

The inquiry into Azai Kanon’s alleged involvement in fixing draws in the last Cup of Harmony has been postponed until further notice after Jack Hughes, a former MP and Minister for Sports was found murdered in unusual circumstances at the Centralis Hilton. It is understood that the government paid for the Mizuyuki-jin Azai Kanon, her assistant, Kazuyuki Shirai (first name, family name) and Jack Hughes to stay in the Centralis Hilton in preparation for this first trial.

Questions are being raised as to why they were allowed to stay in the same hotel, and in the same floor as well, given the anonymity between them. In any case, the government of Electrum released a statement saying that: “For logistical and cost-saving reasons, we made a decision to hold them together in the same hotel.”

The police have in fact arrested a suspect for the murder of Jack Hughes, and was revealed to be, in fact, the assistant of Azai Kanon, Kazuyuki Shirai. According to police officer Marc Broadbent, “The police have decisive evidence proving Kazuyuki’s guilt, and we will submit them accordingly to the state prosecutors.”

In an interesting turn of events, it has been revealed that this trial of Kazuyuki Shirai will in fact be the test trial for the new inquisitorial system of trial which promises quicker justice and allows for the input of greater legal expertise into the system (the judge will be making the verdicts, instead of the jury). A prosecutor and defence lawyer have yet to be appointed.

Details will be forthcoming tomorrow where the investigation will start. The trial has been set to start in two days’ time to allow for the collection of evidence among other things. Meanwhile, the Match Integrity Unit’s trial has been set back until this trial finishes. There are suspicions raised among those in the legal bar at the possible connection between the incoming murder trial and the match corruption trial.

Jack Hughes was said to have been in the possession of relevant information, which he said would blow the whole trial out of the water. He has been known to hold residual power over the Sports Ministry, even after his resignation, and was said to have ordered some investigations in the aftermath of the controversy. Now, with his death, will the multiverse ever know what really happened? Just what was he going to reveal?
With so many questions, an unnatural death only serves to raise more questions, and we hope that this trial comes to a speedy end, as promised by the government.

PEON: Well here we are.
LACKEY: Yes.

PEON: Waiting for a train.
LACKEY: Yep.

PEON: We will seat ourselves in this big metal box, then sit down in a little fabric box located in a larger concrete box.
LACKEY: My fabric box is actually an open-faced isosceles triangle.

PEON: And we will do this until someone lowers us into a box and buries us in a sphere.
LACKEY: Commute without end, Amen.

PEON: I'm beginning to understand the true solace of religion; not necessarily the idea of a loving God who forgives you all your sins...
LACKEY: I haven't had time for any really interesting sins recently.

PEON: Me, neither. The part of religion that really appeals to the common man, I'm starting to think, is the ability to be free of your soul-crushing routine.
LACKEY: That's one constant of human history.

PEON: Soul-crushing routines are the foundation of civilization, when you get right down to it.
LACKEY: I could strip off my clothes, start dancing the hopak, then run into that Charley Burger across the street and rub breakfast sandwiches all over my body. But I won't. Because my job is a small but vital cog in the great machine that is the economy of AO.

PEON: You always say your job is a colossally irrelevant joke that could be done by a diuretic orangutan and nobody would notice the difference if you just quit showing up.
LACKEY: Well, yes. But if I quit my job and went around enjoying myself, eventually people who did something important would get jealous and do the same thing, and then things really would go to hell in a handbasket.

PEON: Misery loves company.
LACKEY: Misery requires it, actually.

Relief was the greatest feeling in the world for Sanders.

He was relieved that his team had started to gel together and had pulled out a 4-1 win against Vanersholm in front of the home crowd. Augustine continued his scoring with a header in the 18th minute followed by one for Gavin Barnsley in the 23rd, one for Killian in the 25th and the last one from Kun-woo in the 44th minute. Vanersholm got a consolation goal in the 83rd minute from Hanna Johnsson. The entire defense looked good, including Yasif, and the team was passing well and obviously scoring.

Another thing he was relieved for was not having to change the formation or players. He would have much greater anxiety if he had to coach a team in a different formation. The last time he had done that, FC Virtus had lost in the last game of the season and lost the championship early in his career. But that was the past so no need to dwell on that, he thought to himself.

He noticed the folders beside him on the couch and started reading through it: it was a file on Darvale, Zenic’s upcoming opponent. First off, Darvale were fellow participants of the 55th Baptism of Fire, which was a bit nice to see that others from that tournament were playing well meaning Zenic wasn’t the only one left to carry the torch of that ‘class’ so to speak. Darvale were also currently leading the group after being up on Ko-oren based on tiebreakers. They had the highest goal differential in the group as well with a +4. They were also a very similar team in terms of their formation, a 4-4-2, and their aggressiveness.

Another tough game, another day in the life of an anxiety filled manager.

History: Part II
During the Middle Ages the Icemark had a very violent history. Of the eleven monarchs during this period only four suffered deaths unrelated to war. In the 6th century Greek tribal refuges called the Hippolytes emigrated into the Icemark to escape war in their own land. The Hippolytes were from the southern continent and had fought a war for years with eastern invaders before travelling north into the Icemark to find peace. They didn't get any upon arrival though.

Battle With The Hippolytes
There was long fierce war between the Hippolytes and Icemarkans, but eventually a truce was signed. The terms of the truce was was the monarch of that time, King Theobad would grant some land to the Hippolytes and allow their leader, Queen Athenestra to govern her own people as long as in return she would agree to acknowledge the Icemark's ruler as her overlord. The Hippolytes settled in a province to the north of the country that would become to be known as Hipolyta. The Hippolytes would eventually go on to become the Icemark's most loyal ally.
In the 8th century another tribe of foreign people descended upon the Icemark. These were the Zoroastrians who had fled persecution in their homeland far to the east. Their was no war with these people, and the king of the time offered them sanctuary. They settled in the capital, Frostmarris and immediately the people of the Icemark reaped the benefits, thanks to the Zoroastraian's skills as merchants and traders.
The 9th century saw the first and only ever monarch to be deposed. King Theobold had introduced record taxes so was already highly unpopular, but when he launched a nationwide ban on alcohol it was too much for the populace to contend with. Riots and revolts spread across the country from the peasants, and the nobles were gathering their own private armies to force him off his throne. In the end to avoid any more strife the council of elders, known as the Wittingast stripped King Theobold of all his titles and sent him into exile.

Battle Of Sea Haven
Hakon Lindenshield, a powerful baron was appointed as the next King and his line still rules to this day. In the late 9th century his son Edward Lindenshield became king after he died of fever. Edward's reign only lasted a couple of years though as he was killed in the Battle Of The Northern Plains when the Icemark was invaded by the people of Articus, a nation ever further north than the Icemark. Edward's younger brother, Redrought would inherit the throne. King Redrought would make an alliance with the Hippolytes and together they would drive off the invaders at the Battle of the Wolfrock's. King Redrought would marry the youngest daughter of the Hippolytes thus cementing the bond between the two royal houses forever.
During King Redrought's reign piracy was a major threat to the Icemark. King Redrought would have to fend off an invasion by a force of Corsairs and Buccaneers at the Battle of Sea Haven. Redrought's reign would come to an end when he died in the first battle of The Great War when the Roman Empire invaded.

The Great War
His successor Queen Thirrin would make an alliance with the countries former enemies of Articus to defeat the Roman Forces. Twenty years later the Romans would inavade again in the second Great War. This time Queen Thirrin would send her son to gather allies from the land of the Ottomons to help them defeat the Roman Forces.

War Against The Mongols
Queen Thirrin would a couple of years later find herself teaming up with the Romans when a new threat of Mongol Invaders appeared. Her army would help defend the city of Rome, and defeat the Mongols. Her daughter would marry into Roman nobilty to seal an alliance between the two realms.
After Queen Thirrin passed away peacefully her daughter Queen Cressida took the throne. Queen Cressida and her successors led the Icemark through a prolonged period of peace and prosperity. At least until the modern age dawned...
