WELCOME TO THE SIXTEENTH REGIONAL CUP, HOSTED BY VENECO! - BEM-VINDO AO COPA REGIONAL XVI, HOSPEDADO PELO VENÉCA!

The Federative Republic of Veneco is entering it's seventh Regional Cup, and we are extremely proud to be able to host the two best football countries in the whole of Zurope this year at the National Stadium (Stadia Nationalo) to name the champion of the sixteenth Regional Cup, and the best country in Zurope. Veneco hasn't been the most successful football nation in Zurope since our first entry in 2001, but we have managed to reach the semi-finals stage which we accomplished in our most successful tournament - 2007. However, the Venecan national football team is hoping to win the championship this year, and to make a name for ourselves. We are also honored to have been chosen to host this coveted tournament.

Since mid-May, the streets of Veneco have been decorated with the Venecan national colors and thousands upon thousands of Venecan flags to celebrate the fact that Veneco is hosting the 2014 Regional Cup. Some Venecan football supporters, and also a lot of the national team's players have dubbed this year's competition the Go Green, Blue and Gold! or in Portuguese: Ir Verde, Azul e Ouro!. From the Federative Republic of Veneco to all football fans in Zurope: get ready for a celebration in green, blue and gold!

This is the thread for posting your role-plays, whether they may be newspaper articles, interviews with players and managers, or anything to do with the tournament. Information regarding the tournament like the schedule, group draws, and any other things deemed necessary or important by the hosts will be posted.

The US national team qualifies for the Regional Cup XVI

Following qualification matches in Group C alongside Hedgy (4-0), Cahrolle (2-0) and Pzetrovlaskia (5-1), the United States national team qualified for the Regional Cup XVI in Veneco at the top of their group holding the maximum nine points.

Hedgy: The first game of tournament qualification for the United States was against Hedgy. For the first ten minutes, the game was all level at 0-0, when a through ball from Reuben Pazhkelazo gave Lewis Gïll the perfect chance to open the scoring, which he did with a beautiful diving header in the eighteen-yard box. The next goal came in the fortieth minute, when Däko was fouled in the Hedgish box and Lewis Gïll got his second goal from the first penalty of the game. Twelve seconds after the whistle to start the second-half sounded, Däko sprinted with the ball and scored from outside the box to make it 3-0. Just when the Hedgish supporters thought it couldn't get any worse, Pazhkelazo scored a free-kick from outside the box to finish the game at 4-0.

Cahrolle: Cahrolle were Zitru's second opponents in qualification, and the Stars and Stripes defeated them a strong 2-0 with goals coming from Däko and Dirk Kaïs in the second-half. The first-half was a mix of near-misses, excellent saves and corners while both sets of players struggled to score. After fierce half-time talks with the head coach, Dako Redfield, the United States opened the scoring with a Pazhkelazo strike coming from a Däko corner in the sixty-fifth minute. The second goal was a beautiful cross into the eighteen-yard box by Lewis Gïll in the eighty-second minute, followed by an excellent left-footed strike from Kaïs to make it 2-0 and for the Zitrans to come out on top.

Pzetrovlaskia: The final opponents in qualification were Pzetrovlaskia, who played strongly against Cahrolle and Hedgy, but embarrassingly lost all three points in a 5-1 defeat to Zitru. The first-half was excellent, with a Pzetrovlaskian opener and three Zitran goals. The Pzetrovlaskian strike was brilliant, coming from a corner, but Lewis Gïll's equalizer in the fourteenth minute was even better. Once the Zitrans got ahead by two goals after a beautiful second goal from Kazern and a Däko free-kick, the Pzetrovlaskians almost seemed to stop playing. The first-half ended 3-1. The second-half started calmly for the Zitrans, as they dominated the possession, until Araadel broke into a sprint and scored the fourth Zitran goal of the game. Thomas Kaar finished the game in the eighty-ninth minute with a wonderful eighteen-yard box strike to end the game at 5-1.

UNA VEZ más, la selección española se ha clasificado para la Copa Regional. El equipo, el entrenador y el gerente son todos más que encantados de que se las han arreglado para tener derecho a su decimosexta Copa Regional consecutivo. El entrenador, Vicente del Bosque, cree que España va a tener una ventaja sobre sus oponentes en Veneco porque cree que han sido entrenador durante más tiempo y han estado trabajando más duro que cualquiera de los otros países calificados como Rykuria, Estados Unidos o incluso Veneca sí mismos.

Del Bosque dijo: "Definitivamente creo que los niños se desempeñan mejor que sus oponentes en el torneo, especialmente una vez que llegar a la final de 16, ya que entonces tendrán aún más la experiencia del tiempo y el clima Venecaño." AVANTIA RETURNS FOR REGIONAL CUP GLORY

The Avantian national team are returning to the Regional Cup in its sixteenth edition to gain vengeance. The boys are hoping to win the competition this year, since the last time Avantia won the Regional Cup was back in 2009 after beating Zitru's strong team 2-1 after extra time. Winning is looking hopeful this year, after the way the team cruised through the qualification stages, conceding only one goal and scoring a grand total of seven, an excellent result for the boys.

Avantia had a decently matched group for the qualifiers, with old rivals the Legenlands, plus Palmbukia and The Swiss Empire all being present. With three wins over the Legenlands (1-0), Palmbukia (3-0) and The Swiss Empire (3-1), the Avantian boys returned home after the winter qualifications with all nine points, topping their group. The Legenlands came out second, also qualifying, beating The Swiss Empire (3-1) and Palmbukia (3-0), despite losing 1-0 to Avantia.

With the group draw coming up this Wednesday, and the start of the competition being only days away, the team are cramming in some extra practice and training. Mario Götze, one of the team’s forwards, said: "People think we’re crazy because we are training when there are only basically five days until the competition begins. But, we won’t know what group we’re in until Wednesday, and we could be in Group A playing one of the first games of the competition, so that extra few days of practice could help us."

Every year before the Regional Cup and the Regional B-Cup begin, the Union of Regional Football Associations (URFA) organizes a pre-tournament friendly between the favorites of each of the tournaments. This year's favorites are: Zitru (Regional Cup) and Teremult (Regional B-Cup).

The Zitrans defeated the Teremultese in Veneco on Monday, June 23, 2014 by four goals to one. The Zitran goals came from a Dirk Kaïs left-foot shot, Jaden Araädel's beautiful strike from outside the eighteen yard box and two from Lewis Gïll, while the Teremultese goal came from a Yénier Márquez header after an Ariel Martínez corner. The Destiny Airlines Man of the Match was Dirk Kaïs.

United States 4-1 Teremult

The US are the favorites to win the Regional Cup this year, and they thrashed opponents Teremult - favorites of the Regional B-Cup - last night in the annual Pre-Tournament Friendly: 4-1. It looks like this competition will be one to remember among Zitran fans and players alike.

The game kicked-off in the Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro at 3PM yesterday, with thousands of Zitran and Teremultese soccer supporters piling into the stadium to see the two regional favorites face-off in a friendly game. The first-half was all for Zitru, dominating passing and possession. The first two goals came from Dirk Kaïs in the twelfth minute, and Lewis Gïll in the thirty-first minute - both of them being excellent strikes with spectacular control and focus from both Kaïs and Lewis Gïll. Manager Dako Redfield said the two were a gift from God to him as players in the national team.

Already losing by two goals, the Teremultese side had to come back in the second-half before the Zitrans got further ahead. And Yénier Márquez did just that for his country, heading the ball past Ziener from Ariel Martínez’s brilliant corner in the fiftieth minute. Despite losing this goal that could’ve been the one thing to set Teremult ahead, the Zitrans pulled back in the sixty-fourth when Lewis Gïll scored a free-kick outside of Teremult’s box. The Teremultese knew it was over by then, but to make things worse for them, Jaden Araädel scored a beautiful goal from outside of the Teremultese eighteen-yard box, when Kaïs crossed it down.

In an interview with NBC Sports, Zitran forward Däko said, “It was an excellent game for both sides I must say, but especially for the US. Although I may sound biased, I do think we deserved to win the game with the focus, domination and control that all of the players provided. Kaïs done excellent to win the man of the match trophy, and I am very proud of him as a teammate, and I’m sure the others think so too. We definitely played very well today, and I’m sure we’ll do just as good or even better in the tournament. I also wish Teremult plenty of luck for the Regional B-Cup that they’ve been name as favorites to win.”

RYKURIAN NATIONAL TEAM DRAWS FLYNNERANE, AVANTIA AND IMYAHISTAN IN THE GROUP OF DEATH OF THE REGIONAL CUP XVI. AFTER PLAYING FRIENDLIES AGAINST TWO OF THEIR FUTURE OPPONENTS, THE CURRENT THOUGHTS ARE THAT RYKURIA COULD SEE AN EARLY EXIT TO THE COMPETITION. ONLY TIME WILL TELL IF THAT RUMOR IS IN FACT TRUE.

THE Rykurian national team were looking forward to a great competition this year, but their hopes were crushed earlier today when they drew Flynnerane, Avantia and Imyahistan - three spectacular teams in terms of regional football. Last year the team were let off with a slightly easier group, competing against Flynnerane, Plaizh Avantia and Narpoom, winning a game, drawing a game and losing a game, placing second with four points in total, plus scoring four goals. The Kutch topped the table, however, with all nine points, and they are very likely to do that again this year.

Rykuria played four friendlies prior to the qualifying stages of the cup. The first was against Malota, which the team won 5-0 quite easily. However, the second and third were against Avantia and Flynnerane, who Rykuria had faced on previous occasions and lost to. After ninety minutes of near misses, excellent saves and nail-biting tension, Rykuria drew 0-0 with Avantia. The Kutch were not as merciful, as after a relaxing game against Skullray, which Flynnerane won 4-0, the Blues visited Rykuria in Paris and won 2-1. Imyahistan were not one of the friendly games played, but Rykuria faced them in the quarter finals of the Regional Cup XIII and won 3-2 after extra time - which proves this group could be very difficult.

VENECO FACES ZITRU, ISOKALO AND GERELIA IN GROUP A OF THE REGIONAL CUP XVI

It’s that time of year again - time for the Regional Cup! Veneco, its people and its football team are more than honored to be hosting this year’s competition. We’ll surely be seeing some top-class football this summer, with Veneco set to play one of Zurope’s best teams - the United States of Zitru. Along with us in Group A are Isokalo and Gerelia, two not-so-successful Zuropean countries who have had significant Regional Cup experience. However, the team’s main focus is on the Isokalo game this Saturday, which will decide how Veneco are to begin their Regional Cup campaign.

This year is going to be a nerve-racking and an emotional journey - like every year. It’s heartbreaking when your home country is defeated any point in the tournament, but some of us are lucky to see our home countries become the Champions of Zurope and the best football country in the region. The current spot is held by Nakyrozia who won 1-0 against Zitru in last year’s final, with the tournament being jointly hosted by Nakyrozia and Rykuria. The Zitrans said that they’re aiming to win this year, but then again, the Kutch and the Legenese and the Avantians, and pretty much everyone said that. However, Dako Redfield, Zitru’s manager this edition, said he was being more than serious.

Before each tournament, between each tournament and after each tournament there are a number of friendly matches. The first being the Pre-Qualification Friendlies between all nations in Zurope - each nation is drawn from a pot to play another nation; the second being the Pre-Tournament Friendly, which was between Zitru and Teremult this year, with the Zitrans winning 4-1 quite easily. The third are dubbed the Wooden Spoon Friendlies, were the countries who placed bottom of their group play each other. And the final match is after both the Cup and the B-Cup, between the winners of each competition. After that, we can only say one thing: good luck everyone!

United States 3-0 Gerelia

Association football fans all over the United States and those visiting Veneco for the competition will be celebrating the United States’ 3-0 victory over their main rivals, Gerelia, in both teams’ opening game of the Regional Cup XVI. Dako Redfield says he is more than proud of his team after their all-round perfect performance.

The whole ninety-minutes of the spectacular game against Gerelia was a wonderful show of classic Zitran soccer skill up against their main sports rivals, Gerelia. There were three goals in total for the whole game, all of them going straight past Gerelian goalkeeper Beram Fabregas, to secure a comfortable 3-0 win for the Stars and Stripes. Forward Däko, center-midfielder Kaïs and forward Lewis Gïll were the goalscorers for the US, and among them young Kaïs was named the Destiny Airlines Man of the Match - which he thought he didn’t deserve despite his spectacular goal and strong efforts to help his country win.

The first goal came in the fourteenth minute when Kaïs was challenged two meters outside of the Gerelian box by defender Sergio Romaro. Däko took the free-kick and scored from a magnificent left foot strike which soared well above stopper Fabregas’ head. The second goal, after Gerelia’s defense played excellent to deny the Zitran forwards any goals, came when Lewis Gïll crossed the ball into the eighteen yard box for Kaïs to head the ball past Fabregas. After half-time, Lewis Gïll scored the third goal in the seventieth minute to secure Zitru’s victory when he sprinted down the right wing and struck with his right foot to put the ball into the top left corner of the goal.

And they’ve done it again! The United States national team faced the hosts of this year’s Regional Cup, Veneco, and defeated them 5-0. The players said it will remain one of the most enjoyable games they’ve ever played on a regional level.

The line-up consisted of: Zienen; Adrïn, Rezevik, Müller, Kazern; Pazhkelazo, Araädel, Kaïs, Maranö; Lewis Gïll; Däko - with two goals from Lewis Gïll, one from Kaïs, one from Rezevik and a final from Maranö. Forward Däko said, “The Venecans played excellently, and I think they played as well as we did and they deserved to win it, but I think we played better both offense and defense. Lewis’ goals were both excellent, and he deserved to win the Man of the Match award although he didn’t.”

The first goal came in the thirty-second minute when Dako Zienen drop-kicked the ball up to Dirk Kaïs who ran past the Venecan defenders, par one, and passed to Lewis Gïll who chipped the ball above Fraser Winches to open the scoring. The second goal was excellent. Kaïs crossed the ball into the eighteen-yard box from a corner and Lewis Gïll headed it past Winches to make it 2-0 to the Stars and Stripes. Flynnerane Look Set to Place Second

The Kutch media and football fans all over Flynnerane, and even media from the host nation were sure that Flynnerane would top Group D - this edition’s group of death. While Flynnerane are currently second only behind Avantia, the team look set to place second and make it into the knockout stages where so far they will be facing the Legenlands in their quarter final showdown if all stays the same.

With the 2-0 defeat to rivals Avantia being the only slip-up with one game left to go, Kutch supporters are entirely optimistic about the national team winning the cup this year. “I’m positive that we’ll beat Imyahistan tomorrow, three maybe four-nil - and I know we’ll make it into the quarter finals. I’m sure we can win the cup this year, we’ve just got to work for it and act like we deserve to win.” said a Flynnerane supporter who was in Veneco for the Regional Cup.

The Stars and Stripes swept the Portuguese aside in Friday’s Quarter Final clash. Both goals came in the second half from Lewis Gïll’s two excellent strikes which beat Patrício and secured the United States’ place in the Semi Final against Nakyrozia.

“The game was good, but it wasn’t our best performance in the tournament. I know we could’ve played much better, but we relaxed a little too much. If the boys worked a little harder, we could have left with a three or four-nil win.” said United States head coach, Dako Redfield. Midfielder Reuben Pazhkelazo agreed, “Redfield is completely correct. I walked onto the pitch certain that we’d win, so I had more of a relaxed attitude than a fighting attitude. We definitely could’ve scored another goal or two if we were more focused.”

The game started off slowly, with a couple of efforts going off target for Portugol’s Cristiano Ronaldo, while United States midfielders Dirk Kaïs and Jaden Araädel seeing efforts saved by Portuguese goalkeeper, Patrício. Two yellow cards were awarded in the first half, one to Adrïn for a risky challenge on Nani, and one to Pepe for a slide tackle on Pazhkelazo. The second half was much more action-packed, with a header scored by Lewis Gïll from Kaïs’ fiftieth minute corner, and then an eighteen yard strike to mark Lewis Gïll’s second of the day in the seventieth minute. It’s over. Flynnerane’s dream of Regional Cup glory has been lost, lost to the Legenlands in tonight’s Quarter Final clash. With a seventy-fourth minute goal from Robin van Persie cruising straight past Tim Howard, the Legenese won, dominating the final fifteen minutes of the game. The team were heartbroken, and they ensured Kutch football supporters that if they’re invited to participate in this year’s Golden Cup, they’ll win it for them - and for the head coach, Jurgen Klinsmann.

OOC: I am using my phone to post this so it’s pretty bad RP quality. If Flynnerane is invited into the Golden Cup, RP quality will most likely be better.

AVANTIA 1-2 UNITED STATES

The Avantian national team had one of the best Regional Cups they've ever participated in, excluding the 2013 edition in which the team won. After coming out on top of Group D, this year's Group of Death, with two 2-0 wins - one over Rykuria and one over group favorites Flynnerane, and a 3-1 victory over Imyahistan, international media had favorited the Avantians to win the Final against the United States. The US also had an excellent Regional Cup, conceding just 1 goal in their five matches (excluding the Final). They topped Group A, opening with a 3-0 victory over Gerelia, then overcoming hosts Veneco 2-0, before dismantling the Isokalonians 3-0 in their final group game.

Let's take a look back to the Regional Cup XV, co-hosted by Nakyrozia and Rykuria. The Avantians opened decently, defeating Cahrolle 1-0 in Rykuria, then beating regional rivals the Legenlands 1-0, too. To end their group stage, Avantia defeated Veneco an astonishing 3-0. While Avantia had a much harder group (that cup's Group of Death), the United States performed much better on the 'goal side' of things, opening with an excellent 5-0 victory over Palmbukia in Nakyrozia. They then went on to beat co-hosts Nakyrozia 1-0, before they finalized their group stage with a 3-1 victory over Gaamorreja.

The Regional Cup XV saw 7 of Zurope's footballing giants, plus lesser-known Imyahistan, compete for a spot in the semi-finals. The US were first, up against Imyahistan. The Zitrans overcame their weaker opponents, defeating them 2-0 with their best player, Lewis Gill, out on injury. Avantia faced co-hosts Rykuria, and beat them 2-1 after 120 minutes of a nail-biting 1-1 draw. Both went on to the semis. Again, the US were up first for their match, defeating co-hosts Nakyrozia 2-1, while Avantia narrowly defeated Flynnerane 1-0. It was time for the final - and both countries were certainly more than ready. It was a tough game, and at the end of 90 minutes it was all tied at 0-0, despite the Zitrans proving to be the better side. After 116 minutes of extra-time, Avantia's Thomas Muller pulled the winner to lead Avantia to a 1-0 victory - and another Regional Cup.

However, the Regional Cup XVI saw 8 of Zurope's greatest footballing nations contesting for the semi-finals. The US were drawn against Portugol, and easily beat them 2-0, while Avantia drew Cahrolle and also easily beat them 2-0. In the semis, the US were up against the team they faced most in last year's cup - Nakyrozia. It was a tough game, but the Zitrans came out on top winning 2-1. Meanwhile, Avantia drew long-time rivals the Legenlands, and only just won 2-1 after a period of extra time.

It was time for the Final. Avantia were favorited to beat the United States by Avantian, Venecan and other Zuropean media, while the Zitran, Gerelian, Mutenese and Kutch media backed the US. Avantia opened the scoring with Mesut Ozil, who put the team ahead 1-0 in the thirtieth minute. At half-time the score remained the same. However, Zitran midfielder Kais was fouled just past the halfway line, which resulted in a Zitran free-kick. Jaden Araadel took the kick, and Lewis Gill finished it with a fantastic header to make the score 1-1. Lewis Gill struck again, in the seventy-eighth minute, to end it all and to see the US take a 2-1 victory and win their sixth Regional Cup. Well done, Zitru!
