Bonjour and welcome one and all to Saugeais! 32 teams from across the region have traveled by land, sea, and air to grace this righteous land with their presence, bring with them skill, determination, prode, passion, and class (at least we hope a few nations will). The FA welcome each and every participant and visitor, but at the end of the day, everyone is fighting for one thing: to claim the famed Copa Rushmori and with it the crown of champions of all Rushmore!

Day 1 Draw

There will be 5 matches to determine who will advance. With 32 teams, the top 16 as determined by points and tiebreakers will move on to the single elimination knockout round. Keeping in form with the Casaran system laid out before us, here are the "seeded" and unseeded" pots, as determined by the newly formed Rushmore rankings.

Seeded:
Darmen
Sargossa
Saugeais
Western Cuba
Taeshan
Mapletish
Polar Islandstates
Eastfield Lodge
Pasarga
Astograth
Valladares
Sicoutimont
Eura
Mangolana
Mytannion
Dixhuitiles

Unseeded:
Charruterra
Filopines
Kitsunia-Deesse
Aels
Beaverriver
Alitaba
Antoletia
Ark
Carasatoga
Falcus
Karditan
Leintalun
Olastor
Safaari
Salem Oregon
Sameba

And throwing the placement of each team into two separate random number generators, we will have the following pairs for our first round matches:

Saugeais vs. Beaverriver
Western Cuba vs. Olastor
Polar Islandstates vs. Sameba
Sargossa vs. Karditan
Mangolana vs. Safaari
Sicoutimont vs. Alitaba
Eura vs. Leintalun
Mapletish vs. Aels
Astograth vs. Charruterra
Mytannion vs. Carasatoga
Pasarga vs. Filopines
Taeshan vs. Antoletia
Eastfield Lodge vs. Kitsunia-Deesse
Darmen vs. Falcus
Valladares vs. Ark
Dixhuitiles vs. Salem Oregon

A brief profile of each of the venues can be found at the bottom of the next post. The order each stadium is listed corresponds to the order in which the matches are drawn, ie. match 1 takes place in stadium #1, match 2 in stadium #2, etc.

Ark is a man-made country located somewhere within the Rushmori Ocean. A long time ago, at roughly the same time as colonists departed Paradystopia to form the country of Commune-PDT.v2, a second party departed by a titanic boat. Their aim, to seek a new utopia for themselves. Somewhere along the way, the great engines which powered this floating fortress broke irreparably rendering the inhabitants lost at sea. Their arrogance forbidding them from contacting their native land for aid.

For a great many years they drifted, slowly becoming adapted to a life on the water until eventually the decision was made to drop anchor and simply accept this location as their new home. As then, the job of the men was to gather fish from the ocean, these long periods away saw the evolution of a, for want of a better word, femocracy. Soon women had established themselves as the dominant sex, overseeing all of the governance and administrative work in Ark and in many cases, oppressing the men.

(RP note: Arkan players/supporters are very likely to be dismissive of male players, officials and ... well, men in general. Please take this into account.)

On the subject of RP, do what ever you want but if it's something particularly crazy, a 'heads-up' by TG would be greatly appreciated.

GOALKEEPERS

1 - Joe Jackson - New Capetown Falcons 7 Caps, 23 Years Old
Thrust into the national team after the injury to starting keeper Ryleigh Voegael, Jackson did admirably but ultimately it was his fault the team got knocked out of the race for qualification. After that he lost the starting job, but likely indications point to him starting for the national team for the next few years to come, after of course likely starter Jacob Martin decides on his future with the team.

23 - Dale Smoker - Capetown Croc's 0 Caps, 27 Years Old
The third keeper for the team is the man who has managed to consistently keep a job in a up and down team, and will likely never see the field.

24 - Logan Watson - X Island Marauders 7 Caps, 25 Years Old
The second stringer for both the full national team and this B squad, Logan is a capable backup who won't make the highlight reel with his saves, but if need be he is a capable replacement.

DEFENDERS

2 - LB, Eddie Styles - Mt Ceabring Thunder 49 Caps, 1 Goal, 28 Years Old
Given a chance to start in the Cup of Harmony at the wingback position Eddie proved the fears that many Purple Knights fans have had. At the fullback position if the real starters get injured the backups are very unlikely to put up much of a performance against the better international teams.

3 - CB, Grant Wetter - Aasiaat Harbour (Polar Islandstates) 36 Caps, 28 Years Old
Another unlikely starter during the Cup of Harmony, unlike his fullback teammates Grant showed a certain proclivity for not sucking. Although it is doubtful he will knock down the husband and wife starting backs he at least is not a huge step down at central defense.

4 - CB, Tyler Smyth - Atlantea Hurricanes 10 Caps, 28 Years Old
Another strong center back option is Tyler Smyth, though likely to never break into the senior squad the long time stalwart on the Atlantea defense has made a mark in his few international appearances and shows a nice ability in his chances.

5 - RB, Gloria Walters - Gilley FC (Saugeais) 30 Caps, 28 Years Old
Interestingly enough all four of the back four starters are the same age. Little known fact, the only female of them has a notable crush on international star Ender Wiggin. Wonder what thats all about.

17 - Max Toledo - Mt Ceabring Thunder 1 Cap, 24 Years Old
The second player from Mt Ceabring has managed to really make a mark as the first bench defender for this team, and perhaps he can get some more caps this time around and hopefully push for a full squad position in a few years.

19 - Tyler Provyay - Knightspurs 2 Caps, 25 years Old
The former U-21 captain has managed to get overshadowed by his full squad former teammates and has recently seemed to lost a step after he took a cleat to the knee.

21 - Flynn Partker - Fadron Flight 2 Caps, 24 Years Old
Another likely future national team player after the men ahead of him retire, Flynn has long been heralded as the likely successor to a wide spot somewhere. Anywhere really.

MIDFIELDERS

6 - LM, George Klose - Atlantea Hurricanes 3 Caps, 28 Years Old
Another player in the 28 year old player club, Klose is another longtime Atlantea player and is a very strong winger, and playmaker. The likely free kick taker, Klose has a powerful cross and a nice tricky left foot.

7 - RM, Jeremi Krieder - Ojian Orangemen 8 Caps, 25 Years Old
A possible future starter for the full national team and a real livewire, Krieder has long been considered a future player for the Purple Knights and hopefully in this tournament he can come into his own in the central midfield.

8 - CM, Tyler Icicle - Tintown Terrapins 45 Caps, 1 Goal, 28 Years Old
The only already announced starter replacement for the upcoming season, besides the obvious goalie move, Icicle will be playing a bit more forward than he will during qualifying and perhaps this will give a chance for him to find a spark for the future of his playing career on the team.

9 - CAM, Ender Wiggin - Nautico (Whirl Islands) 164 Caps, 79 Goals, 29 Years OldCAPTAIN
The highest current cap and goal winner Ender Wiggin has revitalized his career since a move from Eura to Whirl Islands and now looks to likely lead the charge into another Copa Rushmori. He still has a lot of catching up to Brian Ying Uing to do, and he has at least a few seasons to do so.

12 - Adain Nostradamus - Ojian Orangemen 0 Caps, 23 Years Old
Fresh off another good season the short time U21 player Nostradamus will look to make his mark fast in hopes to make the squad for the upcoming qualifiers.

15 - Grant Fauejeau - Fadron Flight 0 Caps, 22 Years Old
Another former U21er Faujeau is not only a fan favorite, but he has long been a scorer, a finisher and is very strong in the central midfield.

16 - Karl Llana - Bayern-Algaer 2 Caps, 24 Years Old
The older of the former midfield U21ers Llana has made his mark in Bayern now he just hopes to make it around the world in the international game.

18 - Lysander Ying Uing - Bayern Phoenix 0 Caps, 17 Years Old
Lets not mince words, Ying Uing is synonymous with Taeshani soccer. To see a son of the legend of Taeshani soccer join the national team is a great thing for the Purple Knights. Surely called up just to get a look for the future, the young midfielder will hopefully follow in his fathers, Gwyn Juniper and all the great midfielders in Taeshan history's footsteps.

22 - Mark Tlumach - New Capetown Falcons, 17 Caps, 1 Goal, 24 Years Old
A rather interesting midfield problem is Mark Tlumach. A lot of chances a lot of pretty nice play. He has a lot of years ahead of him and interestingly enough the hopes for his future are pretty bright.

STRIKERS

10 - LS, Skylar Crane - Mt Ceabring Thunder 12 Caps, 2 Goals, 26 Years Old
Given a chance to make a mark during the hard stages of world cup qualifying, Crane managed to hurt himself. He also managed to impress, scoring two goals and perhaps making him a front runner for a future starting position.

11 - RS, Kyle Laravy - Mt Ceabring Thunder 57 Caps, 6 Goals, 26 Years Old
It will be interesting to see the two strikers from MT Ceabring work together on the national team. Hell the Thunder have managed to put 4 players on this squad, yet haven't managed to do much in the Premier League in forever. Interesting.

13 - Farley Baines - Mt Ceabring Thunder 0 Caps, 23 Years Old
The third striker from MT Ceabring, perhaps he needs a move to actually get a good chance at playing time.

14 - Gregory Fawkes - Real Chinchinhua 5 Caps, 3 Goals, 24 Years Old
One of the more potent strikers for the Knights managing to score in 60 percent of the games he's played the hope is that he can be a future star. Right now though hes the winner of the most recent fight for a spot on the national team, and hopefully he will continue to show his skills this Copa.

20 - Tyler Pantoum - Goidelic (Ancharmunn) 21 Caps, 7 Goals, 21 Years Old
The real future for the Knights striking corps is star U21er and the youngest player in Taeshan history to have 21 caps. He could end up crushing Brian Ying Uing's record and Ender Wiggin's if he breaks Ying Uings.

OOC: For fair RP bonus attribution, most of the characters included on this roster are from the Doctor Who TV Series (and from a couple of Dr. Who books) and are either real, as in play a part in the series, or just random variations but from the species listed in Dr. Who. Some names will come from the members' list of this thread. For more background info, most of the species should be found on Wikipedia; except for Lazarus, for which you need to search for 'The Lazarus Experiment'. For the Raxacoricofallapatorians, search Slitheen. For Silurian, see 'Cold Blood' or 'The Hungry Earth' (followed by Doctor Who if necessary). For Rory, search 'The Pandorica Opens'.

Manager: Rassilon (Species: Time Lord; the first Lord President of Gallifrey, Rassilon created the Eye of Harmony, which gave the Time Lords their time travelling ability. All in all, he became the foundation of Gallifrey, although that may all be just public relations. He had discovered the secret to immortality, but was deposed by rebellious Time Lords, before going into an eternal sleep in the Tomb of Rassilon, located in the Death Zone. Late on in the Time War, he was seemingly brought back to direct the war efforts, but as he was willing to destroy the Time Vortex and thus the whole of creation [in the Whoniverse, if not all universes], to win the Time War, the Doctor time-locked him and the whole of Gallifrey.)
Assistant Manager: Adam Loftus (Normal human, aged 70; returned to the national team after a break of a few World Cups, but has basically been the behind the many managers there have been since the creation of the team back in World Cup 49 [OOC: a bit like Stuart Pearce of England].)
Coach: Sameer Ahmad (Normal human, aged 51; is the older brother of Shabeen, and also has one of the higher goal counts, but has been much eclipsed by his brother's success.)
Coach and Team blogger:Shabeen Ahmad III (Normal Human, aged 49; has scored over 200 goals for the EL national team, and is still an inspiration to everyone, nearly taking the team to the playoffs in World Cup 58, which has his first foray into full management.)

This team were all taken out of their respective time-lines by Time Scoop technology, so where some may be dead by this time, they are alive at this point in space-time. And it was the ELFA who did this, with the help of its inventor, Rassilon.

Goalkeepers:

Blon Fel-Fotch Pasameer-Day Slitheen: Species: Raxacoricofallapatorian (family: Slitheen); refer to as Blon. Was caught impersonating MI5's Margaret Blaine in 2005 (Earth time), where she and her family members were planning to instigate World War III and turn the planet into fissile material, ready to sell. With the plan destroyed by a well-timed Harpoon missile, she managed to escape, but was the only one. She then went on to become Mayor of Cardiff, using a nuclear plant and the Cardiff Rift to attempt to escape. She did, but in doing so regressed into an egg, and was delivered to the hatcheries on Raxacoricofallpatorius for a second chance at life.

The Abzorbaloff: Species: Unknown, but related to Raxacoricofallapatorians (albeit despising them); Originating from Raxacoricofallapatorius' twin planet, Clom, this particular one came to Earth and tricked a group of humans who were searching for the Doctor to join him, but eventually absorbing them all to satisfy his hunger.

Outfielders (Basically, this lot can play anywhere on the pitch apart from in goal):

Strax: He was a Commander for the Sontaran Military, but was disgraced for an unknown reason, and then was forced to become a nurse by the Doctor, to settle a debt. Has since become a member of the Doctor's Victorian London detective team.

Reaper: Species: Reaper; Flying bat-like creatures with scythe-like tails, the Reapers are extradimensional beings, who have the ability to materialise in normal spacetime when a paradox occurs, devouring everything in the area to repair the damage. They can be stopped by material barriers, the older the better, but not permanently, and a paradox on the other side of the barrier will let them through quicker.

Madame Vastra: species: Silurian; Is another of the people who the Doctor a debt, in this case, it is for saving her from a life of crime and hiding out in the early London underground, and she in turn became a veiled Victorian detective. Part of the Doctor's Victorian detective team.

Creet: species: Toclofane/Human (from the year 100 trillion and reduced to live inside metal balls); With the universe on the brink of ending, a group of humans were building a means of escape to "Utopia". With the help of the Doctor, they managed to do so, but only found darkness, and then they cannibalised themselves into this shape. This particular one was a young boy who worked in the sanctuary.

The Doctor: species: Time Lord, age: last confirmed to be 1103 (although he doesn't really know himself). Words cannot describe this man's life, but as for football, he's had "plenty" of experience, having played a match for the King's Arm Pub League Football team and scoring more than two hat-tricks in that single match (and now World Cups 59 through 62 alongside Copa Rushmoris and Cups of Harmony). Plays mainly up front.

Captain Jack Harkness: species: unknown (very humanoid though); Jack grew up on the Boeshane Peninsula as a kid and joined the Time Agency, but quit after a few years, becoming a con man with a Vortex Manipulator (basic time travel). After meeting the Doctor during the Blitz, Jack dies on Satellite 5 in the year 200,000, but is then brought back to life by the Time Vortex, effectively becoming immortal.

Rory the Plastic Centurion: species: Auton, created by the Nestene Consciousness; refer to as Rory; Dressed up in full Roman armour, Rory has had a miserable past, one that has included being killed, followed shortly after by not being born, followed by becoming a plastic duplicate with a full human consciousness. However, he is rather hardened by all this, and also has a gun in his right hand which he won't use, but will still throw himself into anything nothing less than fully committed.

Raston Warrior Robot: species: None, it is a machine; This robot has been called 'the most perfect killing machine ever devised', being able to move faster than lightning and to kill a troop of Cybermen in seconds. Its face is featureless, and its weapons are collapsible and miniaturizable, and so concealed. For the purposes of this campaign, its weapons have been remotely disarmed, but it still moves faster than normal humans can see.

Pyrovile: species Pyrovile; A humanoid being made of pure magma and volcanic rock, Pyroviles are vicious (albeit quite slow), not to mention being about 5 times the height of average humans when fully grown. Pyroviles originated from the planet Pyrovilia, but crash landed on Earth after their home was lost. They grew in the bowels of Mount Vesuvius, giving some of the locals the power of soothsaying. They planned to convert the entire human race to Pyroviles, and in turn create a new Pyrovilia. As a consequence of his magma nature, all match balls will be lined with lead to prevent them from bursting.

Jenny: species: Human/Time Lord hybrid; The Doctor was taken by the TARDIS to Messaline, where a war was raging between humans and fish-like humanoids called Hath. The Doctor then had his hand put into a progenation machine, used to produce clones for the war, and out came Jenny. She was later on killed by a commander who refused to accept the ceasefire, but then came back to life, having died in the presence of a terraforming device. She was last seen blasting off in the rocket, looking for adventure, and now she's here.

Modified Weeping Angel: species: Weeping Angel; modifications: only becomes a statue when opposition player with the ball is looking at it; No information known as of yet.

Professor Lazarus: Species: Severely mutated human (completely not humanoid at times), refer to as Lazarus; Professor Lazarus was eighty-odd years old, but invented a machine which could manipulate a person's DNA and make them younger. The first demonstration nearly catastrophically fails, but Lazarus emerges much younger. However, his DNA was since found to be unstable, and it showed when Lazarus changed into a scorpion-like creature that drained the life energy of other humans in order to keep him young.

Dalek Sec: Species: Human Dalek (Dalek that has taken on a humanoid form); After the Battle of Canary Wharf, the Cult of Skaro, now armed with the knowledge that they were the last Daleks in existence, escaped to 1930's New York, where they planned to recreate themselves in a humanoid form, by merging symbiotically with kidnapped humans deemed to be of superior intelligence. The leader of the cult, Dalek Sec, was the first to do so, merging with the businessman behind the building of the Empire State Building to form a Human Dalek. The remaining pure Daleks stopped the program upon seeing a Sec having emotions.

Silent: species: The Silence; The Silence is a religious order that believes that Silence will fall when the first question, the oldest question in the universe, is put to the Doctor, on the fields of Trenzelor, where no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer. They attempted to bring down the Doctor through an abducted part Time Lord child (no relation to the Doctor), and kill him in a still point, thus creating a fixed point. But they failed.

Captain Tybo: Species: Judoon; refer to as Tybo; Is a Juddoon captain who crashed on Earth whilst transporting the Juddoon's most wanted criminal, Androvax the Destroyer, wanted for 12 counts of planetary destruction.

Vashta Nerada swarm: species: Vashta Nerada; The are microscopic organisms, which when swarming are completely indistinguishable from shadows, and being highly carnivorous, this plays into their hands. These Vashta Nerada number about 3,000,000, but are compacted into a humanoid form, for fairness. After a Kinitar player had his leg chewed off, the vashta nerada that played in that cup have been swapped for a vegetarian and pescetarian swarm (so fish people/giant vegetables beware).

Home stadium: Lodger City Memorial Stadium (cap. 150,000)
The national stadium of Eastfield Lodge since it was built not too long ago, it was built on the ruins of the old Lodger City, the former capital of Eastfield Lodge which was completely devastated by a nuclear disaster and floods within minutes of each other. It stands as a symbol of a new life, now even more prevalent after a horrible civil war and what not. But the new city has now become the footballing capital of Eastfield Lodge after some of the biggest teams moved in after Dillvill declared independence.

Because I can't be bothered to make a factbook, information about Eastfield Lodge can be found here, although some of it will be out of date. Including the facts that Dillvill declared independence and went back to normal reality, as did half the country's empire. And the fact that we are now located somewhere in Rushmore.

The Karditan Robber Barons

Soccer is illegal in Karditan (though gaining a larger underground support). Thus, this is a team of criminals and corrupt businessmen, who usually avoided regional competitions (the Equestria Cup, back in the old days) due to the nearby nature and thus higher chance of being caught. Entering the Copa Rushmori is a monumental gamble in the final push to get soccer legalized. All players with no further notation are human.

Starting 11

Goalkeeper- Emanuel Portico. One of the most successful petty thieves in all of Karditan (as well as being surprisingly worldly, having spent several years hiding abroad), he is incredibly agile and specializes in predicting the movements of adversaries. While his reflexes are starting to dull as he progresses into his thirties, he's still an extremely skilled shot-stopper, having been the second-best keeper during WC63 qualification (let's not talk about WC63 itself, or WCQ64). Happily married to Sweet Swing.

Left Back- Xavier Helm. A man oddly obsessed with the middle ages, he's suspected of several sword-, bow-, crossbow-, and trebuchet-related deaths. He swears that only the trebuchet ones were his fault, as he was still trying to figure out how a sexton worked. The rest he apparently just uses to hunt. Mostly deer, but it's not odd for him to bag the occasional mountain lion or bear. Plays in his full suit of armor, which slows him down (but not as much as might be expected. He's been training in that armor for a long time) but makes him much more intimidating.

Center Back- Porfirio Mendoza. The commissioner of the Karditani Baseball League, Porfirio is a true sportsman who can appreciate any sport. He honestly does not understand the abhor the rest of Karditan has for soccer, and hopes to improve the sport's reputation. He's also a brilliant strategist, heading up one of the best defenses in the world.

Center Back- Dust Pan. [Unicorn] The head janitor in Silveen Eleco's Fillydelphia estate (see below), he is incredibly quick and maneuverable--taken from years of experience darting through needlessly elaborate hallways and corridors to fix any problems that appeared anywhere on the massive grounds.

Right Back- Red Trotski. [Earth Pony] An infamous public speaker hailing from Moscolt. Hated pretty much universally for his vocal support of Communism, but isn't actually a criminal. Karditani free speech laws are pretty lenient. He has been known to make foals cry.

Defensive Midfielder- Havr Milosivek. A freelancer who spends most of his time roaming the streets of Moscolt, Havr is a generally amiable guy who isn't afraid to smash a few shins if you push his buttons the wrong way. If his Russian accent gets thick enough that you can barely understand what he's saying, you should probably stay away from him; but that doesn't happen too often. Will sometimes have to leave the pitch temporarily to respond to calls from his cousin Roman.

Midfielder- Yong-Hu Cho. Leader of the largest Triad in Neighpon. A bit of an amateur in organized crime when compared to Korzado and Carnac (see the spoiler), but still not a man you want to cross--he is far more focused on revenge and overt displays of superiority than the other two (which is very amateurish in a crime boss). Probably the most likely of the starting eleven to get red-carded. Also skilled at crossing.

Forward Midfielder- Sweet Swing. [Earth Pony] The one member of the Robber Barons who is neither a criminal nor a bad person. She's the daughter of famous Karditani golfer Tyre McIron, and happily married to Emanuel Portico. On the pitch, she's a very dynamic player, being able to fulfill most roles whenever the situation calls for it.

Forward- Lightning Heart. [Buffalo] A bison with a bad temper. Really, that's it. More assault & battery convictions than you can shake a horn at. Isn't very swift, but few people will want to be in his way if he gets up to speed.

Forward- Mario Cansetta. One of the higher-ups in Korzado's organization (see the spoiler), Mario is in charge of collecting protection fees in Sinsinatti as well as organizing the official unofficial street racing league of Karditan. He's generally good-natured (he tries to convince his clients to pay their fees because he genuinely doesn't want to beat them a new one), and is fiercely competitive. He'll take some bad shots, but it's damn hard for defenders to keep up with him.

Striker- Richard Bunson. The recently-ascended heir of a multi-billionaire oil tycoon and rumored chronic arsonist, Bunson is not a nice man. Not outright mean, but he'd walk past a crying child without a second thought. He's also 7'1", having been a star basketball prospect until the bottom fell out of Karditan's major basketball leagues, so he's a rather big target up front. More coordinated than his lanky appearance might suggest, he's very good in the air.

Manager- Morrgo-Gerrna Thunder. [Bear] A former footballer and manager from Bears Armed, Morrgo-Gerrna was caught up in a technicality of the law and needs to spend some time outside the reach of the authorities. What better way for her to safely stay on the lam while also continuing her passion for football than managing the best criminal squad (and the second-best not-entirely-humanoid squad) in the multiverse?

Offensive Coach- Korzado. [Zebra] One of the few Zebras in Karditan, Korzado runs the Illineigh Mafia. His influence can be found in almost every successful business venture in the city, as well as many in Detrot and Sinsinatti. A legion of all types of creatures serve him, and he might be the only being richer than Eleco (see below) in Karditan--but he doesn't flaunt his wealth like Eleco does. Almost all of it is re-invested, whether in businesses or bribes.

Defensive Coach- Carnac Carson. The biggest personality in Karditani crime, Carnac is the guy you go to when you need a hookup. Everyone who is anyone has grabbed a beer with him at one point or another. Is rumored to have some future-telling powers.

Financier- Silveen Eleco. The Man in Karditan. He runs Eleco Industries, the largest company in Karditan's largest industry--Electronics. He inherited the moderately-sized business from his father, Sylvester, and grew it to enormous proportions with brilliant economics and some underhanded business practices. He organized the Robber Barons and put together their entry into the World Cup, maintaining a large role on the running of the team though he no longer plays.

REPUBLIC OF WESTERN CUBA OFFICIAL NATIONAL TEAM ROSTER
Copa Rushmori XV Preview

Image

By: Vicente Lizano, the Voice of Freedom

Introduction: Things have turned ugly for Western Cuba, both domestically and in the world of sports. The country is entrenched in a war with the Page and the nation has been split between the Cubano population and the ruling Russanos. As a result the sporting community in the country has suffered tremendously and has been forever damaged. The country failed to send a team even to World Cup qualifying and barely managed to field a team in the World Baseball Classic.

Information:
Formation: 4-4-1-1

And now the country has permanently suspended its sporting program, but that does not mean the end for sports for Western Cuba. The Republic, the opposition to the Makarov dictatorship has fielded a team consisting of Western Cuban refugees from the war and exiles. Some of them being famous names in Western Cuban soccer lore. However though, the team has taken a hit in rankings. With many of the players being semi-pro and even amatuer, the team has slide from the 60s all the way to 123 in the official KPB rankings. The Copa Rushmori is the chance for these new players to shine and the veteran players to show leadership, will they succeed or will this make-shift team of exiles crash and burn?

Manager: Goyo Soto: In a huge surprise to many, the nephew of the “late” Adrian Soto, former president of the Republic has been appointed to become manager of this new “national team”. While Goyo is a life-long fan of soccer and has earned a few dozen caps with the national team, it will be interesting to see how this young man handles the opportunity of leading this group of men in these hard times.

Assistant Coach: Luciano Almansa: Its no secret that Almansa is a lover of soccer. Before he and his family had to flee Cuba, he was the manager of Tumbes FC. One of the former top domestic clubs in Western Cuba. Young like Soto, the coaching staff with be a combination of young blood. Will it prove to succeed, we can only find out.

Keeper Coach: Hector Diaz: Unlike most Cubanos, Diaz was actually safe in Western Cuba. But yet again, he proved loyal to his fellow Cubanos and has joined the resistance. Established as one of the greatest capped goalies in Western Cuban history, Diaz has a tough goalkeeper corps to work with with none of them having seen any professional caps before. Lets hope a professional like Hector shows them a few things or two before the first match.

Starting 11

#01 Keeper: Julian Mazon: You know what Mazon’s job was when he lived back in Western Cuba? A butcher....yes a butcher is playing the role of goalie for Western Cuba. No wonder we dropped sixty spots in the KPB rankings. However Mazon does have experience in goal. As a youth he actually did attend national youth camps. But his family did not let him continue his career and forced him to follow the family business as a butcher. Does Mazon still have some of his skill left in the tank from his youth? Another question that this team of misfits face.

#03 Left Back: Bautista Puente: Now Bautista is a professional. Should he be on a national team however? Absolutely not. Now let’s not bash Puente too hard. He was a fresh product from the Havana City FC youth academy, he has the chance to develop into a good player. But with the lack of training that the Republic can provide these players, things don’t look too hopeful.

#16 Left Center Back: Alejandro Rogans: Now this is the most intriguing of the bunch of players selected to represent Western Cuba at the Copa Rushmori. Mazon’s occupation as a butcher was interesting enough but do you know what Rogans was...a part-time taxi driver! Things must had been getting desperate for Goyo Soto during the selection process if Rogans was to be included in this roster. But Goyo must be seeing something that we haven’t. After all he was placed on the starting roster.

#08 Right Center Back: Gabriel Ruiz: Finally a somebody! Ruiz has been the leader of the national team for quite some time now, and for the most time has had to deal with a lacking defensive unit. And that’s something Ruiz will have to get used to even more! One of the few veteran players on this team, Ruiz will have to adjust to his unit’s lack of experience and learn to adjust for the upcoming Copa Rushmori.

#13 Right Back: Leonardo Romo: Even more intriguing than Rogans is Romo, who puts the last word in a very interesting and diverse defensive unit. While Romo is an athlete, soccer isnt quite his game. If you’re a Western Cuban basketball fan then you probably recognize Romo. That’s because he plays Power Forward for the national basketball team. Goyo must have had seen something in Romo’s size (6’ 8’’), speed and stature and is why he is on the starting roster.

#22 Left Midfielder:: Alberto Perez: One of the actual remaining players with national team experience and a handful of caps, Perez ironically is actually good friends with Goyo Soto the new manager of the national team. Will the friendship between the two amigos affect the chemistry between this team, and if so for better or worse?

#04Left Center Midfielder: Emilio Batiz: Another interesting addition on the roster, like Romo Batiz is also an athlete, just not along the spectrum of soccer. Instead Batiz is a well noted Western Cuban badminton player. How soccer relates to badminton? The world will never know.

#06 Right Center Midfielder: Santino Fres: Santiago holds the honor of having the most mind-blowing occupation of the entire roster, strangely enough Santiago is a goat farmer....enough said.

#18 Right Midfielder: Andrei Mostovoi: The only Russano on the team, Andrei is one of only two Cubans on the team who participated in the last world cup which Cuba had partaken in. A rising star, it was a shock to many when Mostovoi defected from the communist state to the republic. (Not that I’m complaining of course!)

#21 Left Forward: Tito Moreno: The captain returns! Moreno is a hero at Pays de Croix, the Saugeais club which he has spent the majority of his career at. While he has had quite the international career as well, it has come off as lacking to many national team fans. When Moreno ascend the climb to legacy in this Copa Rushmori unifying his fellow Cubans. We can only find out.

#11 Right Forward: Edgardo Mendoza: The best for last! We thought he was retired for good, but the hero has returned! Will his domination and grace on the pitch continue? That is unknown, but we all are excited to find out!

Kitsunia-Deesse is a normal-sized Empire hidden somewhere in Rushmore, like on the most legends that were originated on Unzucneru Association back in the day about where and most importantly what was beyond the Northern Bay of Andarahy. Obviously those legends were a little biased, for anything, it wasn't the gateway to the true lands of the Brazilian State of Acre, neither the gateway to the giant metropolis placed inside the Bermudas Triangle or the gateway to the Forgotten Lands.

The country's political system works in a simple way. The national leader is a female Kitsune with the same powers of a God, named La Déesse, which lives for a time period of 150 years, instead of the normal lifetime of a Kitsune, which tends to consist of 400 years. La Déesse then chooses her apostles, representants of the magical leader that take care of each of the states of the Empire. Originally, the demograph of Kitsunia-Deesse consisted solely of Kitsunes but following a civil war that would later end with the reclusion of the Empire to Rushmore, they slowly started accepting another groups of beings inside of itself. They still do not allow humans, making an exception to rare moments, such as when Armée de la Déesse faced Korriga from Dainer for the final match of the first ever Heritage Cup. While the nation has seen an increase of Basswulfes, Ourselines, Oscéans and Bravians (Animal-like creatures that tend to act as humanoids, respectively taking strong characteristics from wolves, bears, sharks and birds), the most increasing fleet of creatures have been the Psychic-type Pokemons that came from Northern Sunrise Islands. In fact, one of the national team members, Oironi Xabanaxaspatrua, is a Xatu, born inside the Kitsunia-Deesian borders, one of the first that managed to be born there.

Roster

GOALKEEPERS

1 - Adolf Dumitrescu - X Island Marauders (Taeshan) 47 Caps, 27 Years Old
The man at the end of the Antoletian line is the tall strong keeper Adolf Dumitrescu. He may not be the greatest keeper in the world, but he is very good at what he does.

23 - Martin Anghelescu - Bayern-Algaer (Taeshan) 1 Cap, 20 Years Old
The future of Antoletian keeping, Martin is a solid third string for now while he waits for his own time to come.

24 - Luca Hagi - Unattached 0 Caps, 17 Years Old
When we said Martin was the future of Antoletian keeping that was before youn hotshot Hagi came onto the scene and now has put the backups chances of being that future star in jeopardy.

DEFENDERS
2 - LB, Niculae Ricard - New Capetown Falcons (Taeshan) 52 Caps, 28 Years Old
One of the more recent additions to the starting back line, and a very good one at that Niculae is a very good fullback going forward, and very good tackler overall.

3 - LCB, Sheyenne Augustini - Real Chinchinhua (Taeshan) 29 Caps, 23 Years Old
The new starter in central defense is the tall and blond man from a little known town near Albastru. A rather dynamite defender the youngest of the four on the backline will have to learn quickly how to play with the big wigs of the world.

4- RCB, Alec Raț - Atlantea Hurricanes (Taeshan) 92 Caps, 2 Goals, 26 Years Old
The real; star of the Antoletian defense is the smaller of the two defenders and the brains of the operation Alec is in line to be the next captain, and could likely do that for the next world cup.

7- RB, Mathew Cannibus - Mierton Manatees (Taeshan) 58 Caps 1 Goal, 25 Years Old
The other fullback is also very adept at moving forward in the attack and moving backwards to help out his center backs.

12 - DF, Virgil Cobacaru - Real Atlantea (Taeshan) 7 Caps, 20 Years Old
The young defender is a very strong looking center back who many believe is the future of the Antoletian defense.

17 - DF, Percival Devine - Atlantea Hurricanes (Taeshan) 7 Caps, 19 Years Old
The other really young defender is also a hopeful to become a strong defender in the future.

21 - DF, Decebal Funar - Unattached 0 Caps, 16 Years Old
The newest defender on the team is the tall young man from the big city. Decebal is a center back for the future.

MIDFIELDERS

5 - LM, Gheorghe von Leeweonheouck - Ituributa United (Ituributa) 93 Caps, 30 Goals, 24 Years Old
The star midfielder of the Fire Ants is Gheorghe von Leeweonheouck. Plying his trade for one of the former great international club squads in Ituributa, with a flair for offense and a knack for scoring he is possibly the best hope for a great future for the Ants.

9 - CDM, Cristian Kafka - Blacklake Blues. (Taeshan) 24 Caps, 1 Goals, 25 Years Old
One of the two new midfield starters is defensive minded Cristian Kafka. Looking to be a deep lying playmaker Kafka hopes to be the man to spark big things for the Ants.

13 - CM, Gabriel Mohammed - Blacklake Blues (Taeshan) 70 Caps, 13 Goals, 26 Years Old
Another player with a potent skill set and a lots of abilities to attack and almost as much of an ability to score and create as to use his skill to take down opponents.

14 - CAM, Filip Constantinescu - Tintown Terrapins (Taeshan) 126 Caps, 69 Goals, 29 Years Old
The real leader of the team, and the real leader of the midfield is star Filip Constantinescu. Really a striker playing a midfield position he has all the skills of a target man and added to the abilities of the striker works well to create goals for himself mostly.

22 - MF, Hannibal - South Factory (Astograth) 24 Caps, 4 Goals, 22 Years Old
The other new starter plys his trade in a big club country, and has a knack for creating goal scoring opportunities and has some beautiful hair to boot.

6- RM, Sylvestre Rochambeau - Unattached 0 Caps, 16 Years Old
The midfield is ripe with youngsters and one of the newest and youngest is Rochambeau a small attacking midfielder who might one day be a star.

8 - MF, Remus Robideau - Unattached 2 Caps, 18 Years Old
This young midfielder has a bright future.

16 - MF, Constantine Robideau - Unattached 2 Caps, 18 Years Old
Ditto.

18 - MF, Awrythr Tudor - Unattached 0 Caps, 17 Years Old
A new speedy winger for the team, and one of the newest members is the young man from the south of Antoletia.

20 - MF, Raphael - Moresville FC (Taeshan) 24 Caps, 5 Goals, 21 Years Old
The real spark plug of the bench in the midfield though is Raphael who is known to come in late to create ruckus and help the team capitalize on their offensive skills.

STRIKERS

11 - CF, Hiarchratez - SK Nethers (Taeshan) 78 Caps, 36 Goals, 27 Years Old
The target man helps the smaller player get goals and thats how Hiarchratez and Constantinescu work together. The target man gets the ball and finds the speedy striker for goals, and thats how the Ants attack tends to work.

10 - ST, Anton Gregovich - New Capetown Falcons (Taeshan) 15 Caps, 6 Goals, 23 Years Old
The tall lanky striker Anton is a star in the making and off the bench does quite well. If the Ants ever switch to a two stirker attack he would be one of the favorites to be that second striker.

15 - ST, Clyde Dickens - Real Chinchinhua (Taeshan) 4 Caps, 2 Goals, 19 Years Old
Another good future star in young striker Clyde Dickens, who is more known for a Hiarchratez like small forward deal.

19 - ST, Preya Pavelski - Laketown Rangers (Taeshan) 20 Caps, 6 Goals, 26 Years Old
Another good striker is Preya Pavelski but beyond that he really gets pushed out of favor, even though he is the oldest none starter.

Formation
--Dumistrescu--
--Cannibus--Raț--Augustini--Ricard--
--Kafka--
--Hannibal--Mohammed--von Leeweonheouck--

Eura Copa Rushmori Squad

Manager: Kelly Sporadic (Audioslava), 59 years old

Kelly Sporadic first rose to stardom as a young playmaker for the Silexhera national football side, back in the qualifiers for World Cup 46, and quickly made his name as a star player for XXV de Maio in Cafundeu, where he would spend most of his career. He retired after helping Silexhera qualify for their first and only World Cup finals in cycle 48.

Kelly became manager of the Audioslavia national team for the World Cup 59 cycle, aged just forty-four thanks to the slower Cafunduese time compared to that of Audioslavia, and with a modest history of management and coaching in Cafunduese club football. His first four months brought a level of success that utterly flabbergasted his employers, reaching the final of AOCAF 34 with a bare-bones team of amateurs, including his half-Cafunduese, half-Silexheran son Weverton, who qualified for the Audioslavia national team through means unknown. He followed the AOCAF 34 final with victory in the Baptism of Fire, but could only lead the Bulls to a modest 3-3-6 record in qualifying for WC59, finishing a disappointing 6th from 7 teams, following that with a first-round exit in the Cup of Harmony.

Kelly bounced back for cycle 60, and lead a rejuvinated Audioslavia team to AOCAF 35, where they went one better than their previous foray in the tournament and emerged victorious, beating Andossa se Mitrin Vega 2-0 in the final. World Cup 60 qualifying would prove to be another steep learning curve, as the Bulls finished mid-table in their group, but the side would record their best Cup of Harmony run later on, reaching the semi-finals before falling to Taeshan.

Kelly had lead a fledgling, mostly amateur Audioslavia to two championships, a final and a semi-final in his first two cycles in charge of Audioslavia - a fantastic feat - but things would begin to turn sour for the Silexheran in cycle 61.

The Bulls failed to get out of the group in AOCAF 36, failed to improve on their previous performance in World Cup qualifying, and were all-but ousted from the Cup of Harmony after a heavy defeat to Kinitaria and a subsequent draw at Sargossa. The Audioslavian media, always quick to jump on NT managers, jumped on Kelly, and the Silexheran decided to call it quits before the final game of the tournament, thanking the supporters, players and FFA for ten eventful years as manager.

Kelly became manager of Audioslavia's former BoF rivals Licentiapacisterra for cycle 62, finding immediate success with a championship in the form of the Campionato Esportiva. Kelly then did with the cyan what he couldn't do for the Bulls - take them to the World Cup finals, qualifying via a playoff. The side amassed a paltry point in the finals, but the side would take heart from their position at the top table of world football, and had high hopes to retain their CE title but, in a battle between two former-champions, lost out in the first round to the awesomely named - if modestly talented - THRILLEDGE.

From here, like in Audioslavia, things would turn a little sour. The cyan struggled in their WC63 qualifying group, finally finishing second before entering into, and losing, a playoff with eventual runners-up Starblaydia. The Licentiapacisterran FA decided they'd seen enough of the Audioslavian as NT boss, and announced his contract would not be renewed after the next Campionato Esportiva.

Kelly's age is around fifty-eight years old, and tends to play a solid, defensive style of play focused on technique and maintaining posesssion, no doubt moulded that way after years of having to get a bunch of amateur Audioslavians to avoid humiliatingly large defeats. His 4-5-1 formation he used at Audioslavia has been retained by the claret and green and used to great effect in the WC championship winning cycle, while Kelly's own interpretation of the system, at Licen, has morphed into a more fluid 4-1-4-1.

He signed on as Euran national team manager with a three yer contract to the great surprise of commentators after the Copa Rushmori that preceded the qualifying stages of the 64th World Cup, when Eura were 13th in the world and attempting to regain the sort of form that propelled them to the final of the 60th World Cup. Three years senior of the man he replaces, Ben Randall, Sporadic has to prove now that he can work his magic again with a team that plays a free flowing, attractive style that he would appreciate – but with a higher tempo and a more attacking nature. Perhaps his biggest problem will be tightening up the defence.

Credit to Audioslava for writing up most of this biography.

Assistant: Johannes Kallstrom (Polar Islandstates), 46 years old

Signing his contract on the same day as Sporadic, also for three years, Kallstrom is the latest Polarian import to Euran football, reflecting the close admiration by Eurans of their hardy island nature and going the other way an admiration of a culture where football is deeply ingrained as a passion rather than a sport. He will be working in close conjunction with his subordinate and Head Coach, Louis Watson. Kallstrom’s role is important covering for Sporadic on occasion and playing perhaps a more pivotal role than most assistant managers do in relation to their main men. Much like in his time assistant managing the Terns, he has a big say in selection, tactical chemistry, discipline, maintaining extremely high fitness levels and a superb ability to judge the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition. He has a lot to live up to in emulating the recently resigned Dimitri Campbell, who was as respected as his boss Randall in his time helping Eura emerge on the footballing scene. No pressure then.

Godmod injuries to my players – YES (But only how the injury happens, NOT the extent of the injury)
Hand out yellow cards to my players – YES
Hand out red cards to my players – YES (One a game maximum)
Godmod other events – YES, provided you keep events within the realms of realism, so no deaths etc. If I have to RP one of my goals as coming off a goose in mid-air or anything else I deem ridiculous I will eat your fucking soul. Generic last minute supergoals from 500 yards/goalkeepers scoring hat-tricks will be given the same distasteful reaction. In fact, I should probably just say ‘fuck you’ in advance.

Copa Rushmori XV

After a relatively comfortable run through World Cup qualifying the Finals themselves were something of let-down, with a single point against Mangolana the sole prize. Defeats to old rivals Pasarga and Atlantian giants Vilita were a difficult pill to swallow and left coach Iarlaith Mag Aonghusa pondering plans for the future. Consequently the Sorthern national will have half an eye on the Sargossan development squad currently in action at the Olympics in Liventia. In the immediate Mag Aonghusa has elected to entrust a Copa defence to the very players who lifted the title two year ago, with only Javíer Sisón and César Madruga added to the mix. But he’s left his charges in no doubt that they’re playing for their futures as well as a trophy.

The intriguing structure of this edition of the Copa makes it slightly tricky to plot a course through to the final. Sargossa, as reigning champions and the region’s second ranked side, are seeded and the first round draw has thrown up a fixture against Karditan in Arçon. The two nations have no real sporting rivalry, football itself actually being a crime in Karditan, but the match does have a certain amount of bite. The political elite back in Soluca have spent months watching Sargossa's economic power gradually eroded by the Karditanis, with numerous key contracts in a variety of sectors stolen away by our Copa opponents. They will certainly be hoping that their Corsairs put the aptly named ‘Robber Barons’ back in their place.

Coach

Iarlaith Mag Aonghusa (Sorthern Northland)
Much travelled tactician who coached his homeland to back-to-back World Cup titles. Led Sargossa to the World Cup at the first time of asking.

Assistant Coaches

Principal coaching staff remain, providing much needed continuity. Meaning Hernán Ojeda holds on to an assistant coach slot while Israel Navarro continues to work with the goalkeepers and Javier Valentín oversees the fitness work.

Talent

GK: 1. Ezequiel Medrán (27) – Sporting San Marquez
Picked out by Tejera, who knows a thing or two about goalkeeping, as one to watch during his tenure in charge at the Estadio Silva. Now first choice for a Sporting side that finished as Liga de Fuego runner’s up.
GK: 13. Omar Cuerdo (33) – El Nacional
Something of a late bloomer after plying much of his trade in the murky lower levels of Sargossan football. Signed to be a backup at the Independiente but when injury gave him a chance in the first team he made the position his own.
GK: 25. Silvio Romero (30) – Sportivo Cordova
Mr reliable at the back for Sportivo. He’s not showy, he’s not spectacular but everything Silvio does tends to be right.

DR: 2. Mauro Maidana (28) – Sporting San Marquez
One of the stars of Nuevo Onwere’s excellent season. A first call up to the national side coupled with a big money move across the city to Sporting are the just rewards for a fine year.
DRC: 5. Leandro Gonzàlez (31) - El Nacional
Former captain of the Under-21 side who has become an integral member of the senior squad. Became the youngest El Nacional captain in their history.
DLC: 6. Javíer Sisón (27) – Sportivo Cordova
A pacy left sided defender who was once tipped as a future star but whose career never really took off. Finally finding some consistency after settling down in Cordova.
DL: 3. Lautaro Formica (30) – Sporting San Marquez
The second son of Marquezian immigrants who couples sound defensive instincts with a wand of a left foot. Clocked up twelve goals from set pieces last season.
DRC: 12. Matías Sosa (25) – Liria Prizren (Mytannion)
A free scoring centreback whose temperament has been known to get him in a spot of bother. But they quite enjoy a bit of fire in the belly in Mytannion so he should fit in just fine.
DC: 14. Diego Jara (33) – El Nacional
A rare thirty plus-er in the El Nacional lineup whose experience became crucial as the campaign went on. Diego rose to the occasion and helped his side to Globe Cup qualification.
DLC: 19. César Madruga (25) – Dunas Del Sol
A versatile defensive player whose form in the league earns him a first call up to the national side.
DR: 21: Gonzalo Soriano (30) - El Nacional
Pacy rightback with a devil of a cross on him. Has a good understanding with club mate Gonzàlez and will continue to push hard for a starting berth.

DMC: 4. Lucas Ramís (29) – Sporting San Marquez
Key member of a Sporting side looking to re-establish themselves in the Liga de Fuego.
AMR: 7. Javier Jerez (26) – Sporting San Marquez
A diminutive winger with plenty of technique but a willowy frame that struggles to compete with the game’s more physical practitioners.
MC: 8. Rodrigo Defederico (27) – Oyardo FC (Astograth)
Was the most highly prised transfer target of the close season and object of desire for all the nation’s big clubs. But the playmaker turned down the likes of Sporting San Marquez and Ciudad Soluca to make the move to Astograth.
AML: 11. Alejandro Echeverría (33) - Ciudad Soluca
This boy's a bit special and we're not talking in the crash helmet and crayons sense. Stick him anywhere in the attacking third and he can make something happen. Retains the captain's armband despite the change in coach.
AMRC: 15. Rodrigo Hoyos (29) – Sporting San Marquez
‘Hot Rod’ spends a little too much time making headlines for his off field antics for most coaches liking but you can’t argue that the boy has talent. Another key member of Sporting’s strong season.
MLC: 16. Kike Galán (28) – Sporting San Marquez
Miniature midfield dynamo whose influence in the centre often belies his diminutive stature.
AML: 18. Sebastián Canteros (26) - Perntav Marna TU (Earent)
Started life as a striker before the youth coaches at the Ciudad Deportiva decided that such crossing ability was wasted in the centre. Has joined Toranzo in Earent.
DMC: 22. Matías Escobar (25) – Marinos Metropolis (Valladares)
A young midfield anchor man who can run all day long. Statistically the best performing Sargossan in the Liga de Fuego last season and hoping a recent move to Valladares will win him a national side starting place.
AMLC: 24. Ivan Ávila (25) – Ciudad Soluca
An understudy for Sargossan international Alejandro Echeverría at the Estadio Generalissmo Joaquín Delgado who is starting to show why he’s regarded do highly at his club.

FLC: 9. Gelson Di Santo (25) – Ciudad Soluca
A real find from the Ciudad academy who is used sparring for both club and country but tends to rise to the opportunity when given it. Can play up front or wide on the left.
FC: 17. Mariano Estrada (28) – Sporting San Marquez
A familiar figure towards the top of the Liga de Fuego scoring charts. Was seen as something of an untouchable in the squad but the emergence of Ferreyra could change that.
FC: 17. Federico Ferreyra (26) – Gortz United (Astograth)
Another gem unearthed by the scouts in San Marquez who was Nuevo Onwere’s top scorer as they finished in a more than creditable 13th place in the Liga de Fuego. Impressed the Astograthian scouts during what was an otherwise underwhelming World Cup qualifying campaign.
FRC: 20. Lucas Andrada (34) - Turoki Tide (Vilita)
A talented lad plucked from SuperLiga midtable obscurity by sharp eyed V-League scouts. Now plying his trade in Turoki after spells at Kiiarana and Yeaddin Owls. Recently helped his club to victory at the 40th Globe Cup and subsequent AlfaCredit Super Cup. Which probably constitutes a good season.
FC: 23. Agustín Caruzzo (29) – Dwile Warriors (Apox)
Top scorer at the Bonilla Arena as Alianza Jucaro squeezed into the Globe Cup qualification places. Has since moved to Apox.

Quick hosting turnaround makes locals, economy, FA happy

Not two months after the successful running of the World Cup, Saugeais has already put up the banners welcoming members of the Rushmori nations for the 15th Copa Rushmori football tournament. The Football Association of Saugeais, having hosted the 7th iteration previously, were voted over Falcus and a joint bid from Kitsunia-Dessee and Charruterra, and they have chosen to host this event so quickly after the World Cup because of a few reasons. "Well, monetary gains for the national and local businesses are a plus," said recently elected FA chairman Michael Francis. "The more people that are drawn to the country, the more they are prone to shopping and spending, putting more money into the economy. Saugeais is a welcome tourist country, with the sandy beaches in the coastal capital to the magnificent shopping districts and wonderful attractions within the many host cities. While not much profit is to be had on our side of things, what little the FA does collect is still profit towards funding the next season's leagues and cup competitions."

This Copa will be a historic one for sure. The FA has decided to do away with the traditional multi-group first round, instead going for a radical Casaran style system that will see the entrants pitted in 5 matches against varying opponents based on Strength of Opponents and Strength of Victories. "It's something we've been looking at for quite some time," said Francis. "The FA have made multiple inquiries to the president of the Legalese FA, Robert Percival, in aiding us setting this up, as they are the end all be all in this situation. Their FA has run many different tournaments, including two AOCAFs, Cups of Harmony, and several Baptisms of Fire using this system, and they have been very willing to impart their wisdom on the Casaran system to us here in Saugeais. Mr. Percival has stated that he would love to see more and more nations using the Casaran system, and that us bringing it to Rushmore is 'a good start.'"

The draw was quite a perplexing one, as teams were placed into two separate pots based on the newly formed Rushmore ranks, and labeled as "seeded and unseeded." Saugeais was in the seeded pot, and were first out of the gate drawing against Beaverriver from the opposite pot. They have only competed in one previous Copa Rushmori, the 12th version held in Polar Islandstates, where they so happened to be in Saugeais' group. The match was noted for the Knights coming off surprisingly flat, yet they still won by the final of 3-2. That Copa was the first for Powell Pieran, current manager of the Knights. He gave a short message about them after learning they would be his first opponent this Copa:

Years come and go, FAs grow and prosper or wither away, but one thing is for sure: Beaverriver now are the same as they were back then, and that's not saying much. -Powell Pieran

Saugeais will be coming in making 5 changes to their World Cup roster, namely including winger Barnabé Perreault from the Atlantea Hurricanes in Taeshan and striker Gerard Kuchler, playing for Teva F.C. in United Gordonopia. This will also be the first tournament that goalkeeper Yancy Wash will start ahead of Vincent James. Vincent had a very streaky run of form during the World Cup, and it was noted by Pieran when announcing his lineup. "It's time to give another player a chance," he said. Carson Turnbull returns to the squad after a couple years absence, filling in for the recently internationally retired François Rousseau. While Chad Ash and former captain Daley Hart have been replaced by young substitutes Lambert Victore from Gilley and Jerred Cornett from Bloomington. Jourdain Plamadon and Courtney Hedley have been upgraded to the starting eleven, after showing promise in their substitution efforts during the World Cup.

With the opening matches just days away, 16 Saugeain stadiums, including Stade Amaechi Olsen for the final match, are all ready to house 32 nations worth of players, fans, and dignitaries. Whether or not the Stade will include Saugeais for its finale remains to be seen, but for Pieran, Francis, and the rest of the nation, they can only hope.

Beaverriver Copa Rushmori XV Roster

The Beaverriver Soccer Federation is content with Zach Heckinson as the National team coach despite earning 1 point in the recent Cup of Harmony. The national team's latest gathering was for the 9th Friendly Cup in Maklohi Vai. There was no regular starters from the normal national team and the cup was a chance for those selected to shine and hope for being part of the national team in bigger tournaments like the Copa Rushmori. Some of those players succeed in the tournament and now part of the roster. Some of those players are Ornald Wesley, How Long, and Kim Mo-ang(even though he was part of the roster in the Cup of Harmony). Other players were called up due to their fantastic work in the International FireStorm Cup. Those players along with Mark Baker and Ian Stopper helped Wes TY win their first international title in both club history and the nation's history. Farley Sunder made some absolute excellent saves including two saves in the penalty shoot out against Toddinlofer. Luke Nigel was fantastic and would of earned Man of the Tournament if it wasn't for Mark Bakers amazing play in the competition. Nico Spearing was the sun of Wes TY by making key passes and preventing chances for the opponent to score.

Les Royales Roster and Information for Copa Rushmori XV, In Saugeais

This tournament, the 15th Copa Rushmori, marks the return of Les Royales to football after World Cup 66. (OOC: The tournament should take place before the Olympics in Sicoutimont, but a few Olympians might miss matches if the team advances far enough.) So, the normal questions may arise: 'What group are we in? What's our schedule?' Well, we just don't know. You see, this tournament is being ran with the Casaran tournament system. That means that we'll play 5 matches against opponents based on how well we've done so far, and all the teams will then be ranked. The top 16 will advance to the playoff rounds. So, it makes every match worth something, as you are playing against the teams that you will need to beat. So , without further ado, Les Royales roster and information!

Sicoutimont's Royales enter CRXV with a no changes from the World Cup roster. The keepers, Dion and Bergeron, go it alone after Herbert Georges' retirement last season. Dion is still the starter, but you might see Bergeron get into a few more key games after his performance in the training camp. On defense, Yves Savard, an expert on many different Mytanar destinations, has been around in that league, but he'll always be the solid veteran presence on the back end for the national team until he retires. Neal Kent, Loic Leduc and Fernard Girard look to improve themselves even more this qualifying tournament, they'll be the other guys on the back end. The first three midfield listed (Orbale, Urbaille, Richelieu) will likely be the stalwarts on the core. And then there's Alex Gannot. Mytanar Player of the Year, Marc Denis may finally have realized that he is one of the best offensive talents on the team. Listed as a mid and a striker, it's expected him and Girard Giroux, who formerly played the mid position, might switch in certain games, or he'll play as an extra striker. Lucas Dandenault joins the squad again, he'll probably be the striker that sits on the sideline, subbed into the game with Stan Sarault later on. Giroux, Savard and Allonts are the big three on the team, and are expected to continue to lead the team. In reserves, 3 are the same as last time, with two 17 year olds added to the roster, in de Terre and Ipe Istoval Rodriguez. Overall, this team will continue to be a high-flying, smooth, offensive team. Now, on to what we know of the schedule:

MD1-Sicoutimont vs Alitaba, @ Pitape Stadium, Pitape, Saugeais

Beyond then is unknown. The first match is against Alitaba, a nation who has not made their roster public yet. They are an unranked opponent, but will surely be tough. We'll have more updates for you from Saugeais as soon as we get them, so tune in here!

Trevor: Hello, Valladares! And welcome to another broadcast of the nation's premier football-focused radio show: Around the Rectangle, here in your favourite radio station, Radio Valladares. I'm Trevor Ramsey and this time we're broadcasting live from Saugeais, where the fifteenth Copa Rushmori is about to kick-off. And here is my co-host, Andrés Santamaría!

Andrés: Hi Trevor, and hi everyone. Yes, today's topic in our show is the Copa Rushmori, with Saugeais coming off a successful hosting of the last World Cup to receive the best 32 Rushmori national teams, who will be playing in order to claim the title of best national team in the region. And of course, the Valladar national football team will be there.

Trevor: Yes, however, I'm afraid that Euran coach Dimitri Campbell will be coming to this tournament under a lot of pressure from fans and media alike after the resounding failure to qualify to the last World Cup, and I don't think his decision to play this Copa with the U-21 squad was well received, either. Is it me or perhaps he doesn't want to win the Copa?

Andrés: Valladares isn't the kind of nation that pays too much attention to the Copa, being honest. There is a common denominator in every Valladar campaign at the Copa Rushmori and it is that, apart from Copa Rushmori X where we made the quarterfinals at home, we always tend to do modest campaigns. Oh, and this time we're sending the U-21 squad again...we didn't do much the last time we sent a bunch of young guns to this competition.

Trevor: Well, if you mean Copa Rushmori XIII, those guys were simply too innocent and were there just to earn some experience on the pitch, not to mention the fact we were placed in a fairly tough group. This time I got the feeling it's gotta be a different story.

Andrés: And this Copa Rushmori will actually be a whole different story, as the Saugeain organizers decided to break away from the traditional Copa format and will be using the unorthodox Casaran system, with all teams playing a first stage of 5 matches against teams with relatively similar performances, and after that, they'll sort all the teams and the best 16 will advance to a traditional knockout stage. The VFA have shown a strong dislike to this format but we'll see what happens if the guys manage to shock all and sundry.

Trevor: True. They took the flight to Montbenoit without much fanfare, with an already-warned coach, but the thing is that I'm confident they can do a decent showing. This is a team brimming with energy and more mature than the one that travelled to Ancharmunn for Copa Rushmori XIII. I can see some of them at the starting lineup for the next World Cup qualifying campaign.

Andrés: And many of them have already become key players for their respective teams. For example: Frank Rozenthal, who doesn't seem like he's tired of scoring goals for Olympique de Fontvielle, is now more mature and will bear the captain armband, Christian Núñez has also grown up and has proven to be a decent replacement for Artzeiz Zornoza at AS Bezieres, while Arnold Martins is now a starter for Edmonton. As for the midfielders, Santiago Rojas, Peter Frau, and Jonathan Bosetti are all promising prospects and just need to showcase themselves in order to find the appropriate springboard for a career abroad, while defender Patrick Courtois has helped Montreux in their meteoric ascension to the top half of the league. I think we can dream.

Trevor: How about we talk about our first match while we're at it?

Andrés: The Copa Rushmori for Valladares will start tomorrow at 17:30 Eastern time, with "Les Gones" facing the team from Ark at New World Stadium in the city of Chaux, not too far from Montbenoit, where we are recording this broadcast. Curiously enough, this nation may be reminiscent of Cassadaigua, in the sense that women are the dominant sex. And yes, their national team is 100% female.

Trevor: We don't know anything about their style of play, apart from the fact that they're going to present a primarily defensive formation. A 5-4-1 with Olga Kassandrasdottjr playing the role of sweeper and Kitti Lucindasdottjr being the only player up front. They'll be likely relying on counterattacks.

Andrés: I should point out that unlike their senior counterpart, this Valladar squad doesn't have many resources regarding speed. Rozenthal plays at a slower pace than let's say...Yoan Gignac or Jean-Pierre de Roux, and Bosetti and Canalave Dragons midfielder Frank Allenby aren't exactly the fast midfielders who can kill you with just speed by the wings and a cross. I'll predict this to be a too close to call affair which should a victor emerge, the win will be by just a narrow gap.

Trevor: Don't forget that Rozenthal is an expert at taking advantage of the rival's mistakes. He's one of those players who can make you win a match, no matter how undeserved it may be.

Andrés: And this is all for today. Tune in tomorrow's programme to hear all the details about Valladares' début in this Copa Rushmori. Also, with a new Liga-1 season on the horizon, we'll talk a bit about the Canalave Crown match to be played next Saturday afternoon between MA and Olympique de Fontvielle, and more!

Trevor: Bye-bye everyone!

Justin Bailey was used to the grilling, and he received plenty following his tenure as coach of the 95X Under-15 Soccer team. More followed after getting a pink slip despite finishing third by defeating Farfadillis at their home stadium. And yet more as he gets ready for Salem Oregon's first-ever international game, against Dixhuitiles.

"No, it's not a step down," he explains to reporters in Saugeais as coach of the Salem Oregon national team, competing in its first international tournament.

"This is a position of respect, regardless of who's flag is on the lapel pin," he concludes.

"Did your decision to accept the position here hinge on this being an all-mens' team?" the next reporter asks.

"No," Bailey immediately replies. "We have a great system in 95X that puts both men and women on the field at the same time. I didn't come to Salem Oregon to tell them how to run their player selection."

Salem Oregon's main difference from 95X? It's teams are all-male, without the quirks 95X is known for. It's for all purposes, a traditional association football/soccer team.

"What players will we see a lot of?" Another reporter asks of Bailey.

"I have an entire team full of talent," Bailey starts, "I'm equally as comfortable with Justin or Richard taking the shot, or my backfield defending the pitch before our opponents have a chance to score. And, remember, this is our first international match, ever."

The grilling continues while the reporters focus on Bailey more than the team. It will take some great field work and goals to put the spotlight on the field where it belongs.
“We want you to visit our State of Excitement often. Come again and again. But for heaven’s sake, don’t move here to live.”—Tom McCall, 1971, Governor of Oregon (R) 1967-75.
