NationStates College Football season 9

Here it is! The ninth edition of NationStates College Football. Here you will find Rosters for your opposition, and all RPs should be posted here too.
Any questions should be posted in the discussion thread, to avoid OOC clutter, please. Failing that, feel free to send a telegram to Osarius or any other conference host.

As is normal between seasons here, there are a couple of changes again, so if you're a returning team, please read carefully. New teams, welcome!

The NSCF procedure is outlined here.

With numbers remaining at thirty-six teams, the league will keep the same six conferences that appeared in season eight: Celestia, Horizon, Mineral, Sequoia, Woodlands and Zephyr.

Each conference will have six teams, and the regular season will be double round-robin, for a total of 10 games. Games will be scorinated three times a week, on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please check your conference for a projected RP cutoff time. Scores will be posted in this thread.

After all ten regular season games, there will be a "Non-Conference week", with each team playing up to three games against opposition from other conferences. These games will not count toward conference championships, but WILL affect playoff seedings. All Non-Conference games must be arranged by the teams playing them, and confirmed by matchday four of the regular season.

The playoff format this season is twelve teams -- conference champions plus the next best four by OSPI, and two selected by the NSCF committee -- in a seeded, four round, single-elimination bracket. Seeds for the playoffs will be determined purely by OSPI, and the higher seed will have home advantage until the final, which will take place at a neutral venue yet to be decided. Any nation can put together a final hosting bid, before the start of Non-Conference week, to be voted on by the NSCF Committee.

In addition to the usual playoff system, there will be the possibility of a small series of "bowl games" prior to the playoffs for teams not reaching the post-season. Proposed bowl games will be listed below, and organising nations will be responsible for sending out invites to eligible teams closer to the time and confirming that the game will take place. There is no obligation to take part in a bowl game. The Pioneer Bowl is a traditional game for the two best performing newcomer teams not in the playoffs, and the NSCF will not recognise any bowl game involving a team with an OSPI below 0.450.

Games are only listed when confirmed by both parties. Only games listed here will be scorinated.
If both you and your opponent have confirmed a game, but it is not listed here, send a TG to NSCF.

Blue matchups denote a potential scheduling clash, and those games will need to be re-confirmed or rescheduled before the deadline, or they will not be included in scorination. Red matchups are those I have taken note of from the discussion thread, and require confirmation, but would otherwise be fine.

Established: 1926
Type: Public
Lord Chancellor: Joszi Tranter
Faculty/Research Staff: 10,400
Undergraduate Students: 62,240
Location: Asysur, Lords Federal University
Area: 39,100 acres

Background

Lords Federal University, sometimes called Federal University, is the national university of the nation of Osur. It is located on Asysur, an island located off of the coast of Osur. Thanks to an error in the University Act, Lords Federal University is a sovereign nation run by the Lord Chancellor of the University, who is appointed by the Lord Protector of Osur.

Lords Federal University was established in 1926 through the University Act. The university was the brainchild of Ulric Cooper, a Senator who hoped to provide low-cost education for the most gifted students that graduated from Osurian high schools each year. As a joke, Cooper slipped in a clause that granted independent sovereignty to Lords Federal University and ceded the island of Asysur to it. However, because of the shoddy quality of politicians during the Machine Age, so named for the political machines that controlled the Senate during the 1920s, this clause went through unnoticed and the bill was passed and not repealed, despite much controversy. In its first year, the University had only 800 students. Since then, it has grown to have over 60,000 students, while maintaining a graduation rate near 94%.

The University is governed by the Lord Chancellor, who is advised by the Deans of the various departments of the University. Lords Federal is a protectorate of Osur and has full military protection from the Osurian military. However, it also contains the National Military Academy of Osur, which is a semi-independent subsidiary of the University. Lords Federal is a co-educational university with a gender ratio of 53 women to 47 men. Discrimination laws are the same as laws present in the Osurian homeland and prevent discrimination based on ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, age, or religion.

The University has excellent schools in almost every subject known to man, but is best known for the Big Five: the schools of Economics, Law, Medicine, Political Science, and Psychology. These schools carry a large amount of sway in the administration of the University and eight out of the nine Lord Chancellors in school history have origins in these schools, with the lone exception being Thierry Brady, who came from outside of the University. The Economics and Political Science departments are particularly prominent, and many graduates from these schools go on to serve as government advisers. The School of Economics is known as a base for Asysurian School Economics, the school of economic thought that has dominated government policy for much of the last thirty years. Influential economists such as Moric Bauduoin, Randolph Kysely, and Kiera Harvey are alumni of the University.

The University is also well known for its athletic programs, the most popular of which is the football team. Students from all schools, including the Military Academy, are eligible to play for teams and many highly-touted prospects are actively recruited from Osur. Athletes are required to meet the rigorous academic standards imposed by University Administration, however, and it is not uncommon for athletes to be suspended for academic ineligibility during the season. Seeing as NSCF occurs during the school vacation period, this will not be a problem during international play.

LFIF Season Overview

Lords Federal Intramural Football (LFIF) is the football league of Federal University. Students are separated by school affiliation and play a single round robin, with the top teams going to the playoffs. There are four bowl games each year: the LFIF Championship between the number 1 and number 2 teams, the Campus Bowl between the number 3 team and the next highest-ranked team who isn't invited to a different bowl, the Science Bowl between the next two highest-ranked teams from a scientific background, and the Humanities Bowl between the next two highest-ranked teams from a humanities background. The LFIF is organized by the Athletics Department.

Regular Season

Economics and Military Academy were the preseason favorites and neither disappointed, with those teams finishing first and second respectively. Engineering finished third behind a very strong defense. Law and Social Sciences finished fourth and fifth with both teams boasting a 13-4 record. Medicine, Psychology, and History rounded out the top eight teams. The regular season MVP was Brad Sykora, the quarterback of Economics, who was a major factor in that teams run to the Championship Game. The Freshman of the Year was Vern Elwood, the fullback on Law who helped that team bruise their way to the Humanities Bowl.

Postseason Invitations:
LFIF Championship: Economics vs Military Academy
Campus Bowl: Engineering vs Medicine
Humanities Bowl: Law vs History
Science Bowl: Social Sciences vs Psychology

Postseason

The bowl games were hotly contested this year. In the first game, Psychology defeated Social Sciences 17-15 on a last second field goal in the Science Bowl. The teams had traded the lead all day but a late interception by Psychology cornerback Louis Monaghan gave the offense good field position with under two minutes remaining. Three plays later, kicker Peter Kolar booted a thirty-three yarder through the uprights to win the game. Psychology was a large underdog in this game, but squeaked through to raise the Science trophy.

In the second game, the Humanities Bowl, History pulled a second upset, holding off a late comeback by Law to win 16-10. The MVP for History was surely wide receiver Denis Fuller, who had seven receptions for 93 yards and one touchdown. The two-pronged running attack of Elwood and Evariste Rosen were able to bring Law back within one score, but an onside kick failed and History iced the clock to emerge victorious.

In the Campus Bowl, heavy favorite Engineering won on a field goal as time expired, defeating Medicine 26-24. Engineering pulled out to a 16-0 lead in the first half, with cornerback Lyle Sawyer returning a punt by John Payton sixty-three yards for a touchdown. Medicine came roaring back in the third quarter, scoring three unanswered touchdowns to go up 21-16. They were never able to put two scores between themselves and Engineering however, and the late kick by Martin Kovac won the game for the Boilermakers.

In the LFIF Championship Game, Economics and the National Military Academy faced off. By far the most represented school on the football team, the Military Academy was a slight favorite, despite finishing behind Economics in the regular season. The Warrior running attack ran helter-skelter over the Economics defense, with running back Hayden Fuller rushing for 124 yards and quarterback Adam Kemp rushing for 106. Brad Sykora had a good game, throwing for two touchdowns to wide receiver Brant Frank. However, it was too little too late for Economics and the Military Academy won the Championship. Fuller was named Championship Game MVP.

Transportation

Seeing as LFU is located on an island, it can be difficult to get to games. There is a small training airport that is reserved for administrators and local dignitaries, as well as the National Military Academy. However, this consists of only hangars, a couple of runways, and a control tower and is not open to commercial flights. For fans traveling to games at LFU, the only way to get to the island is to take a ferry from mainland Osur. Osur is relatively easy to get into, but any foreign substances will be taken at customs. You will be searched before exiting the ferry as well, as some substances, such as alcohol, tobacco, and narcotics, are prohibited on the island, which has stricter rules on controlled substances. Any weapons you are carrying will also be taken. On the island, cars are allowed, but it is nearly impossible to rent one. Therefore, it is suggested that you find lodging near the stadium so that you can walk to the game, or near one of the bus stops that dot the university's campus.

Pulaski Stadium

Image
An aerial view of the stadium and its surrounding facilities

Home of the Lords Federal University Panthers, Pulaski Stadium is fairly small, seating only 22,000 people. With almost three times as many students as that on campus, tickets are extremely hard to get and the 16,000 tickets allocated to students are granted through a lottery system. The stadium has 22 luxury boxes, many of which are reserved for administrators or rented by corporate sponsors. The field surface is real grass, which is kept in pristine condition by the large groundskeeping staff composed of professionals and student volunteers. Inside the stadium, alcohol and tobacco are prohibited, as are weapons. Gambling too is not allowed, although many students run side gambling pools. Students are still known to get rowdy, but campus police are always present to prevent things from getting out of hand.

Coaching Staff

The coaching staff for the Panthers is headed by Melvyn Chance. An offensive pioneer who started out with the Military Academy, Chance is also a professor of military sciences at the Academy. He will be the offensive play caller along with offensive coordinator Brett Norris. Joska Davide will be responsible for organizing the defense and he has proven to be good at that in the LFIF. It will be interesting to see what he can do with higher quality players. Jakob Crewe is the special teams coordinator for the Panthers. One coach to look out for is Quarterbacks Coach Domenic Filep, who has been tapped as the replacement for Norris when he retires, and possible even for Chance when he eventually leaves the game. The rest of the coaching staff is young, but competent, and most have served as high-level coaches in the LFIF.

Offense

The Panthers offense is a traditional ground-and-pound, three yards and a cloud of dust type squad. The base formation is the wishbone, and it all starts with quarterback Brad Sykora. Very athletic, Sykora boasts a pretty good arm, but his legs and game intelligence will be the real game-breaker for this team. He will be handing off to fullback Gobain Savage, or pitching to Hayden Fuller or William Leon. The lone flanker is Chris Lebeau, a 6'5" receiver who is not too fast, but is a big redzone target. Tight end Darren Hartley is mostly there to block in the running game, but he has been known to slip out into the open on play-action passes. The offensive line is undersized, but very quick, and they will use that to their advantage. They are a young unit, with no seniors among the starting five. Ivor Domin and Fabian Byran, both juniors, are a strong anchor on the left side. Zach Porter is the center for the team and is a good leader on the field, even though he is only a sophomore. However, his snaps can get shaky and Sykora is not always able to get a firm handle on the ball. The right side of the line is composed of two freshmen: guard Henry Crawford and tackle Mirek Petit. Petit, the most physically gifted member of the line, is a project. His footwork is shaky at times and he can be outmatched by skill or speed rushers. However, his brute strength is very valuable in the running game and he has enough quickness to seal the edge. The backups for the team are very capable and will be substituted in to keep fresh legs on the field. Mark Forbes is a steady kicker for the team and is deadly from within 40 yards. His range extends to about 55 yards. Porter will be the long snapper and Braden Garfield is the holder.

Defense

The Panthers defense is based on grit, speed, and work ethic. The players are somewhat undersized, but they strive to make up for it through strength training, plus the speed advantage they usually hold over their opponents. The Panthers play a 4-3 defense. Seniors Stewart Domnel and Tom Frigyes anchor the ends of the defensive line. Domnel is one of the best players on the defense and is a classic speed rusher. On most teams, he would play as a stand-up rush linebacker. Frigyes is not as quick, but he is a stalwart against the run. Alex Lakatos and David Skalicky start at defensive tackle. Neither is much of a pass rush threat, but they are smart and know how to get their way to the ball-carrier. Karoly Rorie, Toby Domonkos, and John Shelton start at linebacker. Rorie has a lot of potential as a rush linebacker, but needs to learn to drop back in coverage before he can become an elite linebacker. At 6'3", Domonkos is very good in pass coverage, but he is too slow to cover deep routes. He is good in zone coverage over the middle, however. Shelton is not outstanding in any area, but has no glaring weaknesses either. He will usually cover the running back or fullback if they go out for a pass. Boleslav Smythe and Louis Monaghan, both juniors, will start at cornerback. Neither is a shutdown corner, but both are fast enough to cover most receivers. Smythe is tall for a defensive back (6'1") and has a large vertical leap, so he will cover most number one receivers. Backup cornerback Lyle Sawyer will return punts and kicks for the team. Connor Michaud and Roland Dunai start at the safety positions. Dunai has the talent of a superstar and the speed to support run defense. He will be a player to watch for the Panthers this season. Senior Vaclav Tovaj will be the main punter for the Panthers this year.

Lords Federal University Marching Band

One conspicuous tradition at Lords Federal football games is the presence of the Lords Federal University Marching Band. 200 members strong, the Marching Band is a brass-and-percussion band composed of students enrolled in the Arts School. These students play songs at breaks in play, after scores, or after good plays by Panthers players. The band also plays a halftime show at most home games. Carl Turlough is the current band director. Small portions of the band travel to away games, if local regulations allow it. Expect the band to travel to any postseason matchups, again, depending on local regulations. The band is an important part of the culture of Lords Federal and helps to cultivate the home field advantage that the Panthers experience at Pulaski Stadium.

While not well known in football outside of the city, the Saugeais State University at Montbenoit Lancers have quietly rebuilt their program from the ground up after 3 long seasons outside of the NSCAA Big 8 conference, now defunct. Taking up the charge of this humongous overhaul is first year head coach Wilbur Wolf, a graduate of the university and long time advocate for the growth of gridiron football within Saugeais. Wolf's previous head coaching ventures were among several secondary schools, most notably leading Lakeview Academy in Gilley to the Gilley City Championship two years in a row, but coming up short in the national semifinals this past year. "To have put me in charge of my alma mater's up and coming football team is quite an honor," stated Wolf. "I'll do my best to hit the ground running and hope with the talent we have here will send us into the playoff on the first go around."

The Lancers on the field will be led by senior quarterback Dave James, who redshirted his freshman year at Saugeais State, the last time the Lancers fielded a football squad. Opting to play at the junior college level, James reapplied by to Saugeais State with the hopes on not just competing for a college championship, but to complete his degree in electrical engineering. "If playing in the Saugeain Football League doesn't pan out, I've always wanted to better the technology we have currently," James said. "I'd love to work for Soundwave Electronics, maybe, just to see what they are up to and how I can contribute to their development of future products."

It remains unknown how coach Wolf will plan his attack, but his upperclass-laden roster is stacked on the defensive line, opting to go with the 46 defense. "Expect us to run a lot of blitz packages, we want to put pressure on the quarterback as often as possible," said Wolf. "The linebackers and safeties I've both recruited and trained are some of the fastest in the nation, perfect for the 46 defense I'm implementing. I'd love to see how they stack up to the other college kids around the multiverse."

The rejuvenated Lancers are still conference-less, with some speculating that a new independents group could form up, along with in state rival Bugny A&M, but one thing is for certain: Saugeais State is looking to bring exposure of gridiron back to the nation, one college game at a time.

NS is just a state of mind, time has no boundary nor does our sanity.

Please ignore my senseless ramblings, I'm getting old.

University
Université St. Croix is the oldest university of the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. It was founded in 1668 by the Royal Charter granted to young Franco-Korean scholars of Quebec for the education of young aristocrats, nobles and bourgeoisies. The university is considered as one of the most prestigious universities of the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, if not the most. A research-intensive university, it's been built a perennial reputation for academics and is recognized as the leading and cutting edge of the humanities and the arts.

The university is located about 15km east of the Downtown Quebec City, in the riverbanks of the mighty 'Riviere St.Laurent'. The size of the campus is approximately 124 square kilometres, making it one of the largest universities in the nation for size. Despite its distance from the Downtown, It's easy to commute or go to the University campus, as 14 bus routes and a subway line provides an effective method of transportation.
St.Croix in QIS
In Quebec Intercollegiate Sports (QIS), Université St.Croix has developed reputation for its sports programs, especially for its best ones. The university provides 14 varsity,12 intramural and 26 club sports. The University is particularly well known for its football, volleyball and fencing program, all of which have won many league championships in last decade.
St.Croix Football
Université St.Croix’s football program, among the oldest in Quebec, was founded in 1847 under the direction of Sir. Eric Labadie, the father of Quebecois football. However, they managed limited (by their standards) success for 130 years, only winning 19 championships. That has changed however in 1977 when the University's football program, after a decade of mediocrity and declining attendance, faced its death. That has led to Laurent Labadie, the great-grandson of the older Labadie, and Ross Constantin, the St.Croix alumni and former assistant coach of the successful-Quebec voyageurs and several NFL teams for several years, to put up a proposal for reorganization of the football program. The proposal has been accepted by the Board of Governors, and the changes have been made.

The football program was reorganised into a new structure, with the non-profit group that consists of community members, board officials, student athletes to hold the responsible for managing and redeveloping the program. Then, the large funding has been secured from the Provincial and municipal government to seek the funding for the recreation of the top-quality infrastructure and training facilities to attract top talent and in turn, field a winning team.
Since then they have managed to perform with enormous success in QIS Football (E.g. Alabama or USC in RL), beginning a Quebec-record string of above 0.500 seasons (which still continues to these days, now at 35 seasons. Their success, since then, is incomparable, with 15 championships in 34 seasons, as well as being the finalist for another 3. 412 of the 726 players from the program, has managed to join the well-known football leagues from both Quebec and around the World, which includes 96 in QFL.
Bleu et Blanc did not withdraw from the QIS Football after its admission and success from the eighth season of NationStates College Football, opting to playing at both QIS and NSCF to maximize profit and playing time for the players and coaches.
Stadium
Image
St.Croix Stadium is the home stadium of the Located in the campus, it's known to be one of the most difficult stadiums in Gridiron Football. It's built on 1934, with the money that was generously donated from the alumni and students who fought as part of Korean-Quebecois forces in the Korean Independence War(1929-1932), a Quebecois victory.
The original capacity of the stadium was 24,000, which was increased to 47,560 due to renovations and expansions.
The stadium is known as one of most intimidating stadium on Gridiron Football: The rowdy, house-packing fans rock down the stands with their perfectly orchestrated movements of cheers towards the home players and booing and jeers towards the away players, as well as various movements that are done such as waves and mass eruption with yelling after a Bleu et Blanc TD or FG.
The Home Games of Bleu et Blanc are always played in Friday nights, which starts in 20:00 and ends from 22:00-23:00.

Ramusok Capital University (RCU) Dragons

Image

Location: Ramusok, Ramusok, Cosumar

School Size: 46,442 undergraduates

Team History: RCU was one of the original NSCF schools and has participated in every season of the event, making it one of the most storied and successful programs in NSCF history. The Dragons were one of the top-ranked teams in the world, with a run to the semifinals in NSCF 2, and a Horizon Conference Championship in NSCF 3. However, the Dragons began to decline in NSCF 5 and have not been the same since. NSCF 7 was an all time low for the University and led to the firing of head coach Barry Feldman. NSCF 8 saw slight improvement, but in NSCF 9 RCU will attempt to restore their standard of excellence and win their first Championship.

Staff: Head Coach Darren Howard, Offensive Coordinator Michael Cho, Defensive Coordinator Martin Kurtz, and Special Teams Coordinator Andrew Bockman.

Stoneshore College Bruins

Image

Location: Cape Dutch, Stoneshore, Cosumar

School Size: 23,009 undergraduates

Team History: Unlike RCU, Stoneshore has a less extensive and less successful NSCF history. Always in the shadow of Big Brother RCU, the Bruins had a poor debut in NSCF 2, and has failed to reach the postseason every year since then. NSCF 7 was painfully bleak, the worst to date. Stoneshore responded by bringing in legendary coach Walter Hufnagel. The new coach is beginning to turn things around at Cape Dutch, showing signs of improvement in NSCF 8 and signing the most highly-touted recruiting class in school history heading into NSCF 9. There seems to be a shift in momentum, as Stoneshore is beginning the season ranked #8 by OSN.net. For the first time in decades, there are signs of life at Stoneshore and possible postseason expectations.

Panthers Pumped Up For First Game

The Lords Federal University Panthers are getting ready for their first game of the year, one in which they will likely be huge underdogs. The schedule for the Sequoia Conference has not been released, but if the schedules of other conferences are any indication, the Panthers will be hosting last year's runner-up Netteingen Tech at Pulaski Stadium on Saturday. Netteingen Tech, currently ranked second in the OSN polls, will be very difficult to beat. The team's roster has not yet been released, but some key players will likely be back, including wide receivers Rivelino Sijbrandij and Emerson Bon. Tech plays a shotgun offense with three wide receivers, so it will be interesting to see how the Panthers defense adjusts. Tech does return only 4 starters on offense, but the defense is a different story. 8 out of 11 return on defense for Netteingen, and that does not bode well for the Panthers chances to score. The wishbone offense may struggle to gain traction against the Hyena defense.

Looking around the rest of the conference, it seems as if Lords Federal has been drawn into a Group of Death of sorts. In addition to #2 Netteingen, Lords Federal will have to face #1 Alzburg-Dyka of Mytannion, #9 Riversburg-Madison of Khabarovsk Krai, #22 Vilitova of Chiata, and #28 Rowe of The Charming Islands. Lords Federal will have a very difficult time to advance to the playoffs from this group. Head Coach Melvyn Chance, however, is still confident that the team can make it to the postseason. "I think we have the advantage of surprise on our side for sure, I mean, none of these teams have seen us play really, so if we can get out to a fast start, I think we can make some noise in this conference." He added, "I think the uniqueness of our offense will help as well. Teams aren't used to the offense we run, and I think that we'll be able to overpower some teams in that way."

We wish the Panthers the best of luck as their campaign begins!

Team Captains Named

The Lords Federal captains were named yesterday in a team meeting. The captains, chosen by a combination of team vote and coaching staff vote, are the leaders of the team on and off of the pitch and are expected to be upstanding citizens off-the-field and excellent players on-the-field. Tradition states that there should be two offensive captains, two defensive captains, and one special teams captain and this year was no different. Seniors Brad Sykora (quarterback) and Gobain Savage (fullback) were chosen as the offensive captains. Toby Domonkos (linebacker) and Connor Michaud (safety) were voted defensive captains. And Vaclav Tovaj (punter) was selected as the special teams representative. Coach Chance was pleased with how the vote turned out. "I think we have a very good group of seniors this year to serve as captains, and I think that they will set a good example for the rest of the team. This group will be essential if we hope to make a run into the playoffs.

RCU to travel to St. Martin's in first week of NSCF 9
By Richie Steinbeck

Another year, another NSCF season for Ramusok Capital University. The message Coach Darren Howard has been preaching to his team over the offseason has been about "breaking free". Breaking free of bad habits and the cycle of mediocrity. What cycle of mediocrity, you ask? Ever since NSCF 3, RCU has begun the season with high expectations and renewed hopes for a Championship. And each time, the Dragons have been consistently mediocre - failing to live up to preseason expectations but doing *just* well enough to keep fans hopeful for the next season. Five straight seasons finishing in the middle of the conference. Yeah, that cycle of mediocrity. Every player and coach we've talked to has emphasized the need for the team to reinvent itself and do away with the "good enough" mentality that has taken hold.

"I was brought in as Head Coach to restore this football program to its former status. It's quite apparent that this once-proud team has grown complacent in accepting .500 season after .500 season," third-year Head Coach Darren Howard said. "The theme of camp this preseason has been about re-establishing RCU's identity and motivating all of our guys to go out there and buck the negative trend that has had its grip on this program for too long. I have the utmost confidence that this is going to be a great season to be an RCU Dragon."

Despite a 4th place finish in the conference last season (below Stoneshore, even) Ramusok Capital University is projected to win the Horizon Conference in NSCF 9. Defending champions West TaQud did not return, leaving an opening for RCU to fill. Entering the season ranked at #7, expectations are high once again for Ramusok Capital. The Dragons' first chance to defend their high ranking will be Week 1 against St. Martin's College. Little is known about St. Martin's except that they are new to NSCF and hail from the small soviet nation of New Koln. Though little is known about the opponent, the first game is often a good taste of what's to come for the rest of the season. Below I'll break down for you, dear readers, the keys to the season for RCU. If they hope to break free from mediocrity, these will be vital.

1. Quarterback Play - The Dragons haven’t had a bona-fide elite quarterback since Jacob Feldman left for the pro ranks. For the Dragons to have comeback season, they desperately need consistent play from junior Brandon Reigner. In his freshman season (NSCF 6) he showed signs of great promise, but made too many poor decisions and was altogether too inconsistent. He would explode with 4 TDs and 0 INTs one game, and then come back the next week and self-destruct. He showed improvement in NSCF 7 but will still plagued by inconsistency and spotty decision making. He’s a junior now, a third year starter. No more excuses. The Dragons need him to step up in big ways this season and become the leader that Coach Darren Howard is confident he will be. There definitely isn’t a lack of weapons. Senior running back Ernest Holmes returned for his final season, and Reigner’s options down the field include high school team-mate and fellow sophomore TE Wynn Pressham and All-Cosumarite senior WR Demetrius Swanepoel. If the Dragons find themselves burdened by quarterback play, they may need to consider giving redshirt freshman dual-threat quarterback Tobias Engel a chance to start.

2. Defensive Line - In NSCF 8, one of Ramusok's biggest strengths was their ability to pressure the opposing quarterbacks. All-NSCF defensive tackle Thomas Jamison averaged nearly two sacks per game and defensive end Matthew Zenith was a terror coming off of the edge. However, the Dragons lost both of these key players to the draft. New faces will have to step up to maintain the same level of production as last season. If not, the loss of Jamison and Zenith could be a huge problem for the Dragons. Defensive Coordinator Martin Kurtz's system revolves around pressuring the quarterback and an inability to do so could leave the Ramusok secondary vulenerable. Look for All-Cosumarite defensive end Mati Koskinen to lead this unit for the Dragons.

3. Cornerbacks - This year's group of corners will be young and inexperienced to say the least, consisting of a lone senior plus a sophomore and two freshmen. None have started a game before. It is up to senior Kzencha Morrovis to get the three underclassmen up to speed. But how good can Morrovis himself be if he never started a game in three whole years on the team? Going into the season, this position appears to be RCU's chink in the armor. Our run defense will be solid as usual, so teams are going to exploit this potential weakness and try to gash us through the air.The ability of these young cornerbacks to mature quickly and play with the big boys could have a big impact on RCU's success this season.

Cosumar Sports Broadcasting Network has placed RCU’s chances at victory over St. Martin's this weekend at 87%. Little is known about St. Martin's but it is sure to be an exciting game as RCU travels to New Koln for the NSCF 9 season opener. Be sure to tune in on CSBN and cheer for your Dragons. Look for The Roaring Dragon post-game report next week.

Until then, good night RCU and thank you for reading your official student newspaper The Roaring Dragon. Go Dragons!

Wumbos prep for NSCF 9
Hello Wumbos, and in this week's edition of the Sylvan Post, we will be talking about our grand old football team- the Wumbos, of course!
They have never been in a NSCF season before, but played college football in the German Shepherds College Football League with a lot of success. Head Coach Matt Hobbes says he thinks his team is ready for NSCF.
"We've been practicing a lot more, and I think we have improved," he said in a press conference after yesterday's practice. "Bubba Stuckey is throwing better passes, and we are improving our catches in traffic. Jarred Britt is improving to an average of around 6 to 7 yards per handoff, and Peter Chavis has improved blocking and catching. We really needed to work on our Special Teams coverage, and even though it still needs work, we have improved just a little bit on that. I've been pleased with our defense, and we will try our very best against Stoneshore College in our stadium. We will need our fans to really help us out in that game as well." Sylvan Beach U will play Stoneshore College on their first gameday. The Bruins are a top ten team, and have some very good players on their team, like CJ Stallworth, the quarterback, Luc Lestanne, the starting Running Back, and Marcellus Gates, a left tackle. Stoneshore has a new head coach, and we hope we can find a way to take advantage of this. Again, they are coming here, so be sure to come and wear red for the red-out and support our team!
Go Sylvan Beach!

Now, it serves as a large institute for technical arts and applied sciences. However, it is also home to Sandwich Territories' best collegiate football program, as it is the only one in the NSCF. The Paul L. Hackett Stadium, also known as The Rotunda can hold 81,000 fans, and was built in 1926. It was supposed to be covered by a dome, but fans wanted the stadium to be open, so the school complied. The stadium has been upgraded numerous times, with the last time being in July of 2013.

Frbiba State University Firebirds Roster for NSCF 9 Announce

Postby Michael VII » Mon Nov 25, 2013 1:31 am

Frbiba State Football. 100% Passion, 100% Tradition, 100% Glory.

Image

Who are we?
-The Frbiba State University is Michael VII's oldest university, dating back over 1000 years when it was known as Association of Colleges in Frbiba State, where the city of Frbiba was spread out among the entire Eastern bank of the Jagoza River. Founded in 966 SCE, the current Frbiba State University quickly became the flagship of the collegiate group, which led to the eventual consolidation of the ACFS into the one Frbiba State University at College Park. Frbiba State is regarded almost universally as the best university in Michael VII, found directly opposite fierce academic and athletic rivals, the University of Jagoza, located on the West Bank of the Jagoza. Upon the Eastern bank, the sacred Red and Gold colours fly predominantly over all colours, on the condition that no garment coloured as so touches the ground. Frbiba State boasts as the best team collegiate or professional in the town, even the country, and thus has huge fan support, especially at Riverside Stadium, which legend states is the House that God built.

The Frbiba State Firebirds won this entire thing in NSCF 5, and won the Woodlands Conference in NSCF 3, reaching the NSCF Championship in said season. The biggest rivals for Frbiba State are without a doubt, the University of Jagoza Groundhogs. In all sports it is the battle between Crimson and Gold, and Royal Blue and Black, where over the past two decades it has been very one sided for FSU, though last season Jagoza finally won after 19 years en route to a Woodlands Conference Championship and dooming the Firebirds to 4-7. Next biggest are the Utica University Tigers, where the Tigers hold a sizable lead in the all-time series, though almost every match has been close, including an NSCF Championship Game. Finally in the last game of the year is the FSU/UAD rivalry where the Granddady Of Them All (GOTA) match is played, the Royals currently lead this series after beating FSU in last year's match at Tiegemburg Park.

Where are we?
-Frbiba State University is located at the site of the Jagoza River delta, approximately 50km North of the coast, on the East Bank of the Jagoza River, just South of Frbiba Central. Directly opposite the river from the University of Jagoza, the flagship university of Jagoza, the commercial hub of Michael VII, Frbiba City being the capital and historical and political hub of our nation.

College Park
-College Park is the official area where Frbiba State is located, home to just over 20,000 permanent residents not attending the University. Thus College Park is by all means a College Town, though it is close enough to the city for large city gatherings when the team plays in College Park. College Park looks like an extant suburb of Frbiba City, as it home to a large amount of old style homes and looks like it was left in the 1800s while the rest of the nation developed. Often seen as a picturesque town, the Frbiban style of life is at home here, as the entire area is draped in Red and Gold, with the College directly making over 75% of the Town's GDP, showing College Park's huge reliance on FSU. Which is fair, as all grounds in College Park are actually owned by FSU, making the 20,000 residents, technically a part of FSU, and thus first in line for season tickets.

Red Plains Stadium at Riverside
-Or as the sponsors have made us say, Ritchies Stadium at Riverside, call it Red Plains, call it Riverside, call it Ritchies, call it what you like, but there is no parting this Red Sea! Red Plains is an on-campus stadium that is known for being an insane venue to visit. 55,000 people all dressed in red and gold, dwarfing the opposing team's fans and really being a scary place to visit in general. Few teams have succeeded here over the years, only Utica, UAD and St John's Island have had any success here, and is ranked one of the hardest stadiums to play in. There are a few reasons why, and the big one is because of the way we watch sports in our great nation. Red Plains has strict alcohol rules, it monitors your drinking, well, at least if you're not from here...Very few Michaeleans wish to get drunk while watching sports, as it is what makes us a difficult crowd to beat. We watch the game and criticise everything we can, we get into it. If you drink, you're missing out on the spectacle. Hooliganism isn't prominent here, and the tough to beat attitude is from the crowd that knows what's going on. The fans are all very close to the field, right on the players' backs, lifting the Firebirds up and bringing the opposition down crying to their knees. Watch out if you come, lest you wear red and gold.

Info
University Name: Frbiba State University
Motto: Ad Victoriam
Established: 966 SCE (OOC: Fluid time doesn't work well with me, so let's just say it's over 1000 years old.)
Location: Frbiba City. (College Park of South Frbiba)
Nickname: Firebirds
Type: Public Co-Educational
Students: Undergraduates: 31,000. Postgraduates: 7,000. Staff: 2050.
Stadium: Red Plains Stadium at Riverside (Sponsor Name: Ritchies Stadium at Riverside)
Capacity: 60,000
Style: -3 (Defensive)

Offense: Singleback Formation, Pro-style Offense.
Defense: 4-3 base.

Coach: Aleksandr Valentino 31st year (19th with FSU)
-Ice cool Aleksandr Valentino, entering his 19th year at the helm of FSU, with the Woodlands and NSCF titles now gathering dust in the cabinet, is out for more trophies to make the world fully aware once more of FSU's dominance as a school. A ruthless defensive coach, he'll be looking to try replace the 10 lost starters of last year's offense to rebound from 4-7.

Assistant Coach: Marius Salmons 6th year (6th with FSU)
-Salmons is a young coach with a bright future. Salmons finished his career at FSU as a mobile Tight End in the season before the Firebirds joined the NSCF, and is Valentino's right hand man, especially on the West Coast pass scheme, where mobile Tight Ends such as Salmons was very important.

Offensive Co-ord: Vaclav Treiblik [Mytannion] 20th Year (5th with FSU)
Offensive Line Coach: Derrick Johnson 17th year (8th with FSU)
Offensive Backs Coach: Friedrich Metz 10th year (6th with FSU)
Receivers Coach: Martin Genf 7th year (6th with FSU)

-The Offensive Coaching group is the same group as last year, with Treiblik becoming a more well-known character around this camp, now in his 3rd season everyone is looking at Coach Vaclav to use his UAD pass-first philosophy to greatness at FSU, where the lack of trophies and wins over Utica are getting much more noticeable. All the others are pretty standard, and have a lot of experience in FSU.

Defensive Co-ord: Philip Otella 18th year (18th with FSU)
Defensive Line Coach: Jordan Ophelia 22nd year (17th with FSU)
Defensive Backs Coach: Michael Ozil 14th year (14th with FSU)
Linebackers Coach: Kyle Ender 11th year (7th with FSU)

-The Defensive Coaching caucus hasn't changed at all since last year, and why should it? This year losing a lot of starters will require a lot from our experienced coaches, and with Ender being the youngest here with 7 years at FSU, we should be set to replace all players required.

Special Teams Co-ord: William Kyrt 7th year (7th with FSU)
Kicking Coach: Myles Carter 6th year (6th with FSU)

University of Jagoza Groundhogs Football NSCF 9 Roster Annou

Postby Michael VII » Mon Nov 25, 2013 2:45 am

Defending Woodlands Champions, Cross-River Classic Winners. Rise up and shout for Jagoza Football!

Image

Who are we?
-The University of Jagoza is Michael VII's second oldest university, and the oldest West of the Jagoza River. Located directly opposite the Frbiba State University, fierce rivals of UJ, the Jagozan teams, known as the Groundhogs, competing in Blue and Black are the best known team on the West Bank. Fellow competitors in the Riverside-12 Conference, UJ hasn't been quite as successful as FSU, though in earlier years the Groundhogs were the team to beat you BLACK AND BLUE, and to swarm teams on offense like GROUNDHOGS, and thus Jagoza got their names and colours. The University is extensively used all over, University Field being the National Baseball team's home ballpark, and Groundhog Field hosting the 17th World Bowl, along with being the site of the Jagoza 4A Football Championships, the premier High School tournament in the surrounding area. Recent failures, especially in NSCF play, have done little to demoralise Jagoza, who are just patiently waiting to get another win over FSU, which has been a LONG time coming.

Where are we?
Opposite Frbiba State University, on the West Bank of the Jagoza River, due South of the Main Centre of Jagoza, though still a part of Jagoza Central itself. The University essentially becomes a branch of the inner city, being very close to the CBD, and thus the games are often played just a short time after work finishes in the Business sector as a great way to end the day.

Jagoza City
-Jagoza City is the second largest city in Michael VII, home to nearly 20,000,000 residents. Jagoza is the business sector of the nation, the skyline being filled with skyscrapers and business buildings, creating a spectacular contrast to the historic setting of Frbiba. Jagoza is very modern and is filled with Frbibans day and night, who wish to experience the more wild nightlife, and also must commute to in order to find office jobs.

Groundhog Field
-Groundhog Field is the stadium of the University of Jagoza Football team, but also the site of the Track and Field team and the Lacrosse, Soccer and Rugby teams. In actual fact, all sports with a rectangular field use the amenities here. As such, Groundhog Field isn't quite as close to the action as Red Plains, but it is considered a more modern place. The acoustics aren't particularly great, but when 60,000 crazy Groundhog fans come in to cheer on the boys, it doesn't matter, it gets loud nonetheless, attracting praise nationwide as a great stadium to visit. Unlike Red Plains, we're a little less restrictive on alcohol, after a hard day's work, sometimes you just need a drink to relax and watch some great sports.

Info
University: University of Jagoza
Location: Jagoza City (Central City)
Nickname: Groundhogs
Colours: Blue and Black
Type: Public, Co-educational
Students: Undergraduates 24,000; Postgraduates 7,500
Stadium: Groundhog Field
Capacity: 60,000
Style: +4.5

Primary Offense: West Coast Offense, Shotgun Trips WR Base.
Primary Defense: 3-3-5 base.

As per usual, the West Coast will be used, with many snaps being taken from the Shotgun Formation, giving the QB the driving seat in taking leadership and control of the match. On defense, the 3-3-5 has now fully replaced the 3-4 as the main defense in town, so a nickelback will be placed in where the extra linebacker will have been. Hopefully this will give the Groundhogs a faster defense to be able to match the spread offenses in the Woodlands. The defense secured a Championship last season, and many pundits are picking another successful season for the Groundhogs.

Coach: Joseph Marchild 13 Years (13 with Jagoza)
-In 12 years at the helm of UJ, not once had Marchild won the big rivalry game. Nor had Marchild led the Groundhogs to a winning record or playoff berth. With the hotseat getting heavily warmed up, Marchild rose far above all expectations, finally beating the Firebirds after 19 years, walking into Utica's The Pit and winning, clinching a playoff berth and the conference title in the process. Just when everyone thought Hales was going to take the helm, Joey pulls out a miracle season to buy a little more time.

Assistant Coach: Bruce Hales 18 Years (13 with Jagoza)
-Hales was first appointed by Marchild at Jagoza when Marchild took the helm as a rookie coach. Hales had an extra 5 years of experience, and seemed a good fit for Marchild. After nearly a decade of UJ fans waiting for Hales to take over Marchild's spot as Head Coach, the Groundhogs gave Joey enough for one more season, leaving Hales out once again.

Offense Co-ord: Matthew Schnee 18 Years (7 with Jagoza)
Offensive Line Coach: Timothy Lane 6 Years (6 with Jagoza)
Offensive Backs Coach: Dieter Erdner 11 Years (9 with Jagoza)
Receivers Coach: Terrence Kart 23 Years (14 with Jagoza)

-No coaching changes have happened at UJ over the offseason, but we were nearly in for a big shakeup when Marchild was assumed to be fired. However that all changed when the Hogs won the Conference Championship, keeping an unchanged Offensive unit who have now all seen recruits from Redshirt Freshman through Graduation.

Defense Co-ord: Neil Partridge 6 Years (6 with Jagoza)
Defensive Line Coach: Terrence Merci 12 Years (2 with Jagoza)
Defensive Backs Coach: Yuri Taylor 11 Years (7 with Jagoza)
Linebackers Coach: Gerald Neverson 16 Years (8 with Jagoza)

-No changes here, though it will be the swan song for LB Coach Gerald Neverson, as he has chosen to leave after this season seeking the DC position at Jagoza State who lost most of their staff over scholarship violations that got them suspended from NSCF play for a season, hopefully he'll be back with the Pirates in NSCF 10.

Special Teams Co-ord: Thierry Favours 16 Years (5 with Jagoza)
Kicking Coach: Hunter Partridge 18 Years (16 with Jagoza)

Valor Coast University (sometimes referred to as The Valor Coast University) , stylized as Valor Coast University, is a large (in endowment) college located near Embasssy Row in the province of Cape Marshall. It competes strongly in the sport of basketball, and has recently strived to become successful in football (gridiron). Recently, VCU's GRIDIRON team left " Sector 1 Vettrera Collegiate Sporting Association" to compete in "NSCF" as the rest of their sport teams still compete in the VCSA. After an issue with the VCSA forced the team to compete back in their domestic conference last year, they are now back to make some noise.

FSU/UJ Preseason Preview

Frbiba State Firebirds Football Preview

Image

LAST SEASON

Last season was not a good one for Frbiba State, and nor was it expected at all. One of the strongest and most experienced teams in FSU history fell badly in a season that should not have been as bad as it was. Two losses to Utica again, a loss to Jagoza State, and worst of all, not one, but two losses to Jagoza for the first time in Coach Valentino's tenure at College Park.

It seems like Valentino just forgot about his holes recruiting last season to focus on getting the Firebirds up to the challenge last year, and it shows, while 13 Seniors and 7 Juniors take the starting spots this year, only 4 of those players were starting last season. Mytanar players Makar Golubev and Hleb Abrahamovich, and from Khabarovsk, Ville Berggren, made 3 of 4 returners foreign born, Bobby Fordham being the only native Michaelean returning to start this year.

The season could not have started any worse in Frbiba, crossing the river for week one of the season, Jagoza ended their hoodoo winning a tight Cross-River Classic 21-20, dropping FSU to 0-1. The Firebirds then improved to 1-1 following a comprehensive away win at Corksville, 33-13. FSU then attained the first of only three winning records last season going 2-1 after a tight home win against Milubatar. Then came the annual trip to The Pit, where the Tigers throttled an injury riddled Firebirds team 31-16. To end the first round of play, FSU took out Jagoza State handily 27-12 to go 3-2.

The second round was where things started to fall apart. Jagoza recorded their first win at Red Plains Stadium in 25 years, easily tearing apart the Firebirds defense to win 24-6, dropping back to 3-3. The Firebirds then got back to their winning way thashing Corksville 37-7, leaving Frbibans confused as to where there offense went on holiday the previous week. Then the inconsistent Firebirds dropped back to 4-4 after being well beaten 31-10 on the road against Milubatar.

The next three weeks just got progressively worse, getting dropped 21-7 by Utica at home, before losing in the State Bowl to Jagoza State for the first ever time, dropping to 4-6 in Conference Play following a 23-9 loss to Jagoza State. Finally came the GOTA game at Alzburg-Dyka, and perhaps it was time for FSU to get up one last time knowing playoffs was beyond their grips, but alas fell 26-10, to lose their 4th in a row, dropping to 4-7 and missing the playoffs for the first time ever.

Valentino's job as considered on the line, and another season like the last could be Coach Alex's last one on the sideline. Mytanar native and former UAD Offensive Coordinator Vaclav Treiblik is widely considered to be the frontrunner for the job, though FSU Administrators are adamant that Aleksandr's job is safe for the time being.

RECRUITING AND TEAM OUTLOOK

The Firebirds roster doesn't look like the Firebirds most fans are used to. Pretty much every starter is gone, and we have a whole bunch of new Freshmen to learn under this year's team. Overall the Offensive Line looks pretty weak, with two Freshmen at starter and not much more to be subbed on. Jeffrey Summers and Mel Walters are well known on the team to be of importance, and should be good to lead the O-Line through a very different season, where the pass block will be of crucial importance. Nothing against Alessandri or Attaway, but we should be glad we're not running too much this year and have a good center and left tackle.

Mathew Uecker and Makar Golubev will be our main attack through the air, Uecker having spent a long time under Wayne Paris to learn the Firebirds offense, and Golubev being the star recruit from Mytannion 4 years ago, having three years of experience starting on this side. Wensel and Manson are the other two starters at Receiver and have spent a lot of time with Uecker with the 2nd team at practices.

On defense, Valentino managed to scrounge together a much better D-Line that was left lacking after Shiver graduated. The two starters at Defensive End are transfer students from top Junior Colleges, Natan Linwood from Gaetsa Community College being the top prospect from the MJCL (Michaelean Junior College League), and Senior Nicholas Lamar from Rainer Pre-Med College, where he will start taking classes at the Frbiba State Medical School, alongside starting at RDE. At Defensive Tackle are Fred Garcia and David Gazal who have no starting experience, but neither are to be overlooked. On defense the side looks great, and the D-Line still looks the weakest.

The Linebackers corps definitely looks the strongest with all three players having spent at least 4 years with the team, lead by MLB Ville Berggren, and Nelson Gardin and Kyle Davidson on the outside flanks as top blitzing linebackers. Outside of the starters though the group is quite weak, with everyone else being incoming Freshmen.

Finally the Defensive Backs look the deepest, with 5 Senior Corners, and 3 upperclassmen at Safety. Bobby Fordham and Hleb Abrahamovich represent the only position where all NSCF 8 starters return, and as such should see an improved pass defense. Kurt Follis and Stephen Druidan start at Safety, where their lack of ingame experience is a little worrying.

TOP INCOMING RECRUITS
1. Eliphelet Ganza, QB.
-Ganza has shown over his four years at Westlake High, that Mt Sinai are not invincible. The Swans QB led Westlake to a State Championship and two Division titles in his tenure, stemming mainly from his great arm and vision to read defenses. Listed at #3 in the depth chart behind Jameson, we reckon Ganza is going to have become #2 by the first Jagoza game.

2. Cy White, OL.
-Cy White may not have played a glamourous position, but he'll quickly become a leading player on the Firebirds O-Line. Coming from South Coast High in Atlancia, White was a unanimous All-Michaelean Tackle, known mainly for playing on SCHS's offense that was the only school to ever beat Mt Sinai in the playoffs in the past decade. Not conceding a single sack all season to new Jagoza recruit at QB Baudouin Maclomhair. Benched by Valentino to stay as a LT under Jeffrey Summers.

3. Marcas Newell, LB.
-Newell is one of few recruits to make it through from the Private Schools division. Considered undersized for an NSCF defense, Newell from St Joseph's Academy is an outstanding strategist, knowing exactly how to respond to an offense and read their next move.

SLEEPER RECRUIT
Harvey Gibbs, SS.
-Gibbs hasn't been rated by anyone to move his way up the depth chart. Listed in last place at Safety, we reckon that Gibbs will be starting over Junior Michael Castren for the starting spot at SS following Follis' graduation this season.

-Utica for their standards had a down year last year, though a win first up against Utica would prove two things. 1, that the Firebirds are back this year with a vengeance, and 2, that FSU doesn't have rebuilding years.

2. v #5 Jagoza
-First game against those bastards again after being swept last year. I can promise you one thing, there will be blood.

3. @ #5 Jagoza
-First game into a very tough OOC schedule that keeps on getting tougher with #4 St. Croix, #3 UPS, and #1 UAD in the rivalry game. This will be the first test to see if we can hold our nerve.

4. v #1 UAD
-The Granddaddy Of Them All. It's been a rough couple of years in this game, and it'd be nice to go into playoff season with a victory.

OUR PREDICTION
10-3, with losses to Utica twice and UAD. Playoffs bound again after finishing 2nd in the Woodlands and a Semifinal finish.

It's gonna be a tough year for the Firebirds, playing 7 of their 11 games against currently ranked teams, including the toughest ever scheduled OOC stretch to end the year.

The Firebirds will wear their Away alternates (Gold) in the final game @ Jagoza. All other away games are played with the white jerseys and red pants.

LAST SEASON

It's just so cliche, the rival little brothers have their best season ever, while the big boys have a miserable season to forget. The Groundhogs came into the season following 4 miserable campaigns in the NSCF, Coach Joseph Marchild rumoured to be on the firing line should the Groundhogs fail to beat their rivals in Week One of the season at Groundhog Field. The season started perfectly as Jagoza took down the Firebirds 21-20 at home in front of 60,000 fans wondering if after 19 years it was time to give up going to the CRC. The Groundhog fans stormed the field and it was signs of a great season to come for now 1-0 Jagoza. Jagoza followed up their success with a 20-13 win over Milubatar, before stunning Utica 26-7 to go 3-0, setting up a top of the table clash at JSU the next week. Heading to the SUB, the Groundhogs throttled the Pirate faithful (who reached 4-0 for the first time in decades) 22-6 to go 4-0. Finishing off the first round, UJ then destroyed Corksville 26-6 to take a 2 game lead at the top after 5 games.

The next test was to see if Marchild could pull another miracle by winning at Red Plains. Delivering like he did all season, the Groundhogs eased over their Firebird rivals winning 24-6 to go 6-0, the perfect season still continuing. Jagoza then got surprised at home against Milubatar, losing 10-13 on a last second Field Goal to end the undefeated season. Up into The Pit came Jagoza, losing 24-3 in an embarrassing effort, and everyone was wondering if UJ were in for a rude surprise to end the season.

But that was the end of losing for the regular season, Jagoza then defeating minor rivals Jagoza State in a thrilling 27-20 match on Senior Day, and then an emphatic 33-17 win over cellar dwellers Corksville. Going 8-2, Jagoza then played Korycka at home, but fell 25-11 to finish 8-3 over the season.

Heading to the playoffs for the first time ever, Jagoza drew Utica at home. Utica got up 24-20 after a Field Goal with just 67 ticks left on the clock, and everyone thought it was all over red rover. But in a crazy 65 second drive, Jagoza got down to 12 yard line with one play left to keep their season alive. On a final second throw into the end zone, Sophomore WR Gerald Stein caught it in the back to grab a last gasp 26-24 win, to move on to Netteingen Tech. But the semifinals were a step too far, the Groundhogs being comfortably destroyed in Khabarovsk Krai, losing to Netteingen Tech 46-17, in a disappointing last game, though a very good season for Grounhogs fans every year, buying Marchild at least one more year at the helm.

RECRUITING AND TEAM OUTLOOK

The Jagoza team for this season is looking strong for this season, and even stronger built for the future. Gary Derrick and his Wide Receiving corps are all very well acquainted, and Stein and Hutchins will be the leaders in receptions this season. Not to be overlooked though is Senior TE Halley Samuels, who has shown great mobility and usefulness as a receiver when needed. The run game will be vastly deemphasised this season though, with Jose Waggoner, a large FB gaining the starting spot this season, showing that a lot of screen passes and FB blocking schemes will be used to protect Derrick from injury this season, having faced injury issues through his career.

The Offensive Line could be a little interesting with a very young openside, Freshmen starting at Right Tackle and Guard, with Juniors on the left side and a Senior Centre. This would imply that Waggoner will be blocking right side blitzes toward the freshmen, and Samuels will create the strong side at TE. Should Cartwring and Du Plessis fail on the blindside though, this team will fall to pieces.

On defense we'll see another year of the 3-3-5 defense, it's 3rd year now, and a very experienced defense is set to take on the challenge. Massive NT Edvin Salvatici is one of two starting Freshmen, and he's been chosen specifically for his size and power. The Linebackers are going to be strongest part of this defense, with 3 fifth-year seniors starting at LB, Curtis Seymour almost acting as a faster 5th lineman creating a pseudo 4-2-5 defense. A lot of teams will find this defense very difficult to move the ball against.

On the D-Line, outside of Salvatici there's a lot of experience in the team, and Windsor and Daniels are good enough to make this a strong starting group at the LOS. The D-Line won't be too flashy, but they will be good at stopping the run and capable against air raid offenses. However the secondary is where we're worried. Our Nickelback is Freshman Roibeard Segal, and a lot more Freshmen are high up on the depth chart at CB. Morton and Hillary have been known to be a bit holey on Defense, leaving Wallace McDonald to order around the troops out deep. Alongside two unproven recruits at Safety, it will be interesting to see how the Groundhogs are against teams with top passing offenses.

TOP INCOMING RECRUITS
1. Edvin Salvatici, DL.
-Salvatici was a must pick recruit, and it was lucky that he was a West Bank boy born and raised, because otherwise he could very well have ended up at Frbiba State. Salvatici is absolutely massive, and extremely powerful and has earned his spot as starting NT. This D-Line will be monstrous with Salvatici in the middle.

2. Daniel Stephens, WR.
-Stephens is another 5-star recruit picked up out wide. UJ knew they needed a top WR for the following season, and Stephens knew he needed another year before he was ready for college ball. Coming from Mt Sinai Grammar, Stephens wasn't the most used by their Option Offense, but was definitely instrumental in their National Championship campaigns.

3. Roibeard Segal, CB.
-Roibeard sounds like he was written into J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series, but in actuality he is a top recruit originally signed with Jagoza State before they were dropped by the NSCF. Segal is a quick and agile Cornerback who learned the game after originally coming to High School as a rugby player. Definitely has some work to do before being a defensive captain, but has a lot in him.

SLEEPER RECRUIT
-Baudouin Maclomhair, QB.
Maclomhair has never been touted as a big thing in Michaelean circles, yet he kept on going. His High School coaches thought his arm was too weak coming into High School, so he spends a year at JV and torches opponents with an 85% completion rate and a TD/INT ratio of over 10. Sophomore year he earns the start, and his main competition claims he isn't agile enough to play QB at South Coast High, so Maclomhair takes on the challenge and has 9 100+ yard rush games while competitor Everette Alberda transfers and loses in the playoffs to none other than Maclomhair. Alberda ends up at Community College and is now #5 on the FSU depth chart.

Coming into his Junior year with Cy White at O-Line, the All-Michaelean selectors snub him saying that he can't read defenses. That entire season no defense gets a sack on him and SCHS win the National Championship for the first time ever. And in his last year at High School, they all said that he was nothing without Cy White, so Baudouin takes charge when White gets injured for 3 games, and combines for 12 TDs in those three games. Even now FSU went past him, going for Frbiban Eliphelet Ganza of Westlake. Mark our words, Maclomhair will start the next 3 years and torch Ganza and Frbiba State at least twice.

BIG GAMES
1. @ 14 Frbiba State.
-Let's ruin their homecoming and take them out again to go 3 in a row for the first time, in like, ever. This will show if Marchild really has gotten the upper edge over Valentino, or if last year was just a fluke.

2. @ #6 Utica.
-We managed to take down Utica two out of three times last season, and winning in The Pit was something we failed to do. This will almost certainly decide the Conference Championship, though it is not as big as getting 3 in a row over FSU.

3. v #14 Frbiba State.
-It's Senior Day, and we haven't had a Senior Day win over FSU in a long time. Last in conference game, and it'll be a big game to show the rest of the competition that UJ is the real deal.

4. v Jagoza State (Preseason)
-Jagoza State had a good season last year, but their unexpected good year came from unexpected cheating with scholarships and illegal benefits. As such JSU got kicked out of the NSCF for at least one year, and the West Bank Cup is on the line either way. Let's keep the litte brothers away from it for one more year aye?

Coming into the season so highly ranked, and Top 5 for the first time, will make it very tough to stay composed and avoid getting ahead of ourselves. It will not be an easy schedule with Utica and Frbiba State on the schedule twice, alongside Bishop's U and Northern Dinagat State out of conference, so getting a good start is very important.

OUR PREDICTION
12-2, we'll lose once to Utica, likely in The Pit, and also drop a random game we shouldn't lose but will. In failing that, Northern Dinagat State will stun us at home right in front of the NSCF Committee selectors. The West Bank Cup stays with the Groundhogs.

In all home games Jagoza will wear their main home uniform, except for Homecoming against Levivania where they will wear their black alternates. In all away games Jagoza will wear white with royal blue pants except for the game at Frbiba State where they will wear royal blue jerseys and black pants.

TEN BURNING QUESTIONS

1. Where have Jagoza State gone?
-JSU got caught in massive trouble with MACS last year by surprisingly doing well enough to go 6-4 last season when all pundits thought 3-7 at best. It was found out that Head Coach David Wright was oversigning players and also allowing boosters to give impermissible benefits while claiming them as booster donations to his school salary and paying for them out of his pocket as team expenses. MACS suspended JSU from NSCF play for one season and they might be back by NSCF 10.

2. Have our coaches been too shortsighted with recruiting?
-FSU, maybe, Jagoza, no. Frbiba State have been unsustainably been putting upperclassmen at starting positions, and this year's team shows, many players not having much experience of the field at all, and they stand to lose more after this season. Jagoza have built their team for the future, and their fast paced offense and quick defense relies on lots of substitutions giving younger guys good reps for future seasons.

3. Is Valentino's job on the line?
-FSU Administration says no, but every sign points to yes. It's his 31st year coaching, and 19th with FSU, sometimes it's just time for a change. Valentino is getting a bit old, and may want to cash in on a role with an easier job in the MFL before retiring. Should he fail to beat Jagoza or Utica, he might be fired, should we avoid the playoffs but stay respectable he'll stay until the year and be asked to move on in quiet.

4. What about Joseph Marchild?
-What about him? He just led Jagoza to their best season ever after 4 miserable NSCF seasons. You can't fault Marchild, and he's built a good team for the next few years. If UJ fires him, it's either because he's gone 0-14, or they're officially stupid.

5. Next in line for FSU job, Salmons or Treiblik?
-Definitely Treiblik. Salmons is too young and still learning, the boy is only 28 remember. Treiblik doesn't want to be in the coaching game for too much longer, but needs Salmons to get more experience as an Assistant before giving him full reigns as coach. FSU don't want a young guy with no HC experience unless they fully trust him, and after last year they aren't gonna trust one of Valentino's old boys.

6. Who wins the NSCF this season?
-As much as I want to say Frbiba State or Jagoza, it's not gonna be a Michaelean team. Either Utica will win it or Port Salem will. If it's UPS against Utica, take Utica, but if it's UPS against anyone else, take UPS.

7. What do you make of Jagoza's injury situation with Derrick?
-Either way they'll have a great QB starting, Waggoner and Samuels are great at blocking on the strongside, and the blindside features two very good linemen, so Derrick shouldn't get in an injury position this year. But if he does, I have more than enough faith in Baudouin Maclomhair to lead UJ through a season as a true freshman. The boy is a born winner.

8. UJ Linebackers Coach Gerald Neverson to JSU, your thoughts?
-I wish him luck. It's good he stayed around for one more year with a very experienced Linebackers group that'll dominate the NSCF, but it is time for a bit of fresh air, and what better place to do it than with a disgraced program? He can still take them to the NSCF, and JSU has always been in need of a good defense to survive in the Woodlands.

9. Can FSU end their hoodoo against UAD?
-They're playing it at home this year, so I'll give them a good shot at doing so, but UAD are always tough to beat, no matter where they play. Uecker to Golubev will be a killer pass combo, so there's no reason to suggest they regress OOC this year, though it will be very difficult.

10. Is Ganza really as good as he's hyped up to be?
-No. Ganza played at a Westlake side that made him look good, it was easy with that team. He never really impressed, but FSU took the bait. I definitely rate Maclomhair as the next big Michaelean QB, despite Baudouin being supposedly undersized, non-mobile, and unable to play behind bad O-Lines.
