I see some ranking numbers next to players, but others that are missing them, including, but not only, mine, that I know should have some rankings (if minimal) through previous ATP sanctioned tournaments. Of course, some players also have some trigrammes next to their names while others don't, so it could just be selective representation there, but not indicative of what was put into the scorinator. I am a bit perplexed and more than worried that this is not the case, though.

Neu Engollon wrote:I get it. There were a lot of gaps between rankings listed next to players, but upon comparing the ranking charts and the groups, we really are just missing a bunch of higher ranked players for this tourney. I was trying to figure out why we had like 1,6, 7, 18 and 27 and nothing in between. Still doesn't explain why a select handful have their trigrams in parenthesis next to them and no one else does. Neu Engollon is NEG, not NEU, btw. Anyway, I stopped caring a couple days back, but just wanted to put you all at ease.

And he doesn't make the list.

Unfortunately, it doesn't because the Olympics are a separate event with different rankings. The number #2 ATP pair at the time last year, Elia and Fia Xal didn't even make the finals, whereas (and this was a big coincidence), my top team of Gredello/Levinsky, which was also on top of the ATP ranks won the women's doubles gold medal event.
It'd be too complicated to fuse the two rankings because of the split genders in the Olympics (for the doubles), and the nation, when signing up for the Olympics, can determine the skill of each player (ie giving 100s and 0s), whereas the ATP takes into account prior performance in the previous year's ATP performances, and is more focused on RP, which is how you do well in the ATP tournaments.

It becomes a bit awkward because these aren't really universal rankings. So if someone was unlucky (like me) and has taken part in none of the qualifying tournaments for the ATP plays some small scale tournament where ATP rankings are used, even though my players are actually quite good, they end up bottom of the pile.

Kannapian International Tennis Open I think is now part of the ATP
