CCAF Cup 1 (everything thread)

Postby Alkoul » Wed Mar 13, 2013 12:56 pm

Welcome to the first ever Commonwealth Confederation of Association Football Cup! From all around the Commonwealth of Crowns 14 teams have gathered in Alkoul to participate in this historical event.

*I did not create this quick guide, Baptism of Fire 48 Introduction guide for new players of NS Sports

"What do I do?"
Well, many things. IC (In Character) information about the host nations and the stadiums you'll be playing in will appear in the thread soon, and will also be linked here. The hosts will generate the scores, and they will also appear here.

And what do you do? Well, first of all you are encouraged to post a roster. This is basically a list of the football players in your team, and can include a variety of different information. Player names are the most important, then there are things like shirt number, age, heigh, weight, gender, style of play, formations, tactics, managers, coaches, kits, home stadiums, and much more. Home stadiums obviously won't come into this tournament as you'll all be playing in Iturributa or Ossidiacqua, but it provides nice background information on your nation. Likewise, style modifiers won't be used in this tournament, but if you want to tell us how attacking/defensive your formation is, feel free. Roster will count towards your RP bonus, and rosters before the group draw will count towards how many other RPers end up in your group.

A vast array of different rosters are permissable. Some examples from my own past - 1 2 3 4

You may also notice the permissions list in those rosters, and what these do is basically give permission for your opponents to make up different facts about your team in their RPs.
Choose my goalscorers? Y/N - Do you give permission for your opponent to determine which of your players scored any goals.
Godmod scoring events? Y/N - Do you give permission for your opponent to come up with rather more unusual ways in which goalscoring happened - i.e. a meteorite crashing down and distracting your keeper resulting in the only goal of the game being a tap in.
RP injuries to my players? Y/N - Do you give permission for your opponent to say one of your players was injured? For how long?
Godmod injuries to my players? Y/N - Do you give permission for your opponent to say your players got injured in a less than normal way? Meteors? Bear attacks? Sudden gastronomic flu attack?
Hand out yellow cards to my players? Y/N - Do you give permission for your opponent to say your players were given yellow cards?
Hand out red cards to my players? Y/N - Do you give permission for your opponent to say your players were given red cards?
Godmod other events? Y/N - Do you give permission for your opponents to RP that any other rather unusual events happened? A flood sweeping half the crowd away at half time? A hawk carrying away the goalposts? The referee becoming a tiger five minutes in?
Remember - If your opponent has said you can't decide his goalscorers, don't decide his goalscorers. Otherwise, this could result in losing RP score. Similarly, contradicting what your opponent may have said in an earlier RP may also do that. Also, remember that these permissions will never change a scoreline, so if you happen to get hammered 5-0, it might actually be a blessing to allow your opponents the chance to say your captain got red carded or similar, might explain a heavy defeat...?

RP
RPing means role play, and in its most basic form is talking about the results that the hosts generate. These could take a huge variety of different forms. From newspaper reports on the team's efforts, to a scathing talk show host slamming your team for a poor performance, to a first hand account of a striker scoring the winning goal, the internal monologues of a coach on the sidelines, the team relaxing in a bar and singing drunken sea-shanties between games... Anything.
For great examples of the type of things that can be RPed, check the Guide to Sports Roleplaying, and the General Sports Roleplaying Questions Thread.

RP injuries to my players Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players Y/N

Style modifier (-5|+5) -5 extremely defensive, + 5 extremely offensive. (you can chose any numbers between -5 and +5.

Format
For the first CCAF you'll be confused at first but after about three days you'll get the hang of it.

14 Teams split into three groups, two groups of four, one group of six. Each group will play single round robin, all groups will have five matchdays, but two will have BYEs on two of them, while one group will have none. The top two of each group plus two wild cards will advance to the quarter-finals, where there after will be single game elimentation.

Games will be scorinated (I know many of you still haven't and idea what that word is) every day. Between each of those times when I post results your can rp about how well or how poorly your team is doing. before I scorinate each matchady i'll give a warning post called a RPing cutoff, then a few minutes latter i'll post that days results.

Like said results will be posted each day around the same time, which will be around 5pm CST(Chicago), so when this starts make sure to get in your rping.

Rps will be graded from 0-3: 0, means you didn't rp; 3 means that I found your rp to be very excellent.

Now I'd like to get this point across, a scorinator is a java program that randomly spits out numbers. Rping will help improve your chances of winning, but it happens some who don't rp once may still beat you. That is why rping very well over the long term can help you in the end.

Matt Rhowne Coach of the Altus City Football Team in the La Libera National League for 4 years straight, leading them to victory in the National Championships every one of those years. Unfortunately, his great career was brought to a halt after an injury during a game against Corvallis. --Before the Game--
When the team entered the stadium with first one Anthro Bear holding a flag of the KOPB, "Ladies and Gentlemen, The KOPB is proud to be participating in this area were the sport of Soccer has been played for who knows how long. May i present to you the team! OF THE KINGDOM, OF THE POLAR BEAAAAAAAARRRRR!" The fallowing song began to play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTHlaokxCaU and the team entered, fast forwarding to the chorus, the coach entered.

--After the Game--
The Coach and team looked kind of sad at there loss, when they first played back at the Pony Lands, they were unstoppable, but now, they were worried they weren't, "Come on everyone, we cant get discouraged so early in the game. And do you know why? Because this is a sport of fun. And remember, were doing this to show those b****es at the CoPS, that WE MEAN BUSINESS!!!" The team cheered, they weren't gonna quit so easily.

Imperial Match Report
Image

By Anton Teisu

When the groups were announced, Remus Balciu openly was said to have given a sigh of relief. The hardened coach later expressed to the press his confidence of group progression, but made it clear the opponent teams were not to be underestimated.
"I believe we can win. With passion and diligence we can overcome anyone, but I respect the group we have drawn enough, to know that should we falter it will inevitably lead to a defeat." The group in question being The Quadruple Alliance, Besate and Hunter. Group two is one of the four nation groups that make up the competition and the Imperials see themselves as slight favorites to progress on top of the group. Goalkeeper Bedu Arteni remarked; "We should be the strongest going in if we play well, if we don't, anything could happen." The quiet confidence was not diminished when they were drawn to play The Quadruple Alliance first. Coach Remus noted that they were an 'unknown factor', but held any other views close to his chest and let his team do the talking.

And thus they did. The kick off came at 8:00pm local time at the architectural wonder that is The Colosseum. Prior the national Anthems were played and the sheer number of cheers and shouts alluded to the strong presence of Imperial fans who had traveled in droves to see their team play. Notably the local population had turned out en masse to see these foreign teams play and seemed to enjoy the clash immensely from their neutral positions. The first five minutes showcased what would be shape of the first half with Romàn and Valois working in tandem to fire two consecutive shots on goal within the first minute. The high-intensity attacking play continued throughout the first half with the Imperials dominating possession with only a few counter-attacking breakthroughs by the Alliance players. The Alliance defense proved to be up to the task however with the goalkeeper being in superb form to save eight shots in the first half of a total of fifteen shots. The half ended without incident or event, but he crowd knew goals would come as play continued and the intensity did not lessen. Remus later admitted he doubted his players could score against the in-form keeper, saying "He wouldn't give an inch in goal."

The second half started with some drama as yet another goal being saved frustrating the Imperial players. Iulian Marcel Balan was yellow carded for a late tackle in the 55th minute, with many crying for a red. The forward was apologetic and the card seemed to settle play for the next twenty minutes, this phase of the game being when The Quadruple Alliance had the best of the chances at goal, though failing to produce anything substantial. The 76th minute brought with it two substitutes and a message from coach Remus. All-out attack. The response was instant with a brilliant lofted through ball by Arcos landing at the feet of Romàn who cannoned the ball into the top left corner on his first touch. The crowd picked up the noise and the game opened up. However a failed counter-attack by the Alliance left a clearing for the lightning quick Valois to pounce on the ball and run nearly unopposed to the opponents goal down the right flank, where he selflessly gave up the ball for two-time Imperial player of the year Constantin Vadalé to steer the ball home with a deft flick of his left boot.

Coach Remus praised the defense of the Alliance and said they were a formidable opponent. He praised his boy's for keeping up the pressure and confirmed his belief in attacking possession as the most exciting and effective form of football around.

Imperial 2-0 The Quadruple Alliance

Lisa Stewen: Hey, everybody! Thank you for watching the RR, I'm Lisa Stewen live from Stricia. Today our guest is the coach of our national football team, Ron Humpries!
Ron Humpries: Hey, Lisa.
LS: Okay, so first of all. What was your team's thoughts on the group assignment? What was the team like?
RH: Well, we were partly feeling unfortunate to get into the largest group, meaning we had to play more matches. On the other hand, the team was feeling newbiely enthusiastic to play.
LS: What were your expectations in regard to the first match?
RH: We definitely expected to have a tough fight with the Noorderkwartier. We predicted a 3:2 score at best.
LS: How did the match go in reality?
RH: During the first half, the opponent focused very much on defense. But Henry Rolando and Robert Borter were simply unstoppable, scoring three consecutive goals. During the second half, the opponent finally decided to play more offensely, managing to score one goal. Before the end of the match, our team scored two more goals.
LS: How did you go about this amazing score?
RH: Well, first of all we were surprised in a good way. Though, I'm afraid that such win so early on will get their hopes up, the first sign of which is the fact that they let the Noorderkwartiers to score a goal.
LS: What do you think about the next match?
RH: I think the Momotsuu team is a formidable enemy. We may not be as lucky as we were the last match...
LS: Thank you, Ron Humpries, for being with us today. This was the RR, we'll see you guys next week! Bye!

"Okay, team, you did very well this game. Henry and Robert were the best of course, but that doesn't necessarily mean that anybody was bad. I would really advise you guys to not get your hopes up and look out for the Momotsuu team. We had a great start, but we still have a long way to go. Good luck!"

"Haaaa, did you hear that? I was the best today," said Henry.
"Oh, shut up, he said I was good too," said Robert angrily.
"No, I was better!" cried Henry.
"Guys, enough with this. We are all good players. We must be a team," said Matthew trying to keep the team from dividing.
"Well, I think I was the best player today," said Artur proudly.
"Ugh, I have a very bad feeling about this," said Matthew sadly.

Kyotoha and La Libera recorded a dull 0-0 draw in Wednesday evening's Group Stage match at the River Front Syadium .

La Libera was the first team to threaten when Joe Lennin escaped the attention of Craig Gillroy after a good pass from Aaron Leek , but Hugo Flores was alert and rushed off his line to collect the ball before the La Libera star could get to it.

The guests continued to be the better side and came close to opening the scoring in the 21st minute. Jimmy Beurn found Jason Shishki with a low cross from the right, but the forward's first attempt was kept out by Flores, while the rebound was blocked by Ryan Doherty .

Beurn then opted to try his luck after Doherty failed to clear a cross from the left, but his powerful shot from a narrow angle only hit the side netting.

Johan Soderburg got the biggest chance of the first half in the closing seconds of the opening 45 minutes and the forward indeed manage to beat Jon Carran. However, Josh Cambell bailed out his goalkeeper and cleared the ball off the line.

The second half continued in very much the same vein as the first half, with the majority of the game taking place in midfield.

Kyotoha was the first to get a shot on target after the interval when Christof Patterson, substituted on tried his luck from long range, but his weak attempt was easy prey for Carran.

The goalkeeper was again called into action in the 76th minute after a good combination between Jonas Abdul and Christof Patterson . The former fired in a well-placed shot at the near post, but Carran pulled off a superb save to tip the ball wide.

Joe Lennin then threatened with a powerful attempt after cutting in from the left, but his right-footed shot went high and wide.

Kyotoha almost netted a winner well into stoppage time after Christof collected the ball on the edge of the area, but he blasted his shot over the bar.

March 15th

Gennomia's first international match ended in a 1-1 draw with Momotsuu. Coach Apellinus said that both sides played exceptionally, and were obviously equally matched. There has been a general buzz in Gennomia about being placed in the same group as Noorderkwartier and Borduriaa, with which the country has been having a bit of a diplomatic spat over the issue of Arcadian prisoners.

Apellinus expressed hope that the team, composed of the best players from across the nation, could achieve more cohesion before their next match. In an interview he said "Most of these guys were rivals before we joined this league. While we haven't done poorly, I believe that as time goes on old rivalries will fade, and our performance will improve."

March 16th

The National Team scored its first CCAF victory today, over Borduriaa. Both teams scored a point in the first half, and Ruricius scoring the winning point half way through the second half. There was a tense atmosphere throughout the stadium, with the Bordurin side hoping to score at least one goal, and the Gennomian side hoping to maintain their lead. With quite a bit of difficulty, the National Team managed to hold of the Bordurins until the match ended.

What were your expectations in regard to the first match?
RH: We predicted them to be at least tougher than the Noorderkwartiers. Maybe a 1:1 score.
LS: How did the match go in reality?
RH: The team decided to play more defensely this time around. Alfred managed to steal the ball numerous times before the opponent could try to score a goal. Though, the opponent's goalkeeper wasn't bad as well. Due to him, we only managed to score 2 goals during the first half. During the second half, it was pretty much just running around in the middle. Nobody managed to score a goal.
LS: How did you go about this score?
RH: Well, it wasn't exactly bad, but we could definitely do better.
LS: What do you think about the next match?
RH: I personally think that we have just been very lucky to, in the first match, play offensely with the opponent having a bad defense and, in the second match, play defensely with the opponent having a bad offense. But our luck has probably ran out, because Gennomia is the third best team in our group. They have both excellent offense and defense. I wouldn't be surprised at a loss, especially with the recent signs of the team dividing and not being able to work together.
LS: Thank you, Ron Humpries, for being with us today. This was the RR, we'll see you guys next week! Bye!

"Okay, team, you did good this game, but you could definitely do better. I would especially like to congratulate Alfred on excellent defense play. And team, whatever happened in the second half? Just running around like that? Have you already started underestimating your opponents? Our next opponent, Gennomia, is definitely not a team to underestimate or expect to win by just running around. This time we will need both excellent offense and defense to win. Good luck!"

"Well, Henry, must be sad to not get the attention you need so much, isn't it?" teased Alfred.
"Ahh shut up, nobody cares about defenders. You don't see defenders scoring goals, now do you? And how are winner teams decided again? Oh right, by the amount of goals scored," said Henry angrily.
"Yes, but if we don't have defense then the opponent will be able to score goals and what happens if the opponent scores more goals than we do? Oh right, we lose, mister nobody cares about defender!" said Alfred.
"Ugh, guys, can we please already stop with this "I'm better and/or more needed than you" hoax? Like I said, everybody's needed and both offense and defense are equally important!" said Matthew trying to keep the team together again. One if these days, he'll probably stop caring. Not today, anyway.

To: Cassius Apellinus (Gennomian coach)
From: Ron Humpries (Roskish coach)

Honourable coach,

Our nations have been generally in good relations. Whatever happens or whatever score we end up with, I hope that our teams will still always be friends. Possibly, we could even hold a few friendly matches.

Ron Humpries

To: Coach of the Noorderkwartier Team
From: Ron Humpries (Roskish coach)

Honourable coach,

We feel bad for your team's recent unfortunate scores. I hope that your team doesn't see our team as rivals because of this. Our teams should still be in friendly relations. Possibly, we could even hold a few friendly matches.

yesterday
The team celebrated there day off by exploring Alkoul and signing autographs to passer's by.

After the Game
Bridget, one of the few female players on the team, was just as excited about winning the game as the rest of the team. She was previously in the KOPB Special Forces, who had served with about 500 KOPB Troops in the Vetagan Civil War. She had recently had won the medal of Honer for her brave commitment to the war. She had the medal hanging in her locker during the game, "Hay Bridget, thank you for your service" John the coach said to her, "Thanks, but it was nothing real special" she replied smiling, "Well, it must have been something amazing to get that" John replied,

"It was, we were on a beach in South Vetega, my troop had just landed and we were already taking Arcadian fire. I wasn't paying much attention and took a bullet to the thigh. I fell down and grabbed my pistol since my rifle was out of reach. I noticed the flag bearer was shot down dead. A Arcadian solider tried to burn it but i shot him before he got to it. In intense pain, i crawled prone to get to the flag, grabbed it, and climbed up the hill taking more rounds in my side, foot, and ankle. I got to the top and shouted, "BY GRACE OF GOD, THIS LAND BELONGS TO HIS MAJESTY KING AMBRIN NIGHTSHADE!" and i planted it in the ground with whatever strength i had left. Shortly after i did that, i passed out. I then woke up in a hospital back in Bearhamton. So yeah, i guess you tend to get medals for that sort of thing," She said.

Everyone in the room was stunned, never before had they herd such a war story like that one, "What are you doing here playing Soccer?" someone asked, "Well, after i recovered i asked to go back and fight, and they let me. When the war ended, i figured to take a break from Military life, and go for one in sports. I admit i'm still a little sore, but i can manage," She said with a smile. Everyone laughed a little bit, and the victory celebration went on.

After the game:

Coach Rhowne to team: I know we could've done better there. 0-4 against KOPB? We came into this tournament not going to win, but just to have fun, and show the spirit of La Libera. This is a bad loss, we may recover, we may not. However this turns out I want you all to enjoy your time here, and have fun. Remember, winning isn't everything.

The team looked in a considerably good mood after the huge loss, and are planning to enjoy their relaxing day off tomorrow, and go into Tuesday's game determined to enjoy themselves.
Wouldn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected expected? :)

Just like the coach thought: the team was disfocused and lacked teamwork. The Gennomians managed to score two goals during the first half. During the second half, the team managed to get it together somehow, but no more goals were scored. The score stayed Gennomia 2:0 Rosko.

The team was very depressed, but the team captain Matthew Mastor promised to do better next time.

March 18th

The National Team has won its third game, against Rosko. The team managed to take advantage of the Rosko team's lack of focus during the first half, and managed to hold them off in the second half after they had regained their focus. It was an exciting match, and the Gennomian team shone in the first half, which appears to be something of a pattern. Coach Apellinus had this to say after the match,

"Our team performed excellently today, as did the Roskoans. I'd like to take this time to respond to the open letter from Coach Humphries, of course we can always be friends. We'd love to have you at the National Stadium in Gennom City some time."

The team will next be facing Alkoul, who have won all three of their matches handily. Coach Apellinus was reported as saying this may be their toughest match yet, but he's optimistic about their chances.

March 18th

The National Team continues to advance in the CCAF Cup, ending its match with Alkoul in a 1-1 draw. Tiberius Glycia, one of the team's forwards, commented on the match.

"It was really quite a relentless match. Both teams played their hearts out, it was probably one of the hardest matches I've played. It's easy to see why Alkoul has done so well."

The next match will be against Noorderkwartier, popular opinion has it that it will be a bloodbath. Noorderkwartier has already been eliminated, and has only won one match. Additionally their massive losses against Alkoul and Rosko have inspired confidence in the National Team's fans. Coach Apellinus was more conservative in his opinion.

"While the Noorderkwartier team hasn't done very well so far, we won't get overconfident. They may yet surprise us."
