Runner Cup One (Everything Thread)

Postby Chiata » Thu Jan 09, 2014 1:19 pm

Welcome to the Runner Cup One

Image

Hello, you are probably saying "What is the Runner Cup?"
The Runner Cup, short for Runner-up Cup, is a *non WCC sanctioned event that is for nations that did not qualify for the World Cup Proper and the Cup of Harmony.
However, not everyone can waltz right in and start playing in this tournament. There are a few loose qualifications that nations have to meet in order to qualify for the Runner Cup.

*This means it will not boost your KPB.

Qualifications:
Your nation participated in the most recent World Cup(WC 67).
Your nation posted a roster for the most recent World Cup.
Your nation posted at least one RP for the most recent World Cup.
You nation did not qualify for the most recent World Cup Proper.
Your nation did not get invited to the most recent Cup of Harmony (CoH 59).

*Note* These qualifications are not meant to restrict the number of nations that can participate but rather are for picking nations that have made at least some kind of effort.

Procedures:
The Runner Cup begins when the most recent Cup of Harmony has done its group draws.
If a nation meets the above requirements an invitation will be sent to them.
The nations that receive an invitation accept the invitation by either posting a roster on this thread or by telegraming the host saying they accept the invitation.
Groups will be based on number of participants.
Qualifying is a double round-robbin.
A specified number of nations will advance to compete in a 2,4,8,16, or 32 team single elimination tournament. You lose once, your out.
Ranks are based on a modified KPB.
The modified rankings will be called KPBC rankings.*

* regular KPB except for fallowing exceptions:
1/2 of points earned last Runner Cup will be added.
1/4 of points earned two Runner Cups ago will be added.
All points earned for last Runner Cup Playoffs will be added.
1/2 of points earned two Runner Cup Playoffs ago will be added.

Hosting:
I, Chiata, will be hosting the first Runner Cup. If it survives another cycle, then Runner Cup Two will be hosted by Ceni. If the Runner Cup lives on after that, then hosting bids will be opened up.

Scorination:
I will be using Footba11er 1.03. This is a little-known scorinator that can generate scores for all kinds of football (football, american football, rugby, ect...).
I have gotten the hang of this scorinator by scoring friendlies and will use it for this tournament.
The RP bonuses will be accumulative and graded from 0-1, quality above quantity.
RP cutoffs are to be at 9:00 PM EST.
Tie Breakers: Goal Difference, H2H Record, H2H Goal Difference, Better RP Bonus, Playoff

Good luck to all! If you have any questions telegram me.

Helpful map of Chiata: http://www.nationstates.net/nation=chiata/detail=factbook/id=124606

Stadiums:

Gulf Stadium, Villitova

Image

Gulf Stadium is usualy the home field for the Chiata Suns. For the Runner Cup One, Gulf Stadium will be used as the main stadium. The Stadium is built on the coastline of the Gulf of Chiata, hence the name "Gulf Stadium." The stadium can hold up to 60,000 spectaters and is the largest stadium in the Greater Chiata Area, or the Chiata Region. Gulf Stadium also has luxury booths and a jumbo-tron digital scoreboard .

Puma Field, Woodville

Image

Puma Field is the home pitch for Chiata's secondary team, the Chiata Pumas. Puma Field is considerably smaller than Gulf Stadium by size and capacity. Puma Field can only hold up to around 20,000 spectators. The field will be a secondary stadium and will not be used for the final game. Despite its lack of size, Puma Field makes up for it by its history. Puma Field was the first international stadium made in Chiata. Likewise, Chiata's first international match was played there.

They were ready to go.

"It isn't going to help us in the rankings, but we need some practice. Not only that, but I thought it is another chance to play this beloved game."

"Sounds good, Max."

"Yeah, nothing like a game of football."

"I agree. So lets get out there and win that cup. I plan on using our WC 67 roster completely."

"I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I personally enjoy playing football, and even though it means nothing for the KPB, we should do it for club and country."

*Group cheer is heard*

"Now lets get out there and prove ourselves. We are the top ranked team in this tournament, so you know what I, and the FA expect."

"Hardware."

"Exactly."

"And trust me, there is nothing like winning it all, no matter the competition. So lets prove to everyone watching that we are indeed the top group here."

I'm trying out an RP series. This is my first time doing so, so hopefully it wont be too bad.

To the North, We March
(Part 1)

To: The Empire of Deala
From: Chiata

It has come to our attention that your sovereign nation has come under attack by a foreign threat. It is our job, as part of the World Assembly, to try to keep the peace around the world. For this reason, we ask you to allow our convoy of plains to enter your airspace and to attempt to protect you nation from the foreign invaders. Thankyou for your time.

Signed,
Lee Chiata

A small set of squadrons was heading for the western lands Deala, which was under attack from Chiata's rival nation, Carialus. Chiata and Carialus were in a Cold War and wouldn't dare to directly attack each other. Instead, they fought their battles on foreign ground, each side trying to gain some kind of advantage.

On board the 24 carrier planes was the 52nd Airborne Division. The 52nd consisted of 2,400 soldiers split up into 24 different battalions. In each of the carrier planes, one hole battalion was crammed in along with supplies. The common soldier of the 52nd wore a winter BDU and had an automatic rifle, or the Chi A 72. The Chi A 72, commonly called the "Blazer," had clips of 30 rounds and each shot was a three round burst. To continue on the soldiers equipment, each soldier also had a parachute and 100 clips of ammo. If the 52nd got the permission from the nation they were protecting then they would continue. If the nation would decline, then the 52nd would simply turned back.

(OOC: Our gambling system is, well, different)

Tasrailia 1-1 Hicana

The Hicana Storm were ridiculously unfavored in the betting rooms. Word was out that Tasrailia had 85% odds of winning, along with 10% chances at a draw and a mere 5% in favor of a Storm victory.

"Those blippin' elves," many of the older fans that still called the sport "soccer" muttered, hazy cigars in hand.

An elf walked into the room, which sophisticated gambling tech had declared 94% in favor of Tasrailia. The over/under on Hicana goals was 0.5, and not many were taking over.

"Well, look here," said one of the old cigar-smoking gentlemen, who would be diagnosed with severe lung cancer a month later, "one of those elves."

The elf, a younger male, walked into the room and put forty bits on a draw. He then walked over to the over/under table and took the over for twenty-five.

"Psht," said another smoker, "elves. Idiots."

The elf ignored them and sat down at a table to watch.

When the 1-1 draw resulted, the elf collected his large winnings and left. Nobody said a word.

Corastakis, an injured elf on the reserve squad, took out his small cell phone and dialed the man he called "Dr. B".

To the North, We march
(Part 2)

"Big Cat, this is bravo checking in. Over," said carrier plane pilot Russ Fardo. He waited for a reply.

"Bravo, you have been noted. Over," said mission control, or "Big Cat."

"Big Cat, this is gamma checking in. Over," radioed another pilot.

"Gamma, you have been noted. Over."

This continued for all of the 24 planes. Finally they all were checked in.

"Operation Frozen Fish is a go. Proceed as planed. Over," said "Big Fish".

The soldiers began to grow eager. For many, this would be their first combat. Only a few officers had ever fought in an actual war and that was some 20 years ago. Then their thoughts were interrupted by the loud speaker on the plane.

"This is Major Joshua Franklin speaking, your divisional commander. I am hear to brief you on what we are about today. A couple of days ago. Carialus attacked western Deala in hopes of optaining the area's newly discovered oil. Unfortunately for Carialus, the land is OWNED by Deala. This is treated as an act of war, so it is our job, as a WA member nation, to defend nations in need. At this very moment, we are flying over the North Salt Sea and are on route to Deala. We did not come by boat because the water there is beginning to freeze over. Our job for Operation Frozen Fish is to land north of the fighting and then muster together. Once we have gathered we will make a base camp and a fort of sort with trenches and snow huts. Once that is set up, we will go down and flank the enemy. That is all men. God speed!"

Carialus Bugle

The groupings and the schedules have been announced for the Runner Cup! This article will be about Carialus' group. The scheduling will be dealt with in a different article.
Carialus is in Group B along with the countries of Sandwich Territories, Tasrailia, Alexanderburn, and Hicana. In the group, using the KGBC ranks, Carialus is fourth. Now for our experts to explain the Kings' opponents.

Sandwich Territories
Sandwich Territories is the highest ranked team in this tournament. Sadly, they are also in our group. When facing them, expect a draw at best because they are one tough team. In terms of history, the Kings have played Sandwich territories twice in World Cup 66. Unsurprisingly, we lost to them both times, 5-2 and 2-1.

Tasrailia
Tasrailia was at the bottom of pot 2 and are ranked fourth in KPBC ranks. They are a well rounded squad and hard to play against. However, their fatal flaw is that they do not seem to be in the game when they play(OOC: not rping). If Carialus can catch them sleeping then we might be able to sneak in a win.

Alexanderburn
Alexanderburn is only one spot above us in the KPBC ranks. It is in our interests to take that spot. To do this we will have to keep our head in the game. If we do that our games against them could be wide open.

Hicana
Opposite of Sandwich Territories, Hicana is the lowest ranked team in the Runner Cup. Likewise, they will be the one semi-easy team to play. However, no team is to be taken likely, especially after seeing the Weegies @ Polar Islandstates game in World Cup 67.

With that, we bid you good will. Root for the Carialus Kings as they play in the first ever Runner Cup.

La Forêt Pretty Cure: Chapter 8: Exciting! Grandmother's Here!/エキサイティング!お婆さんここにある!/Ekisaitingu! Obāsan Koko ni Aru!
Story
It is January 8, when before she can go to the new playground, Mika hears from her dad that his mom Koasa (小朝) is coming over. There is one problem: she cannot move any of her limbs at all. Mika is tired of having to do stuff for her, especially after Koasa tells her to drive her to the supermarket. So Mika tells Minami, Asami, Isami and Natsuko to cover for her while she's away at the playground.
{Eyecatch: Dodecahedron dice rolled to show the numbers 3 (number of slides in the park) and 5 (number of letters in "Koasa"))
Leo targets Yōta Konoha's Heart Crystal and creates a Vitabot with a wheel from Koasa's wheelchair which traps its target with its wheel by running it over. Mika arrives a little late and defeats the Vitabot with her Pretty Cure Arbor Shoot, thus purifying the Vitabot into the Heart Crystal. After the battle, Koasa truthfully mentions that she has discovered her identities, so Mika suggests to keep it a secret and Koasa becomes a true ally to the Cures. At the end, a mysterious figure is overseeing this celebration while sitting on the roof of a house, eating a jelly-filled donut.
{Preview: Failure! The Winter School Test!/失敗!冬の学校のテスト!/Shippai! Fuyu no gakkō no tesuto!}
Quotes
Mika: Anything else?
Koasa: Nope.
Mika: I'm out of here.
Koasa: Except drive me to the supermarket.
Mika: Of course.
Sypnosis
Mika's grandmother visits for the day, except she can't move any limbs.
Notes
  • This is the first episode since the 2014 Equatoria Junior Soccer Cup's first mention that has nothing to do with the Cup.
  • The mysterious figure will reveal herself to be someone who possibly has something to do with the Pretty Cures' origins.

Alexanderburn continues winless streak, losing to inferior teams

These were the headlines today in Portsmouth after drawing two games against opponents which should have proven themselves easily beatable. Now the national team must face off against the two harder teams, including the Sandwich Islands, which will be an "impossible feat" according to many.

"I just wish we had done away with Kingsley earlier, even if it were 15 January," noted one disappointed fan. "It's not that our statistical averages are that bad compared to average, it's just we're not winning games we should be. In fact, compared to our average, our current KPB rankings would suggest that we surpassed that degree of normalcy a long time ago."

Another long-time supporter of the team, whose name was not originally disclosed due to privacy concerns, said this about the team:
"Right now, we should be sustaining 40% at least, if not 50% wins. Lately [under Kingsley] we've been lucky to hover around 30%. That is the number we were at a few years back. I don't think there is one person here who thinks that the current team is worse off than the original bunch when Kingsley was first promoted. The problem is that after a while, Kingsley's group did not improve while everyone else's did, so in comparison, we appear to be lagging behind, when actually we are just a stagnant body."

This unknown speaker, who subsequently was revealed to be former coach Jan Luis Calciorotti, does not dispute the fact that Kingsley has done a good job, at least in the beginning. However, it is agreed by a number of fans that it is time for this fairly young, and thus inexperienced, coach to move on.

"Who knows where he'll go next," noted one citizen duly. "He could still be playing for the ANFT if you didn't know anything about him but his age. I think it's going to be very hard for him to survive if he moves into club management against teams such as Dundalk. We'll see."

To the North, We March
Part 3

Captain Roy McGusky looked out the window of the carrier plane. The plane was now approaching a large mass of ice and rock. That was Deala, just coming into view on the horizon. Winter was setting in and the ice sheets were beginning to creep down the frozen coast of Deala. Pretty soon, the glaciers will have rapped around Deala and only slow moving Ice Breakers will be able to get through. Also, it was risky business to send planes through the hazy and turbulent air that surrounds Deala. A blizzard could pop up at any moment and engulf the subcontinent. Even as the Chiatan planes approached the desolate country, the winds buffeted the planes and tossed them around.

Roy looked back from the window and looked at the men behind him in the cargo area. None of them had seen any war as of yet. Only a few of the old commanders had been in a war over twenty years ago. Everyone was green here. They were all green troops. Shiny and new; all of them thinking they were bullet proof. That was not the case and Roy new it. No matter what high command told him, Roy's number one goal would be to try to keep everyone alive.

The plane tossed around again and everyone in the cargo hold splattered on the wall to one side. With some grunts, groans, and cursing the soldiers all got back into place. Roy looked out the window again and their squadron of planes was almost over Greenland. "Alright men!" he shouted. "Get your parachutes on! We're approaching the drop zone!"
