The old ways were best!

Original nation behind Nephara. New Sideburn now symbolises an ideal, rather than a nation.

HOST INFORMATION

A Brief Summary
New Sideburn is a glorious free state, remarkable for its personal freedoms, progressive social policy and acceptance of casual violence. It holds a population of around 88 million, primarily centred in the cities. Its residents primarily speak English, and most are also fluent in German.

Transportation and Accommodation
Your teams will have access to a range of hotels, and while the Sideburnese don't really have all that many particularly snobbish hotels, you will easily be able to find ones with a clean, serviceable and competent aesthetic. All teams will be provided with buses, and the taxi system is also more than adequate to shuttle your teams across the land.

Currency
The currency of New Sideburn is the Pound Taurine (or simply the pound) - currently, it compares strongly to most other currencies, and the economy is in good shape. While notes have entered the spectrum, every denomination of money comes in coins as well. The largest of these, the 100-pound coin, is easily the size of a man's palm, and has been used more than once as a murder weapon.

The Host Cities
All regional capitals - barring Brinemouth, due to the flooding - will host matches in the best football stadiums in the area, much to the chagrin of their Premiership teams.

SABREFELL
Sabrefell, the largest city and capital, shall host the first two groups of the tournament. Once a castle, it's now extended to a large, prosperous city. Many of the fortifications from its history still stand today, and it has rather the feeling of having expanded around, rather than through them. Group A's matches are in the east of the city, Group B's in the west.

Group A Stadia
First listed match - The Barbarossa (72,000)
Second listed match - The Scythes (29,500)

Group B Stadia
First listed match - Gargoyle’s Court (53,000)
Second listed match - Rookridge (42,000)

TREASON
The extremely bitter former capital of New Sideburn, located north and with a strong German community. Its name stems from the democratic revolution that started here and spread through the entire country, leading to the foundation of the nation. It's also the largest supporter of rugby in the country, the only city with two teams, and one of them, Treason Stallions, is the strongest by a short distance. It will host Group C's games.

Group C Stadia
First listed match - The Gauntlet (65,000)
Second listed match - Westcroft (28,000)

CRISISBLESS
The capital of commerce in New Sideburn - with a somewhat dour urban east, but the west is a vibrant hotbed of culture. West Crisisbless is the home of theatre, and indeed glamour, in the nation. It will host Group D.

Group D Stadia
First listed match - Godswatch (63,000)
Second listed match - Byron Road (33,000)

VERMILLION
A spotless, seemingly crime-free city. Rumoured this is largely because kingpins run things behind the scenes - rumours unconfirmed, but believed by most. Either way, you won't have to worry about it. Will host Group E.

Group E Stadia
First listed match - The Iron Hill (49,500)
Second listed match - Knightsgrave (43,000)

MAXIMUM
A northern industrial giant, Maximum has a large, dense population and grey skies. Despite a reputation for dreariness, the people themselves have a reputation as hearty folk who wear their hearts on their sleeves. The stereotype seems to suggest you want mates from there, but never in your life to visit. Will host Group F.

Group F Stadia
First listed match - Ludd’s Hammer (59,000)
Second listed match - Griffindon (36,000)

CHENOWORTH
Chenoworth is generally the most forgettable of the regional capitals, barring a reputation for harbouring New Sideburn's mercifully tiny yuppie population. For better or worse, it seems to have defined itself around its universities - it has the youngest and best-educated population of any city in New Sideburn. Will host Group G.

Group G Stadia
First listed match - Slatefield (40,000)
Second listed match - The Keel (35,000)

CRANEQUIN
The most culturally-rich city in New Sideburn, despite not really being a force in rugby. Or football, for that matter. The smallest of the host cities, but likely the most vibrant, and the home of the Sideburnese Antipope. Will host Group H.

Group H Stadia
First listed match - Ebony Lane (48,000)
Second listed match - Claringstone (18,000)

Any Questions?
Please, feel free to ask.

United Eastedge National Rugby Team
Rugby League World Cup 13 Roster

Rugby in United Eastedge is minor btu growing sport. It has a stronger following with students from the east of the country and there are about 300,000 registered players. The major governing body that is in charge of schedule everything in rugby sense is the United Eastedge Rugby Association (UERA). It is the first international rugby competition in which United Eastedge will be participating coached by William Ohye and they are in the Group F sharing it with Darmen, Estope, Estenia, and Electrum.

Style: -3,5
Captain: Thiago Menezes
Nickname: Greenblues, Dragonflies
Team colors: Green, Blue

Notes: The team plays defensive, yet still likes to gamble sometimes. They will do everything to win - except cheat (that is, as long as the opponent does not cheat either). While the team sometimes does something unexpected, they are more likely to wait a little, where possible. The players are not likely to get a card: they do not play violently or even remotely physical or rough. Rugby League is on par with Rugby Union in terms of popularity in Ko-oren. Both are sports more often played in the south of the country (with the large English speaking territory in Arelothun state favoring Union over League, and the French and the Portuguese favoring League over Union).

The domestic league is world-class, and this puts the players under some stress. Their Union counterparts have won the Seasogs repeatedly and even the RUWC, and League owns the IRLCC but has almost no history in the RLWC. In fact, this is just the second time a team has been put together. Anyway, the team is pretty optimistic and almost arrogant.

The Painted Warriors of Paradystopia

(The Kits; Home on the left, Away on the right.)

(note: One of the first coaches of the Painted Warriors; Joshua Pendl, was a known eccentric. A particular quirk of his was an almost pathological triskaidekaphobia. The Greater Valhallan Federation of Polar Islandstates Rugby League Team
ImageImageImage

Rugby league is the smaller of the two rugby disciplines played in the Federation, but the reformed national league has gone from strength to strength since reorganisation to turn it into a match played between states. The fans are keen, the players are passionate, and as two-time champions in the past they will be looking to make good progress here. Players are predominantly chosen from the strongest states in the nation, with the states of Landt Sibir and Northbrook dominating.

For those who RP a domestic league championship in more detail than I do, all of the domestic-based players are in the shop window should you be interested.

Sadly I have to announce that I will not be RPing. Prior RL commitments coupled with unforeseen circumstances have left me unable to sustain an active RP for the RLWC. Profound apologies to the host and all those competing, especially those in my pool. Good luck to you all.

Rugby League World Cup Preview

New Sideburn has brought the Rugby League World Cup to Esportiva. Teams from 40 nations have entered the 13th edition of the Rugby League World Cup, all of them seeking to win the Rugby League World Cup. Takahashi-Sama's Taiyouese National Team will be among them, once again. They will attempt to improve upon their Round of 16 performance from last time and show the quality of Taiyouese rugby.

Takahashi-Sama declined to make any changes to his squad for this Rugby League World Cup. They will face 4 group stage opponents. Among them is Neu Engollon, a quarterfinalist at each of the last 2 Rugby League World Cups. Also in the group is the Fair Republic, who competed in the last Rugby League World Cup and failed to score a single try in 3 matches. They will also face Rugby League World Cup young lions from the Serbian Orthodox Church and Inuitland. As of this writing, none of them have officially released a roster.

The Serbian Orthodox Church will be first for Takahashi-Sama's team, followed by the Fair Republic and Inuitland. Neu Engollon will be their 4th opponent. Then, they will have a bye on the 5th and final matchday of the group stage. Then, the 2 teams that finished on top of each group will advance to the Round of 16. From there, it will be single elimination until one team proves that they are the best by defeating every opponent in their path and becoming the Rugby League World Cup champions.

According to the experts that produce the world rankings, Polar Islandstates is currently the favorite to win the Rugby League World Cup. Uitbregen, formerly Cyborg Holland, is second, followed by the defending champions from Hutanjia and the team from Saugeais. Neu Engollon is considered the 5th best team in the world at the moment. However, the matches are played on the pitch, not on paper. If they were played on paper, Hutanjia would not have won the last Rugby League World Cup while they were considered the 9th best team in the tournament by those same experts, in a tournament where only 13 national teams had previously participated in a Rugby League World Cup. This shows that nothing can be taken for granted in New Sideburn.

Bryan Sheehan gently placed his spoon down into his ball, leaned back in his chair and surveyed the scene across the room. He also finally did what he'd been waiting several days to do. Draw breath. As so often seemed to be the case in rugby league's organisational affairs the whole thing felt somewhat rushed. It had been barely two weeks since the ARL had announced that Ancharmunn would return to the Rugby League World Cup and in that time New Sideburn had been decided upon as the host nation, Sheehan had been given the Charmunnry coaching job and a launch gala rolled into the tournament draw had been rolled into a single event.

It was here, within a large dining room at what had to be one of the plushest hotels in Sabrefell that the great and good of international rugby league found themselves digesting the news of who would be playing, as well as the lemon tarts that had been served up for dessert. Sheehan had already scanned the room for the representatives of the Licentian Isles, Jeckland, Democratic States of Fenbar and Yttribia and made plans to introduce himself to Ancharmunn's fellow groupmates.

Although hemanaged to kill some time placing the Yttribian delegation tucked away in a corner, the thought of approaching the Licentian delegation gave him a certain amount of trepidation. Not because they happened to be just a place below Ancharmunn in the rankings, but at the reception they'd give. Indeed a lot of Sheehan's nervousness about the whole endeavour of leading Ancharmunn into the tournament centred around how well the country would be received by the rugby league community.

He'd had it in his mind that Ancharmunn's mysterious desertion of the previous tournament would have stuck in the minds. The last that had been seen of Ancharmunn's coaching and administrative staff then had been after their group stage victory over Saintland. When the team failed to show for a knockout fixture against Cyborg Holland it spelt serious repercussions for Charmunnry rugby league. The NSRB had suspended the country's rugby league membership and frozen prize money gained from the 12th Rugby League World Cup, whilst those that didn't vanish into the Darmeni night had returned to the Vatmark in shame. With it a once national game had nearly died out, a once cash rich league disbanded and only local leagues keeping the sport alive.

If anyone else remembered that, or was even particularly bothered, then Sheehan couldn't sense it. It perhaps helped that international rugby tournaments tended to have a high turnover of nations. Of the forty or so nations assembled, perhaps only a dozen or so were even in the rankings. The latter three teams in Group B were amongst the newcomers, and perhaps those unaware of the red and green's previous.

That suited Sheehan perfectly fine. He had other problems as well. Even barely a fortnight into the job he was being accused of having selected an overly Ballyfeeaknock-centric squad. It was something he'd acknowledged as a valid criticism, but given the limited time he'd been given, he'd pointed how it made sense for him, as a coach within the Ballyfeeaknock league, to select players from the talent pool he had the most knowledge of.

If Ancharmunn could go through this tournament with their rugby league doing the talking and their biggest controversy being too many players from the capital, rather than discussions of previous no-shows, then it would be something Sheehan would be happy to chalk up as a successful tournament. In one way that was where the rushed nature of the event gladly suited him. It would be just a couple of days now before Ancharmunn opened their tournament against Jeckland and the sooner the likes of the Brugha brothers could get stuck into the Jeckland pack, the better.

League has gone from strength to strength in New Sideburn over the past couple of years, both codes now roughly even. Sadly, the level they are roughly even at is the semi-professional one, but the RFANS are going all-in with this tournament, and hope that these lads will do well enough to manage something special. All ten teams of the Sideburnese league are represented.
Rushden likes his lads to go forward and hit hard. While not bad at the back, the focus is always on attack. The team is, as one might expect from Sideburnese semi-pros, immensely physical but lacking somewhat in technique. Buchan is probably the best of the team, and a couple others might be good enough for professional standard - all would be open to offers.

National Rugby Team of Electrum
National Team for RLWC 13 - Electrum Bolts

Coaching Staff
Kevin Doyle - Coach
Cera McMahon - Assistant Coach

Background of Rugby in Electrum
Rugby is a not-too popular sport in Electrum. It is over shadowed by Aussie Rules Football, where players show their athletic prowess and more, but for 10% or so of the population, leaving in the far North-West, around Argi, Rugby is the dominant code. Nonetheless, to have a balance of team members representing each province of Electrum, the Centralis University Rugby team has also been called up to supply some players from all corners around Electrum. This is to increase awareness about this very strange sport, and to introduce the nation to a new kind of football code.

Match Schedule
Group F: Darmen, Estope, Estenia, United Eastedge, Electrum
MD2: 11th May - Darmen vs Electrum
MD3: 12th May - Estope vs Electrum
MD4: 13th May - United Eastedge vs Electrum
MD5: 14th May - Estenia vs Electrum

Roster
Style Modifier: -3

The team is a hodgepodge selection from the rugby league competition held in Electrum as well as selected Centralis University students who were selected as well. As a result, the team is a mixed of battle hardened veterans as well as players fresh from University and/or have also played in the Ultimate Cup. Those who play for Centralis University have an asterisk next to their name.

The Dalandan, the team's former nickname, are gearing up for their second campaign in the RLWC, after making their out of the Group Stages last campaign. However, the group stages this time will be a tough one, as the Rugby League team will be grouped with no less than the number one team in the field: Polar Islandstates.

What's possible makes the tournament more difficult for the team is that they have to keep their performance high, as they will not play their last game. The schedule released will have the team taking a bye in Matchday 5, where teams could still jockey for position or contend for a spot in the Round of 16.

The team is not panicking though, and during the KPMB's kit release of the non-football kits (Rugby codes, volleyball, etc.), team captain Nickcy Jungao hopes that the team, who will look for a new nickname during the tournament, will advance to the playoffs just like what they did in the past.
