So, here are the Llamaland Tigers, top-25 in the world, Fourth place in the first International Baseball Slam and the pride of Super-Llamaland! (When they're playing, otherwise it's the soccer team)

Changes from WBC 26 are struck out!

Starting Lineup (Danks, Mills, Moreno, and Roberts are lefty; Bradley is a switch hitter)

1. SS Darren Bradley- Age 29, #15 (Can also play: None): Best contact hitter in the Llamaland Baseball League. Good speed/defense and veteran presence. Good power for his relatively small size.

2. 2B Max Danks- Age 24, #2 (3B, SS) A scrappy player who can steal often and plays amazing defense. Good hitter, but could improve.

3. 3B Alex Cameron- Age 29, #7 (None) A former benchwarmer, Cameron underwent a Jose Bautista- like transformation. Now is a fantastic 30-30 type hitter with good contact. Defense needs work. Now with knee issues!

4. 1B Danny Mills- Age 30, #13 (None) Mills, a power hitter, loves pulling it to right field. Average contact hitter but when he hits it, he hits it FAR. Also a sterling defender at first.

5. RF Chris Harder- Age 28, #30 (LF) Chris Harder may be just a slightly-above-average hitter, but his throwing arm is one of the best his team has ever seen. Below average speed.

6. CF Brett Rochester- Age 23, #0 (OF) Rochester is the kind of player who bunts himself onto first, steals second and third, and then tags up for home on a pop fly just out of the infield to the opposing shortstop. Without bunt singles, he's hitting .279, but with them, he's .305. He can also slap it over defenders when they pull in. Without these kind of hits, he's hitting .265. Average everything else.

7. LF Jake Addams- Age 25, #1 (OF) Almost as fast as Rochester.

8. C Tyler Thomas- Age 37, #3 (1B) Bryant Moreno, Age 28, #3: A pretty-good-at-everything catcher with a large personality. (Throws righty, bats lefty)

9. DH (If needed) Keith Dawson- Age 22, #24(C/1B) Young and raw but with fantastic power.

BENCH

Jim Atkins, OF, #18, 33: A veteran who beats lefties to death: .381 against them compared to .235 versus righties. A good option for pinch-hitting, with a great arm in right, left or center.

Drew Stephenson, IF, #11, 28: He can play third, short, second, and left. Good contact, speed, and defense, everything else is below-average. Will get more time with Cameron's health problems.

Duncan Roberts, IF, #18, 25 Trevor Matthews, OF, #18, 18: A young outfielder with world class talent and a switch hitting bat. Matthews' swing is the purest in the Llamaland Minor League at any level, but his baseball IQ could use work.

Manager- Joe McKenzie, 54
Hitting Coach- Steve Mays, 57
1B Coach- Nick Horry, 44
3B Coach- Stan Evans, 66
PITCHING COACH- Thomas Yaft, 42
BULLPEN COACH- Chris Evans, 41
BULLPEN CATCHERS- Don George, 36, and Jack Aaron, 45.

The Llamas are just off their first playoff appearance in the WBC.
Thomas Yaft, the old manager, was disappointed after his ouster as coach. Yaft, a former New Llama Cyclones starter who won 219 games in his career, will become pitching coach. Pitching coach Chris Evans will become bullpen coach to adjust to the retirement of Vinny Marrero. Bullpen catcher Ray Nelson was signed by the Cyclones and decided to chase his old major-league dream after a successful minor league career. In his place is the recently retired Don George. The new manager is former New Llama Cyclones manager Joe McKenzie (who complied a 1867-1211 over nineteen years) who agreed to be international team manager.

PITCHING

Starters

R Evan Masorka- 27, #43- Low-to-mid nineties fastball, nasty high-80s sinker and splitter, looping low-70s curveball. He's so good with his other pitches and command that he doesn't even need a changeup. His career changed after the development of the final pitch.

L Ryan Lucas- 30, #44- He's made a career of his amazing curveball. A quote from catcher Chris Romatini: "It completely skips the strike zone. It starts on one edge and ends on another." He also has a nice fastball in the low nineties. But he can't seem to stay healthy for more than two starts.

L Leo Davis- #51, 26- He's been almost always injured, but has a golden arm. He throws triple-digit fastballs and mid-nineties Mariano Rivera cutters. Who needs offspeed?

R Allan Roswell- #36, 38- He has seven different pitches- fastball, 2-seamer, sinker, slider, cutter, changeup, and eephus. The latter is rarely used but generates punchouts.

R Chris Lee- #31, 27 R Rick Jackson, #50, 31- Once a Long Reliever who got spot starts, Jackson has a high-80s 2-seamer as his out pitch and usually throws that, a low-70s curve, and a knuckle curve in the high 60s. Nobody knows why he bothered learning two curveballs.

RELIEF
R Rick Jackson, #50, 31 L David Mendello, #31, 30- Mendello has the worst control on the team. But with a nose-diving slurve in the high-80s and a cut fastball in the low-90s, when it goes where he wants it to, it is unhittable.

L Nick Carter, Lefty Specialist- 24, #73- Lefties can't hit his low-80s sinker. Most people can hit his mid-80s fastball (besides lefties who are thinking sinker)

L Aaron Raymond/R Alex Carson- Seventh Inning- Raymond- #53, 23: Aaron Raymond features a low-90s 2-seamer and great control. Has gone through four breaking balls looking for the right one and can throw all four to keep you off balance- curveball, slider, cutter, and splitter. Carson- 23, #53: Alex Carson has the same 2-seamer and same control. However, he has a good mid-80s slider and that's it.

L Darren Mueller/L Evan Daye/R Robby Irving- Setup: Mueller- #-3, 24: A slightly cuckoo pitcher (See: Jersey Number) who is one of two pitchers with an eephus on the team. mid-80s 2-seamer, low-60s eephus. Daye- #55, 27: A lefty killer, Daye has an amazing low-90s cutter. That's it. He has no injury troubles or stamina issues, but only one pitch means being whacked in the fourth inning.
Irving: 28/#82- Robby Irving used to be a starter with a low-90s fastball, mid-80s sinker, low-80s slider, and low-70s curveball. Then he got injured and moved to the bullpen.

Nick Bowden- Closer: High 90s-fastball, low 90s- splitter. #43

Exhibition Field, Super-Llamaland versus New Argentina, twenty six days earlier

"Darren Bradley's up. Cutter in for a strike...Fastball misses low...Slider up and in, that's 2-1...Bradley steps back in...pitch and a line drive, deep left center, going back is Reynolds...GONE! Three-run dinger Darren Bradley to make it 10-2!"

Super-Llamaland versus New Boston, twenty-one days earlier

"Here's the 2-and-2 delivery...the pitch and STRIKE THREE! Evan Masorka with a complete game for a 6-2 victory!"

Super-Llamaland at Oceanside Messenger, eighteen days earlier

"The pitch on the way. Line drive, that's a base hit into right center! SCORING is Danks! SCORING is Cameron! Coming around third and scoring is Danny Mills! A standup double for Chris Harder to break open the game, 8-4 in the eighth!"

Super-Llamaland against Rellif, ten days earlier

"Swing and a miss, strike three!....Strike three called!...SWING and a miss!...Cutter inside, STRIKE THREE!...Strike three again!...Another strikeout...SWINGGGG and a miss!...A nasty cutter for his eighth strikeout!...Fastball down and in, did he swing...YES! Strike three!....SWING AND A MISS! NUMBER ELEVEN...5-1 lead, Masorka has struck out eleven-SWING AND A MISS, that's TWELVE!...Called strike, make it thirteen!...Fastball in...RINGS HIM UP!...SIXTEEN STRIKEOUTS FOR EVAN MASORKA, and THE TIGERS WIN 8-1!"

Super-Llamaland against OrigamiMaster, six days prior

"Black throws a fastball inside...strike three, as the Tigers fall to OrigamiMaster by a score of seven to six. That ends the seven-inning exhibition. They've had a nice run, but not against real international quality yet. But now they find it and lose to it."

Everybody knew the Tigers could crush bad teams. But these were not bad teams. Could the Tigers continue their successful international streak despite a few injuries that would hamper star players Alex Cameron and Ryan Lucas?

RP Permissions:
Choose my runscorers: Yes
Follow my lineup: Yes (unless I indicate the line-up will deviate from the original, in which case follow what I say)
Follow my Pitching Rotation: Yes (unless I indicate previously that the rotation will not be followed, in which case follow whatever I say)
Godmod scoring events: See note below
RP injuries to my players: Yes (note - this previously said no, but I changed my mind and edited the post).
Godmod injuries to my players: See note below
Eject my players: Yes, but only one and optionally the manager, if you want to eject more, you can if you eject an equal number of your own players. For instance, you can eject two of my players plus the manager if you eject at least one of your own.
Godmod other events: See note below
Designated Hitter at home: Yes

Note: You may godmod anything related to the game, no matter how extreme, provided I am allowed to do the same. If you godmod, I will take it that you are granting me permission to do the same (in the same category), even if it says otherwise in your permissions. For instance, if your RP permissions allow me to godmod injuries, you may too in our games. If your RP permissions allow me to godmod scoring events, you may do the same. Same goes for all other events.

As I indicated, my style modifier is -4. Our national anthem is "Gregory, Gregory, Lord Almighty" and our home stadium is Lord Almighty Gregory Baseball Stadium, capacity 2,500. We occasionally play big games in Lord Almighty Gregory National Stadium, which is normally used for soccer. It seats 228,617 for soccer and most other events (such as mandatory public post-execution burnings), but when reconfigured for baseball, that total decreases to 225,000 or so. However, almost all our games are played in the dedicated baseball stadium since the sightlines are much better and baseball isn't popular enough to justify the larger stadium. The pre-tournament exhibition between the national baseball team and a team of prisoners who were forced to play was played at the larger stadium, however, and 225,000 citizens were randomly selected by lottery to attend. We did not give them a choice - if they failed to attend, they would face a life of slave labor. 391 citizens were punished in this way.

When seats are unsold at the smaller stadium, we use the forced lottery system to make people attend, which we also do for other national team sports when games do not sell out.

Lineup:

2B Slave 9DHUAS (Bats Right/Throws Right)
C Construction Worker XUAHAUAH (R/R)
1B Slave JJIASDES (L/R)
LF Soldier JSIAISKS (L/R)
DH Barber LIEUIUSH (S/R)
RF Lumberjack JSUUSI99387 (R/R)
3B Military General Rupert McGee (L/R)
SS Military General Rufus McGee (S/R)
CF Executioner 9D8AH (L/L)

Pitching Rotation (all pitchers bat the same way they throw except if noted)

Of course, most of our players are commoners and therefore go by their government Identification sequence rather than a real name.

The Levivania national team was preparing for there second consecutive year in the international baseball slam, last year was a disappointment but they were back and ready to go. Captain Levi Goldman and star Pitcher Elvis Hernandez had spent days training super hard. Everyday they would go for a three mile warm up run, then Elvis wold practice pitching balls at Levi. Then, they would lift weights. Levi could bench press 240. This was the first time the Levivania National Baseball team was in Sangit but not the first time Leivvania athletes were in Sangti. Almost all Levivania teams had been in Sangti except the baseball team, the team was excited. The follwoing night Ben Ballmer the Levivania national team's short stop and Levi Goldman got into a bar fight with some emebrs of a rival team. Levi's eye was swollen but it was not a big deal. This could be his big moment, he kept doing bench press reps and was excited for the first game!

Group B Preview!

Postby Super-Llamaland » Fri Jul 19, 2013 10:20 am

Group A
Sova Empire 25ers
OrigamiMaster Frogs
Sangti Indios
Gregoryisgodistan Bat Slaves

Group B
Unolian National Team
Llamaland Tigers
Levivania Dohikceys
Costa Luna Royals

Schedule
MD1: 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3
MD2: 4 vs 3, 1 vs 2
MD3: 2 vs 4, 3 vs 1
MD4 to MD6: Reverse of MD1 to MD3

What a tough tournament this could be. With inaugural participants Levivania and Costa Luna with the Tigers in this group along with the Unolian squad from Jahistic Unified Republic, the Tigers could fall before the semifinals, as they did the tournament before.

Alex Cameron, who batted .417 with 6 RBIs in the last IBS, is still rehabbing a minor knee injury and could miss the first two games. He'll join Ryan Lucas, who never regained international consistency after an injury at the WBC lead him to a 0-3 record and a 7.76 ERA in this WBC/IBS cycle. Lucas will miss his first start.

The MVP of the Oceanside U-21 Cup was Trevor Matthews, who joined the team for the first IBS. Matthews hit .556 with 12 RBI's in eight games. In the U-21 Cup before that, he batted .600 with 14 RBI's in nine games.

Ace Evan Masorka had a dominant WBC23-25 with a 4-2 record in his seven starts. He pitched 45 innings and punched out 51. His ERA was a fantastic 1.20.
But Masorka hit a rough patch in his five IBS/WBC26 starts, going 2-3 with a 5.76 ERA. In 30 innings, he has a 4.50 ERA and walked eighteen.

Our opening day ceremony against Levivania is coming up now! Tune in on Llamaland Sports Channel, or Radio AM 1050!

Gregoryisgodistan will play its group stage home games at Lord Almighty Gregory Baseball Stadium. If we make the semifinals (and final) games will be at Lord Almighty Gregory National Stadium for the bigger crowd. As usual, forced attendance system will be used if necessary, but the first home game against Sangti and the game against OrigamiMaster to wrap up the group stage have sold out on their own. We have also sold out 95% of the home team allocation to the Sova Empire game, and we still have plenty of time. If the stadiums are not full, it is because the visiting team did not sell out their allocation. Our crowd is full, by force or not.

Our stadium dimensions, in feet:

Lord Almighty Gregory Baseball Stadium:

LF Line: 314
LCF: 378
CF: 409
RCF: 381
RF Line: 319

Lord Almighty Gregory National Stadium has weirder dimensions, since it was originally designed as a soccer stadium and we had to move the stands around but it still isn't perfect:

LF Line: 345
LCF: 369
CF: 423
RCF: 350
RF: 300

It appears Spokesperson 61481 of the Gregoryisgodistan sports department made erroneous statements about the tickets for the semifinals and final. The sorts bureau and government do not tolerate mistakes. Spokesperson 61481 has been executed via slow slicing then decapitatiom while still alive. His head was made into a bomb which was thrown through the family home to blow it up while the family was chained inside. The dead bodies will be burned tonight in National Stadium in a public ceremony. Roughly 225,000 citizens have been selected for mandatory attendance, while the rest are required to watch it on state TV.

Lord Almighty Gregory released a statement saying "we do not tolerate errors from anyone. spokesperson 61481 erred, so we executed that traitor. Others will be dealt with similarly if need be."

(Tomorrow and Today are lefties, Who is a switch hitter, all else are righties)

The State Sports Network in Gregoryisgodistan would like to know whether Catcher Randy Today throws lefty, or only bats lefty. A left-handed catcher would be very unusual, and The station would like to note it in its broadcast if that is the case. A left-hand batting catcher is nothing odd, however, so that hardly deserves mentioning.

A Closer Look at Coughman Stadium

Postby Kingdom of Costa Luna » Sat Jul 20, 2013 7:26 pm

Image

Coughman Stadium (not to be confused with Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals) is the home of the Costa Luna Royals. Coughman Stadium is located in the capital city of Lake Monroe. The stadium is set on the banks of Lake Monroe and can be accessed by land or sea. There is no permanent seating in the stadium, but it is five Lunettas per person to attend the stadium. All tickets are BYOS (Bring Your Own Seat). Boats are charged thirty Lunettas.

As for the dimensions of Coughman Stadium, it is 360 feet to the wall in left field, 600 feet in dead center field, and 360 feet in right field. However, distance is not the biggest problem for hitters. The blue sections of the wall are each 75 feet high, the red sections are each 60 feet high, and the yellow section is 45 feet high except in center field which is 30 feet high. The purple foul poles, both 360 feet away are in play, if hit under 75 feet above the ground.

Coughman Stadium is notoriously difficult to score runs if a team has only power hitters. To win at Coughman Stadium, speed and pitching is crucial. Costa Luna, which had two no-hitters last International Baseball Slam along with multiple inside-the-park home runs in the much smaller fields in Shadowbourne, is expected to have a huge home field advantage, which could knockout Llamaland Tigers from advancing to the next round in the sixth and final group match.

There has been 100 home runs hit in Coughman Stadium, all of which were inside-the-park home runs. During the duration of the tournament, Princess Airways, the airline of Costa Luna, has advertised the following, "The first player, who hits a home run that clears the wall, will receive 10,000 Lunettas and a lucky fan will receive free airplane tickets for life."

An Even Closer Look at Randy Today

Postby Kingdom of Costa Luna » Sat Jul 20, 2013 7:39 pm

Randy Today, the catcher for the Costa Luna Royals, is an all-star catcher having caught two no-hitters already. Today has a great mindset for the game and calls the pitches himself. Today is a left handed catcher, batting left handed and throwing left handed as well. The ability to throw left handed gives Today the edge needed to throw out runners trying to steal second and especially third. Today has allowed only 1% of potential base runners to successfully to advance by stealing a base.

Offensively, Today is a very quick, groundball hitter. Today is the seventh fastest on the team, but in the Costa Regional bowl was 20 for 20 on stolen bases ranking seventh for the tournament in the catagory behind sixth other Royals. Today is the current home run leader for the Royals in Coughman Stadium with 17 all time. Today is 1 ahead of Why, When, and Because in the category.

The State Sports News Media of Gregoryisgodistan wishes to do a feature on Mr. Today for its weekly piece "Sports and Science". Among the topics covered - how does throwing lefty make it easier to throw out runners at third? Does he throw backhand or something? It would make it easier to pick off runners who stray too far off first - Gregoryisgodistan's baserunners must be careful of that to avoid bringing great shame to themselves, their families, and their countries.
